- 0:00Speaker 1: I was driving in here to do the show, as
- 0:02Speaker 1: you know, twenty or twenty five minutes ago, and I
- 0:05Speaker 1: heard somebody call it. There's a lot of talk about
- 0:07Speaker 1: swimming pools this morning, and somebody called in and Lucy Immediate,
- 0:13Speaker 1: was that Chip Maxwell? It was not, But I was
- 0:16Speaker 1: chuckling because if I, you know, it was maybe Chip
- 0:19Speaker 1: Maxwell with a cold. If I, if I, if I
- 0:21Speaker 1: kind of pinch my nose and beak a little deeper
- 0:24Speaker 1: and throw a baby Ruth in the deep end of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the pool. If the it could almost work, I could
- 0:30Speaker 1: see how she thought that. But no, but you you
- 0:33Speaker 1: are free to take advantage of the talkback mic on
- 0:37Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app and join our conversation. So I'm with
- 0:41Speaker 1: you today and I'll finish out the week Thursday and Friday.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I am not able to join you tomorrow. Wednesday morning
- 0:49Speaker 1: is when we record our retire smart radio show heard
- 0:52Speaker 1: on these airwaves Saturday morning at ten Sunday morning at
- 0:56Speaker 1: nine on News Radio eleven ten KFABE. So apparently they
- 1:01Speaker 1: got a couple guys. I'm kind of flattered. It's gonna
- 1:03Speaker 1: take two people to take my place. A couple guys
- 1:07Speaker 1: named Gary and Jim I don't know. I hope they're
- 1:10Speaker 1: up to it. I hope they can handle it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Peyton will be here, so everything will be fine. But no,
- 1:16Speaker 1: of course, I'm speaking of radio legend Jim Rose and
- 1:21Speaker 1: radio legend emeritus Gary Saddlemyer. They will be holding down
- 1:26Speaker 1: the fort tomorrow. My goodness, Peyton, you have enough on
- 1:32Speaker 1: your hands trying to wrangle Chris Baker in the afternoons.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You're gonna have Gary and Jim in here tomorrow. Oh,
- 1:40Speaker 1: my goodness, the h I just hope, I hope those two.
- 1:45Speaker 1: What I want is a recreation of Peyton. You might
- 1:50Speaker 1: not be familiar with this, but years ago May, many
- 1:53Speaker 1: years ago, those two did a little bit Gary in
- 1:59Speaker 1: person needed Richard Nixon admiring the stylings of Karen Carpenter.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now if I say the Carpenters, Karen Carpenter and no, nothing,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's over. Yeah, no, no, that's all right, my young paduan.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You know you, in time you will come to know
- 2:20Speaker 1: all these things. But of course the singer Karen Carpent Anyway, Satomer, well,
- 2:25Speaker 1: first of all, his impression of Nixon is hilarious. But
- 2:29Speaker 1: the thing that's even better about it, and never gets
- 2:32Speaker 1: old Jim Rose. Well, I say it's a bit that
- 2:36Speaker 1: those two did. It was really Gary's bit, and Jim
- 2:39Speaker 1: is reduced to, I don't know what to call it,
- 2:43Speaker 1: a giggling puddle of goo. Jim Rose unable to form words.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't know if that has ever happened any other
- 2:52Speaker 1: time when he's been on a microphone. But he's just
- 2:55Speaker 1: convulsing in hysterics at I don't maybe it can't be recreated.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Maybe that was just it can never be replicated. Well,
- 3:05Speaker 1: go into the archives. Then go to the archives and
- 3:07Speaker 1: find it tomorrow and play it. Oh my goodness, all right,
- 3:13Speaker 1: the so Gary Jim will cover tomorrow. I'll be back
- 3:16Speaker 1: with you to finish out the week. And I know,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I know the calendar says summer doesn't begin till what
- 3:24Speaker 1: you know, middle or late June. Hey Memorial days in
- 3:27Speaker 1: the rearview mirror, it's summertime. The weather is certainly reflecting that.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So Thursday and Friday, i'll put you on bumper alert.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Dow Peyton, I'm going to send you some what I
- 3:39Speaker 1: call the Oak Hills Pool Playlist. I spent six glorious
- 3:45Speaker 1: years growing up in Ralston, age fourd age ten and
- 3:49Speaker 1: we belong to the oak Hills Pool, and so the
- 3:53Speaker 1: playlist on Thursday and Friday, that's going to be the tunes.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I remember hearing over the speakers at the oak Hills
- 3:59Speaker 1: Pool and Lston. So you've got that to look forward
- 4:01Speaker 1: to this week, folks. All right, four oh two, five, five,
- 4:05Speaker 1: eight eleven ten Comment at kfab dot com. Talkback Mike
- 4:09Speaker 1: on the iHeartRadio app. We still have a little Memorial
- 4:12Speaker 1: Day business to do here. I hope you had a
- 4:14Speaker 1: great weekend, Peyton. How was your Memorial Day weekend? I
- 4:17Speaker 1: had a really good weekend, you know. And you had
- 4:19Speaker 1: a lot of birthdays going on.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Yes, yes, my future father in law had a birthday
- 4:22Speaker 3: on Saturday and my fiance had a birthday yesterday on
- 4:26Speaker 3: Memorial Day.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh, this was a high stakes weekend for you.
- 4:29Speaker 3: High stakes. I was tasked with a lot of relationship building,
- 4:34Speaker 3: a lot of interactions. I was very busy, but it
- 4:36Speaker 3: was a law Yeah. We went golfing on Sunday morning.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Excuse me, Saturday morning. Okay, you had a beautiful day
- 4:44Speaker 3: for beautiful day at tibron I'd never golfed at Tibroan before,
- 4:47Speaker 3: and let's just say that I got my money's worth.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So do I. I see the whole course. I see
- 4:54Speaker 1: the whole course.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what if I'm gonna pay for
- 4:56Speaker 3: the golf, see, I'm gonna get my I'm gonna get
- 4:59Speaker 3: my value.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 1: A lot of swings in a lot of shots. Yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I know it was really happening. He let the father
- 5:04Speaker 1: in law win. It's his birthday. It's a well played,
- 5:08Speaker 1: well played Peyton. I told you this, this guy, he's
- 5:11Speaker 1: mature beyond his years, Peyton Highlich well good. Friday was
- 5:16Speaker 1: not beautiful whether why is rainy? Miserable and windy? Alas
- 5:21Speaker 1: we were not able to unfurl the world's largest flag
- 5:26Speaker 1: at Memorial Park. But I caught some of Scott earlier
- 5:30Speaker 1: this morning. But the show did go on, magnificent drone show,
- 5:34Speaker 1: Ronan Tynan singing. And so not only was Friday a
- 5:39Speaker 1: wind but then Sunday and Lincoln and then back here
- 5:42Speaker 1: Monday morning. It was a little bittersweet coming in here
- 5:46Speaker 1: and entering the Dundee Memorial Area to here, to the
- 5:50Speaker 1: home of the fifty thousand watt legacy blowtorch. Only the
- 5:56Speaker 1: porta potties and the big tent are left at Memorial Park.
- 5:59Speaker 1: The flag are gone, The towers of remembrance, the towers
- 6:02Speaker 1: honoring the fallen, they're gone. They're packed away until next
- 6:05Speaker 1: Memorial Day. But God bless Bill and Von Williams. They
- 6:09Speaker 1: must they're going to sleep all week. I imagine this week,
- 6:12Speaker 1: what a what a workout Memorial Day weekend is for them,
- 6:17Speaker 1: But the rest of us certainly appreciate it. I have
- 6:22Speaker 1: a Memorial Day chaser for you. This is from Sarge
- 6:28Speaker 1: Serge who was the listener a few weeks ago. Well,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I think it was a month or so ago when
- 6:32Speaker 1: I sat in before and the Blue Dot building at
- 6:36Speaker 1: one hundred and fourteenth in Dutch. Turns out it's a
- 6:39Speaker 1: closed burger king and that's what's left of the logo,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but it does look exactly like the Blue Dot on
- 6:45Speaker 1: the sides. Sarge was wondering, was that that's some headquarters
- 6:49Speaker 1: building for the Blue Dot movement. Well this is that
- 6:53Speaker 1: same Serge. A little more serious note here. This is
- 6:58Speaker 1: something well i'll just let Sarge tell it in Sarge's
- 7:03Speaker 1: own words, something that kind of found me a pretty
- 7:09Speaker 1: cool story. I first want to say that my appreciation
- 7:15Speaker 1: for our vets and service people really increased after my
- 7:20Speaker 1: grandfather died in two thousand and six and I learned
- 7:24Speaker 1: that he had the job of cleaning up the battlefields
- 7:28Speaker 1: in World War Two. I had only known about his
- 7:31Speaker 1: trumpet playing in the US Army Band when he boosted
- 7:34Speaker 1: the morale of troops, and even once played before the
- 7:36Speaker 1: Queen of England. He didn't talk about the funerals that
- 7:40Speaker 1: he also played at. My grandfather was the most christ
- 7:44Speaker 1: like and joyful person that I've ever met, and I
- 7:47Speaker 1: think that's because he was grateful, and I am so grateful,
- 7:53Speaker 1: So it's no wonder that God would want me to
- 7:55Speaker 1: meet another soul who dedicated his life to remembering. Back
- 8:00Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen, when I was in my thirties, I
- 8:03Speaker 1: was driving through a neighborhood in downtown Papillion when I
- 8:05Speaker 1: was captured by a wonderful display of patriotism in someone's yard.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Because I was so touched, I decided to take a picture.
- 8:14Speaker 1: As I did that, a man suddenly approached and startled me.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I thought I had some explaining to do, but he
- 8:20Speaker 1: just wanted to borrow my camera. He and his wife
- 8:22Speaker 1: were handling the estate of someone across the street and
- 8:26Speaker 1: needed to take a picture of a piano to sell.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I was, of course glad to help. The man I
- 8:32Speaker 1: met had taught school and coached in a rural Nebraska
- 8:37Speaker 1: town in his free time, and during retirement, he went
- 8:42Speaker 1: on a quest to record every story of wartime commitment
- 8:47Speaker 1: and sacrifice that he could find, mostly in northeastern Nebraska.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I bought the four volumes on the spot, so that
- 8:56Speaker 1: the four volume compilation that this man had put together
- 9:00Speaker 1: over the years, Sarge says, I bought the four volumes
- 9:04Speaker 1: on the spot which he had published. They stand about
- 9:07Speaker 1: a foot high in the colors of red, white, and blue.
- 9:11Speaker 1: The now deceased man simply felt that the people should
- 9:15Speaker 1: be that these people should be remembered, and I think
- 9:18Speaker 1: his very act of remembering is one that is worthy
- 9:22Speaker 1: of praise. And by the way, Sarge says, if anybody
- 9:27Speaker 1: wants to take these and share them with the world,
- 9:32Speaker 1: they are available for that purpose. Now let me just conclude,
- 9:36Speaker 1: by the way, my email, so the email handles Sarge,
- 9:41Speaker 1: is in remembrance of my grandfather known as Sarge. I'm
- 9:46Speaker 1: a female. We actually have common connections. You'd get a
- 9:50Speaker 1: kick out of. So Serge in honor of her grandfather,
- 9:55Speaker 1: goes as such. I think I can safely say I
- 9:58Speaker 1: don't think Sarge is saying that Sarge's trans I think
- 10:02Speaker 1: it is purely an honor to Sarge's grandfather that she
- 10:06Speaker 1: uses Serge for an email. Hand But wasn't that a
- 10:09Speaker 1: beautiful story? Uh just happens now that that was no accident.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I don't care how cynical you are. That
- 10:18Speaker 1: was no accident. That somebody was a strong feeling for
- 10:22Speaker 1: her grandfather veteran and someone who had stopped to look
- 10:27Speaker 1: at a patriotic display is just I'm using air quotes
- 10:31Speaker 1: accidentally drawn into this, uh connection with these volumes of
- 10:38Speaker 1: stories of remembrance and sacrifice by veterans, that was incredible. Uh, Serge,
- 10:44Speaker 1: thank you for sharing that with us. And I wasn't
- 10:46Speaker 1: gonna mentione this, but I'm gonna. I'm gonna do it
- 10:48Speaker 1: now because of Sarge's story. So Friday night, back back
- 10:54Speaker 1: to Memoryal Park on Friday night, Uh, a little bit
- 10:57Speaker 1: of a downer, you know, the rains falling. There were
- 10:59Speaker 1: still a lot of people, nice crowd turned out and
- 11:01Speaker 1: the performances one on the Drone show went on. I
- 11:05Speaker 1: didn't know if that would somebody that I knew, who
- 11:07Speaker 1: knew about this stuff said, oh, drones can't operate in rain. Well,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I don't know. The rain did kind of back off,
- 11:13Speaker 1: or maybe these were waterproof drones. Whatever the case. The
- 11:17Speaker 1: drone show went off was magnificent, and so the evening
- 11:21Speaker 1: was still a win. It was still a victory. But
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, early on that's kind of revved up to
- 11:27Speaker 1: do the flag and that wasn't happening. So I did
- 11:32Speaker 1: a rosary walking among those towers. I think it's fifty
- 11:38Speaker 1: of them. The towers. They have these wings, they have
- 11:41Speaker 1: the three wings, and they're full of pictures. That Bill says,
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yvonne is the one who put to get pictures and
- 11:49Speaker 1: quick stories families. Sometimes there's the shot of the fallen
- 11:54Speaker 1: as a young you know, a baby or a toddler.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Often there's a shot with a wife and children. And
- 12:03Speaker 1: I found myself getting choked up at times, and of
- 12:06Speaker 1: course most of these people I didn't know. I did
- 12:08Speaker 1: see Daigan Page, the guy who died in the Afghanistan
- 12:13Speaker 1: Mess of withdrawal a few years ago. I did see
- 12:17Speaker 1: my former neighbor Adam Harold, who the street, the stretch
- 12:23Speaker 1: of Webster Street in front of Saint Cecilia's Elementary School,
- 12:26Speaker 1: where he and I both attended grade school, runs right
- 12:30Speaker 1: through the middle of the cathedral campus there from from
- 12:33Speaker 1: fortieth Street to thirty eighth Street that was renamed for Adam.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Harold saw his picture among them. But here's the strange thing.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I won't go into all the details of it, but
- 12:45Speaker 1: when you do a Rosary, there are different decades that
- 12:48Speaker 1: you do sections of prayers and you meditate on something
- 12:52Speaker 1: about the life of Christ. And I was about to
- 12:54Speaker 1: do the one dealing with the transfiguration. That was his
- 12:58Speaker 1: rendezvous with Moses, and I think it was Elijah. I
- 13:01Speaker 1: am not a scripture scholar. It was Moses and Elijah. Anyway,
- 13:04Speaker 1: a little taste of heaven. You know, he's transfigured, sort
- 13:08Speaker 1: of a glowing presence, and this is what it's gonna
- 13:11Speaker 1: be like in heaven. Anyway. The reason I mentioned it
- 13:14Speaker 1: to you is so I'm about to start in on
- 13:17Speaker 1: that section of prayers and my eyes fall upon the
- 13:20Speaker 1: picture of Raymond R. E. Y m U and Da
- 13:26Speaker 1: Latino Raymund Transfigura. That was his surname, that was his
- 13:33Speaker 1: last name, his family name, Transfigura. I took a picture
- 13:39Speaker 1: of it right away. And said it to my wife.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I had to document it to somebody. I'm telling you,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was about to do this decade of prayers of
- 13:47Speaker 1: the Transfiguration and I run into a guy named Transfigura.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Come on. So it was very Uh, I don't know that.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That was one of my favorite things, just walking around
- 14:01Speaker 1: amongst the fallen and then there's it right next to it,
- 14:04Speaker 1: there's a display of small flags planted in the ground
- 14:08Speaker 1: for everyone. I think there are signs around explaining all this.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That's what I love about patriotic productions. It's a history lesson,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you know, it's not just frothy nostalgia whatever. There's grit
- 14:22Speaker 1: and substance to it. It's a history lesson as well
- 14:26Speaker 1: as entertainment. And there were signs explaining the different wars.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And I think it was one point three million total
- 14:32Speaker 1: that we've lost from the revolutionary today, people dying in
- 14:36Speaker 1: military service. So there were flags. I think it was
- 14:39Speaker 1: one flag for every thousand, or one for every ten
- 14:42Speaker 1: thousand or something. I can't remember the exact formulas, but
- 14:45Speaker 1: a big field of flags. So just strolling amongst the towers,
- 14:50Speaker 1: remembering the fallen and the flags commemorating the fallen and
- 14:54Speaker 1: doing Rosary. I didn't mind the rain. I didn't mind
- 14:58Speaker 1: it one bit really neat Anyway, I hope you had
- 15:02Speaker 1: a great Memorial Day weekend. We do actually need to
- 15:05Speaker 1: get to the news now. I've almost talked my way
- 15:09Speaker 1: right through the whole first half of the show before
- 15:11Speaker 1: I get rolling Peyton. Anything in the email or the
- 15:15Speaker 1: phone lines with phone lines are open?
- 15:17Speaker 3: Phone lines are open? Yes, four zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten.
- 15:20Speaker 3: I was just really intrigued on your story there, and
- 15:22Speaker 3: from Sarge as well. It was very touch.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was was that was unsolicited. Sarge just
- 15:29Speaker 1: offered that one up and yeah, so you know, if
- 15:33Speaker 1: you have any stories from Memorial Day weekend or we're
- 15:36Speaker 1: still we're still willing to entertain any memories pertaining to
- 15:41Speaker 1: Memorial Day or someone something you were involved in, someone
- 15:44Speaker 1: you know about who made the ultimate sacrifice, we'd be
- 15:48Speaker 1: glad to hear about that. In the meantime, into the news,
- 15:52Speaker 1: we go, well, the Texas Primary futures market is open.
- 15:58Speaker 1: What are you buying? Born enter Paxton a few weeks ago.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I guess it was pretty much a toss up. The
- 16:07Speaker 1: Trump endorsement of Ken Paxton last week, of course, as
- 16:12Speaker 1: a factor that seems to have moved the needle in
- 16:15Speaker 1: that race. So are you are you buying Paxson today
- 16:19Speaker 1: or do you think Cornon the incumbent, the longtime incumbent,
- 16:22Speaker 1: will pull it out. I've heard some ads by corn
- 16:25Speaker 1: And saying, hey, I've been a friend of President Trump,
- 16:29Speaker 1: I've been a friend of the MAGA movement, I'm a
- 16:31Speaker 1: friend of the Republican Party, I'm a friend of conservatism
- 16:34Speaker 1: and I will continue to be And so he's been
- 16:38Speaker 1: graceful about it. Ken Paxton, of course, seizing on the
- 16:42Speaker 1: Trump endorsement, and let's go. You know, I'm your guy.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, Given what's been happening, let's see
- 16:51Speaker 1: what happens today, and then we may have to talk
- 16:54Speaker 1: about this some more on Thursday and Friday. On this phenomenon.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Because I read everything. I sample everything left right, everything
- 17:04Speaker 1: in between when it comes to news sites and political
- 17:06Speaker 1: commentary and voices, because I want to know everything that's
- 17:09Speaker 1: being said. And you can't be afraid to be exposed
- 17:14Speaker 1: to what the other side thinks and says. I if
- 17:18Speaker 1: your own beliefs can't stand up to that pressure, then
- 17:22Speaker 1: your own beliefs really aren't worth much. You ought to
- 17:24Speaker 1: be able to listen and hear. Yeah, but did you
- 17:27Speaker 1: think of this? Did you consider that? You know, you
- 17:29Speaker 1: got to be able to stand up. But it's also
- 17:32Speaker 1: you can learn things. It's helpful to know what the
- 17:34Speaker 1: other side's thinking, and the other side see. Well, Trump's done,
- 17:38Speaker 1: he's finished. Stick a fork in him, he's done. The
- 17:40Speaker 1: MAGA movement's done. The uh, you know, that's all in
- 17:46Speaker 1: the past, and I don't know. This election season Trump
- 17:50Speaker 1: decided to do in Trumpian fashion. You know, usually a
- 17:54Speaker 1: president just kind of is passively on the sidelines in
- 17:57Speaker 1: an off year election when there's no presidential election happening.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Trump has decided just the opposite. Oh no, I'm out there.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm working it. I am on the ballot. My name
- 18:07Speaker 1: may be on the may not be on ballots, but
- 18:11Speaker 1: I'm on the ballot. This year, I'm putting myself on
- 18:14Speaker 1: the ballot. I'm finding people who are with me and
- 18:17Speaker 1: helping them and opposing people who are not. And so
- 18:22Speaker 1: he's working it. And I think there's still going to
- 18:25Speaker 1: be some kind of a convention this summer as if
- 18:27Speaker 1: it was a presidential election year. So Trump, in his
- 18:32Speaker 1: inimitable style is out there working it and changing the game,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and it has produced results so far. And if this
- 18:39Speaker 1: long time incumbent Corning goes down in Texas today, well
- 18:43Speaker 1: we'll have to talk about that Thursday and Friday. In
- 18:46Speaker 1: the meantime, gosh, we're already coming up on our first break.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Oh Peyton, you got the jazz bumpers in good Man.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I didn't feed those things until this morning, and I
- 18:57Speaker 1: try to give him stuff the night before. But anyway,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I should have known Peyton can handle it. Jazz bumpers
- 19:03Speaker 1: for you today on a Tuesday, kind of getting you
- 19:06Speaker 1: back in gear for the work week after a Memorial
- 19:09Speaker 1: Day weekend. I'm Jim Maxwell, filling in for the honorable
- 19:13Speaker 1: Jens Stothard, producer. Peyton's at the controls. It's the KFAB
- 19:18Speaker 1: comment line on news radio eleven ten KFAB, and I
- 19:21Speaker 1: do think we've got something on the talkback Mike. I'm
- 19:24Speaker 1: gonna ask Peyton in just a moment to play that. Harvey,
- 19:28Speaker 1: are you out there? How about you? Mom's march Mike Constitution, Jim,
- 19:33Speaker 1: haven't heard from you in a while. And then there's
- 19:35Speaker 1: frequent contributor and Hall of Fame listener, Rob, Rob, what's
- 19:39Speaker 1: your excuse? Four oh two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten. Well,
- 19:45Speaker 1: let's go ahead and do that. Talkback, Mike. We've got
- 19:48Speaker 1: something right, Peyton, go ahead, Yes we do.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Here we go, Chipping, Good morning, Good luck Peyton. You
- 19:54Speaker 2: know those two don't get along very well. They don't
- 19:58Speaker 2: play it, they don't play nice with with each other.
- 20:01Speaker 2: So keep him apart, keep him apart from killing each other.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Good show, guys, have a good one.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Well, thank you. Well, it sounds like it's going to
- 20:12Speaker 1: be entertaining whatever happens. We're talking about the fact that
- 20:16Speaker 1: I can't be with you tomorrow, but I will finish
- 20:19Speaker 1: out the week with you Thursday and Friday. Then Jean
- 20:21Speaker 1: Stothord he'll be back in the saddle on Monday, June first.
- 20:26Speaker 1: But Gary Saddlemeyer and Jim Rose are going to cover
- 20:30Speaker 1: this show tomorrow, and so yeah, it could get it
- 20:35Speaker 1: could get a little well, Peyton, I just hope you
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't get caught any crossfire tomorrow, and boy, you are
- 20:41Speaker 1: going to have a full day. Gary Sadlemyer and Jim
- 20:44Speaker 1: Rose in the morning and then Chris Baker in the afternoon.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Chris Baker, well, I don't want to steal his thunder,
- 20:51Speaker 1: So I'll just mention in case he's too humble to
- 20:54Speaker 1: mention it. Peyton, I don't know if you were aware
- 20:57Speaker 1: he got a very nice award over the weekend. Did
- 21:00Speaker 1: did you mention anything about that? He did? Yes?
- 21:03Speaker 3: Okay, we actually had the founder on the.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Show, Lambrose had America's Wall of Honor. Yes, fantastic. Okay,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I didn't hear that. Uh yeah, America's Wall of Honor.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Retire Smart is a sponsor of that project as well.
- 21:17Speaker 1: David Brooks is a sucker for anything patriotic. His dad
- 21:22Speaker 1: was a marine and a cop. So, uh, Retire Smart
- 21:27Speaker 1: gets behind a lot of these things. That's how I
- 21:29Speaker 1: knew about it. And okay, well that's that's been covered.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I hope Chris will regale us with stories from the
- 21:36Speaker 1: evening when his turn comes today. In the meantime, Uh
- 21:43Speaker 1: so the Texas primary, I want to know the futures market.
- 21:47Speaker 1: What are you buy in, folks, Paxton or Cornyn?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Uh?
- 21:51Speaker 1: It was kind of seemed like leaning toward Cornan for
- 21:53Speaker 1: a long time, especially if Trump had endorsed him. Trump
- 21:58Speaker 1: stayed silent until last week, and Trump came out for
- 22:01Speaker 1: Ken Paxton. Now I know on the left, it's the
- 22:08Speaker 1: game is to spin it in a negative way. Well,
- 22:10Speaker 1: it's Trump the tyrant, and then everybody's licking his boots
- 22:15Speaker 1: and trying to I don't think that's a full and
- 22:19Speaker 1: complete understanding of politics and how it works. Maga voters.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I'll even go back and see tea party voters. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: used to mc tea party rallies when it was a thing,
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know, a decade or so ago. The big rallies
- 22:33Speaker 1: and events aren't happening, but that momentum is still out there.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Well it became maga. Okay, but what you don't realize
- 22:41Speaker 1: is people we're not cheap, but we don't. We sometimes
- 22:48Speaker 1: get angry and turn on erstwhile tea party maga leaders.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And so just the fact that Trump says vote for
- 22:57Speaker 1: somebody alone isn't enough. I think Trump is pretty good
- 23:01Speaker 1: at reading the tea leaves. I think Trump and you know,
- 23:04Speaker 1: he's got his people on the ground in Texas. I
- 23:06Speaker 1: suppose providing intel. I think Trump figured out. You know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I think Paxton may win this thing. In fact, I
- 23:15Speaker 1: think he is going to win. I think he'll definitely
- 23:17Speaker 1: win if I back him. So it's kind of a
- 23:19Speaker 1: two way thing. It isn't just now Trump is the
- 23:22Speaker 1: magic touch and now you win. It's that Trump figures
- 23:25Speaker 1: out where the people are, where the oh gosh, I'm
- 23:29Speaker 1: going to reach your way back here. Lec Falensa Poland
- 23:34Speaker 1: Kadansk shipyards when the Communists still ran Poland, and he
- 23:38Speaker 1: led the Solidarity movement and eventually would end up becoming
- 23:42Speaker 1: president of Poland after Communism was thrown off. But this
- 23:46Speaker 1: guy's a shipyard worker. He was not a political science
- 23:49Speaker 1: major in college. I don't even know you went to college.
- 23:52Speaker 1: You know. He was a working man. But he had
- 23:54Speaker 1: magnificent political instincts. And somebody interviewed him one time, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: how do you do this? What do you You've never
- 24:02Speaker 1: studied politics? You've never said, no, I just I can
- 24:06Speaker 1: sniff the wind and figure out where the herd wants
- 24:10Speaker 1: and needs to go. He was saying. It isn't that
- 24:13Speaker 1: I just choose whatever and everybody automatically follow me. It's
- 24:17Speaker 1: because I am I am of the people. I know
- 24:21Speaker 1: the people and I know where they want to go,
- 24:24Speaker 1: so that that's part of what helps it. So it's
- 24:27Speaker 1: kind of a two way street with leadership. And I
- 24:31Speaker 1: think Trump is very much. I know, I know this
- 24:34Speaker 1: is New York born and bred billionaire, but this guy
- 24:40Speaker 1: has uh well, Chuck Hagel, I know that name for
- 24:43Speaker 1: some people, Chuck Hagel. I worked for Chuck Hagel when
- 24:48Speaker 1: Chuck Egel was a Conservative and when he was in
- 24:52Speaker 1: his first term in the Senate, and uh he uh,
- 24:56Speaker 1: he had a theory of connectivity. Connectivity, he said, because
- 25:02Speaker 1: at that time, so we're talking about the late nineties
- 25:04Speaker 1: and approaching two thousand and you know, the people in
- 25:08Speaker 1: politics at that time, he said, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton,
- 25:11Speaker 1: he has connectivity. He knows how to connect with people.
- 25:14Speaker 1: He says, got a natural connection with you. Al Gore
- 25:16Speaker 1: does not, he said, he just he's just kind of flat,
- 25:19Speaker 1: kind of tone deaf. He he doesn't have it. He doesn't.
- 25:22Speaker 1: But Clinton does. On the Republican side, you know, he said,
- 25:27Speaker 1: George W. Bush, he's got it connectivity. He does know
- 25:31Speaker 1: how to connect and resonate with people. And then there
- 25:34Speaker 1: were some other people Republicans who were wanting to run
- 25:37Speaker 1: for president in two thousand and this is Hagel in
- 25:39Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine saying he doesn't have it or she
- 25:43Speaker 1: doesn't have it, And I would say Hagel had that
- 25:48Speaker 1: ability of that connectivity. Of course then he started to
- 25:56Speaker 1: change a little and well eventually serve in the Obama administration.
- 25:59Speaker 1: But anyway, connectivity, I think Trump has it. And uh,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and so I think it's partly also knowing where the
- 26:09Speaker 1: voters are and where they want things to go that
- 26:12Speaker 1: that feeds into his decisions.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Anyway, speaking of voters, Chip, I got something here and
- 26:17Speaker 3: reference to that voter comment. This is an email that
- 26:20Speaker 3: came to comment at kfabe dot com. Hang it on
- 26:22Speaker 3: and in this this is in reference to former FBI
- 26:26Speaker 3: Director James Comy.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Oh, do you think the.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Moving of Comy's trial from July to October has anything
- 26:35Speaker 3: to do with the elections being in November?
- 26:39Speaker 1: Ah, I hadn't considered.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Have a theoretical question, you know, kind of something to
- 26:45Speaker 3: ponder about.
- 26:46Speaker 1: All right, off the cuff. I don't know. I welcome
- 26:49Speaker 1: anybody's thoughts on that. Four oh two, five, five, eight
- 26:52Speaker 1: eleven ten comment at kfab dot com at the talkback, Mike,
- 26:55Speaker 1: I don't know. I'll tell you what anything any move
- 27:00Speaker 1: that increased speaking of a futures market, anything that increases
- 27:04Speaker 1: the odds of some kind of a Komy conviction. I'm
- 27:08Speaker 1: for it, I support it. I did a podcast on
- 27:12Speaker 1: this recently, call me Clapper Brennan. All of them, all
- 27:16Speaker 1: of them who did the Trump Russia collusion hoax and
- 27:21Speaker 1: in various ways lied to Congress, and since they couldn't
- 27:26Speaker 1: impeach him in the constitutional manner, tried to effectively impeach
- 27:30Speaker 1: Trump run him out of office. With these persecutions and
- 27:34Speaker 1: prosecutions of Trump and his people, his campaign, his administration.
- 27:39Speaker 1: The oh boy, this one touches a nerve. As you
- 27:44Speaker 1: can see anything that increases the enchances, the chances of
- 27:48Speaker 1: Jim Comy behind bars in an orange jumpsuit. I am
- 27:52Speaker 1: for it. I'm sorry. And because he is so smarmy,
- 27:56Speaker 1: he is so self absorbed. He is talking about a
- 28:02Speaker 1: Messiah complex. Now, this thing about the rocks on the beach,
- 28:06Speaker 1: the stones on the beach, the eighty six forty seven,
- 28:11Speaker 1: I sure hope the government has stronger than that to
- 28:15Speaker 1: bring on Komy because he lied, he's perjured himself, he's lied,
- 28:18Speaker 1: he leaked classified information to try to generate buzz. Well,
- 28:23Speaker 1: it worked, it worked, a quick review, quick review, and
- 28:28Speaker 1: then I'll leave it alone in case anybody else wants
- 28:31Speaker 1: to grab the baton and run with it. But so
- 28:37Speaker 1: there was no collusion. You know, Trump, Trump, the treason,
- 28:40Speaker 1: his Putin puppet. Putin ran the twenty sixteen election. All
- 28:44Speaker 1: that nonsense. What happened was the Hillary Clinton campaign. Hillary Clinton,
- 28:50Speaker 1: the Democratic nominee. If anybody was colluding with Russia, it
- 28:53Speaker 1: was her. Her campaign hired a British spy uh named
- 29:01Speaker 1: Steel to approach Russians and get intel on Trump, damaging
- 29:06Speaker 1: intel from Russian spies. Well, these Russian spies, they must
- 29:11Speaker 1: they must still just be hooting and hollering telling stories
- 29:15Speaker 1: about this one. They cooked up a spectacularly false dossier
- 29:20Speaker 1: and fed that thing to steal and probably got top
- 29:23Speaker 1: dollar for it. Steel brings it back to the Clintons.
- 29:25Speaker 1: The Clintons start leaking it out to media and their
- 29:28Speaker 1: friends and government and so forth.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Uh.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You know, so you've got a fake dossier with fake
- 29:34Speaker 1: allegations coming out in the fake news, and so the
- 29:39Speaker 1: swamp creatures inside government go to these courts, you know,
- 29:42Speaker 1: fiz of courts and so forth. We look at these
- 29:44Speaker 1: news stories. We're going to need some warrants to do
- 29:47Speaker 1: some spying on Trump and his people, because I look
- 29:50Speaker 1: at these stories coming out the news, so fake allegations,
- 29:55Speaker 1: for fake warrants, for a whole thord fake operative word
- 30:00Speaker 1: is fake. Comy was in the middle of all this.
- 30:04Speaker 1: There were under Oh Obama, by the way, and I'm sorry,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I will you don't want people persecuting Trump, I don't.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I don't like law fair. Lawfair is when you gin
- 30:13Speaker 1: something up, something phony and fraudulent and flimsy to harass somebody.
- 30:21Speaker 1: This isn't lawfair. These are people Obama belongs in there
- 30:24Speaker 1: with Clapper, bread saying put them in the same cell
- 30:26Speaker 1: with Clapper, Brennan and Komy. Because underlings in the intelligence
- 30:30Speaker 1: world there were some people who say, hey, hey, hey,
- 30:33Speaker 1: this is crazy, this is ridiculous. There's no substance to
- 30:37Speaker 1: any of this. Obama, Brennan, Comy, Clapper, all of that crowd.
- 30:40Speaker 1: They overrode the professionals who were telling drop this is
- 30:45Speaker 1: They overrode all that and kept running with it and
- 30:48Speaker 1: kept it going and kept it alive. They used the
- 30:53Speaker 1: power of the They misused the power of the federal
- 30:56Speaker 1: government to persecute and prosecute political enemy. They should pay
- 31:02Speaker 1: a price for that. That's not law fair, that is justice.
- 31:07Speaker 1: That is righting an egregious wrong, these people claiming today
- 31:12Speaker 1: Trump is destroying our democracy, that is the organs of
- 31:16Speaker 1: our democratic republic being prostituted, being twisted for partisan ends,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and that must be addressed, that those people must be
- 31:30Speaker 1: held accountable. All Right, we better go to a brank
- 31:34Speaker 1: peyton and I'll stop, I'll breathe, I'll call him down
- 31:37Speaker 1: a little. We'll see. I've got about six more topics
- 31:40Speaker 1: I want it kept to. We have one segment left,
- 31:42Speaker 1: asking you shall receive. We now have a few callers
- 31:46Speaker 1: on the line. Well, let's get right to the callers.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So Brett, welcome to the show.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Good morning, gentlemen.
- 31:53Speaker 1: What's on your buying Brett?
- 31:56Speaker 5: Well, I hope you guys had a Memorial Day. We
- 31:58Speaker 5: had a great weather and we can be thankful for that,
- 32:01Speaker 5: and we can be thankful for everybody who served. My
- 32:04Speaker 5: comment chip was about Yeah, my comment was about connectivity.
- 32:08Speaker 5: So I find it a really interesting topic. You referenced
- 32:11Speaker 5: a couple of politicians, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump. People understand this.
- 32:16Speaker 5: There's a book called Influence, The Psychology of Persuasion. It
- 32:20Speaker 5: was written by a psychologist named Robert Chaldeini in the
- 32:23Speaker 5: mid eighties, and there's been millions of copies sold, and
- 32:27Speaker 5: I encourage everybody to pick it up because I train
- 32:30Speaker 5: on this book and these topics in my profession constantly.
- 32:35Speaker 5: And so this issue of connectivity is a principle in
- 32:38Speaker 5: a book called Liking, and so liking means rapport. If
- 32:42Speaker 5: you have rapport with somebody, that means they like you.
- 32:45Speaker 5: And what Bill Clinton understands and what Donald Trump understands
- 32:49Speaker 5: is there's three ways to get rapport with people. And
- 32:52Speaker 5: the first way is to make yourself seem like them.
- 32:56Speaker 5: If that person sees you as being like them, they're
- 32:59Speaker 5: going to like you. And the second way is to
- 33:01Speaker 5: put yourself in the same place that they are. So
- 33:05Speaker 5: I always referenced the sixth degree of separation. If you
- 33:08Speaker 5: know where that person went to school, if you know
- 33:11Speaker 5: the job that they're in, if you know the neighborhood
- 33:13Speaker 5: that they're in, you always reference that. And if you
- 33:15Speaker 5: can do that, they'll like you. And the third thing
- 33:18Speaker 5: is to compliment people, which Bill Clinton did very well.
- 33:22Speaker 5: Donald Trump does very well also. But it's an extremely
- 33:26Speaker 5: powerful book. I find the topic very interesting. I encourage
- 33:30Speaker 5: everybody go pick up a copy. You can get it.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Brett, would you spell that last week. How do you
- 33:35Speaker 1: spell Chaldina?
- 33:37Speaker 5: It's CIA D I N I. Robert Chaldeini. He was
- 33:43Speaker 5: a psychology professor at Arizona State University. Marketing executives coaches.
- 33:51Speaker 5: Any executive people who are successful with understanding how to
- 33:55Speaker 5: influence people. They know about this book and they've read it.
- 33:59Speaker 5: So obviously my only caveat is there are people who are,
- 34:05Speaker 5: you know, not the most trustworthy, and they understand these
- 34:09Speaker 5: things to manipulate people. But if you're really trying to
- 34:13Speaker 5: do good and help people out, this book is extremely powerful.
- 34:18Speaker 5: So check it out. And I just find that, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 5: connectivity is liking, which is rapport and I think I
- 34:24Speaker 5: just wanted to make a comment.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So Brett, thank you, Thank you, Brett, Thank you Brett.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Let's see, Yeah, we we're getting close. But oh, Rob,
- 34:33Speaker 1: is that you?
- 34:37Speaker 6: So?
- 34:37Speaker 1: As I chastised in any any surfaces, I thought it
- 34:40Speaker 1: might work, Rob, what's on your mind this morning?
- 34:44Speaker 4: I was getting I was saving the best for last
- 34:46Speaker 4: four You. You know you talk about because I'm humble,
- 34:50Speaker 4: You talk about.
- 34:51Speaker 1: The greatest thing about me is my humility.
- 34:54Speaker 4: Yeah, well, what do you expect? Your mother was a
- 34:57Speaker 4: task Republican.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh he's playing that card all right, and gloves are off,
- 35:03Speaker 1: go rub.
- 35:04Speaker 4: In honor of your dad. Anyway, Hey, so you know
- 35:08Speaker 4: my you know I was I remember this very well.
- 35:12Speaker 4: You talk about you talk about people who lose during war.
- 35:16Speaker 4: You know, growing up, I knew I had a My
- 35:19Speaker 4: mom had a cousin who shortly before she was born,
- 35:23Speaker 4: was killed serving at Pearl Harbor. And that was just that,
- 35:27Speaker 4: you know, lost lost to the war.
- 35:28Speaker 5: There was.
- 35:30Speaker 4: You know, you don't really.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Know, I mean what it was washed out to see.
- 35:35Speaker 4: You never knew, you know. September third, twenty nineteen, I
- 35:39Speaker 4: was listening to KFAB as every good Omahan should, and
- 35:43Speaker 4: you know they do the local news saying a funeral
- 35:46Speaker 4: will be hill today in Cedar Rapids for Bill Shanahan Junior,
- 35:49Speaker 4: and I abelt filled to the ground. I never thought
- 35:52Speaker 4: I would hear that name outside of a outside of family.
- 35:55Speaker 4: But you know, he was serving aboard the Oklahoma. He
- 35:59Speaker 4: was top. I'd thrown off, climb back up to help
- 36:02Speaker 4: his other shipmates. But the Oklahoma capsized and just in
- 36:07Speaker 4: nothing flat and about four hundred people were trapped below.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Okay, slow down, slow down, we're talking about did you
- 36:17Speaker 1: say your mother's cousin. Yes, this was mister Shanahan. Okay,
- 36:22Speaker 1: he's blown off the ship. He makes his way back
- 36:26Speaker 1: to the ship trying to help his shipmates, but then
- 36:29Speaker 1: the whole ship capsizes and goes down and he's lost
- 36:32Speaker 1: at sea. But but so a ceremony was held or
- 36:35Speaker 1: where remains actually found.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Or well again there was there was. Things were just
- 36:42Speaker 4: different than and and fast forward to modern day. When
- 36:45Speaker 4: you go to basic trainy they take blood swap put
- 36:48Speaker 4: on a little card for future. That wasn't done then.
- 36:54Speaker 4: So we just simply there knew I mean, if he
- 36:58Speaker 4: just washed we ever knew about in the early nineties.
- 37:04Speaker 4: I guess it was late nineties. One or two of
- 37:07Speaker 4: his sisters submitted da because you know, they had, you know,
- 37:11Speaker 4: in several pieces, about four hundred some bodies from Oklahoma,
- 37:16Speaker 4: some unidentified remains. Okay, right, you'll stay in one piece.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Unfortunately and sure so thingstakingly.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Uh, there's a lap down an off it who identifies
- 37:29Speaker 6: pretty much each of the two hundred and six bones
- 37:31Speaker 6: of the body and sorts that out and he received
- 37:35Speaker 6: a proper brier.
- 37:36Speaker 4: It had just been a empty grave back in forty
- 37:40Speaker 4: one or forty two whenever there remains.
- 37:43Speaker 1: There was a genetic match established and there were remains.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Oh the goodness and you now yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Yeah, every now and then you will hear now they
- 37:56Speaker 4: were put just in basically a grave called I believe
- 37:59Speaker 4: it called the fish Bowl down in Hawaii.
- 38:02Speaker 6: But you know, as technology advanced.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Over decades, uh, that was able to be. And once
- 38:08Speaker 4: in a while you will still hear every maybe once
- 38:12Speaker 4: or twice a year, you will hear a story a
- 38:14Speaker 4: sailor from the Oklahoma has been identified.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Incredible, you did save the best for last. Wow. Uh, Rob,
- 38:25Speaker 1: thank you for sharing that one. There's there's there's another
- 38:27Speaker 1: Memorial Day chaser for us. Well, this is kind of
- 38:31Speaker 1: pedestrian compared to your story. But before I let you go,
- 38:35Speaker 1: do you have a prediction today? Rob? On the Texas Primary?
- 38:40Speaker 4: You know, I tell you I went to five MLB
- 38:44Speaker 4: games this month and only two of the home teams
- 38:47Speaker 4: won two times with the home team one. So my, my, my,
- 38:51Speaker 4: I will bring bad luck if I say one.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Of the.
- 38:54Speaker 1: All right, well, okay, now now I'm intrigued. Where where
- 38:58Speaker 1: were you in one city watching games?
- 39:00Speaker 4: Or did you move around? We went to Rigley and
- 39:03Speaker 4: they beat the Reds in a walk off, okay, the
- 39:06Speaker 4: first of a full game sweep. Then we went to
- 39:08Speaker 4: Detroit and they were beat by the RedHawks. We then
- 39:10Speaker 4: went to Fenway, year old stomping ground and and they
- 39:14Speaker 4: were beat by uh, they were beat by Tampa Bay anyway.
- 39:20Speaker 4: So then we went to Baltimore and then they were
- 39:21Speaker 4: beat by those damn Yankees, all right, and then then
- 39:26Speaker 4: we finally got the Pittsburgh and they beat they beat
- 39:28Speaker 4: the Rockies, so we now bookend wins.
