- 0:16SPEAKER_01: All right, everybody.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Welcome back for another episode of BNR at the movies podcast.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: I'm Barry.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And I'm Robin.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: So this week it was your choice of film.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: So I'll let you go and take us away on this one.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna watch I Swear.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and it did come out in 2025 in Europe, but it only it made it to the United States in April of 2026.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So not too long ago.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Wow, I kept thinking it was it was all came out last year, but I guess it only hit the next one.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: No, it just never made it here until then.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: That's why that's why I saw it on my birthday.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: It was like brand new in the theater, and it didn't last long either because it's a small film.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: It's a small film.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but um I think I liked it from start to finish.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: It's it's tense, it's emotional.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Um it it's kind of funny.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: There's places you will laugh, you will giggle.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Well, um I know in the premise of what it's about, I kind of think.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: So it is it is a true story.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It's about John Davidson who has Tourette's.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And it starts when he was young, before he he got it, and kind of when it happened and how it happened, and how people and a lot of it is how people react to him.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Um and how they deal with him or don't deal with him or what he has to put up with.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And it was it's um I I think it's real really interesting.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I know um from him, I think I heard that he thought it was very accurate.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Um That's awesome.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: There was a there is a documentary about John Davidson when he was younger, in his maybe he was about 16.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Um, they did a documentary.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I I tried watching part of it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: The movie's better, sorry.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Normally we go the other way.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: It's the other, it's the other way around.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, normally the other way around.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: So the the the documentary is interesting, but it's it's really the movie, I think, is much better.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: It just kind of and it's it's it's true.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: This is stuff that really happened.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And even in the movie, they kind they even mimicked some of the scenes from the documentary.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: The really the one thing they didn't do in this film is acknowledge the documentary.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: They didn't they didn't even talk about that.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: There was a documentary.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I wonder if it's somewhere like in the credits or something, maybe at the at the end, then you'll see parts of the documentary.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: You'll see the real Oh okay.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So they so they acknowledge it as far as Yeah, at the end at the end, but not during telling the story.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Um, but it is really interesting how the people um react to him.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Um and um and and and some of it is it was kind of like oh my god, seriously.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So um, but yeah, it is it I just thought it was really good film.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I was so proud to be able to see it in the theater.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and I I really do think you'll enjoy it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Um it was it's a Scottish film.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Uh well, it was all filmed in Scotland.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Because he is he is from Scotland.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: He is from Scotland.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Um, so you know, there's accents going on, and maybe there's some references I don't always catch, but you know, yeah, that's just the name of the game.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But I think I think it's it's I I think it's excellent.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And the main character, his act the actor, it's Robert.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: I was practicing his last name.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Aramyo.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Aramayo.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Aramoyo.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Robert Arameyo.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And he was actually, and people probably would know this, he is he I guess I didn't know he was in um a little bit of one of the Lord of the Rings movies.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: I'm just I'm not deeply into all the actors, and there are bazillion actors in those movies.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: But he he did do that.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: But um but in this, oh my gosh, he's so good.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And he did run a BAFTA for the best actor.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Um, and I I think he was just excellent.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I just yeah, I just thought it was great.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And of course he's kind of holding the whole movie, except when he's young and it's a different actor playing him when he's young.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Um we've and we've talked about that with biopic films of like how far back do you go, like where do you start from?
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Do you start?
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: It's like, do you just reference past history or do you actually show it, you know, and stuff.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: So and the this was written and directed by the the the director wrote it also, is Kirk Jones.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, I don't know the name.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Who has done a few other films that I've seen.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: But um Have we watched any of his?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think so.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, but you know, uh I think he did a great job.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, because I just think it was really well put together.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I think it was something that John Davidson, the real person, um, was proud that it was out there.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And nice and the whole thing of doing this is so is really does show people and teach people about Tourette's a little bit.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: And his he has extreme Tourette's right, because there's there's very levels of it.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: He has extreme Tourette's.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because a lot of people, as soon as you say Tourette's, they immediately go to the most extreme cases that that they know of, which are which is what he has with the cursing and the you know and you know, complete body convulsions and stuff and stuff like that.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there's yeah, there's a lot of different levels leading up to that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And and it it kind of teaches you a little bit about that throughout this, too.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I like I see, and I like that where it's like you can tell if you can tell a good story, throw a little education in there, you know, get you know, you don't have to smack me over the face with it, but you know, just drop a little bit in there.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that this is one of those that it's just like you walk out going, Okay, there you go.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Everybody should see this movie and learn a little bit.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And you'll enjoy yourself too.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So right, exactly.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: That yeah, that's that's definitely key.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I remember when um I remember seeing a trailer.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: I don't remember if I if I don't remember if it was with you or just watching it on my own, but I knew about this film coming out.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Um, and immediately I was just saying, like, oh, that that definitely sounds interesting.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: And then, and of course, you know, knowing that it was a true story and stuff, then it's just like, yeah, then I'm totally I'm I'm a sucker for good true stories.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, obviously.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you yeah, you you know if anybody's paid attention to some most of my picks that I've done.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Um if they're true, it's like yeah, but and for me, it just gives it a a different flavor.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um, and sometimes I have seen true stories that are terrible.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: They didn't do a good job, right?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And that's the thing like yeah, it's so sad.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: And it sucks when it's the material is is good, it's like it have you have something to work with, but they just end it, yeah, it's put for the execution wasn't there, right?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: But this one I think the writing is good, the acting is good, it just feels real.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it it it is true.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: So when you're watching, this is true.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: This is what happens.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: All right, yeah, it's this has definitely been one that's you know, like I like I said, it's been on I've been aware of, so it's it's definitely nice that we're able to we're able to watch it together.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm kind of excited to hear what you say about it.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: So that'll be good.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it'll be very good.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: All right, should we go ahead and dive in and watch this one?
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Yes, all right.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Well, we are gonna go ahead and watch I Swear, and then we will come back a little bit and talk about it.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, we will be back in a little while.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: All right, everybody, welcome back.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: We just got done watching I Swear, and since this was my first time watching it, then I'll go ahead and take us away on this.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Um, I've gotta say it's probably the best movie I've seen in um four or five, six, seven-ish years.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Um it's really good.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: It was so good.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's hard to find a flaw.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I'm sure there's flaws in it.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: It is it's captivating, it's interesting, it's captivating, it's funny.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: It's it's so funny.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: It's emotional, it's oh it's it was there's a lot of feelings going on here.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was one of I'm not even joking, like one of the best films I've seen in forever.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I can't even I don't even want to quantify like how long it took.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: It's such a small film.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: A lot of people will miss it.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And that just makes me feel so sad.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know, I just want to get the word out.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: It's like, take a look.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just take a look.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: The performances by everybody on this were amazing.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely amazing.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: This felt so real.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's like so oh, so good.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Hats off to Robert, the main guy on this that played this.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he really deserves all the because he has won a few awards for this, you know.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Oh I mean, it's been nominated for a lot of different categories, but it's it's really just he has won the the awards.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, everybody in everybody in the cast was fantastic, but I mean he literally is carrying the film.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I mean he's yeah, he's got an oh the gauntlet of them of stuff that he has to go through for that for this for this character.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I mean I think physically it's kind of must have been tiring.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, it's like a workout, yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Um I I the I literally don't I can't think of a single flaw at all on it.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Um I love the way it was shot.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: I love the I love the I love the actors in it.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: I love the I love the script.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Uh the pacing.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: The pacing of it was fantastic.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: It was great.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: It had it had just the right amount of time prep for each one of the the the parts that it was it was bringing you to.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Didn't feel like it.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Didn't feel like it drug out along along.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: And you could tell like each one, like there's major events that are gonna happen that are that are propelling his life forward.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: That uh, you know, um, yeah.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Oh god, it was so good.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Oh I I I feel bad about giving a review and just saying that all you know, it's like it's like what do you think?
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really good.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: But you know, yeah, it is just one of those little gems that's just hanging out there.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: I love that it's on Netflix.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: I think uh, you know, at least we'll get some exposure that way too.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Because, you know, it came to the movie theaters, but hardly anybody when I went to the movie theater and it was the opening weekend, there were exactly three of us in the theater.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: This is yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: This is a film that needs to be seen by everybody.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: This is this you learn, but you understand.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, and I've it it's it crosses over with acceptance of everybody with exactly it's like it is And not just this, but just like people in general, yeah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: And it's you know, and it it's telling them, you know, you don't don't judge too quickly, don't just immediately think you know everything what's going on with somebody.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: And it's like and if you take the time in to to learn and listen, and then it's like everybody everybody succeeds, and it's like everybody advances.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, but it's just the struggle that he went through to get there.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, and to know like such heartbreak throughout his life.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Even his own mother could never really accept him.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just but but other people did, right?
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Other and I'm I'm sorry, my favorite character is Tommy.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Tommy's the best.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: He is the best.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, the actor that put so I'm gonna look, I'm I'm gonna be learning something.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Because well no, because I know him from other I've seen I've seen him in other stuff, and it's like I oh, and I've I've seen him play a bad guy, and I've seen him play.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: I can see I can see that he can do bad guy.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: It's I I want to make sure I get his name right, so I'm gonna I'm gonna pull it up real quick.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, all right.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: That'll be good.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I just I love that character.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: I thought he did so well with it.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: It was like and when it was the two of them, you know, just it was just like, oh my god.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: They're just feeding off of each other and just bouncing bouncing back and forth.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: And why am I having a hard time trying to find him?
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Hang on, I'm gonna find him.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Uh why is sometimes IMDb does weird things where it does the cast list where it's like it's yeah, it's like it's like okay, you have somebody who's in there prominently like throughout the film, and then it's like you have to like hunt for them.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: And it's like oh, there was another guy that I knew him from um Game of Thrones from Game of Thrones.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like, I was gonna say I saw the face, and then I was just like, I was like, I know that guy.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Well, that's cool.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for me when I is that who it was?
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and what was he in?
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: That's your story.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Um so um I I I can see him in the role, but I'm like having trouble trying to trying to place it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: I'm okay.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: I might be able to find it here pretty quickly.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: But at least you know the name.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, give him some credit.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was he's he's so he's so good, and it's he's one of those guys where it's like you want to be like his neighbor, his friend, you know, his like it's like you want to go hang out with him, you know.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: It's like uh Ozarks.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: I remember he was in I remember he was in Ozarks, uh Gunpowder, which uh is a was a miniseries that was on HBO.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Um maybe it's just that.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Uh but anyway, yeah, but yeah, he's he's so he's so good, he's got a great look to him.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I oh yeah, and then uh this I love the Scottish accent, I really do.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And it's one where it's like there's a couple times where it's like it takes takes us another split second, and then it's like okay, I'm there.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: But for the majority of it, it's not it's not hard to follow.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's yeah, because I think in the beginning I always have a tough time.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: When there's multiples talking um when they're around the when they're around the table.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: And it's like, oh, I missed that.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it's when it's a quick conversation around the tables and stuff, and it's like it's but it's it's the same for any language where it's like if it's not what you're used to hearing, then it's gonna take that extra second of like trying to pick it up.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: But if it's the when it's one-on-ones, then it's a lot easier and it's it then it's it's really quick.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Coming because it is English, it's just a it's just the dialect of English.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's just the accent, right?
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Or maybe some expressions too.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: I don't always get every expression.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Well, and I mean there's there's stuff I mean that's like you know, you know, from just from England, just from the UK to America, where it's you know, chips instead of fries, you know.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Well that I know.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: So it's it's but it's little things like that where it's like if you don't if you don't know it, and then it's like, well, he wasn't eating a bag of chips, he was eating French fries, and it's like so it takes us that extra second sometimes.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: But uh oh, but yeah, it's I'm so glad.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Oh almost almost a perfect movie.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Uh it definitely, definitely.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: It's up there on your list, isn't it?
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: It it might be the perfect film.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, this might be the perfect movie.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's you were going there.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Because you've never I well, it it's always hard for me to say, like, what are my favorites of of films?
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And it's like people, and of course, naturally during the podcast, people ask me all the time.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: They're like, Oh, well, what's your what's your favorite?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, break it down at least a little bit for me.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: It's like, you know, give me a genre, give me a decade, give me something.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: But this movie, but this this this is this is it's pretty perfect.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm putting it on my list to go buy it like today.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Oh no, so it's it's gonna be on my wall.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I know I can watch it on Netflix, but it's like it's like, no, I'm still gonna own it.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: I'm still gonna go get it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: I'm still gonna get it.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, um, but yeah, it's uh beautifully shot all around all around uh the UK.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, ah, and you know, just when it's like, oh, they're in Edinburgh, and it's like, oh, it'd be great to go to Edinburgh.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, seeing all these places I want to go to.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: It's like and uh and uh and it's it's just the areas, it's just the towns.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: It's like they're not it's not it's not fancy, it's not fancy, yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: They're not this is real, it's just the areas, and it's like and it it's part of the film, but it's not um it it's not like overpowering where it's like you feel like um it's you know, if you're not there, you don't get it.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: It's like no, this is just where it's taking place at.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, this could I mean because this could have happened anywhere, and it's like but this is just where it happened to be at.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it's I'm so glad I gotta watch this with you.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, this was a good this was this was good.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: This was a treat.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you this is one that you're not gonna nobody's gonna forget about once they see it.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: But the thing is, will people see it?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: You know, that's the thing, it's like you gotta get small, yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: You gotta get it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: They don't know what it's about.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I I've told many people about it, especially right right after I saw it.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I'm going, oh yeah, yeah.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Well, and I and like I've I've known people that not have had this level of Tourette's, but have had uh some version of it.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And it's it, I mean, it kind of opens up into their world of like what they of what they're going through.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: And not everybody is open and accepting and understanding.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: And not everybody understands, like when something happens and then they say, you know, oh, I'm sorry, I have Tourette's, you know, they don't, you know, they can't brush it off, you know, and it's like and they have issue.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: And it's like, but it's like, no, you need to be able to because it's like they were saying, like, you know, you're you know, the if a blind guy, you know, bumped into somebody, you're not gonna, you know, he's not gonna go to jail for assault, you know.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like, yeah, you gotta take it in the context of it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: And and really, I think, especially with John, a lot of people, you know, would understand that, yeah, he's saying all this stuff, yeah.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: But look at his face, look at his demeanor.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: And most of the time he's apologizing.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Especially out in public.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: But you know, he, you know, no matter what he says or does or makes a noise, whatever, you can tell that it's it's that's not really him.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: You know, and and I think I th I thought they showed that very well.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: And I and I like that they they had the other actors.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't know um how many of the other ones that had Tourette's in the film have have Tourette's in real life, or if they're just actors that, you know, were portraying people that have it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm hopeful that when they had like all the kids, yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: There probably were a lot of people because there was no reason for them, you know, they they could have it because you know they weren't really delivering any lines, right?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: They were just being themselves.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: They were just being themselves, yeah.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Which it's like at that point, it's like, yeah, so what are you gonna do?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, you're gonna have your your ticks, you're gonna have your outbursts, you're gonna do it, have all your stuff, which is what they want to show.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: So it's like, yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, it's it's really good.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: And I love that he he became um a teacher, and it's he's I like that it's not that he's um a lawyer.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: He's not, you know, he's not, you know, an advocate where he's like, you know, going, you know, to parliament stuff.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, he's he's showing everybody like look, this is what it is.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: This is this is who we are, this is what happens, right?
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: And especially like teaching the the police, yeah, the medical the medical field, right?
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, they don't that because that's that's where it needed to start from.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And then and then talking to the kids and not talking down to them, no, just letting them know, you know, that this is just something.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is just what happens, yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I th I I love that part.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And then of course, you know, that the fact that it's all true, and it's like it is, oh, just warms your heart.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: And it's like just knowing that he's out there and it's like in and he's just living a normal life, he's he's just doing he's just being himself, just going about his day, yeah, you know, just doing his normal stuff.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: He's not highly educated, you know, he couldn't finish school, but he he makes he makes he's making a difference, yeah, yeah and he's he's enriching people's lives and educating people and helping move people forward in understanding and that is absolutely amazing.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this was this this was that this is like the highlight of my year so far.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is like this has been this is this is this has been a lot of fun.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Now I feel so bad you didn't come to the movie theater with me, but at least we saw it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: But see now we gotta see it together.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: In the car going back home.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: And then we burst out.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: We wouldn't have any control.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: That's when we pull over, we have to stop and park before I drop you off because it would we would have to sit there and finish.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the conversation will still be going on.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Because yeah, it is is just one that, yeah, you won't forget.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: You could watch it multiple times.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Um it's one that you want to share with other people.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: You want to like buy a bunch of copies and give them to people.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: And honestly, and then that's kind of what my my thought is behind of like actually owning it.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, because granted this, yes, Netflix.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Anyone's got Netflix, I would absolutely tell them to go check it out.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: But then if they don't, then it's like, okay, if I can get a physical copy, then it's like, yeah, it's like, but then that comes to lending out my physical copies.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I have no, that's hard.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: I I I have before.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: There have been a select and sometimes it's worked out and sometimes it has not.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: And I've had that too.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: And I it kind of hurts my heart a little bit.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Especially when I can't really replace it too easily.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: But now I can.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: But back in the day it was hard.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: It was hard.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: It was well, and it's funny because I even have films that are like they're they're bad films.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Like they're not, they're not really good films.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: But they're still there they have some entertainment purpose.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And I had a fri I had a guy that I work with that he was asking if he could borrow one of them.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: And it's like, okay, well, I I know where you work and I I know I'm gonna be able to get it back.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: And it's like, but even then it was just like, you know, like a couple days later, it's like checking in, like, okay, so uh, you know, have you watched it?
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: You know, and uh and for that it's like it's not like it it's not gonna leave a void in my life if it's if it's not on my wall because it wasn't like but this is like this this is actually something that I would really cherish and really care about.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: So it's like that would be a lot harder to yeah, harder to loan out.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: It's like have them sign a waiver.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Let me buy you a copy.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: That would be that would be better.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like let's go to the store and I'll find you a copy of it.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: I'll get that for you, it'll be coming in the mail.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's gotta be like the true collectors, where you got you have one to keep, one to trade, and one that you never touch, you know, kind of thing.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: I I was assuming you would, but I you know, just you know, because I know you see like cinematography, a little bit more lighting, a little bit more than I do, music.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Sometimes, you know, that you hear more than I do, and so and it was funny because I uh so back so speaking of music, like it was starting off, and of course, it's it's time periods because it's 19 it you know 1983 is when it starts.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And I was just like, Oh, here we go.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: All right, we're gonna get a lot of the a lot of the the hits from these.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: And it they did a little bit, but they didn't really emphasize the time period of that of that part of it, and then it was more of a classical uh score that was under that was undertone for everything, which is great, which is which I really which I like, because then when when you did hear a song or in the background, there's something you're like, oh I know that one.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: That's like you know, kind of like popping in there.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, so I I thought that was done really well, and then it's like even when it was jumping, jumping the time periods, even like at the very towards the very end when he's puts when he's talking to the girl on the train and puts in the earphone and stuff, you could have easily had a song playing there, right?
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: And then like and be able to say, like, oh, this is whatever song, and then it marks that period of time, but it's like they decided not to.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: And it's like so that sounds like you like most of the choices that they made.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I and I like it when um when when musical choices make sense for the film and stuff, and it's like it doesn't feel forced or anything, and then it just kind of helps drive everything along, and it's not raindrops falling on my head while I'm trying to trying to watch Butch Cassie and the Sundance Kid.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Still have problems with that scene.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Now you can just skip it.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I always skip it, it's really not necessary.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: It's not necessary at all.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: It doesn't move the plot at all.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's let's move on.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: No, I skip it every time.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: It's like uh it doesn't exist anymore.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Um, but but for this film, it's like this was this was really, really well, really well done.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Um good.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: I'm glad and I like that it's you know it it's set in Scotland and you have Scottish actors that are doing it with like real accents and stuff and you know it's there was yeah, with me, there was no problem with anyone's accent, whether they were Scottish or other, you know, English, whatever.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: I think everybody did great.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: And it was just it seemed very natural.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: And it just it just has a has a smooth flow to it and it moves moves along.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Um there it there is a slight foreshadowing sometimes of like when trouble is gonna be coming.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: And you kind of get that that get that look, and you're just like, uh no one's gonna be in the pit of your stomach.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Well, and and they did a couple classic tricks of like when he gets the Chinese food and then gets beaten up, uh-huh.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Where it's you know, you have the when he's walking away, and he it's a it's kind of a steady shot, it's a single shot of him walking away, and he's kind of getting further into a distance, and then the very next shot it's handheld and it's right up on him and it and it's moving around, and I was just like, Oh, I I know it's coming, and then it's like and then he gets beaten up.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: And you just wonder how bad it's gonna be.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or maybe it won't be bad.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's like that's why I was thinking, I'm like, I don't know if it's like you know, broken bones or whatever the what was gonna be the case, but uh yeah, so they they use a couple of classic classic stuff like that.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Um, but other than other than that, there's not really a lot of foreshadowing for for any of the other like accidentals that happen in it when when he punches Dottie in the face and then like hits Tommy and the nuts.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: It's like stuff like that where it's just like it's just boom, it's just happened.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: But but I think but I like that because that is the way that it happens to him, right?
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: It's like it is that it is spontaneous, he's not planning it.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: It is that quick, yeah.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: It's just like whoa, yeah, exactly.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: And then also it's like, oh geez.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I I mean, I I see and I was thinking, I'm like, I wish that his mom had been there when he got the medal.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and but she really wasn't really wasn't, and that's and that's the thing I keep coming back to.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: It's like that's not that they're they're writing the story the of what happened, right?
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: And it's like they're not sugar coating.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: And then and then they have the scene with his mom because I felt for his mom, where it was just like she she did what she thought was best.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, then he goes and lives with another family, and it's you know, it it's kind of a slap in the face to her of like, okay, now I'm gonna go live with them instead of living with you.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: Um so I and I I felt like you know, she like been, you know, her heart been ripped out, you know, like when all that happens.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: But I like that they were able to show this, they were able to show like they still have a relationship together.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: It's it's not, you know, obviously it's you know, it's not as strong, but it's still there.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: And I and I like that they're gonna be able to do that.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: Well, and I think that that helps people to to know that you know, with when someone with Tourette's there's a level of acceptance, and sometimes even the clo people that are closest to him, known him the longest, can't have as much acceptance as other people might.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Because the the mother could accept him up to a certain point, and she just couldn't go any farther than that.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Well, and then with his father, that he was not even in the picture anymore.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: And it's like and I I was almost kind of waiting for like him to talk about that or have his father come back.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: But he w the only other time it was he was mentioned was just when they're painting the room.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's talking about going going down to um a club, and he said, Oh yeah, I went down there one time with my dad, right?
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: And we had a we had a we had a beer.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And that was it.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: That was the only time he was even mentioned, and it was like he didn't talk about him at all.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it's and it and I think that was kind of the point.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: He wasn't in his life, right?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And he he was a parent that could not accept him at all.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: His mother could accept him up to a point, but then like this other family, they could completely accept him.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: And that was just like that that just when when I first saw it, that just like oh my god, there are people out there.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: You know, no matter who what you do or who you are, yeah, there's people around you that you want them to accept everything about you.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: And sometimes they can and sometimes they can't, but there are some people that can accept you completely.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: So don't don't give up, just keep looking because you know, and it and it is sad when it's not family.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: And and sometimes it's not, and and you want it to be, but you know, don't don't hang on to it that that something is gonna like magically happen.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Because if it doesn't, then you know, just you know, go out there and find people that do accept you.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it and sometimes like like you're saying, like if if it's not working out with your family, then you create your family of whatever that dynamic is.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: Whether it's you know, if it's close friends, whether it's a personal relationship, whatever it is, that is your family.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: And I and I think that's one one thing too.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: If someone accepts you, yeah, then they're family.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Try not to lose them.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Right, absolutely, or at least appreciate them while they're with you, and make it and make sure that they know that they that they're appreciated.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: This is this is by this is a great film.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: 100% great film.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I like that a lot.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: I'm actually thinking about jumping this ahead of my list of ones I've got that are episodes ready to come out that I that we've recorded that I haven't put out yet.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Uh-uh.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about jumping this one forward just to get it out quicker.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Wow, that means some more people can actually get to it.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's how much I uh that's how much I enjoyed this film.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it I think it's really worth it.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: And I think people really shouldn't miss it if you if you if they have a chance.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna be a waste of time.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: Right at all.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: At all.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: 100% you're gonna enjoy it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: You're gonna walk out, yeah.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have a lot of feelings, and you're gonna walk out and you're gonna just be thinking about a whole lot of stuff.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: And it's a good it's a great film that it's like it can put you through this, and you know, it makes you think, um, and it it gives you it it gives you that kind of little shiny little hope of of life.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Hope for all of us.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: No matter who we are, what freaky thing we we are, do, whatever.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Um, it does give you that that yeah, there's there's hope.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Well, should we go ahead and wrap this up?
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: I guess so.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you everybody for listening.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Make sure you guys go check out I Swear.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: And until next time, I'm Barry.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm Robin.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: And we will talk to you guys later.
