- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Covering one piece. Episodes 934 through 936. A big turnover.
- 0:20Speaker 1: The three swords style overcomes danger. Zorro stunned the shocking
- 0:26Speaker 1: identity of the mysterious woman. And get the hang of it.
- 0:30Speaker 1: The land of Wano's hockey, Ryo. In these episodes, we
- 0:38Speaker 1: find out who Komurasaki is. And I'm into it, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: I love it, and I'm here for it, and I
- 0:45Speaker 1: love it, and also I love it. No notes. Welcome
- 0:51Speaker 1: to Spoil Me. Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Thank you very much to Bernadette for commissioning this episode.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I don't see Bernadette here today, but lady, you are missed,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and I hope that everything is going well for you.
- 1:26Speaker 1: This is a really fun arc so far, guys. I'm
- 1:30Speaker 1: really enjoying myself. I have this frequently at the start
- 1:36Speaker 1: of arcs, so I do recognize that I've said this
- 1:41Speaker 1: before and probably there are people who are listening going, yeah, well,
- 1:45Speaker 1: we'll see what you say in blank number of episodes.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And that's fair, but I can only comment on what
- 1:51Speaker 1: I know right now. And what I know right now
- 1:54Speaker 1: is that this is a great time. So we're gonna,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we're gonna start with a big turnover, which honestly, I'm
- 2:04Speaker 1: going to be real with you guys. Every time I
- 2:06Speaker 1: have seen the title, I have thought about an Apple
- 2:09Speaker 1: turnover and Like the pastry and a big apple turnover
- 2:13Speaker 1: at that. And now I'm hungry and I would like one.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So if anybody wants to arrange that, it'd be great.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So this episode is picking right up with the fight
- 2:30Speaker 1: between Zorro and our mysterious murdering man. What is his name?
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm looking at the thing. Kamazo, is that right, guys?
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm just like, there's a little blurb under the episode title.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And sometimes I'm like, should I read this? I don't
- 2:54Speaker 1: know sometimes if the blurb is telling me something that's
- 3:01Speaker 1: technically a spoiler. I don't know if I am meant
- 3:04Speaker 1: to know this guy's name or not. But the good
- 3:07Speaker 1: thing is that because there are so many names that
- 3:10Speaker 1: I can't keep track of them, even if this name
- 3:12Speaker 1: were a spoiler, I don't think that I would detect
- 3:15Speaker 1: that it were, that it was. So, you know. Seraphim says,
- 3:23Speaker 1: just wait. Wano really upped the production values and you
- 3:27Speaker 1: haven't even reached the Megumi Ishitani episodes. I hope I
- 3:31Speaker 1: said that right. Well, that's delightful here. Very excited about it.
- 3:38Speaker 1: When you say, Sarah Femme, that they upped the production values,
- 3:44Speaker 1: what exactly does that mean in terms of animation? Like,
- 3:51Speaker 1: does it mean that they hire more animators, that the
- 3:54Speaker 1: animators are able to be more detailed than they usually are,
- 3:57Speaker 1: or that there are like digital effects added to the anime?
- 4:02Speaker 1: It might be all of those things. I don't, you know.
- 4:05Speaker 1: But I am really curious, like there have been times
- 4:08Speaker 1: where it's been mentioned, like the animation here looks really
- 4:12Speaker 1: cheap and that's because they went all out for a
- 4:15Speaker 1: later episode. And I've always simply accepted that, but I've
- 4:20Speaker 1: never really looked into what that means. And I realized
- 4:22Speaker 1: now that I kind of want to know. Seraphim says
- 4:27Speaker 1: the burbs, oh, blurbs, I think blurbs tend to be
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Oda boxes that showed up at this point in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the manga. Yeah. So it's, so it's manga Oda telling
- 4:37Speaker 1: us this info. Okay, cool, cool, cool. There's also, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: want to mention that we have another smile fruit. Well,
- 4:49Speaker 1: actually there's two new smile guys this time. And we
- 4:53Speaker 1: get like a little square that is in Japanese for
- 4:58Speaker 1: both of them. That once again, Crunchyroll doesn't translate. So
- 5:02Speaker 1: apologies if anybody wants me to talk about that specifically,
- 5:05Speaker 1: but it is simply nothing. And all I know is
- 5:08Speaker 1: that one is a bear man. And one, I thought
- 5:12Speaker 1: this was sort of weird. In the subtitles, I believe
- 5:16Speaker 1: he's simply listed as Dillo man. It's he's an armadillo,
- 5:21Speaker 1: but he's not listed as armadillo man. He is listed
- 5:24Speaker 1: as Dillo man. And I'm curious why that is, because
- 5:27Speaker 1: Alpaca Man isn't just Pac-Man, although that would be a
- 5:31Speaker 1: hilarious version of Pac-Man. He is Alpaca Man. Like, it's just,
- 5:36Speaker 1: that's the whole word is in there. And I'm wondering
- 5:39Speaker 1: why Armadillo Man does not have that. But Seraphim says,
- 5:46Speaker 1: more animators, more budget, more high-name professional animators slash directors
- 5:51Speaker 1: being hired. You know, I watched that. little video about
- 5:59Speaker 1: the actress who does chopper and i should have realized
- 6:03Speaker 1: like the guy that they're interviewing for a lot of
- 6:05Speaker 1: it is clearly the director but i just don't think
- 6:08Speaker 1: about animated films or tv shows having quote directors and
- 6:15Speaker 1: of course they do why wouldn't they but you know
- 6:18Speaker 1: i imagine like somebody in a what are they called
- 6:22Speaker 1: those like folding chairs the director chairs just like yelling
- 6:27Speaker 1: at cartoon characters now go over here but obviously they're
- 6:31Speaker 1: directing the voice actors um look nine out of ten
- 6:36Speaker 1: smiles are just animal dash man yeah but like it's
- 6:41Speaker 1: not animal it's it's why is it just dillo is
- 6:45Speaker 1: that a japanese thing like that's what i was thinking
- 6:48Speaker 1: there's all kinds of things that are like uh you
- 6:51Speaker 1: know i kind of question and then it turns out Oh,
- 6:54Speaker 1: it's like a cultural reference. It's an inside joke. It's
- 6:57Speaker 1: a reference to something else. It's, you know, a bit
- 7:01Speaker 1: of folklore or, you know, whatever. What was it? There
- 7:06Speaker 1: was a guy who has the ice power, who's like
- 7:09Speaker 1: animated to look like an actor that exists in real
- 7:13Speaker 1: life as well. Like things like that, you know? So
- 7:17Speaker 1: I am always sort of on the lookout for something
- 7:19Speaker 1: that feels in the moment, really, really specific and, and
- 7:23Speaker 1: whether or not that is due to the fact that
- 7:25Speaker 1: it is, or is it just Oda being a weirdo?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Because nevertheless, that's still very specific, but it's not necessarily
- 7:34Speaker 1: for the same sorts of reasons, I mean. Seraphim says,
- 7:40Speaker 1: speaking of Megumu Ishitani is a director. Oh, pretty much
- 7:46Speaker 1: every episode she works on gets instantly declared one of
- 7:49Speaker 1: the best of the season. Oh, that's cool. So, Is
- 7:55Speaker 1: her coming section the first section of hers that she
- 8:00Speaker 1: has directed? Or have I seen episodes directed by her already?
- 8:08Speaker 1: All the Navy admirals are based on famous Japanese actors.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I didn't know all of them were. I knew about
- 8:15Speaker 1: the Iceman. I'm sorry, his name escapes me. Because I
- 8:20Speaker 1: mentioned him specifically when he showed up as looking a
- 8:23Speaker 1: lot more like a real person. But I don't think
- 8:26Speaker 1: that I knew about the others. So I am interested
- 8:31Speaker 1: to see not only what those actors actually look like,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but I'd be curious to hear about those actors more.
- 8:39Speaker 1: reactions to finding out that they're being cast in one piece.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I know that this was something that was sort of controversial,
- 8:48Speaker 1: was like the person who did animation, not animation, the drawings.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Is it animation when it doesn't move? It's not, right?
- 8:56Speaker 1: It's illustration. For the original comics of Avengers, where Nick
- 9:04Speaker 1: Fury was drawn to look like Samuel L. Jackson before
- 9:07Speaker 1: Samuel L. Jackson was was actually, you know, cast in
- 9:11Speaker 1: the film. And that's part of why there was pressure
- 9:13Speaker 1: to get Samuel L. Jackson. And I wonder if we
- 9:16Speaker 1: were going to do a live action with those characters,
- 9:20Speaker 1: would we be getting the Japanese actors or are they
- 9:23Speaker 1: too old by now? Cause this is also like, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know, but that would be fun. Um,
- 9:31Speaker 1: not Sarah, him regarding, uh, Megumi Ishitani, um, Not yet.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Her first F for the series is coming up in
- 9:39Speaker 1: a bit. Did we have you watch the One Piece
- 9:43Speaker 1: fan letter one shot? I don't think so. That's not
- 9:51Speaker 1: ringing a bell. Yeah, I don't think so. But my
- 9:58Speaker 1: memory is also not to be trusted. and it may
- 10:00Speaker 1: be that I need a little bit more to jog.
- 10:04Speaker 1: All right. Going back to this fight between Kamazo and Zoro,
- 10:14Speaker 1: Kamazo also sheds his own outer robe because he's getting serious.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And it's interesting because Zoro only uses two sword style, which,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you know, he'll frequently not use three sword style. He
- 10:34Speaker 1: pretty much only seems to bust that out when shit
- 10:36Speaker 1: is getting real, real serious. But at the moment, I
- 10:40Speaker 1: think he only has the two swords, right? And I
- 10:45Speaker 1: wonder if he would have done three sword if Zoro
- 10:49Speaker 1: This would have felt like the occasion to do it,
- 10:52Speaker 1: had he the option. And long story short, Kamazo impales
- 11:02Speaker 1: him at one point. And Zoro, he can't pull the
- 11:11Speaker 1: weapon back out of Zoro. I just want to stop
- 11:16Speaker 1: and think about that. here's, here's my head cannon for
- 11:22Speaker 1: me in my brain. I'm so sorry, guys. This is
- 11:27Speaker 1: so stupid, but in my brain, the way that this
- 11:33Speaker 1: worked is Zorro gets in, like it's through his pectoral.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think that when this guy is trying to pull Zorro,
- 11:45Speaker 1: his weapon back out. And I'm not really sure what
- 11:47Speaker 1: this kind of weapon is called because they're these long
- 11:50Speaker 1: curved blades that they almost look like scimitar blades, but
- 11:54Speaker 1: they're on the end of sort of spears, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: like that's how long the reach is. Um, and I
- 12:03Speaker 1: feel like normally I would call this a, uh, Oh shit.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Now I've forgotten the actual word, but I'm not sure
- 12:11Speaker 1: that that applies when the blade is this long. Seraphim
- 12:16Speaker 1: says a scythe. Maybe it is. The blades just seemed
- 12:22Speaker 1: so much longer than normal, but that just may be
- 12:27Speaker 1: the illustration style, and it might be that they are
- 12:30Speaker 1: meant to be scythes. Because there is a vibe of
- 12:33Speaker 1: this dude sort of being the agent of death, sort of.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So maybe that is... like a fair, yeah. All right.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I'm going to, I'm going to go with sides. I
- 12:46Speaker 1: think that is, that's good. But, um, my, my mental
- 12:53Speaker 1: head cannon is that Zorro flexes his muscles so hard
- 13:00Speaker 1: when this guy tries to yank it out, that the
- 13:03Speaker 1: muscles just grab onto the blade and won't let it
- 13:08Speaker 1: come out. That that's like not accidental, but, it's not
- 13:11Speaker 1: just circumstantial. It is a purposeful choice Zoro is making
- 13:17Speaker 1: so that this guy can't get his weapon back. And, um, I,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, Zoro's injury is nothing to sneeze at. What happens? He,
- 13:29Speaker 1: of course, eventually handles Kamazo, but it's not like, I'm
- 13:36Speaker 1: trying to find the spot here because, um, The guy
- 13:40Speaker 1: that he had originally been fighting that they got interrupted. It's... Ooh,
- 13:48Speaker 1: something Maru. What is this guy? Lena says, I like
- 13:54Speaker 1: that theory. Seraphim says, no, that is totally the answer.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Zoro just flexed. Only logical option. The guy that gets...
- 14:04Speaker 1: That he is originally fighting who gets interrupted is... later
- 14:10Speaker 1: on still standing there and Zorro looks at him and
- 14:14Speaker 1: is just like, Oh, come on, man. Do we need
- 14:17Speaker 1: to do this right now? And that did sort of
- 14:20Speaker 1: just like laughs, turns around and walks away, which I
- 14:26Speaker 1: was very surprised to see how he doesn't have any
- 14:34Speaker 1: parting words. There's no moment of like, um, explanation or,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and I'm curious what all you think, because my assumption
- 14:47Speaker 1: is that this guy thinks the wound Zorro has sustained
- 14:51Speaker 1: is fatal and that he doesn't want to fight somebody
- 14:56Speaker 1: who has been injured that bad because it's one, not
- 15:00Speaker 1: a fair, decent fight, but two, this dude's going to die.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I don't need to do it. It's, it's finished, you know, Um,
- 15:10Speaker 1: and I am not sure if that's it or not.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I also, there's the possibility that this guy is seeing
- 15:19Speaker 1: that Zoro fought to defend this woman and child. And
- 15:25Speaker 1: he's like, oh, I was fighting you because I, doesn't
- 15:28Speaker 1: he accuse Zoro being like a mountain bandit at one point?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Maybe it's the fact that Zoro did something that's like,
- 15:35Speaker 1: good and honorable in that man's eyes and so he
- 15:38Speaker 1: had originally been like i'm gonna fucking take you out
- 15:44Speaker 1: but then zoro does something and he's like all right
- 15:48Speaker 1: you know what that was pretty you saved their lives
- 15:52Speaker 1: so i guess and just like leaves it but i
- 15:57Speaker 1: feel like if that were it he would have said
- 16:00Speaker 1: I don't feel like he would have like turned and
- 16:02Speaker 1: smirked at Zoro the way that he does. So I'm
- 16:05Speaker 1: not really convinced that's it, even though it does kind
- 16:07Speaker 1: of make sense as an explanation. It just doesn't seem
- 16:09Speaker 1: to really align with the way he behaves in that moment. Oh,
- 16:16Speaker 1: Seraphim says of stealing the sword of one of Wano's heroes.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I forgot about that. Right, right, right, right, right. And
- 16:23Speaker 1: I also forgot. So sorry, guys, because I'm talking about
- 16:26Speaker 1: the three swords style. I forgot that he puts the scythe.
- 16:30Speaker 1: in his teeth and does like two sword, one scythe.
- 16:33Speaker 1: It's a new porn video. Don't look it up. But yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I completely forgot. And he says purgatory. That's the like
- 16:47Speaker 1: keyword for the technique that he is using here. And
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't know what is happening here. during this sequence.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm going to say that. There's a lot of wild
- 17:03Speaker 1: animation happening. First, when Zorro gets impaled, it all goes
- 17:08Speaker 1: black and white. And it's not the first time that
- 17:12Speaker 1: we have done a black and white during a really
- 17:15Speaker 1: big key, like, plot shocker kind of moment. But what's
- 17:20Speaker 1: sort of odd is that normally that kind of moment is, like,
- 17:23Speaker 1: also contains... in the actual plot, there is like something
- 17:29Speaker 1: related to light happening. And so that big bleached out
- 17:33Speaker 1: look with the black illustration almost is like the impression
- 17:39Speaker 1: of what it would look like if you were hit
- 17:41Speaker 1: by a bright light, as in the fire breath, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: earlier in this arc, things like that. But this is
- 17:49Speaker 1: a black and white when, where it feels like a
- 17:54Speaker 1: very thorough, animation otherwise. It just looks like we took
- 18:00Speaker 1: film and we've switched to black and white for a
- 18:02Speaker 1: little while. And so for a second, I thought that
- 18:05Speaker 1: maybe it was going to turn out that this was
- 18:08Speaker 1: like a weird dream sequence or a mental plan or something.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I wasn't really getting that it was the drama of
- 18:18Speaker 1: it because the look of it is different enough. It's
- 18:22Speaker 1: part of what's a little tricky, I think, sometimes with
- 18:27Speaker 1: anime in general, but this series going on for so
- 18:30Speaker 1: long in particular. And I know that I've run into
- 18:33Speaker 1: this before where you guys have had to explain to
- 18:35Speaker 1: me that the animation style will change and there will
- 18:40Speaker 1: be things that like choices with coloring or the way
- 18:45Speaker 1: that like light glows from or reflects from things that
- 18:49Speaker 1: had used to mean something and now don't mean that
- 18:52Speaker 1: anymore and are just for like the cool look of it.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So I'll get a little bit mixed up on, wait,
- 18:58Speaker 1: is this supposed to mean such and such? Or you
- 19:00Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? Like, and I believe that there
- 19:03Speaker 1: was something earlier in, I don't remember if it was
- 19:06Speaker 1: this arc or the one before where we see the
- 19:09Speaker 1: glow coming off of Luffy when he uses armament hockey.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And it's an addition to the black kind of shiny
- 19:19Speaker 1: metal surface that we see appear. And I was thinking,
- 19:22Speaker 1: is this like an additional skill that, But no, it
- 19:25Speaker 1: was just an addition to the look of armament hockey.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So this, anyway, that's like the first bit of really
- 19:38Speaker 1: bonkers animation. And then when we get Purgatory, it's odd
- 19:45Speaker 1: because Zorro says Purgatory first. There's this like purple light.
- 19:50Speaker 1: that comes up and it's shooting off of him upward
- 19:55Speaker 1: in like a, what's the word I want? It's like
- 19:58Speaker 1: a candle flame almost, but obviously humongous. I don't even
- 20:03Speaker 1: want to say a bonfire because I feel like it's
- 20:05Speaker 1: a relaxed kind of flame. I don't know. And then
- 20:09Speaker 1: he says on a jury and I don't know what combination,
- 20:14Speaker 1: like we've definitely never seen this before though. And he
- 20:19Speaker 1: comes at this guy, Kamazo with this attack that we
- 20:25Speaker 1: have like cubes, giant cubes, like, building-sized cubes almost seeming
- 20:37Speaker 1: to appear in midair and then, like, fall on him.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I feel like I'm missing a thing, and I don't
- 20:44Speaker 1: get what exactly. Like, it's obviously a huge attack. It's
- 20:47Speaker 1: something we've never seen before. He pulled out stops, and
- 20:51Speaker 1: this is what takes care of Kamazo. I'm not thinking
- 20:55Speaker 1: that he's actually dead, just because that doesn't really usually
- 20:59Speaker 1: seem to happen. But I'm curious if there is something
- 21:02Speaker 1: that you guys are able to explain. I don't know
- 21:04Speaker 1: if it's spoilery, and maybe you can't. But if there's
- 21:07Speaker 1: something specific about this attack that is meant to have
- 21:10Speaker 1: happened here. But yeah, I was really curious because it's so...
- 21:19Speaker 1: We have had a lot of really big, cool attacks
- 21:23Speaker 1: from Zoro where there's like, an animal involved. I feel
- 21:30Speaker 1: like there was, wasn't there one with a bull? I'm
- 21:32Speaker 1: trying to remember all of the different techniques over the years,
- 21:35Speaker 1: so to speak. I guess it is years in terms
- 21:37Speaker 1: of my fucking coverage too, though. Jeez. And I'm trying
- 21:41Speaker 1: to think of like, when has there been a new
- 21:45Speaker 1: one and what have they been called? But this feels
- 21:48Speaker 1: like a really different overall look and ability to because
- 21:55Speaker 1: of the the matter like a different matter these big
- 21:59Speaker 1: cubes of stone it looks like being involved and i
- 22:03Speaker 1: think that's like an animation choice and not literally happening
- 22:07Speaker 1: because once we turn the camera that's not there anymore
- 22:12Speaker 1: but i'm not sure what i'm supposed to have read
- 22:14Speaker 1: it as is it supposed to be like the pressure
- 22:16Speaker 1: is raining down from above or um Seraphim says Onegiri
- 22:23Speaker 1: is one of his most common moves. Yeah, that one,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I remembered that. It's the purgatory before it that I
- 22:30Speaker 1: was like, what exactly, how does that tie in with Onegiri?
- 22:36Speaker 1: What change does it make to the attack? You know
- 22:38Speaker 1: what I'm saying? Yeah. Seraphim says this is one of
- 22:45Speaker 1: those bringing in a big name animator moments and this
- 22:48Speaker 1: is his signature style of action scenes. Oh. It could
- 22:53Speaker 1: mean either ogre slicer or rice ball depending on how
- 23:00Speaker 1: it's written. Huh. Okay. Purgatory. Purgatory. So that's a translation
- 23:12Speaker 1: choice then. It's not carrying the same kind of name
- 23:16Speaker 1: and meaning in Japanese. Because purgatory just is such a
- 23:21Speaker 1: specific thing in English, you know. But the purple light, dope.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I get irritated sometimes because I fucking love purple. I
- 23:36Speaker 1: love deep pink, hot pink. I love purple. And when
- 23:41Speaker 1: they are mixed together, they're fucking awesome. And so often
- 23:45Speaker 1: they are mixed together for the effect of a bad guy.
- 23:49Speaker 1: In so many different properties, purple and black are the
- 23:54Speaker 1: colors of evil spells or curses or just like the
- 24:00Speaker 1: colors of the baddie who is, you know, that's his outfit.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And it always warms my heart when people, we get
- 24:10Speaker 1: a character that's a good guy with a purple and
- 24:13Speaker 1: black and violet kind of color scheme. Big, big fan.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So anyway, he gets very, very badly injured and wakes
- 24:24Speaker 1: up later on in the care of Komurasaki and Toko,
- 24:31Speaker 1: who I really don't like. I know I've said this before.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And I don't like to think ill of a child.
- 24:44Speaker 1: But she's just so fucking weird and I just can't
- 24:48Speaker 1: see her being drawn this weirdly for no reason. Like,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it's an interesting question. Oda has certain tics with the
- 25:06Speaker 1: way that he animates that sorry, I keep doing that,
- 25:10Speaker 1: but he tends to really get what's like weird, but
- 25:18Speaker 1: still cool looking versus what is crossing a line into, okay,
- 25:22Speaker 1: now this is just bonkers and strange. I feel like
- 25:27Speaker 1: there are plenty of times where something is, is super weird, but,
- 25:33Speaker 1: not necessarily disturbing. And I feel like that's intentional and
- 25:37Speaker 1: he really understands where that line is. And I, I
- 25:41Speaker 1: cannot tell if I should apply that history here. It's like,
- 25:50Speaker 1: this is a purposeful choice to draw her this way
- 25:53Speaker 1: to have her voice kind of be the way. And
- 25:56Speaker 1: I don't mean voice like in the, uh, dub. I
- 25:59Speaker 1: mean like the way that she talks and, and her
- 26:04Speaker 1: personality coming through in her dialogue. We are dealing a
- 26:10Speaker 1: lot in this section with people trying to figure out
- 26:14Speaker 1: who the traitor is. And if it weren't for the
- 26:18Speaker 1: fact that it seems Komurasaki has no idea about what's
- 26:23Speaker 1: going on yet, I would almost wonder if it were Toko,
- 26:26Speaker 1: just because it's a really unexpected place for it to
- 26:30Speaker 1: come from. the betrayal coming from like the child that
- 26:33Speaker 1: seems so innocent, but, and I mean, it still could
- 26:36Speaker 1: just cause Kimura Saki doesn't know, doesn't mean that Toko
- 26:39Speaker 1: doesn't know, but I don't think, I don't think that
- 26:44Speaker 1: she's more than what she looks like. It seems like
- 26:48Speaker 1: it might just be like, we had to have a
- 26:52Speaker 1: second child in this arc and it didn't want her
- 26:55Speaker 1: to look exactly like, uh, tomato i keep doing i
- 27:03Speaker 1: don't know why i just want her to be tomato
- 27:06Speaker 1: in my head otama thank you sarah fam oh my
- 27:09Speaker 1: god everybody um but maybe that's it like you i
- 27:13Speaker 1: just want to be able to keep them straight the
- 27:15Speaker 1: thing is though if that were true why is he
- 27:17Speaker 1: dry on all his women like exactly like i don't
- 27:20Speaker 1: know i don't know i just find her sus there
- 27:25Speaker 1: is something about her that is deeply unsettling and it's
- 27:31Speaker 1: like related to the fact that she seems to almost
- 27:33Speaker 1: never blink the wide openness of her eyes. Like that
- 27:37Speaker 1: is a thing that people who are lying will try
- 27:40Speaker 1: and do in order to undermine our assumption. A lot
- 27:45Speaker 1: of times is that like, Oh, if somebody is talking,
- 27:47Speaker 1: but they're not making eye contact, that means they're lying.
- 27:50Speaker 1: And so folks who are trying to appear super sincere
- 27:53Speaker 1: will make too much eye contact and not blink enough
- 27:56Speaker 1: in an effort to like, you know, and it, backfires
- 28:00Speaker 1: sometimes because you're like, okay, well, you're just acting weird now,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but sometimes it can be effective and fool you. So
- 28:08Speaker 1: there's that. And then there's also the actual literal voice
- 28:12Speaker 1: of the voice actress doing her voice is shrill and irritating.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And the constant laughter is like almost crazy. creepy in
- 28:29Speaker 1: like a serial killer kind of way, you know? And I, like,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I know that there's this whole town where we laugh
- 28:35Speaker 1: when we're sad because there's like no better way to
- 28:38Speaker 1: deal with tragedy than to make jokes about it. And like,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you know, whatever. And it may just be that she
- 28:44Speaker 1: sort of subscribes to that, like, you know, school of thought,
- 28:48Speaker 1: but it's different when like a whole town is doing it.
- 28:52Speaker 1: It's still very upsetting, but you, you kind of are like,
- 28:57Speaker 1: all right, weird, but I guess you guys, this works
- 29:00Speaker 1: for you. When it's one person alone doing that, it
- 29:04Speaker 1: just gives a different impression, you know, and energy. So look,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I'm not, I'm not going to fixate on this too,
- 29:13Speaker 1: too much, but I hate her. I really do. And
- 29:20Speaker 1: it makes me super sad that Kimura Saki, who is
- 29:24Speaker 1: the fucking G, is like besties with this little gremlin
- 29:33Speaker 1: i don't like it i i she i don't like
- 29:36Speaker 1: it i don't like it so that's where we're going.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I'm going to jump ahead a little bit into the
- 29:45Speaker 1: next because we've got a bunch of stuff going on
- 29:49Speaker 1: in this first episode that involves other people and I'm
- 29:52Speaker 1: kind of wanting to stick to what goes on. We
- 29:56Speaker 1: find out Komurasaki is the sister of Momonosuke, but she
- 30:04Speaker 1: having not traveled forward in time, the way that he
- 30:07Speaker 1: did aged. So she is super excited when she finds
- 30:15Speaker 1: out that her little brother is indeed here and that
- 30:18Speaker 1: he's still only like what, seven years old, something like that. Um,
- 30:25Speaker 1: Seraphim says Murasaki is just a better, more forgiving person
- 30:29Speaker 1: than you, I guess. Obviously. I mean, look, most people are.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I think most people tend to be more forgiving than me.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Better people? I think it depends on what you mean. But, like, probably.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm not a super giving person to strangers, you know?
- 30:52Speaker 1: I am empathetic. And I want to do the right
- 30:56Speaker 1: thing by strangers. But like, you asked me to give
- 30:59Speaker 1: up my time. I don't know, man. Depends. And the
- 31:05Speaker 1: idea of kind of being like mother to a child
- 31:09Speaker 1: that is not mine, that is like, maybe this is
- 31:13Speaker 1: exactly how it would play out for me if I
- 31:15Speaker 1: had been in this situation. At one point, I think
- 31:18Speaker 1: Morisaki says like, she reminds me of me at that age.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And so there's that aspect as well of kind of,
- 31:23Speaker 1: This little girl... I mean, that's what it is. What
- 31:28Speaker 1: children are a lot for adults in general is just
- 31:31Speaker 1: like a way to link back and remember your own childhood.
- 31:37Speaker 1: So possibly. But I don't know. If the child didn't
- 31:41Speaker 1: make me feel quite so much like she's a Chucky doll,
- 31:46Speaker 1: then maybe. I don't know. But I wish... that she
- 31:53Speaker 1: weren't such a creep because then I would be fine
- 31:56Speaker 1: with this. I just like Kimura Saki a lot. And
- 32:00Speaker 1: I think she deserves a better bestie than a creepy child.
- 32:04Speaker 1: But anyway, so we have Zoro explaining to her, like
- 32:13Speaker 1: who all is here. And it's just way more of a,
- 32:18Speaker 1: a show of force than I think she was expecting
- 32:21Speaker 1: there to be at this point, which is nice. I mean,
- 32:25Speaker 1: it's always nice to have your expectations blown out of
- 32:29Speaker 1: the water regarding people who are, you're depending on to
- 32:34Speaker 1: kind of right the wrongs of the past. But also
- 32:39Speaker 1: we have this whole thing in town, which it is not,
- 32:44Speaker 1: part of Zorro's storyline because she isn't telling him this.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I believe it's Usopp who is hearing this story. I
- 32:51Speaker 1: can't remember who he's with. And, um, there is a woman,
- 32:56Speaker 1: an old lady who is explaining how I love this
- 33:02Speaker 1: so much. There are these three men who were rich
- 33:07Speaker 1: and shitty and they did all awful things and managed
- 33:15Speaker 1: to get out of them scot-free because they were able
- 33:19Speaker 1: to bribe and pay people off to either look the
- 33:22Speaker 1: other way or hide evidence or whatever, you know, like
- 33:24Speaker 1: it's just the usual bullshit. And all of these men
- 33:32Speaker 1: fell in love with Gamora. Wait, am I getting her name?
- 33:38Speaker 1: This is when I start to get really, I start
- 33:41Speaker 1: to trip myself up because I'm like, I have the
- 33:45Speaker 1: name so in hand that once I started to get
- 33:49Speaker 1: comfortable with it, I'm like, I have to be wrong
- 33:51Speaker 1: because I'm never this, you know, but Kimura Saki, it
- 33:55Speaker 1: turns out they're all in love with Kimura Saki and
- 33:58Speaker 1: that she, those are all of the guys that she
- 34:01Speaker 1: scammed out of all of their savings and got them
- 34:07Speaker 1: to leave their wives, et cetera, et cetera. And, I
- 34:13Speaker 1: don't know, man. I didn't even need this to be
- 34:17Speaker 1: true about them. And I was still perfectly happy. But
- 34:22Speaker 1: to find this out, I am so sorry. But it's
- 34:31Speaker 1: just a hot fudge on a Sunday that was already fantastic.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I was going to say whipped cream, but no. this
- 34:40Speaker 1: is better than whipped cream. It's a hot fudge where
- 34:43Speaker 1: you've been having a good time. Ice cream is always great.
- 34:46Speaker 1: But then you do something that you're just like, oh
- 34:48Speaker 1: my God, how did you make it this much better?
- 34:52Speaker 1: I cannot tell you how much I wish this were
- 35:00Speaker 1: something within my power to do. The way that if
- 35:04Speaker 1: I could go back in time and use the looks
- 35:07Speaker 1: I had in my early 20s for good slash evil, depending.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I would fucking love if I especially were able to
- 35:20Speaker 1: time travel so that I knew who was going to
- 35:23Speaker 1: turn into a complete maniac. Being able to go back
- 35:28Speaker 1: in time and, like, seduce Jeff Bezos and take all
- 35:30Speaker 1: his money and, like, sink his ship. I mean, can
- 35:34Speaker 1: you imagine just, like, completely wrecking that? I... Trump, Trump
- 35:39Speaker 1: is one. I don't know if I'd be willing to
- 35:40Speaker 1: take that bullet, man. I don't know. It all depends. Hmm.
- 35:45Speaker 1: But anyway, brilliant strategy. I love it so much. And
- 35:51Speaker 1: it's so funny to remember the way that she said,
- 35:53Speaker 1: men are just dogs that fetch me riches because like,
- 35:58Speaker 1: now that we are getting to know who she is
- 36:00Speaker 1: and what she's like, that is so untrue about her personality,
- 36:05Speaker 1: but she was willing to, to come across as that
- 36:08Speaker 1: much of a cold bitch just to get the job done.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And I respect the fuck out of that. I love it.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. Favorite character of the
- 36:20Speaker 1: entire series. And it's not even close. And I hope
- 36:24Speaker 1: that we get so much more of her. I really,
- 36:27Speaker 1: you know, I didn't think it was likely that she
- 36:31Speaker 1: was actually dead because But I also wasn't expecting her
- 36:35Speaker 1: to be as big a player in the main rebellion
- 36:41Speaker 1: plot either. And to find out that she's literally Momo's
- 36:47Speaker 1: sister is such a great reveal. I really, really love that.
- 36:54Speaker 1: It's just giving more of her all the time forever. So,
- 37:01Speaker 1: all right, now I'm going to back up. trying to
- 37:04Speaker 1: make sure that I'm like not missing any, but I'll
- 37:06Speaker 1: have to go to the end of that episode eventually
- 37:07Speaker 1: and see. There's also like, I'm not going to, I'm
- 37:12Speaker 1: not really saying that this is true. I'm not really
- 37:17Speaker 1: saying this. Okay. So I want to make that clear.
- 37:20Speaker 1: It's more like this could be possible in a different series,
- 37:27Speaker 1: or it could be possible if we were going to
- 37:30Speaker 1: have Zorro do something sort of unusual and Zorro never
- 37:34Speaker 1: really seems like he is interested in women. There's never
- 37:39Speaker 1: been a time where he's flirted that we've really seen
- 37:43Speaker 1: or been like, wow, she's really beautiful. Like even something
- 37:46Speaker 1: basic like that. Zorro always is about his business. And
- 37:52Speaker 1: that is sort of it. And yeah, there are some
- 37:57Speaker 1: moments in these episodes where I was like, in someone
- 38:02Speaker 1: else's hands, the two of them would wind up having
- 38:06Speaker 1: a thing. Whether or not it actually materialized, that would
- 38:13Speaker 1: depend on who's handling it. But I could definitely see
- 38:17Speaker 1: there being a sort of will they, won't they going forward.
- 38:22Speaker 1: And I don't know that we're ever going to get
- 38:26Speaker 1: that with Zorro with anybody, because it just doesn't really
- 38:29Speaker 1: seem like the character, but there are plenty of people
- 38:34Speaker 1: who don't really seem to have that. And then they'll
- 38:37Speaker 1: find the right person. And all of a sudden it appears.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And I would not be mad at there being a
- 38:46Speaker 1: little bit of that between the two of them, especially
- 38:49Speaker 1: considering I love when, uh, when he winds up taking out,
- 38:55Speaker 1: what's his name? She's like, what strength? And there's almost
- 38:59Speaker 1: like she clasps her hands together and, and faints, you know,
- 39:02Speaker 1: like it's not really, but there's a, a sort of
- 39:05Speaker 1: similarity to the, Oh, my hero, you know, that kind
- 39:09Speaker 1: of thing. And I had a moment of like, huh.
- 39:14Speaker 1: And then later when he wakes up and she's caring
- 39:17Speaker 1: for him and everything is very like intimate and, I did, again,
- 39:22Speaker 1: sort of think, huh, but I don't necessarily really feel
- 39:26Speaker 1: like that's something that's going to happen. It's just, it
- 39:29Speaker 1: was a... was got my attention because it would definitely
- 39:33Speaker 1: be that were this a different type of story. Um,
- 39:39Speaker 1: so anyway, I just wanted to mention that because if
- 39:43Speaker 1: it does go somewhere, I want to on record that
- 39:46Speaker 1: I had like noticed, but I don't really think it's
- 39:49Speaker 1: going to go anywhere um all right so backing up
- 39:53Speaker 1: Luffy Luffy honestly there is just not much forward movement
- 40:00Speaker 1: with him here um we get him attempting to do
- 40:07Speaker 1: his like new not his new attack because calling it
- 40:12Speaker 1: that it's not his like he doesn't have it yet
- 40:15Speaker 1: you know um but For the whole first two episodes,
- 40:23Speaker 1: we have the challenge against Queen. Sorry, I completely like
- 40:33Speaker 1: blanked on his name for a second. We have the
- 40:35Speaker 1: challenge on Queen and the fact that Luffy is convinced
- 40:40Speaker 1: I am going to have to go up against somebody
- 40:42Speaker 1: way stronger than the guys that I have been if
- 40:45Speaker 1: I want to figure out this attack, you know. and
- 40:51Speaker 1: the thing that we do get is Hyogoro showing Luffy
- 41:00Speaker 1: a means with not even a touch and he takes
- 41:06Speaker 1: down Alpaca Man now I am not entirely certain why
- 41:15Speaker 1: it took this long because like earlier Hyoguro is like, oh,
- 41:19Speaker 1: I hate to be dead. Wait, I'm so sorry that
- 41:22Speaker 1: you're like stuck with me as a partner. There's just
- 41:25Speaker 1: a sense of, of I can't fight. I'll be no help.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I won't be able to like pull my weight. But
- 41:31Speaker 1: then he busts out something that's fucking insane. Out of nowhere.
- 41:37Speaker 1: And I don't really understand. It doesn't seem like he's
- 41:40Speaker 1: hiding who he is. They're using his name, the, the
- 41:45Speaker 1: guards and whatnot. You know, it, Like if it had been,
- 41:49Speaker 1: I want to keep secret that I'm still alive or something,
- 41:52Speaker 1: then that would make sense that at this point he's like,
- 41:55Speaker 1: you know what? Luffy is a fucking badass. And maybe
- 41:59Speaker 1: this dude is worth blowing up my own spot for.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Maybe here is somebody that I could actually tell the truth,
- 42:06Speaker 1: show what I know, and he could put it to
- 42:09Speaker 1: use to like help everybody else as well. But it
- 42:13Speaker 1: doesn't really appear that he was trying to hide who
- 42:15Speaker 1: he is. So I don't understand why it takes him
- 42:18Speaker 1: so long to bust this out because like, you know,
- 42:22Speaker 1: it's like five episodes in a row, six episodes in
- 42:24Speaker 1: a row of him just being like sort of on
- 42:30Speaker 1: the sidelines watching and wringing his hands in distress. Yeah.
- 42:36Speaker 1: I feel like, I don't know. I feel like I'm
- 42:38Speaker 1: either missing something or it's just, it doesn't make sense.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And it's just for the drama, but either way, We
- 42:46Speaker 1: have the introduction of the bear man and the armadillo man.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Dillo man. And forgive me, guys. I'm taking off my
- 42:56Speaker 1: wrist brace here because it is bothering me. So if
- 43:00Speaker 1: you hear that crunching of me, detaching the... What is
- 43:05Speaker 1: it called? Velcro. I'm sure it sounds crazy. But anyway,
- 43:13Speaker 1: the introduction of these guys, I had said... regarding one
- 43:19Speaker 1: of these guys, how like it, it seems to really
- 43:23Speaker 1: depend on the character. If they're going to go in super,
- 43:27Speaker 1: super hard with the puns, you know, in, in connection
- 43:33Speaker 1: with the animal that they are. And we had that
- 43:35Speaker 1: guy who was a crab man and there's tons of
- 43:38Speaker 1: like jokes about claws and butter and seafood and, you know,
- 43:45Speaker 1: all of this, but they don't all, have that sort
- 43:47Speaker 1: of thing going on and their man appears to really
- 43:54Speaker 1: be leaning into this shit pretty hard talking about how,
- 44:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm sure everything is quote unbearable. Um, and
- 44:05Speaker 1: he says, you know, I'm going to take a pause
- 44:10Speaker 1: or something, something with paw, you know, and, uh, I
- 44:14Speaker 1: think you all are very aware of, that I fully
- 44:17Speaker 1: approve of all of these weird puns when the characters
- 44:21Speaker 1: make them. I especially love when Brooke makes them. No,
- 44:25Speaker 1: no problems on that whatsoever either. Brooke's the best bar none. So,
- 44:30Speaker 1: you know, I can't compare these other nobodies to the
- 44:36Speaker 1: pure perfection of the delivery of Brooke's puns, but you know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: they're still bringing a little something. So that's fine. But yeah,
- 44:45Speaker 1: Luffy handles these guys here, like sends them flying initially.
- 44:53Speaker 1: The whole thing is that he keeps trying to get
- 44:56Speaker 1: Queen to fight him. And Queen, it's not entirely clear
- 45:03Speaker 1: whether Queen is just like, I'm not demeaning myself by
- 45:08Speaker 1: fighting you. Or if Queen is at this point beginning
- 45:12Speaker 1: to realize that maybe he would lose, like that Luffy
- 45:17Speaker 1: is doing enough here to maybe give him pause and
- 45:21Speaker 1: make him wonder, wait, would I actually? I can't quite tell.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I feel like the MO of most villains in this
- 45:32Speaker 1: series tends to be, even when they are shown the
- 45:36Speaker 1: exact same, evidence of how they are not going to
- 45:40Speaker 1: defeat anybody, they still somehow think they're going to be
- 45:45Speaker 1: the one to beat the person. Like every time there's
- 45:49Speaker 1: all these other folks that get laid the fuck out
- 45:51Speaker 1: and yet they never stop and think, oh, maybe I'll
- 45:55Speaker 1: get laid out. It's always, oh, you guys are just chumps.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I'll show you how it's done. So if we're going
- 46:02Speaker 1: on that MO, probably, Queen is just not wanting to
- 46:07Speaker 1: lower himself. That's my guess. Um, Seraphim. Oh, talking about Hyogoro.
- 46:14Speaker 1: He's mostly just been beaten down and accepted. He's weak
- 46:18Speaker 1: and helpless from the last 20 years of being essentially
- 46:20Speaker 1: a slave. Now Luffy is giving him hope and inspiring
- 46:26Speaker 1: him to not give up. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 46:32Speaker 1: All right. I accept that. Um, So that's like kind of,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, where things lay with Luffy. And I'm sure
- 46:44Speaker 1: next section, we're going to see him trying to do
- 46:48Speaker 1: what Hyogoro had just demonstrated. Unclear if it's the exact
- 46:53Speaker 1: same thing that Rayleigh was doing in Luffy's memories, you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: because he's trying to imitate something he saw Rayleigh do once.
- 47:00Speaker 1: So I'm curious if what Hyogoro displayed is like the
- 47:04Speaker 1: same exact technique or if they just have something similar that,
- 47:08Speaker 1: you know, we'll do for now. But either way, it
- 47:13Speaker 1: doesn't really matter. I'm just interested to see what Luffy
- 47:15Speaker 1: manages to do. Sorry, Florian says, hey, hey, daylight savings
- 47:20Speaker 1: got me fucked up. I'm so late. Yeah, I did
- 47:25Speaker 1: start late today. Florian. So, you know, I'll be going
- 47:29Speaker 1: for a little bit longer here because I started late,
- 47:31Speaker 1: but I am interested also like what Luffy, his different gears.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I'm sort of curious, is this the kind of ability hockey,
- 47:46Speaker 1: whether it's observation or armament for Luffy seems to work
- 47:52Speaker 1: the way that it works for everybody. You know, you
- 47:54Speaker 1: have to practice in order to use it. You have
- 47:57Speaker 1: to get really good at it and be able to
- 47:58Speaker 1: focus in. And it takes a lot of practice to
- 48:02Speaker 1: call it up and use it effectively whenever you want.
- 48:06Speaker 1: But it is functionally the same for everyone once they
- 48:11Speaker 1: manage to utilize it, as far as we have seen.
- 48:16Speaker 1: The gear one through four... has been specific to the
- 48:21Speaker 1: type of devil fruit that Luffy ate. And I don't
- 48:27Speaker 1: really know how that works because I don't recall if
- 48:31Speaker 1: we've ever met another character who uses that like gear one,
- 48:37Speaker 1: gear two system when they talk about their own, I
- 48:41Speaker 1: don't recall their own techniques and attacks. So what I'm
- 48:46Speaker 1: saying is I'm wondering if there's going to be a
- 48:48Speaker 1: point where Luffy takes some of the hockey powers that
- 48:53Speaker 1: he has learned and mixes them with the devil fruit
- 48:58Speaker 1: and comes up with something that's very specifically his own.
- 49:06Speaker 1: I feel like the fact that hockey has seemed to
- 49:09Speaker 1: work the same for everyone, it potentially... gives those who
- 49:16Speaker 1: have the ability, it makes them... too close an opponent
- 49:21Speaker 1: to you because they know what you're capable of and
- 49:24Speaker 1: they are also capable of it but if you've got
- 49:27Speaker 1: a twist on something that's yours and yours alone that
- 49:30Speaker 1: they wouldn't be prepared for or that works a different
- 49:32Speaker 1: way than normal hockey that's when you start to get
- 49:36Speaker 1: really interesting and maybe could surprise some people and get
- 49:39Speaker 1: around barriers that they have up or whatever. So I
- 49:43Speaker 1: don't know if that's a thing. I'm just curious to see. Um,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and you know, the gear stuff just began out of
- 49:49Speaker 1: nowhere kind of, and we never saw him developing that
- 49:52Speaker 1: or how all of that worked. So I don't know
- 49:55Speaker 1: if we're ever going to see it or if he's
- 49:57Speaker 1: just going to pop up with gear five at some point,
- 50:00Speaker 1: but just wanted to put that out there for now. Um, so, okay.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Then we're going to go over to, uh, We got
- 50:08Speaker 1: to check in with the rest of the crew, including
- 50:11Speaker 1: Shinobu and Law and Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Frankie, trying to think.
- 50:21Speaker 1: And of course, like we've got a bunch of the
- 50:25Speaker 1: OG Wano people, time traveler people. They're trying to all
- 50:29Speaker 1: figure out what, who it is that could have betrayed them.
- 50:35Speaker 1: And Shinobu is being pretty brutal here. I understand her thinking,
- 50:45Speaker 1: but the problem is that when you are somebody who
- 50:52Speaker 1: subscribes to that sort of thinking yourself, and when I
- 50:56Speaker 1: say that she's being pretty brutal, I am referring to
- 50:59Speaker 1: her essentially saying, hey, Law, your friends got captured. All
- 51:06Speaker 1: of this, shit that has come out has come out
- 51:10Speaker 1: since they got captured. I don't think it's hard to
- 51:13Speaker 1: put the pieces together and realize your friends caved and
- 51:17Speaker 1: told everything. And they are no longer your friends because
- 51:24Speaker 1: they betrayed you. You need to let them go and
- 51:28Speaker 1: move on with this plan without them. And we need
- 51:31Speaker 1: to change things up because they knew too much about it.
- 51:33Speaker 1: And you know, the, the enemy has them now. And
- 51:38Speaker 1: essentially is like, turn your back on them. They're not
- 51:42Speaker 1: your friends anymore. And when you are a person who
- 51:48Speaker 1: is as ruthless and cold-blooded as she obviously is, and
- 51:54Speaker 1: I want to put that in brackets, complimentary, that is
- 51:58Speaker 1: a valid take. But I feel like a person like
- 52:06Speaker 1: her is going to have lost touch. maybe because you
- 52:10Speaker 1: have grown so accustomed to seeing things this way, that
- 52:14Speaker 1: you don't realize what a difficult thing it is for
- 52:19Speaker 1: most people to do that. And so you're trying to
- 52:23Speaker 1: say this as if it's just a decision that he
- 52:25Speaker 1: can make. And most folks aren't going to be as
- 52:31Speaker 1: willing to turn their back on folks that were their
- 52:35Speaker 1: friend and colleague, kind of, for like years and years.
- 52:41Speaker 1: And so she's saying a thing that like kind of,
- 52:45Speaker 1: but you know, when you know something and you are
- 52:49Speaker 1: trying to share it with a person who doesn't really
- 52:51Speaker 1: get it, you have to meet them where they are
- 52:54Speaker 1: and like find a way to see, okay, mentally I
- 52:59Speaker 1: get that they are feeling this way. I'm going to
- 53:02Speaker 1: suggest something that I know they're going to hate. So
- 53:05Speaker 1: I have to find a way to sort of diplomatically
- 53:07Speaker 1: get us there. And she doesn't do that. She just
- 53:10Speaker 1: baldly is like, abandon your friends. And that's never going
- 53:14Speaker 1: to work, girly. It's never going to work. That's not
- 53:16Speaker 1: the approach. Now, I will say that I fucking love
- 53:22Speaker 1: the conversation between Nami and Usopp regarding what they would
- 53:27Speaker 1: say if they were being tortured for information and how
- 53:30Speaker 1: quickly they would give up everything that they were being asked.
- 53:35Speaker 1: I loved it so much because I say this all
- 53:37Speaker 1: the time. I am not the one to capture. Like if,
- 53:42Speaker 1: if I have your secret and I get captured, I'm
- 53:44Speaker 1: so sorry, but you just need to fully accept it's over.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Your secret is out there. I am not going to
- 53:53Speaker 1: withstand torture. I will not be able to do it.
- 53:56Speaker 1: I won't pretend it. And you just need to find
- 53:59Speaker 1: another way to get done. Whatever it was that you
- 54:01Speaker 1: were planning, because it's not happening. I have such a
- 54:05Speaker 1: low pain threshold. I can be such a baby. There
- 54:09Speaker 1: is no fucking way. And I love Usopp being like,
- 54:15Speaker 1: I think I might last like maybe three minutes. And
- 54:18Speaker 1: Nami is like, I would last maybe three seconds. And
- 54:23Speaker 1: I really liked that. It's not a moment of her
- 54:26Speaker 1: being judgy of him. And when he admits that, like,
- 54:30Speaker 1: because he's trying to be forgiving and, of Law's friends,
- 54:34Speaker 1: which by the way, it does not seem like they
- 54:36Speaker 1: are the ones who gave this info up. But he's
- 54:40Speaker 1: trying to be like, you know, even if they did,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I can't be mad at them because I fucking would.
- 54:47Speaker 1: And at first Nami's like, oh yeah, you're forgiving them
- 54:50Speaker 1: because that's what you would do. And, you know, she
- 54:53Speaker 1: sounds accusing in that moment. But when he's like, yeah,
- 54:58Speaker 1: then she immediately is like, yeah, me too. And so
- 55:01Speaker 1: it turns from a moment of feeling like, oh, is
- 55:03Speaker 1: she about to get real cranky with him about it
- 55:06Speaker 1: to camaraderie and just sort of like, well, you know,
- 55:10Speaker 1: because I really think that people will overestimate what they
- 55:17Speaker 1: can withstand sometimes. And of course, in this series, there's
- 55:22Speaker 1: a lot of folks who are capable of doing more
- 55:26Speaker 1: than the average human being could ever manage. So if
- 55:30Speaker 1: we were going to have them bluster, I wouldn't even
- 55:34Speaker 1: be as mad about it because like in the context
- 55:37Speaker 1: of the show, maybe Nami could withstand a bunch of
- 55:40Speaker 1: torture and it would just be that she's that contrary. And,
- 55:45Speaker 1: you know, but I really liked the fact that we
- 55:48Speaker 1: got real with it for a second and that it
- 55:50Speaker 1: was also, I'm willing to extend grace to these people and,
- 55:57Speaker 1: And I don't want to turn my back because they're
- 55:59Speaker 1: being put through something horrible, potentially. And they're trying to
- 56:03Speaker 1: stop whatever's happening to them. And I simply don't fault
- 56:08Speaker 1: them for that. But the thing that is interesting here
- 56:14Speaker 1: is the fact that Law really, really wants to go
- 56:21Speaker 1: handle and rescue his friends. And Shinobu is getting extremely
- 56:29Speaker 1: irritated with the fact that despite a good case being
- 56:34Speaker 1: made for why he can't just run out there and
- 56:36Speaker 1: do this, especially alone, that he just keeps like walking
- 56:40Speaker 1: away and turning around and acting like he's about to
- 56:43Speaker 1: head out there all alone. And he just does not
- 56:47Speaker 1: seem to be listening, you know? And I... like it's
- 56:56Speaker 1: the kind of thing that's really, if this were Luffy
- 57:01Speaker 1: instead of law, of course he's going out there and
- 57:05Speaker 1: of course he's doing it by himself because that's how
- 57:07Speaker 1: he fucking does what his friends are in trouble. He's
- 57:10Speaker 1: just going to do a thing, you know? However, there
- 57:13Speaker 1: have been times where he has admitted so-and-so is too strong.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I can't do it. I have to get stronger. It's never,
- 57:21Speaker 1: I can't do it. I give up. That's never it. But,
- 57:25Speaker 1: it is like, I am not going to be able
- 57:28Speaker 1: to do this right now. With, I will say that
- 57:36Speaker 1: I love the fact that Sanji gets his face smashed in,
- 57:41Speaker 1: by the way, for having gone into the bathhouse undercover. I,
- 57:46Speaker 1: it's so weird that he did this for the sake
- 57:48Speaker 1: of like, it was a co-ed bathhouse to begin with, but,
- 57:54Speaker 1: it makes me very happy that he, I think Frankie
- 57:57Speaker 1: says something like he's never seen a face so messed up,
- 58:01Speaker 1: you know? Um, so let's see, I'm trying to find
- 58:08Speaker 1: this moment here. Uh, what is the name of the
- 58:15Speaker 1: guy who was laughing that Zorro met that little old
- 58:19Speaker 1: dude who I thought was in on the thing at the,
- 58:22Speaker 1: the casino, uh, But he finds one of these flyers
- 58:28Speaker 1: like in an alley somewhere and he picks it up
- 58:34Speaker 1: and he goes and finds the crew and is just like, oh,
- 58:38Speaker 1: so is it going to be a battle? Are we
- 58:41Speaker 1: doing a rebellion? Like I'm in, by the way, if
- 58:44Speaker 1: that's what we're doing. Now I wanted to point out,
- 58:47Speaker 1: he finds this flyer in an alley and it takes
- 58:51Speaker 1: him approximately three seconds to suss out what it is saying.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I'm starting to wonder if maybe nobody has betrayed us,
- 59:01Speaker 1: and it's just kind of an obvious code. Maybe it's not.
- 59:07Speaker 1: There isn't somebody who... means us ill who has infiltrated
- 59:12Speaker 1: our group of friends maybe you just didn't come up
- 59:16Speaker 1: with something quite as clever and unbreakable as you thought
- 59:21Speaker 1: alternatively he's like wandering looking for them and once he
- 59:27Speaker 1: finds them he comes in And says something like, it's
- 59:31Speaker 1: quite the set of pipes you all have. Which, what
- 59:36Speaker 1: he's saying is, I could hear you guys out on
- 59:40Speaker 1: the street talking about this. Like, there's the other possibility now.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Maybe it's not even about the flyer at all. Maybe
- 59:49Speaker 1: they just fucking overheard you, somebody, and like went and
- 59:54Speaker 1: told you. Because evidently you guys are not on the
- 59:57Speaker 1: DL like I thought. It's embarrassing a little bit, the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: way that he is able to track them down simply
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: by listening for their voices. But yeah, the fact that
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: he is wanting to be part of this, knows how
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: to find them, and does so in such short order
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: has got me kind of thinking that maybe it's not
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: really a betrayal thing at all. Maybe that's not even
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: the issue here. Um, if so, I'll be delighted because
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: that will be kind of funny. I obviously wouldn't be
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: able to decode the flyer, but I'm not like the,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the person that what's the target audience. So yeah. Um,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: there is another thing here that I want to, Oh, Oh, Oh, right.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: We have a moment where Orochi is the name of
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the Shogun, right? He is grieving over Kimura Saki's death
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: in quotes. And we have a moment with the guy
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: that I had thought, excuse me, that I had thought
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the whole time, was the slasher, who it turns out isn't.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: He's just another sadistic maniac. We have him talking about
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: how he needed to kill Komurasaki in order to send
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: Orochi into fits of despair. That's on purpose. So it's
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: not even... circumstantial thing or like you know and it
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: did have me for a split second kind of being
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like is he in on things with Kimura Saki because
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: like disabling the Shogun in this way I could see
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: being something that she would want and approve of also
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: and But he seems so evil. I don't think that
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense. I'm assuming that he wants
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: to disable the Shogun so that he can take over,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: not because he's wanting to stage a rebellion for justice.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: It is interesting, though, that he was evidently right. Orochi
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: is down for the count. There's a bunch of courtiers
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: talking about how he hasn't been seen outside his rooms
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: since the day she died. Because he's just so wrecked
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: with grief. And the voice actor doing the sobbing is
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: doing a really good job. It's genuinely sad. I was
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: just like, oh, man, I hate this guy. And even
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I'm sort of like, oh, buddy, don't take it so hard.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: So yeah, that's an interesting like little hitch in things.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: And very interested to see what that maniac does when
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: he finds out that Murasaki isn't actually dead. And very
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: interesting to see if Orochi is still alive when that
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: reveal is made. And if so, I have to assume
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: the reveal will also be made who she really is.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: He might still wind up heartbroken because she wants nothing
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: to do with him, of course. But I will like
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: to see his reaction. I think that's about everything. Lena says,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I'm curious how she survived. And yeah, that's kind of
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: where I was coming from regarding thinking that guy was
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: in on it was like, did he, because there are
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: places that you can get stabbed that if you're very
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: precise about it, there's no major organ hit or artery
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: and you can survive it. You know, it's a precision thing,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: but that didn't seem to be the nature of the
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: attack that he performed. But, you know, like them working
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: together is the easiest answer on that level, too. So
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: it's part of why I haven't completely discounted it. I
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: just think it's less likely. But, yeah, very, very interested
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: to see. OK, I'm going to wrap up. Thank you
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: guys again so much for hanging out. Thank you for
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: bearing with me and looking forward to more. Until next time. Toodaloo, motherfuckers.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled network podcast.
