- 0:22Speaker 2: and to be a model of godliness.

- 0:29Speaker 2: these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
- 0:36Speaker 2: So Ephesis was a city in ancient Greece, which is
- 0:43Speaker 2: that city is now located or would be located in
- 0:46Speaker 2: modern day Turkey. Okay, So the first Epistle to Timothy
- 0:50Speaker 2: is a pastoral letter addressing how Timothy should guide the church.
- 0:54Speaker 2: In a fesis, Paul outlines the importance of sound doctrine,
- 0:58Speaker 2: proper conduct, and the values that ought to underpin Christian leadership.
- 1:03Speaker 1: The Thesis, as I said, was a city in ancient Greece.
- 1:07Speaker 2: In the previous verses of chapter six, Paul warns against
- 1:10Speaker 2: false teachings, greed, and the love of money, emphasizing how
- 1:15Speaker 2: these can lead people away from the faith. He highlights
- 1:18Speaker 2: the empty pursuit of wealth and the dangers of compromising
- 1:22Speaker 2: one's morals and values for material gain, which is a
- 1:26Speaker 2: big problem here in our current world. In verse eleven,
- 1:31Speaker 2: Paul contrasts Timothy with those who fall into the traps
- 1:34Speaker 2: of falsehood and greed most of America, most of the
- 1:37Speaker 2: world by this time. By calling Timothy a man of God,
- 1:40Speaker 2: Paul affirms Timothy's role and responsibility. This is Paul's attempt
- 1:44Speaker 2: to encourage Timothy. Paul urges Timothy to flee these things.
- 1:49Speaker 2: This emphasizes the need to avoid pitfalls of false doctrine
- 1:53Speaker 2: and the love of money. Instead, Timothy has called to
- 1:56Speaker 2: pursue virtues that reflect the character of Christ. Again, it's
- 2:00Speaker 2: the love of money, the pursuit of the love of money.
- 2:04Speaker 1: It's not money. Money is not the root of all need.
- 2:07Speaker 2: The love of money, the pursuit of money, that's the
- 2:11Speaker 2: root of all e The pursuit of virtue is also
- 2:15Speaker 2: a part that Paul outlines, where several characteristics for Timothy
- 2:18Speaker 2: to pursuits. One of them is virtue the nextest righteousness,
- 2:22Speaker 2: where you live in a way that is morally right
- 2:25Speaker 2: and just. The next virtue is godlness, having a deep
- 2:28Speaker 2: reverence for God and living in a manner that honors him.
- 2:31Speaker 2: The next is faith, trusting in God and his promises,
- 2:34Speaker 2: leading to a life of obedience. The nextest love, exhibiting
- 2:38Speaker 2: unconditional love towards others. Another virtue patience, showing endurance in
- 2:43Speaker 2: the face of challenges and difficulties. Next gentleness, approaching others
- 2:49Speaker 2: with kindness and humility. Paul's encouragement to Timothy extends beyond
- 2:54Speaker 2: individual virtues and emphasizes the importance of setting a good
- 2:57Speaker 2: example for others in the church. Leaders are to embody
- 3:01Speaker 2: these qualities so that their life can be a testimony
- 3:04Speaker 2: to those they lead. The teachers in the teachings in
- 3:08Speaker 2: One Timothy contain both specific guidance for Timothy and broader
- 3:12Speaker 2: principles for all believers. Timothy is to flee from temptation
- 3:16Speaker 2: and instead of cultivated a life of integrity and virtue,
- 3:19Speaker 2: serving as a model of faith and action. This call
- 3:23Speaker 2: remains relevant to Christians today, reminding them to prioritize a
- 3:26Speaker 2: godly life in pursuit of righteousness, love, and faithfulness.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And if you're not paying attention.
- 3:32Speaker 2: You should This day and age is a day in
- 3:37Speaker 2: age where we are not prioritizing a godly life in
- 3:39Speaker 2: pursuit of righteousness, love, and faithfulness. What's going on today
- 3:44Speaker 2: is just a prime example of the opposite of what
- 3:47Speaker 2: I'm speaking about today. But you, by focusing on these
- 3:51Speaker 2: virtuous pursuits, you, Timothy, all believers can effectively resist temptation
- 3:58Speaker 2: and influence others positively within the community of faith. So
