- 1:44Speaker 4: Steve Animal from her sister station nine eighty seven The
- 1:47Speaker 4: Mountain Wild a one ful Classic Rock, bumped into Steve
- 1:50Speaker 4: in the hall the other day, probably as he was,
- 1:52Speaker 4: you know, rating my desk, looking for snacks or something,
- 1:55Speaker 4: and he requested that he have a little time on
- 1:58Speaker 4: the air of this morning. Now I know Steves Vaugh
- 2:00Speaker 4: then a whole lot of things in the community probably
- 2:02Speaker 4: wants to touch about that. But to be honest with me,
- 2:04Speaker 4: I'm a little bit scared because I don't know what
- 2:06Speaker 4: the heck he's going to do. But he did. I

- 2:29Speaker 6: Good morning, Hey, good morning, thanks for having me. Chef
- 2:32Speaker 6: Paul's here. I hope he brought breakfast.
- 2:34Speaker 4: That would be nice. Yeah, yeah, he just knows how Ryan's
- 2:37Speaker 4: had just like spun around in there, just woke up. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:43Speaker 4: And I'm glad to have you on today because there's
- 2:45Speaker 4: not a whole lot of my guests that I can
- 2:46Speaker 4: say this too. But after the other night, and I
- 2:48Speaker 4: know it was the giants, I can say, how about them?
- 2:52Speaker 7: How about them Cowboys?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Can you believe that you and I are probably the
- 2:55Speaker 4: two biggest Dallas Cowboy fans around here? I knew I
- 2:57Speaker 4: liked you for some reason.
- 2:58Speaker 7: May be the only two?
- 3:00Speaker 4: No, I don't know about that. There's a there's a
- 3:02Speaker 4: few more out there.
- 3:03Speaker 6: My friend Jerry Nelson, the state farm agent in my
- 3:05Speaker 6: state form agent, he is he's a big Cowboys fan.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Okay, well there's a few around. Ye, there's a few
- 3:10Speaker 4: of us. And next we have the Steelers. All right,
- 3:13Speaker 4: Ray Whiting, I know you're listening because Ray listened to
- 3:15Speaker 4: the show every day. We're coming for you. Oh yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 4: I'm just gonna leave it at that. I'm not making
- 3:20Speaker 4: any predictions.
- 3:21Speaker 7: I'm going to talk that one into the win.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Like I said, Oh, you're going to predict the Cowboys
- 3:26Speaker 4: win absolutely in Pittsburgh.
- 3:28Speaker 6: In Pittsburgh, and you know, I'm most excited about the
- 3:31Speaker 6: Eagles game coming up. Yeah, you got a little Jared
- 3:34Speaker 6: Page and I have a little wager on that, and
- 3:36Speaker 6: we'll see.
- 3:37Speaker 7: I've already bought his Cowboys.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Uh.
- 3:39Speaker 7: It's not just a it's not just a jersey. I
- 3:41Speaker 7: bought him an entire.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Outfit all right, Well, that sounds I can't wait for that,
- 3:45Speaker 4: you know, as I told somebody last week about the Cowboys,
- 3:48Speaker 4: and then, well, I promise we're not gonna talk about
- 3:49Speaker 4: football anymore. As I told somebody last week about the Cowboys,
- 3:53Speaker 4: other than no running game and no defense, they're pretty.
- 3:57Speaker 6: Good, pretty good and special teams.
- 3:58Speaker 4: But well, and we don't know how long Michael Parsons
- 4:02Speaker 4: is going to be out our big stud on defense.
- 4:04Speaker 4: But anyway, let's talk about the judicial INEX. I know,
- 4:07Speaker 4: folks at the County Commission and others been doing some
- 4:09Speaker 4: upgrades there. What can you tell us about the judicial?
- 4:11Speaker 6: You know, we've got three big projects going on right now.
- 4:13Speaker 6: We've got, of course, the renovations that Shawnee, We've got
- 4:17Speaker 6: the capital supports.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Yeah, we're to touch on all those YEA.
- 4:20Speaker 6: And the judicial INXT. But the one that has me
- 4:24Speaker 6: the honestly the most nervous is the judicial as because
- 4:26Speaker 6: we've got time deadlines. I mean, you know, there's we
- 4:29Speaker 6: have a new judge, Rich Lindsay starting in January. We
- 4:33Speaker 6: have three new magistrates starting in January, and we.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Have and I know, listen, let me tell you something
- 4:36Speaker 4: about Lindsay. He's very difficult to get along. He's very
- 4:40Speaker 4: he's very difficult. He wants his office done.
- 4:42Speaker 7: No, you know what. I talked to him the other day.
- 4:45Speaker 7: He doesn't care.
- 4:45Speaker 6: He would work out of a broom close and he's
- 4:47Speaker 6: he's one of the most humble guys I've ever met.
- 4:49Speaker 6: But you know he is, uh, he's coming in. So
- 4:51Speaker 6: we've got to have that. We've got to have it
- 4:52Speaker 6: at least somewhat ready, you know, for him to come in.
- 4:56Speaker 6: But the long term plan, which will take about a
- 4:58Speaker 6: year and a half to two years, is a substantial remodel.
- 5:02Speaker 6: We're thinking it's going to be somewhere around fifteen million dollars.
- 5:05Speaker 6: It's it's going out to bid soon. In fact, I
- 5:09Speaker 6: think the bids will be opened this Thursday at eleven
- 5:11Speaker 6: am at the County Commission courtroom, so we'll find out then.
- 5:15Speaker 6: But it's a very complex project because number one, there's
- 5:19Speaker 6: there's nowhere to stage the equipment is right downtown. You know,
- 5:22Speaker 6: it's not like you can you know it, Shawn, either's
- 5:24Speaker 6: all this space. Yeah, there's nowhere to stage the equipment.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Most of the work has to be done at night
- 5:29Speaker 6: because during the day you've got judicial proceedings going on.
- 5:32Speaker 6: You can't have drills and hammers and you know, craziness
- 5:34Speaker 6: going on. So it's a very and you know, the
- 5:38Speaker 6: upgrades are substantial, so and we're dealing with limited space.
- 5:43Speaker 6: So it's it's a big project.
- 5:45Speaker 7: I am.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Of the three big projects we have going on, that's
- 5:48Speaker 6: the one that keeps me up at night because I
- 5:49Speaker 6: don't know exactly where it's going to come in. This
- 5:53Speaker 6: is not something, honestly, we have an option on. You know,
- 5:55Speaker 6: the legislature passed a law adding additional judges, additional matters.
- 6:00Speaker 6: Have to house them. You know, that's that's our duty
- 6:02Speaker 6: air the law, and so that's what we're gonna do.
- 6:03Speaker 6: We're gonna, you know, make sure that we uh bring
- 6:06Speaker 6: that in as uh as cost efficiently as possible, understanding
- 6:09Speaker 6: that we've we've got to get it done.
- 6:11Speaker 4: And it's difficult sometimes when you're dealing with a building
- 6:15Speaker 4: like the can on account at courthouse. Do you know
- 6:16Speaker 4: what I mean? I mean, you know it's it can't
- 6:18Speaker 4: when you do any old older building, I should say,
- 6:21Speaker 4: it's it's when you're adding on or doing whatever it is.
- 6:24Speaker 6: It's a big project and you know, just to do
- 6:26Speaker 6: the HVAC, which we did during COVID, right around COVID,
- 6:29Speaker 6: it was gosh, I think three or four million dollars.
- 6:32Speaker 6: But you know the HVA it requires a crane and
- 6:34Speaker 6: the HVAC units gigantic and you know, it's anything you
- 6:39Speaker 6: do there, it's a big project just because of the
- 6:41Speaker 6: sheer size of the building. Uh where it's located, you know,
- 6:45Speaker 6: right downtown, so it's it's a little more difficult than
- 6:47Speaker 6: your standard project.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Talking to County commisster Ben Salango, the Dave Allen Chow
- 6:51Speaker 4: and five eighty lie brought to you imparted by bright
- 6:53Speaker 4: Way Insurance, the Maze Agency spend time in your business,
- 6:56Speaker 4: not your insurance. Bright Way Insurance. A maze agency can
- 6:58Speaker 4: help explain the type of insurance you needed based on
- 7:00Speaker 4: your particular line of business, your location, and other important factors.
- 7:04Speaker 4: They can select different insurance companies to make sure you're
- 7:06Speaker 4: getting the rite coverage and prices to protect your business
- 7:09Speaker 4: for more. Because it Brightway mads dot com. What can
- 7:11Speaker 4: you tell us about the Capitol Sports Complex? What's going
- 7:13Speaker 4: on that.
- 7:14Speaker 6: We're still on We're still on track, So basically the
- 7:17Speaker 6: demo is is finished. If you're driving down Leaser, you'll
- 7:21Speaker 6: see that Macy's building has gone. We're working through the
- 7:24Speaker 6: design right now. That's kind of what we're doing. We
- 7:26Speaker 6: hope to have a design that we're going to present
- 7:29Speaker 6: to the public, like the final design in mid October,
- 7:32Speaker 6: and then we will start we'll put it out to
- 7:34Speaker 6: bid and start construction. You know, the goal was to
- 7:38Speaker 6: have it finished. The goal is December of twenty twenty six.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Makes a lot easier when you're doing with it kind
- 7:45Speaker 6: of a blank slate, you know, taking the Macy's building out.
- 7:47Speaker 6: If we'd come in kind of like the Capital the
- 7:50Speaker 6: Judicial Annex renovations, it's a lot harder to remodel and
- 7:53Speaker 6: existing than to start with a blank slate. So hopefully
- 7:56Speaker 6: we can move fairly quickly on that project.
- 7:59Speaker 4: What's the latest on what it's going to look like?
- 8:01Speaker 4: And I know you still got to decide on the
- 8:02Speaker 4: plans because we've kind of gone back and forth on
- 8:04Speaker 4: some different things, the aquatic part of it. So what
- 8:07Speaker 4: can you tell us there?
- 8:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I wish we could bring in the aquatic center.
- 8:10Speaker 6: You know, we've got a couple of different problems there.
- 8:12Speaker 6: Number one, we don't have the space for it. You know,
- 8:15Speaker 6: we were unable to acquire the parking garages, which we
- 8:18Speaker 6: I can promise you we tried very hard to make
- 8:21Speaker 6: that happen. Secondly, prices are way up, and so what
- 8:24Speaker 6: would have been an eighty million project two years ago
- 8:27Speaker 6: or two and a half years ago is probably it
- 8:29Speaker 6: would be one hundred and twenty or one hundred and
- 8:30Speaker 6: forty million dollar project now because just the price of construction,
- 8:34Speaker 6: as we're actually seeing with the judicial nacs too, I
- 8:36Speaker 6: mean the cost per square foot is way up. So
- 8:40Speaker 6: that that was a difficult part of it. You know,
- 8:43Speaker 6: the economic development reports didn't come back as we had hoped.
- 8:46Speaker 6: It was saying this is not going to be cost
- 8:48Speaker 6: efficient and you're going to spend most of the money
- 8:51Speaker 6: is going to be generated. Actually most of your cost
- 8:54Speaker 6: will go towards upkeep of the aquatic center, which we've
- 8:58Speaker 6: seen you know, in other locations. But you know, I
- 9:00Speaker 6: kind of knew that going in. That wasn't a surprise.
- 9:03Speaker 6: So we're going to have the basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and gym.
- 9:08Speaker 6: We're going to have rooms so people who can rent
- 9:11Speaker 6: out to have birthday parties. We're going to have a
- 9:13Speaker 6: climbing wall. Those things I feel confident in. There's a
- 9:16Speaker 6: few other things that we may be able to bring
- 9:17Speaker 6: in there that will surprise people, that will generate a lot.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna get back because we had a text here
- 9:22Speaker 4: Ben that somebody asked what happened to the pool that
- 9:25Speaker 4: was the main thing that was going in. For those
- 9:26Speaker 4: who may not have heard your previous interviews, here explain
- 9:29Speaker 4: what happened with Yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 6: So you know, when we I did not think, honestly,
- 9:32Speaker 6: I did not think that acquiring the parking garages was
- 9:35Speaker 6: going to be as difficult as it was. I did
- 9:36Speaker 6: not think that acquiring the Macy's building was going to
- 9:38Speaker 6: be as difficult as it was. We did make offers
- 9:42Speaker 6: to get all of that. It was not well received.
- 9:45Speaker 6: You know, there was one quote I said that the
- 9:49Speaker 6: bondholders were holding us hostage, and that's you know, they
- 9:52Speaker 6: kind of thought they had a gold mine there and
- 9:54Speaker 6: they were going to be able to get what they wanted.
- 9:55Speaker 6: And you can't just roll over and you know, pay
- 9:58Speaker 6: way too much for property.
- 10:00Speaker 7: You just can't.
- 10:01Speaker 6: So I mean that's that's basically what happened. We were
- 10:03Speaker 6: unable to acquire all the land that we needed. We
- 10:06Speaker 6: were the cost is way up, you know, we were
- 10:09Speaker 6: factoring in about three fifty to three hundred and seventy
- 10:11Speaker 6: five dollars a square foot back then when we were
- 10:13Speaker 6: doing our projections. Now it's substantially higher than that. I'm
- 10:16Speaker 6: anxious to see what it actually comes back at when
- 10:18Speaker 6: we put it out to bid. But although that's come
- 10:21Speaker 6: down a little bit, but you gotta keep in mind,
- 10:22Speaker 6: there was so many federal there was so much federal
- 10:24Speaker 6: money out there. Contractors could pick and choose what they wanted.
- 10:28Speaker 6: They could pick the easier projects with the higher rate
- 10:31Speaker 6: on their return their investment. They could go in and
- 10:34Speaker 6: you know, essentially charge whatever they wanted, and that would
- 10:38Speaker 6: have driven the cost of the aquatic Center and the
- 10:40Speaker 6: sports complex, you know, to the point where it was
- 10:43Speaker 6: not affordable. You know, we just couldn't couldn't do it.
- 10:46Speaker 6: So that's why we had to kind of scale back
- 10:49Speaker 6: on that.
- 10:49Speaker 7: Now.
- 10:49Speaker 6: I'm not saying it's never going to happen, but at
- 10:52Speaker 6: least on Phase A, it cannot happen.
- 10:55Speaker 4: What's going on out at Shanae's Sports Complex.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Yeah, so we're making a lot of the headway there.
- 11:00Speaker 6: We are adding on to the building. It's going to
- 11:02Speaker 6: be about three to four times larger the entrance building,
- 11:07Speaker 6: and that's going to help with a lot of different
- 11:08Speaker 6: things that it will help with tournaments, it'll help with staff.
- 11:12Speaker 6: We have actually some space for the staff. We're going
- 11:15Speaker 6: to be able to bring people in through the front
- 11:18Speaker 6: of the building. It'll almost look like a Major League
- 11:22Speaker 6: Baseball type entrance. And that was paid for about eighty
- 11:27Speaker 6: percent of with state and federal dollars. You know, Senator
- 11:29Speaker 6: Mansion came through and got us three million dollars federal money.
- 11:33Speaker 6: Governor Justice, which we truly appreciate, was able to get
- 11:36Speaker 6: us a million dollars to fund this project. So, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 6: it's nice, it was needed. You know, it's not a
- 11:42Speaker 6: surprise that other communities are watching what we're doing. They're watching,
- 11:46Speaker 6: you know, the money, the economic impact that Shawnee's having,
- 11:49Speaker 6: and they're building their own now.
- 11:51Speaker 7: And so we are.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Even though we were kind of the at least in
- 11:54Speaker 6: West Virginia, we were the trendsetter. Now there are other
- 11:58Speaker 6: municipalities and counties that are saying, hey, you know, Shawnee's
- 12:01Speaker 6: brought in one hundred and fifty million dollars in six years,
- 12:04Speaker 6: we need to do that here in that That's exactly right,
- 12:07Speaker 6: and so if you're kind of paying attention to what's
- 12:09Speaker 6: going on around us, our neighbors are saying, hey, we
- 12:12Speaker 6: want some of that action, and we've got to step
- 12:15Speaker 6: up our game. Quite frankly, I want to make sure
- 12:17Speaker 6: that you know, we're able to continue to attract the
- 12:19Speaker 6: biggest tournaments in the Eastern United States, that people have
- 12:23Speaker 6: the experience that we have to have to have them
- 12:27Speaker 6: have in order to come back, right, I want them
- 12:29Speaker 6: to come in. I want them to have a welcoming experience.
- 12:32Speaker 6: We've upgraded security there, We've done a lot, and it's
- 12:36Speaker 6: cause of the economic impact that Shawnee brings in. You know,
- 12:39Speaker 6: we've had that studied. It wasn't my study. I didn't
- 12:41Speaker 6: go out there and try to calculate numbers. I'm not
- 12:43Speaker 6: good at math. But other people have and they've talked
- 12:46Speaker 6: about how much money that generates. I think that and
- 12:49Speaker 6: the Capital Sports Center, you know, you're looking at, you know,
- 12:52Speaker 6: hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact
- 12:55Speaker 6: over the next few years.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Before we close. I did have a text here a
- 12:58Speaker 4: follow up since the textual, why was the whole.
- 13:00Speaker 6: Group who owns the mall being so difficult to work
- 13:02Speaker 6: with no. Actually they weren't. At least with us. Mister
- 13:06Speaker 6: Hall and I have had very good.
- 13:07Speaker 4: To the City of Charleston may have something different to
- 13:09Speaker 4: say about that, well.
- 13:10Speaker 6: So, but at least with the Capital Sports Center. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 6: I don't know what's going on with the other stuff,
- 13:14Speaker 6: and I know there's litigation or whatever, but I haven't
- 13:16Speaker 6: even honestly, I haven't looked at that. I mister Hall
- 13:20Speaker 6: wants the sports Center. I mean from the very first
- 13:23Speaker 6: time that he and I chatted about it, he thought
- 13:26Speaker 6: it was a great idea. Obviously, you know, the more
- 13:29Speaker 6: foot traffic there, that equals more foot traffic into the mall,
- 13:33Speaker 6: but which.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Desperately needs it because another entity within the town center
- 13:38Speaker 4: closed a couple of weeks.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Ago, right, I saw that, and I hate that. But
- 13:41Speaker 6: and let me go back to the very first speech
- 13:43Speaker 6: I ever gave about this project. The Capitol Sports Center
- 13:48Speaker 6: isn't designed to save the mall. You know, the Capital
- 13:51Speaker 6: Sports Center is designed to bring first of all, give
- 13:53Speaker 6: families a place to play, place to go, place to
- 13:57Speaker 6: work out. But it's to help with downtown on traffic.
- 14:00Speaker 6: You know that you want the hotels and the restaurants, uh,
- 14:04Speaker 6: people coming in and quite frankly, when we have major
- 14:06Speaker 6: tournaments at Shawnee, it's not just people staying in Charleston
- 14:10Speaker 6: or staying in Dunbar. I mean, they're staying within a
- 14:12Speaker 6: two hour radius here. And so that's kind of what
- 14:14Speaker 6: we're going to see here. It's going to help all
- 14:16Speaker 6: of Kanawk County. It's going to be a big impact
- 14:18Speaker 6: to the state of West Virginia.
- 14:20Speaker 8: Uh.
- 14:20Speaker 6: And that was the that's the purpose behind it. I
- 14:22Speaker 6: think it will probably have two to three times more
- 14:25Speaker 6: economic impact than the Shawnee.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Sports comp We've got to work on a name though,
- 14:28Speaker 4: because use Capital Sports Center.
- 14:30Speaker 7: There's too many of them.
- 14:31Speaker 4: We're calling that the generic term you know what. I
- 14:34Speaker 4: want to call it Selango City.
- 14:36Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, no, we're definitely my name will
- 14:39Speaker 6: not be attached probably yeah. No, I don't want my
- 14:42Speaker 6: name anywhere near. But the I think, you know, we've
- 14:45Speaker 6: got marketing people studying that, and I think that they'll
- 14:48Speaker 6: come up with a good name, something that's unique.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Uh.
- 14:51Speaker 6: And honestly, at least right now, it's all about Google.
- 14:54Speaker 6: And when you put in Capital Sports Center, uh, there's
- 14:57Speaker 6: there are other ones, and I'd hate for a family
- 14:59Speaker 6: to google Capital Sports Center, show up for a tournament
- 15:01Speaker 6: and they're four hours away.
- 15:02Speaker 4: From not not that one. We ended up in Harrisburg,
- 15:06Speaker 4: Pennsylvania or something. So you're you're a note to Selango City.
- 15:11Speaker 7: Note to Selango City. Absolutely hard, no on that one, all.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Right, gott a Commissioner Bins Selango. I appreciate you being here.

- 18:47Speaker 12: What's up? Good morning, how are you fantastic? How are you?
- 18:50Speaker 4: It's kind of funny because I had Selango. I'm sorry,
- 18:52Speaker 4: Commissioner Selango. I've known been a little week. I just
- 18:54Speaker 4: kind of called him Silango. But when Selango I told
- 18:58Speaker 4: him you were coming in, the first thing he said,
- 19:00Speaker 4: is he bringing food?
- 19:02Speaker 8: Paul?
- 19:02Speaker 4: How many times does that happen that you take your
- 19:05Speaker 4: car in for service, or you go to your local
- 19:08Speaker 4: hardware store and somebody says, did you bring food? You
- 19:11Speaker 4: don't carry food with you? Cheff.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I do not carry food with me. But I you know,
- 19:15Speaker 5: maybe I should start because it's about ninety five percent
- 19:17Speaker 5: of the time.
- 19:19Speaker 4: All right, So what have we got going on? What
- 19:21Speaker 4: are you guys promoting here?
- 19:22Speaker 8: Well, I'm going this is about cheft podcast.
- 19:25Speaker 4: This is exciting.
- 19:26Speaker 8: I mean, this has been a little while in the making.
- 19:27Speaker 8: We've been talking and it's this great program called Prep
- 19:31Speaker 8: to Serve Appalacha that Governor Justice Commerce Department Secretary James
- 19:36Speaker 8: Bailey just joined in and helped us. So we're excited.
- 19:40Speaker 5: What we want so we take recovering at it or
- 19:44Speaker 5: whatever out of whatever program they're part of, whether it's
- 19:49Speaker 5: health rights programs, and then we will give them skills
- 19:55Speaker 5: in the kitchen. So this isn't fine dining training. This
- 20:00Speaker 5: is number one to give them the confidence to get
- 20:03Speaker 5: back in the workforce and to give them the skill
- 20:07Speaker 5: set to step into a kitchen at an entry level,
- 20:11Speaker 5: depending on what skill set they had before. You know,
- 20:13Speaker 5: like myself, I mean I needed a second chance, and
- 20:16Speaker 5: a lot of people do. So this is really a
- 20:19Speaker 5: second chance to get out of whatever recovery program they're in,
- 20:24Speaker 5: after being vetted from their program director such as Angie
- 20:28Speaker 5: or Brandy or or Larry or whoever they're with.
- 20:31Speaker 12: And then we talk about front of the house.
- 20:35Speaker 5: We talk about back of the house, we talk about
- 20:37Speaker 5: kitchen lingo, we talk about carrying your.
- 20:41Speaker 4: In front of the house and back of that. That's right,
- 20:42Speaker 4: that's right, exactly explain.
- 20:45Speaker 5: So in front of the house is the service staff.
- 20:47Speaker 5: So front of the house is the front facing people,
- 20:50Speaker 5: the servers, the bartenders, the food runners. Back of the house,
- 20:55Speaker 5: or like I like to call the heart of the
- 20:56Speaker 5: house is the kitchen kitchen staff, and they're there are
- 21:00Speaker 5: so many different things that you can do in the
- 21:02Speaker 5: kitchen from you know, a porter or a dishwasher, all
- 21:06Speaker 5: the way up to the chef. So this is going
- 21:08Speaker 5: to be that bridge to get people back into the workforce,
- 21:14Speaker 5: give them the confidence that they are probably lacking from
- 21:17Speaker 5: whatever program they're coming out of, to get into the kitchen,
- 21:21Speaker 5: whether it's you know, a hey, this is a knife,
- 21:25Speaker 5: this is an onion, This is how you slice and
- 21:27Speaker 5: dice and onion, all the way up to probably you know,
- 21:31Speaker 5: mother sauces, so you know whatever the five different mother
- 21:34Speaker 5: sauces that we will do techniques. I'm not going to
- 21:37Speaker 5: hand them recipes and we follow recipes. We're going to
- 21:40Speaker 5: talk about basic kitchen.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Concept, something that they could take cheff anywhere, whether they're
- 21:46Speaker 4: working at I mean absolutely, whether they're working at when
- 21:49Speaker 4: these are a five star restaurant.
- 21:51Speaker 5: And most importantly, it's giving them a second or third chance.
- 21:56Speaker 8: Well, and it's not just only people in recover, I
- 21:58Speaker 8: mean other people are welcome. People that are really, you know,
- 22:01Speaker 8: wanting to get a foot in the door with a
- 22:04Speaker 8: good job. And what's great about it is it's a
- 22:06Speaker 8: three month program, so one month intensive twice a week
- 22:10Speaker 8: in the teaching kitchens at West Virginia Health right wonderful
- 22:14Speaker 8: Chef Paul and some of his staff teaching people. And
- 22:16Speaker 8: then month two and month three is on the job.
- 22:19Speaker 8: It's on the job, so unlike a lot of places
- 22:21Speaker 8: where you might have to devote a year, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 8: to culinary school. No, don't get me wrong, they're gonna
- 22:25Speaker 8: come out chefs, but this is like within three months
- 22:28Speaker 8: people out ready they can get you know, higher wage,
- 22:31Speaker 8: high tip kind of jobs. And who else but Chef Paul.
- 22:35Speaker 8: I mean, amazing chef timing on this was perfect. It
- 22:38Speaker 8: was when we were planning this after he won that award,
- 22:40Speaker 8: I was like, well, you still take my call, Chef
- 22:43Speaker 8: Pall and luckily he did, so we're just really excited.
- 22:46Speaker 8: It kicks off from the Uptober.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Eighth, yeah, next week, so you know, both of their kitchens.
- 22:53Speaker 5: You know, we're going to start it out on the
- 22:54Speaker 5: East End. We have done some events there, whether when
- 22:59Speaker 5: we've done something together. It has been getting you know,
- 23:02Speaker 5: people in that maybe are in food deserts, or just
- 23:05Speaker 5: don't know how to cook for themselves, or maybe need
- 23:08Speaker 5: to know how to cook a little healthier. This is
- 23:10Speaker 5: for people that want to take that step into the industry.
- 23:14Speaker 4: And you know, probably better than anybody because not only
- 23:18Speaker 4: with your restaurants but your friends in the community. Right now,
- 23:21Speaker 4: there are jobs that are needed out there. I mean
- 23:24Speaker 4: there absolutely are.
- 23:25Speaker 5: You know you're looking at probably i'd say thirty five
- 23:29Speaker 5: percent of the workers in the hospitality field did not
- 23:34Speaker 5: return to the hospitality field after COVID. You know, it
- 23:38Speaker 5: is a tough it's a tough career path. I mean,
- 23:41Speaker 5: we work while everybody else plays. But the good thing
- 23:44Speaker 5: is like health care, yeah, exactly when the good thing
- 23:48Speaker 5: is you know, there is always work. I could literally
- 23:52Speaker 5: throw a dart at the globe and wherever it lands.
- 23:57Speaker 5: If you have that skill set, if you can cookook,
- 24:00Speaker 5: or if you hone your skills as a serving professional,
- 24:04Speaker 5: you can go anywhere in the world.
- 24:05Speaker 4: It's been said to me that if you are a
- 24:08Speaker 4: you have these type skills that you're talking about, especially,
- 24:10Speaker 4: as you said, with such a large percentage of food
- 24:13Speaker 4: care food workers that decided not to go back to
- 24:15Speaker 4: work or doing something else, you know, whatever they're doing.
- 24:18Speaker 4: If you've got those skills, you can pretty much find
- 24:20Speaker 4: a job anywhere and you have your choice chef of jobs.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Absolutely, and it is a it's an employees market right now,
- 24:28Speaker 5: and we also are going to make sure so when
- 24:30Speaker 5: they come out, so they'll do a month training two
- 24:33Speaker 5: days a week, three or four hours a day. We
- 24:36Speaker 5: will go through basic you know, kitchen and serving skills,
- 24:40Speaker 5: and then we have a stable of restaurants and hotels
- 24:45Speaker 5: and other places that are that are already signed up
- 24:48Speaker 5: to take them for the next two months, so they
- 24:51Speaker 5: will go in. They will be basically a training wage.
- 24:54Speaker 5: You know, it's minimum wage to ten dollars an hour,
- 24:56Speaker 5: which isn't doesn't seem great, but you're also learning a skill,
- 25:00Speaker 5: right and then once they finished that two months, so
- 25:03Speaker 5: it's three months all together, they will hopefully stay on
- 25:08Speaker 5: and so we're basically creating the market. So we have
- 25:11Speaker 5: ten to twelve students per class, and you know, for
- 25:17Speaker 5: me this is important. You know, everybody the number one
- 25:22Speaker 5: question besides did I bring food with me? Is are
- 25:25Speaker 5: you going to stay in West Virginia? And absolutely, I'm
- 25:28Speaker 5: staying in West Virginia. This is why I moved home.
- 25:31Speaker 5: And you know, to do things like this, to give
- 25:34Speaker 5: back to the community, to give a chance or a
- 25:37Speaker 5: second or a third chance when we've all needed those
- 25:40Speaker 5: throughout our lives is an honor for me to do.
- 25:44Speaker 5: I'm super excited that, you know, we we got it funded,
- 25:49Speaker 5: that it was it was a great idea, and you
- 25:51Speaker 5: know we've been talking about this for gosh years that
- 25:55Speaker 5: it's been needed, even because Angie really helped and Health
- 25:59Speaker 5: Right really helped the restaurant industry probably more than anybody
- 26:03Speaker 5: during COVID, anytime I had a worry, anytime I needed hey,
- 26:08Speaker 5: I need somebody tested on my chef because I opened
- 26:11Speaker 5: my restaurants in the middle of COVID, so we did
- 26:13Speaker 5: not have the luxury or the.
- 26:16Speaker 12: Chance to shut down.
- 26:18Speaker 5: So Angie would bring in people on Sundays on Monday mornings,
- 26:22Speaker 5: on you know, five o'clock in the morning. Hey, we've
- 26:25Speaker 5: got a nurse there. Go down, they'll get you hooked up.
- 26:28Speaker 5: We'll make sure you're safe. We'll make sure you're safe
- 26:29Speaker 5: for the community. And so this is me not only
- 26:33Speaker 5: giving back to her and to Health Right, but also
- 26:36Speaker 5: to the community.
- 26:38Speaker 4: But Dave Aley's showing five any Life brought to you
- 26:40Speaker 4: apart by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can cause
- 26:43Speaker 4: a variety of health issues, allergies, respiratory problems and whatnot.
- 26:47Speaker 4: Pinnacle offers specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial
- 26:51Speaker 4: and industrial type settings vis A Pinnacle Court dot net.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Because what you don't know can't hurt you. Let's talk
- 26:56Speaker 4: about what people need to do. They're listening to this
- 26:58Speaker 4: right now, Angie or Chef. They're listening right now and
- 27:00Speaker 4: they're saying, Okay, I got this is me. I want
- 27:04Speaker 4: to get this training. What do they need to do?
- 27:06Speaker 8: So you can always go to www dot WV health
- 27:10Speaker 8: rate dot org. But if you google rep to Serve Appalachia,
- 27:14Speaker 8: which I love the name, it'll come up. You'll see
- 27:17Speaker 8: everything about it. And you know we do that. You
- 27:20Speaker 8: to make sure that you qualify. We want people to
- 27:22Speaker 8: make sure that they're committed and you know they're in
- 27:24Speaker 8: sir seeking jobs and they're gonna they're.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Going to talk about qualifications.
- 27:28Speaker 8: That's basically it. We want people that you know, are
- 27:32Speaker 8: I want people that are, you know, not struggling, but
- 27:35Speaker 8: people that have a heart. They really want a leg up.
- 27:37Speaker 8: That's what health Rate does. A lot of the people
- 27:39Speaker 8: were pulling from our patient base, specific love for people
- 27:44Speaker 8: in recovery that have done the work to get back
- 27:47Speaker 8: out there and they're just looking for that break. And
- 27:51Speaker 8: thankfully with Chef Paul this this, we'll be able to
- 27:53Speaker 8: do that. And of course the funding. We love Baby
- 27:55Speaker 8: Dog Governor Palmerce Spartman. You know, you can't do anything
- 27:58Speaker 8: without the money and that. I'm just really elated that
- 28:02Speaker 8: they saw this vision. And of course it doesn't hurt
- 28:05Speaker 8: to have this guy involved over here.
- 28:07Speaker 5: You know, it's like wow, when I see Baby Dog,
- 28:13Speaker 5: I always have chicken nuggs.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Yeah, of course you well, you know Ryan and I
- 28:16Speaker 4: like chicken nuggets to well.
- 28:17Speaker 8: Just so okay, mental note, very very excited.
- 28:22Speaker 12: We're very excited about this. This is going to be great.
- 28:25Speaker 5: And you know the good part about this is not
- 28:28Speaker 5: only is it training with skills, but it's also job placement.
- 28:34Speaker 5: And you know, in our industry, gosh, if I had
- 28:36Speaker 5: a dollar for every time I had a restaurant call
- 28:39Speaker 5: me and say hey, I need to cook, I need
- 28:41Speaker 5: a dishwasher, I need a server, I could literally not work.
- 28:44Speaker 12: So this is needed on both sides.
- 28:46Speaker 8: Well, and I need to mention the part that we
- 28:48Speaker 8: did other than the kitchen, and they're going to get
- 28:49Speaker 8: all the important wrap around services from health right at
- 28:53Speaker 8: least for a year, but ongoing. I mean, we don't
- 28:56Speaker 8: want people to miss work because they have a cold
- 28:58Speaker 8: and you know, they got to go to ear or something.
- 28:59Speaker 8: We don't want people to have to miss work because
- 29:01Speaker 8: they ran out there in Haler, So a lot of
- 29:03Speaker 8: that stop gap stuff if they call us or whatever
- 29:06Speaker 8: we need to do to try to keep people working.
- 29:08Speaker 8: You know, there's a lot of people we talked about
- 29:10Speaker 8: this last time that need you know, a lot of
- 29:13Speaker 8: expensive maths to be able to continue working. And we
- 29:15Speaker 8: don't want to demotivate people to get jobs so that
- 29:18Speaker 8: they have to qualify for Medicaid. So we're there to
- 29:21Speaker 8: help fill the gaps with all these free meds and
- 29:23Speaker 8: free healthcare that people need and you know don't that
- 29:26Speaker 8: often lack when they're in the food service industry because
- 29:29Speaker 8: of the lack of insurance. So we're there to do
- 29:31Speaker 8: that part as well. Well.
- 29:32Speaker 4: I want to throw this out there too, and this
- 29:33Speaker 4: is I think not necessarily related to what we're talking about,
- 29:36Speaker 4: but there's another big event that you're going to be
- 29:37Speaker 4: a part of Shift Paul I understand over at the
- 29:40Speaker 4: ball Toyota Center on October fifteenth. It's benefit for Habitat
- 29:44Speaker 4: for Humanity. I've been a little poster posted on my
- 29:46Speaker 4: social media. Abauck that do you want to touch on
- 29:48Speaker 4: that momentary?
- 29:49Speaker 12: Yeah, so they focused.
- 29:50Speaker 5: So Habitat obviously is another organization that is close to
- 29:54Speaker 5: my heart, and we're going to do a kind of
- 29:58Speaker 5: a night James Beard Night. We'll do some action stations.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Looking forward to it. It's going to be absolutely wonderful.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Actually going on to talk about that today as well.
- 30:09Speaker 5: So you know, this is the beautiful thing of our community,
- 30:14Speaker 5: is the support that everybody gives.
- 30:16Speaker 12: To our community.
- 30:18Speaker 5: I mean from last week it was the Covenant House
- 30:21Speaker 5: and the Chef Challenge, and then this week coming you know,
- 30:24Speaker 5: we're starting the prep to serve and then you know,
- 30:27Speaker 5: with all of these things, it's it's amazing.
- 30:31Speaker 12: I really enjoy it.
- 30:32Speaker 5: I'll also add to to go back to the skills
- 30:36Speaker 5: that people need. We're also everyone that comes out is
- 30:39Speaker 5: going to have to pass their food Handler's card. They're
- 30:42Speaker 5: also going to get help filling out their applications and
- 30:46Speaker 5: also building a resume. So that's part of it to
- 30:49Speaker 5: where they can get out there and then maybe you know,
- 30:53Speaker 5: you know, I will also say that we will make
- 30:57Speaker 5: sure that they are placed at a job and then
- 31:00Speaker 5: they'll be able to come and do things with me
- 31:03Speaker 5: like the habitat event. I mean, that's going to be
- 31:05Speaker 5: a super fun event. I love the big area of
- 31:09Speaker 5: the ball Toyota. It's really inviting. It's a new venue.
- 31:13Speaker 5: I'm super excited to be a part of that as well.
- 31:15Speaker 4: And you got this network of people, and I've seen
- 31:17Speaker 4: it with the restaurants here in Charleston. And I'm not
- 31:19Speaker 4: going to say everybody necessarily gets along, but you and
- 31:22Speaker 4: the other restaurant owners downtown Charleston and the surrounding areas,
- 31:25Speaker 4: you do have a very good network of people that
- 31:28Speaker 4: you cause you said that you that you can call upon,
- 31:30Speaker 4: and so I think it's very important. And and I'm
- 31:33Speaker 4: sure they all were. They're cheering you on when you
- 31:35Speaker 4: want to.
- 31:35Speaker 5: You know, that was the best part of that award
- 31:39Speaker 5: is you know, we had six or seven chefs that
- 31:42Speaker 5: came and did the watch party, and they took tom
- 31:45Speaker 5: out of their day to be a part of this.
- 31:47Speaker 5: You know, we all subscribe to this rising tide, all
- 31:50Speaker 5: of us working together to raise each other's boat. So
- 31:54Speaker 5: I mean people like you know PG don at Sam's,
- 31:56Speaker 5: I mean, he does such great work for the community.
- 32:00Speaker 5: You know, we talk about DT Prime, we talk about
- 32:04Speaker 5: Dino over at Adelphia. You know obviously my partners at
- 32:09Speaker 5: Ellen's sohos, you know you name it Black Sheep, I
- 32:13Speaker 5: mean Kevin and Morgan Morrison, I mean every This is
- 32:17Speaker 5: such a great fraternity to be a part of, and
- 32:20Speaker 5: everybody supports each other. And it doesn't matter if you're
- 32:24Speaker 5: in Huntington, if you're in Charleston, if you're in Elkins.
- 32:28Speaker 5: You know, West Virginia. Now I think with you know,
- 32:32Speaker 5: tourism being at the forefront, and you know, Secretary of
- 32:35Speaker 5: Ruby and Governor Justice really putting their money where their
- 32:39Speaker 5: mouth is and really giving us the support that they
- 32:42Speaker 5: need in the budget.
- 32:43Speaker 12: It is absolutely fantastic.
- 32:45Speaker 4: But we close, Angel, Let's go back to you give

- 37:06Speaker 4: I'm doing fa First of all, Saturday, Saturday Saturday, you
- 37:11Speaker 4: were down at my alma mater, marsh University, watching them
- 37:14Speaker 4: take on Western Michigan. While Shockley and I were having
- 37:18Speaker 4: to work over at October West on the West Side.
- 37:20Speaker 4: You were living it up down there in the Jones.
- 37:22Speaker 15: So I was workinging a few backet, trying to stay.
- 37:26Speaker 4: There, pounding a few back. Let me just say this,
- 37:30Speaker 4: I want to give a big shout out to a.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Rick Cavanan Charleston Urban Works, because that's where I was
- 37:35Speaker 4: along with Shockley. I mentioned A G. Money, Woody Woods,
- 37:39Speaker 4: rob reeal Chapel, Steve and Jenny, we were all down there. Honestly, Steve,
- 37:42Speaker 4: you couldn't have gotten another person on the West Side
- 37:46Speaker 4: on Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. I mean, it was fantastic,
- 37:51Speaker 4: it was, and we didn't we didn't have the rain
- 37:54Speaker 4: issues that you had at the Marshall game, but just
- 37:57Speaker 4: a couple of rain drops here there. The music, everything
- 37:59Speaker 4: was fanatic. It was a great event. So hats off
- 38:02Speaker 4: to he's probably sleeping right now after that event. That
- 38:04Speaker 4: hats off to Rick Cabanar and the folks there. All right,
- 38:07Speaker 4: So you said you wanted to come on the show
- 38:09Speaker 4: to get something off your mind. So before you get
- 38:11Speaker 4: us both fired, all right, let's talk about some things
- 38:14Speaker 4: that are going on that you're involved in the community.
- 38:16Speaker 4: I know that you've got to scare View. You're a
- 38:18Speaker 4: big part of that out in St. Albans.
- 38:20Speaker 15: It is it fired up this past weekend. For the
- 38:24Speaker 15: next one, two, three, four weekends, I guess it is
- 38:26Speaker 15: maybe five.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Just take it through Thanksgiving. Those guys don't care.
- 38:30Speaker 15: Yeah, through the end of October. Scare View Elementary, the
- 38:34Speaker 15: old Fairview Elementary off High Street and Saint Albans opens
- 38:38Speaker 15: its doors up every Friday and Saturday night. It's a
- 38:40Speaker 15: great time. It's for a great cause. It also raises
- 38:42Speaker 15: money for the West Side Volunteer Fire Department and twelve
- 38:46Speaker 15: bucks gets you through the door. Ten dollars gets you
- 38:48Speaker 15: in with a non perishable food item. So we'll have
- 38:52Speaker 15: some tickets. Maybe I can get you into.
- 38:54Speaker 4: So well, there you go.
- 38:56Speaker 15: You should join me.
- 38:57Speaker 4: I'll be there one night and you and I are
- 38:58Speaker 4: both going to be in Saint Albans on Saturday afternoon
- 39:00Speaker 4: for the fall y'all fall y'all, y'all, that's where you
- 39:04Speaker 4: and I will be Saturday afternoon.
- 39:05Speaker 15: Absolutely. The annual fall Y'all Chili Cookoff proceeds go to
- 39:10Speaker 15: benefit the Saint Albans Canine Unit, along this year with
- 39:14Speaker 15: breast cancer awareness, so donation's going that way too. It's
- 39:18Speaker 15: a fun day, starts at twelve, runs till seven o'clock,
- 39:21Speaker 15: live music on the street, hot chili, cold beer, and
- 39:24Speaker 15: of course all sorts of arts and crafts, and it's
- 39:27Speaker 15: gonna be a good day.
- 39:28Speaker 4: And see you asked me a couple of weeks Agot
- 39:30Speaker 4: come into my office and he said, hey, would you
- 39:32Speaker 4: like to judge at chili? I said, yes, where is it?
- 39:34Speaker 4: I don't care, no hesitation, I'll be there, all right.
- 39:37Speaker 4: So that's a Saturday. I'll talk about that a little
- 39:39Speaker 4: bit more later on the week. Yeah, you said to
- 39:41Speaker 4: me though, you said you were complaining about something the
- 39:44Speaker 4: other day. And again, don't get us both fired, because
- 39:46Speaker 4: I like this job. But you said I got something
- 39:49Speaker 4: on my mind I want to talk about. So I said,
- 39:51Speaker 4: all right, Steve, I'm gonna give you the opportunity, so
- 39:52Speaker 4: go ahead.
- 39:53Speaker 15: Fair enough, thank you. Well, it's you know, there are
- 39:55Speaker 15: things that push you to the edge. You know, it's
- 39:58Speaker 15: like once, okay, twice, and then last week, so the
- 40:03Speaker 15: Division of Highways has what they call a rolling roadblock
- 40:06Speaker 15: kind of thing going on. So it just kind of
- 40:08Speaker 15: magically appears and traffic gets backed up while they try
- 40:13Speaker 15: to do some I don't know if it's emergency repair
- 40:16Speaker 15: or planned repair. It looks like it's almost planned that
- 40:19Speaker 15: they just don't want to tell you about. So last week,
- 40:23Speaker 15: headed eastbound into Charleston Montros. You know, everybody's fine, You're
- 40:29Speaker 15: at sixty miles per hour. They get on at Montros
- 40:32Speaker 15: with you know, they've got some flashing lights, but you're
- 40:34Speaker 15: not really sure what they're doing because there's no turn
- 40:36Speaker 15: signals saying hey, we're coming over into this lane. They're
- 40:39Speaker 15: just coming. So I had to slam on the brakes,
- 40:43Speaker 15: Like if I have to slam on the brakes. There's
- 40:45Speaker 15: a problem with that whole concept of a rolling roadblock
- 40:50Speaker 15: where you just come sliding over without any consideration for
- 40:53Speaker 15: what's behind you. You're just coming, and I understand it,
- 40:57Speaker 15: but you know, it's like, at the same point, do
- 41:00Speaker 15: we have the need for this, because it's not really
- 41:02Speaker 15: a safe way to do the repairs that are needed.
- 41:06Speaker 15: You know what happens if I decided to accidentally my
- 41:09Speaker 15: car didn't stop. You know, it was wet, you know,
- 41:12Speaker 15: you know, it just it didn't seem like it was
- 41:15Speaker 15: really well executed. And if this is how they have
- 41:17Speaker 15: to do it, then maybe they need to start a
- 41:20Speaker 15: few miles back, get on at a corkl or get
- 41:22Speaker 15: on at Dunbar, and get to the point where they
- 41:25Speaker 15: can safely take all lanes and slow people down. But
- 41:29Speaker 15: I mean, obviously they're doing this because there's a constant issue.
- 41:32Speaker 15: I don't know if it's you know, inferior asphalt we
- 41:35Speaker 15: buy infarior concrete, lower grade are we getting I know,
- 41:39Speaker 15: temperature wise, we can get away with having a lower
- 41:43Speaker 15: consistency of whatever the chemical. I'm not a scientist. I
- 41:45Speaker 15: don't do this stuff, but we.
- 41:47Speaker 4: See, but you have done a lot of chemicals.
- 41:49Speaker 15: Yes, However, it seems to be an awful lot of repairs.
- 41:54Speaker 15: So I don't know if it's you know, overweight vehicles
- 41:57Speaker 15: or is it actually the substance that we were actually
- 41:59Speaker 15: using for our roads that you know, you go further
- 42:03Speaker 15: up north, whether it's New England, Boston, Detroit. You know,
- 42:07Speaker 15: obviously with the free zones, they the consistency of the
- 42:11Speaker 15: product has to withstand certain temperatures. I don't know if
- 42:15Speaker 15: because we're further south that there is some leeway in
- 42:18Speaker 15: that equation. But you know, the constant repairs, especially the
- 42:23Speaker 15: rolling repairs, I think they're dangerous.
- 42:25Speaker 4: You did a Facebook post last week there was a
- 42:27Speaker 4: little bit more animated. That's what led to all this.
- 42:31Speaker 4: You went on an absolute rant on Zuckerberg's medium last week.
- 42:36Speaker 15: I did because it just it just was poorly done.
- 42:39Speaker 10: You know.
- 42:39Speaker 4: It's like, you know, you know, we're going to get
- 42:41Speaker 4: ten thousand complaints now from highway workers.
- 42:43Speaker 15: Right, Well, it's not necessarily against them. They shouldn't be
- 42:46Speaker 15: putting this kind of danger to see and try to
- 42:49Speaker 15: do this acrobatic car driving move that. You know, Hey,
- 42:52Speaker 15: we're kind of just cut traffic off. Watch this and
- 42:55Speaker 15: let's see what happens. Bad bad idea, really a bad idea.
- 42:59Speaker 15: I mean it's you know, you just don't do that
- 43:02Speaker 15: to people, and there should be some notification.
- 43:04Speaker 12: You know.
- 43:04Speaker 15: It's like, this wasn't Hey, Bobby, I want to grab
- 43:07Speaker 15: some coffee and patch a roach. Sure, let's go out
- 43:10Speaker 15: and mess up traffic for the day. No, that's not nice,
- 43:14Speaker 15: you know, it's like I had a place to be,
- 43:16Speaker 15: I was late, actually had to call on my phone.
- 43:19Speaker 15: Well I'm crawling at eight miles per.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Hour, so what So what would you say though, if
- 43:25Speaker 4: because I know they're listing the governmental offices right now,
- 43:29Speaker 4: So what would your plea to them be better planning?
- 43:32Speaker 15: A better planning? I mean, there's a way to notify
- 43:35Speaker 15: the public that you know, we do have some rolling
- 43:38Speaker 15: outage or blockages coming up. It would have been nice
- 43:41Speaker 15: to have known that before heading into Charleston. I could
- 43:45Speaker 15: have taken mccorcyl instead of being in that mess that
- 43:48Speaker 15: was created. But I just don't think there's enough foresight
- 43:52Speaker 15: or planning on this. And maybe it is an emergency repair,
- 43:56Speaker 15: but you know, it's like block the lane further out
- 44:00Speaker 15: what we need.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Governor Steve Animal.
- 44:02Speaker 15: Oh, ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to announce my candidacy.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think anybody needs ads, So all right,
- 44:09Speaker 4: give me a quick recap of what's going on our
- 44:11Speaker 4: cistertation nine eight seven Mountain Wild a wonderful classic rock.
- 44:14Speaker 4: You're sending somebody to Miami.
- 44:15Speaker 15: Yes, we're sending two mountaineers down to Miami, which includes airfare,
- 44:19Speaker 15: you don't have to walk, hotel, accommodations, a nice sale,
- 44:24Speaker 15: cruising event, cocktail party kind of thing going on, and
- 44:28Speaker 15: you'll have lots of sunshine. We didn't want to send
- 44:30Speaker 15: anybody last week, of course.
- 44:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Somebody commented on the social media of the Mountain about that.
- 44:34Speaker 4: They said, not this week, this will be. When when
- 44:36Speaker 4: will it be? We'll give it away on the eighteenth, okay,
- 44:39Speaker 4: but when will the actual trip be?
- 44:41Speaker 15: Thank you pretty much?
- 44:42Speaker 4: You schedule when you well, that would be in January.
- 44:45Speaker 4: That's when I definitely would want to go. And how
- 44:47Speaker 4: do they qualify for this?
- 44:48Speaker 15: I'd just be listening weekday mornings anywhere from six to ten.
- 44:52Speaker 15: I will take the fourth color through or you can

- 48:56Speaker 4: his ties with Russia. I'm not making this up. It's
- 49:00Speaker 4: a rather bizarre statement. I'll let Delicate Acres explain it

- 49:07Speaker 4: that came out from the State Democratic Party. All turned
- 49:09Speaker 4: it over to mister Acre. Delegate Acre's coming up tomorrow

- 49:24Speaker 4: I'm not so sure how I can be expected to
- 49:26Speaker 4: get through a show today. I learned late last night
- 49:28Speaker 4: of the death of the iconic Chris Christofferson. Just no,
- 49:31Speaker 4: I'm not okay this morning.
- 49:33Speaker 10: All right.
- 49:33Speaker 4: Christofferson is one of my all time favorites. Look at
- 49:35Speaker 4: I mean, look at the songs this guy wrote me
- 49:37Speaker 4: and Bobby McGee he wrote it. Most people associate with
- 49:40Speaker 4: Janis Joplin, But that's a Christofferson song. Help me make
- 49:43Speaker 4: it through the night for the good times? Why me? Lord?
- 49:45Speaker 4: So many great songs, And of course he can also
- 49:47Speaker 4: form The Highwaymen in nineteen eighty five with Willie, Johnny
- 49:51Speaker 4: Cash and my favorite Whalon Jennings. Think about this. Cash
- 49:54Speaker 4: is gone, Whalan is gone, and now Chris is gone.
- 49:57Speaker 4: Willie is the only one left. Willan Nelson will probably
- 50:01Speaker 4: outlive us all. The Special Session, as I alluded to earlier,
- 50:06Speaker 4: is about to be under way. Of course, we are
- 50:08Speaker 4: covering it on the Governor's Call is a bill calling
- 50:11Speaker 4: up for up to five percent of a cut in
- 50:14Speaker 4: personal income tax rates. Jeff Jenkins has got a story
- 50:17Speaker 4: posted about it at wv metronews dot com, and as
- 50:20Speaker 4: Jeff's story points out, the bill is expected to be
- 50:22Speaker 4: introduced without any agreement on the table with lawmakers and editors.
- 50:29Speaker 4: Note if you'd like to read the governor's entire call,
- 50:31Speaker 4: it is contained as part of Jeff's story at wv
- 50:34Speaker 4: metronews dot com. The bill to create a childcare text
- 50:37Speaker 4: credit is on the agenda. In all, the governor proposing
- 50:41Speaker 4: twenty seven bills. Twenty one of them are supplemental funding
- 50:44Speaker 4: bills from the surplus funds for a total of around
- 50:46Speaker 4: four hundred and sixty four million dollars. There are water
- 50:50Speaker 4: and sewage projects, PIA, rural hospitals, nurses training program e ands,
- 50:55Speaker 4: fire etc. Etc. Again, read about it in jeff'storywv metronews
- 50:58Speaker 4: dot com, and of course Brad is on over it
- 51:00Speaker 4: as well on the Twitter machine and online as well.
- 51:03Speaker 4: We're going to see how all this goes because the
- 51:06Speaker 4: legislative body as a whole is not exactly enamored with
- 51:11Speaker 4: anything the governor wants at this point. And I have
- 51:14Speaker 4: had some conversations here and there with a few legislators
- 51:19Speaker 4: few few that are supporting what the governor wants to
- 51:22Speaker 4: do tax wise, but the majority, it seems, both Republican
- 51:26Speaker 4: and Democrats are saying it's it's a no go, and
- 51:32Speaker 4: they're holding firm, you know, on that. So we're going
- 51:35Speaker 4: to see what happens again, it's underway. Brad mclhannon and
- 51:38Speaker 4: Jeff Jenkins's entire news team are keeping close eyes on its.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Speaking of the governor, he is holding firm that he
- 51:45Speaker 4: will not debate his Democratic component for US Senate Glenn Elliott.
- 51:49Speaker 4: He doesn't feel he needs to. Well, just me speaking here,
- 51:55Speaker 4: I think the public has has a right of us
- 51:58Speaker 4: the vote. Public has a right to know what you
- 52:00Speaker 4: stand for and how you stack up against your opponent.
- 52:02Speaker 4: That's just my thought. And I still don't know what
- 52:05Speaker 4: the status of a proposed debate in the governor's race
- 52:09Speaker 4: between Republican nominee Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and the Democrat
- 52:12Speaker 4: nominee Huntington mayor Steve Williams. Has to say, don't know
- 52:16Speaker 4: where that's going to go. They agreed upon it, then
- 52:18Speaker 4: not so much. So we'll see where I would say
- 52:21Speaker 4: this that one's got a much better chance of happening
- 52:24Speaker 4: than what an Elliot V Justice debate has. All right,
