- 0:08Speaker 1: lineups instantly. Sports Talk, Jay on with us. Finally, game
- 0:11Speaker 1: week for the Tennessee Volunteers. We'll talk about them a
- 0:14Speaker 1: little bit. We'll talk about your best friend Lane Kiffin
- 0:17Speaker 1: down at LSU and see what else we can get
- 0:20Speaker 1: into for about 10 or 15 minutes here today. Jay,
- 0:24Speaker 1: it's not a massive opponent week one. you play a
- 0:28Speaker 1: tougher opponent week two, but are there specific things that
- 0:32Speaker 1: you want to see or how do you, how do
- 0:33Speaker 1: you kind of grade a, a game where you do
- 0:36Speaker 1: have a significant talent advantage? What do you want to
- 0:39Speaker 1: see in this game other than Tennessee win by 30
- 0:42Speaker 1: or 40, which they likely will?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Uh, obviously phase on Brandon. We want to see how
- 0:46Speaker 2: he performs in his very first game as a true freshman,
- 0:49Speaker 2: which is very rare to have a true freshman start
- 0:53Speaker 2: in the sec or any big time league. So, uh,
- 0:57Speaker 2: that interests me a ton. I want to see the
- 0:58Speaker 2: new Jim Knowles defense. We're already banged up on defense.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We'll see how they get to the quarterback. Are they
- 1:05Speaker 2: going to be able to get a good rush against a,
- 1:09Speaker 2: you know, a much smaller club? I expect them to
- 1:12Speaker 2: be able to, I expect domination. If Furman's not a
- 1:15Speaker 2: bad school, but I mean, they're not gonna be able
- 1:17Speaker 2: to compete. So I expect at least a 30 point victory,
- 1:22Speaker 2: anything less than that. If it's like, if, if it's
- 1:24Speaker 2: that FSU type game, I'm going to be distraught because I,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm worried about our defense and I want to see
- 1:30Speaker 2: them go out there and push around a team. They
- 1:32Speaker 2: should be able to do.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I think the, uh, I listen as a fan of
- 1:38Speaker 1: a team that just took on a really bad team
- 1:40Speaker 1: last week. Now I think Furman's worse than New Mexico state,
- 1:43Speaker 1: but as a fan of a team that just took
- 1:45Speaker 1: on a really bad team last week.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'm in the same boat. I need to see Tennessee
- 1:49Speaker 1: not mess around. I maybe FSU struggles were just a
- 1:52Speaker 1: week zero and, We'll play better on Monday night when
- 1:56Speaker 1: SMU comes to town. I doubt it. But, yeah, if
- 1:58Speaker 1: you're Tennessee, man, like the worst thing you want to
- 2:00Speaker 1: see with a tough Georgia Tech and then a tough
- 2:02Speaker 1: Texas in a few weeks is messing around with a
- 2:05Speaker 1: bad Furman. Not a bad. I don't mean to call
- 2:07Speaker 1: them bad, but just an inferior Furman team. I'm interested
- 2:10Speaker 1: to see how much they really open things up for Brandon.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Or do they, because I think on one hand, if
- 2:14Speaker 1: you're Hypel, you certainly want to get him as many
- 2:17Speaker 1: reps and looks and different things against live bullets that
- 2:20Speaker 1: are not your own team. But at the same time,
- 2:22Speaker 1: how much do you maybe keep back because you do
- 2:24Speaker 1: have that Georgia Tech game next week? I think that's
- 2:27Speaker 1: a really interesting thing that Josh has to figure out
- 2:29Speaker 1: in this.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll probably start him out with a lot of
- 2:32Speaker 2: bubble screens and things like that, the easy throws. and
- 2:36Speaker 2: just kind of get him comfortable. That's certainly how I
- 2:38Speaker 2: would– you know, we love a bubble screen at Tennessee.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It's basically our running attack in many respects. They love
- 2:44Speaker 2: just throwing it out there on a beeline. And, of course,
- 2:48Speaker 2: we run the ball really well, and I don't think
- 2:50Speaker 2: we'll have too much trouble there. He'll probably start out
- 2:53Speaker 2: rushing the ball. Just kind of getting– and have him
- 2:56Speaker 2: run once or twice. You know, sometimes you need to
- 2:58Speaker 2: get hit in a real game to kind of get
- 3:00Speaker 2: your juices flowing and feeling the game. I expect him
- 3:03Speaker 2: to run the ball probably five or six times. He's
- 3:06Speaker 2: a fleet-footed big dude. I mean, he could be special
- 3:11Speaker 2: running the ball. He really could because it's going to
- 3:13Speaker 2: be super tough to ignore our running backs and then
- 3:17Speaker 2: focus on him because you've got to pick your poison.
- 3:21Speaker 2: This is not Nico or Joey or Joe. This is
- 3:26Speaker 2: a guy that's got special physical skills that those guys
- 3:31Speaker 2: kind of didn't. And when it comes to running, now,
- 3:34Speaker 2: Joey had a great arm. But, yeah, he's just going
- 3:38Speaker 2: to kind of get him acclimated, I think.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm very intrigued to see what Georgia Tech looks like.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm thankful to God that we have football back on
- 3:48Speaker 1: Thursday night. But I'm excited to see what Georgia Tech
- 3:49Speaker 1: looks like before we even get to Saturday in the
- 3:52Speaker 1: fact that, yeah, Colorado I don't think is a great
- 3:55Speaker 1: Big 12 team. I know that they've fallen off a
- 3:57Speaker 1: little bit from the Hunter and Sanders side. hype of
- 3:59Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, but I think we'll learn
- 4:02Speaker 1: a little bit more about Georgia tech than we will
- 4:04Speaker 1: about Tennessee playing Furman versus, you know, Colorado. And so
- 4:07Speaker 1: Tennessee's next opponent, which not to get too far ahead
- 4:10Speaker 1: of Furman, I'm excited to see what they look like
- 4:12Speaker 1: because they come out and I don't think they will,
- 4:15Speaker 1: but blow the doors off Colorado. I think your spidey
- 4:18Speaker 1: senses maybe get heightened a little bit for that week
- 4:20Speaker 1: to match up. If they struggle with a new coordinator,
- 4:23Speaker 1: a new quarterback, a lot of new offensive pieces, Maybe
- 4:26Speaker 1: you think a little bit differently about Georgia Tech. Maybe
- 4:28Speaker 1: that's kind of where you have them slotted anyway. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: I think we learned a lot this weekend about both teams.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Georgia Tech, I do not take them lightly. That's
- 4:36Speaker 2: a team that if you try to look past them,
- 4:40Speaker 2: they'll punch you right in the mouth.
- 4:41Speaker 1: They will.
- 4:42Speaker 2: They're going to try to run the ball down our throat.
- 4:44Speaker 2: That concerns me because we've had some issues with our
- 4:47Speaker 2: defensive linemen, injuries and such. And we didn't stop the
- 4:51Speaker 2: run very well last year, which is the first time
- 4:52Speaker 2: in the last five years we haven't. And it's just,
- 4:56Speaker 2: I don't know. There's a lot of question marks on
- 4:58Speaker 2: the defense. Offense, I feel good about. The only question
- 5:01Speaker 2: mark there is having a freshman. Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Justice Haynes comes in from Michigan, from Bama before that.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Really talented running back, and you know they're going to
- 5:09Speaker 1: want to run the ball. We'll talk about Lane for
- 5:11Speaker 1: a few minutes, but the LSU-Clemson game this weekend, with
- 5:15Speaker 1: all the chaos going on, I mean, you know what
- 5:19Speaker 1: the narrative is going to be. If they're not able
- 5:21Speaker 1: to win, or even if they just look bad winning, ultimately,
- 5:25Speaker 1: if you beat Clemson, I think Doesn't really matter how
- 5:27Speaker 1: you look. You just got to pick up wins when
- 5:29Speaker 1: you have a nine-game SEC schedule coming up shortly after.
- 5:33Speaker 1: But if they don't win, one, you know what the
- 5:37Speaker 1: narrative is going to be. Two, does that force Lane
- 5:40Speaker 1: to push even harder to get his guys from, I
- 5:43Speaker 1: say his guys, to get the NFL guys on rosters
- 5:46Speaker 1: to help for that nine-game slate?
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, I expect some of them to play. I think
- 5:51Speaker 2: he'll get that injunction Thursday. Typically, if you give a TRO,
- 5:54Speaker 2: you end up getting the injunction. which may be a
- 5:57Speaker 2: little bit more permanent, and then he'll have the opportunity,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I think, penalty-free of playing those players because you've got
- 6:04Speaker 2: the injunction. I mean, it's really hard to penalize somebody
- 6:07Speaker 2: when a judge has said you can do it. So,
- 6:10Speaker 2: you know, yeah, if he lost to Clemson, it'd be okay.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You took your eye off the ball, and you weren't focused,
- 6:15Speaker 2: and you're too busy doing Dr. Pepper commercials and not
- 6:18Speaker 2: worrying about the team and all that kind of stuff.
- 6:21Speaker 2: If he wins and wins easy... then everybody's going to
- 6:24Speaker 2: think he's great down there, and they'll all get behind
- 6:26Speaker 2: him and get on the boat and all that. So LSU,
- 6:30Speaker 2: they want a W all the time. There are plenty
- 6:35Speaker 2: of nine-win coaches that have been fired at LSU. So
- 6:39Speaker 2: you've got to win. He has two goals this year,
- 6:42Speaker 2: playoff natty. That's it, two. And he's going to spend
- 6:45Speaker 2: every dollar of somebody else's money to get it.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Do you just thoughts around that matchup? I mean, I
- 6:52Speaker 1: don't mean to make you say good things about Lane here,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but obviously really good offensively. But do you think that
- 7:00Speaker 1: offense can get to clicking quickly in game one against
- 7:04Speaker 1: a talented Clemson defense? Or do you think they start
- 7:06Speaker 1: a little slow? Like, what are your thoughts around what
- 7:08Speaker 1: you'll actually see from them?
- 7:10Speaker 2: You know, I don't really have a problem saying positive
- 7:13Speaker 2: things about Lane's offense because it's really good. He's a
- 7:17Speaker 2: good coach. If he'd quit all the shenanigans on the sidelines,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I'll call it a sideline, he'd be fine. He's an
- 7:25Speaker 2: excellent offensive-minded coach, and Sam Levitt was a great pickup.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That guy is good. He's going to make some people
- 7:36Speaker 2: cry this year, and I hope I'm not one of
- 7:37Speaker 2: them because I'm telling you the guy can play. If
- 7:40Speaker 2: his foot's good, he's not one you want to mess with.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I think he's a terrific athlete. Him and Lane will
- 7:49Speaker 2: be something else. It could be maybe they make the playoff.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Who knows? It's just whether all this sideline stuff starts
- 7:57Speaker 2: creating problems.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I think they do have the talent to make the playoff.
- 8:02Speaker 1: They have a tough road. First month of the season,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Clemson at Ole Miss and home against Texas A & M.
- 8:08Speaker 1: That's a tough, I mean, that's a tough September. That's
- 8:10Speaker 1: as tough as September as anybody's got in this sport.
- 8:12Speaker 1: If they survive that, I think they go to the playoff.
- 8:15Speaker 1: If they get out of that four and Oh, certainly
- 8:17Speaker 1: three and one, maybe, um, two and two there is
- 8:20Speaker 1: where it gets in trouble. Are you picking LSU to win?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Um, yeah, I am, but I will tell you this.
- 8:25Speaker 2: If they get, if they go 10 and two, I
- 8:28Speaker 2: think the college football playoff will kick them out because
- 8:31Speaker 2: of the players. Yeah. Yeah. Because of the NFL player,
- 8:33Speaker 2: they're basically discussing it. Yeah. And I, I could see
- 8:37Speaker 2: them doing something kind of sneaky like that. They didn't
- 8:40Speaker 2: have any problem doing it to Vanderbilt.
- 8:42Speaker 1: They didn't have any problem doing it to Florida State.
- 8:43Speaker 2: They did it to Notre Dame.
- 8:44Speaker 1: They did it to FSU at 13-0.
- 8:46Speaker 2: They did it to FSU at 13-0.
- 8:49Speaker 1: They'll do whatever the heck they want. Nobody's going to
- 8:51Speaker 1: stop them. I'll get right back to chatting with Sports
- 8:53Speaker 1: Talk Jay, but first I want to remind you of
- 8:55Speaker 1: two things. One, make sure you are subscribed here. We've
- 8:57Speaker 1: done really well with Tennessee fans, and I know many
- 9:00Speaker 1: of you are. But if you're not yet, make sure
- 9:02Speaker 1: you're subscribed. If you are subscribed, share this video with
- 9:04Speaker 1: a friend that needs to find out about my interviews
- 9:07Speaker 1: with Sports Talk Jay, which we will do all year.
- 9:09Speaker 1: We've enjoyed doing them. He's the best person here on YouTube,
- 9:12Speaker 1: so I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Second, if
- 9:15Speaker 1: you want to reward them for subscribing or if you
- 9:17Speaker 1: want to reward yourself for subscribing, use our code CFA15
- 9:20Speaker 1: to get 15% off at alumnihall.com or at Alumni Hall
- 9:24Speaker 1: in person. If you're going to the game this weekend,
- 9:25Speaker 1: stop by their stores in Knoxville and save 15%. CFA15,
- 9:30Speaker 1: we appreciate Alumni Hall for their support. Now back to
- 9:32Speaker 1: Sports Talk Jay. Cause there's no rules. They, they, they may,
- 9:36Speaker 1: it's all theoretical. It's not like the BCS where if
- 9:38Speaker 1: you get a certain score you're in, it's a, it's
- 9:41Speaker 1: a committee, it's an invitational. So yeah, I'm kind of
- 9:44Speaker 1: with you there. Ole Miss Louisville happening in your state
- 9:47Speaker 1: in Nashville, Tennessee, can Ole Miss keep rolling just starting
- 9:52Speaker 1: with Pete Golding as the, as the only coach for
- 9:56Speaker 1: the entire season, as opposed to taking over for lane Louisville.
- 10:00Speaker 1: a solid program under Brom, who upset Miami on the
- 10:02Speaker 1: road last year. Can Louisville pull the upset, or what
- 10:05Speaker 1: do you got on that one?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Louisville's a dangerous team. Very dangerous team. Ole Miss needs
- 10:09Speaker 2: to not look past them. Trinidad Chambliss needs to have
- 10:12Speaker 2: a good game. I think he will. I think he's
- 10:14Speaker 2: the best quarterback in the country. They should be able
- 10:18Speaker 2: to handle Louisville, but I would not be shocked if
- 10:21Speaker 2: they surprised them and made a game out of it
- 10:23Speaker 2: and even somehow beat them. It's not impossible by any stretch.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Louisville is one of those sneaky good teams that you
- 10:31Speaker 2: better pay attention to.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Louisville always seems to get up for the big game.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Sometimes they'll have like a sleeper where they'll lose a
- 10:37Speaker 1: game at Stanford or struggle on the road at Virginia
- 10:40Speaker 1: tech or BC or something that they're not expected to do.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But for the big games, I think they beat Clemson
- 10:44Speaker 1: in Clemson by multiple scores. Two years ago, they went
- 10:47Speaker 1: down to South Florida and beat Miami comfortably last year
- 10:50Speaker 1: as well, um, as a three score, uh, underdog. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: they get up for the big games. I think that's
- 10:55Speaker 1: one that I'm really intrigued by Baylor Auburn.
- 10:58Speaker 2: That's a, that's a good game. Uh, I was talking
- 11:00Speaker 2: to my Auburn buddies, uh, Yesterday we were playing golf,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and they were talking. I think that's a good matchup.
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know, you've got Alex Golish, who's our former offensive coordinator.
- 11:10Speaker 2: He's got the quarterback he brought from UCF who's very good.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I think they'll beat Baylor.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Oh, Byron Brown from USF.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. I'm sorry. I always confuse those two
- 11:21Speaker 2: for some reason. Yeah, he's really good. I think they
- 11:24Speaker 2: win that ball game, but Baylor's a decent program. They
- 11:27Speaker 2: could lose. So it'll be a very good matchup. I
- 11:31Speaker 2: keep forgetting to mention that's a really good matchup. Whenever
- 11:33Speaker 2: I go through the, uh, the games, I'm always focused
- 11:36Speaker 2: on Clemson and, uh, and LSU, but that's a, that's
- 11:40Speaker 2: a good game.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yeah. I, uh, I I'm interested. I hope DJ Lagway
- 11:44Speaker 1: plays really well just to piss off all the Florida fans.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That's what I'm.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Oh, wait a minute. I think he just threw an interception.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah. He could have four of them in this game, uh,
- 11:54Speaker 1: on Saturday. So But I would like to see them
- 11:56Speaker 1: play well just because that'd be fun. And I don't
- 11:58Speaker 1: really cheer against players. I want to see most of
- 12:01Speaker 1: them play well and score a lot of points because
- 12:03Speaker 1: that's what's fun. Last one, SMU and Florida State.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I like SMU. There's something wrong with Florida. There's just
- 12:14Speaker 2: something wrong. And I know it's there at home, but
- 12:19Speaker 2: it wouldn't take much to turn that fan base into
- 12:23Speaker 2: a booing machine. And if SMU jumps out, they got
- 12:27Speaker 2: that good quarterback and gets up 7-0, 14-0, something like that,
- 12:32Speaker 2: you're going to hear the boo birds and the players
- 12:35Speaker 2: feel that crap.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And next thing you know, things start going bad. I've
- 12:42Speaker 2: just got a really bad feeling about FSU this season,
- 12:45Speaker 2: not long term. They may do a Phoenix game. they
- 12:49Speaker 2: may rise up the following year with a new coach,
- 12:53Speaker 2: but I just, something's not right down there.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah. I, I, I was there on Saturday and they,
- 13:00Speaker 1: they cheered for all the players. The, the, the fans
- 13:03Speaker 1: did when they did the lineups and then they announced
- 13:04Speaker 1: Norvell and they booed. So shout out to the fans
- 13:07Speaker 1: for at least, you know, they didn't take it out
- 13:09Speaker 1: of the players because Hey, they signed up to play.
- 13:11Speaker 1: They may not be as talented as they normally are,
- 13:13Speaker 1: but then they got to Norvell and they booed. They
- 13:15Speaker 1: booed a little bit after the Ashley Daniels pick too. So,
- 13:18Speaker 1: I think I agree with you on all your picks.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I've got SMU winning as well. Yeah, I've not.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Seen anybody talking positively about FSU on any platform at all,
- 13:28Speaker 2: and that's what's thrown me off. It's been that way
- 13:30Speaker 2: the entire offseason, and you guys know that program better
- 13:34Speaker 2: than I do for sure. And when people that are
- 13:37Speaker 2: attached to the program to some level are as subdued
- 13:42Speaker 2: is the right word, it concerns me. So, you know,
- 13:46Speaker 2: we'll see, maybe we'll be shocked and they'll get it
- 13:48Speaker 2: turned around.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You never know. I'm not super hopeful, but yeah, I,
- 13:52Speaker 1: they had an opportunity on Saturday night and I know
- 13:54Speaker 1: it was week zero and I know that maybe it
- 13:57Speaker 1: takes a little bit to get going. I think they'll
- 13:59Speaker 1: play a little bit better, but will it be enough?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Cause SMU is a better team, but man, they had
- 14:03Speaker 1: an opportunity to at least go beat a bad team
- 14:05Speaker 1: and they couldn't do that. And I think that's concerning
- 14:08Speaker 1: for the future. Now, again, you go beat SMU. People
- 14:10Speaker 1: aren't worried about what happened two weeks ago. They'll people
- 14:13Speaker 1: will be fine, but, How many does Tennessee score on Saturday?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Ooh, 45 to 52, something like that's normally what we do.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That offense gets clicking. Of course, he's probably not going
- 14:25Speaker 2: to be super sharp his first game. 42 maybe.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I wonder when do they pull him and let Matt,
- 14:32Speaker 1: because I think you want to get him reps, but
- 14:33Speaker 1: you want to protect him. I think you want to
- 14:35Speaker 1: see what McIntyre can do in a real game too
- 14:37Speaker 1: as a backup or as a, you know, if you
- 14:39Speaker 1: have to switch at some point. I wonder when they're
- 14:41Speaker 1: able to pull him.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I can tell you exactly when he'll pull him based
- 14:45Speaker 2: on how it goes. He usually, the second series of
- 14:48Speaker 2: the third quarter is when you pull your starter. He
- 14:50Speaker 2: likes to let him start the third quarter, and then
- 14:53Speaker 2: as long as he's up by 30, then he'll pull
- 14:56Speaker 2: him and put George McIntyre in for the rest of
- 14:58Speaker 2: the game. You might see Staub for the last series,
- 15:01Speaker 2: but that's Heupel's history. He likes him to start the
- 15:05Speaker 2: second half, and then he pulls him.
- 15:08Speaker 1: We are presented by PrizePix. Again, all new users who

- 15:23Speaker 2: Cool beans.
