- 0:04The Bible teaches that God Almighty has appointed 7
- 0:09trumpets to signal a remarkable series of events in the last
- 0:13days. When the first trumpet is
- 0:16sounded, 1/3 of this very planet will be consumed by hail and
- 0:21fire. The second alarm will call for
- 0:27something like a great mountain that will crash into the sea,
- 0:32turning it into blood and destroying a third of its
- 0:38creatures and even the ships on it.
- 0:43The third sound will invite a star from heaven to destroy 1/3
- 0:52of the rivers and the springs of water that will make it deadly
- 0:56to drink. The 4th, the Bible tells us,
- 1:01will actually dim 1/3 of the sun, moon, and stars.
- 1:09The 5th trumpet will actually summon some of the most vicious
- 1:14and heinous demons to torment the inhabitants of the earth for
- 1:19a total of five months. And the 6th summons 4
- 1:24high-ranking fallen angels to lead the charge in slaying 1/3
- 1:30of the human population. As unimaginable as these things
- 1:34are, there is yet one more trumpet to be sounded.
- 1:41And unlike the previous ones, the 7th trumpet will not set
- 1:46into motion, at least directly, any cataclysmic event.
- 1:51Instead, this final climactic blast will awaken the hearts of
- 1:57those in heaven to offer exuberant praise and worship.
- 2:04For what reason? Well, as we are about to read,
- 2:10because something is about to transpire that the redeemed have
- 2:13been waiting and praying for across the ages.
- 2:17And we're going to see that together in Revelation Chapter
- 2:2011, beginning in verse 15. And I invite you to look at it
- 2:23with me as we seek to complete this chapter this afternoon.
- 2:32Here's what the word of God says.
- 2:35Then the 7th Angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud
- 2:37voices in heaven saying, the Kingdom of the world has become
- 2:41the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and He shall reign
- 2:45forever and ever. And the 24 elders who sit on
- 2:48their Thrones before God fell on their faces and worship God,
- 2:52saying, We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and
- 2:57who was. For you have taken your great
- 2:59power and begun to reign the nation's rage.
- 3:03But your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged,
- 3:07and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and Saints, and
- 3:11those who fear your name, both small and great.
- 3:14And for destroying the destroyers of the earth.
- 3:18Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of His
- 3:21covenant was seen within His temple.
- 3:24There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of Thunder, an
- 3:29earthquake, and heavy hail. Pray with me, Lord, You've been
- 3:35with us. We pray that you would go before
- 3:38us in the reading and the explanation of Your Word.
- 3:41We pray that Your Son would be exalted.
- 3:43We pray that our hearts would be uplifted.
- 3:46And we pray that in all these things Your will would be done,
- 3:50that you would be blessed as we receive your blessing.
- 3:52In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 3:56Well, you know that on Friday nights we're studying Ezra.
- 3:58But before that we've spent many, many months studying the
- 4:01books of first and second kings. And if you were there for those
- 4:05studies, then you would recall that on many occasions whenever
- 4:08a new ruler was coronated, it was sometimes accompanied by the
- 4:13sound of a trumpet to announce his enthronement.
- 4:19And that is precisely what we are seeing here, that that's the
- 4:22reflection that there is an announcement being made with
- 4:25this 7 trumpet and it is one that focuses on the person of
- 4:30Jesus Christ. You see, the reason why there is
- 4:32such a strong and joyful reaction to the sound is because
- 4:37there is this long-awaited promise that is ready to be
- 4:41fulfilled, the promise of God's eternal Kingdom coming to earth
- 4:47and being established forever and ever.
- 4:52And this is so imminent, this is so near that it's being
- 4:56recognized in this very moment. Christ is about to return.
- 5:01In this description of God's prophetic timeline of the last
- 5:04days, by this moment, at this juncture, we are being told that
- 5:11Christ is about to bring the full manifestation of His
- 5:15Kingdom to this world. And this is something that stirs
- 5:19the hearts of these worshippers in obvious and even subtle ways.
- 5:24And I want you to see something as we look at the song of
- 5:27triumph and compare it to other portions of the Book of
- 5:30Revelation. So if you have Revelation open,
- 5:33go back to chapter 1. I want you to see something here
- 5:35in verse 4, Revelation 1, Revelation one, verse 4, John to
- 5:46the seven churches that are in Asia.
- 5:48Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to
- 5:54come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne.
- 5:58Go down to verse 8 of chapter 1. I am the Alpha and the Omega
- 6:03says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come the
- 6:09Almighty. Go to chapter 4 verse 8 now and
- 6:17the four living creatures, each of them with six wings are full
- 6:21of eyes all around and within and the and day and night.
- 6:24They never cease to say holy, holy, holy is the Lord God
- 6:28Almighty who was and is and is to come.
- 6:34This declaration of the eternality of God and the wide
- 6:39span of His ways is repeated in the same way as we just saw in
- 6:42all these occurrences. Right.
- 6:45But did you notice what was omitted in that similar phrase
- 6:50in the act of worship of Chapter 11?
- 6:53Look at it again with me, Revelation 11 verse 16 and the
- 6:5824 elders who sit on their Thrones before God fell in their
- 7:02faces and worship God saying we give thanks to you, Lord God
- 7:06Almighty, who is and who was full stop for you have taken
- 7:13your great power and begun to reign.
- 7:16What's missing this time? Who is to come?
- 7:19Why, because he's about to come. Christ is about to fulfill that
- 7:25very part. He's about to make his way into
- 7:29this world, and the 7th trumpet announces his enthronement.
- 7:36It's preparing us for it. But the coronation of the Lord
- 7:40Jesus is not the only thing that's being celebrated here.
- 7:43You have to understand that this celestial choir has a
- 7:47comprehensive understanding of the things that will follow as a
- 7:51result of Christ establishing His throne on the earth.
- 7:54And there are at least five things, at least five things
- 7:57that we can examine from these verses that we read together.
- 8:00And we're going to look at it. But before we look at it, I, I
- 8:04want to present something. I want to present by way of
- 8:09example, what I pray and hope our response to these truths
- 8:13will be look at the 24 elders and see what happens to them.
- 8:17Again, in verse 16, it says here.
- 8:20And the 24 elders who sit on the Thrones before God fell on their
- 8:24faces and worship God. So the revelation of the return
- 8:32of Christ was so profound, so forceful, that it catapulted
- 8:38these high-ranking beings off their seats of honor and planted
- 8:44them on the lowest place possible on their faces before
- 8:48the presence of God. And I can't help but think that
- 8:53our hearts should respond in a similar way as we hear this
- 8:56message that we too would experience a fresh sense of
- 9:01surrender, A rush of adoration towards Christ, as we are going
- 9:05to remember that this Jesus that we love, this Jesus that has
- 9:10saved us from our sins is going to come back.
- 9:13And we will see him, we will behold him, and we will see at
- 9:19least five things happening as a result of it.
- 9:23And so let's consider this now together.
- 9:25The first thing that we can expect at the return of Christ
- 9:28is that this world will be conquered by His Kingdom.
- 9:32This world will be conquered by His Kingdom.
- 9:35I find it fascinating that the voices in verse 15 do not say
- 9:40the kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of our Lord
- 9:45and of His Christ. It doesn't say kingdoms.
- 9:48Look again. What does it say in verse 15?
- 9:51The Kingdom singular? He's not Speaking of the plural
- 9:56here. And this detail reminds us of a
- 9:58crucial truth of the world that we live in, that although there
- 10:02are diverse nations and there are unique governments and there
- 10:05are, there are different ideas of politics being implemented.
- 10:09There are diverse cultures, absolutely.
- 10:11But in reality, everything is ultimately ruled under one
- 10:16Kingdom, and that is Satan's. That is Satan's Kingdom, and
- 10:24this is something that the apostle John who wrote the Book
- 10:26of Revelation always believed and always taught.
- 10:30Let me remind you of a known verse from his first epistle.
- 10:33In first John 519 John says we know that we are from God and
- 10:40the whole world lies in the power of the evil. 1 The whole
- 10:45world lies in the power of the evil.
- 10:47What a jolting thought that the world you and I live in is
- 10:51dominated by Satan only because God has permitted him to
- 10:57administer a large amount of influence in this present age.
- 11:01But what's very heartbreaking about this statement John makes
- 11:04in first John 519 is the word that he uses concerning our
- 11:09world. It lies in the power of the evil
- 11:14one. That word lies in the original
- 11:16language denotes the posture of a baby, which means that the
- 11:23world is not struggling, resisting or fighting against
- 11:27this invisible evil spiritual reign.
- 11:32It voluntarily rests in the grip of Satan.
- 11:36It lies in the power of the evil. 1 Moreover, John tells us
- 11:42that not just part of the world, not just certain nations, but
- 11:46the whole world is under his domain.
- 11:51That means our politics, our entertainment, our economy, our
- 11:57cultures, alternative religions and expressions of spirituality
- 12:02have a level of satanic influence behind them.
- 12:06And if it wasn't for God's common grace of operating in our
- 12:10world, then we would see hell on earth.
- 12:14But even with God's grace being dispensed every single day, we
- 12:19still have to understand and comprehend that Satan is at work
- 12:23in every sphere of society. And that is not meant to cause
- 12:28any of us to live in paranoia, because it easily can.
- 12:32What we are told, according to John, is that we should know
- 12:36this so that we can be discerning, that we can be
- 12:40cautious, that that we should be alert as we navigate through
- 12:45this life dependent on the Lord. Understanding this.
- 12:48Believer, please hear me. You and I are living in enemy
- 12:52territory. Every single moment of our lives
- 12:57we are living in enemy territory.
- 12:58This world is not neutral towards Christians.
- 13:03It is hostile. Temptations, deceptions, and
- 13:08even persecutions are lurking all around us from the moment
- 13:12you wake up and get out of your bed to the moment you return to
- 13:16lay your heavy head on that pillow.
- 13:19You and I are always at war, and that warlike mentality should
- 13:26change the way you approach everything, including your
- 13:30relationship with the Lord and the Church, how you engage with
- 13:34everything that comes your way. But here's the good news about
- 13:36Christ, that there is an appointed hour when he will
- 13:40actually physically, bodily invade this world, overthrow
- 13:46Satan's tyranny, plant his flag on every single hill, and we're
- 13:52going to see an awesome thing. The whole world will be under
- 13:56his influence. Every corner of our culture,
- 13:59every facet of our society will be under his authority.
- 14:06And I'm afraid that many Christians have an overly
- 14:07simplistic understanding of the last days, summarized usually in
- 14:12Well, there's a day coming where Christ is going to come snatch
- 14:14us all the way, judge the world to hell while we're tucked away
- 14:18safe in eternity. The doctrine of the return of
- 14:23Christ is much more triumphant than that.
- 14:27And here's a hint, Christ is coming for his bride, but he's
- 14:30going to do much more than that. He's going to again come and
- 14:35terminate Satan's reign. And then with the redeemed, he
- 14:41is going to promote many of his church to actually live in
- 14:47positions of authority to rule and reign with him.
- 14:49According to Revelation 24, a 1000 years as we witness what
- 14:53the world has never seen. And that is a perfect
- 14:56government, where Christ will for that length of time declare
- 15:01to the generations that He is the true king, and that only His
- 15:04government can bring true peace and true justice.
- 15:09And when Christ does come to take over the Kingdom of this
- 15:13world, he will fulfill what Zechariah 14-9 prophesied, that
- 15:18the Lord will become the king over all the earth.
- 15:24And in that day the Lord will be 1 and his name 1.
- 15:28The first thing that we can expect when Christ comes back is
- 15:30that he's going to conquer this world.
- 15:33But #2 the dead will be judged. That's what we find near the
- 15:39start of verse 18. Look again with me.
- 15:42The nations raged, but your wrath came.
- 15:45And the time for the dead to be judged.
- 15:49So in the same way that the the rule of Christ will be
- 15:52universal, so will his judgement be every single person, man or
- 15:58woman. They will stand before the
- 16:01tribunal of God, and in that moment he will determine their
- 16:05eternal faith with perfect justice.
- 16:09And so extensive is this judgment that even the dead will
- 16:11not be able to escape. And in fact, they've sealed
- 16:13their faith once they have died. Now, what's this judgment going
- 16:18to be about exactly? I believe this.
- 16:21The same verse gives us a clue. Look again at the beginning of
- 16:24verse 18. The nation's raged, but your
- 16:28wrath came. And then he speaks about
- 16:31judgement. So what are the nations so angry
- 16:35about? Well, we're going to find out in
- 16:38a moment here. But this is what it shows us
- 16:40thus far, that God's judgement, his scrutiny will confront a
- 16:45raging world, an infuriated people.
- 16:51And the reason why they are so enraged is because of God and
- 16:56his reign. That's the context, is it not?
- 17:00Christ's Kingdom is coming, the nations at the thought of Christ
- 17:04coming and ruling has caused them to be inflamed with such
- 17:08anger and he will judge them for it.
- 17:12These lyrics are very reminiscent of Psalm 2, are they
- 17:14not? Remember how much of Revelation
- 17:18is absolutely saturated with the Old Testament?
- 17:21What did Psalm 2 say in the beginning?
- 17:23Well, the psalmist asked the question, why do the nation's
- 17:25rage and the people's plot in vain?
- 17:30The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take
- 17:33counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed,
- 17:35saying, Let us burst their bonds apart and castaway their cords
- 17:39from us. Here's the translation.
- 17:42The nations are enraged because they cannot fathom that the Lord
- 17:48and His anointed would seek to place their yoke upon them.
- 17:55They view His leadership as intolerable.
- 17:58They understand that his His lordship is an unwelcome divine
- 18:03restraint, and so they will oppose Him.
- 18:09The world will actually oppose Christ up to the very moment
- 18:12that He makes himself visible in all His glory and power.
- 18:20And yes, it is true that the world abhors the thought of
- 18:23Christ material reign, but let me remind you something.
- 18:28They deny and reject His spiritual reign just as much as
- 18:31you and I experienced his reign today.
- 18:34Christ is not going to become King when He comes back.
- 18:37He is King now, but His kingship will be in full display, and the
- 18:42way He rules and reigns now is spiritually in our hearts
- 18:45through His Church. And I want to make the case that
- 18:50the world is just as vehemently upset and opposed to the concept
- 18:57of Christ ruling over them now as they will be when He comes
- 19:01back. And here's a test for you and I
- 19:06to know if we're worldly, if we're like the world.
- 19:12Do you desire his rule and reign?
- 19:15Do you desire his kingship over your life that determines if you
- 19:19truly belong to Him? And and the way we prove it
- 19:23ultimately is by the way we live.
- 19:28So when Christ comes back, He will meet the unholy, rebellious
- 19:34rage of the world with His holy, unstoppable wrath.
- 19:40The essence of this judgement is Christ confronting the living of
- 19:43the dead who did not joyfully surrender to His lordship when
- 19:47they had the chance. The dead will be judged #3 the
- 19:53redeemed will be rewarded. Look again at the middle of
- 19:56verse 18. It's right in the middle,
- 19:57actually. And four, rewarding your
- 20:00servants, the prophets and Saints.
- 20:03What a wonderful promise. So while an angry world should
- 20:08expect wrath, the redeemed anticipates rewards, not wrath
- 20:14rewards. And in case you're listening to
- 20:18this message and you're unfamiliar with the the central
- 20:20message of our faith, Christ is not coming back with the
- 20:24possible reward of our salvation depending on how you lived.
- 20:29No, no, no, no, no. His salvation is a free gift
- 20:33that has already been given and received by your faith.
- 20:38That being said, the rewards that He will come with are for
- 20:42the redeemed who have already experienced His grace and
- 20:45received it by faith. But we'll know either more or
- 20:51fewer rewards based on their commitment to Christ and their
- 20:55faithfulness to Him. That's what's in view here.
- 20:58So it's the rewards for those who have been redeemed, His
- 21:01servants, the prophets, the Saints, those who fear your
- 21:04name. So we're not waiting, hoping
- 21:06that Christ is going to save us. I hope that my name is written
- 21:09in the Lamb's book of life. That's been said and done.
- 21:12However, there will be an evaluation about how you and I
- 21:15lived with the truths that we have in the word of God as
- 21:19Christ being our Lord. This is what we have to
- 21:22anticipate. And this is so marvelous because
- 21:27God's way of judging is so different than man's.
- 21:31Look at the last phrase of this verse.
- 21:34We see here that it will be, yes, the servants, the prophets,
- 21:37the Saints, and those who fear your name.
- 21:40But he mentions the small and great.
- 21:43Do you see that? Both small and great.
- 21:46What does he mean by that? Well, it's the encouraging truth
- 21:50that the Lord is ready to honor both those who are widely
- 21:55recognized, highly praised and appreciated, and those who go
- 22:02largely unnoticed by the world and especially the church, both
- 22:09small and great. You may be here today as a
- 22:13genuine follower of Christ. You love him, you adore him, you
- 22:18serve him, you are steadfast. You, you, you come to church and
- 22:24you, you love the Bride of Christ.
- 22:26And at the same time you from time to time look at your own
- 22:30life and think, I'm just, I'm very ordinary.
- 22:35And I don't know if my contributions to the Kingdom
- 22:38actually matter much. In fact, they might be meager
- 22:41actually. And if that is you, I want you
- 22:45to be so encouraged today with this truth in this verse that if
- 22:50you are faithful, God will reward you.
- 22:53God will reward you. You know, you and I were
- 22:57reflecting last time we were together in this book about how
- 23:01the great city of Jerusalem in God's eyes was condemned, was
- 23:08vile, was morally bankrupt, great in the sight of man, but
- 23:13in God's view, so found wanting, so lacking.
- 23:19The way God perceives things is extremely humbling and sobering.
- 23:24And I was reflecting on this earlier this week of how the
- 23:27Lord looks at people way differently than you and I do.
- 23:31And what came to mind was what the Angel told Zechariah, who'd
- 23:35be the father of that great man of God, John the Baptist.
- 23:39And I want to read to you what the Angel told Zechariah, and
- 23:44it's for you as well. And Luke 114 listen to these
- 23:48words, and you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice
- 23:53at his birth, verse 15 For he will be great before the Lord,
- 23:59and he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be
- 24:02filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb.
- 24:07So many today are pursuing an understanding of greatness that
- 24:14is worldly, that are tirelessly disciplining themselves because
- 24:21they are motivated by a secular notion of legacy.
- 24:24I want to leave a legacy for my family.
- 24:26I want to leave a legacy for my generation.
- 24:29And what you find here instead is that if you and I want to
- 24:34attain unfading, everlasting reward, all you have to do in
- 24:40your ambition is seek to be great before the Lord.
- 24:45Do you see that in verse 15? He shall be great before the
- 24:50Lord? And how God views greatness is a
- 24:55strong contrast to how the world measures it.
- 24:59And all I have to be preoccupied with on a daily basis is to
- 25:02understand how the Lord esteems greatness, and then to pursue
- 25:07it, trusting that though I may be overlooked, though I may be
- 25:11underappreciated, though I made me ignored, Oh, there's a day
- 25:15coming where He will personally reward me.
- 25:18And His reward will outweigh the prizes of 10 thousands of your
- 25:24companions who may express their gratitude for you.
- 25:28It will be from the Prince of Peace himself.
- 25:34And I'm reminded from this that oh God, you must be my primary
- 25:38audience all the time. You are the one that I am
- 25:42seeking to please. And when you listen, when you
- 25:45live in that reality, I assure you this, the back breaking
- 25:49pressures of worldly success and the agonizing lies of being a
- 25:55failure will roll off your shoulders.
- 26:00He will come to reward the redeemed.
- 26:03But fourthly, the last part of verse 18, we read an interesting
- 26:08declaration. And for destroying the
- 26:14destroyers of the earth. The fourth thing that we can
- 26:21expect when Christ comes back is a destruction of the wicked.
- 26:25The wicked will be destroyed. Listen, we're all sinners.
- 26:30Each of us have fallen short of the glory of God.
- 26:34And yet, the Bible tells us that there are different categories
- 26:37of evil that can be committed, and what's being highlighted
- 26:44here is not those who pollute the environment or who are
- 26:48careless towards the ecosystem, but those who are ambitiously
- 26:54seeking to corrupt the world through their evil, especially
- 26:58those in powerful positions and platforms of influence.
- 27:02God is going to target the destroyers of the earth, meaning
- 27:10in context, He's going to come after the Antichrist, his
- 27:13minions, and his evil empire. Absolutely.
- 27:15But this also encompasses anyone who has promoted or encouraged
- 27:21sin in ways that disintegrate the fabric of society.
- 27:28Christ is keeping in mind those who are leading the charge or
- 27:31adding fuel to the fire that is destroying this world.
- 27:36So let me be very clear. Anyone who advocates for the
- 27:39murder of children in the womb is a destroyer of the earth.
- 27:45Anyone who encourages someone to believe that they are not the
- 27:47gender God assigned at birth is a destroyer of the earth.
- 27:52Anybody who teaches and advocates and encourages people
- 27:56to marry of the same sex is assaulting the very bedrock of
- 28:00civilization and is a destroyer of the earth.
- 28:04Anybody who has haunted down or harassed a Christian or the
- 28:08church who by the word of God is identified as the salt and the
- 28:13light of the earth, is a destroyer of the earth.
- 28:17Christ is coming for those who destroy the earth.
- 28:22And here's hope, if you have played a part in that, that even
- 28:26if you have done something to harm God's intended world, what
- 28:34God has designed for His creation, you can call out to
- 28:39Him and he will forgive you completely, totally.
- 28:44And not only will He forgive you, He will adopt you.
- 28:46And not only will He adopt you, He will crown you and reward you
- 28:50should you remain faithful to Him.
- 28:53But all for those who are adamant and stubborn and
- 28:59convinced that they are doing a world of favor by destroying it
- 29:03according to the authority of God's Word.
- 29:05I say to you, you will be destroyed.
- 29:09Christ himself will destroy you. Wrath is looming over your head,
- 29:15and you must flee the wrath to come and hide yourself in Christ
- 29:19while you have life. The wicked will be destroyed.
- 29:25Finally, and what I'm looking forward to the most is what we
- 29:30find in verse 19. And God's temple in heaven was
- 29:34opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his
- 29:37temple. There were flashes of lightning,
- 29:40rumblings, peals of Thunder and earthquake and heavy hail.
- 29:46The fullness of God's presence will be restored.
- 29:50This is symbolically portrayed by John's words in this verse as
- 29:53he sees the unthinkable. You have to understand that John
- 29:56has a Jewish mind. He is a Jew and he understands
- 30:01that for centuries the Ark of the Covenant was veiled.
- 30:06It was designed to be hidden. It was not meant for the
- 30:10onlooker or the common gaze. Even the most privileged in
- 30:15Israel, the high priest, only had a single day to get a glance
- 30:19of this golden chess piece that symbolized God's presence on
- 30:23earth. And yet at this point in this
- 30:25vision, as he hears this amazing song being sung, he also sees
- 30:31the temple in heaven opening and the Ark of the Covenant in
- 30:38complete view, signifying what? That at Christ's coronation we
- 30:49will know the fullness of His presence.
- 30:51What was commonly known to be concealed now emerges for all to
- 30:59behold. And so here's the message of
- 31:02this The nations can expect God's wrath, but you and I, who
- 31:06are righteous in Christ, are being prepared to have full
- 31:10access and unending enjoyment of communion with God himself.
- 31:19Listen, whatever testimonies that you have known of the
- 31:24reality of God, whatever sweetness you have tasted in
- 31:28your relationship with Christ, are but a few drops of a passing
- 31:33cloud in comparison to the cascade of glory that awaits you
- 31:40as you enter into this realm and are washed by it endlessly.
- 31:48This is what you and I get to have.
- 31:51This is our inheritance. This is what awaits all of those
- 31:54who are in Christ, whether they die and enter into that world or
- 31:58if Christ comes back and brings that world to us.
- 32:03And this is something that the Bible looks forward to over and
- 32:06over again. Again, in the same way that I
- 32:07believe that many believers, precious believers, have a very
- 32:11limited understanding of the last days, they also have a very
- 32:15limited understanding of heaven and the heaven that Christ will
- 32:19bring. If you look at the language of
- 32:21the New Testament, what the greatest men of God look forward
- 32:25to the most was Christ himself, an unhindered fellowship with
- 32:32man. Let me give you familiar verses
- 32:35that many failed to meditate on. Listen to Paul's words.
- 32:38You don't have to turn there, but just soak this in.
- 32:41In Philippians 123, he says, I am hard pressed between the two,
- 32:46My desires to depart and not be in heaven.
- 32:49But what Be with Christ, be with Christ, for that is far better.
- 32:57What's far better? Being with Christ, Whoever
- 33:03Christ is, that's where heaven is.
- 33:06And Paul says as he is contemplating his potential
- 33:08martyrdom, I just, I can't wait to be with him.
- 33:14Listen to how he encourages the believers in First Thessalonians
- 33:17417. Then we who are alive, who are
- 33:21left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet
- 33:24the Lord in the air. So we will always be with the
- 33:29Lord. Do you see that?
- 33:32With him, with him, with him? So that's why we are, we are
- 33:40really strange as Christians because we can actually smile at
- 33:46death because it's the portal to being with Christ.
- 33:52But what we're being told here is ready or not, Christ is going
- 33:54to come with all His glory and we will marvel at it and we will
- 33:58enjoy it. We will savor it and we will sit
- 34:01there. Never bore with the company of
- 34:04Christ. Never.
- 34:07I'm sure there are some people in your life, even for the
- 34:09severe introvert, that you enjoy being with, with all their
- 34:13limitations and all their problems and all their
- 34:15imperfections. But there is One who will
- 34:16radiate so much joy and peace and power that it will keep you
- 34:21captivated for eons. That's what heaven is, and John
- 34:28gets a symbolic picture of it. This arc now is in full view.
- 34:32And as Christ comes back, He's going to bring a measure of His
- 34:34glory that you cannot even understand with your mind today.
- 34:40Do we long for the same? Do we yearn for it?
- 34:45Can we echo this refrain of this song, the song of triumph?
- 34:50Can I ask you this very pointed question?
- 34:53Do you find yourself yearning for it?
- 34:55Do you find yourself meditating on it?
- 34:57Do you find yourself praying for it?
- 35:01I always enjoy my Bible reading about the introduction of any
- 35:06individual in Holy Writ because the Bible has a principle that
- 35:12whenever we are introduced to a person in the Scriptures, what
- 35:15we find at first impression is very telling.
- 35:20And my mind, as I am just chewing on these truths, went to
- 35:25an obscure figure by the name of Simeon Simeon.
- 35:29Simeon, Simeon, that old man who had the privilege of carrying in
- 35:35his arms the Messiah as a baby. But let me remind you what the
- 35:40Holy Spirit says about Simeon in Luke chapter 2 verse 25.
- 35:46Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this
- 35:50man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of
- 35:55Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
- 36:00What a way to introduce this man.
- 36:03His righteousness and his devotion is connected to his
- 36:08patient waiting for the everlasting Kingdom of the Son
- 36:13of David to arrive in his lifetime.
- 36:17So if you were to open up Simeon's heart, what you would
- 36:21find is a heartbeat that continually was beating for the
- 36:25manifest reality of the Kingdom that God spoke of in the Holy
- 36:29Scriptures. And I can't help but look at my
- 36:34own life and ask, do I find myself waiting for the same?
- 36:41When my mind goes into a default state, does it ever visit the
- 36:44thought that Christ will come back with His Kingdom and
- 36:48furnish me for it? He'll make everything right.
- 36:53He'll make me right, and I will see Him face to face and enjoy
- 36:57Him for eternity. Do I ever think about that?
- 37:02And Simeon knew it. In part, he got to explore the
- 37:06the reality of Christ's coming in his first advent, but the
- 37:11fullness of it is yet to come. And according to the Book of
- 37:15Revelation, before it does come, though it is around the corner
- 37:19that the seven trump of this blast it's about to happen.
- 37:21There's still awaits a full set of judgements before it does.
- 37:29Final observation before we break bread, look back at verse
- 37:3119 after we learn about the Ark of His covenant.
- 37:35The last sentence there, there were flashes of lightning,
- 37:38rumblings, peel of Thunder and earthquake and heavy hail.
- 37:44What's happening here? A storm is brewing.
- 37:48Why? Because yes, the 7th trumpet
- 37:51announces the coronation of Christ, but it also calls for
- 37:55the pouring out of the seven bowls of God's wrath to make it
- 37:57happen. And that is what you and I will
- 38:00study in the coming weeks. And the fact that Christ's
- 38:05inauguration is being announced here shows that the final sets
- 38:11of judgments have to be very quick.
- 38:16It will be a short sequence. It will happen perhaps in a
- 38:20matter of days, at longest weeks.
- 38:24And you're going to get that sense when we read these bowls
- 38:26being poured out, that they are rapid fire, which makes sense in
- 38:30our understanding of why Christ's coming is announced.
- 38:34It's not going to be very long, and we're going to see that
- 38:36together. Let's prepare our hearts.
- 38:49We thank You, Father, that this song of triumph belongs to us as
- 38:52well. Lord, we can't wait for the day
- 38:56where You do conquer this world and that You will show the world
- 39:01that You are the true King. We thank you that you will make
- 39:06everything right. We thank you that you'll reward
- 39:08those who have served you, even even the small and
- 39:12insignificant. We thank you, O God, that you
- 39:17will end Satan's reign and that you will clean up everything
- 39:23that he has destroyed. You will restore it, You'll
- 39:27regenerate it. And that we thank you that the
- 39:30ultimate prize belongs to each of us.
- 39:32And that is the complete realization of Your presence
- 39:38before us. We may not understand how that
- 39:41will be, but we believe Your word and look forward to it.
- 39:44And Lord, as we come to this table, we are reminded of how
- 39:48that is made possible. That before you come a second
- 39:52time, You came the first time, and that you shed your blood,
- 39:57and that you lived out our obedience, and that you
- 40:00transmitted your righteousness. You imputed it unto us.
- 40:04And that we are made perfect and fit for eternity because of your
- 40:07grace. Help us rejoice in this promise
- 40:11that has become our reality. Today.
- 40:13We give you glory and thanks in Jesus name, Amen.
- 40:18As the praised team comes, we're ready to sing and rejoice over
- 40:22these things. Just examine your heart, take
- 40:25your time to really reflect on what we're about to do, and in a
- 40:28moment we will come and eat together.
- 40:31Let's stand.
