- 3:07In local news.
- 3:10Spirit Airlines expands its service at Boston Logan International Airport by adding five
- 3:15new non-stop destinations this summer.
- 3:19Direct flights will now include Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh.
- 3:27This announcement follows Spirit's introduction of routes to Charleston, Dallas, Houston, and
- 3:33Norfolk starting April 10.
- 3:35Additionally, JetBlue recently introduced a non-stop flight from Boston to Paris.
- 3:42These expansions come after a federal judge blocked the merger between Spirit and JetBlue,
- 3:48citing antitrust concerns.
- 3:51The airlines have since terminated their merger agreement, with JetBlue compensating Spirit's
- 3:56$69 million to settle all disputes.
- 4:05Now on to sports.
- 4:07In our March Madness update, the NCAA Men's National Championship game is set to be a
- 4:13clash of titans, with number one Seeds Purdue and Yukon facing off.
- 4:18Yukon enters as 6-point favorites.
- 4:22Purdue reaches its first championship game since 1969, after defeating NC State, while
- 4:29Yukon overcame Alabama to vie for the title.
- 4:34The game's pivotal figure is Purdue's, Sak Ede, whose performance could significantly
- 4:40influence the outcome.
- 4:42On Yukon's side, Donovan Klingon's defense against Ede will be critical.
- 4:48Both teams have showcased strong offensive capabilities throughout the season.
- 4:54And the game is predicted to be a high-scoring affair, with Yukon narrowly edging out Purdue,
- 5:00last night in local sports.
- 5:03The Celtics at home beat the Trailblazers 124-107.
- 5:09And the Red Sox on the road beat the Angels 12-2.
- 5:15Tonight no Boston sports.
- 5:18As the Sox travel back from the West Coast and gear up for their emotional home opener
- 5:23against the Baltimore Orioles, they bring with them not just a 7-3 record, but also
- 5:29a show of power from Sunday.
- 5:32Yesterday afternoon, the highlight was the trio of homers in the third inning, underscoring
- 5:37the team's slugging capabilities so far this year.
- 5:42This offensive display, alongside Tanner Hoech's pitching dominance and Reese McGuire's
- 5:475-RBI performance, sets a high note.
- 5:51The home opener will also serve as a poignant moment to honor Tim Wakefield, with players
- 5:57wearing number 49 patches as a tribute.
- 6:01Jason Veritek, sharing a close bond with Wakefield, anticipates an emotional day, reflecting on
- 6:07their shared history and the impact Wakefield had on the team and community.
- 6:13With promising weather and a legacy to celebrate, Tuesday's opener at Fenway Park is set to
- 6:19be a memorable convergence of stellar early-season performance and heartfelt homage, marking
- 6:25a special chapter in the Red Sox story.
- 6:30In top news, in honor of Monday morning, let's debunk some coffee myths, because it's not
- 6:36the villain it's often made out to be.
- 6:39Contrary to common beliefs, caffeine addiction poses minimal health and social risks, making
- 6:45the term addiction perhaps too severe for coffee enthusiasts.
- 6:51Coffee isn't dehydrating as previously thought.
- 6:54Moderate consumption balances out its diuretic effects.
- 6:57It won't sober you up if you're drunk, though, nor does darker roast mean more caffeine.
- 7:03Actually, lighter roasts might have slightly more, due to bean density changes during roasting.
- 7:10Most compellingly, coffee isn't harmful in moderation.
- 7:15In fact, it's associated with reduced risks of several diseases, making it a beneficial
- 7:20part of many diets, provided intake is moderate and mindful of added sugars.
- 7:27In business news, Bitcoin's forth-having is imminent, set to reduce the mining reward
- 7:34from 6.25 to 3.125 Bitcoins, slashing the inflation rate from 1.8% to just under 1%.
- 7:46This halving impacts the supply-demand balance, potentially influencing Bitcoin's market
- 7:51value.
- 7:53The process integral to Bitcoin's design ensures a predictable, fixed supply, contrasting
- 7:59with national currencies controlled by political forces.
- 8:04While it may pressure miners, especially smaller ones, by reducing revenue, it also offers
- 8:10an opportunity for efficiency improvements and market share gains among those prepared
- 8:15with newer machinery.
- 8:17Historically, halvings have been followed by price increases, though predicting short-term
- 8:22movements remain speculative.
- 8:26With growing institutional adoption and an increase in non-trading Bitcoin, the market
- 8:31dynamics are evolving.
- 8:33In crypto movement, Bitcoin is now just over $69,000, Ethereum is at $3,400, and Solana
- 8:43is $177.
- 8:48Moving on to a more local vibe.

- 9:32And now back to the show.
- 9:36Let's talk science.
- 9:37Avnos, a Los Angeles-based startup, is pioneering a new technology in Bakersfield, California
- 9:45that could revolutionize environmental efforts by extracting carbon dioxide and water from
- 9:51the air.
- 9:53This hybrid direct-air capture system not only aims to reduce atmospheric CO2, but
- 9:58also produces water, offering a solution to drought conditions.
- 10:03Funded by both the Department of Energy and private investments, Avnos' innovation seeks
- 10:09to lower the energy requirements of carbon capture while creating a sustainable water
- 10:14source.
- 10:16As the climate crisis intensifies, technologies like Avnos' offer a glimpse into the potential
- 10:22for significant impact through carbon capture and water production, addressing two critical
- 10:28environmental challenges simultaneously.
- 10:34And in entertainment news, Danny McBride, known for his role as Red in Pen Apple Express,
- 10:41noted his enthusiasm for a sequel during GQ's most iconic characters series.
- 10:47Despite the original becoming a cult classic, McBride mentioned that the possibility of
- 10:52a sequel feels unlikely due to timing.
- 10:57The film, which premiered in 2008, was a hit, grossing over $100 million.
- 11:03However, Seth Rogen revealed that a sequel pitch was rejected by Sony, possibly due to
- 11:09budget concerns.
- 11:12Rogen speculated they might have requested too much money for Sony's comfort.
- 11:17Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
- 11:23And today, our quote comes from Hank Aaron.
- 11:27And Hammerin' Hank said,
- 11:28My motto was always to keep swinging.
- 11:32Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only
- 11:38thing to do was keep swinging.
- 11:41Wise words, Hammer.
- 11:43Wise words.
- 11:46And that's a wrap for this morning.
