- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Can't believe we've done seven of these
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that means we've watched seven movies.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, together so much.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: So technically, we are like a second base in terms of dating.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: because we've done seven.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Well, actually if you want to get technical, the first two movies that we reviewed, we did not watch it.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: You did not watch together.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: So technically we're we're we're we're we're we're we're we're approaching second.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're approaching second.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right, so just between get your hands off my man.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Who are we anyway, we have a fun show for you today.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: We got a chance to go see a new movie that just came out that we talked about last week.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think I go first on this one.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: It was your, you like the original.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: I love the original.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I loved it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so what it says here on the Google, the old Google search, someone said is the movie The Roses, a remake of The War of The Roses, which was Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, of course, which is a,
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: fabulous black comedy and the answer from AI is yes the roses is a new version or reimagining the 1989 wife is so old now Film the war the roses.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: I need to stop you.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we can call it black comedy anymore I think we have to call them dark comedies.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a theater guy, we call him black comedies.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, you know, I don't know, anyway.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, if you saw war's trying to be easy, it's a great, great comedy, either way, darker light.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great comedy.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, a couldn't have been better cast for that role along with Danny DeVito, and it was a directorial debut.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: We might have said that before, but it merits mentioning again.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Sadly, for me, this, the name comes close.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you know, I'm a huge fan, huge fan of British humor with a capital H with a capital H. And it's body, I know, body, when you go to see British humor, you get ready for, you know, Monty Python, kind of body humor.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: I just thought, I thought the writing was not up to par, no, we're near the original.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: I like Benjamin or Benedict in the title role, but I think that they
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he didn't look comfortable to me.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: The whole movie, he did not look comfortable in this role.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: And Andy Sandler, Sandler or Steadler, Sandberg, Andy Sandberg, who I'm not a huge fan of, anyway.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: I thought just kind of was lost in this movie.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: His role as the real estate attorney trying to be a divorce attorney was, well, he's also his best friend.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: Right, I understand why they did it, and even Kate McKinnon, who I love, was to me was just one, I don't think you thought she was okay, but here's my problem with the story.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you haven't touched on Olivia Coleman.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, Olivia Coleman was Olivia Coleman.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: She's pretty much plays the same character pretty much every movie.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: So she, but I think she felt, she seemed like out of her skin too with some of the dialogue.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the dialogue was just way over the top.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: The original movie had a plot, it had excellent writing, it had wonderful visual sight gags.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, to the point where three of the sight gags, I literally fell out of my chair laughing.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't any of that here.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: crude, untappacrued, untappacrued, untappacrued, in my opinion, and it didn't live up to the original by any stretch.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't even...
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were moments that were kind of funny, but there were moments that were kind of like skin-crawly.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: And, again, British humor, it's over the top most of the time.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: This movie just didn't, you know, were the roses, it just didn't have the punch that the original had.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: The, it didn't have, it didn't grab me like the original one.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of the original one, you know, people either sighting with Michael Douglas or sighting with Kathleen Turner.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I sided with Kathleen Turner.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: There were four couples.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was the only one that sided with Kathleen Turner, including the other four women.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: They all sided with Michael Douglas at the end of the movie.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: I won't give it away if you haven't seen it, but at the end of the movie, there's a moment.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: The last 13 seconds are the best part of that whole movie, pretty much.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it sums up a lot there.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I sided with Kathleen Turner.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: based on more than just those last 13 seconds, but other people's sighting with her there.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: The end of this movie, it leaves you kind of, I don't get it.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just was a really,
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, on a scale of one to ten, which we normally do, I would give this movie a four.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, a four, okay.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't give many movies a four, okay.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this movie, and I think mostly for the writing, I think the writer started to do, they started to go over the top a little bit, and then they got more and more and more.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then they kind of, I think they kind of just lost themselves in how crude can we get.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what lost it for me.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is not, I saw were the rows of seven times.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I laughed every time.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: I would not see this movie again.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: So a couple of questions for you on the whole thing.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel that because you saw war of the roses you were too busy comparing this to what war of the roses was and therefore because it didn't because your pre-conceived notion of war of the road or because you had a pre-conceived notion of the roses and you were expecting it to live up to war of the roses?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Dr. Phil, let me tell you.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: The answer to that is no, I had read the synopsis of this movie and I knew it was not going to be a sequel.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I wasn't really putting any of the original movie into this, but it was a reimagining of this as was what there was another movie that just came out that was a reimagining too.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that one worked, that movie worked, you know?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think last week I think I said that this was supposed to be a continuation, and I don't I did too.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was reading the wrong information.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I also said that I thought there'd be a cameo by Douglas and Turner, and there was an obviously because this movie was so far away.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean subliminally maybe I think afterwards I was comparing, after we're during the movie,
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was just trying to enjoy it for for the merits of the movie, but I didn't see any merits in the movie So I think the other thing too that I have questions for you is that Are you trying to say that it was British humor because the lead actors were British because no one else in the movie is British?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think the writing.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think the writing is just that that body British humor that Monty Python and those guys get away with
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I will disagree with you on the writing for it being the body british stuff.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think I will agree with you that this missed the mark totally, absolutely.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel that
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: I actually, to be honest with you, Tony McNamara is Australian, so that could be also the other issue.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: Tony McNamara is the one who did the screenplay for this version, shall we say, and that's just it.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: It is a reimagining.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: So what they did is they took the book and then they basically just upgraded it today.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: part of the reason why I might have missed a mark for some people is because of the fact that if you saw war the roses you were kind of expecting it to be that you weren't expecting it to be something brand new and whatever and your expectations of it probably put it to a different level.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: My problem with the movie is it triggered me?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it triggered me really bad because there's a part in the movie where they literally just bash each other with words about how horrible they are.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: And unfortunately, I have experiences like that in my life.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: thought I was healed from them, but maybe I'm not because this movie literally triggered me and I left going, yeah, I don't ever need to be in the middle of that situation ever again.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was at the beginning.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: No, the bashing that I was referring to is towards the end when they were at the dinner table.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: That and then that at the beginning.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they did it a little bit at the beginning, but it wasn't as bad.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: When it got to the dinner table scene like towards the end of the movie and then everything that happened after that, that's when
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: and I was just kind of like, okay, so now I do need to preface all this by saying, I have not seen the original, right?
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And after seeing the roses, I don't know if I want to see.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: No, you should.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: You should.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you should see the original and you will probably come away with a lot of the same feelings I had.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Quite possibly.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be something that I'm going to like rush to.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: I would expect you to have it watched by this evening and report written tomorrow.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, you're not my English teacher, so you can go fly kite.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, I'm sure trying to be to hack to fill with me.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was just curious because like you were saying things and you were like, well, I was expecting you, I thought this and I thought this and I thought that and I was kind of like, you were comparing it to money python.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's no comparison to the weight of money python on this movie whatsoever and but it was a pre-conceived notion going into it then I was, even me, I was like,
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm expecting British humor to a point, but then because the movie was set in America, you have to kind of minimalize all that.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what the film tried to do, and then towards the end of it, it just blew up.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, like you have said, and like I have said,
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting casting.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Kate McKinnon was creepy as always.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean that's that's all I've ever seen her play.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: If somebody who's creepy even in SNL when she was on that a lot of her SNL characters just totally creepy and they work and I think in this aspect I think she worked.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: She brought the creepiness that she needed to bring but she's always creepy.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Andy Sandberg, he's that I want to make everybody happy kind of guy and that's like what he does.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, better to come up and it's great in the movie.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a great actor Olivia Coleman.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think the chemistry between the two of them was really good.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I do agree that they were probably a little unsettled.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: in the the the the roll maybe they were I don't know this is a this is a far grab here but maybe they were struggling with their own personal issues and that's was me and that uncomfortableness came out through their portrayal I don't know either way I would also give this like a five um I just it
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of those movies that I was like, eh, I hate to say this, but I'm glad I saw it for five bucks.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a five hour movie because you're a little less.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because if I were to play full price for this, I'd have been like, yeah, no, no, thank you.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, go see it if you're interested in it.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Wait till it comes on on video or streaming.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's probably your better bet and then don't expect too much of it and I think you're gonna be okay.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, speaking of speaking of not expecting too much.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's much to expect as far as releases are concerned this week.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: No, new releases that is unless you're a big fan of the conjuring the conjuring last rights comes out to me.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Do we really need another conjuring movie?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we do.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: The Baltimore Ones looks kind of interesting.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's set for a small release, so it may not necessarily be in some of your areas.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: You have to check your local listings and things of that nature for that.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: It could be funny.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's talking about a guy who cracked his tooth on Christmas Eve, and then he becomes sober and he barks on adventure through Baltimore with his
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: emergency dentist.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't grab me.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: If it grabs you, then hey, you know what?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: You're that's your cup of tea.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Also coming out this week, the twin list, the threesome, which is exactly what you expected to be.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: It is about a threesome.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then last but not least, Hamilton, which, I mean, if you haven't seen Hamilton like performed live yet, I guess you'll go see this.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if they're trying to capture in on the whole like wicked thing and maybe I have to
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: But it's going to literally be like a recording of the Broadway show.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: So you'll have the original cast, which is great, but I feel like that's already available.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: And like I feel like that was available on Disney Plus.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: A couple months ago.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, with all that being said, there is a new release that's coming out to Apple TV.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was in theaters a couple weeks ago, and then I don't know if it actually got released or if they just decided to put it on an Apple TV.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: Which stars Denzel Washington will probably talk about some other movies that Denzel was in as well Maybe do a little comparison there, but my the reason why I'm intrigued by this movie is it's a Spike Lee joint Yeah, he isn't anything in a while and kids.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's not what you think it is He always calls his movie a Spike Lee joint and that's because he collaborates with a bunch of people I'm looking forward to this because I love Spike Lee since like forever
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, all the way back to his very first movie.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think everything he's done has just been awesome and he has been around for a while, like you said.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a return for him.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to it.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: And Denzel, I mean.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I can't think of a bad movie.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Denzel made a lot of time, man on fire, devil with a blue dress.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's done so many great action movies and then he did Philadelphia.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: You forgot training day.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Come on now.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: I like training day, I want to break favorite as you know what, what's not my favorite movie of his is I did not care for the remake of Magnificent 7 at all.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, interesting, that's a debate that we can have because I actually want to talk when we get to lessons.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: We'll debate that.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm looking forward, I've watched all three equalizers.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: If you have any equalizer movies, and we reviewed nobody too, equalizers is sort of along that same kind of genre, regular guy who's badass, and there's three of them.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a, in two, in equalizer two, there's a really cool scene,
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: where he is a lift driver is what he does.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: And but he's a bad ass like Uber like a Uber.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, God, and he goes to these young guys apartments who are doing something.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's a great and at the end, he tells the one kid who's less standing basically.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: He says, now, you're going to give me a five.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then he gets back in his Uber, and you know, you get the message on your phone and it says five stars.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: So if this is anything like those, and I can't imagine it wouldn't be, you know, again, he was also one of one of my all-time five time top favorite movies, Crimson Tide, with Gene Hackman.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: So you can't go wrong with Denzel.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: So high soloist is about a music producer DJ kind of transferring in his life or a look at his life so to speak so I don't know if we're going to get an equalizer moments out of it, but I think we're going to get some spike least off and that's really what I'm looking forward to.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that'll be the review from the kid that is daughter or something and so I think he's got to go get her and I think there's some.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I don't know I'm going to be equalizer worthy or you know that that level, but I think there's some bad ass moments It's a ransom plot.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I mean it could be and that would be Spike Lee kind of going out of his element so to speak to so there's something else to kind of look out for as well too much
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, high as a low as we'll review it next week on the podcast and of course Son of Bol TV It's on Apple TV.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so not a theaters if you don't have it.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know if it came out It there's it was so a couple of weeks ago.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about it.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: It was in it was at back on August 14th It was part of the release information we gave out
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I never saw it like when I was looking through movies and stuff like that like at the shows like the showtime thing, you know Like fan-dango, there's your free plug by the way It wasn't listed in there and then I saw it up on an Apple TV and I was like, oh, maybe it's supposed to be an Apple TV really So I'm not exactly sure what happened.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the back details behind it I just know that it is going to be released on Apple TV this Friday.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's so tomorrow And then we'll take a look at it at some point and
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thursday.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of things to talk about every episode, we always try to highlight a special segment, if you will.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Last week we talked about our favorite sci-fi movies.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're continuing the trend.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go through our favorite movies for a while here just to kind of give you an idea and overview of what we like.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think we're going to get into some more serious topics we've talked about, you know, miss castings or wrong castings.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think we'll throw those in there a little bit later and we'll kind of dive into maybe we'll do like movie comparisons
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: movie trivia movie or maybe a movie war thing kind of thing we'll see I don't know it'll all flesh itself out of course but let's flesh out the adventure flicks so we'll give you why don't you do your runner up for your favorite adventure movie about time best adventure film
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many, I love adventure movies, and I love old adventure movies better than new ones, most of the time, but I think the, I would say pretty much the whole pirates of the Caribbean series would be my runners-up.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: for adventure movie.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think they keep you on the edge of your seat.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: Johnny Depp, nobody could have played, prepared better than him.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's just cast wonderfully.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: And the just the visual scenes that I had the whole thing is, you know, the crack in and everything is just, it's just, I mean, come on.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going to venture after another.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: You're taking all three movies and you're slamming them into one.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm taking the series saying
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: see why in a second.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right so yeah I like the first one of course the second was great.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think the third one kind of started to fall off a little bit for me and I don't think I saw anything after that if there was a fourth movie I don't remember.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was a trilogy but I by the second one I was like okay this is yeah
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: more of the same.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: So to speak.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: So okay, not a bad pick.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Run her up for me.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I went back to my childhood, a movie that features a rather interesting looking individual in a Superman T-shirt and suspenders.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Some really old nasty crooks trying to steal treasure off a pirate ship.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: and the Truffle shuffle.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, of course, for me, runner up, adventure movie of all time, the Goonies, no argument there, you cannot argue that at all, it's a great flick, especially if you grew up in that era, there's so many great actors from that show or from that movie that went on to have great careers as well.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think even like a young Josh Brolin is a movie if I remember correctly, too.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's got a pretty good guess.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a fun, fun movie.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't seen it, watch it, there's even a cool board game out there as well that you kind of get in the middle of it as well.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's fun to play as well.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: So that's fun.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's fun.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't, you know, and I wouldn't put it on a like a top 10.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a good movie.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you grew up in, if I think you for an 80s kid, you probably would see the where it's nostalgic for us.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was like the greatest part movie of all time at that point.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: The only other movie that came out that was close to it was hook.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: at that point and we hadn't like for me I hadn't seen like Earl Flynn and some of the older movies and things of that nature so it was the movie that came out at that point and literally I think the only thing at that time that we could have compared it to would have been Peter Pan like the Disney animated thing there wasn't anything else that I can remember that kind of hit the mark so goodies is my run runer up for me of best adventure movie of all time what is your best adventure movie of all time?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first of all, there have been five pirates to the Caribbean, there have been five.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest at Worlds in, on Stranger Tides, Dead Men, Town, No Tales, and there is a, there's rumbleings of a, of a six, but those are the five.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite all-time, Barna and no argument can convince me otherwise, and you might
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: The original robbers, God, they made that in the 40s or 50s.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you watched it today, it, by far, overshadows every other Robin Hood movie ever made.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: The only close one is Robin Hood men and tights.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously that's a sarcastic parody.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: But nothing comes, I mean, I could, I probably seen it at 20, 30 times.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: only when he stays in character and keeps the answer, which of course is the line from Robin Hood men and tights that Carrie Eul says when Richard Lewis says playing King Johnson's and why will the people follow you?
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: He says because unlike other Robinhoods, I can speak with an authentic English accent and the crowd goes, ooh, that's perfect, I've watched all the Robin Hood movies.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Here's my second, just, that's my Robin Hood, Ventures Robin Hood, what about that one?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: What about that one that came out like four or five years ago that is too dark?
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know what friendship is too dark.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: But a second runner up to that is a very, you probably haven't ever even heard of it.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: You like Sean Connery?
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, like Sean Connery, you like Audrey Hepburn?
- 22:55[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're in a movie together called Marion and Robin.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I have heard of that movie.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great sequel to the original Robin Hood.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's the only other Robin Hood movie that can even come close to the original in my opinion.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I accidentally started watching it and got hooked.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: on that movie.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: They took the original love story and made this adventure movie with the love story, still intact.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: And whoever came up with the idea wrote it and directed it brilliant.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I couldn't tell you who they are, but I know who the main characters are.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I, uh,
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Robin Hood.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Number one.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: So we have a flip flop here.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: You for your runners up, you picked a trilogy for my best of all time adventure series.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: I have picked a trilogy as well.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: Although some people will say it's technically not a trilogy because the way it was written,
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: The story goes on from there, but I'm gonna disagree with you.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: Tolkien was probably rolling over his grave by anybody that says anything of that nature anyways.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: I grew up with the cartoons way back and I think they were from like the 70s, the late 70s, early 80s.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: So if I fell in love with this, I read the books, it was just the thing for me.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm nerding out here because of all the other fantasy stuff that I love, I love rolling D20s, that's nerdy enough.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, Lord of the Rings, all three of those movies, some people say they're incredibly long and incredibly boring.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: I get it I understand it, but you know what if you have watched Any of the game of thrones at all any of those series even if you just watch like the first season or if you didn't watch the whole thing
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Lord of the Rings is the reason we have all of this other stuff.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Tolkien, absolutely brilliant in his writing.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: The novels are wonderful.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't read them, give yourself a chance to read them.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're amazing.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: But this is really where the fantasy world really expanded from Lord of the Rings.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: The Hobbit as well.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Those movies are Hobbits to first one.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yes, but technically.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: the story evolves from there, and that's what the Lord of the Rings is all about.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, that's why I said, some people will be like, well, it's technically out of order, and this kind of stuff, and everything, but I agree with you.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then Jack said, of course, great directing all across the board.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think they filmed it in like three years straight, that's all they did.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: So they really, I think they honestly set the standard for the way sequels should be filmed.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, especially like, like, Wicked's coming out.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: who's coming out like what end of October something like that end of September early October they filmed that all together and then they split it into to me that's the way to go because you know people age you know and they don't look like they used to and anyway I'm like a good on that route but that to me that's a great pick the greatest adventure movie of all time and it's a trilogy so all three of them jammed into one so there you go it's great pick but it's
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not gonna overwrite Robinhood.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but that's your, but that's from your generation.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I can't disagree with you, arrow Flynn and Robinhood is as a great classic film, can't argue with you, but It's the generational thing here.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's the stuff you grew up on this is stuff that I grew up on.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I played D and D when I was a kid
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: Why was all the Lord of the Rings movies and I read the books.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, in the Navy, one of the guys in our ship, we had 800 guys on our ship.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: His mother sent him the books, the Habit and the trilogy.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: And he read the Habit and then it got passed.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm guessing 85% of the guys in the ship read the Habit.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Then he got back to him like fluffy.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then he got the trilogy and then he read the first one pass it along maybe even 89%.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: By the time we got to the third book, pretty much everybody on the ship had read that book.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: And you could tell by you, look at the book.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like an inch thick.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: And by the time we were all done with it, it was like four inches thick because it gets fluffy.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: But pretty much everybody on the ship read that book read the book and it was great because you knew how to see you got them to do and you just like kind of waiting for the one guy to finish So you can get it and then you move it along So that's a good pick.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: I that's a great Navy story though I like that about how like your books get passed around stuff like that.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's really cool
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hookers too, but mostly books didn't know it's gonna escalate there and I'm that note folks Go see the threesome.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: No, anyway Everything leads to something you need a hug.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Don't you you need a hug you need a hug You need a hug and crown doctor obvious by the way
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: And we need you to save us some popcorn.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back next week and enjoy the movies.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: Enjoy the movie or television because Apple TV for Denzel.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Again, save us some popcorn and we'll see you next week.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe some cheesy popcorn.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there we go.
