- 0:00Erin Gray: Welcome back to Your Money, Your Rules podcast with me, your host, Erin Gray.
- 0:04Erin Gray: I'm so glad you're here.
- 0:05Erin Gray: Today we're going to be talking about feeling grateful and never satisfied.
- 0:09Erin Gray: I hear this from clients at times where they ask, like, well, how can I want more without feeling or with yeah, without feeling ungrateful for what I already have?
- 0:22Erin Gray: And my answer is that gratitude and desire, they are the same coin.
- 0:28Erin Gray: They are partners.
- 0:30Erin Gray: So today we're going to be talking about why being grateful and never satisfied isn't a bad thing.
- 0:35Erin Gray: It isn't a problem.
- 0:37Erin Gray: It's actually part of the human spirit.
- 0:39Erin Gray: It's what we came here to do.
- 0:41Erin Gray: And it is part of expansion.
- 0:43Erin Gray: So let's dive in.
- 0:44Erin Gray: So I want to clarify that when I say let's feel grateful and not satisfied, what I mean is let's enjoy all that we have created and what God has blessed us with.
- 0:56Erin Gray: And then let's keep going and desiring and expanding and wanting more.
- 1:01Erin Gray: In the book, Working with the Law, Raymond Hollowell, I will put this in the show notes.
- 1:06Erin Gray: I think I talked about this on the previous episode in a different chapter.
- 1:09Erin Gray: But this chapter is in regards to the law of supply.
- 1:12Erin Gray: And what he says is that man is never satisfied.
- 1:16Erin Gray: This fact is deplored by many, but God did not intend that man should be forever satisfied.
- 1:23Erin Gray: The law of his being is perpetual increase, meaning we are always meant to expand and to want more and desire more, more progress, more growth.
- 1:33Erin Gray: So when one good is realized, another desire for a greater good will develop.
- 1:40Erin Gray: And when a higher state is reached, another and more glorious state will unfold his vision and urge him on and on.
- 1:50Erin Gray: Hence, the advancing life is the true life, the life that God intended man to live.
- 1:57Erin Gray: And I know that, at least for me, growing up, and even sometimes when I talk to my dad now, like he'll say, like, well, how much is enough?
- 2:07Erin Gray: And my answer is always, it's always enough and it's never enough.
- 2:12Erin Gray: And what I mean by that is grateful, but never satisfied, right?
- 2:16Erin Gray: It's always enough, as in you have to love where you are right now from an abundant place, right?
- 2:22Erin Gray: Like what I think what most people try to do is they try to have more, uh, desire more, but from a place of lack.
- 2:30Erin Gray: Like it's not good where I am.
- 2:32Erin Gray: I want more, and then I'm gonna feel better, versus loving where you are right now, feeling so grateful for where you are right now, and desiring and can't like joyful anticipation of where you are going.
- 2:47Erin Gray: Expanding, desiring, wanting more is our natural state.
- 2:52Erin Gray: That that I always say this to clients is like the human spirit came here to grow and expand, which is why I call BS on like retiring at 65.
- 3:03Erin Gray: Like the human spirit wants to create.
- 3:07Erin Gray: And so that doesn't mean that as we are wanting and desiring more, that we are ungrateful for where we are.
- 3:14Erin Gray: Gratitude is like it says, like, I love what I have.
- 3:18Erin Gray: It's like in the feeling of having, like, that's the way gratitude feels in my body.
- 3:23Erin Gray: It's like you're just so grateful and in love with what you have and where you are.
- 3:28Erin Gray: And desire is like, and I would love and I'm ready for more.
- 3:34Erin Gray: And from that place of sufficiency and wholeness and love and joy and abundance, like, yes, I want more.
- 3:42Erin Gray: So I think women are taught so often that wanting more is greedy, or it's selfish, or you're not being grateful, or you're asking for too much.
- 3:52Erin Gray: And so we've been conditioned to shrink ourselves, to shrink our desires, to try to, you know, avoid feeling judgment or rocking the boat or to not look or to feel too much, right?
- 4:05Erin Gray: Like you're too much, or why do you keep asking for more?
- 4:08Erin Gray: And it's a way that has that we've allowed ourselves to stay small.
- 4:12Erin Gray: And we do this because we want to please others.
- 4:15Erin Gray: And ultimately, what it comes back to is we don't want to feel the discomfort.
- 4:19Erin Gray: There are feelings in our body that we are unwilling to feel as because we aren't wanting or desiring or actually going after what we are actually wanting.
- 4:31Erin Gray: So, this false belief around, you know, if I want more, it means I'm ungrateful.
- 4:38Erin Gray: I want you to just play with you can feel deep, deep gratitude for all of your income right now.
- 4:47Erin Gray: And you can want more income.
- 4:49Erin Gray: You can feel such immense gratitude for your spouse, and you can want deeper and more meaningful and more connection.
- 4:59Erin Gray: You can love your business and think it's amazing, and you can want more growth, right?
- 5:05Erin Gray: Like you can love the current home that you are currently in, and you can desire and want a bigger one.
- 5:11Erin Gray: You can love the life that you have right now, everything about it.
- 5:16Erin Gray: You can love it just right now, just as it is.
- 5:18Erin Gray: Like that is the definition I think of sufficiency and pure just love, right?
- 5:24Erin Gray: Gratitude.
- 5:24Erin Gray: Gratitude to me is on the same frequency of love.
- 5:28Erin Gray: And so when you feel just pure love for everything that you have, that everything that God has blessed you in your life, and you can have even a more expansive life, even a bigger life.
- 5:40Erin Gray: Like that, that is, I want to normalize that.
- 5:43Erin Gray: That is what we came here to do.
- 5:46Erin Gray: So wanting more doesn't mean that you're ungrateful.
- 5:49Erin Gray: It means that you're alive.
- 5:50Erin Gray: It means that your soul is here and to to expand and to grow.
- 5:56Erin Gray: You know, desire, I believe, is the beginning of creation.
- 6:01Erin Gray: Like in order to create something, we have to desire and want it first.
- 6:06Erin Gray: So desire is how your soul communicates with you.
- 6:12Erin Gray: It's desire is moving energy.
- 6:15Erin Gray: Like we, when we start feeling, and I'm not saying this is the only reason why we start feeling depressed, right?
- 6:22Erin Gray: But when we get to stagnation, when we stop dreaming, when we stop desiring, this is where, and I don't necessarily mean the literal depression, but like the feeling, the depressed feelings is because we aren't dreaming and desiring.
- 6:38Erin Gray: So I want you to sit with and I want you to ponder what if I were allowed to feel grateful for everything that I have and I want and I desire more because I'm capable of that.
- 6:51Erin Gray: You are allowed to feel grateful for what you have and everything that you have and love everything you have and desire more because you are capable of more.
- 7:01Erin Gray: These things can coexist at the same time.
- 7:04Erin Gray: This is like the duality, right?
- 7:06Erin Gray: Like we get to hold several beliefs at the same time.
- 7:10Erin Gray: They don't have to be competing beliefs.
- 7:12Erin Gray: Your nervous system can hold appreciation for what you already have and can desire and have ambition for more.
- 7:18Erin Gray: It can feel contentment for where you are and can and it can also go towards expansion.
- 7:24Erin Gray: It can feel stable and enjoy.
- 7:26Erin Gray: Like I had a client say, you know, like I just feel like I'm like, she kind of gave the like showed her hand like steady, right?
- 7:34Erin Gray: And I said, that's such a beautiful thing.
- 7:36Erin Gray: Like it's like that exhale before the next inhale, right?
- 7:39Erin Gray: Like we can be stable, we can just be in and enjoy where we are, and we can also, you know, be moving towards growth as well.
- 7:50Erin Gray: So this idea that like never satisfied is it's not a problem.
- 7:56Erin Gray: It's just what have we been taught to believe that never satisfied?
- 8:01Erin Gray: Because a lot of us have been taught that when you're never satisfied, it's coming from like a not enough, right?
- 8:06Erin Gray: That that is coming from lack.
- 8:09Erin Gray: We want things because we feel like where we are isn't enough.
- 8:12Erin Gray: That isn't what I'm saying.
- 8:13Erin Gray: I'm saying love where you are and desire more.
- 8:17Erin Gray: Think about nature, you know, a tree doesn't stop.
- 8:20Erin Gray: I'm like turning and looking out at my, you know, backyard.
- 8:23Erin Gray: Like that tree, it doesn't stop growing because it's satisfied.
- 8:27Erin Gray: Like nature, I think, is one of our most beautiful and best teachers because it's constantly expanding and growing.
- 8:35Erin Gray: The ocean, it doesn't stop moving in and out, right?
- 8:39Erin Gray: Because it's grateful for the waves.
- 8:41Erin Gray: You know, you don't stop breathing because you're just so grateful for your last breath.
- 8:46Erin Gray: So just think about how often are you stopping desires because you're thinking that you should feel grateful for what you have?
- 8:55Erin Gray: And how can you start looking at it as I can feel grateful and I can also want and desire more from a place of complete sufficiency and love and joy of where I am and desiring more?
- 9:09Erin Gray: So we are meant for expansion.
- 9:11Erin Gray: We our desires are proof that that is what our soul came here to do, is to expand.
- 9:17Erin Gray: And I always want to illuminate for you is to always check back in with your body and your nervous system, you know.
- 9:24Erin Gray: Are you desiring more because someone else is saying that that's what you should want, or that's what you should do?
- 9:33Erin Gray: Or, you know, that's we just have, I was just talking to my husband at lunch.
- 9:37Erin Gray: It's like we have so much bombardment, like consumption of social media and YouTube and commercials and just all the things of people telling us what we should want.
- 9:48Erin Gray: That's not what I'm talking about here.
- 9:50Erin Gray: I'm talking about what are your true heart's desires?
- 9:54Erin Gray: What do you want for yourself, for your life, for your business, for your children, for your spouse and your relationships and your friendships, the impact that you want to leave on the world.
- 10:04Erin Gray: That is what I'm asking you to ponder of like, what do you want and what feels good for you and loving where you are and then desiring more?
- 10:15Erin Gray: And like I said, you can feel grateful for everything that you have and still desire and want more from a place of abundance and love and sufficiency.
- 10:23Erin Gray: Okay, I will put this book in the show notes.
- 10:26Erin Gray: Like I said, this book and the Neville Goddard book.
- 10:28Erin Gray: There's probably a couple more, but um, I know there are a couple more that I have that I love that I read on a definitely a weekly basis.
- 10:37Erin Gray: I kind of alternate them, but I will put his book in the show notes.
- 10:40Erin Gray: That way you have it.
- 10:41Erin Gray: I highly recommend getting it and reading it.
- 10:44Erin Gray: And just ponder over the next week.
- 10:46Erin Gray: What is it that I love and I'm so grateful for right now in my life?
- 10:51Erin Gray: And what would I love more of?
- 10:53Erin Gray: And this is also something that I told a client as well.
- 10:56Erin Gray: It's like it's deeper.
- 10:57Erin Gray: It gets like you think that think back years ago where you were just wanting to be where you are right now, you know, that that gratitude that you wanted to feel where you feel right now.
- 11:10Erin Gray: And then you're gonna just feel more depths of gratitude, more depths of love and joy and abundance and um fun and experiences and play and all of those things.
- 11:22Erin Gray: So sit with this, ponder where are you stopping yourself for wanting more?
- 11:29Erin Gray: What are those beliefs that you might have that are coming up that are preventing you from even just writing them down in your journal and then um question it and challenge it.
- 11:41Erin Gray: And you know, love where you are and yeah, write down some things that you really would love more of and work towards that.
- 11:51Erin Gray: Okay, I will see you in the next episode.
