- 0:58Speaker 2: I had to learn something adversity. This is what I learned.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I often ask people. I said, how many of you
- 1:04Speaker 2: all have ever had a bad day? And the audience
- 1:06Speaker 2: raised their head, how many of y'all have had days
- 1:08Speaker 2: where you felt like you wasn't gonna make it?
- 1:10Speaker 3: And everybody raised their head.
- 1:12Speaker 2: How many y'all have had days where you thought you
- 1:14Speaker 2: you just didn't know what you was gonna do. Everybody
- 1:17Speaker 2: raises they hand. I said, now, let me tell you
- 1:19Speaker 2: something about yourself. Your track record for surviving hard days,
- 1:26Speaker 2: days you wasn't gonna make it, thought you weren't gonna
- 1:28Speaker 2: make it, an insurmountable days.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Your track record for surviving those days is one per
- 1:33Speaker 3: every bad day you've ever had, you survived it. You
- 1:38Speaker 3: got a one hundred percent track record. Everybody in here,
- 1:42Speaker 3: everybody watching, got a one hundred percent track record of
- 1:46Speaker 3: surviving funky ass days. My graduates from my school being
- 1:53Speaker 3: forced bad drop bag drop, Mike drop bad drop drop.
- 2:09Speaker 4: All right, guys, welcome back, e y l. This is
- 2:12Speaker 4: going to be a legendary situation.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Feels legendary already.
- 2:15Speaker 4: It's already a legendary pre conversation that we actually had
- 2:19Speaker 4: for like a half an hour. So if you know us,
- 2:22Speaker 4: you know that you know we grew up in the
- 2:25Speaker 4: culture from music, sports, of course, entertainment. So one of
- 2:30Speaker 4: the pillars of our culture who's actually become an icon,
- 2:34Speaker 4: Steve Harvey. So Steve Harvey needs no introduction, But I
- 2:38Speaker 4: was telling him the story. My I'm not sure if
- 2:41Speaker 4: that's my first introduction, but like when it really became
- 2:44Speaker 4: like really really big.
- 2:45Speaker 3: For me was the Kings of Comedy.
- 2:47Speaker 4: And it's crazy that that happened over twenty five years ago.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Now the teenager say.
- 2:53Speaker 3: That I was younger than the teenager.
- 2:56Speaker 5: I'm gonna go further back. I'm gonna go further back.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I remember what happened to wait up at twelve am
- 3:00Speaker 6: to watch a show time at the Apollogy.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Oh apollow that was before.
- 3:04Speaker 4: That was before what I'm saying the same time, right,
- 3:06Speaker 4: like you have to wait up to see it follow
- 3:07Speaker 4: that was legendary. But just to see the Kings of
- 3:11Speaker 4: comedy in the movie theater and to see his cultural impact,
- 3:14Speaker 4: like I never forget, like I had never seen because
- 3:17Speaker 4: I'm too young for like raw or you know all
- 3:20Speaker 4: of those.
- 3:21Speaker 5: So crazy.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that was before my time.
- 3:23Speaker 4: So that was the first time I actually saw like
- 3:25Speaker 4: a comedy show in a movie theater packed and people
- 3:29Speaker 4: talking about it, and people stealing the jokes and making
- 3:33Speaker 4: it their own jokes.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Like what it just became like a cultural phenomenon.
- 3:37Speaker 6: I think that might have been my first time crying
- 3:38Speaker 6: at theater. Why'd you cry because I was just laughing,
- 3:40Speaker 6: so oh yeah, yeah. Once I said we back got
- 3:45Speaker 6: up there, it was just like this is crazy. And
- 3:47Speaker 6: then d l and it was it was crazy. It
- 3:50Speaker 6: was I couldn't wait for the DVD to come out
- 3:52Speaker 6: to keep watching it.
- 3:52Speaker 5: That's how it was.
- 3:54Speaker 6: DVDs is what we used to put inside of the drive.
- 3:57Speaker 4: God damn forget it. Yeah, tell people, but you know,
- 4:02Speaker 4: it's crazy. Just to see the evolution. I told them,
- 4:04Speaker 4: it's just inspiring for me, Like we're actually at his
- 4:07Speaker 4: a state right now, and to see the evolution of
- 4:12Speaker 4: you know, somebody that was doing comedy and then it
- 4:15Speaker 4: was on TV radio and now just media mogul and
- 4:19Speaker 4: has grown a whole empire. Like, you know, it's inspiring
- 4:23Speaker 4: actually because we actually got to see it first hand.
- 4:25Speaker 4: We actually got to like witness the growth step by
- 4:27Speaker 4: step by step by step. So this is going to
- 4:30Speaker 4: be a dope conversation because I feel like a lot
- 4:31Speaker 4: of times people might they might see the surface, like
- 4:34Speaker 4: they see, you know, the celebrity, but they don't actually
- 4:38Speaker 4: see what goes behind that and how he's actually transitioning
- 4:41Speaker 4: the whole world of Hollywood with the conversation that we
- 4:43Speaker 4: just had. We have that conversation as well, reframing everything
- 4:47Speaker 4: and ownership and all of this stuff global vision. So
- 4:50Speaker 4: this is going to be extremely extremely high level conversation.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Dope conversation.
- 4:55Speaker 6: So it's dope because it's like we saw the entertainment,
- 4:58Speaker 6: but most people forget that there's a bit it and
- 5:01Speaker 6: so like they head here, what's gonna happen today? Man,
- 5:03Speaker 6: it's going to be one of those situations that they
- 5:06Speaker 6: gonna remember father.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you for joining us, brother, I appreciate it.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you for having us. Thank you man.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know, one of the things like you were talking,
- 5:13Speaker 2: because what I learned very quickly that show business is
- 5:19Speaker 2: actually two separate words.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It's not one continuous thing.
- 5:24Speaker 2: See, you can have the best show in the world,
- 5:27Speaker 2: but if you don't have the business, then how would
- 5:31Speaker 2: people book you? How would people pay the ticket price
- 5:35Speaker 2: to see you? Why would people come? You know, if
- 5:38Speaker 2: you don't have the business. So you can have the
- 5:40Speaker 2: best show in the world, and if you don't take
- 5:42Speaker 2: care of the business, it won't work. You can have
- 5:44Speaker 2: the best business acumen in the world, but if you
- 5:48Speaker 2: ain't got no great show, or you might trick them
- 5:50Speaker 2: into paying you this money, and you might, but once
- 5:53Speaker 2: they get there and you don't have the show that
- 5:55Speaker 2: leaves up to the ticket price, you don't have a
- 5:58Speaker 2: repeat customer. So I always had to learn that show
- 6:01Speaker 2: business was two separate words, and I had to ask.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And at first it only starts out as being a
- 6:06Speaker 2: great show show me because you got to learn the business.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And over the.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Years I started focusing on the business, and that was
- 6:14Speaker 2: one of the biggest causes for my success because I
- 6:18Speaker 2: always understood that even with a promoter that booked me
- 6:21Speaker 2: or comedy club owner that hired me, I didn't go
- 6:24Speaker 2: in there just to be hired.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I went in there as his partner.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I wanted to sell his place out, so after he
- 6:30Speaker 2: paid me, he was successful, so he would want me back.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Over and over and over again.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And I kept that relationship whether it was a comedy
- 6:36Speaker 2: club owner or a promoter or a TV show.
- 6:39Speaker 3: That was my philosophy.
- 6:41Speaker 4: So I want to get into this. I understand you
- 6:43Speaker 4: have five core principles when it comes to considering business.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Dreaming big, dream big, use your imagination, show gratitude, overcome fear,
- 6:52Speaker 4: and have faith. Yeah, man, can we go over each
- 6:55Speaker 4: one dream, big, let's start with that one.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Everything starts with the dream.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Nothing launches without the dream that comes from your childhood.
- 7:04Speaker 2: From anything, it's the dream. It's the core basis of success.
- 7:08Speaker 2: See the thing with me, man, is that I don't
- 7:10Speaker 2: really focus on the technical aspects of business, because I'm
- 7:14Speaker 2: not the technical guy. I focus on the mental aspect
- 7:17Speaker 2: of business. I focus on the part that go on
- 7:19Speaker 2: in here, because if you fix what goes on in here,
- 7:22Speaker 2: you got a shot. Now, you technical ain't nothing if
- 7:26Speaker 2: you ain't got it set up. So the dream is
- 7:29Speaker 2: the core of everything. That dream, Man, it's biblical, you know.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Man without a dream or vision shall perish.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Listen about you.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Education ain't even in the Bible. I ain't never mind.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I ain't never read nothing about Harvard Emory. I ain't
- 7:45Speaker 2: never heard no Ivy League scriptures.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I've never All it talks about is that dream. So
- 7:52Speaker 3: that's the core imagination.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Now that's critical, because see what people don't understand, is, man,
- 8:00Speaker 2: this thing that you imagine is is a peak. Albert
- 8:07Speaker 2: Einstein had a quote he said, imagination is everything. It's
- 8:11Speaker 2: the preview to life's coming attractions. Oh, man, when I
- 8:15Speaker 2: heard that that tripped me out. Because here's Albert Einstein
- 8:19Speaker 2: setting it out that imagination is everything.
- 8:21Speaker 3: It's to preview to life coming attraction.
- 8:23Speaker 2: So everything that's in your imagination is God showing you
- 8:28Speaker 2: a preview of a coming attraction that He has for you. See,
- 8:32Speaker 2: So you can't don't let nobody play your imagination off.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Don't let nobody twist you about what's in your imagination.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Don't learn how you see that they ain't supposed to
- 8:43Speaker 2: see it. See, everybody not gonna see your imagination. You
- 8:46Speaker 2: can quit telling it to them. Because God wanted them
- 8:48Speaker 2: to see it. He to put it in their imagination,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but he put it in yours. So imagination is as
- 8:54Speaker 2: critical as the dream, because the imagination is just God
- 8:59Speaker 2: showing you a preview what he has to It's like
- 9:01Speaker 2: when you go to a movie and you get your
- 9:03Speaker 2: popcorn and you sit down before the movie start.
- 9:05Speaker 3: What do they show you?
- 9:07Speaker 2: They show you previews of what a coming attraction? Have
- 9:12Speaker 2: you ever seen a preview? And then the movie ain't
- 9:15Speaker 2: come out? Now, Bro, Once you see the preview, it's
- 9:19Speaker 2: send to be a movie.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You believe that. And that's how the imagination works in
- 9:23Speaker 3: your life.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I mean, as the third one is very interesting to me.
- 9:26Speaker 4: You show gratitude.
- 9:28Speaker 2: See, gratitude is one of the most overlooked and key
- 9:33Speaker 2: principles to your success.
- 9:36Speaker 3: If your goal is to.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Be a millionaire, and you start out making twenty thousand
- 9:41Speaker 2: a year and then God gets you to fifty, but
- 9:46Speaker 2: you're mad because you ain't a millionaire, be hold up, man,
- 9:50Speaker 2: do you not remember that just a minute ago you
- 9:53Speaker 2: wasn't didn't have a twenty, So you got to show
- 9:55Speaker 2: gratitude for the fifty.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Then somehow, by the grace of God, you get to.
- 10:02Speaker 2: It's people making one hundred and fifty who used to
- 10:04Speaker 2: be dead broke mad because they not a millionaire. Hold up, partner,
- 10:09Speaker 2: do you remember when you was just making the fifty?
- 10:12Speaker 2: Now you done triple that, And you gotta understand that
- 10:16Speaker 2: there's joy in the journey. So if you don't show
- 10:19Speaker 2: the proper amount of gratitude, you're never gonna be happy.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You're never gonna be content. And after a while, man,
- 10:25Speaker 3: God gonna get tired of you.
- 10:26Speaker 2: They're like, if you somebody come over your house and
- 10:28Speaker 2: borrow a cup of sugar. Every day, every day, somebody
- 10:31Speaker 2: come to your house and ask you for a cup
- 10:32Speaker 2: of sugar and you give it to them and they
- 10:35Speaker 2: walk away and don't ever say thank you. How many
- 10:37Speaker 2: times can this cat come to your house and get
- 10:41Speaker 2: this sugar without saying thank you to you?
- 10:43Speaker 3: Before you, as a human being, go yo, yo, yo,
- 10:45Speaker 3: my man.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You come here every day and I give you this
- 10:49Speaker 2: couple of sugar, you ain't said thank you want to
- 10:51Speaker 2: don't come by here no more. But through God's grace
- 10:54Speaker 2: and mercy he allow us to keep coming back. But
- 10:57Speaker 2: suppose you were grateful though, Maybe one time you go
- 11:01Speaker 2: to God and ask for another one fifty and he
- 11:03Speaker 2: give you five hundred.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Cause you didn't show gratitude.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Maybe sometimes when the guy that kept coming by your
- 11:09Speaker 2: house asking for the cup of sugar, if he would
- 11:11Speaker 2: show g gratitude, maybe you go, hey, man.
- 11:14Speaker 3: He go five pound cycle sugar. That way, you ain't
- 11:16Speaker 3: gotta come back tomorrow.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But if you never show the gratitude, you never become
- 11:20Speaker 2: the recipient of the grace. And the grace is to
- 11:24Speaker 2: what you need on top of that that helps you
- 11:27Speaker 2: get to the next level and take your place.
- 11:29Speaker 3: My wife asked me the other day, cause I just
- 11:31Speaker 3: turned sixty five, right, I was talking to my wife
- 11:34Speaker 3: and I said baby, I was just kind of kind.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I got a little throw it off a little bit,
- 11:38Speaker 3: cause even I'm human, you know, I got a little
- 11:39Speaker 3: throw it off, said baby. I just turned sixty five,
- 11:41Speaker 3: and I really was wanting a little bit more to
- 11:45Speaker 3: be popped off by now.
- 11:46Speaker 2: She said, way'm my hold up state. She said, let
- 11:50Speaker 2: me ask you something. When you was thirty, where did
- 11:54Speaker 2: you see yourself at sixty five? I said, well, I
- 11:56Speaker 2: ain't see this, She said exactly. She said, So you
- 12:00Speaker 2: could want all you want, but you need to go
- 12:03Speaker 2: outside and just drive around and go get in some
- 12:06Speaker 2: of your cars and see how you fly.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And just take a look around. And now I think
- 12:12Speaker 3: you be all right.
- 12:13Speaker 2: And I went on and sat down and go sit
- 12:16Speaker 2: down about overcoming fear, well, fear. Fear is the number
- 12:24Speaker 2: one cause of people not being successful because davage person
- 12:29Speaker 2: freezes theyself with fear and they never try.
- 12:32Speaker 5: You know.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It's like people are afraid to fail. Dog, that's the process.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't care who you talk to. I've watched y'all's interviews. Man,
- 12:41Speaker 2: y'all can talk to some bad people. I don't care
- 12:43Speaker 2: who y'all was listening, Big Ross Man, that boy cold,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you sit up and listening to Ross Man, and you
- 12:49Speaker 2: go this a hood. Dude's real simple. If you don't
- 12:52Speaker 2: understand ross it's because you don't want to. He just basic, dude.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But if you are afraid feel, it freezes you. And
- 13:03Speaker 2: people are afraid to fail. Failure is a part of
- 13:07Speaker 2: the process. You cannot get where you're going without failing, Pardoner,
- 13:12Speaker 2: you don't learn nothing winning. Michael Jordan took nine hundred
- 13:17Speaker 2: some game winning shots. He only made one hundred and
- 13:21Speaker 2: forty some of them. They don't write about the seven
- 13:25Speaker 2: hundred some missus, but you see he on Wheedi boxes
- 13:29Speaker 2: because in one hundred and forty six.
- 13:31Speaker 3: He made that.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Nobody gives a down that he has failed three quarters
- 13:38Speaker 2: of the time. He was willing to take that game
- 13:41Speaker 2: winning shot and hoping to make it. Now he'd have
- 13:43Speaker 2: made one hundred and forty six. So he got a
- 13:45Speaker 2: lot of rings on his fingers because he lost to
- 13:48Speaker 2: feel failure and failure, man, is a part of the process,
- 13:51Speaker 2: So you got to lose the fear of failing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:53Speaker 3: It's just a part of it. It's the deal. The
- 13:56Speaker 3: last one having faith, Well, that's the ultimate. See.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I was raised cool man because my father didn't go
- 14:06Speaker 2: to church ever. My father was a hoolum. He was
- 14:09Speaker 2: a hard working man, but my father was a hoolum.
- 14:12Speaker 2: He wasn't a gangster. My father was a hoodlum. He
- 14:14Speaker 2: did he had some legal activities with Don King in Cleveland,
- 14:19Speaker 2: and when I see Don King man, we just hugged.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Don King went to jail for manslaughter. My father knew
- 14:26Speaker 2: this dude. My father ran numbers with Don King in
- 14:29Speaker 2: Cleveland because in the winter time he worked construction, so
- 14:33Speaker 2: he wasn't working, so he was a number runner in Cleveland.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So my first job when I was ten years old
- 14:38Speaker 2: was a paper route, and my job was not to
- 14:42Speaker 2: just deliver the papers, but I had to go to
- 14:43Speaker 2: everybody's house off my bike. And remember where they put
- 14:46Speaker 2: their numbers. Some people put their numbers up under the
- 14:49Speaker 2: fender of their car. Some people would tape it under
- 14:52Speaker 2: their stairway, under their steps, rats and stuff under that
- 14:56Speaker 2: had get up there and get their taper. Some people
- 14:58Speaker 2: to put it behind their mail. Some people hand it
- 15:01Speaker 2: to you every morning. And my father was a hoodlum.
- 15:05Speaker 2: My mother was saved. She was a Christian. My mother
- 15:08Speaker 2: took her to church. That combination of his being doing
- 15:16Speaker 2: whatever he had to do to survive for his family,
- 15:19Speaker 2: measured with my mother's teaching us about God and prayer
- 15:23Speaker 2: and faith and scriptures has been the total cornerstone of
- 15:28Speaker 2: who I am.
- 15:29Speaker 3: My faith. See, faith is a belief in things that
- 15:33Speaker 3: you cannot see. Without that how you make it.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Because I'm finna ask God for something that I don't see,
- 15:43Speaker 2: No how, no way I can get it.
- 15:46Speaker 3: But I got the faith that one day I have it.
- 15:49Speaker 2: That's cold, man, that's a cold peace to lock it
- 15:52Speaker 2: into your mind. And people that don't have faith, that
- 15:55Speaker 2: don't have a spiritual background, I feel sorry for him, man,
- 15:58Speaker 2: because it's finna be way hart way harder, because too
- 16:01Speaker 2: much gonna happen to you. That's gonna require some God.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Now you can think it, don't. I don't really believe
- 16:08Speaker 2: in God. Okay, you ain't gotta be He's still there.
- 16:11Speaker 5: You know.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I don't believe in heaven. It's still gonna be one.
- 16:16Speaker 3: One dude told me.
- 16:17Speaker 2: He said, well, hey, man, suppose you get there and
- 16:20Speaker 2: you find out it ain't no heaven.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Well then I lived the best life I could. It
- 16:24Speaker 3: ain't no heaven.
- 16:25Speaker 2: You got a bigger problem if if you think it
- 16:28Speaker 2: ain't one day, and it is because now you've done
- 16:30Speaker 2: done what you wanted to do and now you ain't
- 16:32Speaker 2: going so faith man, all those five pillars are the
- 16:37Speaker 2: cornerstone though.
- 16:38Speaker 6: So I mean, there's a generation that has watched you,
- 16:41Speaker 6: like we spoke earlier, like my son knows you for
- 16:43Speaker 6: family feud and you know, like right, they've come up
- 16:46Speaker 6: in the world where you've always been successful, but that
- 16:50Speaker 6: always goesn't the case? And so those core principles how
- 16:54Speaker 6: would they developed throughout your career because I know, I
- 16:56Speaker 6: mean you started early.
- 16:57Speaker 5: You go homemost at one point, living.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Out your car, and so how did we start developing
- 17:02Speaker 6: these court principles? Were the experiences that would happen? And
- 17:04Speaker 6: he's like, all right, there's a lesson. They won't have
- 17:06Speaker 6: to go through it because I did. Here's what you
- 17:08Speaker 6: need to love, you know man.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It's that failure piece that teaches them to you. That's
- 17:15Speaker 2: why you got to lose your fear of failure, because
- 17:17Speaker 2: it's in the failures.
- 17:19Speaker 3: It's where you learn these lessons. You know.
- 17:21Speaker 2: My father used to say, ain't the best lesson you'll
- 17:25Speaker 2: ever learned is a balt lesson?
- 17:27Speaker 3: That lesson you pay for that, one's gonna stick with
- 17:30Speaker 3: you hard than anything.
- 17:31Speaker 2: So when faith is When I was ten years old
- 17:36Speaker 2: and I wrote on the assignment piece of paper what
- 17:38Speaker 2: you want to be when you grow up? And I
- 17:40Speaker 2: was ten and I wrote, I won't be on TV.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Okay Le's faith. I didn't know I couldn't, so I
- 17:45Speaker 2: just wrote it on. Bill Cosby was on TV in
- 17:48Speaker 2: nineteen sixty six. So in nineteen sixty eight, when Bill
- 17:52Speaker 2: Carsby came on TV, the whole block cleared out.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Everybody went in the house. Watch Bill calls me. He
- 17:58Speaker 3: was on I spy.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Here's a black dude that was talking on television to
- 18:02Speaker 2: white people and telling them what to do.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Oh man, we were sitting in there all day.
- 18:08Speaker 2: So two years after that, when Lady asked me what
- 18:10Speaker 2: I want to do, I said, I want to be
- 18:11Speaker 2: on TV.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Now.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Through all of my hardships, I did not get on
- 18:18Speaker 2: TV till I was thirty six. It took twenty six
- 18:23Speaker 2: years for that little piece of paper to ring true.
- 18:27Speaker 3: That took a lot of faith.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But in there in between now the homelessness, the losing
- 18:34Speaker 2: everything I ever earned, I ever ever had Twice, I've
- 18:39Speaker 2: lost everything twice. I lost it all when I was homeless.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I lost it all again in two thousand and five.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I was zeroed out.
- 18:45Speaker 2: In two thousand and five, I had one thousand, seven
- 18:47Speaker 2: hundred dollars left king with a comedy all that a divorce.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yeah, her lawyer was outstanding. I was in court clacking
- 19:00Speaker 3: for him. Yeah, he was so cold. I was in
- 19:05Speaker 3: heath in court room going next thing I know, I
- 19:07Speaker 3: ain't had nothing. This dude was gangster man, you know.
- 19:12Speaker 5: And then I asked some.
- 19:13Speaker 2: People had stole some stuff from me, and accounting and
- 19:16Speaker 2: all types of stuff happening.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I lost everything, But in those dark.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Moments was when I learned, Okay, faith is belief in
- 19:25Speaker 2: things that you cannot see.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I don't know how.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Much rise up again, but I gotta believe that I am.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And then you got to keep that imagination that I
- 19:32Speaker 2: saw since I was teen, and I was gonna.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Be on TV. So that imagination I had to keep
- 19:37Speaker 3: relying on that because.
- 19:38Speaker 2: That's all I had, you understand, and then the dream
- 19:43Speaker 2: was to get on TV, and I had to keep
- 19:46Speaker 2: that in my head even through the darkest moments, because see,
- 19:50Speaker 2: if you mastered a mental aspect of it, when the
- 19:53Speaker 2: stuff is happening that comes into play. You remember all
- 19:58Speaker 2: the scriptures my mama taught, today is the day that
- 20:02Speaker 2: the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And she say that to me every day I went
- 20:05Speaker 2: out of school. I was so tired of hearing that.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But man, do you know how cold that thing.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Stuck with me? That today is the day He made?
- 20:13Speaker 2: And since I had to learn something in adversity, this
- 20:18Speaker 2: is what I learned. I often ask people. I said,
- 20:20Speaker 2: how many of you all have ever had a bad day?
- 20:22Speaker 2: And the audience raised their head. How many of y'all
- 20:24Speaker 2: have had days where you felt like you wasn't gonna
- 20:27Speaker 2: make it?
- 20:27Speaker 3: And everybody raised their head.
- 20:29Speaker 2: How many y'all have had days where you thought you
- 20:31Speaker 2: you just didn't know what you was gonna do. Everybody
- 20:34Speaker 2: raises they hand. I said, now, let me tell you
- 20:36Speaker 2: something about yourself. Your track record for surviving hard days,
- 20:43Speaker 2: days you wasn't gonna make it, thought you weren't gonna
- 20:45Speaker 2: make it, an insurmountable days, your track record for surviving
- 20:48Speaker 2: those days is one hundred percent.
- 20:51Speaker 6: That's great. I used to say that to my coworkers.
- 20:53Speaker 6: I was when I was teaching, and like I had
- 20:55Speaker 6: a terrible day. They were like, why are you always
- 20:58Speaker 6: so happy? I'm like, if you had a terrible daddy, right,
- 21:01Speaker 6: really internalize that, how many good days have you had
- 21:04Speaker 6: to have to realize that this one wasn't as good
- 21:05Speaker 6: as the other ones? Like, yeah, you're right, I'm yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 6: So let's just be thankful for this moment. We might
- 21:11Speaker 6: not get it again.
- 21:13Speaker 3: But every bad day you've ever had, you survived it, exactly.
- 21:20Speaker 3: You got a one track record. Everybody in here, everybody watching,
- 21:25Speaker 3: got a one hundred track record of surviving funky ass
- 21:29Speaker 3: days everybody.
- 21:32Speaker 2: So now, once I know that when them funky days come,
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm rest assured that even if it lasts for a
- 21:42Speaker 2: week or two six months, I'm gonna survive it. Because
- 21:45Speaker 2: if you wake me up in the morning, man, that's
- 21:48Speaker 2: a clear sign to me that he ain't through with
- 21:50Speaker 2: me yet. So I feel like I'm almost out of it,
- 21:54Speaker 2: and eventually you're gonna get out of whatever it.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Is, you know. So let's let's talk about this.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Steve har Global, So that's that's all your companies are
- 22:04Speaker 4: underneath that, right, So I want to talk about the
- 22:07Speaker 4: family feud Africa. But first I'll pick up on a
- 22:10Speaker 4: conversation that we just had as far as you realizing
- 22:15Speaker 4: that you wanted to change things up. How usually Hollywood
- 22:18Speaker 4: is done where you wanted to eliminate like the traditional
- 22:21Speaker 4: agent route, hiring a full time attorney south of Brandon
- 22:27Speaker 4: and actually, you know, doing the deals yourself, negotiating the
- 22:31Speaker 4: deals with yourself, you and your your attorney and not
- 22:33Speaker 4: having to pay the percentage and not having to go
- 22:35Speaker 4: through all of the hass or of dealing with the
- 22:37Speaker 4: traditional So can you.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Talk about that a little bit.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah, See, it took me years to come to this
- 22:41Speaker 2: because Hollywood is a system. They have an ingrained system
- 22:45Speaker 2: out there. Man, you come out here, you get an agent.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Then then a lot of them got a manager too.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And then when you sign a contract with a Hollywood attorney,
- 22:57Speaker 2: they five percent of your contract.
- 23:00Speaker 3: For the duration.
- 23:01Speaker 2: So if you sign a five year deal, they get
- 23:03Speaker 2: five percent of your money for five years, and everybody
- 23:08Speaker 2: falls into that deal many because they lock you in.
- 23:11Speaker 2: And then what's crazy, what I found out was is
- 23:15Speaker 2: not a lot of agents that's beating the bushes to
- 23:18Speaker 2: procure you employment. They simply list you on their roster
- 23:22Speaker 2: and when somebody want you, they go online and your
- 23:25Speaker 2: name is under this agency's roster. And they call these
- 23:28Speaker 2: people now because they picked up the phone. Now their
- 23:31Speaker 2: ass is in for teen percent. Now when they come
- 23:35Speaker 2: in for teen percent, then you want to go do
- 23:38Speaker 2: the deal. They pick up their phone and call their
- 23:40Speaker 2: favorite lawyer. Who is they boy? Who they work in conjunction, Steve,
- 23:44Speaker 2: we got the guy that's gonna cut your deal. You
- 23:46Speaker 2: so busy being happy to be on TV. You say, okay, cool,
- 23:49Speaker 2: because you don't have that lawyer normally. And now right
- 23:52Speaker 2: there you fifteen percent of your money gone. Now if
- 23:57Speaker 2: you real stupid, you got a manager. Who is this dude?
- 24:04Speaker 2: That's some dude that's usually your homie that you started
- 24:08Speaker 2: out with, and you make him your manager. Now he
- 24:11Speaker 2: can be anywhere from five to twenty percent, depending on
- 24:14Speaker 2: how you cut.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Your deal with him. Now you're looking up at.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Your money, man, and you could be out of anywhere
- 24:19Speaker 2: from fifteen to twenty five to thirty percent of your
- 24:23Speaker 2: money off the.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Dribble before taxes anything. You ain't got nothing.
- 24:27Speaker 2: So if you make one million, three hundred thousand of
- 24:31Speaker 2: that is gone.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yo.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Man, man, you're doing it in California.
- 24:36Speaker 2: You pay taxes, bro, And now you got that that
- 24:39Speaker 2: franchise tax, that's semi cent. So now you sent up
- 24:41Speaker 2: here going then the government they won't forty Now you
- 24:46Speaker 2: send up here, man, seventy percent of your money gone.
- 24:49Speaker 2: And that that's real, man, that's real talk. That's why, man,
- 24:54Speaker 2: Hollywood is the land of illusion. Most of us man
- 24:59Speaker 2: are not making what y'all think we making.
- 25:02Speaker 3: We just not man, because we.
- 25:05Speaker 2: In that system. And it's not just cause you stupid
- 25:09Speaker 2: or nothing. It says you get caught up in the system.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So as the years went by, and I I'm just
- 25:14Speaker 2: not getting free of this, you know what I mean.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It took me a long time to figure it out.
- 25:18Speaker 2: So I said, wait a minute, man. So I had
- 25:21Speaker 2: this lawyer that was doing some deals for me with
- 25:23Speaker 2: a business. I had this this guy named Brandy Williams,
- 25:28Speaker 2: and he was black, and he was with this huge
- 25:30Speaker 2: law firm, the acquisition merger firm, right, and he used
- 25:34Speaker 2: to come up to Chicago and do deals some man.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I just liked him.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Man.
- 25:37Speaker 2: So one day I was sitting up, Man, I was
- 25:39Speaker 2: watching Godfather and I was watching my favorite movie Man,
- 25:43Speaker 2: and Tom is the concilier or whatever that name is
- 25:48Speaker 2: for the family, right, But he's not Italian, and he's
- 25:51Speaker 2: not he's not a maid man or nothing. But he
- 25:55Speaker 2: cut the deals for the Godfather. And I was sitting
- 26:00Speaker 2: there really watching that movie, one of my favorite movies.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I said, man, that's what I need. I need a
- 26:06Speaker 2: tom somebody had just cut my deals. So Brandon Williams,
- 26:11Speaker 2: some years ago we hooked up and I just approached
- 26:14Speaker 2: you one day. I said, Man, I ever thought about
- 26:16Speaker 2: doing something else? And he said, nah, I'm really good
- 26:19Speaker 2: where I am. Yeah, but that's cause you know you
- 26:21Speaker 2: in the system too, bruhs. So just let me talk
- 26:23Speaker 2: to you for a little bit. And we talked about it.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I said, Man, I'm gonna travel. I'm'a travel the world. Man,
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'm finna be global. I'm gonna bema. I'm gonna take
- 26:33Speaker 2: my brand and spread it across the world.
- 26:36Speaker 3: I ain't gonna just sit here on United States TV.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I wanna go be global.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I said, Man, we can travel, We can do this,
- 26:44Speaker 2: and he said and then he went home and talked
- 26:46Speaker 2: to his wife. And like we often joke about how
- 26:48Speaker 2: much smarter our wives are in US, and y'all don't
- 26:50Speaker 2: get to see them in the background with them women, man,
- 26:53Speaker 2: cause they know who they really are. She said it's
- 26:55Speaker 2: a no brainer, and he had a conversation with a
- 26:58Speaker 2: mom who's a lawyer, and next thing you know, he
- 27:01Speaker 2: came back and we formed a relationship.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And it took me some.
- 27:04Speaker 2: While to get out of some of the contracts I
- 27:06Speaker 2: was in. But after a while, as contracts was ending.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I got rid of the lawyer.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I said, hey, man, you read that paperwork and tell
- 27:14Speaker 2: me what to say, because only section I can really
- 27:17Speaker 2: understand his compensation.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Once you type in the word WinCE, I get lost
- 27:25Speaker 3: cause I don't know how to ma now I'm reading
- 27:27Speaker 3: the Bible. Now whence further mold.
- 27:30Speaker 2: That's why my Bible is the New Living Translation, because
- 27:33Speaker 2: I need just regular English words, man, because once you
- 27:35Speaker 2: say furthermore, whence hence after, I'm out. So I got
- 27:42Speaker 2: him in there, slowly, but surely over the years, as
- 27:45Speaker 2: contracts would inspire, I would take the lawyer out of this,
- 27:49Speaker 2: take the lawyer out of that. And then I got
- 27:51Speaker 2: smarter and I said, I don't really need an agent.
- 27:54Speaker 2: You know, I got some agents that do IMG does
- 27:57Speaker 2: some stuff like we're in partnership with miss Universe and stuff,
- 28:01Speaker 2: and that's a whole nother story. But we in business
- 28:05Speaker 2: with some stuff, and I'll allow you to package to
- 28:08Speaker 2: deal for me. But that's between you and the network.
- 28:11Speaker 2: But as far as now in my life, now, nobody,
- 28:16Speaker 2: ain't nobody getting ten, ain't nobody getting five. I found
- 28:19Speaker 2: a way to just keep them out. And you know
- 28:23Speaker 2: that ain't bad business man. I'm just why would I
- 28:26Speaker 2: You're not doing nothing. I'm the one got to put
- 28:29Speaker 2: these suits on, to turn these corners and create these
- 28:31Speaker 2: jokes and solve these problems being attained and not you, man.
- 28:35Speaker 2: So it was a really blessing from God man that
- 28:38Speaker 2: taught me that side of the business. And it's bought
- 28:41Speaker 2: a lot more of the money to my side of
- 28:44Speaker 2: the dam.
- 28:44Speaker 6: And so when you do things like that, it obviously
- 28:46Speaker 6: allows you to pay more to the people that you have.
- 28:50Speaker 6: Why do you think that more people in Hollywood, the
- 28:53Speaker 6: beast of Hollywood, are not taking that approach?
- 28:55Speaker 2: Well, I just think, man, you get caught up in
- 28:57Speaker 2: the system and it's comfortable and it's easy, and you know, look, man,
- 29:02Speaker 2: you gotta look at some of these big boys out here.
- 29:04Speaker 3: They make it so much money. You know, you look
- 29:07Speaker 3: at Tyler and Denzel and Samuel al and these boys
- 29:12Speaker 3: is I me and will will smell these dudes is
- 29:15Speaker 3: really making money? Man? You know, I mean they may
- 29:18Speaker 3: listen to me, they they make it. M they they.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Scraping it so and I don't really know their particular business,
- 29:25Speaker 2: but you know, if you make an X amount dollars
- 29:27Speaker 2: and you know, off to dribble and you comfortable, and
- 29:29Speaker 2: you got a team sometime comfort cause you don't wanna
- 29:33Speaker 2: have you.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Gotta get a lawyer. M you do have to get
- 29:36Speaker 3: a lawyer.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I'm just not finna pay you five percent. You know,
- 29:40Speaker 2: why don't you tell me what your hourly rate is,
- 29:42Speaker 2: how many hours it take you to cut this contract?
- 29:44Speaker 2: And even let that be your money. But you get
- 29:46Speaker 2: into TV business, it's like that.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Now.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I would think of Denzel cause he's such a brilliant
- 29:53Speaker 2: dude man and his wife paul Letta, I'm pretty sure
- 29:57Speaker 2: she done sat down figured this out.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Hold so and Tyler.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Tyler's a gangster two because Tyler, I think has done
- 30:04Speaker 2: more in our lifetime. Man, in this generation, I don't
- 30:09Speaker 2: think there's been anybody black that's been more successful than
- 30:14Speaker 2: this dude in terms of ownership. Now, the queen was
- 30:17Speaker 2: Oprah for a long time, Oprah ain't no joke, but
- 30:21Speaker 2: she teaches it to us. She then told me Steve
- 30:24Speaker 2: got to get ownership. That's Tyler's whole mantra. But I think,
- 30:27Speaker 2: what what Tyler Finney do of late gonna change the game?
- 30:30Speaker 3: He's finished, He finish, go past everybody.
- 30:33Speaker 5: So just really quick.
- 30:34Speaker 6: So even like the shows that had your name as
- 30:36Speaker 6: a title, So we had to Steve Harvey Show was
- 30:39Speaker 6: on WD and obviously you have to see Harvey Show
- 30:41Speaker 6: on NBC Talk show the license in the name or
- 30:45Speaker 6: how does that work? There was no ownership of ours.
- 30:47Speaker 2: See, I didn't get I wasn't a business man when
- 30:49Speaker 2: Steve Harvey Show was out, was just happy to.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Be on TV. You know. I just took my check
- 30:53Speaker 3: and went out and said I owned twelve percent.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Of the show back in. But I learned real quick.
- 30:57Speaker 2: In Hollywood, you never see back in. They got a
- 31:00Speaker 2: different type of arithmetic. It's like the music industry. The only
- 31:05Speaker 2: people that you make true back in with is book people.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Book people are the most honest people I've ever done
- 31:11Speaker 2: business with.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Books. They're honest. Music and TV, you're.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Not gonna get no back in partner, how man, By
- 31:22Speaker 2: the time they get through doing their arithmetic.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I ain't made back in.
- 31:25Speaker 4: On none of my shows ever, because they're saying they
- 31:28Speaker 4: didn't hit the numbers that they were supposed.
- 31:29Speaker 5: To hit, even in syndication.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Bro Steve Harvey show never saw back in. Never. I
- 31:37Speaker 3: just it's just crazy, man.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So I started figuring that out and knowing, Okay, you
- 31:43Speaker 2: know my business with Freemantle, which is one of the
- 31:45Speaker 2: best companies I've ever dealt with. They're very honest and forthright.
- 31:49Speaker 2: But when I signed a deal to do Family Feud,
- 31:52Speaker 2: you know, look, man, Family Feud was a twenty year
- 31:54Speaker 2: franchise and they had owner ship and they couldn't get
- 31:58Speaker 2: you know, I was going through tax problems back there.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I just wanted to check. So I took the check.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Over the years, I still couldn't get ownership. But since
- 32:08Speaker 2: I can't get ownership, I'll tell you what, though, I'll
- 32:11Speaker 2: tell you what. I might not have ownership, but you
- 32:13Speaker 2: don't feel like I'm won. And so we've negotiated really
- 32:17Speaker 2: nicely with them and me.
- 32:18Speaker 5: The longest running host in the history of the show.
- 32:21Speaker 3: And it's the number one syndicated show on Earth.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Speaking of Family Fud, so you have an unprecedented deal
- 32:28Speaker 4: with Family Feud where you actually produced the.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Show in Africa.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Yeah, which I believe is number one in Ghana and
- 32:35Speaker 4: South Africa.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So talk about that. Well, that was funny, man. I
- 32:41Speaker 3: was sitting up one day.
- 32:43Speaker 2: I was in Boswana at the Diamond Council thing, which
- 32:47Speaker 2: is another business I was interested in. So I was
- 32:50Speaker 2: over there at the Diamond Council conference in Boswana and
- 32:54Speaker 2: I picked up the phone. I called Brandon and it
- 32:57Speaker 2: was just one day. I was sitting there, man, and
- 32:59Speaker 2: I saw a facility. I said, Man, you know what
- 33:01Speaker 2: really be funny to do Family Feud in Africa.
- 33:05Speaker 3: So I picked up the phone and called Brandon.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Because the thing I love about Brandon is he don't
- 33:11Speaker 2: never ask me, no, why are we gonna Because he
- 33:15Speaker 2: don't know.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I don't want to hear that.
- 33:17Speaker 2: See the thing that's important thing about people around me
- 33:20Speaker 2: that I hire when I when I have a vision
- 33:23Speaker 2: and God showed me something, I call you and tell
- 33:26Speaker 2: you to do it. Don't start telling me why it
- 33:29Speaker 2: won't work. I don't want to hear that. I already
- 33:32Speaker 2: know it's gonna be hard to do. I already know
- 33:36Speaker 2: it's gonna be obstacles I don't want to hear that.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I want you to show me how we can do it.
- 33:41Speaker 2: So I picked up phone and I said Brandon. He said, yeah, man,
- 33:44Speaker 2: what's happening? I said, my men boswanna man, how is it?
- 33:46Speaker 2: La da da dah dah. I said, hey, man, call Fremantle.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I want to I want to do Family Feud in Africa.
- 33:58Speaker 2: He said, okay, tell me what you want to do.
- 34:00Speaker 2: I said, I want to do the show Family Feud
- 34:03Speaker 2: in Africa. Hey man, hey man, let me know what
- 34:08Speaker 2: they say clear and I know I think we a
- 34:13Speaker 2: mind it something. But this dude, man, he don't call
- 34:17Speaker 2: me back with no excuses. Do you know, Man, as
- 34:20Speaker 2: long as we've been together, this brother has never given
- 34:22Speaker 2: me a single excuse. Because that's one thing I'm really
- 34:26Speaker 2: I don't I don't do excuses, man, don't. Please don't
- 34:29Speaker 2: tell me an excuse that serves us no good an excuse.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I don't do excuses. I've never given anybody excuse. When
- 34:37Speaker 2: I make a mistake, I just eat mine. I don't
- 34:40Speaker 2: do excuses, so please don't tell me your excuse. Brandon
- 34:45Speaker 2: Williams has never given me an excuse. He got on
- 34:48Speaker 2: that phone. I said, Brandon, how it's going, man, He said, Man,
- 34:51Speaker 2: give me I'm working on a couple of things for
- 34:53Speaker 2: your Ah. Okay, cool. Next thing, I know, he said, hey, man,
- 34:58Speaker 2: there's a way we can do it. We can the
- 35:00Speaker 2: international rights.
- 35:02Speaker 3: I said, okay, boum.
- 35:04Speaker 2: He said, well it's gonna be a little caught. That's
- 35:07Speaker 2: that's okay, just go bound. He cut the deal and
- 35:11Speaker 2: he bought the international rights to South Africa and ti Ghana.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Then I said, okay, b let's go there and make TV.
- 35:20Speaker 2: He went, and next thing you know, he went over
- 35:25Speaker 2: there and everybody told him this was in what month
- 35:31Speaker 2: was at we started talking?
- 35:36Speaker 3: That was probably.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Told him in February March, and they say it would
- 35:42Speaker 2: take a year and a half to get this set up.
- 35:45Speaker 2: That was in February. In November, we was taping because
- 35:50Speaker 2: Brandon and now what you're talking about, we're gonna get
- 35:52Speaker 2: on TV now.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And so I go to Africa and we're over there
- 35:57Speaker 3: and their mouth is.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Open because they couldn't believe it. Wait a minute, you're
- 36:01Speaker 2: a major TV star in the United States. You're gonna
- 36:06Speaker 2: come to Africa in our studio and shoot this show.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Yeah? Oh you're a host? Yeah, our host the show
- 36:15Speaker 3: because ain't nobody gonna do it like me? So let
- 36:18Speaker 3: me go on. How long did that take to do
- 36:20Speaker 3: the season or how many episodes?
- 36:22Speaker 2: It is twenty twenty six episodes because they do a
- 36:26Speaker 2: weekly show, it's like an American TV season. It's twenty
- 36:30Speaker 2: two episodes weekly. That's an American TV show. They wanted
- 36:34Speaker 2: a full season, we gave them twenty six episodes in
- 36:37Speaker 2: Ghana and twenty six episodes in the US.
- 36:39Speaker 3: In South Africa. How long did that take? It took
- 36:45Speaker 3: about a month or so to get it all together.
- 36:48Speaker 3: It took.
- 36:48Speaker 2: It was a lot of because now, man, we got
- 36:50Speaker 2: to get questions that's unique.
- 36:52Speaker 3: To South Africa, pole in Poland.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Because I'm asking people questions, I have no idea what
- 36:57Speaker 2: this answer. Because I was then, what's your favorite dish
- 37:02Speaker 2: in Africa?
- 37:02Speaker 3: Bunny chop? The hell is that bunny chop? And I'm
- 37:07Speaker 3: looking at do like the fried chicken clearly has to
- 37:11Speaker 3: be the number one aff and they would say stuff
- 37:14Speaker 3: like pop pop, the hell is pop?
- 37:17Speaker 2: Though all this stuff was on the board, so it
- 37:20Speaker 2: was really funny. And then it was a language barrier
- 37:24Speaker 2: because the accents. There's two thousand languages in Africa and
- 37:30Speaker 2: you got tribes coming in as families, man dressing up
- 37:34Speaker 2: and they use they speaking English, but they have heavy
- 37:38Speaker 2: accents to me, but I'm the one on everybody understood
- 37:42Speaker 2: them except me.
- 37:43Speaker 3: I'm the one with the accent.
- 37:44Speaker 2: And they names, We couldn't even fit their names on
- 37:47Speaker 2: the cards. I mean they got some names man that
- 37:50Speaker 2: you'd have to put a name plate on these people.
- 37:54Speaker 2: And it was so funny, man, it was. It was
- 37:58Speaker 2: the funniest. It's the funniest show I've ever done.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Was that. And then once we got it on the air.
- 38:05Speaker 2: They couldn't believe we it did it and then it
- 38:07Speaker 2: aired and we were the number show in South Africa
- 38:11Speaker 2: and the number one show in Ghana.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Is that their plans to expand to other countries in Africa,
- 38:18Speaker 6: particularly English speaker ons.
- 38:20Speaker 3: My goal is to do like World Cup.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Family feud, where I want to do it in a
- 38:29Speaker 2: big facility and I want to bring in country against country.
- 38:34Speaker 2: I want to have Ghana against the Congo, Egypt against Kenya,
- 38:41Speaker 2: South Africa against Barcejuanas versus. I want to have them
- 38:45Speaker 2: in there with flags because they so enthusiastic.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Man.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Because Number one, when I finally went over there to
- 38:51Speaker 2: start taping. The whole thing was, so you are coming,
- 38:57Speaker 2: so Steve Hobby, it's really come through Africa.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, man, we believe that when Uncle Steve comes
- 39:06Speaker 3: to I believe it when we see it.
- 39:08Speaker 2: So when we went there and we started taping, it
- 39:10Speaker 2: was mind blowing. It was such a popular show man
- 39:14Speaker 2: and it worked.
- 39:16Speaker 3: And I hear that Africa and the UAE have you
- 39:20Speaker 3: have businesses in both. But let's talk about Africa. System's
- 39:23Speaker 3: talking about Africa.
- 39:24Speaker 4: You see a lot of opportunity in Africa, right, like
- 39:27Speaker 4: outside of just doing the show, I understand that, you know,
- 39:30Speaker 4: you're looking at Africa as a place to do investments
- 39:33Speaker 4: and things down nature. Talk about that as far as
- 39:34Speaker 4: because we actually had the opportunity to go to Africa
- 39:36Speaker 4: for the first time a few months ago, went to
- 39:38Speaker 4: Nigeria and we went to Egypt. And it was due
- 39:41Speaker 4: for us because the way, you know, people was tapped
- 39:42Speaker 4: in with our podcasts out there.
- 39:43Speaker 3: They love us out there and they were saying.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Like, maybe you should do this out here, you should
- 39:46Speaker 4: do an actual Eyo university, Like here we're actually teaching
- 39:50Speaker 4: people about financial literacy and just to see the enthusiastic spirit.
- 39:54Speaker 4: It just let me know that there's so much room
- 39:57Speaker 4: for opportunity out there, like just from us looking at
- 40:00Speaker 4: so I'm curious to hear your standpoint.
- 40:03Speaker 3: But see for you all to go over there is
- 40:05Speaker 3: brilliant because you all are forming the bridge. That's my goal,
- 40:11Speaker 3: is to create the bridge between African Americans and Africans
- 40:15Speaker 3: because there's more of a similarity than we Like. When
- 40:18Speaker 3: you was over there, it looked like you recognized all
- 40:21Speaker 3: of them. They look just like Detroit. He thought you
- 40:25Speaker 3: was in Philly. I mean the way they walk everything
- 40:29Speaker 3: I thought.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I saw so many people I knew because we are
- 40:33Speaker 2: so similar in design, the way we walk, the way
- 40:36Speaker 2: we move.
- 40:37Speaker 3: It was just amazing. But what we got to do, man,
- 40:40Speaker 3: is create that bridge.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Like brothers like yourself who go over there, whose podcast
- 40:46Speaker 2: is probable, but who can teach and share what we know.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You know, I'm trying, Like all the young Africans want
- 40:54Speaker 2: to come to America. But I tell them, I said, look, man,
- 40:58Speaker 2: you sure, you sure you want to come over here
- 41:01Speaker 2: and be in this This is what you think it is.
- 41:05Speaker 2: See when I'm in Ghana or South Africa and I
- 41:09Speaker 2: get stopped by the police.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Guess what I get. I get a warning, I get
- 41:15Speaker 3: a ticket, or I'll give them a hundred dollars in
- 41:17Speaker 3: I drive home and I got a hundred dollars. So
- 41:23Speaker 3: chances are I ain't got a ticket. Check to be
- 41:26Speaker 3: speeding my ass off.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I've never since I been over there, saw on the
- 41:33Speaker 2: news or nothing that somebody got pulled over by the
- 41:36Speaker 2: police and got shot.
- 41:39Speaker 3: They don't shoot you in Africa.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I said, man, y'all, sure, y'all won't come over here
- 41:43Speaker 2: because you all don't understand that. And then when you're
- 41:45Speaker 2: in South Africa you hear about the difference between the
- 41:48Speaker 2: blacks and the colors. I said, well, let me help
- 41:50Speaker 2: you out with that. You come to America, you ass
- 41:54Speaker 2: is black. You can call them colors over here if
- 41:56Speaker 2: you want to, and you can call them black. But
- 41:58Speaker 2: you come to the United States, your ass is fit
- 42:00Speaker 2: to be black. So you sure you want to come
- 42:02Speaker 2: over here. I think it's more beneficial for us to
- 42:06Speaker 2: go home. See, this is how I describe it. America
- 42:11Speaker 2: is my home. This is my home, my children in here,
- 42:15Speaker 2: my grandchildren in here, A lot of my.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Business is here, But Africa is my homeland.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Me going to Africa is like going to a place
- 42:25Speaker 2: called home that I've never been. When you land in Africa,
- 42:29Speaker 2: you immediately feel good, don't you. Doug is crazy because
- 42:36Speaker 2: you home, Doug, this is where you're from. You'll feed
- 42:39Speaker 2: me along on this soil we was ripped from there.
- 42:43Speaker 2: So when I'm going to Africa, man, it's the place
- 42:45Speaker 2: I get to walk around and I'm good all the
- 42:48Speaker 2: time because the majority of the people look just like
- 42:51Speaker 2: me everywhere I go, and that's a warm feeling.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Man.
- 42:56Speaker 2: And if I could take what we've learned over here
- 43:00Speaker 2: as African Americans and share that with them and empower them,
- 43:06Speaker 2: that becomes great. But I think what people don't understand
- 43:09Speaker 2: is how rich of a continent Africa really is.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Do you realize, man, it's the.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Only country in the world that don't have to import nothing.
- 43:20Speaker 2: They don't need your food, they don't need your energy,
- 43:24Speaker 2: they don't need your gold, they don't need your diamonds,
- 43:27Speaker 2: they don't need your cold, down't need your uranium, they
- 43:30Speaker 2: don't need your plant they don't need nothing. Africa is
- 43:33Speaker 2: the only country in the world that they don't need
- 43:35Speaker 2: your oil. You they ain't got to import nothing. But
- 43:40Speaker 2: they've been over there just raped colonialization, the Dutch, the Portuguese,
- 43:47Speaker 2: the Spanish, the French, the Chinese.
- 43:49Speaker 3: They just over there just raping them, man.
- 43:53Speaker 2: And so if we can go over there because they
- 43:56Speaker 2: got they got hey, man, they got money over there.
- 43:58Speaker 3: They got some dudes over there. That's just making some
- 44:01Speaker 3: I was.
- 44:01Speaker 6: It had me thinking, But as you said, everything is true,
- 44:04Speaker 6: and it was like, all right, you were going to
- 44:06Speaker 6: the UAE and not only bringing any food to Africa
- 44:09Speaker 6: but bringing festivals, and we were supposed to meet at
- 44:12Speaker 6: the last one ye, So why was it important to
- 44:16Speaker 6: do it specifically in the UAE.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Well, See, the UAE is very different from me.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I'm accepted over there, like like I never thought I would.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Be, because the ua for me is like it's like
- 44:34Speaker 3: they like brothers. Man.
- 44:35Speaker 2: I mean, I'm I'm so enamored with the UAE. Now
- 44:41Speaker 2: the draw for me in the UAE, it.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Is unbelievable peace.
- 44:47Speaker 2: If you want to go somewhere and walk down the
- 44:51Speaker 2: street and not have to worry about crime. If you
- 44:55Speaker 2: want to go somewhere and walk down the street and
- 44:57Speaker 2: not have to worry about racism, police, brutality, corrupt government,
- 45:04Speaker 2: then go to the UAE.
- 45:05Speaker 3: In the Middle East.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, I don't know of a
- 45:09Speaker 2: place on earth like it. There's no crime, don't buy
- 45:15Speaker 2: steal your car.
- 45:16Speaker 3: They don't steal cars over that.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Ain't no shootings, ain't no armed robberies. Ain't nobody getting stabbed.
- 45:24Speaker 3: Where's this? Look, man, I can take a cigar and
- 45:29Speaker 3: walk down the beach. All I'm gonna.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Do is have to take selfiesh And they're polite and
- 45:36Speaker 2: they're respectful. And it's because of their culture and their faith, man,
- 45:40Speaker 2: that makes them who they are. That you get a
- 45:44Speaker 2: clear picture there of what Islam is. It's not what
- 45:50Speaker 2: it's made to be in the propaganda machine. Everybody you
- 45:53Speaker 2: walk by ain't feeling to pull a cord and blow
- 45:55Speaker 2: up the market.
- 45:56Speaker 3: That ain't what's happening. Man. These people, man, are live
- 46:00Speaker 3: in their life and they pray a lot of times
- 46:03Speaker 3: a day. Man.
- 46:04Speaker 2: And my business partner, man will be talking and he says, hey, man,
- 46:06Speaker 2: you mind if I go in the other room to pray,
- 46:09Speaker 2: And he'd have made me pray more because I'll be going, Man,
- 46:12Speaker 2: look you you pray all these times today?
- 46:15Speaker 3: Yeah? Man, and my business partner, he thirty four years old.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Let's do and.
- 46:20Speaker 2: I'm just going, wait a minute, man, how did they
- 46:24Speaker 2: get this way? And it's their faith in their culture
- 46:27Speaker 2: and it's the way they treat people. It's one hundred
- 46:29Speaker 2: and sixty nationalities that live in the UAE. I mean
- 46:33Speaker 2: they got everybody. There's no homelessness, Ain't nobody living on
- 46:38Speaker 2: the street, Ain't no paper on the ground. Go to Dubai,
- 46:41Speaker 2: go to Dubai and apple doubt there's no paper on
- 46:44Speaker 2: the ground. Ain't nobody beg and got no cup jangling
- 46:48Speaker 2: it because no, we have a job for you. If
- 46:50Speaker 2: you come here, we have a job for you. The
- 46:53Speaker 2: only people that don't want to work over there is
- 46:54Speaker 2: because they don't want to work. Everybody's employed, every everybody
- 47:00Speaker 2: gets taken care of, but free medical everybody. That is
- 47:05Speaker 2: a very very special place to me, and I think
- 47:09Speaker 2: our company, melt UAE is where we can introduce all
- 47:17Speaker 2: what the Middle East is from that region to America
- 47:21Speaker 2: and the world and help with some of the falsehoods
- 47:24Speaker 2: that's been out about it.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Going back to the conversation about Hollywood, I'm gonna talk
- 47:29Speaker 4: about this because you said that you know the back end,
- 47:31Speaker 4: you never get paid on the back end, and like
- 47:34Speaker 4: we've actually had conversations about We had conversations with like
- 47:38Speaker 4: some Hollywood companies and we got talked about the back
- 47:41Speaker 4: end and stuff like that.
- 47:41Speaker 3: So it's interesting that you say that.
- 47:43Speaker 4: So, like, what are some things that you learned as
- 47:46Speaker 4: far as like do you always try to negotiate, like well,
- 47:49Speaker 4: just for young people that's coming up, like EP credit
- 47:51Speaker 4: or like get paid up.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Front or some level of ownership, Like what are some terms?
- 47:55Speaker 4: Because I feel like a lot of people just don't
- 47:57Speaker 4: know the information and you can't even ask a question.
- 48:00Speaker 3: And if you're not equipped with some level of knowledge, the.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Best thing I can tell you is if you have
- 48:07Speaker 2: an idea, before you go around the town pitching this idea,
- 48:14Speaker 2: have your paperwork in order.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Make sure you have the.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Domains for that name, make sure you have the ips,
- 48:23Speaker 2: any trademarks.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Before you walk around.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Pitching your idea, have everything on paper, get your trademarks,
- 48:31Speaker 2: get your IP. Because that's it ownership. Nobody's done it
- 48:37Speaker 2: better than Tyler Perry. This guy right here is complete
- 48:43Speaker 2: ownership of everything he do, so when he go to Hollywood,
- 48:47Speaker 2: he can do it the way he wants to see.
- 48:49Speaker 2: It took me a while to learn that part of it. Man,
- 48:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you something. Man, I don't know how
- 48:55Speaker 2: this is gonna go with the country, but this is
- 48:57Speaker 2: a a long time ago. In the ninth I created
- 49:01Speaker 2: the show on the w B called Steve Harvey's Big Time.
- 49:05Speaker 3: Do you know what Steve Harvey's Big Time was?
- 49:07Speaker 2: Because they didn't believe me when I told them, y'all
- 49:10Speaker 2: ought to take showtime at the Apollo and put it
- 49:12Speaker 2: on mainstream TV instead of having me come on at
- 49:15Speaker 2: one o'clock in the morning.
- 49:16Speaker 3: I used to tell them that, no, you can't do that. No, no, no,
- 49:19Speaker 3: no no.
- 49:20Speaker 2: So I said, well, let me give him a version
- 49:22Speaker 2: of it. I said, let me create Steve Harvey's Big Time.
- 49:26Speaker 2: So I went to the fledgling network WB and they
- 49:28Speaker 2: put it on. I didn't have the business of it.
- 49:31Speaker 2: I should have owned the IP, the trademark, cause you
- 49:34Speaker 2: know what Steve Harvey's Big Time was. I had acts
- 49:38Speaker 2: from all over the world come on the show. I
- 49:41Speaker 2: had three judges and I had a host that stayed
- 49:46Speaker 2: on TV two years. It ended May tenth, two thousand
- 49:51Speaker 2: and five. I was in the middle of a divorce.
- 49:53Speaker 3: My head was cloud I didn't have the business along
- 49:57Speaker 3: comes the show called America's Got Done. He's gonna say that.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Yep, you know what America's Got Talent is. Shows come
- 50:04Speaker 2: from all over the world, different acts.
- 50:07Speaker 3: They got three judges and they got a star. Well,
- 50:11Speaker 3: guess what. That's my ip, that's my concept, that's my
- 50:15Speaker 3: whole thought.
- 50:16Speaker 2: But I ain't had no business for it. Look, man,
- 50:20Speaker 2: the first year of America's Got Talent was all acts
- 50:25Speaker 2: from Steve Harvey's Big Time, and they took all the
- 50:30Speaker 2: producers I had from Steve Harvey's Big Time and gave
- 50:33Speaker 2: them jobs. If I understood my business, America's Got Talent
- 50:40Speaker 2: would belong to me, and Steve Harvey would not be
- 50:45Speaker 2: sitting here talking to y'all.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Thinking in my mind like I could.
- 50:51Speaker 6: Once you were describing them like I know what America's
- 50:53Speaker 6: Got Talent. Then obviously Nick Kennon another guy who was
- 50:55Speaker 6: doing incredible and media.
- 50:58Speaker 5: I feel like that could have been you hosting it.
- 51:00Speaker 6: But I want to go something because you said something earlier,
- 51:01Speaker 6: and it just caught my mind about the most honest
- 51:04Speaker 6: people being the people who.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Are writing the books.
- 51:06Speaker 6: And so I know you wrote you've written three and
- 51:08Speaker 6: the fourth ones on the way, but from those books,
- 51:10Speaker 6: you've actually turned those into movies. Right, So think like
- 51:14Speaker 6: a man obviously one of those those classic movie What
- 51:18Speaker 6: was that process like in terms of ownership?
- 51:20Speaker 5: Right, because now it's your ip, the book that's turned
- 51:22Speaker 5: into it. I know you're the voiceover in the movie,
- 51:25Speaker 5: and so what was that process like?
- 51:26Speaker 2: That deal wasn't bad for me, It should have been better.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I did once again, I missed a couple of points.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Now the book completely mine. I've made more money from
- 51:39Speaker 2: that book, man, I can't even tell you. And I
- 51:43Speaker 2: still get checks. They still send your check. I get
- 51:46Speaker 2: paid every April first and every October first, and I
- 51:50Speaker 2: still get checks from the book. I don't even have
- 51:52Speaker 2: to check on it. The book business is honest. I'll
- 51:55Speaker 2: give you an example, like when I go to a
- 51:58Speaker 2: book signing and I got to fly there or get
- 52:00Speaker 2: a hotel. If you're in the record business, they take
- 52:03Speaker 2: all that, they put surcharges on it, and they charge
- 52:07Speaker 2: it back against your deal and your record sales.
- 52:09Speaker 3: They don't do that in the book business.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Whatever your book sales is, whatever your percentage is, that's
- 52:15Speaker 2: your check. Whatever it cost to promote it, they ain't
- 52:18Speaker 2: got nothing to do with you. So the book business,
- 52:21Speaker 2: I found to be.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Very very clean back in for other stuff. Man.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Now, when I went to the movie, it was a
- 52:32Speaker 2: tough time for me because I was in a lot
- 52:34Speaker 2: of tax trouble. So I took a big check from
- 52:38Speaker 2: Sony for the rights, and then I made back in.
- 52:43Speaker 2: I made back in points on the movie. I did,
- 52:45Speaker 2: but I could have done better.
- 52:47Speaker 6: They have you involved in the process of actually creating
- 52:49Speaker 6: it and producing or nothing?
- 52:50Speaker 2: No, that was mostly will pack h They asked me
- 52:53Speaker 2: a couple of questions, asked me what I thought of
- 52:56Speaker 2: Kevin Hart, and I was sitting him here, going, I mean,
- 52:58Speaker 2: the little dude is come. He wasn't who he is now,
- 53:03Speaker 2: but I knew right away that dude right there because
- 53:05Speaker 2: he was putting the work in. Kevin was putting in
- 53:08Speaker 2: the work as a young stand up. His stand up
- 53:10Speaker 2: used to didn't be that good. He'll tell you that,
- 53:12Speaker 2: but neither was mine because he was. You know, he
- 53:15Speaker 2: worked mostly white rooms, and you had to be a
- 53:19Speaker 2: certain way to survive white rooms. My earlier in my
- 53:21Speaker 2: career was all white rooms until the Comedy Act Theater
- 53:24Speaker 2: got started and Joe Torrey came one night and saw
- 53:27Speaker 2: me at the Punchline and Buckhead and took me down
- 53:30Speaker 2: to the Comedy Act Theater in the nineties and said, man,
- 53:33Speaker 2: you ought to come see how they do. So we
- 53:35Speaker 2: went to the waffle house and I was telling him
- 53:37Speaker 2: stories about my father. Joe Tory was cracking up. He said, man,
- 53:40Speaker 2: why don't you tell these stories on stage? I said,
- 53:43Speaker 2: I can't tell it like that. And for the white folks,
- 53:45Speaker 2: he said, man, let me take you down. He took
- 53:46Speaker 2: me to Comedy Act Theater and a black dude went
- 53:49Speaker 2: up on stage. He had on a pair of pajamas
- 53:51Speaker 2: and they had a Barbie doll stuck in the pocket
- 53:54Speaker 2: of the pajamas.
- 53:55Speaker 3: He never mentioned the damn doll. He never mentioned them
- 53:58Speaker 3: damn pajamas. And all this fucker was talking about was
- 54:02Speaker 3: frying fish, and the black people was knocking shit over laughing. Man,
- 54:08Speaker 3: I was laughing so hard at this black dude because
- 54:11Speaker 3: all he was talking about was how to fry fish.
- 54:14Speaker 2: But every black person in there knew what he was
- 54:17Speaker 2: talking about. And he went through the different variations of hot, saucy,
- 54:21Speaker 2: what you got it?
- 54:21Speaker 3: And it was so black. They were just so black. Oh.
- 54:29Speaker 3: I was in that vomity. So the next night I
- 54:32Speaker 3: heard him.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Got finished with my senate at the punchline, so I
- 54:35Speaker 2: could go back down, and that's what I met Mike Williams.
- 54:37Speaker 2: He said, hey, man, going up on stage, let me
- 54:39Speaker 2: see what you gotta give you five minutes. Now, I
- 54:42Speaker 2: had been at the Apollo, so a lot of people
- 54:44Speaker 2: knew me from the Apollo. But when I walked up there, man,
- 54:48Speaker 2: I left my white act that I had written for
- 54:50Speaker 2: the punchline, and I was doing jokes about my father,
- 54:55Speaker 2: barbecue and and stuff. Man, them black people was knocking
- 55:00Speaker 2: shit over the I mean they was just raking shit
- 55:02Speaker 2: off the tables. And I had never seen black people
- 55:05Speaker 2: in the club, cause black people laugh different, They emotional,
- 55:09Speaker 2: They don't they hit people that they rolled with.
- 55:11Speaker 3: They they be in there. It it build and I
- 55:14Speaker 3: was in there, so I said, man, this is magical.
- 55:17Speaker 3: And it changed my.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Life because I started writing my jokes even in the
- 55:23Speaker 2: white club as my black ass self. And so what
- 55:29Speaker 2: I learned at that particular time was I could become
- 55:33Speaker 2: a crossover act. But the way I've always crossed over
- 55:37Speaker 2: is I build a bridge and I invite white folks
- 55:40Speaker 2: over to me. The problem with most blacks is they
- 55:44Speaker 2: build a bridge and then they cross it.
- 55:47Speaker 5: MM.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Then when the bridge burned down, the ass can't come
- 55:50Speaker 3: back home. M.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I build a bridge and a lot of white folks
- 55:53Speaker 2: come in the way I talk on family few is
- 55:56Speaker 2: how I talk right now. I'm not finna change that, man,
- 55:59Speaker 2: So you could be okay with me. Now, this is
- 56:02Speaker 2: me I've been told all the time, Like I tell
- 56:04Speaker 2: this story all the time. I was on NBC when
- 56:06Speaker 2: I first got to talk to you, and they said
- 56:08Speaker 2: they sent this lady in to talk to me.
- 56:11Speaker 3: And she was a leing. She was old, what is
- 56:17Speaker 3: it linguist? She was a linguist. I didn't know what
- 56:22Speaker 3: that was. So I thought she was in there teach
- 56:24Speaker 3: me how to fix pasta. And I thought that was
- 56:27Speaker 3: nice cause I've always wanted to know a little bit
- 56:30Speaker 3: about pasta. And so she says, no, I'm I'm your
- 56:33Speaker 3: ling linguistics coach. And I said, well, what you mean?
- 56:37Speaker 2: She said, NBC feels that if you speak more grammatically correct,
- 56:41Speaker 2: you'll be more successful on TV.
- 56:43Speaker 3: I said, oh, I ain't finna do all that. She said.
- 56:46Speaker 2: Excuse me, I said, I ain't finna do all that?
- 56:49Speaker 2: She said, could you say what you said slowly? For me, Sir,
- 56:51Speaker 2: I ain't I said, I ain't fitn't it do all that?
- 56:55Speaker 2: She said, That's exactly why I'm here. She said, do
- 56:59Speaker 2: you understand what we can become if you speak better?
- 57:02Speaker 2: I said, well, yeah, I ain't finna be about it though.
- 57:05Speaker 3: She said, excuse me. I said, I ain't sitting to
- 57:09Speaker 3: be boy that though. She so, Sir, this is exactly
- 57:16Speaker 3: why I'm here. I said, Man, I'm gonna ask your question,
- 57:20Speaker 3: I said, because I'm not finna change. She said, why not?
- 57:23Speaker 2: I said, let me ask you a question. Which one
- 57:25Speaker 2: of these sound better to you? I am broke or
- 57:33Speaker 2: I'm as rich? I said, see now you're talking to me,
- 57:40Speaker 2: but I'm as rich, I mean is rich? Now I'm
- 57:43Speaker 2: already rich. Sown where are.
- 57:47Speaker 3: You finnah go with this?
- 57:48Speaker 2: Now that lady packed her stuff up, she said this
- 57:50Speaker 2: black some of them. I know she wanted to say
- 57:53Speaker 2: black air bastard. She packed that up and walked out
- 57:56Speaker 2: of there. And I tell that to people all the time,
- 57:58Speaker 2: man said, by felicias, because I'm not dog, I ain't
- 58:03Speaker 2: finna do that.
- 58:05Speaker 3: Not changing?
- 58:06Speaker 5: So when did?
- 58:07Speaker 3: When did it? Actually?
- 58:08Speaker 4: Because you were saying you have financial hardship two thousand
- 58:11Speaker 4: and five, and you still was making some mistakes, but
- 58:15Speaker 4: in your state now, so obviously things changed.
- 58:19Speaker 3: Dramatically. So what was the turning point?
- 58:21Speaker 4: What was the turning point from you know, making mistakes
- 58:25Speaker 4: to actually going on the skyrocket?
- 58:27Speaker 2: I know, man, that this is gonna sound like cliches
- 58:31Speaker 2: and corny, but a woman, a woman, what was the
- 58:36Speaker 2: difference making in my life?
- 58:38Speaker 3: My wife? When I married Marjorie Mann two thousand and seven,
- 58:44Speaker 3: we got married.
- 58:45Speaker 2: It changed the game for me because for the first
- 58:49Speaker 2: time in my life, I was at peace because she
- 58:55Speaker 2: made me good with who I was. She kept telling
- 58:58Speaker 2: me you were made eat your TV star. Don't don't
- 59:02Speaker 2: believe us here, Steve, you look good.
- 59:05Speaker 3: You can do this.
- 59:06Speaker 2: You're talented, You're the best. And I had a peaceful home.
- 59:09Speaker 2: I had never had a peaceful home life before. Man,
- 59:12Speaker 2: I was coming home.
- 59:13Speaker 3: I wasn't sitting in the car looking at the door
- 59:15Speaker 3: for three hours scared to go in there. You know,
- 59:18Speaker 3: you probably might have been in something like that before.
- 59:21Speaker 3: I fortunately enough, but fortunately no. But yeah, you never know.
- 59:26Speaker 3: You know, faith, man, your faith? Yeah I know, but
- 59:28Speaker 3: you're gonna sit in that driveway. But even if you're
- 59:31Speaker 3: happy if you piss her off, you're gonna go sit
- 59:35Speaker 3: in that car, dog, because at least I can lock
- 59:37Speaker 3: these doors and roll these windows up in his car,
- 59:39Speaker 3: But if I sit in his house, I'm yeah. So
- 59:42Speaker 3: you know, I'm happy about that. But I was in
- 59:45Speaker 3: a horrible situation.
- 59:46Speaker 7: And this woman came along and gave me peace pieces,
- 59:51Speaker 7: priceless man, and I was able to think clearly for
- 59:55Speaker 7: the first time, and so I was able to start
- 59:58Speaker 7: seeing stuff.
- 59:59Speaker 3: Now we got huge.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I got in a huge tax situation in two thousand
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: and eight because my divorce was in two thousand and
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: five and my accountant had gotten in cahoots. And next thing,
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: you know, my accountant died and a girl that worked
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: for him called my lawyer and said, we have a problem.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: She had found on the floor all my tax forms
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: for seven years, signed and with the checks staple to them.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: So I'm thinking unassigned and unstaple of checks. Well, they
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: were cashing the checks, keeping the money, and not turning
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: into tax form.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: So your account that's why we interviewed Fat Joe similar situation.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: He went to jail for that actually tax evasion. So
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: your accountant, you how you.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Were signing the check Oh, so you didn't know who
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: the check was being made out to, Oh, to the government.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: So how did they cash it?
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Well, they didn't cash it. They took the money out
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: of their account that matched the exact cause I wasn't
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: watching it. Six hundred thousand, you get duck it.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: So I'm thinking it's the check. Little did I know
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: it was some people taking the money out for seven years.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: For seven years, how much money did that? I ended
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: up owing twenty two million? Wow, twenty two million with
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: the with the penalties. So now listen to me, man,
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: me and my wife. In two thousand and eight, I
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: get the call. And the way I found out was
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: my lawyer called me and said, hey, man, we got
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: a problem. You haven't paid taxes in seven years. I said, man, kich,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: what are you talking about. I paid tax I've been
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: writing the checks and all this here. Oh man, he said,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: this woman found your taxes in your accountant's office on
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: the floor. Every tax check I had written in, every
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: was stable together for seven years, quarterly taxes, all of it.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: So he said, man, that's tax evasion. You can go
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: to prison.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: And I said, what we gonna do? So he said,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: hold on, man, let me get some lawyers. So he
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: called up some tax accountants out of Chicago. These boys
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: was the best, and they set me down and they said, man,
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: we got a major problem. He said, I got a
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: friend work at dis let me take the first year.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: We took the first year and we sent it in
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: and he said, man, well this is an old tax return.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: He said, man, we got a problem. He got more
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: but he didn't know it, and so l we need
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: a tax payment plan. So the tax payment plan was
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: so astronomical that it was no way I could pay this.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: So the deal was if you.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Missed one payment, we come and seize all your assets
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: and you going to jail.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: That was the deal.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: So the way I found out I was in real
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: bad trouble was my accountants, my former manager lawyer, got
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: on a conference call to discuss it. But they sent
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: out an email with the conference call number to my assistant.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: But it wasn't supposed to go to me. She inadvertently
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: gave it to me. I wasn't even suposed to be
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: on the call. So when I logged in, they were
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: already talking and I just didn't announce myself, and I
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: heard them say, nobody can live under this amount of stress.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: There's no way he can pay the back taxes, pay
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: his current taxes and his living expenses.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: And I heard a guy on the phone say, what
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: are we gonna do when he goes to jail?
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: And I hung the phone up. I went upstairs. I said,
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Marjorie Dona, and Marjorie got a problem. When I explained
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: it to her, Marjorie started crying. She sat down and cried.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: My wife cried for two straight days. She says, Steve,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: what you gonna do? I said, I'm gonna go to work.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: I took every comedy gig in this country. I signed
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: every contract. I went to work. Man.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: I worked every single Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I went
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: to every venue, the Verizon Staples Center, MCI Phillips, I
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: sold out, the Fox I sold, I went everywhere.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: I stayed on the radio. Man, I'm coming, I'm coming
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: sold out.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I never missed a payment, And for four years in
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: a row, I was sending six hundred and fifty thousand
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: a month to the government, plus I had to pay
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: my current TAXI I couldn't get behind on nothing, and
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I was living so I was credit cards, running them up,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: paying them off and Finally, Man, in two thousand and.
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: Twelve, you got me thinking, now this is the paper
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: view event.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: Well it was coming to that. Two things happened.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Two thousand and twelve, I sold forty nine percent of
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: my radio company to iHeart. I got check, man, I
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: got me a check and then so I paid the
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: government completely off to zero.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: And that was the first time, man, I could breathe.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: And then the pay per view I said, let me
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: get out of stand up because my wife said, Steve,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: you fin to be a major TV star. You're gonna
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: have to stop telling the jokes you're telling, cause you're
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: gonna ruin your career because she saw the political correctness turning,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: and so she said, Steve, you can stop if you
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: want to.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: I said, maybe, I can't ever stop telling jokes. It's
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: who I am. She said, well, okay, but you gotta
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: watch what you say.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: And all of my TV shows are sponsored driven, the
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: radio sponsorship driven. I said, man, and let me get
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: out of this because I need time to go do
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: more TV. And so I did one last comedy show,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: but I did it on pay per view, and little
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: did I know, for eight dollars you could watch my
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: last I had no idea how many people.
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: It's gonna tune in for that. I made a lot
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: of money.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: It was the biggest single paycheck I ever made. And
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: next thing, you know, I was back.
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: About that house.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: I had me some money, man, return. I was back return.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: I had a nice nut sitting over there. I said,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: I'm back, man, and then uh things. And after that, man,
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: it was all because my wife had this vision for
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: me and she could see it, and that was to
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: turn around.
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: So the account you said he died so that you
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: couldn't sue his estatement, there was no there was no
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: course of action that could be taken.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: So it cause like the money that it's the same
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: situation with that Joe. It's crazy.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: So you lost the money that he took, but then
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: you had to pay that money in taxes and then pendal,
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: so it's like a double edged sword.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: It's crazy. Man. It's nothing but the grace of God
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: that I didn't go to jail how often.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: Because it's like, it's so crazy that this story, because
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: it's like fat Joe yourself, Kevin Gardner, Tim Duncan, like
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: this happens a lot. Like what would you advise for
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: people that as a learning experience, like just to always
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: watch your accounts a little.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: Let nobody sign your check, don't let nobody have access
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: to your money, even if it's your wife. You still
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: got to watch it yourself. Cause little did I know, man,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I I wasn't moving the money. The only other person
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: that could move the money had access to the account.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: So when you depart, when you're withdrawing the money out,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: like let's say tax with six hundred thousand and you
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: take exactly six hundred thousand out, I'm thinking that's the
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: check cleard, Oh it made They never okay, the.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: Exact amount, I don't care if it was. If it
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: was one point two million, thirty two cent, one point
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: two thirty two cent got took out exactly. So I'm
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: thinking I'm just looking at real going down the sheet,
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: not realizing that that check ain't clear. And that's what happened. Man.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I got burnt. And that happened for seven years of money. Man.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: So so you spoke about the marriage in two thousand
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: and seven that brought you peace. I want to talk
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: about generational wealth and I kind of want to change
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: the phrase of sustainable wealth because you have seven kids,
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: five grandkids.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: Seven and seven, seven and seven. Oh yeah, they had two.
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: They little machines right now cranking them out.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: And so I mentioned it because obviously maybe your children
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: have seen sumer the setbacks that you've had, but your
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: grandchick children will never see it.
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: They don't know anything about that, and so it's tough
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: for them.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: To understand the type of perseverance, the type of determination
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: resiliency to sustain the things you've been through. So how
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: do we teach from what you've been through to them?
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: You know, man, I ain't figured that out yet, because.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: There's even a hiccup between not the grandkids, but my
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: own kids. Okay, because look, bro, most of us that
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: are successful today oftentimes are the first ones in our
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: family to be successful. I'm pretty sure before Rick Ross hit,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: it wasn't no more. I know, before jay Z hit,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: it wasn't no more in his family. You know, we
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: ain't got nobody to go to to figure this thing out.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: So what happens is and then you say, as most
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: good parents, I want my children to have a better
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: life than the one I had, So you try to
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: protect your children from the hustling grit that you was under. Now,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: my kids ain't got to come up like me, figure
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: it out.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: And work through this and work like that. But in
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: that though, you've made a mistake. Because now.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: See, all of my children live their life as high
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: acrobats with a net.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: So if they lose grip of the handle, Daddy down
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: there got a net. I ain't handle net.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: So I was a high wire act and when I
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: slipped off, my ass hit the ground, had to get repaired,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: then climb.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Back up there. They got a safety belt on there
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: on the hunt, they're doing wild ass flips. It wasn't
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: nobody hold they hit the thing in the little cable,
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: pick them back up, and it's messed up. Man. Because
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: you and I talked about this with all the brothers.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I know that's successful. I don't know nobody to figured
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: this one out.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: Man. How do we teach our the hustling grind.

- 1:12:54Speaker 8: Buying a car in Carvana was so easy. I was
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: able to finance it through them. I just, oh, wait,
- 1:12:58Speaker 8: you mean finance. Yeah, Nance got pre qualified for a
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: carvanah auto loan, entered my terms and shot from thousands
- 1:13:04Speaker 8: of great car options, always in my budget. That's cool
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: that financing through Carvana was so easy, financed, done, and
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: I get to pick up my car from their Carvana
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: venue machine tomorrow by nanced. Right, that's what he said.

- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Will be trying to keep them out of a hustling grind.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: You understand, why would you not give your child an allowance?
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: And you have it? Why would you not?
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: So?
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: Now?
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: Plus you want them in the best schools, right, so
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: now you've got them in school with these white kids.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: They sitting up in here with the latest on iPads, iPhones.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: You can't send your little black ass kid up there
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: without that because you're trying to teach them how to
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: be tough, strong, wicked.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: No, you got to put his little punk ass in
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: the same outfit, say you know, cause come on, man,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: you can't have your child up there looking crazy. But
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: now you mad because they ain't got the same grit,
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: You got the same hustle. Like I look at them
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: all man, and I just go, I'm proud of what
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: they're becoming. But I know, man, that if something go
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: really wrong for him, they got me. But when something
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: went really wrong for me, my ass just had to
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: live in my car. I couldn't go to my daddy
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: and get a thousand for no apartment. By look, man,
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: I was in college for three years before I flunked out.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: My father sent me money one time. He sent it
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: in an envelope and it had two index cards, And
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: when I opened it up, it had a flat crisp
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: five dollar bill in it, and the note on the
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: index card was, this shit gonna have to stop.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: Man, You're going too far with this shit. This ship
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: got to stop. Five dollars man. Three years of college,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: he sent a five dollar bill and that was the
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: message on the card on their car. Up with man
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: had a day, So this shit got to stop.
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: I went on book course this much bro brod.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: I had a job all through college, bought books. Everything, mother,
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: father give me nothing wasn't nothing. Some center be going, Look, man,
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: my kid tatoy call failed to pay their short because
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: they forgotten. They come to me, we gotta get another car. Well,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: you ain't finna drive none of mine. I don't have
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: cars you can drive already none of my children. Here's
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: the only thing. None of my children have ever driven
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: one of my cars because I don't have drivable call.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: I ain't got no car.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: You go straight. I got calls, see and read. People
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: ask me all the time why you buy such expensive cars?
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: Calls.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: If this all go away one day and I got
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: to go back to living in a car, it's gonna
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: be that motherfuck gonna be nice.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: Saying them. I'm gonna be in in the backseat of
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: a fernom you want to seeping this out of the road.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: I got Refrench rate in now. I got lights in
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: the city. That's what I'm gonna be home to see
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: so quit asking me why I spend so much money
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: on the car, because if I gotta go live back
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: in that thing.
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: Again, it's a nice living nice I brought the family
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: piece because I know, uh, Laurie and yourself going into business,
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: uh with with Moono. So what I mean, what's that
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: process like knowing that one of your children has the
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: you know, the business act mean to say, I want.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: To do this, you know, Laurie, Man, it's really great.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: I got a few businessmen in the family, you know,
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: the two youngest ones, winning and Laurie figuring it out.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Laurie came to me and said she didn't want to
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: go to college no more. And I was like, I'm
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: be damn, that's a fine time. After I done paid
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: these money. You know, we could have had this discussion
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: for the tuition with it, you know, I can't get
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: it back. But she had a plan, and it's been
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: really amazing watching her grow and developed because.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: Of a couple of things.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Man, I'm so protective of her because I know what
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: she's up against, you know, and but she's always wanted
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: to be a business person, and so you know, you
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: watch your kids grow and develop. You watch them learn,
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: They make mistakes, as we all do. But what Laurie
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: did was Laurie has She's just always asked me a question, Dan,
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: what's it like for this?
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: What's it like for that?
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: And I could see her wanting more. But this Moon
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Culture investment that we invested in. But her skincare line
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: was all her, all the vision of her and her mother,
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: her and her mother. Her mother had this vision before,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: but she put it on the back burner and she
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: dumped it all in with Lourie. Because Laurie got smart.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Luri has a teen Louri has a CEO mentality. She
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: understands it now.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: She gets it.
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: You know, she been through the washer out here. She
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: know what this social media can be. She learned how
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: to make it more of a friend of hers than
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: the enemy. And she just got real smart man. And
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: she'll come to me and she'll go, Dad, I'm thinking
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: about doing this.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: What do you think? I don't always agree.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: But I don't have to because what's in Laurie's imagination
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: I don't have to see because God ain't gonna put
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: her imagination.
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: In my head.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: So since I understand that principle when LORI comes to
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: me with this what people think is this wild crazy idea,
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Like this girl right here is not gonna stop.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: Man. Her skincare line is good, she's into fashion, she's smart,
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: and uh, it's just a pleasure watching her.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: My oldest daughter, the twins, Brandy is on her own
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: with her beyond her element that she does speaking engagements Carly.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: That girl went out here married her husband who came
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: and asked me for her hand in marriage on a
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: golf course.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: I had a seven eye in my hand. I wanna
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: crack his head wide over because I'm finished. You find
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: time to ask me to marry my daughter and I
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: just lost this round of golf out here. And uh,
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: but he's a good guy. She got it together. She
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: has been Agent of the Year with State Farm now
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: for two years and a running this girl and open
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: up agencies and stuff. She's insurance business. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: what started. I started that. I wasn't never agent of
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: a year. I was stealing premiums and stuff. I was
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: at lower level. Yeah, some things because I had to
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: make some survival decisions when I was selling in shots.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: If you gave me your premium. But she's doing really,
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: really well. Jason, my other son, is uh in the
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: fashion business with his wife.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: He had a shoe line out for a while. It
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: kind of was hard to keep afloat. Now he's back
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: down at basel again. He's got his clothing line he's
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: working on with his wife, who was a model, the
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: runway model they met her. That's a long story, but
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: he's giving me more grandkids than anybody, and he's doing well.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: My oldest son, Roderick, works on all my TV shows
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: because he just wants he wants to be in TV
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: uh directing and TV production, so he's working as a
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: second stage director on stuff for all my shows. Winton
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: does photography on my shows, but Winton does videos. He's
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: did a lot of work with Kanye two chains, a
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: lot of artists and stuff. Went and travels to do
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: Bay work and he does work for the Department of
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Tourism over there. So when all of the kids, man
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: are getting it. They're not where they want to be,
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: but they're getting it.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: And I told them all.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: I think what helped him was I said I was
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: cutting everybody off and I didn't, but it felt good
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: saying it, but I didn't.
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: I told Laura I was gonna cut her.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: Off, and she just went, Daddy stopped. That was all
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: she said was don't play. Don't play because Laurie really
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: thinks she's the special one.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: She really does lurid. I told Laury I was gonna
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: cut off because she's making a lot of money right now,
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: and I was gonna cut her off. And she just
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: started laughing. And then she said, well, and you're not
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: gonna speak to me anymore. I said, yeah, I'll still
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: talk to you. She said, but not if you cut
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: me off. So can't cut her off. But they're doing well.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Let me ask you this.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: You're also an angel investor, so you invested in coinbase, DraftKings, Airbnb,
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: all pre ipo.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: How'd you get How'd you get in that world?
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Well, because I got a couple of smart people at
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: work for me. To Bed Stevens is the head of
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: my global business development and strategist. He brings a lot
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: of these things to me because you know, really, like
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: I said, man, I'm in the mental game of it.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: When it comes to the technical stuff, I just surround
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: myself with people who are technically smart. Now, Brandon is
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: not only my legal he's my COO. He's chief operating.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: He's in charge of everything and they all report to him.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: But to be d Stevens has bought me the majority
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: of these deals, especially in the tech space. All the
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: way I got this kid was I wanted my son
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: to help me run my company, my oldest son, Roderick,
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: who's in television. But he came to me and said, Dad,
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: you really want your business to grow? How I'm my
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: best friend. And I thought that was really smart of
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: him because he could have took this check. But he said, no, Dad,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: this is what he dos. He gragged them graduated magnum
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: cum Lotty from Morehouse.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: He had all these offers to go to all of
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: these Ivy League schools. He had full rides to go
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: to all these schools and stuff. And I was sitting
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: down with him one day and I said, well, how
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: much do it costs to go to these Ivy League schools?
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: And he told me, And I said, well, when you
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: get this degree at these Ivy League schools, how much
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: money will you make a year? And then he told me,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: And I said how many years is this gonna take
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: to do that?
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: He told me.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Then I said, well how much you and not already
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: spent going to school, and he told me. And when
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: he told me, it just didn't make no damn sense
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: to me. So I said, I'll tell you what, man,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: If you come work for me, he said, I'm gonna
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: be in exports and imports.
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna be taking big meetings. Oh, you're on big
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: meetings or you wanta sit in big meetings. I got
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: big meetings for your ass tomorrow. And so I hired
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: him and gave him a salary that'll save all that
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: going to school for it. And how many years has
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: been now bade seven years? And and the way we
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: started was I took four hundred thousand dollars, gave him
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: four hundred thousand dollars and said, hey, man, show me
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: what you would do in the stock market. Four hundred thousand.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: Just give him an.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: When I tell you that, he gave me ten times
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: that money in two years and then has quadrupled to
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: get that money. Just sent over there making money.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: And stocks, all his picks and stocks, all his every
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: last one of them. I'm I'm in some of those
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: companies get a market Monday. Yeah, But that dude right
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: there and that and that's what it takes, you know, Yeah, I.
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: Mean we're having conversations for over the course of a
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: few months. You probably didn't know this part though, So
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: to Bed was part of a team, and we got
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: to give credit to Chad kat Right. Eighty five South guys,
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: they you know, found us early on to work for you, Chad.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: That's yeah.
- 1:25:22Speaker 6: So all the all the things that they learned from
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: working around you, they implemented and told us.
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: So we were like, Okay, this is great information.
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: And so when I was talking to TVD about it,
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: he was like, yeah, man, we all used to sit
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: in the same room and so indirectly all the lessons
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: you've been teaching them.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good lesson. Yeah.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: Actually you probably wasn't even aware of that. But really
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: each one teach one situation because Chad used to work
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: for you, and he built the eighty five South business
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: structure mainly based on the stuff that he learned from you,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: and he's been a mentor for us.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: When we you know, getting in again. Yeah, we got
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: got our lawyer from him. Chad been a mentor for y'all.
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: Yeah, and vice versa, vice versus.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: Wow, he's been telling us a lot of stuff about
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: how to run merch gave us the entertainment.
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: Lawyer that we have all the lessons that you. I mean,
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: every time he tells us a lesson, it's like I
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: was and that crew man, this is what they told me.
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: They always said this, They always said this, and now
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: he's implemented on his own. And since we were just
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: starting in the media space, he was just giving us
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: the advice that he learned from y'all.
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: And so like indirectly, him and him and.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: His cat Joe, they were spilling and they were just bright. Man,
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: they were just bright. We just got into a situation
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: with my former manager and that's all. But they I
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: stayed in touch with him because I always believed in them,
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: and you know, we talk every now and then and
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: then I hear about stuff that they're doing. And I'm
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: just proud of him, man, because they got it. They
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: weren't bitter with what happened to him. See, sometimes you
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: got to get in order to grow, You got to go.
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: See people don't understand, man, when doors close, you can't
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: trip when the door closed. That's simply God telling you
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: he got another door. He wants you to walk through
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: the problem that most people do. Like during the pandemic,
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: a lot of companies close, a lot of people lost
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: their jobs. It's people still standing there. Open this company
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: back up. I want my job back up.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: I'm waiting on the company to get back and come
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: back in business. It ain't.
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: It's dog.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Most of these companies that's gone ain't coming back. So
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: you can quit beating on that door.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: Why don't you stop beating on that door, Stop praying
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: to God to open that company back up.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: Lord bless 'em to get back on their feet. Why
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: don't you stop beating on that door and turn away
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: from the door and walk up the hall.
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: It's some more dos? What hall ain't got no more dos?
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: What this is the This is the hallway of life.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: The hallway of life got more doors. You got to
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: turn up the hall and there's a bigger door with
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: your name on it. But if you stay there banging
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: on that door, you know, you can't drive your car
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: looking in the rear view mirror. You gotta look in
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: the windshield, the rearview mirror.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: That's why it's this small, that windshield that big people
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: can't get out of their own way because they in
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: that rear view mirror.
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: What would it be?
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: And I wish it had a should have could have
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: would have. Hey, man, stop all that, walk up the
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: hall and go see what else God got for you
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: before we leave. I gotta ask you about this Michael
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: Jackson story. I heard you took Michael Jackson to church?
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: Is that had of that? I got pictures of that day. Man,
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: that was one of my favorite moments. I uh.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: You know, Michael was in a lot of trouble mane
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: and he had a He had a publicist named Ramon
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: Bain and me and Mike was cool.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: Over the years.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: I always hung out with him and talk with him,
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: you know, like I was the only one that ever
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: called him the end word and stuff like that. I
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: just talked crazy to Mike.
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: He needed that, you know, he just oh, hey, man, hey.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: But I got no time for that. So one day
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: Ramone called me and said, Steve, Michael want to talk
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: to you. I said, it's up, Mike. He said, man,
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: I need to go to church. I just want to
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: go to church. And I said, well, he said, what
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: can you take me to church? I said, yeah, man,
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: I take you to church. Because Mike thought they was
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: gonna convict him. Mm and he says, Steve, I didn't
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: do this man, I just believed it.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: I just I've never believed that about Mike. I I
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: know him, I've been around him, and that's just me.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Everybody else will teach that last one that came out
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: he did it, that's you.
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: You don't know.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: I ah, where all this stuff come from after after
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: he did and then if you anyway, that's a longer story.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: But they just was doing this.
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: Brother.
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: So he said, hey, man, I want to go to church.
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: So I said, okay, man.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: So I called up my buddy chip Mary that owns
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: chip Mary uh episcoal Ame church over off of Jefferson
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: and Adams off for Crenshaw. Adam's over there somewhere in
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: that area off Crenshaw, and I called him up. He said,
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: Michael wants to come to this church. And I said, yeah, man,
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: he wants you to talk with him and pray for him.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: And so I said, Mike, I'm gonna come pick you
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: up and we can go to church. So Mike had
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: took the entire floor of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: gutted it and just turned it into his own place.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: So I came up there and Mike met me at
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: the door on a mopad because he was crazy.
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: Man. I said he had another one, but he said,
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: come on, let's go down to the apartment. I said, Mike,
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: a mopead dog. I'm six too, What is it? This
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: a little bit? So ride the mopeid down the in.
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: We get up and go in the place. And I'm
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: looking at this place and I'm going this because in incredible.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: He didn't gut it the whole floor and just made
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: it his apartment. Incredible. So I'm in there man, and
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: I said, Mike, we gotta go to church. It's black people.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: We gotta go now, you know.
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: We gotta get parking and everything. I said, Mike, did
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: you tell anybody who was going to church?
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: Oh? No, I wanted to be a secret. I said, okay, cool,
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: I told Chip Mary Man. We get in the car.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: No, first Mike goes to get dressed and he comes
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: out dressed and with Mike, fuck you got on?
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: So where you going? Man? What is this you wearing?
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: What's the matter? This is my suit? What you dressed like?
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: Cap'n crunch?
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: For?
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: Where's she going with all these balls on your shoulders? Military?
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: We're going to church? Man? You got one stripe on
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: one leg? I said, where your suit at? Man? Black
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: people wear suits ties. This is all I got, Steve.
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: This jacket is twenty twenty thousand dollars. I'm going what
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: the dude was spending money on stuff? So I'm laughing
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: at him. So we go get in the car. He said, Man,
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: this is great, man, is it are?
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: They have a great choirs? Man, they be jamming. So
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: we get down off the tin and we turn on Crenshaw.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: And it's cars from the tin all the way down
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: Crenshaw all up. Jefferson opts, people all on the side.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Where might go. I'm gonna what the hell? I said, Mike,
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: I thought, I told you, ain't tell nobody. I never
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: opened my mouth. Well, the preacher told somebody Michael was coming,
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: and the word got out. Let me tell you something, man.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: It was people from Belgium, Argentina, Amsterdam, signs from everywhere.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: People from all over the world flew in to see
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: this guy go to church. So we finally took us
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: a long time to get through all the crowd and stuff.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Police escorts got it about out the way. We get
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: to the church.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: It's packed this Easter.
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: It's a regular Sunday, it's Easter in hill Man, it's packed.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: So before the service start, I get him in the
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: back with the preacher chip Mary. Chip Mary prayed for Michael.
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: He told me, said, Mike, you're gonna walk away from this.
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: He said, God knows what you did, you good brother, youinger,
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: And he was so worried.
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: He prayed for him. Mike said, man, he says, I'm
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: gonna walk away. Say what these these people? He talked
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: God all the time with this black church man.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: So we went and they had a seat for us
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: in the middle, and we sat down and Boyd his
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: choir came out and they was jamming, and Mike's hat
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: was in his eyes, and Michae was just sitting there
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: just rocking.
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: Man. He was getting it, man. He said, this is great, man,
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: this is great. Oh my god, what are they doing? Phil?
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: He knew every instruments. Man, They went from a detour
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: e flat. This is amazing.
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: What you heard that? I don't talk.
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: He was in that.
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: Man, Oh my god, why are those people jumping up
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: and down? I say they shouting for what? Well? Probably
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: because you here. It was funny, man. So the whole
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: church service, he was just rocking. Man. He loved it.
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: And so he went.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: He said, I want to meet with kids, and man,
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: basement full of kids. They was asking Michael questions, is
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: that your hair? Can I touch your face? Mike was
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: just letting him touch him and everything. So it's news
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: reporters outside. Where my phone at? Man, it's my phone anyway,
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: I got pictures of the news conference and everything. So
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Mike says, I don't want to talk to anybody. Steve,
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: go out there and talk for me. I say, ain't
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: no problem. Look, man, Michael phones man. I mean everywhere
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: everybody was there, Steve, we want to talk to Michael.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: He ain't coming out.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: Not happening, and well, Steve, we won't talk, I say, Man,
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: Mike said, he ain't coming out, and he wants me
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: to talk for him.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: I go out in front of all the mics.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Steve, where's Michael we'll talking about? So Mike ain't coming out.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: We have questions for Mike, I said. Mike told me
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: to answer all the questions.
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: So go ahead. Why did he come to church? I say,
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: you know he liked church music. Why did he pick
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: this church? He said he did? And I did. I
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: told him which one to come to. Well, when's he
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: coming out? I said, when he come out, We're gonna
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: get straight in the car. We don't want to talk
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: to you. We want to talk to Mike. I said, Man,
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: tell you no, motherfucker, mo, Mike ain't coming out here now.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: We ain't in the church right now. So y'all and
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: you know this, this is me back in the day
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: for I had all these shows.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: I ain't had nothing to lose, doog, I'm lighting.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: They ass up, and I'm aggravated because the dude don't
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: want to talk to me.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: I'm going with damn. I'm all you're gonna get So
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: what does Michael do now? He's talking to the I say,
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: he's talking to the kids about what why are they
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: allowing children in the basement with Michael? I said, hold on, man,
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: where you going with this? Hire? I said, what I say,
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: press conference over? So I go in the back. So
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: we talk with the kids.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: Long to Michael and say, Steve, I'm ready to go.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: I said, all right, man. So I told us Katy
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: to go get the car bringing around. We walking out
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: there to get an umbrella for Mike and all this here.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: We walked to the car and we get in the car,
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: I said, Mike, listen, Man, it's people all the way
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: down here. I just want to shake their hand, I said, Mike,
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: you can't shake these people hand.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: Doug, you know what we are. We crush all this.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: Say what we finna do. So Mike's sitting over there,
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: and this ass roll the window down. Showe it by herself.
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: He rolled the window down. Man, he's fine. People was
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: reaching out there tying his clothes off. Oh yeah, they're
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: pulling me. I said, roll your wonder up. Shut up
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: all that wine and the shit. Mike can roll your
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: window up. You're gonna crush that hand. They fuck that hand.
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: And I got that window and this dude's hand was
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: caught in the window, he said. And so now the
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: car pick and I'm speeding. The dude is running with
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: his hand crushed in the window. So Mike said, Steve,
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: stopped the car. He's gonna get hurt, man, fuck him.
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: Were all gonna get hurt if we don't get out
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: of here. So I told dude, speed up, man. So
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: the driver sped up and I opened the window just
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: a little bit and he got his hand out.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: He said, Steve, you were gonna drag the poor man.
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: I said, did not tear your ass not to open
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: the window. Shit is your fault, Mike, He.
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: Said, you're crazy. He's just talking to me so crazy.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: I said, I'm trying to save your ass. You don't
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: know how to fight in here, talking about they're tearing
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: my clothes off? What is your hands? Fuck you think
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: they gonna do? So we get all the way back
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: to the hotel and they take us through the back
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: and Mike has stepped in some gum somewhat, so we
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: on elevator and he raised his foot up in his
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: gum down from his foot down to the floor. He said, Steve,
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: there's gum on my shoe. I said, And what the
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: fuck I'm supposed to do? I said, Mike, I don't
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: get gum off. Nobody's shooting man, but it's on my shoe.
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: And now security they off that laugh in the asshof
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: because nobody talked to Mike like that.
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: But it's gum on my shoe. What the fuck I'm
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: supposed to do?
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: Rub that ship off the elevator, opening them two down
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: mope heads, and I said, man, we ain't got time
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: for this ship.
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: Let's walk down here. True story.
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: I can't let you go because you spoke about your
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: wife and have from a financial standpoint and bringing peace.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: But she's also changed your style.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Yeah, we can't go to.
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: See my man. Ellie's here.
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: We gotta acknowledge that he transformation and the Steve Harby said,
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: we went from the big suits.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you couldn't tell me nothing.
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: You couldn't tell me nothing class in the classic airline.
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: You look at them suits.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Every NBA player from Magic Johnson to Michael Jordan had
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: them suits.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: That was a treasure dog.
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: They said, Man, we used to watch the Apollo to
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: see what you was wearing. And we get it made Michael,
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: all of them, they all know that. They all used
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: to come man them suits. Man, it was I was
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: king of the urban wear.
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: But you transitioned now at lettusage and now it's fine fashion.
- 1:39:37Speaker 6: It's gotten to the point now it's like I think,
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: like people are looking just to see what you're wearing again.
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: But in the social media world it's like like they're
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: turning it into a comedy at some at some places,
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: but other people are looking at it like, Yo, who's
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: who's dressing this dude.
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: Because he's fly? Yeah, see the hater, how was that transition?
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: Well, Marjorie, if you watched my wife over the years.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: She's she's it man. She's the fastest and fashionista. And
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: it started with her when she said, Steven, want you.
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: To change your suits?
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: And I said why, She said, because I'm tired of
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: being married to a pimp. I said, well, I'm the
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: damn you ain't had no problem. She said, well, I
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: just had to get you married. Further, she said, I
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: was gonna change you the whole long. So she got
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: a couple of tailors and I started.
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: Wearing some little Canali kitan suits and stuff like that,
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: and it was going okay.
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: And then I got this guy when I got to
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: talk show and all this here, and I wanted to
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: have a certain look. I'm a game show host, I'm
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: a talk show host. I wanted to be more mainstreams.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: So she took all the big suits off of me
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: and she cut the suits down. But I was one
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: note man, because that was the image I just wanted
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: out there, game show hosts, TV hosts, tie collar bar clamp,
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: cuff links, pocket square necktie, colors, shoe gators.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: That was it, and that went for a long time.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: The reputation on Family few was he dressed so nice
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: and all the people that have come on Family Feud
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: would try to wear two pocket squares because they thought
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: it was two pocket squares. It's really only one. I
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: just wore tom Ford pocket squares that had a border.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: Once you have a pocket square with a border on it,
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: when you pulled the middle out and put the board,
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: it looked like it's too.
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: So that was a little trick move I did, right.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: I was going along with that And then I went
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: to Africa four years ago and I started taping the show.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I had a problem with the guy. He couldn't make
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: the trip. He had some family issues. So my wife's
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: had been telling me about Ellie. She said, Steve, you
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: really ought to hire this kid. He's very, very talented
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: in fashion and you need to freshen up your look.
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: And I said, babe, I don't need all that, you know.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: And plus I had seen Ellie a few times with
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: Wynton and Lloyd. They were friends, and you know, I
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: just didn't think nothing, you know, But every time they
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: got dressed, they was calling him, what do I wear?
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: What do I do? And so when the dude didn't
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: couldn't make it to Africa, she called Ellie and said,
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: what are you doing? And he told her.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: Now, Ellie had designed something for me, some pajama sets
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: with Doce Cabano. Before that, I flew him out to
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: La to show me these designs. He designed these cold
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: sets for me and they were just outstanding. So she
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: called him and said, what are you doing? She said,
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: he said, I'm off right now. She said, get on
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: the plane and come to Africa.
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: Now, this is Marjorie. She don't play. So the next
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: evening he shows up in Africa. Well, the guy that
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: wasn't making it made it. He had the dinner too.
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: Okrah moment.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: Now we go to the dinner at this restaurant in Africa,
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: this beautiful restaurant called the Saint, and the only seat
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: of veil at the table they sitting next to each other.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: This was awkward.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: This was a very awkward moment. Man.
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: This was And so.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: One thing led through another and the brother had to
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: go home for family reasons. So Ellie stayed. And that
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: was the first time the first season of Family Feud.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: He was starting to style me and I was going, yo, man.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: So he says, oh, you're not wearing a pocket square today,
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: and I went, what are you nuts?
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: No pocket square? Who?
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: No?
- 1:43:34Speaker 8: Who?
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: You think you dressing and he says, we don't have
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: to match. We're going to color block. No, what you
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: mean we are f in the match. We're not finna match.
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: What No, we're fin the match partner. I'm from Cleveland.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: You know, my gators got to be the same color
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: as my hat, and my gators got to match my belt.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: I don't know what you're talking about. These are rules,
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: since that's old.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: So he started dressing me and color blocking and doing
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: all this stuff. I wasn't really happy with it, but
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: you know, when I come out to the dressing room,
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: all my sons dad as dope, and I was going, man,
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: this ain't that dope. And you know, it got on,
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: so it worked out for us. And then I just
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: noticed he was super organized. He was he took better,
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: took such great care to clothes. And then he started
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: showing me stuff. Mister Hervey, look at this, this is
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: coming out. This is gonna be the new collection. I
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: had never seen this in my life. What do you
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: mean new collection?
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: Stuff?
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: Getting the stoves? That's what I buy, stepanold Richard, a
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: little bit of tom Ford and buy some key time.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no, this is what we're
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: gonna do.
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: And so I got the show called Facebook Watch after that,
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: and they said, they don't want me to dress like
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: I normally dress. Would you wear your regular clothes? Now,
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: my regular clothes were different than my image was. So
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: he would go in the closet and start putting stuff together.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: Then he just started saying, let me, let me buy
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: some stuff and bring it to you. So he would
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: go out and shop and bring stuff to the house
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: and I would.
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: Look at it.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: I was fighting him all the way. He said, no,
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: mister Harvey, but you got to try it on. We
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: got to have a fitting. I used to hate when
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: he said it would have a fitting, and then you
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: know he said. Then one day he really pissed me
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: off cause the last year we was in Africa.
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: He said, mister Harvey, you need to lose some weight.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: You're making these fashions look ridiculous. And I'm went, oh,
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: you little skinny some bitch. You're sitting up in here
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: looking like a somebnie and you tryna tell him I
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: need to lose some weight. You don't tell him I
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: need to lose some weight.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: Okay. Cool kind of pissed me off. My wife said
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: he might be right that now when your wife say it,
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: then you I got to get my ass in the gym.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: We gotta get some of this weight off. And then
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: on Facebook Watch two years ago, he started dressing me
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: the way we just started on some different stuff. He said,
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: mister Harvey, what's the one thing you really want to do.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: I said, my wanma colors back. I used to wear
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: colors on Kings of Comedy.
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: That's what I miss. He says, But we have to
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: change your fit. He started narrowing down the shoulders, narrowing
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: down the sleeves. I was against all of this. Change
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: your fit, mister Harvey. You now don't have the weight
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: you can wear. The clothes are better and y color
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: blocking and blah blah blah.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: And then it just took off. And it started happening
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: a few years ago on Facebook Watch. And then he
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: did a special order on uh NFL Honors and that
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: took off. And then the guy that would run the
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: NFL Honors works for Celebrity Family Feud and call him
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: up and said, hey man, you should let Steve Harvey
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: dress on Celebrity Family Feud the way he does on
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: NFL Honors. So they cause I used to have to
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: wear the same suit on celebrity family Feud because they
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: didn't know what order he was going, So I just
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: wore the same suit. When they did that, I told Ellie,
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: do your thing, and then he just started setting stuff out,
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: and next thing, you know, he said, mister Harvey, let
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: me take your picture. Which is the one thing I
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: hate sitting up for a picture. I don't like looking
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: at camera and smiling and stuff like that. So he said,
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: just look now. So most of my pictures I'm looking
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: down or something or got a cigar or something. He
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: was taking pictures and then he would start posting it
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: and by accident, next thing, you know, man, fashion bomb
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: daily and boom, people started picking it up. And I
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: was going, what's going on? Because it was never my intention,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: you know, I just wanted to I didn't want to
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: hear my wife's mouth no more.
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: That's all it was for her to be quiet.
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: But this kid, Ellie is such an innovative dude, and
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: he understands how I am. And he don't bring stuff
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: that don't fit my body because still, all in all, man,
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: I'm sixty five, You dig you gotta let me be comfortable.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: Skinny jeans is for skinny people, you know. And then
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: we got a couple of rules. I will not wear high.
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: Top sneakers with a suit. I'm not gonna do that
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: for you. Yeah, I'm not finna do that. I see
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: all these basketball players and stuff. I'm not finna do that.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: I'm not wearing a high top sneaker with my suit.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: Now, we got some stuff on a Ricci alligator sneakers
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: I had made. I'll wear that with them. But they
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: look they look dope, and we get in a lot
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: of fights because I don't like a lot of the stuff.
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: But to give him credit, he's right ninety percent of
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: the time. And but when it comes to fashion, man,
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: the dude just said, mister Harvey, I'm gonna let you
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: be you. I'm gonna introduce you to these looks. And
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: he introduced them.
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: Some of it work.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: I put on some stuff and love it, and he'll go,
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: you're not wearing that, and I'll be going, well, the
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: hell I ain't.
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: Well, I don't want my name on it. And then
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: that's when I know I look like a fool, you know.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: But it turned out to be a great relationship, man,
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: And I think it's done a lot for his recognition.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: Really more so than mine because for me.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: It's an it's an added like an accident, but for
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: him its career changing because this is truly what he does.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: And I think what's gonna happen is I think this
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: dude is gonna be He's gonna end up before it's over.
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: He won't always work for me, because that's not how
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: I do people. I expect me to be a stepping
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: stone for most people like Chad and them cats like that.
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: He's gonna be one top fashion designers in the world.
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: He he will be what Virgil was. He will be
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: what Virgil was not for real when once somebody understand it,
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: he will be what Virgil was and Virgil was a
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: bad boy.
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: Before we leave, I know you want to talk about
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: the NFT project, the NFT project that dropped h Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: I got monkeys and how you feel about that, because
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: I'm like, I know, you old school, so to be
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: in a new world of n f T s, that's
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: that's whole new school.
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: You just have to listen. Man, tab D bought this
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: to me because I'm telling you it was a tough
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: sale for me.
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: N FT's what are you talking about, mister Harvey, buy
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: this monkey, because for me, it's just a little little
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: stupid ass face, right. I buy the monkey and next
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: thing you know, I'm in the magazine. I'm everywhere and
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: I'm sitting up here going to bed.
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: Explain this to me because he has to help me.
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: But one of the things about being successful, man, is
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: you have to surround yourself with people thats smarter than you.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: You hear the saying all the time, if you're the
- 1:50:40Speaker 2: smartest person in your group, you need a new group. Dog,
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: I got a new group because I don't know everything.
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: But these NFT's have been so interesting to me, and
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: how to be a part of it and participate it
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: and get on the ground floor say it out loud.
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: But that's for me.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: If I can own something, that's the deal for me.
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: It's not gonna change.
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: This new Judge show is like such a jump for me, man,
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: because it's like I finally got one.
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: I created this ip. You know that there's never been
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: a Judge show on primetime television ever ever. Dog, that's original.
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: That's an ip. I thought of it.
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: It's my show. I'm the star, and I own it.
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: Now with the numbers that this show is getting on
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: ABC or trust and believe this one right here, This
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Judge Show God willing, as my brothers say in the
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Middle East in Shilah. If this pops off, When this
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: pops off as God's will, this will be the one
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: that I can ride off in the sunset in This
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: will be the biggest thing I've ever done. This is
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: complete ownership. I'm the executive producer, I'm the owner, I'm
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: the star, the creator. What's going to shock them though,
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: and I'm not gonna say it on camera. What's going
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: to shock them is the next move I make with
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: the Judge Show. It's gonna be paramount. And you can
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: look for us on the global level. You can expect
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: to see some studios in the Middle East, you can
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: expect to see some studios in Africa, and Steve Harvey Global,
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: Steve Harvey melt Uae melt Africa. The conversations I'm having
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: around the world. Man, by the grace of God, because
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: he put all this in my imagination. Brother disgi's the
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: limit And all I need for God to do is.
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: I just need.
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: Thirty nine years. I just need thirty nine more years.
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: That's a long time. Thirty nine years a long time.
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna live to one oh four and then I'm
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: gonna push all the chips up to the window and
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: cash it head. But I'm gonna be on the boat
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: pepping so hard, I swear it god Man.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: Next time y'all interviewed me to be on the yacht
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: in the middle of the Mediterranean, I'm gonna fly y'all
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: out for it. We're gonna spend two days out there
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: smoking cigars and drinking a leeche martinis. A leeche martinis.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: You ever heard of that? I have a favor.
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: That's what you drink, Alchi.
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: Martini Martini, y'all. I had one last year. I ain't
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: know what it was because I didn't know what the
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: leachi was.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I never had it.
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: And when they showed it to me before they peeled it,
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: they had all them spines on it. Anybody eating that
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: they peeled it off made a martini? Yeah, it's good.
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: Oh man, you had one dog, real pluck.
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: Where you get them at New York in the restaurants,
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: Oh you in New York, not in Georgia. You get
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: a barbecue. My tita down here with a little gravy
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: on it because you and Georgia down here. Pardon it's
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: some areas down here where gravy is actually a beverage
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: gravy shaking that start. No, it's been a pleasure, brother.
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: This is actually probably our longest episode, but it just
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: seemed like it was just like could last forever because
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: it's so much information. And I'm personally appreciative because I
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: learned from actually asking questions.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: It's like an audience does so a lot of the questions.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: I was asking you because I personally wanted to know
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: myself to not make mistakes and to know how to maneuver.
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: And that's what it's really about mentorship. So I appreciate
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: you taking the time out of your schedule.
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: It was good, man, because I've watched y'all. Y'all deep brothers.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: Man, what y'all trying to do is educate, and the
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: more people you help become successful, the more successful you become.
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: That's what people don't understand. Man. You got I had
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: to take some time to share the knowledge.
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: You know. It's like.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: I went to Robert Smith's house and tell you his
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: quick story the billionaire, and the story is you got
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: thirty minutes. No one gets more than thirty minutes of
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: his time period. I was told that I done got
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: a jet on a flu to Austin to his house
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: cool for thirty minutes. Man, do you know how bad
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: I wanted to sit with this man to get a
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: jet and go somewhere for thirty minute meeting. Then the
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: lady explained to me, at thirty minutes, when I walk up,
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: if he does that, that means give him five more minutes.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: At thirty minutes, that lady walked right in that room
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: and he did like that. I said, well, I got
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: five more minutes, and I sat down.
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: We talked. She came back in, he did like that.
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: She walked away, She came back again. He did like that.
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: She didn't come back no more. I was at Robert
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: Smith's house for seven hours. I was leaving his house
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: and I asked his the lady who runs it, I said.
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: Can I answer your question?
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: I said, I was expecting to leave in thirty minutes
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: forty minutes. I said, why was I in this man's
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: house for seven hours? She said, you know why, Steve,
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: She said, cause you the first person that sat with
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: him for twenty minutes and ain't asking for no money.
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: Mm mm she said. So the question is, why ain't
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: you ask the man for no money? Cause he was waiting,
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: I said, cause I didn't wanna ask for no money.
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: I wanna learn how he made that money. Mm See,
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: I wanna be a billionaire. So what I needed from
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: him was information. The biggest thing Robert smith taught me
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: was to scale up everything you say in Steve, scale it.
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: You wanna bring three hundred boards your ranch?
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: How do you bring three thousand to your ranch? You
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: bring three thousand? How do you bring thirty thousand? You
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: wanna train thirty thou lies? How you change three hundred
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: thousand lives? He taught me that valuable lesson. And me
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: and Robert Smiths we've been friends every since. Man and
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: when he gave that money the more house and paid
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: off all them loans. Do you know he meets with
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: them brothers once a month. He meets with him once
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: a month. I was on the yacht for my birthday.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: He called me and says, Steve, need you join this
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: call with me on Thursday night. Man, ain't no problem.
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: Got on the lunch with him and set in, got
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: in on the zoom call with him. He had about
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: forty and fifty of them cats on the line set online,
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: and all I did was give them information about the
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: mindset you have to have for success.
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: You got to get your mind wrapped around this thing. Man.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: If you don't get this here, you got to have
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: successful thought. Everything I think is big, and everything I
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: try to think is positive. And I'm human. I have
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: my days, you know, when I have doubts, and I'm human.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: But right after that, whenever I think some working, I
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: do two things I start thinking of. I get grateful
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: and I immediately go into prayer. I get grateful and
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: then I just say, okay, God, I thank you for
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: what all you've done for me. Let me just shut
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: up and cool out. And then I go into prayer
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: and dog. What I have now is because of that.
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: It's not because like I'm the funniest cat out there.
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: You know, somebody asked me one time, you think you
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: that funny.
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: I don't know. I know enough people do.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: I got about I got a hundred million people willing
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: to give me a dollar. I made a few hundred million.
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: Now you might not think I'm funny, but I don't really.
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: Need you to make it. Don't do it there's a
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: whole lot of people hating on y'all, but you don't
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: need that one of Them's a fact, you know the
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: fact that I ain't never heard now one of Little
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: Baby's records. I wouldn't know a Little Baby song. He
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: don't need me asap Rocky. He got Rihanna. What do
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: you need me?
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: Dog?
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: I said, ain't South Rocket, went ain't South Rocket, Ain't
- 1:59:05Speaker 3: South rocket A South rocket? Got rihar What he need
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: me for? Hell if I know I ain't South Racket.
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: I don't even know what he do. I ain't got
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: to know none of that, man, Dog I was.
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: I was that dumb ass dude in nineteen seventy seven
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: when hip hop hippity hop, when that came out.
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: It was my last year of college. I heard that song.
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: I was at a dance.
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: I said, Man, this, this shit ain't gonna last. I
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: don't know what is hip hop. This ain't gonna last.
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: This will never make it.
- 1:59:37Speaker 3: They ain't even singing. It's no way this will make it.
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: I bought in my life, I can. I can tell
- 1:59:46Speaker 3: you the hip hop albums I bought.
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: I bought All Eyes on Me by Tupac, I bought
- 1:59:51Speaker 2: Death certificate by ice Q.
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: I bought jay Z's Blueprint. I bought P. D. Pablo's
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: Diary of a Center. Interesting. Interesting personally, that's one of
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: my favorite. You can't talk to me.
- 2:00:07Speaker 5: You was going it was, yeah, I was class classic
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: class tupac J.
- 2:00:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it felt. I know it was like y'all because
- 2:00:23Speaker 3: Dolly shut up turning around classic country ass.
- 2:00:34Speaker 2: And then that song he got, I was scraping up,
- 2:00:37Speaker 2: changeing an ass tray, two cigarettes, not a dime to
- 2:00:41Speaker 2: my name.
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: But man, it's a song about gratitude. It's a song
- 2:00:47Speaker 3: about man.
- 2:00:47Speaker 2: Where he it was its darkest moments and he just
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: didn't know how he was gonna make it. But when
- 2:00:52Speaker 2: he said I was down to a cigarette, scraping up,
- 2:00:55Speaker 2: changing the ass tray, that was me.
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: I played that song in my dress to the room
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: all the time.
- 2:01:02Speaker 5: P D.
- 2:01:02Speaker 3: Poblo Diary of a Center. They're gonna quit talking to me.
- 2:01:06Speaker 3: I played that for my son. My son said, who
- 2:01:08Speaker 3: is this country ass to I'm sitting here. I'm shocked.
- 2:01:13Speaker 3: You don't know. Pdy Poplo went to prison, came out.
- 2:01:17Speaker 3: I told y'all, everybody have it, but y'all wouldn't listen
- 2:01:22Speaker 3: to me. Now you got your see it popping off,
- 2:01:25Speaker 3: got you in the club, dancing your ass, salt, shake
- 2:01:28Speaker 3: it down, shake it down. Come on, man, I don't
- 2:01:33Speaker 3: even know y'all sitting up here to him. Y'all supposed
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: to be here, pop Foul those.
- 2:01:36Speaker 6: Number five though it's number five, that's four, it's about five.
- 2:01:39Speaker 2: The other album Okay, Petie Poplot, Blueprint Death Certificate, All.
- 2:01:44Speaker 3: Ees on Me, All Eyes on Me, and uh uh
- 2:01:49Speaker 3: out Cast speaker Box.
- 2:01:51Speaker 2: Think about blow oh yeah, that that double album that
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: was Cold. That was cold, the coldest album that seeing there.
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: When they wrote, uh, ain't nobody dops me, I'm just
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: so fresh and clean like that video like Key Key Mine,
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: like show Time at the Apollo minus the Key Key Sheppard.
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: When they released that, they came to the beat in
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: LA and I played it on my radio station and
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: a big boy say wrote this for you, huh, And
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: he played that line, Ain't nobody dopsh me, I'm just
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: so fresh and clean like show Time at the Apollo
- 2:02:27Speaker 2: minus the Key Key Sheppard?
- 2:02:28Speaker 3: Well, who else out there? Ain't nobody enough for me?
- 2:02:32Speaker 3: After that? You couldn't say shit to me.
- 2:02:33Speaker 5: Yeah, it's number one, number one selling hip hop album
- 2:02:36Speaker 5: of all time cause of me, number yes, number one reason.
- 2:02:41Speaker 3: No, I'll kid you, not them the five albums I bought,
- 2:02:44Speaker 3: But hip hop don't need me.
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: Look how many albums. It's the biggest music genre ever
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: created in the world. And Steve Harvey ain't about but
- 2:02:52Speaker 2: five of the albums what they need me for.
- 2:02:56Speaker 3: So when people ask me, man, you think you the funniest,
- 2:02:58Speaker 3: I don't need you to think I'm funny man, you
- 2:03:00Speaker 3: ain't even for you. Wasn't the funniest ones in the King.
- 2:03:03Speaker 3: I ain't have to be. I was on the Kings.
- 2:03:06Speaker 3: You take me off, and it ain't no kings. You
- 2:03:09Speaker 3: take Bernie off. Ain't no kings.
- 2:03:10Speaker 2: You take said off the m See like if I had,
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: you ain't asked me this. But that's pride right there.
- 2:03:16Speaker 2: That's the reason if I had a mount Rushmore comedy.
- 2:03:21Speaker 2: First of all, the trial is a mountain by hisself.
- 2:03:26Speaker 3: He don't. He don't.
- 2:03:27Speaker 2: You can't put him on this rock. He's a chisel,
- 2:03:30Speaker 2: whole plateau rock taller than the mount.
- 2:03:35Speaker 3: Eddie Murphy gets a plaque alone.
- 2:03:38Speaker 2: Okay, yes, legend, Eddie get a whole plaque by himself.
- 2:03:44Speaker 2: You can't touch Eddie when he comes to comedy who
- 2:03:47Speaker 2: Delirious Raw and then Satnday Night Live, but eyes three
- 2:03:56Speaker 2: times a maid day, My nu news Dog Buck Dog?
- 2:04:05Speaker 3: Are you talking about somebody sitting there on Saturday Night
- 2:04:08Speaker 3: Live crying? I'm talking about Dog.
- 2:04:10Speaker 2: I would go home and cry watching Buck Wheaton, Velvet Jones,
- 2:04:15Speaker 2: the Pimp and all this.
- 2:04:16Speaker 3: Hell. Eddie got a rock by hisself for me, that
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: Mount Rushmore.
- 2:04:23Speaker 6: That was for Outside of that, we got Defoe Ye,
- 2:04:27Speaker 6: Chris Rock Okay, okay, legend, Dave Chappelle, Yes, legend.
- 2:04:33Speaker 5: Yes.
- 2:04:37Speaker 3: Now it's hard because I know.
- 2:04:42Speaker 2: I know some things people don't know. Bill Cosby was
- 2:04:47Speaker 2: the most prolific stand up of all time twenty comedy albums.
- 2:04:52Speaker 2: Ain't nobody done that?
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: Dog?
- 2:04:54Speaker 2: This dude right here was masterful. But if you say
- 2:04:56Speaker 2: something about Bill, anybody, how could you like? People ask me, all,
- 2:05:00Speaker 2: how could you be friends with Bill Callsby?
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: Well?
- 2:05:02Speaker 3: Hell, I ain't no.
- 2:05:04Speaker 2: Well here, you know, you know they took all this
- 2:05:07Speaker 2: money from Bill, caused me, took his names off all
- 2:05:09Speaker 2: these buildings.
- 2:05:10Speaker 3: Ain't nobody gave that money back? Though? You know? Why
- 2:05:13Speaker 3: are you what?
- 2:05:14Speaker 6: He was? So?
- 2:05:15Speaker 2: I would want to put him there? But if I
- 2:05:19Speaker 2: had to put the New School in there, it had
- 2:05:22Speaker 2: to be Kevin Hard.
- 2:05:24Speaker 5: So the that's the fourth, that's the three three.
- 2:05:27Speaker 6: Oh so we're not putting, Okay, So we got three,
- 2:05:29Speaker 6: got one more start.
- 2:05:29Speaker 2: And one more the last spot. The Kings of Comedy
- 2:05:33Speaker 2: is a plaque together altogether. Yes, sir, My laws is
- 2:05:40Speaker 2: the most gift. My loss is the most What if
- 2:05:43Speaker 2: I said about Martin my Lawns is the best mimicker
- 2:05:47Speaker 2: I've ever been around in my life.
- 2:05:49Speaker 3: What he did on death jam was unthinkable.
- 2:05:52Speaker 2: He's the best mimicker, the most talented, versatile stand up
- 2:05:58Speaker 2: ever born on this planet.
- 2:05:59Speaker 3: Which Jamie four Jamie Fox another one. But I'm telling you,
- 2:06:04Speaker 3: but we can't put everybody on this round.
- 2:06:07Speaker 5: Now.
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: I'm impartial because I'm one of the Kings, but I
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: know what the Kings did for black comedy.
- 2:06:13Speaker 3: I know what it was. Man.
- 2:06:15Speaker 2: It launched you can ask Kevin. It launched a Kevin Hart.
- 2:06:23Speaker 2: There's no Cat Williams. There's no Kevin, There's no there's
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: no none of these dudes. Man Earthquake. Who is a
- 2:06:32Speaker 2: bad boy?
- 2:06:33Speaker 3: You know?
- 2:06:33Speaker 2: Bill Bellamy A Dale gives Monique Samora uh Man, that
- 2:06:39Speaker 2: Teddy carp Into, Damon Ways. It's some boys, j Anthony
- 2:06:46Speaker 2: Brown Man the first night, the first week of Death
- 2:06:48Speaker 2: Jail on the stage in one night was Martin Lawrens,
- 2:06:52Speaker 2: All of the Waynes Broughts, Jamie Fox, Bill Bellamy, Bernie
- 2:06:57Speaker 2: mack Sheryl Underwood, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, j Anthony Brown,
- 2:07:04Speaker 2: Teddy carp Into, a Dale Givings Dog. That stage was
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: so no genre, bread more still living talented people than
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: death Jail.
- 2:07:19Speaker 5: Chause Tucker too was on it.
- 2:07:21Speaker 3: Chris Tucker was on that stage. This boy. See you
- 2:07:24Speaker 3: can't that that that genre right.
- 2:07:27Speaker 2: There was nothing else but that Mount Rushmore for me
- 2:07:31Speaker 2: because I know what the Kings was.
- 2:07:33Speaker 3: Man, it was nice, the est grossing. It's just so
- 2:07:37Speaker 3: it's something that ain't. Ain't nobody finna do that. You
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: can get four Like. I love these boys at eighty
- 2:07:42Speaker 3: five South.
- 2:07:43Speaker 2: But they doing something, man, I never thought would be done.
- 2:07:46Speaker 2: That's why I gotta take my hat off to him,
- 2:07:48Speaker 2: because I don't know how they did this. Man.
- 2:07:50Speaker 3: They actually go on stage in the living room setting
- 2:07:54Speaker 3: and sit around and talk and sell out and the
- 2:07:57Speaker 3: ship is funny. They they've taken improv comedy to a
- 2:08:02Speaker 3: whole nother level, Like a lot of conversations, they're different.
- 2:08:06Speaker 3: We sat we did that show, and just after the
- 2:08:08Speaker 3: show was just like, how did they just do that?
- 2:08:11Speaker 5: It's so talented and you don't realize it, like as
- 2:08:13Speaker 5: this happenue?
- 2:08:14Speaker 3: Does this happen? I didn't think that could work. I
- 2:08:17Speaker 3: tried improv comedy. I can't do it.
- 2:08:19Speaker 2: And then I don't understand dividing the check. That's what
- 2:08:23Speaker 2: always through me. We're gonna get this check and we're
- 2:08:27Speaker 2: gonna split it. Now, I gotta do this myself. But
- 2:08:30Speaker 2: eighty five self has came along Chico and Man Seeing
- 2:08:34Speaker 2: and DC and them boys, and they special.
- 2:08:37Speaker 3: Man.
- 2:08:38Speaker 2: They changed the way comedy could be done. So my
- 2:08:43Speaker 2: hat's off to them young boys right there, man, because
- 2:08:46Speaker 2: I just I didn't think it could work. But once again,
- 2:08:50Speaker 2: it wasn't in my imagination.
- 2:08:52Speaker 3: It was in theirs. So that's my view, man. So
- 2:08:55Speaker 3: you have to write your own jokes to be top
- 2:08:58Speaker 3: tier or does that not mat Yeah?
- 2:09:01Speaker 2: But then you know, like the like Chapelle and Rock
- 2:09:05Speaker 2: you know they had writers, you know, but they doing
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: some high level stuff. It's it's time consuming. Like if
- 2:09:10Speaker 2: I went back, I'd have to go that route. I
- 2:09:13Speaker 2: spent my whole career writing my own. I bought two
- 2:09:15Speaker 2: jokes in thirty years, he said, bought them, bought two
- 2:09:19Speaker 2: jokes writers, Yeah, off of a writer. I bought a
- 2:09:22Speaker 2: funeral joke from Prescott Comedian out of Memphis. I bought
- 2:09:26Speaker 2: a funeral joke from Prescott, and I bought something else
- 2:09:30Speaker 2: from Prescott. I don't remember that joke, but I bought
- 2:09:32Speaker 2: it and then didn't use it. Right, But that funeral
- 2:09:35Speaker 2: joke that I never put on tape one of the
- 2:09:38Speaker 2: funniest pieces I've ever gotten. It was just, you know,
- 2:09:41Speaker 2: going to a black funeral and you know, and then
- 2:09:44Speaker 2: I you know, like you know, funeral homes, like back
- 2:09:47Speaker 2: in the day we lived in the hood, you had
- 2:09:49Speaker 2: to take the body to the funeral home. They didn't
- 2:09:51Speaker 2: do pickups.
- 2:09:52Speaker 3: So my uncle died and we came home and he
- 2:09:56Speaker 3: was dead, and we had to take him to the
- 2:09:58Speaker 3: funeral home.
- 2:10:00Speaker 2: Now, me and my nephew, we tend and my mom
- 2:10:03Speaker 2: and daddy in the front, and they propped my uncle
- 2:10:06Speaker 2: up in the back, sitting him up, and they put
- 2:10:08Speaker 2: us on each side so he wouldn't fall over. Ye know,
- 2:10:10Speaker 2: how fucking traumatized. I was we make a left turn.
- 2:10:15Speaker 3: This he oon't me, He don't mean Mama helled me.
- 2:10:19Speaker 3: You shut up and leave my brother quick pushing him.
- 2:10:22Speaker 3: You know you're how hard it is to ride with
- 2:10:25Speaker 3: your first dead person and you and you and your
- 2:10:28Speaker 3: brother is bookends trying to prop his ass up.
- 2:10:31Speaker 5: Brother.
- 2:10:34Speaker 3: Listen to me, you need therapy after that ship. You
- 2:10:38Speaker 3: got to go to therapy.
- 2:10:39Speaker 2: And now I wrote a whole joke about that and
- 2:10:42Speaker 2: taking him up there and took the suit down there
- 2:10:45Speaker 2: for the funeral director to dress him in and everything.
- 2:10:47Speaker 2: We get to the funeral and we opened up the
- 2:10:50Speaker 2: cask and and my uncle ain't got the suit on.
- 2:10:54Speaker 2: He got on a Michael Jordan's jog and suit with
- 2:10:58Speaker 2: number two and three of the director to shoot. I
- 2:11:02Speaker 2: used to I had wrote this ship. That ship was
- 2:11:06Speaker 2: one of the greatest jokes. I never put that on tape, man,
- 2:11:10Speaker 2: but that was one. If I came back, I had
- 2:11:13Speaker 2: to release.
- 2:11:13Speaker 3: That n f T release it as an FT.
- 2:11:17Speaker 5: Yeah, one of the first, one of the first.
- 2:11:18Speaker 6: Actually, uh endorse and speak about Solano as to media.
- 2:11:23Speaker 3: I'm sure he's behind that. Man. You explain how that
- 2:11:27Speaker 3: would work, how you would put it as an NFT.
- 2:11:31Speaker 6: Yeah, so I first I would do it like as
- 2:11:34Speaker 6: a I would record it right, and then making a
- 2:11:38Speaker 6: digital product and make it exclusive to the people who
- 2:11:40Speaker 6: bought maybe create artwork around it and make it exclusive
- 2:11:43Speaker 6: to the people. And then after they bought it, perhaps
- 2:11:45Speaker 6: make it one night only where you actually perform.
- 2:11:49Speaker 5: If they have the NFT, they get a whole big
- 2:11:50Speaker 5: business around it.
- 2:11:52Speaker 3: They buy it in crypto, they can resell it. Every
- 2:11:54Speaker 3: time they resell it, you get percentage on it. Percentage
- 2:11:57Speaker 3: on it.
- 2:12:00Speaker 5: To me, it's like, wait, that's it, man.
- 2:12:04Speaker 3: You know how much of that stuff I got? Hey, man,
- 2:12:07Speaker 3: do you know I have footage? I have at least
- 2:12:20Speaker 3: sixteen hours of never recorded. I'm talking about because I
- 2:12:27Speaker 3: when I did my seven specials man and and and
- 2:12:30Speaker 3: and feature films and for stand up, I only picked
- 2:12:34Speaker 3: the best hour ten. I've got some stuff that never
- 2:12:40Speaker 3: got recorded. The funeral joke to Jerry spring a bit,
- 2:12:44Speaker 3: the waffle house joke. I got some shit, man, that
- 2:12:49Speaker 3: was so gut.
- 2:12:51Speaker 2: Wrench and funny. Man, I just haven't had time to
- 2:12:55Speaker 2: go through all of it. I got a lot of
- 2:12:56Speaker 2: the footage, but this this'll be a time for it.
- 2:12:59Speaker 5: I mean I'm gonna look up with.
- 2:13:01Speaker 3: Y'all and do something.
- 2:13:01Speaker 9: Man.
- 2:13:01Speaker 3: I wanna do a business venture with y'all too.
- 2:13:04Speaker 5: Let's do it. Do it.
- 2:13:05Speaker 2: Y'all gotta get with the bad and y'all gotta come
- 2:13:07Speaker 2: up with the idea and we got to do the
- 2:13:09Speaker 2: three of us got to do a business venture together
- 2:13:12Speaker 2: and launch it. Take my radio show, use it as
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: the nucleus to promote, and then whatever social media I got,
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: and then we need to get out there and we can.
- 2:13:24Speaker 3: Do something big. Man. We can promote on our side too. Yeah,
- 2:13:27Speaker 3: y'all y'all strong.
- 2:13:29Speaker 2: Seeing if whatever y'all trying to do in Africa, if
- 2:13:31Speaker 2: y'all trying to go high of that work I got.
- 2:13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, we'll talk about that. We got some investment opportunities
- 2:13:38Speaker 5: out there.
- 2:13:38Speaker 3: I got a studio for you in Abu Dhabi's me
- 2:13:44Speaker 3: know to dip and I'm talking about where you can go. Man.
- 2:13:47Speaker 2: Like when you go to Abu Dhabi, man, you won't
- 2:13:51Speaker 2: even believe it. You've never been nowhere on earth like this.
- 2:13:57Speaker 2: You you you know what it's like to walk outside
- 2:14:00Speaker 2: and not have to look around.
- 2:14:02Speaker 4: That's like I was with Singapore and Singapore that was
- 2:14:06Speaker 4: like the most immaculate place that I've been to, Like
- 2:14:08Speaker 4: it was just no poverty, nothing on it stet looked
- 2:14:11Speaker 4: like we was in the future.
- 2:14:13Speaker 3: Like it was like that was just like I ain't
- 2:14:14Speaker 3: never been there. Oh it's crazy.
- 2:14:16Speaker 4: You know when you go on the plane, so I
- 2:14:18Speaker 4: was coming from Hong Kong, and when you go on
- 2:14:21Speaker 4: the plane, you know how to give you those things
- 2:14:23Speaker 4: to read, but nobody ever really reads it, Like I
- 2:14:25Speaker 4: actually read it this time it said drug trafficking of
- 2:14:28Speaker 4: any kind is punishable by death. Yeah, So then I
- 2:14:34Speaker 4: get there and then my friend who he's with, his
- 2:14:36Speaker 4: cousin actually was living out there, so she was telling
- 2:14:39Speaker 4: us like there's no drugs, like they're serious about that,
- 2:14:42Speaker 4: really no drugs, Like there's no drugs out there. But
- 2:14:45Speaker 4: it was like, I'm like, because it's like one of
- 2:14:47Speaker 4: the most expensive places to live, and she was like yeah,
- 2:14:51Speaker 4: but everybody works. And she's like even like low income housing,
- 2:14:54Speaker 4: it's like, are just a regular apartment, Like there's no poverty,
- 2:14:56Speaker 4: there's no ghettos, there's no crime, there's no none of that.
- 2:15:00Speaker 3: And it looked like we was in the future. What
- 2:15:02Speaker 3: language is over there?
- 2:15:04Speaker 4: Well, everybody spoke English because really, yeah, I forget what
- 2:15:08Speaker 4: it like native language is now.
- 2:15:10Speaker 3: Somebody was telling me to go to Singapore, but I
- 2:15:12Speaker 3: kept thinking.
- 2:15:13Speaker 5: The four principle.
- 2:15:15Speaker 6: We can't leave without talking about I think, which is
- 2:15:18Speaker 6: probably the sixth principle, and that's the give back. Let's
- 2:15:21Speaker 6: talk about your foundation, the philanthropy work that you're doing well.
- 2:15:25Speaker 2: I've been doing this for quite some time, Steve and
- 2:15:27Speaker 2: Marjora Harvey Foundation. But it's about to take a new turn.
- 2:15:31Speaker 3: Man.
- 2:15:32Speaker 2: I'm in the process of closing a deal to buy
- 2:15:36Speaker 2: Rock Ranch. And Rock Ranch is owned by.
- 2:15:40Speaker 3: Chick fil A right now, and it's sixteen hundred acres.
- 2:15:44Speaker 3: Where is it that just south of here.
- 2:15:47Speaker 2: It's about an hour and a half from here in
- 2:15:50Speaker 2: is it Rock, Georgia, And it's called the Rock Ranch
- 2:15:54Speaker 2: and it's one thousand, six hundred acres. I'm gonna buy
- 2:15:58Speaker 2: it myself, donated to my foundation because I don't want
- 2:16:02Speaker 2: my foundation to have to take that type of hit.
- 2:16:04Speaker 2: There's a lot of money to buy, but this is
- 2:16:08Speaker 2: going to give me a chance to do what Robert
- 2:16:10Speaker 2: Smith taught me to do, was to scale up. And
- 2:16:13Speaker 2: so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna build permanent
- 2:16:17Speaker 2: housing on it. Because right now, when I go down there,
- 2:16:20Speaker 2: I gotta spend hundreds of thousands on tents for the
- 2:16:24Speaker 2: boys to sleep in. I gotta I gotta have a
- 2:16:28Speaker 2: toilet's body in and showers body in, and uh. I
- 2:16:32Speaker 2: just want to change it and really really go all
- 2:16:35Speaker 2: out with it. We're gonna build sleeping for seven hundred kids,
- 2:16:39Speaker 2: boys and girls with indoor uh toilets and showers for everybody.
- 2:16:46Speaker 2: We're gonna have a performing arts center that seats seven
- 2:16:50Speaker 2: hundred with theater seating in it to show movies and
- 2:16:52Speaker 2: do presentations for corporate getaways. I'm gonna build about fifteen
- 2:16:57Speaker 2: tiny houses on it for corporate execus getaways to come
- 2:17:01Speaker 2: down there. I've got fishing ponds all over the place.
- 2:17:05Speaker 2: I got rock climbing, zip lining. I'm gonna open up
- 2:17:08Speaker 2: the STEM center. Robert Smith has committed to opening that
- 2:17:11Speaker 2: for me. I'm gonna open up a STEM coding center
- 2:17:14Speaker 2: to teach coding to young All of this for underprivileged kids.
- 2:17:18Speaker 2: If your child got money, that ain't who I'm working with.
- 2:17:21Speaker 2: I work for people who can't afford it.
- 2:17:23Speaker 3: Man. I'm taking all underprivileged kids. That that's all.
- 2:17:27Speaker 2: I'm taking the ones people don't thank God a shot
- 2:17:30Speaker 2: that was me. I'm gonna I'm claiming it. I'm gonna
- 2:17:35Speaker 2: open up the Floyd Mayweather boxing facility down there, and
- 2:17:38Speaker 2: he mentioned it to.
- 2:17:39Speaker 3: Floyd, said.
- 2:17:43Speaker 2: He ain't had a conversation with Floyd Mayweather bought it.
- 2:17:46Speaker 2: But here a good brother. Every time we see each other,
- 2:17:49Speaker 2: we cordial.
- 2:17:50Speaker 3: But I love his dude. Al Hayman. He a Cleveland boy.
- 2:17:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to I'm gonna go to Floyd and
- 2:17:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask him to build a gym for these boys.
- 2:17:58Speaker 3: I'm just putting it out there. I claim.
- 2:18:01Speaker 2: I'm building the Tyler Perry Performing Arts Center, the Robert
- 2:18:05Speaker 2: Smith Coding Center. I want to build it. Here's another
- 2:18:09Speaker 2: one that I'm putting out there. I'm gonna build the
- 2:18:11Speaker 2: Shaquille O'Neil Gymnasium. Shaquille is a good brother man, just
- 2:18:16Speaker 2: a good brother man. And I like being affiliated with
- 2:18:20Speaker 2: people as good dudes. Man that I know got their
- 2:18:22Speaker 2: heart in the right place.
- 2:18:24Speaker 3: You know it.
- 2:18:25Speaker 5: It.
- 2:18:27Speaker 3: I just claim stuff like that, you know.
- 2:18:29Speaker 2: But if they understand that I don't put my money
- 2:18:31Speaker 2: in at these cats is willing to give. They have
- 2:18:33Speaker 2: a lot of give back spirit in them, you know,
- 2:18:36Speaker 2: And I'm gonna open up Ah. I'm gonna put a
- 2:18:40Speaker 2: track down there. I'm gonna open up a gardening facility.
- 2:18:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna sell flowers. I'm gonna take two hundred acres
- 2:18:48Speaker 2: and grow flowers down there and raise honey with the bees.
- 2:18:52Speaker 3: And I'm gonna open up farming.
- 2:18:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna find me an African American farmer that got
- 2:18:57Speaker 2: hit during the pandemic and lost they farm. I'm gonna
- 2:19:01Speaker 2: give him farming acreage down there, a few hundred acres,
- 2:19:04Speaker 2: and I'm just gonna pay him to grow organic vegetables.
- 2:19:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna feed the community and whoever needs vegetables that
- 2:19:12Speaker 2: live in that area, I'm gonna just feed them for
- 2:19:14Speaker 2: free and let his brother earn a living from farming.
- 2:19:18Speaker 2: And I'm gonna open up a dining hall. I'm gonna
- 2:19:21Speaker 2: have facility there. When I'm not using it, i can
- 2:19:23Speaker 2: rent it out for corporate events and for weddings and
- 2:19:26Speaker 2: things like that. I'm also gonna open up the gym
- 2:19:30Speaker 2: and create it in a way where if HBCUs wanna
- 2:19:32Speaker 2: come down there and have camps, they can come down
- 2:19:35Speaker 2: there doing as long as it's not summer and hold camps,
- 2:19:40Speaker 2: training facilities, and I'm gonna have a Division one workouts
- 2:19:43Speaker 2: center built for football teams who wanna come down there.
- 2:19:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to the NFL and get them build
- 2:19:49Speaker 2: me a football field with astro turf, and I'm gonna
- 2:19:52Speaker 2: go to the NBA. If Shaq don't come through, I'm
- 2:19:55Speaker 2: gonna go to the NBA. I'm gonna have them build
- 2:19:57Speaker 2: me a gym. If they don't do it, I'll do
- 2:19:58Speaker 2: it myself. Don't make me no difference. I hope they do,
- 2:20:01Speaker 2: but it don't matter to me. I'm not in the
- 2:20:04Speaker 2: beg business. I'll ask you, but I won't beg you.
- 2:20:08Speaker 2: And then that's what God don't put on my heart.
- 2:20:10Speaker 2: So that's what we're going with philanthropy and my wife's
- 2:20:15Speaker 2: goal and our goal is to send ten thousand young
- 2:20:17Speaker 2: people to college full paid scholarships.
- 2:20:19Speaker 3: We're on our way. We've done a hundred or so
- 2:20:22Speaker 3: right now, but we're a long way from ten thousand.
- 2:20:25Speaker 3: But that's the goal. I'll say this. We definitely want
- 2:20:28Speaker 3: to help in any way that we can help in that.
- 2:20:29Speaker 3: So I'm gonna have y'all come down there and teach
- 2:20:32Speaker 3: a course. Yeah, for sure, do it for sure. That's
- 2:20:34Speaker 3: what I want y'all to do. Gotta be dope. We
- 2:20:36Speaker 3: definitely do that. So thank you man. Yeah, Steve, it's
- 2:20:40Speaker 3: been a pleasure with my brother. Been real Black. Appreciate
- 2:20:43Speaker 3: you mine. I appreciate you man. I appreciate y'all. Let
- 2:20:46Speaker 3: me let me speak like this. Most people don't come
- 2:20:48Speaker 3: at me like this. I don't get to say these
- 2:20:50Speaker 3: types of things, So I appreciate it, app I appreciate
- 2:20:54Speaker 3: you more. Thank you guys for rocking with it.
- 2:20:56Speaker 6: Before we go, we got to give thanks again to
- 2:20:58Speaker 6: be make you that this happened, shouting the Cole All Black.
- 2:21:02Speaker 5: Effect family for also making sure that this took place.
- 2:21:06Speaker 5: So thank y'all.
- 2:21:07Speaker 4: And I want to highlight his he's talking about it,
- 2:21:10Speaker 4: but I think it's important to really say this on camera.
- 2:21:12Speaker 4: So he talked about his lawyer, He talked about his stylust,
- 2:21:15Speaker 4: He talked about TVD who helps him out a lot
- 2:21:17Speaker 4: of financial issues. And they're all young black men and
- 2:21:22Speaker 4: that's important too. Like he has his staff and a
- 2:21:24Speaker 4: team of black professionals. He didn't have to compromise the
- 2:21:30Speaker 4: entire A lot of time, we think we have to
- 2:21:31Speaker 4: compromise the integrity. If we hired somebody black, he didn't
- 2:21:33Speaker 4: compromise the integrity. People are extremely highly qualified, and that's
- 2:21:38Speaker 4: something to highlight. It's like like Lebron you know different
- 2:21:41Speaker 4: things that nature, but it's always good to see, you know,
- 2:21:43Speaker 4: a team of black people, especially black men, working together.
- 2:21:49Speaker 3: And they qualified too.
- 2:21:50Speaker 2: Because when I put them boys in the room, I
- 2:21:52Speaker 2: ain't got to be in there because I know they're
- 2:21:54Speaker 2: gonna handle bits because they're smart and you ain't gonna
- 2:21:58Speaker 2: run nothing by them. Doog, I ain't even worried about it.
- 2:22:00Speaker 2: You can come in there. These cats got some minds
- 2:22:02Speaker 2: on them. And like you say, I didn't hire black
- 2:22:04Speaker 2: people that have to compromise. No, man, I'm actually I actually,
- 2:22:09Speaker 2: I actually have an edge because to tell you what
- 2:22:12Speaker 2: else it gives me, Man, gives me a comfort level.
- 2:22:15Speaker 2: Cause you know, man, sometimes, Man, when you out here
- 2:22:18Speaker 2: in this world as an hour for mail, it's lonely
- 2:22:20Speaker 2: out here. You're out here operating with people that don't
- 2:22:23Speaker 2: look like you, talk like you. Some of them don't
- 2:22:25Speaker 2: want to really be bothered with you, but you had
- 2:22:27Speaker 2: ability to make money, so they tolerate you.
- 2:22:29Speaker 5: Well.
- 2:22:29Speaker 2: When I'm home and I'm sitting around my guys. I
- 2:22:32Speaker 2: want the comfort level. I want to be able to
- 2:22:34Speaker 2: talk like I talk, say what I say now. If
- 2:22:36Speaker 2: I far off a word that ain't politically correct, ain't
- 2:22:39Speaker 2: nobody wincing.
- 2:22:40Speaker 3: Writing me up? Get then out? No paperwork? Hey dog,
- 2:22:46Speaker 3: I don't want to say nothing. And all of a
- 2:22:47Speaker 3: sudden I see somebody filling out paperwork work Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 2:22:53Speaker 3: And we have a lot of meanings in my house
- 2:22:54Speaker 3: where HR don't apply.
- 2:23:01Speaker 4: No, it's a pleasure of my brother. Thank you guys
- 2:23:04Speaker 4: for rocking with us. We'll see you next week.
- 2:23:05Speaker 3: Peace, peace, my graduates from my school being forced bad.
