- 2:23Speaker 5: when we started. We'll be out there atill six o'clock tonight.
- 2:25Speaker 5: And again, so many folks like Appalachria Power and Serve
- 2:29Speaker 5: Pro and just so many folks have come out to
- 2:32Speaker 5: help us with this from a corporate standpoint, but it's
- 2:34Speaker 5: all about the listeners. You folks are the greatest in
- 2:38Speaker 5: the world. And as of about thirty minutes or so ago,
- 2:42Speaker 5: we had already collected In roughly ninety minutes, we'd already
- 2:46Speaker 5: collected thirty turkeys out there, folks. So I mean, people
- 2:49Speaker 5: pull up with one, people pull up with a truckload, truckload,
- 2:53Speaker 5: whatever the case may be. Even if you can just
- 2:55Speaker 5: make a small cash donation, that's fine too. So again
- 2:57Speaker 5: we have more in that coming up a little bit
- 2:59Speaker 5: later on. Also Thanksgiving us next week. But some folks
- 3:02Speaker 5: are already thinking about Christmas. The city of South Charleston.
- 3:05Speaker 5: One of those, Sean Zaniga from the City of South Charleston,
- 3:08Speaker 5: is gonna join us to talk a little Christmas in
- 3:10Speaker 5: the Land of the Black Eagles. Plus we'll get to

- 3:21Speaker 5: Let's welcome to the show though our good friend from
- 3:23Speaker 5: Bridge Valley Community Technical College, doctor Casey Sachs. Good morning,
- 3:27Speaker 5: welcome to the show.
- 3:28Speaker 6: Good morning, So great to be with you today, Dave.
- 3:31Speaker 5: So great to hear your voice. Great to have you
- 3:33Speaker 5: with us. You know, sometimes you join us in studio,
- 3:35Speaker 5: sometimes you join us on location. Completely understood, But you
- 3:39Speaker 5: are missing Turkey drop, doctor Sachs.
- 3:41Speaker 6: I know what a bummer I'm but you know I'm
- 3:44Speaker 6: having fun over at Bridge Valley today. So you're also
- 3:47Speaker 6: missing out at the college.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Well, okay, all right, what kind of fun are we
- 3:50Speaker 5: missing over there?
- 3:51Speaker 6: You know? School?
- 3:52Speaker 3: Oh?
- 3:52Speaker 5: Oh, oh, that thing, that thing, that thing that we do. Well,
- 3:59Speaker 5: appreciate you being here. Do want to talk about you.
- 4:02Speaker 5: You just got back from DC?
- 4:03Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 4:04Speaker 7: I did.
- 4:05Speaker 6: I came home from DC last night. It's so good
- 4:07Speaker 6: to be home.
- 4:08Speaker 3: All right.
- 4:08Speaker 5: What were you doing in DC?
- 4:10Speaker 8: So?
- 4:10Speaker 6: I was invited to something that was a round table
- 4:13Speaker 6: for education leaders to talk about a project that the
- 4:17Speaker 6: White House has put out that's called a Compact for Education.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Okay, and what is that?
- 4:22Speaker 6: So the White House has asked higher education for several things,
- 4:27Speaker 6: to be more affordable and transparent, to not discriminate, to
- 4:31Speaker 6: support veterans, things that I think most people would generally
- 4:34Speaker 6: agree with. But they've asked the higher education community for feedback.
- 4:38Speaker 6: And I was the first community college president to be
- 4:42Speaker 6: invited across the whole country. So there were eight of
- 4:45Speaker 6: us yesterday and we sat with the Secretary of Education
- 4:48Speaker 6: and talked about what we're doing at our schools. That's
- 4:51Speaker 6: wonderful and she'll take that back as feedback and revise
- 4:54Speaker 6: the compact accordingly.
- 4:55Speaker 5: What did you hear from the other colleges, Because you know,
- 4:58Speaker 5: there's nothing like a little networking doctors ACKs you well
- 5:00Speaker 5: now and learning one learning from each other. What did
- 5:04Speaker 5: you pick up from the other college presidents or college officials?
- 5:07Speaker 6: Two things that I thought were really cool. Florida has
- 5:10Speaker 6: this website called my Florida Futures, and there were really
- 5:13Speaker 6: trying hard to be transparent about what are the jobs
- 5:17Speaker 6: that tie back to which majors so, and it's well visited.
- 5:21Speaker 6: Lots of students use it to make college going decisions.
- 5:24Speaker 6: So if you're thinking, gosh, I want to be a
- 5:26Speaker 6: machinist at Toyota, recognizing that the way you get there
- 5:29Speaker 6: is going through bridge valleys, Advanced Manufacturing Technician program is
- 5:33Speaker 6: really important and it's something that Florida has been very
- 5:37Speaker 6: transparent about. So I thought that was meat and something
- 5:39Speaker 6: that we might want to copy. And I also thought
- 5:42Speaker 6: Texas State Technical College had some really interesting tuition models.
- 5:46Speaker 6: They actually do variable tuition by program, So if you're
- 5:50Speaker 6: going into a program like nursing, the tuition is higher
- 5:53Speaker 6: than if you're going into a program like social work
- 5:56Speaker 6: because it's more expensive to offer a nursing program, and
- 6:00Speaker 6: you also make better wages as a nurse than you
- 6:02Speaker 6: do as a social worker. But we need both of
- 6:04Speaker 6: those programs to fill the jobs that exist.
- 6:06Speaker 5: You're and one other present right about that, And again
- 6:09Speaker 5: I guess I hadn't thought about it when you first
- 6:11Speaker 5: began that. I was thinking, well, why is one more
- 6:13Speaker 5: expensive than the other. But there's more stuff involved, I guess.
- 6:16Speaker 5: I mean not the social works not important, do not
- 6:18Speaker 5: get me wrong, especially in West Virginia, and we know
- 6:20Speaker 5: about the crisis of a lack of social workers we have.
- 6:22Speaker 5: But you got to have more hands on stuff with nursing.
- 6:27Speaker 6: That's right. I mean, we have a whole hot we
- 6:28Speaker 6: have a three million dollar hospital wing that goes along
- 6:31Speaker 6: with the nursing program, and it's still a lot of
- 6:32Speaker 6: hands on learning. So it's just a very different program delivery.
- 6:37Speaker 5: You mentioned Toyota. The announcement was made earlier this week
- 6:41Speaker 5: by the officials of Toyota that they're going to be
- 6:43Speaker 5: doing a nationwide expansion of many many things, and of
- 6:46Speaker 5: course the big plan over in Buffalo and Putnam County
- 6:49Speaker 5: is going to be a big recipient of that. They're
- 6:51Speaker 5: going to be hiring more people to come in and
- 6:54Speaker 5: it's a multimillion dollar expansion that they're doing there. Talk
- 6:57Speaker 5: about Bridge Valley's involvement with.
- 7:01Speaker 6: So we hold a program that's called FAME here at
- 7:03Speaker 6: Bridge Valley. It's the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education. Toyota
- 7:08Speaker 6: and lots of other manufacturers in the area. Service Wires
- 7:12Speaker 6: also doing a gigantic expansion right now. They all need talent.
- 7:16Speaker 6: They're all trying to hire people who have a similar
- 7:19Speaker 6: skill set. So the great thing about the FAME program
- 7:22Speaker 6: and that federation is that they've collectively said, we want
- 7:25Speaker 6: to hire people together and not compete against each other
- 7:28Speaker 6: to try and steal workers. So they've all agreed to
- 7:31Speaker 6: the same kind of training. And what that means for
- 7:33Speaker 6: a learner is you go through one training program and
- 7:36Speaker 6: you would be qualified for jobs at any one of
- 7:38Speaker 6: the manufacturing partners.
- 7:39Speaker 5: I mean, and you talked about this before. Again, we're
- 7:41Speaker 5: talking with doctor Casey Sacks, a Bridge Valley Community of
- 7:43Speaker 5: Technical College, and you talked.
- 7:44Speaker 3: About this before.
- 7:45Speaker 5: The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
- 7:47Speaker 5: has with Toyota and people goes. I mean, and you
- 7:50Speaker 5: talked about this before. Again, we're talking with doctor Casey Sacks,
- 7:52Speaker 5: a Bridge Valley Community of Technical College, and you talked.
- 7:55Speaker 3: About this before.
- 7:55Speaker 5: The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
- 7:58Speaker 5: has with Toyota and people goes to these programs. I
- 8:00Speaker 5: mean Toyota and other manufacturers too, not just Toyota, You're
- 8:03Speaker 5: chomping at the bit to get these students of all
- 8:07Speaker 5: ages that have gone to Bridge Valley through these technical
- 8:09Speaker 5: program They want the people and they want to put
- 8:11Speaker 5: them to work.
- 8:12Speaker 6: It's right any really, when I talk to my friends
- 8:14Speaker 6: who have kids who are thinking about college, or when
- 8:17Speaker 6: I talk to adults who are thinking about career switching,
- 8:20Speaker 6: if you have any technical inclination at all, I strongly
- 8:24Speaker 6: suggest going through the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. It's the
- 8:28Speaker 6: program that leads to the best entry level wages of
- 8:30Speaker 6: anything that we offer at the college. And they're really
- 8:33Speaker 6: great jobs, and the manufacturers are largely wonderful employers in
- 8:38Speaker 6: the region. So it's I can't say enough nice things
- 8:40Speaker 6: about them.
- 8:41Speaker 5: You've done. So, you guys have been doing something called
- 8:43Speaker 5: mini grants.
- 8:44Speaker 3: What's that?
- 8:45Speaker 6: So one of the things we talked the last couple
- 8:47Speaker 6: of times you and I saw each other, we talked
- 8:49Speaker 6: about students who are using snap and just how much
- 8:53Speaker 6: need there is in the community, and that that's true
- 8:56Speaker 6: with students too. So we've started. We've had a number
- 8:59Speaker 6: of donors give us just small amounts of money, but
- 9:02Speaker 6: what that it can be game changing for students. So
- 9:05Speaker 6: we've had a number of students apply to our foundation
- 9:07Speaker 6: to say they need car repairs to be able to
- 9:10Speaker 6: stay in school, or could we just help them with
- 9:12Speaker 6: gas or food or utilities. And so we've started doing
- 9:15Speaker 6: mini grants for students as part of the Thanksgiving season
- 9:19Speaker 6: to just help them be able to stay in school.
- 9:21Speaker 6: We want them to get through the semester and be
- 9:23Speaker 6: able to start a new semester and be okay and
- 9:27Speaker 6: have their families be okay. So so far we've given
- 9:29Speaker 6: forty out to students and their average is about one
- 9:32Speaker 6: hundred and fifty dollars. But when you talk to students
- 9:35Speaker 6: who have received them, it just makes such a huge difference.
- 9:38Speaker 6: If you've had a flat tire and you can't afford
- 9:40Speaker 6: to pay for it, it doesn't matter if it's one
- 9:42Speaker 6: hundred dollars or a million dollars if you don't have
- 9:45Speaker 6: the money.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Yeah, and sometimes when we think about doctor Sachs about
- 9:48Speaker 5: helping students, we think about, you know, the materials they
- 9:52Speaker 5: need in the classroom, and that's a big part of it.
- 9:53Speaker 5: But I mean, it's really a shame for somebody that's
- 9:56Speaker 5: wanting to better themselves, whether they're a young person or
- 9:58Speaker 5: older person or whatever. But they can't make it to
- 10:00Speaker 5: class for and so many things are available online. We
- 10:02Speaker 5: get that, but sometimes you do need that hands on
- 10:05Speaker 5: because when you talk about manufacturing and nursing, I mean
- 10:07Speaker 5: only so much of it you can do online. You've
- 10:09Speaker 5: got to have hands on. And it's a shame because
- 10:13Speaker 5: we hear it all the time. Well, they couldn't make it.
- 10:14Speaker 5: They had to drop out because they didn't have reliable transportation,
- 10:18Speaker 5: or because they couldn't afford their power bill, they couldn't
- 10:21Speaker 5: afford their internet bill, or things of that nature. So
- 10:24Speaker 5: it's a great program. You got Spring registration coming up
- 10:29Speaker 5: right We.
- 10:29Speaker 6: Do if you or someone in your family is thinking
- 10:32Speaker 6: about making a change, or you're really looking to get
- 10:35Speaker 6: some new training or a new job. Spring registration is
- 10:40Speaker 6: going on right now, and I would really encourage you
- 10:42Speaker 6: to sign up. Our classes start January twelfth, so it's
- 10:46Speaker 6: perfect timing if you're thinking about having your life be different.
- 10:49Speaker 5: All right, It's always a pleasure to talk to you,
- 10:51Speaker 5: doctor Casey Sachs, a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
- 10:53Speaker 5: I but don't talk to you. Have yourself a great Thanksgiving,
- 10:56Speaker 5: keep doing good stuff out there.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Thank you, Dave, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy thanks Giving to
- 11:00Speaker 6: everybody listening.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Indeed it is nine to eighteen. Coming up a little
- 11:04Speaker 5: bit later on to the show again. Our third annual

- 16:01Speaker 5: Third Annual Turkey Drop going on on our parking lot
- 16:03Speaker 5: eleven eleven Virginia Street East here and Charleston. We started
- 16:06Speaker 5: at seven this morning, going till six o'clock tonight. Next
- 16:09Speaker 5: segments will be joined by whomever is available to come
- 16:11Speaker 5: in here. I know Rob Reel, this is kind of
- 16:13Speaker 5: his baby and yes, somebody asked me earlier does he
- 16:17Speaker 5: have the turkey suit. Yes, he has the full turkey suit.
- 16:19Speaker 5: I don't know if he's put the full Turkey suit
- 16:21Speaker 5: on yet. He's going to be on with us on
- 16:24Speaker 5: Metro News midday today and so state wide when we
- 16:28Speaker 5: flip the switch and go to Metro News TV, people
- 16:32Speaker 5: are going to be able to see Rob Reel in
- 16:34Speaker 5: his Turkey suit. We'll have pictures, of course posted. Actually
- 16:37Speaker 5: I think some are already posted on our various station website.
- 16:39Speaker 5: So that's coming up a little bit, a little bit
- 16:42Speaker 5: later on the show. I want to talk some Christmas
- 16:45Speaker 5: right now. I know Thanksgiving is coming up, but we
- 16:47Speaker 5: want to talk a little Christmas. Shan's on again from
- 16:48Speaker 5: the City of salth Charleston joins us right now. Sean,
- 16:51Speaker 5: good morning and welcome to the show.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Good morning, thank you for having me today, and happy
- 16:54Speaker 3: turkey drop. Yeah. Yeah, that's all us, what you guys
- 16:56Speaker 3: are doing out here.
- 16:57Speaker 5: You and I were talking about that off the air.
- 16:58Speaker 5: I mean, we don't do that's not why we do
- 17:00Speaker 5: it but for accolades. But you know somebody, you know
- 17:03Speaker 5: when you come in and you talked about how awesome
- 17:05Speaker 5: it was that. But you know, here's the thing, Sean,
- 17:08Speaker 5: it's just our idea. You know, we don't. All we
- 17:11Speaker 5: do is we just happened to have a nice circular
- 17:13Speaker 5: It's not circular. Rob will collect me or he'll correct
- 17:15Speaker 5: me on that we have a nice parking lot. Okay,
- 17:18Speaker 5: we provide that, we provide the air. It's our listeners
- 17:21Speaker 5: to do it. It's not us. I mean, we don't
- 17:22Speaker 5: provide anything but the space and the air and the time.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Our listeners are the people that come through.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 10: And I just think anytime that you know, the community
- 17:30Speaker 10: that can come together and kind of help others out,
- 17:32Speaker 10: I just think it's a great thing and it just
- 17:33Speaker 10: shows what we are about in this state.
- 17:36Speaker 5: One percent. I told the story to you off the
- 17:38Speaker 5: air and listeners have heard me tell. Two of the
- 17:40Speaker 5: things that really stuck out to me was in the past,
- 17:45Speaker 5: we had a lady that pulled up and she had
- 17:46Speaker 5: a five dollar bill and she said, I wish I
- 17:49Speaker 5: could do more, but this is all I have and
- 17:52Speaker 5: she handed us a five dollar bill. I mean, how
- 17:55Speaker 5: cool is that? And then did guys up in the
- 17:58Speaker 5: Eastern Panhandle that drove from the Martinsburg area last year
- 18:03Speaker 5: with a truckload of apples because they heard because Metro
- 18:06Speaker 5: News covered it too, and of course we have, you know,
- 18:08Speaker 5: a cluster of stations at Martinsburg. They said, we heard
- 18:11Speaker 5: you guys talking about it on the network and they
- 18:14Speaker 5: drove from Martinsburg with a box truck full of apples.
- 18:18Speaker 5: It just said, here you go. And then they said, guys,
- 18:21Speaker 5: you get to unload the apples. And apple apples are
- 18:24Speaker 5: heavy shoan. Yeah, when they're in crates, you're you're a
- 18:27Speaker 5: big muscular guy. We're a little little guy with a
- 18:29Speaker 5: pot belly. Like man. It's kind of kind of difficult.
- 18:32Speaker 5: But let's talk Christmas in South Charleston. I mean, I
- 18:35Speaker 5: know we have several different activities going on small business
- 18:37Speaker 5: Saturday Christmas parade, Christmas tree lightings. Where do you want
- 18:40Speaker 5: to start?
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yes, So we have a lot coming up.
- 18:42Speaker 10: So starting November twenty ninths one business Saturday, we actually
- 18:46Speaker 10: have our first annual Christmas Market at the South Charsan
- 18:49Speaker 10: Farmers Market.
- 18:50Speaker 3: We'll have live.
- 18:50Speaker 10: Christmas trees, holiday decors, maple sir farm, fresh meats, eggs,
- 18:57Speaker 10: hot hot chocolate, cookies for the kids. And Santa will
- 19:01Speaker 10: be visiting every weekend as well.
- 19:03Speaker 5: And that's all is a farmer's market. Yeah, what's your
- 19:05Speaker 5: hours on that?
- 19:05Speaker 3: When do you do there?
- 19:06Speaker 10: So for the Christmas market will be Monday through Saturday
- 19:09Speaker 10: nine am to six pm and then Sunday twelve pm
- 19:12Speaker 10: to four pm.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Okay, And what on the did you said Black Friday
- 19:16Speaker 5: or Small Business Saurday? Missus started? What time we start
- 19:18Speaker 5: that day? Nine am, the same time, same time? What
- 19:21Speaker 5: else is going to be out there for? I mean,
- 19:22Speaker 5: because I mean I'm blown away, Sean, every time that
- 19:26Speaker 5: my wife and I are are frequent visitors to the
- 19:28Speaker 5: farmers market, I'm blown away every time I go out
- 19:30Speaker 5: there about all the stuff you have? What do you
- 19:31Speaker 5: get special for Christmas?
- 19:33Speaker 10: So the biggest thing is a Christmas trees. Grit's Farm
- 19:36Speaker 10: will be supplying those issuears. Just shout out to Brad
- 19:39Speaker 10: Grit with Grit's Farm and then every you know, every
- 19:43Speaker 10: week and we'll have Santa Claus there to visit with
- 19:45Speaker 10: the kids, and the Grinch is going to make some
- 19:47Speaker 10: visits as well. And we got some pretty good events
- 19:51Speaker 10: scheduled there as well for the Christmas Market, and.
- 19:54Speaker 5: We'll have to have you on as you know, throughout
- 19:56Speaker 5: the season because these things are always changing and you're
- 19:58Speaker 5: adding things, taking things a way or whatever. And you know,
- 20:01Speaker 5: how long has the Farmer's Market been open now? So
- 20:03Speaker 5: trust only since May weekend? Yeah, Mother's Day weekend. Overall,
- 20:07Speaker 5: how's the How's that?
- 20:09Speaker 10: I have to get a shout out to the community
- 20:11Speaker 10: for really for really showing their support. I mean, it's
- 20:14Speaker 10: just been it's just been great. I mean, it's gone
- 20:16Speaker 10: very well this year for our first year.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I mean, and it's it's really nice if you've never been,
- 20:21Speaker 5: take an opportunity to stop by because you know, you
- 20:24Speaker 5: got plenty plenty of parking there and and you it's
- 20:28Speaker 5: it's covered and it's and it is it's a you know,
- 20:32Speaker 5: kind of a cliche to say there's a little bit
- 20:33Speaker 5: of everything and something for everybody. Sean, but there literally
- 20:36Speaker 5: is a little bit of everything's under.
- 20:37Speaker 3: It really is.
- 20:38Speaker 10: I mean for our first year, I mean we've had
- 20:40Speaker 10: just just about a little bit of everything there that
- 20:43Speaker 10: most farmers' markets have, and and even more. And you know,
- 20:47Speaker 10: I think next year that you know, it's really going
- 20:50Speaker 10: to grow and more.
- 20:51Speaker 5: That a text here that says the farmers market is
- 20:53Speaker 5: that rain or shine? Yes, okay, because you know a
- 20:57Speaker 5: lot of it's covered, you know, so, I mean the
- 20:58Speaker 5: majority of it is, so yeah, it is. It is
- 21:00Speaker 5: rain or shine. All right. So let's talk about small
- 21:03Speaker 5: business Saturday. You know, that's something that I feel very
- 21:07Speaker 5: very passionate about, and we try to promote small businesses
- 21:10Speaker 5: as best we can. And look, we're not hating on
- 21:12Speaker 5: large businesses, but these large businesses employee a lot of
- 21:14Speaker 5: West Virginians. We get that. But these mom and pop
- 21:16Speaker 5: shops are the ones that are more likely to make
- 21:19Speaker 5: donations when you come around and you say, hey, can
- 21:21Speaker 5: we have something for our church or a little league
- 21:23Speaker 5: or whatever, They're more likely to do that. And South
- 21:26Speaker 5: Charleston has got a just an incredible selection of small businesses.
- 21:31Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean you know, in South Ross's are such
- 21:33Speaker 10: a divers diverse variety of eateries and shops and you know,
- 21:37Speaker 10: things you won't find online. Yeah, so you know anytime
- 21:41Speaker 10: you can shop local and kind of kind of like
- 21:43Speaker 10: I want to what I what I like to say is,
- 21:46Speaker 10: you know, small businesses that they're thriving than the communities thriving.
- 21:49Speaker 10: So I mean, you know, those tax dollars are staying
- 21:52Speaker 10: in the cities, you know, for the city's to be
- 21:53Speaker 10: able to make public and perment projects and to go
- 21:56Speaker 10: towards the city services. Because you know, South Rawston picks
- 21:59Speaker 10: up twice a week.
- 22:02Speaker 5: I don't know if anyone around here that does that.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:05Speaker 5: That's what I've always heard from my friends that live
- 22:07Speaker 5: in South Charleston. They're all about it because they say,
- 22:09Speaker 5: you know, South Charleston as far as services go, I
- 22:12Speaker 5: mean just just can't be beaten. You guys just do
- 22:14Speaker 5: it do a lot there. But that's because of the
- 22:17Speaker 5: tax base that you have from these small businesses. And again,
- 22:20Speaker 5: whether you're looking for books, you're looking for music, you're
- 22:24Speaker 5: looking for as you said, the eateries, South Charleston's got
- 22:26Speaker 5: a lot of.
- 22:26Speaker 10: That, yes, Yeah, And then you know, shout out to
- 22:29Speaker 10: the mayor too, because you know his his his biggest
- 22:32Speaker 10: thing when he first came in was to make South
- 22:35Speaker 10: Troston a business friendly place to come to. And you
- 22:38Speaker 10: know he's done so many things like the he you know,
- 22:41Speaker 10: he created the graduated tax system that they have in place,
- 22:46Speaker 10: which allows new small businesses to come in and sort
- 22:49Speaker 10: of lay that founda dation and you know, not had
- 22:51Speaker 10: that burden to pay one hundred percent of taxes right
- 22:54Speaker 10: at the gate, you know, and that allows for growth
- 22:56Speaker 10: early on and the longevity.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, let's talk Christmas parades and lighting of
- 23:02Speaker 5: trees and all that other stuff for Christmas.
- 23:04Speaker 10: Yes, we have our Christmas tree light. The simmer fifth
- 23:06Speaker 10: activities will start at five point thirty. You can visit
- 23:08Speaker 10: with Sanna, get free cookies, hot cocoa, and then new
- 23:12Speaker 10: this year, we're going to do a lighted golf cart
- 23:15Speaker 10: caravan ride down D Street and all those proceeds go
- 23:19Speaker 10: to the Mattox Potter Foundation. So you can register a
- 23:23Speaker 10: golf cart through the CVB for twenty dollars or you
- 23:26Speaker 10: can sponsor one through through our golf course for fifty
- 23:30Speaker 10: dollars to come down on d street and ride through
- 23:34Speaker 10: the caravan.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Right, and we spent a lot of time talking with
- 23:36Speaker 5: the family of Maddox Potter, you know mad Dog, you know,
- 23:39Speaker 5: just a just a great young man that was taken
- 23:42Speaker 5: away far too soon in his family. Has just gone
- 23:44Speaker 5: above and beyond to try to try to help other
- 23:47Speaker 5: families in that same situation. Yes, yeah, And so the
- 23:49Speaker 5: lighting of the Christmas tree? What time again?
- 23:51Speaker 3: The lighting?
- 23:52Speaker 6: It?
- 23:52Speaker 3: So the drone show will the drone show will start
- 23:54Speaker 3: at six thirty.
- 23:55Speaker 5: Oh you got to have the drone show?
- 23:56Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, and then the tree lighting will start up
- 23:59Speaker 10: price being around six forty five pm right after the
- 24:01Speaker 10: drug show.
- 24:01Speaker 5: All right. We had a textare so will you be
- 24:03Speaker 5: bringing back the tradition of Santa arriving by helicopter?
- 24:06Speaker 3: Not this year, but that may be some planes in
- 24:08Speaker 3: the future.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Okay, all right, I mean at one point, these drone
- 24:12Speaker 5: shows just keep more and more popular and you're gonna
- 24:14Speaker 5: probably see Santa in the sky at one point. Maybe
- 24:16Speaker 5: Santa will fly drum yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all good.
- 24:19Speaker 5: So we're talking to shan Z again from the City
- 24:21Speaker 5: of South Charles about their Christmas stuffs. But Dave Alan
- 24:24Speaker 5: show on five eighty live Rightchet a part by Hustan's Pizza.
- 24:26Speaker 5: This month get a large eighteen inch Pemperoni pizza and
- 24:28Speaker 5: an eight inch chocolate chip cookie twenty three ninety nine.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Find your nearest Hustan's Pizza for delivery Dina or pickup
- 24:33Speaker 5: at Huston's Pizza dot com. Let's talk about the Christmas pread.
- 24:36Speaker 10: Yeah, so that's going to be December sixth at noon
- 24:39Speaker 10: on D Street. So bring the whole family out and
- 24:43Speaker 10: come and celebrate the holidays with us.
- 24:45Speaker 5: That is always big and all of our stations are
- 24:47Speaker 5: you know, always involved in that. And you it amazes me.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I'm usually either with our sister Station's ninety eight seven
- 24:54Speaker 5: a month and or I'm driving, you know, with whs here.
- 24:57Speaker 5: It always amazes me the amount of people that you
- 25:00Speaker 5: get in a small area. And you got to as
- 25:03Speaker 5: somebody driving the vehicles as all of us are got
- 25:06Speaker 5: to be really really careful too.
- 25:08Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, you know, safety is a big part
- 25:11Speaker 10: of it. We do have some bayer case that are
- 25:13Speaker 10: up that you know, prevents people from coming out in
- 25:15Speaker 10: the road and stuff. But it's it's our biggest event
- 25:19Speaker 10: end of the year. So again, bring the whole family. Out,
- 25:23Speaker 10: come out and celebrate with us.
- 25:24Speaker 5: And uh, I know we're talking about small businesses primarily,
- 25:27Speaker 5: but of course I would be remiss. And last time
- 25:29Speaker 5: we had Mayor Mullins on he talked about a little
- 25:31Speaker 5: bit too. And that's the that's the the growth that's
- 25:33Speaker 5: going on with the mall project out there. What can
- 25:35Speaker 5: you tell us about that?
- 25:36Speaker 10: Yeah, so kind of what you see now. You know,
- 25:38Speaker 10: if you drive by now, you got the Kroaga Marketplace.
- 25:40Speaker 10: They got the building up and they actually moved their
- 25:43Speaker 10: start of their opening date.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Up by a month.
- 25:46Speaker 10: Okay, and when that fast now, it's going to be
- 25:49Speaker 10: towards the end of next May.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Next May, so open up. Yeah, I mean they have
- 25:53Speaker 5: made the last time I drove through there, I thought
- 25:54Speaker 5: about that, I said, Sean, they have made amazing progress
- 25:57Speaker 5: on that.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it's crazy how fast they've got it up.
- 25:59Speaker 10: And then you also see there's some construction going on
- 26:02Speaker 10: now as well with seven other buildings I'm sorry, three
- 26:06Speaker 10: other buildings that will house house three different businesses.
- 26:09Speaker 5: All right, and again we had an announcement earlier this
- 26:11Speaker 5: week about some high class chicken coming out there too,
- 26:14Speaker 5: so we're all excited about that as well.
- 26:16Speaker 3: We'll have games.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never had it, but I hear they called
- 26:19Speaker 5: it what the article in the paper I think called
- 26:21Speaker 5: it the Filet Mignon of chickens. Yeah, so we're looking.
- 26:24Speaker 3: That's what they call it. Yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 10: I think there's only one in the state right now.
- 26:26Speaker 10: It's up in Morgantown, Okay, all right, so we'll be
- 26:28Speaker 10: looking forward to that.
- 26:29Speaker 5: All right. So again let's kind of recap here before
- 26:31Speaker 5: we let you go. We've hit a lot of information
- 26:33Speaker 5: here about Christmas and South Charleston, and we'll have you
- 26:35Speaker 5: in the mayor on you know, a couple of times
- 26:36Speaker 5: between now and then, but hit the important dates again
- 26:39Speaker 5: in times just like it did.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 10: So the Christmas Market will start on the twenty ninth
- 26:44Speaker 10: and run through the twenty first. The tree lighting it's
- 26:47Speaker 10: the Sember fifth. Activities start at five point thirty. The
- 26:51Speaker 10: Christmas Parade it's the Sember six at twelve pm down
- 26:54Speaker 10: on D Street.
- 26:55Speaker 5: All right. And information available on social media.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Charsting dot com website, facebook page.
- 27:00Speaker 5: All right, Sean Zonia, it's always pleasure to have you here.
- 27:03Speaker 5: Have a great great thanksgiving you two hey, and remember
- 27:06Speaker 5: if you on your way out, if you hang out
- 27:07Speaker 5: out here, they're probably going to put you to work
- 27:09Speaker 5: out there, so that's okay, So all right, well good,
- 27:12Speaker 5: just tell them just I love to help. Just say, look,
- 27:13Speaker 5: I couldn't. I couldn't get out of there.

- 29:40Speaker 7: There are no gimmicks or games at Walker, just honest,
- 29:43Speaker 7: fair deals, and the process at Walker is remarkably simple.
- 29:47Speaker 3: They help you find a vehicle that you love and
- 29:50Speaker 3: a deal that makes you smile.
- 29:51Speaker 7: And don't forget, Walker is still buying cars too now
- 29:54Speaker 7: All makes and models are welcome, and they'll give you
- 29:57Speaker 7: top dollar for it, even if you plan to buy somewhere.
- 30:00Speaker 3: But why would you.
- 30:01Speaker 7: You know, it's good to know that in a world
- 30:03Speaker 7: full of constant change, there are some things that remain consistent,
- 30:06Speaker 7: and that some car dealers still believe in treating you
- 30:09Speaker 7: like a friend with a smile and a HANDSHAKEE head
- 30:12Speaker 7: to Walker Chevrolet and Nitro in the shadow of the
- 30:15Speaker 7: Interstate Bridge, just off the Nitro exit of I sixty four.
- 30:19Speaker 7: Walker Chevrolet making friends, one deal at a time, no clue.

- 30:59Speaker 3: If it was Uneasy Rider, you were thrown out?
- 31:02Speaker 5: Can you can you guess who put that? I pick
- 31:04Speaker 5: out the own the bumper music for my show. Who
- 31:06Speaker 5: else is gonna do? Charlie Daniels before the Devil went
- 31:08Speaker 5: down to Georgia. Right, It's but I still miss the
- 31:12Speaker 5: wrestling stuff though it's still in there. It'll rotate from
- 31:15Speaker 5: time to time. I've got so you though I've got
- 31:17Speaker 5: the the old World Championship Wrestling theme on rotation. I
- 31:21Speaker 5: think I've got that, uh and I have I have
- 31:25Speaker 5: got Stark Stark Stark.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Hey.

- 31:43Speaker 5: I felt for the have a seat, Jenny, I fell
- 31:46Speaker 5: for that three times. I'm not falling forward again. All right,

- 32:19Speaker 5: Every family deserves a happy holiday meal, and we've already
- 32:22Speaker 5: had folks making that happen. If we're not over sixty
- 32:25Speaker 5: on turkeys already, I mean we just started at seven.
- 32:28Speaker 5: That's that's pretty good. Jenny Murray, that's pretty good stuff.
- 32:31Speaker 13: That is good stuff.
- 32:32Speaker 11: We did have a lady send us a text to
- 32:35Speaker 11: say I just dropped off two birds for you, two turkeys.
- 32:39Speaker 1: There you go.
- 32:41Speaker 5: See what she did there? Yeah, I know I like it.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Big shout out to surf Pro.
- 32:45Speaker 5: They brought us twenty twenty when Tim showed up this morning,
- 32:49Speaker 5: and lots of folding money so far this morning.
- 32:52Speaker 3: It doesn't get any better because now Steve Animal's coming in.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Jason, let's talk.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Let's talk about from your perspective house.
- 33:00Speaker 14: This has been an amazing morning. Like like Rob was saying,
- 33:04Speaker 14: we've had car after car come around the loop either
- 33:07Speaker 14: give us some green handshake yeah, or drop off undshake
- 33:12Speaker 14: yeah and frozen.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 14: We've been getting the bird a lot this morning.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Right now.
- 33:19Speaker 5: Big shout out to our friends at Chick fil A,
- 33:22Speaker 5: Tom Menturn, Chris. We had them on the studio yesterday.
- 33:25Speaker 5: There they're not only feeding us, which we appreciate, but
- 33:28Speaker 5: they're also we We are giving away some free certificate
- 33:32Speaker 5: Swath supplies last to people that donate turkeys. Rob talking
- 33:34Speaker 5: about that. Every time you come through, we will hand
- 33:37Speaker 5: you a little card for some free Chick fil A.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Tom has always been a great partner with us, doing
- 33:41Speaker 5: lots of things like on ninety six to one k
- 33:43Speaker 5: WUS we do our free lunch Friday Hero Edition where
- 33:46Speaker 5: we get to honor folks and they are always Tom
- 33:49Speaker 5: and Tim and Felicia and Kayla and catering. They's all
- 33:53Speaker 5: first to jump on board. Hey we got a drop
- 33:55Speaker 5: event coming. Oh yeah, we're ready to go. We're ready
- 33:58Speaker 5: to feed you. So Chick fil A always great community partners.
- 34:01Speaker 5: Indeed indeed one hundred percent. Steve Animal ninety eight seven
- 34:03Speaker 5: a mountain wild, wonderful class and Crockets here. How you doing,
- 34:06Speaker 5: I'm good. I'm good.
- 34:07Speaker 15: We've had some, like you said, some great green cash donations.
- 34:10Speaker 15: My friend Jean and Rick making sure they hunted me
- 34:14Speaker 15: down last night, like bring this to the Union mission
- 34:17Speaker 15: and where and where were you last night's team? I
- 34:19Speaker 15: was over at Chuckers.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Believe I'll be darn Guy's blue waters, wet animals at shuckers, shockers,
- 34:25Speaker 5: twist my arms. Animal is an animal is a very
- 34:28Speaker 5: renowned mu magician. People don't know this. He can go
- 34:30Speaker 5: into any town in America and turn into a bar.
- 34:33Speaker 5: I have also found that he can make women disappear.
- 34:41Speaker 11: Like mine.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Seems well, we.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Have fun, but again the bottom line is here, we're
- 34:45Speaker 5: trying to feed people.
- 34:46Speaker 15: That's what It's been a great day so far, going
- 34:48Speaker 15: till six o'clock tonight, eleven eleven Virginia Street.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Here, it is going to be a good day. The
- 34:53Speaker 3: idea that we can goof around with our friends on
- 34:54Speaker 3: a parking lot is.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Is it easier than Yeah? On kind of a raw
- 34:59Speaker 5: day like this, you don't even have to get out
- 35:01Speaker 5: of your nice warm vehicle, so especially you got like
- 35:03Speaker 5: the heated seats and the heated steering wheel.
- 35:05Speaker 3: You just roll up and say it's in the backfellers,
- 35:07Speaker 3: and we will grab it.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Had somebody roll up with it was five turkeys in
- 35:11Speaker 5: the back hat just a little bit ago, so I
- 35:13Speaker 5: think we're over sixty.
- 35:16Speaker 14: The one lady that pulled in and said, hey, I've
- 35:18Speaker 14: got a couple of turkeys in the back, and we
- 35:19Speaker 14: opened the hatch and there was thirteen turkeys.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome. So we did one twenty seven in turkeys.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Last year, we did five thousand in financial contributions. We
- 35:29Speaker 5: would love to eclipse that this year. It's been a
- 35:31Speaker 5: rough year for a lot of folks and we're not
- 35:34Speaker 5: going to go down that shut down road and snap again.
- 35:36Speaker 3: But it's been extra tough this year.
- 35:38Speaker 5: So I would love to eclipse those numbers if we could. Jenny,
- 35:41Speaker 5: let me bring you back in here for just a moment.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Please please, We already did that, jo We already did
- 35:47Speaker 5: that joke. Please tell me that they have other females
- 35:49Speaker 5: out there with you, and you're not out there with
- 35:50Speaker 5: a bunch of ruffians. I know they're here somewhere, but
- 35:53Speaker 5: they're probably they probably keeping us in line. Who do
- 35:55Speaker 5: you think stept Us out just say so far. I
- 35:57Speaker 5: know Stephanie, our producer of Metro News Midday, was out there,
- 35:59Speaker 5: and I think Bobby's I.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Was up there, bub bub bub bub and June.
- 36:03Speaker 5: I hope we have some more people out there. But okay,
- 36:05Speaker 5: I'll go wrangle up the ladies. No, but but but
- 36:09Speaker 5: I mean this is kind of this is kind of
- 36:11Speaker 5: what we do around here.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Yeah, we do.
- 36:13Speaker 11: And it's uh, you know, we we absolutely I mean,
- 36:16Speaker 11: we're out there, but it's the people that come by.
- 36:20Speaker 5: All we are doing is really is providing the time
- 36:22Speaker 5: and the space. It's our listeners that are doing all
- 36:24Speaker 5: the work. We're the pie pipers. Yeah, that's who we are.
- 36:27Speaker 11: And what an easy way to help your neighbors through
- 36:31Speaker 11: you know, a great partner that we have and you
- 36:34Speaker 11: guys really do all the heavy lifting for us as
- 36:36Speaker 11: far as the distribution. But you know, we we know
- 36:39Speaker 11: people are out there and they're having a tough time
- 36:42Speaker 11: and this is just a real simple way to help
- 36:45Speaker 11: them have a decent Thanksgiving.
- 36:47Speaker 5: And how does a distribution go? Jason Jason Wore from
- 36:50Speaker 5: Union Mission. How does that?
- 36:50Speaker 3: How does how does the actual distribution go? He flies
- 36:53Speaker 3: a helicopter over and no, we just drop it.
- 36:56Speaker 14: Yeah, three turkeys Saturday morning. Each family will receive two
- 37:02Speaker 14: boxes of stuffing, two boxes of mac and cheese, twelve
- 37:04Speaker 14: cans and drinks, and a dessert with a fifteen sixteen
- 37:07Speaker 14: pound turkey.
- 37:08Speaker 5: Now, how do they get in the running?
- 37:10Speaker 3: From me?
- 37:10Speaker 14: In the last month and a half, we've been doing
- 37:12Speaker 14: sign ups.
- 37:13Speaker 5: Okay, Thanksgiving distribution Okay, and that's one of the things
- 37:17Speaker 5: about that is is that always and whenever we do this,
- 37:20Speaker 5: this third year we've done this, I always can can't
- 37:23Speaker 5: get over the fact. Thank you, Jennymury, she's got to
- 37:25Speaker 5: go back to work now, Thank you, Jenny. I can't
- 37:27Speaker 5: get over the fact that you have such a quick turnaround,
- 37:31Speaker 5: you know, because we're collecting these turkeys till six o'clock
- 37:34Speaker 5: tonight and you're going to have them all boxed up
- 37:35Speaker 5: ready to go by Saturday morning.
- 37:36Speaker 14: I promise you. We do this at Bible Center and
- 37:38Speaker 14: they have this down to an art. We'll start at
- 37:42Speaker 14: nine o'clock in the morning, they'll be done by eleven.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Right, It's unbelievable. And again, like I said, Robin, you
- 37:49Speaker 5: know this. You you two we talked about this on
- 37:52Speaker 5: yesterday's show. I think you two have worked in other states.
- 37:56Speaker 5: It's not like this everywhere. It is not like this everywhere.
- 37:59Speaker 5: The giving that West Virginians do for West Virginians, the
- 38:02Speaker 5: efficiency Jason was just talking about. You know, I've got
- 38:05Speaker 5: a background in economics, so I'm always watching for, you know,
- 38:09Speaker 5: as little waste as possible. How can we turn things
- 38:11Speaker 5: around fast? How can we make things easy and just
- 38:16Speaker 5: the number of people it takes to get these families fed,
- 38:20Speaker 5: but the number of people it takes to come through
- 38:22Speaker 5: our parking lot and give us the turkeys and the
- 38:25Speaker 5: contributions we need to get those people fed. I am
- 38:29Speaker 5: never surprised, but I'm always astounded by what West Virginians
- 38:34Speaker 5: will do for West Virginias. I'm always amazed too, that
- 38:39Speaker 5: how quickly people respond. I mean, because we start, I
- 38:42Speaker 5: wasn't here at seven. I got here about seven thirty.
- 38:44Speaker 5: But at seven o'clock. What time did the first turkey
- 38:46Speaker 5: roll in? But actually before But enough about Bobbi's fry,
- 38:52Speaker 5: all right, but what time was it was before? It
- 38:54Speaker 5: was before seven. Yeah, we didn't even have the turkey
- 38:57Speaker 5: fully inflated. If you've been to our parking let you know.
- 39:00Speaker 5: But you'll see it when when you turn in. Yeah, Tom,
- 39:02Speaker 5: turkey wasn't even fully inflated yet. And we had the
- 39:05Speaker 5: first bird in the back of the Union mission truck.
- 39:07Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 39:07Speaker 3: That's what we do.
- 39:08Speaker 5: Bobby Spry is with us right now. How are you doing, Bobby,
- 39:11Speaker 5: Good morning.
- 39:11Speaker 16: I'm just trying to get warm from being out. It
- 39:14Speaker 16: is a little a little cool, but it could be worse,
- 39:15Speaker 16: it could be January collecting and.
- 39:20Speaker 5: That'll be the next big thing that we'll be doing.
- 39:22Speaker 5: Talk about the involvement of the corporate into this, because again,
- 39:25Speaker 5: you know, our listeners are the greatest people in the world.
- 39:28Speaker 5: But anytime that we reach out Bobby to our corporate
- 39:32Speaker 5: friends and we say whether it's a Chick fil A,
- 39:34Speaker 5: whether it's Serve Pro or Applectic Power, whatever, they say, yeah,
- 39:36Speaker 5: sign us up. Talk about that well.
- 39:39Speaker 16: I think we are lucky enough to have a lot
- 39:41Speaker 16: of clients who find the men's importance of giving back
- 39:45Speaker 16: to the community and helping where they can. So I
- 39:47Speaker 16: have a lot of clients who don't necessarily need to advertise,
- 39:50Speaker 16: but they always say, hey, if you have a community
- 39:52Speaker 16: event coming up, please reach out to us because we
- 39:55Speaker 16: would love to help.
- 39:56Speaker 5: And some of those folks are here. I know Tim
- 39:57Speaker 5: from Serve Pro's ibums out here. Tim and I've been
- 40:00Speaker 5: friends for a number of years. I was talking to
- 40:01Speaker 5: Tim out there a little bit earlier. We have several,
- 40:03Speaker 5: uh several of our of our folks that are on
- 40:05Speaker 5: hand here.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Rob.
- 40:06Speaker 5: We were talking a little bit earlier outside about companies
- 40:09Speaker 5: don't have feelings, but people do. And these companies, these
- 40:15Speaker 5: big names that you know and that you'll hear over
- 40:17Speaker 5: and over, surf Pro and app Co and Chick fil A.
- 40:21Speaker 5: They're run by people, and in our case, they are
- 40:23Speaker 5: run by the same sort of West Virginians who have
- 40:26Speaker 5: that giving spirit to help our friends and neighbors. All right,
- 40:30Speaker 5: So it's going on till six o'clock tonight on our
- 40:33Speaker 5: parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston. You
- 40:36Speaker 5: can run over, you know. I always give a big
- 40:38Speaker 5: shout out to Pigley Wiggily because they're they're the sponsors
- 40:40Speaker 5: of our hotline here. But that's not your story. You
- 40:43Speaker 5: can go to another one. Everybody's pretty much got turkey's
- 40:46Speaker 5: marked down at this point. They're flying right now. They're
- 40:49Speaker 5: they're flying off the shelves right now. What a foul joke.
- 40:52Speaker 5: But uh uh, But so go get a turkey, even
- 40:55Speaker 5: if you can't, you know, do a turkey. We'll take
- 40:57Speaker 5: cash donations, sweat through the ATM at lunch. Yeah, folding
- 41:00Speaker 5: money always works, all right, Bobby.
- 41:02Speaker 16: Yeah, I just want to say, if every business owner
- 41:05Speaker 16: in Charleston dropped off just one turkey, we would have
- 41:08Speaker 16: enough to feed the three hundred families who have signed
- 41:11Speaker 16: up to receive a Thanksgiving meal. So I am challenging you.
- 41:13Speaker 16: Please don't make me call you out by name, because
- 41:16Speaker 16: she will. I will pick up a turkey or drop
- 41:20Speaker 16: off a check. Tara Martinez came up. She dropped off
- 41:23Speaker 16: a two hundred and fifty dollars check donation, and we
- 41:25Speaker 16: are able to use that to buy more turkeys defeed
- 41:27Speaker 16: families this Thanksgiving all right til.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Six o'clock tonight, TJ Meadows, did you want to add
- 41:31Speaker 5: to this?
- 41:32Speaker 6: He?
- 41:32Speaker 5: TJ just walked in. I figured he wanted something. I
- 41:34Speaker 5: just wanted to see if you would acknowledge me. Everybody
- 41:36Speaker 5: else walked in and got acknowledged.
- 41:38Speaker 3: I was just kind of.
- 41:38Speaker 5: Curious if that's how it works. Well, I figured you
- 41:40Speaker 5: wanted something so but no, so he wants your chair
- 41:44Speaker 5: in about the twelve minutes. No, TJ. Let me ask
- 41:46Speaker 5: you because you know you're a West Virginian too, Bobby,
- 41:49Speaker 5: thank you very much. You are a West Virginian. You
- 41:52Speaker 5: know what we do here about giving back, It's just
- 41:56Speaker 5: something that's bred into you. I think you grow up here,
- 41:59Speaker 5: and if you didn't grow up here, we breed it
- 42:01Speaker 5: into you. Once you get here. It's just the way
- 42:03Speaker 5: that we are. We take care of our own and
- 42:05Speaker 5: I think we've always had to, right, so it's become
- 42:07Speaker 5: something that we've adapted to over the years. I'm gonna
- 42:10Speaker 5: be there on Saturday for the distribution with my kids.
- 42:13Speaker 5: That's something that we do every year and my kids
- 42:16Speaker 5: so look forward to that. And it's about the opportunity
- 42:18Speaker 5: to start to teach your kids. Sometimes folks are less
- 42:21Speaker 5: fortunate than you are. This is how we give back.
- 42:23Speaker 3: This is what we do.
- 42:24Speaker 5: We talk about it, we talk about it takes a village, yes,
- 42:27Speaker 5: and we really are living the village mentality still in
- 42:30Speaker 5: West Virginia in a way that other places I've lived
- 42:34Speaker 5: just don't. All Right till six o'clock tonight, TJE, we'll
- 42:38Speaker 5: be hearing from TJ here in a little bit, Rob
- 42:39Speaker 5: Real from a superstar country ninety six one KWS. You're
- 42:42Speaker 5: gonna come on a talk line, I think and also
- 42:44Speaker 5: Metro News midday later today. We're gonna make it squawk line.
- 42:47Speaker 5: Make it squawk line. Well, what are you gonna do
- 42:49Speaker 5: with the hot line? Are we gonna come hot buttered line?
- 42:51Speaker 16: Or what?
- 42:52Speaker 3: We'll figure something out between now and then or midday.
- 42:54Speaker 5: I should say midday. Well, we'll come on with something.
- 42:57Speaker 5: I'm sure there's some joke left over. Jason Patrell a
- 43:00Speaker 5: union mission. We appreciate you, buddy, thanks a lot, appreciate you.
- 43:02Speaker 5: All right, thanks guys. Again, it's going on till six
- 43:04Speaker 5: o'clock to night. Are parking not eleven eleven? Oh by
- 43:06Speaker 5: the way, sorry, Jason, hold on, this is for you,
- 43:08Speaker 5: who do we make checks out to for the turkey
- 43:10Speaker 5: drop union missions, So you just drop those off here
- 43:13Speaker 5: and the texture goes on to say thanks for all
- 43:16Speaker 5: you and your team do for the community. So yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 5: if you want to drop a check bye to us.
- 43:20Speaker 5: There's a QR code available, which is in the story.
- 43:23Speaker 5: I understand. I think at WP metronews dot com. We'll
- 43:26Speaker 5: take cash, we'll take the frozen turkeys, whatever you got.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Thanks man, all right, thanks gentlemen. All right, he's no gentleman.
- 43:34Speaker 5: He's a turkey. He is literally dressed as a turkey,
- 43:36Speaker 5: by the way, and we're gonna post some pictures on
- 43:38Speaker 5: the social media sites a little bit later on so
- 43:40Speaker 5: you can see. All right, thank you everybody that's already contributed. Again,

- 49:36Speaker 5: we're going to preview the area teams in the high

- 49:40Speaker 5: Charleston Humane Association is here with this week's Adopt Me
- 49:43Speaker 5: Please pet of the Week. And I mentioned earlier that
- 49:46Speaker 5: The Light the Nights gets underway tomorrow night over at
- 49:50Speaker 5: Gomart Ballpark, and so Jill Garren and Andy Shay from
- 49:53Speaker 5: the Dirty Birds along with Ben Silango are going to
- 49:55Speaker 5: stop by to talk about that. Coming up on tomorrow's show. Again,
- 50:01Speaker 5: says a Texter. Not one thing today political and Trump
- 50:04Speaker 5: derangement syndrome suffers just have to text into wine again.
- 50:08Speaker 5: Get out of the house, dude says It's could could
- 50:12Speaker 5: be a dude at I don't know. All I see
- 50:15Speaker 5: is a number lead's story. I'll get this in quick
- 50:17Speaker 5: at the website this morning, wv Metronews dot com. After
- 50:20Speaker 5: seventy years in business, Truth Pharmacy is selling out to Walgreens,
- 50:24Speaker 5: and I did reach out to Lynnfruth, the owner, and
- 50:28Speaker 5: they did put out a comment. She didn't respond, but
- 50:32Speaker 5: but they did put a statement out which you can
- 50:34Speaker 5: read that in its entirety at WV metro news dot com.
- 50:36Speaker 5: I'll say this, it is sad, sad to see them go.
- 50:40Speaker 5: And it's sad when any business that's been around as
- 50:42Speaker 5: long as Fruth Pharmacy has nineteen fifty two to be exact,
- 50:45Speaker 5: goes away, and you just lose more of your identity
- 50:49Speaker 5: when businesses like that go away. And look, that is
- 50:52Speaker 5: not a knock against Walgreens, CVS or any of those others.
- 50:56Speaker 5: Not I know they employ a lot of West Virginian
- 50:59Speaker 5: so that's not a knock again them. But in many cases,
- 51:02Speaker 5: the smaller businesses like a fruit pharmacy just can't compete.
- 51:06Speaker 5: It's it's it's sad, but go read the story WV
- 51:09Speaker 5: Metronews dot com. TJ. Meadows is here. How you do it?
- 51:12Speaker 13: Man?
- 51:13Speaker 5: Capitalism unfortunately, and yeah, you and I are the kings
- 51:17Speaker 5: of capitalism. I get that, but but some folks like
- 51:20Speaker 5: like Len and the folks of Fruth feel like that
- 51:22Speaker 5: there are things that are unfair about it and and
- 51:25Speaker 5: I had Lynn on the show a couple of years ago.
- 51:27Speaker 5: She was lobbying the legislature, trying to trying to even
- 51:30Speaker 5: the playing field, if you will.
- 51:33Speaker 8: From the time it is born. Just like every human,
- 51:35Speaker 8: every business is dying. This is one of the things
- 51:38Speaker 8: Jeff Bezos talks about. Disruption is something that's always been
- 51:43Speaker 8: there today, but it's it's so much more prevalent today,
- 51:46Speaker 8: and it happens so much more quickly, so much more timely,
- 51:50Speaker 8: you know, the lifespan of businesses.
- 51:53Speaker 3: It's unfortunate.
- 51:54Speaker 5: I don't like it.
- 51:57Speaker 8: I don't know that there's a better way. It's market efficiency.
- 51:59Speaker 8: It's going to happen. That doesn't help anyone who is
- 52:02Speaker 8: on the other end of it, but that that's the
- 52:05Speaker 8: way the system works. And uh, you know, the next
- 52:09Speaker 8: mouse trap will be coming after Walgreens and the larger chains.
- 52:14Speaker 8: I mean, you've got guys like like Cuban Cuban who's
- 52:18Speaker 8: out there with this cost plus dot ruban' Mark Cuban
- 52:21Speaker 8: with this cost plus dot com deal where he can
- 52:24Speaker 8: do it all online. I mean, it's always changing and
- 52:27Speaker 8: that doesn't make it any better me saying that, But
- 52:29Speaker 8: that's the way it is.
- 52:29Speaker 5: Quick text pharmacies are about to sucks. It's the private
- 52:31Speaker 5: equity firm that owns Walgreens is buying out its competitors.
- 52:34Speaker 8: Private equities buying everything today, they're going more to Main
- 52:36Speaker 8: Street than they are Wall Street.
- 52:38Speaker 5: All right, what you got on the show today?
- 52:40Speaker 8: Coming up ten oh six, we'll talk to Albert Wright
- 52:42Speaker 8: wvu mess the president and CEO on that acquisition. A
- 52:45Speaker 8: million nicely stops by. She's got a story this morning
- 52:47Speaker 8: on homelessness. The numbers are just staggered.
