- 2:31Speaker 1: get into this man. Listen, Goodie Mob legendary hip hop group.
- 2:36Speaker 1: They haven't put an album out all together since twenty thirteen,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and that album in twenty thirteen was not a good one.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So they're back with organized noise behind the production, which
- 2:45Speaker 1: is the most exciting part of this for me. And
- 2:48Speaker 1: be able to talk to all four members at the
- 2:50Speaker 1: same time was dope. So let's get into this Goodie
- 2:53Speaker 1: Mob interview. It was recorded before the album came out.
- 2:55Speaker 1: The album's actually out right now, so go support that
- 2:59Speaker 1: and let's go man, brand new interview Boutleg Cab Podcast,
- 3:02Speaker 1: Episode number twenty seven. I think it's up with Goodie
- 3:05Speaker 1: Mob right here? Turn this up? All right? Well, look man,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Blueleg Cab Podcast Real ninety two to three. Honored to
- 3:13Speaker 1: have all of the members of Goodie Mob on the podcast. Now,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I gotta give y'all some context on what first you know.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm thirty three, So the first record I ever heard
- 3:26Speaker 1: of y'all's that made me just dive in was obviously
- 3:32Speaker 1: still standing. What was that night? Was that ninety eight
- 3:36Speaker 1: ninety seven You're right about my best friend Rams has
- 3:42Speaker 1: played me they don't dance, No Mo and ce Lo
- 3:46Speaker 1: your last verse on that record, my name is Look listen, man,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I heard your voice and your flow is so it
- 3:56Speaker 1: blew my whole fucking head off as a kid. Bro.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And and you know, from there, I had to go
- 4:02Speaker 1: back and tap in with the first album. But that
- 4:04Speaker 1: was my first taste of getting introduced to you guys.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So ninety eight ninety seven, I was like ten or
- 4:10Speaker 1: eleven years old. So, man, I've been a fan for
- 4:13Speaker 1: a very long time. And that's dope, man, Yeah, it's
- 4:17Speaker 1: dope to see all y'all back together, man, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and especially with the right production with Organized Noise, right,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, like, this is what I know.
- 4:30Speaker 1: You guys have been hearing all the fans harping at
- 4:33Speaker 1: you for so long to do this specific project, gounting
- 4:36Speaker 1: man back together with Organized Noise. Why was the timing
- 4:39Speaker 1: right in twenty twenty because of that fact right there?
- 4:43Speaker 1: It was it was resounding overwhelming, you know, insistent, consistent.
- 4:50Speaker 1: People always say they want the old thing back. Man,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we've man, take us back to the beginning, you know
- 4:56Speaker 1: what I mean, take us back to where it all started.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And then something you know, you know, in your travels,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know, you get so far away from home, man like,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, you know, you you forget to look back.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, you feel me love, and
- 5:08Speaker 1: sometimes people people forget how to go back. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 1: like other times people ain't even welcome to come back,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But you know that was
- 5:16Speaker 1: that wasn't the case with what none of us, you
- 5:18Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like you know, fortunately, man like,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you know, home is always what heart is, man like,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know, and you know, to come back to organize,
- 5:28Speaker 1: know as to have the original you know, first generation
- 5:31Speaker 1: that your family may the ones who you know who
- 5:34Speaker 1: who who built the pillars, better built and built the foundation,
- 5:37Speaker 1: man like, it's uh, it's incomfortable, you know what I'm saying.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Like and then also to have being and dre man like,
- 5:43Speaker 1: that's the original, well it fool and that's the original nine,
- 5:47Speaker 1: the magnificent nine. Man, you know right there, you know
- 5:50Speaker 1: what I mean. So it's crazy Man, what can I say? Man,
- 5:53Speaker 1: We're proud and exciting for people to get what we've got.
- 5:56Speaker 1: How long was the clue? How long? Like I guess,
- 6:00Speaker 1: when did the conception of this album start? How long
- 6:02Speaker 1: have you guys been working on this project? And I
- 6:04Speaker 1: know all of you guys are aware of how important
- 6:06Speaker 1: this is to Dungeon family fans, outcast fans, Goodie mob fans,
- 6:09Speaker 1: fans are real hip hop. So I'm sure you guys
- 6:12Speaker 1: took the time. When did y'all start first working on
- 6:14Speaker 1: this project? To be freal with you, we did this
- 6:19Speaker 1: project in the last five months. Okay, so this was
- 6:23Speaker 1: under quarantine. Yeah, this was under quarantine. Oh shit, Okay,
- 6:28Speaker 1: everything on this album is brand new. I mean, I
- 6:31Speaker 1: guess that makes sense. You know a lot of the
- 6:32Speaker 1: content that I heard, and then obviously the name of
- 6:34Speaker 1: the album, that would that makes sense? Yeah, so that
- 6:37Speaker 1: that does. Just lets you know, we once this quarantine hit,
- 6:41Speaker 1: we made a decision that we was gonna come together.
- 6:43Speaker 1: We got we got in a secret location on the
- 6:45Speaker 1: south side of Atlanta and once the Beat Star flowing,
- 6:48Speaker 1: the first record we recorded it was Survival Kit, the
- 6:51Speaker 1: one survival kit to the Avalanche. The Avalanche Ca. It
- 6:56Speaker 1: was just like we just kept going, We kept going.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So it is again November. There's a long time coming.
- 7:07Speaker 1: It's a it's a long time coming. Like you said,
- 7:11Speaker 1: uh ce Lo the original nine on the project. You know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: we've we've we've noticed how hard it is to get
- 7:19Speaker 1: an Andre versus fans over over x amount of years.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You know. We sometimes will get one a year and
- 7:26Speaker 1: just be super excited. It might pop up on a
- 7:28Speaker 1: Jeez album or a remix or something. It's only right
- 7:32Speaker 1: that he's on the new Goodie Mob album. But how how,
- 7:35Speaker 1: how how the Andre verse come to be? And like
- 7:37Speaker 1: was it was it difficult? I know it's not difficult
- 7:39Speaker 1: because you'll have a family, but like you know, that's
- 7:41Speaker 1: an important verse to have on a Goodie Mob album
- 7:43Speaker 1: with organized noise behind the production. Man, we won't even
- 7:48Speaker 1: speak about the difficulties or whatnot. I mean, like you know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: we were just only speak about the end result. I mean,
- 7:56Speaker 1: like you know, and the end result is the camaraderie,
- 7:59Speaker 1: the connection, you know, the respect, the dignity, the love,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean, like you know, the blood.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, like you know that we it's a it's
- 8:09Speaker 1: a family thing. You know what I mean, like, and
- 8:11Speaker 1: you know, we we embrace each other's in differences. Man,
- 8:14Speaker 1: That's that's part of what made us very special. Man,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Like you know, everybody's unique in their own right and
- 8:19Speaker 1: reserves the right you mean, like to be that you
- 8:22Speaker 1: mean like and voice that you mean like and so
- 8:25Speaker 1: like dreams one of those highly interitable people. Mean it's
- 8:28Speaker 1: an artist artist, you know what I mean. And I
- 8:30Speaker 1: also like to consider myself as such. But like since
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know, since we speaking of him, you know what
- 8:35Speaker 1: I mean, Like, you know, we've grown to grown to
- 8:38Speaker 1: just embrace the fact that man like something that he's
- 8:41Speaker 1: truly not into, you know what I mean, Like you
- 8:43Speaker 1: know he into it, and I've seen dog like just
- 8:47Speaker 1: just like you know, just for fun, I just tell you, man,
- 8:50Speaker 1: we see more turned down multi millions of dollars. Everybody
- 8:53Speaker 1: know that, you know what I'm saying. Like, we get
- 8:56Speaker 1: also abody to laugh at that because it's like yo,
- 8:58Speaker 1: like you know, and that way the ball was set.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So anything that he decaid that he don't listen to
- 9:04Speaker 1: want to do, who got no passion for it, you
- 9:06Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like, nobody couldn't really argue with
- 9:08Speaker 1: that because we don't see him turned out no. I
- 9:12Speaker 1: was so excited. You know, it's crazy because as a fan,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I was afraid that I was going to die without
- 9:18Speaker 1: ever seeing Outcasts perform in my life. And then a
- 9:21Speaker 1: few years ago they did that festival run and I
- 9:23Speaker 1: got to see them in Tampa and I was like,
- 9:25Speaker 1: all right, that's off the bucket list, you know, But
- 9:29Speaker 1: I feel like there's been so much energy that's led
- 9:31Speaker 1: up to your guys' moment here. I want to also
- 9:33Speaker 1: shut out. I feel like casts coming together for that
- 9:36Speaker 1: festival run, and then the importance of the documentary that
- 9:40Speaker 1: came out about Organized Noise. I think that also brought
- 9:43Speaker 1: a lot of awareness to just that whole wave of
- 9:47Speaker 1: of what you guys brought to the game. And then
- 9:50Speaker 1: now we're here and we have a new album, Survival Kit.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I want to go back to the early Dungeon Family days.
- 9:57Speaker 1: There's a couple of people who a lot of people
- 10:00Speaker 1: don't know or associate with Dungeon Family, and I want
- 10:03Speaker 1: to kind of get your guys with some contexts and
- 10:06Speaker 1: some takes on being around because I heard Usher was
- 10:09Speaker 1: a part of the Dungeon Family at least around y'all
- 10:12Speaker 1: super early, and the same thing with Future. Obviously Future
- 10:16Speaker 1: just got a tattooed on his arm. But but can
- 10:19Speaker 1: you guys kind of talk about like like being around them,
- 10:22Speaker 1: like Usher obviously was a kid from what I I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think I talked the big boy about it. But you know,
- 10:28Speaker 1: just the important historical context of what's come from your
- 10:31Speaker 1: guys's tree. We could throw Usher in that, we could
- 10:34Speaker 1: throw Future in that. What was it like being around
- 10:36Speaker 1: those guys before we all obviously you know, knew who
- 10:39Speaker 1: they were. Who got it was family, man, You know
- 10:47Speaker 1: what I'm saying. It wasn't really nothing exciting about being
- 10:49Speaker 1: abound none of who was excited because we loved each other,
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Nobody had really accomplished nothing
- 10:54Speaker 1: great in that particular time, So you know what I'm saying,
- 10:57Speaker 1: The magic was just just being around people that you love,
- 11:00Speaker 1: people that support you, and people that support you know
- 11:03Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And they were younger than us, little brothers.
- 11:06Speaker 1: They used to watch us, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:08Speaker 1: They used to come to the studio. I can remember
- 11:10Speaker 1: seeing you know, we used to call Future meet here
- 11:12Speaker 1: back in the day. I can remember the first time
- 11:15Speaker 1: he came to the studio. You know, Rico was like, yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: this is my little cousin. You know what I'm saying.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I met he was real cool, real real quiet guy,
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, soft spoken, one with a loud He liked
- 11:26Speaker 1: to learn, He liked to sit around and really peep
- 11:27Speaker 1: out of everything, and everything was working. And I can
- 11:30Speaker 1: remember popping in back in the day, like the Dungeon
- 11:33Speaker 1: was was always just an open door policy for all
- 11:36Speaker 1: of us. So I mean, you can go to the Dungeon.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Man at three in the morning, you know what I'm saying. Oh,
- 11:42Speaker 1: third in the morning. You know what I'm saying, somebody
- 11:44Speaker 1: gonna be up. You know what I'm saying. And it's
- 11:46Speaker 1: gonna be somebody kicking with talking to kicking for a
- 11:49Speaker 1: few minutes. And if you want to go home, you
- 11:50Speaker 1: can do that. You want to stay, you can stay,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I can remember coming in
- 11:54Speaker 1: and seeing Future just working in the studio. Just I'm like,
- 11:57Speaker 1: who is that? So like, man, that's me. Damn. You know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: he well working, you know, he putting it in. You know.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I could really just see his energy and his passion. Yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and it showed and it's still showing you know what
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm saying, he wonder he wanted the best in the
- 12:12Speaker 1: game right now. You know what I'm saying, period, hands down.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Can't nobody argue with that, you know what I mean.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And it's lovely to know, you know, we saw him grow,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and the good thing about it when we team this
- 12:23Speaker 1: day is still the love and respect there, you know
- 12:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying, because you know, he a real gentleman,
- 12:28Speaker 1: a real guy, you know, real Dunblon family member. And
- 12:30Speaker 1: then you know what I'm saying, that's how we rolled.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But yeah, man, Usher, I don't remember seeing him around there,
- 12:36Speaker 1: but I do remember seeing he wrote something on that
- 12:39Speaker 1: hot water hitter. He wrote Usher was trying to figure
- 12:41Speaker 1: out who was Usher? What was that? You know? I
- 12:44Speaker 1: never knew what that meant that I remember meeting him.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He was a little kid. Yeah, yeah, he was a
- 12:50Speaker 1: little He was a child, just like oh yeah, who
- 12:52Speaker 1: else came out from the under that you didn't know
- 12:54Speaker 1: about it? You ain't say nothing about that's mister Barbara Valentino. Okay.
- 13:00Speaker 1: They used to come over there all the time. Remember
- 13:02Speaker 1: they were little kids, you know what I mean, coming
- 13:04Speaker 1: over there. You know what I'm saying, sucking up game,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, getting tracks, you know what
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, learning, learning the ropes, learning how to move,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And Bobbit held on to it.
- 13:14Speaker 1: You know, I was closer to him because I knew
- 13:17Speaker 1: me and Koujoe and Gilt graduated from high school with
- 13:19Speaker 1: his older sister. So that's family. That's little Marcella to
- 13:23Speaker 1: the end, you know what I mean. So you know,
- 13:26Speaker 1: we all family, we all brothers, we all love each other,
- 13:28Speaker 1: we all support each other. Man. That's just how it
- 13:30Speaker 1: is right here around the Dungeon family. Man, I did. Wow,
- 13:36Speaker 1: it's a beautiful thing to see it. Man, it's a
- 13:38Speaker 1: beautiful thing. What was for you guys, Like when obviously
- 13:44Speaker 1: you say you got any of this ad? All right,
- 13:45Speaker 1: we got to make an album having organized noise handle
- 13:51Speaker 1: the production? Was that, like I'm assuming there was just
- 13:55Speaker 1: a mutual understanding that like, if we're gonna do this,
- 13:57Speaker 1: there's only one way we'll do it, and that's the
- 14:00Speaker 1: of them be behind the boards. Is that is? That was?
- 14:04Speaker 1: It was that that would have to be the easiest
- 14:06Speaker 1: decision I'm assuming with this project. Yeah at the time, Yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 1: go ahead, Joe. I mean, you can say something to
- 14:16Speaker 1: it just felt good. Not they had the big motherfuckers
- 14:19Speaker 1: for beats or big motherfuckers for tracks. You know what
- 14:23Speaker 1: I'm saying. I have to worry about, man, how much
- 14:26Speaker 1: I charge for a track? Sit just one hundred thousand,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Oh damn for real. So they felt good, Man, to
- 14:34Speaker 1: just go back in the ring, man with somebody we
- 14:37Speaker 1: were familiar with, Man, go ahead, yep, familiar with is
- 14:41Speaker 1: all the way. I think that that that brought the
- 14:44Speaker 1: comfort down for everybody. It really gave everybody in this
- 14:47Speaker 1: group a real chance to sit back and say, Okay,
- 14:51Speaker 1: what am I gonna do? What am I gonna bring
- 14:53Speaker 1: to this project. At the same time, you and they
- 14:56Speaker 1: were doing the same thing amongst them, you know, sleepy
- 15:00Speaker 1: and rat you know what I mean, like and like
- 15:03Speaker 1: even doing the app like on some song. Bro, we
- 15:06Speaker 1: got up to nine weeks on just one record, you
- 15:09Speaker 1: know what I mean. So that's how that's how diligent
- 15:12Speaker 1: they was going. That's how they was working on a
- 15:14Speaker 1: night and day, you know what I mean. So we
- 15:16Speaker 1: get this beautiful project. At the end, it's like, man,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I can't we can't wait till Friday. The thirteenth, so
- 15:21Speaker 1: people get hit the survival kick because we know it's
- 15:24Speaker 1: gonna be just like the rest of them. It's gonna
- 15:25Speaker 1: be a classic twenty five years from now. Yeah, you
- 15:30Speaker 1: guys have have classic in your I mean listen, man,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I listened to Soul Food still like it just came
- 15:37Speaker 1: out often. You know, you know it's it's it's a
- 15:40Speaker 1: timeless body of work, still standing, timeless body work. I'm curious, Celo,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I know that your solo success has been and shout
- 15:48Speaker 1: out to Get too. By the way, get the ship.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You drop a due for Gluta texts. Was my ship
- 15:53Speaker 1: Ali right? And get Yeah, yep, yep. But sel I
- 15:58Speaker 1: want to touch I know your solo success or ship
- 16:01Speaker 1: would obviously your solo your first solo project was crazy,
- 16:05Speaker 1: then n Als Barkley came out, was crazy, and you
- 16:07Speaker 1: were a superstar in your own right. How how like
- 16:12Speaker 1: is it dope to be able to introduce fans of
- 16:15Speaker 1: yours that might not be Goodie Mob fans to Goodie
- 16:19Speaker 1: Mob twenty five years later, Because there are fans of
- 16:21Speaker 1: yours that might not They might be just surface level
- 16:25Speaker 1: Selo fans, Then I might not like dig into the
- 16:27Speaker 1: fact that you came from Goodie Mob. How dope is
- 16:30Speaker 1: that to bring a bunch of new fans to the party.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Because my mom is a is a se Loo fan.
- 16:34Speaker 1: She don't know what the fuck Goodie Mob is, but
- 16:35Speaker 1: she knows who you are. You know what I'm saying,
- 16:37Speaker 1: right right? You know, I don't mind surface level Selo
- 16:40Speaker 1: Green fans, but I do mind superficial Selo Green fans.
- 16:44Speaker 1: You know what I mean. And that's a difference, you
- 16:45Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like the ones that are truly
- 16:48Speaker 1: aware of me, they are aware the root of you
- 16:50Speaker 1: know what I mean, like in the forge, the way
- 16:52Speaker 1: it comes from. You know what I mean, Like you
- 16:54Speaker 1: know why you know, why not why not followed me back?
- 16:57Speaker 1: Why why not trace me back to the beginning what
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like you feel me? So you know it's
- 17:05Speaker 1: not it's not a conflict of interest, not not not
- 17:08Speaker 1: to me, you know what I'm saying, like or anyone
- 17:10Speaker 1: for that matter. You know what I'm saying, like you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: like it's only weight to leverage with you know what
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'm saying, like you know, and weight weight distribution. You
- 17:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So you know I believe that personally,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I believe that you know, any any win you know
- 17:29Speaker 1: on this side of it, I mean, like it's a
- 17:31Speaker 1: win for everyone. So you know, I believe that Nol's
- 17:34Speaker 1: Barcoley see little Green, you know what I mean, Like,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and any success associated with it, you know, extends itself
- 17:40Speaker 1: from Dungeon family. So it's essentially and ultimately a Dungeon
- 17:44Speaker 1: family win. No different than when outcas it, like when
- 17:48Speaker 1: speak about flood be logo to to it's rather amal year.
- 17:54Speaker 1: How we got album of the Year. You know what
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm saying. That's that's how I look at it, you
- 17:59Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, And and that that that's it.
- 18:03Speaker 1: That's me trying to really keep that simple, you know
- 18:06Speaker 1: what I mean. But like, but no, man, it's it's
- 18:09Speaker 1: it's all relative and it's derivative of where something started
- 18:12Speaker 1: from a starting point, you know what I'm saying. So
- 18:15Speaker 1: you know, having the support system, having the success ratio
- 18:21Speaker 1: I mean, like, and the strength of the mob and
- 18:24Speaker 1: of the Dungeon family you know behind me. You know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I'm saying, like is what propelled me to those heights.
- 18:29Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, you know, even if
- 18:31Speaker 1: it was used as a barama of something I wanted
- 18:34Speaker 1: to do better or do more of, you know what
- 18:36Speaker 1: I'm saying, but all in an effort to represent you know,
- 18:41Speaker 1: not only my family saying like you know, but our city.
- 18:44Speaker 1: You know. I mean, like to the best of my
- 18:47Speaker 1: natural ability. You know what I mean, And so what
- 18:50Speaker 1: you hear is just the humility that that come along
- 18:53Speaker 1: with that. I mean, like, so like I wasn't I
- 18:55Speaker 1: ain't never really tripping and say you feel me, like
- 18:57Speaker 1: because my feet my feet in the dirt. Man, I
- 18:59Speaker 1: could the dirt. I'm just a I ain't an trip
- 19:03Speaker 1: off starter man. Like you know, I'm a tall tree,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, like or a tall and
- 19:08Speaker 1: even taller antilla. So I'm up there. Why pick up?
- 19:11Speaker 1: I pick up a signal, you know what I'm saying, like,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and I get the message and I transmit and transcend
- 19:16Speaker 1: and that's it. Hey, When I was coming up, man,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I remember as because I'm a I'm a diehard Outcast fan,
- 19:24Speaker 1: diehard Dungeon family fan. When when you guys all came
- 19:27Speaker 1: together for even in darkness, right, I thought that was
- 19:32Speaker 1: I mean, I'm even like I remember cool or Cool
- 19:35Speaker 1: Breeze is East boys finest album that watched for the
- 19:37Speaker 1: hook was my ship. I'm a huge Dungeon Family fan,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so when everybody got together and made even in Darkness,
- 19:43Speaker 1: it was crazy. Can you guys give me some like
- 19:46Speaker 1: a story or two about the making of the actual
- 19:48Speaker 1: Dungeon Family album, because I think that that album is
- 19:52Speaker 1: very slept on and doesn't get enough I don't hear
- 19:55Speaker 1: enough conversation of praise about how dope that project was.
- 19:59Speaker 1: That's a good example. And using Cool Breeze Eastports Gradies hit,
- 20:02Speaker 1: I mean, that's song watched with a hook man like
- 20:04Speaker 1: you know, that's when you know his project was launched
- 20:07Speaker 1: off the back of Organized Noise, you know, you know,
- 20:11Speaker 1: uh opening up the doors, you know, cutting the ribbon
- 20:15Speaker 1: on their new label, Organized Lowse Records. You know what
- 20:18Speaker 1: I mean, Like you know, uh Organized Noise, uh via Interscope,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So that was that was
- 20:26Speaker 1: a big look, you know what I mean. And so
- 20:27Speaker 1: we all came together, you know, like with the camaraderie,
- 20:30Speaker 1: with the teamwork to make that dream work. You mean,
- 20:33Speaker 1: like for the homie, you know what I mean. No
- 20:34Speaker 1: difference than he showed up for us when he coined
- 20:36Speaker 1: the phrase dirty South what I mean like and linded
- 20:39Speaker 1: that them saying you feel me to uh to to
- 20:41Speaker 1: Goodie Mob's debut album, So like you, I mean, like
- 20:44Speaker 1: you know the love is reciprocated, you know what I mean,
- 20:46Speaker 1: Like you feel me always acknowledge it where it's due,
- 20:49Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So you know, like you
- 20:51Speaker 1: want no egos and that and none of that kind
- 20:53Speaker 1: of shit. I mean, like the it was a homie
- 20:55Speaker 1: turn we we we we you know, we teamed up,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know it that sit up on the field with it,
- 21:02Speaker 1: That's what it was about. Yeah, But with the with
- 21:04Speaker 1: the even in Darkness album, what was that? Like, that's
- 21:08Speaker 1: that's a hard thing to pull everybody together, especially at
- 21:10Speaker 1: that point of everyone's careers because you guys are all
- 21:13Speaker 1: at that point in time, cast is fucking out of
- 21:16Speaker 1: here and then you got out of here and to
- 21:19Speaker 1: bring everyone together? What what? What? What was I'm assuming
- 21:22Speaker 1: that was it organized noise? It kind of quarterback the
- 21:25Speaker 1: greater process for that project? Like or what was it?
- 21:28Speaker 1: What was making that album? Like it was organized? No
- 21:32Speaker 1: because I mean we was both on tour, likes was
- 21:36Speaker 1: doing Smoking Gruves tour. I think Goodie Marble was out
- 21:39Speaker 1: with Uh. I think we just came off Fishbone in
- 21:43Speaker 1: Daylight Soul to oh Ship. So so it was it
- 21:47Speaker 1: was it was a real crazy time. So we was
- 21:50Speaker 1: doing the records in and out, coming in and out
- 21:52Speaker 1: of town, you know, like, so we didn't really get
- 21:55Speaker 1: to start to even do that do that album. We
- 21:58Speaker 1: didn't get the tour a lot because just our schedules. Man,
- 22:02Speaker 1: it was just we were just doing so much at
- 22:04Speaker 1: that time. I can imagine with this project, what uh
- 22:10Speaker 1: what what was the with the word survival kid? I mean,
- 22:14Speaker 1: like when I see that and labels don't support big
- 22:18Speaker 1: albums like that, Bro, why that stuff only happened every
- 22:20Speaker 1: so often? Not because they don't want to see something great,
- 22:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like you know, but because logistically,
- 22:26Speaker 1: projects like that are expensive to do. You know what
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's a lot of working parts, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 1: especially if everyone's on different labels, different labels and different
- 22:35Speaker 1: tax brackets and pay grades. That Yeah, it takes a
- 22:40Speaker 1: lot of humility from everyone involved, right Yeah. Yeah, because
- 22:46Speaker 1: like you said, there might be somebody who be like, yo, man,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I do it, but I need more than this person.
- 22:50Speaker 1: And it's like now we're not doing it for that.
- 22:51Speaker 1: We're doing it because about having more than that person.
- 22:54Speaker 1: It's about I need what I deserve, right, because you're
- 22:58Speaker 1: gonna turn to write back around and promote this to
- 23:01Speaker 1: my audience, some said, the audience that I've earned and
- 23:03Speaker 1: work for. So if you gonna send it back to them,
- 23:06Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, and you know, at
- 23:07Speaker 1: least give me yah, damn you know what I need. Shit,
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm curious, was there ever a record or any sort
- 23:21Speaker 1: of moment creatively that you guys as a group regret
- 23:24Speaker 1: looking back on on on your guys' career. I got
- 23:30Speaker 1: some I got. I'm gonna I'm gonna speak on this
- 23:34Speaker 1: shop since since I had, damn there everything to do
- 23:36Speaker 1: with it. You know, even though now we we come
- 23:39Speaker 1: in together and we talk about now, we laugh about
- 23:43Speaker 1: it now, But like I gotta say, another age of
- 23:45Speaker 1: Get Machine album, you know, it's some regretful parts on
- 23:48Speaker 1: there for me, man, because I think the ambition was
- 23:50Speaker 1: blind and man like, you know, we was in another
- 23:53Speaker 1: spectrum and spear man like, you know, an atmosphere around
- 23:57Speaker 1: that time and trying to correlate you know, I'm saying,
- 24:00Speaker 1: like core audience with commercial uppeal, you know, and so
- 24:04Speaker 1: on and so forth, and just trying to try to
- 24:06Speaker 1: pull it off. And that's that's me, man, Like you know,
- 24:08Speaker 1: I mean, like, you know, I think it was some
- 24:10Speaker 1: some different kind of malfunctions. And they're like songs like
- 24:13Speaker 1: Amy and My Very First White Girl, and you know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: people people like, oh my god, what it's good. Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 1: it's funny because I felt that as a fan, was
- 24:22Speaker 1: gonna say. I know that. That's why I'm being honest
- 24:24Speaker 1: with you. I'm being transparent because we've got to people.
- 24:27Speaker 1: That's a real conversation that we had. But you know what,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you guys have tried this before in twenty thirteen. You
- 24:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and you know what I'm saying.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Check it out. So it's like Bill and Mom always
- 24:38Speaker 1: been controversial, you know and dangerous something like you know,
- 24:43Speaker 1: like the South's most dangerous group is I like to,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you know, look at it. So with that, I felt
- 24:49Speaker 1: like it lent itself to you know, a larger conversation.
- 24:53Speaker 1: But it was supposed to be shock value, controversy, blah
- 24:56Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah, but instead of that, it just
- 24:59Speaker 1: ended up just being a connect I mean, like and disappointment,
- 25:02Speaker 1: like you know, because you know we might even have
- 25:04Speaker 1: to we might didn't have to reach that far. Sometimes
- 25:07Speaker 1: sometimes you want to reach to to uh you know
- 25:09Speaker 1: what I mean, like to to graph you know. Uh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: what you feel like is what you feel is when
- 25:14Speaker 1: you're in your reach. But sometimes you stretch yourself to thin,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And I will say that
- 25:20Speaker 1: I can be honest in saying that in retrospect. But
- 25:22Speaker 1: then there were some moments I think people also maybe
- 25:25Speaker 1: listen back to that project now, especially especially after we
- 25:29Speaker 1: nail it with this project. I think people are uh
- 25:32Speaker 1: listen back to that and be like, Okay, I can
- 25:34Speaker 1: appreciate it more and and see it in a different
- 25:36Speaker 1: light for what they were trying to do in that
- 25:38Speaker 1: time period. What I'm saying, you feel me, but like
- 25:41Speaker 1: the missing link of that album was the cohesive uh
- 25:45Speaker 1: sonic uh you know SOUNDBD you know, and just and
- 25:49Speaker 1: just the energy you know, and the affection of organized noise.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah. If you if you do something back
- 25:56Speaker 1: befault and everybody not not you know, you can't have
- 25:59Speaker 1: you can't expect me might have to halfway support you, man, Like,
- 26:02Speaker 1: don't never ask nobody to stratle fit for you man,
- 26:05Speaker 1: like never no neutrals with us may either paup or drive.
- 26:08Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, right, I think it's safe
- 26:11Speaker 1: to say, like, the people who are screaming they want
- 26:14Speaker 1: a Goodiemole album in twenty twenty are the people who
- 26:17Speaker 1: want y'all to work with organized boys. They're the people
- 26:19Speaker 1: who like, they're like, yo, you know, I think that
- 26:22Speaker 1: there's something to be said about I just listened to
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys heard the new Bust
- 26:25Speaker 1: of Rhymes album. Yeah, yeah, great album, right, But I
- 26:30Speaker 1: heard his album and I was like, yo, but Buster
- 26:33Speaker 1: did not like Busted. He took his time on the album.
- 26:37Speaker 1: But what he did was he made an album that
- 26:40Speaker 1: he knew his core diehard fans would appreciate in twenty twenty, right,
- 26:46Speaker 1: And I feel like when I when this and that
- 26:48Speaker 1: album got announced, I was just so excited. Man. I
- 26:51Speaker 1: was excited because if it would have been announced without
- 26:53Speaker 1: organized nos, I would have checked it out. But I
- 26:55Speaker 1: was like, Okay, sonically, this is gonna be something cohesaid,
- 26:58Speaker 1: this is gonna bring back you know, this is and
- 27:01Speaker 1: and and and maybe the gift in the Curse of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the pandemic. You know, we're getting a lot of great
- 27:05Speaker 1: music out of this pandemic. Hey, yo, gift Joe Mo.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Did I say anything wrong about that? Oh? No, that
- 27:11Speaker 1: was man. I mean I loved I loved the Age
- 27:16Speaker 1: Gainst Machine. I mean, you know what I'm saying. I
- 27:18Speaker 1: mean a few song choices. Like you said, I mean,
- 27:21Speaker 1: we could have we could have did something else, but
- 27:24Speaker 1: for me, it was two songs for me that I wish, Like, damn,
- 27:28Speaker 1: I wish I had a guy, and it was Dirty
- 27:31Speaker 1: South and Black Ice, right, And we tried to do
- 27:36Speaker 1: remixes for him, but they was not the same, right
- 27:39Speaker 1: you feel what I'm saying, Like, like we tried to
- 27:42Speaker 1: do the remix with with Mystical with uh it was
- 27:45Speaker 1: the Dirty South remix with and then we did I
- 27:50Speaker 1: forgot who produced the Black Ice remix. I think DJ
- 27:55Speaker 1: was still the same, wasn't it. Yeah? Okay, okay, okay,
- 27:58Speaker 1: but yeah, those are the two songs that I like,
- 28:02Speaker 1: Damn mother said to get on them songs right now.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You know, black Eyes obviously is a record that like
- 28:07Speaker 1: you know, this is like that shit just needs to
- 28:09Speaker 1: just be left alone, you know what I'm saying. Oh,
- 28:14Speaker 1: We're breaking down this video. We're not breaking it down.

- 29:22Speaker 1: you guys also went through this weird era of your
- 29:24Speaker 1: career where the one Monkey Don't Stop the Show album
- 29:26Speaker 1: came out. Obviously that was the album that Celo was
- 29:29Speaker 1: not part of. How hard was it for you guys
- 29:31Speaker 1: to get through some of the bumps in your guys's relationships.
- 29:36Speaker 1: You know that that that that you know may or
- 29:38Speaker 1: may not have been public the how I think, like,
- 29:40Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the day, you guys,
- 29:42Speaker 1: we're here in twenty twenty. You guys did an album
- 29:45Speaker 1: after that, but like that specific just era of your guys'
- 29:48Speaker 1: relationship in the group. And at that point in time,
- 29:50Speaker 1: I think, Celo, you're on your second solo album by then.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I think, so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, right, So what
- 29:57Speaker 1: what was that era like? Because at that time, hey, man,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'm just saying, bro and look good the Sino Greens
- 30:05Speaker 1: perfect imperfection. That's my ship's point. When you dropped that
- 30:10Speaker 1: ship and oh too, I was like, this ship did
- 30:12Speaker 1: not just this is what I wanted from a Sino
- 30:14Speaker 1: while it was man, I appreciate that, but you want
- 30:19Speaker 1: to take that with Joe Gift. Come on, man, somebody
- 30:21Speaker 1: speak that. Yeah, yeah shit, I mean, like I said,
- 30:25Speaker 1: all of us, all of us grew up together, you
- 30:27Speaker 1: know what I mean. So it wasn't nothing malicious to with,
- 30:30Speaker 1: like shit, when I see that nigga, it's on on
- 30:33Speaker 1: site type ship, So it ain't it was. It wasn't
- 30:36Speaker 1: never like that, you know what I mean. So it
- 30:38Speaker 1: was just us being finding another way to communicate, you
- 30:42Speaker 1: know what I'm saying with our fans, even though you
- 30:44Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. We had we had all little
- 30:46Speaker 1: brother with us, you know what I mean. But it
- 30:48Speaker 1: was much since I remember seeing Selo. I didn't got
- 30:52Speaker 1: THEMN Denmark. One day, you know what I'm saying. We
- 30:54Speaker 1: was in a festival somewhere. We were just I was
- 30:57Speaker 1: walking around, man, and I forgot what year was that
- 30:59Speaker 1: though you rememb when you're the one that was that
- 31:03Speaker 1: was that was that's like hold on, that's that's like
- 31:08Speaker 1: six that and when that one one album come out?
- 31:12Speaker 1: When that come out right, oh four oh foe. So
- 31:17Speaker 1: we were still working and everything. Man. I just happened
- 31:20Speaker 1: to see Selo out and gotten there a whole nother
- 31:22Speaker 1: country man and Denmark man. We was just like like,
- 31:26Speaker 1: damn man, what's up? A little bro like man? See
- 31:28Speaker 1: your man? Man? It was instant love man. So I
- 31:31Speaker 1: still remember what you had on your white dicky short
- 31:35Speaker 1: set was with a green shirt up front. It what
- 31:39Speaker 1: you were that one white who knows what you'all were
- 31:41Speaker 1: wearing because there was a mind frame staatele Get was
- 31:44Speaker 1: wearing some wild ship and see what he was wearing
- 31:46Speaker 1: wild ship? I mean it was I'm gonna tell you
- 31:50Speaker 1: where that came from. I could probably answer that to
- 31:52Speaker 1: you because you started a lot of this ship. Man.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I was gonna say that was my next question, how
- 31:57Speaker 1: much of this ship to get star when it comes
- 31:59Speaker 1: to the why, because I feel like he don't get
- 32:01Speaker 1: enough praise when it comes to you don't introduce a
- 32:05Speaker 1: lot of that wild fashion ship into the game. What
- 32:09Speaker 1: what I'm gonna let he gonna speak for something I
- 32:11Speaker 1: can want to speak on, you know, just say this
- 32:12Speaker 1: because you know within our round, he was definitely you
- 32:15Speaker 1: know what I mean, like doing it, you know the
- 32:17Speaker 1: first like even before I even really knew Gift, I
- 32:20Speaker 1: knew up Gift and guilt had really kind of made
- 32:23Speaker 1: a name for himself from kind of going against the
- 32:25Speaker 1: graind So everybody went gold, get more seal, you know
- 32:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And that's how I knew him, like
- 32:31Speaker 1: I had been introduced to or he had been spoken of,
- 32:36Speaker 1: Like I'm like, you know, you know, give me a seal.
- 32:40Speaker 1: So you can just tell that was you know, that
- 32:45Speaker 1: was like a call and car. That was a trademark,
- 32:47Speaker 1: like apparently it was noticeable and ship in that time,
- 32:50Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But you know, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: the big homies a little older than me, so I
- 32:54Speaker 1: would only hear about certain stuff. But so Gil was
- 32:57Speaker 1: definitely making a mark even in high school, was just
- 32:59Speaker 1: going are away with it, you know what I mean.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Like he's definitely embellished on that within the group, you
- 33:04Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like you know, and then in
- 33:06Speaker 1: an extension of that, everybody had some of the shit
- 33:09Speaker 1: in them, you know what I'm saying, Like you know,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and especially when George Clinton christened us the Young parliament forkadelic,
- 33:15Speaker 1: you know what I mean, like, which basically gave us
- 33:18Speaker 1: a license to ill. You know what I'm saying, Like
- 33:21Speaker 1: we can do anything we want to just do, you
- 33:24Speaker 1: know what I mean like and and the god Mothers say,
- 33:27Speaker 1: it's okay, right, were snapped. You know what I'm saying.
- 33:30Speaker 1: You feel me like, We're definitely snappy. I just want
- 33:33Speaker 1: to what so double Body, because we all we all
- 33:37Speaker 1: goody googles. You know what I'm saying. You feel me
- 33:39Speaker 1: like all sweet niggas, all real you know what I mean,
- 33:42Speaker 1: Like if we could defend our right to be different
- 33:45Speaker 1: in the drop of a dime. You know what I'm saying.
- 33:48Speaker 1: You feel me So it was no different than Africa
- 33:51Speaker 1: Body and the Soul suning for us being the Black
- 33:53Speaker 1: Spades before they christened themselves. You know Africa about Zulu Nation,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you know I mean, like so when they was wearing
- 34:01Speaker 1: them costuming back then, It's like imagine being in the
- 34:03Speaker 1: middle of the burnt down Bronx with them fucking God
- 34:06Speaker 1: damn them roll, you know what I'm saying. Like so
- 34:08Speaker 1: it was probably the same kind of effect, That's what
- 34:10Speaker 1: I'm liking it towards. And they got away with it.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And I knew they was. They was thorough because I
- 34:15Speaker 1: knew the backstory. So anybody from Atlanta, they knew what
- 34:18Speaker 1: our backstory was, and they knew we could defend it.
- 34:20Speaker 1: They're like, what sh had? Man, we just got to
- 34:22Speaker 1: catch up to these niggas because they are some they
- 34:24Speaker 1: on some extraterrestrial art form type shit. And hey, man,
- 34:27Speaker 1: we ain't gonna say nothing. We can't say nothing about it,
- 34:29Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. You feel me like, because
- 34:31Speaker 1: we want we were. It was interesting, it was intriguing,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and people wanted to understand what the expression was about.
- 34:38Speaker 1: But it was just the rights of passage to be
- 34:41Speaker 1: you know, just the individuals that we were, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: I mean like we we fought for that, you know
- 34:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Like, and it was an easy win too,
- 34:48Speaker 1: because like we broke, we had nuts. Man, what I'm
- 34:51Speaker 1: saying like nuts, I knew for a fact. I'm like, man, shit,
- 34:55Speaker 1: Like what the fuck? Somebody gonna tell us what we
- 34:59Speaker 1: can't do? You know what I'm saying, Like, Man, we laugh,
- 35:01Speaker 1: we might even laugh for we get mad. You know
- 35:03Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You being like, but I got to
- 35:05Speaker 1: tell you in thirty years, man, like, ain't nobody never
- 35:08Speaker 1: disrespected us, bro I don't want a way bress man like,
- 35:10Speaker 1: nobody listen, you are silver or is it gold? You?
- 35:14Speaker 1: You were just a gold you when you went to
- 35:16Speaker 1: that award show you was right when your whole head
- 35:18Speaker 1: was gold and all gold that you win has the award.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I went, So, you know what I'm saying, like, it's
- 35:28Speaker 1: all fun, it's all exhibitionism, passion tree, you know what
- 35:32Speaker 1: I'm saying Like, it's definitely just being brave enough to
- 35:35Speaker 1: be yourself, going against the odds, being different, being definitive,
- 35:38Speaker 1: being distinguishable, you know, setting yourself apart, and it takes
- 35:42Speaker 1: you take heart and soul to be yourself because the
- 35:45Speaker 1: main identity crisis that most people in society go through
- 35:53Speaker 1: is not wanting to be alone. That's painful. Some people
- 35:57Speaker 1: don't want Some people they they they sacrifice being an
- 36:01Speaker 1: individual for the sake of not having to be alone,
- 36:04Speaker 1: for the safe of being accepted by the by by people.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You know, that's some real shit. That's really I mean,
- 36:13Speaker 1: I feel like another thing. In the beginning, bro, it
- 36:18Speaker 1: was just I just realized that our dialect was different.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I realized that the way we performed was different. And
- 36:28Speaker 1: I came up with I came up with in my
- 36:30Speaker 1: own here, and I was like, man, if they if
- 36:32Speaker 1: they don't remember nothing we said, they gonna remember what
- 36:34Speaker 1: I looked like. I just I remember we did we
- 36:39Speaker 1: did a music conference in Nashville, and that was the
- 36:43Speaker 1: first time I did it. And I mixed this these
- 36:47Speaker 1: short sets with this green alligator overall set, and I
- 36:53Speaker 1: remember seeing it was us and bad Boy, and I
- 36:58Speaker 1: just remember seeing how they looked didn't be like wow,
- 37:01Speaker 1: like look like he looked wild. But at the same time,
- 37:07Speaker 1: I knew that that was something that I had to
- 37:10Speaker 1: continue to do, so I just start expounding on it.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I just came back home and I just started going
- 37:14Speaker 1: to fabric stores and I just start I just started
- 37:17Speaker 1: testing things out. I just started going to Magic City
- 37:20Speaker 1: and Monkey her Pants and just standing in there with
- 37:23Speaker 1: all the girls in the strippers and the dope boys
- 37:26Speaker 1: and just seeing how they react to it. And once
- 37:28Speaker 1: I just started doing that, walking in there with Lime
- 37:31Speaker 1: Green all the way to the floor, jackets On and
- 37:34Speaker 1: the dope boys, They're being like, oh, that's just guilt.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I was like, I got him. Now I can do it.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I can I can do it all the time. All right, Look,
