- 0:00Welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. This is Ariel Santana.

- 0:10Ladies and gentlemen, your host, my dad, Angel Santana.
- 0:47Hello, everyone, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. Welcome back.
- 0:51My name is Angel Santana, and I'm so grateful that you've joined me today.
- 0:54Welcome to Slow Down, Finding God in a World That Never Stops,
- 0:59a 10-part devotional journal and series designed to help you pause,
- 1:04breathe, and discover God's presence in the middle of everyday life. This is episode two.
- 1:11Yesterday, we talked about slowing down enough to notice the miracles that God places in front of us.
- 1:17Today, we're taking the next step.
- 1:20We're going to talk about kindness. Not the kind of kindness that's based on
- 1:25convenience, but the kind of kindness that reflects the heart of Christ.
- 1:31Because someone or somewhere along the line or along the way,
- 1:36our world started believing that kindness is weakness.
- 1:41And the Bible tells us a very different story.
- 1:45Let's get started.
- 1:49Here's a biblical perspective. Our primary scripture today will come from Proverbs 15, verse 1.
- 1:58A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
- 2:04King Solomon, known for his God-given wisdom, understood something that still holds true today.
- 2:13Our words have incredible power. they can calm a storm or create one.
- 2:18The book of Proverbs was written to teach God's people how to live wisely.
- 2:24This verse reminds us the strength isn't found in speaking the loudest or winning every argument.
- 2:31True wisdom is displayed through self-control and gentleness.
- 2:36Now, let's look at the life of Jesus.
- 2:39Matthew 11, verse 29. Jesus says, take my yoke upon you and learn from me for
- 2:47I am gentle and humble in the heart and you will find rest for your souls.
- 2:55Think about that. The king of kings described himself as gentle, not weak. Gentle.
- 3:01Jesus had all authority, all power, all wisdom.
- 3:05Yet he chose compassion over cruelty, grace over pride, and love over revenge. That's not weakness.
- 3:14That's strength completely surrendering or surrendered to God.
- 3:18Have you noticed how quickly people react today? Someone cuts us off in traffic.
- 3:23A harsh comment appears online.
- 3:26A disagreement turns into an argument.
- 3:28Too often our first instinct is to respond immediately.
- 3:32But what if slowing down, even for a few seconds, could completely change the outcome?
- 3:40Kindness gives us that pause. Kindness allows us to choose grace before anger.
- 3:47Jesus did this consistently. And people insulted him, questioned him, rejected him.
- 3:55Yet he continued to respond with truth wrapped in love.
- 3:59Imagine if every conversation began with this question, how can I reflect Jesus in this moment?
- 4:06Would our homes be different? Would our workplaces feel different?
- 4:10Would our churches become places where healing happens instead of division?
- 4:15Kindness doesn't ignore the truth.
- 4:18It delivers truth with love. It doesn't mean we never disagree.
- 4:23It means we never forget that the person standing in front of us is someone deeply loved by God.
- 4:31Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is lower your voice.
- 4:35Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is apologize. And sometimes the greatest
- 4:40victory isn't proving that you're right.
- 4:43It's preserving the relationship. Thank you.
- 4:46When we slow down, we make room for kindness. And kindness opens doors that anger never could.
- 4:53So here's a heart check for you. Let's pause together.
- 4:57Is there someone you've spoken to harshly this week? Have your words reflected the heart of Jesus?
- 5:05When people interact with you, do they leave feeling encouraged or defeated?
- 5:12Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart today.
- 5:15Ask Him to reveal any place where kindness has been replaced with frustration, impatience, or pride.
- 5:23So, here is your faith challenge for today.
- 5:26Choose one intentional act of kindness, not because someone deserves it,
- 5:31but because Christ first showed kindness to you.
- 5:35Send a text encouraging someone. Write a thank you note. Call someone who has been on your heart.
- 5:41Offer forgiveness. Smile at
- 5:44someone who looks discouraged Or simply stop long enough to truly listen,
- 5:50At the end of the day, ask yourself Did someone experience the love of Jesus
- 5:55because of the way I treated them today?
- 5:59Kindness isn't weakness It's Christ-like It's Christ-like strength under control,
- 6:05Carry that way with you today Here's your closing thought.
- 6:10Our world has enough criticism, enough division, enough anger.
- 6:15Followers of Jesus are called to offer something different.
- 6:19Kindness doesn't make us less courageous. Makes us more Christ-like.
- 6:24And perhaps the greatest testimony we can give isn't found in the arguments
- 6:29we win, but in the love we chose to show.
- 6:33So slow down today. Choose gentleness. Choose grace. Choose kindness.
- 6:41Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for showing us perfect kindness through your Son, Jesus Christ.
- 6:47Forgive us for the times we've allowed anger, impatience, or pride to guide our words and actions.
- 6:55Teach us to respond with gentleness, wisdom, and compassion.
- 7:00Help us remember that every person we meet is created in your image and worthy of dignity and respect.
- 7:09May our words bring healing. May our actions reflect your love.
- 7:13And may people see Jesus in us through the kindness we chose every single day.
- 7:20We ask this in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
- 7:24Amen. So before I leave you today, I'd like to personally invite you to join
- 7:28me this Sunday, this Sunday, August 9th at First Reformed Church.
- 7:33Here, I'll be sharing a message and it's titled, finding peace in the world
- 7:37that never stops. Sound familiar?
- 7:40If today's conversation encouraged you, I believe this message will continue
- 7:44that journey as we discover what God's word teaches about slowing down,
- 7:49choosing peace, and walking with Christ.
