- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am

- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a.
- 0:14Podcast to. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some
- 0:20joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Early morning, I'm tucked
- 0:30inside. It's way too cold to be outside
- 0:32yet and pitch dark so we are shooting from the garage.
- 0:36We are talking today about being behind before you even started,
- 0:40and this came up yesterday repeatedly in coaching sessions
- 0:45with my one-on-one clients and people saying, Oh my gosh, I
- 0:49haven't made my possibilities list.
- 0:52Remember we talked about that last week.
- 0:53My clients are all working on that.
- 0:55I think it was last week or the week before we did it.
- 0:58But the possibilities list for any of you who have missed it,
- 1:00is basically where you're sitting down and you're not
- 1:02setting goals, you're just allowing your imagination to
- 1:05take over and give you a very abundant list of things you
- 1:09possibly would want to do, not that you're committing to do.
- 1:12I'm just possibly thinking like, wow, I'd love to do that.
- 1:15Like for instance, on my possibility list, it's going and
- 1:18taking drawing classes. Like literally sitting down and
- 1:21taking drawing classes, which I always resisted doing as a child
- 1:25because I didn't want to be told when I should draw.
- 1:27And no one reframed it for me. So I stuck with that theory,
- 1:31which was not necessarily the best theory in the world, but
- 1:35neither here nor there. They weren't struggling because
- 1:38they felt like they were already behind because here we are the
- 1:4115th, and they don't have anything done.
- 1:46They're like, oh, I don't have my possibilities list done.
- 1:48I haven't even thought about my other stuff yet.
- 1:51And they're just going on and on and on.
- 1:53And the stress is building and building and building.
- 1:56And I immediately have to remind them when they're like this, no
- 2:01one is coming to arrest you for not having your possibility list
- 2:05done. No one is coming and saying, did
- 2:07you debrief 2025 yet? Well, first of all, it's not
- 2:10finished. So you don't have to have your
- 2:12debrief for 2025 done. And if you don't want to debrief
- 2:16it, don't. It, it it's that simple.
- 2:19If you don't want to do the debrief, don't do it.
- 2:21I have a handful of clients out of all the ones that I coach
- 2:24that say I just want to let this year go.
- 2:26I don't want to think about it. And I'm like, that is completely
- 2:29OK, just let it go. Just move forward.
- 2:33If that's what's in your heart and that's what you need to do
- 2:36to feel better, then that's what you do in that moment.
- 2:39You don't take the stress of putting more on your plate
- 2:42because the world is willing to give you as much on your plate
- 2:48as you can. As as I like to think of it, you
- 2:50know, you think of a shore bird and like a Pelican and they have
- 2:56a gullet. And that gullet gets filled with
- 2:57fish. And you watch them swallow fish
- 2:59whole. What they're doing is they're
- 3:01filling their garlic. They will eat as much as they
- 3:04can to stuff that gullet, even though it is probably stuffed
- 3:09right up to the top, They'll they'll still keep going.
- 3:11Well, guess what? The world will give us as much
- 3:14to do as we are willing to allow into that gullet that we have.
- 3:18So unless you decide to say, hey, I need to put some
- 3:24boundaries around this. I need to push back on some of
- 3:27this. It'll keep giving you stuff and
- 3:30you'll keep feeling behind and it will it'll keep stacking and
- 3:33causing problems. So the first thing that you must
- 3:36remember in especially at this time of the year, no one is
- 3:39coming to arrest you for not having your goals done yet, not
- 3:43having intentions set, not doing a debrief, not having
- 3:46possibilities. Whatever you're doing, whatever
- 3:48you're working on, no one's coming to hit you on the hands
- 3:53and say, hey, hey, causing that anxiety to come up.
- 3:56And believe me, I know I used to do this to myself all the time.
- 4:00And I have to remind myself especially like around my space,
- 4:04I have to always say, listen, Martha Stewart is not showing up
- 4:07here to arrest me for not having something set out perfectly
- 4:11because my space is so important.
- 4:14My external space is so important to my internal
- 4:16well-being. I, I can't explain it, but it
- 4:20is. And I as much as over the years,
- 4:23I, I've let things go, I have also incorporated ways that I
- 4:27can work with that. Meaning if, if I'm, if I'm going
- 4:30to be as uptight as I am about having the bed made just the
- 4:33right way, then I have to be the one that makes the bed.
- 4:36I can't expect somebody else to do it.
- 4:38So one, do not, do not allow yourself to beat yourself up.
- 4:43Do not allow yourself to torture yourself because that's useless.
- 4:472 Take a deep breath and sit down and really decide what are
- 4:52those hierarchies of things that need to be done?
- 4:55Where, what does that hierarchy look like right now?
- 4:58So if you know you've got something really urgent that has
- 5:01to be done, you put it at the top and you eat the broccoli
- 5:04first, my friends, you just do it.
- 5:07And three, it's really, really important, I mean excruciatingly
- 5:11important to recognize that you have the official last word of
- 5:17what gets done in the order it gets done.
- 5:19So you can say to somebody, especially like in corporate
- 5:22world, you can say, OK, these are the five things that you've
- 5:25put on my plate, which means they stuff them in your gullet.
- 5:28And I have a curiosity about what order you want them done in
- 5:33because I would like to do them thoroughly and well.
- 5:36So what order would you like them done in thoroughly?
- 5:39And well, if you want me to rush and get them all done, I can do
- 5:43that, but they are not going to be thoroughly done well.
- 5:46And sometimes it takes reminding somebody, a boss, a supervisor,
- 5:51that that's the that's the case. I can do them all, but I'll do
- 5:54them half ass and they'll be done.
- 5:56But they won't be done. Well, do you want them done?
- 5:58Well, then tell me the order you want them done in.
- 6:01And then you give them a projection.
- 6:03And honestly, that really changes things because it makes
- 6:06the other person think, ah, OK. And sometimes they go, great,
- 6:11let's pick the order. And sometimes they go, no, just
- 6:13do them. And you go, OK, and you go off
- 6:16and you do it. And I've been in both
- 6:18situations, but at least it gives them awareness of it.
- 6:22So stop panicking. Stop forcing yourself to go into
- 6:26that headspace, take a deep breath and recognize deeply you
- 6:30have control over this and no one is coming to arrest you for
- 6:33this. There have been years.
- 6:35I think two years ago I didn't get my goals done until the end
- 6:37of February, so there's nothing to worry about.
- 6:41And guess what? My world didn't blow up.
- 6:43OK my friends, take a deep breath and try to enjoy
- 6:47yourselves and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 6:49Bye.
