- 0:16Speaker 1: putt and practice. If you don't have time for a
- 0:19Speaker 1: full round, book your tea time today. Golf dot Breck
- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Breck dot org. Now that the
- 0:27Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints have their head coach and he is
- 0:30Speaker 1: Kellen Moore hiring his staff, next up is going to
- 0:33Speaker 1: be roster cuts. Saints are some fifty one million dollars
- 0:38Speaker 1: over the salary cap. You all know that number. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: they have work to do. And what's interesting is to me, anyway,
- 0:46Speaker 1: whenever you start to look at all the NFL insiders, right,
- 0:48Speaker 1: all these people who cover the NFL nationally, for the
- 0:50Speaker 1: big networks that are well connected, when all of them
- 0:53Speaker 1: start saying the same things, it's when you know that's
- 0:57Speaker 1: rooted in some reality. Dan Graziano over at ESPN looked
- 1:01Speaker 1: at the cap situation for all thirty two NFL teams
- 1:04Speaker 1: with the Saints. He writes, feels like the Saints are
- 1:06Speaker 1: here every year having a slash and slash just to
- 1:08Speaker 1: get under the cap. Projected fifty million over the cap
- 1:12Speaker 1: or so talks about the restructures. He notes Derek Carr
- 1:16Speaker 1: and how they could save thirty million dollars if he's
- 1:18Speaker 1: a post June first cut. Then also says watch Cameron
- 1:21Speaker 1: Jordan beloved Saints, but turns thirty six in July, one
- 1:24Speaker 1: year left on his contract, carrying a cap number for
- 1:26Speaker 1: roughly twenty million dollars. You could extend him to save
- 1:30Speaker 1: some money, but that probably doesn't make sense. So could
- 1:32Speaker 1: you designate him as a post June first cut and
- 1:35Speaker 1: save eleven million dollars? That's what they could do there
- 1:38Speaker 1: with Cameron Jordan. Then over at NFL dot com. This
- 1:42Speaker 1: is at NFL dot com again, the National Football League's
- 1:47Speaker 1: website NFL dot com, they post this long list of
- 1:50Speaker 1: guys who could be potential cap cuts, guys like Deebo
- 1:54Speaker 1: Samuel from the forty nine ers, Marshaw, and Lattimore with Washington,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I mean, that's one worth keeping an eye on because
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Saints. The Saints got a third round pick for
- 2:06Speaker 1: Latimore and as bad as New Orleans has been in
- 2:09Speaker 1: these types of situations. That feels like one man, that's
- 2:12Speaker 1: highway robbery. You sent a player who was injured at
- 2:16Speaker 1: the time, you traded him to Washington. He was junk
- 2:20Speaker 1: for them this year. And respect to Marshaw Lattimore. He
- 2:22Speaker 1: didn't do anything wrong in New Orleans. He was a
- 2:23Speaker 1: good player for the Saints. He's just clearly on the
- 2:27Speaker 1: back nine of his career and maybe closer to the
- 2:29Speaker 1: clubhouse than the turn and might get cut after playing
- 2:34Speaker 1: less than half a season in Washington and being abused
- 2:39Speaker 1: in the NFC Championship game by AJ Brown. But they
- 2:42Speaker 1: also mentioned Cameron Jordan, so that's another one. So Gradiano
- 2:46Speaker 1: mentioned Cameron Jordan the NFL dot com website there looking
- 2:49Speaker 1: at players that could be cut, have Cam Jordan on
- 2:51Speaker 1: the list. The very next player on the list could
- 2:54Speaker 1: be cut, Derek Carr. I mean, you start to see
- 3:00Speaker 1: these commonalities that are out there. And oh, by the way,
- 3:04Speaker 1: David on Yamada also on the list as a guy
- 3:06Speaker 1: that could be cut. Another former Saint right there. And
- 3:09Speaker 1: it's also worth noting that they do list Taysom Hill
- 3:12Speaker 1: as a player that could very well be cut. In
- 3:15Speaker 1: this period as well. You look at they're very they're
- 3:18Speaker 1: common underlying factors aging expensive players. If you need to
- 3:26Speaker 1: get cheaper and younger, you move on from your aging
- 3:31Speaker 1: expensive players. We had James Hurst on with us and
- 3:34Speaker 1: our number one again, a former Saint who came to
- 3:38Speaker 1: New Orleans in twenty twenty, which was Drew Brees's last
- 3:42Speaker 1: season when they were still very actively trying to win
- 3:46Speaker 1: now with Drew Brees, and I asked him if he's
- 3:49Speaker 1: if internally they were aware of the of the cap situation,
- 3:54Speaker 1: how bad it was. If the players internally were aware
- 3:57Speaker 1: of all this.
- 3:58Speaker 2: You know, not much. A lot of the times in
- 4:00Speaker 2: the locker room, the cap situation was very personal to
- 4:04Speaker 2: each player because the truth of the matter is we're
- 4:07Speaker 2: all competing over the same dollars in that salary cap. So, however,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I do know that that everyone was aware of it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Everyone was aware that it was keeping us from going
- 4:17Speaker 2: out and signing, you know, a big splash free agent signing.
- 4:20Speaker 2: They knew that, and for a while there that was
- 4:22Speaker 2: okay because we felt like we had everyone in the
- 4:25Speaker 2: building at those big time important dispositions to get the
- 4:28Speaker 2: job done. But also, I think you've seen that shift
- 4:31Speaker 2: a little bit. I think maybe the last two years,
- 4:33Speaker 2: maybe three years, you've seen us missing players at those
- 4:37Speaker 2: those hallmark positions that are real game changers.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And it's been four years since you made the playoffs.
- 4:45Speaker 1: And Hurst also and I would highly recommend you go
- 4:48Speaker 1: check out this entire interview. Who is fantastic today? But
- 4:51Speaker 1: I mean, he said, in no uncertain terms, I love
- 4:53Speaker 1: I love when you can get guys who are recently
- 4:56Speaker 1: finished playing, who still have an intimate awareness of the
- 5:00Speaker 1: current roster, the coaching staff, the front office, not just
- 5:05Speaker 1: the team they played for, with the rest of the
- 5:06Speaker 1: league as well, because they're so closely removed from it,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and then they'll give you candor. And that's what Herst
- 5:12Speaker 1: did today when I asked him about is it time
- 5:15Speaker 1: to hit the full reset PLT.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I think it's time with the lack of success in
- 5:18Speaker 2: a weak division in the past three seasons, with a
- 5:22Speaker 2: quarterback who's on a really limiting contract for the team.
- 5:26Speaker 2: We've tried the restructuring, right, We've done it, But I
- 5:28Speaker 2: think it's time you've got a new head coach who
- 5:31Speaker 2: would love to establish himself and make a name for
- 5:33Speaker 2: himself as a successful head coach as an offensive guy.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I'm sure he wants a new quarterback. You know, the
- 5:38Speaker 2: quarterback is the hinge position right now for the Saints.
- 5:40Speaker 2: There's a lot going on. They have great draft capital
- 5:43Speaker 2: this year, and I think we need to utilize that
- 5:45Speaker 2: and understand that this is not an easy situation for
- 5:49Speaker 2: any head coach. Brian Bill Belichick could walk into the
- 5:51Speaker 2: building and not necessarily have a ton of success just
- 5:55Speaker 2: because of the current situation of the team and the
- 5:58Speaker 2: cap structure.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And you got a guy right there and James starts
- 6:00Speaker 1: telling your point blankets time like you got a young coach,
- 6:04Speaker 1: commit to him, hit the reset button and move on.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's tough to do for your veteran players when you
- 6:11Speaker 1: have a limited window to win and you know you've
- 6:13Speaker 1: got only so many not just in the Saints era,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I mean because your career is only so long, and
- 6:19Speaker 1: not everybody's going to be super blessed to be drafted
- 6:22Speaker 1: by the Chiefs or the Eagles in this situation where
- 6:24Speaker 1: you know you're going to a really good team that's
- 6:26Speaker 1: going to compete win. The Saints are nowhere close to
- 6:28Speaker 1: that right now. And the more they carry on with
- 6:32Speaker 1: this charade of pretending like they're a contender. The further
- 6:36Speaker 1: removes you get from actually being one.
