- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Before I get into today's episode, I want to give you a quick update on some changes that you'll see here on the podcast beginning December the 1st.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: The Daily Writer Podcast launched about three years ago in November 2020.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And since that time, we've produced well over a thousand daily episodes, and we featured about 150 guest interviews.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And after talking so much about daily writing and the importance of writing habits, I want to shift the conversation to the biggest point of frustration that I hear about from writers, which is how to actually build a business around your writing.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to announce that on December the 1st, we will officially launch the Profitable Writer Podcast.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: The purpose of this show, as well as a book and membership community that you'll hear about very soon, is to give you the inspiration, motivation, and a clear roadmap to building a writing business that gives you part-time or full-time income.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: The format of the podcast will be different.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: We'll still do a weekly interview in addition to one or two other episodes per week, but it won't be a daily podcast.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And if you really love the daily format, I encourage you to go back into the archives and listen to any of the thousand plus episodes that we have there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: You'll hear much more in the coming weeks about the Profitable Writer Podcast and more, but you don't need to do anything different because it'll still stay in the same podcast feed.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: However, you will notice a name change along with new podcast artwork.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: As always, thanks for listening, and let's get into today's episode.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Van Halen was one of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s and 80s.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Even though they had a number of popular songs and albums, they're probably best remembered for their amazing song Jump, which was featured on arguably their best album, 1984.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Now, the song Jump is great for a lot of reasons, including its catchy lyrics, great drum fills, and of course Eddie Van Halen's amazing guitar licks.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: But who could forget the music video for Jump, which featured the band running around on stage in spandex and massive early 80s hairstyles?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Well, the word jump is not just a great title for a popular rock song, it's also great advice as you consider your next step to success in your writing life.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: As you're thinking about that next project or that next step, you're probably dreading it a little bit.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: You're not sure how you're going to get it done, and maybe you feel intimidated or scared.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: One of the defining qualities of successful people, no matter their industry, is that they take action now and figure it out as they go along.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: The famous science fiction writer Ray Bradbury said, first you jump off the cliff and you grow your wings on the way down.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So I would encourage you not to wait around doing analysis for the next six months or year.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Figure out your next step and take it within the next 24 hours.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I think you'll be really energized by some forward momentum.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Six months from now, you'll be amazed at your progress if you keep on taking that leap, knowing you'll figure it out as you go along.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: So go ahead and jump, but avoid the spandex if you can.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: You may have written a great book, but it's not ready for publication until it's been in the hands of a master editor.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: That's why my friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as The Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: A great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, the overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Karen many times, and she is absolutely your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book.
