- 1:56the bizarre story out of South Charleston yesterday where there was a shooting at crow
- 2:00Jeff Jenkins is going to join us from the newsroom to talk about that coming
- 2:02up a little bit later on. Plus lots about party changes here as of
- 2:07well, this is not something new that we've had a lot of people that
- 2:09have been changing parties with the last several years, most let's say, the
- 2:13overwhelming majority going from a Democrat to a Republican. A high ranking person in
- 2:21a very well known person in Kanau County has announced, actually didn't announce it,
- 2:24it showed up on the Secretary of State's website that they have switched from
- 2:29Democrat to Republican. And we're going to talk to Republican strategist Greg Thomas about
- 2:34that, coming up a little bit later on. What's up with all these
- 2:36people switching parties? We want to talk about that with Greg coming up a
- 2:38little bit later on. But stra callson textter welcome Biggley, Piggley Wiggily hot

- 2:49you know every Monday we bring a different mayor into the show to talk about
- 2:52things going out of their town. Making his debut on the show today.
- 2:54I'm very happy to have with us another Dave Steve Fletcher, the mayor of
- 3:00Belle. Good morning, sir, how are you? Good morning? Dave?
- 3:02Stepping a little close to that microphone for me there and here you go.
- 3:06How's that? Good morning? But doing very well and glad to be
- 3:09with you today, just to talk about a few things that's happening up in
- 3:15the Bell area. And it is, as you said, it is my
- 3:20first time here and but I'm glad that you invited me and glad to be
- 3:25here. What's new in town? Had been You've got a specific at vent
- 3:29work. We'll talk about that's happening this weekend. We'll talk about that a
- 3:31little bit later on. But other than that, what's new going on to
- 3:35Bell? What you got? We've actually been doing some work, uh,
- 3:38kind of on our beautification projects. We've got the main facade that's when you
- 3:46come into Bail by the four lane and everything there. We've actually been talking
- 3:50about getting that painting. We have started painting some of the bus stops and
- 3:55everything in Bail. Our neighboring partners at Bell Chemical Company. Actually when you
- 4:02come out of the old DuPont Plan underpass, which now the Kimore's Plant and
- 4:08then the other partner in there's Bell Chemical Company. Bell Chemical Company is actually
- 4:13going to paint that underpass and everything. So trying to spruce Bell up in
- 4:17the area somewhat. And besides that, our infrastructure is old. Most of
- 4:24the infrastructure was put in the ground sewer and storm rains back in nineteen nineteen
- 4:30twenties and thirties by WPA. And for the record, you weren't there then,
- 4:33Oh no, I wasn't there. Okay, wanting to twink one.
- 4:38My dad's up let to clarify that. Okay, go ahead. But we
- 4:42have actually done some work on started on one street now. We were actually
- 4:47able to pick up a grand about eight hundred thousand dollars. The project was
- 4:53right at eight fifty. So we're pretty uh, you know, happy to
- 4:58get that done and at least to start that street and I actually get some
- 5:01other things started. We have not replaced the whole sewer line or storm brain
- 5:06line in the town of Belle Forever, and so that's very important to us.
- 5:13We really have a lot of aging problems. We go in and doing
- 5:17a lot of patches and everything else. And the good thing about that was
- 5:23was we were able to partner with Westini American Water, so they actually have
- 5:29gone in there and now they're replacing the water line on that street and Mountaineer
- 5:33Gases come in and replace some of the liter roles and everything on that street.
- 5:38So when we get this street paved, possibly about the first of June,
- 5:43this street, we're hoping that no utility companies come in and I actually
- 5:47dig it up again to disturb that brand new street. We're talking with David
- 5:51Fletcher's the mayor of Belle here on five eighty Live. It's smare money.
- 5:56Give us some highlights, mayor of living in Bell. What makes Bell such
- 5:59a town. It's it's a small, sleepy town. We have very little
- 6:03crime. We've got police officers, uh you know, patrolling right now.
- 6:11We do not have twenty four hour protection, but you know, we're constantly
- 6:15looking for police officers, which you know, you hear that every day about
- 6:19police officers in West Virginia. Everybody has a hard time just retaining them,
- 6:26so you know, that's the big thing. And you know, our community
- 6:29mainly is a lot of retired people, most of them retired from like the
- 6:34area DuPont Plan and our occidental chemical which is now long gone, but it's
- 6:42a just a small, sleepy town. You know, we're still looking for,
- 6:47you know, a grocery store, We're looking for restaurants, We're looking
- 6:51for anything to come in. So we're all the time, you know,
- 6:55trying to figure out what we can bring in to just kind of jump start
- 7:00the town a little bit. What let's talk about when you go on the
- 7:03lookout trying to bring it, let's say, a grocery store in or a
- 7:06restaurant or something like that. What goes into that? And how do you
- 7:11decide who to talk to and do you have a good team around you?
- 7:14How does that work? Yeah, I mean our recorder and council members now,
- 7:19I mean, you know we pretty much talk about that almost ever council
- 7:23meeting. And then sometimes if we're just sitting around just discussing things or talking
- 7:29amongst herself, it's always something. And the thing is we're kind of landlocked,
- 7:35you know when you come past the old DuPont plant came horse Plant,
- 7:40and then come up to the other end of town, which is where Boyd
- 7:44Caterpillar is now formerly Walker. So you know, from the river to the
- 7:48hillside, it's pretty limited, you know, spaces that we've got we had
- 7:53the Family Dollar go out of there. We were trying to look for something
- 7:57there and then we ended up with a storage facility that went in there.
- 8:01It's climate controlled and all that. So those are you know, something that
- 8:07you know has come into town. Now we picked up the bank uh there
- 8:11approximately almost year and a half, two years ago. Now, uh,
- 8:16Honeyton Banks had had an office there and decided to close one branch in West
- 8:20Virginia and it was the branch in Bell. Uh so I sought out you
- 8:26know, some some banks had a couple of bids from a couple of different
- 8:30banks and everything, and Whitesville State Bank won that bid, and so they
- 8:33opened up there and uh, you know it's been good for the bank.
- 8:37It's growing and and everything is looking up, you know, on that side
- 8:43of the economic status for Bell. We've got our local places that have been
- 8:50there for years. Boyd Caterpillars there. You know, we still got our
- 8:54funeral home, we still got the Parmar store in town U and then besides
- 9:00that, we've got uh you know, wholesale transmission, the bank, and
- 9:05then we've got Perry's Animal Hospital and you know, several things there. But
- 9:11we are missing kind of the restaurant or small Delhi or something some kind of
- 9:16a little small convenience store other than Parmo, because you know a lot of
- 9:22people will go to Parmer and pick up things every day, but it'll be
- 9:26nice to have an actual restaurant there. So attention entrepreneurs if you're listening this
- 9:31morning, to be a great place to put in like a little diner or
- 9:35as you said, a Delhi or something like that Shorewood, and we would
- 9:39welcome, uh, we'd be glad to talk to them and uh, you
- 9:41know, try to see what we need to do to help them out and
- 9:46make things happen there. Another thing that we really in most towns are in
- 9:50Canoa Valley area has been working on is dilapidated structure. Oh yeah, uh
- 9:56we've right now we've got about seven structures and a mark can him in the
- 10:00town of Belle and uh so we're working with Kana County Commission and to have
- 10:05that, you know, had those places taken down hopefully maybe spurs mentors either
- 10:11with some new housing or new business places up front. We're talking with the
- 10:16mayor of Belle, David Fletcher here on the mayor of Monday on five eighty
- 10:20live. It's nine to seventeen. You mentioned your town recorder. I got
- 10:24to give a shout out to your town recorder, John Signer. You know,
- 10:26he and I have been friends. We met in seventh grade. He's
- 10:28a he's a good Logan County boy. Fun fact you can use at your
- 10:33next meeting. In school, we called him slick. His nickname was Sack.
- 10:37I don't know why because he's far from slick, but that's all we
- 10:39called him. So, so make sure you make a know that for the
- 10:43next councilor. Well, and let me just mention that now and I'll let
- 10:46Slick know. But uh, you know, it's great to uh Actually,
- 10:50this past year when we had our election, we've had the first father and
- 10:56son combination, which is John and Jacobs Hunter Jacobson counsel. John's a recorder.
- 11:03And then we had the first father and daughter which is David Fletcher's the
- 11:07mayor and Cole Fletcher as a council keeping in the family there. So it's
- 11:11great. And my granddad was mayor there back sixties and I'd always said,
- 11:16hey, I'd like to be how long have you been mayor? Now?
- 11:20Five years and I've served as a city recorder for sixteen years, which is
- 11:24the job that John Slick. Are you never going to forget that now,
- 11:30are you? I don't know. Let's get to your big event in town.
- 11:33You got a big, big thing going on this weekend here talk about
- 11:35him? Yes, sir uh ut her Belltown Festival and Car Show for two
- 11:41thousand and twenty three. We held one two years ago in two thousand and
- 11:45twenty one. We are going to start up this Friday, May nineteenth at
- 11:48four o'clock in the evening and go to approximately ten o'clock at night, and
- 11:54then on Saturday we'll come back in at nine o'clock and go to three.
- 11:58Uh. The kind of the things that we're doing is we are renting vendor
- 12:03spaces, so we do have people coming in with jewelry, wood, working,
- 12:07quilts, food, many food vendors, and so we've got several things
- 12:15going on right now. We've got about thirty three vendors coming in and so
- 12:20we'll stack those along DuPont Avenue. We will, and just a note here
- 12:24is that we will close DuPont Avenue down Friday afternoon about one o'clock and we'll
- 12:31divert traffic around Seventh Street out Riverview and then back at the end of thirteenth
- 12:35Street up by the Boyd Caterpillar area, and so you know we've contacted karts
- 12:43many places like that to let them know. Friday evening we will have an
- 12:50Elvison personator from four to six. Right after that we'll have the Esquires from
- 12:56seven to ten, and the Esquires out of Austin here is celebrating sixty years
- 13:01and their musical icons they are they are. Saturday afternoon we've got Darren Cooper
- 13:07and Mountain Gold from two to four. We'll have a hard Reign with Chad
- 13:11Jones from four thirty to six thirty, and then we'll have a band out
- 13:16of the East Bank area, the ex House, which has been around for
- 13:18many years, and they'll be there from seven to ten. Another important thing
- 13:24about our fair will be without the doo Wop in Charleston this year. We
- 13:31have, you know, also brought in our car show again like we did
- 13:33last or two years ago, and car show before had about eighty two I
- 13:39think eighty five cars somewhere in that range right now. From just the guys
- 13:45it's working this and have received phone calls and everything else. I've actually put
- 13:48it out on the Charleston doo Wop site and everything else. They're thinking right
- 13:54now that we may see one hundred to one hundred and twenty cars minimum,
- 13:58and so we're really excited about this weekend. Uh, looking at the weather,
- 14:05Friday looks great. Saturday, I'm not so sure I could change.
- 14:09Friday look bad when we first started looking at it. Um. We've got
- 14:15some good vendor prizes and everything. For the car show. We'll have fifty
- 14:20fifty tickets sold. We've got a couple of callers that boyd cat Is donated
- 14:26to actually wrote or donate or raffle off. So we are going to do
- 14:31some fifty fifties for that. There'll be fifty fifty car show from nine to
- 14:37three that day. Uh. We'll also have some gift cards and other prizes
- 14:43that many of smaller sponsors have donated to us. UM. You know,
- 14:48I'll just mention a few. One is the Parmar Store. Uh, they've
- 14:52actually presented some stuff. We've got o' rallies, we've got Advanced Auto,
- 14:56we've got Auto Zone, We've I actually had one of the sponsors of the
- 15:01Charleston doo Wop was the Hot Degity Dog they've even provided some things for us,
- 15:07and so you know we've gone from uh, you know, the Glasgow
- 15:11area down too close to the Polk area and just picking up prizes and everything
- 15:18else. Everybody coming together for that. Everybody is and it's really a group
- 15:24effort. We've had a committee of about ten people working for several months now,
- 15:31and you know, I just like to really think, you know,
- 15:33many of the large sponsors that really help us with this show and help pay
- 15:39for the bands and things like that. But State of West Virginia Cultural Center
- 15:43always does a contribution for the town of Belle canall County commissioners. I'll tell
- 15:50you every time you just ask them. I mean, it seems like it
- 15:54it comes through for you. So can't thank the commissioners enough. Whitsville State
- 16:00Bank, Try and Engineering, Bell Chemical Company, BOYD Caterpillar, and Wholesale
- 16:07Transmission. So those are main sponsors and you'll see some banners and everything hanging
- 16:14up with their names on it. But you know, if not for those
- 16:18and then actually town putting some money into it, it would be a far
- 16:25thing to take care of and just make sure that we have a successful festival
- 16:30and car show. Where can people learn more about the festival and the car
- 16:33show and everything for this well, they can go to the on Facebook there
- 16:37is a two thousand and twenty three Belltown Festival and Car Show, or call
- 16:42town Hall and we can actually give some specifics there. Three oh four nine
- 16:48four nine three eight four one. How mare sounds like you had a light
- 16:52going on there. I appreciate you being here today. Thanks light, I
- 16:55appreciate it day. Appreciate being here and glad to be with you today.

- 20:45Republican strategist Greg Thomas is here. We're gonna talk to him in a couple
- 20:48of moments. I want to bring in Jeff Jenkins though from the newsroom.
- 20:52Jeff m a a very very strange situation yesterday at Kroger in South Charleston.
- 20:59Talk about that, well, there was an argument between three women and escalated
- 21:06into gunfire and a woman was shot in the back by another woman and that
- 21:10woman was charged. It happened late morning, Riverwalk Plaza, Kroger Mother's Day
- 21:15morning, and so, um, you know there's some people around. I
- 21:21don't obviously, it's not the busiest time for Kroger. I was in there
- 21:25at nine thirty Saturday night getting some Mother's Day stuff and that was a quite
- 21:29busy time. Yeah, but uh yeah, So it's a lady was shot
- 21:34in the bike. Now we don't know her condition. We're hoping to get
- 21:38an update on that from South Charleston Police, but they do have. They
- 21:41did arrest a woman charged with attempt to murder and a couple of other charges.
- 21:48So do you have any idea like what led to this? Yeah,
- 21:49I think it was a I mean, yeah, that's part of the investigation,
- 21:52but I don't think it just kind of randomly, right, Yeah,
- 21:56it wasn't a random thing. And it said that they knew each other,
- 21:59yeah, each other, Yeah, and they didn't know each other. So
- 22:02it's just it's it Obviously it's a concern anytime, but it's a concern when
- 22:07you get in among other people. Sure, yeah, right public, yeah
- 22:11exactly, And so it's uh, you know, so it's pretty Actually I
- 22:15came by there about an hour later and it's pretty still a pretty good,
- 22:18pretty presence there, but the story was open, so people are still going
- 22:22in and out about an hour later, so we'll get more. But it
- 22:26sounds like obviously a domestic um and you know, they have a they've got
- 22:32a woman in custody, so we'll we'll find out more. There was some
- 22:34stuff in the criminal complaint, but you know, we'll find out more today,
- 22:40hopefully about the person's condition kind of what led to this. Jaral Lewis
- 22:42has got a story post to wv Metro News dot com and also at WCHS
- 22:45Network dot com will of course be following the story throughout the day, both

- 23:19some time off. On Thursday of this week, I will be off.
- 23:23I'll be doing some traveling. I'm back on Friday, but then next week
- 23:27I'm off all week. I'm drinking Corona's on an undisclosed beat somewhere. That's
- 23:30all I'm gonna say about that. Dale Cooper will be filling in for me
- 23:33this Thursday and then again I'll be back on Friday, and I'll be gone
- 23:37all next week, no show. I'm on World Day. So my first
- 23:40day back will be Tuesday, May thirtieth, And believe it or not,
- 23:45Greg, I got a little anniversary going in there this will and actually won't
- 23:48be here for it. I'll be on vacation. May twenty six, my
- 23:52third year of doing this show. Well good, seems like it was just
- 23:56yesterday. I feel like it's seeger than that. I mean, I feel
- 24:00like I've been on a lot. I mean I feel like I listened a
- 24:03lot. Well, you know, and you thought you think about that,
- 24:06greg about what all has changed. I mean, when I started doing this
- 24:08show, everybody wore masks. Um, the building was pretty much close to
- 24:14the public. I mean, you know, we almost all my guests were
- 24:17on the phone. Um we were. The whole world was practically still shut
- 24:21down at that point. Uh. We were just talking about Trump Biden and
- 24:26oh here we are again on that. But but anyway, I just kind
- 24:30of wanted to wanted to get that. Uh. And there you have a
- 24:32good Mother's Day weekend with the family and whatnot. Yeah, it was good.
- 24:36I actually got to spend a little time by stepmother on Friday, which
- 24:38was nice for me. So wow, you reached out to me, um
- 24:42last week about coming on greg Amo. Among other things, in your mind,
- 24:47was a pretty significant party change. Uh here in Kanaon County. Well,
- 24:52as you know, I mean obviously there's been a ton of uh switching
- 24:56parties. I mean not just from voters but also from you know, elected
- 25:00officials. And you know, look, we've seen that over you know,
- 25:03more than a decade now in West Virginia. But this one really and it
- 25:07was brought to my attention, sort of caught my eye. Apparently local Circuit
- 25:12Judge Tera Selango has been a Republican since like January, and they didn't put
- 25:19out a press release announcing it. I didn't, you know. I guess
- 25:22you'll have to ask Pushkin if you know, if he knew about this,
- 25:26or you know, does he does he know? Am I telling him about
- 25:29it? Did he know about it? You know? But I think it's
- 25:33it's I think there's a couple things at play here. I mean, one,
- 25:36there's certainly a trend among uh, personal injury lawyers and those sort of
- 25:41interests to become Republicans. I mean this is you know, traditionally in West
- 25:47Virginia, right, I mean, the Democratic Party was, you know,
- 25:49the two revenue streams for them were always labor unions and personal injury lawyers.
- 25:56The personal injury lawyers. Though you know, there's been some union folks that
- 26:00have become Republicans here and there, or there's always been a little bit of
- 26:03you know, kind of labor friendliness amongst some Republicans. But the trial lawyers
- 26:07are just jumping ship, right, They've they've abandoned the Democratic Party. Um,
- 26:12you know, uh, why why is it profit over principle? They
- 26:19want to make money, dude. I mean it's a lot of money.
- 26:22Mean, those personal injury lawyers. You know, before we started really enacting
- 26:25a lot of tort reform West Virginia, you know, we were the worst
- 26:29legal system in the country, you know, for a for a business,
- 26:32um, and they made million you know, not just hundreds of thousands,
- 26:34but these guys were making millions of dollars. And so that has been throttled
- 26:38back because the court system is getting better and they've just you know, they
- 26:45want to make that money. You know, it's it's about you know,
- 26:48it's greed, I mean, just greedy. Personal injury lawyers are gonna do
- 26:51whatever it takes. They're switching parties, they're doing it. Um. But
- 26:55I mean, okay, on average, how how do unless they just look
- 26:57at how how do people know? Because if there are a personal injury attorney,
- 27:02they're not that's not going to be listed in their advertising or anything.
- 27:04They're not going to be in a Yellow Page, Adds or Google or whatever.
- 27:07No, I may say that. I mean, well, anybody who
- 27:10is advertising is a personal injury lawyer, though, you know what I mean,
- 27:12Like like defense lawyers don't advertise, right, Like that's you know,
- 27:17businesses. I I guess my question is is when when you say that they're
- 27:21switching for financial gain or whatever, because because they want to they want to
- 27:26go back to the bad old days of how having policies that are friendly to
- 27:32lawsuits like they want law they want they want to go back to having a
- 27:36broken legal system that has litigate that is litigation friendly. Um. And so
- 27:41you know, if they got to look at it and say, well,
- 27:44you know, I was a Democrat, and you know I supported the Democrats
- 27:47on a lot of issues. But the only way for me to get back,
- 27:51the only way for us to get back to having you know, a
- 27:53broken legal system is for us to you know, get in and take over
- 27:57the Republican House Judiciary Committee or for us to stay. You know, the
- 28:03State Supreme Court is in a much better place than it used to be.
- 28:07We've got this new Intermediate Depellate Court that's doing a great job. In the
- 28:11one place left, you know, where there's still a lot of liberal judges
- 28:15that are still you know, handing out big time money is at the circuit
- 28:18level. Um. And you know, I've been saying for over a year
- 28:21that that we're going to have some very competitive circuit court races here in Kanoan
- 28:25County. UM. And obviously I'm not the only one that thinks. So
- 28:29if if the you know, last Democratic candidate for governor's wife is switching parties,
- 28:34um, you know, so obviously they you know, they're looking down
- 28:37and they see the same things that we are that you know, this is
- 28:41uh, even in Koong County, it's going to be a big Republican year
- 28:45in twenty twenty four. UM. And you know, I've actually you know,
- 28:49and I know these you know, I was, I knew that it
- 28:52was getting better in Kongan County, but I really I went back to twenty
- 28:56eighteen, which was the last time that that she ran for office, Judge
- 29:00Lango, and even twenty eighteen, the Republicans. This is in Kanaw County.
- 29:07Registered voters Kanaw County forty two thousand Republicans, thirty two thousand Independents,
- 29:11sixty four thousand Democrats. Fast forward to last month here in Kanaw County twenty
- 29:17three forty thousand Republicans, so down two thousand. The Independence is down to
- 29:23twenty eight thousand. The Democrats are down to forty three thousand. So they
- 29:29have lost. We've lost a couple of Republicans lost, a couple of thousand
- 29:32independents, four thousand Democrats have lost twenty one thousand voters just since twenty eighteen
- 29:37in Kanaw County. In Kanawk County alone, I mean, if you go
- 29:41back, you know, she had you know, she had a very competitive
- 29:44election against Dan Greer or that was shaping up to be a very competitive election.
- 29:48They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of their own money, you know,
- 29:51which they get because he's a personal injury law yea, yeah, right,
- 29:56so they can afford to put in hundreds of thousands of dollars into his
- 30:00wife's race for Circuit court. And she won by twenty one thousand votes.
- 30:04So her entire margin of victory is just evaporated through registration alone. Um,
- 30:11so I think this, I mean, I look, they see that this
- 30:15is going to be a very competitive election. Um. You know, we've
- 30:18we've gotten you know, in the legislature, both the House of Douglas and
- 30:21the state Senate. There's been a lot of trial lawyers, personal injury lawyers
- 30:25running as Republicans. We're here, you know, as we go out there
- 30:29and try to recruit people for this election, where. You know, I
- 30:30think there's going to be a lot of you know, there will be a
- 30:33lot of competitive elections because the personal injury lawyers are going out and finding people
- 30:38to run as Republicans for state legislature and circuit court. I am told and
- 30:44did a little digging on this store when I first became aware of it last
- 30:47year. I am told that um that Judge Clango plans to run for re
- 30:52election for that office. Because there always anytime somebody switches, sometimes there's there's
- 30:55speculation no matter what the office is. Well maybe they're looking at a different,
- 30:59different office. But I'm told for some folks, some insider folks,
- 31:02that she's probably gonna run. Yeah, I don't look I don't know them
- 31:03at all. I mean I'm not you know, you know, I look
- 31:07at this as part of this this overall trend um. I think that this
- 31:12probably to me, this just brings up a lot more quite you know,
- 31:15I don't have the answers. I think it just brings up a lot more
- 31:18questions, right, I mean, you know, are the you know,
- 31:19are you know, has she gone? You know, are the local Republicans
- 31:22going to say, oh, hey, you're a Republican now? Won't you
- 31:26come in and talk to us and tell us why you're a Republican? Um?
- 31:29You know, uh, you know, Pushkin and the and the Democrats
- 31:30have put out very critical statements of other elected officials that have switched parties.
- 31:36Um. You know, they did that with Glenn Jeffreys. They did it
- 31:38with that delegate. They are count Fayette County guy a couple weeks ago.
- 31:42Um. But to be there that guy's has changed party. It's like thirty
- 31:45five times. And that's what I'm saying. I just don't know. I
- 31:48mean, when you know, what did Mike Pushkin know and when did he
- 31:51know it? You know about this and you know, so I think it's
- 31:53I think it'll be I think there's a couple things. I think it'll be
- 31:56interesting to see what the other Republicans say here. I think it's going to
- 31:59be in rest in this here, what the local Democrats say. Um.
- 32:01And then of course, you know, she really made headlines last year with
- 32:05that abortion ruling. Right. Remember it was in the middle of Roe v
- 32:07Way was overturned and um. And then she had, you know, the
- 32:10the abortion clinic closed down, and then she had a rolling and then after
- 32:15her rolling, it opened back up, and you know, so uh,
- 32:19you know, you know, obviously some you know, somebody that knows more
- 32:22about that stuff will come in and talk to you about it than I do.
- 32:24But I think that's going to be a big issue, right, I
- 32:27mean, that's gonna be a big time thing that, especially among Republicans who
- 32:31are overwhelmingly pro life, to have you know, a circuit judge that made
- 32:36a decision that was not pro life, you know, to come in and
- 32:38kind of find out, you know, why that happened the way it did.
- 32:42And um So, anyways, I look, I think it's an overall
- 32:45trend. We definitely notice it. I think there's a couple you know,
- 32:47interesting things here. One just being the you know, we're gonna have really
- 32:52competitive circuit court races here in Kanall County, uh and probably in other parts
- 32:55of the state. Um, you know, there's a lot of candidates that
- 32:59are coming from the personal injury side within the Republican party. And then I
- 33:02just think that, you know, with those registration numbers that I rattled off,
- 33:06look, you're probably going to have a competitive you know, county commission
- 33:09race and sheriff race and prosecutor race and everything. Right, and then that's
- 33:13something that we you know, you you end up electing a Republican every once
- 33:16in a while here in Kodan County. But I think this is one of
- 33:19the few, you know, the local city building in Coke Courthouse, or
- 33:22one of the last few Democrats strongholds in the state. And I don't I
- 33:27don't see that holding for much longer. I mean, and I think that's
- 33:29interesting. And we'll say this and go to break as a as a strategist
- 33:31as you are, and you work with these with these folks, I mean,
- 33:36there's not and I know that you will somewhat be involved, and you're
- 33:38keeping an eye. Of course, someone goes on and let's say the Senate
- 33:42race or the governor's race or whatever, but it's going to be a Republican.
- 33:45I mean, I mean, you know, regardless, think about I
- 33:46mean, let's say exactly, that's a great point. And I look,
- 33:51if you said, you know, right now, there's about forty three thousand
- 33:53registered Democrats in Kodan County, there's forty thousand, six hundred Republicans. By
- 33:59the time we get to May, that number is probably going to be like
- 34:01even right, it'll probably be at you know, forty one thousand each or
- 34:05something like that. And just like you said, all the competitive elections are
- 34:08going to be on the Republican side, so Republican turnout is going to be
- 34:13much much higher. So even if the registration is level, the turnout of
- 34:16Republicans is going to be higher. I mean, this will be the first
- 34:19time since I mean I've been doing this for over twenty years now, this
- 34:22will be the first time we've ever had more Republicans show up in May at
- 34:25an election in Colon County than Democrats. And it's not going to be by
- 34:29a couple It's going to be by ten thousand, all right, eighteen away
- 34:32from ten. I got several texts to get to for Greg Thomas. We'll

- 37:55tech says Dear Dave. I was told us somebody in the Republican Party that
- 38:00Senator Glenn Jefferies and delicate Elliott Pritt reached out to the party to discuss matters
- 38:05before their switch the party, as I'm told, says a textured never heard
- 38:09from Tara Solano. That's what I'm saying. I mean to I mean,
- 38:15look to me, I could sit here and make assumptions about why somebody does
- 38:17something. But to me, this just just triggers a lot of questions.
- 38:23I mean, you know, why would you uh you know, And I
- 38:27was I was told that this was done back in like January, um which
- 38:31I'm not really you know sure that why that would have been the case,
- 38:34but um so, I don't know. I mean, I just think there's
- 38:37a ton of questions about this. I think this, uh really is telling
- 38:40for the Democrats here in Kotong County and statewide for that matter. I mean
- 38:45her husband was the nominee for governor last time. I mean, they're you
- 38:49know this, this is a couple that gives out tens of thousands of dollars
- 38:52per year to Democratic candidates. Um, you know, probably one of the
- 38:57biggest donors you know, over the last few years the Democratic Party in general,
- 39:01you know, and to just kind of switch parties and not say anything
- 39:05about it, and uh, you know, I don't know, it's just
- 39:08it's something else, something else. I got some text your tech says,
- 39:12uh, Dave Hardy, Secretary of Revenue, switched from Democrat to Republican.
- 39:15You know that would that one to me kind of makes a little bit more
- 39:19sense given that he's worked for you know, I mean he he was appointed
- 39:22by a Democrat governor who switched parties, um, and he's worked continued to
- 39:28work for them, right, I mean, So that one, to me,
- 39:30you know, limits a little bit more sense, um than than this
- 39:34one. Text says I would love to find out how many progressives are changing
- 39:37parties specifically to interfere in Republican primaries. And yes, that is being pushed
- 39:43in conservative cities and states across the country. Oh, it absolutely is,
- 39:46I mean, right, that's I mean, look, there were you know,
- 39:51that's what the Chambercrats did forever, right. I mean you had a
- 39:52lot of you know, a lot of business people twenty thirty years ago in
- 39:57West Virginia that that weren't really Democrats, that's state democrats to run in their
- 40:00primary elections and medal and you know, I think that's certainly what a part
- 40:05of this is, right. I mean, it's not you know, this
- 40:07isn't a principal thing. This is just somebody comes in and says, well,
- 40:09you know, it's a it's a practical thing. It's like, well,
- 40:12I want to continue, you know, we want to continue to have
- 40:14these policies enable us to make the most amount of money. And the best
- 40:15way for us to get these policies enacted or for us to come in and
- 40:20you know, make sure we have Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee or whatever
- 40:23that you know, kill any tort reform bill and you know, try to
- 40:28go back to the bat Old days where you know, we sued all the
- 40:30businesses out of town, Texas. Speaking of courts, what does Greg think
- 40:34of Clarence Thomas not declaring bribes from his financiers. I think that that's not
- 40:39true. So it's not true. It's not true. Okay, Texas,
- 40:47be nice on the names. I just I just don't I mean, I
- 40:51don't know. I guess I just don't believe everything I see on the internet.
- 40:52Okay, text says, does the sleazy Thomas objective money only when it's
- 40:58not funding his preferred candidates. He gobbled up all the dark miney he can.
- 41:00What's is this money over principle? To not to say that the our
- 41:07side has put more money into the court races than the personal injury lawyers is
- 41:13an absolute lie on its base one percent lie. The numbers have never ever
- 41:19bore that out. The personal injury lawyer interest had politicized this judiciary decades ago,
- 41:25and our side caught up to it late. And you know, just
- 41:30we're better. I mean, honestly, we were just better at it than
- 41:31them, and we beat them. And now we're winning, and we're going
- 41:35to continue to win, and we're winning by so much that obvious liberal judges
- 41:38are switching parties to try to win. Texas, tell us how to see
- 41:43party affiliation on the Secretary of State side. It's hard to I can't describe
- 41:45it. I can't describe it on the air, but honestly, somebody sent
- 41:49it to me. You can actually you can go and you can say and
- 41:52I can't you know, I can't describe it whatever it is. Yeah,
- 41:54but you go to elections on the Secretary of State side and you can pretty
- 41:57much look up anybody, yeah, and find out how registered to vote.
- 42:00I mean, it's a public record, and you can find out how anybody's
- 42:02registered its public record. Did you happen to see Kabler's column in the Gazette
- 42:07yesterday? He harkened back to election years past greg and saying that there may
- 42:13be somewhat of a glimmer of hope for Democrats in twenty twenty four. I'm
- 42:16calling bs on that. Your thought was, I don't, I don't really
- 42:22Well, Well, he goes back and he talks about how some of the
- 42:24past races, you know, think about when about about Underwood, and he
- 42:30talked about arch Moore and it's too much to describe now, but I mean
- 42:32he talked about the Clyde c race going back to nineteen eighty four, and
- 42:35and that nobody gave in some of those races. People didn't give Democrats an
- 42:38opportunity a chance of winning and they rebound. It's a different time. It's
- 42:44point well taken, I will say this, but it is a totally different
- 42:47time. Well you look, I mean if you look back to Underwood,
- 42:52right, I mean, you had Joe manchin Um against Charlotte pritt Um.
- 42:57I think in that race, though, you really did have a lot of
- 43:00conservatives that were Democrats that that switched over to help the Republican. I just
- 43:05don't think you have that many liberals that are Republicans. I mean, I'm
- 43:08sitting here talking about liberals becoming Republicans. So I think that could be the
- 43:14case maybe a decade from now, you know what I mean, But I
- 43:17don't think that's the case right now. I mean, I just think there
- 43:20are far too many conservatives in the state. I think there are far too
- 43:23many conservatives in the state to divide it up. No. Look, I
- 43:27mean if you had, you know, if we had a really weak candidate,
- 43:31you know that got out of a primary, they could still win.
- 43:35I mean, Mansion beat Morrissey, you know, a few years ago.
- 43:37So I mean it can still happen. But I think that's really like the
- 43:42Democrats putting their best person forward and the Republicans putting our worst person forward.
- 43:46Maybe then, but just I just don't think that's the case outside of a
- 43:52mansion kind of raised and all politics. You know, they say all politics
- 43:55is local. I'm going to disagree. All politics in twenty twenty three have
- 44:00become national. And I said this, and I had Doug Scaff on the
- 44:02show the other day and on Friday, Scaff and I were talking about this
- 44:07about how everybody identifies now with the national party. If you're a Republican,
- 44:13than you're Trump. If you are a Democrat, then you are Chuck Schumer,
- 44:16you're Joe Biden, you're you know, Barack Obama, or whatever the
- 44:20case. Maybe it's Fox and News, CNN, man, it's the it's
- 44:22the cable news networks. And it's just so many people are more informed or
- 44:28misinformed for that matter, on federal on federal politics than what they were before.
- 44:34Right, I mean we and look, I don't work in a lot
- 44:37of federal politics. I mean I work in the state level and kind of
- 44:39local level stuff, and um, we work really hard to try to get
- 44:44those issues talked about. And it's you know, you really have to break
- 44:47through, you know, you really have to try to break through or tie
- 44:52something that you're doing to something that's happened at the federal level too. But
- 44:55um, and look, the reality is too is the federal government. And
- 45:00it's just so big. I mean, it is so big. It is
- 45:02in so many aspects of our lives. Uh that that is the thing that
- 45:07people look at and think about because not only do not only is it forced
- 45:12is shoved down their throat via cable news, but it's also on their text
- 45:17reform, on their text forums and on their you know, at their jobs,
- 45:22and you know the big you know green you know, New Green Deal
- 45:25and all that stuff. I mean, it really is just being shoved down
- 45:29on the throat. I see so many people Greg will go to break with
- 45:31this, so many people that text this show that say, you know,
- 45:36I am a conservative and the Democratic Party totally left me. I was a
- 45:40registered Democrat for excellent. I mean, you know, look look at what's
- 45:44going on in southern West Virginia. As I bring up Logan County, Mingo
- 45:47County, these places that I'm very familiar with. I mean, in the
- 45:52nineteen nineties, we didn't in Logan County, we did not have enough Republicans
- 45:57to be poll workers we had to get permission to put Democrats in Republican poll
- 46:01worker positions because we didn't have We used to joke and say the Republican Party
- 46:07held their meeting in a chevette. You know, they went through the drive
- 46:09through at Wendy's. And that was pretty much. And it's just totally changed,
- 46:14all right. We got to take a break. Five eighty Live presented

- 49:40to the previous text are obviously you object and condemned Republicans who stayed an election
- 49:45was stolen from them, Yet you push Hillary's lies about it forever. Correct.
- 49:49Let me refresh your memories before anyone says she never said that quote.
- 49:52You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and
- 49:54you can have elections stolen from you, Hillary Clinton, May of twenty nineteen.
- 50:00She did say that. Oh absolutely. I look, they know that.
- 50:04I mean, all these people that are trying to defend the Democrat positions
- 50:07know exactly that. You know, even the ones that come in here and
- 50:09you know, try to attack me on this stuff, they know they're lying
- 50:12about it. They don't care, you know what I mean, they don't
- 50:14care. Like that's they just don't. I mean, it's they just don't.
- 50:17Tex says, Greg knows that Justice Thomas is not reporting donations and income
- 50:22as required. That has been documented. Sure what hey, whatever, CNN
- 50:25to hold you whatever, man, whatever you say, Tex says, Notice
- 50:29that Thomas didn't disavow dark money. He loves it. I look the person
- 50:35personal injury lawyers have given five times as much money to judicial candidates in West
- 50:40Virginia than any conservative interests have at least five times as much and every and
- 50:45they all know it. They're just you know, they get they get mad
- 50:47because we won. Um you know, we won. You know, you
- 50:52guys made you know, the Democrats made the rules to all these elections.
- 50:55We'd win an election, they change the rules, we'd win the next election,
- 50:59they change it again. Then Republicans get in there. Not only do
- 51:02we not change the rules to make it harder for Democrats, we change the
- 51:06rules to make it easier for Democrats. We got rigistrate ticket voting. You
- 51:09know, we've done all these things that the Republicans when the minority, they
- 51:14said they would do. When they have then they have held and we haven't
- 51:17tried to change that stuff. You know, it doesn't matter to me what
- 51:22the rules of the game are. We're gonna win anyway. I want to
- 51:23ask you this before we go the national spotlight. Of course, this battle
- 51:28between Jim Justice and Alex Mooney, and let me mention Chris Rosen there too.
- 51:31He's going to be on Hopey a little bit later on today that's getting
- 51:34national attention, but also the national spotlight, Greg is this potential run from
- 51:37a third party stance from Senator Joe Manchon. It's getting more and more attraction.
- 51:43I got a little insider information last week that the Senator has been telling
- 51:45his friends here in Charles said that he's very serious about possibly doing this.
- 51:50Close with that, I'm sure that he is, and I think that I
- 51:52would I would say today, and look, I don't know him. I
- 51:55would say today, Joe Manson is more likely to run for president than he
- 51:59is for US Senate West Virginia. All right, Greg, I appreciate it,
