- 0:00Aloha. Monday morning in Hawaiʻi, and trade winds are still pushing hard. I'm Mele with what's happening today.
- 1:22Light showers are moving through windward slopes on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu right now — nothing heavy, just typical trade-wind moisture. Leeward and south-facing areas stay mostly dry. If you're heading to a windward hike today, bring a light rain layer but don't let it stop you.
- 1:36Surf is moderate on both sides of Oʻahu — 4.2 feet on the south shore, 4.1 on the north. Kauaʻi's running 5.4, so watch for rip currents if you're there. Maui and the Big Island are calm, making them solid snorkel days.
- 1:47Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is operating with some temporary closures — Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and the Lava Tube Bridge are all offline. The park is at advisory level for volcanic ash, so check conditions if you're heading to the Big Island.
- 2:00If you're taking a boat tour this week, rough water can catch you off guard — and if you're prone to seasickness, our new piece on the site breaks down what actually works. Medications, when to take them, where to sit on the boat, and which tours to skip on swelly days. It's the kind of practical stuff that makes the difference between a good cruise and a miserable one.
- 2:19Trades ease starting Wednesday, and a bigger swell arrives next weekend. Plan your south-facing beach days before Friday when conditions shift.
- 2:26Our boat-tour seasickness guide is on the site. See you tomorrow.
