- 1:12for Johnny Dollar. What you're John Wesley Cosgrave, aren't you? That's right,
- 1:21Well, my name's Johnny Dollar. I'm an insurance investigator. Oh of
- 1:25course I've been expecting a call from you, or at least from somebody like
- 1:27you. What's that supposed to mean? I expect you're interested in why I've
- 1:32insured the life of a bowery bump of fifty thousand dollars. You bet,
- 1:36I am. I want to see you, why not anytime? Only it
- 1:42won't do you any good Tonight and every Weekday Night. Bob Bailey and the

- 1:57Insurance Investigator, Truly Johnny Dollar. Expense Accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar,
- 2:17location, New York, New York to the Lake Signed Life and Casualty
- 2:21Company. Following is an accounting of expenditures incurred during my investigation of the Indestructible
- 2:25mic Matter expense A cont Item nine ten cents the phone called a John Wesley
- 2:34Cosgrave from my dingy little hotel on the Lower east Side. Item ten two
- 2:38seventy taxi uptown to see Sergeant Randy Singer, Detective Division, eighteenth Precinct.
- 2:43You get back to the glad Hand rescue mission in time, after all,
- 2:46when the Lamb boys discovered that so called whiskey was almost pure wood. By
- 2:50the time I got there, Randy, the poor old coop had drunk nearly
- 2:52half the bot. Oh it's too bad. Well, I'm better arranged for
- 2:54him to be hauled out of the morgue. Uh. Oh, Mike's still
- 2:58alive and happy. It's impossible. You don't know the half of it.
- 3:01A week or so ago somebody stabbed him with an ice pick just below the
- 3:05heart. Result, he said, the scar itched a little bits. Two
- 3:08days ago somebody drove a couple of thirty eight slugs throw him. He said
- 3:13it gave him a slight twitch in his side for a few whiles. Johnny,
- 3:15come on, he goes and drinks nearly half a bottle of wood alcohol.
- 3:19Results a bit of a headache. Indestructible mic, indestructible mic. Where
- 3:23is he now? Locked up in my room at the Berkley Hotel with orders
- 3:27to eat the groceries I picked up for him and to let nobody in good
- 3:30good But whoever's trying to get him is going to give up. Hey,
- 3:34did you dig up anything on the beneficiary of his fifty thousand dollars life policy?
- 3:38Cosgrave? Only enough to scare you at death. Listen to this.
- 3:40John Wesley Cosgrave formerly known as John W. Gordon, John Dutchy Gordon alias
- 3:46Skippy Grant alias Duchy Smith eighteen arrests, was only one conviction back in nineteen
- 3:53thirty eight for possession of arcotics. Randy Ever hear a murdering corporation? Sure,
- 3:57but apparently they had a subsidiary. Apparently your friend Gordon or Cosgrave or
- 4:01whatever you like to call him, was one of the big shots in it.
- 4:04But outside of the narcotics bit, the department was never able to really
- 4:08pin anything on him. But this guy's addresses, Yeah, let me see
- 4:11six twenty one. He's forty ninth Street. Yeah, that's not only a
- 4:14respectable neighborhood, but pretty plush. That's right. Well, how recent is
- 4:18his record? What's he doing now? Last pickup was in nineteen forty four
- 4:23numbers game and book making charges dropped for lack of evidence. Then, apart
- 4:27from the record, is he still in the rackets? He is? Nobody
- 4:29can prove it. Like in the old days, he masterminded and let somebody
- 4:31else do the dirty work. It's listed here as a quote retired unquote.
- 4:36Well, my money says he's still in business now if you can prove it
- 4:40the department in the DA's office. I love you, dearly, but I
- 4:44don't think you will. Every time we dragged in a stoolie who could give
- 4:46us what we wanted, something happened to him, like what jump bail?
- 4:50You should have known better than to let him have bail. One of them
- 4:53poisoned in is selling the tombs one breakout and his body was found in the
- 4:57East River. Even won suicide, Like to bet, I can't tie him
- 5:00in with these attempts on Mike Flynn's life. Well, no, that's something
- 5:03else again. Maybe it's something we should have. No no hands off,
- 5:08and I mean I don't get testy about it. John. I like the
- 5:11old guy, and anybody who tries to hurt him has to answer to me.
- 5:15And somebody's tried. Expense ac count out of eleven one sixty five cav
- 5:23Fair to the smart modern apartment building at six two one East forty ninth,
- 5:26where the dorman announced that mister J. Wesley Cosgrave was expecting me and to
- 5:30take the elevator to apartment eleven B. Come in, mister Doner. The
- 5:36apartment was expensively but tastefully furnished with overall carpeting. It felt an inch and
- 5:41a half thick. Several original oils by famous contemporary artists hung on the walls.
- 5:46But it was the man himself who really seemed out of character, with
- 5:48a rundown Randy had given me. He was six one or two, built
- 5:51like a man who spends his odd hours in the gym, quick gray eyes,
- 5:56his hair slinky gray at the temples, and his tailor was a mastic
- 6:00Do you like it, mister Doller? Eh, that is a genuine Picasso
- 6:03you're looking at. And I consider myself very fortunate to possess this original by
- 6:08Salvator Dolly. Oh, and I'm sure you'll appreciate the excellent view of the
- 6:13city from these corner windows. Yeah, I must have the best, mister
- 6:17Dollar, only the best. Oh, sit down, Please? May I
- 6:21pull your drink? No? Oh? Thanks? I suppose you're wondering why
- 6:27I decided to buy old Michael Flynn a life insurance policy in which he's so
- 6:30proud. I am alterly very easy to explain. You see, I was
- 6:36born and brought up in the Lower East Side, mister Dollar, in deplorably
- 6:40poor circumstances. My early life was a never ending struggle for survival and for
- 6:45whatever questionable sort of education I could glean from those about me, Many of
- 6:49them criminals were my only companions. That's all very touching, mister Casker.
- 6:55And I'm afraid I did little to lift myself out of the gutter until one
- 7:00winter night, hungry and broke, I wandered into the Helping Hand Rescue Mission.
- 7:04Yeah, I understand. You still go around there now and then,
- 7:08oh, yes, I do, in the hope that somehow I can help
- 7:11the poor unfortunates there the way the mission and Daddy Bill helped me repay some
- 7:15of the debt I feel, I owe, is that the only reason what
- 7:18do you mean is that the only reason you've given jobs to some of those
- 7:23poor unfortunates from time to time, haven't you? Yes? Yes, I
- 7:26what kind of jobs? What business? That's hardly a concern of yours,
- 7:30mister Dollar. I've contributed much to the mission. I've tried to make life
- 7:34easier for some of the deserving habituaries of the mission. It's the least I
- 7:40can do after so much was done for me. In the case of Mike,
- 7:44why his greatest desire in life was to be the proud owner of life
- 7:46Insurance? Why, I don't know, I do because you sold him on
- 7:51it. That's a lie, that's a desert. Then why make him name
- 7:55you as beneficiary instead of a mission of some other deserving cause that, mister
- 8:00doll it was his own idea, and since it made him happy, I
- 8:03didn't protest I suppose the real reason for this particular desire was this feeling that
- 8:07it might give him dignity. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Now tell me
- 8:11something, where does all your money come from? Duchy Dutch? Who told
- 8:16you that nobody calls me duchy? No more, I knew you and nobody
- 8:18else. Them days are over. I'm respectable, even educate. I wondering,
- 8:22look at my record. I haven't been on the blot since forty four,
- 8:24and that was a bum, mister dollar. I make no pretensions about
- 8:30not having a past. During prohibition and later I made millions, yes,
- 8:33millions, and rum running and the policy racket is a betting commission' on a
- 8:37narcotics. Sure, it was hardly a caper in this town. I didn't
- 8:39have a figure into and I was smart. I pocketed the profits, not
- 8:43my boys. That's why I can afford to be retired and live decent.
- 8:48And I'm going to keep on living this way. You were lucky some of
- 8:50those boys that Mabby yours didn't runt on you. Yeah, thanks to a
- 8:54couple of convenient rubouts that I had nothing to do with. You understand,
- 8:58I managed to take cleave with the law, and now you're as pure as
- 9:03the driven snow dollar. If this was the old days, you wouldn't even
- 9:09live long enough to regret what you're implicating. You think, which makes me
- 9:15dead sure, I'm thinking right. I don't know how much money you've got
- 9:18socked away from those old days. I don't care, but from once you've
- 9:20just admitted to you dollar, not to any judge of da right, And
- 9:24I'll never believe that a clever mind like you are smart enough to keep you
- 9:28out of the pennel. Flattery won't get you. I refuse to believe you
- 9:31could turn down a chance to make a crooked buck. I don't know what
- 9:33kind of jobs you sent out those poor suckers from the mission. On the
- 9:37fact they never came back makes that look pretty bad. You care How along
- 9:39came Mike Flynn, poor old alcoholic Mike. Where the talk of insurance came
- 9:43from? I don't know, but it was too good to pass up and
- 9:46sure his life for fifty thousand bucks. Have him name you as beneficiary,
- 9:50give him a few dollars so he could spend his last days in a happy
- 9:52alcoholic Hays, then rub him out and collect the fifty g listen dollar.
- 9:56If Mike gets knocked off. Neither you nor anybody else is going to be
- 10:00able to tab me with it. And one other thing, Yeah, what's
- 10:01that as a friendly piece of advice? If I was you, I wouldn't
- 10:05even try. Is that a threat? Oh, mister dollar, he made
- 10:11a miserable host of me. Come let me pull you a drink the finus
- 10:15twenty five year old Scotch and we can talk of pleasant things. For some
- 10:22reason or other, I did have the drink with him, but he knew
- 10:24what was in the back of my mind, and I'm afraid I knew I
- 10:26was in the back of his something along the same line as a couple of
- 10:31convenient rubouts once or twice, as when they're of education slipped. But all
- 10:37in all he made a fair conversationist. Finally I left, and all the
- 10:41way down to the street, I kept wanting to look back to see if
- 10:43I was being followed. Somehow, somewhere there was a way to get this
- 10:48Cosgrave, but I could see would have to be through someone else, someone
- 10:52working for him, and whoever that might be could very well be out to
- 10:54get me first or Mike. I am twelve two ninety five taxi back to
- 11:00the Breakley Hotel, where I hope the old boy was still locked up on
- 11:03my rope he was. Oh well, Johnny man. Now I was beginning
- 11:09to wonder what had happened to you? Hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 11:11what was the matter with that food I left with you? You hardly
- 11:15touched I had enough. It was kind of dry, though, kind of
- 11:18dry. There's a container of coffee there. Yes, the coffee just doesn't
- 11:22seem to quench my thirst. We should let me bring the rest of that
- 11:24bottle alone. That one alcohol, any more of that would have killed you.
- 11:28Yeah, I did have a kick. I don't know how you live
- 11:33through it. Well, look now I want some lunch, and Mike,
- 11:35I'm gonna take you along with me. Oh that'll be. I could I
- 11:37have maybe a little drink too, Oh sure you can have one? Oh
- 11:39that's nice. Good of course, the size of the drinks they serve nowadays.
- 11:43Just one? Now, come on, Oh that's fine. One we'll
- 11:46be There's a lovely saloon just around the corner, you know, even sandwiches
- 11:52for those that one. M I understand. Oh, these stairs, maybe
- 11:56we could just bring a bottle back, whether it's to your room, if
- 12:00we are going to come back, sweet funny. Also, I loved him,
- 12:03and I knew that without me he'd be a dead one so fast,
- 12:09So far, the attempts on his life had been made by persons unknown unless
- 12:13the mission Daddy Bill. Could Daddy Bill be somehow tied in with Cosgraves operations.
- 12:20I wanted I paid the check that's item thirteen twenty five when we started
- 12:26walking to the Glen Ann Rescue Mission along some of the back streets. I
- 12:30want a time to think it out, if I could think over the incessant
- 12:33pleasant check. I'm really enjoying life now that I have money now, and
- 12:37then sometimes I get on the subway and I just ride all over town all
- 12:39day. Yeah, yeah, you told me. Why don't you try that
- 12:43sometimes? Johnny really want to say, there's a bar there on the corner.
- 12:46Why don't we just let's past them? John Why do you feel that
- 12:50you have to look after me this? You know? Darn well? Why
- 12:54hey, watch that curve. Why I'm looking after you, It's because somebody's
- 12:56under like Mike, Mike listened to me. Can you hear me, Mike,
- 13:05Hey, mister, get a cop an ambulance mean for him? Or
- 13:07what's left of them? Yes, hurry, what's the matter with you?
- 13:11Use your eyes, buddy, It's too late, Johnny Dollar. Johnny,
- 13:31this phone number you left for me to call it. You at Bellevue Hospital?
- 13:35Yeahy, what's wrong? You would headquarters? Yeah, the truck ran
- 13:37over Mike Flynn and I'm sure it was deliberate. But he's alive. I
- 13:41hope he was four hours ago and I dragged him in here. Indestructible MinC.
- 13:46I'm not so sure this time. What about that truck? You get
- 13:48the license? Yeah? The boys are the first pre singer working on it.
- 13:50Check with HM you while I stay here at the hospital, Johnny,
- 13:54and one other things. Yeah, find out how long that glad hand rescue
- 13:56mission has been in existence place where all Mike's been living. Yeah, why,
- 14:00I don't know yet, But do it? Will you? Sure?
- 14:03And you let me know when Mike's out of danger? Huh, Johnny,
- 14:07better pray a little bit, Randy. Expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny
- 14:20Dollar, location, New York, New York to the Lake Sidne Life and
- 14:22Casualty Company, following as an accounting of expenditures incurred during my investigation of the
- 14:28Indestructible MIC matter. Of an air of class and education assumed by Jay Wesley.
- 14:35Consgrave just wasn't think enough to hide the fact that he was better known
- 14:39a few years ago as Duchy Gordon. And to the old time racketeer,
- 14:43it looked like a cinch. Pick up a bowery bomb like Mike Flynn,
- 14:46insure his life of fifty grand, give him a few weeks a high living,
- 14:50then knock him off and collect the insurance. Yeah, real cinch,
- 14:54especially for Cosgrave, who learned as far back as the early days of prohibition
- 14:58how to employ hired thugs to do the dirty work. Well, he sat
- 15:01back and collected the profits. I knew as surely as I'm sitting here that
- 15:05Cosgrave was behind the knifing, the shooting, and now this accident to old
- 15:09Mike. But how to prove it? Yeah, sitting here in the waiting
- 15:13over of the hospital, waiting waiting for some word of Mike's condition. Oh,
- 15:20yes, Doc, can I see him now? Very shortly? I
- 15:22believe? Oh how is he? Is he? A phone call for you
- 15:24at the floridask? Oh wait, please, thanks, but how is Mike?
- 15:30Doc? How is he? You'll be able to see him shortly?
- 15:33Yeah? Yeah, oh, it's nice Johnny Dollary. Oh, mister Dollar,
- 15:39I was quite sure that you would be there at the hospital. This
- 15:41is J. Wesley Cosgrave. What made you think that? Why? Because
- 15:46of the accident to Michael Jeremiah Flynn, How did you know about it?
- 15:48I kept it out of the papers. I find it helpful to know about
- 15:52a lot of things that don't get into the papers. Well, your boy,
- 15:54goofed Cosgrave. Mike is still alive. My boy, you know as
- 15:58well as I do, Duchy, that one of your mob was at the
- 16:00wheel of that truck that ran him down. You better keep you a yep
- 16:03shirt, Dollar run. I thought I made it plain to you earlier that
- 16:10I no longer have any connection with the doings of the shall we say underworld?
- 16:14Oh sure sure. As for poor old Mike, I understand it was
- 16:17an accident, very unfortun Knock it off, Cosgrave. I was there when
- 16:19it happened. Oh yeah, pretty stupid of It would be killer to try
- 16:23that with an investigator right next to Mike, wasn't it. Did you see
- 16:26the driver of the truck, I suppose I did you say he wasn't one
- 16:30of your boys? So what difference would it make to you. Why no,
- 16:33none at all? Did you see him? Why don't you worry about
- 16:38that? For a while? Again I waited, He sat and waited and
- 16:48paced the corridor of the hospital. Outside. The sun sank slowly behind the
- 16:52horizon of skyscrapers, and the busy clamor of the day's traffic segued to the
- 16:56softer, muffled but still busy traffic hum up night. And I waited and
- 17:02smoked and waited. Finally, it must have been close to midnight, the
- 17:07nurse led me quietly down the hall and indicated the private room that I'd had
- 17:11set aside for Mike. After a brief instruction about not staying too long,
- 17:15she pushed open the door for me, and she tiptoed away. And there
- 17:22lo and behold and all this glorious head, swathed in bandages but wearing a
- 17:26smile of mile wide set, indestructible. Mike, Johnny, Mike, Oh,
- 17:33Mike, you will reprobate it. I guess there is something in prayer,
- 17:37after all. How about this Johnny in this well? Isn't this the
- 17:41finest place you ever said? Oh? Mike, You're gonna be okay,
- 17:45aren't you gonna yeah, I am, but I guess I had those doctors
- 17:49scared. Oh my, my mind, Johnny. You just should have seen
- 17:55the way they fluttered around. Or and those nurses, Johnny, I never
- 17:57saw such beautiful ladies. No, I am so nice, and doesn't it
- 18:03smell good in here? But dis in fact they used here as much nice
- 18:06And Daddy Bill has the mission. And you know, somebody, I haven't
- 18:08seen a single bit bub, not even a cockrow. No, Mike,
- 18:12Mike, I'm so glad to see in one piece. Sure I am,
- 18:17but an old bum hasn't any righting and pretty place like you had no more
- 18:21business living through that accident. Then, Oh, Johnny, how you talk?
- 18:23Yeah? Yeah, and you mustn't talk so much. No matter how
- 18:26good you feel, you need rest, time to heal up whatever got broken
- 18:30broke me. Well, you still need rest and quiet. Here. I'll
- 18:33turn off this light. I'll see in the morning. Oh but Johnny,
- 18:41Yeah, Johnny, how can I just sleep too much? Pain? Want
- 18:48the nurse to give you a hype hoe? Oh? They filled me up
- 18:49with more needles than you ever saw. But there's only one real pain killer,
- 18:55you know. Yeah, I'll see you later. If the Administration of
- 19:04Bellevue Hospital ever found out that I was back in Mike's from a few minutes
- 19:07later, and why they'd probably have my neck. But I didn't leave the
- 19:12whole bottle with him. I swear it only about three fingers in his water
- 19:15tumbling, and the blissful expression on his face as he closed his eyes to
- 19:19sleep made me sure I'd done right. I am fifteen one eighty taxi back
- 19:27to my dingy little hotel, and I thanked whatever gods may be that all
- 19:32Mike could pull through even right. They just couldn't seem to kill him so
- 19:36far, but I knew they wouldn't give up, not with fifty thousand dollars
- 19:40at stake, fifty thousand more to line the pockets of Dutchy Gordon, who
- 19:44I was sure was just as much of a racketeer as ever, despite his
- 19:47present name of J. Wesley Cosgrave and his pretense of gentility. Because his
- 19:51henchman had always feared to squeal or died violently before they could, the police
- 19:55had nothing on him. My job was to find one of the mob,
- 19:57make him sing. How I guess I was still thinking or dreaming about it
- 20:03when my phone rang the next morning. Hello, Joy Dollar. This is
- 20:07Jersey Who oh Johnny Dollar. Hey he's still in bed? Oh, Randy?
- 20:19Yeah, I thought you were gonna call me. Is he still alive?
- 20:22He sure was when I last saw him about midnight. Well that's a
- 20:25miracle after what that truck did to him, and say, yeah, the
- 20:29boys downtown found that truck. Yeah, he had been stolen and was abandoned.
- 20:33Did they find any princi plenty, who's lefty skillman? Well have they
- 20:37picked a Yeah? Yeah, they found him all right, died up in
- 20:38a sack floating in the East River. Old time gangstersh So help me.
- 20:42I knew that when cosgre Si Mike's gonna be okay, Randy, he was
- 20:47sitting up in bed, pricky as a cockatoo. No, I don't know
- 20:49how he does it. Why he was all ready to pack up and go
- 20:52back to the glad Hand Rescue Mission. Felt he didn't deserve to be in
- 20:56such a nice, clean place as the hospital. Bless his foolish Did you
- 21:00find out anything for me about that flophouse? Yeah, that's what I called
- 21:03you about. But you still haven't told me. What'd you find? Well,
- 21:06according to the records, the building was put up in nineteen oh one
- 21:10as a mission as a pianos store. Nineteen one to nineteen six real respectable
- 21:15place. Then well that section began to degenerate. Nineteen six to eighteen was
- 21:21a cheap grocery store, eighteen for nineteen fifty six, nineteen eighteen to twenty
- 21:26two was the second hand clothing store, and to speak easy nineteen twenty nine,
- 21:30you going y, I guess the depression knocked that out because next it
- 21:33was a saloon. How long. Let's see nineteen forty four, that's when
- 21:38William Grover Larkin took over the lease. Daddy Bell, Yeah, Randy,
- 21:44I know it. Yeah what Duchy Gordon alisj Wesley Cosgrave told me that he'd
- 21:48got a hand from that mission when he was just a kid. That would
- 21:51have meant twenty five thirty years ago at least. Yeah, it's only been
- 21:53a mission for twelve Hey, wait a minute. Lease on that property when
- 21:59it was speak Easy was in the name of Larkin too. Had one more
- 22:03effect, Randolph, and you see what I'm getting at what's your own police
- 22:06files show Cosgrave was still in the rackets in forty four. Yeah, but
- 22:10on a charge that we couldn't substantial right, tie him up. Cosgrave was
- 22:14a rum runner during Prohibition. Daddy Bill ran to speak for him since nineteen
- 22:17forty four. Whoa, whoa, Now, boy, you're trying to build
- 22:18a case on purely circumstantial eleven? All right, but I think I can
- 22:22make it stick. Now, listen, where does Cosgrave get the thugs for
- 22:25whatever job he's pulling? Now? If he is, of course he is,
- 22:29and he gets him out of that flophouse. The boys he gives jobs
- 22:32to that I've never seen again, remember, Yeah, wow, Hey,
- 22:34maybe it does tie or you bet your sweet life it does. At least
- 22:37I'm going to tie it up here, and then I take it easy.
- 22:40Johnny, Just how are you going to go about? Well? The first
- 22:41thing I got, hold it? What's the matter? Somebody outside the door
- 22:47of this room, I think, hold on? Ready, No, no,
- 22:48no, wait a minute, Johnny, all right, what do you
- 22:55think you're doing? Whoever hit me with, whatever he hit me with,
- 23:02wasn't full of me? And the second before I passed out, I vaguely
- 23:06remember hearing a voice, the voice of the room clerk, shouting at whoever
- 23:10it was, and the sound of footsteps running away in blackness and a dark
- 23:17heavy throbbing in my head. Then, after a long time, another familiar
- 23:21voice. It was Randy, I think dimly somewhere along the line. I
- 23:27could see figures bending over me, hear the voice again, and more darkness,
- 23:33and the weird sounds in my brain. Other sounds too that seemed familiar.
- 23:38It seemed meaningless, meaningless, meaningless. Finally, after an eternity of
- 23:48jumble sounds and shadows, a cold, bright light pierced into my slowly returning
- 23:52consciousness. Momentarily, I could see a man in white and women. Yeah,
- 23:56yeah, a hospital. He's with a doctor and the nurses. I
- 24:00tried to speak to them. I couldn't. It's slowly a realization of what
- 24:04had happened came to my model. Randy on the telephone had heard the attack
- 24:08on me and had brought help. An ambulance had brought me here. For
- 24:12a brief moment, I saw the gwind of a needle poised about my arm.
- 24:18Then blackness again, but a soft, quiet, peaceful blackness. Johnny,
- 24:30Johnny, Johnny, Oh wow, well Johnny, that's the wake up
- 24:41Mike. That's right, isn't it nice they put you in the same room
- 24:47with me? Yeah? Right, you're a policeman. Friends are and he
- 24:53told me something, Johnny, and he's right. You got to make Therefore
- 25:00they're out to get you too. Now here's our star to tell you about
- 25:19the final intriguing episode of this week's story Tomorrow. Well, all, Mike
- 25:23may have been indestructible, but I knew by now that I wasn't so tomorrow
- 25:27and the wind up it had to be while I was still alive. Join
- 25:32us, won't you? Yours Truly? Johnny Dollar? Yours Truly Johnny Dollar
- 25:45is starring Bob Bailey is transcribed in Hollywood. It is produced and directed by
- 25:48Jack Johnstone, who also wrote tonight's story. Be sure to join us to
- 25:53onorrow night at the same time in station for the next exciting episode of Yours
- 25:59Trulyjohnny Dollars, Roy Roman speaking, welcome back. Well, I have to
- 27:38say this that despite some issues, this does feel a lot better than previous
- 27:45Johnstone written stories. Really, as he's going through this, he's keeping a
- 27:52good mix of the serious and the more comical elements of Indestructible Mike's story.
- 28:02How it'll all pay out in part five, Well, that we're going to
- 28:06have to listen for all right. Well, now we turn to listener comments
- 28:11and feedback and receive this from l K who writes in actually on an old
- 28:18episode of Rogues Gallery, Dick Powell, in my espen estimation, was a
- 28:23man of little talent but having a great ego. Listening to him, you
- 28:29can hear the self sertified smirk in his voice. I'm not a fan,
- 28:33and some radio shows were much better when left, when stars left them to
- 28:38do films. Well, everybody's got their opinion. I think that Palell certainly
- 28:44had some great talent as a singer, and he may have been best actor
- 28:51to ever play Philip Marlow on the silver screen. And he definitely has some
- 28:56good comedic timing, so I think I think he was number thirty one on
- 29:03my list of Radio's most essential people. But people can have differing opinions.
- 29:07But when I put Powell, you know, as one of the as probably
- 29:12the best actor to play Philip Morrel on the silver screen, it definitely means
- 29:18something, given that Humphrey Bogart was another one. All right, Well,
- 29:23that will actually and I'll actually would say maybe it'd be better to say the
- 29:30best overall portrayal of Philip Morrow, because overall I think Bogart was a better
- 29:33actor, but Powell was in their league in my opinion. All right,
- 29:38well, we'll see you back here tomorrow with Nick Carter, and join us
- 29:41on Friday as we wrap up the Indestructible Mike Matter. In the meantime,
