- 0:01Vish Chatterji: Welcome everyone to another Drop of Light. This is actually a re-record. Somehow I recorded a drop of light, and the whole thing disappeared. No recording, no audio. Not sure what happened. Technical glitch. That would usually be a Mercury retrograde situation, but Mercury is not actually retrograde right now. So maybe I do have some challenges with Mercury, but what I want to share with you today is about Mars. So Mars is a planet that is the planet of confidence, courage, winning, competing, all those kind of things. In the planetary cabinet, if the sun is the king and
- 0:40the moon is the queen. Mars is the general, the commander in chief. So Mars is a warrior. So it's a warrior planet. And so when you think about Mars, you think about what courage you have, what determination do you have, what is your ability to lead people to execute. In fact, executives and executive ability, management ability, is is often understood through Mars getting things done, and you see Mars is as a planet. Depending where it is in the sky, it gives its energy in different ways. And in Vedic astrology, we have a concept of a planet being exalted or debilitated or strong or
- 1:19weak. And what this means is, when a planet is in a certain location, it tends to do better than other locations. And at the moment, for the last month or so, Mars has been debilitated, and Mars will be debilitated until november 14. What does that mean? Debilitated. Well, Mars is in the constellation, the zodiac constellation of Cancer, right? And as many of you know, Cancer is this very heartfelt, emotional, dreamy, heart-to-heart feelings-based sign. So imagine that there's a house, and the landlord is Cancer. Then Cancer, as many of you know, cancer is ruled by the moon. So the
- 2:05landlord of that house is the moon. The moon decided, "Hey, I'm going to decorate the walls with puffy silks and put poofy, soft cushions on the couch and a nice couch that you literally sink into. You feel enveloped and nurtured and cared for, like the Cancer sign. So you've got this house. The walls are all white. The you know billowing, flowing silks, poofy cushions you sink into, and the music is kind of this spa-like atmosphere. Very cancer, very spa-like, and there's good cooking and food and thoughtfulness and care and nurturing and heartfelt, and in that house that is ruled by the
- 2:46moon, the Cancer sign, sitting on the couch is Mars, and Mars is a warrior. He is aggressive and ready. He's still covered in blood from the last battle. He's holding a sword in one hand, a spear in the other. He's bristling with weapons. He's wearing his armor. He's like ready to go to battle. He's ready to fight the next thing, and he's like, "Ah, what is this couch? I'm sinking into it. And he's trying to stay upright. He wishes a a hard military bench, and he's like, "What are these flowing walls and this spa-like music? He's just not happy. And so, when Mars is in the sign of Cancer,
- 3:19Mars is said to be debilitated, meaning his energy gets very, very disturbed, and in that instability and disturbance, he can start to react in a very angry way. So anybody who comes around him, he may snap at them. So when Mars is debilitated, for all of us, that means we have the ability to potentially snap. We have the potential to snap at something in our lives. Now, I was over the last weekend at a retreat. My wife and I, and a good friend of mine, Manoj, we led a retreat, a yoga of relationships retreat. So we had a group of people. We were in this really great space. People were
- 3:58vulnerable and sharing about their relationship challenges, and we're using different planetary and Vedic astrology approaches, and also thinking archetypes and mythology of the Vedic tradition to navigate people, help navigate through relationship challenges.
- 4:14But on the morning when it started, I said, "Hey, before people enter the workshop space, before I start co-facilitating with Manoj and my wife Carrie, let me just check the chart, and sure enough, I saw Mars debilitated, and I thought, "Oh boy, I have Mars debilitated in my own birth chart, and so when Mars is debilitated right now, that means it's literally in the same spot as it was when I was born. I'm having a Mars return, and there's a real chance of something going sideways. There's real chance of me me potentially losing my temper. So I thought, oh, I need to sort of pay attention
- 4:50here. And sure enough, as the workshop got started, I noticed somebody in the audience started to sort of take up a lot of the airtime, and. And you know we want we want everybody to participate. You know whatever 2030 people we want them to all be able to share equally. But then if somebody sort of takes up the space and and takes up a lot of the time of the workshop, it's sort of you know difficult for the rest of people to share. And normally I'm really good at stepping in and and facilitating and and making sure that everyone gets equal amount of airtime, everyone feels equally
- 5:20heard. But I thought, hey, in this situation with Mars debilitated, this could go sideways very easily. I may say something that may be offensive or may upset the the retreat participants. So I decided to sort of take a step back and take a breath. And the technique I use is a technique called stop. S T O P. And what stop technique means is I know that Mars has a potential to lose its temper, which means I may have the potential to lose my temper. Something, an event happens that sort of triggers me, and I can feel potential anger rising. And the first S of stop is to stop. So I
- 5:58stop. The T is I take a breath, a deep breath. Take a deep breath, and then the O is I observe. I just observe. I observe my emotions. I take a mindfulness approach. Observe my emotions. Observe what's happening in the room. Observe what's happening to my co-facilitators, and then P. I proceed, and by taking that breath and observing that pause, instead of initially acting like you know Mars is a warrior, act first, think later. By thinking first, I was able to take such a pause that my wife Carrie then stepped in and very gently redirected the conversation. It was brilliant. She did a
- 6:40masterful job of getting us back on track, getting us back to where we need to go, and it took the pressure off of me and the risk of me potentially activating this debilitated Mars. Now, while Mars is debilitated, at the same time Jupiter is sitting in that same sign. So right now, Mars is in the sign of Cancer by Vedic astrology calculations, and Jupiter is also in the sign of Cancer, and Jupiter is a planet that loves to be in Cancer. Jupiter, this expansive, happy, generous wisdom planet. In fact, in Sanskrit, Jupiter is known as Guru. Is sitting in that same house in the couch,
- 7:19saying, "I love these soft, poofy cushions. I love these silky, billowing silks on the wall, and I love this spa music. I feel 1,000% myself. So Jupiter sitting in Cancer is actually exalted. So what that means is, if you can manage this debilitated Mars, you can stop, take a breath, observe, and proceed. Then the wisdom of Jupiter allows to shine through because Mars would have disrupted everything, you know, burned the house down. But if you allow Jupiter to sort of bring his grace, then some wisdom comes through. And what's interesting, this is my wife, one of her early times
- 7:54facilitating, and she did such an amazing job. I allowed her wisdom, her guruness, her teaching ability to shine in the process by letting that Mars debility sort of move through me, it allowed Jupiter's wisdom to show grace through her ability to facilitate and teach. So, in this time between now and middle of November, look for all of these opportunities for wisdom to shine at moments you're getting triggered.
- 8:22Mars is debilitated; you will be triggered, especially wherever that sign of Cancer is in your birth chart, whatever area of life that is in. That area of life, let's say Mars is in your house of career, you may get triggered at work. If Mars is in your fifth house of children, your children may trigger you. So, depending on the area of life, you may get triggered. Let's say it's in the fourth house of mother. It may be your mother who triggers you, or in the ninth house of father, your father may trigger you. When that trigger happens, stop, take a breath, observe, and then proceed gently.
- 8:52And you may find this beautiful exalted Jupiter in Cancer then shines through, where wisdom starts to then show. Because right now, both Jupiter and Mars are in the same location in Cancer in one particular area of life in your chart. There is a chance of great wisdom shining through.
