- 1:00Speaker 1: You want to get out of here?
- 1:03Speaker 6: You talk to me.
- 1:14Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:16Speaker 4: And I'm Paul.
- 1:18Speaker 7: And I'm Gina.
- 1:19Speaker 4: It's hard.
- 1:21Speaker 1: To see who was going to say something. Off track
- 1:24Speaker 1: as per usual. You guys will not be surprised by
- 1:27Speaker 1: that part, no matter where we are. And we are
- 1:29Speaker 1: coming to you live via digital recording across time and space. Again,
- 1:35Speaker 1: it's just as impressive this time as previous because we
- 1:38Speaker 1: are coming to you live simultaneously from the Meltdown Studios here.
- 1:43Speaker 7: And the kitchen.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And Blue Jay Way.
- 1:47Speaker 7: This isn't awkward at all.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Well, that's the world we live in now.
- 1:55Speaker 7: How crazy is that?
- 1:56Speaker 1: I fought doing it this way for years and then
- 1:59Speaker 1: the world shut down and this was the only option
- 2:02Speaker 1: we had to keep the ball rolling. So here we are.
- 2:06Speaker 7: You know, you're probably like me. Are you an avid
- 2:09Speaker 7: social distancer normally? Like I'm a social long distancer. So
- 2:13Speaker 7: this is kind of not so bad.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It still hasn't really changed any. I mean, unfortunately, I'm
- 2:20Speaker 1: a oh, so important person that I'm still forced to
- 2:25Speaker 1: go to work every day. So I just get to
- 2:28Speaker 1: hear other people complain about how bored they are. And
- 2:30Speaker 1: then I get up and complain and go to work.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And then the weekend rolls around and I'm like, oh yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I don't see anybody on the weekends anyway. So it's
- 2:40Speaker 1: not really that different.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 7: I mean, we're working from home, so I'm thankful to
- 2:45Speaker 7: still have a job. So that's a huge thing.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But that's, yeah, that's the one thing I'm not, I mean,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm complaining that I have to go to work every day,
- 2:51Speaker 1: but I'm not really complaining because a lot of people
- 2:53Speaker 1: are out of work. So I'm not, cause I'm living
- 2:56Speaker 1: hand to mouth. So I can't afford to not do that.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So I'm totally appreciate that. I still can afford to
- 3:02Speaker 1: survive until the, you know, we start mad maxing each
- 3:06Speaker 1: other out in the streets, but for now, We're still
- 3:09Speaker 1: containing ourselves as a population.
- 3:12Speaker 4: But you will have been tempered, you know, by the,
- 3:15Speaker 4: you know, the experience much more, you know, ready than
- 3:19Speaker 4: the rest of the population. Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Everybody else is at home getting soft and squishy on
- 3:24Speaker 1: their couch. And I'm still, wait, I was already kind
- 3:27Speaker 1: of that way, but I'm up and moving.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Damn it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I still drag myself out of bed every morning.
- 3:33Speaker 7: So what, what, what Mad Max are we talking? I mean,
- 3:36Speaker 7: are we talking like.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Well, I mean.
- 3:38Speaker 7: Top Hardy or.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. The most crazy
- 3:42Speaker 1: and over the top is probably the most recent. So,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I mean, strap yourself onto the front of a vehicle.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We're going for a ride.
- 3:49Speaker 7: Why not?
- 3:51Speaker 4: Why not?
- 3:51Speaker 7: I did like that. I liked that one.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I think everybody liked that one.
- 3:55Speaker 7: I thought it was a really good thing. Are they
- 3:57Speaker 7: going to do more?
- 3:58Speaker 1: That's what I thought. I mean, look at the break
- 4:01Speaker 1: it took him from the third one to the fourth one.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Well.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Maybe he's got that plan going again. He's like, ah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: give it 20 years or so. I'll come back around
- 4:11Speaker 1: to it. I'm working on a three cool babe action
- 4:15Speaker 1: right now. So soon as I get that done, I'll
- 4:19Speaker 1: be back to Mad Max.
- 4:21Speaker 7: Three cool babe action. I mean, it's the name of
- 4:24Speaker 7: my new prog rock band.
- 4:26Speaker 1: He's a, he's a weird guy. You got to say
- 4:29Speaker 1: for both of those to come out of the same
- 4:31Speaker 1: guy's head. I mean, it's kind of weird.
- 4:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He's a strange and awesome dude.
- 4:38Speaker 4: What was that movie that he was in where he
- 4:40Speaker 4: did the, you know, he also played the role of
- 4:43Speaker 4: his twin brother. Craze.
- 4:46Speaker 7: Well, no, what was it called? But it was about
- 4:48Speaker 7: the Cray brothers.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh, I thought we were still on the director. I
- 4:55Speaker 1: was like, what women want? No, wait, he can hear
- 4:59Speaker 1: thoughts there. That's different.
- 5:02Speaker 7: Is Tom Hardy going to be in that? Yeah, we
- 5:04Speaker 7: moved on to Tom Hardy.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 5:06Speaker 1: So now we should recast all Mel Gibson movies with
- 5:09Speaker 1: Tom Hardy.
- 5:10Speaker 7: With Tom Hardy.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Like even the ones nobody wants remade, which is probably
- 5:14Speaker 1: all of them. There's a whole lot of them.
- 5:16Speaker 7: But yeah, that would be great for Tom Hardy in
- 5:19Speaker 7: all of those movies.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Man Without a Face starring Tom Hardy, directed by Tom Hardy.
- 5:26Speaker 7: You know, I actually can't think of very many Mel Gibson. Oh,
- 5:29Speaker 7: Lethal Weapon. He could be in the Lethal Weapon series.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I mean, that's the one people would probably watch it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I don't know that they want it remade. That would
- 5:38Speaker 1: probably cause people to lose their shit.
- 5:40Speaker 7: Yeah, they'd be like, you can't remake that.
- 5:42Speaker 4: He has to grow a mullet.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Technically, we already had it remade because it was on
- 5:48Speaker 1: TV for seasons. Yeah. but nobody really counted that, I
- 5:54Speaker 1: feel like.
- 5:54Speaker 4: But then they got rid of that guy.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Well, did they get rid of that guy or did
- 6:00Speaker 1: the show get rid of that guy? Or did he
- 6:02Speaker 1: get rid of himself?
- 6:03Speaker 7: I think that guy got rid of himself.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I think it was mutual. Everyone was like, let's get away.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Let's social distance, okay? They were ahead of the curve.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Nobody really needs Mel Gibson in this role or the
- 6:15Speaker 4: role of Mel Gibson.
- 6:18Speaker 7: No, we're talking about the TV.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Show, Paul.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Mo Gibson was also not in that in case you
- 6:24Speaker 1: hadn't watched it.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I can't think of that guy's name. I can't think
- 6:28Speaker 4: of that guy's name.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Sean William Scott was in it for a while. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: thought he was the replacement.
- 6:32Speaker 4: He was the replacement.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I feel like that's the only one I watched. I
- 6:38Speaker 1: didn't watch that original guy. We saw a couple episodes.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I'm going to have to look it up.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I saw a few with Sean William Scott and I
- 6:45Speaker 1: was like, eh. Everybody kind of likes Sean William Scott.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You can't go wrong there.
- 6:50Speaker 7: I don't hate his face.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But it's a very different vibe. Like when I think,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I guess it also depends where in the Lethal Weapon
- 6:59Speaker 1: story you're at. Because like when I think crazy first
- 7:01Speaker 1: movie from Mel Gibson, I don't really think Sean William Scott.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Can pull that off, right?
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I mean, he probably can. He's a better actor than
- 7:09Speaker 1: I think we give him credit for. But still, it's
- 7:12Speaker 1: just a different vibe. Maybe because Mel Gibson was actually
- 7:15Speaker 1: kind of crazy. So it wasn't a ton of acting
- 7:19Speaker 1: going on.
- 7:20Speaker 7: Well, you know, here's a weird thing. So if you
- 7:22Speaker 7: think about it, okay, so there's Mel Gibson, who is
- 7:25Speaker 7: kind of Australian by default somehow, right? He is and
- 7:29Speaker 7: he's not.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Everyone thinks that he's Australian.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Right.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Technically by birth, he's not.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Lane Crawford was his name.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah, nobody liked him.
- 7:38Speaker 7: So you got that. And then to me, he and
- 7:41Speaker 7: like Russell Crowe have like had this tandem kind of
- 7:44Speaker 7: career as like the Australian tough guy. who then turns
- 7:49Speaker 7: into just kind of a drunk asshole in real life.
- 7:52Speaker 7: There's a lot of similarities.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Russell Crowe is like regular level asshole. He's not like
- 7:58Speaker 1: Mel Gibson, upper echelon of asshole. Not yet. People can
- 8:04Speaker 1: still kind of work with Russell Crowe. Mel Gibson, people
- 8:08Speaker 1: really don't want to most of the time. They're changing.
- 8:11Speaker 1: They're coming around. They're letting him direct stuff now. Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 1: What was the last thing he did?
- 8:16Speaker 7: It seemed like he did something and it was actually good.
- 8:18Speaker 7: I can't remember what that was.
- 8:19Speaker 1: He's directed a couple in the last few years.
- 8:23Speaker 7: What have you seen Mel Gibson in lately? Paul?
- 8:30Speaker 1: The Beaver? I don't know.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Mel Gibson movies. Wasn't he in a movie called
- 8:38Speaker 4: Payback or something? Yeah, but again, that's.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Been a long time ago, Payback. I still think of
- 8:45Speaker 1: it as a post-breakdown sort of a comeback role. He's
- 8:50Speaker 1: in one where his daughter gets in trouble. That's another
- 8:54Speaker 1: recent one that I don't remember the title.
- 8:56Speaker 7: Everybody's daughter is always getting into trouble.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Ransom was what I was thinking of.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Ransom is really old and actually really good.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I liked Ransom.
- 9:05Speaker 2: 96.
- 9:05Speaker 4: That's one of the better.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I don't remember that. It's really, well, directing wise, I'm
- 9:17Speaker 1: pretty sure.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Apparently he's done a movie every year since.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 4: He skipped a year in.
- 9:28Speaker 1: 2015, but he's, he's making his comeback because old gringo
- 9:31Speaker 1: is in there somewhere. Like there's there, everyone's sort of
- 9:35Speaker 1: forgiving as much as they can.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Oh, well, you know, signs is one of my all
- 9:41Speaker 4: time favorite movies actually. That's one thing I can say.
- 9:45Speaker 4: He was very good in that. And I didn't think
- 9:47Speaker 4: he was creepy at all other than, you know, other.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Than in real life, but within the context of the movie,
- 9:54Speaker 1: within the context of the movie and his, his actual
- 9:58Speaker 1: portrayal of that character was, actually good.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Yeah. I wasn't distracted by thinking, Oh yeah, this guy's
- 10:04Speaker 4: kind of a jerk in real life. I was, we
- 10:07Speaker 4: didn't know that about him yet.
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 1: That was still pre really.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 7: That was still lovable. Mel Gibson.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Was it? Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Science is really old.
- 10:16Speaker 7: That's old.
- 10:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right. It's 18 years old.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I mean, that's when we still thought M. Night Shyamalan
- 10:25Speaker 1: was a really impressive up-and-coming director, too.
- 10:28Speaker 7: He was a genius.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Everybody was, like, on top of their game right then.
- 10:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Just toss me off of a cliff now.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Well, Watkins, you know, still, like, he's not a crazy
- 10:38Speaker 1: person that no one likes yet. And then neither is Mel.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And everyone still respects the director, so... It's in a
- 10:45Speaker 1: golden age when that movie got made.
- 10:47Speaker 7: So, really, the strongest contender in that is, like, Joaquin
- 10:50Speaker 7: has come out on top.
- 10:53Speaker 1: He's still insane.
- 10:55Speaker 7: Yeah, but he, you know.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I mean, he was not liked quite a bit in
- 11:00Speaker 1: recent years.
- 11:01Speaker 7: Oh, no, but he still has a legitimate career.
- 11:04Speaker 1: He definitely does. They just gave him an Oscar. But,
- 11:07Speaker 1: once again, to put it in perspective, did you see
- 11:09Speaker 1: his Oscar speech?
- 11:11Speaker 7: Crazy Gentile 211. Did you see Taika Waititi talking about
- 11:17Speaker 7: the Apple keyboards?
- 11:20Speaker 1: No, but pretty much everything he does is hilarious.
- 11:24Speaker 7: It is. It's so charming. You know, because he got
- 11:29Speaker 7: the Oscar for best screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, which I loved.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Jojo Rabbit.
- 11:35Speaker 1: He deserves it for Ragnarok, as far as I'm concerned.
- 11:38Speaker 7: I think so, too. I thought that was great. Did
- 11:40Speaker 7: you not like Jojo Rabbit?
- 11:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't watch movies.
- 11:44Speaker 4: So you haven't seen it?
- 11:45Speaker 7: Oh, no. Are you joking?
- 11:49Speaker 6: I don't watch movies.
- 11:51Speaker 7: How am I ahead of the curve on this one?
- 11:53Speaker 1: You watched it?
- 11:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's hit and miss, whatever movies you watch.
- 11:58Speaker 7: I know, it really is.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I've watched several as of recently. Doesn't mean it ties
- 12:03Speaker 1: into anything you're thinking about at this very moment.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Look, you have seen, I can guarantee it, more movies
- 12:10Speaker 4: than we have in the last, I don't know, six weeks.
- 12:15Speaker 4: but that's one that we watched a little while ago
- 12:18Speaker 4: and it's, it's worth it. It's very good. It's surprisingly touching.
- 12:23Speaker 1: It's on the list.
- 12:24Speaker 7: It's not a judgment call, Brian. I'm just shocked because
- 12:27Speaker 7: you're usually, you know, so much more, I'm the person
- 12:30Speaker 7: that's way behind. Like, Oh, I didn't, I didn't see that.
- 12:33Speaker 7: I just watched the office again.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I mean, you're still behind. Don't worry. Okay. What are
- 12:39Speaker 1: you doing now?
- 12:41Speaker 7: I'm getting dinner ready. Oh, my oven is still on preheat.
- 12:51Speaker 1: So I will ask what I've what I set out
- 12:54Speaker 1: with this whole new weird series to ask everyone. I
- 12:58Speaker 1: wanted to touch base with the random people in the
- 13:01Speaker 1: Meltdown gang and say, so what have you been doing lately?
- 13:08Speaker 7: I've been going on runs every day.
- 13:11Speaker 4: And now her hips are broken.
- 13:13Speaker 7: And now my hips are broken.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Well, you're an old lady. You're not supposed to be running.
- 13:17Speaker 1: You know that.
- 13:18Speaker 7: Now I'm like Madonna sitting around in a bathtub complaining.
- 13:22Speaker 9: Oh, Lord.
- 13:22Speaker 1: So you also have a fake British accent?
- 13:26Speaker 7: Only on good days.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm guessing it's pretty bad.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Let's see. What have we been doing?
- 13:36Speaker 7: That's not very nice of you.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I mean, I've yet to hear you do a really
- 13:41Speaker 1: impressive fake accent. I don't claim I can do them either,
- 13:45Speaker 1: but I also feel like.
- 13:47Speaker 7: It's better than Winona Ryder in Dracula.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Hey, Winona is awesome across the board. We all know that.
- 13:54Speaker 7: Not saying she's not. Just saying.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Just not great at an accent. I mean... Back then.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Acting.
- 14:04Speaker 4: That's another movie that's ancient.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: It's old.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And yet it's still kind of my go-to for Dracula's.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It hit me at such a specific point that I
- 14:15Speaker 1: was like, it's a lot of my favorite people and
- 14:17Speaker 1: it's really impressive acting and it's creepy Dracula and like
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's a director. So yeah, it's like, it's still kind of, yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 1: I still really love that movie.
- 14:27Speaker 7: I do too. I do too. And that's kind of
- 14:28Speaker 7: one of my, this sounds stupid, but it's kind of
- 14:30Speaker 7: one of my favorite Gary Oldman sort of things.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Oh no, he's amazing.
- 14:34Speaker 7: He's so awesome in that.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 4: He's, he's fantastically creepy. Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 1: He, again, he's like, so dedicated to whatever he did.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Certainly back in the day, maybe now he's like mellowed
- 14:46Speaker 1: out and is a regular guy, but he was like,
- 14:48Speaker 1: so hardcore actor back then that like, yeah, he's, he's
- 14:52Speaker 1: amazing to watch.
- 14:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 7: Well, Paul, what have you been doing?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah. What are you up to these days while stuck
- 15:01Speaker 1: in the house trying not to strangle her?
- 15:03Speaker 7: Besides being driven insane by your lovely wife.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Well, we watched Jojo Rabbit. I think we've already covered that.
- 15:12Speaker 7: Did we mention that we watched that?
- 15:15Speaker 4: We watched Jojo Rabbit. We watched Knives Out. That was great.
- 15:20Speaker 1: See, I love that one.
- 15:21Speaker 7: Yeah, that was great.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That one's awesome.
- 15:23Speaker 7: That harkens back to my childhood love of Clue that
- 15:26Speaker 7: I can't get rid of.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like if Clue were really well done instead
- 15:32Speaker 1: of the ridiculous but lovable thing that it is. Don't
- 15:36Speaker 1: get me wrong. I enjoy some Clue, but it's a
- 15:39Speaker 1: train wreck, essentially. But it's a fun train wreck where
- 15:43Speaker 1: Knives Out is really well put together.
- 15:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I thought that that was very impressive. It was
- 15:47Speaker 7: really good. And then I know I texted you about
- 15:50Speaker 7: this last night, but Midsommar, I hadn't seen that until
- 15:53Speaker 7: last night. And I was like, what?
- 15:55Speaker 1: Where has this movie been? Finish it.
- 15:59Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 1: You told me, you said, I'm starting it now. And
- 16:03Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, I'm not going to say anything else.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I might put an emoji of a bear face on it.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And then eventually you were like, initially you were like,
- 16:14Speaker 1: what the hell is wrong with him? And then later
- 16:16Speaker 1: you were like.
- 16:17Speaker 7: Oh, oh, oh. Yeah, I loved that movie. And I
- 16:21Speaker 7: know that I'm late to the party, but. I don't know.
- 16:25Speaker 7: Here's the thing. I sit down to watch something and
- 16:27Speaker 7: then I get incredible anxiety. And it makes me not
- 16:33Speaker 7: want to watch it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: As I warned you ahead of time, I was like,
- 16:35Speaker 1: this one will probably encourage that. It's a definite tense.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You feel the impending doom from the word go in
- 16:45Speaker 1: this movie. From the first death, we see a few
- 16:48Speaker 1: seconds into the movie. And then like... From that point on, it's, yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know what's coming.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Yeah. Was that what you were expecting, though? I mean,
- 16:57Speaker 4: you weren't, you know, filled with dread or anxiety from that,
- 17:02Speaker 4: were you?
- 17:03Speaker 7: Oh, yeah, that movie gave me terrible anxiety. I mean,
- 17:05Speaker 7: it's two and a half hours of just, like, slow
- 17:09Speaker 7: burn anxiety.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I mean, it's even worse than... than wicker man to me.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Cause that's the most obvious like comparison. But to me,
- 17:18Speaker 1: like that first time through, like this was a long
- 17:21Speaker 1: damn time ago when I first watched the, I'm the
- 17:24Speaker 1: original wicker man, just to clarify. But yeah, it's like
- 17:28Speaker 1: that first time through, I knew it was already kind
- 17:30Speaker 1: of like a cult movie, but I didn't really know
- 17:33Speaker 1: anything about it.
- 17:34Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So I still was just kind of watching going, this
- 17:37Speaker 1: is a weird town. And, this guy, he's kind of
- 17:40Speaker 1: an asshole, but you know, he's our main character. And then, Oh, okay.
- 17:44Speaker 1: This is how we're going to end.
- 17:45Speaker 6: All right.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And then since then, like I, there's other movies that
- 17:50Speaker 1: I feel in that vein. And then you kind of
- 17:52Speaker 1: know that it's coming and this is the most like
- 17:54Speaker 1: to me. Well, this was like, yeah, You know something
- 18:00Speaker 1: horrible is going to happen to everyone.
- 18:02Speaker 9: You know?
- 18:03Speaker 7: But I had the same anxiety with like a field
- 18:06Speaker 7: in England, which I know it seems like we talk
- 18:07Speaker 7: about the same movies, but, but I know what I love.
- 18:10Speaker 7: And I know, you know, it's a particular genre and
- 18:14Speaker 7: this movie fit into that and gave me that same, like,
- 18:17Speaker 7: Oh my God, like, am I on drugs? I can't breathe.
- 18:19Speaker 7: You know?
- 18:20Speaker 1: Well, the flowers are breathing. It's all right.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You don't.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 7: The background.
- 18:23Speaker 4: That was a nice touch. I think that you can
- 18:27Speaker 4: sort of assume that anytime there's a May queen involved,
- 18:30Speaker 4: that's going to be some sort of ageist sex cult.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So I had no anxiety at all.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You stay out of my personal life. That girl was
- 18:43Speaker 1: totally willing. It's fine.
- 18:46Speaker 7: But here's my question about that. So this was a
- 18:49Speaker 7: particular thing that they did every 90 years. Was that
- 18:52Speaker 7: just the, putting the guy in a bear suit scenario
- 18:56Speaker 7: or do every year, somebody who turned 72 have to, uh,
- 18:58Speaker 7: it wasn't, could you figure that out?
- 19:02Speaker 1: I thought it was like 34 or something like it
- 19:04Speaker 1: was just long enough that the other people there had
- 19:07Speaker 1: been involved again.
- 19:08Speaker 7: I feel like, but yeah, like that's, I thought they
- 19:11Speaker 7: said 94.
- 19:12Speaker 4: They did. No, he said before they had left for Sweden,
- 19:16Speaker 4: he said, it's, it's a festival that our town only
- 19:21Speaker 4: has every 90 years. That's a long time to wait.
- 19:24Speaker 1: To kill people.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Yeah, and it looked like there were some older people
- 19:28Speaker 7: there that were older than the couple.
- 19:31Speaker 4: To Gina's point, I think that maybe they do something
- 19:36Speaker 4: every year, just not that broad of a festival.
- 19:40Speaker 1: They find other fun ways to kill people.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, maybe they've got like a chipper shredder
- 19:46Speaker 4: that they just throw people into.
- 19:47Speaker 7: I mean, usually I think they just went on an
- 19:50Speaker 7: off year. Usually it's food trucks and like bouncy castles.
- 19:53Speaker 1: They just caught a bad year. Other than that, every
- 19:57Speaker 1: other year, this thing is great. I'm sorry.
- 20:03Speaker 4: You really came on an off year and unfortunately now
- 20:05Speaker 4: you can't leave. Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Sorry about that. We really need somebody to join in
- 20:11Speaker 1: and you're the winner.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Anyway, so yeah, we watched that and it was great.
- 20:17Speaker 7: And then after that, Paul watched because I fell asleep.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Oh man.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Rambo Last Blood.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I've seen that one.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm so glad that you've seen it so that
- 20:31Speaker 4: we can share the experience. I'm going to I'll.
- 20:35Speaker 7: Just sit this one out and check on my potatoes.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I'm fine with it.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I mean, what else are you going to get from
- 20:45Speaker 1: a really old Rambo? This is totally what I would
- 20:49Speaker 1: expect at this point in Rambo's life. Dude has survived
- 20:54Speaker 1: a long damn time and through a lot.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Of crazy shit. I didn't realize it, but there was
- 21:00Speaker 4: another Rambo in 2008.
- 21:01Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Have you not seen that one? I have not seen
- 21:05Speaker 1: that one.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I've not. That one. But that was only 10 years ago. Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And that one, I mean, that's the one that sort
- 21:14Speaker 1: of made up for all the other silly ones in between.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Because I still think First Blood is a great movie.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I mean, I was a kid that loved the second one,
- 21:24Speaker 1: but I'm willing to admit how gratuitous and silly it
- 21:27Speaker 1: over the top is.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Well, let's discuss that. So in my opinion, I think
- 21:32Speaker 4: that the first one was great. It was written well.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Stallone did well. And it had Brian Dennehy in it.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It always helps any movie. Fantastic.
- 21:42Speaker 4: He's a great, great actor. But yeah, everything that followed that.
- 21:50Speaker 4: this last one was and he co-wrote it also it
- 21:55Speaker 4: was so poorly acted poorly written poorly edited.
- 22:00Speaker 7: He had a pretty horse.
- 22:02Speaker 4: None of the characters made any sense I mean it
- 22:05Speaker 4: was just ridiculous that was my thing.
- 22:07Speaker 1: It's not that it didn't make sense it's like it
- 22:09Speaker 1: wasn't clarified within the context of the movie till like
- 22:13Speaker 1: the very end like I'm still going whose house is
- 22:16Speaker 1: this is this his house Is this his land that
- 22:20Speaker 1: he's on? Like, I guess it would have to be.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:24Speaker 4: They never really spell it out. They never say that.
- 22:28Speaker 4: He says, I'm going to go wander like I always do.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Like I'm just going to abandon this property that I
- 22:35Speaker 4: own or not.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Or not. I don't know.
- 22:37Speaker 7: And have dug tunnels through.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Cause like in the, in the beginning, I thought it
- 22:41Speaker 1: was like the older lady, like the one that's sort
- 22:44Speaker 1: of like keeping the house. But I was like, wait,
- 22:48Speaker 1: so is it her house? And he's just like working
- 22:50Speaker 1: the farm.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Who the hell is the old lady?
- 22:52Speaker 1: I don't know. That's the thing.
- 22:53Speaker 7: Oh, what happened to the old lady? Did anything happen
- 22:55Speaker 7: to her?
- 22:56Speaker 4: Nothing happened to her. That's the thing. The girl dies.
- 23:01Speaker 4: The boiler or whatever.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I mean, it is the premise of the movie, but spoilers.
- 23:06Speaker 4: If you haven't watched this, you're not missing anything. She,
- 23:10Speaker 4: he lets her die because he's too busy recuperating from
- 23:14Speaker 4: getting the shit beat out of him. And that's it.
- 23:18Speaker 4: It's just a revenge film.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I mean, that's what you need in any revenge movie.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Usually there's a girl of some sort that gets at,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I don't know which is worse. we'll go with just killed.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Sometimes it's just other horrible things happen.
- 23:33Speaker 7: Sometimes it's just taken.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Well, some of the worst ones, they get taken. So
- 23:39Speaker 1: I'm going to leave it at that and not go
- 23:40Speaker 1: down that road. But then, I mean, that's where half
- 23:43Speaker 1: of the movies in the seventies were built around. And
- 23:45Speaker 1: then I have to get revenge for whatever just happened
- 23:49Speaker 1: to my family and or wife and or girlfriend and
- 23:52Speaker 1: or any other random woman.
- 23:54Speaker 6: I know.
- 23:54Speaker 4: All right, brain, but, But at least you know that
- 23:58Speaker 4: she's a girlfriend or a wife or something. I don't
- 24:02Speaker 4: even know what she was to him.
- 24:04Speaker 7: I mean.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Oh, wait.
- 24:06Speaker 7: She was his niece, but I don't know how.
- 24:09Speaker 4: No.
- 24:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 4: They weren't actually brothers.
- 24:12Speaker 1: It was like surrogate daughters.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Because he missed out having a real life, so this became.
- 24:21Speaker 4: She was nothing to him.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, this became his surrogate family... once he came back
- 24:26Speaker 1: to the country, which again, that's another one I kept
- 24:29Speaker 1: because I had seen the last movie and I was
- 24:31Speaker 1: just like, he's got like, I was kind of doing
- 24:34Speaker 1: the math. I'm like, how old is this girl? He
- 24:36Speaker 1: was around when she was still pretty young, but just
- 24:40Speaker 1: 10 years ago, you were off in another country killing people.
- 24:42Speaker 1: So like, he must've just immediately come back and moved
- 24:46Speaker 1: in with this girl and started like letting her ride
- 24:48Speaker 1: horses with him or something.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Cause like, it just made no sense. I assume that
- 24:52Speaker 4: he became like some sort of ranch hand for them
- 24:54Speaker 4: and then became like a surrogate.
- 24:57Speaker 1: That's what I thought early on. And then eventually I'm like, well, wait,
- 25:01Speaker 1: whose land is he on then?
- 25:02Speaker 7: Is this, was it in New Mexico? I assumed it
- 25:04Speaker 7: was New Mexico.
- 25:05Speaker 4: It was in Arizona.
- 25:06Speaker 7: Oh, I didn't pay attention.
- 25:09Speaker 1: How about that?
- 25:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Only based on how the rest of the story goes. Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 7: Well, I asked Paul about that. I said, did it
- 25:17Speaker 7: was so like arbitrary and goofy that she was like,
- 25:20Speaker 7: I got to go to Mexico to meet my dad.
- 25:21Speaker 7: I've never met.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I said, what happened? How that is. We all do
- 25:26Speaker 1: that sometimes.
- 25:27Speaker 4: That's the other thing that really annoyed me was her
- 25:30Speaker 4: meeting with her father. This is the real spoiler. Yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 4: there was, uh, you felt spoiled just watching it unfold
- 25:40Speaker 4: in front of you. If you're watching the movie, uh,
- 25:43Speaker 4: she shows up and, and he says, Oh, nice to
- 25:46Speaker 4: meet you. And then he proceeds to tell her, um,
- 25:49Speaker 4: you know, I never wanted you and I never wanted
- 25:52Speaker 4: your mother. So bye. See you later. And that's the
- 25:55Speaker 4: last you see of him.
- 25:56Speaker 7: Really?
- 25:57Speaker 1: I mean, what was the point? That's kind of the
- 26:00Speaker 1: most realistic thing going on there. This is how I was.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 7: Is he what caused her to die?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Well, he started the process, really, because she wouldn't have
- 26:10Speaker 1: been there and everything else wouldn't have happened.
- 26:12Speaker 4: She started the process.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, she did because she's hard-headed.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 7: Because she said, I have to go to New Mexico
- 26:19Speaker 7: to meet my dad. Right. Old Mexico.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Yeah, with her shady friend.
- 26:24Speaker 7: Not New Mexico. Old Mexico.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Old Mexico.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I found that whole dialogue exchange extremely unbelievable. I mean,
- 26:33Speaker 4: it was just... I mean, he's a bad dad.
- 26:36Speaker 1: There's still a lot of dads out there that are
- 26:38Speaker 1: horrible people. So that part, I'm like, yeah, that doesn't
- 26:40Speaker 1: surprise me. That's why he shouldn't have gone there altogether.
- 26:42Speaker 1: If he bailed on you, he's not a good dad.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Screw that guy.
- 26:47Speaker 7: Yeah, why is it her job to go find him?
- 26:50Speaker 4: Well, that too. I just found that once they finally met,
- 26:54Speaker 4: that the dialogue was just ridiculous. I was just appalled,
- 26:59Speaker 4: and I almost laughed out loud as I was watching it.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Anyway i still recommend the previous one now granted i
- 27:07Speaker 1: think i i think i just saw it when it
- 27:09Speaker 1: came out and i haven't re-watched it since but the
- 27:12Speaker 1: thing that i will say the thing that i will
- 27:14Speaker 1: say that's impressive is it because this one just gets
- 27:16Speaker 1: caught up in a silly like modern day back in
- 27:20Speaker 1: america slash mexico story now the the last one he's
- 27:25Speaker 1: like in the middle of war-torn country again, but he's
- 27:30Speaker 1: detached from it. He's just living there, again, kind of
- 27:34Speaker 1: just to punish himself, I guess. He shoves himself back
- 27:36Speaker 1: in the middle of another horrible situation, but then isn't
- 27:40Speaker 1: really involved. He's doing a specific job. He's just in
- 27:43Speaker 1: the area doing his thing, trying to stay out of trouble,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and then, of course, everything finds him. But it is
- 27:50Speaker 1: ridiculous how brutal the war footage is like it is
- 27:55Speaker 1: like if ever people who don't you know everybody still
- 27:59Speaker 1: thinks it's like playing war like again Rambo 2 is
- 28:02Speaker 1: like it's so much fun to be in the middle
- 28:04Speaker 1: of this war shooting people like this does not play
- 28:07Speaker 1: that game it is brutal and gory and realistic. Like,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it is surprising how realistic, like, the battle footage is
- 28:16Speaker 1: once you get into that part of the movie. But,
- 28:19Speaker 1: I mean, the way it should be. Like, it should
- 28:21Speaker 1: be treated seriously. And for once, in a silly action movie,
- 28:25Speaker 1: it is treated, like, as gory and horrible as any
- 28:29Speaker 1: kind of war is. Like, it's portrayed pretty accurately.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I'll have to watch that one. I'll put it on
- 28:36Speaker 4: my list. But, it reminds me when you, when you
- 28:39Speaker 4: say gory, like the, the other thing that I did
- 28:43Speaker 4: laugh out loud was the ending of last blood. When
- 28:47Speaker 4: he nails that guy to the wall with arrows and
- 28:52Speaker 4: then rips his heart out and shows it to him.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I mean, that's what we all wanted to do. Yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Oh my God. It's just ridiculous.
- 29:02Speaker 1: It was a couple of times a month. I do
- 29:04Speaker 1: that to somebody.
- 29:05Speaker 4: I mean, way over the top.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Don't be crossing me. What do you want?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 29:12Speaker 4: So yeah, we watched that or I watched that.
- 29:16Speaker 7: I did not watch that.
- 29:18Speaker 4: We finished the third season of Ozarks.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I hear lots of good things. Everybody on board. Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Fantastic.
- 29:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 7: I think it was better than, than the second season.
- 29:32Speaker 7: I think.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 29:35Speaker 7: And then we got caught up in the zeitgeist of
- 29:38Speaker 7: the time and Tiger Kingdom. which was unavoidable at the moment.
- 29:44Speaker 1: It is because I avoided it. I just people just
- 29:49Speaker 1: it's too much already. I was just like, stop, stop talking,
- 29:51Speaker 1: stop Internet, stop talking about it. I don't care.
- 29:55Speaker 7: Well, see, I went all in because if I hadn't,
- 29:58Speaker 7: I would be where you are. because I'm that persnickety
- 30:02Speaker 7: where it's like oh you gotta see it and I'm
- 30:03Speaker 7: like I wanna because you told me I gotta forget
- 30:05Speaker 7: about it it's not.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Even that so much after a while I'm just so
- 30:09Speaker 1: burnt out on it before I've seen it the idea
- 30:12Speaker 1: of sitting down for 10 plus hours or however long it.
- 30:15Speaker 7: Is no we got into it pretty quickly it just.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Doesn't seem fun we.
- 30:20Speaker 7: Were in that first wave that's still where I'm at.
- 30:23Speaker 4: I was blissfully unaware of the internet so I just
- 30:27Speaker 4: sort of walked right.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Into it.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Strolled right in.
- 30:31Speaker 7: But, you know, it's kind of what the country needs
- 30:36Speaker 7: at this moment.
- 30:38Speaker 6: Is it?
- 30:40Speaker 4: So much so that there's a follow-up episode.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Of course.
- 30:44Speaker 7: Oh, that's on tonight!
- 30:45Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it's out now.
- 30:47Speaker 7: Yeah, it's on today. I can't help it. I got
- 30:53Speaker 7: caught up in the Tiger King zeitgeist.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Yikes. What else?
- 30:58Speaker 7: It's pretty rare that I go all in for something
- 31:01Speaker 7: that's on everybody's radar.
- 31:03Speaker 4: I re-watched a documentary called Mirage Men. Are you familiar
- 31:11Speaker 4: with that at all?
- 31:12Speaker 1: The title kind of sounds familiar, but maybe not. What's
- 31:17Speaker 1: going on in this movie?
- 31:18Speaker 4: It came out in 2013, and it's about the... It's...
- 31:24Speaker 4: it recaps an old story in ufology where, uh, basically
- 31:31Speaker 4: this intelligence officer for the air force convinces a guy
- 31:36Speaker 4: that lives on the outskirts of the Kirkland air force
- 31:39Speaker 4: base that he was videotaping UFOs. And he basically makes
- 31:45Speaker 4: him go crazy and loses business. Um, and it's that
- 31:49Speaker 4: the story of, that whole thing and, and it's, uh,
- 31:57Speaker 4: impact on ufology as a whole. It was pretty interesting.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I know you do have a love for the UFOs.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I do.
- 32:04Speaker 4: I do. What more, uh, I don't know. Not, not,
- 32:09Speaker 4: not because I'm all in, but just because I find
- 32:12Speaker 4: it fascinating.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's with many of those things, the
- 32:15Speaker 1: society that's been built around it is equally, if not
- 32:19Speaker 1: more interesting than the actual act that may or may
- 32:22Speaker 1: not much like the Bigfoot people, like the people involved
- 32:26Speaker 1: in this, that they believe are way more interesting, whether
- 32:30Speaker 1: you believe or not. Same thing with the UFO people.
- 32:34Speaker 1: they and their society built around that phenomenon, give or
- 32:38Speaker 1: take whatever you want to believe, is equally as interesting
- 32:41Speaker 1: regardless of your own.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Thoughts on it.
- 32:44Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 4: I mean, I think we can all, you know, statistically speaking,
- 32:50Speaker 4: it's very likely that life exists elsewhere. But that aside,
- 32:54Speaker 4: Linda Moulton Howe and Stanton Friedman are very just interesting
- 32:59Speaker 4: individuals because of, you know, they were so wrapped up
- 33:03Speaker 4: in that, world.
- 33:07Speaker 7: I do like Linda Moulton Howell. I do like her.
- 33:10Speaker 7: I trust her and her strange eyebrows.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Well, you know, she's one of those people that, unfortunately,
- 33:18Speaker 4: she's sort of a victim of her own success. Because
- 33:23Speaker 4: of the whole cattle mutilation scenario, she sort of became
- 33:29Speaker 4: the go-to person for everything, like crop circles and leaked
- 33:36Speaker 4: documents and all that stuff. And just as an investigative journalist,
- 33:41Speaker 4: she's had the wool pulled over her eyes more than
- 33:45Speaker 4: a couple times. So that's fascinating. I mean, that's pretty.
- 33:50Speaker 7: The mutilated wool or the regular wool?
- 33:54Speaker 4: The mutilated wool.
- 33:55Speaker 1: It's a little bloody, you know.
- 33:58Speaker 7: There's holes at certain areas.
- 34:00Speaker 4: She's had the sheared wool pull over her eyes. let's
- 34:05Speaker 4: see what else what else have we been watching I.
- 34:08Speaker 7: Started watching Wild Wild Country oh yeah I fell.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Asleep at the beginning what is this thing it's about
- 34:16Speaker 4: the Rajneeshis of Oregon in the 80s it's a documentary does.
- 34:23Speaker 1: It have a rockin 80s soundtrack.
- 34:26Speaker 7: No oh man like no psychedelic furs no echo in the.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Bunny men they're doing it wrong.
- 34:37Speaker 7: Just well you could just watch it with the pretty
- 34:39Speaker 7: and pink soundtrack on i guess.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I don't know i'm sticking with breakfast club simple minds
- 34:46Speaker 1: all the way yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Put some uh early 80s soundtrack on and watch people
- 34:54Speaker 4: in their gigantic glasses you know.
- 34:58Speaker 7: Those glasses were huge.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I had those glasses So.
- 35:05Speaker 7: They either made women look like hillbilly secretaries or the
- 35:10Speaker 7: men made them look like German terrorists slash rapists. Like
- 35:16Speaker 7: those were the two glass options, frame options in the 80s.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Walked into Dr. Beiser's, give me the German terrorist look.
- 35:25Speaker 7: I don't want to look weird. Just make me look
- 35:26Speaker 7: like Tootsie.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Oh, I mean, okay. You can still go ask for
- 35:34Speaker 1: that as soon as they all open back up, go
- 35:35Speaker 1: in and ask.
- 35:37Speaker 7: Okay. So I wear glasses and I always remember going
- 35:40Speaker 7: to have to get them. And I would be like, why,
- 35:43Speaker 7: why do people buy frames where the stems on the
- 35:46Speaker 7: sides go up then down? Like women always had these,
- 35:49Speaker 7: it had these weird angles. And all I could think
- 35:53Speaker 7: was like, it's like part of a Tootsie costume. It
- 35:55Speaker 7: was terrible.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Is it so you can put your old lady chain
- 35:58Speaker 1: on there?
- 36:00Speaker 7: I don't know. I like the idea of an old
- 36:04Speaker 7: lady chain. Now I need it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Who am I kidding?
- 36:07Speaker 7: I'm 25.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Don't believe it.
- 36:10Speaker 7: I like what all those kids are liking.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Someone on the show recently was wearing an old lady chain,
- 36:20Speaker 1: and she called herself out for it being an old
- 36:21Speaker 1: lady chain. She was being fashionable and cool, and is much,
- 36:26Speaker 1: much younger than old lady.
- 36:27Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. Have you noticed? It is like
- 36:30Speaker 1: a cool hip thing to do to wear an unfashionable,
- 36:33Speaker 1: fashionable old lady chain.
- 36:35Speaker 7: Let me tell you what the kids are doing. Have
- 36:37Speaker 7: you seen them? They have the big stupid Tootsie glasses.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Have you seen them? The kids?
- 36:43Speaker 7: Have you seen what the kids are doing? They have
- 36:45Speaker 7: mom jeans and Tootsie glasses.
- 36:48Speaker 4: You kids get off my lawn.
- 36:50Speaker 7: Six feet.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Six feet.
- 36:54Speaker 1: This is what you're yelling out the window every day.
- 36:56Speaker 7: You take your tootsie glasses and get six feet away
- 36:59Speaker 7: from me.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Social distancing may be the best thing that ever happened
- 37:05Speaker 1: to our society. Let's all stay away from each other.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Oh, it's the best. Let's see. What else?
- 37:12Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 37:13Speaker 7: So talking about the eighties and old people, we've suddenly
- 37:16Speaker 7: gotten back into cheers, which we watched as kids. And man,
- 37:22Speaker 7: it's a, I never realized as a kid how funny
- 37:25Speaker 7: Cliff was. Cliff Clavin. Now as an adult, I'm like, well,
- 37:29Speaker 7: now he's funny and not just annoying.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I mean, really, as the story goes on more sad
- 37:35Speaker 1: than anything.
- 37:37Speaker 7: Oh yeah. Everybody else is early.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Everybody else is still like got a life sort of
- 37:43Speaker 1: like even the, you know, even ones that aren't portrayed
- 37:46Speaker 1: super smart, like Woody comes along and he's just like,
- 37:49Speaker 1: he's goofy, but like, he's still sort of a functional
- 37:52Speaker 1: part of the world. But Cliff is just sad. Like,
- 37:56Speaker 1: the more I look back on it, I'm just like, oh, God.
- 37:59Speaker 4: It starts out, season one and season two, Norm is
- 38:03Speaker 4: the sad one.
- 38:04Speaker 7: It's the sad one, yeah.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Because he loses his job.
- 38:07Speaker 7: And his wife, right?
- 38:08Speaker 1: But he just wanted to sit there. No, Vera's fine.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Don't worry. Vera's fine.
- 38:11Speaker 7: I thought they split for a while. They did.
- 38:14Speaker 2: They split.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Well, they almost start seeing other people. Yeah, because he
- 38:19Speaker 1: meets up. She kind of does, but he almost meets
- 38:21Speaker 1: that other girl, but he can't meet her.
- 38:22Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Because he's a good guy. Friend of the show, George Wendt.
- 38:26Speaker 1: He's an awesome dude.
- 38:28Speaker 7: Oh, is he? I'm glad to hear that.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he was very cool.
- 38:32Speaker 7: That's cool. There's certain people that you hope are really cool,
- 38:35Speaker 7: like Judd Hirsch. That's one of mine that I hope
- 38:38Speaker 7: is as cool and sweet as I think he is.
- 38:40Speaker 7: But I think I've heard that about him.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Oh, Lord, we can come back to that.
- 38:45Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 38:45Speaker 6: Is he not?
- 38:46Speaker 1: Well, no, I just saw him in something recently. And
- 38:50Speaker 1: so he can remind me. We'll get back to that.
- 38:52Speaker 1: But yeah, the yeah, George. Well, George is another one
- 38:56Speaker 1: of those that like, even as I get into it,
- 38:58Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, yeah, I have a ton of movies
- 39:00Speaker 1: I want to ask him about because for that run
- 39:02Speaker 1: and like, especially in the 80s, he turned up in
- 39:05Speaker 1: a ton of stuff. He wasn't. Yeah, he wasn't just Norm.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Like he wasn't just like that was the only thing
- 39:10Speaker 1: he's going to be known for forever, which. Unfortunately, maybe
- 39:13Speaker 1: the case now, but like he was just an up
- 39:15Speaker 1: and coming actor and like was in a ton of
- 39:18Speaker 1: stuff in the 80s. So he's got these like small
- 39:21Speaker 1: roles in all these different movies over the years.
- 39:24Speaker 7: Yeah, he is in a lot of things. That's true.
- 39:27Speaker 4: He's still in a lot of things.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he's still turning. up I think more so recently
- 39:32Speaker 1: for a while I didn't see him in stuff and
- 39:33Speaker 1: like these last couple of years I feel like he's
- 39:35Speaker 1: turned up in a lot more things again.
- 39:38Speaker 7: Oh my god okay so I watched a documentary Paul
- 39:41Speaker 7: fell asleep but he may have been awake for part
- 39:43Speaker 7: of it we sound like we watch television in shifts
- 39:47Speaker 7: which I guess we kind of do We pop culture
- 39:49Speaker 7: in shifts. It was a documentary about Galaxy Quest.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 1: All right.
- 39:58Speaker 7: Have you seen that? It was really good.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I have not seen the documentary.
- 40:03Speaker 7: It's worth watching.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Is it better than the movie?
- 40:07Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 40:07Speaker 7: What are you talking about? That's like a perfect movie.
- 40:10Speaker 1: That's what everyone tells me.
- 40:13Speaker 7: Why do you not like Galaxy Quest? We've never talked
- 40:15Speaker 7: about this. I don't think.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. I think I went so long
- 40:19Speaker 1: because when it first came out, I was just like, oh, Lord,
- 40:23Speaker 1: Tim Allen movie. No, thanks. So I didn't watch it
- 40:25Speaker 1: because it was mostly a Tim Allen movie in my mind.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I kind of want to see
- 40:30Speaker 1: Scoony Weaver. Alan Rickman's cool. But like, it still looks
- 40:33Speaker 1: kind of like a dumb Tim Allen movie. So I
- 40:35Speaker 1: skipped it. And then years went past, and nobody cared
- 40:39Speaker 1: at the time.
- 40:39Speaker 7: No, it's become a thing.
- 40:41Speaker 1: In years, it's become like, oh my God, it's the
- 40:44Speaker 1: greatest movie. So finally, at some point, I was just like,
- 40:47Speaker 1: all right, everybody's come around on this thing. And I
- 40:50Speaker 1: don't hate Tim Allen. I mean, he's great at Buzz Lightyear.
- 40:54Speaker 1: We all like him as Buzz Lightyear. We'll give him
- 40:56Speaker 1: a break. I finally watched it and I was just like, eh,
- 41:00Speaker 1: it's all right. Like, it's just not like, it doesn't
- 41:03Speaker 1: go to the level that people give it credit for.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Do I think it's a terrible movie?
- 41:08Speaker 7: No.
- 41:08Speaker 1: But do I think it's that level of great film
- 41:12Speaker 1: that everyone's now built their lives around? I'm like, eh,
- 41:16Speaker 1: it's fine. It's, It's making fun of the sci-fi culture
- 41:20Speaker 1: before that was happening. It's making fun of convention culture.
- 41:23Speaker 1: So it was definitely ahead of its time, but it's still.
- 41:26Speaker 7: But I think it did that with a lot of
- 41:28Speaker 7: humanity to it. You know what I mean? It's like
- 41:30Speaker 7: they really could have made fun of it, and yet
- 41:31Speaker 7: they made... They.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Made fun of it, but they didn't... Yeah, they didn't just.
- 41:37Speaker 4: They were, they were gentle about it.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:39Speaker 4: They were.
- 41:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:40Speaker 7: Like the joke wasn't on anybody. Like the joke was
- 41:42Speaker 7: really on people that aren't into that kind of stuff
- 41:44Speaker 7: because it turns out that like, you know, these nerdy
- 41:47Speaker 7: fans did save.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Anyway, the documentary was called never surrender.
- 41:55Speaker 1: So I kind of, yeah, I may be more interested
- 41:57Speaker 1: in the documentary.
- 41:58Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 41:58Speaker 7: I mean, and it is interesting because it sounds like
- 42:01Speaker 7: it's a perfect storm of how it came together. where
- 42:04Speaker 7: it was like these really disparate people that you would
- 42:06Speaker 7: never put in a movie. And like Tim Allen was
- 42:09Speaker 7: not who they wanted. Yeah.
- 42:11Speaker 4: It's actually, it's a good story about how movies almost
- 42:15Speaker 4: don't get made.
- 42:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 1: That's almost one of those.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:19Speaker 6: Right.
- 42:20Speaker 4: But it's a nice behind the scenes telling of that tale.
- 42:23Speaker 4: I mean, just bringing all those people together and the
- 42:26Speaker 4: lead and, and the, and the producers and Harold Ramis
- 42:30Speaker 4: was going to direct it. And then he didn't.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I feel like that would have made a difference too.
- 42:35Speaker 7: I think it would have been a different movie. I
- 42:38Speaker 7: don't think it would have been the same.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Movie, but he, but he, I mean, he kind of
- 42:42Speaker 1: got that vibe too. He had, he definitely had some misses,
- 42:45Speaker 1: especially as his career went on, but when he was on,
- 42:49Speaker 1: like he, he was a pretty solid director in general
- 42:53Speaker 1: and knew comedy better than most people. So he just
- 42:56Speaker 1: kind of, it was.
- 42:57Speaker 7: Supposed to be goofier and they changed it. And also
- 43:00Speaker 7: part of the problem in, in, Now I understand this
- 43:03Speaker 7: because this is the exact reason I didn't see it
- 43:05Speaker 7: was because they tried to market it as a kids
- 43:07Speaker 7: movie at first. And then they changed it to like
- 43:12Speaker 7: it's a Tim Allen movie kind of thing. I mean,
- 43:15Speaker 7: they didn't know what it was or what they had.
- 43:18Speaker 1: It would definitely make sense at the time. Like he
- 43:20Speaker 1: was huge. And even without his TV show, he built
- 43:24Speaker 1: a pretty solid audience. lead actor movie career, not great movies,
- 43:28Speaker 1: but he was lead actor in a lot of big
- 43:30Speaker 1: studio movies at that point.
- 43:32Speaker 7: But they were terrible.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah, they were terrible. Like they're all terrible.
- 43:36Speaker 7: His acting on that is way better, you know, and
- 43:39Speaker 7: also I don't think you could, you'd never have Buzz
- 43:41Speaker 7: Lightyear if you didn't have him in that role. He
- 43:46Speaker 7: never would have been Buzz Lightyear. Like there's no way.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Are you sure Buzz Lightyear didn't come first?
- 43:51Speaker 7: I thought Galaxy Quest came first.
- 43:53Speaker 1: What year is Galaxy Quest?
- 43:56Speaker 7: Paul Muller, roll that beautiful bean footage.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Hang on.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Galaxy Quest came out in 99.
- 44:06Speaker 1: That is way after Toy Story.
- 44:08Speaker 7: No.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Toy Story is early.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Toy Story came out in 95.
- 44:15Speaker 1: See, it was the first of the Pixar's. So, yeah.
- 44:19Speaker 6: All right.
- 44:21Speaker 7: Well, that's crazy because I thought he would give Tim
- 44:24Speaker 7: Allen a job.
- 44:25Speaker 1: But at that point, again, that was the major score
- 44:29Speaker 1: for them was Buzz Lightyear. I kind of still felt
- 44:32Speaker 1: the same way. I was like, Tom Hanks, yes. Tim Allen?
- 44:35Speaker 7: Tim Allen?
- 44:36Speaker 1: But then, again, it worked in his favor in that story,
- 44:41Speaker 1: especially in the first one, because in the first one,
- 44:44Speaker 1: he buys into his bullshit. He buys into the fact
- 44:47Speaker 1: that He is as self-important as Tim Allen probably thought
- 44:51Speaker 1: he was at some point in his career.
- 44:52Speaker 7: Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I honestly thought it was after
- 44:57Speaker 7: and that that role gave him. Anyway, you know, I
- 45:01Speaker 7: don't watch a lot of movies, Brian.
- 45:03Speaker 1: That's my story. But I did. You reminded me before
- 45:08Speaker 1: I forget your connection there. Uh, I did watch something
- 45:12Speaker 1: recently and this is how, you know, you're like an
- 45:15Speaker 1: old person. Cause I was like, no, that that's a
- 45:18Speaker 1: new movie, right? Like I swear to you, this movie
- 45:22Speaker 1: just came out like last year and it's like four
- 45:25Speaker 1: years old.
- 45:26Speaker 7: What was it?
- 45:27Speaker 1: Did you see the second independence day? Independence day colon resurgence. Yes.
- 45:36Speaker 7: Yes. But it was so forgettable.
- 45:39Speaker 1: That's part of the problem. But, I mean, does that
- 45:43Speaker 1: not seem like it was recent? I swear I thought
- 45:47Speaker 1: it was last year.
- 45:49Speaker 7: In my head, it came out the same year as
- 45:55Speaker 7: that first Alien reboot.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I mean....
- 46:00Speaker 7: Or Prometheus.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Prometheus?
- 46:01Speaker 7: Okay, that is.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Prometheus has been a while, so maybe that's the case. Maybe,
- 46:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I just, in my head... I just
- 46:08Speaker 1: saw it out in theaters and went, yeah, I'll probably
- 46:11Speaker 1: watch that someday at home. I'm certainly not going to
- 46:14Speaker 1: the theater to see that nonsense.
- 46:16Speaker 7: I mean, I don't know if it came out at
- 46:17Speaker 7: the same time, but in my head, those are very closely.
- 46:20Speaker 4: It came out in 2016.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 5: It is?
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it's got a Hemsworth in it.
- 46:27Speaker 7: It's got a Hemsworth. Which Hemsworth?
- 46:29Speaker 1: The other Hemsworth.
- 46:30Speaker 7: I mean, how many are there?
- 46:31Speaker 1: Five? I think there's three, but only two of them
- 46:34Speaker 1: are really acting.
- 46:35Speaker 7: No, there's a third one that's in stuff.
- 46:37Speaker 1: That's what I said. There's two that are acting, and
- 46:40Speaker 1: then there's that other one that just sort of shows
- 46:43Speaker 1: up when they need a third one.
- 46:45Speaker 7: But he could kind of be a Baldwin, like a
- 46:48Speaker 7: young Baldwin.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Nobody wants to be a Baldwin. Come on. Everybody would
- 46:52Speaker 1: be a Hemsworth. Nobody wants to be a Baldwin.
- 46:56Speaker 7: Nobody wants to be a Baldwin.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Including the Baldwins.
- 47:00Speaker 6: Oh, man.
- 47:04Speaker 1: So, yeah, that Independence Day, I was just not... So.
- 47:09Speaker 7: That's what they touch on. Alec Baldwin tried and tried
- 47:12Speaker 7: and tried to get that Tim Allen role in Galaxy Quest.
- 47:16Speaker 1: That seems like wrong casting.
- 47:20Speaker 7: I don't know. He's got some good comedy.
- 47:23Speaker 1: But just, I don't buy him as sci-fi... Anything, you know,
- 47:28Speaker 1: it's like it just I don't see them casting him
- 47:30Speaker 1: in the real movie that they're making fun of the
- 47:33Speaker 1: fact that these people get cast in. Like, I don't know.
- 47:35Speaker 1: It's just he can do comedy really well. But like,
- 47:38Speaker 1: I just don't see the sci fi geek connection to him.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I mean, Tim Allen's still a weird choice to me,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but Alec Baldwin seems even more off.
- 47:49Speaker 7: I kind of like I could have gone for that.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Hmm. Well, see if we can reboot it. We need
- 47:56Speaker 1: a really old Alec Baldwin.
- 47:58Speaker 7: No, that's one of those movies that I would freak
- 48:00Speaker 7: out about if people tried to remake. I'd be like,
- 48:02Speaker 7: you can't remake that.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I feel like maybe they can get it right this time.
- 48:07Speaker 7: Oh, Brian.
- 48:11Speaker 4: Why?
- 48:11Speaker 7: Why must you hate on Galaxy Quest?
- 48:13Speaker 1: Because people are too damn precious about it.
- 48:15Speaker 7: Well, you know, I think it's because we didn't realize
- 48:17Speaker 7: at the time what a good movie it was. Like,
- 48:19Speaker 7: everybody just let it go. It was like, what the?
- 48:22Speaker 7: I'm not going to go see that. And then you
- 48:24Speaker 7: happen to catch it on cable. Like all good, like,
- 48:27Speaker 7: cult movies, you know, that kind of build up a following.
- 48:30Speaker 7: You blow it off and then you accidentally catch it
- 48:33Speaker 7: because it's like the only thing on. And you're like,
- 48:35Speaker 7: how did I miss this? This is actually funny and good.
- 48:37Speaker 1: There are many movies I have discovered that way.
- 48:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 7: Definitely not that latest Rambo movie.
- 48:46Speaker 1: But definitely the latest Independence Day.
- 48:48Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I mean, if you can remember.
- 48:53Speaker 7: Any of it... I don't even remember what happened.
- 48:56Speaker 1: But that's... I mean, it's mostly the same things. I'm like,
- 48:59Speaker 1: what are you doing? Like, there are moments that are
- 49:03Speaker 1: slightly a new piece thrown in there. And I'm like, okay,
- 49:06Speaker 1: that part's cool. And then, like, ten minutes will go
- 49:10Speaker 1: by and they will be right back to doing the
- 49:11Speaker 1: same stuff that already happened in the other... Like, there's
- 49:14Speaker 1: only two of these movies. You didn't have to stray
- 49:17Speaker 1: too far to come up with new material. But, like...
- 49:19Speaker 1: they hit every beat from that first movie and did
- 49:23Speaker 1: it again almost exactly the same on a lot of
- 49:26Speaker 1: them i'm just like what are you doing i.
- 49:29Speaker 7: Think i remember jeff goldblum's hair was just grayer that
- 49:32Speaker 7: was like my huge takeaway from that.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Yeah i mean again but It did amaze me that
- 49:38Speaker 1: they got everybody to come back.
- 49:41Speaker 7: Well, with the exception of Will.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Smith, which we knew wasn't coming back.
- 49:44Speaker 7: Well, it's not going to happen.
- 49:46Speaker 1: If they were alive, like, and one of them wasn't.
- 49:50Speaker 1: One of them, I'm pretty sure they, like, either that
- 49:53Speaker 1: was the last thing they shot or they, like, digitally
- 49:56Speaker 1: helped the footage.
- 49:57Speaker 7: Oh, God, yeah, that had to be his last movie.
- 50:01Speaker 1: So there were a few there that I was just like, wait. Wait,
- 50:03Speaker 1: don't tell me.
- 50:07Speaker 7: It was Bill Pullman.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Yes, because you are nothing like each other. And I
- 50:15Speaker 1: don't understand that thing. So to me, that's the go to.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I mean, who doesn't remember our president, Bill Pullman?
- 50:22Speaker 7: That's the only way I can remember. Bill Pullman is
- 50:24Speaker 7: not Bill Paxton.
- 50:26Speaker 4: We need to put him on a three dollar bill
- 50:29Speaker 4: that can be arranged. I mean, Bill Pullman, the Pullman bill.
- 50:34Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, it is surprising they scraped together
- 50:38Speaker 1: enough money to bring all these people back. And sometimes
- 50:40Speaker 1: just for like a half scene.
- 50:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:44Speaker 1: One or two.
- 50:45Speaker 7: Yeah, like Vivica Fox is just like in there briefly,
- 50:47Speaker 7: isn't she?
- 50:47Speaker 1: They're like, can we get you to come back and
- 50:49Speaker 1: die real quick? Thanks. Thanks. Spoilers, I guess. But I
- 50:54Speaker 1: doubt anybody would give a rat's ass. If you didn't
- 50:57Speaker 1: watch it already, you probably do not care. All right.
- 51:01Speaker 4: It's a good. It's a good. a bar that you've
- 51:06Speaker 4: just set. So as bad as the Independence Day resurgence
- 51:12Speaker 4: movie was, it was not nearly as bad as Rambo
- 51:15Speaker 4: Last Blood.
- 51:17Speaker 1: See, I disagree. I would watch the Rambo movie again.
- 51:21Speaker 4: Really?
- 51:25Speaker 1: The Rambo at least has... Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Of the people that are attached to it, I feel
- 51:31Speaker 1: like the Rambo people are dedicated Rambo people. Independence Day
- 51:36Speaker 1: was a weird one-off that we all kind of enjoyed
- 51:39Speaker 1: at the time, but nobody really... reset their sci-fi love
- 51:43Speaker 1: around Independence Day. They were just like, that was fun.
- 51:47Speaker 1: I liked when our cities got blowed up. But other
- 51:50Speaker 1: than that, they went on with their lives and found
- 51:52Speaker 1: new sci-fi things. Whereas Rambo people are still Rambo people
- 51:57Speaker 1: to this day. So it's at least got a built-in
- 52:01Speaker 1: hardcore fan base that I'm like, I would worry more about.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I don't want to spoil this if you're that last
- 52:06Speaker 1: holdout Rambo guy that hadn't gotten around to the new
- 52:09Speaker 1: Rambo movie.
- 52:10Speaker 7: Because you're waiting for it to come out on VHS
- 52:15Speaker 7: what kind.
- 52:15Speaker 4: Of fan are you really I mean if you haven't seen.
- 52:18Speaker 1: It well because they don't leave the house and the
- 52:20Speaker 1: thing is it's not the recent.
- 52:21Speaker 11: I haven't left the house Brian I know you're one
- 52:24Speaker 11: of those crazy shut-ins like the hardcore Rambo people they're
- 52:32Speaker 11: somewhere in a basement watching it on VHS.
- 52:35Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying they need the VHS to come out.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Does Netflix still ship DVDs to your house?
- 52:45Speaker 1: I know they did. I think it was still an
- 52:48Speaker 1: option recently, so I haven't checked it.
- 52:52Speaker 6: In a long time.
- 52:52Speaker 4: You have to pay extra for it, but I didn't
- 52:54Speaker 4: know if that was still a service that they did.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Last time I looked when they did the price change,
- 53:00Speaker 1: it was still on there, I think.
- 53:02Speaker 7: Well, that's how everybody's getting their Rambo movie done.
- 53:42Speaker 6: Hungry?
- 53:43Speaker 3: Thirsty? The refreshment stand is open with everything to satisfy
- 53:48Speaker 3: your taste buds.
- 53:49Speaker 11: Here's the menu.
- 53:50Speaker 3: The hottest, freshest, crunchiest popcorn. Each kernel popped to its
- 53:54Speaker 3: fullest with that real movie time taste. Cold drinks. You'll
- 53:58Speaker 3: find your favorite ice cold, tasty and thirst quenching. And
- 54:02Speaker 3: hot dogs, hamburgers and candy too. Now a short intermission
- 54:06Speaker 3: so you'll have time to make your selection before the
- 54:09Speaker 3: show begins.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Even in the middle of all this craziness in the
- 54:20Speaker 1: world and i'm still stupidly for many people probably trying
- 54:24Speaker 1: to put together these these horror club exclusive episodes i
- 54:28Speaker 1: assume nobody cares and it's all gonna fall apart nobody's
- 54:31Speaker 1: gonna want these anymore yesterday we got a new patron
- 54:37Speaker 1: Somebody joined on in the middle of this insanity, and
- 54:39Speaker 1: I was like, you know, it's these things that make
- 54:43Speaker 1: me want to keep going. Thank you, mysterious patron. I'm
- 54:48Speaker 1: glad anyone out there is still listening in general, but
- 54:51Speaker 1: even more so when they actually support the show and
- 54:54Speaker 1: want to come on board and help us keep this
- 54:57Speaker 1: thing running on a good day, let alone in the weird,
- 55:01Speaker 1: uncertain times we're living in.
- 55:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Thank you to all our patrons, and in particular, any newcomers. Hey, welcome,
- 55:07Speaker 1: and tell your friends. We welcome all new people in.
- 55:11Speaker 1: It'll give you something to listen to as the world
- 55:13Speaker 1: falls apart.
- 55:14Speaker 6: Thank you, patrons.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I think you should go to moviemeltdown.com right now and
- 55:20Speaker 1: just click on the Patreon link and join up, and
- 55:23Speaker 1: then all these amazing horror-themed episodes we've got coming up
- 55:26Speaker 1: that you can listen to at the lowest level. I
- 55:29Speaker 1: try to keep it so everybody can join in. So, like,
- 55:33Speaker 1: you can throw more money at us if you want,
- 55:34Speaker 1: but mostly, as long as you, like, kick in a
- 55:38Speaker 1: couple of bucks, you can always listen to the horror
- 55:41Speaker 1: episodes and experience the horror with us. So, join the
- 55:46Speaker 1: club now.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:48Speaker 7: Don't you want to be cool?
- 55:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, really. Don't you want to be cool?
- 55:52Speaker 1: All the cool kids are doing it. Okay, wait. Just
- 55:55Speaker 1: by being a movie geek, you're already not a cool kid, and.
- 55:58Speaker 5: Neither are we.
- 55:58Speaker 1: So, all the geeks are doing it. Join the club now.
- 56:03Speaker 7: Cool's a relative term anyway.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Certainly is today. So, yeah. Get on board. Join right
- 56:11Speaker 1: now and you can partake in that and all of
- 56:14Speaker 1: our other ridiculous discussions about horror. What is the minimum again?
- 56:19Speaker 1: Two bucks.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Two dollars.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Two dollars.
- 56:21Speaker 7: Two dollars.
- 56:22Speaker 1: That's all you need to listen to the episodes. So,
- 56:24Speaker 1: I mean... It kind of keeps us alive. I was
- 56:27Speaker 1: discussing the horrible situation it's been to try to keep
- 56:31Speaker 1: things going earlier to these poor bastards. Like, yeah, it's
- 56:36Speaker 1: not just like, hey, I'm rich and I want your
- 56:38Speaker 1: money anyway. It really does keep the show going to
- 56:42Speaker 1: the level that people don't realize. It's kind of the
- 56:45Speaker 1: only way it's survived this last year and a half
- 56:47Speaker 1: or so since we started this. Yeah, so... It is
- 56:53Speaker 1: not only greatly appreciated, but it gives us kind of
- 56:56Speaker 1: a good way to come up with something specific to
- 56:59Speaker 1: put out there just for these people that we know
- 57:02Speaker 1: actually care enough to kick in. Yeah, you get a
- 57:04Speaker 1: lot of great stuff for that $ 2. That's what I'm saying.
- 57:07Speaker 1: I like being able to craft something for a very
- 57:09Speaker 1: special group. So you guys are super cool, and then
- 57:12Speaker 1: you get these awesome episodes. So one more reason, go
- 57:16Speaker 1: join up now. So go to our Patreon page, join
- 57:19Speaker 1: the Meltdown Club, become a Melketeer, you get cool stuff,
- 57:23Speaker 1: and you can help us keep the Meltdown rolling. Damn
- 57:27Speaker 1: the man. Save the Meltdown.
- 57:35Speaker 5: John Rambo.
- 57:37Speaker 1: A drifter.
- 57:38Speaker 5: Just passing through their town.
- 57:41Speaker 4: Warning! Headed north or south?
- 57:46Speaker 8: North.
- 57:49Speaker 4: Now jump in. I'll make sure you're heading the right direction.
- 57:52Speaker 2: You got someplace I can eat around here?
- 57:55Speaker 4: There's a diner about 30 miles up the highway.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Is there any law against me getting something here?
- 58:00Speaker 7: Yeah, me. I want you to book this gentleman for vagrancy,
- 58:05Speaker 7: resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon.
- 58:08Speaker 5: They knew he was innocent. Starting to dislike you.
- 58:12Speaker 6: A lot.
- 58:15Speaker 1: And they didn't give a damn.
- 58:19Speaker 2: It's okay, Warren.
- 58:20Speaker 4: Don't worry about the soap.
- 58:21Speaker 10: He's tough.
- 58:22Speaker 5: Just shave him. Drag.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Don't move.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I don't want you to catch your own throat.
- 58:27Speaker 5: John Rambo.
- 58:29Speaker 1: One man who's been pushed too far. You're finished!
- 58:32Speaker 8: You've gone as far as you're gonna go!
- 58:35Speaker 6: Head straight for the top.
- 58:37Speaker 4: Right on top.
- 58:39Speaker 2: There's no way out of here except through us.
- 58:41Speaker 5: He was hunted.
- 58:44Speaker 10: Trapped.
- 58:44Speaker 6: There he is!
- 58:45Speaker 8: On the cliff!
- 58:52Speaker 4: And forced to fight back.
- 58:55Speaker 8: Don't push it.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Don't push it or I'll give you a war you
- 59:01Speaker 1: won't believe.
- 59:04Speaker 3: Teasel, you and all your men couldn't handle him before.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Now what makes you think you can handle him now?
- 59:08Speaker 2: Because God knows what.
- 59:09Speaker 3: damage he's prepared to do. You don't seem to want
- 59:18Speaker 3: to accept the fact that you're dealing with an expert
- 59:20Speaker 3: in guerrilla warfare.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Are you telling me that 200 men against your boy
- 59:24Speaker 1: is a no-win situation for us?
- 59:26Speaker 3: You send that man, he don't forget one thing. and
- 59:30Speaker 3: good supply of body bags.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Sylvester Stallone.
- 59:36Speaker 5: This time he's fighting for his life.
- 59:40Speaker 10: First Blood.
- 59:43Speaker 2: Yes, there's an air about hot coffee that's hard to resist. Full-bodied,
- 59:49Speaker 2: refreshing hot coffee makes any time a pleasant interlude. Won't
- 59:54Speaker 2: you have some now?
- 59:56Speaker 7: So this is a total coffee side note. I miss
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: tiny brothers.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: They're still out there.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: You can go and wait six feet apart from everyone
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: else in your line and go get your cup. You
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: just can't have it there with the other people because
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: there's people and you're supposed to stay away from people.
- 1:00:16Speaker 7: I miss my peeps and my baristas.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I'm telling you, that's why. Your only option for the
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: moment is to go order some bags of beans. You know,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: go to moviemouthdown.com. Click on the Heine Brothers link. Go
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: order you some. They'll bring it to your house. And
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: that will make do until the world opens back up
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: and you can go have your somewhat normal experience.
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: You can, and you can talk to your favorite barista
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: and run into your favorite regulars and have.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: An awesome cup of coffee. You've got your mask on.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: They can't understand you. It's just, it's not the same now.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: We want to get back to the old way, hopefully.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: But in the meantime, you know, we're still supporting Honey Brothers.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Go get your coffee.
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: Yes, absolutely.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Keep them alive so we can return to the old
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: way somewhere down the line.
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: My favorite way, the Heine brothers way.
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: George went here.
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: You're listening to movie meltdown.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: Part of your problem.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: You know, you haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: And now on with the show.
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: You know what we haven't watched speaking of netflix and
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: i don't know why this makes me think of it
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: we've watched no contagious films no contagion no virus no.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: See this is the thing i want to call out
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: like every streaming service for It's annoying. They will. And
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: like to what, what, what's the upside of this? And
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: I guess to all the people that jumped on them, like,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: because they immediately started throwing those on the top of
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: the list or acquiring them and throwing them at the
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: top of the list. And like, cause at first, like I'm,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I'm sure the most recent contagion might've already been there,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: you know, but like the week that everybody started staying
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: home from work, I turned on my Netflix and there
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: was Outbreak. And I'm like, I know Outbreak wasn't already
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: sitting there. You went, went how much for Outbreak and
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: you put it on your streaming service. But then like
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: on the like Amazon, which I normally don't even worry
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: about the Amazon Prime, but like, again, there's some sort
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: of promo going on now. So I was looking at
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: what was on there. There's one called Flu. Yeah. And
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I was like, I was like, did they just make
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: this in the last two weeks and throw it up
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: real quick?
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: Please tell me that it's somebody just walking around sneezing
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: and going, I need to go home and take a nap.
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: I don't feel really good. Oh man, I got my
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: flu shot.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I followed up enough to go, what year did this
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: come out? Did they just make this? It's 2013. So
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: they went and dug up flu just to put it
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: out for people sitting at home that need to be
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: thrown into a frenzy even more than they already are.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I'm like, what is wrong with you streaming services? Just
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: give us happy bullshit to watch. So we don't have
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: to sit around getting more crazy than the world actually
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: makes us.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: That's funny.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: It's a Korean film, isn't it? I, I just saw
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the cover art, which didn't really, it just was somebody
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: sneezing or something.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Can we talk about this?
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: Because Paul and I were talking about, uh, What was that?
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: The Meg?
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: So the Meg had all kinds of like, you could
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: tell it was like a Chinese movie, right? Like all
- 1:04:18Speaker 7: the money.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I think it was a, yeah. Part of the production
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: was involved in China. Yeah.
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: But it, I mean, it was, you can tell it
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: was incredibly funded by that. So we saw another trailer
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: for something and Paul and I were like, I don't
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: know what this is, but I know that it's Chinese
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: just by the way it's filmed.
- 1:04:36Speaker 10: And I don't mean that in anything because of this
- 1:04:39Speaker 10: whole virus or whatever, but I was just like, it's
- 1:04:44Speaker 10: so interesting that you can tell where things shift and
- 1:04:47Speaker 10: are made and who's backing it once you see it.
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: You can tell an Eastern European made action film. You
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: know what I mean?
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: You can definitely tell those. The Any of the Asian
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: influence is usually just because there's suddenly Asian actors there.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: We don't bother to put them in American movies because
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: we're jackass Americans.
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: But there's also a way that they're like filmed and
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: it's kind of like that Eastern European thing. So I
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: don't know if they're like sharing cinematographers or what, but
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: it's just funny because you can start to identify like
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: where you think the movie was made. Like that seems
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: like it was made in Eastern Europe. That has to be.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: That's only because they're probably killing people in the special
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: effects and whatever stunts they're doing. Because I think they
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: just off guys in Eastern Europe somewhere now. And they're
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: just like, well, we got the shot. Good enough. Get
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: us a new stuntman.
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: You were supposed to be a stuntman, but we didn't
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: really tell you what that meant.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: Actually, you were a third lead, but you're dead now.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: So we'll get a new stuntman to take your place.
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: No, but I mean, do you think that that's true?
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: Like you can kind of start to tell like the
- 1:05:50Speaker 7: regions where movies are made. And it's not about who's
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: in it or what it is. There's a look to
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: different regions in movies.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I mean, I guess where you're shooting would definitely start
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: to have a look. But stylistically, I would hope, would
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: change from one director and cinematographer.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: But I don't think it does. I mean, that's what's
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: interesting to me. I think it's like, you know, we
- 1:06:16Speaker 7: all grew up with things that we love about movies
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: and then... you know, whatever that is, you take that
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: and that person kind of makes it happen in their country.
- 1:06:26Speaker 7: And that becomes the thing, you know, I mean, it's
- 1:06:29Speaker 7: like when we were growing up, you could tell an
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: Italian made film or a European film. And it wasn't
- 1:06:34Speaker 7: because it had a European actor.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: It was like the way they were talking some crazy language.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I didn't know.
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: No, it's the way that things are.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: I know what you're saying. It's like the, the aesthetic
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: choices that they make are different. Yeah. because their touchstones
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: are different for their culture.
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: Or they pick a certain touchstone and run with it,
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: and then it becomes like that language.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: There definitely was in the older eras. I mean, Italian
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: films were a very specific thing, and they had their
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: own group of people making them. Same thing with French films.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: What to me seems weird is that it would still
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: be going on now, just because... we all watch whatever
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the hell we want. And even those that have grown
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: up on it, you would think even people in other countries,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: a huge majority of their influences would be what's getting
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: made in Hollywood. So like, it seems like that would
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: water down a lot of these like specific looks and
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: you wouldn't have as distinct.
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: I don't, I don't think so. I think it's still
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: filtered through what one person loved about it. So they
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: ran with that and it became like, this is the
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: Romanian way to shoot an action scene. You know, like
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: for lack of a better way to describe.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: It.
- 1:07:47Speaker 10: No!
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: That was the selling point on that one for a
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: long time. Maybe that's changed now, but in the 90s.
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: Oh my gosh.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: The difference is that, you know, you can, if you've
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: got a decent camera, which you can get for next
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: to nothing these days, relatively speaking, you know, you can
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: shoot these as long as you've got the editing chops. And,
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: you know, the difference is the money that they spend
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: on actors is, And, you know, and the creative choices
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: that they make might be different. But to Brian's point,
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: they are kind of all molded from the same sort
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: of cloud idea, you know. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:08:28Speaker 7: But that's what's fascinating. You can take the most generic
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: thing and yet it still feels like there's a region
- 1:08:34Speaker 7: or something. You know, it's got a, like a good wine,
- 1:08:37Speaker 7: it's got a terroir about it, right?
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: You know, a good example would be the movie Skyscraper
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: with The Rock. You know, you're watching it and you're like, well, okay, yeah.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: But I can tell that this movie was made in
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: another country. Was it? It was literally made in another country,
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: but it was also... produced by another country.
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying? I'm not making any judgment call.
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: I'm just saying there's a feel to it.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: I mean, there definitely used to be. That's what I'm
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: saying is like, I would feel like you would start
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: to lose that now just because everything streams around the world.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: But like back in the earlier days, like everything was
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: so isolated that like that little group of Italian filmmakers
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: were the only ones working in Italy and the same thing.
- 1:09:28Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:09:28Speaker 7: You had Fellini and everybody liked Fellini.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Everybody.
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: The Fellini stuff like defined that entire country's look for,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: you know, generations.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: So.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: But by now, you would think everything would just be
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: so cross-pollinated that everybody would just kind of be a
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: big mess. You would think you would lose all our
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: distinct style anymore.
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: I'm not saying it's obvious. I mean, I think there's
- 1:09:54Speaker 7: some things that are really subtle. If you look at
- 1:09:57Speaker 7: the way the Transformer movies have changed, and this is
- 1:10:00Speaker 7: such a weird example.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Do I have to?
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: Not Transporter. Transporter, not Transformer.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Okay, that's... Well, those always felt... Are we talking even
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: the new ones that are still getting made even though
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Jason Statham's not involved? Because they're still making them, aren't they?
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:20Speaker 7: I don't know how many. I think I've only caught
- 1:10:21Speaker 7: one of those. But like it starts off and it's
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: definitely one thing and it has a quality to it
- 1:10:28Speaker 7: that is like a particular way. And then it starts
- 1:10:31Speaker 7: to become more and more like a sci-fi film, right?
- 1:10:35Speaker 7: Like it gets cheaper. and cheaper and weirder. And like,
- 1:10:39Speaker 7: it becomes this like cookie cutter thing where it's like
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: somebody taking the original and just trying to like repeat
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: that stuff. And then you watch the actors change to
- 1:10:52Speaker 7: more like, I don't know this person. Who are these people?
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I mean, basically, it's the old analogy of you're making
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: a copy of a copy.
- 1:11:01Speaker 7: It's a copy of a copy of a copy.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: It's not going to be near as good. And then
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: the next time you make another copy of that copy,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: it gets worse and worse. So that's why I'm like,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: if you squint real hard, does this guy kind of
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: look like Jason Statham? His face is all blurry now.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I can't make him out.
- 1:11:17Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, we were talking about like
- 1:11:20Speaker 7: Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Like the first,
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: the Lord of the Rings films were, looked so much
- 1:11:25Speaker 7: more expensive in my eyes than, like, the Hobbit movies.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I guess that's weird frame rate. That factors in, too,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: depending on how you saw it, I guess.
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: Well, no.
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: I mean, what do you think? You don't think so?
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Those are overwhelming to me. I don't even remember.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: In what way?
- 1:11:47Speaker 10: If I.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I don't even remember if I got into The Hobbit.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: And as a kid, I loved that story, and I
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: loved the animated version, and all of that stuff. But
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: by the time that series came out, I was just like, ah,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I've seen it. I've seen 19 hours of Lord of
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: the Rings. I get it. You've covered it already. Do
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: we need one, let alone three more movies, kind of
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: hitting the same moment, more or less, in the same universe, literally,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: in the same world?
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: Yeah. There's also a technological difference that happened between the
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. I mean,
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: there was 10 years difference. Yes, but Lord.
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: Of the Rings still looked better.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: That's the thing. When people are way more endeared to
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the Lord of the Rings trilogy, who is their go-to
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: is the Hobbit trilogy. Between the two, how many people
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: are just like, I just really love what they're doing
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: in the Hobbit movies, you know, whereas people still love
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: the Lord of the Rings stuff.
- 1:12:50Speaker 7: I'm waiting for the Silmarillion.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Didn't we already get that?
- 1:12:55Speaker 7: No! God, no Melkor?
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Do we need more Middle Earth, really? Do we?
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: In many ways, Melkor has never left us, really.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: You know, all I know is if I ever have
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: a horse, I'm going to name it Shadowfax. Shadowfax. And
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: I'll say it like that. Shadow Fox.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: Shadow Fox.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Shadow Fox.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm with you, Brian. I, you know, prefer the
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: animated Rankin and Bass.
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: I love that as a kid.
- 1:13:24Speaker 7: Those were, like, magical when they came on. I mean,
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: you were like, oh, my God, I can't believe I'm
- 1:13:28Speaker 7: allowed to watch this. I'm pretty sure my Catholic family
- 1:13:31Speaker 7: thinks this is devil worship.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Well, and that's one of those I, as a, and
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: maybe it's just what I happen to see, but, like,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: loved The Hobbit more Eventually saw the Return of the
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: King and loved that one. What little I remember of
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: that Lord of the Rings, I wanted nothing to do with.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: And it's funny that they handed it over.
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: The Ralph Bakshi one?
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, they handed it over to Bakshi and he's just
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: like doing his own weird thing.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I like that.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: It so doesn't match the other parts of the story.
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: No, no, no, I remember The Hobbit and I loved
- 1:14:03Speaker 7: The Hobbit. I don't remember the Bakshi story.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: Lord of the rings but i remember it was its
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: own thing for sure return of the.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: King comes back and i think is the same animation
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: and like the same people were involved so like the
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: book the bookends of it are perfect if you like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: that type of you know animation and it's a very
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: simplified version of the story but like i love those
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: two as a kid but yeah like even as a
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: kid i was like what what's what's going on with
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: this like what what is this everything looks weird because
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I didn't know what the hell rotoscope was. But now
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: when I go back and watch those scenes, I'm like,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: this rotoscope is fucking crazy. It's amazing that it kind
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: of worked. I'm still fascinated by the process, but like,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: it's so weird that you're even changing up the style
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: of filming in the middle of this story. Essentially, if
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you're just following the books along, you know, if you're
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: following that arc of the story, this is the midpoint
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: of it. And what the hell are we doing here?
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Why is it?
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: The only way they, they could have made it. Like,
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: I feel like there were a lot of, like, if
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: you read the book, okay. And, and you look at the,
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: you know, the, the breadth of the Lord of the
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: Rings movie franchise, right. The only way that they could
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: have satisfied the hardcore fans is to make a 10
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: hour long movie.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Well, they did essentially by the time that came out,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: those are like easily three hours a piece. That's pretty
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: damn close.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: They made a nine hour. See, I, I'm one of
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: the few that they left out.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: I'm and I'm, if there comes a point and that's
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: the thing, people want to be super hardcore about, Oh, the,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: but it needs to be like the book, the book
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: so much better. And I'm not just saying about that.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I'm talking about people that want to bad mouth movies
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: and love books, whatever. That's your thing. But I'm like,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: they need to be different for a reason. And I
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: feel like there needs to be, you can't sit there
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: and just watch. And I don't know. Now people marathon everything.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: So maybe they want that. But to me, like there's
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: so many movies that I'm like, this is too long.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Why are we watching? And I feel like that even
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: within the, the Lord of the Rings, I'm like, I
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: don't know that I ever want to go back and
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: watch two towers. Cause it's the middle portion that drags on.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: And I'm like, I want the beginning. I want the end.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: But like that whole middle movie, I'm just like, what,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: why are we wandering?
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: We were talking about this the other day. They never
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: show the first one ever because it's the slowest paced.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Movie, but it's the one you're getting the band together.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Like everything. Yeah.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: It's like, that's the one I would probably return to
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: the most.
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: Which, which is the one where they show the hobbits
- 1:16:45Speaker 7: and they all have a tickle fight with pillows in.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Rivendell I mean that's probably all of them there's things
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: going on with Sam and you know we're all okay
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: with the weird feelings Sam has it's.
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: Fine that sounds like a strange porn you might have.
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: But what I'm saying is like that that movie at
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: that point becomes tedious and I'm like why is this
- 1:17:09Speaker 7: here what's going on oh my god how many endings
- 1:17:13Speaker 7: to this are there like I'm watching this and it's
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: like I thought.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: That was Return of the King. Isn't that with 14 endings?
- 1:17:21Speaker 7: I think so. Is that the end? Return of the King?
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: But at least it has amazing battles, which you need
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: in Return of the King. So they at least made
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: good on the capping it off with all the fighting
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: and extra adding in giant birds. All the stuff we need.
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: I guess my point was that I was trying to make,
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: and it sort of goes back to what you were
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: saying about how you know, they already made a nine
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: hour movie basically with the director's cuts and we string
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: it all together. But because people binge things now, you know, today,
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: if they were to make it a day, it would
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: make more sense as a series.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: It probably will. And it's one of those, I, if
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: you would have asked me 10 years ago, would they
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: remake this? I would think, Oh God, no, they'd never
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: want to try.
- 1:18:07Speaker 7: But I would say yes now.
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: In the world we live in now in the post
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: game of Thrones world we live in now people would
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: line up to that. And only a handful of like
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: probably hardcore book people would have a problem with it.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: I think people who are fans of the movie be like, no,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I could watch a series version of that. And I,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: I don't know, like I, I feel like you give
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: it a few more years, they probably could do that
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and will do that. And nobody will even, again, a.
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: Handful of people will complain. They could finally include Tom
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: Bombadil and I'll be happy. Will you really? Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: That was the only thing I missed.
- 1:18:45Speaker 7: I didn't like Tom Bombadil.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: Oh, I thought it was great. Minus the song.
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: Oh, the songs. That's why I skipped it. I was like, no,
- 1:18:53Speaker 7: I can't read this.
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: What?
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: No.
- 1:18:56Speaker 7: So this is the other thing we were talking about,
- 1:18:59Speaker 7: that Bakshi version of that. I can't remember how close
- 1:19:05Speaker 7: to that being released Heavy Metal came out. But I
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: was young enough that I then saw Heavy Metal and
- 1:19:13Speaker 7: I was like, what is this? I thought this was
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: like Lord of the Rings.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. Heavy Metal has a place in
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: every geek's heart. Even if you watch it now and
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: realize this isn't a great movie but like the things
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: that it does are so amazing when you're a little
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: kid especially when you never you know kids now see
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: whatever but like there was nothing like that when we're
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: kids so like it was earth shattering at that oh
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: like whoa whoa what am i watching what the hell
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: yeah yeah but.
- 1:19:47Speaker 7: That's what i'm saying like i i went into it
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: thinking like i guess it's like lord of the rings
- 1:19:53Speaker 7: i don't know same guy whatever i don't know somebody
- 1:19:55Speaker 7: said it's animated and i was like what is this
- 1:19:58Speaker 7: But now I can't separate that from Thundar the Barbarian.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: Oh, well, you're lucky then. The more Thundar you have
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: in your life, the better off you are.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: I know. All of that came out right around the
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: same time. I mean, that's late 70s, early 80s.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Yep. And this explains why I'm so messed up. Because
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: every week I was sitting there having my cereal, watching
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: my Thundar.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: I like Thundar.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Ookla? Ookla the Barbarian. I always liked Ookla's horse. I
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: always liked that Ookla also had a giant monster-like horse
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: to match his giant monster-like form.
- 1:20:37Speaker 7: But wait a minute, didn't they ride lizards? I thought
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: they all had horses. Ookla had the horse that was...
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: Were they all? Oh my god, Brian, have we ever
- 1:20:47Speaker 7: talked about Battle of the Planets?
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: I don't know that we have, but alright. Where are
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: we going with this?
- 1:20:56Speaker 7: I don't know. There were some episodes of that that
- 1:20:59Speaker 7: were so good and so creepy and awesome that they're
- 1:21:02Speaker 7: like burned into my brain. One of which was when
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: Princess gets eaten by the giant magnolia flowers.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: You sure you just weren't watching Magnolia? Was Tom Cruise
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: in this?
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: I hate that guy.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: Were you tripping on acid during this?
- 1:21:19Speaker 7: You don't remember it? It was like a two episode
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: thing and Princess gets eaten by this giant flower that
- 1:21:23Speaker 7: looks like a magnolia flower.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: I don't recall that one, but I mean, I bet
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: if I saw it again, I might remember.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:21:31Speaker 7: So that episode and then the episode where they were
- 1:21:33Speaker 7: at the like robot horse races. Do you not remember these?
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: I remember the robot horse races.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I remember very little of the specifics of it. I
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: remember watching it like every day I'd come home.
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: I remember specifics.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: But like I haven't revisited it. So everything is just
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: weird images. Like there's one. in particular where Princess has
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: a second skin. Do you remember this? Am I delusional?
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: Was I making this? She like pulls at her arm
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: and like this weird extra skin like pops up that's
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: like some sort of extra protection that for some reason
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: only like works because she's the girl of the group.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: Like it wouldn't work on guys.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: So like she has this weird- Oh, maybe I thought
- 1:22:16Speaker 7: it was just her uniform.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: But it was some sort of like armor more or
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: less that was like protecting her in this episode. Maybe
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I'm delusional, but like that's a weird one that's attached.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: I don't know. A lot of the specifics are gone,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: but there's.
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: There was a lot of weird creepiness in that. And
- 1:22:35Speaker 7: I didn't care about, you know, turn into the fiery phoenix.
- 1:22:38Speaker 7: Like I never cared about the final like thing, but
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: like there were so many weird, creepy stories in some
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: of them.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: I mean, I like the gang hanging out with them.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: I still feel like you couldn't make Keop today.
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: You couldn't.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I feel like he's crossing a few lines.
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: But I guess it was nice that they were inclusive
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: for everybody. Kiyop was a little special and they brought
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: him on. They were fine with it.
- 1:23:06Speaker 7: And he was a superhero. Maybe they were ahead of
- 1:23:08Speaker 7: the time.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: But yeah, they still did what every cartoon did was
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: what if we had somebody that just eats all the time?
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: We'll call him Tiny. It'll be funny.
- 1:23:19Speaker 7: We'll call him Tiny. It'll be hilarious.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: That was something that years ago occurred to me. If
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: you think of all the old school classic cartoons, there
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: was almost always a character that their only defining thing
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: was that they were always eating or hungry or talking
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: about wanting food. There's so many cartoons that have that
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: as a character. Yeah.
- 1:23:42Speaker 7: The reality is.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: Kind of like a spaghetti western version, you know?
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess.
- 1:23:47Speaker 7: Yeah!
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: But I'm just thinking, and now look at the country
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: we live in with, like, 60% obesity. I'm like, I
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: wonder why!
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: They might be the healthiest because they're eating at regular intervals.
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: We don't know that he was, like, eating too much.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: He just always had a giant submarine sandwich in his hand,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: in my head.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: I don't know if that's... He could have a thyroid issue.
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: Let's not make fun of him.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Don't shame him. That's another one of those that I
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: was like, you can't really do that now. You're making
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: fun of his weight. You're fat shaming him. You're getting
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: into the science of his eating disorder. You can't have
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: that anymore.
- 1:24:28Speaker 7: You can't fat shame Tiny. He could put on a
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: thong and dance across the stage and everybody would love
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: him because he's body positive.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: Everybody would have to applaud Tiny. his fun activities.
- 1:24:38Speaker 7: I love that you're so body positive, tiny.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: It's yeah. It's just a weird world that allowed all
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: of the things that we grew up watching to happen.
- 1:24:48Speaker 7: Yeah. And now it's like, Oh God. I mean, even
- 1:24:51Speaker 7: the office, which I always go back to.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Wait, Gina, before you get away from battle of the planets,
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: did you know that they're possibly making the live action
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: version of that?
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: I think they've been talking about that for years.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I thought they've made several other animated updated versions over there.
- 1:25:08Speaker 7: Yeah, they have. And they're not as good.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I just haven't gotten into.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: This would be a live action thing that they required
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: the rights for. But who knows if they'll actually make it.
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: So you could put all three of the.
- 1:25:24Speaker 7: Who were the Australian actors? The Hemsworths?
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: You're putting all of them in?
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: You just put all three of them in there.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: I think that should be our game for maybe if
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: we ever see each other in the real world again.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: In the meantime, we should work on casting for our
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: version of the live action Battle of the Planets movie.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: That's a great idea.
- 1:25:44Speaker 7: I'm writing that down.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: Which one plays Tiny?
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: We're going to have to work on this. I feel
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: like there's a lot of specifics of pinning down these, so...
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: I think we've got to work it out for us is.
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: What I'm saying. Jason and what's his name? Mark.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Mark.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: Covered.
- 1:26:04Speaker 7: Do we?
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: Do we?
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Or are you just sticking with the Liams?
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: I think we stick with the Liams. Let's go with
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: the Liams.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: The Hemsworths.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: The Hemsworths and the other Liam Hemsworth.
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: I think that you could pull off Tiny. Or Keop.
- 1:26:21Speaker 7: But Keop would be like. Not that I'm equating the two,
- 1:26:26Speaker 7: but Key Up could be like some very....
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: Well, now he would be like the... Yeah, he'd be
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: on the spectrum.
- 1:26:35Speaker 7: He'd be on the spectrum.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: But we'd be very positive about him being on the spectrum.
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: I mean, he has a lot to contribute.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: He just can't do it in the North.
- 1:26:43Speaker 7: He has to work... earmuffs the whole time.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: I mean, I make that comment a lot lately because
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: I actually have a kid. I'm related to a kid
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: on the spectrum and I watch him all the time
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: and I'm starting to see other people out there. So
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: it's like I do start to make these analogies and
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: make connections between things. So it is one of those
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: that I can see that being the way we process
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: the old version of what Keop was versus how we
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: would have him now.
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: And not that I'm saying that is like what Keop
- 1:27:17Speaker 7: was supposed to portray, but I think if you could
- 1:27:19Speaker 7: have a good case for somebody that is very on
- 1:27:23Speaker 7: the spectrum, that would be a great role.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: It maybe was that they didn't even know that's what
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: they were doing.
- 1:27:29Speaker 7: That that's what they were doing.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: It didn't even exist in that form then.
- 1:27:31Speaker 7: No, I'm with you. I mean, I have an aunt
- 1:27:33Speaker 7: that I think is on the spectrum and she was
- 1:27:35Speaker 7: born like in the 50s, you know, like, but that.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Wasn't an identifiable... Which is unusual.
- 1:27:39Speaker 7: Well....
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: And it is one of those things I question because
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: there are so many kids now and I'm like, I
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: don't remember there being that.
- 1:27:49Speaker 7: I think there was, but I think that they were
- 1:27:51Speaker 7: treated differently.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Everybody was misdiagnosed and treated differently and put different places maybe,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: but like.
- 1:27:57Speaker 7: They didn't really address what it was.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I still feel like it's way more now. So I'm just,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't buy into the crazy theory
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: people not to, again, to, the people that have built
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: their own little life around their crazy theories. I will
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: also throw up questions when I feel like they're necessary.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: And I'm like, why is that? Like I even ask
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: people that, you know, deal with this on a day.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: I'm like, but why this? And how about that? So, yeah,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: It's a weird world.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 1:28:27Speaker 7: There's a lot of things and we've tried to speed
- 1:28:29Speaker 7: up a lot of things, you know, I don't know.
- 1:28:34Speaker 7: I mean, I guess that whole thing is if Paul
- 1:28:36Speaker 7: and I had a child and I had to get
- 1:28:38Speaker 7: them vaccinated, I would take my sweet time at getting
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: it done. They would get vaccinated, but it would not
- 1:28:45Speaker 7: be as quick as is done now.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: You got to go get your shots.
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: As opposed to me.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: You got to get your shot.
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: It's nice not to have Paulie. I would just I
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: would be the first one in line.
- 1:29:00Speaker 7: Paul would be like, give it to them.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: Give them all.
- 1:29:01Speaker 7: Give them all right now.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: This is one of the many reasons it's best to
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: just not have children. I keep trying to tell people that.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Mostly people who already have kids and it's too late
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: for them.
- 1:29:11Speaker 7: You're like, are you sure you don't want to consider
- 1:29:13Speaker 7: a late-term abortion for your 8-year-old?
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: I know this kid's 10 already, but is it too
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: late to not have him?
- 1:29:22Speaker 7: Oh God, that's horrible.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Nobody thinks that's entertaining. Not even that version of it.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Just when I'm just like, all the time they'll be
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: complaining about some dumb thing their kid did. And I'm like.
- 1:29:31Speaker 7: You'd be like, dude, you're the one that thought it
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: was a good idea.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I'm always like, is it too late to rethink this
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: whole family thing? I know you have three children and all,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: but really, is it too late to think it through
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: one more time?
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Which is, I'm pretty sure what the father of the,
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: the girl in Rambo, The Last Blood was thinking the
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: whole time.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: To bring it full circle.
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: Full circle.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: Rambo, don't let your kid go to Mexico and get.
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: Is that a song? Rambo don't let your kid go
- 1:30:06Speaker 7: to Mexico.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: I mean you can write that if you'd like I'd like.
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: Can we perform it we'll perform it on our next meeting.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: You watch yeah you work on that we're gonna work
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: on the casting and then you work on your song
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: and we can make that if you want it to
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: be the opening or the closing you decide where you'd
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: like to work it in but you don't.
- 1:30:26Speaker 7: Let your not kid go to Mexico.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Surrogate child thank you what surrogate child, you.
- 1:30:33Speaker 7: Know, surrogate child. Didn't rhyme. Not child.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: This is your, this is your, this is what we're
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: saddling you with between now and then. So I think
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: for now we've covered a lot. Oh man, this is
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: too fun. Is there anything else you need to pass
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: along this round?
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: Well, we missed this.
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: See, we were, we were planning that that's right before
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: the lockdown. We were planning our next session. And then
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: the walls came down and you, you went and locked
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: the giant bolt door and you were like, no, stay
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: away from me.
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: You disease bastard.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: I think as a direct quote, you said to me,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: you know, I did fine, whatever.
- 1:31:17Speaker 7: And then I said, wait, what, what's a shiny object.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: And now here we are.
- 1:31:21Speaker 7: So this is folks to look out for. And that aunt.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: I'm infecting all kinds of people on a daily basis.
- 1:31:32Speaker 7: It's fine. So how are you not working from home?
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: You could work from home.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: You tell them that.
- 1:31:37Speaker 7: They're idiots.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 1:31:41Speaker 7: Before we hang up, here's my other thing that I
- 1:31:44Speaker 7: love that's happened with all this. So nobody really gives
- 1:31:48Speaker 7: a shit about celebrities at the moment or quite as
- 1:31:51Speaker 7: much as they did.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Or the other version is we've all just become on
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: the same level playing field. So all of the idiots
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: that you work with are on Zoom. Hey, guess what?
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: So is every celebrity. We're all just some sort of
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: weirdo on YouTube trying to pass the time. And that's
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: true of the kid down the block and this A-list
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: celebrity who has nothing else to do.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: All day long.
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: Yeah, but I think that people see them and think
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: like i don't give a shit what you think you're
- 1:32:24Speaker 7: living in some like incredible house it's like tucked away
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: and you have people to go get your groceries and
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: then you can burn them when they come back the
- 1:32:33Speaker 7: people you have a you have a place to burn
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: them in once the people that go to get your
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: food come back you can like not have to deal
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: with them ever again i.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Feel like maybe this is just you i wasn't thinking
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: any of these things i still think many celebrities are
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: very cool Not all, I don't give anyone a pass,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: but like those that have proven to be cool, I'm
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: still on board with. So I'm not.
- 1:32:56Speaker 7: Talking about the ones that are actually cool. I'm talking
- 1:32:59Speaker 7: about bullshit things where it's like, whoever was on the
- 1:33:03Speaker 7: last episode or whatever, the last season of, uh, the bachelor, like.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: Those aren't celebrities anyway.
- 1:33:11Speaker 7: But they are.
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: They are.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: They aren't in my mind because they didn't do anything.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: They're on a dumb reality TV show.
- 1:33:17Speaker 7: But that's what a celebrity is now. It's not a
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: celebrity is somebody that does something. You don't have to
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: do anything to be a celebrity.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: That's just the 15 minutes bullshit. I don't buy into that.
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: It still counts.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's accurate. It is what people are striving for.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: But I still base it on... Did you actually... do
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: anything other than show up to this dumb reality tv
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: show that's rolling all the time and they edit around
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: and make a fake story around what was actually going
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: on because it's still not reality nothing about this is
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: even close to reality it's just badly put together television but.
- 1:33:54Speaker 7: People buy into that they.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Eat tons of them do and more like i know
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: plenty of people that are into that like i don't
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: I don't damn anyone who watches it. I'm just like,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I don't get it. I don't understand the appeal. I judge.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: I mean, I do, but I'm just like, that's fine.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not going to let people tell me
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: what I'm supposed to like. So I'm like, you can
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: like it if you want to. I think it's terrible.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: But I also know it's running the industry like before
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: the shutdown, like that's still where half the people working
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: in the industry were making their money was on a
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: terrible reality show because those were the things getting greenlit.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: But that's the world we're in now.
- 1:34:34Speaker 7: It's like we used to have to sit through people
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: that loved soap operas, right? So there was Soap Opera Digest.
- 1:34:43Speaker 7: There was, you know, all these things about soap operas.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: You had a subscription to these, didn't you?
- 1:34:48Speaker 7: No, my aunt did. That's on the spectrum. So she
- 1:34:52Speaker 7: would watch these things and my mom would watch Dallas
- 1:34:55Speaker 7: and I actually, and Falcon Crest. And I loved those
- 1:34:58Speaker 7: growing up. I was like, this is so ridiculous. This
- 1:35:02Speaker 7: is great. But it's like, so meta, you know, it's
- 1:35:05Speaker 7: like they took it to the, the, this honed in
- 1:35:08Speaker 7: degree where it's like, they've made people act worse than
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: they ever acted on dynasty. So you watch dynasty or
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: Falcon crest or, or, you know, any of those old
- 1:35:20Speaker 7: school nighttime soap operas. And you're like, this is really
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: tame and lame.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: Well, see, I think there's an art to those. And
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: that's why I think I appreciate, especially like the nighttime.
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: I didn't, well, there was one or two. I attempt
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: trying to watch the daytime when I was skipping school
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: or whatever. But for the most part, like I never
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: paid attention to those.
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: I didn't, but I got the nighttime stuff. Like I
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: was in school during the daytime, but I caught the
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: nighttime things. And I kind of developed this weird, ironic
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: love of Dallas. Even at the time I was like,
- 1:35:50Speaker 7: This is ridiculous.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: But I think they know it. And even more so now,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: I think when they're creating one of those, like they
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: know the bar is set higher for something that's dialed
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: up that much.
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: But isn't it so, but the thing is, isn't it
- 1:36:05Speaker 7: totally crazy that somebody who's on that show realizes it
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: and then they just play along and let their lives
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: and the rest of how they're viewed become this, this cartoon.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: So wait, now you've crossed over into like reality versions?
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Because I'm still talking about nighttime soaps now because I
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: think they're still doing regular scripted acting nighttime kind of
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: dramas that are way crazy.
- 1:36:33Speaker 7: I've seen a lot of those, except for, what is that, 9-1-1?
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: Those are like the best because they're a combination of
- 1:36:41Speaker 7: nighttime scripted drama and then reality show kind of combined
- 1:36:46Speaker 7: into one. They're like the nighttime version of, well, it
- 1:36:51Speaker 7: probably was a nighttime version when it came out when
- 1:36:53Speaker 7: we were kids, cause it was in syndication, but like
- 1:36:56Speaker 7: emergency and all those shows. But I'm talking about like
- 1:36:59Speaker 7: reality shows are just like, they've taken the same idea
- 1:37:02Speaker 7: and yet put real humans in these situations. And it's
- 1:37:05Speaker 7: so fake.
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Well, that's cause those people are terrible.
- 1:37:11Speaker 7: Usually that's what people care about. And that's my point.
- 1:37:14Speaker 7: It's like there's so many people that care about what
- 1:37:16Speaker 7: happens on The Bachelor and what their real life is
- 1:37:19Speaker 7: like or whatever.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: And it's like, but it has nothing to do with
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: this anyway. Like, it's all so doctored up. That's what
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I'm like. I want one or the other. Just like
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: be yourself and let me see somebody sitting at home
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: on a YouTube video in their PJs making breakfast or
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: whatever the hell is probably going on right now because
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: nobody can do anything else. Or I want something that
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: somebody is scripted, that somebody is shown up and done
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: a great job acting on, even if it's crazy and
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: over the top. Somebody has put together an entire, you know,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Good editing system like so that it tells the story
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: the way we want it to me. So I want
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: a professional version of it or I want the just
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: somebody hanging out at their house. I hate the in between,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: which is all this bullshit reality is, is just like
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: a badly put together version of the other ones. It's
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: not scripted, but it needs to be. But yet it's
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: not honest enough to be real. It's edited and doctored
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: up so that it makes a story that didn't even
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: happen when they shot it. So everything about it is
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: something that rubs me the wrong way.
- 1:38:26Speaker 7: I think that we're seeing the exact same thing. But
- 1:38:29Speaker 7: my point is... hopefully people realize that.
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:38:33Speaker 7: And they're not like, Oh, what happened on the bachelor?
- 1:38:36Speaker 7: Because you're like, Oh, people are dying.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: I also feel like nobody cares. Like I think some
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: of them probably realize it's not real and don't care.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: Like it is just the dumb entertainment thing. And they
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: acknowledge that it's dumb, but this is my, you know,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: I like bubble gum and this is what I'm going
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: to chew. Like, I think there are people that are
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: aware of it and just don't care because that's where
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: we are in the world. Like there are people that
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: this is my thing. I, this was my vice. I
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: watched these dumb shows and I know they're dumb, but
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: I don't, I lie to myself and I, you know,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: I don't turn off that part of my brain and
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: I just engross myself in whatever stupid thing they're doing
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: and And I, that's all I have. Like, that's what
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: I want. That's all I want at this point. Like I,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: I don't get that, but I, again, I know people
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: and I listened to them talk about it and they
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: realize it's dumb, but they love it. And that's, I
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: think that's part of the appeal. Huh? None of it
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: makes any sense to me.
- 1:39:39Speaker 7: No, you know, that's actually an interesting take because I
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: just kind of snobbly make the, the, the assumption that
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: people who like that kind of stuff are like.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Just dumb and don't know any better. Yeah. I think
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: there are plenty of those probably as well, but I
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: think there are a lot of people that probably started
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: watching it ironically of like, this is going to be
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: so stupid. And then they realize they still get that
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: thrill out of whatever dumb thing they're doing. And they
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: know that the show itself isn't well done or these
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: people are horrible or whatever and, but they still get
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: whatever they need from it. Again, it's eating candy for dinner.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: This is what I want, and I'm enjoying it right now,
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: and I don't care. I think there's plenty of people
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: that are aware of what it is and enjoy it
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: on a level like that. Again, I don't, but if
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: that's your thing, go for it.
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: Hey, you know what? It totally makes sense. I get it. Paul,
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: you want to weigh in?
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: Nope.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: I'll say this.
- 1:40:46Speaker 7: I love judge Judy. So I think that I'm no better.
- 1:40:49Speaker 7: And that's the exact reason I'm like, I don't care.
- 1:40:52Speaker 7: I just like to see the smart woman tell dumb people.
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: They're dumb.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: They are dumb. I've seen a few of those on lately.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: I'm just like, wow, this is still a thing.
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: It's still a thing.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 1:41:04Speaker 7: And she's smart and, you know, savvy, but that's exactly
- 1:41:09Speaker 7: the same thing. But I think that judge Judy is
- 1:41:12Speaker 7: a different thing from these shows because Because Judge Judy
- 1:41:16Speaker 7: is like a lady sitting with a bad ponytail now
- 1:41:19Speaker 7: because she's let her hair grow out. And she's like,
- 1:41:21Speaker 7: why do you think they want me? I have a
- 1:41:23Speaker 7: Christy Brinkley-like body. But then these other shows present an
- 1:41:27Speaker 7: idea of, and this is like a feminist problem of mine,
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: that these unrealistically giant boobed and butted girls who are
- 1:41:39Speaker 7: going to be fat in two years....
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Thanks to the cartoons that they watched that have taught
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: them that that's how they're supposed to eat.
- 1:41:49Speaker 7: Yeah, but you know what I mean? They're going to
- 1:41:51Speaker 7: be like tiny.
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: That's a second circle we've completed.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I was looping it back around there. You saw that.
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: Hold themselves to these like, we've supposedly made these like
- 1:42:04Speaker 7: progression as women, you know, and let me say this.
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: Let me go back because I feel like no one
- 1:42:12Speaker 7: has seen me And they don't know that I am
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: not a fat housewife.
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:42:19Speaker 7: So I'm not saying this from a fat housewife who's
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: intimidated situation. Like I work every day.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: You did say you went running every day recently. So
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: that's obviously not the case.
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:42:31Speaker 7: So I'm not making these calls as a woman who's like, well,
- 1:42:34Speaker 7: I feel intimidated, but I don't. But I think it's
- 1:42:37Speaker 7: a really unrealistic portrayal of what it is to be
- 1:42:39Speaker 7: a woman. And then they just cycle on to the
- 1:42:42Speaker 7: next situation. 22 year old that is going to be
- 1:42:45Speaker 7: fat by the time they're 25. You know what I mean?
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Like, is it, is it total? Well, that's as you're
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: saying that I'm like, is it totally unrealistic or is
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: it only something that certain tiny, this group of people
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: right here are going through? And there's always another crop
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: of 20-something girls to come in.
- 1:43:04Speaker 7: No, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: In a way, there's always going to be that. It's just,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: we're just catching it at this one little window. And
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: then the producers of all these shows are just taking
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: advantage of that and be like, all right, time for
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: the next ones. And we bring this, I don't know.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: I think it's not unrealistic. It's just setting a specific
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: narrow little window of like, here's these girls and this
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: is all that exists in the world because this is
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: all we put on TV. Whereas the other 98% of
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: the world is like, that's not me. I don't want
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: to be that. Why do I have to watch this
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: every week?
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Maybe that's just me.
- 1:43:40Speaker 7: But that's my point. Like, why are you showing me
- 1:43:43Speaker 7: this when it's like not me?
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Because it still sells like it doesn't matter think how
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: many of these shows there are how popular all this
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: bullshit is it's still working from a business standpoint so
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: why would they mess with it like i.
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: I don't know and i can't figure out why i
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: bought into like like i did honestly i would guiltily
- 1:44:04Speaker 7: watch jersey shore the first season.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: Yeah thankfully it was steered clear of that too I
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: just ended up watching it.
- 1:44:12Speaker 7: And Paul had to sit through episodes and it was
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: pretty embarrassing. And he was like, I just can't do this.
- 1:44:16Speaker 7: But I was just like, oh my God, I remember
- 1:44:18Speaker 7: being that young and dumb.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: And maybe that's part of it. Maybe it's not true
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: because I know plenty of people that are not young.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: But I mean, we all kind of buy into weird
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: stuff when we're younger. And then we get a few
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: years and get to redefine our taste. And we have
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: different things that we look back on and go, oh,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: I can't believe I watched that. So I don't know.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: I just like really, really important things like Thunder of
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: the Barbary myself.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:44:44Speaker 7: That was my next thing. Like what's something that you
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: look back on now and say, why did I watch that?
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: I mean, I don't, I don't think I have most
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: of them. I'm like, I don't have shame because I'm
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: watching the same level of ridiculous things now. So like,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: it's not like I've gotten better. They just aren't making
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: those same shows. So I had to find new ridiculous
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: children's programming to watch. And that's what I'm watching every day. So, yeah,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: I still just watch the same dumb kid shows. They're
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: just different dumb kid shows now.
- 1:45:15Speaker 7: So I have to remember, like, as a kid, I
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: loved Bring Him Back Alive. Wait. OK, no, no, wait.
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: I liked which was the one with the Jack Russell dog.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: I think we've played this game before.
- 1:45:30Speaker 7: We have, and now he's getting confused.
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: It's Tales of the.
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: Gold Monkey or Bring Him Back Alive.
- 1:45:34Speaker 7: I love Tales of the Gold Monkey. And then Bring
- 1:45:37Speaker 7: Him Back Alive, I liked, but I felt like I
- 1:45:39Speaker 7: was betraying Tales of the Gold Monkey.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: And I was just sitting there going, neither of you
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: are Indiana Jones, so why the hell are you on
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: my TV?
- 1:45:46Speaker 7: They wanted to be.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: They so wanted to be.
- 1:45:50Speaker 7: He had a Jack Russell named Jack.
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: And he was more of a scruffy adventurer. Bring Him
- 1:45:56Speaker 7: Back Alive was like, You took the entire opening sequence
- 1:46:00Speaker 7: of Temple of Doom and that was like who you
- 1:46:03Speaker 7: were dealing with.
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: I have no idea what you all are talking about.
- 1:46:11Speaker 7: The Tales of the Gold Monkey was where it was at.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: There were many, many knockoff Indiana Jones that came after
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: Raiders of the Lost Ark. No, there were many. There
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: were a whole lot of movies. And then there were
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: a couple of TV shows that made it through. Those
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: two were the network shows that came on. almost as
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: soon as they could slap things together and get it
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: out there. And yeah, but there were so many movies
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: that followed that, that were just like, wow, this wants
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: to be a Raiders of the Lost Ark kind of thing.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: And it's not. And this guy's trying so hard to
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: be an Indiana Jones type, but you just can't do it.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: And yeah, I always, again, it's another one of those
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: things that I was just, even as a kid, I
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: was like, nope, like you're just not, you're not, don't bother.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: You're not doing it. Like I immediately, It threw a
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: switch and I was just like, nope, done with this already.
- 1:47:02Speaker 7: I think I liked it because I just needed like
- 1:47:05Speaker 7: that in my life and I didn't have any way
- 1:47:08Speaker 7: to watch it besides something that was a TV show.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: And that's why you just waited a few more years
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: till we got the young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
- 1:47:16Speaker 7: Oh, I actually did like some of those.
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: I think the ones with Sean Patrick Flannery were actually good.
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: The little kid wins. I could care less. Again, I'm like,
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: this is the dumb kid. Why am I watching it?
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: I think even the producers realized that because very quickly
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: we didn't have those episodes anymore. But like the ones
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: where he was a teenager and he was actually getting
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: involved in things and he had a life and he
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: was involved in war and he had a girlfriend here
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: and there. Like it all had a real like weight
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: to it. those were pretty cool. And there were some
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: that were really well directed and well, well written. So
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: like those, I think filled that little, little emptiness until
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: we got, you know, finally a fourth Indiana Jones movie.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: It was really what we all wanted.
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:47:59Speaker 7: But that was a weird thing.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: We loved it. And we, it's our favorite one.
- 1:48:05Speaker 7: So we all expected the Sheila buff character to kind
- 1:48:08Speaker 7: of be in that same vein of the young Indiana Jones.
- 1:48:11Speaker 7: And he wasn't. I mean, he was just a sniveling
- 1:48:14Speaker 7: I wonder if.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: That's the problem. If you would have cast anybody else, would,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: would people have hated that movie as much?
- 1:48:24Speaker 7: Oh, who would you have cast?
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: This is another project. I think we have to work
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: on this for next time. Yeah.
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: I think that story was not great by itself. Great.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: But at the same time, like, I almost feel like
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: we just, had backlash. Like no matter what came out,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: we were going to be pissed because we liked the
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: three so much that like, because when I think I'm like, Oh,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: this is so ridiculous. And I'm like, well, you want
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: to run down the things that happened in the first
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: three movies because it's pretty ridiculous.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:48:55Speaker 7: But the first one, I mean, the first one.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: The first one is a pretty solid action movie period.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Like maybe perfect, but yeah, if you want to call
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: out ridiculous things going on, let's look at temple of
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: doom because charts crazy. Don't get me wrong. I love it.
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: Like I loved it as a kid.
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: I love it now.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: I did too.
- 1:49:17Speaker 7: But even at the time I was like, nah, this
- 1:49:19Speaker 7: feels like an off, off story.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: I just, now I can distance myself enough to go like, well, no,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: this is like the things that are happening here equally
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: as ridiculous as what's happening in crystal skull. It's just
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: we liked that one because we didn't have 20 extra
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: years in the middle to build up this high hopes
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: that we expected something to be that it would never reach.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm not fully defending Crystal Skull, but
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: I've thrown up a lot more questions in recent years
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: of like, why did we like hate it so much
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: for things that are really not that different than what
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: happened in those other two seats?
- 1:49:57Speaker 7: But here's the thing. The other two involved Nazis and anybody...
- 1:50:01Speaker 7: can suspend any kind of disbelief because they hate Nazis enough.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: Temple of Doom didn't.
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: And truthfully to me, they found the perfect surrogate. I mean,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: Cold War Russians are essentially in our storytelling arc Nazis.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Like you can easily insert them in there. It falls
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: into the same weird area and you can off.
- 1:50:24Speaker 7: Do you?
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: I mean, again, we're coming from the American standpoint. Offing
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: Ruskies is all we grew up in the 80s thinking
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: is like, that's how you'd make a good movie. You
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: kill a bunch of Russian people like that. So like
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: that was the perfect way to like ease your way
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: out of the Nazi era was just shove some Cold
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: War Russians in there.
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: It's true.
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: I mean, really, I thought that was actually kind of
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: genius on their part.
- 1:50:51Speaker 7: Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Because that's what everybody loved about those one in three
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: were Nazis. He was just punching Nazis in the face
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: the whole time. And we're like, yeah, fuck yeah, that's
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: what we want. And then Nazis were gone by the
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: time the next one rolled around. I'm like, well, Russia?
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: We don't like Russia, right?
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: Speaking of Nazis, something to discuss next time, which is
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: another movie that I watched was Overlord. Have you seen
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: that yet?
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: No.
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: Okay, we'll talk about that later.
- 1:51:22Speaker 7: I feel like Paul wants to get off of this call.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Oh, I think we've passed up making sense a long
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: time ago. So we really should round this one out. But.
- 1:51:33Speaker 7: That's when these get to be the best.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: We've made a lot of notes for the next installment.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Maybe it'll be this way. Hopefully we'll be able to
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: sit down again somewhere in the future.
- 1:51:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I hope so. I enjoy doing this.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: I would hope so.
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: So.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Even if.
- 1:51:50Speaker 7: You don't like what we have to contribute, I still
- 1:51:52Speaker 7: think it's incredibly fun and.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: I always think it's fun. That's why I keep trying
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: to put these together, even if we have to go
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: to these lengths to do it. So I'm glad we've
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: done this version, but I'd like to get back to
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: the tabletop version.
- 1:52:09Speaker 7: And dinner. We always make a good dinner.
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: I think we've got our topics laid out for next time.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: So we'll come back then, pick up on those and 4,000
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: other conversations.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: We're good at that.
