- 0:00Speaker 1: Who could have missed you? Boy, I thought we were
- 0:03Speaker 1: gonna be house forever, but we're gonna have to say
- 0:08Speaker 1: goodbye because you don't understand the single word I say.
- 0:13Speaker 2: If you just knew how important it was to learn
- 0:15Speaker 2: blood lots, Wait a minute, you did it?
- 0:24Speaker 1: Lead you down? Shake hands, stay.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Speak all right, good boy?
- 0:36Speaker 4: Four finger Discount dude.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Welcome to four figure discand where this week we had
- 0:56Speaker 5: gone all the way back to season two to review
- 0:59Speaker 5: an episode that I were discussing off the air is
- 1:02Speaker 5: more emotion driven than humor, but as an episode to
- 1:05Speaker 5: pay tribute to my lovable dog Jet, who lost a
- 1:07Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago. He was a mascot here at
- 1:09Speaker 5: four thing a discount, we are, of course reviewing Bart's
- 1:11Speaker 5: Dog gets an a F.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Fine bando, and I am guy. You may have seen
- 1:14Speaker 3: me on the cover of Steam Steam magazine.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Yeah, lots of teen magazines. Yeah, it took me back
- 1:18Speaker 5: to reading magazines. But we'll get into that though. But
- 1:21Speaker 5: Bars Dog gets an F Your first thoughts on this episode,
- 1:25Speaker 5: because for me, I'm watching this going I wouldn't really
- 1:27Speaker 5: call this a funny episode. It's got its funny moments,
- 1:31Speaker 5: but I don't think it really needed to be. I
- 1:33Speaker 5: think I don't think it really wanted to be a
- 1:35Speaker 5: funny episode, this one. I think it was more about
- 1:37Speaker 5: the emotional story of a boy and his.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Dog, don't you know. I think some well a family
- 1:42Speaker 3: and their dog. Absolutely yeah, true, yeah, yeah, yeah, not
- 1:44Speaker 3: really a joke delivery system. This particular episode a nice
- 1:48Speaker 3: vein of humor running through, a humor born of frustration,
- 1:52Speaker 3: I think, and I think anyone who's ever had a
- 1:55Speaker 3: pet can can relate to that frustration, because you know,
- 1:58Speaker 3: we all love our four legged friends, or our friends
- 2:01Speaker 3: who have wings or gills. You know, we're not just
- 2:03Speaker 3: talking about cats and dogs here, but particularly like a
- 2:06Speaker 3: cat or dog, we all have wonderful one. You have
- 2:10Speaker 3: so many great memories of Jet, I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure.
- 2:12Speaker 3: There were occasions when it's like, that's not where you
- 2:15Speaker 3: take a piss pal.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Or well it was always houseburn, but sometimes you hid
- 2:19Speaker 5: fart all the time, which again wasn't his problem. He
- 2:21Speaker 5: sure would He couldn't help that, but yeah, he would fight.
- 2:24Speaker 5: That was that was the worst thing he did.
- 2:26Speaker 3: He never chewed anything, He never went to the toilet inside. Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 3: but you can have a pet and you can love
- 2:32Speaker 3: a pet with all your heart and soul and still
- 2:35Speaker 3: want to be like, I am this close to taken
- 2:39Speaker 3: you out to, you know, a deserted place on the
- 2:42Speaker 3: highway and tying you up and just leaving you on
- 2:44Speaker 3: the side of the road because oh, you have made
- 2:47Speaker 3: such a mess, or oh you ate my dinner or
- 2:50Speaker 3: something along those lines. So yeah, I think everyone can
- 2:53Speaker 3: relate to that. But no matter how frustrated you get
- 2:56Speaker 3: with your pets, sometimes there is always that feeling, well,
- 2:59Speaker 3: this is love and this is part of the family.
- 3:01Speaker 3: I cannot and will not hear anything against you.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, we've because they do become an extension of the family.
- 3:07Speaker 5: You forget that they're not people, they're they're they're animals. Yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 5: and so sometimes they don't quite understand I think they really.
- 3:16Speaker 5: When we came to the directing of this episode, showing
- 3:18Speaker 5: it from the dog's perspective was very important because this
- 3:21Speaker 5: dog wasn't being disobedient by choice. It just had to
- 3:26Speaker 5: be rescued. First and foremost. You never had the privilege
- 3:28Speaker 5: of being taught anything. The Simpsons family aren't exactly the
- 3:31Speaker 5: greatest teachers in the world. There are an erratic wild bunch,
- 3:35Speaker 5: so he's living in chaos, so he's going to be
- 3:37Speaker 5: a chaotic dog. And I just think that he didn't understand.
- 3:42Speaker 5: He was just being himself and seeing it from the
- 3:45Speaker 5: dog's perspective. Seeing that he didn't understand what was going on.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Great payoff at the end when he actually understands the
- 3:50Speaker 5: word sit. But I think it was very important to
- 3:52Speaker 5: show this dog isn't being naughty because he wants to
- 3:54Speaker 5: be naughty. He just doesn't get it.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't blame a dog for being a dog, no,
- 4:00Speaker 3: And yeah, I think that's something the episode to really
- 4:03Speaker 3: put forward. Of course, you can have obedience training and
- 4:06Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff. I think it's often quite
- 4:08Speaker 3: necessary to do that kind of thing. I mean, but
- 4:10Speaker 3: if you don't want your animal sort of running while
- 4:12Speaker 3: if also if you don't want it to be a
- 4:13Speaker 3: danger to itself and others, but also be careful how
- 4:17Speaker 3: you train, because you know this is a member of
- 4:18Speaker 3: your family. Treat it with the love and respect, but also, yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and a little bit of discipline as well. Yeah, let's
- 4:25Speaker 3: maybe not go to the extent that I'm sorry.
- 4:27Speaker 5: What's it, Emily Willthrop.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I was confused because you've got Emily Wilthrop and Winthrop
- 4:33Speaker 3: and Sylvia.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Winfield Sorry it's Winthrop, yeah, and Winfield. So Susie Winfield
- 4:38Speaker 5: is the neighbor next door saying get your dog out
- 4:41Speaker 5: of my pool.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Before I realized, let's talk about some Tracy Ullman stuff.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Tracy Ellmand voices both of these characters. There's a whole
- 4:48Speaker 3: lot of Tracy Ellmand stuff that we're going to go
- 4:50Speaker 3: into in this episode. But when I first heard that character, Sylvia,
- 4:55Speaker 3: the snooty neighbor, I'm like, why didn't this person become
- 4:58Speaker 3: a recurring character. Why don't we get more of this person?
- 5:00Speaker 3: Why don't we get the missus deegal of a Springfield
- 5:03Speaker 3: that's a gremlin's reference if in case you didn't get it,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you know, the snooty next door neighbor's like, I just
- 5:09Speaker 3: like your dog. It's ripping up my pras as AliOS
- 5:12Speaker 3: or something along those lines. I think that'd be a
- 5:14Speaker 3: great adversary for someone like Home or any any member
- 5:17Speaker 3: of the Springfield community. And then discover oh, she's voiced
- 5:21Speaker 3: by the special guest.
- 5:23Speaker 5: And who wasn't invited back. But I think as we'll
- 5:25Speaker 5: get into in a few moments, it'll all makes sense
- 5:27Speaker 5: as to why she didn't come back.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That's correct to quote a song. Money changes every day,
- 5:33Speaker 3: but I thought Tracy Onmand did a fantastic job voicing
- 5:37Speaker 3: both of these characters had a real ball with it.
- 5:39Speaker 5: But before we get into our full review here of
- 5:41Speaker 5: Butt snug Gets an Fforts, want to throw a shout

- 6:16Speaker 5: got a lot in return, so I've got to hear
- 6:18Speaker 5: my note. So why bars dog gets in there? And
- 6:20Speaker 5: as I mentioned earlier, we recently lost Jet and I
- 6:22Speaker 5: felt like this was the episode their best pay tribute
- 6:24Speaker 5: to Pumba as we called him, because I think this
- 6:25Speaker 5: is the story that's driven more by the raw of
- 6:27Speaker 5: motion than the gags, as I was saying, and I
- 6:29Speaker 5: think it's important for TV comedies to occasionally have these episodes,
- 6:32Speaker 5: particularly sitcoms. This shows the sitcoms simply be animated or not,
- 6:36Speaker 5: and you have to have these episodes that we used
- 6:40Speaker 5: always refer to the most very special episodes. I wouldn't
- 6:42Speaker 5: call this a very special episode, but it's an episode
- 6:45Speaker 5: that relies more on the emotion behind the characters, and
- 6:47Speaker 5: it just adds layers to these character because in sitcoms,
- 6:50Speaker 5: you're going to want to believe in these characters, gonna
- 6:53Speaker 5: want to relate to these characters, and these are the
- 6:55Speaker 5: episodes that help you relate to the more. I think
- 6:57Speaker 5: by this point, but we're still seen as a little
- 7:00Speaker 5: Brady kid, but you can't help as a dog lover
- 7:03Speaker 5: or just a human being in general watching this episode
- 7:07Speaker 5: and not be just taken aback by the emotional ending
- 7:11Speaker 5: just before the sadest Little Helper actually does follow the orders.
- 7:13Speaker 5: When Bart thinks he's going to lose his best friend,
- 7:16Speaker 5: you tear up every time.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Well, it's one of the most primal things is missing someone.
- 7:21Speaker 3: For him to say, I'm going to miss you, it's like,
- 7:23Speaker 3: holy moly, Yeah, they're not going to be in your
- 7:24Speaker 3: life anymore. Yeah, that's very, very saddening and very emotional. Yeah,
- 7:28Speaker 3: you're right, and you're correct on what you're saying about. Yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 3: a show, particularly yeah, or especially like a sitcom needs
- 7:36Speaker 3: episodes like this to sort of deepen your emotional connection
- 7:39Speaker 3: to the characters. I mean, of course, with a situation comedy,
- 7:42Speaker 3: you're going to get him in the door with the gags.
- 7:44Speaker 3: This is a family. It's oh, it's dysfunctional. Oh, it's chaotic. Ah,
- 7:47Speaker 3: there are in each other's throats just like us. And
- 7:50Speaker 3: once you've sort of broken the ice with the audience
- 7:53Speaker 3: by creating that bond of like, oh, we're laughing at
- 7:56Speaker 3: them and with them, that's when you can pull a
- 7:59Speaker 3: little bit of an emotional sucker punch and go, well,
- 8:02Speaker 3: guess what, you know, you're laughing at these folks. But
- 8:04Speaker 3: you know a lot of a lot of the shit
- 8:05Speaker 3: they're going through, you've probably gone through it as well,
- 8:07Speaker 3: or you will go through it. You walk away from
- 8:10Speaker 3: an episode like bats against and f going yeah, as
- 8:14Speaker 3: we said, we laugh about it, but yeah, they're just
- 8:16Speaker 3: like me. And you enjoyed the show more as a result,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and I think you enjoyed the humor a bit more
- 8:21Speaker 3: as a result as well.
- 8:22Speaker 5: You mentioned the line before, I'm going to miss your boy.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I thought we'd be friends forever. So I'm watching this
- 8:26Speaker 5: last night. Kids are at my parents' places on a Tuesday,
- 8:28Speaker 5: Nicholas in bed. She's going a bit early. She starts
- 8:30Speaker 5: work early in Melbourne, so I'm sitting there by myself.
- 8:32Speaker 5: Normally that's where Jet would be with me. And it
- 8:34Speaker 5: was that scene, I think in particular, where I'm going
- 8:37Speaker 5: to like it just like it hit me and I
- 8:39Speaker 5: start like Sally crying. It was almost like this episode helped.
- 8:43Speaker 5: It's like, it's weird how we come to terms with
- 8:44Speaker 5: my grief of losing Jet. It's try trying to cry it.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Oh man, fuck all right, Bud. It was hard. It
- 8:54Speaker 3: is hard, man. I mean, yeah, you pour a lot
- 8:56Speaker 3: of your heart and your soul into your pets. Man.
- 8:58Speaker 3: I mean, and they're there for you. I mean they
- 9:00Speaker 3: give you unconditional love, which is a rare and wonderful
- 9:04Speaker 3: thing to have in this life. There are many many
- 9:06Speaker 3: times in my I mean, I'm not a dog guy,
- 9:09Speaker 3: as you know, I'm a cat man. I've been very
- 9:13Speaker 3: fortunate in my adult life over the last couple of
- 9:17Speaker 3: decades to have the wonderful Jackson the cat. He was fantastic,
- 9:21Speaker 3: the beautiful Charlie girl. And now I've got Basie, the
- 9:23Speaker 3: black cat. Basie, God love him, friendly dude, a lot
- 9:28Speaker 3: of personality, dumb as a fucking stump. Where where'd you
- 9:32Speaker 3: get him from? My lovely friends Mark and Nats. When
- 9:36Speaker 3: Charlie passed away and I was singleer these days like go,
- 9:40Speaker 3: I need someone in the house. They I cannot be
- 9:45Speaker 3: in that house by himself. Things will fall apart. They
- 9:51Speaker 3: had a friend with a farm. The farm had a cat.
- 9:53Speaker 3: The cat had kittens, and yeah, one day they rocked
- 9:58Speaker 3: her and they well, first of all, they gaged by
- 9:59Speaker 3: andres said we to be interested in another cat. I said,
- 10:01Speaker 3: of course, I love cats. I came over with this little, tiny,
- 10:04Speaker 3: little black furry number popped him in my lap, and
- 10:07Speaker 3: he's been there for the last seven or eight years. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 3: but as I said, complete dummy. And there are times
- 10:15Speaker 3: when I will get incredibly frustrated him and sort of
- 10:18Speaker 3: don't be under my feet. It's not that hard. Say
- 10:21Speaker 3: thank you for your food. Don't jump up on the
- 10:24Speaker 3: bench and eat that chicken that I turned my back
- 10:27Speaker 3: by five seconds and you're ready the chicken that I've
- 10:28Speaker 3: gotta got instantly, Instantly, it will be like, oh man,
- 10:34Speaker 3: you're a cat dad, don't don't be yelling at your
- 10:37Speaker 3: furry son. And yeah. An internet friend of mine recently
- 10:41Speaker 3: wrote a lovely tribute to he had a tough run.
- 10:44Speaker 3: He had two cats pass away in like the space
- 10:46Speaker 3: of Fortnite. They've got a few cats in the house.
- 10:48Speaker 3: He wrote a lovely tribute to it. But one of
- 10:51Speaker 3: the lines that really stuck out me is like, I
- 10:53Speaker 3: hope we did right by you. And that's it's incredible
- 10:55Speaker 3: responsibility you take on. I mean, we talk about pen
- 10:58Speaker 3: ownership like it's you've got a dog, you got a cat, whatever.
- 11:01Speaker 3: It's a big responsibility and it does a lot of
- 11:03Speaker 3: things for you and your family. So you know, it's
- 11:06Speaker 3: not just thrown out a handful of kibble and you know,
- 11:10Speaker 3: trying to shit on the rug like, I don't know, man,
- 11:13Speaker 3: It's it's a tough one for Jet.
- 11:16Speaker 5: He was so unwell for the last like twelve months.
- 11:18Speaker 5: I felt like my whole life evolved around keeping him
- 11:21Speaker 5: alive almost and I live with just his anxiety. If
- 11:23Speaker 5: every time i'd leave the house, I'd almost I'd have
- 11:25Speaker 5: this fear of opening the front door and hit because
- 11:27Speaker 5: you have seizure sometimes, and luckily I was around most
- 11:30Speaker 5: of the time to prevent them from happening. But I
- 11:32Speaker 5: had this fear of coming home to him being dead.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Esficially right, so it was the right time he was
- 11:38Speaker 5: just he'd had enough. But I almost feel it's guilt
- 11:41Speaker 5: because now I feel somewhat free, and it feels weird
- 11:44Speaker 5: because I miss him, but it's good for me emotionally.
- 11:49Speaker 3: That he's not here. No, No, that makes a lot
- 11:51Speaker 3: of sense, it really does. I mean, of course you're
- 11:53Speaker 3: going to feel some degree of guilt or feeling like
- 11:56Speaker 3: a sense of relief. It doesn't diminish the life that
- 12:00Speaker 3: your had for him, of course it doesn't. But yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 3: you just have to learn how to sort of reframe
- 12:06Speaker 3: that and they're like, well, yeah, now they're at rest.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Yeah, because I just try and be strong for the kids,
- 12:11Speaker 5: particularly Alien. It's hit him, mab, so you're just watching
- 12:13Speaker 5: this that of sort of just tear it up. And
- 12:15Speaker 5: I just went, ah, I think it's time that I
- 12:16Speaker 5: can now agrieve.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, absolutely, have you thought about getting another animal?
- 12:22Speaker 5: Well sometimes patrons asked about this and not like the
- 12:25Speaker 5: idea is it came straight into my mind, But I went,
- 12:26Speaker 5: I don't think it's the right time yet. I don't
- 12:29Speaker 5: want to make a I don't want to jump into
- 12:32Speaker 5: it and go, oh, now I've got responsibility again. I
- 12:33Speaker 5: think I'm just gonna have to enjoy being able to
- 12:35Speaker 5: just I said to Nicola. We drove and picked up Jet.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Hey got cremated here with us on the table, still
- 12:40Speaker 5: in his box, but we got him. We picked up
- 12:43Speaker 5: from Bendy Go. So well, for the first time, we're
- 12:45Speaker 5: able to get in the car and say where do
- 12:47Speaker 5: you want to go? Kids, And we'll come back whenever
- 12:49Speaker 5: we feel like it. Yeah, because we always had to
- 12:51Speaker 5: come back for Jet because we couldn't. He used to
- 12:53Speaker 5: fret if we would leave for too long. He fret
- 12:55Speaker 5: with the kids weren't here, so we got be able
- 12:56Speaker 5: to do anything. So I think I said to Nicola.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Kids keep saying we get a kit and can we
- 13:00Speaker 5: get another dog? And I'm like, we will eventually. Right now,
- 13:04Speaker 5: Mom and Dad just need to enjoy being able to
- 13:07Speaker 5: just go in and create memories and adventures of course.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I think the other important thing to recognize
- 13:12Speaker 3: don't think anyone who has had a pet will understand
- 13:14Speaker 3: this is and particularly you know, if you've got a family,
- 13:18Speaker 3: if you've got kids, introducing a pet in the family,
- 13:21Speaker 3: it's a great sort of lesson about responsibility and a
- 13:23Speaker 3: great lesson about life and death as well. Yeah, I mean,
- 13:26Speaker 3: it's of course it's sad for Elliott and Holly that
- 13:28Speaker 3: their beloved dog is gone, but it's also an understanding.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It's like, well, life's a finite thing, man, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 3: And this is not to diminish the love that everyone
- 13:40Speaker 3: had for Jet or any pet that anyone has, but
- 13:43Speaker 3: they also provide a lesson in that regard as like
- 13:47Speaker 3: it's almost like a test run for when someone human
- 13:50Speaker 3: life passes away, if you know what I mean.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm glad Elliott was old enough and Holly was
- 13:54Speaker 5: old enough as well, just but she didn't quite know
- 13:57Speaker 5: what was going on, because I think once he was gone,
- 13:59Speaker 5: I don't think she quite realized, oh, he's not coming
- 14:01Speaker 5: back where Alliott?
- 14:02Speaker 3: It hit him hard. Yes, yeah, but I'm glad.
- 14:04Speaker 5: It's old enough to sort of understand it, because we
- 14:06Speaker 5: could explain it to him, we could prepare him for it,
- 14:08Speaker 5: because I think being younger and all of a sudden
- 14:11Speaker 5: your dog's gone, you're not really understanding why that would
- 14:13Speaker 5: be harder to well.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Sure. Growing up, when I was a kid, we had
- 14:18Speaker 3: a couple of beagles, and I think one got to
- 14:19Speaker 3: a very ripe old age. But also you know, by
- 14:23Speaker 3: the end, as you said with Jed, you've lost a
- 14:26Speaker 3: few steps, and you know it's hard for you to
- 14:29Speaker 3: do everything like that. I remember just spending like an
- 14:31Speaker 3: afternoon after school in the garage with Bonnie the beagle,
- 14:35Speaker 3: lying in her box, finally hard to breathe, and I
- 14:39Speaker 3: don't know, it was a real bracing sort of lesson
- 14:41Speaker 3: in it's coming, Oh it's coming. Yeah, And I felt
- 14:45Speaker 3: this incredible complex surge of emotions, which it was tough
- 14:52Speaker 3: to deal with at the time, but I think was
- 14:54Speaker 3: a valuable in a lot of ways. So yeah, look,
- 14:57Speaker 3: it's a cliche when someone has gone. It is like,
- 14:59Speaker 3: you know, don't be said that they're gone. To be
- 15:02Speaker 3: happy that they lived. They taught you a lot and
- 15:04Speaker 3: they gave you a lot. Yeah, and it's okay to
- 15:06Speaker 3: be sad. Oh yeah, of course it is.
- 15:08Speaker 5: I kept saying to Aliot, if you want to cry, cry,
- 15:10Speaker 5: it's not gonna be embarrassed by crying, Like, it's okay, and.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You've got a burkely good reason to do so bad. Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 5: And when he was at school, apparently he got upset
- 15:17Speaker 5: and his friends were like, no, it's okay because you've
- 15:19Speaker 5: got like embarrassed. He was crying from of his friends,
- 15:21Speaker 5: but his friends, but no, no, no, it's okay.
- 15:23Speaker 3: That's good.
- 15:23Speaker 5: That's great that his friends were supportive like that.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 5: But yeah, as a dog out to particularly someone who
- 15:27Speaker 5: just lost their dog, I thought this this episode particular,
- 15:30Speaker 5: was a real emotional rollercoaster. He went from its like
- 15:33Speaker 5: there was anger with the Emily Winthrop episode character, there
- 15:37Speaker 5: was sadness, there was happiness, there was so much to
- 15:40Speaker 5: go through, just a real role coaster. On thoughts episode,
- 15:42Speaker 5: I thought John Vidde did a fantastic job of really
- 15:44Speaker 5: intertwining the two stories as well, because I'm both emotion driven.
- 15:49Speaker 5: But the use of in particular of the prop of
- 15:51Speaker 5: the quilt. I thought he the quilt played a key
- 15:55Speaker 5: role in both stories, but in an organic way that
- 15:58Speaker 5: felt natural. Took him back, because Seinfeld, there's no for
- 16:00Speaker 5: trying to intertwine all the stories. It seems it does
- 16:02Speaker 5: it as well most sitcoms do it, but I thought
- 16:04Speaker 5: it just felt so natural in this one here.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a better example of that kind of thing,
- 16:10Speaker 3: because it seems like from the beginning that it's open
- 16:13Speaker 3: season on just about anything in the Simpson household. Nothing
- 16:16Speaker 3: is safe. You know, you get a little frustrated, like, ah, man,
- 16:20Speaker 3: I wanted to read the paper and now it's got
- 16:22Speaker 3: dog's lobber all over it all. You know half what
- 16:24Speaker 3: does he say? I think the first lightest, not the
- 16:26Speaker 3: sports section. Yeah, you get frustrated. Oh yeah, your breakfast
- 16:30Speaker 3: gets eaten off the off the kitchen table or whatever.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It's like, ah, god, damn it. But you know, you
- 16:35Speaker 3: can just easily pick up an egg McMuffin on the
- 16:36Speaker 3: way to work. But I loved how they sort of
- 16:40Speaker 3: ramped it up over the course of the episode. Home
- 16:42Speaker 3: has forked out a lot of money for these assassins,
- 16:45Speaker 3: and they immediately get chewed to bits. But yeah, the
- 16:47Speaker 3: whole thing with the with the quilt, Yeah, and how
- 16:51Speaker 3: much it's a part of Marge's family history and how
- 16:54Speaker 3: she hopes it's going to be a tradition moving forward
- 16:56Speaker 3: on that. It's like, oh no, this is a Chekhov's quilt.
- 16:59Speaker 3: You're introducing the first Dad is going to get fucked
- 17:00Speaker 3: up in the third, maybe even in the second act.
- 17:03Speaker 3: But I must admit when when it happened, I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 3: it's like, ah, God, damn it, sanders all out. But
- 17:10Speaker 3: because you know, we pour so much of ourselves into stuff,
- 17:17Speaker 3: don't we, And yeah, physical objects, but I don't just
- 17:22Speaker 3: mean like stuff like that. I'm also mean our animals
- 17:26Speaker 3: as well. I mean, of course they they love us, man,
- 17:30Speaker 3: because we feed them. But you have to have something
- 17:35Speaker 3: that you've poured so much of your emotion into to
- 17:38Speaker 3: have it torn apart. It really does set up a
- 17:41Speaker 3: bit of dramatic tension, doesn't it. Okay, yeah, look a
- 17:44Speaker 3: dog as a member of the family, but it's also
- 17:46Speaker 3: a dog. And if it's going to be just doing
- 17:48Speaker 3: this all the time, what kind of bleed on effect
- 17:51Speaker 3: is that going to have? Is this going to create
- 17:52Speaker 3: tension in the household? Is it? You know we're going
- 17:54Speaker 3: to be snapping in each other because of you know? Yeah.
- 17:57Speaker 3: So yeah, it's a funny episode in a lot of ways.
- 17:59Speaker 3: As we said, not really joke driven everything like that.
- 18:01Speaker 3: The humor emerges more from the situations and the frustration
- 18:04Speaker 3: they're feeling. It's also got a lot of emotions, also
- 18:07Speaker 3: kind of got genuine dramatic stakes in a lot of ways.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Well, I wanted to touch on that because when you
- 18:13Speaker 5: watch this as a kid, you kind of get annoyed
- 18:14Speaker 5: that Homer and Marge are willing to give sat this
- 18:16Speaker 5: a little helpful away.
- 18:16Speaker 3: You think, how can you do? This is your dog?
- 18:18Speaker 5: But as you're mentioning, they're the emotional connection and the
- 18:22Speaker 5: history of this quilt. I think it's fully justified that
- 18:25Speaker 5: at this point margin Homer, this dog clearly needs a
- 18:28Speaker 5: different house. It can't be here anymore. It's obviously bored,
- 18:31Speaker 5: it's not happy, it's why is it doing these things?
- 18:34Speaker 3: Right?
- 18:34Speaker 5: He obviously loves Bart, but he can't have this shit
- 18:38Speaker 5: constantly getting destroyed. So I think having the quilk get
- 18:40Speaker 5: destroyed was the a perfect explanation of justification for Marjin
- 18:44Speaker 5: h it wanted to get rid of it. Also, it
- 18:46Speaker 5: raises the stakes of the episode as a viewer, because
- 18:48Speaker 5: you're watching this going as a normal Simpsons episode.
- 18:50Speaker 3: If they didn't put.
- 18:52Speaker 5: The ad in the paper and have the potential new
- 18:54Speaker 5: bio or new owner come and see him, then as
- 18:57Speaker 5: a viewer you're probably going they're not really going to
- 18:59Speaker 5: give him away. But as Homer says, we've got to commit.
- 19:01Speaker 5: So having that guy come and Homer saying you picked
- 19:03Speaker 5: up tomorrow, as a view you're going, oh fuck, oh,
- 19:06Speaker 5: they're actually going through. Oh no, they're going to actually
- 19:08Speaker 5: do this. What's art going to do here? Of course
- 19:10Speaker 5: we get them Regulus miracle at the end, which is
- 19:13Speaker 5: kind of whatever, but it was a very a very
- 19:16Speaker 5: nice moment of anything. But I just think having adding
- 19:19Speaker 5: that extra layer of having the owner, the new owner
- 19:22Speaker 5: come and into the into the picture. As a view
- 19:25Speaker 5: you're watching his going oh no, this is serious. They're
- 19:27Speaker 5: going to actually get rid of this dog.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yeah, And to make that potential new owner not necessarily
- 19:33Speaker 3: a villain, but someone who's not going to be like,
- 19:36Speaker 3: oh you lovely new dog. I'm going to be pampering
- 19:39Speaker 3: with It's like, no, there's dog's got to be pulling
- 19:40Speaker 3: a fucking plows. Yeah, it's like, oh damn, not exactly
- 19:45Speaker 3: the life that you're hopeful for, sounds little helper. Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 3: the court is very very important. The cult is kind
- 19:50Speaker 3: of key to this episode. If it had just been
- 19:54Speaker 3: this dog ripped up my dope new sneakers.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it can't. It can't be anything. Just can't be
- 20:00Speaker 5: just a thing that he bought. Has to be something
- 20:01Speaker 5: that means something in history. With the quilt there, it's
- 20:05Speaker 5: something you can't get back because you can. You can
- 20:06Speaker 5: go buy another pair of assassins, you can go buy
- 20:08Speaker 5: another cookie.
- 20:09Speaker 3: In I mean no you can't. But you can't.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Well you can, we're gonna get that touch on that
- 20:13Speaker 5: in a few moments, but you can't. You can't get
- 20:15Speaker 5: back that quilt. So four figure discount is brought to

- 20:46Speaker 5: And I think watching this episode as a kid and
- 20:49Speaker 5: watching it as an adult, particularly as a parent of
- 20:50Speaker 5: a child who has a dog, well had a dog,
- 20:52Speaker 5: you should say you watched it for a two different perspective.
- 20:55Speaker 5: So as I was saying, I always really got annoyed
- 20:57Speaker 5: when Marginhommer did what they were doing, But you're watching
- 20:59Speaker 5: this going it's fully justified, and I don't think I'm
- 21:02Speaker 5: rewatching now. You never get the sense that Marge and
- 21:04Speaker 5: Homer want to get rid of him. Oh no, they
- 21:07Speaker 5: don't want to do it, but they feel like it
- 21:09Speaker 5: just has to be done, like they're gonna have to
- 21:11Speaker 5: be the bad guys because this can't continue. Even Homer
- 21:14Speaker 5: when he says pick him up tomorrow, it doesn't sound
- 21:17Speaker 5: like he wants to do it. Yeah, because at the
- 21:18Speaker 5: end of the day, he's the family dog. He's not
- 21:21Speaker 5: just Bart's dog. And even Lisa has her moments here
- 21:23Speaker 5: where she defends him at the end, and she has
- 21:26Speaker 5: the big spiel and which we'll touch on as well,
- 21:29Speaker 5: But I don't feel like Lisa did that spiel to
- 21:33Speaker 5: prevent them from getting rid of centers to help straight
- 21:35Speaker 5: away and give him the chance to pass school first,
- 21:37Speaker 5: because she necessarily wanted a kicking for her She could
- 21:40Speaker 5: see how much it meant to Bart. Yeah, absolutely, and
- 21:42Speaker 5: she knew that Bart wasn't going to be able to
- 21:46Speaker 5: say in a way that was going to get through
- 21:48Speaker 5: to Homer and Marge to convince them. He wasn't gonna
- 21:50Speaker 5: be convincing enough, so she used her intellect, I guess
- 21:53Speaker 5: you could say, to say, look, this is why we
- 21:56Speaker 5: need to keep and just give him one more chance.
- 21:58Speaker 5: And she won margin Homer over Bart as well, which
- 22:00Speaker 5: I think was a really nice mo because even at
- 22:02Speaker 5: the end she says she go play with him, go
- 22:05Speaker 5: fuck with him, don't do whatever. She throws the ball,
- 22:07Speaker 5: he doesn't do chase it. She sort of mumbles and
- 22:09Speaker 5: walks off us like she loves the dog. But this
- 22:11Speaker 5: is this is Bart's best friend.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Absolutely, And I think something else to point out is
- 22:16Speaker 3: that I get the feeling that the family would probably
- 22:19Speaker 3: tolerate Sanders Leelper's kind of indiscretions and misdemeanors if they
- 22:25Speaker 3: were relatively low steaks or low scale sitting on the
- 22:28Speaker 3: floor or something, oh, ripping up the paper or occasionally
- 22:31Speaker 3: pinching a sausage off off your breakfast plate or whatever.
- 22:34Speaker 3: It's like, dog's gonna dog.
- 22:37Speaker 5: But I do think he was particularly more dog than
- 22:41Speaker 5: normal in this one. He just think he got I
- 22:43Speaker 5: understand that they needed for the story, but it felt like, Oh,
- 22:45Speaker 5: he's all of a sudden a really naughty dog.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he's really misbehaved.
- 22:48Speaker 5: He's never really been he's been an idiot dog. He's
- 22:50Speaker 5: never really been a mischievous dogh man.
- 22:54Speaker 3: That's what. Yeah, for the second, the story that it
- 22:56Speaker 3: worked occasionally got to tweak a few knobs for the sake. Yeah, story.
- 23:01Speaker 3: But let's touch on.
- 23:02Speaker 5: We were mentioning earlier Tracy ol when she plays this
- 23:04Speaker 5: Windfield as well as Emily Winthrop. So, Emily Willinthrop, I've
- 23:09Speaker 5: just got here.
- 23:09Speaker 3: She is a terrible human being. Well, yeah, this is
- 23:13Speaker 3: gonna hit close to the bone for you. I think
- 23:15Speaker 3: this particular stage of the proceedings. Yeah, I mean, you're
- 23:20Speaker 3: missing your pal, and anyone in mistreats a dog is
- 23:22Speaker 3: going to be.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Like, especially someone who's supposed to be helping. But it's
- 23:25Speaker 5: just that cruel to be kind mentality, which I compared
- 23:28Speaker 5: it to. We didn't have for Holly but for Elliott
- 23:31Speaker 5: because we were just new parents. We didn't really know
- 23:33Speaker 5: what we're doing. Nikola wanted to hire a sleep nanny, right,
- 23:37Speaker 5: and a sleep nanny was the He was in the
- 23:40Speaker 5: cotton now room and she goes, let him cry, stand
- 23:42Speaker 5: outside the door, let him cry for three minutes, and
- 23:45Speaker 5: then go in, just tap him on the back so
- 23:46Speaker 5: he stops crying, and then walk out again and wait
- 23:48Speaker 5: for another three minutes. And I remember I tried that.
- 23:51Speaker 5: I'm sitting there and he's crying. He's crying, and I'm going,
- 23:53Speaker 5: you know what, this probably does work, but it's not how.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I wanted to do. It doesn't work for you.
- 24:00Speaker 5: Yeah, so I'm saying, you probably get results with this,
- 24:03Speaker 5: but I'm not a robot, and I can't just stand
- 24:06Speaker 5: here because this is having like I see, it was
- 24:08Speaker 5: bothering Nick And I said, this is going to leave
- 24:09Speaker 5: emotional scarring on me that I feel guilt for. And
- 24:12Speaker 5: I don't like this. And we found something that worked
- 24:15Speaker 5: for us. So what she's doing here with the choke chain. Whatever,
- 24:20Speaker 5: I despise it, I don't agree with it. It probably
- 24:23Speaker 5: gets results, but there are other ways.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, absolutely.
- 24:27Speaker 5: But if you just want to get you know, if
- 24:29Speaker 5: you I'm not saying that you're a bad dog owner
- 24:32Speaker 5: or you know you're a bad parent, but if you
- 24:34Speaker 5: are able to switch off and put emotions aside, then
- 24:38Speaker 5: you can get results quicker. But sometimes the emotional scar
- 24:42Speaker 5: that they can leave not for not necessarily everybody gets
- 24:45Speaker 5: emotionally scar work. But I knew, I knew me personally,
- 24:48Speaker 5: I would live with guilt forever if I'd have sat
- 24:49Speaker 5: there listening to him cry it out.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Of course, No that we horses for courses, man, I
- 24:54Speaker 3: mean everyone's got their own way of doing things. And yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 3: I think there's certainly the tide is turning when it
- 25:02Speaker 3: comes to dog training or animal training. I think you
- 25:05Speaker 3: used to have a lot of like I'll slap some
- 25:07Speaker 3: sense of them, or you know, use the choke chain
- 25:09Speaker 3: or anything like that. Sure, there are some people who
- 25:11Speaker 3: probably still do that, and as you said, it probably
- 25:13Speaker 3: does get results. It speeds up the process a little
- 25:17Speaker 3: bit more. But yeah, I think you have more people
- 25:19Speaker 3: are coming around to your way of thinking in terms
- 25:21Speaker 3: of like, is it really worth it for how I'm
- 25:23Speaker 3: gonna feel, how the animal's gonna feel. We'll just we'll
- 25:26Speaker 3: take the scenic route to get there.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Yeah, a bit of an adventure.
- 25:30Speaker 3: A bit, it's an adventure, it certainly is.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Before we dove fully into Emily Winthrop's let's discuss as
- 25:36Speaker 5: Tracy Olman's connection to the show in general. So we've
- 25:38Speaker 5: all heard the Tracy Almond shorts. That's where the Simpsons started.
- 25:41Speaker 5: There were little shorts that appeared on the Tracy Olman Show,
- 25:43Speaker 5: a sketch comedy.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Show, sketch comedy show in the late.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Eighty seven, I believes on the Simpsons debut on the
- 25:49Speaker 5: show anyway.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Produced by James L. Brooks. Was it really yeah? Yeah?
- 25:52Speaker 5: Oh I did not realize that. So that was the
- 25:54Speaker 5: connection to the Simpsons. Okay, I believe, So let me
- 25:56Speaker 5: just triple check that.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Sorry, man, I know.
- 25:59Speaker 5: That we're Tracy Ulman Show. But so yeah, but all
- 26:03Speaker 5: those shorts, they've never been officially released. I'm sure me
- 26:06Speaker 5: there's some sort of copyright there, but they do appear
- 26:08Speaker 5: on YouTube, and one day you're not gonna sit down
- 26:09Speaker 5: and we're going to review those for our Patriot, Okay,
- 26:12Speaker 5: because I've actually ever sat down watched them all either.
- 26:14Speaker 5: I've seen maybe League five, and I think there's about
- 26:16Speaker 5: fifty of them. So we'll sit down and we'll review
- 26:18Speaker 5: those one day. Sure, happy to do so because they
- 26:20Speaker 5: look horrific. But you know, you gotta. But that's just
- 26:23Speaker 5: you know, they that's the start of the Simpsons. It's
- 26:25Speaker 5: part of history.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Oh, very much. So, yeah, I mean, yeah, Tracy Ollman's
- 26:29Speaker 3: an interesting kind of phenomenon. Really. I mean, I remember,
- 26:33Speaker 3: I have no memories of her at all. We spent
- 26:35Speaker 3: a bit of time in England when I was growing up,
- 26:37Speaker 3: particularly around the eighties. My sister was living over there.
- 26:39Speaker 3: We would go over and visit her occasionally. And Tracy
- 26:41Speaker 3: Ollmen was very very big in sketch comedy on British TV.
- 26:46Speaker 3: One show in particularly was called Three of a Kind.
- 26:48Speaker 3: It was her, the comedian Lenny Henry and someone else.
- 26:52Speaker 3: But yeah, it was clear that Tracy Olmen was kind
- 26:54Speaker 3: of like the breakout star of that, someone who was
- 26:56Speaker 3: very very versatile, had great charm. You're familiar with Saturday Live,
- 27:02Speaker 3: of course, and Gilda Radner didn't. Yeah, yeah, very much
- 27:05Speaker 3: like an English version of Gilda Radner had sort of
- 27:06Speaker 3: an impish charm, instant likability and also just multi talented.
- 27:11Speaker 3: So and people clearly recognize this. On the other side
- 27:14Speaker 3: of the pond, James or Brooks recognized this and basically
- 27:17Speaker 3: fashioned this show around her on the up and coming
- 27:21Speaker 3: or just recently introduced Fox Network. So and you know,
- 27:24Speaker 3: she was acting alongside the likes of Meryl Streep as well.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I mean, people just recognized, oh, this is someone who's
- 27:29Speaker 3: incredibly talented and not necessarily can do just about anything,
- 27:33Speaker 3: but it's up for it just about anything and adds
- 27:35Speaker 3: something to everything. So and yeah, but I think they realized, oh,
- 27:39Speaker 3: we've got to add things to the Tracy Ormand show.
- 27:41Speaker 3: It's you know, she'll do her thing, She'll do her
- 27:44Speaker 3: thing with her cast. Dan See was a member of
- 27:45Speaker 3: the cast, Julie and Julie Canner. Yeah. Yeah, so Brooks
- 27:50Speaker 3: has clearly got his sort of talent pool. But they're like, oh,
- 27:52Speaker 3: we need things to break it up a little bit.
- 27:54Speaker 3: And that's where the Simpson shorts come in, which was
- 27:58Speaker 3: a pretty out there concept really when you think about it. Well, yeah,
- 28:01Speaker 3: but it seemed like Fox was kind of throwing everything
- 28:03Speaker 3: at the wall. See what works. Yeah, I mean ABC,
- 28:06Speaker 3: NBC and CBS. The three existing networks had their own
- 28:10Speaker 3: voices and their own tones of the kind of shows
- 28:12Speaker 3: that they made, but they were all doing pretty much
- 28:14Speaker 3: their own thing. And I think Fox recognized we're gonna
- 28:16Speaker 3: have to shake things up a little bit and try
- 28:18Speaker 3: a few different things and see what works. Not everything did,
- 28:21Speaker 3: but a lot of things did. And toilet humor no
- 28:24Speaker 3: big what we're still talking about it this day. Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Yeah, one show that I have to revisit because I
- 28:33Speaker 5: was not allowed to watch it as a kid.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Married with children.
- 28:35Speaker 5: When I saw it as a teenager, I went, this
- 28:37Speaker 5: is fun. But I kind of see it as almost
- 28:39Speaker 5: like the live action version of like a Family Guy,
- 28:42Speaker 5: where I can probably enjoy it in small dat. I
- 28:44Speaker 5: don't think you can binge married with children.
- 28:46Speaker 3: No, I don't think so.
- 28:47Speaker 5: It seems like you're weekly dose of just crude toilet
- 28:50Speaker 5: jokes from the crowd, just your dose of but also
- 28:54Speaker 5: put together with some skill with fantastic with very talented
- 28:59Speaker 5: people like Caesh.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Absolutely. Yeah. So.
- 29:02Speaker 5: According to Ken Eston, the co creator of the Tracy
- 29:04Speaker 5: Ullman Show, Tracy was not fond of any of the
- 29:07Speaker 5: bumpers because of the Simpson shots because she didn't think
- 29:10Speaker 5: that there were any quality or the quality for her show.
- 29:12Speaker 5: They think why they looked they didn't look good enough
- 29:15Speaker 5: in nineteen ninety one. I'm assuming after this episode aired,
- 29:17Speaker 5: because they would have recorded this in nineteen nineteen, would
- 29:20Speaker 5: air in March of ninety one. But in ninety one,
- 29:22Speaker 5: she filed a lawsuit against twentieth Century Fox, claiming that
- 29:25Speaker 5: she was owed some of the profits from Simpsons merchandise,
- 29:28Speaker 5: which her lawyers valued at about two point five million dollars,
- 29:31Speaker 5: which inflation is abound five point seven million today.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Tiny sum.
- 29:36Speaker 5: Yeah, quite a bit of money. Yeah, I'm like, look,
- 29:38Speaker 5: that's a lot. But in the grand scheme of things,
- 29:41Speaker 5: the money that Simpsons would have been making twentieth Century Fox,
- 29:44Speaker 5: I don't think it was that much money.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Oh no, I think it's kind of chump change.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it sounds like a lot. But her case was
- 29:49Speaker 5: based on the fact that she did actually sign a
- 29:51Speaker 5: contract reportedly mere hours before she recorded the first episode
- 29:55Speaker 5: of The Tracy Ulman Show that entitled her to five
- 29:58Speaker 5: to ten percent of the net receipts of the merchandising
- 30:00Speaker 5: and other profits from products or programs based on spin
- 30:04Speaker 5: off characters, including animated characters, even if those characters were
- 30:08Speaker 5: originated by others. So you read that contract and to go, well,
- 30:14Speaker 5: how does she not win? She is one entitled to
- 30:17Speaker 5: some money?
- 30:18Speaker 3: Right?
- 30:18Speaker 5: How does this not work? And my only explanation could
- 30:21Speaker 5: be that maybe Fox just could have for better lawyers.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Quite possibly, Yeah, I mean, you do have Murdoch money
- 30:26Speaker 3: behind you, and they tend to have their sharks.
- 30:29Speaker 5: So yeah, because if I had a contract and it
- 30:33Speaker 5: said those words, I would go, I think I'm in
- 30:35Speaker 5: the right here.
- 30:36Speaker 3: How could I not get money here?
- 30:38Speaker 5: I think even if she doesn't get five million, she's
- 30:41Speaker 5: entitled to something, you would think.
- 30:43Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean the Simpsons became the Simpsons because
- 30:47Speaker 3: of the Simpsons. Not necessary, I mean, but it had
- 30:50Speaker 3: its launch pad on the Tracy Ullman Show.
- 30:53Speaker 5: And she wasn't the only person that decided that, but
- 30:55Speaker 5: she I'm pretty sure in her position she could have
- 30:57Speaker 5: gone no, I would haven't bumpers if she wanted to,
- 31:01Speaker 5: really wanted to put her foot down because it's her
- 31:03Speaker 5: name on the shee. You can't have the Tracy Aulber
- 31:05Speaker 5: Show without Tracy Oulmen correct. Yeah, So I think she
- 31:07Speaker 5: deserved something and they invited you for this for this episode,
- 31:11Speaker 5: and it's a show that the lawsuit happened and she
- 31:13Speaker 5: lost and whatnot, Because it would have been nice to
- 31:15Speaker 5: get more miss win firstess. And I think the would
- 31:17Speaker 5: have been a fun dynamic there, even though it would
- 31:19Speaker 5: have kind of felt kind of cliche. But The Simpsons
- 31:21Speaker 5: is just based on stereotypes and cliches.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Isn't it.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, good missus Degle.
- 31:26Speaker 3: That could have worked. Oh yeah, just the snooty person
- 31:29Speaker 3: in the neighborhood. I mean, I'm sure the Simpsons has that,
- 31:33Speaker 3: but yeah, like I love.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Joy is kind of snooty, but she's not this kind
- 31:36Speaker 5: of neighbor missus Degal snoody.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you need someone who's just an upper echelone of
- 31:41Speaker 3: wealth and just wants to lord it over you. Thinks
- 31:44Speaker 3: it makes them a better person as the result.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Stop riding your skateboard on the sidewalk, Yes, and get
- 31:48Speaker 5: off my property kind of thing.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Very much. I get off my lown kind of person. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 3: let's not too bad for Tracy Uelman. According to Wikipedia,
- 31:54Speaker 3: which as we know, never lies, Tracy woman, Tracy Oulman
- 31:57Speaker 3: has a net worth of something like eighty million pound. Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 3: she's Okay, she's just all right, she's doing okay for herself. Yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 3: And I did read some things where it says she's
- 32:07Speaker 3: not bitter anymore, and I thought, oh, that's good for her.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Then you told me that, and I went, oh, into
- 32:10Speaker 3: what if I had that amount of money, I would
- 32:13Speaker 3: not be bitter, I'd be sweet.
- 32:16Speaker 5: And I was watching some special study recently and it
- 32:19Speaker 5: was one where she was doing like a flashback to
- 32:21Speaker 5: the Tracy Ulman Show. And you've got the Tracy or
- 32:23Speaker 5: you have the Tracy Ulman Show wiki page open there.
- 32:25Speaker 5: I'm a huge fan of the logo. Just scroll down,
- 32:29Speaker 5: see if you can see it. Oh yeah, Tracy yemen
- 32:31Speaker 5: Show logo. It just epitomizes nineteen late nine eighties, early
- 32:34Speaker 5: nineteen nineties.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that logo.
- 32:36Speaker 5: It's just an awesome logo.
- 32:37Speaker 3: It's really good. Folks. If you want like thirty seconds
- 32:42Speaker 3: of just boost, go to YouTube look up opening credits
- 32:45Speaker 3: of Tracy Yulman Show. Because okay, it's got a great
- 32:48Speaker 3: theme song as well, has it really? Oh yeah, put
- 32:51Speaker 3: it on now. Yeah, I'll put it on right now.
- 32:54Speaker 3: But again very late and late eighties energy. But it
- 32:57Speaker 3: also feels like the pro to a Network's like, we're here,
- 33:01Speaker 3: pay attention to us, but not in a in a
- 33:04Speaker 3: kind of they're kind of way. It's more like, hey,
- 33:06Speaker 3: this is funky and fun That's what the Simpsons was.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Funky fresh.
- 33:09Speaker 5: Yeah, funky, and the Simpsons was certainly fresh, particularly with
- 33:12Speaker 5: the colors and whatnot, which is why Matt made them yellow.
- 33:14Speaker 5: So when you're flicking through, well that's different. Yeah, that's
- 33:17Speaker 5: you're right, yes, But hers Emily Winthrop, I thought the
- 33:22Speaker 5: perfect villain this episode needed, and a great villain.
- 33:25Speaker 3: I don't think it's.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Talked about enough on The Simpsons because she is so unlikable.
- 33:29Speaker 3: She's all cold, results driven process. Yeah, and reminded me
- 33:35Speaker 3: of the Sleep Netty. She was very just to the
- 33:37Speaker 3: point matter of fact that I went, how are you?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Are you a robot? That person will probably say my
- 33:43Speaker 3: results speak for themselves exactly right, and may were justify
- 33:47Speaker 3: by saying I've got a lot of parents who were
- 33:49Speaker 3: sleeping through the night. You know because of this, I've
- 33:52Speaker 3: probably saved a lot of marriages. Yeah, and you know, uh,
- 33:57Speaker 3: this Emily character probably feels the same way. It's like,
- 34:00Speaker 3: you're going to have a bit of discomfort here, You're
- 34:01Speaker 3: going to have some hurt feelings or whatever, but your
- 34:04Speaker 3: dog is going to behave and you.
- 34:06Speaker 5: As soon as he said that.
- 34:07Speaker 3: You and everyone are going to be happier as a result.
- 34:09Speaker 5: As soon as you said that, I just thought, I
- 34:10Speaker 5: got hurt feelings whatever, some of those hurt feelings that
- 34:16Speaker 5: doesn't comes straight right into my head every time. Do
- 34:19Speaker 5: you have those moments where someone says a line and
- 34:21Speaker 5: you instantly think of like a film quote or a
- 34:23Speaker 5: song or something.
- 34:25Speaker 3: The thing that always strikes me when I allude to
- 34:28Speaker 3: hurt feelings, it's a terrific Robert Denara actually movie called Ronan.
- 34:32Speaker 3: I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but
- 34:33Speaker 3: I don't know of it. Yeah. Yeah, he's part of
- 34:38Speaker 3: this criminal team that's pulling a heist. The one of
- 34:42Speaker 3: the other members of the team says, oh, did you
- 34:44Speaker 3: ever kill anybody? And DeNiro says, no, I hurt somebody's
- 34:46Speaker 3: feelings once in twenty twenty five. That makes him history's
- 34:49Speaker 3: greatest monster, that he's hurting someone's feelings. But it's a
- 34:54Speaker 3: line that I was like, it's just a great badass.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Lind was like, that's somebody's feelings once.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Yeah, for me, sometimes Nicolall say what do you think
- 35:03Speaker 5: about that? And I always go, now you know how?
- 35:09Speaker 5: But yeah, Emily fantastic here and her delivery Tracey's of
- 35:14Speaker 5: pull the bloody chain boy that haunts nineties kids, because
- 35:18Speaker 5: watching that as a kid, you felt so bad, not
- 35:22Speaker 5: just for the dog, but for Bart, because Bart was
- 35:24Speaker 5: a child in a situation he had to follow instructions.
- 35:28Speaker 5: He didn't want to be hurting his dogs. As soon
- 35:29Speaker 5: as he chokes him, he apologizing you just you feel
- 35:32Speaker 5: so sad.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Sanders will help her, going, Wait a minute, why is
- 35:37Speaker 3: why is my own Why is my friend hurting me? Yeah?
- 35:40Speaker 3: Why is my friend hurting me?
- 35:41Speaker 5: Because he doesn't get it. I'm gonna say he's not
- 35:43Speaker 5: being naughty. He just doesn't understand why he's a dog.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yes, he is a dog. He is a dog indeed.
- 35:50Speaker 5: But yeah, and just yeah, I thought missus midfas we
- 35:52Speaker 5: said we would be a great cater, but she's just
- 35:53Speaker 5: so despicable who seemed to thrive on the misery. But
- 35:56Speaker 5: as we're saying, she is results driven and she is
- 36:00Speaker 5: successful for a reason.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm sure You've had other characters in
- 36:05Speaker 3: the Simpsons or in animated shows, all shows in general,
- 36:08Speaker 3: who they're really stealing steer into the heel turn with
- 36:12Speaker 3: this kind of thing. They'll be someone who's like, you
- 36:15Speaker 3: know what, I'm training this animal to be obedient, but
- 36:17Speaker 3: I'm also really enjoying inflicting pain or inflicting discipline on them.
- 36:22Speaker 3: There's no miniacal laugh or anything. No, no, no, she's
- 36:24Speaker 3: just like, you know, cold clinical British. Donat does this
- 36:31Speaker 3: remager anyone apparently quite inspired by she was a TV
- 36:39Speaker 3: trainer so much, but a woman named Barbara Woodhouse.
- 36:41Speaker 5: And also apparently the mannerisms of Margaret Thatcher.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Oh my god, Oh yeah, I can see a bit
- 36:45Speaker 3: of Maggie in there as well. But Barbara Woodhouse had
- 36:48Speaker 3: a catchphrase, walkers when you were taking Yeah, I can
- 36:52Speaker 3: imagine heavily saying that. Yeah. She became a bit of
- 36:54Speaker 3: a cult figure because of that. You know, when it
- 36:57Speaker 3: was ready to take the dog for a walk, walkers.
- 36:59Speaker 3: You're people of a certain generation who, whenever they're taking
- 37:02Speaker 3: out the dog for a walk, will say that. It
- 37:04Speaker 3: was very ingrained into the end of the collective consciousness.
- 37:07Speaker 5: Although I was kind of confused at the end when
- 37:10Speaker 5: he successfully does it and she says, son of a bitch,
- 37:13Speaker 5: I want to talk about it for a couple of reasons.
- 37:14Speaker 5: The first reason being why she disappointed that he's successful.
- 37:18Speaker 3: It was like she was She's not, She's not at all. Well,
- 37:22Speaker 3: first of all, is the obvious thing about you know,
- 37:24Speaker 3: a dog is a son of a bitch? Obviously, Yes,
- 37:27Speaker 3: But how many times in how many sort of action
- 37:30Speaker 3: movies or any movies have you had someone sort of
- 37:33Speaker 3: happily calls him son of a bitch?
- 37:36Speaker 5: See, I've always taken it the complete opposite way, is
- 37:39Speaker 5: it to say, well, you son of a bitch?
- 37:41Speaker 2: No?
- 37:42Speaker 3: No, Often there's a bit of sort of grudging like
- 37:44Speaker 3: it's like, oh, you're magnificent bastard. I mean, now I
- 37:47Speaker 3: know what you're saying completely. Yeah, I've never taken it
- 37:50Speaker 3: in that way because I've always disliked her. I just
- 37:52Speaker 3: assumed the worst. Yeah, but it strikes me as Yeah,
- 37:57Speaker 3: you'll often hear it's like or say, someone's got one
- 38:00Speaker 3: over on you, but they've done it in such a
- 38:03Speaker 3: smart way that you're kind of like, sort of a bitch.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's a Dutch and Dylan don't hate each other.
- 38:10Speaker 3: They're just kind of like bros who are also kind
- 38:12Speaker 3: of rivals.
- 38:13Speaker 5: Well, it's like in the Jordan documentary Hum and Larry Bird.
- 38:16Speaker 5: So when someone's like like I hate you or something, Yeah,
- 38:22Speaker 5: oh you you've pulled off.
- 38:24Speaker 3: This magnificent coln. You've taken a bunch of money that, yeah,
- 38:27Speaker 3: I can probably afford to lose. But still I don't
- 38:29Speaker 3: like losing. Still I go to a Mary Effort son
- 38:32Speaker 3: of a Bitch? Yeah, okay, what changes? That changes the
- 38:35Speaker 3: tone at the end. They've always just been confused, why
- 38:37Speaker 3: does she Why was she disappointed? But no, no, it's
- 38:41Speaker 3: she's amazing. But it's a little bit of a rud
- 38:44Speaker 3: pull as well as like, oh you think she's disappointed?
- 38:46Speaker 3: But yeah, But like many great jokes, works on multiple levels,
- 38:50Speaker 3: gives these guys a bit of an escape patch to say,
- 38:52Speaker 3: son of a bitch on an animated family comedy.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Which that's the other aspect of what to talk about.
- 38:55Speaker 3: I remember this.
- 38:56Speaker 5: I think it's the first time we hear the word
- 38:58Speaker 5: bitch because I think where's the out splash more episode?
- 39:01Speaker 5: Because he because.
- 39:01Speaker 3: When Butt's going down after this, isn't it? Well?
- 39:04Speaker 5: Season two is because when Butt's going maybe it's before
- 39:07Speaker 5: this thing. Because when Marge paints mister Burns because it's
- 39:11Speaker 5: when he's going down to Slagh says bitch and oh,
- 39:13Speaker 5: but I think son of a bitch is it comes
- 39:16Speaker 5: across harsh. Oh that's more of a bitch and is
- 39:18Speaker 5: always like, oh, he's just a kid being a kid.
- 39:19Speaker 5: But son of a bitch is like, oh, some of a.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Bitch is designed primarily is an insult the bitch.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Like I think most nineties kids have a memory of
- 39:29Speaker 5: at least one of the adults in their life being
- 39:31Speaker 5: bothered by hearing this woman say son of a bitch,
- 39:33Speaker 5: because you just don't expect to hear it on the Simpsons. Well, yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 5: but then that's when you pull the bar and you say,
- 39:37Speaker 5: but a bitch is female dog mom, So is that
- 39:41Speaker 5: is that technically there out? Then I guess that's their out,
- 39:43Speaker 5: that's their escape patch. Yeah, she's a dog trainer and
- 39:45Speaker 5: she's using a term about dog because bitch is one
- 39:48Speaker 5: of those words where it's only a curse word depending
- 39:51Speaker 5: on how it's used.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely, Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 5: So the kids are watching sound Lock Kids at the moment,
- 39:55Speaker 5: and he says bitch a couple of times, and like
- 39:57Speaker 5: he said, they all call f words. He's net work right,
- 40:01Speaker 5: And he also they say shit a couple of times,
- 40:03Speaker 5: and Elliot every time that's look at me, hey to say,
- 40:06Speaker 5: and he's like, let's listen to it. It's almost like
- 40:08Speaker 5: it's a it's okay. It's when you get to high
- 40:11Speaker 5: school and your teacher uses the word shit or something
- 40:13Speaker 5: and you go, oh.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Oh, we can use these but growing up, no, that's
- 40:20Speaker 3: just some insecure teacher. How do I relate? How do
- 40:22Speaker 3: I be cool kids? How do I reach these kids?
- 40:26Speaker 3: They drop a sword. I've spoken many times about watching
- 40:29Speaker 3: movies with Bob and Margaret, and I'm just them being
- 40:33Speaker 3: we don't care his kids, Let's just fill this kid's
- 40:37Speaker 3: brain with whatever. But you know, it's like when you're
- 40:40Speaker 3: watching a movie with your parents and all of a sudden,
- 40:42Speaker 3: like an unexpected sex scene comes on or something like, oh,
- 40:46Speaker 3: this is unpleasant for everybody. There was a Booby's look.
- 40:51Speaker 3: I remember one time though, I was I'm pretty sure
- 40:53Speaker 3: Bob and Margaret were not paying attention, but I was
- 40:55Speaker 3: watching Commando. Okay, that's the anold schwartzon in the movie.
- 40:58Speaker 3: And yeah, I don't think we were so much upset
- 41:00Speaker 3: by the violence. But there's a bit where one of
- 41:03Speaker 3: the henchmen is trying to come on to the female
- 41:05Speaker 3: lead and she's not having any of it, and he
- 41:08Speaker 3: sort of looks at her and said, forgive the foul
- 41:10Speaker 3: language here folks writing a movie. He looks and said,
- 41:13Speaker 3: you fucking whore, and then just sort of walks off.
- 41:15Speaker 3: And I was kind of like, oh, my ears a
- 41:17Speaker 3: bread because I'm the one who rented this and said
- 41:21Speaker 3: watch command. And you know, meanwhile they're dropping some pretty
- 41:25Speaker 3: harsh turns. And here Dad didn't look up from the
- 41:28Speaker 3: racing guide. Mom's like witch down, got a wine. Mum's
- 41:35Speaker 3: like she's pulling the bobby and saying I had no son.
- 41:38Speaker 3: But yeah, that's that can be a little of pudding
- 41:42Speaker 3: when you have that occasion when you when do you
- 41:45Speaker 3: watch it with your parents in the room? Yeah? Yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 3: absolutely yeah.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Now we mentioned earlier, but the Lisa and Marge story,
- 41:52Speaker 5: I just think it was al sort just a nice
- 41:53Speaker 5: bonding story for them too as well. Like we had,
- 41:55Speaker 5: the quill was a well used prop in this story
- 41:57Speaker 5: for both stories, as we mentioned, But I just see
- 42:00Speaker 5: it was nice seeing Lisa and Marge bond over being
- 42:03Speaker 5: female Simpsons bvier. I guess yeah, because we don't really
- 42:07Speaker 5: see Marge's BVS side, it's always March Simpson, so seeing
- 42:11Speaker 5: her get to celebrate her family's history I thought was nice.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah. And also that thing, I mean, you have
- 42:18Speaker 3: it every once in a while when someone just pulls,
- 42:20Speaker 3: like a a cool thing that shows their talented or
- 42:24Speaker 3: skilled in an area. I mean for March's to nonchalantly
- 42:27Speaker 3: just flip up the needle threaded in mid air, it's
- 42:32Speaker 3: kind of like, oh, you know, I'm good at this.
- 42:34Speaker 3: I'm good at this. Yeah. It's an instant kind.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Of believe me sewing and being able to so it
- 42:40Speaker 5: is a talent that I wish I could have made.
- 42:42Speaker 5: Oh yeah, absolutely, i'snbelievable. Yeah yeah, look at Pi's a
- 42:45Speaker 5: button off my button for one Nichols, I'll fix the foy.
- 42:47Speaker 5: I'm like, that's God's work.
- 42:49Speaker 3: I should be able to do. Yeah. Oh yeah. There
- 42:51Speaker 3: are so many things that I would tell young guy
- 42:55Speaker 3: if I could turn back the clock, say four decades,
- 42:58Speaker 3: go back and say fifteen year old guy. First of all,
- 43:01Speaker 3: by applestock. But yeah, also learn how to sew. It's
- 43:05Speaker 3: not that hard. Just put in the just put in
- 43:07Speaker 3: the hours, you know, while you're watching TV, get a
- 43:10Speaker 3: piece of cloth, get a needle and thread and just
- 43:12Speaker 3: learn how to do it. Learn how to do it,
- 43:14Speaker 3: learn how to do it, get some muscle memory. But yeah,
- 43:16Speaker 3: something like that. Absolutely. But yeah, it's just a nice
- 43:18Speaker 3: real shorthand gesture of because Lisa, you know, who was
- 43:22Speaker 3: very sort of book smart and progressive in a lot
- 43:25Speaker 3: of ways. She might think she doesn't do it in
- 43:27Speaker 3: this episode, but you might think, oh, well, I've got
- 43:30Speaker 3: a quil so this can seem kind of lame themard
- 43:33Speaker 3: to be able to do it with flair and with
- 43:35Speaker 3: style that makes you go, oh, okay, well, no, this
- 43:37Speaker 3: is something we're paying attention to, and the person who
- 43:39Speaker 3: does it is someone worth respecting. Yeah, I like the
- 43:42Speaker 3: whole subplot or narrative thread, so to speak of the
- 43:46Speaker 3: whole quilt thing.
- 43:47Speaker 5: I mean the play Yeah, thanks man, it was gonna
- 43:53Speaker 5: be a drive.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I'm like knowledge that. Yeah, the role that it played
- 43:58Speaker 3: absolutely Yeah. But the way it brought these two people
- 44:03Speaker 3: together the inside, it gave you into the into the
- 44:06Speaker 3: movie family. I mean, not a whole lot, but you know,
- 44:09Speaker 3: it just adds something to the overall yeah, greaterst scheme
- 44:13Speaker 3: of things. And I don't want to jump on favorite
- 44:16Speaker 3: moments here, but in a few moments we'll get to it. Yeah,
- 44:19Speaker 3: but it certainly culminates in one of my favorite moments
- 44:22Speaker 3: in the episode, and maybe, look, I'll be hard press
- 44:25Speaker 3: to say one of my favorites of the series, but
- 44:28Speaker 3: I think it's a really really good lesson and summed
- 44:32Speaker 3: up in a really interesting.
- 44:33Speaker 5: Ending to I wanted to touch on it anyway, so
- 44:36Speaker 5: I wanted to discuss It's almost like a a strength
- 44:38Speaker 5: through adversity ending, isn't it.
- 44:41Speaker 3: It's making lemons out of lemonade? Yeah? Sorry, yeah, elements walker,
- 44:46Speaker 3: excuse me flip that reverse? Yes?
- 44:49Speaker 2: So or.

- 45:23Speaker 5: was going to say that, you know, you can't get
- 45:26Speaker 5: the quilt back. Some things you can't fix, but we
- 45:29Speaker 5: can sit here and we can mope about it, or
- 45:31Speaker 5: we can power through. And she starts her own quilt.
- 45:34Speaker 5: It would have maybe been nice for her to offer
- 45:36Speaker 5: Marshal chance to add a patch to it as well.
- 45:38Speaker 5: They both sort of start the quilt together.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Would have been and look that may well happen. It
- 45:43Speaker 3: could have been happening five minutes after the end of
- 45:45Speaker 3: this episode. Yeah, but honestly, this feels like the kind
- 45:48Speaker 3: of thing you'd put as your I don't know if
- 45:50Speaker 3: we'd really do it in Australia, but so they certainly
- 45:52Speaker 3: do in the States with ther high school yearbook and
- 45:54Speaker 3: you put a quote in under your photo.
- 45:56Speaker 5: Yeah, for Lisa, they do in the States because Millhouse
- 45:58Speaker 5: wrights see you in the car. Well, of course, yeah,
- 46:00Speaker 5: well that's why I say you're doing in Australia. Sorry, apologize,
- 46:02Speaker 5: we do. Well, we did it when I was in
- 46:03Speaker 5: high school.
- 46:04Speaker 3: We did do it.
- 46:05Speaker 5: It was they called their end of year flotsam. It
- 46:07Speaker 5: was called it caught a flotsam. What the hell Australia's
- 46:09Speaker 5: weird word sometimes anyway.
- 46:11Speaker 3: But honestly, what Lisa says. It's one thing to be
- 46:14Speaker 3: a link in the chain, it's another to start your own.
- 46:16Speaker 3: That's a great quote, right, that's a great quote, honestly,
- 46:19Speaker 3: words to live by. So if you're a young person
- 46:22Speaker 3: and you listen to the show, take that one on board.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Tell them guys centure.
- 46:25Speaker 5: I've just googled the word flotsam and it says, according
- 46:28Speaker 5: to the Dictionary, the wreckage of a ship or it's
- 46:31Speaker 5: cargo found floating or washed upon the sea. So yeah,
- 46:35Speaker 5: flotsam and jetsam. So why would we call it a flotsam?
- 46:38Speaker 5: We called a flotsam end of your flotsam?
- 46:40Speaker 3: How biz that?
- 46:41Speaker 5: But you're right, though, that quote is something to live by,
- 46:43Speaker 5: and we're touching on it before we hit record. Lisa
- 46:48Speaker 5: can be very annoying at times. Right, she usually has
- 46:51Speaker 5: a good message, but usually the way she communicates said
- 46:53Speaker 5: message comes across as obnoxious and well beyond her years,
- 46:56Speaker 5: to the point where it's like you're a kid trying
- 46:58Speaker 5: to be an adult. This just felt like a child
- 47:01Speaker 5: who was beyond her years. But she still felt like
- 47:02Speaker 5: a kid saying it.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, it felt like she had a lot a
- 47:05Speaker 3: great deal of emotional intelligence as well as you know,
- 47:08Speaker 3: book smarts. Yeah, I think this is the way that
- 47:11Speaker 3: Lisa was initially sort of designed and depicted in the
- 47:14Speaker 3: show as, if not necessarily the moral center of the
- 47:19Speaker 3: Simpson family, then someone who is a bit of a
- 47:21Speaker 3: grounding influence despite being a little girl. The characters and
- 47:25Speaker 3: their best and worst traits have been sort of elevated
- 47:28Speaker 3: and heightened alone the years, you know, to the point
- 47:32Speaker 3: now where we're talking about season twenty and it's kind
- 47:33Speaker 3: of like there's no sort of emotion there really anymore.
- 47:36Speaker 3: It's just's what's funny, there's not really any emotional underpending
- 47:38Speaker 3: to it. It's like home Home is a dumb ass.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Where is he in this? You see? I mean he
- 47:42Speaker 3: does silly, impulsive things like he well, he's oh my god,
- 47:47Speaker 3: those shoes. I've got to have those shoes. We can
- 47:49Speaker 3: mean that we can all relate to that shit. Yeah,
- 47:52Speaker 3: I mean, and he's just not necessarily the brightest thing.
- 47:54Speaker 3: But you know, it's still something that he does.
- 47:57Speaker 5: A bit of a spoiler in my notes for that
- 47:59Speaker 5: particular scene, I think I've got something on the lines of, oh,
- 48:02Speaker 5: this is what you call selfish Homer just buying a
- 48:05Speaker 5: pair of shoes.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Wait to get to season eighteen. H that's right, yeah, yeah,
- 48:12Speaker 3: or Bart's a bratt.
- 48:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but as we said at the end of this episode,
- 48:16Speaker 5: he's a kid. Of course he was going to lose
- 48:18Speaker 5: his best friend, and that particularly as I said, that
- 48:21Speaker 5: moment where he says, I'm going to miss your boy.
- 48:23Speaker 5: I thought we'd be friends forever.
- 48:24Speaker 3: It's like, oh man, yeah, yeah, but yeah in this episode,
- 48:27Speaker 3: and I think in the early seasons of the show,
- 48:30Speaker 3: these are very very relatable people, very relatable characters. With
- 48:34Speaker 3: the dial turned up to maybe about three or four,
- 48:37Speaker 3: it's like, you're a little bit exaggerated, but oh shit,
- 48:41Speaker 3: we've all been there, right, And then you get to
- 48:43Speaker 3: layer episodes. Let's crank that doll. Let's crank that doll.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Let's crank that dial until you know there's no dial anymore.
- 48:48Speaker 3: You're in a spinal tapping the jet buttons. Please go
- 48:50Speaker 3: to eleven. Yes.
- 48:52Speaker 5: I always want to touch on the parodies as well,
- 48:54Speaker 5: So we get an et parody here with the fingers.
- 48:57Speaker 3: We get predator. Yeah. I wasn't. I read someone was like, hey,
- 49:02Speaker 3: they're taking a predator And.
- 49:03Speaker 5: This was Friday in the thirteenth. The music was getting
- 49:05Speaker 5: me thrown it.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like, yeah, but apparently you know when it
- 49:09Speaker 3: switches to dog vision or animal vision, what do you
- 49:11Speaker 3: hear this sort of yeah, which is and whenever you
- 49:15Speaker 3: get predator vision in the Predator movies, it just wasn't
- 49:18Speaker 3: was that fat? Yeah, it wasn't really that sidebar. I
- 49:21Speaker 3: don't know if we're allowed to do this on them,
- 49:23Speaker 3: the new and new and improved Full Finger dis Gun.
- 49:26Speaker 3: There was a trailer at this morning. Apparently there are
- 49:28Speaker 3: two new Predator movies coming out this year. Well, okay,
- 49:30Speaker 3: the last one was Prayed, wasn't it Yeah, which I enjoyed. Yeah,
- 49:33Speaker 3: and these two a review of Prey on our Patreon Yeah, yeah,
- 49:37Speaker 3: these two new ones are directed by the same guy
- 49:38Speaker 3: I did Pray. There's one coming out called Predator Badlands.
- 49:41Speaker 3: But this one is called Predator Killer of Killers, and
- 49:43Speaker 3: it's anime and as bloody as hell. The trailers on
- 49:45Speaker 3: YouTube now check it out. Check that out.
- 49:48Speaker 5: All right, So before we get into our review, there's
- 49:50Speaker 5: a couple of things I want to touch on. Assassins
- 49:52Speaker 5: right now. Assassins to me, everyone remembers the Assassins, they
- 49:57Speaker 5: can't quite remember which episode it's from. They just remember
- 49:59Speaker 5: that they get eaten by the dogs. So maybe you
- 50:00Speaker 5: can put two and two together. But the assassins, for
- 50:02Speaker 5: some reason, they don't play a huge role in the episode.
- 50:05Speaker 5: They gone once they get eaten. It's like, oh, for
- 50:09Speaker 5: some reason, in my mind, they were the reason he
- 50:11Speaker 5: gets home once to get rid of him.
- 50:12Speaker 3: But it wasn't.
- 50:12Speaker 5: It was the giant cooking. But so he eats his assassins,
- 50:15Speaker 5: and the assassins is almost like the first nail in
- 50:17Speaker 5: a coffin, right, But they seem so unnecessary, but would
- 50:20Speaker 5: absolutely dominate in twenty twenty five because I see people
- 50:24Speaker 5: just we have no money, but for some reason, young
- 50:27Speaker 5: people still have money to spend on useless shit. And
- 50:30Speaker 5: I think the assassins just seem so unnecessarily useless. When
- 50:33Speaker 5: it comes to shoes all the extras, you think, why
- 50:35Speaker 5: do we need all this stuff? But I'd want to
- 50:37Speaker 5: because it's just I want to be part of the club.
- 50:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and it's also a real yolo thing, that
- 50:40Speaker 3: thing you were talking about. About. You know, no one's
- 50:42Speaker 3: got any money. It's like, well, look, I want to
- 50:45Speaker 3: be able to afford to retire, I might as well
- 50:46Speaker 3: dress well now, yeah, and I might as well go
- 50:48Speaker 3: on holiday. Now.
- 50:49Speaker 5: I was a big fan of the join the Conspiracy
- 50:51Speaker 5: tagline because it just makes you, it's mystique. You're in
- 50:54Speaker 5: with the in crowd. You're in with the in crowds.
- 50:55Speaker 5: You want, oh, you want to be part of the
- 50:57Speaker 5: in crowd? Join the conspiracy, mate?
- 51:00Speaker 3: Sure? Absolutely. Yeah. The kind of shoes that have just
- 51:03Speaker 3: got everything built into them. What is it like a
- 51:05Speaker 3: pedometer and so.
- 51:07Speaker 5: It's it's Valco straps, water pump in the tongue, built
- 51:10Speaker 5: in reflective sidewalls, and a little vanity license plates.
- 51:13Speaker 3: A little short had a pedometer, Maybe it did.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Maybe I missed that one. Yeah, but the little.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Vanity plates. That's hilarious, so good. There's all a lot
- 51:23Speaker 3: bit ned who you know, you tend to think of, like, well,
- 51:26Speaker 3: shouldn't he be giving this money to the church. He's
- 51:28Speaker 3: going to treat himself a little bit as well. It's
- 51:30Speaker 3: like everyone's in on assassin.
- 51:32Speaker 5: Sometimes you have to treat yourself. It's just sometimes I'll
- 51:34Speaker 5: talk about that when we get to that metical. I've
- 51:36Speaker 5: got some notes on that as well. But apparently these
- 51:38Speaker 5: assassins have become a thing of legend in the sneaker
- 51:40Speaker 5: collector world, many comparing the design of them to an
- 51:44Speaker 5: actual pair of sneakers from the early nineties, the Nike
- 51:47Speaker 5: Air Trainer Sports Classic or something. But yeah, the Nike
- 51:50Speaker 5: Airtrainer shoes which were released just prior to this episode.
- 51:53Speaker 5: So maybe they based the design on that.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I was getting a very Nike feel off them.
- 51:57Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not sure if it's around their course
- 52:01Speaker 3: a Jordan time, do you think, well, yeah, that's what
- 52:04Speaker 3: they are. They're Nicare Air Jordan's.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Okay, so they're Jordan's. Yeah, but the maybe not. I'm
- 52:08Speaker 5: not too sure. But all I know is that shoes, man,
- 52:11Speaker 5: they collect the world. It's a big deal. Oh yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 5: if you're in that world.
- 52:15Speaker 3: I was about to say, oh, it's a bit of
- 52:16Speaker 3: a subculture. No, it's a culture and a gentlemine thing. Yeah.
- 52:19Speaker 5: We've got friends that are willing to drop like a
- 52:21Speaker 5: thousand dollars in a pair of shoes and they don't
- 52:22Speaker 5: even open them. They just leave them when they leave
- 52:23Speaker 5: while they open them, they leave them on a shelf
- 52:25Speaker 5: with the tag. And I'm thinking, okay, Wonder Rock and
- 52:28Speaker 5: wonder Stock. Yeah, if you've got the money to do it.
- 52:30Speaker 5: It's almost like a waving your dick around and kind
- 52:32Speaker 5: of thing for me, Like, it's you've got to have
- 52:34Speaker 5: money to be able to collect these things, unless you're
- 52:36Speaker 5: using all of your money to collect these things.
- 52:38Speaker 3: That's true.
- 52:38Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's a very doggy dog words you'd find
- 52:41Speaker 5: like Pokemon. Pokemon cards are a big thing at the moment.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Have you seen all these videos of people trying to
- 52:45Speaker 5: empty at the Pokemon card machines at supermarkets and whatnot.
- 52:48Speaker 3: I have not seen this video. Yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 5: So people are like lining up and they have machines
- 52:52Speaker 5: that they restock at night, and you buy the Pokemon
- 52:55Speaker 5: cards from them. It's almost like a vending machine, right,
- 52:57Speaker 5: And people are going there and dropping you know, five
- 52:59Speaker 5: grand and on nothing but Pokemon cards so that they
- 53:01Speaker 5: can own all the cards. And people are having all
- 53:04Speaker 5: out wars for these cards because they can flip them
- 53:06Speaker 5: and make their money back.
- 53:07Speaker 3: One of the best advertising or marketing slogans that was
- 53:12Speaker 3: ever done is got to catch them all. Oh, unbelievable, unbelievable.
- 53:19Speaker 3: I mean we were talking about Nike and Nike's got
- 53:21Speaker 3: just do it, which I think is a really good slogan.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Nike does some fantasy, but got to catch them all.
- 53:27Speaker 5: That's the mecha mate. It's catchy, but it's also telling
- 53:31Speaker 5: me I've got to catch them all. What have I do?
- 53:34Speaker 3: We want to? We want to, We want a slogan
- 53:36Speaker 3: that's catchy. Can we use the word catch.
- 53:39Speaker 5: But Judy Wright I was talking to her last night.
- 53:43Speaker 5: She does custom shoes.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Say who's Judy right? Judy Right?
- 53:46Speaker 5: She is the owner of sq Customs, an Instagram page.
- 53:50Speaker 5: She has made genuine, screen accurate replicas of assassins and
- 53:55Speaker 5: she's now got them available for pre order and for
- 53:57Speaker 5: the first one hundred people who pre order them, she's
- 53:59Speaker 5: doing for one hundred and twenty five dollars. Moly, so
- 54:03Speaker 5: get in early if you want to be you're going
- 54:05Speaker 5: to be follow her channel and order for one hundred
- 54:06Speaker 5: and twenty five dollars, which is pretty cheap.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Do we use our promo code four finger discount?
- 54:11Speaker 5: No.
- 54:12Speaker 3: I just saw it and I was like, that's cool.
- 54:13Speaker 5: And we're going to be getting her on our community
- 54:15Speaker 5: podcast in the month to talk about them, and she's
- 54:18Speaker 5: gonna be sending us a pair of assassins, so, oh
- 54:19Speaker 5: my god, we're gonna feel special in our assassins for
- 54:21Speaker 5: like one h or Yeah. No, we're either left foot
- 54:25Speaker 5: genuinely one each well they have family played saying Dando
- 54:30Speaker 5: and guard.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Oh that'd be cooldn't it. Judy, do your thing, Do
- 54:34Speaker 3: your thing, Judy. So yeah, Well I'm looking forward to
- 54:35Speaker 3: talking to Judy Man so.
- 54:37Speaker 5: Follow her on Instagram. It's sq Underscore Customs. You can
- 54:40Speaker 5: find a link for that description of this podcast. But
- 54:42Speaker 5: it's now time for favorite moments. My favorite your first.
- 54:48Speaker 3: Moment when we were talking about Sylvia Winfield earlier, not
- 54:54Speaker 3: to Emily win Robert, Sylvia win Field, Homer refers to
- 54:57Speaker 3: as an old battle axe.
- 54:59Speaker 5: That's a great one of my favorite bits that that
- 55:02Speaker 5: Neil Ever did on Conan, Because my wife what a
- 55:06Speaker 5: battle axe?
- 55:08Speaker 3: Not Norm?
- 55:08Speaker 5: So Norm what I think of Neil Norm Norman Donald.
- 55:11Speaker 5: It's like, my wife, what a battle axe? And Conda
- 55:13Speaker 5: just like battle axe?
- 55:15Speaker 4: This his battle axe.
- 55:18Speaker 3: It's just a it's a great insult.
- 55:20Speaker 5: Particularly Yeah, it's like it's not a swear word, but
- 55:23Speaker 5: it's just what a what a battle axe? Look, no
- 55:27Speaker 5: one's called their wife. That's is nineteen fifty two, I
- 55:29Speaker 5: think says it's a great term battle axe.
- 55:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I've just written down Tracy Ormond exclamation point yeah,
- 55:38Speaker 3: what a lady. Yeah, yeah, it just does great work,
- 55:41Speaker 3: just really commits to the bits. I enjoyed her voice
- 55:44Speaker 3: work very very much. I've written out, oh my god,
- 55:46Speaker 3: look at that magazine stand two Dallas, please take me
- 55:53Speaker 3: back to nineteen ninety four. So yeah, just love that.
- 55:55Speaker 3: But also just the follow one from that, when Homer
- 55:59Speaker 3: is taken the team Maga scenes to the to the gun. Now,
- 56:02Speaker 3: this is interesting because you know, okay, you want to
- 56:06Speaker 3: tin scream and tin steam and all that kind of stuff. Therefore,
- 56:10Speaker 3: my daughter, yeah, shere pal as home was leaving. What
- 56:12Speaker 3: does he say? He said, the wise guy wise Guy?
- 56:17Speaker 3: Is this the birth of wise Guy?
- 56:19Speaker 5: Well he's not the wise Guy visually, but it certainly
- 56:22Speaker 5: sounds like his voice sounds like and yeah, sure thing.
- 56:26Speaker 3: So it's not quite the wise Guy boys, but it's close,
- 56:30Speaker 3: and it's the kind of thing that I would say absolutely.
- 56:33Speaker 5: I really liked Lisa calling Homer at work and say
- 56:36Speaker 5: she has the mumps and he says the kissing disease.
- 56:37Speaker 5: A little girls growing up, that was such.
- 56:39Speaker 3: A sweet, lovely everything felt relatable and real, felt grounded
- 56:44Speaker 3: and real. That's the word real was the word. Yeah,
- 56:46Speaker 3: very much. No, I love that. I thought that was
- 56:48Speaker 3: I thought that was fantastic. And Lenny comes in and
- 56:52Speaker 3: takes over. I love the soap that they were watching together.
- 56:57Speaker 3: That yeah stuff talking about that as well.
- 57:00Speaker 5: Yeah, just great memories of being at NaNs on school holidays,
- 57:04Speaker 5: young and the restless.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Well that's that was the great thing about being sick
- 57:07Speaker 3: and being away from school. It's like there's this whole
- 57:10Speaker 3: world of daytime television. Ah well mate, yeah, and it's like, well,
- 57:15Speaker 3: this is in design for me. There's design for grown ups. Yeah,
- 57:18Speaker 3: this is what growns are into. These soap operas and
- 57:20Speaker 3: these game shows, all these like Beauty and the b
- 57:22Speaker 3: shows or it's like, you know, you've got one dude
- 57:25Speaker 3: surrounded by a bunch of what he would call old
- 57:27Speaker 3: battle Is that is that what you women think? Oh
- 57:30Speaker 3: go to hell stand?
- 57:31Speaker 5: Yeah, that kind of business. But that, yeah, that's so cool.
- 57:34Speaker 5: The kids shows and at nine o'clock after that start
- 57:37Speaker 5: to get at three. Nine to three is Nanny's time.
- 57:41Speaker 5: But yeah, just that dreadful guy and saying, well you
- 57:45Speaker 5: trim me like garbage.
- 57:46Speaker 3: That's because you love it. Beabie, I thought you were dead.
- 57:48Speaker 5: I was.
- 57:51Speaker 3: I like Bart saying my dead man, know how often
- 57:55Speaker 3: I get asked that. I think That's what I've got
- 57:58Speaker 3: for favorite moments, and one for me was Lisa's speech
- 58:02Speaker 3: to save Santas Little Helper and ensure that Marge and
- 58:05Speaker 3: Homer give them give him one more chance to finish
- 58:07Speaker 3: his session these classes, Lisa, They're never gonna put the
- 58:11Speaker 3: plug on me. What you may next question? You there
- 58:17Speaker 3: eating the paste?
- 58:18Speaker 5: All right, let's get into some trivia questions. My first
- 58:21Speaker 5: question for you is what time does Marge book in
- 58:24Speaker 5: Lisa to see doctor Hibbert.
- 58:26Speaker 3: It's two pm? Two pm? What don't but says that
- 58:30Speaker 3: Lisa wasted one disease? Please don't waste the mumps? What
- 58:32Speaker 3: disease did she wastes? Chicken pox? Chicken pox? Chicken pox? Yes?
- 58:36Speaker 5: How much does sad As Little Helpers never break colonna?
- 58:41Speaker 3: Eighty nine cent? Yes, according to doctor Hibbert, a swelling
- 58:45Speaker 3: of the what indicse you've got mumps?
- 58:48Speaker 5: I did write it in my notes. It was it
- 58:50Speaker 5: was a swelling of the It wasn't the gums was
- 58:53Speaker 5: It's no.
- 58:54Speaker 3: She's got a discolouration of again. She's got a swell
- 58:57Speaker 3: selling toys, paratoid toys, yes, or parrotids yes, is because
- 59:03Speaker 3: it's spelled paratoys. But I swear to paratids.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Oh.
- 59:07Speaker 3: When I was watching it on Friendly Pod Disney Plus,
- 59:11Speaker 3: they spelled it to paratids.
- 59:12Speaker 5: Oh maybe I just read it wrong. It happens sometimes.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And my final question for you is, according to the
- 59:18Speaker 5: Journal of Canine Obedience, which Emily is reading, what is
- 59:22Speaker 5: the dog of the nineties, it's the air one as well,
- 59:25Speaker 5: just googling what isn't Airdale? Look, oh, it's one of
- 59:28Speaker 5: those dogs I always call like Scottish terriers, bigger versions
- 59:32Speaker 5: of them, right, yes, a small dogs.
- 59:34Speaker 3: That's I know the dog. You know. They look sweet.
- 59:37Speaker 3: They look very nice, don't they They look friendly, kind
- 59:41Speaker 3: of dumb, but friendly, and and airedales all over the
- 59:44Speaker 3: world while we're gone, fuck you man. The thing is
- 59:49Speaker 3: that these dogs have hairy mouths in that right is.
- 59:51Speaker 5: Whenever I see them, particularly the white ones, their hair
- 59:54Speaker 5: in the mouse always fucking filthy. Oh yeah, because they
- 59:56Speaker 5: eat their food gets caught in there. I go, I
- 59:58Speaker 5: just don't want that dog. This looks messy.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: But yeah, this airedale that we're looking out in particularly,
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: it looks like he's grown a mustache. It does indeed, Yeah,
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: well she it looks like someone from Tombstone. That's correct, Yes,
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: a movie we should be covering. We'll get to that
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: one of these days. We'll be done with trivia because
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: it'd give one more question. Why not sure? How many
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Coreris are they? According to Lisa.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Eight and I think this is the first mention of
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: the Corries because it's Bart's friend falls in Love, which
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: I think it's season three where she goes to the
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: Corey Hogh. I think it's that episode. Yes, but Corey
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: was a big thing in the early nineties, Corey Fellman.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Corey Well, there are only really two Coreys who Corey is, Yeah,
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Cory Hay, Corey Felman. Yeah, late eighties, early nineties.
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: His music career mate. It's it's a it's a spectacle.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: I want to give Corey Felman the benefit of the
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: doubt in a lot of ways. But he recently went
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: on was it I don't think it was Mark Maron's podcast,
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: and might have been right on Rosenbaumbs, but he was
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: talking about bumbs.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he was on Gym's recently.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he was talking about Oh yeah, I had the
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape that Leonardo DiCaprio eventually
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: got but I actually had that role. But then Johnny
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Depp said, I'm not walking to Corey Feldman his drug addict,
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: So so he got booted from that. Somehow doubt this.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: I doubt the veracity of your story, Corey Filman. He
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: said he said something else that he was kind of
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: attached to that was some big oh that he auditioned
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: for Titanic as in Leo's as in Leo's maybe just
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: doesn't like Leo. I get the feeling he's kind of
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: looking at Leo going could have been me, should have
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: been me? It's like they could have been me. Yeah,
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: it's like, Corey, we all enjoy your run as a
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: as a child actor. Even as a young adult actor.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: You will find in Licensed Drive and The Lost Boys,
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: in Gremlins and Gremlins and and finally the Final Chapter
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: and The Great Stand by Me. I think once you
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: hit sort of adulthood, it's like a time you get
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: a desk job. Buddy. Anyway, that's it. But the core
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: I think, and that's my two cents.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: And we did have someone who wrote in saying, hey,
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: do you guys to do the my two cents segment
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: which we used to do back in the first few
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: years of the show, people writing in saying somewhere where
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: you've tried to save money, right, So it's called the
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: my two cent segment and the most life, the most despicable,
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: most hilarious ways we should say, hilarious ways to try
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: and save a few cents, right, which for example is
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: would be I'm going to drive to Aldi and then
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: drive to Coles to save twelve cents off my Pepsi
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: Max kind of thing, you know that kind of thing, right,
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: that's a classic my two cent story. I want to
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: bring the segment back, right, So My two Cents is
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: coming back here and Fourthing a Discount. We want you
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: guys to write in with you my two cent stories
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: and we will discuss them on the show. Also mentioning Corey.

- 1:03:05Speaker 5: just a whole community vibe.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: It's great. What it really is is just Dana saying
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: a lot of words that run with Dando, Lando, Brando.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: What else Outstando? That's it?
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: Fando, that's not a word. There's actually there's actually only
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: two words at run with Lando, Right with Dana, Lando
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: and Brando. I think so it's gonna be a short call,
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: but worth every cent, worth every cent, indeed A right

- 1:05:37Speaker 5: so let's get into our review of Bart's Dog gets
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: an f s. Well, but still we'll be revealed for
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: an hour. But our run through we should say, let's
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: call this the run through. So the original air edit
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: was March seventh, nineteen ninety one, And start playing that
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: game again. What do you think We're the top three
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: films at the US box office in the week of
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: March seventh, nineteen ninety one. Ah, this one you could
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: probably get because it was arguably the most successful film
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: of the year from a Acclaim perspective. Well, I think
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: it was released to the year before, though, I know
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: it could have been Visity before. Maybe you're still carried over.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: I'm not too sure.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Sounds of the Lambs was number one. That was nineteen
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: ninety No, no, that's ninety nine one because I was
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: released on Valentine's naw ninety one.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: Yeah, so it was number one for like four straight weeks.
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: So yeah, Side of the Lambs. Number two was The Doors,
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: which we discussed recently on the movie Guy with Maltin
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: and Davis Kimo.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Tragically lost to his life. Rest in peace. Voal Kilma
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: and Sleeping with the Enemy was number three, starring Julia Robertson. Yeah,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: I've never seen it. I've never heard of it. Have
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: you never heard of it? It's all right, right, it's
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: kind of like that you can put on the situbraina
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: for a while a little bit. Yeah, it's like the
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: Julia Robarts version of the soap that they catch in
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: this episode, because yeah, it's basically Julia Robins married a
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: rich dude. He turned out to be pricked. She made
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: an escape and but guess what he followed her? What
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: a prick?
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: Okay, cool, Well, I may or may not check it out.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: It's it's fine, yes, but this episode was written by
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: John Viddi, directed by Jim ridd And, who both appear
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: in the audio commentary with Matt Groening and l Gene
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: the chalkboard gig I Will Not Sell School Property, which
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: is a re used short gag from but gets Hit
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: by a Car, which we reviewed a couple of years
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: ago with our man who wrote the original draft of
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: the New Avengers film, which I believe has now been
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: changed because Kang is no longer in that film.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: That's right, Jeff, Yeah a man, Jeff, yeah yeah. Share
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: to Jeff.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: And cash gag the family sits on the couch with Sat,
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: a little helper and a slawball too, which I think
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: was a pretty fitting cash gag.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Very apt.
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: Yes, So the episode kicks off and I'm just looking
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: at my notes from the audio commentary. We've got to
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: mention Frank Welker. Frank Welker absolute icon in the voice
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: acting world. He is the voice of Megatron, He's the
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: voice of Fred from Scooby Doo visional voice of Fred,
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: but he basically does any animal voices animal animated animals.
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: As Frank Welker, the guy we've tried to get him
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: on Chincoming's podcast. It's never going to happen. He's just
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: he's very he likes to keep to himself, very private,
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: which is more power to him. He swats wide to ask.
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: I guess you could say. But he does sound as
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: a little helper and snowball to the animal sounds in
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: this episode, and I thought, he it's amazing. I was
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: saying the commentary that you say to a dog, and
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: all of a sudden he's becomes a dog. And it's
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: to have that kind of talent must be unbelievable.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, And yeah, it may sound like an odd
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: thing to specialize in, or you know, oh, how much
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: can this guy actually bring to the table. He's just going, actually,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: he's not doing.
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: My hand like a piece of chicken. Do's a shout
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: out to our review of Cassabita.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Indeed it is. I'm going down to South Park check
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: that one out. But I don't think you get the
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: connection that you have with Sanders little helper, with the
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: particular in this episode, without what he brings to the table.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: I think I think it adds something.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: Yeah, especially the sound of the choke chain like that
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: sounded like a genuine dog being choked. Absolutely, yeah, good stuff.
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: But the episode kicks off early morning paper boys delivering
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: in the morning paper. No, I had a paper on
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: when I was younger.
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: Did you have a paper on? I think I may
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: have briefly sort of walked around the neighborhood dropping off
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: what do you call them broches? Yeah, for the supermarkets
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: and the like. Okay, now I never had an actual
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: paper route.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Whenever I visit my parents, I drive around and I
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: always just get flashbacks. I'm like, oh, it's rosted to
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: live all the papers here.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: I got paid.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: They pay you nothing. I think I can pay the
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: maybe like fourteen dollars to live hundreds of papers. It's
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: just it's slave flavor, mate.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: It really is. It's still got any jabs.
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: But I really love this, and I've got here one
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: notes any episode that begins at sunrise with the Simpsons
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: house exterior with that music. Of course, it's music in
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: the morning. It just always makes me smile. I really
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: really like it. But the dog here, Hope he picks
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: up the newspaper, his back cracks, his knees cracking, and
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: I feel you, buddy, it said a little help, but
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: grabs the paper and ruins the sports section. But now
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: it's breakfast time and Homer's paper has a giant hole
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: in it. He can only sports section a very nineties thing.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: We would never have this issue anymore because who buys
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: a newspaper anymore?
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: Tell me about it. Yeah, but I think it also
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: indicates that there's an old thing about the dog brings
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: in the paper for you. I don't think I've ever
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: seen this happen, nah, but I think it indicates, oh,
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: this dog means well, you know, he's like, oh, I'm
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: here to help, I'm bringing the paper for you. No,
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: no much, I don't want you to do it. Yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Yeah, So the sounds little helper here is eyeing off
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: homeless food. And this is the first point of view
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: shot that we gap, And I think it's just good
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: establishing to us the viewer that he's just he's hearing gibberish.
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: As owners of dogs and cats, we speak to them
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: and we think they understand this, but no, they are
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: just trying to work out, well that gibberish means this.
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't know what we're saying. Oh yeah, they
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: don't understand the actual words of that. It really is
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: more about the tone or the volume in which you're
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: saying it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: Yeah, and this, this point of view shot just justifies
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: why he struggles to follow Waters. He's not doing it
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: by choice, he just doesn't get it. You might as
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: well be speaking French to him.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: So Margin goes to get Lisa ready for school.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: She's clearly unwell.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: And I was saying in the commentary, they're thinking, how
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: do we draw mumps, and like all we could think
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: of was the cheeks, And I'm like, no, it worked,
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: it does.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, well, the minute that you see a
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: little bit the bolts like, oh yeah, that's mumps. I
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: went to school with a kid who had like the
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: worst case of the mumps. He is honestly bulging out.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: His nickname became Monp for the next two years. Really,
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: oh yeah, he just looked absolutely shocking.
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: I've never seen anyone with mumps. I don't think I
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: had it when I was a kid. Is okay, maybe
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: I did. Nikola gets in her glans sort of flat
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: up sometimes and her neck sort of sticks out a
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: little bit. But yeah, I know, just yeah, that's a
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: saying the commentary they just just give a bigger cheeks,
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: that'll do. And Homer is calling out saying, man, your
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: Doug is hungry, I like much, Well, then feed him,
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: then do it?
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: You know what do you want me from me?
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: But unfortunately he's left his play at attended and the
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: dog has eaten his food. Annoying dogs should be on
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: the table eating the food.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: I do get that.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: I mean there weren't my street. That was a well,
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: well what do you expect? But still a dog should
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: be still fit off.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: The p oh no, no, no, no, I mean yeah,
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: when that kind of thing happens. And I mean I've had,
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: as I mentioned so many times, basically will jump up
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: on the counter. It's like, let this alone for one minute.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: I turned my back.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: My one sagon Jack never stole food. Well, very lucky
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: in that regard. Yeah, I had my previous dog, though
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: you left anything out gone.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: Pardon me was like, well I should have known better,
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: And pardon me is like I shouldn't have to know better.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: My name Marlene once had a dog, Molly, Miss Molly
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: and Michael Darren took over and once my name passed
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: and looked after her until she was until she passed away.
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: She once she was a shocker, but she was a rescue.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: My name rescued her from someone. It was like a
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: puppy farm, and she was just constantly just because she
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: was like the mother in the puppy farm. She was
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: just bread and bread and bread. It wasn't treated well.
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: It's almost like she had to She obviously had to
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: fend for her food because whenever there was food, it
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: was just all of it's mine, I'm eating it really
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: really fast. Right. But one time my name came home
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: and she had got into the freezer and eaten and
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: the fridge and eaten an entire loaf of frozen fucking bread,
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: frozen bread, eating it and a dozen eggs, just shells
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: at all.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Shared to that dog and protein made a tasty say,
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: it's clearly clearly loading up. But yeah, NaN's like it
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: was just a leaf of it was frozen shells and
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: all shells and all. Yeah, crazy stuff.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: But this is where sat As little helper is now
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: tied to a stake outside and he's ruined the grass.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: And that's what happens when you have dogs at it.
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: Seay run around the backyard, ruined the grass. Alliot's ruined
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: the back corner of our backyard and the other back
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: corner from when he's bowling the cricket ball and when
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: he's batting, so it's just wherever he's constantly standing.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: So it just just dirt there, no grass. But that's
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: what's happened here. And he's now digging up various toys
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: and I'm sorry. He's just reminded me of something. Whenever
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: I'll go over to Lose, I'll park in one particular spot, yea,
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: on the grass on the road, on the on the grass. Well,
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: sometimes I'll be in the driveway, but sometimes be on
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: the nature ruined the grass well, and I haven't ruined
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: it a flat a little bit. But then I parked
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: on a different aspect of it, and she said, you're
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: going to create another flat spot.
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: On it's the passive aggressive Are you going to do that?
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: And You're like, I know you're joking, but I don't
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: think you are joking. I'll go back to my other spot. Sorry, sweetheart,
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: I came over here to mow the lawn.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: But he's dug up the talking crusty here. You're my
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: best friend, blah blah blah, ruins it their Marge calls
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: doctor Hibbitt at his home. Marge, what are you doing?
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: First and foremost, I can't work out the timeline of
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: this episode because home picks up the morning paper.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: He's not going to work. He's sitting there having his
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: breakfast at the table.
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: Right, that's fine. Maybe he gets up really early, but
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: then Lisa can't go to school. Why are the Hibbitts
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: already the dinner table when she calls.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Oh, well, maybe it's their breakfast table.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: Well, they're having breakfasts where they maybe, but they would
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: have seem made possibly. Something I enjoyed about that their
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: rumors didn't feel like a breakfast vibe. I've certainly had
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: a Cosby vibe. We're in our carsbisweater.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: But something I enjoyed about that bid was like, first
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: of all, I'm very curious as to how you got
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: my home phone number. You don't hear what what she said?
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Very ingenious along those sometimes it were better. That's classic comedy.
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: Writers use your user imas like, oh, that's very clever,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: because it's very clever, and these writers seem clever by extension, and.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: Hibbert here isn't quite the jovial Hibbit that we come
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: to expect.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Yet you get a lot of different voices in this well,
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: because I mean, this was the original hip, but it's
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: they haven't quite worked out the voices yet. True, but
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: even home is a little bit different still, but you
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: get to well, Martin Prince has a dog at the
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: at the at the dog training place. Doesn't sayd like
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: Martin Prince. Does he talk? Does he he does? What
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: does he ask?
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: I've forgotten exactly but I can't remember. But he's there,
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: and he says something as high pitch as it because
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: his voice.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: Was more certainly a modern Prince voice.
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not that his voice wasn't as high.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: It was certainly lower lower. Yeah, yeah, but hibbit's not
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: as we get a slight little but you're not getting Yeah,
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: you're not getting that.
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: He's more yeah, the serious doctor here. But he tells
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: her well, basically he says, I think she's got the mumps.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: He's like, well, I'm the professional. I think I'll diagnose
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: the child. Do you have a Google doctor?
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: I've tried. I try not to now I think I
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: had one too many.
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: Always get worst case scenarios.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: You worry about it. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: Remember once I had a lump like on my parts
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: pieces and I was like, I'm going to die, you know.
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: I googled it like this means you have cancer two
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: days to live. And I went there and I just like, no,
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: it's fine. You know, just had adult just sounding like
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: you'll be fine. It's just a fat deposit. And I
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: was like, oh, okay, then, so I'm not going to
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: die to myrow.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: I got your fat deposit right here. Yeah, thought about it.
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: I thought about saying that, and I went, you know what,
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: I'm not going to say this. My parts around my ankles,
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: my junk's in your hand.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: No way, she's faking.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Please stays home. I stay home. If fight stays home,
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: I'm going to school. Fine, then wait a minute, Plica
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: go to school. Then I go to school, but then
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: Lisa stays home, so I stay home. So Wesa goes
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: to school.
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: Lisa, don't confuse your brother like that. Have a nice
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: day at school.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Bar get my homework from missus Hoover hook Lisa, you
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: waste the chicken picks. Don't waste the months.
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: Apparently, Miss Hoover Grating says in the commentary, was his
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: first grade teacher. Okay, that's where the name comes from
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: from Miss Hoover and him. Here good advice from Barb.
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: You wasted chicken pox. Don't waste the mump. Use this
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: to your advantage. And I've got in my notes. There
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: was a little sense of excitement for me when you
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: woke up as a child on a school day and
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: you felt like you were slightly off. You weren't sick,
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: be like, I can emphasize this, and I can somehow
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: get out of school.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: I can do the first buller and kind of lick
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: my palms.
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: I saw Tommy, I gotta pooh, I gotta pooh, and
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: you just you have a cough. I was able to cough,
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: like a really bad cough on command, so that usually
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: got me out of school. But waking up and going, oh,
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: I can use this.
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: I had that one. Fortunately it was before school, was
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: like maybe a week or so before school returned for
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: the year. It was like early January or something, and
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: I wor, oh, oh, I got a pain in myselthing.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Oh and oh damn, I could have used this sure,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: And it wasn't getting better. It was getting worse and
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: getting worse, and it was like, oh, actually I'm in
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: real pain. Ah, I don't And I turned out how
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: to pend pedasitist. Yeah, I remember mate having that. I
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: remember going I'm an excruciating pad. I'm like, oh fuck,
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: I hope I never get this pedasiitist.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: It's really bad. He was like, he's a kid that
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: never complained. He was like, I don't remember. I'm an
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: excusiating pain.
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: I was like, oh fuck. Oh yeah.
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: And every time I get like a slight stitch, I go, please,
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: not a pedasitist.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Please. These days, I think it's relatively easily taken care
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: of it. But the pain still there. Oh yeah, the
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: pains there absolutely. I think mine was very, very close
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: to bursting before they rushed into.
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: Organs that we don't need as well, Why is it
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: there as long? As like I was left in there
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: by mistake when they designed the human body.
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: It was God's mistake. Yes.
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: But I've got a friend. I saw him on the weekend.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: I won't say his name because he likes to keep
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: this private, but he recently had brain surgery, pretty crazy
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: brain surgery to kind of had a piece of his
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: skull to give his brain more space to so it's
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: not a hole in his skull, but I had to
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: like cave out the inside of his skull so his
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: brain would have more room. But pretty intense stuff, right,
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: I said to him, so like if you use it
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: to just get out of work and stuff, and he goes,
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: I haven't really told anybody. I'm like, mate, if I
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: had brain surgery, I'd be using a brain surgery card
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: every day for like five years. I'd be sitting up
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: a gofund me if someone said to me, can you
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: get me a drink? I got brain brain surgery. He
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: passed that brain surgery. It's the kind of thing I
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: would be dropping that card every chance I got. And
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: he's like, no, I don't worry want to know about it.
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: I'm like, mate, don't waste brain service. Of all the
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: things that way, don't waste brain surgery.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Can you help me out with this?
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, have you recently had a
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: bit of your skull cut out?
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: I'm not laughing at his surgery. No, No, terrified friend
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: sounds like quite the lord. Yeah he is, indeed, but
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: sets a little helper here is still burying items in
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: the yard. This time it's a pop plant. He's clearly
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: just bored and just needs to get his energy out
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: very much.
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: Just a kid.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Who they are is ADHD's add It's like, you know
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: what if you just maybe spent some eh of time
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: with a kid and kept him busy. Yes, he might
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: have as might have a case of it, but you're
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: not helping the case by giving him a night battlet
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: him sit there playing games, go do stuff with him.
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it feels a bit reductive to sort of compare,
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: you know, dogs to children or something like that. There's similarities.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but some podcasts I was listening, he was
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: talking about, you know, the crisis with young males. Everyone's
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: jumping on this bandwagon after watching Adolescents on Netflix. But
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: this guy basically said, yeah, it's like a dog, and
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: a tired dog is a happy dog. A restless dog
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: is an unhappy dog. So you know, it's like with kids.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Take him to the park, let him run around, kick
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: a footy or whatever, but you know, exhaust them.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Ali, after school, he says, can we the footy?
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: I've got nothing to do in the afternoon. Yeah, sure, mate,
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: Let's go kick the footy for an hour and when
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: we get home he's got it out of his system.
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: You know, it's it's not climbing the walls.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: If I said to Alict and we're gonna go home,
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: he'd sit there, he'd fidget. You can tell when Elliott
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: hasn't got his energy yet, he can't sit still.
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: Sure, kids are kids, and particularly young boys are nuclear
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: reactors of energy. Oh yeah mate, Yeah, and if they sorry,
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: I'm putting on my doctor spock at here. But you know,
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: if they're spending their downtime watching scrange or something like that, Yeah,
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: where's that energy gonna go. It's gonna sort of burn
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: up and you're gonna get fall out.
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: Yeah, not good at all. Yeah, we could get There's
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: a whole conversation there which I won't get into. But
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: this is where say this little helper sees Bart get
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: onto the school bus. He breaks free from his chain,
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: but tells him to go back home, but of course
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: he doesn't, and he said, goes on a little adventure,
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: eating some bugs and stealing some beef jerky from the
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: quickie marts, Mum and pop store. Who says, here, and
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: then he chases some ducks at the pond, just having
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: a grand old day. Let me see Sylvia Winfield played
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: by Tracy Ollen. She's calling Homer Yo.
- 1:22:02Speaker 7: Sim said, there's a Sylvia Winfield that canaine of yours
- 1:22:05Speaker 7: is in my pool.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: Again.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: I'm calling a dog warden right now? Oh are you well?
- 1:22:11Speaker 8: You go ahead and call your precious dog warden your
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: battle axe, because my dog is tied up in the backyard.
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: There's only one.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Family on this block, no on earth inconsiderate enough to
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: let a monster like that wrong.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: Free.
- 1:22:27Speaker 8: Are you losing your hearing or are you just stupid?
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: I Am going to explain this to you one more
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: time and then I'm going to hang up on you.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: It is not my dog. I tied my dog outside
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: my shop. I am looking at him, right dog.
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: I just loved Homer here. He was so adamant, well,
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: so cope and I love that like my dog is
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: in my Yeah. Are you out of hearing or just stupid?
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: I missed the battle ax. I love that you are
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: battle ass.
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: But he thinks he's tied up of looking at him, right, dope,
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: man looks at the window and clearly he hasn't been
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: He's broken.

- 1:23:38Speaker 5: he sees Flanders on his walk and Flannders is kind
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: of weird in season two, is not. I feel like
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: the Flanders in like season eight nine wouldn't be buying
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: assassins and things like that. I wouldn't be treating himself.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: It'd be don't spend money on things that's blasphemous, you know.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, as I said, I mean, they really sort
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: of ramp up particular traits and particular addresses of the
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: character's personalities as the show goes along. Here is kind
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: of Yeah. He's not even kind of you know, churchy
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: ned or anything like that. It's more so like a
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: pressy next door neighbor who's like, I've got nothing in
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: common with this guy, but you know, because we share
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: a fence occasionally, we're gonna have to talk.
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: I get almost like Phil Hartman neighbor vibes early from
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: Early Slanders, where it's almost like he's rubbing it in
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: Homer's face what I have, and it was it's not
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: the Christmas episode, the first episode where they've got better
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: lights and they got better presence in the Simpsons, it's
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: almost I don't think he's deliberately doing it. Oh no,
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: he's not doing it to rub it in anyone's face,
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: but but it comes across that way to someone who
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: doesn't have what he has.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and because they're not being you know, sort
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: of flamboyant or ossentation abouts like oh yeah, I've got
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: new sneak because I got to treat yourself for anyone's Ah,
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: I've got nice Christmas lights, you know, so like check
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: out my Christmas lights. How I'm yeah, that was my
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: Phil Hartman. That was my worst fill up. I promise it.
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: I do have a better one.
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: But he says here he loves a dog, and he's like, oh,
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: he's just a good dog, isn't he. And home's mocking
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: his walking attire is where he mocks the pedometer. I
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: think maybe because he's got the gloves and the weight, he's.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: Got ankle weights and like he's holding little handweights.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: Little handworks and stuff. Yeah, but then he sees the
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: assassins and he asks the price and doesn't tell on
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: the price. And let's just say they're not giving them away.
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: But sometimes you're going to treat yourself. And his heart
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: rate's dropping, so he walks off, And I totally buy
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: Flannder's mentality here of you've just got to spoil yourself.
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: Sometimes sometimes you just have to write. I find them
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: in the year twenty twenty five that I'm buying things
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: just purely for comfort at the moment, Like I just
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: feel like I need a bit of comfort, so I'm
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: spending money on shit that I don't need. I think
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: I need to change my buying habits in a sense
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: that I still treat myself. But it's almost like I
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: go many buying someth it's worth fifteen dollars or ten dollars,
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: but I'm buying too much of those things. Wait it
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: out and buy one big thing, because otherwise you just
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: end up with a house full of shit that isn't
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: that good as opposed to one really good thing.
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: I get where you're coming from. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: sort of made a semi conscious decision not to buy
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: too much this year in terms of like what I'd
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: usually get, like a big blu ray set or you know,
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: a good book or something like or or clothes even
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: it's like I really do have enough clothes.
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: But it's hard to describe the feeling of opening up
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: for the first time, like that new blue a box
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: set or something that the I always compare it to
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: a board game. I always say board games. The best
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: player of ball game is opening it up for the
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: first time, or just the.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: Kick of you know, mister Amazon arriving.
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: It's like I got a package for somebody's coming to
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: my house. Somee's like that social interaction it's coming.
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's brilliant. And what you're saying about buying little things,
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: I mean if I would be buying little things that
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: wouldn't be stuff that would necessarily be like something to
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: put on the wall or on the shelf or what not,
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: like not like nacks. Yeah, yeah, I would be like,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: you know what, get the good coffee or this new
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: variant of tim Tam is not on special this week,
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: but I really feel like the strawberries and cream vary its.
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: Yeah, or sometimes there's one point where the supermarket Nicholas
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: like set of PEPs, my, can you just try the alla?
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I saw one.
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: It was a bit cheap, and I was like, nah no,
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: there's some just some things you just gotta you like
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: and just just like it might cost an extra three
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: or four dollars, but you know what, that's not that
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: much money for the happiness that that brings me to
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: have the better version of something.
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely the case. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, there
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: are some things here, You're right that you just don't
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: cut corners on.
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: Yeah, but this is where we have Lisa at Hibbitt's office.
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: She's getting checked over. And I mentioned in the commentary
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: here they really love doing things like the point of
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: view from inside the mouth and that kind of thing.
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: But she's got discolorization of the saliva glands and swelling
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: of the parotids parotids, and she definitely has the mumps.
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: So she's gonna miss a week of school and she
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: worries that she's going to get behind her kids in class,
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: and not in Hibbits, he's impressed with her responsibility.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: He's like, why are you bothered by this?
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: You're just a child, and yeah, So what her favorite subject?
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: Is and shouldn't say math. She says arithmetic, arithmetic, and
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: he says, don't worry, you'd be back in no time
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: doing all your various He says, all the different quadrants
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: quaver or something along. But he says, right now, I
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: have some rest and enjoy a wally pup. So kind
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: of passing here. But I think Hibot's message was you're
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: a kid, for the love of God, just enjoy yourself
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: and relax, you know, just enjoy it. But the walipop
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: actually pays off in a few moments, So homes any
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: donates at work and Lisa was calling in to say
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: giving him her order for magazines, and he mocks her
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: for the kissing disease, and she tells him to quit it.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: And I'd say it at all.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: She wants teen Dream, teen Scream, teen Steam magazine. He
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: asked Lenny to cover for him.
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: I was got.
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: Those were the days holding a magazine in your hand.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: You read those things from beginning to end multiple times
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: in case you missed something. You know, like every bit
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: of text in that magazine. You'd read it, ads, everying,
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: the fine print. And as a teen, I think my
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: go to magazine was was Empire. I lived for that shit.
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: I loved Empire as well. I got all my movie news.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: What was your teen mag?
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Oh, my teen mag? Oh gosh?
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: For my kid mag was Disney Adventures. That was a
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: big one for me.
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: Yeah, well, let's see. And then when it came to movies,
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: I was very big on Premiere and Movie Line. There
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: were a couple out of the UK. One was called
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: Neon that I really enjoyed. Was really that into Empire
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: for some reason? Yeah, yeah, I mean I think I
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: respected it, but I was like, I'm getting my information
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: from other sources in that regard when it came to
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: I think I was trying to be sort of more
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: grown up than that I was. There's a men's magazine.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: When I say men's magazine, I don't mean like Playboy.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: I mean more about you know, falling profiles of Ryan
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: Gosling and pictures of belts, things like new Waallets. Yeah,
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: GQ magazine and Esquire. Still I'm still subscribed to West
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: Cone Magazine. Still get a physical copy of it. They
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: don't bring it out make it yeah, yeah, they don't
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: bring it out once a month anymore. I think they
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: do like maybe six issues a year and honestly, I've
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: still got I've got a few issues that it's like
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: still in the plastic because everything is everything is online.
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: Also the articles are online.
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: Like the idea of knowing one day you'll get to
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: it or is it sure?
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: There will be times and it was like, you know,
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: when I'm going out for lunch or whatever, just I'm
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: going out for a bit of a solo lunch or whatever,
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: and I want to have something to read. I'll take
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: this with me, get a burger or something and just
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: have that going on. But yeah, oh, another way, I've
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: got those big plastic containers. I've got about six or
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: seven of those full of magazines from going back to
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: the nineties. Something I just decided to keep. It's like
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: you've opened them, I just haven't. Oh yeah, yeah about yeah,
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: I've told you. I threughout my massive box of Oh
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: what was the movie magazine from the UK? Wasn't Empire
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: Total Film. Maybe it was Empire Magazine. It was something else,
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure because Empire was from the UK. We
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: had an Australian version for a while. Maybe it was Empire.
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: Anyway, it was just like from nineteen ninety three it
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: was every issue from nineteenninety three through to nineteen ninety eight.
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: I'm like, why did I throw these out? Well, there
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: was one other mag called called Details, which is kind
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: of like the gen X version of GQ or Esquire,
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: and I had you know, fashion spread and celebrity profiles
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. I haven't checked them
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: out in years, but I remember maybe back around twenty
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: ten or so, I had one afternoon of just like
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: flicking through them and it was just, honestly like an
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: acid flashback or jumping into a time machine. How good
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: of like the ads and stuff? Oh yeah, and these
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: were all they were all really thick because you know,
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: they had a shit ton of advertising and subsequently they
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: had a lot of money to pay journalists. I thought
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: that guy that was getting half a million or whatever,
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: Oh goodness, Yeah, yeah, I think I put some I
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: put it any thing up on Facebook recently about some
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: guy who used to work for Vanity Fan magazine who
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: he said he wrote something like three long articles per year,
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: like ten thousand word articles, but he got paid something
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: like close to half a mil.
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: What's the biggest paycheck you ever got for one piece?
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: For one piece? Oh gosh? Or you more paid by
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: the month. I think I was more paid by yeah,
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: by the shift or by the word yeap. Yeah. Then
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: I never really sort of got paid for individual pieces
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: But marj reveal to Lisa the family the Bouvier family quilt,
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: and Lisa's smells historic. This for me, it's trading cards.
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: I love to smell something new that that that smell.
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: It smells I think it smells my favorite sense.
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: It's like a really memories. Yeah, absolutely it is.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: Yeah, five generations of boo Vier women have each added
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: their own square to it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: One was the guy falling back being shot?
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: What is that a take? What is that a Yeah?
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: That's a reference to a photograph called the Falling Soldiers
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: by a guy called Robert Kappa. He's apparently a very
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: very well war photographer.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was just, yeah, the ear of the time.
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: And as we find out later on, Marges was keep
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: on tracking. Don't understand what I meant there. I don't
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: understand what it means now. But so she's just she
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: showed the quote, and I like the idea that Marge
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: has held on to this and it's something that she's
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: been wanting to show Lisa for a long time and
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: now feels like the right moment. Yeah, a real bonding
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: moment between the two of them there, which I thought
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: was really really nice. But she says here that you
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: know you can't because Lisa's I can't do I can't sew.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: I can't do it, and she's you do. You got
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: the memory of a million drop stitches flowing through your veins.
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: You just need to develop a callous. And she brags
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: about her sewing finger, whichmight at least initially thinks is
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: a bit gross, but she learns to go that's a
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: pretty cool talent.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: The whole threatening thing is very cool. Yeah, I must
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: have been. I thought it was a little gross too,
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: just the pricking of that.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: Oh you've got to count I used to have that
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: when I play guitar.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: You couldn't. I thought my fingers were all hard from
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: the strings. I think it's the one thing that it's
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: the one thing that's stopping me from playing guitar, other
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: than my lack of told me back and my LA commitment.
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: It's like it's gonna hurt my fingers to keep strimming
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: like this.
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: I've had the idea for a while, not a family quilt,
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: but a family recipe book where members of the family,
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: everyone's got their specialty dish, right, but have them write
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: it out on a piece of paper and like scan
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: it in and creates this book where each generation you
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: add a new page to it.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: It's a very good idea. I've heard you mentioned this
- 1:33:46Speaker 3: in the past. It was a good idea then, and
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: I think it's still not bad.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: Homer's buying this is magazines, and the other ones include
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: non threatening boys says in Oh yes, brag, it's just
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: say no teen scheme punk his back. Apparently we get
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: Corey on the covered Martin Sheen's teen scene, ha teen Spleen.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: It's various other magazines. Howe is annoy the two dollar price?
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: Haang. I was like, buddy, oh man, what a time
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: to be alive. Two dollars for a magazine. Eat that
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: shit up.
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: But the worker mocks him, and yeah, was wise, guys
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: what he says to him here. But then he sees
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: the assassins in the window. But there aree hundred and
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: twenty five dollar which I believe is about three hundred
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: bucks US. Now, okay, yeah, it's got quite a bit
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: a lot of money for shoes. Oh yeah, maybe even more. Yeah,
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: suppose it's good for good shoes.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: Are these good shoes or that is flamboyant shoes? I
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: think they're just Yeah, they're flamboyant shoes.
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: Yeah, the shoes that everyone's got them, so I want
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: one as well. But hears Flanders in his head saying,
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: I know you should take that, you should buy them.
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: Treat yourself, treat yourself. I'm ordering you to order these shoes.
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: And it's almost like it's a self justification for himself
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: to blame Flanders. Oh sure, I Flanner's told me. Whatever
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: you say, Flanders. But Margin shows Lisa her keep on
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: truck and patch because saying she didn't know what it
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: meant then it means now, but drops off the homework
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: for her funn functions vocabulary remedia or reading nice tried
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: by Barton, try to sit that one under the radar,
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: try to give her his own homework. And then Homer
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: arrives wearing the assassins and bart let's the price slip.
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: Thanks who assassin read him? And weel it's a very
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: elaborate sneaker.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: A jetter be for one hundred and twenty five big one.
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: Day twenty five dollars. Homer, I thought we agreed to
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: consult each other before any major purchases.
- 1:35:26Speaker 8: Well, you bought all of smoke of Arms and we
- 1:35:28Speaker 8: haven't had a single fire.
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: That just feels like classic Simpsons.
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: Yes, that's that feels like I like the outer edge
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: of not jerk Homer, but the kind of selfishification.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: Yes, selfishness, but it's not hurting anybody really, it's just silliness.
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: If anything, it's a dumb ass argument to me. You
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: don't you don't actually think that he believes it. But
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: this is what So this is what that defines irresponsible
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: behavior from Homer A season two I was mentioning earlier
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: him buying shoes. It's a far cry from the season
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: ten to fifteen episodes where he just does out landy shit.
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: But it's also for me watching Homie here and seeing
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: the way marjorieted it. For me, it's the dangers of
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: after pay, because for me, after pay it was one
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: of those things where because Nicholas checks the bank statement,
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: so I'm like, I want to buy something that's worth
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: like like a DVD's well at thirty five forty bucks,
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: I'm like, I'll put it on after pay because then
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: she went, see that I've got the JBI high fire.
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: It's the dangerous road to go down my front door.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I am almost on zero after pay at the moment.
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: That's good.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Keep it there, I said to Nicola. Once we've got
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: down to zero, I'm understalling it.
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: Okay, that's one I'm keeping on because I don't have
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: credit cards for anything, and neither do we. Yeah, I've
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: never had them. They won't let me. Well, that's true.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: There is also that, but yeah, Margaret Mary the other
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: day was saying how things going financially.
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: And as always, Mum say, it was always yes, since
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: you're asking, But you know, I sort of had to
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: she says, this because you're going through a purse at
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: the time.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: It's correct, but I sort I had to break it down.
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: So look, I've never had credit cards, you know, I don't.
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: I even in stronger financial times like oh, I just
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: don't want to have that.
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: It's pressure, isn't it?
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: That?
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: That pressure and the freedom It seems like freedom to
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: purchase things, but it's not.
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: And after pay seems at the track work. Yeah, but
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: I won't uninstalled. I'm I'm kind of I'm a fan
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: of after pay. I can control it. It doesn't control me.
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: It's just a fun way to say after pay. Well sure,
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: except now they've got something called before pay, which I
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: don't I think is a different company. I don't think
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: it's from the same people. It's silly, but it sounds
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: like payday loans before pay. Yeah, hey, goods.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: The sounds a little Helpers flicking through different stations here
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: where we discover it setus or help. We're just going
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: through different channels. We have the news report of the
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: Babysitter bandit from the final episode of Someone Chanted Evening,
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: who was originally going to be It was the first
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: episode that returned. I think it was going to be
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: the usual pilot of the Simpsons. But it looks so
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: terrible that they had to replace the director with David
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: Silman and saved the episode. But Someone Chanted, even Lucille
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: or BUTTSGAUSI the babysit a band that me see. Krusty
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: is on a talk show.
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: Joe. What's the guy's name, Joe Franklin.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: I believe is it Joe Franklin they mentioned on the commentary, Actually, yeah,
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: we believe it's Joe Franklin.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: Who is Joe Franklin, a talk show host in the
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: United States. So you know, I just know the name. Yeah,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: I want to say those guys were a dime a dozen,
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: but there were plenty of them.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Joe Franklin, American hosts and television actor. Okay, so yeah,
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: what did you show finish?
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: Well?
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: You know, like we're talking about things that would be
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: on in the afternoon, like talk shows and chat shows. Yeah,
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: I guess the name that we might know in Australia,
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: although it's very sort of old fashion, Nerve Griffin is
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: one of them. Of course, you had your late night
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: guys like Carson and all that. I think, you know,
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: if you're operating during the day, it meant you were
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: kind of like in the reserves or the B team,
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: unless you were really really sort of good at it,
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: like Donaghue or whatever or Oprah. Oprah was the daytime
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: he late tried, Everyone tried. I mean, well, Ellen was
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: there forever. Now it's Drew Drew. Yeah, I can't watch Drew.
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: It makes me cringe.
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: Cringey, isn't it. It's like they say something in motion
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: and that just gives him a cuddle and I'm like,
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: what are we doing here?
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you what Drew is doing.
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: They can bank. Yeah, this is Joe Franklin. You're right, Yeah,
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: so Crusty's on Joe Franklin show. I think he said
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: something of yours the only show that I will do.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: And then we go duft beer commercial re use footage
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: of Troy Mclaw from They Can't Believe they invented it
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: and it was actually done by Dan.
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: Yeah. I was about to say that, Yeah, it was bizarre.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Do they actually have a little sign on the back
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: saying Troy Mclaw or does the person say that the
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: drum mclauk But it's but he wasn't the established Troum
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: mcclaw character yet. Yeah, it was like, I'm try McClure. Yeah,
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: so that was a better fill. Hum.
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: Yes, And then he notices the assassins in the wardrobe.
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: And I really appreciated here in this scene where they're
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: flicking through the little details of the volume just randomly
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: going up because it's obviously his teeth touched on the
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: volume button, the vogue button goes after. It's little things
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: Hobe.
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: He comes downstairs and finds the massacre, screams no, and
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: all the neighborhood dogs back as well, Like I can
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: see how it is frustrated here because he genuinely he
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: made the effort to keep them away from the dog
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: by putting them in the in the top shelf of
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: the wardrobe.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: So and alot. I think he took it pretty well. Yeah,
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: you would take it. You would take it personally, like
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: Michael Jordan, when when you've made the effort to put
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: a lid on the food or put the shoes on
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: the top shelf or whatever, and it still happened, still
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: happens like this shit on purpose. There's a dog behavior,
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: there's a there's I've got you've got a.
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: Grudge against him taking this personal indeed, Yes, But I
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: don't think though, because I think it took it quite well.
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: I don't think Homer yelling at the dog is really
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: what this episode needed, because as you were saying, yes,
- 1:40:38Speaker 5: there cost a lot of money, but that's his fault
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: for spending money on their shoes and then they're just shoes,
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: and I don't think we wanted to see sales. Little
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: help it getting be rated for shoes. The quilt was
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: something different, You're right, quilt meant something to everybody home
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: and then chains upsetenters will help with a bigger lock,
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: and marcha just obedient school. That's always your answer for everything.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: It's part, says the various classes we have east Side
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: rough Form School, Professor Von Bows's Sanitarium for Dogs. We
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: taught a dog to drive it, says doctor Marvin Monroe's
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: Canine Therapy Institute. Your dog isn't the problem, you are.
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: And then she settles on Emily Winthrop's Canine College. And
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: I just think that the I love that the dog
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: in the ad for the sanitarium one was literally wearing
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: a straight jacket as a great job here of showcasing
- 1:41:18Speaker 5: the different approaches to training a dog, saying you're the problem,
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: or others are saying that we need to be really
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: strict with them.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, some tough love, some gentle parent, Yeah yeah.
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: Moving the blame, shifting the blame and whatnot. But we're
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: now at the college and Emily blows this silent whistle
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: that no one can hear but the dogs in here,
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: shuts all the dogs up, and Martin and Jacques are
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: there bowling structor missed also as Sam from the Barflives.
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: He's there as well as one of the characters. So
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: she gives them all toffees, and she refers to sat
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: as little help, her Satan's little help. And you think
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: that's just planting the seeds of where this is going
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: to be going.
- 1:41:52Speaker 7: Ladies and gentlemen, most of you already know like, with
- 1:41:55Speaker 7: a little love and confession in your poppy will grow
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: up to be God, a little bundle of joy, stone
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: and nonsense, taught by Charlatan's and learned by bloody twits.
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: Let me tell you the two most important words you
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: will ever hear in your life.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: Choke chain.
- 1:42:13Speaker 7: You'll raise the dog the same way you would raise
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: a child, with simple or pricitive commands. You don't followed
- 1:42:21Speaker 7: by immediate correction.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: Well, how can we tell if we're doing this maneuver effectively?
- 1:42:27Speaker 7: The dog's eyes will cross and his tongue will protrude
- 1:42:30Speaker 7: and change color ever so slightly.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: Is my dog dead name?
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: You don't know how often I've asked it.
- 1:42:36Speaker 7: Chook chain is a misnoma.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: Trust me. They are always breathing.
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: But it's kind of kind of confused. He He's like, well,
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: I've been told I have to come in. This must
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: be the right thing to do. But he doesn't like it.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: It's well, the thing is this woman's an authority figure. Yeah,
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: and also British. Yes, trust him.
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: Marge and Lisa are watching the stories and it's pretty
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: it's pretty full on right that it seems somewhat unrealistic
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: that Marge would let Lisa watched his. But in nineteen
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: ninety one we didn't have replays, we didn't have streaming.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: If you missed your stories, missed your story. So she's like, well,
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: Lisa's home, I have to look after her. Fuck it,
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: she's gonna have to watch it goes. I'm not missing
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: this story. I really need to see what is it that?
- 1:43:16Speaker 5: Because Brandy's coming out of her coma and she knows
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: that the Phony Prince's body is hidden in the boathouse,
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: I need to know what happens with this. Meanwhile, the
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: dog chases Snowball two into the room, sees Lisa's lollipop,
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: con visit it for a chicken, steals it runs off
- 1:43:29Speaker 5: with it that Lisa asks, what are we gonna do
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: mum if he doesn't learn anything in Marge is like,
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: I don't know, and as again playing the Seeds of Marche.
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: She doesn't want to get rid of the dog. But
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: she's like, I don't know what we're going to do.
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: I don't know what else we can possibly do here.
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: This dog is just ruining everything, Father McGrath, He returns
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: McGrath gra anyway returns down that you were, Dad, I was,
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: And then we get the montage of but failing to
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: get Sand's little helper to learn anything at the college,
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: whilst all the other dogs are just excelling at everything.
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: She's had something the unity on the floor you entered
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: like a hose that a fire. She's literally now as
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: punishing bart though too, which in turn, I feel like
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: this approach creates resentment between owner and pet. Oh, yeah, absolutely,
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: because you're not learning. I'm now being punished.
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm catching the heat for this. Yeah.
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Over attempts to return the shoes. You're gonna give it
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: a crack, right. The worst I can say is no,
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: But he says, my faithful dog was bringing the shoes,
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: but they fell apart in his mouth.
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: I had this recent well not quite this, but I
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: returned a shirt to a high end country road.
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: No, no, no, no.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: I went up to David Jones in Melbourne with tag,
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: without tag, with tag, but I'd thrown out the tag.
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: See what can you throw it at? I bought this okay,
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: I bought this shirt. You mean throw at the receipt?
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: You mean no, No, I'd thrown at the tag. I
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: bought the shirt, but it wasn't the size that I. Well,
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: I thought it was the size I needed, so I'd
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: cut off the tag, thrown the tag away, and I'd
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: try on the shirt. It's like, oh, man, no, this
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: is this is the size too small. If I if
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: I crashed out, I can fit into it whatever so
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: and but then I found out, oh no, I can
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: get a size larger from this other place. But then
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: the tag was in the in the rubbish, and plus
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: other rubbish got on top of it and it was gross.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: I had like coffee stained on it or something. So
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: I did get it out blow. I took the shirt
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: and my two cents. And I don't think i'd actually
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: bought the shirt from David Jones. I bought it from
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: somewhere else, but David Jones was the place that had
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: it in a high yeah, so I took it after
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: I said, oh, yeah, this shirt's not quite right? Is everything?
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: I don't have the receipt. Sorry, but here's the tag
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: and everything like that. Can I exchange it for seven?
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: She's looking at me like, let's do it this tag.
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: I'm like, so I got it. She'd let you do it.
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: She let him shirt? Good man, I did all right.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: So the tag was separated from the shirt. The tag
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: was definitely separated from the shirt.
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, she's probably thinking, I'm.
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: Just gonna say whatever I can get. Gut had in
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: my store. I was no one's this fucked up.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: I was doing the one hundred, the same guy, Davis
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: charm of fansive. It's like, what a day? How's things
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: going here? Anyway? Weather? How about those cats? Anyway? But
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: I got the shirt and there But anyway.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: The upshot was I got my shirt. That's that's the
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: That's what we all wanted to hear.
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: And then I was in David Jones maybe like three
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: weeks later and going through that same section, and I
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: saw that shirt on the on the rack, and I
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: saw the tag on it, and still it all those
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: same stains reattached to it. They read.
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: Someone's out there with a David Jones shirt. That's been
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: Oh that's crazy, But have you ever worn the shirt?
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: I think i'd put it on, so you wore the shirt,
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: but then I'll do the tag out and then return
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: that motherfucker.
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: That's true, the perfect cray that I'm now confessing to
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: on the podcast. That's awesome.
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: I've gotten no receipt, but boy, what a day before
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: you stepped in to go all right, it's time for
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: the old Davis ch It's go time, bingo.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: That's the thing. I walked away and she was looking
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: at this singer, son of a bitch.

- 1:47:52Speaker 5: he says, so he's tryed to turn the shoes, but
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: the unfortunately the warranty doesn't cover fire, theft or acts
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: of dog. But he sees the glosses cookie and Narcy
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: caut right here, apparently doing her almost natural voice the
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: Alha girl, and she says, we're going to try a sample,
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: and he eats a bunch of samples and says, you
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: can buy some more soft for a dollar, so that's
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: your plan, gets it dipped and then jack up the prize.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: Do you go wild with the samples?
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: I haven't seen samples in the store for a long time.
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: Do they still do that? Did they stop it because
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: it's the health and safety thing?
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: Maybe, but the fantastic Saquita Butcher not far from here,
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: they will always Well they have for a while had
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: like a little plate up on top of the counter
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: with like try out sharizo, try our German sausage or whatever.
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: Did they cook it first? No, No, it's like it's
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: the stuff. It's the deli stuff stuff. Oh yeah, there,
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: iniably like, no, please, we have other customers tell me back. No,
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: I will go wild for samples.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure every time we go to the ice
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: cream store, Nicola tries the sam I want, Nikola, you
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: you set up for.
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: This last time?
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: Well?
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: Giving out? Or is she asked? She's asking can I
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: taste this one? Can I taste something like? Nik, you
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: know exactly what that caramel ascream? Yeah. I always feel
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: a bit dubious about doing that, but sometimes like yeah,
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: or or the del He's like, oh can I I'd
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: like maybe try that honey dam Can I try a
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: bit of it? Yeah?
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: Yeah, It's like, oh no, I don't want that.
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: I always find if I'm in the supermarket and I'm hungry,
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: I just walk past a Danni and second, pleast try
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: some chicken, please, chicken shaved. I can't say no, you
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: have to let you have to offer free samples was.
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: Seen at the supermarket. There's certainly one in particular. I
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: think it's wool As that does it. But you know
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: you will go in. It's like he does have a
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: free banana or an apple for the kids. It's like,
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: I've never seen a grown up do it, but I'd
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: like to. I would probably be the first I've done it.
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: Have you be an apple? Yeah? Okay, grab a banana?
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: Fucking we were gonna do. Pale fans guys like did
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: he just take an apple? Excuse me? Are you under
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: the edge of twelve? It's like, oh no, I'll I
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: was taking his job seriously.
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: I thought the guy here in the shoe store was
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: almost like an earlier version we discussed Wise Guy, almost
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: an early version of Squeaky Voice team.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: A little bit too yeah, I mean, also combined with
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: the archetypal Simpsons slacker voice, you know when they go
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: to a music festival or another. We don't really cover
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: the acts of Dog, so it's all not too much
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: difference between him and Otto. This version of Otto, certainly
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: in this episode, Yeah, wasn't ye man, It was more
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: like here he dude. Yeah, it wasn't really steering into
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: the keep on dragging sores. That mean no one knows.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: So to this day, Homer is writing the letter property
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: of Homer J. Simpson hands off.
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: This is my cookie.
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: Of course that doesn't fit into the cookie jar, but
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: we get the POV the point of view from the
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: dog and its predator vibes. He sees the cookie and
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: he of course takes it. Yes, Lisa is now showing
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: Marge the passion that she has made for the quilt,
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: and it's the two two biggest musical influences in her life,
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: Mister Lago and Bleeding Gums Murphy.
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: She also has a callous as well. We get the
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: eighteen moment, which I thought was a nice sort of touch.
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: You would like that.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Yeah, the dog is drinking out of the toilet. He's
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: walking around and he sees the quilt and you go,
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: oh shit. And March's home and come see what Lisa
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: has done. And they find the dog just chewing up
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: the quilt and six generations ruined, and you really feel
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: so for much. Yeah, oh god, Yeah, this is probably
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: the most one of the most important things. She hasn't
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: seen why someone that really wants for much and this,
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: but this is really important to her for good reason,
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: and it's now gone.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: Do you have any fairly family heirlooms or something that
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: was like important to your family that you broke or
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: that you damaged in some.
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: Way, family elms that are broke, And I have any
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: knowledge of family earms that are broke. I do have
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: things that were given to me by like my nan
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: or my uncle Jock that Elliott has like dropped and
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: sort of cracked or.
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: Broken off gone.
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: I've managed to keep that fine for like thirty years,
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: Like Jock gave it to me when I was a
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: little kid, and you had it for like ten seconds
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: and you fucking dropped it.
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: Can't be angry at you. You just to keep this,
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: like god damn it.
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: Yeah, there was a rock that had like opal on
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: it and it's I don't think they's even worth an it,
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: but Uncle Joh gave it to me when I was
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: a kid. He's like, yeah, I found this when I
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: went to some country like.
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: Africa or whatever.
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: And I was like, that's cool. I've just kept this
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: rock on my shelf from my rooms wherever I move.
- 1:52:08Speaker 5: I've always had this rock, and now I had it
- 1:52:10Speaker 5: in the garage. He's like, what's this And as I
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: put it down, please, and he fucking dropped it and
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: just shattered, and I was like, don't touch things as
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: you It's really there the moments that challenge you as
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: a parent, where you go you've got to go through
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: all the options in your head really quickly because you've
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: any got you know, it's got a few seconds, a
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: few seconds to react, and what you do is gonna
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: leave a lasting impression is yell, do I explain? And
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: you want to just fucking erupt, but it's like, keep cool,
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: explain why. But when they do it again, that's why
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: I try to say to Elliott, I'll only get angry
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: if I've told you not to do something you know
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: you're not supposed to do it, and then you do
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: it again. Yes, then I don't still don't erupt because
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: you don't want to be that rah rah. But sometimes
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: kids need to know that you're the boss. Yeah you've
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: said this, Yeah, but yeah, so you broke any family
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: islands not broken. I just broke that broke the tradition
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: of footballs in the family.
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: I broke the father son.
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: I think I probably mentioned this on one of our
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: shows in the past, but we had this beautiful old
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: sort of like Art Deco style, no, not really out,
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: like a nineteen fifty style map of the world, like
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: a big framed one. I think it was from Quantus.
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: It was like something out of Madman. It was like
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: something to see in Don Draper's office. And for some reason,
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: when I was a kid, I had a sticker of
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: something from Geelong. I think you have mentioned this story,
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: and I stuck it over, like, oh, here's Geelong, and
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: I think the second I did, I realized, well, that
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: fucks everything up, and I tried to peel off and
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: it was like I was starting to peel off the
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: fabric or whatever the paper. I was like, well, I
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: fuck this. I would have done this shit forty five
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: years ago, a lot long long time. It feels weird
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: to say it's one of the great regrets of my life.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: But I feel like I fucking, you know, threw a
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: mustache on the moan of Lisa or something. I was
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: so angry with myself. Yeah, and I don't think I
- 1:54:11Speaker 3: don't think the folks really minded that much. And when
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: it was up in my room, you just can't let
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: it bother you. No, I mean, I don't know where
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: it is now. I don't think we kept it. We'll
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: probably throw it out of because well, this thing's fucking wrong. Thanks.
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: But yeah, till this day, i'm kind of like.
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: It was the point of that. Yeah, but it seemed
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: like a good idea at the time.
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: You were just a kid. Yeah, yeah, so angry. I
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: need to take you to obedience school. That's true anyway.
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: But it's chewed up at the quilt and yeah, it's
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: just terrible and homes trying to comfort March. Look, we
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: all love that quilt. It's fine until he sees the cookie.
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: And I thought this was selfish ridiculous but also funny.
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: Again. Yeah, we're pushing the outer limits of his sort
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: of selfishness, pushing it to slightly ridiculous levels. But yeah,
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: I think we all been there where it's kind of like, oh,
- 1:55:01Speaker 3: you know, it's not so bad, it's not so bad,
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: but you know, the minute it gets personal for you, yeah,
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: oh wait a minute.
- 1:55:08Speaker 5: And I think we've all had a moment in our
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: lives at least once where there is a bit of
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: food left overs from the night before or something at
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: home or whatever that you've just been looking forward to.
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: Oh yeah, certainly, and you come home and someone else
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: is eating it or drunk it, and you're like, I
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: know it's just food, but.
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: I really wanted it.
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: It's very like sometimes Nicholas say, I love rossotto, which
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: just say cooking rostta for dinner, and then it'll get
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: to like tea time. She go, I don't really feel
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: like cooking it, and I'm like, I'm not going to
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: make you cook food.
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: I really wanted it looking for it all day. How
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: dare you be tired? How dare you? But it's fine?
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: Then I of course here, Look I love dogs. But
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: if this happened to me I'd probably reassess my options
- 1:55:54Speaker 5: as well, because I don't know. I like to think
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: I wouldn't want to ever get I don't think I
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: have could bring myself. If I have a pet, I
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: would never be able to get rid of it and
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: not have it anymore. But man, I would be pretty
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: angry if my pet ruled a family, earl them like this.
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: We can say it's there for for living on the bed,
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: but it shouldn't. You should be able to leave it
- 1:56:14Speaker 5: on the bed.
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: You know, something like that. Absolutely, Yeah, yeah, my food.
- 1:56:18Speaker 3: You can kind of understand. Shoes, I guess does some
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: degree feel like something that gets chewed a lot? But yeah,
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: something like a quill. It's like, no way, man.
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: But Homer calls for the family meeting, so it's time
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: to go. Not gonna happen, You gotta go. But even
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: Lisa says we can't. She can't bear to let him go,
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: and Marge degrees, Look, she agrees with Homer. You think
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: Margine can agree with it with List, But I think
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: that's important when you're a parent, you've got to back
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: each other up. And I think having the quilt get
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: destroyed made Marjor realize, Look, we exhausted our options here.
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: This is like probably what we're gonna have to go down.
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: This is the route we have to go down. But
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: please that if he passes the training can be Please
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: keep him.
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: No way, you can't give my dog away. I'll sit
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: by my hair sugar in the gas caboard. I've suffered
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: as much as anyone at the pause of this dog.
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: When I look into his vacant brown eyes, I just
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: can't bear to let him go. I'm sure Mom agrees
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: with me.
- 1:57:11Speaker 6: No, I'm afraid I agree with your father.
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: You do ha ha?
- 1:57:16Speaker 6: Oh Please, it's not just the quilt. He's a nice dog,
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: but he chews up everything. He doesn't obey. He's not
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: even housebroken. And we've spent all this money on an
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: obedience school and I don't see any improvement.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: All right, all right, he sent us Little Hooper studies
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: real hard and pusses his venoles and becomes a perfect dog.
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: Can we keeping them?
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: No, this is our pet.
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: We can question his integrity and disposition, but we can't
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: question his heart.
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: Are you trying to teach.
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: Us that the way to solve a problem with something
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: you love is to throw it away?
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: Oh? Please, if they're ever going to pull the plug
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: on me.
- 1:57:57Speaker 8: I want you in my corner, honey.
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: All right, if he passes obedient score, we can keep.
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: On yay right.
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: I thought this was a lovely moment, felt real. Homer
- 1:58:07Speaker 5: and Marge's anger was justified, understandable from the kids perspective,
- 1:58:11Speaker 5: it's how can you do this? This is our pres
- 1:58:13Speaker 5: our best friend. It was nice that Bart was lucky
- 1:58:16Speaker 5: enough to have Lisa in his corner to protest for him,
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: because advocate advocate for him, because he wasn't gonna be
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: able to convince them that she did it for him.
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: But I thought it was very nice. Bart is trying
- 1:58:26Speaker 5: to teach that a little helper at the school, just
- 1:58:27Speaker 5: trying to teach him to roll over, just all no success.
- 1:58:30Speaker 5: Notice's in the KJO section. Yeah, she gives Bart a toffee,
- 1:58:33Speaker 5: just mocking him. Really, isn't she a good job?
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: Have a toffee?
- 1:58:36Speaker 5: Homer and Marge are writing the ad to give away
- 1:58:39Speaker 5: Sanders little helper. March just maybe we should wait till
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: after he's failed, and he's like, no, no, we've got
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: to commit. And from the writers as well, they've got
- 1:58:45Speaker 5: to commit. We've got to see that they're committed to this.
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: Otherwise we won't believe it, because I think I would
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: have believe they would have given away the dog. So
- 1:58:51Speaker 5: they write the note free to get home, world's most
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: brilliant dog, says I love you in command time, just
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: go with it. We'll we'll fix it on the fly.
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: But is still struggling at the at the school. We're
- 1:59:04Speaker 5: getting to follow basic commands. This is not looking good
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: at all. And as where Homer calls or gets a
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: phone call I think from a potential buyer, the new owner,
- 1:59:11Speaker 5: and he fools him you he thinks, pretends that he's
- 1:59:12Speaker 5: a dog on the phone saying I love you, and
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: he's excited. Now we're gonna get rid of this dog.
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: It seems home it's excited to get rid of the dog,
- 1:59:18Speaker 5: but you know, deep down he's not gonna He doesn't
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: want to get rid of him. Now they're trying to
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: teach the boys the dogs sorry, to stay away from
- 1:59:25Speaker 5: the beef Wellington, and you can hear the pain. I
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: thought Nancy was great. Here the pain in Bart's voice
- 1:59:29Speaker 5: trying to say no, stay, stay, please, I love you,
- 1:59:33Speaker 5: don't do this, and he just does it anyway. Meanwhile,
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: the new owner comes to check on Santa's Little Helper
- 1:59:37Speaker 5: and plans to use him to pull carts and not
- 1:59:40Speaker 5: just for mules, and Homer says, you can pick him
- 1:59:42Speaker 5: up tomorrow and you can hear the crack and his
- 1:59:43Speaker 5: voices it to say, well, I guess this is happening.
- 1:59:46Speaker 5: You know, I guess this is what we're going to
- 1:59:48Speaker 5: be doing. Then missus Winthrop is reading her magazine and interrupting,
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: Sands little Helper says, and he sits on his lap.
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: He's just he's just a dog. Man's of all the dogs,
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: I probably want sat as little help. But if he
- 1:59:58Speaker 5: wasn't doing shit, he seems like the most lovable one
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: of all of them. But it's not working for Bart.
- 2:00:02Speaker 5: You just can't get the dog to get through, and
- 2:00:04Speaker 5: he please to her, look, you're getting me paid anyway,
- 2:00:06Speaker 5: can you just pass him? And I can see it
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: from Emily's perspective, it's like, yes, I ain't getting paid,
- 2:00:11Speaker 5: but I also have a reputation too, and it's obviously
- 2:00:14Speaker 5: succeeding because everyone's going to her school. I did really
- 2:00:18Speaker 5: enjoy also, the delivery of Heavens to Merca fright.
- 2:00:22Speaker 3: It's so dramatic.
- 2:00:23Speaker 5: It's a Snagglepuss saying yes it is. Indeed, Yeah, I
- 2:00:26Speaker 5: love that guy, you do indeed, yep is he stage
- 2:00:29Speaker 5: left stage.
- 2:00:31Speaker 7: The world does not need another college graduate who doesn't
- 2:00:35Speaker 7: know how to sick.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: He'll sit, He'll sit.
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: Come on, boy, sick sick blah blah.
- 2:00:43Speaker 3: Pulling huh correct the dog.
- 2:00:47Speaker 2: I don't want to strangle my dog. Blood it boy, Sorry, boy,
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: you can't help being dumb.
- 2:01:00Speaker 5: This is the moment that makes people not want to
- 2:01:01Speaker 5: watch this episode because they really just don't like this moment.
- 2:01:04Speaker 5: But I think it needed this moment for the emotional
- 2:01:07Speaker 5: payoff at the end is Bart has gone through everything.
- 2:01:11Speaker 5: He is so desperate to want to keep the dog.
- 2:01:13Speaker 5: He's like, well, will this work? And as soon as
- 2:01:16Speaker 5: he does it, you just he doesn't regret. He apologizes,
- 2:01:19Speaker 5: and it's just it's horrible, it's horrifying, and yeah, it's
- 2:01:21Speaker 5: not good at all. But then Marge finds Lisa making
- 2:01:23Speaker 5: her own quilt and she says, as you were saying earlier,
- 2:01:25Speaker 5: it's one thing to be a link in a chain,
- 2:01:27Speaker 5: it's another to start one of your own. And her
- 2:01:29Speaker 5: patch commemorates the destruction of the original quilt.
- 2:01:33Speaker 3: Just the perfect ending. Good for you.
- 2:01:35Speaker 5: I think it was great. Yeah, fantastic enter that arc.
- 2:01:38Speaker 5: Then we get barred again in the backyard. It's nighttime
- 2:01:40Speaker 5: the night before and Bart is trying to teach him
- 2:01:43Speaker 5: to sit and it's just not getting through, and Lisa
- 2:01:45Speaker 5: arise and says, look, stop torturing yourself and him. Just
- 2:01:47Speaker 5: enjoy your last night together. And I think that's why
- 2:01:49Speaker 5: I was watching it going. I was kind reminds me
- 2:01:51Speaker 5: of I knew Jet was going the next day, and
- 2:01:53Speaker 5: I'm like, just enjoy being with him, just enjoy that
- 2:01:56Speaker 5: he's here. Kept saying to Elliott in the last week,
- 2:01:57Speaker 5: Aliot say, I want to go do this, So I'm like, mate,
- 2:02:01Speaker 5: enjoy yet, because once he's gone, he's not he's gone,
- 2:02:04Speaker 5: you know, enjoy these last few moments here and and
- 2:02:08Speaker 5: but here. So a really nice little montage. She not
- 2:02:10Speaker 5: thrown the frisbee and just a kid in his best
- 2:02:13Speaker 5: friend essentially. Yeah, and she throw at least throws the
- 2:02:15Speaker 5: ball though, and he doesn't get it.
- 2:02:17Speaker 3: So clearly.
- 2:02:18Speaker 5: The moment further emphasizes to me that when she came
- 2:02:20Speaker 5: to the dog's defense during the fight, she was more
- 2:02:22Speaker 5: doing it for Bart's sake than her own. Sat as
- 2:02:25Speaker 5: little helper finally understands the words sit though, and as
- 2:02:28Speaker 5: silly and as sort of cliche as it is for
- 2:02:31Speaker 5: me as a fist pump moment.
- 2:02:32Speaker 3: If you're a dog lover, you're like, yes, finally, yes.
- 2:02:35Speaker 5: He's getting through, and it's it's I really really liked it.
- 2:02:38Speaker 5: And as I said, this episode really takes on the
- 2:02:40Speaker 5: emotional rollercoaster. He shows his talent to Emily.
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: Then he really does learn very quickly to pick up
- 2:02:46Speaker 3: on just about everything.
- 2:02:46Speaker 5: Yeah, roll over, yeah, and we get the graduation, so
- 2:02:49Speaker 5: Emily says, you son up a bitch, and they get
- 2:02:51Speaker 5: the home is annoyed at first, but then realizes, oh,
- 2:02:53Speaker 5: I do love this dog and start celebrating, and then
- 2:02:55Speaker 5: we get the animal house ending. So the various ones
- 2:02:58Speaker 5: were Sam's dog but he ran away from home, Martin's dog,
- 2:03:02Speaker 5: Lao Suit, the Chinese philosopher who incorporated the concept of
- 2:03:05Speaker 5: yin and yang. He what happened to him? I didn't
- 2:03:08Speaker 5: actually what he did. He ate a poison toad. Oh,
- 2:03:11Speaker 5: that's no good.
- 2:03:13Speaker 3: I don't think he died.
- 2:03:14Speaker 5: That's no good. And Santas will help a bit Bart
- 2:03:16Speaker 5: but Homer didn't mind.
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: And that's the end.
- 2:03:18Speaker 5: That is the end of Bart's Dog Gets an F.
- 2:03:21Speaker 5: So yeah, by no means the funniest episode. But I
- 2:03:24Speaker 5: think an important episode an episode that really, when I
- 2:03:26Speaker 5: say important, I think it's every sick one, as I said,
- 2:03:29Speaker 5: needs an episode that makes you relate and respect and
- 2:03:32Speaker 5: love the character. I think this episode does that. It
- 2:03:34Speaker 5: definitely does fair. Yeah, all right, so guys, let us
