Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Big announcement this morning on n CEA and its future.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Will it be scrapped entirely? Will parts of it be kept?
- 0:06Speaker 1: We'll find out by nine o'clock this morning. Consultation will
- 0:09Speaker 1: be launched on up the wazoo. You can imagine the teachers,
- 0:12Speaker 1: the parents, industry will have a chance to have a say, Chris,
- 0:15Speaker 1: have a Crombie is the PPTA president, Chris, good morning,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning. Have you seen what.
- 0:20Speaker 2: The plan is? No? No, I'm not getting a briefing
- 0:23Speaker 2: until a weave it beforehand.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Okay, And what do you think they're going to do
- 0:27Speaker 1: is throw it in the bin and start again or
- 0:29Speaker 1: keep some bits.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Well, there's some really good bits to it, and so
- 0:33Speaker 2: hopefully they build on the system. Of course, it's not perfect.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We know this, and in recent years has been really
- 0:38Speaker 2: whitet agreement on improvements needed. So we hope we don't
- 0:41Speaker 2: throw it out and we just improve on what we need.
- 0:43Speaker 1: What's the biggest thing that needs improvement? Is it the
- 0:47Speaker 1: you know, the consistency depending on what you're studying, or
- 0:50Speaker 1: is it the way that things are assessed.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It's a bit of both. So we need we know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: we need a bit more coherency and around subjects and
- 0:59Speaker 2: again development in that area. And we also just need
- 1:02Speaker 2: to weave a more issue in making clear vocational pathways
- 1:05Speaker 2: and just a simpler structure.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So what does that mean making clear the vocational pathways.
- 1:11Speaker 1: If you don't want to go to university, then there's
- 1:13Speaker 1: something else for you to do, and this is how you.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Do it exactly. So at the moment, it's really reliant
- 1:19Speaker 2: on schools and their relationship with local polytechs, businesses, et cetera.
- 1:23Speaker 2: There's no real clear national pathways and so someone around
- 1:26Speaker 2: that area would be fantastic.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Getting the schools closer to the polytechs.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Well, it could be poly techs, could be business, could
- 1:34Speaker 2: be other things. Schools do amazing things through gateway programs
- 1:36Speaker 2: and other work experience programs, but there's no real national
- 1:41Speaker 2: policy around. This is all schools leaving it up to
- 1:44Speaker 2: themselves in their relationships with individual businesses polytechs. If they
- 1:47Speaker 2: happened to have one in their community.
- 1:50Speaker 1: What's the one thing you don't want them to go near.
- 1:53Speaker 2: We'd hate for it to scrap the standards based assessment
- 1:55Speaker 2: because at the heart of it, it's about rewarding students
- 1:58Speaker 2: what for what they know and they can demonstrating their knowledge,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and they have all opportunities to succeed the older system
- 2:04Speaker 2: which had a built in failure rate. We don't want
- 2:07Speaker 2: to see that happen.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Chris, appreciate your time. Chris abercrombi ppt A.
