- 0:24Speaker 1: This is the back.
- 0:46Speaker 2: To back and back to back gainst stack Steps.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Speaking to.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Steps feels like a Friday, but it's not. It is
- 1:44Speaker 2: a Thursday, and we got some wet weather that we're
- 1:48Speaker 2: going to be contending with here, not just today, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: also tomorrow. I'm looking at the weekend. I know you've
- 1:57Speaker 2: got big plans. I know there's a lot of stuff
- 2:00Speaker 2: that's coming up. I'll keep you up to date on
- 2:04Speaker 2: the weather as much as I can. One thing I
- 2:07Speaker 2: do know is that I'm not gonna be having to
- 2:09Speaker 2: water the garden today or tomorrow, which is a fantastic.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Man.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We have so much to get to this morning, so
- 2:16Speaker 2: much to talk about. I hope wherever you are, you're
- 2:21Speaker 2: off to a fabulous start to the day. It was
- 2:26Speaker 2: wonderful waking up this morning and just laying there and
- 2:29Speaker 2: just listening to the rain on the metal roof. Loved it.
- 2:35Speaker 2: What a way to start the day that in a
- 2:37Speaker 2: hot cup of coffee. We're good. Good to go. Tomorrow,
- 2:42Speaker 2: weekend kick off with your weekly dose of mental floss.
- 2:48Speaker 2: G is going to be in here. We're gonna be
- 2:50Speaker 2: having all kinds of fun, trust me on that. Lots
- 2:54Speaker 2: to get to this morning, Vincent Arbusio is in the
- 2:57Speaker 2: studio with me. We're gonna be talking about something, and
- 3:01Speaker 2: as I eluded just a short time ago, it'll be
- 3:05Speaker 2: something that you will not forget for a very very
- 3:09Speaker 2: long time. This is going to be one of those
- 3:11Speaker 2: episodes where it's probably gonna stick to the bones for
- 3:16Speaker 2: a little while. We're gonna be talking about music, a
- 3:19Speaker 2: lot of music. Speaking of music. Oh my god, one
- 3:24Speaker 2: of my longtime friends, Chad Hollister, how long have we
- 3:27Speaker 2: been friends, buddy?
- 3:29Speaker 3: I think it's like probably seventy two years.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Seventy guys.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I met you when I was eleven,
- 3:36Speaker 3: so eighty.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Three and m right, remember when my long.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Time remember we were riding around the neighborhood on our
- 3:42Speaker 2: bicycles with the cards stuck in the wheels, and it
- 3:46Speaker 2: just causing all kinds of problems with those fireworks and
- 3:48Speaker 2: stuff that we were launching off.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Well, I remember that I had the big wheel, but
- 3:52Speaker 3: you had the bigger green machine.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Yeah, may me mad, Oh my god.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So, and then you always had these really cool socks
- 4:00Speaker 3: on with your chuck Taylors, and I don't know, I
- 4:03Speaker 3: just I couldn't keep up. I mean, I tried. I tried.
- 4:06Speaker 2: We have to we both have to give some love
- 4:09Speaker 2: this morning to one of our mutual presenting sponsors, Optical Expressions.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I'm wearing my Optical Expressions classes right now.
- 4:18Speaker 3: You must be well before I leave the house. They
- 4:22Speaker 3: always go on. But Mark and Tim are just amazing.
- 4:25Speaker 3: There's been I've been. I've been with him for so long. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 3: so I'm so every day I'm thankful for those cats.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, same here. Hey man, what's what what are
- 4:36Speaker 2: you doing? What's going on? What's happening?
- 4:38Speaker 3: Well, gosh, it's been a lot, man, And I've been traveling,
- 4:43Speaker 3: touring a bunch, and now I'm back home and celebrating
- 4:49Speaker 3: our sixth year in the Von Trapp Family Lodge concert Meadow,
- 4:54Speaker 3: which is The show is on Sunday, June twenty eighth,
- 4:59Speaker 3: and it's a beauty, a full kind of family oriented day.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Gates at four for picnicking for a couple hours picnicking,
- 5:05Speaker 3: carry in, carry out whatever you want, and then show
- 5:08Speaker 3: six to eight and with my acoustic quintet. So we've
- 5:12Speaker 3: got Tommy Dial coming up from Connecticut on the drums.
- 5:15Speaker 3: We've got Chris Peterman that now lives. Excuse me, in
- 5:19Speaker 3: Virginia coming up to play sacks and then Rudy Doth
- 5:23Speaker 3: on bass and and of course Primo on guitar, and
- 5:26Speaker 3: both those cats are singing, and I'll be there too.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So it's just a magical day helping out our friends
- 5:32Speaker 3: in Johnson. Jenny's promise that helps folks with substance abuse
- 5:37Speaker 3: and kind of a full circle approach to recovery, not
- 5:41Speaker 3: just like here's a couple of pills and and good luck.
- 5:44Speaker 3: They're really amazing, and so we always try and help
- 5:47Speaker 3: out somebody. You know, you're you're the king of helping
- 5:50Speaker 3: out local folks JD. And and so we when we're
- 5:53Speaker 3: doing these larger shows, we love to kind of follow
- 5:57Speaker 3: in your in your footsteps and do that. So that's
- 6:00Speaker 3: that's the whole gamut right there.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Jenna's promise is amazing. It's so much more than
- 6:07Speaker 2: just a rehab facility. I mean, it's just a whole
- 6:10Speaker 2: different planet up there. They they're talking long term, permanent recovery,
- 6:16Speaker 2: if you will, and we love them and everything they do.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Their coffee is incredible as well. Chad, I'm guessing knowing
- 6:26Speaker 2: you as long as I have seventy eighty years now,
- 6:30Speaker 2: that you you timed this Trap Family Lodge performance out
- 6:35Speaker 2: in the concert meadow outdoors with that incredible view. You
- 6:39Speaker 2: timed it for the for the sunset. Yeah you did,
- 6:44Speaker 2: didn't exactly?
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah? Oh yeah, yeah, it's it's that moment. I mean,
- 6:48Speaker 3: if you haven't been there or you know, been to
- 6:51Speaker 3: the Trap Meadow, I think you just a you've got
- 6:56Speaker 3: to go, no matter when. But this day, it's just
- 7:00Speaker 3: so special for us for so many reasons. And it's
- 7:03Speaker 3: a self produced show. That's another thing I like to
- 7:06Speaker 3: underline the folks, we through our amazing sponsors, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 3: we we are able to do it. One of course
- 7:11Speaker 3: is Optical Expressions and a slew of other beautiful peeps,
- 7:16Speaker 3: but we you know, I rent the field, I pay
- 7:19Speaker 3: for the parking guys, I rent the porta potties, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 3: And so Trap has been amazing to let us be
- 7:25Speaker 3: there because they don't just let anybody come into that meadow.
- 7:27Speaker 3: So I'm real thankful to Christina and Walter for letting
- 7:32Speaker 3: us rent the field. But I kind of do everything,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and that kind of changes the game for people sometimes
- 7:37Speaker 3: a lot of times people just think that, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 3: Trapp is hiring us and we're doing a concert, but
- 7:42Speaker 3: it's it goes a lot deeper than that, which is
- 7:44Speaker 3: you know, I don't know, just makes it mean a
- 7:46Speaker 3: lot more, which is what I do with a lot
- 7:47Speaker 3: of my shows these days, kind of self produce them
- 7:50Speaker 3: and make sure they go the way that I want them.
- 7:52Speaker 2: To Chad music dot Com to get tickets, you.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Bet, And we're using a new ticketing agency that also
- 7:58Speaker 3: gives those those that you see that I'm using a
- 8:03Speaker 3: new group out of Colorado called Humanitics. Okay, and every
- 8:08Speaker 3: every fee you know, with they're very very little. There's
- 8:11Speaker 3: tat I think the TV's are three bucks and then
- 8:13Speaker 3: taxes are two on each tickets. But it goes to
- 8:17Speaker 3: a humanitarian group somewhere around the world. So I've never
- 8:21Speaker 3: I heard about them and looked into them, and they're
- 8:25Speaker 3: called them and so anyway, it'll take you to a
- 8:28Speaker 3: platform called Humanitics and that's those are where the tickets are.
- 8:30Speaker 3: But you can get them at Chad music dot com.
- 8:32Speaker 2: All right, listen, I know that you're very busy, rock star,
- 8:36Speaker 2: but I need to ask a favor of you. I
- 8:39Speaker 2: need you once we once we disconnect right here, right now,
- 8:43Speaker 2: I need you to tune in to the rest of
- 8:47Speaker 2: this podcast, don't stay connected to it, okay, because this
- 8:52Speaker 2: is something you got to hear and it's going to
- 8:53Speaker 2: get your attention. I'll explain it all right now, all right.
- 8:57Speaker 3: I love it. I love it and JD if at
- 8:59Speaker 3: some point today you want to give away a family
- 9:03Speaker 3: pack or or a which is two adults, two kids,
- 9:06Speaker 3: or you of course you're coming to the show with
- 9:08Speaker 3: a you know, Sherilyn and Lily, but feel free.
- 9:12Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna call you on that
- 9:14Speaker 2: and I'm gonna we're gonna get that buttoned up, all right, Okay,
- 9:18Speaker 2: all right, thanks brother, I love you man. Chad Hollister
- 9:21Speaker 2: right there live with us on aired out this morning.
- 9:24Speaker 2: This has been a Thursday that I have been uh
- 9:30Speaker 2: looking forward to now for quite a while. This guy
- 9:33Speaker 2: who's sitting next to me right now, Vincent Arbusio, UH
- 9:37Speaker 2: and I have very very quickly uh become friends. And
- 9:44Speaker 2: I am so honored to have not only met you
- 9:49Speaker 2: because of a let's be honest, a horrible story. But
- 9:57Speaker 2: you know, I'm often told that anytime so thing horrifically
- 10:02Speaker 2: bad happens, that there will be some goodness that comes
- 10:08Speaker 2: out of it. Some light that comes out of it.
- 10:10Speaker 2: This connection between you and I and all of these
- 10:14Speaker 2: musicians that are now part of your family is a
- 10:20Speaker 2: huge positive that's coming out of a massive negative. Welcome
- 10:26Speaker 2: back to the microphones. I'm so glad that you've stayed
- 10:29Speaker 2: in touch with me. You're texting me daily, sometimes hourly.
- 10:34Speaker 2: We have a lot to talk about musically and otherwise.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And what's coming up on July eleventh right here in
- 10:42Speaker 2: Fromat which very potentially could could be one of the
- 10:48Speaker 2: biggest events in the future happening in Central Fromatt for
- 10:57Speaker 2: many years to come. I want you to tell we're
- 11:00Speaker 2: going to recap here you could tell. I want you
- 11:03Speaker 2: to tell your story of who you are, why you're here.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But July eleventh, you're doing something organically, You're doing something
- 11:14Speaker 2: on a grassroots level that is so huge, and you've
- 11:20Speaker 2: got your head down and you're you're gonna push through this. Man,
- 11:23Speaker 2: what happened? What happened?
- 11:26Speaker 1: Well, First of all, thank you for having me on again. JD. So,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I guess for people that haven't already heard, my son
- 11:36Speaker 1: died recently, a fentanyl death, and and because of that,
- 11:46Speaker 1: somehow it's just kind of snowballed into me setting up
- 11:51Speaker 1: a nonprofit organization and doing these shows and how it
- 11:59Speaker 1: kind of and was at my son's celebration of life,
- 12:03Speaker 1: a lot of local musicians showed up.
- 12:07Speaker 2: That was just a couple of weeks ago.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it was shortly after the funeral, like the eighteenth
- 12:14Speaker 1: I think or something like that. And because of the
- 12:20Speaker 1: show that they put on and their willingness and wanting
- 12:23Speaker 1: to do something, as well as as myself, it just
- 12:28Speaker 1: kind of naturally turned into what it is today, what
- 12:34Speaker 1: what I'm here to talk about today, And and the
- 12:38Speaker 1: July eleventh event is Vincent's Battle. Vincent's Battle is the
- 12:44Speaker 1: the name of our website, Vincentsbattle dot org. People can
- 12:48Speaker 1: go there and get find details about what I'm talking
- 12:51Speaker 1: about and meet the musicians, the ones that have already helped.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And and July eleventh, we're putting on the first event
- 13:03Speaker 1: to raise awareness. It's it's not necessarily a charity event
- 13:09Speaker 1: because we're not asking for donations or anything like that.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Good point, it's for it's for raising awareness and everything's free.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I mean, we're gonna have food there. A matter of fact,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I just got off the phone with a local butcher
- 13:25Speaker 1: Roma's Butchery. I'll give them a little plug scenes how
- 13:29Speaker 1: they're helping out and they're going to be supplying a
- 13:33Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty pound pig to go on a
- 13:35Speaker 1: pig roaster, and so we we're going to have a
- 13:38Speaker 1: tremendous amount of food there and it's all you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: free while at lasts and the campground, the field there,
- 13:47Speaker 1: anybody's wants to, they can pitch a tent and camp overnight.
- 13:53Speaker 1: And obviously you're gonna get to see a tremendous amount
- 13:56Speaker 1: of musicians. I mean, I think I have I think
- 14:01Speaker 1: my count now. I think we're up to eight confirmed
- 14:04Speaker 1: that are that are going to be there, and I'll
- 14:06Speaker 1: go through the list, you know, explain it.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I hope that Chad is listening right now. I hope
- 14:14Speaker 2: that this has his attention and that in some capacity.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I'm not sure what he's got going on on Saturday,
- 14:22Speaker 2: July eleventh. The guy is insanely busy. He's always booking gigs.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But I hope that if he's not able to make
- 14:28Speaker 2: it on this one, the first one, I hope he'll
- 14:32Speaker 2: schedule it in on his calendar for next year. Okay,
- 14:36Speaker 2: eight bands and there will be more.
- 14:40Speaker 1: At least, I mean, there's there's more that I'm just
- 14:43Speaker 1: waiting for the confirmation on. But I kind of expect
- 14:48Speaker 1: that they're going to be there, and but I'm just
- 14:50Speaker 1: not name named. I'm not going to name them at
- 14:52Speaker 1: this moment.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Sure, So this is at forty nine to nineteen Route
- 14:58Speaker 2: fourteen in Royalty. That's the address. It's right there on
- 15:02Speaker 2: your monitor. You're going to see these these posters. You're
- 15:08Speaker 2: going to see this graphic. You're going to see it
- 15:11Speaker 2: all over aired outs page you already have, you're gonna
- 15:14Speaker 2: you're gonna see it in the window here on North
- 15:16Speaker 2: Main Street. You're going to see it all up and
- 15:17Speaker 2: down North Main Street here in Berry and frankly, you're
- 15:21Speaker 2: going to see it all over Central Fromatt the posters
- 15:24Speaker 2: that have been printed. Staples did these for you.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, they did tell me about that. Well, I went
- 15:32Speaker 1: in and to order a kind of like a small
- 15:34Speaker 1: batch to get started, and uh, when I showed up,
- 15:38Speaker 1: they made big giant boaster boards and and they made
- 15:45Speaker 1: boxes and boxes and small flyers and and large paper
- 15:51Speaker 1: flyers and and uh they told me it was on
- 15:54Speaker 1: the house. They they didn't they didn't want the money
- 15:58Speaker 1: and so that that was kind of special, you know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: Staples in Wes Lebanon. I guess let's get dono credit.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You know, how are you doing? How are you pushing
- 16:10Speaker 2: through here? We're going to chat with one of the
- 16:13Speaker 2: musicians who's going to be performing, who was a very
- 16:16Speaker 2: close friend with your son. How are you holding up? Man?
- 16:20Speaker 2: It's only been a couple of weeks. This is so
- 16:23Speaker 2: fresh and raw for you.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Yeah. I've been literally so busy that, like, I haven't
- 16:31Speaker 1: even really had time to think about how I'm holding up.
- 16:36Speaker 1: You know, I just keep going.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You dove in headfirst to this right away. You and
- 16:42Speaker 2: I spoke, I want to say, maybe a week after
- 16:50Speaker 2: your son died, and one of the things that I
- 16:55Speaker 2: remember you saying to me was that you're you're You're
- 17:02Speaker 2: not going to sit around and and just slip into
- 17:07Speaker 2: a hardcore state of depression over this. You're going to
- 17:13Speaker 2: stand up. You're going to bring awareness to this, not
- 17:19Speaker 2: just publicly by having an event like this, but also
- 17:25Speaker 2: you're going to get yourself under the Golden Dome if
- 17:31Speaker 2: you can. And you've already reached out to at least
- 17:37Speaker 2: one senator here in Vermont, Rebecca White. Yeah, how has
- 17:43Speaker 2: that experience been so far.
- 17:45Speaker 1: It's been great really to have one of the local
- 17:51Speaker 1: politicians you know, that that wants to help. And actually,
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought that up, because if everybody goes
- 18:00Speaker 1: on my website and they look, they'll see there's Senator
- 18:06Speaker 1: white Is on that page, and there's a section there
- 18:10Speaker 1: for local politicians and other politicians that want to join.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But I think it's important because when I was building
- 18:17Speaker 1: the website, you as a web designer, you don't ever
- 18:21Speaker 1: leave an empty space on a page, and there's a
- 18:25Speaker 1: lot of empty space where she's sitting, and I think
- 18:29Speaker 1: we need to get some of our other local politicians involved.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I don't understand why, whichever ones are in my district.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I think they should all be on there.
- 18:45Speaker 2: For sure, great point, but I've yet.
- 18:50Speaker 1: To got a phone call back from any of them,
- 18:53Speaker 1: so I don't know if anybody can contact them easier
- 18:56Speaker 1: than I can, but that would be helpful if you could.
- 19:00Speaker 2: All right, We're we're showing on the monitor right now,
- 19:05Speaker 2: your website, Vincent's battle dot org, which has just been born,
- 19:11Speaker 2: just launched like yesterday or the day before. We're showing
- 19:15Speaker 2: the musicians on here. We're showing. Uh, we're going to
- 19:20Speaker 2: show a lot of stuff. I'm scrolling down the page
- 19:22Speaker 2: right now.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit further down is where Senator White is.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I'll show that right now. And again we're going to
- 19:33Speaker 2: connect in with kla here in just a second. But
- 19:38Speaker 2: my god, man, this is going to be big.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, right there, it's it's a big empty spot. We're
- 19:44Speaker 1: just her sitting there, and that kind of done intentionally,
- 19:49Speaker 1: exactly exactly, And and I think them empty spots need
- 19:54Speaker 1: to be filled up with at least the rest of
- 19:59Speaker 1: my look, district representatives and senators. Yeah, and there's four
- 20:07Speaker 1: others total that I have a representative and and uh
- 20:11Speaker 1: three three senators and and she's the only one there.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Vinnie, you said that when the last time you were
- 20:19Speaker 2: in here, which was the first time, you said that
- 20:21Speaker 2: it is your goal to maybe get into the state
- 20:26Speaker 2: House and and and speak and tell your story in
- 20:31Speaker 2: some capacity. That it's not just about what happened, which
- 20:40Speaker 2: is unspeakably horrible as a as a as a parent myself,
- 20:45Speaker 2: I can't even fathom it and I never will be
- 20:49Speaker 2: able to. But also to speak to the opioid crisis
- 21:00Speaker 2: that we've got going on hearing fromon. I just had
- 21:05Speaker 2: our Lieutenant governor in here, John Rogers, just a couple
- 21:08Speaker 2: of days ago, and we spoke about this quite a
- 21:10Speaker 2: bit and a really frank conversation that Vermont has in
- 21:19Speaker 2: some regard is not getting better. We've got a lot
- 21:24Speaker 2: of preventative stuff that's going on in our state. We
- 21:27Speaker 2: have a lot of rehabilitation, we have a lot of
- 21:29Speaker 2: mental health services, and the list goes on and on,
- 21:33Speaker 2: but we still have a major, major problem in this
- 21:37Speaker 2: state with a couple of real big arteries, and one
- 21:42Speaker 2: of them is ninety one Northbound. And what's coming out
- 21:47Speaker 2: of Springfield, what's coming out of Hartford, what's coming on
- 21:50Speaker 2: of Albany, what's coming out of other points, what's coming
- 21:54Speaker 2: out of New Hampshire, and.
- 21:58Speaker 1: In an Amtrak train that brings them in from wherever.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I know, it's huge, man, And you know, and to
- 22:05Speaker 2: first see it in our cities, and then it was
- 22:10Speaker 2: in our towns, and now it's out in the hills,
- 22:14Speaker 2: it's in the woods of Vermont, which is really disturbing.
- 22:19Speaker 2: And we've got a huge problem. And as a dad
- 22:22Speaker 2: who has an eleven year old kid, I'm not gonna
- 22:29Speaker 2: lie I'm there's some big concerns of what's coming down
- 22:34Speaker 2: the pipe here in our state. There's a couple of
- 22:36Speaker 2: things that we really don't have a grasp on, and
- 22:42Speaker 2: this is one of them. This is a fight that
- 22:45Speaker 2: many say that we're losing. Honestly, we're just maybe in
- 22:51Speaker 2: some areas we've got a little bit of traction on it,
- 22:54Speaker 2: a grasp on it. We're making some progress here and there,
- 22:57Speaker 2: but other areas not so much. Tell me about Klea
- 23:02Speaker 2: before we put him on here. Tell me about this guy,
- 23:05Speaker 2: all right.
- 23:05Speaker 1: He's interestingly enough, he's one of the musicians that contacted
- 23:10Speaker 1: me for my son's celebration of life. And he was
- 23:17Speaker 1: just another one that said, hey, you know, I want
- 23:19Speaker 1: to just come play a song or whatever, and so
- 23:22Speaker 1: he showed up and at the time I had no idea,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but he was a friend of my son's and they
- 23:31Speaker 1: they made music together over in Rutland, him and several
- 23:34Speaker 1: other groups, and so that was a great contact for me,
- 23:40Speaker 1: so I could get some of these other musicians that
- 23:42Speaker 1: played music with my son at this event coming up.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Had you known kle No, I didn't know him at all, really.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So there's you didn't know me either. And I didn't
- 23:57Speaker 2: know you. I mean, there's.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Gifts, there's connections.
- 24:01Speaker 2: There's connections, and there's gifts that are coming out of
- 24:04Speaker 2: this whole thing.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Fair to say that you're going to be connected with
- 24:10Speaker 2: Kla in some way. Oh yeah, I mean we for
- 24:14Speaker 2: a long time, for the rest of your life.
- 24:16Speaker 1: We met Saturday at Rick Rennington's The Wild Fern, uh
- 24:22Speaker 1: kind of like a group meeting me and a few
- 24:23Speaker 1: other musicians, and they got to see the legend, you know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: Rick Reddington play. Wow, that was amazing. He did a
- 24:32Speaker 1: tribute song to my son, which was absolutely amazing. I'm
- 24:37Speaker 1: going to try to get that on a website at
- 24:40Speaker 1: some point. I just haven't had time to do it.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Your son, Vincent, well.
- 24:46Speaker 1: He wasn't a junior because we had a different middle name.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean you could you could say you
- 24:51Speaker 1: could say that.
- 24:52Speaker 2: We called many called him Vinnie.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:55Speaker 2: All right, Kla, Welcome to the Aired Out podcast.
- 24:59Speaker 4: My man, how's it going.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Brother, it's going well. I'm so happy that you're with us,
- 25:06Speaker 2: that you're connected with us.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Tell us to be on the show.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, man, tell us about your story with Vinnie, how
- 25:16Speaker 2: you met him, how you guys recorded music together, you
- 25:20Speaker 2: became friends. I know nothing about.
- 25:23Speaker 5: This, so at first, at first, mine and Vinnie's friendship
- 25:27Speaker 5: wasn't about music. It started before music, Like me and
- 25:33Speaker 5: Vinnie have been friends for.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Stay.
- 25:37Speaker 5: I met him in school, if I'm gonna be honest,
- 25:40Speaker 5: I went to school with them.
- 25:41Speaker 4: That's how I met him.
- 25:41Speaker 5: And with my group of friends that I was entangled with,
- 25:45Speaker 5: we were mutual friends. My group of friends were mutual
- 25:48Speaker 5: friends with him. So when we would go out skateboarding
- 25:52Speaker 5: or go out walking around town causing trouble like little
- 25:55Speaker 5: kids do well, we would always Bennie was always with us.
- 25:59Speaker 5: And then it got to a point where we were
- 26:02Speaker 5: when we were hanging out, we just get bored and
- 26:05Speaker 5: start freestyling with each other. And that's how them that's
- 26:07Speaker 5: how the music started. Like we started freestyling and stuff.
- 26:11Speaker 5: And then I was freestyling with him, my buddy Kalek
- 26:16Speaker 5: and my brother Jeremy, and my buddy Kalek was like, well,
- 26:21Speaker 5: I'm trying to make an album and I was like.
- 26:24Speaker 5: Benny was like, and I well, I well, I have
- 26:26Speaker 5: the equipment. So we just go to my house and
- 26:28Speaker 5: let's record. And that's what we did.
- 26:30Speaker 4: And that was my first time ever in the studio, and.
- 26:33Speaker 5: I'm and if I'm gonna be honest, the track that
- 26:35Speaker 5: we did that day is lost and I can't get
- 26:37Speaker 5: it back because it was on Bennie's computer.
- 26:40Speaker 4: So but that's how like everything started.
- 26:43Speaker 5: It was really just a bunch of school kids running
- 26:47Speaker 5: around town that had some ambitions and put it together.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And close friends, Yeah, very close friends. Tell me Tell
- 26:57Speaker 2: me about tell me about the time of transition where
- 27:05Speaker 2: Vinny had to discover sobriety. He was at that point
- 27:12Speaker 2: where he had to get clean.
- 27:16Speaker 4: That's when that's when he stopped talking to a lot
- 27:19Speaker 4: of us. If I'm gonna be honest, like when.
- 27:21Speaker 5: When he started going towards his track of sobriety, he
- 27:25Speaker 5: like kind of cut everybody off and focused on that.
- 27:29Speaker 1: And then when.
- 27:33Speaker 5: Like that's what kind of when I lost contact with him,
- 27:36Speaker 5: Like I didn't have contact with him probably for like
- 27:39Speaker 5: two and a half year. You know, the last time
- 27:43Speaker 5: I talked to him like face to face was probably
- 27:48Speaker 5: it wasn't last summer. It was July of twenty twenty four,
- 27:52Speaker 5: was when I talked to him last in person, and
- 27:56Speaker 5: he was pretty heavy into the drugs.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Then what happened after that continue from from there.
- 28:07Speaker 5: After that, we just kind of like we stopped talking essentially,
- 28:13Speaker 5: is what it was. We would FaceTime and like I'd
- 28:15Speaker 5: show him my beats and I'd show him the songs
- 28:17Speaker 5: that I've been making because he wasn't he kind of
- 28:20Speaker 5: stopped like.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Recording.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I mean, he never stopped making beats, but he stopped recording.
- 28:27Speaker 5: And I was trying to get him on a song,
- 28:29Speaker 5: but he was like he had some life shit going
- 28:32Speaker 5: on and he wasn't able to make it down to
- 28:33Speaker 5: the studio.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Do you have any recollection or any memory at all
- 28:41Speaker 2: about that last song that you guys were were mixing down?
- 28:47Speaker 5: I do, actually, yeah, I remember Vinnie opened the song.
- 28:51Speaker 5: I came, I came in after Vinnie. My buddy Kaleak
- 28:54Speaker 5: threw a hook and and then Vinnie finished it off,
- 28:58Speaker 5: and it was it was a song. It was a
- 29:01Speaker 5: it was a remix. Actually, it was a remix to
- 29:05Speaker 5: Lucid Dreams by Juice World.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Vinny my understanding, and you both can correct me if
- 29:13Speaker 2: I'm wrong, was sober for about six years.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well no, no, he was clean for about the
- 29:24Speaker 1: last two years, okay, And I would like to say
- 29:27Speaker 1: one other thing. I may have that computer that you're
- 29:30Speaker 1: talking about. There you have it. There is one, and
- 29:34Speaker 1: it's an old one, probably the age of when you're
- 29:37Speaker 1: talking about that, I do have. It's possible. I'll look
- 29:41Speaker 1: through it.
- 29:42Speaker 4: That's what I'm because it was.
- 29:44Speaker 5: I don't I don't remember exactly what the computer was
- 29:47Speaker 5: it was. I was like, like I said, I'm twenty now.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I started making music when I was like fucking thirteen,
- 29:54Speaker 5: So it was like me and yeah, it was a
- 29:58Speaker 5: while ago. And dude, it wasn't even like like, if
- 30:02Speaker 5: I'm going to be honest, we used to just hang
- 30:04Speaker 5: out and drink together and smoke a bunch of weed.
- 30:07Speaker 5: That's literally how we met each other. Yeah, and then
- 30:10Speaker 5: that's what it turned into.
- 30:12Speaker 2: What was it? Where were you? Kla?
- 30:16Speaker 1: Where was it?
- 30:17Speaker 2: I would know where where were you when you got
- 30:19Speaker 2: the word that Vinnie was gone?
- 30:24Speaker 5: I was at work, actually, I was on my lunch
- 30:27Speaker 5: breaks and I was scrolling through Facebook, and when I
- 30:33Speaker 5: seen the post, I was like it kind of like
- 30:38Speaker 5: I'm getting goosebumps talking about it.
- 30:40Speaker 4: It like my stomach dropped.
- 30:43Speaker 5: It wasn't like like like I.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Had this feeling in my stomach and it just like
- 30:51Speaker 4: I couldn't finish my lunch.
- 30:52Speaker 5: It made my stomach just to put it into perspective.
- 30:56Speaker 5: So but when I saw the post, I instantly called
- 30:58Speaker 5: my friend. I called my buddy, Austin Lamb and he
- 31:05Speaker 5: me and him were Me and him were close with
- 31:06Speaker 5: him too, That's like he I was actually with him
- 31:09Speaker 5: when I had my last interaction with Vinnie. And yeah,
- 31:13Speaker 5: he was supposed to be with me at the celebration
- 31:15Speaker 5: of life, but you had to work.
- 31:19Speaker 2: It's m it's pretty amazing to think that folks can
- 31:30Speaker 2: get clean and be doing so well on the road
- 31:37Speaker 2: that they're on, this beautiful, beautiful road of recovery.
- 31:44Speaker 5: If I'm going to be completely honest, I was struggling
- 31:46Speaker 5: with addiction for a little bit, myself and Vinnie Vin.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Since Vinnie's like the reason I'm like stading sober. I
- 31:54Speaker 5: haven't touched anything since he died, and I plan not to.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Wow, you also recognize, cal A that when when someone
- 32:07Speaker 2: in your shoes experiences something like this with a close
- 32:12Speaker 2: friend who is clean and then relapses that and and
- 32:24Speaker 2: dies that you're you, it hurts real bad. I can
- 32:29Speaker 2: only I can't imagine.
- 32:31Speaker 5: But not even not even just because like they're what
- 32:35Speaker 5: they're going through, what they're experiencing, and that they're they're
- 32:37Speaker 5: having those struggles. Again, there's that part of it too,
- 32:40Speaker 5: But then there's also the part of because me, I'm
- 32:43Speaker 5: a recovering addict, So it's like, I know, I know
- 32:46Speaker 5: how it is to relapse, I know what it feels like,
- 32:48Speaker 5: I know, I know the I know the struggle. So
- 32:51Speaker 5: it's like it just makes me feel bad and I don't, like,
- 32:54Speaker 5: I just want to help people this awareness because I'm
- 33:00Speaker 5: sick of my friends dying off of drugs.
- 33:02Speaker 2: You're doing that, You're you're already starting to do that
- 33:06Speaker 2: alongside venues, sitting right here next to me. But you know,
- 33:11Speaker 2: isn't it just incredible that you can be on this
- 33:17Speaker 2: beautiful road to recovery and in a split second, with
- 33:22Speaker 2: a quick relapse, be gone forever, be gone forever. The
- 33:30Speaker 2: show's over fucking horrible.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Makes me want to cry a little bit and all that.
- 33:37Speaker 2: But you also, kla have you also understand that folks
- 33:43Speaker 2: that are in your shoes having a friend that has
- 33:48Speaker 2: passed away from a quick relapse, you also understand that
- 33:56Speaker 2: folks in your shoes, you could either you're at a crossroads.
- 34:01Speaker 2: You could either take a hard left and be consumed
- 34:06Speaker 2: with your sorrow and your grief and start using again
- 34:12Speaker 2: and start going down that road. Or you could take
- 34:16Speaker 2: a hard right, which is what you're doing now, and
- 34:24Speaker 2: committing yourself to sobriety, committing yourself to awareness, and committing
- 34:31Speaker 2: yourself along with Vinnie here to taking greater action, real
- 34:38Speaker 2: action with the state of Vermont to say, hey, we're
- 34:43Speaker 2: not winning this fight. You guys, all of you folks
- 34:49Speaker 2: that are wearing the fancy suits every day and going
- 34:52Speaker 2: under the Golden Dome, you need to be aware of
- 34:57Speaker 2: this story. You need to come down to the level
- 35:01Speaker 2: of this family and and Vinnie's friends, and you need
- 35:06Speaker 2: to really experience this. Frankly, I wish that they could
- 35:13Speaker 2: all be there on Saturday, July eleventh.
- 35:17Speaker 5: I'm going to have a good crowd of people that
- 35:20Speaker 5: were Vinnie's friends come in July eleventh. I have reached
- 35:23Speaker 5: out to a lot of a lot of old friends,
- 35:26Speaker 5: a lot of mutual.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Friends, and so far I have, like I think, I think.
- 35:35Speaker 5: The Facebook event already has like thirty one people going.
- 35:40Speaker 5: That's just off the spreading that I the awareness I've
- 35:43Speaker 5: been trying to spread yeah, and it's all friends that
- 35:46Speaker 5: we used to like hang out with, so I can
- 35:48Speaker 5: say I can vouch you be like yeah, like yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 2: It says, And I want to put you on the
- 35:55Speaker 2: spot here and Vinnie as well. It says on Vincent's
- 35:58Speaker 2: battle dot org right here. Let me show it on
- 36:03Speaker 2: the screen so everyone can see it. That's on your monitor,
- 36:07Speaker 2: it says. Below is the list of Vermont politicians that
- 36:11Speaker 2: have joined our fight and wish to help our cause.
- 36:18Speaker 2: One picture, one name, Senator Rebecca White, Windsor District right there.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Vinnie was in here a couple of weeks ago and said,
- 36:30Speaker 2: I could give a good shit what party you belong to.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I could care less if you're a Democrat, if you're
- 36:40Speaker 2: a Republican, I don't give a damn. You all need
- 36:46Speaker 2: to be paying attention and you all need to do something.
- 36:51Speaker 2: And I know this is a this is a there's
- 36:53Speaker 2: a lot of tears to this. There's a lot of
- 36:55Speaker 2: levels to how we fight our opioidrom hearing from a crisis.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Something real.
- 37:04Speaker 2: You are, dude.
- 37:07Speaker 5: So I feel like that just as much as we
- 37:11Speaker 5: need help from the state, we need help from like
- 37:14Speaker 5: the community, like.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Because it's not we're not going to be Like.
- 37:21Speaker 5: The state and the government have been trying to resolve
- 37:23Speaker 5: the drug crisis for how long, it's not going to
- 37:26Speaker 5: do it. Like nothing's gonna get resolved unless the community
- 37:28Speaker 5: steps up and fights it too.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:34Speaker 5: And a lot of people and a lot of people
- 37:35Speaker 5: don't like to get involved with it because they just
- 37:38Speaker 5: don't want they don't want to be involved with any
- 37:40Speaker 5: of it. But if they fight back to stop it,
- 37:43Speaker 5: then there will be a lot less of it. And
- 37:45Speaker 5: if we could just like work with work with work
- 37:51Speaker 5: with people about getting recovery homes, and work with people
- 37:55Speaker 5: about getting people help and actually.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Solving a day instead of like fighting it and throwing.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Them in jail or just giving them a citation and
- 38:07Speaker 5: releasing them.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Like yeah, just as up to the state, it's up
- 38:12Speaker 4: to the community.
- 38:13Speaker 1: What do you say, Vinny, Well, I mean, I'm I'm
- 38:18Speaker 1: setting up the way that people can do it like
- 38:22Speaker 1: in my community at first, you know. And and it's
- 38:27Speaker 1: gonna have to work throughout the other communities eventually. And
- 38:34Speaker 1: what he's saying about the community helping, there's things you
- 38:37Speaker 1: can do to help. You don't have to be in
- 38:40Speaker 1: that like in the in the you don't have to
- 38:43Speaker 1: be in the alleyways trying to wrestle up drug dealers.
- 38:47Speaker 1: You don't have to do that. I mean, there's simple
- 38:50Speaker 1: things you can do, Like anybody that's in my district,
- 38:53Speaker 1: Windsor County, contact your representatives, contact your senators, tell them
- 38:59Speaker 1: how come here? Not on that website, you know, how
- 39:04Speaker 1: come as only one of us, one of our state
- 39:08Speaker 1: representatives there. So those are anybody could do that. They
- 39:14Speaker 1: can share this episode that you're making today once you
- 39:18Speaker 1: post it online. There's tons of small things that make
- 39:23Speaker 1: a big difference that anybody could do.
- 39:27Speaker 2: We got to find out, you know what, what we
- 39:33Speaker 2: We can talk about connecting our community. We can talk
- 39:38Speaker 2: about raising awareness. You're creating a five O C three,
- 39:44Speaker 2: a nonprofit. There's a lot of wonderful things that are
- 39:49Speaker 2: going on. But I would love to have some real
- 39:54Speaker 2: conversation and I did a few days ago with our
- 39:59Speaker 2: Lieutenant governor, was sitting right where you're sitting right now,
- 40:03Speaker 2: about logistically what do we need to do to get
- 40:10Speaker 2: a grasp on this situation here in Vermont. We're probably
- 40:17Speaker 2: never going to be able to prevent this kind of
- 40:21Speaker 2: stuff from overdose from happening. I think we all understand
- 40:27Speaker 2: that that it is. It's just the reality, and overdoses
- 40:32Speaker 2: have always happened. But how can we What do we
- 40:36Speaker 2: need to do? Do we need to get into the
- 40:38Speaker 2: elementary schools? Do we need to start put the roots
- 40:42Speaker 2: down on the early side of this from a preventative standpoint?
- 40:47Speaker 2: Do we need to increase the accountability? Do we need
- 40:53Speaker 2: to change our laws, our penalties, our punishments, our jail time?
- 40:59Speaker 2: Does is the rebill that exists right now? I know
- 41:04Speaker 2: we can kla and you know this too. We can
- 41:08Speaker 2: speak honestly. I'm just saying it like it is here.
- 41:11Speaker 2: We can sit around and spend all of this time
- 41:15Speaker 2: and effort and lawyers and money and and everything an
- 41:18Speaker 2: investment with an investigation that could end up being conclusive.
- 41:26Speaker 2: But but we we need to start really chipping away
- 41:30Speaker 2: at this.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Man.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I mean this, this, this is horrible. You lost your
- 41:34Speaker 2: goddamn son, Bro. I mean I I don't know. I'll
- 41:39Speaker 2: tell you right now. I'll tell both of you right
- 41:40Speaker 2: now that that as a father, if this were to
- 41:47Speaker 2: happen to my little girl, I I don't know that
- 41:51Speaker 2: I would be able to even manage manage, manage, uh
- 42:00Speaker 2: survive this I don't know that I would be going
- 42:03Speaker 2: down this road that you're on right now, which is
- 42:06Speaker 2: raising awareness. Yeah, with me, go ahead.
- 42:09Speaker 4: I can attest to that.
- 42:11Speaker 5: Like I don't really like I don't have my own
- 42:15Speaker 5: child at the moment.
- 42:16Speaker 4: I have one on the way.
- 42:17Speaker 5: I'm kind of a step dad at the moment. But like,
- 42:21Speaker 5: even in that situation, I'd probably still I don't know
- 42:25Speaker 5: how I would handle it.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yep, this is a strong mofo sitting.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, definitely. He's definitely one of the strongest people
- 42:35Speaker 5: I've met. Yeah, this is one pain that's I don't
- 42:40Speaker 5: know how you I don't. I don't say it's it's
- 42:45Speaker 5: I don't know how to.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I don't. I wouldn't be able to fathom it.
- 42:47Speaker 3: And like.
- 42:53Speaker 5: Thee the grief, the grief I feel, the grief I
- 42:56Speaker 5: feel from losing the grief I feel from losing my friend,
- 43:00Speaker 5: I can't even imagine how the dad feels.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Like what you've embraced this fella, Kla. Yes, yeah, you
- 43:09Speaker 2: will again on July eleventh.
- 43:11Speaker 5: And you're wholeheartedly with open arms.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're bringing your compadres with you, You're bringing You're
- 43:25Speaker 2: bringing your family, you're bringing your friends, your network of
- 43:29Speaker 2: musicians and otherwise.
- 43:32Speaker 5: Yes, sir, I'm I'm bringing my I'm bringing I have
- 43:36Speaker 5: a music group.
- 43:38Speaker 4: It's it's Identity Records.
- 43:40Speaker 5: I'm part of it, me as me and my friends,
- 43:43Speaker 5: and we started it.
- 43:47Speaker 4: I didn't start it. I joined it.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Actually they started it, and then I ended up I
- 43:52Speaker 5: ended up becoming a figure part of them. And we
- 43:55Speaker 5: have something really good going now. And yeah, I'm I'm
- 44:00Speaker 5: bringing my team. I'm bringing my team Identity Records on
- 44:03Speaker 5: me and then I'm going to bring all my friends that
- 44:06Speaker 5: aren't mutual with Vinue, So there's gonna be quite a good,
- 44:10Speaker 5: quite amount of people there. And the other artists that
- 44:12Speaker 5: are coming with we have networking, so so both.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I really I have a good feeling that it's gonna
- 44:20Speaker 4: be a really good turn out.
- 44:22Speaker 2: We just got a we've got a couple of comments
- 44:26Speaker 2: here and I just read the first sentence here and
- 44:33Speaker 2: I'll read the rest of it here. It says from Taylor,
- 44:36Speaker 2: for one, we need a little bit more empathy. And
- 44:40Speaker 2: when I see the word empathy, that's a trigger for
- 44:43Speaker 2: me because a lot of us don't have enough of it.
- 44:47Speaker 2: We simply default to other things, which is easy to
- 44:52Speaker 2: do not every addict is a bad person who gets
- 44:56Speaker 2: into trouble or trashes our cities in towns. Many trying
- 45:00Speaker 2: to live normal lives just like you and I, and
- 45:03Speaker 2: many don't want to be going down this path. Empathy
- 45:07Speaker 2: can go a long way in helping people get their
- 45:10Speaker 2: lives back as what a comment, What a comment, Stacy,
- 45:20Speaker 2: who also just wrote in I say this to Stacy
- 45:27Speaker 2: who's listening down in Ford Pierce right now, that if
- 45:34Speaker 2: you care to call me, you can right now and
- 45:40Speaker 2: I'll put you on the air. Kla, thanks for coming.
- 45:42Speaker 4: On with us, Man, Yeah, Man, of course I.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Look forward to meeting you. And you know, I want
- 45:49Speaker 2: to also mention these other musicians. Oh my god, Patrick Sargent,
- 45:56Speaker 2: who's just unbelievable, dude, Holy crap. Was checking out his
- 46:02Speaker 2: stuff on YouTube. Both there there's a legend Gully Boys,
- 46:06Speaker 2: another legend in tread Way. Kla, Mac, we got you
- 46:14Speaker 2: right here. I'm gonna be sharing your stuff up to
- 46:16Speaker 2: Man and Tony Stratt and there's gonna be more. I mean,
- 46:24Speaker 2: this is gonna be more.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just what I could get onto the website.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but we got a couple of weeks ago, bro.
- 46:32Speaker 5: If I'm gonna say this anywhere, this should probably be
- 46:35Speaker 5: the spot to say it. But July eleventh that whenever
- 46:38Speaker 5: my set starts, there will be a tribute song for
- 46:42Speaker 5: Vincent dropping on all platforms and the music video will
- 46:45Speaker 5: be releasing with it.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Were you aware of that, Vinny?
- 46:49Speaker 1: I couldn't hear what he said.
- 46:51Speaker 2: He just say it again, Klea.
- 46:55Speaker 5: On July eleventh, at three pm, the tribute song for
- 46:59Speaker 5: Vincent was live on all platforms and the music videos
- 47:02Speaker 5: dropping on YouTube with it.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Well, thank you, thanks brother. I can't wait to meet you, man, Yeah,
- 47:10Speaker 2: wait to meet you. It's gonna be awesome. Calee Mack,
- 47:15Speaker 2: What a what a guy? Holy crap.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Well, now you can see what like the musicians being
- 47:20Speaker 1: involved is. Yeah, it's really key. I mean it's and
- 47:26Speaker 1: it's helpful for the parent too, and not just these events.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I want to envision like a day where other parents
- 47:35Speaker 1: going through this they can show up and do you know,
- 47:39Speaker 1: a celebration of life or something. It makes a big
- 47:43Speaker 1: difference to the parent, It really does.
- 47:45Speaker 2: There's a guy by the name of Brad Griffin who
- 47:47Speaker 2: was in here on the air with me not too
- 47:49Speaker 2: long ago, sharing his his story, which is unbelievable of
- 47:56Speaker 2: substance use, but also surprise and the other side of
- 48:04Speaker 2: sobriety and what he's done with it. It's one thing
- 48:08Speaker 2: to just get sober, get clean, but it's a whole
- 48:12Speaker 2: another thing to get sober, get clean and then start
- 48:16Speaker 2: your own business and thrive, grow be better every hour
- 48:21Speaker 2: of every day. He just I'm gonna be meeting up
- 48:24Speaker 2: with him today and I've got I'm gonna run over
- 48:27Speaker 2: to Vincent's campground today and I'm going to have a
- 48:30Speaker 2: look at the the property. I want to see the
- 48:32Speaker 2: layout and all that stuff and check cell service and
- 48:34Speaker 2: all that fun stuff. But Brad just posted up facts.
- 48:39Speaker 2: But we really, what we really need is different avenues
- 48:43Speaker 2: and outlets, both for kids and adults. Most most one
- 48:50Speaker 2: horse towns in Vermont, including Barry, are places you get stuck.
- 48:55Speaker 2: And when you're in a stuck mindset, you just want
- 49:00Speaker 2: to get out. And if you can't get out and
- 49:03Speaker 2: find your way physically, well you sure find your way chemically.
- 49:12Speaker 2: And it's very sad, is what he wrote. And that's
- 49:19Speaker 2: coming from somebody who can really talk the talk. Been there,
- 49:26Speaker 2: done that.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think personally, the solution really in the end
- 49:35Speaker 1: is to have the laws changed much stricter laws. For example,
- 49:43Speaker 1: here's the extreme example. If you go to China, they
- 49:46Speaker 1: don't have this problem because if you deal drugs like that,
- 49:50Speaker 1: they kill you. I mean that's how strict it is
- 49:56Speaker 1: over there. So they literally do not have these problems. Now,
- 50:00Speaker 1: I'm not saying we got to go to that drastic,
- 50:02Speaker 1: but we got to get to a point where people
- 50:06Speaker 1: are not going to come to Vermont to do that.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Right now, they're targeting.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Us to state.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like there's there's a saying. There used to
- 50:15Speaker 1: be a saying, if you want to commit a murder,
- 50:18Speaker 1: do it in Vermont, And now I think there's another saying,
- 50:23Speaker 1: if you want to be a fentanyl dealer, come to Vermont.
- 50:26Speaker 1: You know it's it's and it's pretty sad that our
- 50:30Speaker 1: state is pretty much has the most flimsy loss compared
- 50:36Speaker 1: to even just check the laws to next door and
- 50:38Speaker 1: New Hampshire's much stronger laws than we have. We're not
- 50:45Speaker 1: even close to where the laws need to be.
- 50:47Speaker 2: I mean, there's there's a there's a pull and a
- 50:53Speaker 2: push between rehabilitation, prevention, awareness, education, but over on the
- 51:07Speaker 2: other side, accountability laws, bills, punishments finds. The list goes
- 51:20Speaker 2: on this state, and I know that there's a lot
- 51:26Speaker 2: of programs. Treatment Court is one of them. There was
- 51:31Speaker 2: another one that you were talking about the last time
- 51:33Speaker 2: you were in here. What was that?
- 51:35Speaker 1: Oh jeez, I can't remember all that. That one was
- 51:44Speaker 1: in Bradford the I can't remember the name of it.
- 51:49Speaker 1: But I'm glad you brought that up because that, I mean,
- 51:52Speaker 1: I've identified another major problem kind of and and my
- 51:59Speaker 1: going through that with my sons, even when they're ready
- 52:03Speaker 1: to go to treatment and you and it's it's really
- 52:07Speaker 1: hard to get a person ready to go to treatment
- 52:09Speaker 1: and say, you know, I all right, I want to go,
- 52:13Speaker 1: I want to get clean. But when when you get
- 52:16Speaker 1: them to that point, it often takes two three weeks
- 52:19Speaker 1: before you can actually get them into a treatment facility.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And in that length of time, I mean, it's odds
- 52:28Speaker 1: are by the time the three weeks come then then
- 52:30Speaker 1: they're not going to be well to go.
- 52:32Speaker 2: You talking about Value Vista.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Value Vesta Yeah. And and it's because they're so overwhelmed,
- 52:38Speaker 1: like it's it's not their fault. There's only so many
- 52:41Speaker 1: of them, and they they can only get so many
- 52:43Speaker 1: people in at a time. But that that's a major
- 52:47Speaker 1: problem because when somebody wants to get clean, they there
- 52:51Speaker 1: should be a place for them immediately. I mean that
- 52:53Speaker 1: there shouldn't be a two three week wait. I think
- 52:57Speaker 1: that's where ver Mott's failing really big when when it
- 53:03Speaker 1: comes to help and treat people, because it's not easy
- 53:08Speaker 1: for a person to say, yes, I want to go
- 53:10Speaker 1: get clean, and and when that happens, we have to
- 53:14Speaker 1: have the support there, not through not three weeks later either.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we have so many services here in Fremont, but
- 53:24Speaker 2: it's like, you know, do we need more services, or
- 53:27Speaker 2: do we need tougher laws? Do we need more preventative action.
- 53:33Speaker 1: It's a combination of everything, JD. It's there's not one
- 53:37Speaker 1: thing that's more important than the other. It's it's it's
- 53:40Speaker 1: a combination of all of them.
- 53:42Speaker 2: What do we have to do to get you with
- 53:48Speaker 2: a suit and tie on in the state House to
- 53:52Speaker 2: speak to our legislators, not just your story aired by
- 54:01Speaker 2: someone else, but your story shared out of your mouth.
- 54:05Speaker 2: What do we have to do?
- 54:07Speaker 1: Well, we have to get a bill presented, an act
- 54:11Speaker 1: or you know or bill I don't I don't know
- 54:13Speaker 1: exactly what it would be called. But and we have
- 54:17Speaker 1: we have the state senator that's willing to do it.
- 54:20Speaker 1: I mean, we obviously have to get her reelected. And
- 54:25Speaker 1: and I think it's common sense really after that. I mean,
- 54:28Speaker 1: how any politician could could vote against it would be
- 54:32Speaker 1: I mean, it would be unbelievable. I mean, I don't
- 54:35Speaker 1: know how you could. I don't know how you could
- 54:37Speaker 1: vote against it.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Thank you. I don't know either. And if if, if you, if,
- 54:45Speaker 2: if you do, I hope we find out your name,
- 54:52Speaker 2: because I'll blast it here. This is something that no
- 54:58Speaker 2: parent should go through. This was your son who was
- 55:05Speaker 2: sober for a long time, and he was even South Oryalton.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, South Oralton during the law school graduation.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Law school graduation ceremony, and he was.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Right there outdoors, yeah, within you know, one hundred feet
- 55:29Speaker 1: of the whole ceremony going on, you.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Know, and and met someone who offered him.
- 55:38Speaker 1: He met the person that gave him the pill, the
- 55:41Speaker 1: one pill that he took that killed him. And they
- 55:46Speaker 1: literally met within one hundred feet of police which were
- 55:51Speaker 1: on every corner. I mean, it's it's ridiculous, Jade. He like,
- 55:57Speaker 1: how it's even possible, really, I.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Mean how did you find out.
- 56:06Speaker 1: I got a phone call like from my brother that
- 56:08Speaker 1: happened to actually out of coincidence. He happened to be right.
- 56:13Speaker 1: He was within one hundred feet where my son died,
- 56:17Speaker 1: and and my mom knew he was there and told
- 56:22Speaker 1: him first, and he ran up there and got on
- 56:24Speaker 1: the phone, and I was I was only like a
- 56:27Speaker 1: couple of minutes up the road, and so I drove
- 56:31Speaker 1: there real quick and was there immediately. And that's how
- 56:36Speaker 1: it started.
- 56:43Speaker 2: And since then, you've you're taking an hour at a time.
- 56:48Speaker 2: You're still working. Yeah, I don't know how you're doing it, Vinny,
- 56:54Speaker 2: but you are.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Somehow My strength comes, you know, from where? Then it's
- 57:05Speaker 1: it's not it's not normal strength right now at this moment.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Yeah, not all of us are would be able to
- 57:14Speaker 2: find something like that, but you are. You're you're coming
- 57:22Speaker 2: on this podcast. This is your second time, and it
- 57:26Speaker 2: definitely will not be the last time. I'll be there
- 57:30Speaker 2: on July eleventh, for folks that can't be, I'll be there.
- 57:35Speaker 2: If I'm not able to stream live, Hopefully we'll get
- 57:39Speaker 2: Wi Fi connected and get a tower up there and
- 57:42Speaker 2: in Royalton it can get spotty, but I'm hoping to
- 57:47Speaker 2: be able to take my audience there to Vincent's campground
- 57:53Speaker 2: on July eleventh, and I'll have some backup means of
- 57:57Speaker 2: recording if I can't get a stream going, but I'm
- 58:00Speaker 2: hoping to.
- 58:01Speaker 1: We'll make sure you have very good WiFi where you
- 58:03Speaker 1: need it.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Okay, I hope that, I hope a lot of things.
- 58:11Speaker 2: I hope a lot of things as a result of this.
- 58:16Speaker 2: But one of the things I'm hoping is that there
- 58:18Speaker 2: will be plenty of discussion on stage from the musicians,
- 58:28Speaker 2: from you, from others, from someone of how critical it
- 58:34Speaker 2: is that we're all pulling in the same direction. Law enforcement, senators,
- 58:47Speaker 2: all legislators, mental health organizations, preventative organizations, rehab and recovery centers,
- 59:01Speaker 2: all services in our state. We're all pulling in the
- 59:07Speaker 2: same direction. But there also has to be we also
- 59:15Speaker 2: have to figure out how to stop the stream of
- 59:26Speaker 2: drugs that are coming into our state. I know we're
- 59:30Speaker 2: never going to be able to slam the brakes on it.
- 59:35Speaker 2: We can't stop every car, every truck that's coming in
- 59:42Speaker 2: our state. But we need to get we need to
- 59:47Speaker 2: start getting a grasp on something here.
- 59:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I have ideas for that too as well. JD. As
- 59:58Speaker 1: community members, we don't have to follow well, it's like
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the police do. We don't. We don't need search warrants.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: You know, we could put trackers on certain people's cars,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: and you know, we can do whatever we want.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: It's what is it going to get to be a
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: point that there's some vigilanteism.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: It's I mean, I'm sure it's already happened. I mean,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: it's but it shouldn't have to happen. I mean, like,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: if you know who killed your kid or whatever, they
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: you know, they should obviously be arrested and that you
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: shouldn't have to deal with that. But right, But I
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: mean I could definitely see how some parents going through
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: this if they didn't get their justice or whatever, it
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: would you know, it could result in something like that.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: There was a day, There was a time here in
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: America where you were able to get your vengeance thirties, forties, fifties, sixties, seventies.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Some say that the mob controlled the law. The mob
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: was behind real accountability.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure they helped the police out a lot
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: back in the day. I'm guessing. Yeah. I grew up
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: in New York City and that's like you didn't have to.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: When I was a young child in New York City
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: living in Leftis Boulevard, I would your story earlier. At
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: the beginning, I had a big wheel. I was riding
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: around up and down Leffords Boulevard. And you know, I
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: think about it now.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Seventies, oh well, late seventies.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Late seventies, early eighties. Yeah, but I think about it now.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: There's like no way anybody would let their kid right
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: up and down street in that area. Nowadays it would
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: be you know, they would take your kid away from
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: being you know, a bad parent. But we all did
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: that as a child.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: And and I think a lot of that protection in
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the city back then was the mob. Nobody mestered people's
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: children back then.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Go, yeah, bing go. I don't know if we'll ever
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: be that way again.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: I doubt it. They did put me in jail real
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: quick before they would actual person that did the crime.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: There's cameras on everywhere. I know. It's different now, different now, Vinnie,
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: anything else that you can think of this morning, Well,
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: it's your time, brother, I know, and you and I
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: are both paper guys.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I just wanted everybody to know and make it, make
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: it clear that the July eleventh event is all free.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I mean, there's no I want people to show up.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I don't want and the economy is real bad, so
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I mean I don't want somebody. Oh I would like
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to go, but I can't afford a cover charge or whatever.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: So and we're the main part reason why we're providing uh,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: you know, tent sites for free as well as because
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: you know, if you're there late, whatever, you had a
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: few beers or something, you don't feel like driving, you
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: can you can stay there. I mean even if you
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: want to sleep in your own car there, you know.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: So I just want people to know it's all free.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Just come have a good time. Spread the word. That's
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: all I ask.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: You know, and remember your son, yeah, and if he
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: didn't know him, honor your son.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean because literally he's going to be there playing.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: My kid's going to be there in spirit, you know,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: all his friends. So you're gonna have a little piece
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: of what my son did you know back in the day.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: We'll be there.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Vincent's Battle Dot a work, as you see right on
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: your monitor, ending the drug crisis in Vermont with help
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: from musicians, politicians in our community and you wrote from
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: my son's death to under the Golden Dome in Montpellier.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Join me on my journey to change law and return
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Vermont to the way it was when we grew up.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: If you can help or contribute in any way, please
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: contact me anytime in your cell phone right there, and
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: we'll put it in the in the comments here right
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: now is eight oh two three four five forty eight
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: fifty four. I'm gonna say it again, and I'm putting
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: it right in the comments right now eight o two
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: three four five forty eight fifty four.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: And if people could try to use text message in
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: it's always better for me because sometimes I'm not in service,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: so I can always get the text message and I'm
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: not answering any messages. If people call and leave message,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I don't even voicemail. Yeah, I don't answer that. Nobody
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: nobody does for I don't know if mine's even set
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: up or not. Mine's not, So use text mess if
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: you want to leave a message, and if I'm in service,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: I'll answer my phone.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Vinny, I think you're a badass.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I think you're doing I think you're just getting started.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, doing some great work. Will this be an
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: annual thing.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Uh No, I think there's gonna be several events this year.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I haven't decided how many. I mean, this is just
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: the first one, and I needed some time to get
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: the first one ready, right, But I'm gonna make that
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: decision real soon. I'm going to post there's a section
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: on the website that's events, and I'm going to post
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: the dates for the future dates. But there are some
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: really special musicians that I want to be at the
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: next event that couldn't make this event. So I'm trying
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: to work. I need to get all everybody's schedules figured
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: out so I can have There's some really big name
