- 0:00Ohio, Myke, Crispiano, Adam Giardino joined by Jim Penderson. What was
- 0:04a strange eighth inning. But let's let's get We'll get that at a side.
- 0:07Let's talk about Garrett Co five and a third longest stint of the year.
- 0:10Uh, he got you up to a pretty good start, and I
- 0:13know you were hoping for that and you got that. Yeah, it really
- 0:16doesn't take I did zero managing and putting him, you know in that spot
- 0:22today, there was it was an obvious choice. I mean, and people
- 0:25from the outside might be, oh my god, Co's going game one.
- 0:29If you pulled our if you took a secret poll of everybody associated on the
- 0:33inside of our you know, with our program inside out, they all would
- 0:38have said Garritko, Garritko, Garricko, you know, and twice on Sunday.
- 0:41Because he's got guts, he's got courage, he's not going to be
- 0:44afraid. He loves the big momentum. Even when he's struggling. He's able
- 0:48to separate pitches. You know, one pitch doesn't have anything to do with
- 0:51the next pitch. He's got great self talk, great self evaluation abilities,
- 0:57and he's a leader. You know, so very happy for him. He
- 1:00did a super job. You know, Zach Fogel gets the game ball because
- 1:03he got the win, but Garrett was just as important, if not more.
- 1:07When you when the team is down. We've talked about the countless comeback
- 1:11victories so far this season. Were you seeing it in the guys that okay,
- 1:15this is going to happen even though we're down to run late. Yeah,
- 1:18there's no there's no panic. I mean, there's zero I called there's
- 1:22no real anxiety because it's just so common, um, you know, and
- 1:26it's you know, you kind of you come to expect it. It's like,
- 1:30all right, here we go. Smitty leads off with a clean single
- 1:33and you know, I mean then we have great base running from him because
- 1:37on that ball that Dom has the excuse me single on that was not a
- 1:41hit run, you know, he just he got fooled on a pitch.
- 1:44He got enough barrel on it to kind of create some confusion. Thank goodness,
- 1:48Smithy was running. Otherwise it's an easy out. But what smith does
- 1:52there is he just keeps running because if the second baseman catches the ball,
- 1:56he's out by ninety feet anyway, So just keep coming and because of that,
- 2:00he ran so hard. I'm able to send him with nobody out,
- 2:02and I got to be sure I could score him with nobody out. But
- 2:06it was an easy send in retrospect because he's so fast and he was running
- 2:09hard. So yeah, we did get a little luck in the eighth,
- 2:12but we got no luck early. I mean, we're hitting some balls on
- 2:15the screws. So it's interesting how the baseball gods sometimes have it all even
- 2:19out, and sometimes it doesn't happen in the span of one baseball game,
- 2:22but it did today, thankfully. Yeah, Brian Padia could attest to that.
- 2:25Yeah, he had two bullets and he made four outs right right.
- 2:29Yeah, and you know he didn't execute a bond, not one, you
- 2:34know, with the other two. It's like he hit hits one on the
- 2:36screws to right center. He hits a shot at the third baseman early,
- 2:39we get a run on it, but double play ball and the momentum goes
- 2:43back and the other dugout. But yeah, you're right. I mean some
- 2:45balls were hit really really well. I liked our swings earlier. I think,
- 2:47you know, some opposite field singles from mac Garbowski from David Smith you
- 2:53know, we had some nice defense to Don Freeburger in the first inning with
- 2:57that dive and a bounce past the second and couldn't get to his feet.
- 3:00And then Jake Studley in the ninth. I mean, that's a heck of
- 3:02a catch. He didn't see it off the bat, he makes a great
- 3:05adjustment, goes back on it, and that kid's Capualati's a really good hitter
- 3:08and he got all of it. And Jake, thankfully we're in no double
- 3:12so he's deep. But it made a heck of a catch and grab him.
- 3:16Now. One thing that Mike and I were discussing during the broadcast,
- 3:20and you got an explanation, at least at some point from the umpires,
- 3:23what distinguished the difference between getting that call at second for an automatic ball and
- 3:29not getting the automatic ball. You're right, I did get an explanation,
- 3:31but Adam, you would have a better You would have a better idea,
- 3:36because he confused me even more. I have no idea what the rule is
- 3:42now. We've been playing that way for fifty something games now, and you
- 3:49know he called two of them, yeah, and I one for each of
- 3:52us. I mean it made I thought it made a difference on ours a
- 3:53two and oh count versus one ozho, just give us the reset, don't
- 3:59don't call a ball. I mean, I guess in the spirit in the
- 4:01in the rule, that's that's the actual rule. I said, So are
- 4:03we better off throwing it in the dirt, you know like their guy did?
- 4:08Yeah, because I didn't know what differentiated it, and um, he
- 4:12was I don't know, he was pretty nervous. Yeah. I did not
- 4:15feel like I got a great explanation. So you'd have a better chance to
- 4:18just say so, if you are going to throw to second base, it's
- 4:23a good a runner to go back. What do you have to do?
- 4:26Do you have to throw with force? And if you just lob it back,
- 4:28there you go. Today we got called today a ball was called against
- 4:32us the first time all year. So I don't know, I've got to
- 4:35um gotta go back. I don't know the game well enough. I guess
- 4:40you haven't been around long enough. You know, the inside move is if
- 4:45you've played the game, the inside move at second base is such that you're
- 4:49not going to pick a guy off like that, You're he's going to pick
- 4:54himself off. So if the runner goes on leg lift. That's when you're
- 4:58gonna have a pickoff at him. In the absence of that, we've been
- 5:02told, hey, just throw it a second and make it look like a
- 5:04pickoff attempt to get around the rule. So we've done that all year and
- 5:09nobody's called it. Today they decided, I guess there's there could be a
- 5:12supervisor in the stands or more cameras. I don't know, but it made
- 5:15it. But that has to be clarified, don't you think before you're playing
- 5:18more games and you can't write, you can't not know, and then the
- 5:21game starts, and then suddenly balls are getting called and guys getting hind encounts
- 5:26two and all. I'm not saying that that's why Garrett gave up a home
- 5:28running a Rex bitch, but that's got to be disconcerting, right. It
- 5:31didn't help. It didn't help, you know, And when I got the
- 5:34explanation again, it made no sense to me. So okay, all right,
- 5:39thanks, are you coming to the game tonight? What are you doing
- 5:40tonight? We actually think we've done it both ways. We've come and sat
- 5:44behind the the plate and we've actually found that we get better info from the
- 5:48center field camera. So we're probably gonna maybe we'll listen to you guys and
- 5:53watch it watching in the stream. I wouldn't suggest not doing that. It's
- 5:57weird. It's it's easier to it's easier to take no, and we kind
- 6:00of compare notes on them, and um, there's no distractions, there's nobody
- 6:04coming to talk to you, and you can have as many diet cokes as
- 6:06you want. You don't have to worry about anybody's in the stand saying that's
- 6:10too many diet cokes. Go yeah, that's right, all right, Jim.
- 6:13We appreciate it. A good win. Thank you. Every win's a
- 6:15good win.
