- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the SOB Scarlet, Orange and Brown Podcast, weekly breakdown of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cleveland Browns.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Here are your hosts, Ken Carpenter and Chris Huseman.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to the SOB Podcast, episode three, season two.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: I'm Ken Carpenter.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: And I'm Chris Useman.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: And the Buckeye State went one and two this week.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Bucks uh let a historic uh have a historic loss and let one get away from them.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Bengals, they just took care of business.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: And the Browns forgot that week one started this past Sunday.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So uh how was your weekend?
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: Uh it was a little bit better on Sunday, Kenny.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, with the Bengals actually having a defense and playing some good football.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, Saturday night was uh a little different after that historic collapse.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, without a doubt.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: It was uh a lot of ways you can look at it, and you know, of course, the Buckeye fans are going crazy about every every single thing from pass interference calls to uh Ryan Day decisions and everything.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: But you know, I mean I uh if you look at the first half, probably the first three quarters, the Buckeyes looked like the number one team in the country, and Join Sain and Jeremiah Smith were just uh tearing it up.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: And uh but it once that uh fourth quarter started, it seemed like the uh defense couldn't get off the field.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I believe they had 40 plays on the final three drives.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah that that makes it tough when you're trying to win a football game.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, you know, the striking statistical details uh told the story of that 24-23 collapse, you know, against Texas, uh, who's now number one and we're number six.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, uh the margin, 20 points.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna throw out some historic collapse numbers here.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: 20 points was the margin uh that they overcame.
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: That stands as the largest fourth quarter rally against an AP number one team in college football history, if that tells you anything.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Um, and you were right, 40 plays.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: It was 15, 13, and 12, uh, which adds up to 40.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: That's the number of plays Texas had on three consecutive four-quarter drives, all ended in touchdowns.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: That makes the Longhorns the only team, Kenny, uh, in the last 15 years to finish a victory with three consecutive touchdown drives of 12 plus plays.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: So if that tells you anything, what stood out to me was the fact that we basically were in uh double safety, two deep safeties, the whole entire second, third, and fourth quarter.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: Um, it kind of worked out because I had the feeling that Matt Patricia was like, we're just gonna rush three, four guys, and we're gonna stay back because um Manning could not hit anybody.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, to me, uh I mean I had the impression that his shoulder was hurting, I mean, he was grabbing his wrist earlier in the game and his hand, and I'm like, this guy's not right.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: And as the game went on, we did not pressure him.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: How many times during that 15, 13, and 12 play drives did he just have auk day to sit back there and we did not blitz at all?
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: And we only rushed three or four guys.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: I believe it was just oh so frustrating.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I believe the stat that came out was he averaged over four seconds every time he dropped back, so he had plenty of time, and and give him credit, he he did what he needed to do to get the win.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Of course, on one of the fourth downs, the high state only had 10 players on the field, so that kind of hurt.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: And then uh, you know, I think some a couple things that stood out to me was offensively, Legend Bay only got one snap.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: And on the defensive side, Wilder, number 34, he only got five snaps, and in those five snaps, he had two quarterback pressures.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize that, Kenny.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: And uh I knew I I was kept looking for Bay, uh, you know, a package for Bay, and didn't see it at all.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: I think Isaiah West only played um a couple snaps as well.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, you're right.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was the the first quarter total yards for Ohio State was 119 yards.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: And for Texas, they had five.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Um the remaining three quarters, um, Ohio State had 253 yards for you know, what is that, a total of you know, 377 yards.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: It's 372 yards, I think it was.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: And Texas had 331 in the second half, or the remaining three quarters.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Um, the total plays ran.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: Ohio State, you would think, were ran all those plays, and they ran 63.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: And Texas ran 78.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: They ran 15 more plays than we did.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: Um, and we had and they had four fumbles in which we only recovered one.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Um they went for it um several times on fourth down, and it wasn't just fourth and one, it was like fourth and long.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: And we didn't stop them, we failed to stop them on that.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: We didn't blitz, and we tried to play the double, you know, the double safeties back there, and um we didn't pressure them.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: And you know what that does is it basically um puts so much pressure when you're playing a zone like we did.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Um, if you notice, they started going to the middle of the field all day long.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: And um, even I mean, they have two really good receivers.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Coleman is legit.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, the other guy, his name excuse me right second, but he was good.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, you know, just crucial ex uh execution numbers.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: You know, Julian Sand was only 17 for 32.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Um, uncharacteristic of him.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, that 50, what is that 53% completion rate?
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Uh that was his career low.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Um, four of eleven, the Buckeye's ability, uh, inability to you know lock the door.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, they fumbled four times.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Um we only managed to recover one.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: Um, securing just one more of those loose balls basically would have saved the victory.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, four drives um or fewer, where we were three and out.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: Um you know, four plays or less.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: Um you talk about um you know Arch Manning's fourth quarter passing chart.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was Kenny, he had all day to sit back there and throw.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: He really did.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Let me ask you this.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: In the first half, you know, there's two schools of thought where you know try to get the seven points or just hey, we get points when you're on the road, the three and get the field goal.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Being someone who's coached, do you think that Ryan Day he's he's had some just terrible luck with kickers?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, four this is the fourth game where a kicker has it would have made the field goal, he would have won uh a game.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: He would have beat Georgia and they would have went to the national championship.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: They moved to Texas on the hook to the left.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And they're just do you think that that is plays a role in the back of his mind?
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 100% it does.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, you got to take the points on the road when you can get it.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, that three points ended up being a difference in the ballgame.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, obviously the three points um that our kicker missed.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, uh 45 yard, I'll be at a 45-yarder, but that seems to be our our threshold.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: You know, Connor Hawkins, three for three early on, but you know, that crucial 45-yard field goal uh wide left with you know what is it, 416, I think, remaining in the game, you know, that gave them all the momentum in the world.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: And and and basically, you know, um there were there were things that just just really didn't, you know, I I don't want to say we were outcoached, Kenny, to be honest with you.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think we were the best team in the land um for the first two quarters, to be honest with you, how we looked.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: I think everybody was like, oh my gosh, these guys are legit.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, Jeremiah Smith looked unstoppable.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but just think, I mean, he had eight catches for 164 yards, and that was majority in the first half.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was on his way to a record-breaking game, and he was only targeted um three times for zero yards in the second half.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Well, the other thing to think about is uh I believe only two other receivers caught a pass.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And in the first game, I think Saiyan got the ball to 14 different players, and when you're running back, Jackson is your second leading receiver.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: That's that's not good.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And you know, I mean, there's so many ifs if this would have happened, but you know, that pass that Julian Saiyan makes nine out of ten times where he throws it to McEwan going down the middle, and he just overshot him there.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: That that's another one where you say, hey, that that that's the difference right there.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it it was a backbreaker.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, I mean, that was really the only time we heard of McEwan all night long.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was, you know, this kid had over a hundred yards receiving last week, um, or two weeks ago, versus ball state.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I think um Ennis only had one catch.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: It was a great catch.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: Um, they did use their tight ends a lot more, um, which I like to see.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, it's just to me, Kenny, throwing the ball opens up your running game.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, we have a good running game, both Jacksons um and they're pretty dynamic.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: Um, then you get your pounder in there in West.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: Um, if you want a skill guy that wants to, you know, um maybe you do it on a draw or hit him in the flat.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Um, we saw what Legend Bay can do.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, um I mean it just got really, really, really vanilla at the end.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, we were just playing not to lose.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Basically, we were playing not to lose from late second quarter uh to the end of the game.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: And it showed in the defense.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: I saw something under Matt Patricia I've never saw, and that was not letting our five-star, four and five-star players go out there and play and do what they do.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: Instead, you just put them back in a spot and say you're in a zone and just react.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: And I mean, anybody can do that.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, we have to put these guys on the edge, we have to blitz guys from the corner, we have to send both backers, we have to do a lot of different things that's gonna uh that's gonna basically you know disrupt Arch Manning because I don't care if it's Arch Manning or whoever, you know, the kid from Ball State, if he had all day back there and had that kind of time, he would have picked us apart as well.
- 12:00unknown: Yeah.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we need to make those changes and and just tell teams that, hey, we're coming after you.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: If you're gonna beat us, you're gonna have to make a perfect throw.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: And you know, we have the speed back there, uh, just to, you know, why not just set Earl Little in the back and let's bring up and let's sneak up another safety.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: You know, Michael, if we had Michael, if we had um um, you know, the safety that we had back there, the transfer from Alabama, yes, Downs, Caleb Downs.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: If we had him back in that secondary, you know, directing traffic, and just like with the what they did with Calen Downs, they're like, we trust you to do whatever you want.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: You know, you roam.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: You know, you roam and do whatever you want.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: It was like a monster back.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: And we just did not have that pressure coming off the edge um the way that we needed to.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Our defensive ends hardly got pressure.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, and uh I mean, when you're having six guy, uh, you know, five linemen and a running back block uh four guys or maybe three guys, it's easy to do, Kenny.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Let me ask you this.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Ryan Day got a question about this.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Should he have let him score at the end there and save time on the clock?
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Or like he said, he you know, he thought our defense could could hold him because in the past, defense has had some pretty good uh goal-line stands, but they just played 40 plays roughly.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And you know, like we were talking before the show, a buddy of mine was at the game and he got heat exhaustion, and he was just sitting in the stands.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: So that I I don't care who you are, that that heat had to have played a role.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Well, it did, and you know, here we are trying to make a goal-line stand on the one-yard line.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and then we stuffed him again.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: We would have had at least 55 seconds left with a timeout.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, that just didn't happen.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: And then all of a sudden, um, I mean, uh, you know, he's debating on whether or not to use his timeout or not, and then I'm like, he's lost it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: He's lost it at the end here.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: He didn't know, he didn't have a plan on what he wanted to do.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: There was no idea on what they want to do.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: Yes, they should have let him score.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: If they would have let him score on that pass play, we would have had a minute and 42 seconds left.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: And I would take my chances all day long to get down to the 30-yard line to have a decent shot at the field goal, you know, with Julian Saiyan and Jeremiah Smith and everybody else that we had, but it didn't come to fruition.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: So, you know, to me, and here's the other thing, Kenny, I want to throw out.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: I just read today, um, Sarkeesian just came out and said, please don't penalize the Buckeyes.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: You know, it it they were the best team in the nation for a half, and then, you know, it uh things went our way.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: And for them to come to Texas in week two and play in that heat and humidity the way they did um at a night game in Texas.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, Texas came up here, I mean I mean, it was uh, you know, I don't think they wanted to play at night either, you know.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: So it was just one of those things where you can't penalize a team, drop them all the way to six, losing by one where everybody knows they had the game in hand, and drop them all the way past um all these teams.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, you drop them third or fourth, I can understand, but to drop them all the way to six is crazy.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: So the bad thing about it, Kenny, is you know, we do have a loss now, and it just makes all these um all these tough games coming up.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're gonna have to win.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And let me um throw this out here.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, up next is Kent State, and that's a game that the Buckeyes should handle fairly easily.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: But where do you think the Buckeyes, when this is all said and done, are they gonna be 11 and 1, 10 and 2, or 9 and 3 or lower?
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Which where do you think they'll be?
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I could see maybe another hiccup in there somewhere.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, whether it's at Indiana, you know, you know, whatever it might be, at USC, um, at Iowa, I mean, it's something crazy.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: You know, I I could see another hiccup in there somewhere.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Um I just don't know which game it would be to pin me down on something like that.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think what they have to do going forward is they have to get twos and threes ready to play.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: That's what this game against Kent State is going to be.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: Kenny, we have to put at least 60 points on the board.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: And we have to let these guys do what they do while we recruited them.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: A four and a five-star um player has to come out and play like a four and a five-star player.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: We have to turn them loose and get them the ball.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, we have to run the ball, we have to throw the ball, we have to play good, solid, solid, fun fundamental defense.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: Hey, we're gonna miss long field goals.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: You know, if that game came down to 47, 48-yard field goal, that's on us.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Kenya, it shouldn't have got to that point in the first place.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, we should have stopped them on fourth down, we should have recovered one of those fumbles, we should have kicked the points when we had it in the second quarter.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: So, or the first second quarter.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: So, you know, that game was on us.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: It was a good learning situation.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: I think Texas is a very, very good team.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: They got great, they got great position, skilled players, they got a great line.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: I don't see us playing anybody near that magnitude.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: You saw Oregon got beat by Oklahoma State, who just got trounced the week before.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: Um, they had beaten Oklahoma State by 50, 60 points the year prior.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, anybody can beat really anybody, but um, it's gonna be interesting to see, you know, when it comes to playoff time.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Really, I mean, how many teams do end up having three losses?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, you you look at a couple teams, you know, Indiana, for example, I mean, they uh bought out Virginia.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: They were supposed to play Virginia this past weekend.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Instead, they pick up uh the cupcake that they got.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think that's Kurt Signetti's plan.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Play the the cupcakes in the non-conference, get through the Big Ten and see how it shakes out when you get to the playoffs.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: And the thing I like about Signetti is he doesn't take his foot off the gas.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: No, he doesn't, Kenny, and you're right.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: He's a great coach.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: But you know what?
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: I think the Buckeyes got better last week.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: I really did.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I uh you know the Buckeyes got better last week playing Texas at Texas at eight o'clock at Saturday night in uh 100 degree humidity.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Indiana did not get better playing Howard.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think their quarterback, he is not going to play into the fourth quarter, probably for the first four or five games, I would think.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Um I don't have the schedule in front of me, but they they they don't have anybody.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: And you know, that that could be their downfall, you know, once uh Big Ten play starts.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: Uh and that's a great point, too.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: And let's talk about who came out of that game injury-wise.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, we had one injury, and that was Zion Grady.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: Um I think he uh had what he had a leg injury, I think in the first half there.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: Um, that was really we came out of that game healthy.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, we came out of that game with a lot to work on, um, you know, in a lot of areas.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: I thought our line did very decent.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I thought our linebackers this week took a step back.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: I thought our defensive ends took a step back.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you wanted to run around the end, we did a really good job.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: But as far as pressuring the quarterback, um, you know, our um, I think we were talking earlier, Kenny.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: What was it about um, you know, our our great defensive down linemen, you know, big John Walker.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: Um and you mentioned something about um a player that only got in how many plays did he play?
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Wilder.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: He got five snaps and he had two quarterback pressures.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, this kid, you know, for all intent and purposes, I mean, he replaces McDonald um that went to the Texans.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's you know, he's defensive tackle number one.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Playing only five snaps.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, what's going on with that?
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I think he just went with a veteran group versus not taking a chance with the biggest.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: Was not playing Legend Bay.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, he didn't have him back there fielding kicks.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, there was no plays to McEwan.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I mean, uh Bay and McEwen are from Texas.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, they had everything to prove against these guys.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: So, you know, it it was disappointing to say the least.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: We we have been so much better.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think we learned a lot, and I think we're gonna be better because of this game.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Without a doubt.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Well, on a brighter note, the uh Cincinnati Bengals took care of business, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-27.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Next game is up against Houston.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Uh the thing I liked about what Cincinnati did this weekend was their balanced offense, and when uh you don't have to throw the ball a ton of times to Jamar Chase, and he's Burrow spread the ball around and uh on the defensive side, which was a an area of concern that they addressed for turnovers.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, they got him early, and and you know what that was, Kenny?
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: It was just it was it was pressure on on Baker Mayfield.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: And it just if if you want to talk about an Ohio State loss and a Cincinnati win, well the difference was the pressure that they put on the quarterback, right?
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: So That revamp defense that we had is as advertised, Kenny.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, it was a priority in Cincinnati, you know, rebuilding the defense in the offseason.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, and it goes to show you, I mean, everything from Dexter Lawrence being in there, Boye Mafe created two fumbles.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, just that pressure from the outside.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Um Miles Murphy'd look good, Brian Cook looked good.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and and and I looked at the stats, and who are the two leading tacklers?
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: Both of our linebackers, Demetrius Knight Jr.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: and Barrett Carter.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: And that's the way it should be, Kenny.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: Your defense should be led by your linebackers and tackles.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: That's what they're there for.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: And um if you looked at our linebackers, uh, you know, in the high, and I keep reverting back to the Ohio State game, and that was the difference.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, it wasn't, you know, our linebackers were dropping back into coverage 10 yards.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean, it wasn't like we were putting pressure and we were, you know, uh there at the end, you know, Ohio State, you know, uh, they were giving up, you know, 10 yards of gash in the running back.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: So, you know, that was the difference.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: But, you know, getting back to Cincinnati, I thought um, you know, that disruption of Tampa Bay's offense, just the entire majority of the game.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: Um and and here's another one.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: The how about the dominant performance from the offensive line?
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, I think Joe only went down once.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: Uh he only had one, they only had one sack the entire afternoon.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, that that part of it, um, I really liked.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: I, you know, I like Burroughs' mixed bag, you know, like you said, I mean, he was 25 of 35 for 254 and a touchdown.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, he managed to pocket pretty well.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, he did make a terrible pass.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Um, they got intercepted, uh, but he used the tight ends well.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: Mike Geseckki, I mean, he had a career game, you know, five receptions, 78 yards.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, he used T.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Higgins, had a great catch.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: You know, Jamar was just a threat all day long.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: Um, special teams look good with um uh uh McPherson kicking a 55, 58 yarder.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Um Chase Brown continues to look good.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: He's just so dynamic out of the backfield.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: And we have to keep pace, Kenny.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: We have to keep pace with Pittsburgh, we have to keep pace with Baltimore.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, unfortunately, the Browns didn't get it done, but um we came out of that pretty unscathed, too, Kenny.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, we only had you know, Knight Jr.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: had a cramp at the end of the game.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, we we came out of that pretty pretty healthy, too.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's gonna be a two-horse race.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be Baltimore and Cincinnati.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Um Pittsburgh will hang around, but I just I just don't see them getting it done.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: And I just think Cincinnati bro stays healthy.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be in a great situation come playoff time, either as the wild card or the AFC North representative.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So I mean, I think they're in a good situation.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: And up next, they got to go down to Houston, who had an incredible game with the Buffalo Bills.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: If you I don't know if you had a chance to watch that one or not, but uh Houston looks pretty solid.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're right.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: Kenny, I mean, we called that game uh on the SOB last week, you know, we called that as a potential upset.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: I think the line was a point and a half.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: They got beat by four or five.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, they hung right in there.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, CJ Stroud is he's legit, but he does fumble the ball a lot.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: So with our new defense, you know, putting the pressure on CJ Stroud, that and here's the other thing is Texas came out of that game banged up.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Uh both are linebackers, Henry uh Tioto, Tioto, however you pronounce that name, um, he went out with a shoulder.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: Um, Jay Cummel, their other linebacker, went out with a groin.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: Um, EJ Speed's on the pup list, their other linebacker.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: The other linebacker's playing with a cast on his hand.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Um, the high estate guy, Caden McDonald, um, the defensive tackle, he's um he's on IR with an ankle.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: You got two offensive tackles out on uh that are dinged up, and you got a wide receiver, two D B's, and a wide receiver and another defensive end are on the pup list.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we're cat we might be catching these guys at the right time.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: That's that's true.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: You know, and uh you know, going into uh this this weekend, you know, the the the Browns just 34-10 to lost to the Jags, and and you know, I would say two possessions in the game felt like it was over.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Only highlight really was Denzel Boston catching a late touchdown pass, which made the game look closer than it was.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: And it it's obvious there's 230 million reasons uh why uh Deshaun Watson's starting and the whole city uh is about to erupt.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: They just they they just can't stand the fact that Deshaun Watson's the quarterback.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I agree.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: I I mean, you know, he did have a 98% uh passer rating.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, he threw for over 200 yards.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but 11 penalties here's some X factors in that game.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, the Todd Munkins got to clean up.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, they had 11 penalties.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: They had two turnovers.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: They fell in a 31-0 uh zero hole early in the third quarter.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, I it rightfully so.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, if you're a Cleveland fan, I mean, it was a disastrous return for Deshaun Watson.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, through an interception, now he he now has 24 turnovers and 23 TDs for the Cleveland Browns.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Um, he was sacked five times with that new offensive line.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, the evaluation period active, you know, activated for Coach Monken.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, just explicitly conceded that he needs to evaluate everything after the game.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: And I mean, uh, every starter needs to be evaluated.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: You know, the the pocket pressure was not there.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: He had issues with that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: He held on to the ball too long, um, drifted a lot out of the pocket when he should have stayed in.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, a a lot of those things need to a lot of rising speculation in Cleveland.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: And, you know, the uh you know, I hate to say it, but that potential pivot to rookie, you know, or to Shadur Sanders is looming hard.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: But you've got to wonder.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: You know, I I know that the the owner, Jimmy Haslam, has a has to be playing a role in this, but if Deshaun Watson's the starter based on training camp, how bad was Shador Sanders?
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: That's a good point.
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: And you know, I I think Cleveland relied solely on their defense, Kenny, um, to get them through games and to be in games.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: And, you know, with a healthy Miles Garrett and the defense that they had, you know, one of the best linebackers in the game, Schwesinger.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, those dynamic defensive backs that they had.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, they did keep him in games.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: And you need a quarterback.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's, you know, here's one thing that struck me about the Bengals game.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: I'm looking at the end of the game, and you know how the Bengals always are in the game, you know, they make it a game at the end, whether they're losing or they're winning.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: And this time I looked and it was the offense that I was like saying, you guys need to step it up right here.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: And they went down and they scored a field goal and took all the pressure off.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: You know, rather than me saying, Oh God, I just hope the defense doesn't break here, you know, and they stuff them the first two plays, and then they give up a a third and uh third third down play, third and long, they'll give up a 24-yard pass play, you know, wide open.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: And it didn't happen this year, Kenny.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: That's the reason they won.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: And it's not, we're not getting that with the Brown with the Browns.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: We're not getting that dynamic.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Oh, there goes Henry, you know, Fannin for you know a 14-yard squirt on a on an outplay.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Um, we're not getting that.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: And you know, or here comes Jerry Judy across the middle, or Casey Concepcion, you know, how about him?
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: You know, that lack of aggression just failed to disrupt the rhythm of the Jaguars and the passing game.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: And you know, the blown coverages allowed Trevor Lawrence to, you know, sit back there comfortably and post 245 yards, an easy 245 yards, four touchdowns, 78% completion rate.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Now I'm gonna throw let me throw a quote.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you remember this, and I guarantee anybody listening right now may not remember this.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: But who did Deshaun Watson play for in college?
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Dabo Sweeney at Clemson.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: Oh he was legit.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: And Dabbo Sweeney, when it was draft time for Deshaun Watson, here's this was his quote.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: He said, anybody passing on Deshaun Watson would be like passing on Michael Jordan.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: And Deshaun is is not Michael Jordan.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I don't even know if he's Michael Jackson.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: Well, Kenny, I will tell you this.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: I mean I saw him play at Texas, and you know, when he's with the Texans, and he was dynamic.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: And you know, he got in some trouble, and when the when I heard he was coming to Cleveland, I thought, oh crap.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: They finally got their quarterback that can run and throw.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: And it just did it has for whatever reason, Kenny, there has not been a quarterback that has sustained longevity there since Bernie.
- 32:25SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, I mean, it was Bernie was that gritty.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna hang in there, make plays, I'm gonna do whatever I can and whatever I have to do to get a first down.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: They had the backs, you know, uh Mac and all those guys coming out of the backfield.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: They had a just a massive offensive line.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Um I will tell you this, Spencer Faino and Austin Barber looked solid for Cleveland uh in their you know, in their professional debuts.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: They really did.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: Um the special teams did have a spark there.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: Uh Raheem Sanders, um I think he provided excellent field positioning uh with a long kickoff return there.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Um but with Samson out and leaving it all on Judkins, um, it was just it was just a tough, tough, tough thing to overcome.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: And you know, now they got to go into Tampa Bay, who now is in a must-win situation.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: And I'm let me tell you what, Tampa Bay is no joke.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: And Baker Mayfield's gonna have some motivation too.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, Cincinnati had to play uh just an excellent game, get those turnovers to beat Tampa Bay.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: Tampa Bay is gonna be there in the end, Kenny, uh in the NFC.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, they're they're they're a very good team.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: And you know, I just think that uh it's it's gonna be interesting to see how they respond.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: They got to go back down to the Florida Heat again.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: And um you know, they they Tampa Bay played Cincinnati Tough.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And I it's gonna be a uh potentially long day again for the Browns.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: And then that leads into week three, where Munkins gonna have to make a decision.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: And uh you know, the the fans, I I can't imagine if they come back 0-2 and Deshaun Watson runs back out behind in the starting lineup, that fan base, it'll be everybody booing.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: I can guarantee it.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: That's how frustrated Cleveland fans are.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: What I don't understand is you watch the NFL and you see these teams, they they they're bad for a while, and then eventually they get some draft picks and things start going their way.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: And like I don't know, Chicago Bears.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: They they they start playing well.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Cleveland is on this treadmill that it's on like level 10 and it's at a elevated to 10, and they just can't find that thing where you know maybe it they just scrap it and go for a total youth movement and just see what happens because I if if you're playing for a the number one draft pick and you're gonna pick a quarterback, everybody talks this weekend, they gotta get Manning.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: If you get if you if you do that and you get and Manning's your pick, you're gonna sell a lot of jerseys.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: I just don't know if that's gonna be the answer.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: It's not gonna be the answer.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, I uh you know, I uh I like the kid from Miami.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, there there's there's ten other quarterbacks that I would take before Arch Manning.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: I'm not taking anything away from Arch Manning.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: But Kenny, when he was pressured, you saw how he played.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: When he's unpressured, he can sit back there and throw it.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: Now, who cannot do that?
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, you put you put the quarterback from Austin P back behind that line and let him sit back there all day, he's gonna do the same thing, Kenny.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's not you know, here's the good news for I mean Jacob Parrish, the top cornerback for Tampa Bay, is out.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: He's probably gonna be out.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: He got hurt in the Cincinnati game.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: But part of me wonders that when Todd Mankin when he made that that call that you know, um Shadur was gonna start, you know, I think he kind of foresee this, you know, I'm going, hey, I'm going down to Jacksonville and then I gotta go down to Tampa Bay.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: And he's like, I'm in a win-win situation here.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: You know, if Shadur looks bad, then I go to uh You mean if Watson looks bad?
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: If Watson looks bad, then I go to Shadur, right?
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: And if he looks good, then I made the then it looks like I made the right decision.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: So it was kind of a win-win situation.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I I don't know.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: I I got I got Tampa Bay winning that game 34-17.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I I just I just think Tampa Bay has a the they're a great team.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: They get I think they're better than Jacksonville.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, so uh the Cleveland's got their work cut out for them.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: And they sure, in my opinion, miss Jim Swartz as a defensive coordinator.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: But yeah, uh, you know, that's that's kind of the other thing.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh Mike Rutenberg, you know, the new coordinator, you know, I mean, he surrendered six scores in the first seven drives.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: It's like so uh, you know, with Cleveland's defense, I mean, that's that's tough to do.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, it really is.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Well, let's uh let's make a couple picks here.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: I kind of wrote out a couple games here, going to the college football.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Really good game.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: I think outside of the LSU old miss game, but I think the SMU Louisville game is going to be a fun one to watch.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: And Lincoln Kingholtz, former buckeye, is just tearing it up at Louisville.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Um SMU's getting a point and a half.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Who you got in that game?
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Uh I said it last week.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: I made a mistake that played for UK.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, but no, he's a Louisville guy.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: And and I I tell you what, he's just getting better and better with his feet, with his present, uh, his presence in the pocket.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: Um, SMU's gonna have their work cut out for him.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: I like Louisville.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, I do too.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: This is a game that is a matchup of two coaches that are new head coaches.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Florida plays Auburn, and Florida's minus two and a half.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: Hey, I I taught Alex Golis in class.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: All right, for he's for he's a Dublin uh Soyota kid, uh, just a great kid.
- 38:47SPEAKER_03: Um, I think he has everything going for him, but that schedule that Auburn plays is unbelievable.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, this past uh week they had finally had an off week that they could just go out there and play and you know work on some things, but um Auburn's gonna have their hands full with Florida.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be another close game.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: Um I'd like to see Auburn win that game.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: I'm just not so sure.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: I would have to do a lot more research into that, Kenny.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'd stay away from that game.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be that's gonna be a tight one.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think them bring Florida bringing over the coach from Tulane.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: I think it's summer all maybe.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: He yeah, that guy can coach.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: And I think Florida is gonna get back on track and they're gonna continue to win there.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: And the game that is which surprises me, LSU at Ole Miss, it is the highest price ticket game in college football this season.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: And Lane Kiffin going back to Ole Miss, that is gonna be must see TV.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: He's gonna have to have an arm guard uh around him all the time, you know, just to be safe.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, I mean LSU struggled last week with Louisiana Tech.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: And uh, I mean, you know, one week they look that that's a Lane Kiffin team right there.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: One week they look unbelievable, and the next week they look like, oh my gosh, how do you guys look so bad?
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: You know, so um if that's the case, uh how many how many points is uh OMS?
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: LSU's favored by three.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Well that'd be a tough one.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, off the top of my head, I say go go with LSU.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know how he gets in these these big time games.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, he puts all his stock.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't be surprised, Kenny, if they were practicing against LSU or Old Miss last week when they were playing Louisiana Tech.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: That's possible, yeah.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, you know, it's one of those things where, you know, uh maybe LSU will go out and just roll them.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Well, in the NFL, the three games I picked out for you Cincinnati plus three at Houston.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: I'll take Cincinnati in three points all day long.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: With that defense only getting better, um, we're healthy.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Um Houston is banged up.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, they're linebackers.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're gonna have basically two guys off the practice squad in there.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: Uh linebacker.
- 41:16SPEAKER_03: You put them against uh in a practice squad and you put them against Joe Burrow.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I mean, we're gonna eat it up right now over the middle all day long.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: I think uh Chase Brown will have another strong game.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, and uh Houston's DBs better come to play.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Jacksonville plus two and a half at Denver.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I think uh Jacksonville um might have had a little um false hope uh, you know, playing against the Browns, who were really, you know, as you can see, were unprepared to play that game.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: Uh you can really tell who in the NFL was really prepared to play and start the NFL season and who wasn't.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: And you know, a lot of these teams got surprised.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, the Jets were ready to play.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: You know, Tennessee wasn't ready to play.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: Uh we'll find out, you know, a lot about you know what happens um, you know, with the game tonight because we're filming early this week.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I still for some reason, Kenny, I still love Bo Nicks and Denver.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say Jacksonville because only because I think their team is rested up because they only had to play two and a half quarters.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: Good point.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Good point.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: And Denver will be playing on a short week.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: And Pittsburgh is plus five and a half at New England.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, I would take uh New England minus five and a half.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, and I've been very critical of Aaron Rodgers, um, and he's made a liar out of me several times.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Um, but if you're saying that Pittsburgh is going to throw up, you know, above 24 points, yeah, I'd say you're crazy.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I just don't think that's in their DNA.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I don't think they have the receivers to do that.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: You know, I don't think um that uh Rodgers can run around in the pocket uh and do that.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: And if uh the Patriots shut down the run game um and just pin their ears back and go after Rodgers, then you know it's gonna be a long day for Pittsburgh.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: So I would take New England uh minus five and a half.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm gonna agree with you on that.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: I'm going New England there.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Who do you have as your lock and upset this week, whether it's college or pro NFL?
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: Uh my lock this week would be the Bills minus three over Detroit.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Uh Detroit had to win in overtime against New Orleans.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: They New Orleans, they just could not put New Orleans away.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Um that quarterback for New Orleans, uh Shaw or Show, whatever his name is, down there, just had a field day and a secondary against Detroit.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: What do you think um Josh Allen's gonna do?
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think he's gonna you know It's their uh opener up there.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be a Thursday night game.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: So I'm thinking the Bills minus three against Detroit.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: That's my lock.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: I like I also like the Jets plus four and a half coming up.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: And I like Tampa Bay minus eight and a half against the Browns, unfortunately, Kenny.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: I do have four college games.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: We did very well again last week.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I called the armed services to get beat, and they did.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: They got beat by Florida Atlantic, Navy did, and Army got beat by South South Florida.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: You know, we called Duke with the points getting beat uh or beating uh Illinois.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: That's what happened to as well.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: Um I like the over uh 53 and a half in the Houston, Texas Tech game, Kenny.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: I think that they could score 70 points in that game, I think.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: So um I like the over in that one.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: I like Iowa State plus 23.5.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: They're coming off a big um, you know, that that well, they they did cover against Iowa, uh, but they're playing bowling green.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: Bowling Green's had two massively tough games.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: Uh they got beat uh by a one double A team.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: Um and then uh they got beat very, very bad by uh a Big Ten team last week.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: So um I like Iowa State big in that game.
- 45:15SPEAKER_03: I do like University of Cincinnati, the Bearcats minus 14.5 over Miami of Ohio.
- 45:21SPEAKER_03: Um so I like that one, and then I like the over 54 and a half in the Georgia-Arkansas game.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Well, I the two that I picked out was uh I I want to say that Rutgers is getting 23 against USC.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: I think USC's gonna just put the hammer on them, and it's it's not gonna be pretty.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: So I'd say take USC, and then my upset uh I picked earlier, Jacksonville getting uh two and a half uh over the Denver Broncos.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Yep, sounds good.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: I I also picked the Bengals winning uh in a close one against Houston 24-23.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: Um and I'm gonna pick the Buckeyes uh 66 to zip over Kent State, the Golden Flashes.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Yes, I got Buckeyes winning 55 to 7.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: Hopefully it's a lot more than they just the line on that game is uh uh 52 and a half minus 52 and a half, and then the over-under is fifty-eight and a half.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: So you took both those, you would win it.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: Well, do you have anything else to wrap up the week?
- 46:34SPEAKER_03: No, I think we're doing really good on our picks, Kenny.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: I think we are uh spot on on a lot of these things too, as well, and just the oversight that we're seeing, you know, especially Ohio State.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I just can't reiterate the fact enough that I think this game will only help us and bolster us going forward.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: And, you know, I think um we just need to pin our ears back and let these four and five stars play.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: Let them go, let them go make plays.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, I agree.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: Well, it's uh episode three of the SOB podcast, Scarlet Orange and Brown.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: I'm Ken Carpenter.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: I'm Chris Husman.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening, and please be sure to share it with a friend.
