Transcript
- 6:57Speaker 1: It was one of an overnation of CJ Wilson here
- 6:59Speaker 1: with Dope Talk.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Let you guys funnel in a little bit. I'm sorry
- 7:03Speaker 2: about the late start. Currently in the hotel right now
- 7:06Speaker 2: recording as you guys see what's traveling a little bit
- 7:08Speaker 2: this weekend. Dominating win for FSU 38-7. Win in Tallahassee.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Was not expecting this at all. Really dominating win on
- 7:19Speaker 2: both sides of the ball, offense and defense. Rough. Starts
- 7:24Speaker 2: of the game, rough first quarter, first couple of drives.
- 7:26Speaker 2: After that, pretty much everything got rolling. But you guys
- 7:29Speaker 2: on the spill, want to go through the game a
- 7:31Speaker 2: little bit, offense, defense, and then give you guys some
- 7:34Speaker 2: takes on certain things, chat around the program and stuff
- 7:37Speaker 2: like that. As you guys know, it's a lot of
- 7:39Speaker 2: chatter around the program for sure. So we'll get into
- 7:42Speaker 2: those takes. And also at the end of the show, well,
- 7:45Speaker 2: towards the end of the show, you know you guys,
- 7:47Speaker 2: we like to end it rather with the call-in portion
- 7:51Speaker 2: idea for you guys. It's been a few weeks since
- 7:53Speaker 2: we actually touched base and talked with each other. You know,
- 7:56Speaker 2: last week, didn't really go live after the win against Central,
- 8:01Speaker 2: the fight in Mark Northvale's Central Arkansas. Didn't go live
- 8:05Speaker 2: for that game, really didn't feel the need for that.
- 8:06Speaker 2: And also, Superdude producer Harlan, he was traveling as well.
- 8:10Speaker 2: So he decided to skip last week, so he's back
- 8:12Speaker 2: with this week. So I know you guys have a
- 8:14Speaker 2: lot of, I guess, takes to get off within the
- 8:16Speaker 2: last two weeks since we last talked. So we'll be
- 8:19Speaker 2: opening the floor as well towards the end of the
- 8:21Speaker 2: show to discuss.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Everything.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yep, we'll be opening up things towards the end of
- 8:39Speaker 2: the show to discuss everything and go from there. Make
- 8:45Speaker 2: sure you guys hit that like and subscribe button if
- 8:48Speaker 2: you haven't already. Also, I know some of you guys,
- 8:49Speaker 2: like I said, we're streaming on Twitter, X, whatever you
- 8:53Speaker 2: call it, and YouTube. If you're on the X Twitter version,
- 8:56Speaker 2: go ahead and join the YouTube version. Hit that like
- 8:59Speaker 2: button and subscribe to the channel if you haven't.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Show a little love. Hang out in the comments section.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Again, if you're going to tap in and discuss, tap
- 9:10Speaker 2: in and want to be a part of the call-in portion,
- 9:13Speaker 2: you have to be on the YouTube side. I'm going
- 9:17Speaker 2: to give a shout out to our sponsor, shout out
- 9:18Speaker 2: to ClickSpin. ClickSpin provides a corporate MasterCard bill for any

- 9:50Speaker 2: So make sure you guys tap in.
- 9:51Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Perfect quarter for the most part. Well, near perfect game
- 9:59Speaker 2: for the most part. Three quarters of perfect football, in
- 10:02Speaker 2: my opinion. The first quarter was definitely very sloppy, but
- 10:06Speaker 2: they made the adjustments and kind of settled down a
- 10:07Speaker 2: little bit and got things going. I've been asking for
- 10:10Speaker 2: a complete game. I was hoping we got that against
- 10:12Speaker 2: Central Arkansas. Of course, this wasn't a complete game, but
- 10:15Speaker 2: it was close enough to what we have as I've
- 10:18Speaker 2: seen a long damn time from an offensive side, from
- 10:21Speaker 2: a defensive perspective and an offense perspective.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I did not see this coming at all.
- 10:25Speaker 2: 464 yards of total offense to 205 yards of total offense. Man,
- 10:32Speaker 2: shout out to that defense, man. Shout out to the defense.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Got to give Tony Wright and company credit. You guys
- 10:36Speaker 2: have seen the defense throughout this season has been terrible,
- 10:41Speaker 2: to say the least. One of the worst defenses in
- 10:43Speaker 2: P5 gave up, what, 500 yards against Bama, was it?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Close to 600 yards.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Against SMU to hold these guys to 205 and a
- 10:54Speaker 2: pretty good offense with Bo as the quarterback and a
- 10:57Speaker 2: really good running game.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So shout out to the defense.
- 11:00Speaker 2: The biggest takeaway, again, shout out to the– this has
- 11:03Speaker 2: been one of the Achilles heels for both offense and defense,
- 11:05Speaker 2: which kind of goes to my point about a near-perfect game,
- 11:08Speaker 2: third down conversions.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I've been harping big, not just me, everyone, right?
- 11:12Speaker 2: This third down defense and how bad third down defense
- 11:16Speaker 2: has been We were three for– UVA was three for
- 11:20Speaker 2: 15 on third downs.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like, that's amazing. Amazing.
- 11:23Speaker 2: That's what winning football is like. You know, on the
- 11:25Speaker 2: flip end, FSU was six for 12, 50%.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Not bad. So, pretty good as well, too. I like it.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And we're getting to the thick of things with this
- 11:36Speaker 2: ACC stretch that everyone's been talking about. Virginia being the start.
- 11:40Speaker 2: We have Louisville this Friday night. And, of course, Miami
- 11:42Speaker 2: and followed by Clemson. So, that's where we're at with
- 11:44Speaker 2: things on that end. We'll see how things play out
- 11:49Speaker 2: because as we see Louisville, what, two or three right now,
- 11:54Speaker 2: if I'm not mistaken, we kind of crowned them a
- 11:56Speaker 2: little early after that.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Ole Miss game. That's preseason shit, right? Excuse me.
- 12:04Speaker 2: That goes back to the talking point about preseason frankies
- 12:08Speaker 2: and all that type of stuff. I really think all
- 12:10Speaker 2: that shit should be thrown out the window. None of
- 12:13Speaker 2: that stuff is a proven sign, especially in today's game
- 12:15Speaker 2: of the transfer portal, right? there's so many moving parts
- 12:18Speaker 2: within these teams and that type of deal to where
- 12:23Speaker 2: there's no absolutes when it's coming to the season. Like
- 12:25Speaker 2: you can't make pre-season predictions, but you know, I get it.
- 12:28Speaker 1: We get it. They do it for TV ratings and
- 12:30Speaker 1: early pre-season games.
- 12:31Speaker 2: You got to build the hype top 10, quote unquote,
- 12:34Speaker 2: top 10 matchup, build a TV revenue, you know, get
- 12:37Speaker 2: TV money and all.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That type of deal.
- 12:39Speaker 2: But, I say all that to say this, that first
- 12:42Speaker 2: game against Ole Miss versus Louisville, we kind of felt like, oh,
- 12:44Speaker 2: these guys could be for real based upon how it
- 12:46Speaker 2: looked against Ole Miss. And Ole Miss, you know, went
- 12:49Speaker 2: to the national championship. No, not national championship. Went to the, what,
- 12:54Speaker 2: the semifinals against Miami last year and ended up losing.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Brought a lot of people back, pretty much a top
- 12:58Speaker 2: 10 team coming in, SEC, that type of deal. We've
- 13:03Speaker 2: seen how Ole Miss looked against Florida in the swamp,
- 13:05Speaker 2: doing up 50 damn points. Again, we see they jump
- 13:09Speaker 2: Florida all the way to the damn top ten, right?
- 13:11Speaker 2: And they got their ass muds coming against Mizzou on
- 13:14Speaker 2: the road, who is another ranked team.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And again, Missouri shouldn't be ranked at all either. But
- 13:18Speaker 1: that's neither here nor there. I say all that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I say this as far as that Louisville game doesn't
- 13:23Speaker 2: look as, quote-unquote, scary as we thought coming in.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So we'll see how that plays out.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But we'll start the portion of the show with the
- 13:30Speaker 2: defense first. I got to give my hat to Tony
- 13:33Speaker 2: White and those guys and kind of go on with that.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The shots, the defense, amazing performance, amazing performance, man. And
- 13:41Speaker 2: Tony White emphasized this coming in, and we knew this, but,
- 13:44Speaker 2: of course, the fan base took his quote and kind
- 13:48Speaker 2: of ran with it and took shots with it because
- 13:49Speaker 2: the pass defense has been so bad. But he was
- 13:52Speaker 2: saying that the main focus is to stop Virginia's run game,
- 13:54Speaker 2: which is true because those guys have been very effective
- 13:56Speaker 2: running the football. They pretty much bullied us last year.
- 14:00Speaker 2: If you guys remember the Virginia game last year, they
- 14:01Speaker 2: bullied us in the run game last year. And that
- 14:04Speaker 2: was pretty much the tale of the game and why
- 14:05Speaker 2: we gave up so many points last year against Virginia.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And they did some mesh stuff that pretty much a
- 14:09Speaker 2: lot of coaches saw it on tape and exposed the
- 14:12Speaker 2: linebackers in the past game. But the majority of the
- 14:14Speaker 2: issue last year was the run game. And coming into
- 14:16Speaker 2: this game, Virginia had a really strong run offense. They
- 14:19Speaker 2: had three rushers with over 150 yards, whatever, three really
- 14:23Speaker 2: good running backs. And the quarterback is able to run
- 14:26Speaker 2: as well, too. We held those guys to 27 rushing yards.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I'm going to say this again. We held those guys
- 14:32Speaker 2: to 27 rushing yards. And this is after, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: the week prior, Bama pretty much did what they wanted
- 14:40Speaker 2: to in the, I guess you'd say, the fourth quarter.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Taylor didn't play game once, you.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Know, fourth quarter once. The defensive line was kind of
- 14:48Speaker 2: worn out. The depth took a toll in that type
- 14:50Speaker 2: of way. The lack of depth rather took a toll.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And Bama was able to run the football and put
- 14:54Speaker 2: the game away and not give the offense a chance
- 14:56Speaker 2: to get a score.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 2: You saw that last week and this week. Shout out
- 15:01Speaker 2: to the run game. They did a really good job.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I mean, those guys had 40 attempts, averaged less than,
- 15:06Speaker 2: of course, Saks does factor into this as well.
- 15:08Speaker 1: We'll definitely get to that in a second. But they
- 15:10Speaker 1: averaged less than one yard per rush.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Man. And this is what we expected from Tony White
- 15:20Speaker 2: and his defense coming to.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Florida State, right?
- 15:22Speaker 2: If you guys remember going back to those Nebraska days,
- 15:25Speaker 2: Their run defense was really damn stout.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think it was, I don't remember exactly.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I know I had all that information once he was
- 15:30Speaker 2: actually hired, but it was a certain amount of games
- 15:32Speaker 2: where they held opposing teams to less than 100 yards rushing.
- 15:36Speaker 2: So this was one of the staples in Tony White's
- 15:38Speaker 2: defense is stopping the run, and they did a really
- 15:40Speaker 2: good job this past.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Week, well, yesterday, rather, against Virginia. Really good job.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And again, like I said, that run game was the
- 15:48Speaker 2: strength of their offense, rather. They had three really good
- 15:52Speaker 2: backs that could do damage. And of course the quarterback bow, um,
- 15:56Speaker 2: baby Tebow per DC, Tony white, it's 14 to 32,
- 16:01Speaker 2: 168 yards.
- 16:02Speaker 1: One pass touchdown.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Um, he was coming in hot to this game prior
- 16:07Speaker 2: to the FSU game within the four games. He had
- 16:11Speaker 2: 11 touchdown passes and just one interception. So hats off
- 16:15Speaker 2: to the defense. Now it was a few drops for sure.
- 16:17Speaker 2: It was a few drops. I'm not going to deny
- 16:19Speaker 2: that at all. It was a few drops. Um, But again,
- 16:22Speaker 2: Tony White was more aggressive in coverage, wasn't as passive,
- 16:26Speaker 2: got in their face a lot more, and we emphasized
- 16:29Speaker 2: stopping the run, like I said. And going back to
- 16:30Speaker 2: stopping the run, shout out to Kevin Wynn, man. Shout
- 16:33Speaker 2: out to Juju. This is what we thought we were
- 16:35Speaker 2: getting when we recruited this kid. Was a high four-star recruit.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I think he was within the 50 or 100 range.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I don't remember the exact ranking, but a highly regarded recruit.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Georgia was after him. Texas was after him.
- 16:47Speaker 1: This, that, and the third.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Had battled some injuries early on. He's starting to get
- 16:51Speaker 2: into game shape and get more snaps and get more reps.
- 16:54Speaker 2: He played 30 snaps yesterday against Virginia. We need more
- 16:57Speaker 2: of him. I need more of that. He's clearly the
- 16:59Speaker 2: best run stopper. He could be a difference maker for
- 17:03Speaker 2: FSU within his 3-3-5 defense if you have a dominant nose, right?
- 17:07Speaker 1: Go back to the last few years.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Darryl Jackson has been, well, not last few years, last
- 17:12Speaker 2: year in general, Darryl Jackson was the anchor of the
- 17:15Speaker 2: defense and was the unsung hero and made a lot
- 17:19Speaker 2: of plays for other players due to him commanding so
- 17:23Speaker 2: much of just taking up so much space in the
- 17:26Speaker 2: middle of being a force, a force enforcer in the middle.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And I think Juju is more, he's not as tall
- 17:32Speaker 2: as a Daryl Jackson. He's more, you know, six, two,
- 17:35Speaker 2: that type of deal, more style. So he's going to
- 17:37Speaker 2: be able to get more push.
- 17:38Speaker 1: In the rain game.
- 17:38Speaker 2: He, when he gets quick, when he create, when he
- 17:41Speaker 2: tries to, when he goes and creates, what words I
- 17:45Speaker 2: want to use when he, Engages with the offensive lineman
- 17:49Speaker 2: and goes in the run game. It's a high percentage
- 17:52Speaker 2: that he's going to redo the line of scrimmage by
- 17:59Speaker 2: pushing the line back. He's done a really good job
- 18:03Speaker 2: in the run game. I think he could be an
- 18:04Speaker 2: upgraded Darrell Jackson at that position, which could pay dividends
- 18:09Speaker 2: for this defense moving forward. I really think he has
- 18:12Speaker 2: been a key piece in how the running defense has looked.
- 18:16Speaker 2: You look at the first half against Alabama. Alabama couldn't
- 18:20Speaker 2: run a damn ball, and Kevin Wynn was a part
- 18:22Speaker 2: of that. He was giving Alabama a center hell all night, well,
- 18:25Speaker 2: within the limited stamps he played. But again, really want
- 18:28Speaker 2: to give a shout out to Juju for what he's done.
- 18:31Speaker 2: This is the kid we thought he'd be when we
- 18:34Speaker 2: recruited him. The issue is, in typical Florida State fashion,
- 18:37Speaker 2: we have four to five Jujus on the defensive line,
- 18:40Speaker 2: but to have One would definitely be nice, especially for
- 18:44Speaker 2: this 3-3-5 defense. He's definitely come along in a positive way.
- 18:51Speaker 2: But like I said, I do think the coverage was better.
- 18:54Speaker 2: It had a few drop passes. But again, the biggest
- 18:57Speaker 2: story of the game is the defensive line getting pressure.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I'm not saying the defensive line getting pressure. Everyone getting pressure,
- 19:01Speaker 2: but the majority of the defensive line had a.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Hell of a night.
- 19:04Speaker 2: We had 10 sacks. Everybody ate, man. Those guys, and
- 19:07Speaker 2: on top of just the 10 sacks, it was plenty
- 19:09Speaker 2: of times where the pressure was getting home as well, too.
- 19:12Speaker 2: And shout out to Nick Williams, the edge rusher coach
- 19:16Speaker 2: in the pot rush as well. Man, those guys had those.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Those two had the players ready to go. Man, Chris
- 19:21Speaker 2: Jones had a sack. David had a sack. The Sierra
- 19:24Speaker 2: Twins got on the board with a sack.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It was a sequence. It was a back-to-back sack.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So I forgot who got the sack before Mandrell. Then
- 19:32Speaker 2: he followed up with a sack. Man, those guys were
- 19:33Speaker 2: playing ball. Ryan Kennedy looked damn good. Two sacks, explosive
- 19:38Speaker 2: off the edge. When we thought we were getting, when
- 19:40Speaker 2: we acquired him from Texas A & M, So again, man,
- 19:43Speaker 2: shout out to those guys.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Ten sacks. Ten sacks. Ten sacks, man. This is what
- 19:48Speaker 1: we've been asking for.
- 19:50Speaker 2: That shit looked damn good, man, the pressure they were getting,
- 19:52Speaker 2: making the quarterback uncomfortable.
- 19:54Speaker 1: This was the guy coming in, man. He was hot.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Eleven touchdowns, one interception. He looked uncomfortable all night. I'm
- 20:02Speaker 2: pretty sure he's in the ice tub right now. So,
- 20:04Speaker 2: really good job for the defensive line. you know, for
- 20:07Speaker 2: the efforts they put in. But again, 10 sacks, that's
- 20:09Speaker 2: very impressive. Very impressive. But again, this last night, well,
- 20:13Speaker 2: yesterday's performance was day and night from previous weeks. So again,
- 20:17Speaker 2: you got to give a shot to Tony White. We
- 20:19Speaker 2: gave criticism to him when it was warranted and rightfully so.
- 20:23Speaker 2: That shit was bad against SMU. Well, not even just SMU.
- 20:27Speaker 2: New Mexico State, it was bad in third down situations. SMU,
- 20:30Speaker 2: we saw it was bad in all facets of the
- 20:33Speaker 2: game as far as defense. And then, of course, Alabama,
- 20:37Speaker 2: it wasn't good at all in certain aspects, especially the
- 20:40Speaker 2: second half.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So shout out to him.
- 20:43Speaker 2: This is a guy that pretty much he's been accepting
- 20:45Speaker 2: all type of criticism, right? He's been taking it on
- 20:47Speaker 2: the chin and saying, hey, it's my fault. I'm going
- 20:50Speaker 2: to hold on to it and try to get better.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And that's exactly what those guys did yesterday.
- 20:54Speaker 1: They got better.
- 20:56Speaker 2: So we'll see how that unfolds going into next week
- 20:59Speaker 2: against Friday Night Raw game. Moving on to the offense. And,
- 21:04Speaker 2: of course, if you start with offense, you've got to
- 21:05Speaker 2: start with Ashton Daniels. It was the Ashton Daniels show.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Wrote the FSU record for most rushing touchdowns in the game.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Had five of those.
- 21:14Speaker 2: 17 rushes for 136 yards and five touchdowns. And I
- 21:21Speaker 2: want to give a shout-out to the coaching staff for,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I guess, putting the emphasis on pulling out, man.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Like, that boy refused to pull out.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I'm surprised he may have a few kids running around
- 21:30Speaker 2: trying to ask him, you know, what previous– schools of this, that,
- 21:33Speaker 2: and third, Auburn, Stanford, because the kid refused to pull out.
- 21:36Speaker 2: And these defenses reacted to what he put on film
- 21:42Speaker 2: as far as him refusing to pull out. They crashed
- 21:44Speaker 2: down plenty of times, not giving him any type of
- 21:48Speaker 2: attention as far as being a threat to running football.
- 21:51Speaker 2: And Virginia did the same damn thing because we showed
- 21:54Speaker 2: it all, well, he showed it, rather, on film to
- 21:57Speaker 2: not pull out. So I'm assuming a coach on staff
- 22:01Speaker 2: based upon all the film we've been seeing, son, you
- 22:03Speaker 2: got to pull it.
- 22:04Speaker 1: You got to pull it. You're hurting our running backs.
- 22:06Speaker 1: You're not the offense.
- 22:10Speaker 2: The run game specifically can't show its full potential without
- 22:14Speaker 2: you actually being a threat and showing that you are
- 22:17Speaker 2: a threat to run the football. And when he ran,
- 22:19Speaker 2: he ran. When he made the decision to run, he ran.
- 22:22Speaker 2: One of the big issues we've been seeing is how
- 22:25Speaker 2: hesitant he's been as far as deciding to run. And
- 22:28Speaker 2: when you do decide to run, it's like.
- 22:29Speaker 1: He's I don't know. It just looks... It looked weird.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Like he was... He would decide to run. He said, no,
- 22:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to do it. It's like he's double-dutch
- 22:39Speaker 2: trying to jump back in and now he's not making
- 22:40Speaker 2: a decision to commit to it fully. We know what
- 22:42Speaker 2: he brings from an athletic standpoint. Really athletic guy.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Really... We saw that what he could do as far
- 22:47Speaker 1: as running the football. Big guy.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And.
- 22:49Speaker 1: It paid dividends, man.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Kid had an 80-yard... When I say kid, he had
- 22:53Speaker 2: an 80-yard touchdown run on one of those plays. So again, man,
- 22:57Speaker 2: shout out to Ashton Daniels for actually Committing to the run,
- 23:01Speaker 2: doing what we've been asking to do since SMU for
- 23:05Speaker 2: the most part.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Because I think he had like.
- 23:06Speaker 2: 50 or so yards against SMU, and that was the
- 23:10Speaker 2: worst 50-yard rushing game I've ever seen. I'm going to
- 23:13Speaker 2: get the exact number because I'm not. I know you
- 23:15Speaker 2: guys will kill me sometimes if I don't have the
- 23:17Speaker 2: exact stat. So bear with me while I get the
- 23:28Speaker 2: exact rushing number. Shit, I lied. He had 71 rushing
- 23:33Speaker 2: yards against SMU. And that's the worst 71 rushing yards
- 23:37Speaker 2: I've ever seen. He could have easily had 100-plus against...
- 23:40Speaker 2: He could have had the same type of game against SMU.
- 23:42Speaker 2: If Ashley committed to running the football against SMU and
- 23:45Speaker 2: this defense played half of what they did yesterday against SMU, shit.
- 23:50Speaker 1: That game was a fucking blowout. I mean, no contest
- 23:54Speaker 1: at all.
- 23:55Speaker 2: They tried to give us the game in the first
- 23:57Speaker 2: place due to all the turnovers, so if we do
- 24:00Speaker 2: that and he... turns those 70 yards to 120, 125,
- 24:05Speaker 2: which could have easily been done in that game. We're
- 24:07Speaker 2: looking at a 3-1 team. That's neither here nor there. But, again,
- 24:11Speaker 2: Ashton was really good, really good. Kept the defense honest.
- 24:19Speaker 2: And also on this, it was a certain pass game
- 24:22Speaker 2: wasn't bad, but it was certain aspects to where you
- 24:24Speaker 2: got to let it go. Just got to let it
- 24:27Speaker 2: go from a pass-catching standpoint. It was one play where
- 24:30Speaker 2: we took a sack when he shouldn't, because he didn't
- 24:32Speaker 2: trust what he saw. He had Landon Thomas wide open. Well,
- 24:36Speaker 2: he had to throw him open, rather, right behind the linebacker.
- 24:39Speaker 2: But if you see how the play was developing and,
- 24:41Speaker 2: you know, that type of deal, you knew he would
- 24:43Speaker 2: be open if you threw the ball in a certain
- 24:45Speaker 2: spot over the linebacker's eyes, over the linebacker's head.
- 24:48Speaker 1: That play was there.
- 24:49Speaker 2: He didn't see it, rather, or didn't process it quickly,
- 24:53Speaker 2: and it ended up being a sack on the offense
- 24:57Speaker 2: or on the defense, rather. But, again, there's certain things
- 24:59Speaker 2: like that I think could be a lot better But again,
- 25:05Speaker 2: you see the confidence in the running game. I hope
- 25:07Speaker 2: this builds for the next game moving in the future
- 25:09Speaker 2: because it's there. He could definitely do it. And he
- 25:13Speaker 2: also had a 183 through the air. Like I said,
- 25:16Speaker 2: Cromon Wiseman benefited. Shout out to Wiseman.
- 25:18Speaker 1: He does. So explosive, right?
- 25:22Speaker 2: We knew that coming in. He's starting to get healthy.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And we got to depend on him a lot more
- 25:26Speaker 2: now with Sam Singleton hurt. But he showed his explosiveness.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Had 106 total yards. With that big 48-yard catch, Mekhi
- 25:35Speaker 2: Daniels looked really good as well. I think the sky
- 25:38Speaker 2: is the potential for him. The sky is the limit.
- 25:41Speaker 2: If he continues to develop, he could be a really
- 25:43Speaker 2: nice receiver. This is only his third year playing a position.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Going back to Florida High, he was an athlete, played
- 25:49Speaker 2: everything for those guys, more so a running back and
- 25:51Speaker 2: defensive back and running back for the most part. But
- 25:54Speaker 2: transitioning to the receiver position, we continue to give him
- 25:58Speaker 2: more opportunities and that type of deal. He continues to
- 26:00Speaker 2: get better and develop. kid could be very good. He
- 26:03Speaker 2: could be a weapon for FSU, in my opinion, as
- 26:06Speaker 2: a receiver. Deuce, man, he had a disappointing day, man.
- 26:12Speaker 2: We got to get better. He had two catches for
- 26:13Speaker 2: 18 yards. We had two big drops on deep plays.
- 26:18Speaker 2: One that could have set up a touchdown for FSU
- 26:20Speaker 2: before the half.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Got to get better.
- 26:23Speaker 2: He came back to be one of those top receivers.
- 26:27Speaker 1: You got to make the plays. I do feel like
- 26:30Speaker 1: Norville has to do a better.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Job of featuring you and trying to get you the
- 26:34Speaker 2: ball at the same dang time, brother. You got to
- 26:35Speaker 2: make the plays that come to you. And those two
- 26:38Speaker 2: drops that you got to have, if you want to
- 26:40Speaker 2: take that next step and be him and be that guy,
- 26:44Speaker 2: you know, high traffic and this, that, and third, like
- 26:46Speaker 2: you got to make those catches. You got to give
- 26:50Speaker 2: a shout to Mike too, man. Give a shout to Norville.
- 26:52Speaker 2: His play calling has been damn good. Mike has done
- 26:56Speaker 2: a really good job calling plays the last few weeks.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Really like what I've seen from him the last few
- 27:00Speaker 2: weeks as far as, you know, opening things up and
- 27:04Speaker 2: letting it go. I think I saw a tweet. Someone tweeted,
- 27:08Speaker 2: I forget, I think it was J-Roll on Twitter tweeted
- 27:11Speaker 2: that there was a picture of Nick Saban, this, that,
- 27:15Speaker 2: and third, saying this is Norvell whenever his.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Job is on the line.
- 27:20Speaker 2: And, you know, of course, we know if he would
- 27:22Speaker 2: have got killed in Alabama and didn't lose this game,
- 27:25Speaker 2: it would have been a lot more of almost this
- 27:26Speaker 2: than third. But, Ever since those rumors have been coming out, man,
- 27:30Speaker 2: Mike has been opening shit up and letting it go
- 27:32Speaker 2: from a play-calling standpoint.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Let's get one example that I saw yesterday that was
- 27:35Speaker 1: pretty cool.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He ran the option a few times with Ashton and
- 27:39Speaker 2: the running back, you know, going to the sideline, your
- 27:43Speaker 2: regular traditional option, right? He threw a wrinkle in there
- 27:46Speaker 2: and threw an under, well, had an underneath option with
- 27:49Speaker 2: the running back to Wiseman, if I'm not mistaken, for
- 27:51Speaker 2: a shovel pass. It was pretty much the same read.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Just you read your defensive end, whether he comes through
- 27:56Speaker 2: it or the running back, It's just the inside read
- 27:59Speaker 2: versus the outside read on your traditional option.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So I thought that was a pretty cool wrinkle. So
- 28:04Speaker 1: little things like that.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I do think Mike Norvell is being very aggressive with
- 28:10Speaker 2: his play calling in certain situations. I think, of course,
- 28:12Speaker 2: you still see a lot of the traditional Mike Norvell
- 28:16Speaker 2: BSHG from game in and game out. But plays have
- 28:19Speaker 2: definitely been there for those guys to make for sure
- 28:22Speaker 2: from a play calling standpoint. So shout out to Mike.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Got to get him correct there. All right, guys, that's
- 28:30Speaker 2: going to be my little offense and defensive spill. Going
- 28:32Speaker 2: to kind of jump into and segue into the rest
- 28:36Speaker 2: of the schedule and what that kind of looks like
- 28:38Speaker 2: for FSU with the remaining, you know, how big it is,
- 28:42Speaker 2: how pivotal it is for these next few games. We've
- 28:44Speaker 2: been talking about this stretch for a while. I just
- 28:46Speaker 2: want to talk about it now and I guess you
- 28:49Speaker 2: could say mid-season, so to speak, and how things look
- 28:52Speaker 2: within these guys. So, man, make sure you guys hit
- 28:54Speaker 2: that like and subscribe button to the channel. And if
- 28:56Speaker 2: you're viewing on Twitter, join over to the YouTube version Also,
- 29:00Speaker 2: I forgot to mention this as well. You guys, once
- 29:02Speaker 2: I get to my school and start talking, I don't
- 29:04Speaker 2: look at the comments and that type of deal. If
- 29:05Speaker 2: you want to join the show, well, I'm sorry, if
- 29:07Speaker 2: you want to have a question specifically that you want
- 29:09Speaker 2: to be at, that you want to ask or take, whatever,
- 29:12Speaker 2: go ahead and hit that super chat and show a
- 29:14Speaker 2: little bit of love to Dope Talk and we get
- 29:16Speaker 2: those answered right away. All right, let's go on to
- 29:21Speaker 2: the rest of the schedule. We've kind of getting to
- 29:25Speaker 2: the middle of the schedule, the middle of the schedule
- 29:26Speaker 2: of this week. four-game ACC stretch that we've been talking
- 29:30Speaker 2: about since the schedule pretty much was released, right? You
- 29:33Speaker 2: have Virginia, Louisville, Miami, and then Clemson, and then you
- 29:39Speaker 2: kind of go into the the rest of the schedule.
- 29:41Speaker 1: We'll get to the rest of the schedule in a second.
- 29:42Speaker 2: But just looking at this four right now, we've already
- 29:44Speaker 2: beat Virginia, right? So we'll want to know thus far
- 29:47Speaker 2: within that schedule. And we've seen Louisville. They are currently
- 29:50Speaker 2: two and three. Not looking as good as we thought
- 29:54Speaker 2: they would be.
- 29:56Speaker 1: After week one.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That looks like a very winnable game. They ended up
- 30:00Speaker 2: losing to NC State yesterday, and NC State hasn't looked
- 30:05Speaker 2: good at all this season. You guys remember game one,
- 30:08Speaker 2: Virginia pretty much embarrassed NC State in the first game
- 30:13Speaker 2: of the season and kind of put a lot of
- 30:15Speaker 2: people on notice.
- 30:18Speaker 1: In that game, trying to quote that score from that game.
- 30:20Speaker 2: So NC State, not a really good football team in
- 30:22Speaker 2: my opinion, and Louisville took the L against those guys.
- 30:27Speaker 2: last week. Now, with that being said, we all know
- 30:34Speaker 2: Virginia beat UNC State 34-8. This shit is crazy, man.
- 30:40Speaker 2: This ACC is really crazy. You never know what you're
- 30:41Speaker 2: going to get from a game-to-game standpoint. Game-to-game standpoint, I
- 30:45Speaker 2: guess the only consistent thing we have right now is
- 30:47Speaker 2: Miami is the best team in the conference.
- 30:49Speaker 1: The rest of it is pretty much up for debating.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Just got to see how the rest of the schedule
- 30:53Speaker 2: plays out, but Virginia beat NC State 34-8. We beat
- 30:57Speaker 2: Virginia last night. NC State got the win against Louisville,
- 31:02Speaker 2: so that's the ACC, I guess. But I said to
- 31:04Speaker 2: say this, going to Louisville, that team isn't what we
- 31:07Speaker 2: thought they would be. But it's Friday night. Night game
- 31:13Speaker 2: on the road. We know how that goes. Typically for FSU,
- 31:15Speaker 2: it hasn't gone well. FSU hasn't won a true road
- 31:18Speaker 2: game since 2023 against the Florida Gators in the Swamp.
- 31:20Speaker 2: So again, This has been one of our Achilles heels, right?
- 31:28Speaker 2: We played damn good at Doak, damn good at Doak
- 31:32Speaker 2: for the last, I'm not going to say two years
- 31:33Speaker 2: because 2024, that shit was terrible across the board.
- 31:37Speaker 1: But we played pretty good at Doak last year, this
- 31:40Speaker 1: year as well thus far.
- 31:41Speaker 2: This is going to be a big test for the
- 31:44Speaker 2: team going on the road, getting that win against Louisville.
- 31:47Speaker 2: But again, we don't see Louisville as being that team
- 31:51Speaker 2: we thought they would be at this point in time.
- 31:54Speaker 2: And you fast forward to the Miami game, Miami is
- 31:57Speaker 2: clearly the best team in the ACC for sure.
- 32:00Speaker 1: A dominant performance against Clemson last night.
- 32:05Speaker 2: They pretty much had that offense, which is terrible in
- 32:07Speaker 2: its own right, but had that offense in hell all night.
- 32:10Speaker 1: So you see Miami for what it is.
- 32:13Speaker 2: They're one of the best teams in the country, one
- 32:14Speaker 2: of the best teams in the conference, the best team
- 32:17Speaker 2: in the conference in my opinion. So you have Miami.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And then Clemson. Clemson come to Tallahassee for Halloween. Really
- 32:24Speaker 2: solid defense from Clemson, in my opinion, from what I saw.
- 32:27Speaker 2: They did some really good things against Miami, but that
- 32:30Speaker 2: offense is bad. That is a bad offense. You have
- 32:33Speaker 2: a true freshman quarterback, Doak Campbell Stadium coming in. That
- 32:36Speaker 2: game could be– Clemson has a little good this season
- 32:40Speaker 2: as well. That game could be an interesting one. And
- 32:42Speaker 2: then after you get through that four-game– well, it's four-game
- 32:46Speaker 2: ACC stretch that we highlighted so much. We have Boston
- 32:48Speaker 2: College on the road at Boston College. You go to Pittsburgh.
- 32:54Speaker 2: That's a role game as well. I think that's a
- 32:55Speaker 2: Friday night game too, if I'm not mistaken. But the
- 32:57Speaker 2: caveat with Pittsburgh, they just lost their quarterback. They just
- 33:01Speaker 2: lost their quarterback for the year. And he was one
- 33:04Speaker 2: of the better quarterbacks in the ACC. So that's going
- 33:06Speaker 2: to be shot. I feel sorry for that kid towards ACL.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But that game is going to be looking completely different
- 33:12Speaker 2: now as Pittsburgh is going to be a new team
- 33:17Speaker 2: coming into that game with the injury to to Mason hydro.
- 33:24Speaker 2: So you got Pittsburgh and then you got NC state.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't think NC state is a
- 33:28Speaker 2: pretty good football team at all. Just, but again, I
- 33:31Speaker 2: do like their coach. Their coach is a good football coach.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I don't, I'm not going to say they're not a
- 33:35Speaker 2: good football team. It was early in the season. They
- 33:37Speaker 2: could be getting better, but you have NC state, which
- 33:40Speaker 2: is another, another home game. And then you end the
- 33:44Speaker 2: season with the home game against the Florida Gators, who
- 33:46Speaker 2: just got their shit pushed in by Missouri. I mean,
- 33:49Speaker 2: God damn, that was an embarrassing game to say, Oh,
- 33:53Speaker 2: I was not expecting that. I would put Florida on
- 33:56Speaker 2: my ticket, right? I guess that's what I get for
- 33:58Speaker 2: picking the Gators. They just got embarrassed by Missouri and
- 34:03Speaker 2: kind of shown if you, which is a tall test,
- 34:05Speaker 2: but it kind of shown that if you stop the
- 34:07Speaker 2: running game and run the ball and that type of deal,
- 34:10Speaker 2: which we damn sure weren't able to do. I think
- 34:13Speaker 2: Bob's still running down from last year for what he
- 34:15Speaker 2: did against Florida State's and Tony White's defense. But speaking
- 34:19Speaker 2: about what Missouri did themselves. They stopped the run game
- 34:23Speaker 2: for Florida. And the quarterback, he's nothing special to my opinion.
- 34:26Speaker 2: He's not able to beat, well, if we don't beat
- 34:33Speaker 2: ourselves with poor coverage, he's not a guy that can
- 34:35Speaker 2: really just beat you with his arm.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I don't believe so.
- 34:38Speaker 2: He's not a guy that can beat teams just being
- 34:41Speaker 2: that type of guy with his arm. So with that
- 34:43Speaker 2: being said, we'll see how things play out. This schedule
- 34:46Speaker 2: is pretty interesting. I think I said Eight wins preseason.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Eight wins is still kind of doable, but we'll see
- 34:58Speaker 2: what Florida State team we have, man, because we kind
- 35:00Speaker 2: of saw this last week, well, not last week, last year, rather,
- 35:05Speaker 2: against Wake Forest. As you guys know, Wake was a
- 35:07Speaker 2: nine-win team last year, and they came to Doak Campbell Stadium,
- 35:10Speaker 2: and we just obliterated those guys, dominated Wake Forest, and
- 35:13Speaker 2: every facet of the game as well, too. So I
- 35:15Speaker 2: do want to see consistency and kind of See how
- 35:18Speaker 2: it boils on next week against Louisville, especially on the road.
- 35:22Speaker 2: But that's the remainder of the schedule. You guys can
- 35:25Speaker 2: do what you want with that information, but I don't know.
- 35:30Speaker 2: It's pretty winnable in my opinion. This ACC is kind
- 35:33Speaker 2: of wide open. Now, with that being said, we spoke
- 35:37Speaker 2: about the schedule, right? What does that mean for Mike
- 35:40Speaker 2: Norvell and his job and that type of deal? That's
- 35:43Speaker 2: the burning question that everybody wants to know, right? And
- 35:46Speaker 2: it's been news coming out saying that, you know, maybe
- 35:50Speaker 2: Florida State will keep him or they don't want to
- 35:53Speaker 2: fire him and this, that, and third. Guys, it's the
- 35:55Speaker 2: same news. It's the same thing. This isn't anything new, right?
- 36:00Speaker 2: This is the same news we knew in June, July,
- 36:06Speaker 2: pretty much preseason, all offseason, going into the season that, yeah,
- 36:11Speaker 2: no shit. It's a no-brainer that the administration don't want
- 36:15Speaker 2: to fire Mike Novell. That's not surprising. They don't want
- 36:19Speaker 2: to fire Mike Norvell. They don't want to have to
- 36:21Speaker 2: pay him X amount of money for the buyout, this, that,
- 36:23Speaker 2: and the third. They don't want to be on the
- 36:25Speaker 2: hook for that type of money if it doesn't work out.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Of course they don't.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Now, if you keep losing this, that, and the third,
- 36:31Speaker 2: and the Romans keep getting louder and louder, it is
- 36:34Speaker 2: to a point to where it's undeniable that you have
- 36:36Speaker 2: to fire him, right?
- 36:38Speaker 1: But no, don't get it twisted. Do they want to
- 36:40Speaker 1: fire Mike Norvell?
- 36:41Speaker 2: No.
- 36:42Speaker 1: The running thought is that Mike Norvell would get himself fired.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I told you guys preseason, I felt like eight wins
- 36:49Speaker 2: was the measuring stick if he wins. If he gets
- 36:51Speaker 2: to eight wins, I feel like his job would have
- 36:53Speaker 2: been saved preseason. I don't think you could fire him
- 36:57Speaker 2: for winning eight games. I just think he could, but
- 37:00Speaker 2: I don't think it would be.
- 37:02Speaker 2: In their eyes, I don't feel like that would be
- 37:04Speaker 2: a justifiable fire to win eight games. I'll put it
- 37:07Speaker 2: that way. In the administration's eyes, they wouldn't do it
- 37:09Speaker 2: based upon eight wins. Seven wins, I said it could
- 37:13Speaker 2: get sticky and dicey depending on how the seven wins look. You...
- 37:16Speaker 2: play competitive, beat a Florida, Miami, or Clemson, something along
- 37:21Speaker 2: those lines, or Alabama, which you have. You already lost
- 37:23Speaker 2: to Alabama, so Florida, Miami, or Clemson. Then it'll be
- 37:27Speaker 2: a conversation on possibly. But even then, I feel like
- 37:29Speaker 2: that would be a little bit murky. You win two games,
- 37:32Speaker 2: five games, and seven. I think they are, in my opinion,
- 37:36Speaker 2: but again, I'm not making a decision. I said it's
- 37:37Speaker 2: preseason as well. That'll be a discussion depending on how
- 37:40Speaker 2: those seven look. But I would probably end things like that.
- 37:44Speaker 2: But I feel like eight plus, he's good to go. Again,
- 37:47Speaker 2: that has been a thought since preseason. Now, we and
- 37:51Speaker 2: the reasons the rumbles got so big, right, because we
- 37:54Speaker 2: saw New Mexico State 34-17 or some shit like that.
- 37:59Speaker 2: We saw New Mexico State. We saw SMU, how winnable
- 38:02Speaker 2: that game was. We felt like SMU wasn't that good.
- 38:05Speaker 2: So based upon those factors and how the rest of
- 38:10Speaker 2: the early teams, you know, Louisville, how Louisville looked and,
- 38:13Speaker 2: of course, Miami and how Virginia looked against him. So
- 38:16Speaker 2: we saw those first couple games and then how the
- 38:21Speaker 2: rest of the schedule plays. Like, oh, there's no way
- 38:22Speaker 2: in hell, you know, he win seven, eight games. This
- 38:25Speaker 2: is a three, four, five-win team. Some people say, you know,
- 38:28Speaker 2: only guaranteed win, which I can understand based upon what
- 38:31Speaker 2: we saw was New Mexico stayed in Central Arkansas.
- 38:35Speaker 1: And you pick two for four wins. So that was
- 38:39Speaker 1: the narrative, right? So, of course, you win four wins.
- 38:41Speaker 2: You win five, you win three. 6, 100% Mike Novell
- 38:44Speaker 2: gets fired. So let's put this shit in perspective and be,
- 38:49Speaker 2: it's not new news. Nothing is new. It's just what
- 38:54Speaker 2: the performance are and what we've seen. We saw early
- 38:56Speaker 2: in the season how bad things looked, and we felt
- 38:59Speaker 2: like there's no way in hell they could get to
- 39:01Speaker 2: 8 based upon how the remainder of the teams look.
- 39:04Speaker 2: We saw Florida looking good early in the season. Now
- 39:06Speaker 2: that shit looks iffy. So what I'm saying is the
- 39:09Speaker 2: schedule is, All this shit is fluid, pretty much.
- 39:13Speaker 1: It's all fluid. I'm never going to root for FSU
- 39:17Speaker 1: to lose anything like that.
- 39:18Speaker 2: So if he gets to eight, that's a conversation that
- 39:20Speaker 2: those guys would have to have. But I just want
- 39:21Speaker 2: to put that in perspective as far as what things
- 39:24Speaker 2: look like for Mike Norvell in Florida as far as
- 39:26Speaker 2: his job security.
- 39:28Speaker 1: There's no new information coming out of it. the administration.
- 39:31Speaker 2: The mayor think about keeping him now or he gets
- 39:35Speaker 2: this boost, whatever, whatever, whatever. No, man, these people never
- 39:38Speaker 2: wanted to fucking fire him. I mean, let's be honest.
- 39:42Speaker 2: They never wanted to fire him. They absolutely wanted to
- 39:46Speaker 2: work out. In a perfect world, they wanted to work out.
- 39:49Speaker 2: So this is a new information. They wanted to work out.
- 39:52Speaker 2: But folks, people thought that there's no way it could
- 39:57Speaker 2: work out.
- 39:58Speaker 1: And it was just.
- 40:00Speaker 2: A non-avoidable situation of a foregone conclusion. He was going
- 40:03Speaker 2: to get fired. He was going to, you know, let
- 40:05Speaker 2: the games play out and he'll fire himself. So we'll
- 40:07Speaker 2: see how the rest of the schedule plays out. But again,
- 40:09Speaker 2: if he wins eight, I don't think he would. I
- 40:13Speaker 2: don't think they will make a decision to pull the
- 40:15Speaker 2: plug on Mike Norvell. Seven, we have a conversation depending
- 40:20Speaker 2: on how that looks. Me personally, I would move on
- 40:23Speaker 2: from seven, but I'm not making those decisions. But again,
- 40:27Speaker 2: this isn't new information. This isn't new information. We always
- 40:30Speaker 2: feel like just how the preseason looked, how the first
- 40:34Speaker 2: few games looked, and how the remaining of the schedule
- 40:36Speaker 2: looked within those first few games. People put two and
- 40:39Speaker 2: two together and felt like we couldn't get to this
- 40:40Speaker 2: and couldn't get to that. I want people that kind
- 40:44Speaker 2: of believe what the guys in those locker rooms, inside
- 40:46Speaker 2: the locker room, they're still performing this down the third.
- 40:48Speaker 2: So we'll see if that belief is still true because, again,
- 40:51Speaker 2: it's Virginia. I felt like they were winning this game.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I picked FSU to win this game. I didn't think
- 40:55Speaker 2: they were winning this fashion and dominate those guys like that,
- 40:58Speaker 2: but I felt like they were winning. The rest of
- 41:01Speaker 2: the schedule, the rest of these games is what kind
- 41:03Speaker 2: of had my attention as far as what we'll be
- 41:07Speaker 2: looking at moving forward as far as his tenure, right?
- 41:11Speaker 2: I feel like the rest of these three games right
- 41:13Speaker 2: here will pretty much tell the story. We're about to
- 41:16Speaker 2: find out. Again, we're about to find out. But just
- 41:19Speaker 2: looking at how it plays out, man, Louisville looks beatable. Again,
- 41:24Speaker 2: we struck on the road. We're like Dr.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Jekyll and Mr.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Hyde when it comes to playing on the road versus
- 41:29Speaker 2: playing away. But Louisville looks pretty damn beatable. Friday nights
- 41:33Speaker 2: do scare me. But again, Louisville looks pretty beatable. I
- 41:36Speaker 2: think Miami would be an L. Clemson definitely looks beatable,
- 41:40Speaker 2: especially that offense. Boston College, role game, still a little beatable.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Pittsburgh are complete. Well, we'll see, but I believe they'll
- 41:47Speaker 2: be a completely different team without Mason, who I think
- 41:49Speaker 2: is one of the better quarterbacks in the ACC. Then,
- 41:52Speaker 2: of course, you have NC State, and you have the
- 41:53Speaker 2: Florida Gators, who they're clearly not a top-ten team.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Clearly not. So we'll see how the remainder of the
- 42:00Speaker 1: schedule play out. Again, just we'll see.
- 42:04Speaker 2: No need to– I know everybody wants breaking news, you know,
- 42:09Speaker 2: Every day, this, that, and the third.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Just let the shit play out. Just relax. Let it
- 42:12Speaker 1: play out.
- 42:12Speaker 2: The schedule will take care of itself one way or another.
- 42:16Speaker 2: That's my take on that. I just wanted to address
- 42:18Speaker 2: that and say, hey, man, there's no new information as
- 42:20Speaker 2: far as, oh, they want to keep Martin O'Reilly and
- 42:23Speaker 2: things like that.
- 42:23Speaker 1: They always want to keep Martin O'Reilly.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Always. People just felt like it would have been too
- 42:28Speaker 2: much of a tall task for Martin O'Reilly to win
- 42:31Speaker 2: a certain amount of games to avoid that. Well, I
- 42:37Speaker 2: guess a certain amount of games to Make their wishes
- 42:39Speaker 2: come true and keep them. Everybody thought he would fall
- 42:42Speaker 2: short and make the rumble so loud to his unavoidable
- 42:45Speaker 2: to where you got to pull the plug. So we'll
- 42:47Speaker 2: see how things play out. But that's my take. Make
- 42:50Speaker 2: sure you guys hit that like and subscribe button. I'm
- 42:53Speaker 2: pretty sure y'all probably going to look crazy in the
- 42:55Speaker 2: chat or whatever in that type of deal. We're going
- 42:59Speaker 2: to open things up from the phone line perspective. If
- 43:01Speaker 2: you guys want to join, call in portion.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Get your taste off. Want to hear what you guys
- 43:08Speaker 2: have to say. Whether it's about the game, what I
- 43:13Speaker 2: just talked about as far as Norville, winning a certain
- 43:14Speaker 2: amount of games, whatever it may be. Talk shit about Florida-Lewin.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Talk about the Miami-Clemson game.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Let's get it.
- 43:21Speaker 2: The call line is open. I know we got a
- 43:24Speaker 2: certain amount of viewing from Twitter as well. Make sure
- 43:27Speaker 2: you guys come over to the YouTube portion if you
- 43:29Speaker 2: want to get your takes off.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Hit that like and subscribe button.
- 43:35Speaker 2: And the Super Chat portion is open as well. Can
- 43:40Speaker 2: Norvell win any road games the remainder of the season?
- 43:43Speaker 2: We're about to find out. We're definitely about to find out.
- 43:48Speaker 2: That's my biggest question mark, man. We saw that. We
- 43:52Speaker 2: haven't won a true road game since 2023. We always
- 43:55Speaker 2: look completely different from how we play on the road
- 43:58Speaker 2: versus home. We'll definitely find out. On Friday nights, and
- 44:03Speaker 2: this isn't just a Mike Norvell thing. This is a
- 44:06Speaker 2: Florida State thing, right, brothers? Norvell, Willie Taggart Jimbo Fisher,
- 44:12Speaker 2: Friday nights always are weird, not in a good way
- 44:17Speaker 2: for FSU.
- 44:19Speaker 1: So we'll see how things play out.
- 44:20Speaker 2: So you factor that in on top of this damn
- 44:22Speaker 2: team hasn't, well, this staff, Norvell, rather, I'm not going
- 44:25Speaker 2: to say this team because this is a completely different team,
- 44:28Speaker 2: but Norvell himself hasn't won a road game since 2023.
- 44:40Speaker 2: How do we match up against Louisville on both sides
- 44:42Speaker 2: of the ball? Haven't really done a deep dive on that.
- 44:44Speaker 2: We're going to get our Louisville guest on. I got
- 44:46Speaker 2: to reach out to him and get him on for
- 44:48Speaker 2: this upcoming week to preview the Louisville game. Going to
- 44:51Speaker 2: jump on that ASAP. But haven't really done that too much.
- 44:56Speaker 2: We do know they have explosive receivers on the outside.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Dwayne McCoy is one of them. This quarterback, he can
- 45:01Speaker 1: hurt you. He can run the football as well.
- 45:03Speaker 2: He... He's one of those, he reminds me of Baker
- 45:06Speaker 2: Mayfield a little bit, one of those high risk, high
- 45:08Speaker 2: reward type of guys. He can put the ball in
- 45:10Speaker 2: some dangerous situations, but at the same damn time, that
- 45:13Speaker 2: is one of his better attributes as well, putting the
- 45:17Speaker 2: ball in dangerous situations, just playing that style of football
- 45:19Speaker 2: because it benefits him as well too. But again, one
- 45:23Speaker 2: of our Achilles heels has been pass coverage, zone matching,
- 45:26Speaker 2: that type of deal. They have receivers that can beat
- 45:28Speaker 2: us in that regard, and they have a quarterback that
- 45:30Speaker 2: can beat us as well too. And A guy that
- 45:32Speaker 2: can move around and run around, so we have to
- 45:35Speaker 2: do a good job from a pass rush standpoint. Same
- 45:37Speaker 2: type of shit we did yesterday round. We've got to
- 45:40Speaker 2: do it again against Louisville from a pass rush standpoint.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Can't give them all day in the pocket and let
- 45:44Speaker 2: them move around and extend plays to make it hard
- 45:48Speaker 2: on our secondary. So it has to be another collective
- 45:52Speaker 2: effort from the secondary and the defense line in this
- 45:56Speaker 2: Louisville game, in my opinion.
- 46:01Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Again, if you want to join the show, call in
- 46:05Speaker 2: Portioneers Open. All callers are welcome. Whatever you want to
- 46:09Speaker 2: get your takes off, let us know. Let's discuss. Hit
- 46:12Speaker 2: that like and subscribe button if you haven't already. I'm
- 46:17Speaker 2: going to give a shout out to our sponsor, FastPay
- 46:19Speaker 2: as well. I'm sorry, ClickSpan, not FastPay.
- 46:25Speaker 1: My apologies. ClickSpan.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Any type of business expenses, we got you. Shout out
- 46:34Speaker 2: to Alicia Knows 5666. Play my theme music. No theme
- 46:47Speaker 2: music today.
- 46:48Speaker 1: What's up, y'all? Shout out to Alicia. What's up, everyone?
- 46:50Speaker 2: I prefer they keep Mike instead of pay 30 mil additionally. Instead,
- 46:55Speaker 2: pay 30 mil additionally to all the players. We have
- 46:58Speaker 2: to spend way more on players, period. I do agree
- 47:01Speaker 2: we've got to spend more on players, period. But at
- 47:02Speaker 2: the same time, Alicia, we've got to be smarter with
- 47:05Speaker 2: our spending as well, too. When I say smarter with
- 47:07Speaker 2: our spending, we can't go cheap in the quarter for
- 47:10Speaker 2: a quarterback, which is something Mike Norvell has been notorious for.
- 47:13Speaker 2: We can't do that. We can't pay a running back
- 47:16Speaker 2: that isn't, quote-unquote, a huge need, a huge amount of
- 47:22Speaker 2: money in the transfer portal as well. And that money
- 47:24Speaker 2: could have been allocated towards better support in cash. I
- 47:27Speaker 2: could have threw more money at a quarterback position and
- 47:31Speaker 2: offensive line and that type of deal. So, right, I
- 47:33Speaker 2: agree that we need more money on additional spending for
- 47:38Speaker 2: players for sure. We also have to be smart with
- 47:40Speaker 2: how we allocate those funds as well.
- 47:45Speaker 1: That's my take on that. Appreciate you, Alicia.
- 47:48Speaker 2: I saw a wide-ass open hole and I just hit
- 47:50Speaker 2: that bitch. Shout out to Caleb LeBron, man. Shout out
- 48:08Speaker 2: to my guy, Bo, Hall of Fame, Bo. Appreciate it
- 48:11Speaker 2: a lot, bro. Trey Weiser is still, I still wish
- 48:15Speaker 2: we had, of course, most definitely.
- 48:17Speaker 1: But he had a great game for us.
- 48:18Speaker 2: And I do think, and I don't like to kind
- 48:21Speaker 2: of pile on Trey. I do think he's a solid
- 48:23Speaker 2: backing and really good depth piece for sure. But again,
- 48:27Speaker 2: it's just a certain amount of money we paid for him.
- 48:29Speaker 2: It wasn't a necessity. Then you have, just that running
- 48:32Speaker 2: back room overall is pretty good. Amari Thomas, true freshman. Um,
- 48:36Speaker 2: If you guys know that play, it was a screen,
- 48:38Speaker 2: the double pass, screen pass, whatever the little trick play
- 48:44Speaker 2: Mike Novell did. If Landon Thomas blocks that guy, if
- 48:48Speaker 2: he blocks that guy, Thomas is, Amari Thomas is pretty
- 48:52Speaker 2: much off to the races for a touchdown. I mean,
- 48:53Speaker 2: it was a damn wall of Seminoles trying to block
- 48:57Speaker 2: the broadcaster mentioning that as well, too. But, again, he
- 49:01Speaker 2: turned that play into like a, It should have been
- 49:03Speaker 2: a loss, like a five or six yard game. But
- 49:05Speaker 2: that's another really talented back that we have. So I
- 49:08Speaker 2: say that to say this. Our running back room is
- 49:11Speaker 2: pretty damn good. So we didn't really need to spend
- 49:13Speaker 2: that much money in the portal on a running back.
- 49:17Speaker 2: We paid Cromwell a pretty healthy price. penny to decommit
- 49:24Speaker 2: from Georgia and flip him from Georgia. You pay him
- 49:27Speaker 2: the money, you got to be your workhorse. You got
- 49:30Speaker 2: to give him the rock. We've seen the development and
- 49:34Speaker 2: how good Sam has gotten over the years from two
- 49:39Speaker 2: years ago on 24th First jump on the scene, what,
- 49:41Speaker 2: kick return against Duke again, you know, last year and
- 49:43Speaker 2: to this year. So I say all that to say this,
- 49:46Speaker 2: we really didn't need to spend that type of money. So, again,
- 49:50Speaker 2: I agree that we need more money for players. But, again,
- 49:54Speaker 2: you have to be smart with that money as well, too. But, yeah,
- 49:59Speaker 2: I really like Amari Thomas. That kid is going to
- 50:01Speaker 2: be damn good. I remember the spring practice I went to.
- 50:06Speaker 2: he just jumped out immediately as a guy that he
- 50:08Speaker 2: was supposed to be in high school, right? But he
- 50:10Speaker 2: looked like an SEC running back. Like, the kid was built.
- 50:14Speaker 2: I mean, real shifty. He's going to be a player
- 50:17Speaker 2: for FSU in the future for sure. All right, we
- 50:20Speaker 2: don't got no callers today, you guys.
- 50:23Speaker 1: This is the first. Secondary play is still shaky. Hoping
- 50:31Speaker 1: to see improvement there. Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 2: I mean, Virginia definitely had a few drops and some
- 50:34Speaker 2: guys that were kind of running wide open, that type
- 50:37Speaker 2: of deal. But they did improve for sure. It wasn't
- 50:40Speaker 2: the total debacle that we've been seeing. They have gotten better.
- 50:43Speaker 2: So I do agree. Still need to keep improving.
- 50:46Speaker 1: We got another one.
- 50:47Speaker 2: We ain't leaving without a victory.
- 50:50Speaker 1: We ain't leaving without a victory. Shout out to Jameis, man.
- 50:54Speaker 1: That's exactly what the nose did.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Shout out to Alicia again for the donation with the
- 50:58Speaker 2: super chat. agree 100% about the quarterback, CJ. Why don't
- 51:02Speaker 2: they play Malachi? I'm dying to see Malachi play. I'm
- 51:05Speaker 2: out to 100%. I thought even in yesterday's Virginia game,
- 51:10Speaker 2: since their score was out of hand at a certain point,
- 51:12Speaker 2: I would kind of see those guys get in. The
- 51:15Speaker 2: main issue with that is I don't believe that against
- 51:17Speaker 2: New Mexico State and against Central Arkansas, we just didn't
- 51:20Speaker 2: do what we need to do as a team collectively
- 51:23Speaker 2: to get those guys on the field. Last week, I
- 51:25Speaker 2: think Mike November made a big-ass mistake in not in
- 51:29Speaker 2: playing Sperry versus Malachi on that drive. I believe he
- 51:33Speaker 2: should have went with Malachi on that drive for sure
- 51:35Speaker 2: instead of Kevin Sperry. But I do know his plan
- 51:39Speaker 2: was to play both of those quarterbacks, and he was
- 51:41Speaker 2: hoping that defense got the ball back because Marshall was
- 51:43Speaker 2: warming up and ready to get in. The defense just
- 51:46Speaker 2: couldn't stop Central Arkansas to go out the damn field. And,
- 51:49Speaker 2: of course, Central Arkansas ended the game with the ball.
- 51:51Speaker 1: We never got it back.
- 51:52Speaker 2: So the main reason we haven't seen those guys play
- 51:55Speaker 2: is just we haven't fucking did our job as far
- 51:58Speaker 2: as finishing these teams and blowing.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Those guys out.
- 52:01Speaker 2: But I thought we'd sit a little bit against Virginia.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Never did. But, again, that's the reason why.
- 52:06Speaker 1: But I agree. Malachi Marshall is a player.
- 52:08Speaker 2: I truly wish he was able to enroll in the
- 52:12Speaker 2: spring and not in the summer and go through spring
- 52:14Speaker 2: practice just in third. Because at that point in time,
- 52:16Speaker 2: I really– I think he's the most talented pass on
- 52:19Speaker 2: the team for sure.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Has the best arm.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Just needs to get coached up on the playbook and
- 52:24Speaker 2: develop a little bit more physically. So I feel like
- 52:26Speaker 2: if it had came in the spring, it would have
- 52:27Speaker 2: been no-brainer. It would have been the guy moving forward,
- 52:29Speaker 2: in my opinion. Appreciate the super chat, Alicia. Chris Jones
- 52:34Speaker 2: played like something, man. I've been saying all offseason, man,
- 52:38Speaker 2: all offseason, that was probably our most important transfer portal
- 52:44Speaker 2: get was Chris Jones. I've been saying that shit all offseason.
- 52:47Speaker 2: He was a hell of a player for Southern Miss,
- 52:49Speaker 2: and he's been showing that thus far in the season, right?
- 52:53Speaker 1: We know coming into the season.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Well, last year rather, the past few years, ever since
- 52:57Speaker 2: we lost Caden Deloach, Tatum Bethune, linebacker has been a
- 53:01Speaker 2: major weakness for FSU, right? A major weakness. And we
- 53:04Speaker 2: tried different guys in transfer court. It just hasn't worked.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Chris Jones was a perfect addition. Baber as well, too.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Really good player. He's been making players for us, man.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Shout out to Ernie Sims, too. All of that shit,
- 53:20Speaker 2: what's the word I want to use? Zip. It starts
- 53:23Speaker 2: at the top from a leadership standpoint, right? Attitude, this, that,
- 53:26Speaker 2: and the third. It starts from the top. John Patuas
- 53:28Speaker 2: was the linebacker coach previously, and you throw in Ernie Sims, man,
- 53:32Speaker 2: I'm telling you, the energy, it's like a complete 180
- 53:34Speaker 2: in that room, man.
- 53:36Speaker 1: It's a complete 180.
- 53:37Speaker 2: That same maniac we seen in Ernie Sims when he
- 53:42Speaker 2: was playing for FSU, this, that, and third, you see
- 53:45Speaker 2: that same intensity in coaching, man. It's like once Ernie...
- 53:49Speaker 2: He's the greatest golfer downfield. Once he gets on that grass, man,
- 53:52Speaker 2: it's like a switch. And he's locked in, and he's
- 53:54Speaker 2: coaching those guys to that level, and they're responding to it.
- 53:58Speaker 2: They're responding to it. So, I want to give a
- 53:59Speaker 2: shout-out to Ernie as well. So, yes, Chris Jones is
- 54:01Speaker 2: playing well. The linebacker group overall is playing really well,
- 54:05Speaker 2: and I think it starts from the leadership at the
- 54:06Speaker 2: top down. And, of course, you bring in good players
- 54:08Speaker 2: like Chris Jones, Makai Baber, and that type of deal.
- 54:13Speaker 2: LaValley is finally getting healthy. You're seeing him make plays. So,
- 54:19Speaker 2: And also drew a blank. What's number nine? My apologies.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Omar Graham. Omar Graham, too. He's playing his best football
- 54:29Speaker 1: as well.
- 54:29Speaker 2: I know he's a fifth-year senior, something along those lines.
- 54:33Speaker 1: But this is the best ball that Omar Graham has
- 54:34Speaker 1: played in his tenure at Florida State.
- 54:36Speaker 2: And I don't think it's a secret as far as
- 54:39Speaker 2: it's the coaching job that Ernie Simmons has done with
- 54:42Speaker 2: the linebacker unit. But, yeah, that's where we're at, man. So,
- 54:54Speaker 2: we'll see how things stand. This is going to be
- 54:56Speaker 2: a big test for FSU. Friday night going to roll
- 54:59Speaker 2: to Louisville. We'll really see what this team is truly
- 55:02Speaker 2: made of. You guys know me, man.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I'm going.
- 55:07Speaker 2: To tweet it out quick as far as booking your rooms.
- 55:11Speaker 2: We'll see because this ACC shit, man, I don't know.
- 55:13Speaker 2: I think there's one team for sure that's going to
- 55:15Speaker 2: be in Charlotte, and that's Miami. The rest of them, man,
- 55:18Speaker 2: is really wide open. I guess SMU.
- 55:21Speaker 1: I'm not even sure.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Did SMU play last? Let me check on. Did SMU
- 55:25Speaker 2: even play last week or where they at? I'm pretty
- 55:27Speaker 2: sure they're probably maybe still undefeated in the ACC.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Yeah, SMU.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Did they beat Boston College 25-16? I don't know. The
- 55:39Speaker 2: SMU loss did hurt.
- 55:40Speaker 1: It definitely hurt. The SMU loss, that hurt for sure.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Who did SMU lose to? Well, Louisville. They lost to Louisville.
- 55:56Speaker 1: So they have one ACC loss. So that's going to
- 55:58Speaker 1: be interesting.
- 55:58Speaker 2: So this is SMU scaled the rest of the way.
- 56:01Speaker 2: They have Virginia this upcoming week. That's going to be
- 56:03Speaker 2: a pretty big game. They have Cal, Syracuse, Virginia Tech.
- 56:07Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting one. Wake Forest is
- 56:10Speaker 2: an interesting one. And then they have Notre Dame, which
- 56:13Speaker 2: doesn't count for the conference. They finished off with Stanford.
- 56:16Speaker 2: So they play Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Virginia. It's
- 56:21Speaker 2: going to be interesting, man. This ACC is wide open.
- 56:25Speaker 2: It's wide open. I won't say it this week, but
- 56:28Speaker 2: if we beat Louisville and I think we lose against
- 56:32Speaker 2: Miami and possibly lose against Clemson or possibly win against Clemson,
- 56:36Speaker 2: maybe saying, let's.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Put it this way.
- 56:39Speaker 2: I may be saying either fire Mike Norvell after this
- 56:41Speaker 2: four-game stretch. Mike Norvell is going to be fired or
- 56:43Speaker 2: I'm going to be saying book your room for Charlotte.
- 56:45Speaker 2: It's going to be one of those two options for
- 56:46Speaker 2: the most part how it's kind of looking, to be
- 56:48Speaker 2: honest with you.
- 56:49Speaker 1: So we'll see how it plays out either way.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Next few weeks, we're going to be saying fire Mike Norvell,
- 56:53Speaker 2: and we're going to be firing up coaching searches, this, that,
- 56:55Speaker 2: and third, or we're going to be talking about the
- 56:58Speaker 2: big tailgate in Charlotte.
- 57:00Speaker 1: That's pretty much how I see it because this ACC
- 57:02Speaker 1: is really wide open.
- 57:02Speaker 2: I think Miami is going to be the only team
- 57:05Speaker 2: for sure that has a lock in Charlotte.
- 57:09Speaker 1: That'd be crazy, right? We've been wanting this shit for
- 57:10Speaker 1: how long?
- 57:11Speaker 2: They joined the ACC in 2004, if I'm not mistaken, 2004, 2005.
- 57:16Speaker 1: We never had a Florida State-Miami game.
- 57:21Speaker 2: ACC game championship matchup, which is what ACC wanted when
- 57:25Speaker 2: they first brought Miami in.
- 57:27Speaker 1: It was supposed to be their annual rematch every year.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Never happened.
- 57:31Speaker 2: But, yeah, the SMU Laws definitely heard we should be
- 57:34Speaker 2: undefeated in the conference play right now. But this conference
- 57:36Speaker 2: really is wide open. We'll see how things play out.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Nobody really wanted to join the show from a calling standpoint,
- 57:42Speaker 2: so we're going to end it, wrap it up right here. Again,
- 57:45Speaker 2: 10 sacks, man, 10 sacks. Very impressive effort from the
- 57:50Speaker 2: defensive line. especially early on, not getting pressure, not getting sacks, man.
- 57:55Speaker 2: I got to give my hats off to those guys.
- 57:57Speaker 2: I predicted a win for FSU. I thought it would
- 57:59Speaker 2: be a close one, but I did not see a
- 58:02Speaker 2: 38-7 ass-whooping. I mean, don't camera state him by Florida
- 58:06Speaker 2: State on the Virginia Cavaliers. Make sure you guys hit
- 58:08Speaker 2: that like and subscribe button. We have Louisville upcoming this week.
- 58:11Speaker 2: These next few weeks is going to be really interesting
- 58:13Speaker 2: for Florida State one way or another. Like I said,
- 58:17Speaker 2: after this four-game ACC stretch, My take is going to
- 58:21Speaker 2: be either for all the coaching searches, we'll find Mark
- 58:24Speaker 2: Norville or book
