- 0:00Speaker 1: In the capital city, you were traveling safely. Hopefully, if
- 0:02Speaker 1: you're traveling around the state of Texas today, you are
- 0:05Speaker 1: traveling safely as it is that time of the year
- 0:08Speaker 1: where the traffic will be absolutely awful. If you are
- 0:11Speaker 1: sitting and bumpered upper bumper traffic on three sixty or
- 0:14Speaker 1: mopack wherever, just know that you have a friend in
- 0:18Speaker 1: me because we have been bumper to bumper before and
- 0:21Speaker 1: will be bumping to a bumper again. So don't worry
- 0:23Speaker 1: about that. But until you get where you need to go,
- 0:26Speaker 1: you have US Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone. Well,
- 0:29Speaker 1: we have a jam packed show for you. We have
- 0:31Speaker 1: our friend from the West Coast, Zachariah joining us talking
- 0:34Speaker 1: a little NBA action about fifteen minutes. The former Warriors
- 0:38Speaker 1: pre and post game host five years on the Home
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the Warriors ninety five to seven, the game out
- 0:43Speaker 1: there in the Bay Area. He's going to tell us
- 0:46Speaker 1: a little bit about what's happening on the West Coast
- 0:48Speaker 1: as the NBA Free agency has hit its fever pitch.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You know it's getting hot, you know it's getting heavy.
- 0:55Speaker 1: When Lebron James at age forty one is talked about
- 0:59Speaker 1: as potentially the big name free agent. We'll explain all that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We'll talk to zach Arya in about fifteen minutes. Also
- 1:05Speaker 1: coming up this hour is inconceivable and we will be
- 1:08Speaker 1: talking to our ACE producer, Cole Dixon about Fourth of
- 1:12Speaker 1: July traditions. Do you have any we want to hear
- 1:15Speaker 1: from you? Use the free iHeart Radios talkback feature to
- 1:19Speaker 1: tell us your Fourth of July tradition? You're Burger's in
- 1:22Speaker 1: brox person or do you put catchup on your hot dog?
- 1:25Speaker 1: We want to hear all of it. Use the iHeartRadio
- 1:27Speaker 1: apps talkback feature to talk to us. And until we
- 1:31Speaker 1: get there, let's hear from call our ACE producer. How
- 1:34Speaker 1: are you today, buddy.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm doing well man.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm glad the key cart still works here, so that's
- 1:38Speaker 1: always a plus. But I mean, it's a Thursday, Thursday,
- 1:42Speaker 1: getting ready for Fourth of July. I'm pumped up to
- 1:44Speaker 1: be here, man. I'm excited to share these airways with
- 1:46Speaker 1: you exactly.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I always find it very interesting the day before a holiday.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Everybody times it out perfectly. Our morning show down in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the Alamo City, I feel like they wrestle to figure
- 1:57Speaker 1: out who has the day before Fourth of lyoff and
- 2:00Speaker 1: have the day after fourth of July off because that
- 2:02Speaker 1: is a lucrative holiday, especially when it lands on a Friday,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and try to get that four day maybe even a
- 2:08Speaker 1: five day vacation if you can swing it. But we
- 2:10Speaker 1: got to start here. This is the biggest story of
- 2:12Speaker 1: the day. And it's ironic that our friend Craig Way
- 2:15Speaker 1: is not here to talk to us about it, because
- 2:17Speaker 1: it is a Dodgers baseball story that is right on
- 2:21Speaker 1: fifteen occasions. Clayton Kershaw had two strikes to an opening
- 2:25Speaker 1: hitter in front of fifty three thousand fans. They clapped,
- 2:30Speaker 1: they yelled, they hopped up and down, they got excited
- 2:32Speaker 1: until finally he reached the historic mark. And here's what
- 2:37Speaker 1: it sounded like when he had his three thousandth career strikeout.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Gravine risers ready to erupt, and you.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Can hear that applause. You can hear those cheers of
- 3:17Speaker 1: the fifty three thousand fans in attendance to see Kershaw's
- 3:22Speaker 1: three thousand strikeout. Now he has all exaclades. It's three
- 3:26Speaker 1: times styt Young, a winner, the former MVP in twenty fourteen,
- 3:30Speaker 1: ten All Star Games five era titles, A Championship ring.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He might be the greatest pitcher of his generation. Fourth
- 3:39Speaker 1: left hander to reach three thousand strikeouts, joining in my
- 3:42Speaker 1: mind the goat of pitchers. It's Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton
- 3:46Speaker 1: and C. C. Sabathia, which I will tell you when
- 3:49Speaker 1: you go to your fourth or July party tomorrow, throw
- 3:52Speaker 1: that little tidbit out there, say that there is a dimingback,
- 3:55Speaker 1: a Philadelphia Philly and a Yankee who joined Kershaw. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: I want to see how many people actually get it right,
- 4:02Speaker 1: because technically, Ran Johnson played for a bunch of teams.
- 4:05Speaker 1: He's probably most famous for winning World Series MVP in
- 4:07Speaker 1: two thousand and one with Kurt Shilling. Steve Carlton obviously
- 4:12Speaker 1: he's affiliate, but you know he also played for the
- 4:13Speaker 1: Cards and CC Sabathia. I thought of him as a
- 4:16Speaker 1: Cleveland Indian, maybe a brewer. They threw out he was
- 4:20Speaker 1: a Yankee, and I was like, okay, I guess he's
- 4:22Speaker 1: a Yankee. So all of these guys played on different teams.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Kershaw currently the only one who is going into the
- 4:29Speaker 1: Hall of Fame as a Dodger, The only one of
- 4:32Speaker 1: those three, I should say, who's played for one team
- 4:34Speaker 1: his entire career. He's also the third active player to
- 4:38Speaker 1: join the three thousand strikeout list. He joins Max Schurzer
- 4:43Speaker 1: and Justin Verlander, who are the two others in many
- 4:47Speaker 1: people's mind. The quote goats the greatest of all time,
- 4:50Speaker 1: of his generation. It's ironic that this you have these
- 4:55Speaker 1: three guys Scherzer, Verlander, Kershaw. For the longest time I
- 4:59Speaker 1: would have put really had a Kershaw in a different
- 5:01Speaker 1: class insurreser. But now all three of them World Series champions,
- 5:06Speaker 1: all three of them World Series winners, three thousand strikeouts,
- 5:11Speaker 1: they're all gonna be Hall of famers as well. It's
- 5:13Speaker 1: one of those things that is just truly incredible. He's
- 5:17Speaker 1: one of five to accumulate with one team. So the
- 5:20Speaker 1: others who played espied a little earlier, carl Or Johnston,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Carlton Sabbathi all played multiple teams. Kershaw joins Walter Johnson,
- 5:30Speaker 1: Bob Gibson, Carlton obviously and John Smoltz all as guys
- 5:34Speaker 1: who did it all with one team.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Kershaw went on to talk about how he put up
- 5:39Speaker 1: a ton of stocking his team early on. He felt
- 5:41Speaker 1: very good and oh, by the way, the Dodgers ended
- 5:43Speaker 1: up winning that game five to four in a comeback victory.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You wonder how much you had to pay to get
- 5:49Speaker 1: into the stadium for a game like that when you
- 5:51Speaker 1: know there's a chance that Kershaw gets strikeout number three thousand.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It's a Dodgers team that is filled to the gills
- 5:58Speaker 1: with talent, coming up a World Series championship, filled to
- 6:01Speaker 1: the gills with payroll, and it all paid off last night.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I continue to think to myself as we've gone through
- 6:11Speaker 1: Kershaw's career because if you remember, he came in as
- 6:14Speaker 1: a flamethrowing lefty. He's worked his way into having an
- 6:17Speaker 1: incredible curveball. He's an MVP obviously, and he was also
- 6:21Speaker 1: a playoff choker for the longest time. He was a
- 6:23Speaker 1: guy that when you talked about the big moment, there's
- 6:26Speaker 1: a lot of guys on the list you would have
- 6:28Speaker 1: picked ahead of him. He gets that World Series ring
- 6:30Speaker 1: last year, he kind of is able to shrug off
- 6:33Speaker 1: some of those doubters. He's able to shrug off the
- 6:36Speaker 1: playoff choking label. And now, look, I'm a big baseball guy, obviously.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You hear me wax poetically about the game anytime I
- 6:46Speaker 1: come on the air. I love baseball. I wonder where
- 6:50Speaker 1: this pert's Kershaw all time, because he's still to me
- 6:53Speaker 1: in that list of all time great pitchers for the
- 6:56Speaker 1: twenty first century. I don't know if I put him
- 6:58Speaker 1: on that list of guys all time with Bob Gibson.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Of course, former Dodger City Kofax would be on my
- 7:04Speaker 1: Hall of Fame Mount Rushmore as well. But it feels
- 7:07Speaker 1: like this was an accumulation of an entire career and
- 7:10Speaker 1: last night, in front of fifty three thousand fans, strikeout
- 7:13Speaker 1: number three thousand for Kershaw feels more like a coronation.
- 7:18Speaker 1: If there was any sort of question about this guy
- 7:21Speaker 1: being a first ballot Hall of Famer, that those completely
- 7:24Speaker 1: evaporate with him being able to get to this mark.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I'm excited. Obviously. The Dodgers are the preemptive favorite
- 7:31Speaker 1: to win the World Series, even in early July. When
- 7:35Speaker 1: you look at the standings, they are a team that
- 7:38Speaker 1: it is battled back from a slow start fifty five
- 7:40Speaker 1: to thirty two on the season. Right now, eight and
- 7:42Speaker 1: a half game lead on the Padres, a nine game
- 7:44Speaker 1: lead on Cole's Giants. They feel like the team in
- 7:49Speaker 1: the National league that is primed to make a deep
- 7:52Speaker 1: rum and as we get into a quote unquote the
- 7:55Speaker 1: dog days of summer, right, this is a time period
- 7:58Speaker 1: where there's not a lot of other sports going on.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I implore you with the way that baseball has been played,
- 8:05Speaker 1: especially in the National League, there are a lot of
- 8:07Speaker 1: very good teams the National League Central, not the best
- 8:10Speaker 1: teams in the world, but it's a very tight race
- 8:12Speaker 1: currently for that division. And you wonder as we get
- 8:15Speaker 1: closer to the trade deadline coming up in a couple
- 8:17Speaker 1: of weeks, if there will be some movement, if there
- 8:20Speaker 1: will be some players getting moved. So if there's a
- 8:22Speaker 1: time to get on the baseball bandwagon, if there's a
- 8:26Speaker 1: time to get on to watch some of these guys
- 8:29Speaker 1: and some of these players and some of these teams
- 8:30Speaker 1: move around, this would be the time to do it.
- 8:33Speaker 1: In my mind, and I'm happy for Kershaw. I'm very
- 8:37Speaker 1: anytime any of these guys who I saw and grew
- 8:40Speaker 1: up with and watched for a long period of time,
- 8:43Speaker 1: any of these guys who have a chance to do
- 8:45Speaker 1: something the legendary and cement themselves in the history of
- 8:48Speaker 1: the game, especially a game like baseball that is so
- 8:50Speaker 1: rich and so the tapestry is so magnificent when those
- 8:54Speaker 1: guys can get into that list and put themselves in
- 8:57Speaker 1: those conversations. I personally very excited to say that I
- 9:01Speaker 1: was able to watch their career from start to finish.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And we'll see where Kershaw and the Dodgers end up
- 9:09Speaker 1: in the regular season. If they win the Pennant again
- 9:11Speaker 1: this year, if they win the World Series again this year,
- 9:13Speaker 1: then Kershaw is a no doubt Hall of Famer. But
- 9:16Speaker 1: to stick around for as long as he has to
- 9:18Speaker 1: get strike out number three thousand, it means something to me.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It does, It truly does. So. Okay that we've waxed
- 9:25Speaker 1: poetically enough about the sport of baseball and Kershaw, and
- 9:28Speaker 1: we'll talk about what this means for the Dodgers a
- 9:30Speaker 1: little bit later on in the show as well. But
- 9:32Speaker 1: we join by zach at zach Sports on Twitter. Zacharya
- 9:36Speaker 1: from the Bay Area is going to join us to
- 9:38Speaker 1: talk NBA. As free agency continues to heat up. There's
- 9:41Speaker 1: talk about a potential buyout for Lebron James. What would
- 9:45Speaker 1: this mean if Lebron becomes a free agent for the
- 9:48Speaker 1: first time since twenty nineteen, and do you have to
- 9:51Speaker 1: buy his kid out as well. We'll talk about all
- 9:53Speaker 1: that next to Zacharya on Craig Wait's show, as andrewsi
- 9:55Speaker 1: Will sits in for Craig on Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 9:58Speaker 1: hundred The Zone
