- 0:22Speaker 1: thirty nine, The Cormorant and the Bat. There was a
- 0:27Speaker 1: time in the olden days when the cormorant and the
- 0:29Speaker 1: bat took council together to do something for the poor,
- 0:32Speaker 1: as they had compassion on them, and they went into
- 0:35Speaker 1: the glens gathering wool to make clothing for them. When
- 0:38Speaker 1: they had a quantity gathered, they took a boat and
- 0:40Speaker 1: put out to sea. It happened as they were sailing
- 0:44Speaker 1: that a storm came on and the waves were breaking
- 0:47Speaker 1: over the vessel insomuch that the poor bat had to
- 0:50Speaker 1: leap from place to place to escape the water, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: in the darkness he was cast out of the boat,
- 0:54Speaker 1: clinging to an oar. At daybreak, he was near the
- 0:58Speaker 1: shore and flew on too dry land. A sea gull
- 1:01Speaker 1: standing near by inquired, oh, little batvox, what's their doing
- 1:05Speaker 1: on thee that thou art? All of a thriddle of
- 1:07Speaker 1: Thrimblin like this. When he heard the bat's story, he said,
- 1:11Speaker 1: as sure as can be, if he will happen on thee,
- 1:13Speaker 1: he will take thy life. They had given each other
- 1:16Speaker 1: a promise that one would not leave the other until
- 1:19Speaker 1: they had completed their task. The bat was so frightened
- 1:22Speaker 1: that he hid himself in an old ruin until the
- 1:24Speaker 1: darkness came on, and from that time until now he
- 1:27Speaker 1: will only venture out under covering of the night. The
- 1:31Speaker 1: cormorant held on to the boat until she filled with
- 1:33Speaker 1: water and sank to the bottom of the sea. At
- 1:36Speaker 1: last he flew to a rock, and there sat for
- 1:39Speaker 1: hours together, day after day, looking out for the bat.
- 1:42Speaker 1: At other times he would go for a season into
- 1:44Speaker 1: the glens. And in this way they continue from that
- 1:47Speaker 1: storm to the present time. The one hides himself and
- 1:50Speaker 1: the other seeks him. End of chapter thirty nine, The
- 1:55Speaker 1: Cormorant and the Bat. Recording by Dharko No
