- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and as always, I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! I'm Luna, and I'm ready to hit the gym again. But wait — last time we ended with cool-down phrases. What's today? Lucas: Today we're tackling something every gym-goer needs: how to ask for a towel. It's one of those small but essential phrases. Luna: Oh, I've been there. Nothing worse than finishing a workout and realizing you forgot yours. So, what's the first phrase? Lucas: Let's start with: 'Ich brauche ein Handtuch.' That means 'I need a towel.' Let me say it slowly: Ich brau-che ein Hand-tuch. Luna: Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Hmm, 'Handtuch' is like 'hand' and 'cloth' put together. Lucas: Exactly! German loves compound words. So you can say that at the front desk: 'Ich brauche ein Handtuch.' Luna: And what if I don't know where they are? I need to ask where the towels are. Lucas: Great question. The phrase is: 'Wo sind die Handtücher?' — 'Where are the towels?' Let's break it: Wo sind die Hand-tü-cher. Luna: Wo sind die Handtücher? Wo sind die Handtücher? The plural is 'Handtücher' with an umlaut. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to be more polite, you can say: 'Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich?' — 'Do you have a towel for me?' Luna: Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich? That sounds very formal and polite. I like it. Lucas: And if someone points you in the right direction, they might say: 'Die Handtücher sind dort.' — 'The towels are over there.' Try that one. Luna: Die Handtücher sind dort. Die Handtücher sind dort. So 'dort' means 'over there'. Lucas: Exactly. And one more casual phrase: 'Kann ich ein Handtuch haben?' — 'Can I have a towel?' This is very common. Luna: Kann ich ein Handtuch haben? That's simple. I can imagine saying that to the staff. Lucas: Let's put them together in a quick scene. Imagine you're at the gym desk. You say: 'Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich?' The person says: 'Die Handtücher sind dort.' Then you say: 'Danke!' Luna: Okay, let me try: 'Haben Sie ein Handtuch für mich?'... 'Die Handtücher sind dort.'... 'Danke!' Feels good. Lucas: You got it. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with German, we'd love your support. Anyway, back to towels. Let's practice one more time. Repeat after me: 'Ich brauche ein Handtuch.' Luna: Ich brauche ein Handtuch. Lucas: 'Wo sind die Handtücher?' Luna: Wo sind die Handtücher? Lucas: Great. Now you're ready for the gym. Next time, maybe we'll learn how to ask for a locker key. But for now, keep practicing these towel phrases.
