Latest / Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly / Banana Fish Ep. 23- For Whom the Bell Tolls
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person. I guess Michelle. Probably I'm back, right,
- 0:07Speaker 1: because that's what this means that I exist still, and
- 0:12Speaker 1: if you're hearing it, it probably also means that you
- 0:14Speaker 1: still exist. But I don't really know how death works,
- 0:18Speaker 1: so maybe you were listening even though you are dead.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I don't know. You will have to tell me if
- 0:24Speaker 1: you know. Please. Anyway, before we start, I wanted to
- 0:29Speaker 1: make a correction. Last week I told you that there
- 0:34Speaker 1: was no Peer four in Manhattan, that it was in Brooklyn.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So I went back and I was reading that section
- 0:42Speaker 1: of the manga. Because I'm not reading the manga super
- 0:46Speaker 1: in tandem with the anime this time. I'm reading back
- 0:49Speaker 1: through the manga. I'm kind of far behind, so I'm
- 0:53Speaker 1: not always sure if the things that they're saying in
- 0:57Speaker 1: the anime are exactly the same as the manga. Anyway,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and to check the manga to see if they mentioned
- 1:02Speaker 1: a different pier because Akimi Yoshda is really really good
- 1:06Speaker 1: at being accurate about New York stuff for some reason,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and it was also Peer four, So then I was like, Okay,
- 1:12Speaker 1: maybe I'm stupid, and I looked into it again and
- 1:16Speaker 1: realized that yes, there is a Peer four in Manhattan.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It's on the Lower East Side by where the fish
- 1:24Speaker 1: Market used to be, so yeah, I'm sorry I messed
- 1:30Speaker 1: that up. And that means the other pier that I
- 1:31Speaker 1: said that probably didn't exist also probably existed, so yay.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It's just I guess that Pier four in Brooklyn is
- 1:39Speaker 1: like a park and this pier is just like a
- 1:41Speaker 1: chipping pier, so it doesn't really have an online presence.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I guess. I did find an old image of the
- 1:47Speaker 1: pier with a warehouse on it, so there you go,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I guess. But yeah, I just wanted to tell you
- 1:53Speaker 1: that because I felt real bad. I know you're thinking, like, oh, yeah,
- 1:57Speaker 1: she's so good with with locations, She's like making up
- 2:00Speaker 1: hotels and shit. It's like, no, that is the anime.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I just hit the spot in the Mango again where
- 2:08Speaker 1: that's senator who is gonna run for president, like gets
- 2:11Speaker 1: stabbed I guess by his secretary or whatever, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and like Dino and everyone's like, yay, we did it
- 2:18Speaker 1: with Banana Fis And I found out that the hotel
- 2:21Speaker 1: that he was actually supposed to be in when he
- 2:23Speaker 1: was stabbed was the Carlisle, which is a real place
- 2:26Speaker 1: and has been for a long time, and in the manga,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I see it actually drawn here. I'm looking at the
- 2:30Speaker 1: page right now, and the place where Dino had his
- 2:34Speaker 1: party was not the car Lisle, but it was the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Waldorf Astoria Hotel, which is also a real place. So
- 2:42Speaker 1: anytime you see a thing in the anime and you're like,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's not real. Yeah, I don't know
- 2:47Speaker 1: what they were thinking why they change the places, especially
- 2:50Speaker 1: when you have a place like one of the two
- 2:52Speaker 1: hotels that I just mentioned, they're so like famous, you
- 2:56Speaker 1: could absolutely use this. It's a landmark kind of So
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't know why that happens in the anime, but
- 3:03Speaker 1: it does except for places like the National Mental Health Institute,
- 3:06Speaker 1: because obviously that's not a real thing. So I just
- 3:10Speaker 1: wanted to point out something because I didn't say it
- 3:12Speaker 1: last week, and it's kind of important in case you
- 3:16Speaker 1: don't know, Sionata does not just mean goodbye in Japanese.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I mean, it's not a casual goodbye. It is a
- 3:23Speaker 1: final goodbye, something that you say to someone that you
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't think you're ever gonna see again. Like I remember,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I originally looked into this because I was watching mob
- 3:31Speaker 1: Psycho one hundred and a character said sionata to their
- 3:36Speaker 1: husband and it was like this really big deal because
- 3:37Speaker 1: she was like going to divorce him. And I was like,
- 3:40Speaker 1: that's feels so final for just the word goodbye, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: then I realized that it is final. It's like goodbye
- 3:45Speaker 1: forever basically. So what I'm saying is it's not something
- 3:49Speaker 1: you say to someone if you expect to see them again. Also,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I wanted to say that in the manga, the whole
- 3:56Speaker 1: scene where Agy was teaching Sionada and that's when he
- 4:00Speaker 1: got shot, it didn't quite happen like that. We know
- 4:04Speaker 1: that Agy taught him that word from another scene, but
- 4:08Speaker 1: it wasn't framed quite that way. Anyway, I just wanted
- 4:12Speaker 1: to tell you that about Sionata because it's important for
- 4:16Speaker 1: this episode. Yeah, so we should probably get down to
- 4:22Speaker 1: it because I feel like I have a lot to
- 4:24Speaker 1: say about this episode, and I also feel like I
- 4:27Speaker 1: may have to cry a couple of times. So yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 1: sorry anyway. Banana Fish Episode twenty three is of course
- 4:36Speaker 1: what we're doing today, and it's called for Whom the
- 4:40Speaker 1: Bell Tolls, which is based on the title of a
- 4:44Speaker 1: novel by Ernest hemingway that also has nothing to do
- 4:47Speaker 1: with Banana Fish or based on the Metallica song for
- 4:50Speaker 1: Whom the Bell Tolls, which I would prefer because I
- 4:53Speaker 1: like that song, I guess, I mean as much as
- 4:55Speaker 1: I like Metallica songs, which is eh, a little. Anyway,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm sure you remember where we ended last time, which
- 5:03Speaker 1: was that AG had just been shot and also Ash
- 5:06Speaker 1: had been shot too, and Ash killed a couple of guys,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and fucking they called an ambulance and all that shit
- 5:12Speaker 1: is happening, and AG's like, I'm so glad you're okay,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and then he like passes out and it's really really bad.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So we start this episode just a couple minutes later.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We start outside of the warehouse, I guess, in the
- 5:25Speaker 1: kind of darkened street because it's night, of course, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: there's an ambulance parked out front or behind I don't
- 5:31Speaker 1: really know where this is exactly, and it has its
- 5:34Speaker 1: siren on and there's like a small crowd that has
- 5:36Speaker 1: formed around it. We see Ag who is on a
- 5:40Speaker 1: gurney like being wheeled towards the ambulance, and Ash is
- 5:44Speaker 1: walking next to the gurney and he's just saying, like
- 5:47Speaker 1: AG Ag, please open your eyes. And then someone places
- 5:51Speaker 1: a hand on Ash's shoulder and we see that it
- 5:55Speaker 1: is Blanca, and he says, stand back. Ash gasps and stops.
- 6:01Speaker 1: He did not expect to see Blanca, so he says Blanca,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and Blanca is like, you can't go. You should know better.
- 6:08Speaker 1: AG is being loaded into the ambulance now, and Ash
- 6:11Speaker 1: is like shut up. He tries to keep walking, but
- 6:14Speaker 1: Blanca grabs him and pulls him back, and Ash is
- 6:17Speaker 1: like struggling, and he's like, let me go, let go,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and Blanca like chops him in the back of the
- 6:22Speaker 1: neck and just knocks him out, sing gasps, and everyone
- 6:27Speaker 1: else is just like what the fuck just happened. We
- 6:31Speaker 1: cut back to the inside of the warehouse in one
- 6:33Speaker 1: of those like really dirty rooms where Ash is passed
- 6:38Speaker 1: out on the bed and Blanca is placing a bandage
- 6:41Speaker 1: on his stomach. And it looks like Blanca's got like
- 6:44Speaker 1: a makeshift ivy stand like as a coat hanger. He's
- 6:48Speaker 1: got like an ivy bag of I guess, I don't know,
- 6:51Speaker 1: like saline or whatever on that, and I guess it's
- 6:53Speaker 1: stripping into Ash's arm, So I guess it makes sense
- 6:56Speaker 1: that he would have some kind of medical training considering
- 6:58Speaker 1: his background. Anyway, he's not alone in the room with Ash.
- 7:01Speaker 1: There's a crowd of the gang members kind of behind him,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and he turns to them and he says he should
- 7:07Speaker 1: be fine. Everyone kind of lets out a sigh of relief,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and then we see Ash grimace and he opens his
- 7:14Speaker 1: eyes and then he gasps and just shoots up. Blanca
- 7:17Speaker 1: puts his hand on Ash's shoulder and says, don't move, Ash,
- 7:21Speaker 1: just like let me go. He reaches into Blanca's jacket
- 7:25Speaker 1: and he grabs his gun and turns it on Blanca
- 7:28Speaker 1: move out of the way. Blanca stands and Alex is
- 7:32Speaker 1: like Ash. Blanca puts his arm out to prevent Alex
- 7:37Speaker 1: from interfering, and he says, stand back. Could we have
- 7:40Speaker 1: some privacy? And then we go to the opening theme.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeay back from the opening, we see Shunichi sitting on
- 7:48Speaker 1: a bench in like a hallway and he's kind of
- 7:51Speaker 1: like bent over and he says, I've been so stupid.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I should have kept him closer. Jessica and Charlie are
- 7:58Speaker 1: also there, I guess, and Jessica says Ash was shot too.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Charlie's like, so he really is alive. Before anyone can
- 8:06Speaker 1: say anything else, the doors of the room or whatever
- 8:11Speaker 1: behind them open and these three guys and scrubs wheel
- 8:15Speaker 1: Ag out on a gurney and it seems like he's awake.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Thank god. He also has like a tube going into
- 8:20Speaker 1: his nose. I'm pretty sure. At this point, Shounichi and
- 8:23Speaker 1: Jessica rush over to him, and Shunichi's like, eh, shan,
- 8:27Speaker 1: it's me. eBay Agi looks over at him, and he
- 8:30Speaker 1: just looks so exhausted, and he says, eBay shn is
- 8:35Speaker 1: ash okay Oh. Jessica's like, he's fine, but he's being
- 8:40Speaker 1: treated somewhere else. Don't worry. Ag relaxes and closes his eyes.
- 8:46Speaker 1: We cut back to Ash now, who is alone in
- 8:50Speaker 1: the room with Blanca and still pointing Blanca's own gun
- 8:53Speaker 1: at him, and he says, out of my way, or
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'll shoot. Blanca's like, what good would it do for
- 9:00Speaker 1: you to go? You're a wanted criminal, Ash. If they
- 9:03Speaker 1: question your relationship to him, he could end up being
- 9:05Speaker 1: an accomplice. You knew this was gonna happen eventually. Why
- 9:10Speaker 1: did you keep him so close? You couldn't guarantee his safety?
- 9:14Speaker 1: You just wanted him around to escape your solitude. Fuck.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Ash is like, shut up. Blanca continues, he doesn't exist
- 9:25Speaker 1: to be your salvation. Ash's eyes widen. Shut up. He
- 9:30Speaker 1: shoots and like barely misses Blanca's head, and he continues,
- 9:34Speaker 1: shut up, you goddamn bastard. Shut up. He shoots over
- 9:38Speaker 1: and over again, but he's like not really aiming for Blanca,
- 9:42Speaker 1: but he's hitting the wall behind him and close to him,
- 9:44Speaker 1: but like he could hit Blanca if you want to do,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and he's not, and Blanca like doesn't even flinch. We
- 9:51Speaker 1: cut to the hallway where everyone is still kind of
- 9:54Speaker 1: waiting for this conversation to be over, and they are
- 9:56Speaker 1: now ducking from gunfire. Back in the room, Ash has
- 10:01Speaker 1: reopened his wound and blood is just streaming down his
- 10:04Speaker 1: stomach and onto his pants. He stopped firing when he's
- 10:07Speaker 1: breathing really hard and he's still pointing the gun at Blanca,
- 10:14Speaker 1: but then he just totally collapses onto the floor and
- 10:18Speaker 1: he's out. I think I want to stop there for
- 10:21Speaker 1: a second because the scene like really pissed me off
- 10:27Speaker 1: a lot. Like I don't know the amount that Ash
- 10:31Speaker 1: has hurt right now, he obviously blames himself for what
- 10:35Speaker 1: just happened to Ag. He really didn't need Blanca to
- 10:39Speaker 1: also blame him. And yeah, there's no way he can
- 10:41Speaker 1: go to the hospital. Blanc is totally right about that.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It will implicate AG because you can't go to the
- 10:49Speaker 1: hospital with a gun wound and not have the police come.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I don't know about everywhere, but I did check the
- 10:55Speaker 1: laws in New York, and the hospital staff are required
- 10:59Speaker 1: to report guns wounds, so they're coming to see Ag,
- 11:02Speaker 1: which is why Charlie's probably there. I mean he might
- 11:05Speaker 1: come anyway, because Junie, Chie and you know, Max and
- 11:07Speaker 1: everybody are so close with Charlie. But no, the police
- 11:10Speaker 1: get called, so Ash can't go there. And of course
- 11:14Speaker 1: he kind of needs to go to the hospital like
- 11:16Speaker 1: he's been shot too, but he'll be arrested, absolutely, that'll
- 11:21Speaker 1: be it if he goes to the hospital, like that's
- 11:24Speaker 1: its because he's done too much. He's never gonna see
- 11:29Speaker 1: the light of day again basically after this, so he
- 11:31Speaker 1: can't go for his own sake and of course for
- 11:34Speaker 1: AG's sake as well, which sucks, but that's the case.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So it's good that Blanca has stopped him. I guess
- 11:42Speaker 1: I mean, if you care about them more than just
- 11:45Speaker 1: them being together. And Blanca is right sort of, you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: like he does feel less lonely with AG, and he
- 11:54Speaker 1: is a very lonely character, but like the whole like
- 11:58Speaker 1: he doesn't exist to be salvation. Thing sucks because I
- 12:05Speaker 1: do think on some level that Ash feels like he's
- 12:07Speaker 1: using AG and I'm gonna talk more about that, probably
- 12:11Speaker 1: in a couple of episodes when we give to the
- 12:15Speaker 1: angelized Maga. But hearing that must have like really really hurt,
- 12:20Speaker 1: because you don't want your worst fears about yourself to
- 12:23Speaker 1: be actually confirmed. And I don't think he's using AG.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I think if Blanca knew everything, which he doesn't, he
- 12:30Speaker 1: would see that their relationship is actually mutually beneficial to
- 12:35Speaker 1: each other, like mentally at least. But like, yeah, ouch,
- 12:39Speaker 1: fucking ouch. And of course if you didn't get this,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Ashes so profoundly lonely. So yep, that's all I wanted
- 12:48Speaker 1: to say. There will continue, but fuck so anyway, outside
- 12:53Speaker 1: in the hallway, Singh is sitting and like hugging his knees.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It's pretty dark, and he looks up as Blanca walks
- 13:02Speaker 1: out of the room and sing says, I knew you were,
- 13:05Speaker 1: asked his acquaintance. He looks away. Yuiluing planned this, didn't
- 13:09Speaker 1: he Blanc is like, I hope you'll forgive him. He
- 13:13Speaker 1: walks away and Sing says, I wish I could we
- 13:18Speaker 1: go to Sing and Lao, who are standing like on
- 13:21Speaker 1: one of the landings on the stairs, and Sing says,
- 13:25Speaker 1: it's over for ashing us. He'll never forgive anyone who
- 13:28Speaker 1: hurd ag and he killed two of our guys too.
- 13:31Speaker 1: We're traders now. I was like, it's my fault. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: knew what Yu Eiling was up to, and I didn't
- 13:38Speaker 1: do anything. It is your fault. You should have told
- 13:41Speaker 1: singh or anyone really. Sing is looking out the window
- 13:46Speaker 1: and he says, forget it. Just promise me one thing loud,
- 13:52Speaker 1: don't question anything I do from now on. I was like,
- 13:56Speaker 1: what are you planning to do? Sing says, come on,
- 14:00Speaker 1: bing bro, and he looks at him sadly. Let me
- 14:03Speaker 1: handle this. I didn't want to have to fight Ash.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I just thought like, how great it would be if
- 14:09Speaker 1: Shorter was with us. He takes a shaky breath and
- 14:12Speaker 1: a tear runs down his cheek. I wish I'd never
- 14:15Speaker 1: become boss. Back to the hospital. Jessica and Shinci are
- 14:20Speaker 1: looking through kind of like a big observation window type
- 14:23Speaker 1: thing at Ag who is laying in a hospital bed
- 14:27Speaker 1: and he's got like a breathing mask on his face,
- 14:29Speaker 1: and I guess he's asleep. We go back to Ash,
- 14:32Speaker 1: who is asleep, and then his eyes just shoot open
- 14:35Speaker 1: and he gasps. He sits up like abruptly, and he's
- 14:39Speaker 1: breathing really hard, and the room is just dark. He
- 14:43Speaker 1: kind of collects himself and he closes his eyes and
- 14:46Speaker 1: then he kind of makes this incredibly painful, sad sounding exhale. Next,
- 14:53Speaker 1: we see that kind of like big room in the warehouse,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and like all of the gang members are there pretty much,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and everyone's really quiet and somber because this has just
- 15:04Speaker 1: not been good. And they hear a door open and
- 15:07Speaker 1: then they look over and they're all like Ash. Ash
- 15:11Speaker 1: has dressed himself and he looks fairly normal, but like
- 15:16Speaker 1: this is he needs to rest. This is bad. They
- 15:20Speaker 1: run over and they're like happy to see him and stuff,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and Alex is like, you're up already, are you okay?
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah he's not okay. Ash says, yeah, we don't have time.
- 15:32Speaker 1: He walks forward into the room. Let's get down to business.
- 15:37Speaker 1: We cut to one of the Black Sabbath guys who
- 15:39Speaker 1: looks up and he says, Boss Kin, who's standing next
- 15:43Speaker 1: to him, looks over and we see that the Chinatown
- 15:45Speaker 1: guys are entering the room because they weren't there because
- 15:48Speaker 1: everything's been kind of weird. Now ash Now is sitting
- 15:52Speaker 1: on a bench and he's looking just like so crisfallen.
- 15:55Speaker 1: As they approach, Sing gets closer and he's like, two
- 16:00Speaker 1: of my guys betrayed you, and I want to apologize.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Another Black Sabbath guys like it's too late for apologies.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Other people are kind of like talking in the background
- 16:09Speaker 1: too and stuff. Everybody's getting kind of antsy, and Kane
- 16:13Speaker 1: is like, shut up and they stop. Sing continues, I
- 16:17Speaker 1: know words aren't enough. I'm prepared to be punished, but
- 16:20Speaker 1: I still have my responsibilities as a boss. So all
- 16:23Speaker 1: I ask is that you wait until we rescue everyone.
- 16:26Speaker 1: If you're willing to show me any mercy. Sing walks
- 16:30Speaker 1: more directly in front of ash Now. Ash I ask
- 16:34Speaker 1: that you fight me one on one. Lao and Kane
- 16:38Speaker 1: gasp and chatter like kind of erupts all around from
- 16:41Speaker 1: the gang members Ash just kind of stares and Lao says,
- 16:46Speaker 1: are you insane? Sing's like, I told you to shut up.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I want to end all of this. Lao looks panicked
- 16:54Speaker 1: like he's sweating, and he's like, no, you can't. And
- 16:57Speaker 1: then to like kind of everyone, He's like, he he
- 17:00Speaker 1: killed our guys like they were nothing. That's all he
- 17:02Speaker 1: thinks of us, saying grabs Lao by the jacket and
- 17:06Speaker 1: he's like stop it, Lao. Lao continues to him that
- 17:10Speaker 1: Japanese boy is the only human worth anything. Ash at
- 17:14Speaker 1: this point is just sitting there. He looks totally like
- 17:17Speaker 1: out of it and dead, like he's not really paying attention.
- 17:20Speaker 1: He's not flinching at these comments. It's almost like again
- 17:24Speaker 1: like the last episode, like they're treating it like he's
- 17:26Speaker 1: not even in the room, like he's not even a
- 17:28Speaker 1: person anyway. Lao continues, why the fuck can't you see that?
- 17:33Speaker 1: Are you all blind? How could you risk your life
- 17:36Speaker 1: for him? This heartless, cold blooded monster? Oh my god. Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 1: So we cut to Ashity he just looks so upset,
- 17:45Speaker 1: but not pissed off, like ashamed of himself. Up said great,
- 17:49Speaker 1: this is exactly what he needed right now. His friend
- 17:52Speaker 1: is in the hospital, possibly dying because of your fucking gang,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and you're calling him a heartless monster. Fuck off Lao anyway,
- 18:00Speaker 1: Sing just like punches Lao in the face and he's
- 18:05Speaker 1: like saying one more word, and Lao stops him and
- 18:07Speaker 1: he's like, I'm out. Sing says what Lao's like, I
- 18:12Speaker 1: can't accept him, not him? Sorry Sing. He turns and
- 18:15Speaker 1: he walks away. A couple of the Chinatown gang guys
- 18:20Speaker 1: like call after him, and they're like trying to stop him,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and sings like let him go. Lao stops Sing says,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you went Tai. Lao is no longer one of us.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Lao smiles, glad to hear it. He continues to walk out.
- 18:36Speaker 1: There's kind of a pause here for a minute, and
- 18:39Speaker 1: once Lao is out of the room, Sing addresses Ash
- 18:42Speaker 1: again and says, I'm sorry, So what do you say.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Ash finally looks up and is just like okay, Sing
- 18:51Speaker 1: exhales thanks, Ash, I'll cooperate with the liberation plot. I'll
- 18:56Speaker 1: stake my life on it. We cut to Ash sitting
- 19:01Speaker 1: alone in a darkened room, like he's sitting on a
- 19:04Speaker 1: window sill and the room is just illuminated by the
- 19:08Speaker 1: light coming in from the window kind of like in
- 19:10Speaker 1: a long, straight beam and not dispersing for some reason.
- 19:16Speaker 1: It looks really cool, but I don't know if flight
- 19:17Speaker 1: works like that, but I still think it's awesome. Anyway,
- 19:21Speaker 1: He's sitting there looking out the window, and the door
- 19:24Speaker 1: opens and Kane walks in. We cut to a shot
- 19:28Speaker 1: from the other side of the window, pane looking in
- 19:32Speaker 1: as Ash stares out just blankly. The window is like
- 19:35Speaker 1: super dirty, by the way, which I thought was like
- 19:37Speaker 1: a super nice touch, considering like how gross this place is.
- 19:41Speaker 1: We also hear like police sirens in the background and
- 19:44Speaker 1: just normal city noises, and Kane says, why'd you agree
- 19:49Speaker 1: to it? Ashes, like his eyes told me he was
- 19:52Speaker 1: prepared to die. Couldn't really turn him down, Kane says,
- 19:57Speaker 1: so he shows you as his hangman. Fuck, could we
- 20:01Speaker 1: not choose Ash to kill people right now? Like? Please? Anyway?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Ash says he's just doing what he can to save
- 20:08Speaker 1: his guys. Kin's like, aren't you gonna go? Ash has
- 20:15Speaker 1: not turned away from the window, by the way, He's
- 20:16Speaker 1: still looking out and he doesn't say anything. Kine's like,
- 20:20Speaker 1: you know, Aj was shot in the real bad place.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Ash clenches his fists. Don't I don't want to hear
- 20:30Speaker 1: his name. Kine's like, you'll regret it if something happens.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Ash stands really quickly and he says, I would be
- 20:40Speaker 1: there if I could. He kind of surprises himself, like
- 20:43Speaker 1: he didn't realize he was gonna have this reaction, and
- 20:46Speaker 1: he looks down and he kind of like chokes on
- 20:49Speaker 1: his words, and he's just like, but I can't turn
- 20:52Speaker 1: him into a criminal. Cain looks shocked, and he says,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I guess even you fall apart sometimes worry about Lao.
- 21:01Speaker 1: There's just some guys you just can't get along with.
- 21:05Speaker 1: He turns to leave and Ashes like Ash places his
- 21:11Speaker 1: hand on the window pane and he's looking at his
- 21:15Speaker 1: reflection in the broken glass, and he says it's just
- 21:18Speaker 1: that he probably sees it the repulsive monster, the real me.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Oh my god. Ash. Kane's like, stop torturing yourself, Ash,
- 21:31Speaker 1: I believe in you, and he turns to leave again.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Once Kane has gone, Ash grips his chest tightly and
- 21:39Speaker 1: he says, hegi forgive me for not being able to
- 21:42Speaker 1: be by your side. He covers his face with his
- 21:45Speaker 1: hand and he starts to cry, please don't take him
- 21:49Speaker 1: from me, God, Please, he collapses, take me instead. She's ash.
- 21:57Speaker 1: We go to yue Lung, who is staring at some champagne.
- 22:02Speaker 1: He's wearing a robe and he's sitting on a couch
- 22:04Speaker 1: and there's a knock at the door. The door opens
- 22:07Speaker 1: and Blanca's like, excuse me and closes the door behind him.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Ue Lung says, you're back. So I heard he didn't die.
- 22:15Speaker 1: He kind of chuckles and he's like, damn his luck.
- 22:19Speaker 1: He takes a drink. Blanca's like, are you drunk, sir.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Ue Lung says me, you're right, I'm dry as hell,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and he's just like laughing. At this point, Blanca just
- 22:31Speaker 1: takes the glass from ue Lung's hand and he says,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you should stop. Champagne will give you a hangover. He
- 22:37Speaker 1: starts to walk away. Good night. Ue Lung says, didn't
- 22:41Speaker 1: you want to tell me something? Blanca stops, yes, but
- 22:45Speaker 1: it seems like tonight isn't the best time for it.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I that ue Lung stands and says, then why don't
- 22:52Speaker 1: I tell you something instead? Sit? Blanca says, mister yue Lung,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and ue Lung's like, sit, I order you two. Blanca
- 23:02Speaker 1: kind of stares at him for a moment and then
- 23:04Speaker 1: sits in a chair. Yue Lung is now standing with
- 23:06Speaker 1: his arms crossed, not looking at Blanca, and he says,
- 23:10Speaker 1: have you ever been to Hong Kong? Blanka's like a
- 23:13Speaker 1: few times. Yue Lung says, what did you think of it?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Blanka's like, it's a beautiful, mysterious city. Ue Lung says,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's my hometown. We get a image of Hong Kong,
- 23:27Speaker 1: and then we see this old guy like sitting in
- 23:30Speaker 1: a chair with guards around him, and Ue Lung continues,
- 23:33Speaker 1: my father was Lee Hong Lng, the most powerful of
- 23:36Speaker 1: all the overseas Chinese. He controlled all that was light
- 23:40Speaker 1: and dark. We then see a very young, very young,
- 23:45Speaker 1: sad looking girl, and Ue Lung says, but my mother
- 23:49Speaker 1: was a poor street vendor's daughter. She became his mistress
- 23:53Speaker 1: when she was ten. Fuck great. So then we see
- 23:58Speaker 1: Hong Lung pat like his mom on the head, and
- 24:03Speaker 1: of course because she's all really small, and he's like
- 24:05Speaker 1: lean down and pat around the head and stuff, and
- 24:07Speaker 1: it really has a very similar feel in my opinion too.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Some of the stuff we saw in ashes passed in
- 24:13Speaker 1: episode three when he was meeting Golding for the first time,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and it kind of freaked me out a little bit. Anyway,
- 24:20Speaker 1: ue Lung continues, my father was sixty five. Then grotesque,
- 24:24Speaker 1: is it not? Yes, it is. We then see his mom,
- 24:28Speaker 1: who looks older now, like a teenager maybe holding a
- 24:32Speaker 1: small child, and his dad is kind of like doting
- 24:37Speaker 1: over the child, and she does not look happy. She
- 24:40Speaker 1: looks blank, really blank. Yeah, awesome, yue Lung continues. My
- 24:48Speaker 1: mother was acquired by my father. He took good care
- 24:52Speaker 1: of us. He knew I'd probably be his last child,
- 24:56Speaker 1: but he suddenly died when I was six. My brother's
- 25:00Speaker 1: barging in and they raped my mother and they killed her.
- 25:03Speaker 1: We see Uelung watching all of this, and he continues,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I was held back by Hualung's arms as I watched
- 25:10Speaker 1: my mother being eaten by demons. We see his mom
- 25:15Speaker 1: sort of on the ground, I mean, we don't see
- 25:18Speaker 1: much of her. We see like her hair and one
- 25:20Speaker 1: of her hands kind of, and then just the pool
- 25:23Speaker 1: of blood surrounding her, which is yeah. At this point,
- 25:28Speaker 1: Uelung is leaning over Blanca and he says, so what
- 25:31Speaker 1: do you say. Don't I have the right to hatred.
- 25:35Speaker 1: He takes his class back. What about Ash. Blanca's face
- 25:40Speaker 1: falls slightly, Uelon continues, jeered at and trampled on. Didn't
- 25:46Speaker 1: he feel any hatred? Didn't he curse anyone? Uelung's face
- 25:50Speaker 1: is kind of like partially obscured and warped by the
- 25:54Speaker 1: Champagne glass, Like it's over half of his face because
- 25:56Speaker 1: he's holding it up. It's really interesting, he continues, I
- 26:00Speaker 1: can see it. His anger under that cold, beautiful face
- 26:04Speaker 1: is the devil himself. I know it. He drops the
- 26:08Speaker 1: glass and chuckles. It's not fair him trying to save himself.
- 26:14Speaker 1: He should know he can't be saved by such a
- 26:16Speaker 1: frail thing. He smiles, sadly puts his hand on his face.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Blanca stands and tries to kind of touch his hand
- 26:26Speaker 1: to comfort him, and Uie Lung brushes him away and says,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I don't need your sympathy, and he just like runs
- 26:32Speaker 1: out of the room. Geez. We go back to Ash
- 26:36Speaker 1: and the gang and they're standing around a blue prince
- 26:40Speaker 1: that is lying on a table, and Ash says, after
- 26:44Speaker 1: we get in, we'll move in groups. Leaders memorize the
- 26:47Speaker 1: blueprint and all the escape roots. They'll be waiting for
- 26:50Speaker 1: an ambush. Kane's like, we're ready for it. Ash says,
- 26:55Speaker 1: we won't die in vain. We're all coming back alive.
- 26:59Speaker 1: We go back to Blonde, who is in his room.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He's standing at his desk and he's like looking at
- 27:04Speaker 1: some green book and he puts it down and we
- 27:06Speaker 1: hear ue Lung say, where are you going? Blanca looks
- 27:10Speaker 1: over and ue LUNGI is standing in the doorway. Blanca says,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I'd like to ender contract whoa. Ue Lung says, you're
- 27:19Speaker 1: going to Ash, aren't you. Blanca is at this point
- 27:22Speaker 1: putting some things in a suitcase, probably clothes, and says
- 27:27Speaker 1: the odds are against him for real. This time he's
- 27:29Speaker 1: jumping headfirst into a trap with a gunshot wound. Ue
- 27:33Speaker 1: Lung's like, so you're letting your emotions control you. I
- 27:36Speaker 1: didn't know you had it in you. Blanca says, it's
- 27:40Speaker 1: like he once said, I'm tired of playing the role
- 27:43Speaker 1: I've been given. Ui Lung pauses and then he's like,
- 27:47Speaker 1: what if I said no? Blanca says, mister yue Lung,
- 27:52Speaker 1: you learned to hate, but you couldn't learn to love.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I was like that too, but I didn't know hatred either.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I had no motions whatsoever. We're kind of panning down
- 28:04Speaker 1: the interior contents of the suitcase, and in it, besides
- 28:08Speaker 1: clothes is Ernest Hemingway's a farewell to arms, Blanca continues.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I was the government's tool, just as you were the Lees.
- 28:18Speaker 1: We see Blanca in his military type uniform and we
- 28:23Speaker 1: hear him say around the time that I joined Spetsna's
- 28:27Speaker 1: I met my wife Natalia. We cut to him and
- 28:29Speaker 1: Natalia in a field like staring at each other. And
- 28:32Speaker 1: she has short blonde hair, and she looks way too
- 28:37Speaker 1: much like ash. But that's okay. I'm not going to
- 28:40Speaker 1: freak out about that, Blanca continues. But the government strongly
- 28:45Speaker 1: opposed our marriage. Her father had been executed in the
- 28:47Speaker 1: Soviet days as a political criminal. For the first time ever,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I disobeyed the government. She was the first person to
- 28:54Speaker 1: ever teach me human feelings. What I didn't want to
- 28:57Speaker 1: lose her. They are now close together, like right about
- 29:02Speaker 1: to kiss, Blanca continues. One day I was sent on
- 29:06Speaker 1: a mission to crimea. We to a black screen and
- 29:09Speaker 1: then we cut to Natasha or Natalie. I'm so confused
- 29:13Speaker 1: about what her name is laying on the floor like,
- 29:17Speaker 1: surrounded by debris and bleeding in several areas of her body.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And Blanca says, and Natasha was caught in a terrorist
- 29:26Speaker 1: attack and killed a terrorist group in the Middle East.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Took responsibility, but it was just really too peculiar. Uelung's like,
- 29:35Speaker 1: you thought the government did it. Blanca is now looking
- 29:38Speaker 1: out the window, and he says, who can say, No
- 29:41Speaker 1: one knows the truth. He turns around, mister Yuelong, you
- 29:46Speaker 1: must not take a g O komota away from Ash.
- 29:50Speaker 1: That would only make him another one of us. Yue
- 29:55Speaker 1: Lung exhales sharply, and Blanca continues, an unloved, unloved, pathetic
- 30:01Speaker 1: being living only on hatred and emptiness. Uelung size. Blanca says,
- 30:09Speaker 1: he chose to love and die rather than to hate
- 30:12Speaker 1: and rule. You can't be loved unless you love. At
- 30:17Speaker 1: least he knows how to do that. Ue Lung looks
- 30:20Speaker 1: so just destroyed by this, and he says, go and
- 30:25Speaker 1: he turns away, Just go to Ash. Blanc is like,
- 30:30Speaker 1: there will be someone who'll care for you and love you.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Uelung turns back. That'll never happen. Blanca starts to leave.
- 30:39Speaker 1: You just don't realize it. He stops and turns back, Sayonada,
- 30:44Speaker 1: please take care. Okay. I want to talk about this
- 30:49Speaker 1: and how it plays off the other scene with Blanca
- 30:52Speaker 1: and Ash. So first of all, I don't believe that
- 30:56Speaker 1: Blanca didn't have emotions for a second. I don't think
- 30:59Speaker 1: that's how this works. But that's a whole other thing.
- 31:03Speaker 1: And I am very, very scared that Ash looked a
- 31:06Speaker 1: lot like his wife. And I don't get why sometimes
- 31:10Speaker 1: she's called Natalie and sometimes she's called Natasha. I don't
- 31:14Speaker 1: understand that at all. But I guess I'm trying to
- 31:19Speaker 1: think of what I need to say here because I
- 31:21Speaker 1: literally the night before last night, I woke up at
- 31:25Speaker 1: like like six am, so not that early, and I
- 31:28Speaker 1: just started crying about this conversation and about Blanca telling
- 31:35Speaker 1: Ash that he couldn't use AG as his salvation. He
- 31:38Speaker 1: doesn't exist to be a salvation. Basically, I thought it
- 31:41Speaker 1: was an interesting one point eighty from Blanca there talking
- 31:45Speaker 1: about how he can't use this kid, and then saying
- 31:49Speaker 1: like Ash obviously needs AG. He needs to not be
- 31:54Speaker 1: like the two of them, just these kind of unloving,
- 31:58Speaker 1: uncaring monsters. But I wanted to point out that I
- 32:02Speaker 1: think they're a little bit wrong there. I think Blanca
- 32:06Speaker 1: and maybe ue Long see AG as this thing that
- 32:10Speaker 1: changed Ash and like like softened him or something, and
- 32:15Speaker 1: I don't think that's true. I think that he really
- 32:19Speaker 1: needed AG because he really needed someone to just and
- 32:22Speaker 1: I've said this before, like see him like a human
- 32:26Speaker 1: and make him less lonely. But it's not like he
- 32:33Speaker 1: wasn't compassionate before that, you know, like, and I don't
- 32:38Speaker 1: think that if he were to lose AG, he would
- 32:42Speaker 1: be this heartless monster. We just haven't seen that. He's
- 32:48Speaker 1: lost so many people and he's just kind of kept,
- 32:53Speaker 1: you know, caring and shit. I mean he he didn't
- 33:01Speaker 1: have any sort of real relationship with his father or
- 33:05Speaker 1: his mom at all. Fucking Griffin left to go to war,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and of course, when originally this was supposed to happen,
- 33:14Speaker 1: I'm sure he was actually drafted. So it's not like
- 33:16Speaker 1: he really abandoned Ash, but either way feel like being abandoned.
- 33:20Speaker 1: But Ash still went out of his way to find
- 33:25Speaker 1: him and to pull him out of that Va hospital
- 33:28Speaker 1: he was in and try to take care of him,
- 33:29Speaker 1: which might have been ill advised, but was totally caring.
- 33:34Speaker 1: And kind of beyond the means of what a basically
- 33:39Speaker 1: homeless teenager should be doing, because he absolutely cared about him.
- 33:47Speaker 1: What am I trying to say? It's not touched on
- 33:51Speaker 1: in the anime, but in the manga, there's a point
- 33:54Speaker 1: where when Dino and Arthur realized that Ash has a brother,
- 33:59Speaker 1: and Dino is like, so that's why he needed so
- 34:02Speaker 1: much money, Arthur very heavy handedly implies that Ash had
- 34:07Speaker 1: still been having sex with Dino for money. So if
- 34:12Speaker 1: that's true, and we don't know if it is, because
- 34:14Speaker 1: Arthur is just kind of an asshole and he also
- 34:16Speaker 1: might have misunderstood the situation, but if Ash is like still,
- 34:21Speaker 1: you know, prostituting himself to pay for his brother's care,
- 34:25Speaker 1: like what the fuck? But what I'm trying to say
- 34:30Speaker 1: is this is not someone who has ever shown that
- 34:35Speaker 1: he's not compassionate and that he can't love. And then
- 34:42Speaker 1: he lost his brother, he lost Skip, he's lost Shorter,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and he still isn't just this cold, horrible thing. He's
- 34:52Speaker 1: not going to be that way if he loses age, like,
- 34:56Speaker 1: because that's not him. And this whole thing with Ue
- 35:02Speaker 1: Lung talking about Ash as a monster and then talking
- 35:05Speaker 1: about himself as a monster. I think what's really happening
- 35:08Speaker 1: here is and I've touched on this a little bit already,
- 35:11Speaker 1: but Ue Lung he needs to have someone who is
- 35:16Speaker 1: like him. It makes him feel less lonely. The idea
- 35:19Speaker 1: that Ash is someone who's experienced kind of similar trauma
- 35:23Speaker 1: in his life, and if he is like him, that
- 35:27Speaker 1: means that Ue Lung isn't wrong in the actions that
- 35:30Speaker 1: he's taking. I think that the way Ue Lung talks
- 35:33Speaker 1: about himself as a monster is different than the way
- 35:36Speaker 1: that Ash talks about himself as a monster. I think
- 35:38Speaker 1: that Ash, when he says that he's a monster, like
- 35:41Speaker 1: he did just a couple scenes ago, he is talking
- 35:45Speaker 1: about his actions that he's taken have made him into
- 35:51Speaker 1: a monster, kind of which you know makes perfect sense.
- 35:54Speaker 1: But and you're gonna be like, of course, but I
- 35:56Speaker 1: don't think U a Lung means it the same way.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I think U a Lung ease himself as a monster
- 36:02Speaker 1: like that is his nature, right, and that gives him
- 36:05Speaker 1: kind of an excuse for all of the shit he
- 36:07Speaker 1: is doing. And if Ash isn't a monster, then maybe
- 36:13Speaker 1: you alone is just a bad person, and maybe he
- 36:18Speaker 1: just deserves to be alone, and I don't think you
- 36:21Speaker 1: alone can handle that. I hope that made sense. I
- 36:24Speaker 1: think I'm gonna stop there with that, But I think
- 36:28Speaker 1: he is just trying to prove that's deep down at
- 36:32Speaker 1: the very base of Ash is just a monster, so
- 36:36Speaker 1: that they can be similar. Anyway, back to the story,
- 36:40Speaker 1: we go to someone who is breaking open a wooden
- 36:43Speaker 1: crate and there are like guns inside, obviously, so that's
- 36:46Speaker 1: what's in crates in the show. Probably. We see that
- 36:49Speaker 1: a lot of the gang members are kind of right
- 36:51Speaker 1: outside of the warehouse and Sing is like, grab your weapons,
- 36:57Speaker 1: it's time to get going. Everyone's kind of like running
- 36:59Speaker 1: around and getting stuff, and Fly and Ash are kind
- 37:02Speaker 1: of standing back under a street light, just kind of
- 37:04Speaker 1: watching this go down, and Fly says, damn, what's going on.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Ash is like, we're busting in these smirks. A car honks,
- 37:13Speaker 1: and Ash looks over and he sees that Blanca is
- 37:17Speaker 1: leaning on a car across the street. Blanca says hey,
- 37:21Speaker 1: Ash looks surprised, and then we cut to everybody kind
- 37:25Speaker 1: of rushing around again, getting ready to do whatever the
- 37:28Speaker 1: hell they're going to do, and then to Blanca and
- 37:32Speaker 1: Ash who are standing together now with the car, and
- 37:35Speaker 1: Blanca says, you're looking busy. Ash is like, what are
- 37:39Speaker 1: you doing here? Blanca says, want to hire me? Ash
- 37:45Speaker 1: is like what? Blanca continues, I got fired? So how
- 37:50Speaker 1: about fifty million bucks? Ash is just kind of like
- 37:53Speaker 1: slack jawed and he's like, fifty mil are you crazy?
- 37:56Speaker 1: Blanca says, okay, how about five hundred dollars plus dinner.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Ash looks entirely confused, and Blanca continues cost the side,
- 38:07Speaker 1: like really help out it. Ash kind of frowns and
- 38:10Speaker 1: then pouts and then says, I mean I guess we
- 38:13Speaker 1: could use another driver. Blanca's like it's a deal. Then.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So Blanca and Ash are now getting into his car,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and Blanca says, so where too? I assume that there
- 38:23Speaker 1: was something in between that, but I don't really know.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Ash's eyes narrow, and he says the National Mental Health Institute.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Blanca starts the car and says okay, and they speed off.
- 38:36Speaker 1: They're driving and Ash says, this is the wrong way
- 38:40Speaker 1: You're Where are you going? Blanc is like, we got
- 38:43Speaker 1: to make a quick stop first. They pull up to
- 38:46Speaker 1: a corner and Blanca stops the car and says, AG's hospitalized.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Here he's out of the ICU and in the general ward.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Now the cops come around to check at twelve o'clock.
- 38:57Speaker 1: On the dots, Ash looks, I don't know, concerned, I'm
- 39:00Speaker 1: not sure. Blanca holds something out to him, like a
- 39:05Speaker 1: white thing. It's clothing obviously, and says, go, you might
- 39:11Speaker 1: never get a chance to see him again. Ash looks
- 39:16Speaker 1: down and sighs, like I just did. And then we
- 39:20Speaker 1: see him exiting the car wearing like a white kind
- 39:23Speaker 1: of doctor's coat, lab coat thing. Blanca rolls down the
- 39:27Speaker 1: window and says, twelve o'clock. Got it, Cinderella. The magical
- 39:31Speaker 1: fade at twelve. We now see Ash walking down a
- 39:35Speaker 1: dimly little hallway inside the hospital, and it's quiet because
- 39:39Speaker 1: it's eleven something I guess. He reaches a room and
- 39:44Speaker 1: stands there in front of the door, trying to kind
- 39:47Speaker 1: of work up the courage to open it, and him
- 39:51Speaker 1: and Him start playing in the background, and he finally
- 39:55Speaker 1: slowly reaches out and grabs the handle and gently pulls open.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Inside we see that ag is laying in bed. He's
- 40:04Speaker 1: asleep because it's late, and there's a tube in his nose.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Ash walks into the room and over to the bed
- 40:11Speaker 1: and he just stands there quietly. We get a side
- 40:15Speaker 1: shot of Ash. He's kind of like in the left
- 40:17Speaker 1: corner of the screen and there's nothing else except him.
- 40:21Speaker 1: It's really interesting, and his hair is over his eyes,
- 40:24Speaker 1: so we like can't see his emotional states. And he says,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I what have I done? He slowly puts his hands
- 40:36Speaker 1: over his face. He was right, He starts to shake.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I should have known. We cut to a close up
- 40:45Speaker 1: of Ag as he sleeps, and we hear Ash just
- 40:50Speaker 1: sobbing in the background. AG, who maybe isn't completely asleep, thinks,
- 40:57Speaker 1: somebody someone's crying. We see Ash again as he is
- 41:02Speaker 1: leaning over the bed, just kind of holding himself and sobbing,
- 41:07Speaker 1: and AG thinks, what a sad voice. I wonder what
- 41:12Speaker 1: he's so sad about. I know that voice. We kind
- 41:19Speaker 1: of flash to the clock on the wall and see
- 41:22Speaker 1: that it is like eleven fifty eight PM. Kind of
- 41:26Speaker 1: maybe not that good at reading clocks at this point.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Maybe it's been a couple of minutes or something, and
- 41:31Speaker 1: Ashes stopped sobbing, but he's still crying and like a
- 41:35Speaker 1: tear is running down his cheek, and he says Sioonada,
- 41:42Speaker 1: and he turns to leave, and AG thinks, Siada, what
- 41:47Speaker 1: does he mean? Are you going somewhere? His hand kind
- 41:52Speaker 1: of starts to twitch like he's trying to get control
- 41:55Speaker 1: of his body, and he thinks, I have to say something.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Come on, voice, come on, and then he makes a fist.
- 42:05Speaker 1: We go to Ash, who is walking back down the hallway.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Behind him, we can see Ag peek out of the doorway,
- 42:13Speaker 1: kind of struggling to stand, and he says Ash. Ash
- 42:18Speaker 1: stops and he turns and he's surprised to see Age,
- 42:23Speaker 1: who is breathing like really hard and kind of racing
- 42:26Speaker 1: himself against the wall and he looks like he's in pain,
- 42:30Speaker 1: and Ash says Hechi. Ag just kind of pulls himself
- 42:35Speaker 1: along the wall to get closer to Ash and he's
- 42:38Speaker 1: calling out him, and Ash gasps and says, no, don't move,
- 42:43Speaker 1: and he starts to run towards him, which makes more
- 42:45Speaker 1: sense than AG going towards him, and Ag says, Ash,
- 42:49Speaker 1: where are you? And his legs just give out and
- 42:51Speaker 1: he kind of collapses into a sitting position and Ashes
- 42:54Speaker 1: like AG and he like kind of plunges for him
- 42:58Speaker 1: and reaches out and Ag out towards him, and they're
- 43:01Speaker 1: like inches away from a touching, like maybe two inches,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and then they hear running down the hall and we
- 43:09Speaker 1: see that from behind Ag, Charlie and Shunci are approaching
- 43:14Speaker 1: and Charlie says Ash. Ag gasps and he pulls back
- 43:18Speaker 1: his hand and he says, go Ash, you'll get caught.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Ash gasps and he does not want to move, and
- 43:26Speaker 1: Ag says hurry, and then he starts to cry, and
- 43:28Speaker 1: he says go Ash looks shocked and hurt, and he
- 43:34Speaker 1: also starts to cry. He turns and he takes off
- 43:38Speaker 1: running just as Shoonichi and Charlie reach Ag. Shunichi embraces
- 43:42Speaker 1: Ag and he's like a chun. Charlie kind of checks
- 43:46Speaker 1: to make sure Age's okay, but then he starts to
- 43:48Speaker 1: turn to go after Ash, and Agi reaches out and
- 43:51Speaker 1: grabs him by the waist and says, don't go after him,
- 43:55Speaker 1: please let him go, and he just sits on the
- 43:59Speaker 1: floor sobs. We see Kong standing by a door looking
- 44:05Speaker 1: through like a little window. He's in a room, obviously,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and we hear someone say help me. Kong yells at
- 44:13Speaker 1: the door basically, where are you taking him? And he's
- 44:15Speaker 1: like banging on the door like trying to get out,
- 44:18Speaker 1: and then we see Bones like in another room and
- 44:20Speaker 1: he's like stop. And then we cut to two orderlies
- 44:25Speaker 1: who are forcing a young gang member down the hall
- 44:29Speaker 1: and the gang members like let go of me, let go.
- 44:32Speaker 1: And then we see Max in his room sell thing
- 44:37Speaker 1: and he punches the door and he's like really really
- 44:39Speaker 1: roughed up and he just kind of falls to his knees,
- 44:43Speaker 1: like his fist still on the door, and he says,
- 44:46Speaker 1: I can't die now. Fuck. We go to an operating
- 44:50Speaker 1: room and there are some doctors working on someone. We
- 44:52Speaker 1: can't see who they are, but that's probably that gang
- 44:55Speaker 1: member that they were dragging off, so that's great. Dino
- 44:59Speaker 1: and Gregory are watching from like an observation room above
- 45:02Speaker 1: and we hear Fox say what's the surgery about. Dino
- 45:07Speaker 1: looks behind him and says, it doesn't concern you. He
- 45:11Speaker 1: is smoking a cigar. By the way, Fox smirks banana fish.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Dino was about to take a puff from his cigar,
- 45:19Speaker 1: but he stops. Fox continues, truth drugs are pretty convenient,
- 45:24Speaker 1: by the way, there are truth drugs. I wasn't one
- 45:27Speaker 1: hundred percent sure. I'm not gonna get into that, but
- 45:30Speaker 1: they kind of might work or might not work. It
- 45:32Speaker 1: really depends on a lot of factors. And also they
- 45:35Speaker 1: can be dangerous. But you know, we haven't found a
- 45:39Speaker 1: truth serum that is like one hundred percent effective or
- 45:42Speaker 1: works on every situation or anything, but they do kind
- 45:45Speaker 1: of sort of exist anyway. Dino's like, Colonel Fox, this
- 45:49Speaker 1: is a relevant to your job. You have better things
- 45:52Speaker 1: to do than snoop around. He turns to face him,
- 45:55Speaker 1: because he had still been watching the operation. If you
- 45:57Speaker 1: call yourself a professional, that is. Fox is like, of course, monsieur,
- 46:02Speaker 1: I'll make sure that the hostage is tell me where
- 46:04Speaker 1: your son and Dino cuts him off. No need, I've
- 46:07Speaker 1: already taken that to my own hands. He'll come tomorrow
- 46:10Speaker 1: morning at seven am. Fuck. Fox is like, I'm much obliged.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Dino turns back to the window. Don't make me regret
- 46:19Speaker 1: hiring you this time. Fox is like, I'm glad I'll
- 46:23Speaker 1: be able to see your son again. We cut to
- 46:25Speaker 1: a park, which I'm pretty sure a central park. Ash
- 46:28Speaker 1: is laying in the grass. It's night, by the way,
- 46:31Speaker 1: because it's still night. He just ran out of AG's
- 46:35Speaker 1: room crying, so now he's just in the grass, yay,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and Blanca is loading a gun. Ash sits up, but
- 46:44Speaker 1: he's holding his abdomen and he looks like he's in pain.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Blanca says, stay still or you'll start bleeding again. I
- 46:51Speaker 1: guess he started bleeding and they had to stop to
- 46:54Speaker 1: take care of him. Yay. Ash is like, there's no time.
- 46:59Speaker 1: We cut two an image on a phone Ash's phone
- 47:02Speaker 1: of Max strapped to a chair wearing headphones. I don't
- 47:06Speaker 1: know what that's about, and just looking like really really
- 47:09Speaker 1: roughed up. Blanc is like, this is bad. Ash flips
- 47:13Speaker 1: to another picture of four gang members on their knees,
- 47:17Speaker 1: blindfolded with their hands behind their backs and like three
- 47:19Speaker 1: mercenary guys standing over them with guns. Awesome. Blanc is like,
- 47:24Speaker 1: so that's why you're in such a hurry. So what
- 47:26Speaker 1: are you gonna do? We owe to a guy standing
- 47:29Speaker 1: in a room with his arms crossed, like an older
- 47:32Speaker 1: looking man. He's tapping his hand on his arm and
- 47:35Speaker 1: he looks pretty dishoveled. And the door opens and he
- 47:39Speaker 1: looks over and Robert walks in with Jessica and he says,
- 47:42Speaker 1: got it, and the guy's like great, Jessica says email,
- 47:47Speaker 1: goals in and ask him for a comment. Guy says
- 47:50Speaker 1: got it. Jessica throws on her jacket and turns to leave.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Says Robert, I'm borrowing your car. Robert's like, wait, you
- 47:57Speaker 1: don't mean She probably does mean that. Yes. We cut
- 48:02Speaker 1: to Gregory as he throws open a door and says, Papa.
- 48:06Speaker 1: He walks into Dino's bedroom. It's obviously nighttime and Dino
- 48:11Speaker 1: is in bed, and he says, what is it at
- 48:13Speaker 1: this time of night. Gregory hands him a tablet and
- 48:16Speaker 1: says this. Dino looks at it and he starts to
- 48:21Speaker 1: sweat and says, I'll be over in a second. Call
- 48:26Speaker 1: my lawyer. Don't answer the media. Gregory's like, got it.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Dino says, call Fox. We go back to Blanca and
- 48:35Speaker 1: Ash in the park and Blanca says that's quite bold.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Ash just like it's the only thing I could do.
- 48:41Speaker 1: He's looking away and he doesn't seem thrilled about any
- 48:44Speaker 1: of this. He continues, they're gonna kill the hostages, whether
- 48:47Speaker 1: I hand over the data or not. So Jessica and
- 48:50Speaker 1: I came up with this plan. Blanc is like, it's
- 48:53Speaker 1: pretty risky. We go to Dino in Fox in some room,
- 48:58Speaker 1: and Dino says, the project must be suspended. The data
- 49:02Speaker 1: has been leaked to the press. It'll be in next
- 49:04Speaker 1: week's issue of Newsweek. Fox is like, so your son
- 49:09Speaker 1: abandoned the hostages. He puts his hand on his chin.
- 49:13Speaker 1: That's unexpected. Dino says, you guard this place, execute the hostages,
- 49:19Speaker 1: and send their bodies to him. Make sure he feels
- 49:22Speaker 1: the full weight of what he's done. At this point,
- 49:25Speaker 1: the credits start to appear on the screen. We cut
- 49:29Speaker 1: to Sing and another Chinatown gang dude like in a tree.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Sing is looking through binoculars and the other guy has
- 49:36Speaker 1: a walkie talkie and he says, there he is. It's Goalzeene.
- 49:42Speaker 1: We see cars leaving the National Mental Health Institute, several
- 49:46Speaker 1: black cars, and then we see Kane and one of
- 49:49Speaker 1: his guys like in a kind of wooded area, and
- 49:52Speaker 1: Kane says he's coming. We see the first car. The
- 49:56Speaker 1: guys in it are like rounding a corner and they
- 49:58Speaker 1: look really confused, and then we see what's confusing them.
- 50:02Speaker 1: A tractor trailer and a pickup truck are completely blocking
- 50:05Speaker 1: the road, like all the way, like they're parked across it.
- 50:09Speaker 1: And one of the guys is like a car crash,
- 50:12Speaker 1: and then like a bunch of the gang members like
- 50:14Speaker 1: pop out from behind the cars and start shooting at
- 50:17Speaker 1: this car, and the car like spins out because they
- 50:19Speaker 1: hit one of its tires, so it's like not facing
- 50:22Speaker 1: forward anymore, and the guys are probably dead. And Goalzine's
- 50:25Speaker 1: car is the next car and they have to break
- 50:26Speaker 1: like super hard to avoid hitting it, so now they
- 50:30Speaker 1: can't even get past this car, and now they were
- 50:32Speaker 1: being fired on two Gregory says, pop a get down,
- 50:35Speaker 1: and he like pushes Goalsane down to the floor. The
- 50:39Speaker 1: car is just getting shot like the fuck up, and
- 50:41Speaker 1: now Gregory and Dino are like behind it taking cover.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Gregory turns to someone and says, take Papa somewhere safe.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Then he starts to return fire, but he pretty quickly
- 50:53Speaker 1: gets shot like three times in the chest. Oh my god, Gregory,
- 50:57Speaker 1: poor Gregory, I guess, and Dino's like, oh my god,
- 51:02Speaker 1: I'm so excited. This is the only time Gregory's name
- 51:04Speaker 1: has been said in the anime, and he really is Gregory. Yeay,
- 51:08Speaker 1: I feel validated finally. Sorry. Anyway, at this point, the
- 51:13Speaker 1: ending theme starts to play and A gun appears behind
- 51:17Speaker 1: Dino's head and we see that it is ash and
- 51:20Speaker 1: he says, don't move, Yes, you're coming with me. Dino moves,
- 51:25Speaker 1: he turns his head towards him and says, I didn't
- 51:28Speaker 1: think you were as foolish. He stands, you know, splid
- 51:31Speaker 1: gunpoint though, and we see the Blancas there now and
- 51:34Speaker 1: they've you know, stopped firing obviously, and Blanca says, we
- 51:39Speaker 1: meet again, sir. He's kind of like smiling politely. He's
- 51:42Speaker 1: so weird, and Dino's like to think i'd see you
- 51:46Speaker 1: in this situation. You've sunk in quite low working as
- 51:49Speaker 1: an underdog for these punks. Blanc is like, I mean
- 51:52Speaker 1: that's what I was to begin with anyway. Ash Andy
- 51:55Speaker 1: Gang lead Dino back towards the institute at gunpoint, and
- 52:00Speaker 1: doctor Mannerheim and Fox are like watching them approach from
- 52:04Speaker 1: one of the windows in the building and doctor Mannerheim says,
- 52:08Speaker 1: I can't believe it, colonel, and Fox is like, what
- 52:12Speaker 1: a surprise. I'm amazed, Doctor, get ready to escape. Doctor
- 52:17Speaker 1: Mannerheim is confused, and Fox continues, get me your research
- 52:21Speaker 1: data and as many samples of the drug as you
- 52:23Speaker 1: can at this point. Ash and Golzin enter the building
- 52:26Speaker 1: and the staff is there standing around like scared and
- 52:29Speaker 1: not knowing what to do, and Ash says, get me,
- 52:31Speaker 1: doctor Mannerheim. We hear Fox say you can talk to me. Instead,
- 52:37Speaker 1: we see that he's standing like above, kind of on
- 52:39Speaker 1: the balcony area that we know about from previous shots
- 52:42Speaker 1: of this place. He continues, so we meet again, young Air.
- 52:46Speaker 1: He starts to walk down the stairs. What are your demands?
- 52:50Speaker 1: Ash says, release all the hostages now, Fox smirks. I
- 52:56Speaker 1: see his face falls. Here's my answer. He pulls out
- 53:00Speaker 1: a gun and he just shoots Golding twice in the chest.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Ash is like horrified and Dino falls to the ground
- 53:08Speaker 1: in slow motion as his blood kind of like spurts everywhere,
- 53:11Speaker 1: and then we go with the title card for whom
- 53:13Speaker 1: the bell holes. I guess it was Dino and that's
- 53:16Speaker 1: the end. Yay, So closing thoughts, I think I said
- 53:21Speaker 1: most of what I needed to say during the episode,
- 53:24Speaker 1: which was intentional this time. But fucking Dino just got shot,
- 53:28Speaker 1: So that's pretty cool. I mean, I was gonna say
- 53:32Speaker 1: I'd prefer if Ash had done it, but I actually
- 53:34Speaker 1: don't care who kills Dino or anything. I just don't
- 53:37Speaker 1: want him around messing sit up anymore, you know, running sex,
- 53:41Speaker 1: trafficking things and using mind control drugs on people in
- 53:45Speaker 1: other countries, like, get him out of here. But I
- 53:48Speaker 1: was really shocked that Fox shot him, and I have
- 53:51Speaker 1: no idea why I was shocked because Fox obviously his
- 53:55Speaker 1: kind of plan is like get Dino out of there
- 53:58Speaker 1: and use Ash to control the Corsican mafia. But for
- 54:03Speaker 1: some reason, I just didn't expect him to go like,
- 54:05Speaker 1: oh okay, and then just shoot him so that he
- 54:07Speaker 1: didn't have to negotiate with Ash anymore. So yeah, so
- 54:11Speaker 1: obviously it looks like we're heading towards some sort of
- 54:14Speaker 1: big fight conclusion thing, which is good because next week
- 54:17Speaker 1: is the last episode, which is, I should warn you.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Instead of being twenty two minutes, it's thirty one minutes.
- 54:23Speaker 1: I guess just didn't have any commercial breaks in Japan
- 54:26Speaker 1: or something, and it feels long. Yeah, next week's episode
- 54:31Speaker 1: is gonna be a lot. But yeah, I really liked
- 54:35Speaker 1: this episode. I am still incredibly hurt that Ash and
- 54:39Speaker 1: Agy couldn't even touch each other. They were so close
- 54:42Speaker 1: to just touching, which makes me all the more sad.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Because I know that they both wanted that, and knowing
- 54:50Speaker 1: that Ash has such a big problem with being touched
- 54:52Speaker 1: by people, it's just really sad, like he has this
- 54:56Speaker 1: person that offers him so much comfort and he just couldn't.
- 55:01Speaker 1: And I know he blames himself for putting Ag in
- 55:04Speaker 1: that situation, but he's told Ag so many times that
- 55:09Speaker 1: he's dangerous and that the people around him get hurt.
- 55:12Speaker 1: AG made the decision to stay because Ag cares about
- 55:16Speaker 1: him more than he cares about his safety. It seems.
- 55:21Speaker 1: I mean, I would feel the same way Ash feels.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I would feel like it was my fault, but I'm
- 55:26Speaker 1: saying it is not, at least not entirely, and that
- 55:29Speaker 1: I hope that he realizes that. Anyway, That's really all
- 55:35Speaker 1: I got. I don't know how well it was explained
- 55:38Speaker 1: in the anime, really, but like the idea that they
- 55:40Speaker 1: were like, we're gonna kill the hostages if you don't
- 55:42Speaker 1: show up, or if you publish the thing, will kill them,
- 55:45Speaker 1: and then Ash was just like, I guess we're just
- 55:47Speaker 1: publishing all of the stuff in an effort to get
- 55:52Speaker 1: Goalsing to leave the National Mental Health Institute so that
- 55:55Speaker 1: they could fucking basically barricade them and catch goalsing. I
- 56:00Speaker 1: thought that was a really interesting, good plan. Yeah, anyway,
- 56:04Speaker 1: really that's pretty much it, but I did want to say,
- 56:06Speaker 1: here is the plan going forward. So next week we
- 56:09Speaker 1: have the really terrible twenty fourth episode, the last episode
- 56:13Speaker 1: of Banana Fish that we're going to cover, obviously, and
- 56:16Speaker 1: then I will do three more Banana Fish weeks. I
- 56:20Speaker 1: am sorry if you don't like Banana Fish, but no
- 56:23Speaker 1: one told me that they didn't want me to do this,
- 56:25Speaker 1: so we're doing it. And so these three weeks we'll
- 56:28Speaker 1: cover those one shots that come after this that are
- 56:31Speaker 1: just don't exist in the anime. So first week we'll
- 56:34Speaker 1: do Angelize, second week we will do Garden of Lights,
- 56:39Speaker 1: and that's going to be really upsetting, and then the
- 56:42Speaker 1: third week we will probably wrap things up with Private Opinion.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I have a lot to say about all of these.
- 56:48Speaker 1: So if you listen next week and you're like I
- 56:51Speaker 1: feel like there was so much more that Michelle could
- 56:53Speaker 1: have said that she didn't say, it's cause I'm waiting.
- 56:55Speaker 1: So yeah, after that, I will probably take a couple
- 56:59Speaker 1: of weeks off maybe I'm not sure yet, and I
- 57:02Speaker 1: will pick back up with a different anime, but I'm
- 57:05Speaker 1: not sure which one. It's either going to be Serial
- 57:09Speaker 1: Experiments Lane, Doro Hedoro, or eighty six. If you have
- 57:15Speaker 1: a preference, you should let me know. I'm leaning away
- 57:18Speaker 1: from Serial Experiments Lane primarily because it has no way
- 57:23Speaker 1: to legally stream it for some reason, like nobody has
- 57:25Speaker 1: the license in the US, so I feel like that
- 57:28Speaker 1: would be harder. The other two are also really interesting
- 57:33Speaker 1: weird series. Well, Dora Hedoro is weird, eighty six is
- 57:38Speaker 1: interesting whatever written by female, either Mangaca or writers that
- 57:44Speaker 1: I do kind of want to share. And Dora Heidoro
- 57:47Speaker 1: has an upcoming season sometime in twenty twenty five, so
- 57:50Speaker 1: that could be kind of cool because you could watch
- 57:51Speaker 1: it with me, and then you could watch the new
- 57:53Speaker 1: season when it comes out. I don't know. I'm saying.
- 57:56Speaker 1: If you have a preference, you can email me your preference,
- 58:00Speaker 1: or you can tell me that I should just stop
- 58:02Speaker 1: doing this because this season just made you hate me.
- 58:05Speaker 1: Whatever you want, I don't know, just something anyway that's
- 58:09Speaker 1: gonna be it for me. I've said too much stuff already,
- 58:13Speaker 1: So I hope you have like a really good whatever,
- 58:16Speaker 1: and I'm gonna see you next week. Maybe unless we
- 58:19Speaker 1: all die later. Weeps.
