- 0:17Speaker 2: of Hudson and Carroll Drive around 2 o'clock this morning.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The 24-year-old driver was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Investigators are now seeking any witnesses or surveillance footage from
- 0:29Speaker 2: the area in the lead-up and the aftermath. Information should
- 0:32Speaker 2: be passed along to the Lab West Detachment, 709-944-7602. Provincial
- 0:40Speaker 2: government spending another $ 4 million to help with revitalization of
- 0:45Speaker 2: a marine facility on the northeast coast which has fallen
- 0:49Speaker 2: into disrepair. Government had previously committed $ 10 million to help
- 0:53Speaker 2: with bringing the wharf and port in Lewisport back to life,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and yesterday boosted that by $ 4 million. The Minister of
- 1:01Speaker 2: Transportation and Infrastructure, Barry Pettin, says the money will help
- 1:05Speaker 2: Lewisport advance its vision for transforming the facility into a
- 1:09Speaker 2: catalyst for economic development. Lewisport used to be the gateway
- 1:13Speaker 2: to the north, providing ferry service to and from Labrador.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He says supporting rural Newfoundland and Labrador remains a key
- 1:21Speaker 2: component of its economic strategy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It's quicker as soon as they can, basically, is what
- 1:26Speaker 1: the mayor is telling me and everyone interested. There's groups
- 1:29Speaker 1: out there that are waiting for this wharf to be developed,
- 1:31Speaker 1: to set up business, their research vessels and what have you.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And I just think it's a great day for the town.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And it's excitement on the ground out there. I mean,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think it'll be a good thing.
- 1:45Speaker 2: RCMP in Nova Scotia say there are insufficient grounds to
- 1:49Speaker 2: lay charges following the death of a 13-year-old boy attacked
- 1:52Speaker 2: by three dogs in January. Police say the boy, later
- 1:56Speaker 2: identified as Drew Nickerson, was attacked on January 3rd by
- 2:00Speaker 2: two cane corsoes and a rottweiler as he rode his
- 2:04Speaker 2: bike in the rural community of Welch Town in Nova Scotia.
- 2:08Speaker 2: The attack saw an outpouring of support from across the country,
- 2:11Speaker 2: including more than $ 150, 000 in donations to the boys' family.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Mounties say their eight-month investigation included video footage, interviews with
- 2:21Speaker 2: neighbors and witnesses, and a review of information from the
- 2:24Speaker 2: medical examiner's offices. The dogs involved in the attack have
- 2:28Speaker 2: been euthanized. Charges laid against two women in connection with
- 2:32Speaker 2: a protest at Confederation Building in St. John's nearly two
- 2:35Speaker 2: years ago have been stayed. That decision was delivered in St.
- 2:39Speaker 2: John's Provincial Court this morning. In November of 2024, the
- 2:43Speaker 2: group known as Protect NL brought a large, colourful boat
- 2:47Speaker 2: into the parking lot of Confederation Building to demonstrate against
- 2:51Speaker 2: proposed wind energy development in the province. After repeated requests
- 2:55Speaker 2: to remove the boat, the RNC recalled that Brenda Lee
- 2:59Speaker 2: Kitchen and Jennifer Whiteway were arrested and charged with unlawful
- 3:03Speaker 2: occupation of government property. That's your news. I'm Brian Madour.
