- 0:05Speaker 1: Our back at the NFL Report. I am Steve White,
- 0:08Speaker 1: is my guy, James Palmer. Week one is almost completely
- 0:12Speaker 1: in the bank, and stick with me because we are
- 0:14Speaker 1: going to continue this financial money theme.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Throughout the show.
- 0:19Speaker 3: JP.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I just saw you slide into your seat, Chris collins
- 0:22Speaker 1: Worth style. Man, where are you coming from?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Bro? Yeah? I was in twenty a United just you know,
- 0:30Speaker 3: standard economy four hour and twenty minute flight from Foxborough.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Had a chance to hang out with TV twelve yesterday
- 0:36Speaker 3: for Eagles and Patriots since nineteen ninety nine. This was
- 0:41Speaker 3: our first Sunday to open a season, Steve without Tom Brady. Well,
- 0:45Speaker 3: he was still there in Foxborough. I'm not gonna lie.
- 0:47Speaker 3: The new additions to Jewleet are incredible, the new scoreboard,
- 0:50Speaker 3: the lighthouse, It's it's unreal. Robert Craft at it again.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
- 0:55Speaker 1: At least you were in an exit road, JP, and
- 0:57Speaker 1: I think a lot of people with the New York
- 0:59Speaker 1: Giants wish they were in an exit row after what
- 1:02Speaker 1: happened because a Dallas Cowboys Sunday night, Hey, I was
- 1:05Speaker 1: at the Chargers to offense game. I mean that was
- 1:07Speaker 1: the best game of the weekend. Seven league changes and
- 1:10Speaker 1: how about this, James I had the honor serious honor
- 1:14Speaker 1: at halftime for their jersey retirement ceremony to bring in
- 1:18Speaker 1: Charlie Joyner number eighteen and Kellen Winslow number eighty. Is
- 1:22Speaker 1: they became the fifth and six Chargers to have their
- 1:25Speaker 1: numbers retired. Our guy Ledanian Tomlinson was there.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That was hot.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But JP, you know week one I got talked about
- 1:33Speaker 1: a lot of money. We have a money trail we
- 1:36Speaker 1: have to follow here, So why don't you just take
- 1:39Speaker 1: those crumbs lead us into our first discussion, sir.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yeah's let's follow the bread crumbs. Let's follow the money,
- 1:47Speaker 3: because let's go with a guy who just got paid
- 1:49Speaker 3: in Joe Burrow, the highest paid player in the NFL
- 1:52Speaker 3: after that new contract right before the start of the season.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And what does he do well? They lay an egg
- 1:57Speaker 3: stave offensively, But I think the storyline honestly, and we'll
- 2:01Speaker 3: talk about the Bengals at lengthwoff Cam wolf On a
- 2:03Speaker 3: little bit later, who was also at that game in Cleveland.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Let's start out with the defense that gave Joe Burrow
- 2:09Speaker 3: that miserable, miserable day. I Steve, for one, with all
- 2:14Speaker 3: the coaching changes that happened. Spent some time in Cleveland
- 2:17Speaker 3: during training camp, and you know, I'm a Philly guy.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I thought Jim Schwartz was maybe my favorite offseason acquisition
- 2:23Speaker 3: by any team with him running this defense, because I'm curious,
- 2:27Speaker 3: if there's a better matchup then maybe James Cameron casting
- 2:31Speaker 3: Arnold Schartzeneger as the terminator than Miles Garrett playing for
- 2:35Speaker 3: Jim Schwartz. I mean, it's just a perfect matches. At
- 2:37Speaker 3: sixteen sacks each of the last two seasons, I think
- 2:40Speaker 3: he could get twenty in this scheme that he's operating.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And now that we saw Zadarius Smith on the other side,
- 2:47Speaker 3: they went and got interior type of players right at
- 2:50Speaker 3: the start of free agency where they could be better
- 2:52Speaker 3: as an interior defensive line. He's able to allow them
- 2:55Speaker 3: to go out there. Steven play faster, play at a
- 2:57Speaker 3: higher speed. It's simpler. He's got corners that can play this.
- 3:01Speaker 3: He's got a safety. I think this part's really underrated
- 3:04Speaker 3: in Rodney McLeod that knows this system so well to
- 3:07Speaker 3: help out that group on the back end, and they
- 3:10Speaker 3: were able to give Joe Burrow just pretty much his
- 3:13Speaker 3: worst day of his career, pulled with about five minutes
- 3:16Speaker 3: to go. Because of what this defense was able to do.
- 3:19Speaker 3: What stood out to you most about this game because
- 3:22Speaker 3: to me, it was this defense that maybe I don't know,
- 3:26Speaker 3: Jim Schwartz, and this defense the one that shakes up
- 3:28Speaker 3: this whole division, which could be one of the toughest
- 3:30Speaker 3: in football.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Well, first off, talking about Jim Schwartz, there were players
- 3:34Speaker 1: when Miles Garrett was actually in a two point stance
- 3:36Speaker 1: over center, like he was giving the.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Bengals all over look yep. And so this is a new.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Element to what it has been a one sided rivalry
- 3:45Speaker 1: in here because Cleveland, I think this was the fifth
- 3:47Speaker 1: time out of the last six games they'd beaten Joey
- 3:50Speaker 1: b So that you got that part of it, and
- 3:53Speaker 1: then you've got the Browns offense, right, we're gonna be
- 3:56Speaker 1: We wondered. We talked about it last week JP about
- 4:00Speaker 1: how this offense is gonna look, especially this dominant run
- 4:02Speaker 1: game with Nick Chubb, with DeShawn Watson playing mainly out
- 4:06Speaker 1: of shotgun. Well, we saw it yesterday where Nick Chubb come,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, rushing more than one hundred yards. DeShawn Watson
- 4:12Speaker 1: went for I think more than fifty yards rushing. So
- 4:16Speaker 1: that's gonna be, to me the formula for what this
- 4:18Speaker 1: offense does all season.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Because Deshaun Watson wasn't great throwing the ball.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We know we had weather in that game, but it
- 4:24Speaker 1: still seemed like they've got some timing things that they've
- 4:27Speaker 1: got to work through with the style that he plays.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But that run game is gonna be to me JP important.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And there's also a new element to this in Cleveland.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Jack Conklin the starting offensive tackle for the Brons. He's
- 4:39Speaker 1: out for the season with a knee injury. That's something
- 4:43Speaker 1: that could impact it. But they drafted a rookie out
- 4:46Speaker 1: of Ohio State, out of your alma mater, to come
- 4:49Speaker 1: in there and do his thing. I know you got
- 4:50Speaker 1: the scouting report.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I do, Steve. I had the scouting report. It was
- 4:56Speaker 3: I did the pro day, and it was like when
- 4:58Speaker 3: Jerry Seinfeld said, I ree refuse to run, I refuse
- 5:02Speaker 3: to race. He did not want to work out at
- 5:04Speaker 3: the pro day. He just said, I'm not working out.
- 5:06Speaker 3: He was there, didn't work out. But I will say this,
- 5:09Speaker 3: the back end of training camp with Dwan Jones, who
- 5:11Speaker 3: is a massive, massive human being, has actually grown a
- 5:16Speaker 3: little bit as this camp has gone on, and it's
- 5:19Speaker 3: extremely important because he is now their starting right tackle.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Kevin Stefanski announced it on Monday. Jack Conklin with the
- 5:24Speaker 3: ACL is done for the season and his first test
- 5:27Speaker 3: as a starter in the NFL is going to be
- 5:29Speaker 3: going against probably a very angry TJ. Watt and Steelers
- 5:32Speaker 3: defense after what had three zacks in that game against
- 5:36Speaker 3: the forty nine Ers, and he's now going to have
- 5:39Speaker 3: to try to handle TJ. Watt and protect Joe Burrow.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I mean to protect a Shan Watson, and I think
- 5:45Speaker 3: that part to me, Steve stands out is in that's
- 5:48Speaker 3: another added element we might see Deshaan Watson using his legs.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I talked to him after their final preseason game and
- 5:53Speaker 3: he told me, you know, I am a guy that
- 5:54Speaker 3: scrambles and looks to throw off the scramble. He might
- 5:58Speaker 3: be looking to run off the scramble a little bit more,
- 6:00Speaker 3: or if he uses his legs continuously as a part
- 6:02Speaker 3: of the way this offense moves. Kevin Stefanski kind of
- 6:05Speaker 3: believes in my understanding that it's a week by week
- 6:09Speaker 3: basis on how they'll use to Shawn. In terms of
- 6:11Speaker 3: the run game, there was one designed run they put
- 6:14Speaker 3: in late. I'm told it was specifically four to Sean
- 6:19Speaker 3: to have the right look and make the call himself, Steve,
- 6:23Speaker 3: and he did, and that's what he scored a touchdown on.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So they're gonna find ways to have him use his legs.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they have to.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Again, the way this offense works, the way that run
- 6:30Speaker 1: game works, with Nick Chubbs setting things up, that's perfect,
- 6:33Speaker 1: perfect segue there jp to help us transition down this
- 6:37Speaker 1: money trail, because again we're following the money and we
- 6:40Speaker 1: know Nick Bisa he got paid last week five years,
- 6:43Speaker 1: one hundred seventy million dollars.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Well, he doesn't practice allid training camp.
- 6:47Speaker 1: They go up to Pittsburgh and the forty nine Ers
- 6:50Speaker 1: lay an absolute thrashing on the Steelers, the preseason Super
- 6:55Speaker 1: Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, mind you.
- 6:57Speaker 2: They go up there win thirty to seven.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I was part of that, yeah, hey.
- 7:02Speaker 1: In a large part of this, though, is because offensively
- 7:04Speaker 1: with the San Francisco forty nine Ers, they were able
- 7:06Speaker 1: to jump to that twenty point lead, and our guy,
- 7:11Speaker 1: the quarterback, Brock Purty comes out.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Everyone's wondering about Brock party.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They didn't miss a beat, they come out offensively, he
- 7:19Speaker 1: throws the ball, he gets it out on time and JP,
- 7:22Speaker 1: he's got Christian McCaffrey, who says, you don't need a
- 7:25Speaker 1: bell Kyle running back, not Kyle Shanahan. McCaffrey touts it
- 7:29Speaker 1: more than twenty two times. He's got the explosive touchdown.
- 7:32Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about a part of that run. It's
- 7:34Speaker 1: one of my favorite plays of the weekend. But here
- 7:38Speaker 1: you're seeing the offensive line. Look at the eyes, look
- 7:40Speaker 1: at the read. Oh there's a block. Look at the
- 7:42Speaker 1: physicality that McCaffrey runs with. And then right here, look
- 7:46Speaker 1: at the block and look at the blocking.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Here's his read. This is what the Niners do.
- 7:50Speaker 3: JP.
- 7:50Speaker 1: They get the twenty point lead, and then it's off
- 7:53Speaker 1: to the races. Then you're asking Kenny Pickett to throw
- 7:56Speaker 1: the ball a billion times more, I mean, only four
- 8:00Speaker 1: thirty six times. Then he wants to throw it. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: mean that's too much. That's not the formula that Mike
- 8:05Speaker 1: Tomlan want to play with. You get Kenny Pickett throwing
- 8:07Speaker 1: the ball forty six times, you're gonna be off to
- 8:10Speaker 1: the races.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Like Christian McCaffrey is here on this long team run.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I love you talked about the physicality because you know
- 8:17Speaker 3: what this team does when they're on the road in
- 8:19Speaker 3: the hotel Saturday night, they don't watch a single offensive play,
- 8:22Speaker 3: which if I had Deebo, Samuel, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey,
- 8:26Speaker 3: all those weapons, I'd be watching some highlights. No, they
- 8:28Speaker 3: watch only highlights of the defense because they want their
- 8:32Speaker 3: entire mindset to be about physicality, and the offense goes
- 8:37Speaker 3: out and tries to match the physicality of the way
- 8:39Speaker 3: this defense plays. But sticking with the offense, I think
- 8:42Speaker 3: there was a little bit of a chip on Kyle
- 8:45Speaker 3: Shanahan's shoulder, obviously on Brock purty shoulder and in pretty
- 8:48Speaker 3: much everybody else that you heard talk in that locker
- 8:51Speaker 3: room after this game. I think Steve it was watch us.
- 8:53Speaker 3: We made the right decision in our quarterback room. Oh,
- 8:56Speaker 3: there was a couple things said by Patrick Peterson in
- 8:59Speaker 3: the about our quarterback. Did you hear Brock Perdy in
- 9:03Speaker 3: the postgame press conference? He said, oh, that first touchdown
- 9:06Speaker 3: to Branda who was in coverage there? And somebody that
- 9:08Speaker 3: you think he didn't know who was in coverage there?
- 9:10Speaker 3: They said, Patrick peerre like Oh yeah, that was a
- 9:12Speaker 3: good play. That one felt good. That one's good. I
- 9:15Speaker 3: like the kind of mindset. I know, we overreact about
- 9:18Speaker 3: Week one and everybody's season is either over or they're
- 9:22Speaker 3: going to the super Bowl. But I think you can
- 9:24Speaker 3: read into the forty nine Ers mindset in we were
- 9:27Speaker 3: rolling before we got to that NFC Championship game and
- 9:31Speaker 3: oth lost both of our quarterbacks. I think you could
- 9:33Speaker 3: tell by the way Kyle Shanahan called this game, the
- 9:36Speaker 3: way he was aggressive, the way he went after certain
- 9:38Speaker 3: people to prove a point about them, to prove a
- 9:40Speaker 3: point about Brock Perdy. I like the mindset. There was
- 9:43Speaker 3: some jabbering going on in that forty nine Ers locker
- 9:46Speaker 3: room afterwards, especially Joey Bosa and I mean Nick Mosa
- 9:49Speaker 3: and a couple other guys just kind of saying, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 3: we're ready to put you know, the pedal to the
- 9:53Speaker 3: metal Steve right off the jump. And I think that's
- 9:56Speaker 3: one of the biggest things about this Niners team. And
- 9:58Speaker 3: you look at where they start the season, they could
- 10:00Speaker 3: be four and oh very easily through these first four games.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Look, and what's interesting is, like you said, overreaction Monday,
- 10:08Speaker 1: Week one, no teams as bad as as they seem,
- 10:12Speaker 1: no teams as good as they seem, except I do
- 10:14Speaker 1: think the Niners are one of the teams we could
- 10:16Speaker 1: read the tea leaves on and say this is where
- 10:18Speaker 1: they're headed. And here's a prime example why Nick Bosa
- 10:21Speaker 1: didn't have a sax. Jevon Hargrave had a great game.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But Drake Jackson, the second year defensive end, who should
- 10:27Speaker 1: benefit with having Eric Armstead and Hardgrave and Boast on
- 10:30Speaker 1: that line? Oh he benefited. He had three sacks. You
- 10:32Speaker 1: got a fourth guy on that line who could recavoc.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Now that's gonna be a significant problem.
- 10:39Speaker 2: James. We have more money to talk about. To talk
- 10:42Speaker 2: about this money trail.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Okay, and the New York Giants, they got their lunch
- 10:48Speaker 1: money taken, They got their breakfast money taken.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 10:51Speaker 2: They got bankrupted. They got bankrupted.
- 10:54Speaker 1: They didn't score a point by the Dallas Cowboys coming
- 10:57Speaker 1: in and putting a forty to nothing the Cocoa goff
- 11:01Speaker 1: a forty to love beat down on them at MetLife Stadium.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that was something I'm not gonna lie. I walk
- 11:12Speaker 3: I walked in from into my hotel in Boston. You know,
- 11:16Speaker 3: sitting in that tremendous traffic out of Foxborough. There's a
- 11:18Speaker 3: lot of ways to get out of that stadium. No,
- 11:21Speaker 3: there's not. And so I got in there and I
- 11:23Speaker 3: was like, this game is pretty much over. I got
- 11:25Speaker 3: I better hit the sheets. I got an early flight tomorrow.
- 11:28Speaker 3: We knew that this was gonna be a dominant defense,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and I know we talked about the forty nine ers
- 11:33Speaker 3: going out there, Stephen, on both sides of the ball.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I think they wanted to prove a point. I think
- 11:36Speaker 3: there was a definite point pro proven by this Dallas defense.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And I listen on game day morning, I was on it.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I'm listening to the whole show. Mayor Jerald McCoy and
- 11:45Speaker 3: Michael Irvin can't stop arguing about the Cowboys. We're already
- 11:49Speaker 3: talking about him at nauseum. I think the hype train
- 11:52Speaker 3: is now into the stratosphere after this forty to nothing
- 11:55Speaker 3: beat down. The biggest beat down by a Cowboys team ever,
- 11:59Speaker 3: Steve in terms it was thirty eight to nothing against
- 12:02Speaker 3: the Baltimore Colts in nineteen seventy eight. This is their
- 12:06Speaker 3: largest shutout victory ever. And I think Micah Parsons and
- 12:10Speaker 3: company wanted to go out and prove a point. And
- 12:12Speaker 3: now it's gonna be really fun week two against the Jet.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, look, we're a j ifeop. We're gonna have James
- 12:18Speaker 1: Slater on just a little bit to talk about this defense.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But the fact that you know, you talk about all
- 12:23Speaker 1: the action that they have up front with Micah Parsons
- 12:25Speaker 1: and Dexter Lords and some of those guys. Hey man,
- 12:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna storry DeMarcus Lawrence. The fact that they added
- 12:31Speaker 1: the Gilly lock, and we're gonna talk about Stefan Gilmour
- 12:34Speaker 1: to go with Travon Diggs to hold those receivers up
- 12:36Speaker 1: a little that says something. But for them to go
- 12:39Speaker 1: up and they play a Giants team, right, they were like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: oh the Giants were barking?
- 12:42Speaker 2: What about all these people talking about the Giants and Giants?
- 12:44Speaker 2: And they went up there with bad intentions and played
- 12:47Speaker 2: like this. Like you said, we talked about.
- 12:49Speaker 1: The forty nine ers kind of letting the world know
- 12:52Speaker 1: and we know the Cowboys were gonna have really good
- 12:53Speaker 1: defense and they should have a very good team.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Dak did not have.
- 12:56Speaker 1: To do too much last night. The Saw offense did
- 12:58Speaker 1: not have to do too much. That's how they want
- 13:00Speaker 1: to play. Now, there's gonna be games of this offense.
- 13:02Speaker 1: It's gonna have to do a lot and we're seeing
- 13:04Speaker 1: this quick I love this quick pitch to Tony Pollard.
- 13:06Speaker 1: The old two handed volleyball shovel pitch that we used
- 13:09Speaker 1: to run in.
- 13:09Speaker 2: High school are really good design.
- 13:11Speaker 1: There's gonna be some games with this offense. Is gonna
- 13:13Speaker 1: have to step up for the defense. It has been
- 13:16Speaker 1: the leading defense and takeaways over the past two seasons,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and now with Mike McCarthy calling the offense, they're gonna
- 13:22Speaker 1: be able to pick their spots when they can flash.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But this was the ideal game for the Cowboys and
- 13:27Speaker 1: for the Giants. I think some of those expectations. I
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't know if they need to be tempered, because again
- 13:32Speaker 1: I don't want to really overreact, but this is gonna
- 13:34Speaker 1: be a tough week for the Giants in regrouping because
- 13:38Speaker 1: they know last year they got away with a couple
- 13:39Speaker 1: of victories with certain things they did with the enthusiasm
- 13:42Speaker 1: and the way they played, etc. But they do have
- 13:45Speaker 1: a way to go throughout if they want to be
- 13:48Speaker 1: a player in the NFC, And this was a heck
- 13:50Speaker 1: of a wake up call for them. So again, we're
- 13:52Speaker 1: gonna have change later on and just a little bit
- 13:56Speaker 1: to talk more about the Cowboys and what's going on
- 14:00Speaker 1: coming up in the next block.
- 14:02Speaker 2: JP. We got a lot of pettish coming out of Ohio.
- 14:05Speaker 2: We went to Ohio. Say you know what pettish is?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Oh, give me the what man?
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah, this is real, now, this is really real. We'll
- 14:11Speaker 1: be back soon on the NFL report.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Who there's been a lot of trash shalk in this battle.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Jamar Chase made an l's reference. You held them to
- 14:29Speaker 4: thirty three passing yard for Jamar Chase, none for t
- 14:32Speaker 4: Higgins on eight targets.
- 14:33Speaker 2: What does that mean in that battle? I mean a lot. Man.
- 14:36Speaker 5: We're trying to be the best in the world. We're
- 14:37Speaker 5: trying to be the best secondary. We're trying to get
- 14:39Speaker 5: all our the whole secondary to the Pro Bowl. So
- 14:41Speaker 5: we're just trying to go out and dominate every game.
- 14:43Speaker 5: But it's about us, man, taking a game at the time.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You dominate.
- 14:46Speaker 4: When you look at this rivalry as of late, you
- 14:49Speaker 4: guys have dominated six of your last seven. What is
- 14:52Speaker 4: it about the Battle of Ohio and particularly playing here
- 14:55Speaker 4: in Cleveland.
- 14:56Speaker 5: I guess y'all are they mean a lot of these
- 14:57Speaker 5: division games, man, they mean a lot. So anytime you
- 15:00Speaker 5: come out to get a win, that's big.
- 15:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:05Speaker 1: That was our Cameron Wolf with Brown's cornerback Denzel Ward.
- 15:08Speaker 1: We're now joined by Killer Cam. He's back in his
- 15:11Speaker 1: home in Florida after being in Ohio for the Browns
- 15:16Speaker 1: fifth victory in the past six games. Over Joe Burrow camp,
- 15:20Speaker 1: you talked about what that Browns defense did to Joe Burrow.
- 15:23Speaker 1: We saw how ineffective they was. The Bengals offense was.
- 15:28Speaker 2: After Burrow not being in all most of training camp
- 15:31Speaker 2: because of that calf injury.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Should folks be worried about what's happening with Cincinnati's offense.
- 15:36Speaker 4: No, Stee, they should not be worried. But there's one
- 15:38Speaker 4: key cavey I don't want to tell later that I
- 15:41Speaker 4: do want to see the Bengals improve upon. But the
- 15:43Speaker 4: reason why they shouldn't be worried is the Bengals have
- 15:45Speaker 4: been the year before, second straight year Joe Burrow's missed
- 15:48Speaker 4: essentially all training camp, and they've struggled out the gate.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Last year they were owing to the start. They ended
- 15:53Speaker 4: up finishing twelve and four. And I was talking to
- 15:55Speaker 4: players on the field in pregame and they said they
- 15:57Speaker 4: didn't legitimately didn't know that Burrow was going to play
- 16:00Speaker 4: until about midweek of game week, and so there's a
- 16:03Speaker 4: lot of uncertainty. A couple guys said they were worrying
- 16:05Speaker 4: a bit, right, what they're gonna what's going on?
- 16:07Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 16:08Speaker 4: They thought he would play, they didn't fully know, and
- 16:10Speaker 4: so you have the uncertainty, and that affects game planning
- 16:13Speaker 4: all week. Coaches are telling me, it's not gonna be
- 16:16Speaker 4: the same as last year. It's not gonna be the same.
- 16:17Speaker 4: We're gonna be ready. We're gonna be ready. Well, they
- 16:19Speaker 4: were not ready, and so they're gonna get it together.
- 16:22Speaker 4: They're gonna get their rush ready. Joe Burrow is gonna
- 16:24Speaker 4: get healthier. He's not gonna have a career low in
- 16:26Speaker 4: passing yards like he did before, and so that's gonna
- 16:29Speaker 4: get past them. And then there's also the element that
- 16:32Speaker 4: the Browns seem to had their number. We talked about
- 16:34Speaker 4: their record. They match up extremely well, their corners and
- 16:38Speaker 4: their receivers, and so ultimately they don't play the Browns
- 16:41Speaker 4: every week, So the Bengals will be fine, but I
- 16:43Speaker 4: do have one caveat.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I'm curious Cam though that you know. I know the
- 16:49Speaker 3: weather played a part in it. Joe Burrow had to
- 16:51Speaker 3: throw a glove on at one point, throws for eighty
- 16:52Speaker 3: two yards only six first downs. But to me, in
- 16:55Speaker 3: the AFC, from Week one on, I think everybody has
- 16:59Speaker 3: to be looking for an advantage because if you're one
- 17:01Speaker 3: of these teams contending to come out of the AFC
- 17:04Speaker 3: and go play in Vegas, every single week's gonna matter
- 17:07Speaker 3: whether in the postseason. This could matter whether I know
- 17:10Speaker 3: we overreact in Week one, but could matter whether you're
- 17:13Speaker 3: playing the NFC title game at Arrowhead or at home,
- 17:16Speaker 3: or how your playoff situation is going to go. I
- 17:18Speaker 3: think early in this season, if you look at this division,
- 17:21Speaker 3: what do you have Kenny Pickett is you know, thirteen
- 17:24Speaker 3: career starts. You have Deshaun Watson still getting his feet
- 17:27Speaker 3: wet in Cleveland. You have a new offensive coordinator with
- 17:30Speaker 3: the Ravens. What was the Cincinnati Bengals advantage continuity? Everybody
- 17:35Speaker 3: was back, everybody was back from the from the offensive staff.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I thought that would give them advantage early. This could
- 17:41Speaker 3: be a missed opportunity in a sense.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm completely perplexed by what Cam said about the
- 17:46Speaker 1: wide receivers not knowing of Joe Burrow was going to
- 17:48Speaker 1: play or not.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, so what so what I mean.
- 17:52Speaker 1: What you've been practicing with the other with the other
- 17:56Speaker 1: quarterbacks all training camp. So if Burrow was playing or not,
- 18:00Speaker 1: what difference should that make? So the fact that they
- 18:02Speaker 1: were even talking about that just doesn't sound right to
- 18:07Speaker 1: me when we know how high functioning this offense can be. Now,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Joe Burrow makes one heck of a difference, but I
- 18:13Speaker 1: think would happen. Also, let's not discount we talked about
- 18:15Speaker 1: it earlier. Jim Schwartz came out there and showed them
- 18:17Speaker 1: some looks where you know, they were kind of like
- 18:20Speaker 1: miss yell At, like, hey, uh duh, couldn't figure it.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Out right, right, Steve, to your point, the Bengals have
- 18:30Speaker 4: really struggled with the Browns and the Browns corners made
- 18:33Speaker 4: clear they feel like it's because they have the receiver's numbers.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Martin Eberson, Denzel Ward, Greg knew some they match up
- 18:41Speaker 4: extremely well, and there's not a lot of teams that
- 18:42Speaker 4: have the three corners that can match up with their
- 18:45Speaker 4: three receivers and their thought processes. The Bengals passing attack
- 18:49Speaker 4: is their offense. If you stop those receivers, you stop
- 18:52Speaker 4: the Bengals. And when I was in the locker room
- 18:53Speaker 4: after the game, I talked to Obo Aroqua as one
- 18:56Speaker 4: of the Browns defensive linemen, and he's had a great
- 18:58Speaker 4: quote about Jim schwartz scheme. He essentially said, the Seafofts
- 19:01Speaker 4: were off. We want to get off that rock. We
- 19:03Speaker 4: want to shoot first and ask questions later. So we
- 19:05Speaker 4: turned off the camera and I'm walking and talking with him.
- 19:08Speaker 4: We're talking about how he's playing to celebrate to night,
- 19:10Speaker 4: and I said, I've got one more question for you, man,
- 19:12Speaker 4: Why when you guys send all these pressure books, you're
- 19:15Speaker 4: having a Miles Garrett line up at inside linebacker and
- 19:17Speaker 4: get there as well. Why didn't you guys seem worried
- 19:20Speaker 4: about the running attack. He smiled at me. He said,
- 19:22Speaker 4: we're not worried because we shoot first and asked questions later.
- 19:25Speaker 4: And so I was thinking about that on the plane
- 19:28Speaker 4: back here, and I'm like, the Bengals have really struggled
- 19:31Speaker 4: to run the ball last three years, their bottom five
- 19:33Speaker 4: running team. The coaches told me about you saw the
- 19:36Speaker 4: weather that it was going to be a Nick Chubb game.
- 19:38Speaker 4: They were like, Oh, it's going to be a Nick
- 19:40Speaker 4: Chubb game. Why didn't the Bengals adjust? Why didn't the
- 19:42Speaker 4: Bengals go to Joe Mixon Moore? Why can't they adjust
- 19:45Speaker 4: on the fly? To me, that comes a worry later
- 19:48Speaker 4: in the season if you're one dimensional, not many teams
- 19:50Speaker 4: have the corners, but the Jets have the corners to
- 19:52Speaker 4: be able to play these guys. Went on one the
- 19:55Speaker 4: Dolphins that they get healthy late in the year with
- 19:57Speaker 4: Jayalen Ramsey, Xaviing Howard and Kater Kohu have the corners
- 20:00Speaker 4: late in the year. And then the Browns do what
- 20:02Speaker 4: are you do in those matchups when they play man
- 20:05Speaker 4: like they do and say we're gonna be our guys
- 20:07Speaker 4: are better than yours. Let's see how you adjust.
- 20:09Speaker 2: That?
- 20:09Speaker 4: To me is the one caveat that I'm a little
- 20:11Speaker 4: worried about what the Bengals going forward.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Listen, the Bengals didn't have a problem during the week.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Apparently he didn't know if his quarterback was playing or not,
- 20:22Speaker 3: but Jamar Chase was confident whether it was gonna be
- 20:25Speaker 3: Joe Burrow or somebody else out there. He was dropping
- 20:28Speaker 3: some Elves references during the week. Let's let's hear it.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Let's hear Jamar Chase and.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Like, mis frustrating because I called Elves and we just
- 20:36Speaker 6: lost as some ls. So I'm pissed on my party.
- 20:38Speaker 6: I'm not I'm pissed on that end. Like I said, Man,
- 20:42Speaker 6: we got missed opportunities, we didn't capitalize on it, and
- 20:45Speaker 6: we lost. So that's how we lost.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and now we're also showing a tweet.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We're getting ready to show a tweet right now because
- 20:51Speaker 1: Jamar was was was parking a little bit for the
- 20:54Speaker 1: game too, and so Cleveland had a nice retort. Remember jamarshit,
- 20:57Speaker 1: Cleveland is Cleveland, said, Hey, Cleveland is Cleveland. And there's
- 21:03Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson celebrating playing the guitar the Rock and Roll
- 21:06Speaker 1: Hall of Fame with that three to twenty four score
- 21:11Speaker 1: right there. Look, keV, you gotta kind of love the
- 21:14Speaker 1: pettiness of what's going on right here because the Browns,
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know, like you saw the part they've had the
- 21:19Speaker 1: number for the Bengals.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I mean, it's one of the few teams that they
- 21:22Speaker 2: can say this against.
- 21:23Speaker 1: But they do have to play the Bengals later in
- 21:26Speaker 1: the year, so you know there's that part.
- 21:29Speaker 2: But let's also get to you saw Cleveland.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson did not necessarily play well in the passing game,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but in the running game, the combo him and Nick
- 21:37Speaker 1: Chubb with something special.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Absolutely. I love Pitios too. By the way, I love
- 21:41Speaker 4: that trash talk all the time.
- 21:43Speaker 3: But Deshaun Watson, you should see what this dude texts
- 21:46Speaker 3: all the time.
- 21:46Speaker 4: See pettiness is my friend. I also like that Jamar
- 21:50Speaker 4: Chase doubles down on that after an L Like, what
- 21:54Speaker 4: is the rare You're wrong? Like, you guys got got
- 21:57Speaker 4: shut down and you still double down. That's the rare
- 22:01Speaker 4: transition where you just gotta swallow that. And Greg Newsom
- 22:03Speaker 4: said that after the game, he was like, a you know,
- 22:05Speaker 4: he's just got to swallow this L but that that
- 22:07Speaker 4: next game is gonna be a fun duo here, uh,
- 22:11Speaker 4: you know, kind of revenge a game for the Bengals,
- 22:13Speaker 4: but they have not had a lot of luck.
- 22:14Speaker 2: There at all.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Well, I think what the Browns best tweet would have
- 22:18Speaker 1: been like an Elves reference but with an l V Yes,
- 22:23Speaker 1: since they had a tweet.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Saying Elves and then did the little, you know, the
- 22:27Speaker 4: f around and mess around thing with the graft.
- 22:29Speaker 3: They had a tweet where.
- 22:31Speaker 4: They said essentially that and they did the line connecting
- 22:34Speaker 4: and you know, you guys, you guys have seen the group.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I love that.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Hey, next time, cam you when you tell us how
- 22:40Speaker 1: you're going to be celebrating, the players are gonna be celebrating.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You are not going to hide that part. You are
- 22:45Speaker 1: going to disclose it because you put that out there publicly.
- 22:47Speaker 1: But we got to keep it moving here at the
- 22:49Speaker 1: NFL Report because the most exciting game yesterday the Chargers
- 22:54Speaker 1: and the Dolphins, seven league changes.
- 22:56Speaker 2: We're gonna have Bridget Condon up with that.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Next We're also gonna be joined by Jame Slater learn
- 23:01Speaker 1: more about them cowboys.
- 23:04Speaker 2: And possibly what about Ryan Tannehill's.
- 23:07Speaker 7: Future with the Titans. Bro two was a baller. Bro
- 23:18Speaker 7: I've I've been saying this since last year. You know,
- 23:21Speaker 7: I've been an advocate, you know, for him, and like
- 23:24Speaker 7: he definitely showed it today, you know, even doing halftime,
- 23:27Speaker 7: you know, he was able to come in, you know,
- 23:29Speaker 7: get guys going a little bit and even on the
- 23:31Speaker 7: sideline with me, He's like, hey, Cheetah. Let's get it, baby,
- 23:34Speaker 7: big time moment, big time players, made big time plays.
- 23:36Speaker 8: The resilience, the focus that these guys needed to have today.
- 23:41Speaker 3: I mean it's the first game.
- 23:42Speaker 8: Like you, you don't necessarily know what to expect from
- 23:46Speaker 8: from their team, and I felt like they did their best.
- 23:48Speaker 8: They give us their best shot. They ran almost everything
- 23:52Speaker 8: that we've seen watching film.
- 23:55Speaker 3: So yeah, it feels.
- 23:57Speaker 8: Really really good to be able to come out with
- 23:59Speaker 8: a win.
- 24:03Speaker 1: All Right, you heard Tyreek Hill into Atoko Byloa from
- 24:05Speaker 1: the victorious Miami Dolphins. We're now joined by our Bridget
- 24:09Speaker 1: Condon and Bridget and I were at that Dolphins Chargers game.
- 24:12Speaker 2: So Bridget, for this segment, I'm gonna call you Cheetah.
- 24:15Speaker 2: So come on, che come me, Lyon, let's get it.
- 24:18Speaker 2: We'll call you Lyon. Please explain.
- 24:21Speaker 9: Uh Yeah, Tyreek Hill said maybe I'm not a cheetah,
- 24:23Speaker 9: I'm a lion, saying that he doesn't think anybody can
- 24:25Speaker 9: guard him. And while a lot of people like to
- 24:28Speaker 9: use this as bulletin board material, he might be right.
- 24:32Speaker 9: Tyreek Hill ran all over the Chargers defense yesterday, especially
- 24:37Speaker 9: against J. C. Jackson.
- 24:39Speaker 10: You could just tell he's his speed, Steve.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You saw it too.
- 24:43Speaker 9: Watching him in person is so different than what you
- 24:46Speaker 9: see on TV because the way that he moves right
- 24:49Speaker 9: and even if we'll get we'll get into all of this,
- 24:52Speaker 9: but even if the Chargers had a great game plan,
- 24:54Speaker 9: the way that he can just stop on a dime
- 24:57Speaker 9: and redirect defenses is what makes him so special. And
- 25:00Speaker 9: you know, he's one of the best receivers in the league,
- 25:02Speaker 9: if not the best. So I think this wasn't a
- 25:04Speaker 9: fluke for him. We're going to continue to see high
- 25:07Speaker 9: numbers like he put up yesterday.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Call you a cheetah, call me a lion, call me
- 25:13Speaker 3: whatever you want to call me, Steve, I would take
- 25:16Speaker 3: any nickname if I was Tyreek Hill. Just keep adding
- 25:19Speaker 3: to the list. It's kind of funny, Bridget, because I
- 25:21Speaker 3: remember having a long conversation with Vic Fangio about Tyreek
- 25:25Speaker 3: Hill and Vic is now in the same building as
- 25:28Speaker 3: Tyreek Hill, and he said, the hardest part and he
- 25:30Speaker 3: went against him twice a year when he was the
- 25:32Speaker 3: head coach of the Denver Broncos preparing for him, is
- 25:35Speaker 3: there is zero ways to simulate him during the week,
- 25:40Speaker 3: how he moves, how he operates. There is no comp
- 25:44Speaker 3: to Tyreek Hill in his mind to simulate and practice,
- 25:48Speaker 3: and he's one of the best defensive coordinators we've seen.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Steve in recent memory, he said, there's no comp to
- 25:52Speaker 3: him in the history of the NFL. So good luck
- 25:55Speaker 3: coming up with a game plan for a player that
- 25:58Speaker 3: really doesn't have a comp ever in this league.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Well, well, here's something if you listen to what Tuas
- 26:04Speaker 1: said right there. He said, they did everything we had
- 26:08Speaker 1: seen on film before and what they did on film
- 26:10Speaker 1: last year. In Week fourteen when Tua played, they got
- 26:12Speaker 1: hands on Miami's receivers, They did not allow them to
- 26:16Speaker 1: get free jump off the line of scrimmage, and they
- 26:18Speaker 1: sank their linebackers deep to disrupt the crossing routes.
- 26:21Speaker 2: That the Dolphins like to do. They tried that yesterday
- 26:25Speaker 2: and Miami had a plan.
- 26:26Speaker 1: First off, I think the receivers played with a lot
- 26:28Speaker 1: of force, and there in bridget we saw this. She
- 26:30Speaker 1: ran a lot of the crossing routes, all of the
- 26:32Speaker 1: crossing routes. Then all of a sudden, Tyreek Hill runs
- 26:35Speaker 1: a slug o quick slant and go deep. Because jac
- 26:39Speaker 1: Jackson was used to seeing him go on the on
- 26:40Speaker 1: the crossing route, thought he was gonna do that again.
- 26:43Speaker 1: He went deep blue by him when he's even he's leaving.
- 26:46Speaker 1: We saw the thirty thirty five yard touchdown score there
- 26:49Speaker 1: in the third quarter. So bridget you talked about Tyreek
- 26:51Speaker 1: Hill being unguarded. We had two hundred and fifteen.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Yards and eleven catches yesterday.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Toua was as accurate as they come on so many throws,
- 26:59Speaker 1: even in great coverage. But is this sustainable Miami functioning
- 27:04Speaker 1: at this high of octan.
- 27:06Speaker 9: I think it is because of the way that, like
- 27:09Speaker 9: I mentioned, he can just stop on a dime, and
- 27:10Speaker 9: his speed is what's going to carry this team. But
- 27:13Speaker 9: I want to just say, you know, Brandon Staley where
- 27:15Speaker 9: he I see, you know, maybe didn't do as well
- 27:18Speaker 9: as a head coach as you would have liked him
- 27:20Speaker 9: to do yesterday. Is he even said it, We don't.
- 27:22Speaker 10: We didn't play the right leverages.
- 27:23Speaker 9: And so for teams, when you're going up against a
- 27:25Speaker 9: guy like Tyreek, you have to be able to make
- 27:28Speaker 9: those in game adjustments right. And if you know you
- 27:31Speaker 9: have your safeties high and it's not working, figure out
- 27:34Speaker 9: a way to drop them back, or figure out a
- 27:35Speaker 9: way to interrupt him or double team him things that
- 27:38Speaker 9: you know, they were trying everything. Maybe they didn't have
- 27:40Speaker 9: the right personnel.
- 27:41Speaker 8: J C.
- 27:41Speaker 9: Jackson is coming back from that injury, so he doesn't
- 27:44Speaker 9: have maybe the confidence that he had.
- 27:46Speaker 10: Two seasons ago.
- 27:47Speaker 9: But with Tua being so accurate and Tyreek Hill being
- 27:51Speaker 9: able to you know, get open in various different levels
- 27:55Speaker 9: of the field, I do think they can sustain this.
- 27:57Speaker 9: A lot of people are wondering about the chart defense, right.
- 28:01Speaker 9: They spent so much money the past two years on
- 28:04Speaker 9: this defense, and again it's their Achilles heel. Justin Herbert
- 28:07Speaker 9: and the offense looked great this defense. Are they going
- 28:10Speaker 9: to be able to figure it out? I walked in
- 28:11Speaker 9: that locker room yesterday and it was pretty much cleared out.
- 28:14Speaker 10: Players are pissed, right.
- 28:16Speaker 9: I do think we need to pump the brakes though,
- 28:19Speaker 9: because this is week one overreaction. They got to figure
- 28:22Speaker 9: it out, and I do think Brandon Staley will get
- 28:24Speaker 9: them on the right track.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Quick note, JP No Toron Armstead of starting left tackle
- 28:28Speaker 1: for the Dolphins to a clean sheet didn't get sacked.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Good job by Miami's offensive line.
- 28:38Speaker 3: They look great up front, Steven Bridget. We know this
- 28:40Speaker 3: is a copycat League. So this won't be a copycat
- 28:43Speaker 3: game film. This is something to watch that to avoid
- 28:46Speaker 3: on how you would cover Tyreek Hill, do the exact opposite.
- 28:48Speaker 3: This is good, This is learning film. This is teach
- 28:49Speaker 3: tape right here, Bridget appreciate it. We're gonna slide on
- 28:53Speaker 3: to a game that wasn't nearly as entertaining if you
- 28:56Speaker 3: watched any of it really unless you're a Cowboys fan,
- 28:58Speaker 3: and see if that is the Cowboys forty to nothing
- 29:02Speaker 3: drubbing of the New York Football Giants. Here's a little
- 29:06Speaker 3: post game sound for you.
- 29:07Speaker 11: I mean, it's one game. We're excited, we feel good.
- 29:09Speaker 11: We feel good about what we played tonight. I think
- 29:13Speaker 11: we're still evolving, you know, we we we we know
- 29:16Speaker 11: where we want to go. I feel like we are
- 29:19Speaker 11: fully capable and having to understanding how to get there.
- 29:22Speaker 11: But it's a long journey. So we took we took
- 29:25Speaker 11: the first step the right way.
- 29:26Speaker 12: It got beat all the way around, from coaching to playing.
- 29:29Speaker 12: I accept that we got a lot to learn from,
- 29:32Speaker 12: a lot to work on, and that's what we'll do.
- 29:35Speaker 12: No excuses give credit to Dallas. They just did everything
- 29:40Speaker 12: better than we did tonight.
- 29:46Speaker 3: All right, That was Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys, Mike McCarthy,
- 29:49Speaker 3: Steve and I No, no, I got this Steve.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 29:52Speaker 3: I was Mike McCarthy and Brian day Ball. Yeah no,
- 29:55Speaker 3: that's no, that's okay, that's okay. I couldn't see your
- 29:57Speaker 3: beautiful face while while we were in that town right there.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Let's and we got to bring in the Cowboys expert,
- 30:02Speaker 3: the insider of the Dallas Cowboys over here at NFL Network,
- 30:04Speaker 3: nobody knows no more about this team than Jane Slater,
- 30:07Speaker 3: And we have to bring Jane in to talk about
- 30:10Speaker 3: really has the city exploded yet? Jane? Because Dallas, okay,
- 30:14Speaker 3: is it still standing?
- 30:19Speaker 13: You know, it's always the game people get up for
- 30:21Speaker 13: when they're playing the Giants, And we've talked about this
- 30:24Speaker 13: leading up to this one. Dak I think was eleven
- 30:26Speaker 13: and one heading into this, But this is the sort
- 30:28Speaker 13: of drubbing that they were looking forward to.
- 30:30Speaker 7: You know.
- 30:30Speaker 13: The mantra from Mike McCarthy this year is carpe Omnia
- 30:34Speaker 13: sees everything and Dan Quinn, big boxing guy.
- 30:37Speaker 10: This was a total knockout.
- 30:40Speaker 13: Like you, James, I was coming home from New Orleans
- 30:43Speaker 13: put this on in the half and rewatch the first
- 30:47Speaker 13: half this morning. What's crazy to me is that they
- 30:50Speaker 13: went out and they traded Kelvin Joseph, which I thought
- 30:52Speaker 13: they should have done about two years ago to Miami
- 30:55Speaker 13: for a first round pick in Noah I, which is
- 30:58Speaker 13: what Stephen called him this morning, So I will I
- 31:00Speaker 13: can't say his last name yet, but Noah has the block.
- 31:03Speaker 13: Hunt returns it for fifty something yards in the first
- 31:06Speaker 13: touchdown of the game, exactly how the Cowboys have scripted it.
- 31:10Speaker 13: And then you look at Stefan Gilmore and his role
- 31:12Speaker 13: in this defense this season. Everyone was Mike was knocking
- 31:16Speaker 13: Micah Parsons when he was talking about how good this
- 31:19Speaker 13: defense can be and making bold proclamations that this is
- 31:23Speaker 13: a throwback championship level defense. I think you've put.
- 31:28Speaker 10: Some pretty good body of work there. I mean, we
- 31:30Speaker 10: go down here. Look, seven sacks is all you need
- 31:32Speaker 10: to know.
- 31:33Speaker 13: They had eight passes defended, three by Stepan Gilmore alone,
- 31:36Speaker 13: and eleven quarterback kits.
- 31:37Speaker 10: They were absolutely relentless.
- 31:40Speaker 13: And you know, I texted Sean O'Hara before the show
- 31:43Speaker 13: and Battlin Burke both cover the Giants very, very effectively,
- 31:47Speaker 13: and I said to both of them are the Giants
- 31:49Speaker 13: really that bad? And Sean said, they're not that bad,
- 31:54Speaker 13: but Dallas looked that good. I mean Micah Parsons being
- 31:57Speaker 13: able to have him as the chess piece and move
- 31:59Speaker 13: him all all over the field. I think he can
- 32:01Speaker 13: just literally go to Jerry Jones this offseason and say
- 32:05Speaker 13: write the check.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I like Jay picking up on our foule of the
- 32:09Speaker 1: money theme right here that we've had, because yes, he
- 32:12Speaker 1: is going to have to write that check.
- 32:14Speaker 2: For Michael Parsons.
- 32:16Speaker 1: And look, Jane, as we know to the Cowboys have
- 32:18Speaker 1: led the NFL takeaways the past two years, or the
- 32:20Speaker 1: fact that this defense is so good is really no
- 32:23Speaker 1: surprise if you could quickly the depth that they have
- 32:27Speaker 1: because you see someone like safety Marquise Bell who comes
- 32:30Speaker 1: and has a type of game that he has. He's
- 32:32Speaker 1: a rotational safety and undrafted player that they got to
- 32:36Speaker 1: the Florida A and M last year. The way that
- 32:38Speaker 1: they are able to develop some of these guys to
- 32:41Speaker 1: add to what they have talent wise on defense, I
- 32:44Speaker 1: think is something that's gone unnoticed a little bit.
- 32:48Speaker 10: Well, it's the position flex right.
- 32:50Speaker 13: I love that you brought that up about Marquise Bell
- 32:53Speaker 13: and then look at some of these other guys that
- 32:55Speaker 13: they've moved around the field. I mean Micah Parsons when
- 32:57Speaker 13: he just put his hand up and said I can
- 33:00Speaker 13: rush to the passer. No disrespect to Mike Nolan, but
- 33:03Speaker 13: Mike Nolan was the defensive coordinator that first year. I
- 33:06Speaker 13: would submit that Mike Nolan and a lot of defensive
- 33:09Speaker 13: coordinators wouldn't have let a rookie like Micah Parson's step
- 33:13Speaker 13: up to the plate and try.
- 33:14Speaker 10: So that's not me trashing Mike Nolan.
- 33:16Speaker 13: I think there's a lot of people that wouldn't have
- 33:18Speaker 13: the creativity that Dan Quinn has had, and a lot
- 33:20Speaker 13: of people said, well, why isn't he a head coach.
- 33:23Speaker 13: Yet I think that that's going to be there for
- 33:26Speaker 13: him after you look at what they've been able to
- 33:28Speaker 13: do this defense from that first year with Mike McCarthy
- 33:30Speaker 13: to what they've built in these last couple of years.
- 33:32Speaker 13: But I think Dan is really enjoying himself. When you
- 33:35Speaker 13: talk to these players, even offensive players, it was Dan.
- 33:38Speaker 13: It was Dak Prescott last year and told me the
- 33:40Speaker 13: way they communicate with Aiden Dirty, the defensive line coach,
- 33:43Speaker 13: the way they communicate with Dan Quinn there's not really
- 33:46Speaker 13: a separation in these rooms. It's very lockstep, and you
- 33:50Speaker 13: know you hear it from It was Jordan Lewis who
- 33:52Speaker 13: got injured, the cornerback, and he talked about how he
- 33:55Speaker 13: was really dealing with his mental health and he wasn't
- 33:57Speaker 13: returning text messages.
- 33:58Speaker 10: Well, guess who showed up at his door, dan Quinn.
- 34:01Speaker 13: These guys all truly feel like he loves them and
- 34:04Speaker 13: that he supports them, and he puts them in positions
- 34:07Speaker 13: succeed and you see that swagger and that dedication. I mean,
- 34:10Speaker 13: I've had guys tell me the reason why they play
- 34:12Speaker 13: so hard, not isn't necessarily for themselves, is because they
- 34:15Speaker 13: don't want to let dan Quinn and Aiden dirty down.
- 34:17Speaker 10: And I think that's huge.
- 34:21Speaker 3: I think it's massive. I think it's massive, and you
- 34:23Speaker 3: know the cowboys inside and out, Jane. But what I
- 34:25Speaker 3: also want to talk about is the game you were
- 34:27Speaker 3: at between Titans and Saints. And I want to get
- 34:31Speaker 3: right to the point because this is what you wanted
- 34:33Speaker 3: to talk about. Is it time to move on from
- 34:36Speaker 3: Ryan Tannehill from what you saw in just week one
- 34:40Speaker 3: from the Tennessee Titans.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Put y'all you.
- 34:44Speaker 13: Got's go back to twenty twelve when he came into
- 34:46Speaker 13: the league. It was his statistically his worst start. Now
- 34:50Speaker 13: I was asking questions this morning, is Tannehill's still the guy?
- 34:52Speaker 13: The answer is yes, but they are as confused as
- 34:55Speaker 13: probably Tannehill is. After this game, he had what three interceptions?
- 35:00Speaker 10: Was it three interceptions? I can't keep up with last night?
- 35:02Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, yeah, the three interceptions he probably could have
- 35:07Speaker 13: had more. Derek Carr I think had four finished the
- 35:10Speaker 13: game with three hundred and five yards. Now, they didn't
- 35:13Speaker 13: get a touchdown either team until late in the third quarter.
- 35:16Speaker 13: Rashid Shaheed, which a lot of guys people aren't familiar
- 35:20Speaker 13: with him, but right before the fourth quarter they will
- 35:23Speaker 13: to score. Both defenses played really, really well, But I
- 35:25Speaker 13: thought Tannehill just he looked a little lost out there.
- 35:29Speaker 13: And this might be the fact that they've got a
- 35:31Speaker 13: lot of issues at their offensive line guys heading into
- 35:34Speaker 13: this one. The best offensive lineman they had on that
- 35:36Speaker 13: league was one of their rookies, and so maybe he's
- 35:39Speaker 13: just knocking some of the rust off from last year
- 35:42Speaker 13: when he was injured. I think we probably need a
- 35:44Speaker 13: bigger sample size, But for me, the riding's on the Wall.
- 35:47Speaker 13: When you trade up in the second round to go
- 35:49Speaker 13: and get a new quarterback, it's essentially telling you that
- 35:51Speaker 13: Ryan Tannehill, who's in the last year of his contract,
- 35:54Speaker 13: will likely not be back next season.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Jee, and that's part of we can't make any
- 35:58Speaker 2: judgment after Week one. I'm glad you pointed out about
- 36:00Speaker 2: the offensive line.
- 36:01Speaker 1: They've got four new guys in there, four guys who've
- 36:04Speaker 1: moved around a little bit some type of combination of that,
- 36:07Speaker 1: and he didn't play much in the preseason, so again,
- 36:10Speaker 1: this is just just something we have to see.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Plus, they're playing a good Saints defense.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I mean, the Saints defense has been top five in
- 36:16Speaker 1: almost every major statistical category of about the past five
- 36:18Speaker 1: or six seasons.
- 36:20Speaker 2: But Tannehill did not look good.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Well, that was a veteran quarterback who took the l
- 36:26Speaker 1: in Week one, and coming up after the break, we're
- 36:30Speaker 1: gonna talk about the three rookie quarterbacks who all went out.
- 36:34Speaker 2: On a losing note here on the NFL Report.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Our back to the NFL Report now, James Palmer and
- 36:52Speaker 1: I are joined by Jeff Chadea from NFL dot Com.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Jeff just wrote his first read column and Jeff, you know,
- 36:59Speaker 1: we know half the team teams in the NFL are
- 37:00Speaker 1: gonna lose.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Here in Week one, all three rookie.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Quarterbacks took the l Let's start with Bryce Young, whose
- 37:09Speaker 1: Panthers lost to the Carolina Panthers. From what you saw
- 37:13Speaker 1: out of that performance, what's your takeaway?
- 37:17Speaker 14: Well, look, it's always tough to be a rookie quarterback
- 37:19Speaker 14: making your season opening debut. But he had some tough
- 37:23Speaker 14: things going for him. Adam Thielen was banged up, DJ
- 37:26Speaker 14: Sharp was banged up. You know you're going into a
- 37:29Speaker 14: place playing against Atlanta Felca's defense. He has got some
- 37:32Speaker 14: pretty good players on the back end. You saw Jesse
- 37:34Speaker 14: Bates have a huge game against them with ten tackles
- 37:37Speaker 14: and two interceptions in the forest fumbles. So I don't
- 37:40Speaker 14: really put too much on it. I was in Carolina
- 37:43Speaker 14: this offseason talking to them about his growth and his development.
- 37:48Speaker 14: He's got great people around there with Frank Reich and
- 37:50Speaker 14: Josh McCown, Andy Dalton.
- 37:52Speaker 3: He's gonna be fine. But yeah, it's numbers wise.
- 37:54Speaker 14: I wasn't surprised by what he did because he was
- 37:56Speaker 14: down some serious weapons.
- 38:00Speaker 3: He definitely was, and that impacted them, right. Jeff of
- 38:02Speaker 3: pushing the football down the field. That was a big
- 38:04Speaker 3: problem with them, and Frank Reich talked about a Monday morning,
- 38:06Speaker 3: we got to find a way to get some explosive plays.
- 38:09Speaker 3: To me, what stands out most is what Jesse Bates
- 38:11Speaker 3: Steve said after the game about the both of his picks.
- 38:14Speaker 3: They were essentially the same play. They were almost the
- 38:16Speaker 3: exact same spot on the field on the hash mark
- 38:18Speaker 3: about fourteen yards and afterwards Bryce Young saying I didn't
- 38:22Speaker 3: assume he was gonna be there. I think he's learning
- 38:25Speaker 3: about some of these veteran players and the work that
- 38:27Speaker 3: they put in during the week about knowing where they
- 38:30Speaker 3: should be and reading you a little bit. To me,
- 38:32Speaker 3: those two picks might do wonders for him and his
- 38:36Speaker 3: growth like that because of the way Bryce Young learns.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and you think about it, Bryce Young did not
- 38:40Speaker 1: play that poorly. The Panthers did not play that poorly.
- 38:42Speaker 1: This was just a game where they were negative three
- 38:44Speaker 1: in the turnover department, two picks and Miles Sanders had
- 38:47Speaker 1: a fumble. Because you look at them statistically otherwise and
- 38:50Speaker 1: everything else, they should have beat the Atlanta Falcons, And
- 38:55Speaker 1: actually watching that game, you have to honestly, ask yourself
- 38:58Speaker 1: the question, Bryce Young or Desmond Ritter, whose hands do
- 39:04Speaker 1: you think you feel safer in? All right, Jeff, let's
- 39:08Speaker 1: go on to the Houston Texans. They got Mollywap by
- 39:11Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens.
- 39:12Speaker 3: CJ.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Stroud took an l He was asked to throw the
- 39:16Speaker 1: ball forty four times. That is never ideal for a rookie.
- 39:23Speaker 14: What's never ideal if you're not going to block very well? Right,
- 39:26Speaker 14: I mean those numbers don't bother me as much as
- 39:28Speaker 14: the five sacks of the.
- 39:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 39:32Speaker 14: I mean, if that's gonna be your game plan, you
- 39:34Speaker 14: better get your offensive line right. So again, I watched
- 39:38Speaker 14: that game against the Ravens, and it was it was
- 39:41Speaker 14: hard to watch at times because you didn't have a
- 39:42Speaker 14: lot of time to throw another guy who's trying to
- 39:45Speaker 14: figure out how to attack NFL defenses. Mike McDonald was
- 39:48Speaker 14: a great job mixing up coverages with the Ravens. So yeah,
- 39:51Speaker 14: it was not a great combination. A lot of pass attempts,
- 39:53Speaker 14: not much blocking.
- 39:57Speaker 3: We thought he had good tackles. Titus Howard's on the I.
- 40:00Speaker 3: They lose George Fan. They've moved guys around in front
- 40:02Speaker 3: of them all over the place. They're struggling protecting them.
- 40:04Speaker 3: What jumped out at me was he was praised so
- 40:07Speaker 3: much Steve during the offseason about how good he was
- 40:09Speaker 3: in the operation within the huddle with getting everybody lined up.
- 40:13Speaker 3: That was something that did not impress Tamiko Ryans at
- 40:16Speaker 3: all in his first NFL start. And that's one aspect
- 40:19Speaker 3: that maybe it's the lights are a little big, it's
- 40:21Speaker 3: the first game. Because he thrived during the preseason with that,
- 40:24Speaker 3: struggled with it in his first start. Got to clean
- 40:26Speaker 3: that up.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's again that's the learning curve.
- 40:29Speaker 1: But the other thing is compared to the other quarterback,
- 40:32Speaker 1: it really wasn't a total disaster.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson in a new system.
- 40:35Speaker 1: You can see the Ravens too, It's gonna take them
- 40:37Speaker 1: a while to absolutely get going there. But Stroud, you know, again,
- 40:41Speaker 1: he's got some he's got some lesser.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Things to work with. None of this was a surprise.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We expected the Ravens to go out to get the
- 40:46Speaker 1: early lead, forced him to throw the ball a lot,
- 40:49Speaker 1: and that put him kind of in that one dimensional
- 40:52Speaker 1: system that you don't want any quarterback, let alone a
- 40:55Speaker 1: rookie in Anthony Richardson Jeff Anthony Richardson, as JP pointed
- 41:02Speaker 1: out to me earlier off camera, who had the least
- 41:04Speaker 1: experience coming in. He looked pretty damn good in his debut.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Not perfect, but he showed more than a few splashes.
- 41:14Speaker 14: He was the biggest surprise of the three because he
- 41:16Speaker 14: was the guy you thought was going to play the worst,
- 41:18Speaker 14: given the amount of experience he had, the way he
- 41:21Speaker 14: looked early in the preseason, and they had a good
- 41:24Speaker 14: game plan for him. They weren't throwing the ball down
- 41:26Speaker 14: the field a whole lot, but it was safe passes,
- 41:28Speaker 14: it was short passes, let some guys run for the catch.
- 41:31Speaker 14: Michael Pittman may had had a huge play for him
- 41:33Speaker 14: on a short pass taken into the house. So I
- 41:36Speaker 14: thought he was in a really good place. And I
- 41:38Speaker 14: know Trevor Lawrence talked to a match with the game
- 41:40Speaker 14: about being mindful of his body and not taking the
- 41:42Speaker 14: big hits. But if I'm Shane Stiking, I feel like
- 41:46Speaker 14: for Game one, with the amount of experiences quarterback had James,
- 41:49Speaker 14: he really came out and did a pretty decent job.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not a knock to either one of the
- 41:55Speaker 3: other two because I also thought early in the game
- 41:57Speaker 3: c J. Stroud did not put the ball in bad position.
- 42:00Speaker 3: He actually maybe could have thrown a couple away, but
- 42:02Speaker 3: didn't turn the football over early, which was a positive.
- 42:05Speaker 3: But in terms of comfortable, he looked the most comfortable
- 42:08Speaker 3: out of anybody. And I'd like to give Shane steike
- 42:10Speaker 3: In a little credit. I think this is Shane Stiken
- 42:12Speaker 3: once again working with a young quarterback and deserves some
- 42:15Speaker 3: credit and getting Anthony Richardson ready with just a handful
- 42:18Speaker 3: of starts. I think it's a couple more than I
- 42:20Speaker 3: got fingers at the college level. And he goes out
- 42:23Speaker 3: there and plays in a very comfortable manner in the
- 42:25Speaker 3: pocket Steve, and you're lacking your best player on offense
- 42:29Speaker 3: and Jonathan Taylor, so I have to give him some credit.
- 42:32Speaker 3: And how he went out there and played.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want to have Anthony Richardson being your
- 42:36Speaker 1: leading rusher too many times like we saw yesterday, especially
- 42:39Speaker 1: when he took that big hit guys one quarterback who's
- 42:43Speaker 1: not a rookie, but he was making one of his
- 42:45Speaker 1: first few stars Jordan Love.
- 42:47Speaker 2: I mean the transference of Bears ownership.
- 42:50Speaker 1: In Green Bay from Aaron Rodgers now to Jordan Love, Jeff,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I mean, we heard for the first two years of
- 42:56Speaker 1: his career, all three of us, that maybe this guy
- 43:00Speaker 1: he wasn't gonna get it. He sure as hell looked
- 43:03Speaker 1: like he knew what he was doing out there against
- 43:06Speaker 1: the Bears in the Week one.
- 43:09Speaker 14: And there's a reason why Brian Gudikins, the Packers, GM,
- 43:11Speaker 14: and Matt Lafleur were super excited about his performance after
- 43:15Speaker 14: this game because, again James mentioned it with Anthony Richardson,
- 43:18Speaker 14: the comfort level was just there. He felt like a
- 43:21Speaker 14: player who wasn't out there trying to prove that he
- 43:23Speaker 14: could succeed Aaron Rodgers would do Aaron Rodgers type stuff.
- 43:27Speaker 3: He was playing his game.
- 43:29Speaker 14: He was spreading the football around and you didn't really
- 43:31Speaker 14: see I think that was the big thing I wanted
- 43:33Speaker 14: to see was how much would Matt Leffleur really be
- 43:36Speaker 14: able to do with a quarterback who wanted to embrace
- 43:38Speaker 14: his philosophies and his play calling. And that was the
- 43:40Speaker 14: great thing about this. You saw the marriage there, he
- 43:43Speaker 14: saw the development, you saw the maturity. And I agree
- 43:46Speaker 14: James that Jordan Love was one of the best quarterbacks
- 43:48Speaker 14: of the weekend.
- 43:51Speaker 3: He really I think at the highest passer rating of
- 43:53Speaker 3: the entire weekend. And oh yeah, Christian Watson didn't play
- 43:56Speaker 3: in this game either, and I think they didn't ask
- 43:58Speaker 3: him to do too much, but what they asked him
- 44:00Speaker 3: to do, he was very, very good at it. And
- 44:02Speaker 3: I think the interesting part about it is it was
- 44:04Speaker 3: another miserable day in Chicago, probably on a Monday, thinking
- 44:09Speaker 3: are we at this again with the third straight guy
- 44:11Speaker 3: at quarterback for the Green Bay Packers that is going
- 44:14Speaker 3: to apparently own our team and own our city. Appreciate it, Jeff,
- 44:17Speaker 3: We're going to close out the show. Steve and I
- 44:20Speaker 3: will talk about the games that we were at and
- 44:22Speaker 3: maybe a couple of things we heard in the hallways.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Stay with us.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Were back at the NFL report GP.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I was just checking my email and it looks like
- 44:41Speaker 1: Ian and Pella Cerio just dropped the little nugget that
- 44:44Speaker 1: Cam Hayward of the Steelers is going to miss multiple
- 44:47Speaker 1: games in multiple weeks with a groin injury. That is
- 44:50Speaker 1: a huge blow for that Steelers defensive line, especially after
- 44:54Speaker 1: some of the things that happened yesterday. But JP, you
- 44:57Speaker 1: know one thing that's cool about us being at games,
- 44:59Speaker 1: We get conversation guys on the parking lot, halways, things
- 45:04Speaker 1: like that. And after the Eagles Patriots game, where you
- 45:07Speaker 1: were yesterday, you had some really cool conversation.
- 45:13Speaker 3: You know, that's the best. That's what I miss most
- 45:15Speaker 3: when the offseason happens, right, Steve is not being around
- 45:17Speaker 3: these guys after games and getting the intel and the
- 45:20Speaker 3: insight about what happened and why it happened. And it
- 45:24Speaker 3: was an interesting game for the Philadelphia Eagles. You know,
- 45:27Speaker 3: they come so close, a couple of plays away from
- 45:29Speaker 3: winning a Super Bowl and then they come out in
- 45:31Speaker 3: this game. Obviously the weather impacted their play calling early on,
- 45:35Speaker 3: but offensively, all eyes were on offensive coordinator Brian Johnson
- 45:39Speaker 3: call him plays for the very first time in the NFL.
- 45:42Speaker 3: I had a chance to walk out of the stadium
- 45:44Speaker 3: with Brian, who I've known, I think since he was
- 45:46Speaker 3: the quarterback back at Utah when I was covering the
- 45:48Speaker 3: Mountain West Conference. No big deal, and you know it
- 45:52Speaker 3: was it was it right. I had to drop, I
- 45:54Speaker 3: had to drop the youths. And it was interesting to
- 45:56Speaker 3: talk to Brian because he wasn't overwhelmed by any means
- 45:59Speaker 3: about what happened. People might have thought that the offense
- 46:01Speaker 3: was a little out of sorts in a sense. We
- 46:04Speaker 3: know how good of a play caller Shane Stikeen was
- 46:06Speaker 3: a year ago. We know that Dallas Goddard really did
- 46:08Speaker 3: not get a catch. He had one target, DeAndre Swift
- 46:10Speaker 3: barely touched the football, and there were some questions there.
- 46:14Speaker 3: But he did say, like, the reason that we struggled
- 46:17Speaker 3: a little bit offensively, it wasn't because of my play calling,
- 46:20Speaker 3: working with Jalen or working with you know, this offense.
- 46:23Speaker 3: It's that this Patriots defense is really good. He's like,
- 46:27Speaker 3: this is going to be a top five group in
- 46:30Speaker 3: the league this year, and they gave them a ton
- 46:32Speaker 3: of trouble. Talked to Devonte Smith in the locker room.
- 46:35Speaker 3: He told me, I don't know who they were focusing on.
- 46:37Speaker 3: I couldn't really tell. They were disguising everything so much.
- 46:39Speaker 3: I thought were they taking away Dallas Goddard. He goes,
- 46:42Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know what they were doing.
- 46:43Speaker 3: So if that's not a compliment to Bill Belichick when
- 46:46Speaker 3: players on the field don't really know who his defense
- 46:49Speaker 3: is trying to take away. That defensive front played really
- 46:51Speaker 3: well against the good Eagles offensive line. I think the
- 46:54Speaker 3: Eagles were a little surprised about where they played offensively,
- 46:58Speaker 3: and that's why the coolest part of its steam was
- 47:00Speaker 3: to watch Jason Kelcey still full uniform, Jalen Hurts, and
- 47:04Speaker 3: Brian Johnson in a corner of the locker room just
- 47:07Speaker 3: talking about what they thought they did well and didn't
- 47:10Speaker 3: do well. That's how much it matters to these guys
- 47:12Speaker 3: that kind of run this ship for them. Jason Kelsey
- 47:15Speaker 3: is still in full uniform for twenty minutes talking to
- 47:17Speaker 3: his offense coordinator and his quarterback. Is a pretty cool
- 47:19Speaker 3: site in the locker room trying to figure out how
- 47:21Speaker 3: they improve because they had a short week with a
- 47:23Speaker 3: game on Thursday.
- 47:24Speaker 1: And you better believe other teams are gonna do it.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I mean, that's what teams do. Hey, this work to
- 47:27Speaker 1: stifle what the Eagles like to do. We are going
- 47:29Speaker 1: to try to implement some of that with our personnel.
- 47:32Speaker 1: What was really cool after Tyreek Hill caught eleventh passed
- 47:36Speaker 1: for two hundred and fifteen yards into a tongue biloo
- 47:38Speaker 1: through for four hundred and sixty six yards, including the
- 47:41Speaker 1: game winner in the final moments to Tyreek Hill against
- 47:45Speaker 1: the Chargers was Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel, the head
- 47:48Speaker 1: coach of the Dolphins. They said, the thing that is
- 47:50Speaker 1: different about this offense this year, especially Tyreek Hill and Tua,
- 47:55Speaker 1: is that Dan Marino in the offseason went up to
- 47:58Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill they were at some place and he said, look,
- 48:00Speaker 1: you guys, you know you're you're really good.
- 48:01Speaker 2: You're you're working off this and that.
- 48:04Speaker 1: But after practice, your receivers and quarterbacks need to meet
- 48:06Speaker 1: and watch film of opposing defenses. You can really understand
- 48:10Speaker 1: what some of these route concepts do against certain coverages.
- 48:14Speaker 1: And even though that sounds simple, doesn't every team do that,
- 48:17Speaker 1: not the way that the Dolphins players have done it,
- 48:19Speaker 1: to the point where Mike McDaniel said, Tyreek Hill would
- 48:22Speaker 1: have probably had half the amount of yards he had yesterday.
- 48:26Speaker 1: What's that I'd guess about one hundred and sixty close
- 48:28Speaker 1: to it yesterday. Had he not, I don't know, and
- 48:32Speaker 1: maybe not quite that many. If he didn't, it's bad math,
- 48:36Speaker 1: by the way, if he didn't do.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Some of the things that they discussed in these meetings, such.
- 48:40Speaker 1: As separation, like when to actually separate, when to actually
- 48:45Speaker 1: hit a gear, when to break because that way, instead
- 48:48Speaker 1: of catching the ball and falling, are catching getting tackled
- 48:51Speaker 1: right away, you can catch and you're a yard behind
- 48:54Speaker 1: that defender with a guy who's got the speed of
- 48:56Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill and to make a play. And that's why
- 48:58Speaker 1: they were able to hit some big and that's why
- 49:01Speaker 1: we talked about.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Earlier, James.
- 49:03Speaker 1: If they're able to continue this, they are going to
- 49:06Speaker 1: be a dangerous team.
- 49:08Speaker 3: James.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I know you've got something else you want to talk about.
- 49:11Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily something that happened in the hallway. In fact,
- 49:15Speaker 1: this is something that happened on the field.
- 49:19Speaker 3: It was my favorite play of the entire weekend, and
- 49:21Speaker 3: an involved a guy that didn't even touch the football
- 49:23Speaker 3: and the Jaguars win over the Indianapolis Colts. When you
- 49:26Speaker 3: saw a touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley runs he's outside
- 49:29Speaker 3: the hash mark. You see Travis Etm there running back,
- 49:32Speaker 3: running out wide. He doesn't get the ball in the flat.
- 49:35Speaker 3: What does he do, Steve? He flies past Calvin Ridley
- 49:38Speaker 3: at like warp speed. I guess this entire deal we're
- 49:41Speaker 3: obsessed with with guys that can absolutely fly. He goes
- 49:44Speaker 3: past Ridley, lays a block, Ridley into the end zone.
- 49:47Speaker 3: My favorite thing when skilled players go out there and
- 49:49Speaker 3: get physical when they're out there, block and that wraps
- 49:52Speaker 3: up the NFL Report. Remember Steve. On Thursday, we're gonna
- 49:54Speaker 3: have Thomas Brown giving us great insight on the number
- 49:57Speaker 3: one overall pick Bryce Young, that's the offense coordinator of
- 50:00Speaker 3: the Carolina Panthers, as well as Brian Baldegger will join
- 50:03Speaker 3: us with his breakdowns.
- 50:04Speaker 2: This was the appreciate you guys, m
- 50:13Speaker 6: M hm
