- 0:00Let me hear you.
- 0:29Me hear you. I'm Six Mill, keeping it true. It's your boy, KG.
- 0:33Welcome to episode 27 of For The Fam Podcast.
- 0:38Carlton Fisk episode.
- 0:40I thought he was 72.
- 0:42For the White Sox, he wore 27 at one point. Unless I'm high and I don't smoke. Okay, well, whatever.
- 0:53Man, so what's good, bro? What's been on your mind? Oh, nothing much, man.
- 0:57Just as we were talking about before we came on, I'm just getting over this
- 1:00little bug I had, but everything's good. Cool, cool, cool.
- 1:05All right, man. So what are we going to get into today? So today we want to
- 1:09talk about betting. Mm-hmm.
- 1:11Specifically, you know, FanDuel, DraftKings, the ability to have the gambling
- 1:16right in the palm of your hands. Mm-hmm.
- 1:19And in a sense, how it's detrimental or how it's beneficial or we're going to
- 1:25get into all of that? I think everything. Everything?
- 1:28Unfortunately, and in my opinion, personally, not many pros to it.
- 1:33Just in my opinion. Have I done it? Absolutely. Do I have a DraftKings account? Absolutely.
- 1:39But if you really step back, like if you're not addicted to gambling and you
- 1:43really step back and look at it, there's not many pros to having all of this
- 1:48stuff in the palm of your hands, unless you're a politician and you want the money.
- 1:53All right. Well, I'm not going to be hypocritical either.
- 1:56I do not have the online baiting accounts, but I have participated in office
- 2:02polls or pools, I guess I should say, when it comes to March Madness.
- 2:07I've filled out brackets and, you know, I've done fantasy football leagues.
- 2:11I've done pick them leagues. So I'm not going to lie and say that I'm immune
- 2:16to gambling, but you're right.
- 2:20With it being so accessible now, I think it is a huge issue.
- 2:26And I think the fact that it's targeting young men is one of the things that
- 2:35I'm sure we'll cover as we get into this conversation.
- 2:40All right. Well, go ahead, bro. So I'll just piggyback right off of what you just said.
- 2:46So one of the stats that I recently that I saw and they just updated recently
- 2:50among younger men age 18 to 34 from the polls.
- 2:56Basically, you know, and I'm laughing because you just did. I did,
- 3:00which is why it was fresh on my mind also about polls.
- 3:02So 90% that they polled, and I don't have a number, I don't have the exact number,
- 3:09but 90% of them believe they can actually make a living,
- 3:14reliable money, make a living gambling on DraftKings and FanDuel.
- 3:1990 percent while it's
- 3:23not impossible no but you gotta you gotta
- 3:26spend yeah not not only do you
- 3:28have to spend but you have to to to
- 3:32take the term spin and utilize it in a different way you
- 3:35have to spend an enormous amount of time doing
- 3:38research oh which is one of
- 3:41the reasons why no exactly which is one of the reasons why i
- 3:44stopped doing fantasy football because i find myself
- 3:47spending so much time doing research on
- 3:50player x and player y and monitoring injury
- 3:54reports and all that i'm just like i am spending way too
- 3:57much time doing this and i
- 4:00still may not win correct so so
- 4:03so yeah it it's not
- 4:06impossible to make a living but it's
- 4:10like winning the lottery as they say well how
- 4:14many times have we seen you know they talk about how big
- 4:17Floyd Mayweather laid down or Drake laid
- 4:20down they don't tell you that Drake laid
- 4:23down a one million dollar bet to win two and a half you you putting down twenty
- 4:29dollars you gonna win fifty and if you win you know what that does that dopamine
- 4:34kicks in shoot I won that maybe I can win two hundred next time alright so.
- 4:42Well, we'll probably end up reading a lot of stats during this conversation.
- 4:51Of course, we'll have our own opinions, but we actually try and be factual.
- 4:57So we're going to rely on stats for a lot of this conversation, or at least I am.
- 5:02So don't be annoyed by the fact that there's going to be some reading done during
- 5:08this episode. You should be happy the fact that there are stats because stats
- 5:13show you that there have been studies done. Correct.
- 5:16Because we're just sitting up here jaw jacking and it's just an opinion based. Correct. Correct.
- 5:21Correct. Correct. And no one likes to listen to anyone speak from the book of opinions.
- 5:29All right. So anyway, let me get into some of this financial data.
- 5:33Studies have found a direct correlation between the legalization of online sports
- 5:39betting and a decline in household financial health.
- 5:44Basically meaning some of these fools are gambling away their rent money,
- 5:51light, gas, grocery, putting themselves in a financial bind,
- 5:56like you said, thinking that they're going to win big.
- 6:00And really, all you're doing is putting your family or your living situation in peril.
- 6:07So I'm going to let you I'm going to let you continue. But I want to add something
- 6:10to that. There has been a bankruptcy spike.
- 6:13It shows 25 to 25 to 30 percent increase in bankruptcy filings within the first
- 6:19three to four years of the apps going live. That's where I was going next.
- 6:24So, yeah, that's cool. That's exactly where I was going next.
- 6:29Let's see here. What about some of the psychological and health risks?
- 6:34So let me, I just had that. So unlike a casino, you got chips in front of you. Mm-hmm.
- 6:42That's visual. Mm-hmm. You got one damn chip left to play. Let me go ahead and
- 6:45play this chip and get the hell up out of it. Yep.
- 6:48When you're dealing with these apps, it's not visual.
- 6:53You wake up in the middle of the night and place a bet. Your card is attached
- 6:56to it. Your credit card is attached to it.
- 6:59So there's no chips in front of you telling you, hey, you can't afford this. Right. Leave it alone.
- 7:04Right. Something else I saw this morning, a lot of these apps,
- 7:08they don't look like financial transactions because that's what they are,
- 7:13financial transactions. They look like a game.
- 7:16They look flashy and fancy because it's the dopamine.
- 7:22It's kind of like, and I hate to compare it to like Candy Crush.
- 7:25Remember when Candy Crush came out, like you had people, you had news stories
- 7:30of people playing Candy Crush for two and three days straight.
- 7:32Well, yeah, it is designed to be a dick.
- 7:35Yeah, it's designed to be appealing.
- 7:39So, yeah, there is that aesthetic that makes you always want to be involved.
- 7:44And what we were saying about the accessibility.
- 7:47It's at your fingertips at all times. So you could be having a conversation
- 7:51with someone in the office. Hey, you know, such and such got hurt last night.
- 7:56They out for the season. Then you pick up your phone and now you placing bets
- 8:00on, you know, tonight's game based on that information may not even be real.
- 8:04And you can hide your addiction to gambling when it's on your phone.
- 8:08Yeah, for sure. Especially if you're a single person. For sure.
- 8:11Now, your spouse will real quick.
- 8:13Hey, yo, what happened to the money? If you're a single person,
- 8:17it's so fast, so easy to go into debt, especially if you're not doing your research.
- 8:23Correctamundo. Let's talk about some of these mental health disorders.
- 8:27Problem gambling is linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.
- 8:34In a 2025 survey, 76% of student gamblers reported experiencing stress and anxiety
- 8:44related to their betting.
- 8:47Research indicates that the brain's reward system, which is that dopamine that
- 8:52you were just speaking of,
- 8:54can be altered by frequent betting features like losses disguised as wins and
- 9:02all of that kind of stuff to ease you.
- 9:07Ease you into thinking, yeah, you just lost, but it's not that bad.
- 9:12Well, another thing that's buried in the fine print to a lot of these things.
- 9:17Bet here, get up to $250 back if you lose.
- 9:22Well, that $250 goes as a credit. Yep.
- 9:26I've been there. So it goes as a credit. And if you win.
- 9:29They taking that $250 back before you get your payout? Yeah, you get to keep it.
- 9:33But you have to bet a certain amount of times before you're even eligible to pull that $250 out.
- 9:39Oh, so they getting it back either way. Correct.
- 9:42So even if you're winning, you have to keep betting. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:46Yeah. Just to get any of that money back. Interesting.
- 9:51But it's buried in the fine print. Sure, sure, sure. The devil's always in the details, as they say.
- 9:58Let's talk about suicide risk. The World Health Organization,
- 10:04who, for lack of a better terms, that always made me laugh.
- 10:09And other public health entities have noted that individuals with gambling disorders
- 10:14are significantly more likely to experience suicidal ideas.
- 10:21One study found that they are 15 more times likely to die from suicide than
- 10:30the rest of the population.
- 10:33There's also the one in five rule.
- 10:36The National Council on Problem Gambling reports that one out of every five
- 10:41people with a severe gambling addiction will attempt suicide.
- 10:45Not actually, not that it's successful, but will attempt it.
- 10:51One out of five. One out of five people with gambling addictions.
- 10:54Yeah, that's crazy, bro. Let's talk about some of this prop betting stuff.
- 11:02He got me so and we spoke about this in our conversation earlier this week is
- 11:10it ruining the integrity of sports it can it can,
- 11:16because you could easily where when you and I were growing up there's a couple
- 11:20stories from the 90s of I think it was in Arizona State where they threw a game
- 11:24and it was huge there's a 30 for 30 on it now as you and I were talking about Terry Rozier.
- 11:31Over and under 13 points i got 12 twist
- 11:35my ankle right i can miss a free throw right and
- 11:38nobody would ever be the wiser right as long as there's
- 11:41not a huge abundance of money on that
- 11:44that prop and and the the
- 11:48the what makes it easier to
- 11:51hide quote unquote is the
- 11:54fact that 13 points may or
- 11:57may not even determine the outcome of the game right
- 12:00be a 20 25 point blowout no exactly right
- 12:04so so so at that point you can disguise that
- 12:08you're actually in cahoots with the betting system by like you said missing
- 12:13a free throw faking an injury just passing up open shots all of these things
- 12:19just so you don't exceed that 13 points you know commit fouls so you get taken out,
- 12:26There's there are so many ways that one can affect just their personal statistics
- 12:33without affecting the outcome of the game, which is.
- 12:38In my opinion, definitely has an effect on the integrity of sports.
- 12:44You and I have seen many a stupid foul in the game. Mm-hmm. Like,
- 12:48why did they commit that foul? Mm-hmm.
- 12:50Correct. Now it doesn't just go by the wayside like it used to.
- 12:53It makes one question everything, right?
- 12:58When we were young or coming up.
- 13:02Not to say it did or didn't happen, but most of the time you just went out there
- 13:07and played hard you played to win.
- 13:10But now if i know me and
- 13:13my boys gonna come up if if i
- 13:16only make five shots tonight i only scored 10
- 13:19points me and my boys about to come up because i told them all bet on me to
- 13:25not score over 10 points which is why i think that the the focus shifted to
- 13:31terry rosier that time for sure it It was like $280,000 total was bet around the country.
- 13:38And people were like, so we got a $280,000 bet on Terry Rose here to be under whatever the overrun.
- 13:44That doesn't make any... When the previous was like $3,000, $5,000.
- 13:50And now we got almost... Well, we got over a quarter of a million. Right. Right.
- 13:56It is. Yeah. And I mean, we're focusing on basketball, but this applies to all sports.
- 14:04It's easy to do in all sports, for lack of a better term.
- 14:09I mean, I think baseball, as far as someone they're batting,
- 14:14how easy it would be if the over is for you to go two for four.
- 14:19How easy it would be to go one for four or O for four.
- 14:24And we've seen some of the greatest players in the history of baseball have an 0-4-4 day.
- 14:29I mean, we see it all the time. Guys just look at a pitch right down the plate
- 14:33and you go, why didn't you swing at that? Yeah.
- 14:36But you can't question it because it happens so often that you're just like,
- 14:41well, he's just having an off day. He's having a bad day.
- 14:43And then you get in the batter's box and see a 100-mile-an-hour fastball and
- 14:46you go, oh, that's why there's so many foul balls.
- 14:50That's why there's so many strikeouts. well that's a
- 14:53whole different podcast yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah without a doubt
- 14:56so so yeah in my opinion it is definitely ruining
- 15:00or i should say could be ruining the
- 15:03integrity of sports but let's let's let's
- 15:06let's move and talk about calcium okay go ahead real quick
- 15:09i want to double back to the did you know that 80 of
- 15:12all people that call the gambling helpline are
- 15:17calling with suicidal thoughts 80% wow 80% yeah it's legal bro yeah it's it's
- 15:28it's legal which leads us right into the next entity we're going to talk about
- 15:33which is calcium now if I'm not.
- 15:36Mistaken, isn't Don Jr. associated with Kalshi?
- 15:40Isn't he on their board of directors or something to that effect?
- 15:43One of them is on there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:47So if you're not familiar with Kalshi and they try and distinguish themselves
- 15:53from DraftKings, FanDuel,
- 15:56and the others, they try and distinguish themselves by marketing their organization
- 16:03as predictive marketing.
- 16:06Not sports betting, even though they also participate in sports betting.
- 16:12And I think the majority of their bets are related to sports,
- 16:17but you can also bet on anything on Calci. Here's what's crazy.
- 16:23It's listed as a financial market, not a sports book, which is why it's legal
- 16:28to vote on it in Texas and California.
- 16:30It wouldn't be legal, but they introduced it as a financial market.
- 16:35So now it's legal in certain states that don't allow sports back.
- 16:39So it's the intricacies of it behind the scenes.
- 16:44And I know this is people have been manipulating words to get ahead forever, but it just seems so.
- 16:53Like I saw a YouTube video of a streamer watching a speech and it was over under
- 16:58how many times Donald Trump will say a certain word. That part.
- 17:01Dude lost his mind because he won like three thousand dollars.
- 17:04That part right there. That's exactly what I was about to get into is the fact
- 17:09that on Calci, you can vote on things such as how many times Donald Trump will
- 17:15say a word during the speech or how long a state of a union address will be.
- 17:20So on and so forth. With him, you can always bet the over.
- 17:24How easy would it be for Don Jr., though, or whichever one of them that's on
- 17:29the board? To say to his father, hey.
- 17:31Exactly. And now you sort of have an insider trading type atmosphere, right?
- 17:37So now the books are cooked, as they say in betting terms. I mean,
- 17:44nowadays, though, I mean, he'll probably forget what kind of speech he's got.
- 17:47That's also a factor. You can't you can't depend on them.
- 17:51But again, I believe someone placed a bet on like Caroline Levitt's address
- 17:59one day, like how long her address was going to be, her press briefing.
- 18:05So how how how easy is it to go? Hey, Caroline.
- 18:10Keep this under five minutes. Who the hell wants to bet on this shit?
- 18:13I don't even want to watch it. Why the hell would I bet on it?
- 18:16But if you know you're about to come up, though.
- 18:18Yeah. No, I feel you. You're right. It's not worth watching because,
- 18:22you know, however long it is, it's just full of lies and idiocacies.
- 18:26But, yeah, if you know that you're about to come up, I mean,
- 18:30unscrupulous people do unscrupulous things.
- 18:34So, yeah, that's the problem with Kalshi. And if I'm not mistaken,
- 18:39they they are being sued or they have like some type of a case coming up with the Supreme Court.
- 18:46Betting on betting on man, I'm trying to think and I know I read this. I'm sorry, y'all.
- 18:52I'm getting it right now. I think it's something related to basically the insider
- 18:58trading part of it and what you were saying about California and Texas and whatnot. So, sorry, y'all.
- 19:07Oh, yeah, there's a... Yeah, they're in trouble. They're in legal...
- 19:13Oh, my God. They're in legal trouble. Yeah, there's actually quite a few.
- 19:18A lawsuit from this month says a unique lawsuit was filed in California,
- 19:23alleging Koushi was ghoulish for allowing people to trade on the death or survival
- 19:28of world leaders, specifically regarding the supreme leader of Iran.
- 19:33The lawsuit claims this crosses the line from market research and the disturbing public interest.
- 19:38And also is the fact that they were marketing towards college students.
- 19:47Right right is it is it something and i think that that may be
- 19:50the case that i'm thinking of is they're in trouble for
- 19:53marketing their their site towards college students
- 19:56who are already in debt and whatever
- 20:00whatever so they're they're preying on the young men i had something about that
- 20:03for draft kings and fanduel okay and maybe maybe i'm maybe i'm mixing them up
- 20:08but there was there's countless stories of college students betting just so
- 20:14they can have food eat They got $5.
- 20:17Well, I'm going to put it on this parlay and this game in a couple hours because
- 20:21that $5 can turn into $100. That $5 can turn into $200.
- 20:25So now they have food to eat. Yeah.
- 20:31Another thing, too, going back to the FanDuel and DraftKings,
- 20:34you now have betting where you can just use your face.
- 20:38So your face ID, like you unlock your phone and the one-touch betting,
- 20:42It eliminates the steps that people usually have before reality kicks in and
- 20:49they go, wait a minute, I probably shouldn't be doing this.
- 20:53But if I got face ID, use your face to bet and it's done.
- 20:59Well, that's also one of the things that I think they're in trouble for is the
- 21:03lack of consumer protection, so to speak.
- 21:06Right. Because it's unregulated.
- 21:10You can just bet and bet and bet and bet, and no one's going to tell you, cool out. Yeah.
- 21:17You're doing too much right now. Take a step back. So I think that's one of
- 21:21the other things that's being regulated at this point, or they're at least trying
- 21:25to introduce legislation to regulate it.
- 21:28Arizona specifically, they filed that Couchy is basically running an illegal
- 21:32betting ring. Because since it's listed as a financial market instead of sports
- 21:38betting, that it's illegal in the state of Arizona.
- 21:41So the attorney general actually brought that as a criminal case against Koushi. Good.
- 21:48Good. Get them. Get them all. Get them all.
- 21:53And I've always thought that it was a bad idea to do the online betting thing.
- 21:59And again, to each his own. I'm not here to ridicule anyone,
- 22:04but just proceed with caution. So I'll use an example.
- 22:08You remember that? I think it was the bubble when Bam Adebayo blocked Jason
- 22:12Tatum's shot at the rim to win the series or win the game.
- 22:15Bro, I won $190 on that block. Oh, wow. On that block.
- 22:21Like, I lost my mind. $190. On one play. I lost all of it within 24 hours. Mm-hmm.
- 22:28Now, I only bet, I think it was like $20, $30. I had some boost,
- 22:33which is what got me, was the boost. Yeah.
- 22:36And I won on that, lost all of it.
- 22:39Interesting. I was like, oh, yeah, I know basketball. I could do this,
- 22:43dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah. None of that stuff. Yeah. Lost it all. Yeah.
- 22:47I was mad as hell. That was my life. I could have paid my life big.
- 22:50Right, right, right. Right. And that and that part right there is the fact that
- 22:54people are taking money that is allocated for bills, groceries,
- 23:00et cetera, and betting it.
- 23:02And it's funny to bring up the movie Focus when he was talking about the Asian
- 23:09guy, when he when he wins, but he bets low.
- 23:15He's not happy that he won he's looking
- 23:19at it like if i had better extra my winnings
- 23:23would have doubled and i think that's what
- 23:25the uh gambling addiction becomes is you're
- 23:29not happy that you won 500 you're looking
- 23:32at it like man had i bet that extra 50
- 23:35maybe i could have won a thousand these high rollers man
- 23:38they'll win 600 grand and mad at themselves because they couldn't
- 23:41want when i could have won 900 000 no yeah yeah
- 23:44yeah no but i'm just i'm just saying in general oh yeah you
- 23:47know you know when when one starts to develop that mindset of not not accepting
- 23:53the win as a win but looking at the win as a loss because they didn't bet enough
- 23:59yeah you know that i think that's where it becomes dangerous and once you develop that mindset.
- 24:07Then it might be time to get some help. Well, next time I'm going to bet 200
- 24:12grand. That part. Instead of 100 grand.
- 24:14That part. Or I'm going to bet this whole thousand.
- 24:18Knowing you got rent to pay, but I'm going to bet this thousand.
- 24:22Because last time I only won 500. If I bet this thousand, then I can win 3,000.
- 24:28Yeah. You know. So that's our discussion, our main topic discussion, y'all.
- 24:34Betting, FanDuel, DraftKings, Couchy, et cetera. Proceed with caution.
- 24:38We're not telling anyone not to.
- 24:41We're just saying be cautious, be careful, you know, consider everything that
- 24:49could go wrong instead of focusing on everything that could go right.
- 24:53I think that's a healthy way of looking at it. You have to put the risk before the rewards.
- 25:02You may think that that's a loser's way of looking at it, but it'll keep you
- 25:07out of trouble. I'm just saying.
- 25:09But that's the point. It's like with the lottery.
- 25:11I drive by that sign on 465 East 20 times a week.
- 25:16And every time I look up at it, I say, man, wouldn't that be nice? Wouldn't it be nice?
- 25:21When's the last time you bought a lottery ticket? 10 years?
- 25:27Probably the same. I'm going to tell you what stopped me. quick quick quick
- 25:32story y'all and then we're going to move on to our current events,
- 25:37so it was one of those one billion jackpot joints me and like maybe five or
- 25:45six other guys from the office all put in like five dollars this was before
- 25:50they raised the ticket price to two dollars So it was a dollar, no, a dollar a ticket.
- 25:55We all put in like $5 and we had 30, 40 tickets, something like that.
- 26:04You know how much money we won, bro? Probably about $80. One dollar.
- 26:12One dollar out of like 40 tickets. We won one dollar, bro.
- 26:19After that, I was like, yeah, I'm done. This is rigged.
- 26:22I'm like, I'm good. That was the last time I played the lottery, bro.
- 26:26So, yeah, you're right. I ride past those signs. You know, you see the news headlines.
- 26:32Powerball is up to this amount. Don't you know, what's the other one?
- 26:35Mega millions. Mega millions, yeah. And you're just like, man, it'd be great.
- 26:40To even hit half would be great. But you know what's funny is then you walk
- 26:44into a gas station and you see the layout at the front counter.
- 26:47I often forget that they have a pick five or a daily three or something.
- 26:52And I look at that number like it's nothing. And it'll be like 90 grand. Right.
- 26:57And I'm acting like 90 grand won't change my life. No, facts.
- 27:00Facts. Like if you're going to play it like I'm trying to win $800 million when
- 27:05all I need is that $90,000. Facts. I ain't great.
- 27:09Facts. I mean, yeah, you can't quit your job, but it'll definitely change your life.
- 27:13You're definitely going to your job with a new attitude. Man.
- 27:17What up? I've been with Chappelle. I thought he got Oprah pregnant. Yeah. I quit.
- 27:24Yeah. Facts. All right, y'all. We're going to leave that conversation there
- 27:28for now. we're going to move right into our current events.
- 27:32You got a current event you want to discuss, brother? I do.
- 27:34So I want to go away from politics.
- 27:37I want to go back. I'm going to go home. Okay.
- 27:41Not Hammond, but Lake Station. So I'm not sure if you saw the story.
- 27:45So on March 22nd, a kid named Rodrigo Montez, 18 years old.
- 27:52He was a senior at River Forest in Lake Station.
- 27:55So he and one of his buddies Using their quotes Because I don't know the full
- 27:59story They left the party,
- 28:03Somebody found his buddy's truck upside down in Deep River.
- 28:09He survived and went home, bro. Went home. Didn't call it in? Went home.
- 28:18Somebody stumbled across the truck, found it. He claims he has no idea where Rico is. No clue.
- 28:27He's at Rico's parents' house 4 o'clock that morning, because I think this happened
- 28:31at like 12, 1 o'clock or maybe the night before or something like that.
- 28:36He don't know what happened to him. He don't know where he is.
- 28:40Just not saying anything. Well, they found his body yesterday in the river,
- 28:44not far from where the truck was.
- 28:46But the reason I bring this up, because I saw it a lot in my kids,
- 28:51and I know you and I have briefly talked about this over the years.
- 28:55Find you friends that are reliable and are
- 28:59your friends don't just
- 29:02jump in the truck the car or run
- 29:05into any and everybody's house thinking that they have your best interests at
- 29:09heart now the man who's sitting to my left i know that if at any given moment
- 29:16well one i know he's not gonna drive like a fool if i'm in the in the car with
- 29:20him but if any given moment i know that I need him,
- 29:24I know I can call on him and it's guaranteed.
- 29:27I'm going to be there. He's going to be there. It ain't no question.
- 29:30Where you at? I'm on my way.
- 29:31But this breaks my heart because this kid was 18 by all accounts was headed to greatness in life.
- 29:38And I guess they said, like, some of the people, when they mentioned who the
- 29:42kid was, like, nobody, well, they knew who he was, but he wasn't,
- 29:46like, as close as friends as it was being made out to be in the press.
- 29:52So there was no foul play or anything? It was just an accident?
- 29:56My guess is speeding, lost control, flipped the truck.
- 30:01Scared, panicked. Survived. Took off. Wow.
- 30:05Yeah, that's crazy. So people you and I grew up with. You know what I mean?
- 30:09Some of those folks live in Lake Station, Gary. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:12They have been posting articles and posting about it and whatnot.
- 30:15I didn't say nothing because I don't comment on stuff like that publicly.
- 30:18But in my mind, I immediately said when I saw the article, that kid's in that water somewhere.
- 30:24But they were looking for him. They were all over Lake Station searching for
- 30:28him. And in my mind, to myself, I'm thinking, he in that water.
- 30:3318. He in that water. Still a baby. And then, like I said, you see all the things
- 30:38he was involved in, grades, sports, good kid, level head on his shoulders,
- 30:44was going places in life.
- 30:45And now he's gone because somebody would eventually will probably come out that
- 30:49he was speeding and lost control of the truck.
- 30:52God rest his soul. Yeah, that's horrible.
- 30:56Yeah, absolutely horrible. One, this is why it's important to wear seatbelts. Man.
- 31:02Don't be too cool for the seatbelt. I can't drive without a seatbelt now.
- 31:07I'm so used to it. You know, don't be too cool for the seatbelt. They do save lives.
- 31:14Yes, when it first came out, we were all like, why?
- 31:19But it does save lives. It is important to wear seatbelts. I got three seatbelt
- 31:23tickets when I first moved here in a 40-day span. Mm-hmm.
- 31:28Since that day, I've been wearing seatbelts. Yeah, I hear you. I hear you.
- 31:33Were you finished with that, bro? Yeah, yeah. All right. So for my current event,
- 31:38I want to talk about something really current, actually taking place right now
- 31:43as we record this podcast.
- 31:45And this is the No Kings rallies that are happening across the United States,
- 31:53maybe even across the globe. I'm not 100% sure. Tokyo, for sure. Okay. All right.
- 31:59And while it's great, right?
- 32:03Participation is great. Turnout is great. Huge crowds. Is it enough?
- 32:10What does it accomplish? I'm not saying that to be negative,
- 32:15saying that because I'm thinking, are we missing an opportunity here?
- 32:23You know, tomorrow he'll still be president.
- 32:26Next week, he'll still be president.
- 32:29He's not getting impeached because of no king's rallies.
- 32:34So what are we accomplishing by letting everyone know that we're mad? OK, that's cool.
- 32:40But what else? Are you registering people to vote, especially considering with
- 32:46the SAVE Act coming down the pipe?
- 32:49This would be the perfect opportunity to register people to vote without the
- 32:55extra rigmarole of having a passport and all the other silly shit that they're
- 33:01trying to introduce to make it harder to register.
- 33:03This would be the perfect opportunity to be out here registering as many voters to vote as possible.
- 33:10And then you won't have to worry about it when the save act comes.
- 33:13You're like, hey, we just registered another million people.
- 33:17Right. Republican and Democrat. Exactly.
- 33:20Register. Exactly. So, yes, the rally is cool.
- 33:24Yes, we're in solidarity. That's all great. But what action are you doing besides the rally?
- 33:33Do something more. All right.
- 33:36I'm not trying to be negative. I don't want to see a for no kings rally in two
- 33:42months without you saying that you got a plan of action besides just getting
- 33:47together and marching in the streets and all this other stuff.
- 33:51Raise money because. Right.
- 33:53Right. Do something extra. Take initiative. Take another action.
- 33:58Register people to vote. Raise campaign funds for people who are running.
- 34:03You know, just do something besides getting together and marching and yelling and holding up signs.
- 34:13All i agree 100 and and
- 34:17and although i i definitely want
- 34:20to see people out and about as you do there has to be a goal added with that
- 34:28and correct they're very well maybe correct but if it is let's hear about it
- 34:33correct exactly we got social media exactly get it out there Exactly.
- 34:38Have everyone share it and go from there. Correct. Correct.
- 34:42Every city that's hosting a no kings rally should have registered to vote tables
- 34:49set up where people are getting registered.
- 34:52Even if you just need to.
- 34:54Hey, my address changed since the last time I voted. Let me just make sure.
- 34:59OK, yeah, yeah, you're still good.
- 35:01You know what I'm saying? Oh, my zip code changed.
- 35:04Where do I need? OK, yeah, you need to go to this precinct to vote.
- 35:07Just just something, some type of action that's actually going to have an effect
- 35:13on future elections, not just against Trump, but future elections,
- 35:18period, regardless of who the candidates are.
- 35:20Correct yeah so that that's that's my
- 35:23that's my current event and we're going to march
- 35:26right into our word our rant about
- 35:29a random topic ah i'm going to get in some trouble i'm oh my god i've been debating
- 35:38with myself all week should i talk about this and you know what screw it i'm
- 35:45just going to get in some trouble right now. I know it.
- 35:48I know I'm going to get pushed back, but I got to say what's on my heart.
- 35:54So there's a new series on Apple TV called Independent Women,
- 36:01starring Kerry Washington, Elizabeth Moss, Kate Mara, and a few others.
- 36:09This isn't a rant about that series.
- 36:15This is a rant about Kerry Washington.
- 36:19I love Kerry Washington. I think she's a great actress. I really do.
- 36:27But you know what I am sick of?
- 36:31Kerry Washington and the white love interest.
- 36:36Every series that she appears on, she has a white love interest.
- 36:44I'm kind of tired of it. Scandal. White love interest.
- 36:50The joint she had with Delroy Lindo. I'm sorry I forget the title,
- 36:54but, you know, he was her father that just got out of jail.
- 36:57Her ex-husband. White. Last King of Scotland. White.
- 37:03This new show, Independent Women, Joel Kinnaman, is the white love interest.
- 37:10And I'm just like, what's up with that? And you're married to an African man.
- 37:16I don't get it, bro. I don't. I didn't. I didn't watch the. What was the other
- 37:22one with Reese Witherspoon?
- 37:23And I know what you're talking about. Yeah, I didn't. I didn't.
- 37:26I didn't watch that. So I don't I don't know if she had a white love interest on that.
- 37:31But there's a trend here. right there's Tiana Taylor what's the movie that just
- 37:39won best picture one battle after another I was about to say this that in the third.
- 37:45I know that wasn't it but I was going to play oh man one battle after another,
- 37:53she don't have one white love interest she has two white love interests in this
- 38:02movie to go back to our burn Hollywood burn episode.
- 38:08Y'all should go check that out. It's a good episode. There's a trend here.
- 38:13This is one of my gripes with Hollywood. You have a young black, attractive woman.
- 38:20You can't wait to match her up with the white man so they can be the love interest,
- 38:27regardless of the white man.
- 38:29Age difference, whatever, et cetera.
- 38:32You're getting paired up with the white man. It'll help your career.
- 38:36They did it to Holly Berry.
- 38:38They did it to Angela Bassett. They do it to Kerry Washington.
- 38:43They're doing it to Tiana Taylor.
- 38:46When will it stop? There's subliminal messaging taking place here.
- 38:52Man, you just racist. No, no, no, no. No, there is subliminal messaging taking
- 39:00place here that dates all the way back to slavery.
- 39:05You often bring it up about how they sexualize a black woman and they always
- 39:11make it seem like it's the black woman who can't resist the white man.
- 39:17But rarely, and I mean rarely, do you see your young white starlets get paired
- 39:25up with black romantic leads.
- 39:29And when it does happen, it's always outrage.
- 39:34What are you doing to your career? What are you doing? You're going to lose your fan base.
- 39:39This is the issue that I have with this. This is my issue with Kerry Washington.
- 39:44Please stop. I'm just saying, please, please stop pairing her up with the white
- 39:51man on every freaking show that she's on.
- 39:55And nine times out of 10, she's the side piece, which makes it even worse,
- 40:00in my opinion. I didn't think about that.
- 40:03Scandal, she was the side piece on this new show. She's the side piece.
- 40:10It off. I'm just saying for real, knock it off. And she's not a new actress.
- 40:17She's been, she, she has pull. Correct.
- 40:21I agree. So, so yeah, she has the ability to reject some of these roles in my opinion.
- 40:27So yeah, I'm just, I'm just, I'm over it.
- 40:32I'm over it. That's my work, bro. Go ahead. Yes.
- 40:37So I want to talk about recent analysis from the Social Security Administration's chief actuary.
- 40:44So it indicates that the 2025 tax
- 40:48and spending law that OBB or that OBB bullshit has created a projected one hundred
- 40:57and sixty nine billion dollar gap in Social Security trust funds over the next 10 years. $169 billion.
- 41:05The law is popular for, at least in right-wing circles, for repealing the windfall
- 41:11elimination provision, but giving long overdue raises to millions of retired
- 41:18teachers and as first responders,
- 41:20it didn't include a way to pay for those extra costs.
- 41:23This mismatch combined with new tax deductions for tips and overtime that reduce
- 41:28payroll tax revenue has moved the projected insolvency date of the trust fund forward to late 2032.
- 41:38So what that means is unless Congress acts within the next six years to find
- 41:42the new revenue source, we could
- 41:44see an automatic across-the-board benefit cut of 23% for all retirees.
- 41:52Well, isn't that their plan, though? I mean, hasn't that been their dream for
- 41:58the last 30 years to get rid of Social Security? Correct.
- 42:02So the reason I chose this as a rant and most of the stuff I just read came
- 42:07from a specific article.
- 42:10Social security for you and I growing up, we were always told it's basically
- 42:13like a savings account. Where the fuck is that money?
- 42:17That's our money. Where is it? And this isn't a bash to Republicans.
- 42:23Hey, Clinton, where is it? George Bush, where is it? That's our money.
- 42:28Obama, where is it? Yeah.
- 42:30Now, Trump is making it worse. Correct. Clearly and statistically, he's making it worse.
- 42:35But the fact that we even argue about Social Security is the strangest political
- 42:42argument that we have in this country, in my opinion.
- 42:45That money is supposed to be sitting somewhere.
- 42:48But y'all been gambling.
- 42:51It's not just that we argue about Social Security.
- 42:55It's the fact that we argue about social programs in general.
- 43:01That's the crazy part. So that's snowfall in New York City. Mm-hmm.
- 43:06Remember the exact dollar amount, but it was a lot. That man called out the
- 43:11city. I think it was like $30 an hour, $20 an hour.
- 43:14The city sidewalks now, somebody in New York might be listening.
- 43:18I know it didn't clear every sidewalk in the city, but the Manhattan,
- 43:22the main streets and sidewalks were clear.
- 43:25He got pushback on it. That's a social, no, that's a job, paying for a job to be done.
- 43:33He recently did the same thing for potholes. Apparently they filled 8,000 potholes
- 43:39in one day in New York City.
- 43:42Well, you just mentioned socialist programs.
- 43:47We wouldn't need socialist programs if people were actually paid an adequate wage.
- 43:55And you took care of your elderly as you are supposed to. Because they took care of you Correct.
- 44:02When they were in their early years. Correct.
- 44:05You fight against an increase in minimum wage, saying that it will actually cost people jobs.
- 44:12No data to support that, by the way.
- 44:14But you you you you you you argue against raising minimum wage.
- 44:20You argue for tax on tips, which most waiters and waitresses don't make enough
- 44:27tips that they have to file taxes anyway on it, right?
- 44:31So your tax on tips isn't really for service people. It's really for people
- 44:38who get left gobs of money.
- 44:41That's what the no tax on tips is really about.
- 44:45People who inherit money so they won't have to pay taxes on it.
- 44:49It's not about the service industry.
- 44:51You don't make enough from from from tips.
- 44:56You know what I'm saying? So I want to talk about that, too.
- 44:59Minimum wage real quick.
- 45:01The MIT Living Wage Calculator, this was updated in February of this year.
- 45:07The federal minimum wage should be $21 an hour across the board,
- 45:12flat out, no ifs, ands, or buts about it, based on increase in wages.
- 45:17Based on inflation. Based on cost of living and inflation. Yeah, absolutely.
- 45:20So in places like California, New York, and Massachusetts, it should be $30 plus.
- 45:27Bro, is that what? $7.50? $7.25, ain't it? $7.25, bro.
- 45:33Some states have actually increased it to like $15. $15, which is still a joke.
- 45:37Yeah, but that's few and far between.
- 45:40So $7.25 an hour is $15,000 before taxes. Mm-hmm.
- 45:46$15,000. My first job, I don't know if you remember what you made is your first job.
- 45:51I made $4.15 an hour. I was about to say, bro, it was $4 and something.
- 45:55Yeah. I want you to remember how long we've been working.
- 45:58All our lives, but yeah. 34 years yeah for sure.
- 46:04Wage was, I think, where? It was $4.15. $4.15 or either $4.25.
- 46:10Yeah, one of those. One of those. It's gone up $3.
- 46:13Yeah. In 34 years. Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:17Yeah. If anybody, I don't care who you support, you can be MAGA,
- 46:20you can be whatever. If you don't look at that and say to yourself,
- 46:23well, that's just wrong.
- 46:25Then something's wrong with you in here and in here.
- 46:28Anybody who argues against it, I want them to go try and live off of $7.25 for
- 46:37three months, for $12, for $15.
- 46:42Go do it for three months. You can't do it. You cannot do it.
- 46:46As a single person, it's going to be tough. So if you add children to the mix,
- 46:52there's absolutely no way you can do it without help. There's no way you can
- 46:57do it without a social net program.
- 46:59You need it. We need it. And it'll make everybody better.
- 47:04We often talk about if everyone was making enough, I'm not saying that it would eliminate crime,
- 47:13but it would reduce crime a lot if everyone just had enough to survive. All right.
- 47:20Think about just the end of the blocks that you and I lived on.
- 47:24We lived right next to each other blocks wise.
- 47:27At the end of my block, there was a KFC.
- 47:30At the end of your block, there was a Dairy Queen. And then right across the
- 47:34street was the Burger King.
- 47:36Correct. All of them were closed within five years of us leaving high school.
- 47:40That's crazy. What's the way it's supposed to work? Because a lot of people
- 47:43we knew worked at that KFC making decent money.
- 47:46Same as the Burger King and the Dairy Queen. Thank you.
- 47:51Nothing there sterks is gone oh man
- 47:54sterks sterks is gone bro so my
- 47:58first job bro yeah yeah yeah and
- 48:01mine was across the street yeah my point is could one consider that a food desert
- 48:07at this point well well all d is right there across the street and then you
- 48:11got foods for less which is basically kroger but before kroger but still that's
- 48:15up by is it by walmart walmart yeah yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Old Walmart.
- 48:19Yeah. But, I mean, you can't walk anywhere. That's my point,
- 48:23is it's not in walking distance.
- 48:25Yeah, it might only be a mile and a half from where we grew up, if that.
- 48:29But if you're carrying a bag of groceries, that walk is a whole lot harder.
- 48:33Right. I mean, that's an employment district. Mm-hmm.
- 48:37That's and don't live on certain streets where we grew up. You really don't
- 48:41have nowhere to go. Correct.
- 48:43Like on the outskirts. Correct. Going north. Correct. There's nowhere. Correct.
- 48:48Correct. Yeah, it's a lot, bro. So I don't know.
- 48:54Are you finished with that? All right, man. I enjoyed that, actually.
- 48:59All right, y'all. We're going to move into our five on the black hand side movie
- 49:04review. and this week we chose Django Unchained.
- 49:12The D is silent. Take it away, my brother.
- 49:15All right, so Django was released on Christmas Day 2012.
- 49:21It had a production budget of $100 million.
- 49:25It actually ended up grossing $450 million worldwide, which was Tarantino's biggest success.
- 49:31Talking about slavery, go figure. we gonna
- 49:34we gonna we gonna get into him in a second so jamie fox lead character as django
- 49:39christoph waltz who's become one of my favorite actors actually won best supporting
- 49:44actor for his role as dr king schultz leonardo dicaprio as calvin candy samuel jackson as steven.
- 49:54Before mentioned kerry washington as broom hill devon shaft walton gogens is
- 49:59billy crash and Don Johnson as Bennett, because I'm not calling him what they
- 50:04called him in a way. Mm-mm.
- 50:07You want to ask? Okay, yeah. So we mentioned in our Burn Hollywood Burn video,
- 50:14sorry to keep referencing this, but it's just one of those things.
- 50:18Maybe it was Burn Hollywood Burn.
- 50:20Either way, we mentioned that Quentin Tarantino is problematic. Yeah.
- 50:26While we enjoy Quentin Tarantino movies,
- 50:30the issue with Quentin Tarantino is his pervasive use of the word nigger in
- 50:38his movies. ER people. Yeah.
- 50:42Unnecessarily. Most of the time. Unnecessarily.
- 50:47And I think the number puts it at the word appears between one hundred and two
- 50:53and one hundred and ten times in his movies.
- 50:58Now, they actually have it broken down in Hateful Eight.
- 51:04Sixty five times. Jackie Brown. Thirty eight times.
- 51:10And Pulp Fiction, when he was talking about this, this look like a dead nigger depot. Yeah.
- 51:17Unnecessary. Completely unnecessary.
- 51:21So these are the issues. While I enjoy his movies, it's like, bro, knock it off.
- 51:28Like, you don't you don't need to just always say nigger, nigger,
- 51:32nigger, nigger, nigger in your movies.
- 51:35Not cool. And you're not that cool. All right.
- 51:39You don't you don't have a black card where you think, you know,
- 51:43I'm cool and I can just say, no, bro, you don't. All right.
- 51:46If Eminem don't say it, then none of y'all should say it because he's about
- 51:51the only one who can get that card.
- 51:54And he's like, I refuse to do it.
- 51:56So I don't want to hear none of y'all say it.
- 51:59I don't care if you writing for black characters or not is is just unnecessary
- 52:06but anyway to get to get back to django and chain you want you want to talk
- 52:10about some plot points or you want you want to get get
- 52:12me to uh so let me do it or whatever so the setup of the movie it was filmed
- 52:17in 1858 where it starts so which is two years before the civil war it opens
- 52:23with django of course being marched across Texas in the chain gang,
- 52:27where Dr. King Schultz appears.
- 52:30For those who don't know, he's a German dentist turned bounty hunter.
- 52:37He frees Django because he needs him to identify his next bounty,
- 52:42which are the Brittle Brothers. Yes, sir.
- 52:45In exchange for his help, Schultz promises Django his complete freedom,
- 52:48a horse, and $75, which I didn't do the math, but in 1858, A significant amount of money.
- 52:54$75 is a significant amount of bread.
- 52:57So they take down the Brittle Brothers.
- 53:01Schultz realized that Django is basically a natural marksman.
- 53:05Offers them a partnership. So they spend the winter hunting bounties,
- 53:11collecting rewards, so on and so forth.
- 53:13And then that's when Django reveals his ultimate goal is to get his wife groomed
- 53:17back from Candyland. Correct.
- 53:21Yeah, so this movie, while it has some historical context to it,
- 53:32it's often silly at times.
- 53:34So it's a blend of a traumatic slavery story, a traumatic love story,
- 53:42but mixed in with some humorous moments.
- 53:45I mean, I mean, like really humorous moments and also some touching moments as well.
- 53:51And I think the soft spot that he had for Django was the fact that he was in
- 54:00search of his long lost wife and the fact that she knew how to speak German and just sort of.
- 54:06Soft spot i think i think he gave up his life yeah
- 54:09yeah make sure that yeah yeah it's
- 54:13gonna be all right yeah it hit a hit a soft spot
- 54:16so so so yeah they form a bond they
- 54:19form an unlikely friendship and they go on an adventure and they never say like
- 54:24how many years it actually takes but they they just move across the country
- 54:29hunting down white people you know and and uh,
- 54:37It's funny because, you know, Django didn't want to shoot that one guy in front of his son.
- 54:43And, you know, Dr. Schultz like, hey, quit pussyfooting around.
- 54:48You told me you wanted to kill white people. So kill them.
- 54:54But then Dr. Schultz got mad at him when he was being rude to the black slaves
- 55:00when they were marching to Candyland.
- 55:02And, you know, he had to tell him, hey, hold on. you're the
- 55:05same dude who told me to
- 55:09kill this man in front of his son but now
- 55:12you get a queasy stomach when i'm
- 55:15being mean to these slaves he like come on man if if if if we're gonna do this
- 55:22then we need to do it all the way like we can't so it it was it was those type
- 55:28of of moments where I can appreciate the writing of someone like Quentin Tarantino.
- 55:35You know, the conflict between Calvin Candy and Django and they're sort of like
- 55:41battle of wits on the way to Candyland.
- 55:43I can appreciate all of those moments.
- 55:47Just the pervasive use of nigger is just like, you don't have to do it so much, man.
- 55:54Like, come on, man. Yeah, the writing in a lot of his movies,
- 55:58like with this one, Stephen comes off as this, you know, shucking and jiving, blah, blah, blah.
- 56:04And then you see him and Calvin Candy sitting there drinking wine.
- 56:07Different guy. And he is the mastermind of this plantation.
- 56:13Basically running the plantation.
- 56:15Yeah, you just a face. Yeah. I used to serve your father. Yeah.
- 56:19Now you're here, I'm going to serve you. Yeah. But here's what I think. Yeah.
- 56:24Should happen. Yeah. I mean, hell, other than them two sitting in that room
- 56:29drinking wine, one of my favorite reveals of Steven was when- The cane. The cane.
- 56:34When he dropped the cane, it just turned around like, you know, I count six bullets.
- 56:41Didn't just drop the cane. Start walking normal. Walking normal and the speech pattern changed.
- 56:48Yep. All of that. Everything. Yeah.
- 56:50Yeah. Oh, you thought I was just some dumb. Cold switching. Cold switching. Exactly.
- 56:56To survive as long as he did. Exactly. You thought I was just some old pick-a-nanny.
- 57:00Like, no, I'm actually intelligent just like you.
- 57:03Which is why Django didn't show him no mercy because he like,
- 57:06oh, bro, you've been faking the funk the whole time.
- 57:10Treating these people like this. Yeah. Like, you definitely about to get it.
- 57:18We're trying not to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it,
- 57:24but you really should go check it out.
- 57:28Did Leo win? Mm-mm. But he got nominated. Yeah, he didn't win until he was fighting
- 57:33the Baron. Didn't have but a couple words.
- 57:35He should have like five Oscars at this point. Schultz won.
- 57:39He won Best Supporting Act. Best Supporting. Okay. And then did Jamie get nominated?
- 57:44I don't think so. Jamie didn't even get nominated.
- 57:46And Samuel Jackson didn't get nominated either. So only Leo and Schultz got nominated.
- 57:52I don't even know if Leo got nominated for this one. I can't remember.
- 57:55He's been nominated nominated so many damn times
- 57:58yeah yeah yeah for some reason i was
- 58:00thinking he got nominated for best lead i don't know i don't know it's not important
- 58:05but i but but but you're right christoph did win for uh jango and chain so so
- 58:12yeah like like we were saying there are some touching moments there are some
- 58:15comedic moments there are some action dude that kkk KC.
- 58:21Hilarious. Who cut these hoes in these masks? My wife did. Man.
- 58:28Hilarious, bro. Hilarious. Don't ask me and mine for nothing.
- 58:32I'm going home. Yeah, him and.
- 58:37Jonah Hill. Why do I keep forgetting Jonah Hill? I always want to call him Seth
- 58:41Rogen for something. Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, I don't know.
- 58:46Not nowadays, though. Yeah, I feel you. So something that stuck out,
- 58:53but nobody really talks about his outfit, which one, the blue suit.
- 59:00Yeah. Okay. So I looked up the backstory of it.
- 59:06So it was originally a.
- 59:11Homage to a 1770 painting called the blue boy so in this movie though it was used to.
- 59:21Basically announce his arrival because he picked that outfit out because he
- 59:25didn't know what a free slave dress correct however dressing him in aristocratic
- 59:30european clothes that normally white men only announced that he was to be taken
- 59:35serious because just as quentin tarantino overuses words,
- 59:40he also overdoes it on a lot of other things. Correct.
- 59:43Dude, you got to think about it. When he first came around with that suit on,
- 59:48everybody's response was, what the fuck is this? Yeah.
- 59:51But it's an announcement in the movie that he is to be taken serious.
- 59:55He's loud. He's brash. So you can't just ignore me, especially when they rolled
- 59:59up on Don Johnson's plantation.
- 1:00:02You think the part in his fro, when he first rescued him,
- 1:00:07do you think that was a nod to uh frederick
- 1:00:10douglas could be yeah yeah i
- 1:00:13always looked at that i was just like i wonder if that was like a nod to
- 1:00:16frederick douglas but yeah even even with
- 1:00:19him riding the horse when they went into
- 1:00:22that one town and everyone was like what is going
- 1:00:25on here think about how samuel jackson reacted
- 1:00:28when they seen him on the horse yeah couldn't fathom yeah
- 1:00:32black man riding a horse yeah yeah and and
- 1:00:35there was there was something else to his saddle man i
- 1:00:39found something about that it was the d branded on the saddle basically to show
- 1:00:43that you know he was reclaiming his name okay all right yeah yeah that's cool
- 1:00:49you like to do little known facts you know at the end that was actually jamie fox's real horse.
- 1:00:59End when they blow up candy land oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that
- 1:01:02was actually jamie fox's real horse when he's
- 1:01:05doing the tricks and everything yeah he was like
- 1:01:08i couldn't get another horse and teach him so i
- 1:01:10had to get my own horse in here so yeah that was actually a horse from his personal
- 1:01:16stable at the end of the movie that was doing the tricks and stuff gonna be
- 1:01:20obedient yeah yeah yeah yeah it's his horse yeah yeah and you know he didn't
- 1:01:25have to you know they have to spend that time and trying to train them, whatever, whatever.
- 1:01:28So yeah, that's just a little known fact that Jamie Forrest is actually a horse guy.
- 1:01:33He rides horses in real life and trains them and actually has a stable.
- 1:01:38I also love the fact that he took Calvin Candy clothes at the end also. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:46My favorite, and my brother makes this one of my favorite, because the way he
- 1:01:50laughs about it, which I guess is my laugh too.
- 1:01:53Say goodbye to Miss Lord. Bam! I said, say goodbye to Miss Laura.
- 1:02:00Bye, Miss Laura. Man, the way she disappeared. She, right.
- 1:02:05It reminds me of, it's either End of the Dragon or Return.
- 1:02:09When he kicked old boy. Oh, and his head. And his head flew down to the screen. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:13I think that's End of the Dragon. Man, I was, man, my brother sent a video of
- 1:02:18him watching that one time, laughing. Yeah.
- 1:02:22And since then, I'm like, yeah, that's a funny ass scene. He's like,
- 1:02:26I said, say bye to Miss Laura.
- 1:02:29Bye, Miss Laura. Blew her ass away.
- 1:02:32You know, the other thing that stuck out to me was the buck fighting.
- 1:02:38Yeah. Fight to the Mandingo. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is hard to watch, man.
- 1:02:46And it also illustrates how they really felt about black men.
- 1:02:51But you know what else is crazy, too? Historians actually debate whether or
- 1:02:54not that was a real thing. And I always say to myself, huh?
- 1:02:58All the shit that they did to us. You're debating that? Right.
- 1:03:03Right. That's your debate? Right. So what, wait, so they think that it wasn't
- 1:03:09real because it would devalue them?
- 1:03:11Just the accuracy that they say that there's no definite proof that it used
- 1:03:16to happen the way that it did in the movie. And I'm like, okay.
- 1:03:20What the hell do they want? Video evidence?
- 1:03:27Because you know, as a sport I guess they're debating whether or not it was
- 1:03:33an organized sport like cockfighting.
- 1:03:35Like they did it like that. And I'm like so you're debating whether or not these
- 1:03:42horrible people who had slaves put two of them together.
- 1:03:47The same people that was raping the wives of these men and having children. Right.
- 1:03:52Feeding babies to alligators. Alligator bait. You think that they wouldn't stoop that low?
- 1:03:58To make people fight to the death for their entertainment?
- 1:04:02Yeah, whatever. Whatever. I guess it's time to rate this thing.
- 1:04:08I'm going to give it three and a half high fives on the black hand side.
- 1:04:14I can't go any higher than that because again, the use of the word nigger I
- 1:04:24felt was unnecessary, but.
- 1:04:27Even though it was probably more realistic than we realized,
- 1:04:31I really just had a disdain for the Steven character.
- 1:04:36Oh, he's he's and he has said it. Yeah. That character is probably the most
- 1:04:40hated black man. Yeah. I really just had a disdain.
- 1:04:43So so that's why I can't give this a five, but I'll give it a three and a half.
- 1:04:48I still recommend this movie. Go watch it.
- 1:04:50I like it. You'll enjoy it. But yeah, that that that character itself brings this movie down.
- 1:04:57So I got a confession to make before I give my, I didn't watch this movie until like 2018.
- 1:05:04Really? I refused to watch it. Really? Yeah. I went to the movies to see it, bro.
- 1:05:08I just refused to watch it. Just like I've never seen 12 Years a Slave.
- 1:05:14Really? Nope. I've seen clips. I know the Brad Pitt story and all of that.
- 1:05:21I've seen a bunch of clips, but sit down and watch it.
- 1:05:24No, I know what happens, but I have never sat down and watched that movie all over. Interesting.
- 1:05:29I just, I can't do it anymore. Yeah, I feel you. I feel you. I feel you.
- 1:05:34I'm going to go with you. Well, you know what? Now, hold on.
- 1:05:37I want to go back to something we did a couple weeks ago I talked about.
- 1:05:41Christoph Waltz, one of my favorite actors now. White savior.
- 1:05:44He's the white savior of this movie. It couldn't just be. For sure.
- 1:05:49Now, Django got his. Correct. He came out of, you know, standing tall with his wife. Correct.
- 1:05:54And burn, you know, blowing Candyland up. Correct. I understand that.
- 1:05:57But he couldn't have done it.
- 1:05:58Without? Without Christoph Waltz. Correct. He couldn't have done it. Correct.
- 1:06:02He wasn't smart enough. Yeah.
- 1:06:06Yeah, no, I feel you. Definitely. But I'm- Definitely the white savior complex
- 1:06:09and he was the one who actually got the Oscar.
- 1:06:13All the great performances in that movie he was the one who got the
- 1:06:16oscar also there were some funny and great performances i
- 1:06:19think i'm gonna rock with you on that one three and a half definitely can't
- 1:06:23go four or or higher i feel that
- 1:06:25i feel that all right y'all that's our five on the blackhand side movie review
- 1:06:30and now we're going to roll right into our closing monologue my brother the
- 1:06:36floor is yours all right so i'm gonna do something different today i'm gonna
- 1:06:41do something sort of a reading rainbow.
- 1:06:44Oh, wow. I haven't heard that in a very long time. Type of book.
- 1:06:52This book is not a book.
- 1:06:54It's a conversation sponsored by our president.
- 1:07:01All right. Here we go. Hi there. I'm so glad you can join us today.
- 1:07:07You know, sometimes the world can feel a little bit scary.
- 1:07:10People are talking about big things like wars and planes and very expensive buildings.
- 1:07:16But I want to tell you a story about a pen.
- 1:07:19You see, the White House used to have these very fancy pens. They cost $1,000.
- 1:07:24Can you imagine $1,000 for a pen? And the worst part is they didn't even write very well.
- 1:07:31Sometimes there was no ink at all. It made me feel very guilty by nature to give them away.
- 1:07:37So, I decided to use my imagination. I called the man, the head of Sharpie.
- 1:07:43He didn't even know who I was. But I said, I love your pen.
- 1:07:48But it needs to look nicer for when I sign the big trillion dollar contracts.
- 1:07:53And do you know what he said? He said, I'll paint it black.
- 1:07:59And I can even put the White House on it. In gold. Almost real gold.
- 1:08:05To give them to me for nothing. But I said, no, let me pay you $5.
- 1:08:11Now for $5, I have a pen that is hot as a pistol.
- 1:08:15It's a business story. And it just goes to show when you look closely,
- 1:08:19you can find magic in even the simplest marker, but you don't have to take my word for it.
- 1:08:26So ladies and gentlemen, the words I just read to you were brought to you by,
- 1:08:30as I said before, of President Donald Trump during a fucking cabinet meeting on March 26, 2026.
- 1:08:43What?
- 1:08:51The video is worse. Like I had never felt so much sympathy for PDAX and Marco
- 1:08:58Rubio in my life. They look like they wanted to say, dude, shut up.
- 1:09:04These were his words, verbatim, word for word.
- 1:09:09$5. I'm going to give you $5, but you make me an all-black Sharpie,
- 1:09:13which exists, by the way.
- 1:09:16I think it's one in the damn truck. $5.
- 1:09:20To chime in on this? Please.
- 1:09:25Look, look, we still got a few minutes. Please chime in.
- 1:09:30Because usually your closing monologue is to close, so I'm going to be brief.
- 1:09:36Jake Tapper, you claim that them hiding Biden's cognitive decline is one of
- 1:09:43the biggest scandals in history.
- 1:09:47Brother, if you ain't writing this book, you're basically a hypocrite.
- 1:09:52If you don't see the cognitive decline in this guy, you just don't want to see
- 1:09:58it at this point. I'm going to leave it at that.
- 1:10:01All right, y'all. This concludes episode 27 of For the Fam Podcast.
