- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Whether you've been writing for a long time or even if you're just starting out, you've got to keep those words flowing because we all get blocked and we all get frustrated sometimes.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: So in this week's shorter episodes, I'm going to share five ways to start writing today.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: If you're struggling with what to write or how to write, I think this is going to be immensely valuable to you.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: If you know what to write, but you haven't yet started, this is going to help get you moving.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: And if you've already started writing and you have a clear direction, I think this will add to your creative arsenal and help keep you moving whenever you get blocked.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So let's dive in.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: The first way to start writing today is actually one of the simplest ways, and that is simply by journaling.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Now I know that a lot of people will dismiss journaling as a waste of time.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Why would they do that?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: It's because by definition, journaling is private and other people will probably not see what you write in your journal.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And the people who dismiss journaling assume that everything you write should be for public consumption, but I don't think that's true at all.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And here's why.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: It's important for you to explore and experiment with your writing.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And whenever you reserve some writing time just for yourself, you can do that without judgment.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Journaling also gives you the opportunity to try things without it needing to be connected with your business or your audience.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Now there are a lot of different frameworks and systems for journaling, and it's super easy to get lost in the sea of options.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: If you don't have a regular journaling habit, I recommend starting with this very simple approach.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Write one page a day for five straight days.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Don't stop writing, don't analyze and don't overthink it, most important of all, just write whatever comes to mind.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: If you do this, this whole exercise should take only five to ten minutes per day, maximum.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: When you get into the flow and you let your creative mind take over without judging or censoring your thoughts, you're going to be really amazed at what comes out.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: We spend so much time thinking about other people's perceptions of our writing that it's hard to get out of the habit of censoring yourself or editing yourself.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So journaling is a very, very simple way to get started writing without the fear of what other people will think.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: So give this a try and you'll immediately see the value of it.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question: How could journaling help you process your experiences and experiment with your writing?
