Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / The Inner Being Determines the Formations of the Outer Existence
Transcript
- 0:01We tend to work from the outer to the inner consciousness.
- 0:05We treat the external world as more real and dominant to
- 0:08determine our physical body, our vital nature, and our mental
- 0:13development. There is, of course, a certain
- 0:16amount of truth to this view, in as much as the outer and the
- 0:20inner are two sides of the same reality, inextricably
- 0:24intertwined and acting upon one another.
- 0:29What we tend to get wrong, however, is a failure to see
- 0:32that the gross forms of the external world are not the
- 0:35primary causal reality, but a result of subtler and more
- 0:40powerful levels of consciousness.
- 0:44We are beginning to understand that the physical matter we
- 0:47observe is actually energy. We are beginning to appreciate
- 0:51that energy is actually a formation of consciousness.
- 0:56If we understand the implied sense of this view of reality,
- 1:00we can begin to understand that the external forms we create,
- 1:05the outer actions we undertake, are the result of an inner
- 1:10reality and express our inner attitude.
- 1:15As the seeker becomes more conscious, the power of this
- 1:18realization becomes more obvious to him.
- 1:22The more closely he aligns with his inner reality, with the soul
- 1:26or psychic being, around which his outer personality and being
- 1:30has been formed, the more precise the outer work, the
- 1:35outer expression, the outer formation will be.
- 1:39To the extent that the physical being, the vital being or the
- 1:44mental being intervenes and provides its own view and
- 1:48interpretation, the psychic being's expression will be
- 1:52diluted or distorted, Sri Aurobindo notes quote.
- 1:59Everything depends on the inner condition and the outward action
- 2:03is only useful as a means and a help for expressing or
- 2:07confirming the inner condition and making it dynamic and
- 2:11effective. If you do or say a thing with
- 2:14the psychic uppermost or with the right inner touch, it will
- 2:19be effective. If you do or say the same thing
- 2:24out of the mind or the vital, or with the wrong or mixed
- 2:27atmosphere, it may be quite ineffective.
- 2:31To do the right thing in the right way in each case and at
- 2:36each moment, one must be in the right consciousness.
- 2:41It can't be done by following a fixed mental rule.
