- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:05Speaker 1: six forty.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Kyffin AM six forty Bill Handle here on a Friday morning,
- 0:20Speaker 3: January sixteen, and we continue on with the show some
- 0:25Speaker 3: of the big big stories. We're looking at Minneapolis again
- 0:33Speaker 3: the quote insurrection riots are going like crazy, the particular
- 0:38Speaker 3: demonstrations against the ice arrests.
- 0:41Speaker 4: And if they go longer than four hours, the insurrection,
- 0:45Speaker 4: you have to call a doctor.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Yes, that's actually very funny. Thanks. That's not bad.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Oh, thanks, I cherish your insights to my humor.
- 0:56Speaker 5: Yeah, not bad, thank you. Okay, it is time for
- 0:59Speaker 5: Food Friday with Neil Sabiedra.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Neil who puts on a different pair of pants tomorrow.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I don't know what.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, he leaves the big boy pants and
- 1:12Speaker 3: puts on the bigger boy pants. A host of the
- 1:15Speaker 3: Fork Report from two to five pm tomorrow afternoon all
- 1:19Speaker 3: Things Food, and he follows Rich tomorrow the Tech Show,
- 1:23Speaker 3: who follows me on Handle on the Law, who follows
- 1:28Speaker 3: Dean Sharp on Home?
- 1:32Speaker 5: And I don't know who's on before that? Is it
- 1:34Speaker 5: George lor who's on Tomorrow Night? Yeah?
- 1:39Speaker 4: You mean overnights? Yeah, overnights until north intil the wee hours.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, so it's Martian anal probes because as what
- 1:46Speaker 5: you you wish?
- 1:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you sit outside with a foil hat and a flashlight.
- 1:52Speaker 5: All right, let's do it. Come learn from me.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Let's do it Footy Friday, and we start with the
- 1:59Speaker 3: coke coat has been broken.
- 2:01Speaker 4: I'm assuming the formula for Coca Cola. This is fascinating.
- 2:05Speaker 4: So for the longest time you have proprietary stuff. Okay,
- 2:08Speaker 4: you can't. There's as a lawyer, you know this. You
- 2:12Speaker 4: cannot copyright a recipe.
- 2:18Speaker 5: A recipe is just a list. As a lawyer, I
- 2:22Speaker 5: didn't know that.
- 2:24Speaker 4: But you can't copyright any technique that's proprietary or things
- 2:30Speaker 4: like that. But for a long time, you know, whether
- 2:32Speaker 4: it was the colonel's you know what is the thirteens
- 2:35Speaker 4: nos eleven herbs, and I know it was in there.
- 2:38Speaker 5: I was hopeful for more.
- 2:40Speaker 4: But Coca Cola had its proprietary formula, well, it had
- 2:46Speaker 4: its recipe, it did have, but there has to be
- 2:49Speaker 4: something more than a recipe.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Yeah here and now I'm going to throw my lawyer
- 2:53Speaker 5: hat on your lawyer hat. Was a chef's captain that's
- 2:57Speaker 5: a law. That's true.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Actually when I graduated law school, now it's you're right.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Recipes cannot be copyrighted trademarked. At the same time, all
- 3:08Speaker 3: Coca Cola has is the recipe, which is not protected.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So what they did is the formula. The formula. They
- 3:16Speaker 3: know what ingredients were, but how much in the way
- 3:20Speaker 3: it was treated portions.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Now, that was so secret.
- 3:24Speaker 3: The recipe was kept in a safe deposit box in
- 3:27Speaker 3: Atlanta and three people in the company had access to
- 3:32Speaker 3: it over the course of years.
- 3:35Speaker 5: That's it. That's crazy. And now it has been broken. Huh.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Well, yeah, there is big times where only like if
- 3:43Speaker 4: they had three people, one would have a third of it,
- 3:46Speaker 4: one would have a third of it the other. Well,
- 3:48Speaker 4: this guy is a YouTuber and he's into science and
- 3:51Speaker 4: what he did he claims to have reverse engineered coke
- 3:55Speaker 4: using what they refer to as mass spectrometry, and this
- 4:01Speaker 4: is cracking the flavor code that remained a mystery for
- 4:04Speaker 4: over a century. Keep in mind, so a year of experimentation,
- 4:08Speaker 4: this guy had a bunch of taste testers and at
- 4:11Speaker 4: this point, apparently these taste testers could not tell the
- 4:15Speaker 4: difference between his clone coca cola and the real thing.
- 4:22Speaker 4: So the mystique of coke, this elixir that has been
- 4:26Speaker 4: going on forever, this is what he says, makes up
- 4:30Speaker 4: that the the precise cocktail of natural flavorings that make
- 4:34Speaker 4: up you know this beverages, citrus, soils, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, tannin's,
- 4:41Speaker 4: even tiny touches of vinegar, all combined in exact ratios,
- 4:46Speaker 4: like you said, getting that, nailing that ratio to give
- 4:50Speaker 4: that unmistakable taste. So there's orange in there, there's lemon,
- 4:56Speaker 4: there's coriander, and putting these things together. His biggest thing was, listen,
- 5:02Speaker 4: you're not going to make this stuff at home. It's
- 5:03Speaker 4: not like you're going to be whipping this up. It's
- 5:06Speaker 4: made in a syrup and then the syrup is carbonated.
- 5:09Speaker 4: That's how it is. You remember the old school. Oh yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 4: So if you go into on Colorado Boulevard and Pasadena,
- 5:17Speaker 4: you can go to uh Pie and Burger and they
- 5:21Speaker 4: still mix.
- 5:22Speaker 5: The old mix.
- 5:24Speaker 4: They build this odyrup in there, and yeah, so no
- 5:28Speaker 4: one's going to be doing that. But his whole thing
- 5:30Speaker 4: was he just wanted to show that you could crack. Now,
- 5:34Speaker 4: with modern technology, you could crack the code. And reverse
- 5:38Speaker 4: engineer a lot of these flavors. Kind of fascinating.
- 5:41Speaker 3: And I'll tell you all, by the way, when we
- 5:43Speaker 3: say over a century ago, I mean it's century and
- 5:46Speaker 3: a half ago. I mean Coca cola came about before
- 5:49Speaker 3: the turn of the last century.
- 5:51Speaker 5: And when did diet coke come, you know what, sixties?
- 5:54Speaker 4: Maybe?
- 5:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was the sixties. Yeah, And I
- 5:56Speaker 5: think there's more beautiful day when it happened.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and there's no more and there there's more die
- 6:00Speaker 3: coke sol now than regular coke, I believe in terms
- 6:03Speaker 3: of would two.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Two, well, maybe it's tab what was there? There was?
- 6:11Speaker 5: It was a tab No, it was horrible.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And then the other thing is when they had the
- 6:18Speaker 3: day they took cocaine out of Coca cola, it was
- 6:20Speaker 3: really a depressing day, just a huge shame.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Okay, we're that's where the straw was.
- 6:26Speaker 4: First year, it's just the fizziness, so a new this
- 6:31Speaker 4: is a first of a kind. It's kind pop tart flavor.
- 6:34Speaker 4: But I thought it was funny as to the time
- 6:36Speaker 4: of year and where this is going.
- 6:38Speaker 5: They're making peeps.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Three new flavors of peeps, and one of them is
- 6:44Speaker 4: frosted strawberry pop tarts, but get the other two. The
- 6:49Speaker 4: other one is Sunny Delight Flavor, and I know you
- 6:53Speaker 4: love the peeps, so these will be coming soon. And
- 6:56Speaker 4: then the other one, which is a curiosity is chili.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I am mango peeps.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Wow.
- 7:03Speaker 4: So so, as a peep officionado that you are, will
- 7:08Speaker 4: you try any of those Sunny Delight? You know what
- 7:12Speaker 4: Sonny D is right? It's Drake the beverage. It's horrible.
- 7:16Speaker 4: It's it's orange juice.
- 7:18Speaker 3: It's I don't even think there's a drop of orange.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Juice in it.
- 7:22Speaker 4: We didn't it was too expensive for our We didn't
- 7:24Speaker 4: have Sunny d in my house.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Sure that? What's that restaurant? Joy?
- 7:30Speaker 3: It's in the West Hollywood area and it's in the hotel.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I think it's in the w hotel that I went to.
- 7:39Speaker 3: It's really outrageous. It's just really a wonderful restaurant, very expensive,
- 7:44Speaker 3: good food, and they do different takes on food. For example,
- 7:49Speaker 3: they have a lava cake that you have to melt,
- 7:52Speaker 3: you know, to get the lava to it. So the
- 7:56Speaker 3: waiter waitress comes out with a welders man ask and
- 8:01Speaker 3: a but tane port and melts the chocolate.
- 8:04Speaker 5: I'm trying to remember.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And then they have like, for example, popcorn shrimp they
- 8:08Speaker 3: have it's in a popcorn making machine, you know, not
- 8:12Speaker 3: a popcorn bucket, you know, the machines that make popcorn,
- 8:15Speaker 3: the small ones, the facsimiles of real machines, and it
- 8:19Speaker 3: really makes popcorn. It's in one of those, the popcorn shrimp.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And then one of my favorites, I'm glad you didn't
- 8:23Speaker 3: get a dump cake. Yeah, that's very nicely done.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Yeah it is.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Uh, it's just outrageous. I'm trying to think of the name,
- 8:33Speaker 4: and it's.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm someone will email us.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And then and I'm bringing this up because they have
- 8:40Speaker 3: and it's served in a toaster, and it's a pop
- 8:43Speaker 3: tart or their idea of a popcard, but it's not
- 8:47Speaker 3: hard to make the exact dimensions of a pop tart.
- 8:50Speaker 3: And it is a lobster pop tart. It's a savory
- 8:54Speaker 3: and it's lobster like lobster ravioli. And it's served in
- 9:00Speaker 3: a toaster, you know, sticking out from the two you know,
- 9:03Speaker 3: the two areas of the toaster where the toast goes down.
- 9:07Speaker 5: It's I mean, yeah, it was. That is a pot well,
- 9:11Speaker 5: I told you experiences are going to lead out. Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I don't know if they're still there, but it's a
- 9:17Speaker 3: wild restaurant. They have an ice cream cone they call
- 9:22Speaker 3: the Marie Antoinette that's on this huge cone that they make,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and I mean it's massive. It's like three feet tall
- 9:29Speaker 3: and it just filled with ice cream. It costs hundreds
- 9:32Speaker 3: of dollars. And then on top of it is cotton candy.
- 9:37Speaker 3: But yeah, they do cotton candy.
- 9:39Speaker 5: So it looks like one of those French wigs, but
- 9:42Speaker 5: incredibly high, like five feet high. And that's the Marie
- 9:45Speaker 5: on Twinette.
- 9:46Speaker 4: And it comes at our foot, no head, no comes hurt.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yeah. I don't know what the foot reference is about.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, but anyway, so that was a pop tart
- 9:58Speaker 3: restaurant reference.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Okay, what's going on at Aldi? Okay? This is cool.
- 10:03Speaker 4: So if you've been online and I don't know what
- 10:07Speaker 4: it is with large bags, but large bags are always
- 10:10Speaker 4: I don't know, attractive, you know, like for grocery shopping
- 10:13Speaker 4: or whatever. There's a bag that's very popular called the
- 10:16Speaker 4: Hulkin bag. Do you know what those are in they're
- 10:19Speaker 4: on wheels but they're big. It reminds me of what
- 10:23Speaker 4: you see Amazon delivery guys sometimes when they're doing a
- 10:27Speaker 4: bunch of packages they carry these big bags that have
- 10:29Speaker 4: multiple and they leave them and then run up to
- 10:31Speaker 4: the houses or whatever. But they're these big bags with
- 10:34Speaker 4: wheels called Hulkin bags, but they're like one hundred and
- 10:37Speaker 4: fifty bucks.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Ye, when you.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Said large bags, I immediately thought of will Coleshreiber. No,
- 10:46Speaker 3: that's body shaming, isn't it. Wow?
- 10:48Speaker 4: Okay, wow, you're the one with the most shameful body.
- 10:52Speaker 4: So anyways, it's people love these things because they're huge.
- 10:55Speaker 4: You can put a lot in them that you can
- 10:57Speaker 4: use them for grocery shopping. Well, all they has one
- 10:59Speaker 4: that looks very close to the original, but it's thirty
- 11:03Speaker 4: bucks and people have gon nuts for it, so they
- 11:07Speaker 4: call it the organizer's dream bag.
- 11:09Speaker 5: And what is the quality? Though?
- 11:10Speaker 4: The quality is nice? Look at this picture. This one
- 11:12Speaker 4: happens to be all silver. But they're they're they're on
- 11:16Speaker 4: wheels and they I don't know, there's something about I
- 11:19Speaker 4: don't I love containers. I love boxes. I look bag, but.
- 11:22Speaker 5: This one has wheels on it.
- 11:23Speaker 4: You put a lot of stuff, you put your groceries
- 11:25Speaker 4: in there, or if you've got a child a bunch
- 11:28Speaker 4: of their stuff in.
- 11:29Speaker 5: There, and hey, like you know what I want, But
- 11:31Speaker 5: people are paying one hundred and fifty bucks for them
- 11:33Speaker 5: or whatever. I want our listeners to see them. So
- 11:36Speaker 5: put it up to the microphone. I was showing you,
- 11:38Speaker 5: you idiots.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Oh, okay, got it now, I understand. So a lot
- 11:42Speaker 3: of this show I really don't understand.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, like the fact that it is Oh,
- 11:49Speaker 4: Paul Corvino just wrote US President.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Paul Corvino said, it's called They're there. The restaurant is
- 11:55Speaker 5: there There.
- 11:57Speaker 4: The restaurant there is called there. Hold on Kerry the eye. Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 4: I don't think the restaurant is called there There, don't
- 12:04Speaker 4: I don't think, so, I don't think. And send the
- 12:06Speaker 4: w hotel. I'm sorry. I'm gonna trust him. He goes
- 12:09Speaker 4: out all the time.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I know, but I don't. You know, we have to
- 12:12Speaker 5: figure that you.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Didn't even know whether it was December or January.
- 12:15Speaker 3: That's correct, But I but listen, months, I may not
- 12:18Speaker 3: know restaurants that I've been to.
- 12:20Speaker 5: I know, except I don't know the name. We'll be back.
- 12:24Speaker 4: You actually didn't know, which is why our boss is
- 12:28Speaker 4: texting us.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Now we do that a lot.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Okay, let's take a break third base say, yeah, Paul,
- 12:34Speaker 3: I think you're wrong for the first time.
- 12:37Speaker 5: I think Cordino is not correct on that one. Oh
- 12:40Speaker 5: I'll be hosting on Monday. Yes you will, Yes you will.
- 12:43Speaker 3: All right, Oh Friday, a foody Friday, and ask handle
- 12:47Speaker 3: anything Friday as we do, as we always broadcast the
- 12:50Speaker 3: end of the show before we do, asking for your
- 12:53Speaker 3: help to help Cono get a car.
- 12:57Speaker 5: His car blew up.
- 12:58Speaker 3: He drives seventy two miles each way from where he
- 13:02Speaker 3: lives in the Inland Empire, and strangely enough, not only
- 13:06Speaker 3: do they have meth labs there, but Cono uses it
- 13:11Speaker 3: to stay awake because he's driving seventy two miles, So
- 13:13Speaker 3: it's a double yeah no, no, no drugs here, okay, okay, yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 3: that's fine and protests too much. And in the meantime,
- 13:21Speaker 3: we're helping Kono buy a car because his car really
- 13:24Speaker 3: blew up and he works for iHeart bad.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Combination in terms of being able to afford a car.
- 13:30Speaker 3: So there's a go fundme page that was created, and
- 13:36Speaker 3: the way you get to it is to go to
- 13:38Speaker 3: KFI A M six forty dot com slash cono k
- 13:42Speaker 3: O n O, and that'll put you right into our
- 13:46Speaker 3: page where we're helping Kono. And please please do because
- 13:50Speaker 3: he's basically a good guy and you are and you
- 13:52Speaker 3: work very hard and he does. I won't be saying
- 13:54Speaker 3: this again, so calendar this and deserves the help. So
- 13:58Speaker 3: it's KFI A M six d com slash con no
- 14:01Speaker 3: ko n O. All right, it is time for Ask
- 14:06Speaker 3: Candle Anything, where you get to ask handle anything.
- 14:10Speaker 5: The rules are always the same.
- 14:12Speaker 3: During the show, you go onto the iHeartRadio app and
- 14:15Speaker 3: you will hear this show being broadcast, and in the
- 14:18Speaker 3: upright hand corner corner there's a microphone. You press on
- 14:21Speaker 3: that and you get to record a ridiculous question that's
- 14:25Speaker 3: going to embarrass me. Neil chooses the questions and I
- 14:28Speaker 3: hear him the same time you do, you know, first
- 14:30Speaker 3: time out, so it's pretty spontaneous.
- 14:32Speaker 5: All right, let's do the first question. Bill.
- 14:36Speaker 2: We all know that Karen Bass is gonna run again
- 14:39Speaker 2: for mayor. Now my question to you is this. In
- 14:42Speaker 2: her first run, she had a Barack, Kamala and Joe
- 14:46Speaker 2: come out too. I guess campaign for her. Do you
- 14:49Speaker 2: think or do you believe that they will come out
- 14:51Speaker 2: a second time?
- 14:52Speaker 5: Okay? What is a Barack Kamala joke? Joe oh cepy Joe? Okay,
- 15:00Speaker 5: got it? Uh was president?
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 15:03Speaker 5: I get it? Got yet it? And were they gonna
- 15:06Speaker 5: come out for them? Yeah? I don't care. I just
- 15:10Speaker 5: don't give a rats. Ask what do you think?
- 15:11Speaker 1: I mean?
- 15:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe yes, maybe no,
- 15:15Speaker 5: they're thinking about it. I'm thinking about it. They probably will,
- 15:17Speaker 5: they probably won't. Maybe they'll do it after the fact,
- 15:20Speaker 5: maybe they'll do it during it. Maybe they'll do it
- 15:22Speaker 5: before the fact. More insight, Okayndles all right, moving on
- 15:27Speaker 5: more ask candle anything.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Okay, this is for ask Bill anything. I know Bill
- 15:33Speaker 1: that you talked to doctor Kettingham Wednesdays. As we get older,
- 15:36Speaker 1: prostate and colon cancer can be an issue. But just
- 15:40Speaker 1: wondering how your prostate and colon.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Are You know what?
- 15:45Speaker 3: Good question we're gonna find out? Well, yeah, because next
- 15:50Speaker 3: Thursday or this Thursday. No, next Thursday, I no Thursday
- 15:54Speaker 3: coming up. I'm not gonna be here and I'm going
- 15:56Speaker 3: to have a colonoscopee.
- 15:59Speaker 5: I how is that if.
- 16:00Speaker 4: You're going to be doing that? I know you're not
- 16:02Speaker 4: going to be hosting. I can't eat, but can I
- 16:04Speaker 4: broadcast live from it?
- 16:06Speaker 3: We I'm going to ask if we can broadcast live
- 16:09Speaker 3: from the colonoscopy. I once broadcast live from and it
- 16:13Speaker 3: was years ago. You see at U C l A
- 16:15Speaker 3: and I broadcast live from an autopsy, which was kind
- 16:18Speaker 3: of neat.
- 16:18Speaker 5: So yeah, we'll do the colonoscopy. And uh, if you
- 16:22Speaker 5: a few years ago when we used to hand out
- 16:24Speaker 5: T shirts when we actually had a budget, Uh, there
- 16:26Speaker 5: is they hand you the pictures of what the inside
- 16:29Speaker 5: of your colon looks like and we put those on
- 16:31Speaker 5: T shirts.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I can't wait for them to find your head. Yeah
- 16:35Speaker 4: to be so we're gonna do something with a pictures.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Good question.
- 16:38Speaker 5: And my prostate? Yeah you know it's all right, Yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 5: it's fine and it works. Can you stop your stream will.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:47Speaker 5: You know I've got I've got sphincter muscles that work. Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Huh in your prostate yep, well you yeah, you can stop.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I mean physiologically I'm not really strong, but I think
- 16:59Speaker 3: it deals with your prostate.
- 17:00Speaker 5: You know, it's uh.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Your urinary tract that I can actually see you trying
- 17:06Speaker 4: to math that near your hand.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it wasn't.
- 17:08Speaker 3: It wasn't working. I bladder prostate, you know, the Aretha Franklin. Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 3: that's what I meant, all right. Next next question, Well, I.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Know that you do your commercials for that Zelman's. I
- 17:27Speaker 2: guess those tablets or whatever they're called. My question to
- 17:30Speaker 2: you is this, and probably could also apply to the
- 17:33Speaker 2: Bill Handle crew. Since Zelman goes into your stomach, obviously
- 17:38Speaker 2: it has to work its way through the digestions track.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Zelman's makes your breast smell better? Well, does Zelman also
- 17:44Speaker 2: make your fart smell better too?
- 17:46Speaker 3: You know, you would think so, but not in my case.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I don't want because I get a lot of complaints. Well,
- 17:52Speaker 3: I once did a commercial April Fools. I did a
- 17:55Speaker 3: commercial where Zelman's is now available in repository form, and
