Hello and welcome to this week's PCJ Pop.
• 0:11
My name is Shauna and I'm Olivia.
• 0:15
And this week for my PCJ Pop, I am going to talk about what is widely considered one of
• 0:21
the greatest anime's of all time, even though it only lasted one season.
• 0:28
So yes, so Berserk is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series by Kentaro Miora.
• 0:36
Sorry if I said that wrong.
• 0:39
It is an ongoing manga series, but it was adapted to an anime in 1997 and only ran for one
• 0:50
  season.
• 0:51
  This anime is so insane.
• 0:55
  It follows guts.
• 0:57
He is known as the Black Swordsman and when we first see him, he is this disgruntled warrior
• 1:02
  with this humongous oversized sword.
• 1:06
  One eye is permanently closed.
• 1:08
  He's been through some shit.
• 1:10
  We don't know what.
• 1:12
Jump into the next episode and it tells the entire story of the ship that he went through.
• 1:20
  So he was a lone...
• 1:22
No, he was a lone Swordsman who joined a band of mercenaries led by this...
• 1:31
  A band of men.
• 1:33
  Pretty much.
• 1:34
There is a lady in it, but it is a mercenary group led by a very charismatic leader named
• 1:40
  Griffith.
• 1:41
Griffith is handsome and blonde and charming and rides on a white steed and all the women
• 1:48
  love him, right?
• 1:50
And it follows the story of his relationship with Griffith and the rest of the band of Hawk
• 1:56
and ultimately what led him to be that disgruntled messed up warrior that we see in that future jump.
• 2:04
I won't spoil it even though it did come out in 1997.
• 2:08
Pair, we're recommending they watch it.
• 2:10
I did randomly date a blonde man named Griffith.
• 2:14
  Oh, in real life.
• 2:16
  Was he a good person?
• 2:17
  He was nice.
• 2:18
  He's a true man.
• 2:21
I'm dating one, so I guess right.
• 2:24
  I am trusting one.
• 2:25
  Blake is the only...
• 2:26
He's the exception to the rule.
• 2:28
He's the one blonde man we can trust.
• 2:31
But yeah, this anime is extremely triggering.
• 2:36
  It is very, very hyper-violent.
• 2:39
Blood and guts in limbs, in sex and sexual assault and demons.
• 2:47
It is really fucked up and depressing and I could not get enough of it, right?
• 2:53
  It is...
• 2:54
  It was so...
• 2:55
I don't know if you're telling me on that last couple of seconds.
• 2:58
  Oh my gosh.
• 2:59
It's messed up and depressing and I loved it.
• 3:03
  So fucked up.
• 3:04
  And I loved it.
• 3:05
  I couldn't stop watching it.
• 3:07
Every time we finished an episode, I was like, can we please watch the next episode of
• 3:10
  The Zirk?
• 3:11
I need to see what leads him to be that...
• 3:14
Like that depressed monstrous guy that we see in that future jump.
• 3:18
Because when he starts at the band of the Hawk, they're going in adventures together, right?
• 3:22
  They're defeating bad guys.
• 3:24
And we see him in the future jump and he's all alone.
• 3:28
So it was so difficult to...
• 3:30
  Where were you watching?
• 3:31
You can watch it on Crunchyroll.
• 3:33
  Fun fact though.
• 3:34
It was so difficult to adapt this into an anime.
• 3:38
They tried making it remaking in 2017 with plans to continue it and it was so horribly reviewed.
• 3:47
They did like a CG version of it.
• 3:50
It's widely thought that it's never going to get a season two and it will never be adapted
• 3:54
  to anime ever again.
• 3:56
So if you want to know what happens after that first season, you have to read the manga.
• 4:00
  That's too damn bad.
• 4:02
And there's a million volumes of this and each one is like that thick.
• 4:06
So I think I'm about to get in real deep into some reading here soon.
• 4:12
But my Pop for the week is going to be the 1997 Berserk anime adaptation.
• 4:20
And that is your PCJ Pop for the week.
