- 0:00Hi, this is Stephanie Maas.
- 0:02Today I want to talk to you about a really great way to make a decision.
- 0:07The biggest challenges that we are seeing in the hiring market today, there's actually quite a few challenges.
- 0:12One of the biggest ones is what I'll call analysis paralysis.
- 0:17Everybody is so afraid of making the wrong decision.
- 0:21They make no decision, which is a hundred percent of the time, the wrong decision.
- 0:27So let me walk you through a couple of ways to make sure that you can make a good decision, regardless of what the actual decision is.
- 0:35Recently, I was in a quandary about making a decision and candidly, it was driving me nuts.
- 0:42I really couldn't decide, do I go this way?
- 0:45Do I go that way?
- 0:47But as long as I was in that process.
- 0:50Honestly, I was a little nutty.
- 0:52And then I remembered some sage wisdom from Mr.
- 0:55Miyagi in the Karate Kit, and it helped put things in perspective.
- 1:00Here was his advice.
- 1:01Grape, left side of the road, okay.
- 1:05Grape, right side of the road, okay.
- 1:08Grape in the middle, okay.
- 1:09Squish.
- 1:11As long as I stayed indecisive, it was making me that.
- 1:14I needed to make a decision and move on.
- 1:17The reality is, most of us are not making life and death decisions every day.
- 1:22We're just not.
- 1:23And as long as we stay in that middle of the road, we're miserable.
- 1:27And usually we make those around us miserable.
- 1:29So my first piece of counsel is go with your gut.
- 1:33Most people in hindsight say, ah, if I had just gone with my gut, that would have been the right thing.
- 1:40That's what you need to do.
- 1:42Do a gut check right after an interview.
- 1:44Is this feel right?
- 1:46Now I'm not saying that means that's your decision, but then what you do is you follow up.
- 1:51Every conversation, every interview after that, looking for evidence to either support your decision or your gut instinct or to make it contrary to that.
- 2:02So go with your gut.
- 2:03Second thing is you've got to take the pressure off.
- 2:06I know we all have P& Ls and budgets that we are responsible for and it makes it very difficult.
- 2:13But here's the bottom line, right or wrong, honestly, you'll never know.
- 2:18But what you do is you make a decision and then you make it right.
