- 0:10SPEAKER_04: We are coming to you from fabulous southeastern South Dakota.

- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Shout out to the hefty crew, all the gang at Ag PhD for the use of this uh awesome studio here and for uh for putting on a heck of a field day.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: Again, I sent Tommy out there to kind of meander around.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: No telling what what sort of trouble he's gonna find himself in, but uh, we're gonna get a report from him on the ground outside, just outside the building here.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: I'm up on the second floor, and heck of a crowd today, heck of a crowd.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Lots of terrific information was delivered today, is being delivered right now.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: They're gonna go till about four o'clock today.
- 1:30SPEAKER_04: They had a perfect day for it.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, for me, I like it a little bit overcast, which is what we've we've got here 80-ish degrees or so, a nice breeze, but not enough.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: It'll blow your hat off, you know, the kind of day that you're looking for.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: They're predicting some rain for later on this afternoon, but uh it looks like we're at least at the moment in the clear for field day.
- 1:53SPEAKER_04: So another uh big thank you to the hefty gang and ag PhD for uh for letting us use the space here and for being so welcoming to me and my squad here at the event.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: The markets were all over the place, as I said earlier.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: I'll get to the settlements, I'll give you the tale of the tape, but first, shameless plug.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Tomorrow, I'm gonna have Mr.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Jim Wiesmeyer on.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: And if I can get here, I'm let's see, he sent me a text a little bit earlier.
- 2:21SPEAKER_04: He and I are just gonna go through.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: If you've seen me talk to Wiesmeyer, I do have an egg timer, and I'm not afraid to use it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: Jim knows that.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: So hopefully he'll be on his best behavior there.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: I'd I'd hate to, I'd hate to have to use the egg timer, but he did send me a very important text just this morning, and I haven't been able to pick up any details on this since, but he texted me small refinery waivers for the two plaintiffs.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: That's HF Sinclair and Delek will be announced by the EPA before August 3rd, according to a briefing filed in U.S.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: court late yesterday.
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: Some reports note an announcement could come Friday.
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: That's tomorrow, about the same time tomorrow.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: I'll have Mr.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: Jim Wiesmeyer himself in the Ag Squawk hot seat.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: I'll be back in Kansas City, USA, coming to you from the ultimate man cave.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: But I'll be uh I'll be hitting the road here just a little bit.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: I might stop down to see if they got any more of those cookies left.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: They put on a free lunch here and everything.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's a it's an amazing thing.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: If you've never been to one of these, you you ought to check one out, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
- 3:26SPEAKER_04: So let's get on to the markets uh just a little bit.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: Daily sale 132,000 metric tons of soybeans to China for 2627.
- 3:35SPEAKER_04: The tail of the tape goes a little something like this: corn and soybean futures were higher in early trade with corn up three, beans up two cents, right out of the gate.
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: Winter wheat futures shot higher by double digits.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: KC futures, you know, it must have been about 9.30 quarter to 10 o'clock central time.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: I looked.
- 3:52SPEAKER_04: KC futures were up 20 cents this morning.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: Weismeyer says wheat surged on worsening export disruptions.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: European and Russian wheat prices rose as attacks and shipping restrictions threatened peak season Black Sea exports.
- 4:06SPEAKER_04: Apparently, the wheats are once again interested in reading the papers, which, you know, plenty to read about.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Meanwhile, off the jump this morning, feeder cattle lower while fat cattle firmed about 40 cents.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: Lean hog futures skidded sharply lower, posting losses of more than three bucks this morning.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: Double the TI crude futures under some pressure to start the day with nearby on either side of unchanged.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: Iran continues to insist that it control passage through the Strait of Hormuz, granting permission to individual vessels rather than accepting an international or jointly managed shipping arrangement.
- 4:41SPEAKER_04: Translation, volatility will continue as we wonder who's in charge, who's gonna be in charge, as we struggle for control over that, or at least quiet in the Strait of Hormuz and smooth sailing, volatility will continue.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: And by the uh the sounds of that uh little note there in the news, it doesn't sound like we're gonna we're gonna have smooth sailing anytime soon.
- 5:05SPEAKER_04: Back to the grains export sales, nothing to write home about really.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: Corn and wheat exports both came in within the range of expectations, although both well below the same week last year.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Soybeans did all right, beat the prior week, and actually were more than double the total from the previous year.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: So pretty decent on the soybean exports in the export sales report today.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: Now, rounding toward lunchtime, corn and beans and wheat futures lost some steam.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: Beans turned negative, wheat futures lost about a dime.
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: Feeder cattle battled back to the upside, but lean hogs would not be moved, still sharply lower.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: And after a light lunch, corn and soybeans pulled the old switcheroo.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: With corn down a few cents, beans clawing back to around unchanged.
- 5:49SPEAKER_04: Wheat was still a dime or better off the highs.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: Feeder cattle came roaring back in an impressive return as hogs came off early session lows.
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: Now, before we get to those closes, let me mention the plus 500 software.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: We use plus 500 T4 software every single day for real-time quotes and a host of other features for futures and options.
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Plus 500, that's plus 500.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Give them a look, gang.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: And here we go.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: Turning over to my plus 500 software.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Let's begin with the December corn down three and a quarter cents on the day, 468 and one half.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: November beans down four cents, even looks like 1188 and three quarters at the settlement.
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: Meal was lower, soybean oil was lower.
- 6:35SPEAKER_04: That's one of the things, incidentally, that I want to talk to Jim Wiesmeier about and on tomorrow's program.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: The the uh evolving relationship between soybean meal and soybean oil.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: He's got some fascinating comments from from one of the higher-ups over at Nopa.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: We'll talk with with Weismeyer about that tomorrow.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: Over to the wheats.
- 6:54SPEAKER_04: I've got uh September Chicago.
- 6:55SPEAKER_04: Let's go December Chicago up three and three quarter cents.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: The December KC wheat only up six after being up 20 well off session highs, 7.46 and three quarters.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: And now over to the livestock.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: The October feeder cattle's down uh up four dollars forty cents.
- 7:14SPEAKER_04: Excuse me, we're in the blue three thirty-four two and a half on the October feeders, October fat cattle up three dollars forty-seven and a half at two twenty-seven forty-five.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: And October Lean Hogs, man, down two dollars thirty-five cents at eighty-three and thirty-five.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: Markets were all over the place.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: That was a long story, it was a long tail of the tape.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: I know, but uh, there was an awful lot of up and down in the market, and we might we might coax Mr.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: Jed Sidwell in here in just a little bit to review some of this with us and see what uh what stuck out to him.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: But first, let's let's uh see if we can get Tommy Grasopi.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: It looks like we've got him here.
- 7:53SPEAKER_04: I've got him on my little monitor screen.
- 7:56SPEAKER_04: Tommy, Tommy Grasopi, the man on the street.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: How are you doing?
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Can you hear me?
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Hello from out there at Field Days.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: What's it look like, brother?
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, looking good.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Internet's a little sketchy.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: I apologize if you can't hear me.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: But uh no, you sound great.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: I'm walking over to a cotton field, and I think that's by far one of the coolest things here.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Zach Hefty planted some cotton, probably one of the only cotton fields in South Dakota.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: It's been dry and uh it actually looks good.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Over here, Davis, we have a it does look pretty good.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you know, cotton could take a beating in the dry weather.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Now, over here we have a rice field.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: So we're in southern South Dakota with rice.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I love it, what they're doing here.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: And as you walk around, guys, and you go through each plot, the hefty boys, Mr.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Darren and Brian, they're gonna jump back in the wagons here and they get up on these big things and they explain every single plot.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: We tried this corn, we tried this bean, we tried this spray.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, you have all the vendors all over here.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, just a magnificent day.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: The weather held out, and you have vendors that provide a lot of the chemicals and the nutrition and biologicals and all the fancy stuff.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what I'm talking about, but I'm making stuff up.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I hear people talk about it on the agronomy shows.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, there's Rob Sharkey over there, guys.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Is that the shark farmer?
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I believe it is the shark farmer.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: That's Rob Sharky, everybody.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Hold on, we're live.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: Chase him down, chase him down.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Chase him down.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: We're live, Mr.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Rob Sharky.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: It's TMZ right here.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Can I touch it?
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Can I touch the sharky?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I love that guy talking about the beard.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Rob Sharky live from the ag PhD 2026 field day.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just good stuff here.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Good, you know, I don't farm.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I but I I love the energy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: It brings it brings all sorts of different people, doesn't it?
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: We were at a little reception last night.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, little wing ding.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: And man, there were just people all across the ag spectrum, weren't there?
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a lot of a lot of interesting people, technology from Germany, technology from Canada, people from all over.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Interesting partnerships the hefty family has with different media people.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: The good folks from Farm Progress were here.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And the the Hefty boys are so good at doing a field day that Farm Progress partnered up with them.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And in some ways they compete, but also in some ways they're like, you know what, we're all in this together.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: You guys really got the field day model down.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Come to Iowa this year and show us how to do it.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: So a lot of positive vibes.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: When you get everyone in the egg, say we're all in this together, Davis.
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_04: Well, and and I would say, you know, I don't want to let this go by in case uh our beloved viewers tuned in to see me yesterday.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: Instead, they were treated to see you.
- 10:51SPEAKER_04: And I just wanted to say what a great job that you did.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: You and uh and your brother Joe covered the show very well uh yesterday afternoon as I was traveling up here to South Dakota.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Well done, sir.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you, Davis.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: It's uh it's it's different.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I didn't I'm uh it's hard what you do.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: I used to I'm used to going off the cuff and you're very racism, disciplined, and I know the v and you were generous, but when I did my speech date uh yes, sir?
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Well I we offered a half off.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: You offered what?
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Say again, we lost you.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Anyone who showed up this morning to the meeting, we offered a half off premium, but they had to show up to the meeting.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: I said, y'all got up at 5 30, 6 o'clock to see me.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: And that deal's done.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: You had to be there in person.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: But five new subscribers just based on the morning meeting, and they a lot of positive things, a lot of a lot of people are excited to see you actually have a face.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Can you explain how behind how you hid behind the big leafy microphone and they thought you were the faceless man?
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:55SPEAKER_04: I spent 13 years preaching that I was the handsome newsman, and now here I am in front of the uh camera for my come up and the truth finally comes out.
- 12:04SPEAKER_04: And I will say, you know, you did do a great job.
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: Jed and I appreciate the props, the the appreciation for what we go through to put together a show today.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: I will say it did take two grissafis to fill to fill my handsome news shoes yesterday on uh on Xbox.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: That's nice.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: You guys want to see a beautiful sunflower field?
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: This is amazing.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't even know what this stuff is.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: I'll just start making stuff up.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: Those are onions, like kale, might be kale.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, look at this.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: The sunflowers are saying bad, they know it's gonna rain.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, look at the cars.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Look at the people, Davis.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: So many people.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Look at this.
- 12:41SPEAKER_04: Just this was my first time coming down or coming up here for this.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: How many uh, how many years have you have you been up here for this?
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: Is this this isn't your first, is it?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: No, this is not my first rodeo.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: This is the uh fourth year I've been here.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: They invited me to speak.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: It's fun.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: I I I several people came up to me from Iowa that I have relationships with and doing past stuff.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: People I spoke with, maybe they used to work at Pioneer, but they've moved on.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: And there's so many new chemicals that are using not chemicals, there's so many more oh ags changed.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: The technology side of ags changed, the agronomy side of ags really changed.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Hardware is kind of hardware.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: You know, you need something to put it in and get it out, and there's some technology on that.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: But the my friends who used to work at traditional seed companies have really broke off into the micronutrient companies.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And I have to ask them, what do you do?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, we make something that helps sugar beets grow better.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And they all got names for it in technology.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: And it's the type of thing you just can't put it on your crop once and say, yeah, it works, buy it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Like they have to test it.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And that's what this plot is all about.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: This is about the hefty boys trying some really crazy stuff and saying, you know what, that doesn't work.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: We tried that five years in a row.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Don't do that.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: But you know what is working?
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: This, we've been trying that.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: They're experimenting, you know, they're experimenting on their dime.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Beautiful day here.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they were expecting, as I understand, 10,000 attendees.
- 14:03SPEAKER_04: Do you think we got there?
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: I think it looked like it was closed.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it was close.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: The weather truly held out.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: It ends at it ends at four.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: And uh, you could see people are lining up over there for the ice cream man, and the kids are having fun.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, look at that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Ice cream, you scream, we all scream.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: The kids got a little play area, some tractors, just fun stuff.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Look at this corn.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Talk about children of the corn.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Should I walk through the corn?
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, get right in there.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: You think I'll get murdered?
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: That's what they always say.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: Well, you don't know what's in there until you get out there, so let's get out there.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: Let's have a look.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: Is that oh no, the corn's got him?
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: The corn's got him.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: This is crazy.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: He needs a machete.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: He needs a machete.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: We did it.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: We did it.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: Any observation?
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: What else you need from me, but yeah.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of shy on the microphone.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: I should probably go.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: I want to thank everyone who subscribed lately.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: Well, I tell you what, I charge by the pound.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: If you can make your way up here, I gotta I got an extra mic sitting here.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Otherwise, maybe go get some ice cream.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: That's up to you, you know.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: No, I'm I'm eastbounding down, I'm coming your way.
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: Roger that.
- 15:25SPEAKER_04: Roger that.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: That's uh that's Tommy Grasopi.
- 15:28SPEAKER_04: Agriculture's next to us, man.
- 15:32SPEAKER_04: Um with that, why don't I bring in bring in Jed Sidwell?
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: Jed, is it okay?
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: You mind if I bring you in?
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: We didn't really plan to uh to have you in here, but uh bro.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: The the feeder cattle, the the cattle in general, and then we've got the hogs.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, such a volatile day.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: I don't wanna I don't want to put you through your paces too hard here, but what what is it that you feel like we need to know is significant about today's cattle market action?
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: You know, it it's interesting time that we have this front end supply that Mr.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Mike Sands keeps on talking about has an effect on this market where we really don't know what the next month will look like with regards to what kind of cattle we can put on feed, especially with our southern border opening up.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: At first, a lot of people were speculating a pile of cattle we're gonna come across that new entry point that'll open here within a couple weeks.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: It's not really looking like that.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: It's probably gonna be a slow trickle because with quarantines and things like that.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: It's not gonna be the 7,000 cattle pots lined up at the border, ready to go, that they haven't been feeding for a couple of years.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be just kind of a modest amount.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: It's the wrong time of year to be feeding Mexican cattle as well, Davis.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Those eared ones don't necessarily like the northern winters.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 16:48SPEAKER_04: Let me ask, I don't know if you if you know the answer to this question, but all those have have cattle been backing up in Mexico?
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: And I mean, obviously they they got to go somewhere through all this this new world screw room and the border closure and all that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I mean, what's it a year and a half?
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: Is it longer than that that this has been going on with the border closure?
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: I don't even remember yeah exactly when it closed.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: Where the where have those cattle been going?
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: It was right before I joined Nesvik Trading with my internship.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: This is before I actually was an ag bully like I am now.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: I I was just the measly intern that was supposed to go on lunch that April, I think, right before April 2025, I believe was uh when the border closed.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: And right then we just shut off the border, and it's not like those cattle, they're just like, well, we'll kick them out on grass, and right, yes, we'll wait three years, I guess, until we have to feed them again.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: They got fed within Mexico, Davis.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: They've gotten better, their feed yards have developed, their supply chains have gotten better, their packing houses have grown.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: Not to mention, I'm sure they've developed a taste, a taste for higher quality beef down there.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Seems how they have just more of it available.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 18:00SPEAKER_04: Very good.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: Hogs fell out of bed here, and it it's not like technically they feel toppy to me.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: I look at the October contract at 8335, down 235 today.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: I'm not quite sure what to make of this.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: You got any perspective on the hogs?
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like that old Geico commercial, if you remember it, with the pig sticking his head out the windshield going wee all the way down today.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: It's pretty dang high where we've been sitting at triple digits there in the front month of August for a little while.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: If you look on down the board, that when prices are lower like that.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Uh in later months, it's normally an indication that something like that will happen.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: I'm not a hog expert, but I do think we've had a better job of mitigating this PERRS disease that we've had throughout some of these farrowing houses.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: The sows are more productive than ever.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: We're doing a great job with medicated systems to keep these hogs healthy this time of year and pushing into the fall.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: That's when gain's really cheap on turning over these hogs quick.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: So we have more of them.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: It's yeah, yeah.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: What happens to the market?
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, you know what?
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: I was gonna ask you something on cattle.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Secretary Rollins was in was it Douglas, Arizona?
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: Was that earlier today or maybe yesterday?
- 19:14SPEAKER_04: It's a little foggy for me.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: I've been traveling, living that hotel life just a little bit, but I know that she was there$25 million toward the the New World screw worm fight.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: Jed, that does that doesn't sound to me like a price tag that that says, everything's fine.
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: There's nothing to worry about here.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: Your thoughts.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was yesterday, and it caught me off guard as well.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Because yeah, we're opening the border, everything's fine.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: You look on the map, the the screw worm map that we've been tracing, there's the orange boxes and there's the blue ones, and the blue ones where they've had screw worm and then they've contained it.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: There's been a lot more blue boxes popping up recently, and it seems like it's staying pretty far down south.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: And then we come out and say that we're investing all of this money into this problem.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: The only thing that makes me, you know, maybe optimistic that this is happening is that what eventually the goal will be to push it back down to the Panama Canal.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: If we can, you know, increase our domestic supply of those sterilized flies.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: I think we could help do that.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: Well, we've done it before, you know, it's been a while, but but we'll we'll shake the dust off of our techniques and and get that handled.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: We trading weather in the grains right now, the corn and soybeans.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Is this a weather market?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's it's a mixed bag of weather, Davis.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Everyone's talking about this rain.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Craig Solberg, that was his big headline, is that lookout for the rain in kind of the northern corn belt this weekend, and it's gonna be much needed, and it's really gonna push this crop along.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: But at the same time, man, the planes are getting burnt up.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, Garden City hitting 111 or something like that.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: That's I mean, just unsustainable.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: We're in week two of that into you know what most people would call fringe corn states, but there's still a lot of you know, center pivot country where if we need the water extra bad that you know, corn's starting to look pretty crispy.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: I'd like to see weed hold on to some of those early morning gains today.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: And you know, if you if you showed up and just looked at the settlements, you'd think, oh, that's that's a pretty decent date.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: No, we gave an awful lot back today over the course of the session.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I kind of had to put my foot in my mouth because in Ag Squawk AM this morning, I popped up the big overnight rally graphic because they were all in the green uh overnight, and we maybe saw a few flashes of red, but things were still holding firm as I recorded seven o'clock this morning.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: And yeah, now we've essentially back to unchanged or lower on across the board.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_04: I heard you mention on on this morning's program.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: Good job, by the way.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: You always do such a good job on that morning show.
- 21:47SPEAKER_04: I I watch it every day to kind of get my head around what the what the markets are maybe gonna do.
- 21:53SPEAKER_04: A good conversation about the overnights and always good stuff on cattle, which I can't I can't get enough good information on on cattle.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: I find it very helpful.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: But you did mention that you're back in Joliet, back in the home office.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: Talk to me about the weather.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: How's it look over there today?
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: It's been fine today.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Really nice.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Obviously, a bit of a humidity change from going from Colorado to here.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: But yeah, rains on the forecast for this weekend.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Nice and pleasant today.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: Well, I do have the National Weather Service forecast here as uh I think I hear the pitter patter of Gersopi feet outside the door there.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: Dangerous heat will remain across portions of the southern U.S.
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: through the weekend.
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: A heat wave over the southwest will intensify this week, peaking and expanding into the intermountain west and northern high plains this weekend.
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: Severe thunderstorms will produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall over portions of the northern and central plains into the mid to upper Mississippi valleys today.
- 22:53SPEAKER_04: I just wanted to really quick check my phone here and see what we're sitting at locally there.
- 22:58SPEAKER_04: It didn't looks like Tommy's coming in from the outside.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: He's dry.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: He's uh there's no rain outside just quite yet.
- 23:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we're here in Baltic, South Dakota.
- 23:07SPEAKER_04: Ooh, rain expected to start here in Baltic, South Dakota at uh in 25 minutes.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Is that working?
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Give us a chest hello.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: Check one, two, two.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: I think we got him.
- 23:17SPEAKER_04: I think we got him.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: Um Tommy, you're you're just in time for a little bit of fun.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: You ready?
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: You don't even need to pump my head in dude.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: Uh you can.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Alright, that's enough of that.
- 23:26SPEAKER_04: I got Tommy Gersapi right here.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: Jed, can you hear him alright?
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: Is he coming through good?
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: Is he coming up?
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Hold it a little closer to your face, Tommy.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Hold it a little closer to your face.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Check one, two, one, two, three.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: Is this your first time or something?
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: Here, I'm gonna pump you up just a little bit right over here.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: This is uh we're we're uh we're following.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: I just met uh a millennial cattle girl, and I said my friend Sidwell Cattle, her name's uh Callie Williams, millennial rancher.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: She goes, I know Sigwell Cattle.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Ho ho ho.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Ho ho.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Well, it's awesome to hear.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: I had a funny story.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: I had someone text me this morning, like, hey, do you know that Tommy Grassoffee guy?
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: I'm like, well, unfortunately, I do.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: He's here speaking.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: I was like, well, avoid him like the plague.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Don't go talk to him.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: He's super not fun to go up and talk to him in person.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: He's calling you out.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: He's uh somebody said, Hey, do you know that Tommy Grasafi?
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: Sure enough, we absolutely do.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: Tommy, I'm gonna I'm gonna pull you in for some items of mild interest.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: Are you ready to be mildly interested?
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: Hold that up nice and close to your face so we can hear I'm ready, baby.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: How mild ooh, oh, he may have a future in radio, possibly.
- 24:34SPEAKER_04: It's National Cheesecake Day today, it's July 30th.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: Rumored that the Greeks invented cheesecake.
- 24:41SPEAKER_04: In fact, there are historic accounts of Greek athletes being rewarded with a decadent dessert known as cheesecake in ancient Greece.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: A recipe for this tasty treat appears to have been written by a physician a gemas and is dated back over 2,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest recipes we know about.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: Pro tip, fellas, pay attention.
- 25:01SPEAKER_04: Get your lady a cheesecake today.
- 25:03SPEAKER_04: Tell her it's national cheesecake day.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: She will love it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: She will love it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: See what happens.
- 25:09SPEAKER_04: Bring home a cheesecake, give it a try.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: In 1975, the Teamsters Union leader Jimmy Hoffa disappeared.
- 25:17SPEAKER_04: So disappears in 1975, declared dead in 1982.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: It takes a while sometimes.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:23SPEAKER_04: I was just watching a movie.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you've seen it.
- 25:25SPEAKER_04: Is it The Irishman?
- 25:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_04: With De Niro and Joe Pesci.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: And it's like they unaged them or something using computers.
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: I don't know how I feel about that.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: It's hard to follow it.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I've watched it three times.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: It's a little long.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: I'm starting to understand it.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: But it's a good movie.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: You gotta be it's more of a winter movie.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: It's not some.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: If the weather's nice, you're not watching the other thing.
- 25:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_04: I'd give you that.
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: Goodfellas or casino.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Definitely goodfellows 100% of the time.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Excellent.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Excellent.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: Good fellows goodfellows or godfather.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: Ooh, Goodfellows are the godfather.
- 25:57SPEAKER_04: Chad wants to know.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: Godfather all the way.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: The godfather himself.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Tell Jed I'm going to make an offering to you.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: Well, in 1863, Henry Ford, American engineer and businessman, founded the Ford Motor Company on this date.
- 26:13SPEAKER_04: A quote from Mr.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Ford, and this is good for all of us here, especially perhaps in the farming world.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: And finally, are you are you ready for today's Ag Bull injustice?
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: It's going to happen whether we're ready or not.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: This is going to be good.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: This is going to be good.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: It's not going to make us do this.
- 26:41SPEAKER_04: Here we go.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: On this day in 1956, President Dwight D.
- 26:45SPEAKER_04: Eisenhower signed legislation making In God We Trust the official motto of the United States.
- 26:52SPEAKER_04: The following year, the phrase began appearing on the nation's currency.
- 26:55SPEAKER_04: The phrase replaced the country's long-standing unofficial motto from before, which was featured on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: Before In God We Trust, what was the national motto, Tommy Grassofi?
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: I think it was Latin, right?
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: It was some Latin saying.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: It was Latin.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: But that's I do like Inverno, like it's still on money today, right?
- 27:22SPEAKER_04: You're thinking Invino Veritas, which is a whole different thing.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: Well, that's that's in wine life.
- 27:29SPEAKER_04: It's e plurbus unum, that one, which is translated out of many, one.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: So I guess you know it was Latin, right?
- 27:37SPEAKER_04: It was Latin.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: It was Latin.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: It absolutely was Latin.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: I was gonna guess raise hell, praise Dale, and I don't think that was right.
- 27:44SPEAKER_04: This is all an injustice, an absolute injustice.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: I've got Jim Weismeyer on the show tomorrow afternoon.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: We're gonna talk RFS.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: I don't know if you caught it, but he sent me a text.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: He's very excited this morning.
- 27:57SPEAKER_04: He said we might have something actually concrete on the RFS tomorrow.
- 28:01SPEAKER_04: Which how awesome would that be to have him on the day that something from our RFS actually comes out?
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Secretary Rollins in Arizona, which which Jed and I talked about just a moment ago, announces$25 million in funding to fight New World Screw Room.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: The changing balance between soybean oil and soymeal, and Beijing threatens retaliation as US closes door on Chinese robots.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: Don't miss it tomorrow afternoon with Jim Weismeyer.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: And of course, you and Jim, you've uh you've basically got a standing uh golf date on Sunday afternoons that you use to record podcasts.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's just working out best by Sundays.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: And the reason we do that is when work's done with Friday, we're all tired.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: And then Saturday's truly our day off.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: And then mentally, I get prepared for the markets on Sunday, and Jim likes to work.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: He he hustles.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: And then also Davis says, you know, we're we get along with Iran all week, but then on Sundays we start fighting on Friday at four when the markets close, we start fighting with them again.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then you're doing your show prep for you.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, they are Sunday, a half hour for the markets open, we get everything fixed and uh rinse, wash, and repeat.
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: The Straight of Hermuz now has hours.
- 29:06SPEAKER_04: Excellent, excellent.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Well, you'll be on top of those hours.
- 29:10SPEAKER_04: One of the ways that Tommy stays on top of the news, trade the news.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: Ham-handed segue here.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: Trade the news keeps my squad updated on all the happenings that move the market.
- 29:20SPEAKER_04: Get useful news, useful news from trade the news.
- 29:23SPEAKER_04: That's trade the news.
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: And may I direct you to agbol.com where you can dig deeper with Ag Bull Intel.
- 29:31SPEAKER_04: Take the markets by the horns with Agbol.com, 855-737 Farm, 855-737 Farm or visit AgBull.com.
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: How can people afford not to?
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: Am I right, Tommy?
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: I I think we're putting out really good information.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: The feature I like the best is the ability to call the desk.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of farmers and ranchers that already work with other brokers.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: We're not trying to break up those relationships.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: But as you and I said, did you talk about how we went on a date last night and went to Sioux Falls?
- 29:58SPEAKER_04: I mentioned that we were out, you know, hanging around and carousing a little bit with the AG PhD squad.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: What was the scene from the where we walked on the railroad tracks?
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, from Stand By Me.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: What'd you bring a comb for, Vern?
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: You don't even have any hair.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we had fun last night.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: But you and I were talking that you know the people want, like, say you hurt yourself and you hurt your knee and the doctor says you need this.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: You go, I trust you, but I just want to get a second opinion.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're bouncing some ideas off us.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: We're bouncing ideas off of them.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: So when people subscribe, we say, Hey, what do you want to see more of?
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Hey, I want to see this.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And having the resources we have with yourself, Jed, myself, Mr.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Jim, and maybe even a few others.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: You know, I put the bat signal out there.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: If you're out there in agricultural media and you're looking to be part of a group, well, we'll see what we could do, you know.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Your bat signal has a uh soundtrack and it's uh it's uh sexy, dare I say.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Very sexy.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: The good folks at Farm Progress, that's why it was late.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: They were on their golf cart and they saw us like man on the street, and they said, Are you coming to Farm Progress Days?
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: Please register as media.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: You guys can use the media tent the whole time.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: You know how good the internet's there.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: So if you and I or Jed would like to go to Farm Progress, yeah, I believe in the first week of September, we can go to the media tent and interview people and do a setup just like this.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: So maybe that's something we'll think about.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: That's exciting.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: They think we're media.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Excellent, excellent.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: It's a it's a bold new world.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: As far as the uh the premium side, yeah, we're we're building.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: You're you've you know, a lot of you have been good enough to catch our shows very faithfully here on Ag Squawk and Ag Squawk in the morning, and we appreciate that.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: We're building, you know, and we want to build right along with you all, and we want to build this the way that you that you want it to be and that you would find the most useful.
- 31:41SPEAKER_04: And the and our premium side is no different.
- 31:44SPEAKER_04: All right, I'm gonna shut her down from there.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: I got to get back on the road, head back to Kansas City to the ultimate man cave.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Jed Sidwell will be back in the morning to get you set up with a taste of that Ag Bull Intel to get you on the right foot for your day in the markets.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: And then, as I said, as I've been plugging the whole show, I've got Wee Smeyer on Ag Squawk in the afternoon.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: Thanks to Ag PhD, thanks to the hefty crew, and uh thanks to Tommy Grassofi, the man on the street today.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, thanks for watching.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: We'll be back tomorrow afternoon, gang.
