- 0:07Speaker 1: Hot pointer time, I'll talk about the Nats General manager
- 0:12Speaker 1: search KRATS. Mike Rizzo was let go in July and
- 0:17Speaker 1: Mike to Bartelow is the interim GM. But Bob Nightingale
- 0:21Speaker 1: first was reporting about it, and then the story came
- 0:23Speaker 1: out in the Athletic. Ken's involved in that story and
- 0:27Speaker 1: they are interviewing a number of candidates, which include Carter Hawkins,
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Cubs current GM, Diamondbacks executive Amiel Sade, and Dodgers
- 0:37Speaker 1: senior vice president Josh Burns. There's the article Carter Hawkins
- 0:42Speaker 1: gets the picture on the page. What do you think?
- 0:47Speaker 2: I think to Bartelow, from what I've heard from the Nats.
- 0:51Speaker 2: From Nats people had a lot more to do with
- 0:57Speaker 2: some of these massive trade halls at the brought in
- 1:01Speaker 2: and why he's not the one that's up for it,
- 1:06Speaker 2: I don't know. But whoever they bring in, whoever it
- 1:09Speaker 2: ends up being, if Carter Hawkins is the guy, I
- 1:13Speaker 2: need to build up this minor league system. And I
- 1:15Speaker 2: don't mean with just people that are traded and brought over.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I'm talking the staff needs to be able to produce
- 1:22Speaker 2: more minor leaguers that have a big big league impact.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Everybody that's had a big league impact was either the
- 1:28Speaker 2: first pick, their first pick in the draft, which was
- 1:31Speaker 2: not a lot of development with or traded and picked
- 1:35Speaker 2: up from another team, which there's not a lot of developments,
- 1:37Speaker 2: just like, hey, we're gonna give you two hundred bats
- 1:39Speaker 2: in double A one hundle A and then you'll come
- 1:42Speaker 2: up to the big leagues Like that's whoever they get
- 1:46Speaker 2: that better be their specialty.
- 1:49Speaker 1: For the record, or at least according to the article,
- 1:52Speaker 1: to Bartelow, who's the intern JM is in the mix,
- 1:55Speaker 1: so he is among the candidates. They're just listing other ones.
- 1:58Speaker 1: They're doing their homework, which I will give them credit for. Wait. Wait,
- 2:04Speaker 1: so they're going to hire a new GM and they're
- 2:07Speaker 1: going to do at the very least what's called an
- 2:10Speaker 1: info suck and find out information about how other teams
- 2:13Speaker 1: are operating. Not every team does that, but good on
- 2:20Speaker 1: the Nats for doing it. Let me give you a
- 2:22Speaker 1: little bit more context on Carter Hawkins, since I think
- 2:25Speaker 1: he's the highest position wise of the external candidates, and
- 2:32Speaker 1: he's the face on the article there so he's the
- 2:35Speaker 1: GM of the Cubs. And in the article they said
- 2:38Speaker 1: with the Cubs closing in on their first playoff berth.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Since twenty twenty, Hawkins has been involved in revamping the
- 2:44Speaker 1: club's R and D research and development department and streamlining
- 2:47Speaker 1: scouting on the pro, amateur and international sides, with a
- 2:52Speaker 1: bigger emphasis on data and video rather than in person evaluations.
- 2:56Speaker 1: He was hired away from the Guardians after the twenty
- 2:59Speaker 1: twenty one Cubs have been developing much better lately. If
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm using that as a blanket statement, and so I
- 3:07Speaker 1: Day Sharma somewhat agreed with that yesterday. So that would
- 3:10Speaker 1: be a good sign and would play into what Kratz
- 3:12Speaker 1: is talking about. If you're the Nats, you need to
- 3:13Speaker 1: develop more players.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we also need people that are actually seeing players.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I don't agree with just the full we're going to
- 3:20Speaker 2: go full a's and go no scouts in the field
- 3:23Speaker 2: because they haven't won anything.
- 3:24Speaker 3: They have want shit.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So let's also establish that you've got to have people
- 3:28Speaker 2: out there watching guys that get to know the players.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Just watching them on video doesn't give you anything on
- 3:32Speaker 2: their makeup or any of that. You got to actually
- 3:34Speaker 2: have communication with players and see them play and see
- 3:37Speaker 2: them struggle and see how they react. When I ran
- 3:42Speaker 2: into Carter Hawkins in the Guardians organization Indians at the time,
- 3:47Speaker 2: he was part of the group there, the front office
- 3:50Speaker 2: group there that really did a good job of weeding
- 3:53Speaker 2: out coaches and front office who, without mincing words, weren't
- 3:59Speaker 2: good people like the group of people that the Guardians
- 4:04Speaker 2: have there now in the front office coaching staffs. Their
- 4:07Speaker 2: exact wording was, yes, we want good coaches, but we
- 4:11Speaker 2: want people who can really lead men. So if Carter
- 4:14Speaker 2: Hawkins can bring that over to wherever he becomes a
- 4:20Speaker 2: GM next, wherever he becomes a paid president of baseball
- 4:24Speaker 2: operations next, I think he has a I think that
- 4:29Speaker 2: organization will have a leg up. Look at what hein
- 4:31Speaker 2: Bloom did with the Red Sox. Yes, he got the
- 4:33Speaker 2: short end of the stick, as you know, they didn't
- 4:37Speaker 2: give him any money to spend and he got fired.
- 4:39Speaker 2: But you're seeing a lot of that come to fruition.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That starts not just with the players that are picked,
- 4:46Speaker 2: but with the coaches that are in the minor league system.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I know for a fact, because I saw Carter
- 4:51Speaker 2: Hawkins in those situations with the Guardians, that's his background,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and I hope he would bring that and not just
- 4:59Speaker 2: the not just the like impersonal. Hey, we're gonna watch
- 5:03Speaker 2: everything on video and never actually get our eyes on somebody.
- 5:08Speaker 1: The other thing for the Nats is eventually they're gonna
- 5:10Speaker 1: have to figure out what their plan is. From the
- 5:13Speaker 1: tippy top, the ownership situation was they're up for sale.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It sounded like they didn't get the price they wanted
- 5:20Speaker 1: and they haven't been putting much into the team. So
- 5:25Speaker 1: where are we at right now?
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Are they gonna sell? Are they gonna stay? Or are
- 5:28Speaker 2: they gonna buy some players? Because that was always a
- 5:30Speaker 2: thing when they won, they went out and got players.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and they don't have to leave the league in payroll.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But but they need to go out and get the
- 5:36Speaker 2: Max Suers or is the Patrick Corbyns, those guys Jason
- 5:39Speaker 2: Worth to come in and fill the right roles.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The star power worked for them, the star power acquisitions,
- 5:44Speaker 1: remember Max schers are At the time, people are like,
- 5:47Speaker 1: what you're paying them? What he was worth every penny
- 5:51Speaker 1: to you? Yeah, he gave you the individual, he gave
- 5:54Speaker 1: you the World Series title, he gave you everything. And
- 5:57Speaker 1: I thought this past season was gonna be the year
- 6:00Speaker 1: that they made a little push Kratz. I was like, Eh,
- 6:04Speaker 1: maybe they'll go get an ace. Maybe they'll go get
- 6:07Speaker 1: a big boy bat to go along with some of
- 6:08Speaker 1: the younger bats and show them the way they just
- 6:11Speaker 1: didn't do it. So that's part of this and that's
- 6:14Speaker 1: not going to be controlled by whoever they bring in next.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I mean, whoever they bring in next, hopefully eventually is
- 6:21Speaker 1: with you know, I would say either an ownership group
- 6:24Speaker 1: that's recommitting, or they're moving on. I think they're moving on.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I think they're going to sell. I'm pretty confident that
- 6:31Speaker 1: they're looking to sell. They just want to wait until
- 6:33Speaker 1: they get through the next collective bargaining agreement, which sounds
- 6:37Speaker 1: like it's the case for almost all of them at
- 6:39Speaker 1: this point. Doesn't it sound like many of the owners
- 6:43Speaker 1: are pulling back because they think they're going to get
- 6:45Speaker 1: more after the collective bargaining agreement gets settled. FT family,
- 6:51Speaker 1: let's talk about fair harbor, and if you're listening, I
- 6:53Speaker 1: hope that you watch this conversation at some point because
- 6:56Speaker 1: we're doing show and telcrats short they can be used
- 7:01Speaker 1: as a bathing suit, and the liner, which we call butter,
- 7:07Speaker 1: is the game breaker. It's the playmaker because it's different.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Your worn shorts that are not like this, and the
- 7:15Speaker 2: liner sucks. They are buttery on your butt.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I just came up with something for them. Your liner sucks.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Get Fair Harbor Liner. Seriously give it a shot. I'm
- 7:28Speaker 1: not just saying this. The butter analogy plays an ftfam.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You know, we're hooking you up. Fairharbor Clothing dot Com
- 7:36Speaker 1: slash fowl twenty percent off when you use the code
- 7:39Speaker 1: foul on your first purchase. Once again, that's Fair harbo
- 7:43Speaker 1: r Clothing dot com backslash foul for twenty percent off
- 7:47Speaker 1: your first purchase and use promo code foul.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're not going to sell three teams in
- 7:54Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven. You know you can't. There's just not
- 7:57Speaker 2: that many people that have that much money just hanging
- 8:01Speaker 2: around to purchase teams. I disagree, like you see because
- 8:06Speaker 2: then also those guys are getting sucked up by the
- 8:10Speaker 2: teams or the new expansion teams too, Like you're talking
- 8:14Speaker 2: people in the billions.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So yeah, but these are people in separate cities. I mean, AJ,
- 8:19Speaker 1: where do you stand on this one? For me, let's
- 8:21Speaker 1: use the Twins as an example. They said, we are
- 8:25Speaker 1: selling this team for one point seven billion dollars plus
- 8:28Speaker 1: you take on I think about four hundred million dollars
- 8:30Speaker 1: of debt, and there were billionaires in the running, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: it sounds like most of them valued it at around
- 8:37Speaker 1: one point five and maybe that even felt generous, because
- 8:39Speaker 1: really one point five is one point nine because of
- 8:41Speaker 1: the four hundred million in debt. That's real money. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: so they said, this is what it's worth, and the
- 8:46Speaker 1: twins laughed and hung up the phone on them. That's
- 8:48Speaker 1: a real story in the athletic. So I think there
- 8:51Speaker 1: are interested parties, but there's a line, even for billionaires,
- 8:54Speaker 1: where they're like, I have to pay an extra two
- 8:56Speaker 1: hundred million dollars for something that I already think is mispriced,
- 9:00Speaker 1: Like how much of a tax is there. Everybody has
- 9:02Speaker 1: their limit. They don't have unlimited money, even though they're billionaires.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So do you think that those three teams could get
- 9:08Speaker 1: sold post CBA.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I think I don't know if that's what they're waiting for.
- 9:14Speaker 2: The Learners have been talking about selling this team forever,
- 9:16Speaker 2: so I don't know.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I mean the Rays are going to about to be
- 9:19Speaker 2: sold in the next I think it's going to become official,
- 9:21Speaker 2: probably in the next couple of weeks here, the Twins
- 9:26Speaker 2: or got to get sold at some point, the Nats,
- 9:29Speaker 2: who else, the A's we'd like to be sold at
- 9:31Speaker 2: some point.
- 9:32Speaker 1: But yeah, the.
- 9:34Speaker 2: White Sox are going to be sold at some point
- 9:36Speaker 2: before twenty twenty nine, according to the agreement that was signed.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So there's teams.
- 9:40Speaker 2: People will buy these teams. You just have to find
- 9:42Speaker 2: the right people to buy the teams, because there's been
- 9:44Speaker 2: people that have bought teams also that haven't been the
- 9:46Speaker 2: right people and they haven't worked out. Frank mccorr comes
- 9:49Speaker 2: to mind of the Dodgers, right, he bought the team,
- 9:50Speaker 2: didn't have the money, but he's still you got to
- 9:52Speaker 2: deal the century. He still gets fair. He just still
- 9:54Speaker 2: gets all the parking, even though he doesn't own the team.
- 9:56Speaker 2: He worked out a deal to sell the team, but
- 9:58Speaker 2: he keeps all the parking, which is valuable as because there's.
- 10:00Speaker 3: No overhead on the parking.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You just collect money. That's great, Frank, call me out.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I want that deal.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Well, from what I recalled, it was a minute ago.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He was barring a ton of money. He was backed
- 10:11Speaker 1: up in debt and some other issues, and they wanted
- 10:14Speaker 1: him out and he had some letbridge and he's like, cool,
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'll get out, like you're asking, but I want the
- 10:20Speaker 1: parking lots. I mean, didn't we just hear about this
- 10:24Speaker 1: with Stu Sternberg with the race where eventually the league's like, hey, dude,
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's been twenty plus years, it's not working. You got
- 10:33Speaker 1: to get us a new ballpark so we can move
- 10:35Speaker 1: on here. And now he's selling the team and still
- 10:38Speaker 1: gets to keep a little bit so he can prop
- 10:41Speaker 1: it off the back end. But anyway, getting back to
- 10:43Speaker 1: the point here, Nationals fans krats feel like the biggest
- 10:50Speaker 1: problem is that the team has sat out, but it's
- 10:53Speaker 1: going to be up to someone else to figure that out.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I think there's a fundamental just personnel issue with with ownership,
- 11:03Speaker 2: Like if ownership doesn't allow gms to go and spend money,
- 11:07Speaker 2: you can't do anything about that. And as good as
- 11:11Speaker 2: Mike Rizzo's been was like he probably you know, he's
- 11:18Speaker 2: the one that came out of this unscathed because they
- 11:20Speaker 2: won a World Series. But every year the organization, if
- 11:23Speaker 2: you go there at the end of the year, they
- 11:24Speaker 2: start cutting people. At the end of the year, they
- 11:26Speaker 2: cut coaches from their staff, they cut minor league coaches
- 11:30Speaker 2: out like it's a it's a fundamental it's an organization
- 11:33Speaker 2: that lacks fundamental like employee satisfaction, because I don't think
- 11:39Speaker 2: ownership really cares about what the product is on the field,
- 11:42Speaker 2: especially after they got there their World Series, So fans
- 11:46Speaker 2: should be pissed off when they don't make a move,
- 11:49Speaker 2: especially with the young core that they have in place.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah, they were always famous for trying to low ball managers.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Remember they almost had Bud Black they lowballed him. So anyway,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you can look all of that up. But we'll keep
- 12:02Speaker 1: everyone posted on the search here and see how it goes.
- 12:06Speaker 1: All Right, here we go, Tyler Glass. Now back on
- 12:08Speaker 1: foul Territory. Good to see you, Tyler, Crazy. Last few
- 12:11Speaker 1: days we were excited to talk to you about the
- 12:14Speaker 1: near no nos that are occurring. How you doing? And
- 12:18Speaker 1: do you know how many no hitters we've seen in
- 12:19Speaker 1: baseball this year?
- 12:23Speaker 3: I'm good, first of all. And no, is there zero? Right?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Isn't this like a like a no hitter season or something? Yeah? No,
- 12:29Speaker 3: it's a normal five.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, two thousand and five. Last time there was last
- 12:35Speaker 1: time there was not a no hitter in a season
- 12:38Speaker 1: was the year that the Chicago White Sox were led
- 12:41Speaker 1: by aj Prazunski and won a World Series.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Wait, how many an average year? Like two to one? Two?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Is there around two?
- 12:49Speaker 3: Two?
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not two per year, but two the last
- 12:53Speaker 2: fifteen they're averaging about four until this year.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Oh damn, so well, way to go. Time.
- 13:00Speaker 2: You almost got one, but we'll take us through it.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Were you like please or were you like, I know
- 13:10Speaker 1: you're gonna cab me. I'm already at what was it
- 13:11Speaker 1: one oh five or something? Through seven?
- 13:14Speaker 3: I think had one oh seven.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Uh, the start before, I had no hit through six,
- 13:20Speaker 4: and I had like a normal pitch count or like
- 13:22Speaker 4: enough to do it, and then I my seventh innings sucked,
- 13:24Speaker 4: so I didn't do it then, and.
- 13:25Speaker 3: That time it probably felt a little bit more real.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I think this time I.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Had like fifty pitches in the first two innings, so
- 13:31Speaker 4: I kind of figured just after seven, with one hundred
- 13:35Speaker 4: and seven pitches, I figured they weren't kinna let me
- 13:37Speaker 4: keep going.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I would have loved to, but I just think, like with.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Playoffs coming up, and I guess like my last few
- 13:43Speaker 4: years of like injuries, I completely understand obviously to anytime
- 13:47Speaker 4: you're in the game, and like someone asked you if
- 13:48Speaker 4: you want to stay, and you're always going to say yes.
- 13:50Speaker 4: It's kind of I'll always be like, yeah, just let
- 13:53Speaker 4: me keep going. But I respect the decision to take
- 13:56Speaker 4: me out.
- 13:56Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 13:58Speaker 2: What did he did he even give you the option
- 14:00Speaker 2: or when you came off the mount was Doc?
- 14:03Speaker 3: Like?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Was Doc like, hey, good job, you're done?
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:06Speaker 4: More of that one, which I kind of expected him
- 14:09Speaker 4: to a little bit. But yeah, I didn't really have
- 14:12Speaker 4: like the option to go back out or anything. If
- 14:14Speaker 4: I did, I would have tried to argue my case.
- 14:17Speaker 4: But it is what it is. The decision was made.
- 14:21Speaker 2: What you missed, you kind of got, you got scratched
- 14:25Speaker 2: just a few days before. Does that go into the
- 14:28Speaker 2: decision for Doc as Doc like, hey, you know what,
- 14:30Speaker 2: your back was a little cranky. We're gonna definitely probably
- 14:34Speaker 2: I get it's one hundred and.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Seven, Yeah, I think maybe a little bit.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I think just with that one hundred and seven pitch
- 14:42Speaker 4: count playoffs coming up, I think it was like a
- 14:44Speaker 4: factor of everything. I think too, it's kind of weird,
- 14:47Speaker 4: like not all one hundred and seven is created equal.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I guess like there's been some starts where I'm.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Like eighty pitches in and it's like high stressed innings
- 14:54Speaker 4: and everything like that.
- 14:55Speaker 3: You can kind of feel it. But that game I
- 14:57Speaker 3: didn't have.
- 14:57Speaker 4: A ton of runners on or any like sort of
- 15:00Speaker 4: high stress endings, and it felt like a pretty I
- 15:03Speaker 4: don't know, I felt like I could have gone a
- 15:05Speaker 4: lot more, But I just think it's it kind of
- 15:07Speaker 4: depends on the innings and what the one hundred and
- 15:10Speaker 4: seven pitches were, I think, But yeah, it is what
- 15:14Speaker 4: it is.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We ended up winning, which is good. So that's that's
- 15:16Speaker 3: all I want.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I was gonna say, what's the max you could go?
- 15:20Speaker 3: What's the what do you think you could pitches? Yeah?
- 15:23Speaker 3: I think a lot. I say.
- 15:25Speaker 4: The thing that's weird about starting is like once you
- 15:28Speaker 4: get to a certain limit, like you don't feel like
- 15:31Speaker 4: you get into that like anaerobic state when you're at
- 15:33Speaker 4: a hundred pitches, you don't feel like you need to
- 15:35Speaker 4: stop throwing. There's certain games, maybe like a couple of year,
- 15:38Speaker 4: where you're really fighting yourself all game and there's like
- 15:40Speaker 4: stressful innings and you're feeling tired. But something around like
- 15:43Speaker 4: eighty five ninety pitches, something happens. You get like that
- 15:46Speaker 4: second wind, and in my brain, I feel like I
- 15:48Speaker 4: can throw a ton of pitches. But I think that's
- 15:52Speaker 4: more of like adrenaline and like that anaerobic thing kicking in.
- 15:55Speaker 4: And I don't know if that's like the best measurement,
- 15:57Speaker 4: but it just it feels like you can pitch forever.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Certain point.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I think a lot of starters would relate to that feeling.
- 16:03Speaker 4: But after a certain amount of pitches, it just feels
- 16:05Speaker 4: like you can just keep going and going and going.
- 16:09Speaker 2: So how much more sore are you then? Once you
- 16:11Speaker 2: hit that what'd you say, eighty to ninety pitch count
- 16:15Speaker 2: on the next day, Like is it longer recovery or
- 16:19Speaker 2: is it longer days of recovery or more sore the
- 16:22Speaker 2: next day.
- 16:24Speaker 4: It's kind of there's not like a formula to it,
- 16:26Speaker 4: I'd say, I think the only thing I can really
- 16:28Speaker 4: notice is if I have like I'll have some games
- 16:30Speaker 4: where on four or five innings and it's high stress,
- 16:33Speaker 4: like mechanics aren't as smooth. You're kind of fighting yourself,
- 16:36Speaker 4: Like every pitch feels a little bit different. It's kind
- 16:38Speaker 4: of a more of a mental grind to stay locked in,
- 16:42Speaker 4: and it's just like a lot of effort to manufacture
- 16:45Speaker 4: the same stuff, same velo, And then there's certain games
- 16:49Speaker 4: like two days ago and I pitched, where everything is
- 16:51Speaker 4: just kind of lined up, and I think, like the
- 16:53Speaker 4: stressful innings is the biggest thing for me, I guess,
- 16:57Speaker 4: so I think like this time around, I'm not I
- 16:59Speaker 4: feel really good.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I don't feel that sore.
- 17:01Speaker 4: But there starts previously where I'll be at like eighty
- 17:04Speaker 4: five pitches and like a ton of runners on in
- 17:06Speaker 4: the stretch a lot doing all that, and then you
- 17:09Speaker 4: feel a bit more sore. But this week I feel fine.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I also had like being scratched like nine days, so
- 17:14Speaker 4: I had a lot more time. But I feel totally normal,
- 17:19Speaker 4: probably more on like the better end of normal after
- 17:21Speaker 4: this one.
- 17:23Speaker 3: That's good.
- 17:23Speaker 2: That's good. You mentioned the key, though, and you're no
- 17:25Speaker 2: hitter or almost no hitter that you guys won because
- 17:28Speaker 2: not long ago, not many games before that, you guys
- 17:30Speaker 2: had eight and two thirds.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Yamamoto, Harry was right there.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Halliday hits the home run and then all hell broke loose.
- 17:37Speaker 2: What were you guys thinking on the bench, because I
- 17:39Speaker 2: can't even imagine eight and two thirds you're thinking, hey, y'amamoto,
- 17:42Speaker 2: here we go, we got a no hitter, guys, and
- 17:45Speaker 2: then all of a sudden everyone's walking off. It was
- 17:48Speaker 2: It was one of the craziest games I've ever seen.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, they actually that was when I had like the
- 17:54Speaker 4: little backspats and they sent me home to get image
- 17:56Speaker 4: and everything was fine.
- 17:56Speaker 3: But I wasn't actually in the dugout that game. From
- 17:59Speaker 3: what I could tell on it was pretty I don't
- 18:02Speaker 3: know that would that would have.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Been pretty rough to sitting there for that, But yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 4: it just seemed like everything that lasting what went wrong
- 18:09Speaker 4: could have gone wrong and felt bad for Yama I
- 18:12Speaker 4: think like the ultimate thing that sucks as like ending
- 18:15Speaker 4: not winning that game.
- 18:16Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 18:17Speaker 4: He he pitched really well, he looked really good. I mean, yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 4: that was a It was a tough loss for sure.
- 18:22Speaker 4: That's probably one of the worst ones I've seen or
- 18:26Speaker 4: been a part of, just the feeling of course, like
- 18:28Speaker 4: just what could have been and then how it ended
- 18:31Speaker 4: up happening, just like the full one eighty.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I've never really been a part of anything like that.
- 18:37Speaker 2: So was it your fault? Did you move in your
- 18:38Speaker 2: hotel room? Like were you were you sitting there on
- 18:41Speaker 2: the as of your bed, and you're like, crap, I
- 18:43Speaker 2: got a pee, but I can't because got a Okay,
- 18:46Speaker 2: it's the eighth inning, come on, let's go. So did
- 18:49Speaker 2: you hear anything of anybody that moved during the during
- 18:52Speaker 2: the eighth ninth inning there where I was like it
- 18:55Speaker 2: was your fault?
- 18:57Speaker 4: No, honestly, I was so I was back home. I
- 19:00Speaker 4: was just watching the game, and then I went back
- 19:02Speaker 4: and like, I didn't. I didn't even want to ask
- 19:04Speaker 4: any questions. It was already like a few days past,
- 19:07Speaker 4: and then I don't want to.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Bring it back up. So I wasn't. I didn't.
- 19:10Speaker 4: I didn't bring it up again or talk about it.
- 19:13Speaker 4: It was one of those things where we all saw
- 19:14Speaker 4: what happened and we were like, let's just get that
- 19:16Speaker 4: out of our mind and just continue to play baseball.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Let's talk about your virtual private network. Do you have one?
- 19:24Speaker 1: You should have one, and aircrats take it away because
- 19:26Speaker 1: you're someone that definitely had your fair share of protection
- 19:30Speaker 1: when you were playing on the field, because you were
- 19:31Speaker 1: a catcher and you did not want to get hit
- 19:33Speaker 1: by a baseball, which I think surf Shark can help
- 19:37Speaker 1: you do in the online world when you're on the road.

- 20:21Speaker 2: Are you a no talk guy? Are you a no
- 20:23Speaker 2: talk during a no hitter guy? Or are you like
- 20:27Speaker 2: when you were in the sixth seventh inning, were you
- 20:29Speaker 2: don't talk to me guy? Or were you It's okay
- 20:31Speaker 2: to still talk to me and we can talk about
- 20:34Speaker 2: me having a no hitter.
- 20:36Speaker 3: That's fine.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I don't think anyone would come up and talk about
- 20:38Speaker 4: a no hitter just because, like there are certain people
- 20:42Speaker 4: who maybe you can't put now. Not really, I'd rather
- 20:44Speaker 4: just keep it normal, you know, Like I think everyone's
- 20:46Speaker 4: already aware.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Of what's going on. And I'm not a very superstitious person.
- 20:49Speaker 4: So I do I believe that if you do or
- 20:53Speaker 4: don't talk about it. I don't think anyone has that
- 20:54Speaker 4: much power to like dictate a no hitter from like
- 20:56Speaker 4: a supercision. But I'm a big like in between hitnings.
- 21:01Speaker 4: I don't sitting a dug out of ton. I like,
- 21:03Speaker 4: I'm a big pacer, Like I don't really like sitting down,
- 21:06Speaker 4: and I like to do like keep my heart rate
- 21:08Speaker 4: up a little bit.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I don't like to just sit there.
- 21:10Speaker 4: So I'm usually in the tunnel doing stuff like moving
- 21:14Speaker 4: around whatever it is I need to do, like there
- 21:16Speaker 4: a gun, whatever it is. So I'm kind of down
- 21:19Speaker 4: there talking to like coaches will come in, but I'm
- 21:23Speaker 4: not like pacing around in the dugout. It looks kind
- 21:26Speaker 4: of crazy with me walking back and forth, so I
- 21:28Speaker 4: just do it in the tunnel.
- 21:30Speaker 2: All right, Well, we have two catchers on here, and
- 21:33Speaker 2: there is one person that can dictate whether it's a
- 21:36Speaker 2: no hitter or.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Not, you know what I mean, not from words from
- 21:39Speaker 3: I know it's of course, yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Hitch calling Ben roor fans out there. He was with
- 21:44Speaker 2: the team for like one minute, like his uniform was
- 21:47Speaker 2: still drying, like yeah, and he goes out and almost
- 21:50Speaker 2: gets two no hitters in three games. How hard is
- 21:55Speaker 2: it to make that transition to a new catcher, And
- 21:58Speaker 2: how crazy is it that he came in and did
- 22:02Speaker 2: this for you guys in these three days.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's nuts.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I actually met him last year at a wedding and
- 22:09Speaker 4: he was with the Rays and I had some mutual
- 22:11Speaker 4: friends with him, and I got to know him relatively well,
- 22:13Speaker 4: like the night we talked.
- 22:15Speaker 3: And he's like super engaging.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I think he takes catching obviously very seriously, Like he's
- 22:19Speaker 4: always been known for his glove and his pitch calling,
- 22:21Speaker 4: and for him to come in and like fit in,
- 22:23Speaker 4: he's very personable and like fits in.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Well, it's hard to like jump around teams and stuff
- 22:29Speaker 3: like that. But he came in kind of had the
- 22:30Speaker 3: feeling of like.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Oh, this guy's been here a while, he's very comfortable,
- 22:33Speaker 4: got to talking to him, came in, caught a really
- 22:36Speaker 4: good game for Yama, and then it was just not
- 22:39Speaker 4: we got on the same page quick. Like first inning,
- 22:43Speaker 4: we had some pitch calling, some setup stuff, and then
- 22:45Speaker 4: like as the game went on, we got into a
- 22:46Speaker 4: really good flow and we were on the same page
- 22:49Speaker 4: the whole time. How my stuff was like leaking, Like
- 22:51Speaker 4: early on, I was yanking four seams and sliders, so
- 22:54Speaker 4: we kind of reverted to like a sinker. He started
- 22:58Speaker 4: shifting int arieties with the sinker to try to get
- 23:00Speaker 4: me more online, and that kind of started getting my
- 23:02Speaker 4: slider back on. My four seemed sort of sucked the
- 23:04Speaker 4: whole game, but he kind of navigated me back into
- 23:07Speaker 4: his zone really well. And then last night she hand
- 23:10Speaker 4: pitched and had a no hitter into the sixth. I
- 23:14Speaker 4: guess that wasn't him, but like just.
- 23:16Speaker 3: In general, like with the no hitters and stuff, it's
- 23:19Speaker 3: kind of wild. But yeah, I really loved throwing him.
- 23:21Speaker 3: He was He was kind of awesome. M that's good.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, what do you haven't talked to him since
- 23:29Speaker 1: he pitched in Tampa?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Didn't you pitch in Tampa.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Not that long ago?
- 23:33Speaker 3: No, I pitched what the series before I was in Tampa.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I didn't pitch that series, though, you pitch.
- 23:38Speaker 2: What was it like back in Tampa in hot your
- 23:41Speaker 2: old in your old stomping grounds, you didn't have to hitch?
- 23:44Speaker 3: I guess that's yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 4: It was the outdoor stadium in the summertime was crazy.
- 23:49Speaker 4: That was the hottest game.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I think any of us have played. But it was
- 23:52Speaker 3: cool to be back home.
- 23:53Speaker 4: And just to see everyone, like the staff and everyone
- 23:55Speaker 4: walking around like I hadn't been.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Back there in a long time. It gave me like
- 23:59Speaker 3: a tribute. That was really cool. I got to go back.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Home and sleep at home and see family and everything.
- 24:05Speaker 4: So it's a good, like little reset. I think anytime
- 24:08Speaker 4: you can go back and like sleep in your own
- 24:10Speaker 4: bed during the season, it kind of gives you this nice,
- 24:12Speaker 4: like at home feeling and you've just been gone for
- 24:15Speaker 4: so long.
- 24:15Speaker 3: But I enjoyed it. I like playing there or the
- 24:18Speaker 3: town itself. All right.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Every single freaking night we have some issue with a
- 24:23Speaker 2: PitchCom every night, yeah something. Have you ever had an
- 24:28Speaker 2: issue like you Darbis had the other day where he
- 24:31Speaker 2: was like pushing sinker. He was like over here pushing sinker,
- 24:35Speaker 2: pushing sinker, and Felix for me didn't hear it or something,
- 24:40Speaker 2: and he called curveball and so you was like, sure,
- 24:44Speaker 2: curveball and then gave up a ninger.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Now I've had the only thing I don't call my
- 24:48Speaker 4: own pitches or like, I don't have a like a
- 24:50Speaker 4: plate or whatever the thing is called. I just kind
- 24:52Speaker 4: of like will shake off with the catcher. The only
- 24:54Speaker 4: thing that sucks sometimes is the pitchclock when there's like
- 24:56Speaker 4: a guy on, and like I'll get a sign kind
- 24:58Speaker 4: of late and you're trying to shake back to a
- 25:02Speaker 4: sign you want and there's not enough time. And there's
- 25:04Speaker 4: been multiple times where I'm like at three seconds and
- 25:06Speaker 4: then like the last sign, I just.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Go all right whatever, and I'll just throw it.
- 25:10Speaker 4: And I'm like trying to get to like a slider,
- 25:11Speaker 4: let's say, and I've got two seconds left, and it's
- 25:14Speaker 4: like he just happens to be on sinker or fast
- 25:17Speaker 4: by and just.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Go find whatever, Like I'll get it out of the zone.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Or I'll put it where I want to try to
- 25:21Speaker 4: put it. But it happens kind of a lot. There's
- 25:23Speaker 4: a guy on.
- 25:24Speaker 3: You can step off, but there's no one on.
- 25:25Speaker 4: There's been some times with like three two two two
- 25:30Speaker 4: where it's like I can't. I just have to throw
- 25:32Speaker 4: whatever I can throw. It just sucks too, because like
- 25:35Speaker 4: hitters will get a time out in at bat and
- 25:38Speaker 4: I always figured we'd get like one or two PitchCom
- 25:42Speaker 4: things an inning, and like I think after a certain
- 25:44Speaker 4: amount of time, you can't step off and be like
- 25:45Speaker 4: my pitch COM's not working, or like it's not even
- 25:48Speaker 4: it's you can't get to the sign in time. I
- 25:49Speaker 4: wish we had like one of those an inning to
- 25:52Speaker 4: try to get on the same page because it's so
- 25:54Speaker 4: many times it's three two.
- 25:55Speaker 3: With no one on and you're like, all right, now
- 25:56Speaker 3: I gotta throw a pitch I don't want to throw,
- 25:59Speaker 3: so there.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Be a timeout, Like, is there is there a way
- 26:02Speaker 2: to like say, oh, well, this could cause an injury,
- 26:06Speaker 2: this could cause Obviously you could be like, oh I
- 26:08Speaker 2: don't want to throw that pitch. That could cause a run.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Majorly baseball doesn't care about that, But is there a
- 26:13Speaker 2: way that you could as a player's union bring it
- 26:18Speaker 2: up and say, hey, pitchers should have a timeout, which
- 26:21Speaker 2: I think they should, but you know, from a starting
- 26:23Speaker 2: pitcher it means more.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we've I think a lot of guys have talked
- 26:28Speaker 4: about that, like if a hitter gets the time out
- 26:30Speaker 4: in that bat, which I understand as well, Like I
- 26:32Speaker 4: think we should be able to have a timeout. And
- 26:35Speaker 4: there's a couple of different things I wish we could change,
- 26:37Speaker 4: like the pitch clock, for the warm up in between innings.
- 26:39Speaker 4: I wish it was a little bit longer, said, It
- 26:41Speaker 4: takes you a little bit of time to get out there.
- 26:43Speaker 3: You have time for like five or six warm ups.
- 26:46Speaker 4: And I think for me, especially like my first couple
- 26:48Speaker 4: of pitches are always slower in the inning just because
- 26:50Speaker 4: I don't feel like I'm fully ready to go and
- 26:52Speaker 4: I'm like in the tunnel doing stuff. I know a
- 26:55Speaker 4: couple of guys have some issues with that, and like
- 26:57Speaker 4: I do think we should get like at least a
- 26:58Speaker 4: time out in that bat. And I think in the
- 27:01Speaker 4: in the whole scope of trying to save time for games,
- 27:04Speaker 4: like a little bit extra time and some timeouts, it
- 27:06Speaker 4: is probably gonna add like a minute two minutes to
- 27:09Speaker 4: the overall time.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Of the games. I don't know, I think it would
- 27:12Speaker 3: be kind of nice.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Sorry, Krats, I thought you had another one.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Uh.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I want to ask you about uh a dude that
- 27:25Speaker 1: just returned to the team who seems to have an
- 27:27Speaker 1: impeccable record when he's playing for the Dodgers, and that's
- 27:31Speaker 1: Max Muncy. Do you see it and our guys joking
- 27:34Speaker 1: about it at this point because it's been going on
- 27:36Speaker 1: for a few years now.
- 27:38Speaker 4: When what are you saying, like when playing when we
- 27:40Speaker 4: have like a good team record. I I agrea the
- 27:43Speaker 4: guy like grinds out at bats, good ops, like he's good,
- 27:48Speaker 4: he's a I always remember too pitching against him, Like
- 27:50Speaker 4: he's a just a good hitter, like great on bass,
- 27:54Speaker 4: grinds out at bats.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Just yeah, I don't.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I don't know if the I'm sure they're correlated a
- 27:59Speaker 4: bit for sure, Like we've got a really good team.
- 28:01Speaker 3: There's a lot of guys on our team that I'm
- 28:02Speaker 3: sure if they play, our record is good.
- 28:04Speaker 4: But yeah, like when he's in the lineup, it's a
- 28:07Speaker 4: noticeable difference in my opinion for sure.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Last one for you, this one popped up about a
- 28:15Speaker 1: week and a half ago. What did you think of
- 28:17Speaker 1: the Framber Valdez cross up situation?
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:22Speaker 4: That was that was pretty not really I don't think
- 28:24Speaker 4: I've ever seen anything like that.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I'm sure have you guys seen it more?
- 28:27Speaker 4: I guess like maybe when you've played, was there more
- 28:30Speaker 4: of that or like no, I don't know, and I don't.
- 28:32Speaker 4: I also will say I don't know. I haven't talked
- 28:35Speaker 4: to him. I don't actually know if it was intentional,
- 28:38Speaker 4: like it potentially seems that way, but I don't have
- 28:42Speaker 4: like definitive answers on.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Any of that, so I don't know. But that was weird.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I'd never really seen anything like that.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Do you ever have you ever thought about doing that?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Have you ever been like so mad at a catcher
- 28:54Speaker 2: Let's say it was. I'm not saying you said it,
- 28:57Speaker 2: I'm saying it was intentional in my opinion, Have you
- 29:00Speaker 2: ever been that mad at a catcher that you're like,
- 29:04Speaker 2: this is what I'm gonna do.
- 29:06Speaker 3: No, not at all.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I also think like my attitude towards ketchers just to
- 29:10Speaker 4: be different, like because when I pitch, I'm a big
- 29:12Speaker 4: like I'll throw some thirty eight foot curveballs, I'll spike
- 29:14Speaker 4: some fifty four foot fastball like I'm more like my
- 29:17Speaker 4: bad so I'm not really trying to It's hard enough
- 29:20Speaker 4: catching me. I don't think I've ever gotten that at
- 29:22Speaker 4: a catcher like any No, not really. I think there's
- 29:26Speaker 4: been times I still would do anything like you get
- 29:27Speaker 4: mad at an umpire. Used to see like dudes call
- 29:31Speaker 4: curveball or whatever, like the catcher will drop down, the
- 29:33Speaker 4: heater will be like a heater up at the at
- 29:35Speaker 4: the umpire that makes more sense to me. Still not
- 29:38Speaker 4: gonna do it, don't like it, but like that type
- 29:41Speaker 4: of thing makes more sense to me than doing it
- 29:44Speaker 4: to your catcher, for sure.
- 29:45Speaker 3: I no, I've never wanted to do that.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Ever, you summed it up and you said you would
- 29:51Speaker 2: automatically be hey, I'm bad, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm
- 29:54Speaker 2: sure you've crossed a guy up somewhere along the way.
- 29:56Speaker 3: And.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Isn't to turn your back on the guy and walk
- 30:00Speaker 2: walk off the back of the mount. It's usually hey,
- 30:01Speaker 2: are you okay? That's what I generally what most pitchers
- 30:04Speaker 2: do is hey are you okay? Not turn your back
- 30:06Speaker 2: and walk away.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a rough one, especially being a catcher, Like
- 30:10Speaker 4: there's a lot of stuff going on.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It's a hard exposition.
- 30:15Speaker 2: And when I was on the rays with you and
- 30:18Speaker 2: Snell talk about your blocking practice, you too, Yeah, yard
- 30:24Speaker 2: darts up there and just like look around like probably
- 30:28Speaker 2: gonna do it again.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, I'm good for like five a game. Absolutely,
- 30:32Speaker 3: Like if I'm trying to tunnel a low heater with
- 30:34Speaker 3: a curve ball, it's like that's gonna be a in
- 30:37Speaker 3: front of the like on the dirt type of bounce.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Situation like on the plate, so it's not gonna Yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 4: it's it's tough. I can only imagine trying to catch
