- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Anytime you work on a big project, there comes a point when you've lost some enthusiasm and you probably start to wonder if you should keep going.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: And I believe this is the moment that separates the amateurs from the professionals.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Amateurs think about how they feel in that moment, and they use that as a gauge to determine whether to continue with the project.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, professionals know that every big project is going to be a slog at some point.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Their emotions during that messy middle of the project are a pretty terrible barometer of whether the project is actually worthwhile.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: So if you've started a big project that you believe in, I think you should keep going and see it through to completion unless there's a compelling reason to quit.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: For example, I'm getting ready to launch my book, The Ghost Powered Author.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And this is a book all about the ghostwriting process, designed really as a sales piece for my prospective clients.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And the slog, quote unquote, kicked in part way through several rounds of editing and revisions on this book.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: And that's really when my commitment to finishing the book kicked in.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So the lesson here is that when the feelings fade, that's when the commitment kicks in and keeps you going because that's what pros do.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And in that moment, I wasn't depending on my emotions to tell me whether the book was worthwhile because I had already decided that it was.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I already knew that the book was going to be really valuable for my business.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I believe that success in any big endeavor is the willingness to stick with it, even when you're not feeling those emotions anymore.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I wish I had known this a long time ago in my life.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I probably would be a lot further along by now in my writing career, and maybe you can relate to that as well.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Well, the good news is that whatever your age, you can make a commitment today to keep showing up, even when the feelings fade on that big project, because that's what being a pro is all about.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
