- 1:39Speaker 2: most of the time I have my authors here in
- 1:42Speaker 2: the studio with me, but I had the opportunity to
- 1:46Speaker 2: work with a very special circumstance. I'll let that person
- 1:52Speaker 2: explain that circumstance to you. But I have had the
- 1:56Speaker 2: opportunity to work with an author from his manuscript, his work,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and now we're at the completing stage of getting the
- 2:06Speaker 2: book published.
- 2:08Speaker 3: So remember I told you, guys, there's a little circumstance
- 2:11Speaker 3: in this.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna bring my guests up and they're going
- 2:14Speaker 2: to tell you a little bit about their circumstance. My
- 2:17Speaker 2: guest's name is mister le Kendrick Northern, So come on up,
- 2:22Speaker 2: tell everyone hello. I know all right, so you guys
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna let him tell us a little bit about ourself. So,
- 2:34Speaker 2: mister Norton, can you tell us about yourself?
- 2:38Speaker 4: Well, of course just playing the name. I was born
- 2:42Speaker 4: in walktal Montgomery, Alabama the way much help and so
- 2:47Speaker 4: I raised me. I'm paying you there for uh I'm
- 2:52Speaker 4: pretty much raised family. So yeah, jar Man, I just
- 2:57Speaker 4: to repair your prayer. You typical for a jump black
- 3:01Speaker 4: man to the product of environment. But you know at
- 3:04Speaker 4: a time where you know, a jump black man can
- 3:08Speaker 4: make a transition involve someone better. So you know what
- 3:11Speaker 4: I'm going about you so so h so that's pretty
- 3:15Speaker 4: much you.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So if you can tell everyone the circumstance and then
- 3:23Speaker 2: we can go into how that an authorship has impact
- 3:29Speaker 2: your life.
- 3:30Speaker 3: So the circumstance that you have is.
- 3:34Speaker 4: So my third days, pal inconcentrate, uh soon jump prow
- 3:39Speaker 4: just thinking on my lidy for that. And you know
- 3:43Speaker 4: that the time that's like I say, of the time,
- 3:45Speaker 4: like the transitions a purer But you know, the situation
- 3:48Speaker 4: said to happen that was going to be in the
- 3:50Speaker 4: front of my environment I'm saying, and it had slowed
- 3:53Speaker 4: me down, like you know what I'm saying, and anybodyable
- 3:57Speaker 4: lessons and things like that dealing with this subject kind
- 4:01Speaker 4: of reading. You know what I'm saying. In my era's
- 4:05Speaker 4: mostly in the streets and on social media and stuff
- 4:07Speaker 4: like that. We'll get these people and so travel to
- 4:11Speaker 4: play you know, an a situations. You know what I'm saying.
- 4:15Speaker 4: If I was trying to read, because need you know
- 4:19Speaker 4: social media read on social media, that's where it was.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And I bought tell you all right, So the circumstance
- 4:26Speaker 2: that is the reason for us our headline tonight is
- 4:29Speaker 2: authors behind the Walls. So the Kendrick, can you tell
- 4:34Speaker 2: us a little bit about how becoming an author has
- 4:43Speaker 2: impacted you in your journey of where you are and
- 4:46Speaker 2: where you're going to be because I know and my understanding,
- 4:49Speaker 2: this is not going to be your only book, this
- 4:52Speaker 2: is now starting, this is your career. So tell us
- 4:56Speaker 2: how becoming an author has affected you in any type
- 5:01Speaker 2: of way.
- 5:04Speaker 4: First of all, you know, everyone had and they certain
- 5:08Speaker 4: thing they want to do in life, you know what
- 5:09Speaker 4: I'm saying, And presually being Austin wasn't my thing that
- 5:13Speaker 4: I want to do at first, But like I say,
- 5:16Speaker 4: coming down, never been reading in the world and stuff
- 5:19Speaker 4: like that, and I came down and read my first book,
- 5:23Speaker 4: and then I said the book to the night I
- 5:24Speaker 4: got in through the reading, so I came across the
- 5:28Speaker 4: book with a guy moved off to across rating. He's, uh,
- 5:32Speaker 4: we know today, you know, and uh, you know. So
- 5:36Speaker 4: I read a day and I'm looking at this story
- 5:40Speaker 4: and I'm like, man, we're late. We see them there
- 5:43Speaker 4: in the industrys ucross rating, you know, doing the same
- 5:46Speaker 4: things and stuff of that nature. And in my mind,
- 5:49Speaker 4: I tell you if he could do it. So my
- 5:51Speaker 4: mind wasn't known like being the best author of the
- 5:54Speaker 4: job said that. My mind was on, Hey, I get
- 5:56Speaker 4: this money, up raised me a lot to get out
- 5:58Speaker 4: the penitention, you know what I'm saying, because I feel
- 6:01Speaker 4: like that didn't take a change. So that was my
- 6:03Speaker 4: main objective, and into when I got into another thing
- 6:08Speaker 4: that you know, the way people reacted to my work
- 6:14Speaker 4: and maybe you're like, you know that. I mean, took
- 6:18Speaker 4: a bit more buses saying it no one move went
- 6:22Speaker 4: to another one more went to another indent. Is I
- 6:25Speaker 4: got any anything that I can read?
- 6:30Speaker 2: So my understand is that you also have created or
- 6:34Speaker 2: in the process of creating your own publishing company.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Can you tell me a little bit about that.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Well, just of course I like said about that, uh
- 6:44Speaker 4: firs of my post governor woman that I'm working on
- 6:47Speaker 4: standout for and the behind it is holding mine and
- 6:53Speaker 4: the reason I got there is like no to hold
- 6:57Speaker 4: hold to one, how is to keep them? So I
- 7:00Speaker 4: want to with the knowledge, uh story, the storyline, you know,
- 7:08Speaker 4: the character and things makes because you know, over time
- 7:11Speaker 4: it's been a stigma and a stereous type of fact,
- 7:14Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And I want to break
- 7:15Speaker 4: the type of a couple of coaching company and not
- 7:19Speaker 4: frank diversity between the face, but frank diversity being the
- 7:23Speaker 4: genre I'm saying because I want to be like the
- 7:26Speaker 4: first author that came. So I'm saying it can in
- 7:29Speaker 4: the same household we got Chris. You've got people different ages,
- 7:33Speaker 4: different genres that they want to you know, read different genres.
- 7:36Speaker 4: They can reheard nonfiction, children book, Patsies right on it.
- 7:41Speaker 4: So I'm not I'm not playing for myself in the box,
- 7:45Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So I'm pretty much like
- 7:48Speaker 4: being diverse always run up the glove. So I want
- 7:51Speaker 4: to pick up people along the way that can be
- 7:53Speaker 4: the same way too.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Now that is interesting. I know a lot of authors
- 7:57Speaker 2: are starting to reach outside of the box. And the
- 8:00Speaker 2: reason why they're doing that because they want to not
- 8:02Speaker 2: be placed that they are an urban book author or
- 8:06Speaker 2: they're a poetry author. They will start out in their
- 8:09Speaker 2: genre and then start to brainsch off. So I see
- 8:12Speaker 2: a lot of authors doing that. How how do you
- 8:18Speaker 2: get your ideas? Where did they come from? Is it
- 8:22Speaker 2: from things that you have done in your past or
- 8:27Speaker 2: other situations have seen?
- 8:28Speaker 3: How do you get ideas for your stories?
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, both of my ideas a couple of experiences. You know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: thinks that nature, things that have seen keep out being around. Uh,
- 8:45Speaker 4: maybe TV shows, movies they sparked idea. It might be somebody,
- 8:51Speaker 4: particularly in the neighborhood that I grew up with. Maybe
- 8:54Speaker 4: an old lady. You know, everybody got a Miss Spurrell
- 8:56Speaker 4: in the neighborhood. Everybody can and got candy. You know,
- 8:59Speaker 4: you could just the characteristic life what people can relate on.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Now, that's good. A lot of authors do that.
- 9:09Speaker 2: They use their they use what they see and what
- 9:14Speaker 2: they've been through and then evolve it to catch that audience.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So I know, you say you don't want to be
- 9:24Speaker 2: placed in the box of a certain genre.
- 9:28Speaker 3: But if you had to choose one genre.
- 9:31Speaker 2: If they were to place you in a box, because
- 9:33Speaker 2: you know, as in library's bookstore and all of these
- 9:37Speaker 2: other entities, they do put it in categories.
- 9:41Speaker 3: What category would you want to be placed in? And why.
- 9:48Speaker 4: You're going to be true? But the main one that
- 9:51Speaker 4: you know, uh, I change is transition as man. It
- 9:57Speaker 4: probably be.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Help okay, self help okay? And why self help.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Because so you know, learning over the year of seeing
- 10:11Speaker 4: different people over to given things. Uh, dealing with mental
- 10:14Speaker 4: health relationships, you know, the division of the black home, Uh,
- 10:20Speaker 4: the divisions of the community, things that nature. I have
- 10:23Speaker 4: a lot to say, dealing with sociology. You know what
- 10:25Speaker 4: I'm saying, kind kinds of things in the mind that
- 10:27Speaker 4: what makes people think is what mad people do that?
- 10:30Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, And uh, I had one
- 10:32Speaker 4: of them. I'm in the props of marine kind of
- 10:34Speaker 4: independent in it more than the value or to buying nations.
- 10:37Speaker 4: You know. So it's like a self help like trying
- 10:40Speaker 4: to bring infected the black community in the black home.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You know, no, pretty much mass like how I was
- 10:47Speaker 4: when we was coming up. We see you know, two
- 10:49Speaker 4: parent homes. You know what I'm saying, because so many
- 10:52Speaker 4: cheers about that. They don't have to not fortunate enough
- 10:57Speaker 4: to have the father and the mother in the same house.
- 10:59Speaker 4: So they did it with certain characters, and he didn't
- 11:03Speaker 4: win that environment. So I want to kind of change
- 11:05Speaker 4: that up. Give people understanding. Why do you think that?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, I can see that. I can see that.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So I know our time is limited. So let's talk
- 11:16Speaker 2: a little bit because I know I'm gonna tell y'all
- 11:20Speaker 2: we got an exclusive.
- 11:21Speaker 3: So on November second, I wouldn't say that's today.
- 11:26Speaker 2: We're gonna have U so Norther come back and he's
- 11:28Speaker 2: gonna tell us about his new novel, Flowers of E.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So can you give us a little bit of what
- 11:40Speaker 3: Flowers of E is about?
- 11:44Speaker 4: Overall? But it is a fly to a little story,
- 11:48Speaker 4: you know, it's it's diffice like everybody's looking for love,
- 11:51Speaker 4: you know, everybody want to be loved and like everybody
- 11:54Speaker 4: want to and he's dealing with two characters are going south.
- 12:00Speaker 4: I think they got a personal thing that happened in
- 12:02Speaker 4: their life that changed the whole life. Like one head.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I guess I better hand a mission you know a
- 12:11Speaker 4: thing relationship that you So I don't want to spoke
- 12:14Speaker 4: to the to the readers that each canter around the
- 12:19Speaker 4: same thing not even knowing each other before they meet
- 12:22Speaker 4: each other anybody, that they'll never find love again. So
- 12:25Speaker 4: that's no one can place to let the other one
- 12:27Speaker 4: the working place to love or the other. So they've
- 12:30Speaker 4: come to a more where they see that you know
- 12:34Speaker 4: other still there.
- 12:36Speaker 3: So on my show we do things like visual aids.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Okay, So I would ask the author if you can
- 12:43Speaker 2: choose a certain person from a certain uh walk of
- 12:48Speaker 2: life to be a certain character in their book, they
- 12:51Speaker 2: would tell me who it is.
- 12:52Speaker 3: So I do know.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You have four main characters. You have two best friends.
- 12:58Speaker 2: One is named Kendrick one the other name is Carlos.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And then you have the two female friends. One is
- 13:06Speaker 2: named Moe and one is name So let's just take
- 13:12Speaker 2: and they I can't tell y'all everything. I was about
- 13:15Speaker 2: to give y'all a little bit, but I can't. I
- 13:17Speaker 2: can't give y'all. Let's just take one of the couple.
- 13:21Speaker 2: The two main characters. We have Kendrick in e so
- 13:27Speaker 2: Kendrick can be.
- 13:32Speaker 3: A nineties rap artist. Who would he be? And why.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Now I've read the book, and I'm gonna tell you
- 13:43Speaker 2: who I think after you tell me who you think
- 13:46Speaker 2: he would be?
- 13:47Speaker 3: And why Kendrick was a nineties rapper? Who would he be?
- 14:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 14:01Speaker 3: Snap, I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking
- 14:05Speaker 3: l O cool J.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And I would say, because Kendrick is very smooth and
- 14:10Speaker 2: he's very business minded. But what would you say he
- 14:14Speaker 2: would Why he would be l O Coojno?
- 14:22Speaker 4: You know the A the same time and AC they're
- 14:25Speaker 4: that person and he might have making a career. So
- 14:29Speaker 4: you know that's what she looked about it. He wants
- 14:31Speaker 4: to look in the street to play the change to
- 14:35Speaker 4: end up having a career.
- 14:37Speaker 3: So all right, so now we have.
- 14:42Speaker 2: If we can give Eve any nineties R and B artist,
- 14:49Speaker 2: who would she be?
- 14:50Speaker 3: Oh that one's hard.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Going to be artist? Yes, m M, I'll say I'll
- 14:59Speaker 4: say Ji.
- 15:01Speaker 3: You would say Mary J Blige? Why Mary J Blige? Mary?
- 15:10Speaker 4: She expressed and uh with my book, you know he
- 15:14Speaker 4: through a lot of pain. Not playing with about that. No, No,
- 15:23Speaker 4: I compared him like that.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I would say Chante Moore.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And the reason why I said Chantey Moore is because
- 15:33Speaker 2: she's smart, she's educated, she's beautiful. She's been through some pain,
- 15:40Speaker 2: but she still she doesn't have that rough edge like
- 15:44Speaker 2: Mary Jay.
- 15:45Speaker 3: But when I when I vision Eve, I.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Vision her poise or as they say, bougie, That's what
- 15:55Speaker 2: I got. Yeah, okay, okay, So we're gonna, you know,
- 16:03Speaker 2: gonna let you go on about two three minutes. But
- 16:07Speaker 2: before we let you go, please, what would you like
- 16:11Speaker 2: to say to anyone out there? If you could say
- 16:14Speaker 2: anything to anyone, what would it be?
- 16:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I would like to say, know that no circumstances,
- 16:23Speaker 4: you know, getting away, so let no barrier come between
- 16:26Speaker 4: you had the mindset to do something. No, I'm going
- 16:30Speaker 4: behind it. If that's what you can't do. And so
- 16:34Speaker 4: many goals and ambitions want set up like I'm here,
- 16:38Speaker 4: you should go far. What I'm saying my film, I'm
- 16:44Speaker 4: trying to break this d of know how Mozarmans they're o.
- 16:49Speaker 4: They'll be like change the names just to see if
- 16:51Speaker 4: they can bring into another general I'm saying, change the name,
- 16:55Speaker 4: and then if it is the real of this. You
- 16:59Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. I want to be here, job
- 17:03Speaker 4: Church book, my Murder vision, Esponage, my love story. You know,
- 17:09Speaker 4: hey man, it's a good story and we don't have
- 17:11Speaker 4: to worry about so I want to Hey, everybody know
- 17:18Speaker 4: anything that sure in that box that uh stereo type
- 17:23Speaker 4: that s yeah, you can break out of that.
- 17:28Speaker 3: All right, Well, we thank you for joining us.
- 17:31Speaker 2: When I see book Gus and Friends and two weeks
- 17:34Speaker 2: we'll have you back and we'll be talking about Flowers
- 17:36Speaker 2: of Eve and we'll be talking about Kendrick and Carlos
- 17:40Speaker 2: and Mo and Eve and y'all. All I can say is,
- 17:45Speaker 2: y'all don't want to miss this because these characters they
- 17:48Speaker 2: get on my nerves sometimes. But well, we'll talk about
- 17:51Speaker 2: wat again in our nerves.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Okay. But thank you mister Kendrick for being with us tonight.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Okay, thank you for I'm no.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Problem.
- 18:05Speaker 2: But you guys, guess what Next week, Saturday, I'm going
- 18:08Speaker 2: to have mister Kent Osborne and he's gonna talk to
- 18:12Speaker 2: us about his.

- 18:16Speaker 2: I want to thank you guys for joining us tonight,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and we will so we'll see you next week on
