- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: All right, Well, as you guys know, last week there
- 0:09Speaker 2: was tragedy and that tragedy was highlighted by the sports world,
- 0:15Speaker 2: and I want to get into that today because whatever
- 0:18Speaker 2: your political views are, you lost a human being last
- 0:20Speaker 2: week through an assassination in Charlie Kirk and Luther Manelo.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We did not have you on because of that breaking
- 0:27Speaker 2: news coverage. I mean, it was just awful what we
- 0:29Speaker 2: had a witness and see after. But the sports teams
- 0:33Speaker 2: coming around to do a moment of silence should not
- 0:36Speaker 2: have been controversial, should it have been?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Hey, Alex, good to have you to be back. Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 1: last week was terrible. It was last Wednesday, just about
- 0:47Speaker 1: this time that we got the terrible news. And yeah, no,
- 0:52Speaker 1: nothing that any of the sports teams did take a
- 0:55Speaker 1: moment of silence to honor somebody was assassinated. It should
- 1:00Speaker 1: be controversial. I mean, we have to. We just have
- 1:04Speaker 1: to be just more caring than that.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So and by the way, for those who hate that,
- 1:13Speaker 2: you know Judge shook hands with Trump, I want to
- 1:17Speaker 2: remind you Derek Jeter also shok hands with the President
- 1:20Speaker 2: of the United States in two thousand and one. Before
- 1:23Speaker 2: his amazing first pitch in the months following nine to eleven.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean, were you remember that, Louis. The dramatic moment
- 1:30Speaker 2: of George W. Bush stepping on that field to throw
- 1:33Speaker 2: the first pitch a bullet a strike was unbelievable.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I do remember, and he was wearing a very heavy
- 1:40Speaker 1: bulletproof vest and he was still able to deliver the strike,
- 1:44Speaker 1: which was during one of the darkest times in American history.
- 1:49Speaker 1: In my lifetime, I never thought New York City would
- 1:52Speaker 1: be attacked, and it did happen, and hopefully it never
- 1:58Speaker 1: happens again, and thank god, since that day it hasn't.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But we move on. Sports is what gives us our outlet.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And uh, I mean last the first two weeks NFL
- 2:11Speaker 1: season or in a book, and I assume that's where
- 2:13Speaker 1: you want to start, but just let me know if that's.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Actually where I want to start. Is more because I
- 2:18Speaker 2: mentioned Judge and a guy had met last year, cal
- 2:22Speaker 2: Rally is on the march. I mean, this kid is
- 2:26Speaker 2: what fifty six fifty seven? I mean, he could break
- 2:29Speaker 2: this record, couldn't he.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Now? Obviously he's in shooting distance to break the record,
- 2:35Speaker 1: no doubt about it. He's at fifty six. He set
- 2:38Speaker 1: the record for most home runs by switcher. He passed
- 2:41Speaker 1: the great Nickey Mantle. He two home runs last night.
- 2:45Speaker 1: He has Seattle in first place. Seattle's one nine in
- 2:48Speaker 1: a row in this season. And this is not only
- 2:50Speaker 1: for the Seattle Maron is for everybody. All these teams
- 2:54Speaker 1: streak after streak ten out of eleven, then they lose
- 2:57Speaker 1: eight out of ten. You could, Alex, you could just
- 3:00Speaker 1: basically check every team that's a contender or semicontender. They've
- 3:06Speaker 1: had just incredible ups and downs. But cal Raley, I mean,
- 3:11Speaker 1: is he's switched h here. He plays the toughest position
- 3:15Speaker 1: on the field, catcher. He was the Platinum Glove the
- 3:19Speaker 1: Player the year, which means he was the best defensive
- 3:21Speaker 1: player in the league, regardless of position. I know, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: everybody says that Judge is still in the league for MVP,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and I'm sure Judge really doesn't care as long as
- 3:35Speaker 1: the Yankees win the World Series and he's the MVP
- 3:38Speaker 1: in the World Series. But just on regular season alone,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and there's still ten eleven games left, and he's ten
- 3:46Speaker 1: eleven games will be critical for the not only the
- 3:51Speaker 1: playoff and Pennant race, but for the MVP race. But
- 3:55Speaker 1: if he said, if he sets the record with sixty two,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and it's gonna be hard to get there, but if
- 3:59Speaker 1: he hit sixty home runs, they make the playoffs. So
- 4:03Speaker 1: they finished first. I can't see how you do not
- 4:06Speaker 1: get this guy the MVP. In my opinion, he should
- 4:09Speaker 1: win it fairly easily. But you listen to all of
- 4:13Speaker 1: the quote unquote baseball experts and they still have Judge ahead.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But you know, if I had a vote today, right
- 4:24Speaker 1: now and there's still ten, ten eleven games to go,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I would vote for cal Rawley.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He deserves And you know, it's almost like the Judge
- 4:31Speaker 2: situation where if he doesn't hit, the whole team might
- 4:35Speaker 2: struggle a little bit. So he's he's really been the
- 4:38Speaker 2: catalyst for every mirror in their game, and it's it's
- 4:41Speaker 2: been interesting because they had their hitting missus. I think
- 4:44Speaker 2: they had like a few game losing streak year and
- 4:46Speaker 2: there they've been winning year and it's been a wild year.
- 4:49Speaker 1: But I think they're close to Houston still right yeah, now,
- 4:52Speaker 1: right now they're ahead. They were half a game ahead,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and they've done a tremendous job. They have outstanding starting
- 4:59Speaker 1: kitchen staff and Houston's just been just been banged up
- 5:03Speaker 1: from day one and somehow they're still They're still in
- 5:08Speaker 1: there at half the game out. But you know, uh,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Jordan has probably the most underrated great offensive player in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the major leagues. Suffered another injury the other night, crossing
- 5:19Speaker 1: home plate standing up crossing home plate on the base hit,
- 5:24Speaker 1: he severely sprained his ankle. And he's going to be out,
- 5:27Speaker 1: according to the Astros, for a while. And these injuries
- 5:30Speaker 1: are definitely having an uh an effect on on this playoff.
- 5:36Speaker 1: On this playoff phrase, I mean Roman Anthony for the
- 5:39Speaker 1: Red Sox, he's probably gonna be out until next year
- 5:42Speaker 1: with with the with the injury to his to his oblique.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I believe it is uh he had he quickly became
- 5:50Speaker 1: their best player after they brought him up. Uh he
- 5:55Speaker 1: got off a little bit of a slow start, but
- 5:57Speaker 1: then he's he's been breaking UH. And But for the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Red Sox, this is like a bonus year. They're gonna
- 6:04Speaker 1: make the playoffs. Obviously, I don't know how far they're
- 6:06Speaker 1: gonna go, but it looks like the Toronto Blue Jays
- 6:13Speaker 1: believe that or not. According to finish with the best
- 6:15Speaker 1: have a great opportunity to pass the Tigers for the
- 6:20Speaker 1: best record in the American League. And the Tigers have
- 6:22Speaker 1: been under five hundred for like the last sixty five
- 6:25Speaker 1: sixty six games, so they haven't they haven't played well, Alex.
- 6:29Speaker 1: This whatever, these final six teams are in and I
- 6:32Speaker 1: know in the American League it looks like just about
- 6:34Speaker 1: it might be just about everybody be settled and nationally
- 6:37Speaker 1: get still a little bit wide open at the end,
- 6:39Speaker 1: with the Mets just in free fall, even though they
- 6:42Speaker 1: won their last two games. But once you get to
- 6:45Speaker 1: the playoffs, Alex, any one of those of those twelve
- 6:49Speaker 1: playoff teams could win it. And now, with ten games
- 6:52Speaker 1: to go in the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers certainly
- 6:56Speaker 1: are not the shlock that everybody thought they would be
- 7:00Speaker 1: when the season began. There's just something missing there right.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Now for the Dodgers that was wild the filly. So
- 7:09Speaker 2: let's go there for a minute, because o'tani is doing something, Ruthie,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and I mean, I just feel like that's the only
- 7:14Speaker 2: way you could call it. Fifty strikeouts, fifty homers in
- 7:18Speaker 2: the season. Lou you're the nostal, You're the history guy.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I don't think I've heard that stat uttered since the Ruth,
- 7:27Speaker 2: that guy named Babe Ruth.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Right, You're probably right. I don't think there was anybody
- 7:31Speaker 1: in between who's done this. Obviously, you've know my feelings
- 7:37Speaker 1: on the What I think is just not a fair
- 7:41Speaker 1: comparison between Shone o'tanni, who's a fantastic player, fantastic hitter
- 7:46Speaker 1: because he doesn't play in the field, and Babe Ruth.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Babe Ruth is the greatest team player in any sport
- 7:53Speaker 1: in my opinion, of all time. And but yeah, what
- 7:59Speaker 1: Otani's done it great. I'm sure that I don't know
- 8:02Speaker 1: if the Dodgers are playing possum with him, how he's
- 8:05Speaker 1: going to be used in the playoffs. Almost the Dodgers
- 8:09Speaker 1: have just, you know, just floated through the regular season.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But you know, there there are two games ahead of Padres,
- 8:20Speaker 1: and if the Padres had won a couple of more
- 8:23Speaker 1: games against them when the Dodgers swept them a couple
- 8:26Speaker 1: of couple of weeks ago, things would be different. But
- 8:30Speaker 1: we'll see if the Dodgers could turn it on and off.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm stilling to believe that that's not gonna happen. I'm
- 8:35Speaker 1: not saying that they can't win the World Series. I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: not saying that, but it's not going to be the
- 8:43Speaker 1: layup that everybody thought when the season began.
- 8:49Speaker 2: No, no, it won't. And you know, repeating is not easy.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, look, the Yanks were very fortunate to have
- 8:55Speaker 2: that run, but repeating is very difficult. And it's one
- 9:00Speaker 2: of those things where a team that's on the defense
- 9:03Speaker 2: of a championship, they just have not looked like a
- 9:05Speaker 2: title defender right now.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But they really haven't. And again, they have back end
- 9:09Speaker 1: issues with their bullpen, as just about every major league
- 9:13Speaker 1: team does, and I think it goes back to ahead.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Oh my god, lo back end issues. Has a ten
- 9:20Speaker 2: to one Yankee game end up a ten to nine
- 9:21Speaker 2: Yankee game. I mean, that's a problem right there.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It is, No, there's no doubt about it. And it's
- 9:26Speaker 1: not a Yankee issue. It's all these teams. Nothing, no
- 9:30Speaker 1: only is safe anymore. And I think it look at
- 9:34Speaker 1: the Mets did last night and the midst of this
- 9:37Speaker 1: going in they were going to pitch homes and they
- 9:40Speaker 1: didn't say how they were gonna split up, but they
- 9:42Speaker 1: took homes out after four effective innings at fifty three pitches.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And they brought in Seimaniyah, who had it been effective lately,
- 9:51Speaker 1: had a bullpen and he pitched five effective innings that
- 9:55Speaker 1: saved Mets. Bullpen. Get done this big time. It's it's
- 10:02Speaker 1: wide open.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Alex Well, yeah, I know that the Mets being the Padres,
- 10:05Speaker 2: the way they did it was a little surprising because,
- 10:08Speaker 2: let's face it, they have just lost eight in a
- 10:11Speaker 2: row and they look like they're just in a slog.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You've been saying they're not hitting, and I mean, I
- 10:16Speaker 2: don't want to put all the blame on Helsley. I
- 10:17Speaker 2: think that's wrong, but apparently he's he's been a reason
- 10:20Speaker 2: why some of this stuff's been.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well it's not Believe me, it's way past Helsley's.
- 10:24Speaker 1: This is a fault. But they got wrong. Hey, I said,
- 10:29Speaker 1: this is fantastic, but obviously he uh, he hasn't he
- 10:36Speaker 1: hasn't pitched. Well, I think a little bit, and said, now,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I don't they They can't chance them right now in
- 10:45Speaker 1: any kind of clutch situation. They just can't. You can
- 10:50Speaker 1: almost see the look of fear on the on the
- 10:52Speaker 1: guy's face, which is not good. I don't know if
- 10:55Speaker 1: he's one of these guys who can't play under the
- 10:58Speaker 1: bright lights of New York. And yes, playing in New
- 11:01Speaker 1: York is different than playing in Saint Louis or playing
- 11:04Speaker 1: in Minnesota or playing in Milwaukee. It's different. You have
- 11:09Speaker 1: so many eyes of the media and the fans looking
- 11:12Speaker 1: down upon you. But you don't know that until you
- 11:15Speaker 1: get a guy you know. You know ten years ago
- 11:18Speaker 1: the Mets got Sess for this. He didn't care. He
- 11:21Speaker 1: put the team on his back end. They got all
- 11:23Speaker 1: the way to Game five of the World Series. But
- 11:26Speaker 1: mostly he was.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Part of that nine home run memorable game against Philly.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I'll still never forget that to this day.
- 11:31Speaker 1: That was. Yeah. I mean, you have guys like that,
- 11:34Speaker 1: but mostly in the trade deadline, you have guys who
- 11:37Speaker 1: really don't make contributions.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Now he's done, since he got traded up to New York.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I don't know what he's done for the Mets. Y.
- 11:45Speaker 1: No, that's another good point. Mullins hasn't hasn't done anything.
- 11:49Speaker 1: But the Phillies were able to get Harrison Vader, who
- 11:53Speaker 1: has been fantastic for them, and and Dorin who they
- 11:59Speaker 1: got the best relief pitcher, and they have won the
- 12:01Speaker 1: control for two years. And that the fully bullpen was
- 12:07Speaker 1: not in good shade. Once they got Durant from Minnesota,
- 12:10Speaker 1: he rectified that, and a couple of weeks ago, I said,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I'm not sure if the Phillies could win with that
- 12:16Speaker 1: with Wheeler being out until next year. I'm gonna have
- 12:19Speaker 1: to take that back. They might be able to do it,
- 12:22Speaker 1: especially they're closing in on the best record in the
- 12:26Speaker 1: National League and we'll have home could have a chance
- 12:29Speaker 1: that home field, you know, throughout the playoffs.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Well, Phillies, And I tell you that Schwarber All Star
- 12:36Speaker 2: Game is what he needed. That guy's been hitting NonStop
- 12:39Speaker 2: and it's probably electric electrified the whole lineup. I mean,
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's just been a different Philly team coming out of
- 12:44Speaker 2: the break. And I know everybody said the Phillies needed
- 12:46Speaker 2: that break to begin with, so what what a turnaround? Now?
- 12:51Speaker 2: I just got the cub score they've been leading, and
- 12:53Speaker 2: I'm reminded former Yankee and former cub who won the
- 12:57Speaker 2: World Series with the Cubbies. And Rizzo retiring and maybe
- 13:02Speaker 2: we'll get to see him at the bakery now there, Louis.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. It looks like he signed on
- 13:09Speaker 1: with the Cubs as an ambassador. I know he was
- 13:12Speaker 1: at the Yankee game with his wife and his kid
- 13:13Speaker 1: last week. But then a couple of days later, after
- 13:16Speaker 1: he retired and the Cub signed him as an ambassador,
- 13:18Speaker 1: he was he was in the outfield bleachers having to
- 13:22Speaker 1: be with all those loyal Cup fans.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Well, did you see that jersey that's designed by I
- 13:26Speaker 2: think all the kids are something that have been It's
- 13:29Speaker 2: an emotional jersey that that was signed by all the
- 13:33Speaker 2: kids at the at one of the local hospitals. And
- 13:36Speaker 2: you know that foundation he has is really special as well.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Well. He had he overcame cancer when he was in
- 13:42Speaker 1: the Red Sox organization and he had a He had
- 13:45Speaker 1: a fine career and you know he'll always be part
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the Cub team that broke the one hundred and
- 13:53Speaker 1: eight year streak. The final out he recorded the final
- 13:57Speaker 1: hour on to throw from from third and uh, that's history.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Being of history. And I gotta make this plug here.
- 14:05Speaker 2: You know what I'm wearing right now as we talk,
- 14:08Speaker 2: the CC Sabbatia Hall of Fame jersey, which I got
- 14:12Speaker 2: from Fanatics thanks to my link. So there you go.
- 14:15Speaker 2: If you want that jersey, you can also get the
- 14:18Speaker 2: the link in my in the description below, But hey
- 14:22Speaker 2: got an honor CEC. I have my g or one
- 14:24Speaker 2: as well. Another couple of Hall of famers there for
- 14:27Speaker 2: the Yankees. Uh, you know, I've been talking about Rizzo
- 14:29Speaker 2: and the Hall of Fame. I don't know. He's borderline,
- 14:33Speaker 2: isn't he?
- 14:33Speaker 1: But he could make He's not Alex. I love him
- 14:36Speaker 1: as a player. He's not. He's not borderline. He's not
- 14:39Speaker 1: a Hall of Fame. He's not. He's very good. There'll
- 14:43Speaker 1: be a great cub. They'll put him in Hillock. He'll
- 14:46Speaker 1: come to the uh you know, the ten year anniversary
- 14:49Speaker 1: of well, it's already it's going to be ten years
- 14:52Speaker 1: next year. I'm sure I'm gonna have something. He'll be
- 14:54Speaker 1: on all those things. But he's he was a very
- 14:56Speaker 1: good ball player and outstanding fielder. But we gotta we
- 15:02Speaker 1: gotta start making the Hall of Fame more difficult to
- 15:05Speaker 1: get in like it used to be. We're putting too
- 15:07Speaker 1: many guys in who are just borderline.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Well, and I'll tell you this much, Uh that the
- 15:16Speaker 2: ten year unniversary to me, and the more emotional they
- 15:20Speaker 2: was actually seeing them raise the banner in twenty seventeen,
- 15:23Speaker 2: that was really special. Because who knew we'd see that
- 15:26Speaker 2: happening in our lifetime.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Louis Well again, everybody thought after they first of all,
- 15:33Speaker 1: there's no way that street should still be going, because
- 15:37Speaker 1: there's no way the Indians should have blown that three
- 15:39Speaker 1: to one lead in games. But you know that things said.
- 15:45Speaker 2: The mismanagement, we're talking about the mismagement of Madden during
- 15:47Speaker 2: that whole.
- 15:48Speaker 1: That's right, they won despite they wont despite Madden's very
- 15:57Speaker 1: let's say, shaky managing, uh down down the stretch. But
- 16:04Speaker 1: the thing is, everybody thought the Cubs were gonna win
- 16:06Speaker 1: at least one more and they didn't. And you know so,
- 16:10Speaker 1: but the baseball.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Now we've seen we know, we saw the Yankees' core
- 16:14Speaker 2: breakup after the one World Series. I think the Cubs
- 16:17Speaker 2: breakup was a little more tough to watch because it
- 16:21Speaker 2: just did not end well for anybody. Right, Madden had
- 16:24Speaker 2: that terrible party always down the road by as leaves
- 16:29Speaker 2: like that. That's just looked ugly, you know, very.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Very very true. And usually break breakups in anything, whether
- 16:40Speaker 1: therefore World Series championship teams, in relationships and whatever, in
- 16:45Speaker 1: losing losing a job, usually they don't go very well.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So uh yeah, so again the Cubs. They have. Cubs
- 16:54Speaker 1: have a fine team. Now they can they can go
- 16:56Speaker 1: to the World Series this year. As is any of
- 17:00Speaker 1: twelve that that will that eventually will make it.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Well, we'll have to see about that. And yet twelve
- 17:07Speaker 2: teams here. You know, I still find the Tigers to
- 17:11Speaker 2: be very fascinating because here's a team that had their
- 17:15Speaker 2: losing streaks and yet they're still up. I mean, they're
- 17:18Speaker 2: dominating the AO Central and it's just it's one of
- 17:21Speaker 2: the funniest things in the whole league is how they've
- 17:23Speaker 2: been able to maintain that big lead while losing.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Well, they were up fourteen. They're gonna win a division.
- 17:29Speaker 1: They knew they were gonna win a division two months ago.
- 17:31Speaker 1: But the lead has gone from fourteen or fourteen and
- 17:34Speaker 1: a half down to five and a half right now.
- 17:36Speaker 1: They're not going to blow the division. But uh, I
- 17:42Speaker 1: don't know if they have they have the picture and
- 17:44Speaker 1: to reach Strubel obviously to carry him to a World Series.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I don't know if they have that the dominant hitter
- 17:52Speaker 1: that I think they could put him on his back
- 17:55Speaker 1: to get to get them through a number of playoff rounds.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But well, you know, we'll have to wait until they
- 18:00Speaker 1: have a great manager and fit in a J. Hinch.
- 18:04Speaker 1: And uh, but if the Texas Rangers get in, Bruce
- 18:10Speaker 1: Boch is a difference maker. And uh, if the Rangers
- 18:15Speaker 1: get in.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Well how does that look? Because obviously the Yanks I
- 18:20Speaker 2: had they were almost competing with the Rangers for that
- 18:22Speaker 2: final spot. Now they've pretty much got themselves back up
- 18:25Speaker 2: to number one. But then you look at that third
- 18:28Speaker 2: one and what is the Guardians? Although they've been dropping
- 18:31Speaker 2: it off a bit, I well know.
- 18:33Speaker 1: The Guardians of once. The Guardians have won ten out
- 18:35Speaker 1: of eleven. Again they were they've lost ten in a row,
- 18:39Speaker 1: then they went on a long streak, then they then
- 18:41Speaker 1: they lost like seven out of nine, and now they've
- 18:43Speaker 1: won ten out of eleven. I think there are two
- 18:46Speaker 1: and a half games out. Can they make it? I guess?
- 18:49Speaker 1: I mean who knows nowadays? I mean, uh, the way
- 18:53Speaker 1: that this has been the most bizarre baseball season that
- 18:56Speaker 1: I that I could remember.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Well, right, because the Blue Jays are five I see
- 19:00Speaker 2: here in.
- 19:00Speaker 1: The Remember the blue Jays are five, but they're really
- 19:03Speaker 1: six because even if by some chance the Yankees catch
- 19:06Speaker 1: them and they finished in a tie, the Blue Jays
- 19:10Speaker 1: get the tie breaker, but I don't think the Yankees
- 19:13Speaker 1: are gonna make them five games, even though the next
- 19:16Speaker 1: four games are against the Twins and and the White
- 19:19Speaker 1: Sox and then I don't know where they come home
- 19:22Speaker 1: and they play who they play? They play, Oh, they
- 19:26Speaker 1: play the Orioles this weekend and next weekend. So I
- 19:29Speaker 1: mean the Yankee schedule, and they've taken advantage of the schedule.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Credit to them. They're in good shape. I mean they're
- 19:37Speaker 1: they're in uh so, so uh we'll see and two
- 19:44Speaker 1: weeks from yesterday we'll we'll see the Wildcod Round. So
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's here, Alex, Yeah, no, only isn't here.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I have to give a shout out to the Banana
- 19:58Speaker 2: Sabana Bananas for selling out Yank Stateum. And this is
- 20:00Speaker 2: a group that started in the smaller stadium obviously didn't
- 20:04Speaker 2: really have many ticket sales. Now they're touring ballparks Yankee
- 20:08Speaker 2: Stadium and I know someone like, well, are you okay
- 20:10Speaker 2: with them turning Yankee Stitium into a circus? Blah blah blah,
- 20:13Speaker 2: And you know, then the question is this is what
- 20:15Speaker 2: George seimern I would have wanted. Look, it's a new era.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I love what they're doing. I think they're keeping fans
- 20:21Speaker 2: engaged with baseball in a different way.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Well, that's that's true. And I'm sure the Yankees like
- 20:26Speaker 1: to check that. The Savannah Bananas wrote out to play
- 20:30Speaker 1: at Yankee Stadium. I'm sure mister Steinbrenner were like that too.
- 20:33Speaker 2: There's like the Rays and their old deal there with
- 20:36Speaker 2: with you know, right using Steinburner Field. So it's been
- 20:41Speaker 2: a it's been an odd year, including that whole tour
- 20:44Speaker 2: has been actually a sidebar to the whole year because
- 20:47Speaker 2: everything where they go, they bring out all these MLB legends.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I'm sure you've been seeing that.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, they have. It's a it's very interesting
- 21:00Speaker 1: to be sure.
- 21:01Speaker 2: All right, I know you would have an NFL. I
- 21:03Speaker 2: know people want to listen to your take on the NFL.
- 21:05Speaker 2: We were watching Russell Wilson throwing down the field a
- 21:11Speaker 2: couple of times and hit neighbors, hit Robinson, who last
- 21:16Speaker 2: year couldn't really make a catch. Now he's making that
- 21:18Speaker 2: amazing catch for Wilson, but then they let him run
- 21:22Speaker 2: all over him. It's just it's one of these things
- 21:24Speaker 2: where it's not one thing, it's the other. Right now,
- 21:26Speaker 2: with the Giants.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Well, I gotta say one thing. I never thought that
- 21:31Speaker 1: Russell Wilson could play game like he played on Sunday.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I mean had a throwback from six seven years ago
- 21:39Speaker 1: when he was at the height of his powers. I mean,
- 21:41Speaker 1: he threw some amazing passes, some beautifully time passes and
- 21:47Speaker 1: like you said to one Del Robinson with twenty five
- 21:50Speaker 1: seconds to go to elite neighbors, which I thought put
- 21:55Speaker 1: the Giants ahead. In the old days, it would have.
- 21:58Speaker 1: But now in this era of Aget mac megalleg field
- 22:02Speaker 1: goal kickers who can kick from sixty four yards and
- 22:05Speaker 1: sixty yards, the game isn't over. And uh, I don't
- 22:12Speaker 1: like the new NFL kickoff rules. Putting ball putting kickoffs,
- 22:16Speaker 1: you know, at the thirty five yard line something, depending
- 22:18Speaker 1: on where it is. Sometimes it's at the twenty, sometimes
- 22:21Speaker 1: it's at the thirty five. Alex thirty you put, you
- 22:24Speaker 1: go to the thirty five yard line and you did
- 22:29Speaker 1: what like Dallas did the other day and Greg Olsen
- 22:32Speaker 1: nailed it. The Giants are playing too soft. They're playing
- 22:36Speaker 1: too soft. One pass they hit the tight end for
- 22:40Speaker 1: that big play. It was right on the right on
- 22:42Speaker 1: the Cowboys star which was at midfield, and uh, Aubrey
- 22:49Speaker 1: has a Brandon Orby has a chance to make it
- 22:51Speaker 1: from sixty seven yards. He's that great. And uh, the
- 22:58Speaker 1: Giants lost that game because they allowed that sixty four
- 23:03Speaker 1: yardfield goal Atti and go to overtime. We have a
- 23:07Speaker 1: I don't want to say this is a problem, but
- 23:10Speaker 1: these the Jets got beat by a sixty yardfield goal
- 23:13Speaker 1: last week, which pissed me off. This week, obviously, they
- 23:18Speaker 1: got overrun by a Bills team that is.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Just, you know, three levels above that, and that field
- 23:23Speaker 2: goal reminded me of how they lost in the Broncos
- 23:25Speaker 2: last year.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely so. And last week the Giants and Russell
- 23:34Speaker 1: Wilson looked like he was washed up. Giants can't do
- 23:37Speaker 1: anything offensively. When you score thirty seven points, you gotta
- 23:40Speaker 1: win the game. You can't. When you score thirty two points,
- 23:44Speaker 1: like the Jets did last week, you gotta win the game.
- 23:47Speaker 1: That's only the eighth time in Jet history in the
- 23:50Speaker 1: sixty four year history of New York Jets that they
- 23:53Speaker 1: scored thirty two points and loss. Very frustrating. Obviously, the
- 24:00Speaker 1: g Ain't situation is different because they had coach and
- 24:03Speaker 1: Jeril manager in their third year, the Jets coach and
- 24:06Speaker 1: Geral manager in their second game. But they gotta do something,
- 24:12Speaker 1: and I'm in general they're gonna do as we talked
- 24:15Speaker 1: about it last year. I think they're gonna do something
- 24:18Speaker 1: with the field goal. I don't know if it's bringing in.
- 24:21Speaker 1: They're not gonna change the point value of a field
- 24:24Speaker 1: goal of depending on where you kick it from. I
- 24:27Speaker 1: think they're going to narrow the goal post. I really
- 24:31Speaker 1: believe that's gonna happen within the next five years.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I really be The goal posts are too wide right now.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I think you're gonna see something like maybe
- 24:41Speaker 1: like Arena League sized goal posts because these guys are
- 24:45Speaker 1: just too good. A quick history lesson here. Jan Stenerude
- 24:50Speaker 1: was the first kicker to make the Pro Football Hall
- 24:52Speaker 1: of Fame. He played for the Super Bowl champion Kansas
- 24:55Speaker 1: City Chiefs in nineteen, the nineteen sixty nine champions, and
- 25:00Speaker 1: later played for the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He was considered the greatest kicker in the history of
- 25:06Speaker 1: the league. When he made the Hall of Fame. His
- 25:11Speaker 1: success rate was sixty two point five. He was successful
- 25:16Speaker 1: sixty two percent of the time. Now you look at
- 25:20Speaker 1: a kid like Cameron Dicker, which half of NFL fans
- 25:23Speaker 1: don't even know who the heck he is the kicker
- 25:25Speaker 1: for the Los Angeles Chargers. The other night he kicked
- 25:29Speaker 1: the field goal Alex. He's ninety five out of one
- 25:33Speaker 1: hundred and one in his career, he's kicking field goals
- 25:37Speaker 1: at over ninety four percent. So Jon stener Rude wouldn't
- 25:41Speaker 1: even make a practice squad in twenty twenty five.
- 25:46Speaker 2: The kickers are on steroids or something like that.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Well, obviously they're stronger, they're better athletes. There's there's more
- 25:54Speaker 1: specialized you gotta remember too. And this was not in
- 25:57Speaker 1: center Root's case, but a lot of kickers in the
- 25:59Speaker 1: old days play other positions and it's it's but it's not.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't think it's entertaining. You know, you complete one
- 26:10Speaker 1: twenty two yard pass and somebody's kicking a fifty eight
- 26:13Speaker 1: yard field goal. I just you know, I don't think
- 26:17Speaker 1: that's entertaining. And I think the NFL will do something
- 26:19Speaker 1: about it. I really, and you know me, I am
- 26:22Speaker 1: not one for major rule changes, but this one, I
- 26:26Speaker 1: think what might be.
- 26:27Speaker 2: For that Aubrey kicker, I mean, he made one from
- 26:29Speaker 2: the logo. I don't know how many people can do that.
- 26:32Speaker 2: It's just I thought he was gonna miss it. It's
- 26:35Speaker 2: just straight through the uprights. Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 1: No. And and Aubrey in a preseason game this year,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I believe it was in Cleveland, made a seventy yard
- 26:45Speaker 1: field goal. The seventy yard field goal is coming, Alex,
- 26:49Speaker 1: It's coming. It might come this week. That's how close
- 26:53Speaker 1: we are, all right.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Well, another thing that's coming this week if you haven't
- 26:57Speaker 2: heard already, and I don't just touched on, but justin
- 27:00Speaker 2: Fields will not be, you know, making the start. It'll
- 27:05Speaker 2: be Tyrod Taylor. And we all know that name. He's
- 27:08Speaker 2: been in the Tristaid area. Now now there'll be thirty
- 27:11Speaker 2: third team he plays with the Tristaid area. But I'm
- 27:15Speaker 2: curious to see how that system works. I really like Tyrod.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I think is a great quarterback, even if he's gotten older.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Might be the jolt that the Jets need right now.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Well, I mean, Fields play a fantastic game in Game one.
- 27:27Speaker 1: He really didn't maybe as good a game as he
- 27:30Speaker 1: ever play. Last week he was they had no chance.
- 27:34Speaker 1: They only ran the they only ran forty seven snaps
- 27:37Speaker 1: in the whole game offensively, they only had the ball
- 27:40Speaker 1: for twenty one minutes. They were overrun by a team
- 27:42Speaker 1: that is light years better than them and his Super
- 27:45Speaker 1: Bowl playoff championship level ready in the Buffalo Bills. You
- 27:49Speaker 1: can make the argument that Josh Allen has court Patrick
- 27:52Speaker 1: Mahomes as the best player in the league. That's legitimate
- 27:59Speaker 1: argum mint. But the Jets, howes, obviously have a lot
- 28:03Speaker 1: of work to do, and I don't know what the
- 28:06Speaker 1: coaching staff and and Darren Moochie's going to do. They
- 28:12Speaker 1: need a receiver, they're short of a receiver they need
- 28:16Speaker 1: on the back end. Really, the only defensive back that
- 28:20Speaker 1: doing anything is Sauce Gardner. They need safety men. So
- 28:25Speaker 1: this off, this is not as good a roster as
- 28:28Speaker 1: it was two years ago or even the beginning of
- 28:33Speaker 1: last year. But Tyrod Taylor, yeah he's a career back up.
- 28:40Speaker 1: He started, He's made the playoffs. Yeah they could. It's
- 28:45Speaker 1: been than starting Zach Wilson, that's for sure. And unfortunately
- 28:50Speaker 1: the kid missing Field's missing action hurts his development with
- 28:56Speaker 1: the Jets. As Jets try to put their program together,
- 28:59Speaker 1: I was already disappointed at Jets, who are super aggressive
- 29:02Speaker 1: the week before, in super physical week before. We're on
- 29:06Speaker 1: the receiving end of all the physicality last week. So
- 29:11Speaker 1: so they play another physical team this week at Tampa.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And let me say one thing about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I liked their team very much. And Baker Mayfield. You know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: people like to criticize him, he's not a top level quarterback. Well, Alex,
- 29:28Speaker 1: let me tell you one thing. The kid's a tremendous
- 29:30Speaker 1: competitor and he's a very, very good quarterback, and that
- 29:34Speaker 1: he could lead them to the Super Bowl.
- 29:36Speaker 2: And were we not gushing about him last year? I
- 29:39Speaker 2: remember we were both like aw that he came back
- 29:42Speaker 2: and was so strong for Tampa last year.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's true, and we weren't dushing about him
- 29:48Speaker 1: last year. And the guy, the guy took a physical
- 29:51Speaker 1: being the other night. He's not afraid, he's not take
- 29:53Speaker 1: afraid to take a risk. He could be a Super
- 29:57Speaker 1: Bowl championship quarterback. It doesn't mean that he's on the
- 30:00Speaker 1: level of Mahomes or Herbert or Allen or Jalen Hurts
- 30:09Speaker 1: or Burrow. Unfortunately Burrow has another terrible injury. But I
- 30:15Speaker 1: love Mayfield. I like the Tampa Bay team very much.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I really do. I think they have a chance if
- 30:22Speaker 1: outside of the quote unquote the real contenders they had
- 30:26Speaker 1: the next.
- 30:27Speaker 2: One night because they played the Commanders pretty well in
- 30:29Speaker 2: that postseason game. They didn't win, but they had a
- 30:31Speaker 2: good showing against them. I think I like them.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I think I think they have good receivers. They can
- 30:38Speaker 1: run the ball. Irving's a good runner, They're physical, and
- 30:44Speaker 1: like I said, I'm not into prediction making, but have
- 30:47Speaker 1: a feeling that after about four thirty on on Sunday afternoon,
- 30:52Speaker 1: gents'll b owen three.
- 30:53Speaker 2: All right, let me ask you this tell us about
- 30:56Speaker 2: the dichotomy of Tom Brady going from the broadcast booth
- 31:00Speaker 2: to then Vegas. I mean, is there some restrictions yet?
- 31:03Speaker 2: I don't know exactly the dichotomy of all this, How
- 31:06Speaker 2: he can still own a team, even minority, while being
- 31:10Speaker 2: on the air.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Well going into the NFL there's no restrictions and the
- 31:15Speaker 1: Raiders or Brady did nothing wrong. I think it's ridiculous.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I think, you know, it's the quote unquote, it's a
- 31:23Speaker 1: bad look. Yeah, it's a bad look. I just think
- 31:25Speaker 1: it's it's just it's a it sets a very bad precedent.
- 31:29Speaker 1: He should not be allowed to go in into the
- 31:33Speaker 1: coaches booth, or if he wants to go on the
- 31:35Speaker 1: coaches booth, he should forfeit his NFL Sunday First first
- 31:42Speaker 1: team analyst job to somebody else. So I think it's
- 31:50Speaker 1: a bad look, I really do. I think it's not right.
- 31:55Speaker 2: It's it's it's all over the place, a mess, and
- 31:58Speaker 2: I got it. It's being a broadcast. I gotta give
- 32:00Speaker 2: a credit to Joe Davis, who can go from calling
- 32:02Speaker 2: an NFL game Sunday to calling Otani's fiftieth homer last night.
- 32:07Speaker 2: The guy is versatile, and you know, I know he
- 32:10Speaker 2: can rub people the wrong way with his sort of
- 32:12Speaker 2: very rigid way he talks. But he's he's a you know,
- 32:15Speaker 2: his versatility's got to be complimented.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Oh, he's a basketball announcer, he's a football announcer, he's
- 32:22Speaker 1: a baseball announcer. He's okay, he's okay. I you know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's going to uh uh, he's not
- 32:31Speaker 1: gonna forget make anybody forget Vince Scully. Nobody is obviously
- 32:35Speaker 1: Vin Scully's at the top of the old time game.
- 32:37Speaker 1: But uh yeah, he's okay.
- 32:40Speaker 2: All right, let me let's go back to the gridiron though,
- 32:43Speaker 2: on the field, because we see Burrow out and this
- 32:46Speaker 2: kid has had the toughest luck of all these quarterbacks
- 32:50Speaker 2: that have been, you know, in their elite in the
- 32:54Speaker 2: elite class, he's had the toughest time, I mean again,
- 32:59Speaker 2: and the Bengals have to wonder where they're gonna.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Go next, no doubt. I mean, they have a decent
- 33:06Speaker 1: backup in Jake Browning. He's a high risk guy. I mean,
- 33:10Speaker 1: he'll get you up and down the field a little
- 33:14Speaker 1: bit like Jameis Winston. You know, he'll throw, you know,
- 33:19Speaker 1: he'll take some chances which end up in turnovers. But
- 33:23Speaker 1: I feel sorry for Burrow. He's in the prime of
- 33:24Speaker 1: his physical career and he's gonna miss another chunk of
- 33:30Speaker 1: the season. Who knows if he can come back in
- 33:32Speaker 1: middle of December and play those last couple of games.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Who knows where the Bengals are going to be. But
- 33:39Speaker 1: you look at the quarterbacks. Alex Burrow out this week,
- 33:42Speaker 1: Justin Fields out this week, Brock Purty out this week,
- 33:46Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy out this week, Jaden Daniels out this week.
- 33:53Speaker 1: That's why you see those horrible roughing the passer penalties,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and I saw four on Sunday one in the Jet game, one,
- 34:00Speaker 1: the Giant game, one in the Philadelphia Kansas City game,
- 34:04Speaker 1: one in the Minnesota Atlanta game on Sunday night. That Alex,
- 34:09Speaker 1: when I was your age, there'd be the flags would
- 34:12Speaker 1: still be in the pocket of these officials. But I
- 34:15Speaker 1: just went down the list of the quarterbacks being hurt.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And without good quarterback play, the game sucks. And that's
- 34:23Speaker 1: why the officials throw the flag so quickly. Without quarterbacks,
- 34:30Speaker 1: you don't you really don't have a competitive game. And
- 34:33Speaker 1: that's why these these quarterbacks are are protected.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I didn't realize there was that many that
- 34:41Speaker 2: are not playing this week, and that's just that's not
- 34:44Speaker 2: a good look for the NFL either though, right, I mean,
- 34:46Speaker 2: you got to have some of these guys playing.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what the NFL could do.
- 34:51Speaker 1: They've made the game. They're so aware of health in
- 34:56Speaker 1: the game, even though they allow stupid things like the
- 35:00Speaker 1: tush push to stay and the Eagles are are moving
- 35:04Speaker 1: before the tush push and it's hard to see them
- 35:07Speaker 1: with they're moving illegally because the players all bunched up together.
- 35:11Speaker 1: But the league is doing everything to keep the players
- 35:15Speaker 1: as healthy as possible. It's a collusion sport. I don't
- 35:19Speaker 1: know what they can do, Alex, I really don't. But losing.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Just think it's week three and one, two, three, four, five,
- 35:27Speaker 1: six starting quarterbacks are not playing this week. Who's gonna
- 35:31Speaker 1: get hurt on on Sunday or Monday.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And beat the Steelers. So there are a few games
- 35:38Speaker 2: that we were tracking. While I saw the Seahawks beat
- 35:42Speaker 2: the Steelers. A little bit of a surprise there.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I mean, you know, did you did you see the
- 35:46Speaker 1: play that turned to the round?
- 35:48Speaker 2: I don't think we cut that one on Sunday?
- 35:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, Settle just scored and they kicked off
- 35:58Speaker 1: and the kick return misplayed it. It grazed off his
- 36:06Speaker 1: left shoulder, pad, helmet and fingers and rolled into the
- 36:10Speaker 1: end zone. Alex, that's a live ball. He never went
- 36:13Speaker 1: back to retrieve it. One of the special teams for
- 36:17Speaker 1: Seattle jumped on it. Touchdown. Seattle turned the game right around.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Seattle's good. They're very good. They could win that division,
- 36:27Speaker 1: they could win the NFC West. They got a good defense.
- 36:32Speaker 1: They're good, you know.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And the other thing, you know, the other thing I'm
- 36:38Speaker 2: thinking of is is just a there hasn't been. Maybe
- 36:43Speaker 2: I'm not following it closely, but has there been a
- 36:46Speaker 2: standout game to you yet? I guess the Chiefs going
- 36:48Speaker 2: on in too is the storyline. I mean, of all
- 36:51Speaker 2: these storylines, that's the one that resonates most because they're
- 36:54Speaker 2: the Chiefs and oh my god, what's wrong with Mahomes?
- 36:56Speaker 1: That's the question? Now, Well, it's funny you get that
- 37:00Speaker 1: you bring up the Chiefs because I was going to
- 37:02Speaker 1: talk about them a couple of seconds ago. By the way,
- 37:06Speaker 1: the two best games just to watch as a fan
- 37:09Speaker 1: this year Week one with Jets, Steelers and we even
- 37:13Speaker 1: though both of our both New York teams lost, and
- 37:15Speaker 1: week to His Cowboys and Giants, they were the two
- 37:18Speaker 1: best teams to walk if you're if you're just an
- 37:20Speaker 1: NFL fan with sitting on the couch just watching the game,
- 37:25Speaker 1: those were the two best games so far, even though
- 37:27Speaker 1: both the Jets and Giants did lose. What's wrong with
- 37:29Speaker 1: the Chiefs, Alex Alex. They have major offensive problems, they
- 37:35Speaker 1: have no skill position players, Xavier Worthy as a dislocated shoulder.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Obviously this is I would be shocked if this is
- 37:44Speaker 1: not the last year for Kelsey. Their offensive line is shaky.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Their running game Isaiah Pacheco looks like he's slowed down
- 37:53Speaker 1: a bit. Uh Rashid rice Is are suspended for the
- 37:57Speaker 1: first six games. If you got suspended more. But that's
- 38:00Speaker 1: neither here nor there. And as great as Mahomes is,
- 38:05Speaker 1: he needs some help. Ah, they're in trouble. They were
- 38:09Speaker 1: in a little bit of trouble. I want to see
- 38:13Speaker 1: how they bounced back.
- 38:15Speaker 2: And ken they bounced back against the Giants who looked
- 38:17Speaker 2: like they were on the doorstep of winning Sunday. So
- 38:19Speaker 2: maybe they opened that door, you know. And I hate
- 38:23Speaker 2: these though in two years because I get teased a
- 38:25Speaker 2: little bit. Right, Oh my god, wherehere were we at
- 38:27Speaker 2: all in two in two thousand and seven o eight, Well,
- 38:29Speaker 2: they beat Washington and the rest is history. Right, Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 2: it makes me hopeful a little bit.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know, but uh, that was a different
- 38:39Speaker 1: year of my son.
- 38:42Speaker 2: And but the defense here should be as good as
- 38:45Speaker 2: that giant defense, if not a little less. But the
- 38:48Speaker 2: way they were characterized as this big defensive line in
- 38:52Speaker 2: this big you know ed dresser of duel Car, I mean,
- 38:56Speaker 2: they didn't look like the defense that everybody thought they
- 38:58Speaker 2: were going to be going into the ear. That's the
- 39:00Speaker 2: most I think we were ranked.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Actually, all right, again, how many NFL games has Abdukara played? Two?
- 39:08Speaker 1: He's gonna be fine. The thing is, you know they
- 39:14Speaker 1: were run on a little bit, and uh, you know,
- 39:17Speaker 1: it'll take a little time.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Now. I have some flashes where they sacked za Dak.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I thought those are some good moments there where they
- 39:24Speaker 2: jumped on him. But then you know, and I still
- 39:28Speaker 2: want more from Burns. That's the guy I really think
- 39:30Speaker 2: about because he's really he's got the talent. He's just
- 39:34Speaker 2: got to make the tackle.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Well, he's a talented guy and he's had a very
- 39:39Speaker 1: good career. Burns has now Alex I asked you this
- 39:42Speaker 1: question was Sunday night Russell Wilson performance a throwback of
- 39:48Speaker 1: five years ago? Was that a one time thing? Or
- 39:51Speaker 1: was what we saw the first week where he was terrible?
- 39:57Speaker 1: He had no time to throw against water.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I think he's going to be very comfortab with dark
- 40:00Speaker 2: coming in and every other every third down to try
- 40:03Speaker 2: and get that for I think he's gonna be very
- 40:05Speaker 2: comfortable in that system and that can help Russell Wilson thrive.
- 40:09Speaker 1: So I asked you this Russell Wilson. He's not gonna
- 40:12Speaker 1: throw of one to fifty ods every week like he
- 40:15Speaker 1: did last week. But come to the NFL trade deadline,
- 40:19Speaker 1: which I think is is right after Game seven or
- 40:23Speaker 1: eight something like that. I actually have to look up
- 40:25Speaker 1: to date this year. Would they with the Giants trade
- 40:31Speaker 1: Russell Wilson to one of these teams that have an
- 40:35Speaker 1: injured quarterback who are who are a contender? Would they
- 40:38Speaker 1: trade Russell Wilson in Minnesota? By the way, Minnesota should
- 40:42Speaker 1: have never let Donald go, but that was their business.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Now they know, And that's that's tough with McCarthy because,
- 40:50Speaker 2: as you know, I've loved him since the Michigan days
- 40:53Speaker 2: and everybody's like, well, Pennic's got him this time. Listen,
- 40:56Speaker 2: the guy is a world chap A, a NCAA title
- 40:59Speaker 2: over Hendick. So whatever happens to the NFL in that
- 41:02Speaker 2: regards is, it is what it is. JJ McCarthy will
- 41:06Speaker 2: be fine in the Viking system, I think, But.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Well I have to get over that ankle injury first,
- 41:11Speaker 1: so so we'll see. But I mean, the will the
- 41:13Speaker 1: Giants dangle Russell Wilson out they're at the trade deadline
- 41:19Speaker 1: that's a possible waity.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Why haven't we seen Winston? What's up with that? That's
- 41:22Speaker 2: what I'm trying to put.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Well, I mean, obviously they've designated their first and second
- 41:26Speaker 1: string quarterback and and Jameis Winston. Will they dangled Jameis
- 41:30Speaker 1: Winston at the trade deadline, Alex. Other quarterbacks are gonna
- 41:33Speaker 1: get hurt between now and the trade deadline. We know it.
- 41:37Speaker 1: It's it's the nature. It's the nature of the sport.
- 41:40Speaker 1: But how about hats off to Daniel Jones. The Indianapolis
- 41:46Speaker 1: Colts have not punted this year, Alex. They have not punted.
- 41:51Speaker 2: It's almost like, what if you gave Jones and Manning
- 41:54Speaker 2: and sa Quon an offensive line? How different things will
- 41:58Speaker 2: be in New York right now?
- 42:00Speaker 1: Well, I mean, obviously he's thriving these first two weeks.
- 42:05Speaker 1: First two weeks don't mean you know, he's gonna make
- 42:08Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame, but he has been an offensive
- 42:12Speaker 1: druggeraut for the Colts at the quarterback position.
- 42:19Speaker 2: So I mean, so we broke a stroke that has
- 42:22Speaker 2: a strike, you know, a street that has been broken
- 42:26Speaker 2: or hasn't been done since twenty thirteen. I mean, that's
- 42:28Speaker 2: really to not have an opening day win since twenty
- 42:31Speaker 2: thirteen is quite an incredible thing there. So we want
- 42:35Speaker 2: to turn around. And you know, Jones looks like almost
- 42:40Speaker 2: like an MVP caliber quarterback right now, which we didn't
- 42:42Speaker 2: see in New York. Although we all know he was athletic.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It's just he had talent.
- 42:47Speaker 1: We know he could throw the ball. Good for him.
- 42:50Speaker 1: We'll see how long it lasts, all right.
- 42:53Speaker 2: The other team I'm looking forward to seeing more of
- 42:56Speaker 2: is what the Chargers do, because obviously I'm a hardball
- 42:58Speaker 2: guy and I love seeing the Harbor Herbert connection working.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I mean, but didn't think they beat the Chiefs, but
- 43:04Speaker 2: now they're two to zero. Maybe the real deal talk.
- 43:08Speaker 2: And also Drake May I want to cover him too,
- 43:10Speaker 2: because that kid. I knew he was gonna be something
- 43:13Speaker 2: special last year. I think he's been growing to his
- 43:16Speaker 2: own this year and give the Bills a run for
- 43:18Speaker 2: their money. But let's start with Herbert and Harbor.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Well, you know, Harbor is an excellent coach. We know
- 43:25Speaker 1: that he coached an NCAA championship team at Michigan. He
- 43:31Speaker 1: in a likelihood, will get the Charges to the Super
- 43:33Speaker 1: Bowl in the next couple of years. If not this year.
- 43:36Speaker 1: They have an excellent defense. They did suffer an injury
- 43:39Speaker 1: on Monday night with Khalil Mack. I think they they
- 43:41Speaker 1: put him on the injured reserve list and so he'll
- 43:49Speaker 1: miss at least four games, I assume. But one of
- 43:53Speaker 1: the key things that the Charges have done, besides having
- 43:55Speaker 1: a great defense and a great quarterback, they brought somebody
- 43:59Speaker 1: back that they let go last year and he played
- 44:02Speaker 1: for the Bears last year, but he's back, and that's
- 44:05Speaker 1: Keenan Allen, who seems to have great chemistry with Justin Herbert.
- 44:11Speaker 1: The Charges are good and they come into MetLife Staateum
- 44:15Speaker 1: and play the Giants after Kansas City leaves on Sunday night,
- 44:20Speaker 1: so you can get an up close, in personal look
- 44:24Speaker 1: at the Los Angeles Charges on September twenty eighth. They're
- 44:29Speaker 1: very good. Alan.
- 44:29Speaker 2: If I didn't have other obligations, I would definitely want
- 44:32Speaker 2: to be there to see that, especially because Harbaugh, I mean,
- 44:34Speaker 2: just an affinity for the guy really dating back to
- 44:38Speaker 2: the Michigan days. So we'll see what he does. What
- 44:41Speaker 2: they come in with a couple weeks from now, and
- 44:47Speaker 2: I hope he was like, why do you have an
- 44:48Speaker 2: infinity with him? He got suspended. He got this because
- 44:51Speaker 2: he's a good coach. I don't care about the whatever.
- 44:53Speaker 2: He's a coach. And I also feel bad Jeron Moore
- 44:57Speaker 2: has been dealing with the backlash of that too up
- 45:00Speaker 2: in Michigan because he was, uh, he was a great
- 45:02Speaker 2: stand in when he was having the fill in for
- 45:04Speaker 2: for Harvard at the time.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Harvard doesn't have to worry about the ten
- 45:09Speaker 1: year suspension that he got from from college football because
- 45:13Speaker 1: he's never gonna coach in college again. He'll be coaching
- 45:16Speaker 1: in the proach for the rest of his career, probably
- 45:19Speaker 1: with the Chargers. And he's a great coach. And uh,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you know, I think they I think they're going I
- 45:27Speaker 1: think they might break the nine year streak of the
- 45:30Speaker 1: Chiefs winning the AFC West. So we'll see what Week
- 45:34Speaker 1: three brings this week. But one last thing before we go. Uh,
- 45:40Speaker 1: Eddie Jockman passed away the other night, the legendary goalie
- 45:46Speaker 1: for the New York Rangers. He's a Hall of Famer.
- 45:50Speaker 1: He's in the Hall of Fame. I don't know. And
- 45:52Speaker 1: I watched him play his entire career and I was
- 45:56Speaker 1: a big Eddie Jockman fan. Remember when I saw watching
- 45:59Speaker 1: there was only six teams, so we didn't have this
- 46:05Speaker 1: choice of so many teams to follow and to watch.
- 46:10Speaker 1: He was part of a Ranger team that went to
- 46:13Speaker 1: the finals once. They had great players, outstanding players in
- 46:19Speaker 1: the late sixties in the early seventies, they never did
- 46:22Speaker 1: the They never did the job in the postseason. Jockin
- 46:28Speaker 1: was not a great postseason goalie. I remember there's one
- 46:31Speaker 1: game inst the Chicago Black Books at home where he
- 46:34Speaker 1: led in a roller from mid ice. But Eddie Jockmin
- 46:38Speaker 1: was an outstanding goalie and he was part of a
- 46:41Speaker 1: Ranger team that made hockey big in New York, and
- 46:46Speaker 1: obviously it led to why hockey is big and while
- 46:52Speaker 1: we have three teams in the New York metropolitan area
- 46:57Speaker 1: to follow. So I just want to give Eddie Jackman,
- 47:00Speaker 1: at the age of eighty six a little props. He
- 47:03Speaker 1: won the Vesna Trophy. He was part of a Ranger
- 47:06Speaker 1: team that was very entertaining to watch. They just ran
- 47:11Speaker 1: into Bobby Orr and phill Esposito in the Boston Bruins
- 47:15Speaker 1: and then a little bit after that the Broad Street Bully,
- 47:17Speaker 1: so they couldn't handle Because the Rangers were more of
- 47:19Speaker 1: a finesse team other than a physical team, even though
- 47:24Speaker 1: everybody tried to tell Amiel Francis, you had to tough
- 47:27Speaker 1: one up the Ranges a little bit. And Amil Francis
- 47:29Speaker 1: was a general manager and president and coach of the
- 47:31Speaker 1: Rangers at various times who helped put that team together
- 47:35Speaker 1: and with them with the New Garden in sixty eight,
- 47:39Speaker 1: when Madison Square Gone opened in February sixty eight, all
- 47:42Speaker 1: came together and one of the reasons why I believe
- 47:45Speaker 1: in New York is a great hockey area. The New York,
- 47:48Speaker 1: New Jersey metropolitan area is a great hockey area. Eddie
- 47:51Speaker 1: Jockerman Rettel, John Rettel, royerl Bert Dale, Ralph, all those guys,
- 47:59Speaker 1: there was so many on that team. No, they never
- 48:01Speaker 1: went far. They will playoff flops most most of the time,
- 48:05Speaker 1: but they helped. They helped developed why we all love
- 48:10Speaker 1: hockey in the New York, New Jersey metropolitan area. And
- 48:13Speaker 1: looking forward with hockey training camps opening up tomorrow, somebody
- 48:18Speaker 1: think might have opened up today, looking forward to getting
- 48:22Speaker 1: back into the hockey season.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Well before that, the Cubs, with their win today are
- 48:26Speaker 2: in the playoffs, so that's a major deal that'll be
- 48:29Speaker 2: fun to watch them back in October, so that should
- 48:32Speaker 2: be fun. And one last thing before we go, and
- 48:36Speaker 2: it said to lose any jocumane on the heels of
- 48:38Speaker 2: one hundredth anniversary. All these teams coming out with new threads,
- 48:41Speaker 2: as they say, for one hundred years, so it should
- 48:44Speaker 2: be fun to watch that on the ice. But I
- 48:46Speaker 2: want to give a quick shout out to t U
- 48:49Speaker 2: n L for having me out for an event featuring
- 48:53Speaker 2: Key Cunningham on Monday night and a couple other NBA
- 48:58Speaker 2: guys including Pat Bev. I mean you saw the pictures.
- 49:01Speaker 2: That was pretty cool to be there front center with
- 49:03Speaker 2: these guys.
- 49:05Speaker 1: You are hobnobbing with the beautiful people, Alex Garrett as always.
- 49:12Speaker 2: So I want to give it a little shout out
- 49:13Speaker 2: there all right, Lou, always a pleasure. Glad we were
- 49:16Speaker 2: able to connect this week, and uh, you know, just
- 49:19Speaker 2: we gotta keep praying for each other. Base life is
- 49:22Speaker 2: bigger than sports, as we found out, and just got
- 49:26Speaker 2: to keep on that awareness as we enjoyed this the
- 49:28Speaker 2: games we love.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, Alex, Thank you and we'll do this again next week.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Thank you, appreciate you.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Luther Manilo on one leg up, Alex Garrett
