Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: It's Tuesday, June third, and the Saint Louis Cardinals are
- 0:08Speaker 1: about to embark on a three game series here at
- 0:10Speaker 1: Bushetium against the Kansas City Royals. They just saw the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Royals not too long ago, about two weeks ago across
- 0:16Speaker 1: the state at Kaufman Stadium. But some big changes ahead
- 0:19Speaker 1: for this Royals team starting last night. Jalen Thompson from
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Kansas City Star as our guest host today he
- 0:25Speaker 1: covers the Royals, does a fantastic job and he's here
- 0:28Speaker 1: to tell us about a big shake up in Royals Land.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Jalen, what's the news.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Well, Jack Kaglion is finally coming to the big leagues.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:35Speaker 4: He will be in the lineup on Tuesday as they
- 0:38Speaker 4: play the Cardinals in the I seventy series.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And it's like Christmas in June. So the Royals needed this.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Jack Kaglion is a power hitter that has rival power
- 0:48Speaker 4: close to Sho Hail, Tawny, Aaron, Judge, you name it,
- 0:51Speaker 4: they got it in. He will be the first Royal
- 0:54Speaker 4: position player to debut one year after being drafted since
- 0:58Speaker 4: some guy named Bo Jackson in nightteen eighty six.
- 1:01Speaker 2: All right, a lot to unpack there.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Jack Kaglion, of course, one of the top prospects in baseball,
- 1:04Speaker 1: the Royals top prospect rated at least fifteen or higher
- 1:08Speaker 1: in most major prospect rankings.
- 1:10Speaker 2: The Athletic Skith Law has him at number thirteen, and he.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Like Jalen said, debuts today after spending less than a
- 1:16Speaker 1: year in the minor leagues. That Royals drafted him with
- 1:18Speaker 1: the number six overall pick in the twenty twenty four
- 1:22Speaker 1: draft last year, right before the Cardinals took JJ Weatherhol
- 1:25Speaker 1: at number seven.
- 1:26Speaker 2: So it couldn't have been a cardinal if not for
- 1:28Speaker 2: that for that pick.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But when you look at who Jack Kaglion is a prospect,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think you're looking at one of the most true
- 1:35Speaker 1: power backs, and not just his draft class, but all
- 1:37Speaker 1: of the minor leagues. He spent what just fifteen games
- 1:40Speaker 1: in a before being called up. Give us a scouting
- 1:42Speaker 1: report on mister Jack.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Jack cagleon his skill set is massive. When he hits
- 1:47Speaker 4: a baseball, it has a different sound to it. We
- 1:50Speaker 4: talked to a lot of guys and it's a unique
- 1:52Speaker 4: sound that really rivals the grace of our great sport.
- 1:56Speaker 4: But for the roles to be successful in bringing Jack
- 1:58Speaker 4: Kagalion along sliw and efficiently. He has to work on
- 2:02Speaker 4: his chase rate. That's been the key for him, and
- 2:04Speaker 4: that's part of the reason why he kind of slaid
- 2:06Speaker 4: in the draft last year. But he's been doing great.
- 2:08Speaker 4: He's hitting over three hundred in Triple A in the
- 2:10Speaker 4: minor leagues. And when you put up fifteen home runs
- 2:13Speaker 4: in over fifty RBIs in a fifty game stretch between
- 2:17Speaker 4: Double A and Triple A, I think that might cause
- 2:20Speaker 4: a concern for you to come up to the big leagues.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that'll definitely play. But like honestly, Jaylen, let's cut
- 2:25Speaker 1: to the chase. The Royals didn't necessarily want to expedite
- 2:28Speaker 1: kaglios past to the big leagues, right, But part of
- 2:31Speaker 1: their calling him up it's not just because he's been
- 2:32Speaker 1: breaking in Triple A, but because the Royals themselves find
- 2:35Speaker 1: themselves in a place where the offense really just has
- 2:38Speaker 1: not been clicking. They are thirty one and twenty nine
- 2:40Speaker 1: but fourth place in the Al Central. We'll get to
- 2:42Speaker 1: that division in a second. But what I think really
- 2:44Speaker 1: stands out about this Royals club is that they've scored
- 2:46Speaker 1: the third fewest runs and the majors. The offense has
- 2:49Speaker 1: been a problem. Two part question, well, how will Jack
- 2:54Speaker 1: help this lineup? But also do you feel like the
- 2:57Speaker 1: last thing you want to do when you're an organization
- 2:59Speaker 1: is put a ton of pressure to perform immediately on
- 3:01Speaker 1: your top prospect.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Do you feel like that's going to be the case here?
- 3:04Speaker 4: I think for the Worlds they want Jack to just
- 3:08Speaker 4: be himself. You know, Rold's manager Matt Putreal always says,
- 3:11Speaker 4: you got to knock down the door and you have
- 3:13Speaker 4: to force your way to the big league. Well, Jack
- 3:15Speaker 4: Cagalon forced the World's hands. They did not really want
- 3:18Speaker 4: to bring him up at this present moment. They wanted
- 3:21Speaker 4: him to get more seasoning in Triple A, face pitchers
- 3:23Speaker 4: multiple times, you know, adjust to different pitch types that
- 3:26Speaker 4: he's gonna see. But the World's offense they need him
- 3:29Speaker 4: right now. The last two games of their recent series
- 3:32Speaker 4: at home, they only scored one run in the eighteen innings.
- 3:36Speaker 3: That can happen.
- 3:37Speaker 4: You have a lineup with Bobby Wood, Junior, if Anie
- 3:38Speaker 4: pas Puenttino Salvador Perez, and All Star candidate mikel.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Garcia is having a breakout season.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Something has to click and for those guys, you need
- 3:47Speaker 4: a spark, you need some thumb.
- 3:49Speaker 3: In the middle of that lineup.
- 3:50Speaker 4: You have a lot of guys that can hit singles,
- 3:51Speaker 4: and they weren't driving runners in when they were in
- 3:54Speaker 4: a scorting position. That's why Jack Cagione is here in
- 3:57Speaker 4: Saint Louis today.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And we saw that a little bit and series in
- 4:00Speaker 1: early May or mid May, when the Cardinals took on
- 4:02Speaker 1: the Royals. And to me, you know, I think with
- 4:04Speaker 1: the Royals, you're always going to get a well pitched series.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They have it, they can. It's similar to the Cardinals
- 4:08Speaker 1: just coming back from the Rangers. And I know I
- 4:10Speaker 1: spent an entire episode Cardinal Territory talking about how the
- 4:13Speaker 1: Rangers never scored runs and then they thump the Cardinals.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Okay, whatever, I'm going to try not to curse them
- 4:17Speaker 2: this time.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But when you're looking at where the Royals are and
- 4:19Speaker 1: just how heavy this Ale Central Division is, I don't
- 4:22Speaker 1: think I've ever said that sentence before. I mean, you
- 4:24Speaker 1: have the Tigers, the Guardians are right in it. How
- 4:27Speaker 1: do the Royals feel any pressure? I know it's June third,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but we're a third of the way through the season.
- 4:31Speaker 1: To kind of stay afloat with those guys in front
- 4:33Speaker 1: of them.
- 4:33Speaker 4: I think, and this is my honest opinion, I really
- 4:37Speaker 4: feel like the Roylds saw what the Tigers did to
- 4:39Speaker 4: them this past weekend and they realized the gap that
- 4:42Speaker 4: they have to cover in the Al Central where right
- 4:45Speaker 4: now the Tigers are running away with it.
- 4:47Speaker 3: In the Worlds.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Who were considered to be top contenders this season coming in,
- 4:51Speaker 4: they are in fourth place. And that can't happen if
- 4:54Speaker 4: you want to have aspirations of getting back to the
- 4:56Speaker 4: division and winning it and also making the playoffs. That
- 4:59Speaker 4: was the whole thing this all all season. We got
- 5:02Speaker 4: to make it to the playoffs. You gotta win a
- 5:03Speaker 4: the division. We got to go further than we were
- 5:04Speaker 4: last year. Well is not going the way they wanted
- 5:08Speaker 4: to go right now. Granted they are over five hundred,
- 5:11Speaker 4: granted they are still in the thick of things, but
- 5:14Speaker 4: they want to be at a different spot, a different environment,
- 5:17Speaker 4: a different level, I should say, and the only way
- 5:20Speaker 4: they can get there is by making a change. They
- 5:22Speaker 4: tried everyone that they possibly could think of in the
- 5:25Speaker 4: minor leagues.
- 5:25Speaker 3: They made changes. MJ.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Melndez is in Triple A, Hunter Renfro is no longer
- 5:29Speaker 4: on the team. They still haven't found that bat in
- 5:31Speaker 4: the lineup, so that is where they have to, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 4: hit the red button and call up Jack kag Young
- 5:37Speaker 4: and let's see what can happen.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And here he is.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't think the Worlds have at leased their lineup
- 5:41Speaker 1: as we record this from two thirty pm before Tuesday's game.
- 5:44Speaker 2: But do you fully expect him to be in the
- 5:45Speaker 2: lineup today?
- 5:46Speaker 3: I fully expect him to be in the lineup.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I just I don't see a world where he doesn't
- 5:50Speaker 4: be in the lineup when he gets called up.
- 5:53Speaker 3: You know, the top prospect that got to play them,
- 5:55Speaker 3: you know, well.
- 5:57Speaker 1: For you, I know, as reporters were objective, I got it.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But when you have a circumstance like this, a top
- 6:02Speaker 1: prosect in baseball, first round pick, do you sit back
- 6:05Speaker 1: in this really when you're done with work, of course,
- 6:07Speaker 1: just really appreciate what you're seeing.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I love debuts.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I just think there's so much him I do.
- 6:12Speaker 4: And you gotta realize talking to Jack Caglong, his father,
- 6:17Speaker 4: his high school coaches, everyone that's connected to him, they
- 6:20Speaker 4: all know that this was possible.
- 6:23Speaker 3: They all felt this was possible.
- 6:25Speaker 4: They realized that he just need to be in the
- 6:27Speaker 4: right situation, in the right environment, and you're seeing what
- 6:30Speaker 4: you can see when a guy his nine home runs
- 6:33Speaker 4: in nine consecutive games in college at the University of Florida.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I think the power is gonna translate just fine. It's
- 6:39Speaker 4: gonna be the other things. Can you handle the ups
- 6:41Speaker 4: and downs? Facing pictures that aren't gonna throw him meatballs
- 6:45Speaker 4: or pitches that he can just hit over the fence.
- 6:48Speaker 4: A lot of movement, maybe it's a sweep or a
- 6:49Speaker 4: slider or a cutter, a changeup. You know, there's a
- 6:52Speaker 4: whole bunch of dynamics that go into this. And he's
- 6:55Speaker 4: learning a new position. He's going to be in the outfield.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Girls have Annie pass Portino at first base, so he
- 6:59Speaker 4: has some all that is going to come into play
- 7:02Speaker 4: for a twenty two year old. But this guy was
- 7:04Speaker 4: throwing ninety eight miles per hour as a high schooler
- 7:07Speaker 4: off the mound. It's hind home runs five hundred feet,
- 7:11Speaker 4: I promise you. I think he's going to be just
- 7:14Speaker 4: fine when he gets his feet ready before the rows.
- 7:16Speaker 1: All right, one last tagal on question because you mentioned
- 7:18Speaker 1: the position change came up as a first baseman, but
- 7:21Speaker 1: has spent a lot of time with longtime Roles coach
- 7:23Speaker 1: Rusty Kunts.
- 7:24Speaker 2: That is an actual name.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Cardinal Territory fans behave yourself, and he's done a lot
- 7:28Speaker 1: of work in making sure I mean Coffin Stadium, that's
- 7:30Speaker 1: a big place to play in the outfield. What have
- 7:32Speaker 1: you seen and heard defensively about what's been going on there?
- 7:35Speaker 4: For Jack, it's all about making sure that he has
- 7:39Speaker 4: the right mentality to be in the outfield. He's played
- 7:42Speaker 4: the position before. I talked to his dad. He said
- 7:44Speaker 4: when he was younger, day would workout every day and
- 7:47Speaker 4: he would hit multiple buckets of balls film in the outfield.
- 7:50Speaker 4: So he's not fearing out there. He knows how to
- 7:52Speaker 4: position himself be in the right area at the right time.
- 7:56Speaker 4: But the question is going to be can't you do
- 7:58Speaker 4: it at the bag league level? And that is where
- 8:00Speaker 4: the Royals have continued to put in different outfield coaches
- 8:03Speaker 4: and things like that, just to get him up the
- 8:04Speaker 4: speed and get him ready. He was playing the outfield
- 8:06Speaker 4: three to four times a week in the minor leagues.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Now he's going to be out here asked to play
- 8:10Speaker 4: it every day for the roles, and it's gonna take
- 8:13Speaker 4: some growing pains. Like I said, you know, they're gonna
- 8:15Speaker 4: probably have to use a defensive replacement for him, lay
- 8:17Speaker 4: in games until he gets his confidence, and they are
- 8:20Speaker 4: they're sure that he can handle it down the stretch.
- 8:22Speaker 4: But the bat is what the Royals said. They always
- 8:26Speaker 4: liked about him from the moment they drafted him. They said,
- 8:29Speaker 4: the bat will play, and the bat will give him
- 8:31Speaker 4: to the big leagues, and it got him here in
- 8:33Speaker 4: eleven months.
- 8:33Speaker 3: So it looks like they were writing that regard.
- 8:36Speaker 2: That'll definitely playing.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Cardinals fans obviously very familiar with taking a top prospect
- 8:40Speaker 1: and turning him into an outfielder.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Does the name Jordan Walker ring a bell?
- 8:44Speaker 1: And you know, I think when if your Royals fans
- 8:46Speaker 1: and you're have some rightfully high expectations for Kathleen Owan,
- 8:49Speaker 1: just remember it's a big it's a big adjustment from
- 8:51Speaker 1: Triple A to the major leagues and when you're learning
- 8:53Speaker 1: a brand new position. I mean, Cardinals fans sought with
- 8:55Speaker 1: two years of Jordan Walker, there are going to be
- 8:57Speaker 1: some ups and downs defensively and of course offensively too.
- 9:00Speaker 1: But today, locked in a bush tadium for one of
- 9:02Speaker 1: the most exciting debuts in baseball this year.
- 9:05Speaker 2: We'll preve you more of.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The Cardinals Royal Series coming up, but first, a quick
- 9:08Speaker 1: message from Arena.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Club ft fan by Now you know, if you're buying, selling,
- 9:13Speaker 5: trading collecting cards, Arena Club is the spot. We've been
- 9:17Speaker 5: talking about them all season long. But I do want
- 9:19Speaker 5: to focus on the slab pack experience, crats. Since you've
- 9:23Speaker 5: been ripping some slab packs digitally and what happens.
- 9:27Speaker 6: I mean, as a kid, you wanted to rip open
- 9:29Speaker 6: the packs. How can they do this digitally? Oh baby,
- 9:32Speaker 6: this is exciting. How the graphics come out and everything.
- 9:35Speaker 6: And oh yeah, the card that you pull you can
- 9:38Speaker 6: actually get that John physically, so it's perfect. It's all
- 9:42Speaker 6: in one place and it's a super exciting experience.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Yeah, they send that to you from the vault if
- 9:47Speaker 5: you want it. But if you look at it and
- 9:49Speaker 5: you're like, it's not the card for me, I want

- 9:53Speaker 5: of that on Arena Club and you can acquire the

- 10:04Speaker 5: purchase by going to arenaclub dot com slash foul and
- 10:07Speaker 5: use code foul. Arenaclub dot com slash foul, use code foul.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So for those of you who would like to learn
- 10:13Speaker 1: more about Jack Haglion, you can read all of You
- 10:15Speaker 1: can read all about it at the Kansas City Star.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Jalen has covered it extensively, and they'll be much more
- 10:22Speaker 1: to go after tonight's game. But let's talk a little
- 10:24Speaker 1: bit about this Cardinals Royals series. I mean, this is
- 10:27Speaker 1: the first time, not the first time we've seen them.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Of course, it's been again about two weeks. Like I said,
- 10:32Speaker 1: but I'm curious to know what your opinion was about
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Cardinals when you saw them in May.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I mean they were in the middle of the heater
- 10:40Speaker 2: during that. What was your impression.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Don't hit to no one? Are not at all at
- 10:43Speaker 4: third base. He's a vacuum over there. I don't know
- 10:47Speaker 4: how you guys just have a third basement of that
- 10:50Speaker 4: quality and debt talent.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Well they almost didn't straight them away.
- 10:54Speaker 3: But at the Cardinals play great defense.
- 10:56Speaker 4: They play sound baseball, and I think that is the
- 10:59Speaker 4: key or being able to make a deep run in
- 11:02Speaker 4: the postseason, should the Cardinals get there. For the Roles,
- 11:05Speaker 4: it's gonna be about just leaning on your principles. You
- 11:08Speaker 4: pitch and you play good defense as well. You have
- 11:10Speaker 4: a lot of nice guys that are going in this
- 11:13Speaker 4: series that potentially can turn the tide. To be honest
- 11:16Speaker 4: with you, this is a big series for the Roles.
- 11:18Speaker 4: They have to have a good start to their road trip.
- 11:21Speaker 4: They have three in Saint Louis, they have three in
- 11:22Speaker 4: Chicago against the White Sox. Then you go home and
- 11:25Speaker 4: you got the New York Yankees coming in, the Bronx Bombers,
- 11:28Speaker 4: and then a sneaky good Athletics team that is I
- 11:32Speaker 4: call them Sacramento Athletics because they playing Sacramento but there. Yes,
- 11:37Speaker 4: the Athletics are sneaky good and they're gonna be a
- 11:39Speaker 4: tough challenge at the K. So gotta win. This one
- 11:42Speaker 4: starts on Tuesday. The Rules are going to be trying
- 11:45Speaker 4: to fight their way forward.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And the Cardinals certainly feel that way as well. This
- 11:48Speaker 2: is the first We.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Talked about this in our last episode of Cardinal Territory.
- 11:51Speaker 1: This marks twenty eight games in twenty nine days. Support
- 11:54Speaker 1: went out for me personally, but this is a pretty
- 11:57Speaker 1: grueling June and the Cardinals had a nineteen to eight
- 11:59Speaker 1: record in May, the best record in baseball for that month,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and they've wire rewarded with one of the worst schedules
- 12:04Speaker 1: in June. They have just two op days, one of
- 12:06Speaker 1: which was yesterday, one more on June sixteenth, so they
- 12:09Speaker 1: want to get off to a good start. This is
- 12:10Speaker 1: their longest homestand of the season so far, three against KC,
- 12:13Speaker 1: three against Joheo Tani and the Dodgers this weekend, and
- 12:16Speaker 1: three against an up and coming Toronto Blue Jays club.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So it will be a big test for this team
- 12:21Speaker 1: that in my opinion, I think the Cardinals have been
- 12:23Speaker 1: one of the most surprising teams in baseball. Nobody really
- 12:26Speaker 1: had a lot of high expectations for them, myself included,
- 12:28Speaker 1: as we know.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I wouldn't say it was a hater level. I was
- 12:31Speaker 2: just realistic.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But you know, when you have a month like the
- 12:34Speaker 1: Cardinals do and you've surged back into contention. I know
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's only June, but this is going to be a
- 12:39Speaker 1: big month for the Cardinals because what they do in
- 12:41Speaker 1: June is going to dictate what John Mozelak does in
- 12:43Speaker 1: July around the trade deadline, and they have been so
- 12:46Speaker 1: good at balancing both runway and results. I think manager
- 12:49Speaker 1: Ali Marmal's done a heck of a job in that regard.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Now it's a matter of keeping it going, So Jalen,
- 12:54Speaker 1: when you look at what the Cardinals did at the
- 12:57Speaker 1: k a couple of weeks ago, to me, I started
- 12:59Speaker 1: being a Cardinal believer on that Saturday game Saint Louis
- 13:02Speaker 1: Pe Kansas City won to nothing. They just played a
- 13:04Speaker 1: heck of a defensive ballgame. And I get back in
- 13:06Speaker 1: the clubhouse and the vibes in that clubhouse were unlike
- 13:09Speaker 1: anything I'd seen since twenty twenty two when Albert Pooles
- 13:12Speaker 1: was in the clubhouse.
- 13:14Speaker 2: It seemed to me that they.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Had really fought in to what they could do on
- 13:18Speaker 1: that season based on that win over Kansas City.
- 13:20Speaker 2: So what's the vibe like for the Royals right now?
- 13:24Speaker 3: Right now?
- 13:25Speaker 4: The worlds, they always have a one day at a
- 13:28Speaker 4: proach mentality. They're not going to get too high, they're
- 13:30Speaker 4: not going to get too low. But I'm sure when
- 13:32Speaker 4: we walk into that clubhouse, and you've seen it with
- 13:35Speaker 4: some of the photos, there was Bobby Wood Junior and
- 13:37Speaker 4: Jack Cavalion riding on the on the one runway before
- 13:40Speaker 4: they got on the plane to come to Saint Louis.
- 13:42Speaker 4: They are excited, They're ready to bring this kid in.
- 13:46Speaker 4: They know that what he can provide can spark this offense.
- 13:49Speaker 4: So it's going to be I'm expecting even more of
- 13:52Speaker 4: a heightened sense of just relief, enjoyment, knowing that everyone's
- 13:58Speaker 4: called for this kid to be up here and they're
- 14:00Speaker 4: gonna do everything they can, from Bobby Wood Junior to
- 14:02Speaker 4: Salvadoperes the team captain, to Annie Patsportino to shelter him
- 14:06Speaker 4: and bring him in and allow him just be himself.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Because when that bat, and I promise you, if you
- 14:12Speaker 4: come to Bush Stadium this weekend you hear the sound
- 14:15Speaker 4: of the ball coming off of this young Phoenom's bat,
- 14:18Speaker 4: it is different and it is something that, like I said,
- 14:21Speaker 4: rivals Aaron Judge and sho Hey, it's on you.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I think it's my personally, am just so excited and
- 14:26Speaker 1: it's heating up at Bush Stadium. I know we've had
- 14:28Speaker 1: like crazy weather at home for the last two months,
- 14:30Speaker 1: but we did get a windy but sunny day, so
- 14:33Speaker 1: you know what in June, the ball start flying here finally,
- 14:35Speaker 1: so it should be a fun series. Now, the Cardinals
- 14:38Speaker 1: and the Royals have I think two of the most
- 14:40Speaker 1: exciting shortstops in the game, Bobby Wit Junior Mason win.
- 14:43Speaker 1: When you're looking at the two, where where is Bobby
- 14:47Speaker 1: Wit rank and shortstops right now in baseball?
- 14:49Speaker 4: I think he arguably, and this is a totally honest
- 14:53Speaker 4: opinion here, I really think he might be the best
- 14:56Speaker 4: shortstop in the league right now. And I say that
- 14:59Speaker 4: because they are numbers that he put up last year
- 15:01Speaker 4: that no shortstop has ever touched. He was the second
- 15:05Speaker 4: in MVP voting, and he would have won the MVP
- 15:07Speaker 4: if Aaron Judge didn't go off and hit sixty home
- 15:10Speaker 4: runs and just be the all purposing RBI machine that
- 15:15Speaker 4: he is in New York. But for Bobby, he is
- 15:17Speaker 4: a true definition of a five to a player. This
- 15:20Speaker 4: is someone that he turns a regular single for a
- 15:24Speaker 4: mere mortal into a double just by his speed out
- 15:27Speaker 4: the box. I mean, if you see him hit the
- 15:29Speaker 4: ball in the gap, you instantly think it's three. And
- 15:32Speaker 4: Bobby he said it himself immediately. That's his mentality. When
- 15:36Speaker 4: I hit in the gaps, I'm thinking three, and he's
- 15:38Speaker 4: not gonna slow down.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I've seen him do so many incredible things.
- 15:42Speaker 4: And just the thing, when he first came up in
- 15:44Speaker 4: the big leagues, they put him at third base because
- 15:47Speaker 4: they didn't believe that he had the ability to, you know,
- 15:50Speaker 4: maybe hand a shortstop right away.
- 15:52Speaker 3: What did he do?
- 15:53Speaker 4: He went, he worked on his game, he worked on
- 15:55Speaker 4: his craft, he cut down the errors, and he stayed
- 15:57Speaker 4: at shortstop.
- 15:58Speaker 3: And the rest is pretty much what right now. A
- 16:01Speaker 3: five to oh generational type athlete. Hit for power, game
- 16:04Speaker 3: for speed. I mean, he had led the league in
- 16:06Speaker 3: batting gaverage last year, almost won the home run Derby
- 16:10Speaker 3: is the only player with at least twenty home runs
- 16:13Speaker 3: in his first three professional seasons in MLB history. Never
- 16:16Speaker 3: been done.
- 16:18Speaker 4: He is someone that is just unique in all aspects
- 16:22Speaker 4: of the game. And also, I think one more thing
- 16:24Speaker 4: about Bobby Hi Junior. He's the most humble guy that
- 16:26Speaker 4: you know, you can think of. He's always gonna be thinking, wondering,
- 16:32Speaker 4: helping his teammates every which way.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Well, there at any time I've seen opposing team, there's
- 16:37Speaker 1: usually unless it's like the Rockies or something, someone that
- 16:40Speaker 1: I stop what I'm doing and I just watch one
- 16:43Speaker 1: at bat. For example, when the Dodgers come, I will
- 16:45Speaker 1: be locked in on Atani duh. But when the Royals
- 16:48Speaker 1: come to town or when the Cardinals go to Kansas City,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I am locked in and I try to just watch
- 16:53Speaker 1: one about objectively from Bobby wit Junior and South or Perez,
- 16:57Speaker 1: which growing up a Giants fan, I remember Salvi Perez
- 17:01Speaker 1: in twenty fourteen and twenty fifteen, and I remember thinking like, well, one,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I just remember thinking in twenty fourteen, I'm so glad
- 17:07Speaker 1: that he didn't ruin my life. But I just remember
- 17:09Speaker 1: thinking like, what an exciting career this person is going
- 17:11Speaker 1: to have. And now here he is in twenty twenty five,
- 17:14Speaker 1: a decade later, and he's still such an instrumental piece in.
- 17:17Speaker 2: This world's ball club.
- 17:19Speaker 1: For Salve to kind of do the entire cycle from
- 17:21Speaker 1: World Series champion to daunting rebuild and now calwing your
- 17:24Speaker 1: way back into playoff contention after a very surprising twenty
- 17:27Speaker 1: twenty four season, what kind of growth have you seen
- 17:29Speaker 1: from him over the last.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Couple of years.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Salvey continues to just be the ultimate leader, the ultimate patriarch,
- 17:36Speaker 4: as you can say of this Royal's team. Just from
- 17:39Speaker 4: what he's meant to the organization. Last year during the
- 17:42Speaker 4: playoff run, every player, no matter who we spoke to,
- 17:46Speaker 4: they said, we want to do this for Salvey because,
- 17:48Speaker 4: like you mentioned, he went through a rebuild. There was
- 17:51Speaker 4: times when they had the worst record in their franchise
- 17:54Speaker 4: history in twenty twenty three, when they only won fifty
- 17:56Speaker 4: six games. He stayed around. He stuck around. He is
- 18:00Speaker 4: Kansas City to the core. Everyone knows Salvi, everyone loves Salvie,
- 18:04Speaker 4: and I think the biggest growth for him is just
- 18:07Speaker 4: continuing to be that light for the younger generation that's
- 18:10Speaker 4: coming up behind him.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That means that he has to just be himself.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Doesn't matter if he's having a slump or he's red hot,
- 18:16Speaker 4: because he knows people who are watching. And look what
- 18:18Speaker 4: he's meant to Freddy, for me, mikel Garcia, young Venezuelan
- 18:22Speaker 4: players that have come up after him. He is the
- 18:25Speaker 4: star wars for the roles and like I said, Salvi
- 18:28Speaker 4: is just Salvie and there's no debate about that one.
- 18:31Speaker 1: All Right, we'll wrap this up pretty soon quick though.
- 18:33Speaker 1: A message from our friends at rowback. Ope, that's not it.
- 18:38Speaker 1: That's my reminder that I need to play the Rowback app.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Let me, dang it, I just being so good on
- 18:41Speaker 1: the ad reads guys. But minor set back here we go.
- 18:44Speaker 5: The weather is warming up, and with that being said,
- 18:47Speaker 5: you need to check out what rowback is bringing to
- 18:50Speaker 5: the table. If you're a golfer especially and you're looking
- 18:52Speaker 5: for golf shirts that just have the perfect style and
- 18:55Speaker 5: also are soft. They're lightweight and perfect for the summertime,
- 18:59Speaker 5: Roback is the spot.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Of course.
- 19:01Speaker 5: FT's hooking you up with the code for twenty percent
- 19:03Speaker 5: off at rowback dot com. That's f o U l
- 19:07Speaker 5: on r ho BA c K dot com for twenty
- 19:10Speaker 5: percent off all shorts, hoodies, polos and more.
- 19:15Speaker 1: All right, Jalen, if you're looking at the Royals right now,
- 19:17Speaker 1: obviously we want to see some good things out of
- 19:19Speaker 1: Jack kackling one. But what do you know or what
- 19:21Speaker 1: do you think the Royals need to do to take
- 19:23Speaker 1: this series again? We're going to see some really well
- 19:25Speaker 1: pitched games under Polante Michael Lorenzen game one and then
- 19:29Speaker 1: I believe Noah Cameron takes them Mount game too and.
- 19:31Speaker 2: TBA for game three.
- 19:33Speaker 1: YEAHDVA Michael Wilson game for the second game and Matt
- 19:36Speaker 1: deliberator for the third game for the Cardinals.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Yeah, the Worlds. They have to lean on their pitty staff.
- 19:40Speaker 4: That's what they have to do all season. You mentioned
- 19:42Speaker 4: Michael Lorenz and it starts with him. He has to
- 19:45Speaker 4: have a better performance than he had his last time out,
- 19:47Speaker 4: and I think big crowd, big I seventy series, he
- 19:51Speaker 4: could definitely step up and rise to the occasion. I'm
- 19:53Speaker 4: really excited about the Wednesday matchup with Noah Cameron. Noah
- 19:57Speaker 4: Cameron is a stud. People rave about him. I remember
- 20:02Speaker 4: just seeing his growth. He wants the moment, he loves
- 20:06Speaker 4: the moment, so I think that's gonna be fun to
- 20:08Speaker 4: see him pitch, and it's gonna be I think it's
- 20:10Speaker 4: gonna be a pitture series between both sides.
- 20:12Speaker 3: And that TBA could be Cole Reagans.
- 20:14Speaker 4: This depends on how well he's feeling and if they
- 20:17Speaker 4: decide to activate him from the injury list.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind seeing Cole Reagan's pitch, but that would
- 20:22Speaker 1: again make for a tough test for this Cardinal's position
- 20:25Speaker 1: playing squad, which up in the Athletic you can read
- 20:27Speaker 1: about how Oli marmal is switching up the playing time.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You're gonna see a little bit more of Nolan Gorman
- 20:32Speaker 1: after he kind of rode the bench for the last
- 20:33Speaker 1: couple of weeks. Jordan Walker still on the IL, projected
- 20:36Speaker 1: to be back very soon, within the next week or so.
- 20:39Speaker 2: So yeah, you'll see a lot of rotating guys.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Nolan Gorman is in the lineup today playing second base,
- 20:44Speaker 1: Brendon Donovan in left field. We'll see how this goes
- 20:47Speaker 1: for the Cardinals. That's certainly a big test for both
- 20:49Speaker 1: the Cardinals and the Royals. And that's my cue to
- 20:51Speaker 1: get out of here. You can follow Jalen. Thank you
- 20:54Speaker 1: so much for doing this right away. He is available,
- 20:56Speaker 1: hold on where is It on Twitter at Jalen Tom
- 21:00Speaker 1: and read all of his good work at the Kansas
- 21:01Speaker 1: City Star.
- 21:03Speaker 2: For Jalen, I'm Katie Woo. Thanks for watching Cardio Territory.
- 21:06Speaker 1: We'll give out earlier or later in the week.
