- 0:12Speaker 1: origional pockets Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered special show for you today,
- 0:23Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen. As our two dads are away, kid
- 0:27Speaker 1: do some of the kids all right? I like, I
- 0:29Speaker 1: wasn't born for for eighty five obviously, but the Packers
- 0:33Speaker 1: Super Bowl parcels is is much to blame. I mean,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Reggie White, like, can we we don't put a tight
- 0:39Speaker 1: end over there chip them. This is all retroactive every because, however,
- 0:41Speaker 1: you in ninety six so mad about like you're kicking off.
- 0:46Speaker 1: People are around me and I'm just like telling them that,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you know, they're idiots or whatever. I was born like this.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'm sorry for Patty hold On. I'm sure he's dying
- 0:53Speaker 1: to talk to the B squad. Charlie Gambino is like
- 0:57Speaker 1: a renaissance man. This is America? Was that his last one? Yeah?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah see, I'm hipp oh chips the dessert though, chip
- 1:05Speaker 1: snack sandwich. It's empty bullshitt her first wear crap. This
- 1:14Speaker 1: is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan All right, Welcome to
- 1:20Speaker 1: Patriots unfiltered. Wow, I go away and you guys are
- 1:24Speaker 1: just wearing it up and say the more frunken sailors.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I know that's the moral. Yeah, I can't trust Alice.
- 1:29Speaker 1: The adults leave the room and what happens. I know,
- 1:32Speaker 1: But you guys held a ship that fourth down. I
- 1:34Speaker 1: guess tried Uncle Mike. That wasn't it was the dad's
- 1:37Speaker 1: are gone. But I didn't feel like the kid. I'm like,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm not, I'm not young. You're not. I'm like, you
- 1:41Speaker 1: know you're not. Well, it's Deuce, it's to marry, it's Evan,
- 1:44Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's me to marry. Is right? I believe
- 1:46Speaker 1: I heard you say that chips are a snack dessert.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Absolutely definitely. Circle gets a square Chris, the webmasters in
- 1:53Speaker 1: the booth. Because Matt Morrell is in a well deserved vacation.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I hope he didn't go to Afghanistan. It doesn't sound
- 1:57Speaker 1: like he's enjoying it though. I just saw him tweet
- 1:59Speaker 1: something that said he didn't go back to the minutes
- 2:02Speaker 1: to work. Think some things out. It's three hours ago.
- 2:04Speaker 1: He says. I hate that I'm on vacation with you
- 2:07Speaker 1: who he was a marine. I hope he didn't go
- 2:11Speaker 1: back to I don't know. I think he's okay though
- 2:13Speaker 1: he's near a pool. Now we're tracking him. He's he's
- 2:15Speaker 1: reading a Daredevil comic by the pool. He's a Dubaie. Good. Yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 1: turn turn your microphone on, Evan, Chris make Audrey, says Fred, Fred,
- 2:28Speaker 1: Please teach Duce how to read emails. Thursday's show was
- 2:32Speaker 1: a meltdown for some reason. Mike can't host and read
- 2:35Speaker 1: at the same time. When he does read, it's very
- 2:38Speaker 1: fast and breathy, sometimes with a nervous laugh. He's skimming
- 2:41Speaker 1: the content like a speed reader and not even saying
- 2:44Speaker 1: all the printed words. Then he immediately answers and gives
- 2:47Speaker 1: his opinions first, rather than letting the group chime in.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He could catch his breath and then at his thoughts.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It's like a hyper puppy who can't calm down around
- 2:56Speaker 1: stranger's type of feeling. Who's this? This is? Are for
- 2:59Speaker 1: new Hamshire? Go back. I can listen and you'll know
- 3:00Speaker 1: immediately what I mean. Other than this issue, Mike has
- 3:03Speaker 1: been a great addition. I think Audio's totally right, but
- 3:07Speaker 1: she's now my enemies. Listening. I'm looking forward to another
- 3:10Speaker 1: round of epic draft shows. Love the show, loyal twelve
- 3:13Speaker 1: year listener. That's good. She's right. I appreciate the constructive criticism,
- 3:17Speaker 1: so I will I will take that in mind. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: certainly do well because sometimes you start to read, you're like,
- 3:23Speaker 1: it's a dead moment, and you're like, I better read
- 3:24Speaker 1: an email. And you start to read an email, you're like,
- 3:26Speaker 1: there's nothing in this email, and then you have to
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, tack and well. As much as I like
- 3:31Speaker 1: to make fun of Fred when he's not paying attention
- 3:33Speaker 1: to what we're saying, he's generally reading the email setting
- 3:37Speaker 1: up the next one. Yeah, he's facilitating like a ball,
- 3:41Speaker 1: like a ball distributor. You know, I got but a
- 3:44Speaker 1: little inside baseball. We've been busy this week filming something
- 3:47Speaker 1: really special for the Patriots schedule release in May. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: don't know what we can say and not say, but
- 3:53Speaker 1: let's just say, let's not say too much. I think
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's what you can say. Let's just say. Deuce and
- 3:59Speaker 1: his director chair with sunglasses has been the highlights. I
- 4:02Speaker 1: wasn't even the director. I just sat there and looked
- 4:03Speaker 1: like the director doing nothing. Just no, but he oh, no,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I I pulled I pulled up yesterday, and you were
- 4:08Speaker 1: you were in charge of the whole the whole thing.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Definitely not. But it was so funny because Duce we're outside.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Deuce has got the hoodie on and the baseball cap, glasses,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and he's looking at the monitor at the at the
- 4:19Speaker 1: scene in his little director and he looked like, you know,
- 4:23Speaker 1: you know Martin Scorsese on sets. Yeah, that's right, Yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I need more. It was great, it's been good. It's
- 4:29Speaker 1: been good. Excited to see what comes out of it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You'll see it in a couple of months. Yeah, certain,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Wait a couple of months, about a month, About a month? Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I like you better hurry. I don't know what time.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. Yeah, No, it's uh,
- 4:42Speaker 1: it's probably our most ambitious effort yet. Yeah, a lot
- 4:46Speaker 1: of moving pieces, a lot of patriots, former patriots, current
- 4:51Speaker 1: future patriots. Come on, man, you're you're like the people
- 4:55Speaker 1: who like look at the spoilers online. Yeah, what do
- 4:57Speaker 1: you tell me? What's going on in session? That's what's
- 5:01Speaker 1: going to happen to them. He already caught that spoiler.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He's the kid that you don't tell about the surprise
- 5:05Speaker 1: party because he's just gonna ruin the surprise. Probably probably
- 5:09Speaker 1: they don't want me anywhere near this shoot. I don't
- 5:11Speaker 1: even know where it is. I don't know the address.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm just they told me, Oh, we don't need you.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Just just go be on radio next week. You're fine, person.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You stick to the draft. Yeah, stick to the draft.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I know your strains, all right, So what do we
- 5:25Speaker 1: got going here? Everybody? I feel like we're in like
- 5:28Speaker 1: the draft. It's like slowdown period where everything just kind
- 5:31Speaker 1: of like slows down a little bit. It's quiet. There
- 5:33Speaker 1: aren't really a lot of personnel moves. OBJ. We could
- 5:34Speaker 1: talk about that one, but it just feels like silly season.
- 5:38Speaker 1: This is where rumors just go and that's all you're
- 5:40Speaker 1: kind of hearing. There's not a lot of like nobody's
- 5:41Speaker 1: really adding to the team right now. Yeah, we're at
- 5:44Speaker 1: that point where it's like, you know, twenty seven teams
- 5:46Speaker 1: they're interested in trading up with Arizona to get, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 1: to their spot. You know, that kind of silly season stuff.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm sure some of it is based in reality, but
- 5:55Speaker 1: I think it's really gonna come down to four for
- 5:58Speaker 1: those teams, like three, four, you know, five, who feels
- 6:04Speaker 1: strongly enough about one of the quarterbacks to take them
- 6:07Speaker 1: one of the other quarterbacks because it certainly looks like
- 6:11Speaker 1: Bryce Young is going to go one to Carolina. That's
- 6:14Speaker 1: I know. Peter King kind of indicated that, Albert Brier
- 6:17Speaker 1: kind of indicated that seems to be some traction for
- 6:20Speaker 1: Young going to Carolina where Stroud comes. But then does
- 6:24Speaker 1: Indie Indians at four? I think, yeah, do they feel
- 6:28Speaker 1: strongly about will levis right? Or stronger class than last
- 6:33Speaker 1: year in terms of quarterbacks? Yeah, about the year before. No,
- 6:37Speaker 1: about equal, I would say, but next year, but there's
- 6:40Speaker 1: no Trevor Lawrence in this next year is the oh no, no,
- 6:45Speaker 1: not like not a profile of that kind of guy,
- 6:49Speaker 1: because these like I mean, obviously Bryce Young is so small, yep,
- 6:53Speaker 1: so it's it's it's a lot different. But I don't
- 6:55Speaker 1: think this is as good as that class, even even
- 6:58Speaker 1: though that class has kind of been man well, yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: Lawrence took a while, but he's cut up going. But
- 7:04Speaker 1: based on coming out, like, yeah, yeah, I think what
- 7:08Speaker 1: we thought of those five guys as as opposed I think,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and I guess I'm what I'm getting to is I
- 7:15Speaker 1: think these guys are getting a little inflated. They always do. Yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you know, well, well sometimes it's you know, it's deserveful.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I mean, Zach Wilson got into the top three of
- 7:26Speaker 1: the draft all because of what happened after the season,
- 7:30Speaker 1: you know, like, all because he looked good throwing the football.
- 7:32Speaker 1: In short, So I think that this happens a lot.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But I think this class, more than maybe any other
- 7:38Speaker 1: class in recent memory, has had some guys that performed
- 7:42Speaker 1: well actually on tape, not just in the combine and
- 7:46Speaker 1: at Pro days and things like that. They have really
- 7:48Speaker 1: good film, all four of us of Levis, Richardson, Stroud,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and Young. Who has the biggest upside Richardson not Yeah, easily?
- 7:59Speaker 1: Why because he's most athletic. He's Cam Newton. Yeah, he's
- 8:02Speaker 1: in a good way though, Yeah, prime Cam. But Cam
- 8:07Speaker 1: Newton was better in college than Richardson, is right, But
- 8:11Speaker 1: Evan's right in terms of upside, that's potential. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 1: highest ceiling. I agree with Evan. Is it fair though
- 8:19Speaker 1: to compare him to Cam Newton? Well, you're asking me.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I gave you a ceiling comparison. If it works, it's
- 8:25Speaker 1: Cam Newton. Cam Newton's floor was probably a lot higher
- 8:28Speaker 1: than Anthony Richardson. Yeah, yeah, right, correct, I guess that's
- 8:33Speaker 1: how I look at it. Yeah, Levis has a good arm,
- 8:37Speaker 1: but not accurate, you know, not as mobile as Richardson. Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 1: His his twenty twenty two film is awful. Yeah, I'm
- 8:45Speaker 1: just gonna have some decisions problems with decisions that ye
- 8:48Speaker 1: times for Levis and then you know young like I
- 8:52Speaker 1: want to like him, but he's so small, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: he's small. He's not Kyler Murray small though he's he's
- 8:58Speaker 1: six feet tall, he is. Is he as fast as Murray? No,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but he's a better pure passer in the pocket than
- 9:05Speaker 1: Murray is. He's better, like feel for just innate quarterbacking. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: then Kyler did. Kyler was an athlete. Is there a
- 9:11Speaker 1: chance CJ. Stroud is the first quarterback picked? Sure? I
- 9:15Speaker 1: was listening to that. I feel like this morning when
- 9:17Speaker 1: I was working out, not trying to plug that in
- 9:19Speaker 1: there they were they were saying, they were saying that
- 9:23Speaker 1: it could be like, you know, a coin flip of
- 9:24Speaker 1: who was. Yeah, it's going to be a tough like
- 9:27Speaker 1: and everyone's mock drafts. They've been flipping back and forth,
- 9:29Speaker 1: back and forth, back and forth. So should be interesting,
- 9:31Speaker 1: but I think just adds so much interest to the
- 9:34Speaker 1: draft now with how important quarterbacks have always been important,
- 9:37Speaker 1: but it just feels like there's so much put on
- 9:39Speaker 1: getting that guy now, and with four guys like this
- 9:43Speaker 1: that I mean, I don't know if you want to
- 9:44Speaker 1: count Levis in that group, but it just it feels
- 9:46Speaker 1: like there's gonna be a lot of jockey and going on, Like,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know, right now, I'm sure that you know what
- 9:50Speaker 1: are team's gonna do, Like if a team was just
- 9:52Speaker 1: as absolutely in love with CJ. Strout, you know what
- 9:55Speaker 1: are they willing to give up to get him? I
- 9:57Speaker 1: I just think the value of quarterbacks now and how
- 10:00Speaker 1: explicit it is within the league, it just seems to
- 10:03Speaker 1: add this whole level of drama. It didn't exist last
- 10:05Speaker 1: year where it wasn't this quarterback class. You know, it's
- 10:08Speaker 1: now it's what's gonna happen, Who's gonna trade up, who's
- 10:10Speaker 1: gonna you know? I think we know probably won, but
- 10:12Speaker 1: after that it could get interesting. I think it's also
- 10:16Speaker 1: once you get past Strout and young Levis and Richardson
- 10:19Speaker 1: are high variance prospects. So if you're a team like
- 10:23Speaker 1: the Cold Set four. Are you taking that risk that
- 10:27Speaker 1: the floor is on the ground for those two guys
- 10:29Speaker 1: versus Strout and Young who are as high a floor
- 10:33Speaker 1: prospects as maybe you're gonna have over the next couple
- 10:37Speaker 1: of years. I would say, I mean, Caleb Williams, I
- 10:40Speaker 1: think is gonna be a Trevor Lawrence type of prospect
- 10:43Speaker 1: next year. And May the kid from UNC is pretty
- 10:46Speaker 1: good too. But I think that those two guys in
- 10:49Speaker 1: terms of floor are as high a floor prospects as
- 10:52Speaker 1: we've seen in the last couple of years. And if
- 10:54Speaker 1: you're Indie at four, or if you're the Raiders, or
- 10:57Speaker 1: if you're Seattle and you're trying to head your bets
- 10:59Speaker 1: behind your veterans or maybe look for longer term answers,
- 11:03Speaker 1: are you okay with a potential huge bus factor with
- 11:07Speaker 1: Bot that could be bad for the Patriots if if
- 11:10Speaker 1: that ends up happening, because then those two guys start
- 11:14Speaker 1: to fall. Well, that's what my next question was, Any
- 11:17Speaker 1: chance that all four go before the Patriots pick, which
- 11:20Speaker 1: then would be good for them. I think there's a
- 11:22Speaker 1: chance of that. But that's why like the Indie Seattle
- 11:28Speaker 1: four or five thing, that Evan just mentioned, like indies
- 11:32Speaker 1: waited and waited and waited. Right now, you're gonna you're
- 11:35Speaker 1: gonna end up picking will Levis. That's the guy you
- 11:37Speaker 1: were waiting for. Yeah, I don't think they're gonna take
- 11:40Speaker 1: a quarterback. I know a lot of people don't even
- 11:42Speaker 1: you know, I don't even convince that Houston's going to
- 11:44Speaker 1: do it. And Houston is right there, you know, can
- 11:47Speaker 1: take Stroud or Young, whoever's available. That's what's different about
- 11:50Speaker 1: this class too than two years ago, is that you
- 11:52Speaker 1: don't really have the handful of elite receivers to maybe
- 11:55Speaker 1: TAC two. If you can't get the quarterback, you can
- 11:58Speaker 1: get Jamison Williams, you know, you can get Wilson like that.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You don't really have those guys. And if you if
- 12:02Speaker 1: you don't get a quarterback, you're not gonna be able
- 12:05Speaker 1: to get that exciting kind of piece like you might
- 12:07Speaker 1: have to All right, well we got to go to
- 12:08Speaker 1: a tackle now where I mean, you know there are
- 12:10Speaker 1: defensive ends up there too that you might bring a
- 12:12Speaker 1: little juice. But I just I think I look increasingly
- 12:14Speaker 1: more about the draft somewhat through the prism of needing
- 12:18Speaker 1: to generate excitement and to you know, to get your
- 12:20Speaker 1: fans on board and to put butts in training camp
- 12:22Speaker 1: seats and those kind of things. It's just it's it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: an interesting mix this year where you don't really have
- 12:26Speaker 1: those wide receivers to kind of complement this quarterback group. Yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: the strength of this draft classes, as your analogy is
- 12:33Speaker 1: putting the wheels on the tires. Right edge rusher's tackles,
- 12:37Speaker 1: tight ends, corners like these are not necessarily the positions
- 12:41Speaker 1: that put training camp butts in the seats as as
- 12:45Speaker 1: you're putting it. But there are positions that you look
- 12:47Speaker 1: back on and you're like, oh, we have a really
- 12:50Speaker 1: solid left tackle that now we're talking about second contracts
- 12:53Speaker 1: or Paris Johnson and it's this is going to be
- 12:56Speaker 1: a Matt White situation where he's here for ten years.
- 12:59Speaker 1: You know, those guys are important too. It's funny you
- 13:02Speaker 1: say that, though I haven't because, like I mean, we
- 13:04Speaker 1: had Cold Strange last year that was a loaded pick
- 13:06Speaker 1: just because of where he was selected. And but I
- 13:08Speaker 1: think even if they had taken any guard at that point,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, it would have been a similar just kind
- 13:12Speaker 1: of lack of energy around the pick. But people are saying, now,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I understand that left tackle is a need, and I'm
- 13:18Speaker 1: okay if they take Scronsky Paris Johnson. But I also
- 13:20Speaker 1: wonder that there's still gonna be a significant contingent of
- 13:23Speaker 1: Patriots fans that are like, oh, an offensive lineman, you
- 13:26Speaker 1: know where where it's a pick, there's no there's no
- 13:30Speaker 1: question about that, but to make it, to make it
- 13:33Speaker 1: even duller, I was reading today that a lot of
- 13:35Speaker 1: teams are thinking about moving Scronsky into guard. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I mean he he could be a guard. If you
- 13:42Speaker 1: listen to the the podcast on offensive Lineman, you heard
- 13:47Speaker 1: might do so, I've heard he might be a guard,
- 13:50Speaker 1: debate the position flexibility of certain prospects. I'm hearing a
- 13:57Speaker 1: lot of good things about this running back from Texas. Okay,
- 14:01Speaker 1: it sounds like Fred got the Beasts yesterday. You have
- 14:06Speaker 1: you have to listen to Thursday's show where if we
- 14:10Speaker 1: pick him at swearing and talking about snacks, you're running.
- 14:13Speaker 1: You will be upset if we pick him at fourteen. Yeah,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I don't want that at fourteen. Okay. I've gone back
- 14:18Speaker 1: and forth on it. Where is he supposed to go? Fourteen? Fourteen?
- 14:23Speaker 1: He could go, He could be you know, one of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the running back be Jean Robinson. You're talking, Yeah, he
- 14:29Speaker 1: could go in the in the first round. Absolutely if
- 14:31Speaker 1: he if this was twenty five years ago, then be
- 14:34Speaker 1: Jean Robinson be the number one over I'll pick in
- 14:36Speaker 1: the draft. Really yes, or you'd have a team to
- 14:39Speaker 1: get him. He's that good. He has the potential to
- 14:43Speaker 1: be that good. Now the draft is uncertain, So I'm
- 14:47Speaker 1: not going to sit here and say he's he's a
- 14:48Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, like I don't know, like he might be.
- 14:51Speaker 1: He might be you know, Leonard Fournette, Like I don't know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: but he's got the potential to be that good. Now
- 14:58Speaker 1: there's better than Barkley coming out. I think they're comparable.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Really yeah, if I had to like use a pro
- 15:03Speaker 1: comparison for Bijean, it would probably be no injury. But
- 15:08Speaker 1: what does it look like here if they took us,
- 15:10Speaker 1: what does that look like? Putting him with how they
- 15:13Speaker 1: traditionally use running backs? You know, like it's just it's hard,
- 15:17Speaker 1: Like what do you do with Romandre Stevens, Like what
- 15:19Speaker 1: do you do Pierre Strong? What do you do with
- 15:21Speaker 1: Kevin Harris? All those guys just out now, Like it's
- 15:23Speaker 1: just that's what I like. I mean, Kenny, you know, Mike,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I mean, like, if if this guy's as good as
- 15:30Speaker 1: Evan says he is, I'm not worried about Kevin Harris
- 15:33Speaker 1: or Pierre Strong. What are you worried Romandre? A little bit?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Are you worried that they're not going to play him
- 15:38Speaker 1: enough to really work together to that ceiling? You know?
- 15:41Speaker 1: That's that's so they can't work together, which I think
- 15:45Speaker 1: is the biggest reason why I'm against it, because they're
- 15:47Speaker 1: the same They're the same player, they're they're you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: it's it's the biggest issue that I have with it
- 15:54Speaker 1: is Romandre went for what seventeen hundred scrimmage yards last year?
- 15:58Speaker 1: How much better can you really be? Like he went
- 16:01Speaker 1: for seventeen hundred scrimmage yards in an offense that we
- 16:04Speaker 1: all agree was completely broken. Well, okay, but here you go.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So he yes, he did seventeen hundred scrimmage yards. But
- 16:12Speaker 1: it's not the question of how much can the running
- 16:14Speaker 1: back be, it's how much better can the offense be? Right?
- 16:17Speaker 1: You know, I just don't know. I don't know how
- 16:20Speaker 1: based off of everything that we know about running backs,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I don't know how much better be Jean Robinson really
- 16:24Speaker 1: makes you He's an unbelievably talented player. And this is
- 16:28Speaker 1: where you know, my my draft nerd me and then
- 16:31Speaker 1: like my, you know, the other side of me get
- 16:33Speaker 1: into into conflict because I can he's probably the best
- 16:38Speaker 1: player in the draft, but he's also a running back,
- 16:41Speaker 1: and you have to factor in that you pretty much
- 16:43Speaker 1: are set there. If the season were to start tomorrow,
- 16:45Speaker 1: you'd be have a really good running back room. And
- 16:48Speaker 1: then you also have to look at just the positional
- 16:51Speaker 1: value overall of a running back, so you're more you're
- 16:54Speaker 1: a need over best guy available person. I think that
- 16:58Speaker 1: teams lie to you. That's that they take the best
- 17:00Speaker 1: player available. I think what they do is they try
- 17:03Speaker 1: to find the sweet spot of the best player available
- 17:06Speaker 1: being a position of need, like the Patriots last year
- 17:09Speaker 1: when they traded down and took a guard. So Bijean
- 17:12Speaker 1: Robinson is you cannot make the argument that he's a need.
- 17:16Speaker 1: He's there's there's no side of it that makes him
- 17:19Speaker 1: a need for the Patriots. But he's probably going to
- 17:22Speaker 1: be the most talented player on the board if they
- 17:24Speaker 1: pick at fourteen. So I mean you could argue that's
- 17:27Speaker 1: one of the least needy positions. I cannot argue that
- 17:33Speaker 1: I would agree with that. Yeah, if you tried to argue,
- 17:35Speaker 1: I would say, I'm not arguing that would be truly a.
- 17:40Speaker 1: You know, we think he's just so much better. If
- 17:42Speaker 1: he's just that much better, you can't pass on him.
- 17:44Speaker 1: We got again now. I just think that the NFL
- 17:46Speaker 1: was trending towards running a triple option. Then yes, drapped him.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But no, wow, no love, I mean, she got it,
- 17:57Speaker 1: she nailed it. Yeah, I mean that's usually how I
- 18:00Speaker 1: the nerd in me usually feels that way. I think
- 18:03Speaker 1: running backs are very, very replaceable. I think here they've
- 18:05Speaker 1: shown that the running backs are very replaceable. It's really
- 18:08Speaker 1: helped their offense. I just I think if you have
- 18:12Speaker 1: a guy, it's done very well for them over the years. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I'm talking about recently. If you're who was the best
- 18:18Speaker 1: player last year? The running back, every offense running back
- 18:22Speaker 1: you're drafted before that, every offense has a best player.
- 18:25Speaker 1: That doesn't mean the offense, but but my point is
- 18:27Speaker 1: the philosophy of treating running backs like old socks and
- 18:31Speaker 1: just going on to the next one. YEA worked for
- 18:34Speaker 1: them even last year with no offense. They had Damian
- 18:38Speaker 1: Harris as a third round pick four years ago. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 1: they took another one in the third round two years later,
- 18:44Speaker 1: who was just as good, if not better. Well, you
- 18:47Speaker 1: replace the position, but that offense got worse, but not
- 18:51Speaker 1: because of that. I'm not saying it that was big,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but I'm saying if you haven't. I think if you
- 18:58Speaker 1: have a generational talent at any position on offense, it's
- 19:01Speaker 1: gonna make your offense better. Yeah. I'm with Evan, like,
- 19:04Speaker 1: has the Giant's offense gotten better? Well, he's so in
- 19:07Speaker 1: and out. I mean, was Carolina's offense better with McCaffrey, Like, yes, No,
- 19:12Speaker 1: it wasn't. They couldn't move the ball. Yeah, Now, it
- 19:15Speaker 1: wasn't Christian McCaffrey's fault that they couldn't move the ball.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He's an excellent player. Yeah, that's exactly. You put him
- 19:21Speaker 1: on San Francisco and boy and their offense was exactly
- 19:24Speaker 1: the same. He started producing immediately because he's a really
- 19:28Speaker 1: good player. Friend, just like George Kittles and Deepo samuel Is,
- 19:32Speaker 1: those guys continue to produce like they always do. When
- 19:35Speaker 1: I think what you've seen and it is that if
- 19:39Speaker 1: you make the running back like in San Francisco is
- 19:42Speaker 1: a perfect example. When the running back is the cherry
- 19:44Speaker 1: on top, that's a different conversation than our entire offense
- 19:48Speaker 1: is now going to run through this player, and just
- 19:52Speaker 1: the efficiency of it just doesn't line up with the data.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Like the data to suggests that teams that are built
- 19:58Speaker 1: that way are not only just worse than teams that
- 20:02Speaker 1: are built to pass the football, but also just have
- 20:05Speaker 1: a particular ceiling offensively. And I think a great example
- 20:09Speaker 1: would be like the Tennessee Titans, Like that would be
- 20:11Speaker 1: what prime Derrick Henry Tennessee is what you're hoping that
- 20:15Speaker 1: you would be if your whole thing is built through
- 20:17Speaker 1: And are you saying that by taking any running back
- 20:21Speaker 1: at fourteen in the first round, you have to build
- 20:25Speaker 1: your offense around him? Now now you're obligated because also
- 20:28Speaker 1: they're going to build it around I'm just saying, like,
- 20:30Speaker 1: can can you know I don't want to call it wasting,
- 20:33Speaker 1: but let's use that word wasting a first round pick
- 20:36Speaker 1: on a running back? Can you still be a passing
- 20:39Speaker 1: offense to who? Like, if you're gonna be a passing offense,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you're gonna you have to get a pass catcher. You know,
- 20:46Speaker 1: let's just say that, you know, you believe the pundits
- 20:48Speaker 1: and these wide receivers in this class aren't first round worthy.
- 20:52Speaker 1: So you pick a wide receiver in the second round,
- 20:55Speaker 1: you know, and you and you still say, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 1: with Mike Kasicki and everybody else that we're gonna pass first.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But we've got this guy that the other team has
- 21:05Speaker 1: to honor and it's going to help our offense. I
- 21:07Speaker 1: think we've got Romond. But now if you say, if
- 21:10Speaker 1: you were the Bills at fourteen, be Jean Robinson on
- 21:13Speaker 1: their offense with what they already have with wide receivers,
- 21:16Speaker 1: that makes sense. And so for them, you're saying you'd
- 21:18Speaker 1: be okay to take him in the first round. They're
- 21:21Speaker 1: also picking eight. Yeah. Yeah, So I mean that's a
- 21:27Speaker 1: little different. That's like Sony Michelle Yah yeah. I mean
- 21:30Speaker 1: at the end of the first round. That's such a
- 21:33Speaker 1: great points. I was just gonna say that the biggest
- 21:36Speaker 1: thing that turns me away from this whole conversation is
- 21:38Speaker 1: the fact that this reported that the Patriots are intrigued
- 21:41Speaker 1: by him, which just seems like why would that get out?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Like everybody, Yeah, I'm not every team. Every team wants
- 21:49Speaker 1: everything out there, they want all everything out there. We're
- 21:52Speaker 1: interested in everybody, you know, Yeah, every team is intrigued
- 21:56Speaker 1: by him. He's the best player in the draft. Like
- 21:58Speaker 1: if you're if you're watching any of these guys, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: you're not, and you don't watch Bijean Robinson, you're like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: holy crap. He forced one hundred and four miss tackles
- 22:06Speaker 1: last year at Texas. One hundred and four, Like that's insane.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm interested to see how that trans can catch the ball.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm interested to see how that translates over
- 22:15Speaker 1: just because Big twelve defense is trash, Like you don't
- 22:19Speaker 1: play defense, you play offense. If you look at those
- 22:21Speaker 1: scores in all the Big twelve games and fairness, defense
- 22:24Speaker 1: is trash horrible like Baylor, West Virginia, Texas. Those scores
- 22:28Speaker 1: are like sixty and the fifties, Like that's not normal.
- 22:32Speaker 1: The one hesitation that I did have it was against Alabama,
- 22:36Speaker 1: which is the best team that he played last year.
- 22:38Speaker 1: They were he was twenty one for seventy or something
- 22:41Speaker 1: like that. So that that's in Alabama wasn't even great
- 22:44Speaker 1: defensive my last year, right, not Alabama greet their offensive line. Texas'
- 22:50Speaker 1: offensive line got dominated at the point of attack, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: even a running back as good as Bijean Robinson can't
- 22:55Speaker 1: run through three people at the line of scrimmage. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: he didn't have the best game. Now, he did catch,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you know, three passes for like seventy yards on top
- 23:03Speaker 1: of the seventy one yards that he rushed for. But
- 23:05Speaker 1: one of those things with UM with Robinson, and I understand, like,
- 23:09Speaker 1: I think he's a really good player. I'm not telling
- 23:11Speaker 1: you say Quon Barkley stunk coming out or Christian mckett.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Those guys are really really good players, and they're good
- 23:16Speaker 1: NFL players when they're healthy. Um, I hate the notion of,
- 23:22Speaker 1: you know, why not just you know, pass on Bijon
- 23:25Speaker 1: Robinson a way to round or two. And but in
- 23:28Speaker 1: that case we're a running back, I would pass on
- 23:30Speaker 1: Bijean Robinson. And you know, if I really needed a
- 23:33Speaker 1: running back, take Jamir Gibbs somewhere later in the dress,
- 23:37Speaker 1: you know or whatever. I don't think the running back
- 23:40Speaker 1: is a need. I'm with Evan. I think it's probably
- 23:43Speaker 1: if it's not the least need, you know, the smallest
- 23:46Speaker 1: need on the on the roster, it's it's in a
- 23:50Speaker 1: oh yeah, next one up. No, I agree. I'm just
- 23:52Speaker 1: I'm playing devil's advocate here, trying to, you know, if
- 23:55Speaker 1: there's any opening there for taking him. If we have
- 23:59Speaker 1: Stevenson that you feel good about, you know, and Robinson
- 24:05Speaker 1: yeah strong, Kevin Harris, and then I don't know where
- 24:09Speaker 1: to sort of slot in Tie Montgomery. There's a lot
- 24:14Speaker 1: of teams that would say that's a that's a pretty
- 24:16Speaker 1: good wide receiver running back room, Like, why do I
- 24:19Speaker 1: need to draft one one day one or even even
- 24:22Speaker 1: early day two. Yeah, that's why I think Gibbs was.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I mean, somebody that Evan and I, you know, talked
- 24:27Speaker 1: about just coming from Alabama, a little bit more of
- 24:29Speaker 1: that threat in the passing game. That's the only thing
- 24:31Speaker 1: in the late round guys. Maybe a developmental pass catcher. Yeah,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm all for like a Deuce Vaughn in like the
- 24:38Speaker 1: fourth or fifth round. N Yeah, you know, I And
- 24:41Speaker 1: in all fairness, I think you know, when you look
- 24:43Speaker 1: at the needs, I mean, i'd have to take a
- 24:46Speaker 1: tackle over running back in the first round, you know.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Just Mike agrees to disagree. Okay, Now, Evan and I
- 24:54Speaker 1: believe that tackle, you know, and you know what it is.
- 24:56Speaker 1: You know what it is. I have to It's it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: just it's kind of like to take when you're like me, no,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it's kind of like draft. You're just like, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: it's draft fatigue, and you're just I'm just like, I
- 25:03Speaker 1: don't like to go Christmas right. I don't want to
- 25:07Speaker 1: walk out to the fields and out on the field again.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I want to see freaking Zave Flowers come out and
- 25:13Speaker 1: everybody is just like, let's go, instead of like great,
- 25:15Speaker 1: we gotta tackle for the next six seconds. You just
- 25:18Speaker 1: gotta look I Zay Flowers. You know my feelings on him.
- 25:22Speaker 1: But if they got if they got Paris Johnson or
- 25:24Speaker 1: Roderick Jones, you know, I'd be breaking down. I'd be excited.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah. And I mean guys are to your point,
- 25:29Speaker 1: like those guys are like just their presence alone, Like
- 25:31Speaker 1: you would look at Paris Johnson walking out there and
- 25:33Speaker 1: you'd be like, oh, boy, like this guy looks just
- 25:36Speaker 1: like a mountain of a man who you know can
- 25:38Speaker 1: do it all. So I get that part of it.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'll get crazy. You know. We'll be looking at this
- 25:41Speaker 1: stuff for a couple of months now, and you're like,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I just tell me who we got. Give me the
- 25:44Speaker 1: eleven guys, Like I just let's dive in on them
- 25:47Speaker 1: and move forward, get into OTAs and all that. I'm
- 25:49Speaker 1: getting little, im getting a little you know, aunty about
- 25:51Speaker 1: it's not gonna be eleven guys. I can guarantee more
- 25:56Speaker 1: or less, but it won't be eleven. I think it'll
- 25:58Speaker 1: be less. You're wrong. I don't know why, but it won't.
- 26:02Speaker 1: They won't stay put. It'll end up being more or less.
- 26:05Speaker 1: If you could get that to nine or fewer. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 1: see that's what Jeff's kiss. That's what dude started doing
- 26:10Speaker 1: in this mock drafts. So I'm like, well, what if
- 26:11Speaker 1: I just traded three picks up and then I only
- 26:13Speaker 1: have four more PA? That's lazy, all right. Five five
- 26:17Speaker 1: past five hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio
- 26:20Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. These mac
- 26:22Speaker 1: rumors keep going on, but I think at this point
- 26:25Speaker 1: it's just like, Okay, what can I add to the
- 26:27Speaker 1: story to get people to read this post? You know,
- 26:30Speaker 1: it's really not adding any information or anything like that.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I remain sort of intrigued by the lack of a
- 26:39Speaker 1: local reporter who strongly has comments saying why it's all
- 26:45Speaker 1: bunk right, mildly intrigued by the fact that we really
- 26:50Speaker 1: haven't had that strong rebuttal and I know that there
- 26:54Speaker 1: have been some I think Greg Baddard, I think Jeff
- 26:57Speaker 1: Howe have said it's not it's not accurate, but but
- 27:00Speaker 1: with no real substance. When you say, what's the trading,
- 27:04Speaker 1: he's being the whole. He's the whole. Post by Florio
- 27:08Speaker 1: on about the fact that he was shopped. Yeah, the
- 27:11Speaker 1: best we could come, you know, was the Michael Lombardi
- 27:15Speaker 1: response on his GM podcast GM Shuffle podcast, where kind
- 27:20Speaker 1: of used a semantic argument if you asked me, yep,
- 27:23Speaker 1: the difference between shopping and listening, right, yeah, and I
- 27:26Speaker 1: just you know, and I have some of the quotes.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We can get to it later. We don't have to
- 27:30Speaker 1: bog it down. But my feeling and Fred and I
- 27:33Speaker 1: talked about this a little yesterday guys. He said, you know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: it's not really shopping, it's listening. And there was one
- 27:42Speaker 1: one particular line that he used that um that I
- 27:46Speaker 1: thought was really odd. He's like, you know, so, okay,
- 27:49Speaker 1: so if if someone calls and they say, what do
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know you're gonna move, Mac, you know what do
- 27:54Speaker 1: you offer? And he and Michael Lombardi is because every
- 27:57Speaker 1: player is available, right, And I'm like, I don't know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrences. Do you make people will calling Doug Peterson
- 28:03Speaker 1: and saying, you know what do you what do you
- 28:05Speaker 1: give me? What can I What can I give you?
- 28:08Speaker 1: For Trevor Lawrence? Like they're hanging up the phone, They're
- 28:10Speaker 1: not listening. Not forget it, like I purposely didn't use
- 28:15Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Barter, Like those guys are
- 28:18Speaker 1: off the table, forget it. Like same situation. Entering the
- 28:23Speaker 1: third year, Trevor Lawrence had one sort of social year
- 28:25Speaker 1: and one pretty good year, just like Mac Jones. Right,
- 28:30Speaker 1: do you think Doug Peterson is listening to someone who
- 28:33Speaker 1: what do you give me for Trevor Lawrence? No, he's
- 28:35Speaker 1: not available. Not every player is available? Right at that position,
- 28:40Speaker 1: Partici tells me there's something to it and I and
- 28:43Speaker 1: I was really intrigued with Lombardi as he continued to
- 28:47Speaker 1: quote unquote shoot down the reports. Did you did you
- 28:51Speaker 1: guys listen to the rest of it? That's the money
- 28:53Speaker 1: quote with regard to the you know whether or not
- 28:56Speaker 1: he was being shopped. He says he wasn't being shopped,
- 28:59Speaker 1: but then he started talking to him about some of
- 29:02Speaker 1: the late tackling stuff on the field that didn't endear
- 29:05Speaker 1: himself to with his teammates either. So he's going to
- 29:07Speaker 1: have to cover that up. He's going to have to
- 29:09Speaker 1: show that he's mature too. Where is this coming from
- 29:12Speaker 1: other than Bill's mouth? Like that was a thing during
- 29:16Speaker 1: the season where like idiots like us talk about like
- 29:20Speaker 1: did did he slide? Like did he go? Like that
- 29:24Speaker 1: was that clead up against Chicago when he made the
- 29:26Speaker 1: safety jump over him? And you know when he tried
- 29:28Speaker 1: to take Eli Apple's legs out on that return that
- 29:31Speaker 1: ended up getting called back? Was that kind of cheap?
- 29:33Speaker 1: We talk about that stuff, and like months later, Michael
- 29:38Speaker 1: Lombardio is throwing that into as an example of why
- 29:40Speaker 1: Mac Jones needs to mature. Yeah, I'd forgotten about that,
- 29:43Speaker 1: but you know it was an issue back then. Oh yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 1: But obviously it doesn't matter if it's an issue with
- 29:50Speaker 1: us back I know it was an issue with Bill, Yeah,
- 29:53Speaker 1: which is kind of where we how we arrived here
- 29:56Speaker 1: in the first place, is people think there's static between
- 29:58Speaker 1: Bill and Mac. Yeah, and I've seen nothing to dispute well,
- 30:01Speaker 1: and it'd be so easy. I mean Bill has been
- 30:03Speaker 1: asked multiple times, is he the guy? I mean, it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: just be easy to be like, he's our guy. We
- 30:07Speaker 1: love him like, I mean, he could easily well. One
- 30:09Speaker 1: thing I did last year, one thing I will this time.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I'll defend the Patriots, and you know, in particularly in
- 30:15Speaker 1: specifically the Florio report. If I was the Patriots, I
- 30:19Speaker 1: would not send out a statement or anything disputing that.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I'm not going to get in the business knowledge I
- 30:25Speaker 1: don't know. I'm not going to get I know, but
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm not going to get into the business of disputing
- 30:29Speaker 1: rumors because then when I don't do it, my silence
- 30:32Speaker 1: says more than you know. So I don't address those things.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I agree you don't. We don't need a statement addressing that.
- 30:38Speaker 1: You do just the same thing you do when you
- 30:40Speaker 1: say that you're twenty seventh and spending that's different than
- 30:44Speaker 1: Bill a little bit of a stir. Yeah, you go
- 30:46Speaker 1: to the guy that you think will get that message
- 30:48Speaker 1: out for you when you say that's that we didn't
- 30:50Speaker 1: mean anything and and and that's different than Bill endorsing Mac.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That's a whole different thing, you know. But but in
- 30:55Speaker 1: terms of that specific report, I would not go out
- 30:57Speaker 1: and the Patriots are you know, are not shopping back
- 31:01Speaker 1: and no uncertain terms, you know, I would not that.
- 31:05Speaker 1: We don't need that. Yeah, this is my least favorite
- 31:07Speaker 1: part of the off season. Yeah, drama and all this. Oh,
- 31:13Speaker 1: come on, you're no fun. I still feel fun when
- 31:17Speaker 1: it comes to this no fun Lazarre Frank, I like
- 31:20Speaker 1: minutes yesterday. I'm with Paul. I'm definitely intrigued by the
- 31:23Speaker 1: report um one, because we saw how unhappy he was.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I mean plenty of times, whether it's you know, yelling
- 31:29Speaker 1: on the sidelines, frustrated things like that happening on the field.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised and allegedly calling Alabama to get
- 31:37Speaker 1: help with the offense. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised
- 31:39Speaker 1: if he popped up at the Raiders. I wouldn't be surprised.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Just let me know who's going to be the quarterback
- 31:44Speaker 1: in week one. I wouldn't be surprised back, so okat No,
- 31:51Speaker 1: on the other side, I don't like I Also in
- 31:54Speaker 1: a sense you have coaches who say, like, this person's
- 31:57Speaker 1: our guy, and then two days later they have a
- 31:59Speaker 1: whole new quarterbright. You don't believe it, Mary, They're called
- 32:03Speaker 1: sports Live. Yep, Yep, he's our yep. Just real quick
- 32:08Speaker 1: that i'd see Jeff Acuta got traded for a fifth
- 32:11Speaker 1: rounder seeing some people say wow, I guess I mean
- 32:14Speaker 1: Bernard saying guest Patricia didn't recommend him to Belichick at
- 32:18Speaker 1: that price? What what went wrong with Jeff Acuda third
- 32:20Speaker 1: overall pick? Right, couldn't play? It's just not good. He
- 32:22Speaker 1: wasn't good even coming out. I don't know he was
- 32:25Speaker 1: a good college play, but do you have you have
- 32:27Speaker 1: spidy sense. He might some injuries also, I think in
- 32:30Speaker 1: his in his NFL career, some serious ones. If I
- 32:33Speaker 1: remember get traded Atlanta, Atlanta interesting a lot, just doing
- 32:38Speaker 1: some some things considering a need. And if that is
- 32:42Speaker 1: Desmond Ridgerd can play um to fund one of the
- 32:45Speaker 1: you know, it's a terrible division. That could be one
- 32:46Speaker 1: of those teams that might open right next year. Yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 1: but I want to play. I want to pick the
- 32:52Speaker 1: scab with Evan. Okay, come out, because I think you
- 32:55Speaker 1: just said something that sort of lens Cretans. So it like,
- 32:57Speaker 1: just let me know who the quarterback is next year.
- 32:59Speaker 1: So you don't know, right, so there's at least some
- 33:02Speaker 1: doubt and you're not on right. Oh, I'm not saying
- 33:04Speaker 1: that there's okay, So that's you'd have to have your
- 33:07Speaker 1: head in the sand if you thought that there wasn't
- 33:09Speaker 1: at least an inkling of possibility that that let's just
- 33:13Speaker 1: say that, not even the trade rumors, that they're just
- 33:16Speaker 1: not sold on the quarterback, like you'd literally have to say.
- 33:19Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be like this earth shattering, Oh
- 33:23Speaker 1: they're shopping mac Jones. No one suggested they're walking around
- 33:26Speaker 1: with a picture of mac Jones with a four sale
- 33:28Speaker 1: sign overs it might be, well, but there's, like Evan
- 33:33Speaker 1: just put it, there's there's some uncertainty there. They're not sold.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I mean, to your point, Paul, if you flipped Trevor
- 33:40Speaker 1: Lawrence's seasons, wouldn't be crazy though, right If like people
- 33:44Speaker 1: started calling from him on that, well, that's different. Help
- 33:46Speaker 1: that he's on that different he's going on he's going
- 33:50Speaker 1: I also think Trevor Lawrence was also in an awful
- 33:52Speaker 1: situation and everything, and I just don't think that mac
- 33:56Speaker 1: Jones was in an awful situation. I don't think it
- 33:59Speaker 1: was ideal with his offensive coordinator. But he had the
- 34:01Speaker 1: Patriots organization with Bill Belichick as opposed to lose an
- 34:05Speaker 1: organization like Jacksonville with Urban Meyer. I also think Trevor
- 34:09Speaker 1: Lawrence all around is a better player and more mature
- 34:12Speaker 1: than Mac Jones. Well, he's definitely a better player, yea
- 34:15Speaker 1: better player. On this show when they were both rookies,
- 34:20Speaker 1: people like jumped down my throat because I'd say I'll
- 34:23Speaker 1: take Trevor Lawrence right now. Even all rookie years, Fred
- 34:28Speaker 1: kept saying, I'd still so much better on this show.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm not making fun of Fred. There's people who would
- 34:36Speaker 1: you take No, could Lawrence not serious? Right? Oh no?
- 34:42Speaker 1: I was no, No, No, you're serious? Yeah. I mean
- 34:44Speaker 1: the people say, oh no, because if you remember, at
- 34:48Speaker 1: the time, Trevor Lawrence did not look good. He had
- 34:50Speaker 1: a time, but I knew he was better. Yeah, ye,
- 34:53Speaker 1: all he needed was some coaching and right, yes, yeah Lawrence,
- 34:57Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence and the like incomparable like I will continue
- 35:00Speaker 1: to say there is nothing about Mac Jones. If I'm
- 35:03Speaker 1: a defense that makes me say I'm worried Trevor Lawrence
- 35:07Speaker 1: plenty to say listen, I give you right now. Three
- 35:11Speaker 1: first round picks for Trevor Lawrence. I would. I don't
- 35:15Speaker 1: know about that. I would, but I would take I
- 35:17Speaker 1: just think on me, I don't value the picks. I
- 35:19Speaker 1: just think. I just think eventually he'll be talked in
- 35:23Speaker 1: the same circles as Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. I
- 35:26Speaker 1: think eventually he will unless Jacksonville, I don't think. I
- 35:31Speaker 1: don't think that's a crazy thought. He's he's your franchise quarterback,
- 35:36Speaker 1: and I think that's worth three first round picks. I
- 35:39Speaker 1: gotta say, he really impressed me in the playoff game,
- 35:42Speaker 1: playing so badly for a half and then putting it
- 35:46Speaker 1: behind him. I think that's the hardest, the hardest conditions
- 35:50Speaker 1: to succeed in. I always used to say, and that's
- 35:53Speaker 1: a coming out sign for a quota. Used to say,
- 35:55Speaker 1: like when I when I played baseball, I would always say, yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 1: I pitch well today. Anybody can pitch well when they're pitching, Well, yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 1: what do you do when you don't have it right?
- 36:05Speaker 1: You're s how did that response where you can't put
- 36:08Speaker 1: the ball where you wanted? Do you find a way
- 36:10Speaker 1: to get some outs? Get from the game, right? That's
- 36:13Speaker 1: what That's what Trevor Lawrence did in that playoff game.
- 36:15Speaker 1: He didn't have it and he found a way. Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 1: that's what we haven't seen for Mac at all, Like
- 36:19Speaker 1: can you fight through adversity? Do you have grit? Do
- 36:22Speaker 1: you have like just anything that can allow you to
- 36:25Speaker 1: not have you know, the season that he did last year,
- 36:28Speaker 1: like Alabama for example, he played their prime Georgia being great,
- 36:32Speaker 1: prime LSU being great, and so I feel like he
- 36:35Speaker 1: really didn't have that level of competition where he had
- 36:37Speaker 1: to come back from being down twenty points. I threw
- 36:40Speaker 1: five interceptions the first half. He never had to come
- 36:42Speaker 1: back from that the whole time he was there. I
- 36:44Speaker 1: think for two with with Trevor Lawrence, it's kind of
- 36:47Speaker 1: lining up for him in the AFC South that if
- 36:49Speaker 1: he really is that guy, there's no real excuse with
- 36:52Speaker 1: Indianapolis or Houston he had to like like Tennessee like,
- 36:55Speaker 1: I mean, like we'll see, we'll see, because I think
- 36:58Speaker 1: that those two teams, um, I mean, I think Tennessee
- 37:01Speaker 1: is a different animal because they're clearly in transition. But
- 37:04Speaker 1: the other two are gonna try, they're gonna try to
- 37:07Speaker 1: find their quarterbacks. And I would say Houston in particular.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I think it's done a decent job of sort of
- 37:13Speaker 1: turning over that roster where they could be interesting if
- 37:17Speaker 1: they can get serviceable play now I think it Davis
- 37:23Speaker 1: Mills to me is mac Jones. I think he's thoroughly
- 37:26Speaker 1: adequate and his adequosity as I like to say, I
- 37:28Speaker 1: think you can be fine with him, but you're not
- 37:30Speaker 1: going anywhere with him. So I think they need better
- 37:33Speaker 1: than that. And I don't know, we'll see if did
- 37:35Speaker 1: they take C. J. Strout into Stroud Hit, Yeah, that
- 37:39Speaker 1: could be a team that could be a good battle
- 37:41Speaker 1: with you know, Stroud and Lawrence say the next five years,
- 37:44Speaker 1: six years, that would be fun to watch to see
- 37:48Speaker 1: if the Packers would trade up and take a quarterback,
- 37:52Speaker 1: because I mean they're saying Jordan loves our guy obviously,
- 37:55Speaker 1: but I'm like, do they believe that or are they
- 37:58Speaker 1: going to try to get another one? Yeah? Do they
- 38:00Speaker 1: have the resources to get another one? That's that's that's
- 38:03Speaker 1: very You can't do that if you're there, that'd be
- 38:05Speaker 1: to me fireable, Like you did all of this to
- 38:09Speaker 1: push Aaron Rodgers out and now you don't like the
- 38:13Speaker 1: guy you took toy. Maybe you'll always had the plan
- 38:17Speaker 1: to move up and get another guy. That was your plan.
- 38:20Speaker 1: They want like a high pick for Rogers. Anyway they're
- 38:24Speaker 1: not getting well, depends on whose first round they're getting,
- 38:27Speaker 1: the Jet the Jets. Yeah, well, I guess you're trading
- 38:32Speaker 1: him to the Jets right now. A matter of when
- 38:34Speaker 1: Jets pick to pick before the Patriots thirteen and they're
- 38:37Speaker 1: not trade. I agree with that, but they're not trading
- 38:39Speaker 1: thirteen for what happens there. That seems you pay him
- 38:42Speaker 1: sixty million to see how it works. It's crazy. I mean,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. They don't have as much leverage
- 38:47Speaker 1: as they think. Yeah, I mean, someone's got to happen
- 38:49Speaker 1: in the next couple of weeks, and this is we're
- 38:50Speaker 1: getting in the nitty gritty time. I just I'm just
- 38:52Speaker 1: going to let it ride all the way to training camp.
- 38:54Speaker 1: If you want to, if you're the Jets, call me in. Yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's just nothing saying that he doesn't already
- 38:59Speaker 1: have their playbook and he's not already studying and all that.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You know, I think it's interesting that OBJ didn't end
- 39:06Speaker 1: up going there. We didn't talk about that. Yeah, he
- 39:09Speaker 1: goes to the Ravens and everyone's saying, well, they got
- 39:11Speaker 1: him to get to bring Lamar back. Do you think
- 39:14Speaker 1: that e equals be there. I don't know if it's
- 39:18Speaker 1: like automatic, but yeah, I think that was a that's
- 39:21Speaker 1: why they did it. I mean, it certainly seems that,
- 39:23Speaker 1: you know, I know, um, I think Ian Rapp report
- 39:26Speaker 1: yesterday said that they were celebrating after the deal was done,
- 39:30Speaker 1: the two of them together. I know, no, no, no,
- 39:33Speaker 1: Jackson Beckham were celebrating together. They had an Instagram post.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I think that Lamar put out, you know, with them
- 39:41Speaker 1: face timing. So I do think if you sort of
- 39:44Speaker 1: look at it that way, more than likely they said
- 39:47Speaker 1: this is what we're gonna do. They gave him more
- 39:49Speaker 1: money than most teams looked like they were willing to do. Miraculously,
- 39:54Speaker 1: they decided, you know, they found a way to only
- 39:56Speaker 1: have account at like three million on the cap dues.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I don't know how. I don't know how these mad
- 40:00Speaker 1: they do. I don't know how they do that as well,
- 40:02Speaker 1: but a million is real money. They have four void years, Paul,
- 40:06Speaker 1: and that's really gonna come up and bite them in
- 40:09Speaker 1: the button a couple of years and then they're going
- 40:12Speaker 1: to be in cap jail and keep me in ding people,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and it's gonna be horrible to break out a cap jail.
- 40:18Speaker 1: But I will say, um and in all seriousness that like,
- 40:22Speaker 1: that's real money, so you know, you can joke about
- 40:25Speaker 1: the cap. I don't care about the cap part of it.
- 40:27Speaker 1: But cash spending, that's real cash. He's gonna, he's gonna.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I think it was like thirteen eight something in a
- 40:33Speaker 1: signing bonus. That's money that Bashadi has to give Odell Beckham. Yeah.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Worth it. That goes for one to count to another,
- 40:40Speaker 1: especially if it does grease the skids to get something
- 40:42Speaker 1: done with Lamar. Totally worth it. In the law, do
- 40:45Speaker 1: you do that if you're not certain you're gonna get
- 40:47Speaker 1: Lamar back? Or do you pretty much know we're gonna
- 40:49Speaker 1: get Lamar? I think the ladder, Yeah, I think in
- 40:51Speaker 1: The Ladder two. I've always felt the Ladder. And it's
- 40:54Speaker 1: just I think it's weird because he's he doesn't have
- 40:56Speaker 1: an agent and usually these things kind of get worked
- 40:58Speaker 1: out behind the scenes, and you just have a unique
- 40:59Speaker 1: situation him where you have a player negotiating zombie own behalf.
- 41:02Speaker 1: He's got no one to tell him, Hey, don't tweet that,
- 41:05Speaker 1: or hey, don't reveal that you're about to sell a
- 41:08Speaker 1: piece of crap workout equipment like hit a Park. It's
- 41:11Speaker 1: the no agent think has really really hurt him. I
- 41:15Speaker 1: think so in a lot of ways. And I I'm
- 41:18Speaker 1: all for player empowerment and them doing their own thing.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And if he doesn't want to have an agent, he
- 41:23Speaker 1: doesn't need to have an agent. But so many of
- 41:25Speaker 1: these things that have happened with Lamar Jackson never happened
- 41:29Speaker 1: if he has an agent. Speaking of agents, I saw
- 41:31Speaker 1: Air over the weekend. Oh yeah, how was it good movie?
- 41:34Speaker 1: I'm kind of intrigued. I want to go see it. Yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 1: real good. And this is the story of Nike and
- 41:39Speaker 1: how they they got Michael Jordan and how he kind
- 41:42Speaker 1: of launched it. See. I was on the opposite side
- 41:44Speaker 1: of that when my dad was a Reebok in the
- 41:45Speaker 1: eighties and like, you know, we had the aerobics, So
- 41:47Speaker 1: you're gonna go watching I know, we were allowed to
- 41:50Speaker 1: like wear Nike stuff. Girl, I mean, why would you
- 41:52Speaker 1: when your dad's coming home with you know, rebox all
- 41:54Speaker 1: the time. But it was, you know, just growing up
- 41:56Speaker 1: you were like, oh, Michael Jordan, Like I just kind
- 41:58Speaker 1: of had that up because that's where we were. But
- 42:00Speaker 1: I'm intrigued. I it looks pretty good. I've heard that
- 42:03Speaker 1: that that Ben and Matt do a good job. Yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I've always been obsessed with Michael Jordan and like, who
- 42:08Speaker 1: did Reboke have, Rick Roby, guy, Michael Chang Fred You've
- 42:12Speaker 1: been Michael. It's a different sport. Who do we have
- 42:16Speaker 1: in basketball? Well, I mean Shack was the big one
- 42:18Speaker 1: and oh yeah, you know, and everybody like you go
- 42:19Speaker 1: around the cubicles and it Rebok and everyone would have
- 42:22Speaker 1: like a mega Shack shoe. Um, he was the big one.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Uh they did? They have Hardaway too. I think they
- 42:28Speaker 1: might have had Penny Hardaway too. But you know, it
- 42:31Speaker 1: was like one of my Johnny LP one of my
- 42:33Speaker 1: jobs interning when I was there in high school was
- 42:35Speaker 1: like I go in and I have to like watch
- 42:36Speaker 1: Sports Center. If any Rebok athletes were featured, I have
- 42:39Speaker 1: to like flag on him it, you know, like put
- 42:41Speaker 1: Emma Smith. Emma Smith was another one. Remember they did
- 42:44Speaker 1: the live ad in the Super Bowl, so they they
- 42:47Speaker 1: took footage, which now it sounds like what's the big whoop?
- 42:50Speaker 1: But they took a highlight from one Emma Smith's like
- 42:53Speaker 1: first half touchdowns and then it was in the halftime
- 42:56Speaker 1: commercial that was the big like cell of what of
- 42:58Speaker 1: what they were doing? So you really like the movie
- 43:00Speaker 1: for Yeah, it was good? Sorry hid Jack. Yeah, so
- 43:03Speaker 1: it was better than eighty for Brady, which is on
- 43:06Speaker 1: demand now it's available on demand. I might have to
- 43:08Speaker 1: Oh I saw it. I watched it. I thought you
- 43:10Speaker 1: went to the theater. No, no, I know eighty for Brady.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I watched on demand. Yeah, wow, it's better, said the
- 43:17Speaker 1: production there is better than ay for Brady. The production
- 43:20Speaker 1: value of eighty for Brady was a Hallmark movie. It
- 43:22Speaker 1: really was. If you like Hallmark movies, you'll love it.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Did anyone? Did anyone expect anything more? Once you saw
- 43:29Speaker 1: him do his retirement from a cell phone video on
- 43:30Speaker 1: the beach and seriously, yeah, you're talking to Tamara though,
- 43:33Speaker 1: So you need like some kind of element of like
- 43:35Speaker 1: there's a crime in the first half of the movie.
- 43:37Speaker 1: The second half of the movie, they're like in per half,
- 43:39Speaker 1: like a haunting music in the middle boom boom. So anyway,
- 43:45Speaker 1: all right, eight five five pass five hundred, uh is
- 43:48Speaker 1: the eight ticket hot line. We're gonna start taking calls
- 43:50Speaker 1: and emails, but first Paul's Foods here. We'll be back
- 43:53Speaker 1: after this. Verizon, the network America relies on, and the

- 54:39Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't look at the thing. I know

- 55:25Speaker 1: So let's do that. I promised, and I keep my promises. Well,
- 55:29Speaker 1: everybody was able to eat because you said that. It
- 55:31Speaker 1: was just Paul. We just sat around and watched you.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Paul right, that's me staring at him Freddy eight years
- 55:38Speaker 1: before the show. I did describe it to me. Paul.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Let's go to Los Angeles where Christian is. What's up, Christian?
- 55:44Speaker 1: Thanks for holding on? Yeah, yeah you hey, you guys
- 55:47Speaker 1: at a long time those talk seasons over the new
- 55:49Speaker 1: one about to get ready to get sorted out. And
- 55:53Speaker 1: so here's what I'm here. I'm thinking. And you guys
- 55:56Speaker 1: let me know afterwards, what do you think of you
- 55:58Speaker 1: agree or not? I think we would be okay. Taking
- 56:02Speaker 1: Jean Robinson as our first pick, drew me out and
- 56:06Speaker 1: an a tackle or a big guard as our second pick. One.
- 56:10Speaker 1: You are talking about a generational talent too, who has
- 56:13Speaker 1: the contact balance of an Alvin Kamara, the vision and
- 56:18Speaker 1: shiftiness of a say Quon Barkley, the route running of
- 56:21Speaker 1: a of a Christian McCaffrey, and the downfield present or
- 56:25Speaker 1: may I say threat, either a legitimate downfield threat in
- 56:28Speaker 1: the passing game like James White. Do you pair him
- 56:32Speaker 1: with a vermondre Stevens in the backfield Mike is Sitty
- 56:37Speaker 1: and Hunter Henry as you're tight end, and whether or
- 56:41Speaker 1: not he caught a million balls last year or just
- 56:43Speaker 1: showing the flash A four tune Piquan Thornton on the
- 56:47Speaker 1: outside would Juju on the other side of the way
- 56:49Speaker 1: during his cuts and plant. That puts an awful lot
- 56:52Speaker 1: of pressure on the defense. So I think if we
- 56:55Speaker 1: were to go that route, I think we would be
- 56:57Speaker 1: okay offensively, Tamar, really quickly for you. You mentioned mac
- 57:02Speaker 1: Jones hadn't really had the challenge and conflict of having
- 57:07Speaker 1: to come back from twenty when he was in college. Typically,
- 57:10Speaker 1: when you got four first round wide receivers on your team,
- 57:13Speaker 1: you're not down by twenty. So he was never really
- 57:15Speaker 1: in that situation for that reason. Was for that reason
- 57:19Speaker 1: so he wasn't blaming him, was that he wasn't as
- 57:23Speaker 1: mature as Trevor as Trevor mars because Trevor Marris has
- 57:26Speaker 1: been through that kind of diversity. Well, yeah, but she's
- 57:29Speaker 1: just saying, and she's not blaming match, She's just saying,
- 57:31Speaker 1: it's a fact that he didn't have to deal with that.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I get right, when you have that kind of offensive
- 57:38Speaker 1: that's around you, you don't, right, it's not that he didn't.
- 57:40Speaker 1: But but Trevil Lawrence didn't have to do that in
- 57:42Speaker 1: college either. Yeah, he had to do it in the pros. Yeah,
- 57:46Speaker 1: so and you know, with the opportunity in the pros, now,
- 57:49Speaker 1: Lawrence has done it, has done it. Mac Jones hasn't. Yeah,
- 57:52Speaker 1: Trevor didn't lose any college games either, then we know
- 57:55Speaker 1: he doesn't. He had better receivers than we had, No,
- 57:58Speaker 1: not really wrong at not really at the Jas. Yeah,
- 58:03Speaker 1: at Clemson he had a pretty good offense. Right, he
- 58:06Speaker 1: never lost at Clemson. Yeah, but obviously he's lost a
- 58:09Speaker 1: ton with the Jaguars and has been able to fight
- 58:10Speaker 1: through adversity. All right, thanks for the call, Christians. He
- 58:13Speaker 1: also didn't have their receivers at Clemson. The mac had
- 58:16Speaker 1: an Alabam. No, well that wasn't even close. But like
- 58:19Speaker 1: right now, Jacksonville has some good players, Like, yeah, they're
- 58:23Speaker 1: not anything like Christian Kirk. I like, probably more than most.
- 58:27Speaker 1: But I was summarily laughed at last year when he
- 58:29Speaker 1: got that contract for liking. In his mind was like
- 58:32Speaker 1: like I would take him. Now, all of a sudden,
- 58:35Speaker 1: it's like, well, he's got a lot more around him.
- 58:37Speaker 1: He's got Christian Kirk. Christian Kirk's the best receiver out
- 58:40Speaker 1: of the two teams. Like, if you're drafting the Patriots
- 58:42Speaker 1: and the Jaguars receivers, I'm say Jones Kirk. No, I
- 58:46Speaker 1: would too, But I mean, let's not make it out
- 58:48Speaker 1: to be that they have like the Bengals wide receiver corps.
- 58:52Speaker 1: You know they'll get to that. They'll make fun of
- 58:54Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. He's just a product of his receivers too.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Let's go to Nicholas in Florida. What's up, Nicholas? Hey there,
- 59:01Speaker 1: how are you doing good? Good? Good? Yeah? First time caller, um,
- 59:07Speaker 1: not so long time listener. I suppose I started listening, uh,
- 59:11Speaker 1: right after we lost Brady. That's when things got interesting,
- 59:14Speaker 1: I suppose. I mean it's always been interesting, but you know,
- 59:17Speaker 1: a little more of a rebuild process. I suppose, um
- 59:21Speaker 1: a little. I don't want to stay on too long.
- 59:24Speaker 1: I have a little story about I work at a
- 59:27Speaker 1: restaurant in Longbow Key, Florida. I'm originally from Portland, Maine. Um,
- 59:33Speaker 1: and we get a lot of celebrities at the restaurant.
- 59:36Speaker 1: We've had like Judge, Duty Play Thompson, Chris collins Worth. Um.
- 59:42Speaker 1: But I went to visit one of my tables the
- 59:44Speaker 1: other day and Mike on Wino was there. Um, that
- 59:49Speaker 1: was kind of cool to meet a Patriots player training
- 59:53Speaker 1: down here in Florida eating at the restaurant a lot
- 59:57Speaker 1: of steak. What was that? Sorry, you take down a
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: lot of steak? Now? He had a two plates of
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: calamari and then a group of now which good choices,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: so big appetite for sure, and then finished it off
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: with a glass of red wine. Um. Got to talk
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: to him for a little bit though. He was pretty surprised,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: um that somebody recognized him. But well, there with Craig Robinson,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: a couple of Michigan boys. Okay, Well, thanks for the call, Nick,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: appreciate it. Thanks for the story, Michael, when you sighting
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: in Florida. Cool story, Hans Uh Kevin's in Rochester, New York.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: What's up, Kevin? Hey everybody, Yes, thanks for taking my call.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Appreciate it. Sure, um I uh So, I was thinking
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: about last year and you know, regardless of what ends
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: up happening with Mac Jones or anything, I was wondering
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: if you know, if we were to roll back the
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: team we had last year and have a confident coaching
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: staff on the offensive side of the ball, right regarding
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien and his things, would we would we have
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: like so Mac jonestall, like he always have like one
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: second to throw the ball, and there was always a
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: lot of scattering and you know, all the all the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: jitteriness you would see of Mac Jones. Do we think
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: just having a Bill O'Brien would resolve a lot of
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: that or because there was a lot of other issues
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: that I would see, Like you know, it seems like
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: after Scar left, like just the discipline of the front
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: line was just not as good and anyway, just curious
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: to think what you guys thought about that and then
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: you know, and is there some piece to the puzzle
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: that we need in this upcoming draft. I think it's
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: a good question. Thanks. I think that's what they're largely
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: counting on this year, you know, in terms of personnel,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: largely the same. Maybe they would have gotten one or
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: two more wins, but it's just it's hard to say
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: that they would have beaten a playoff team last year
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: just because they had Bill O'Brien. I didn't see enough.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Maybe they would have gotten one to two more wins
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: with him, but that might be up a mystic. Well,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I mean, one to two more wins gets you in
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: the playoffs, right right. I just think that a lot
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: of people when they ask that type of question, they're
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: really talking about Mac individually, of how can we evaluate
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: last season and is he really that bad or is
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: he how good? Really is he? And do we have
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: that answer? And I think for all of us, in
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: order for any of us to be one hundred percent
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: sold on Mac Jones, he needs to be better than
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: he was as a rookie, not just getting back down
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: to the rookie you know, back up to the rookie level,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: but even better than that for anybody to be one
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: hundred percent sold that that he's the guy for the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: next ten years. Otherwise, if he's just as good as
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: he was as a rookie, then where I don't really
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: think that it's changed all that much. I mean, I
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: think him taking that next step is how you get
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: to the point of being able to compete with these
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: playoff teams at full power, and you know, to go
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: into a Cincinnati, a Kansas City, a Buffalo, you know,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: and I think we're really going to need things to
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: go right today. We might need a storm, we might
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: need a quarterback to get hurt, like you know, those
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: are the things that that they've needed over the last
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: few years to to beat those good teams. Straight up,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: it's just that doesn't happen. Uh. Our next one, now, Chris,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: our web master, you're you're from out western mass right
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: like central Agahome agahom he spells Agawam agahom g h
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: a w h o m ah whom. Yeah, but it's
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: pat n Agawam. What's up? Pat? That was actually the
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: original spelling of Agawam. I think properly you say agis
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Chris knows the native of all christ An apology. Yeah,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: we're just going with the conventional spelling miwak, which means
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: O R O one. I was just thinking that in
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: my head. I was like, is that like Foxborough. I've
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: seen it two different ways. Yeah, technically it's ouh okay.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: That's how Eric wrote it on all his articles. He
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: was correct. He was correct. If you're talking about the town,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: it's o U g h. If you're talking about the
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: old stadium, it was O r oh. That's true. I
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: like that. It's a good rule of thumb. It's not
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: a rule. It was Yeah, it's a fact. There was
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: a sign that had R. I need nemonic devices sometimes,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: and I'm writing, what's up, pat up, guys, what's up? Everyone? Um,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: just really quickly. I'm I'm not picking on you, Paul
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: when I say this, but I'm gonna invoke my two
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: thousand and one Paul draft attitude. If we take Bjohn
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Robinson at fourteen, and I'm just I'm gonna resign at
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: least for this coming year. Like, I don't want to
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: see it. I really don't want to see it because,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: like Evan said, like a lot of other people I've
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: heard said, this isn't nineteen ninety one. I mean, come on,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: we have a good running back. You can get a
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: good running back and like fourth round or later, just
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: do the right thing. If to take at number four,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: to pick, don't screw around, don't wait, don't trade back
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: or a tackle if they happy with either, But I'd
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: be more happy with they if the Patriots surprised us
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: and take bi John Robinson. It is Blank's pick. Who's
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: picking else? That's what do you mean? They're all Bill Belichick? Really?
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: You don't think that like he took the advice to
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: somebody else. No, that doesn't sound like a Bill pick.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: That sounds one hundred percent like a Bill pick. To
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: take a running back at fourteen, yes, I'll pick Patty
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: and Irwell just said it's nineteen ninety it's not nineteen
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: ninety one. I know, boom great. Yeah, but Bill would
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: never take a running back that high. He took Lawrence
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Maroney at like twenty. Yeah that was twenty you know, Fred? Yeah,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: I don't all the answer to any question that you say,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: whose pick was that? My answer will always be Bill
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Belichick until he's no longer here. Well, and that's why
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: they won't pick him. But in this particular case, i
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: don't know how you like would push back on whatever
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: and saying, yeah, I just I'm running back to old
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: school pick. Definitely an old school pick. But I don't
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: think Bill would ever take him. I just I can't
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: see him taking I don't see that's that's two different things. Yeah,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I don't see the Patriots taking him. If the Patriots
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: don't take him, that's not an indication that someone else
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: made the pick. Well, I'm saying if the Patriots took him,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I'm saying it, then it was on board. Bill wanted them.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: I'd say maybe Robert Kraft wanted them. Do you think
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: that about Beijon? What do you think that you think
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: the running back is anti Bill? Yes, on this edition
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: of the Patriots with all their needs to take a
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: running back at fourteen would be anti Bill. I guess
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: maybe you could say the need thing. I could see
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: where you're coming from, just because their last few drafts
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: were need base. But I don't know. I think Bill
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: thinking that you can still build an offense through running back.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: It's totally I disagree he was, especially with what he
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: thinks about his quarterback. Yeah, that's what I was thinking
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: in my head with the way he thinks of his quarterback.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Maybe he thinks that if he takes some of the
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: pressure to throw off of him, Well, you've got a
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: point there. Now, I'm not going to get into the
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you know, let's kill him for something he hasn't done.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: But I agree with Evan. If if it happens, that's
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: what the reasoning that you've got a point there. That
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: would be a total lack of faith in his quarterback.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: And then he would get They would get up there
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: and they would be like, oh, well he was the
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: best player available and he is. How can we how
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: can we pass him up? He was so good? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: totally would ask you if you guys grinding tape on Jean.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I did Mark and Connecticut wants to talk to Evan. Wonderful.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: What's up? Even? What's going on? Brother? What's up? So
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: your Mark draft? Absolutely perfect? Oh thank you? Trade down
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: to twenty, you pig Zay Flowers and then in the
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: second round you move up and you big Darnell Washington.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: If they do those two pigs that that that's just
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: a amazing And I don't care what they do after that.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I appreciate that they're not going to do that, but
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I appreciate that was my That was like, we did
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: three of them so far. I don't know if we're
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: going to do a fourth right before the draft or not.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: He's Mike saying, no, we did everybody else. We did
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: the first two. I put my Belichick you know hat
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: on and was like, what would Bill do this last one?
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I was like, what would Evan do? Like, I'm just
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: gonna do what I want to do and have fun
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: with it, and that's what I did. But if they
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: did it was absolutely perfect, Well, thank you because you
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: like the pick. Yeah, if they do what I did
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: in my mock draft, I would say somebody else might
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: have a somebody else might have a say at the table.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: If they picked a five foot nine slot receiver in
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: the first round, then I will tell you that Bill
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Belichick was swayed, but by somebody in the second round. Yeah,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: that's more of a Bill pick. Darnel Washington is more
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: of a Bill pick. But Zay Flowers in the first
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: round is not a Bill pick. So if that's the case,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: then that then the only changed like to move them
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: from where they are to contender status. Is a meteoric
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: rise for the quarterback like Zay Flowers isn't putting you
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: in contender status if Mac Jones is what he's been
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: for two years. I know, but I think what you
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: would hope is obviously that having Azay Flowers is going
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: to elevate Mac and having Bill O'Brien right to those
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: two things together. Now you have Josh McDaniels and they
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: weren't at that status, but he hit he hit the
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: wall in his rookie year, but he got off to
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: a pretty good start with Josh mcdid and his rookiear
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: that didn't have Zay Flowers right out of the game.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: He's thrown into Kobe Myers and Kendrick Bourne and Nelson
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Agalore like this this kid is different. Like this kid
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: is different than those guys like just he just moves
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: differently on a football field. So if you have a
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: guy like Zay Flowers that can open up the offense
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: and make it easier for the order back to hit
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: some big plays just by getting number four the football.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: He wread number four at BC, I don't know if
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: he will hear Yeah, number four the football. Then happy
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: and he becomes the binkie that he According to Dante
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: uh Let's see Ron and Cambridge says, remember the days
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: when Deuce would complain about Brady's TV twelve business and
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: how he wasn't a team player and too focused on
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: off field business and complaining about twelve and four seasons,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and how when Brady left, it would be so interesting
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: to see how Bill would succeed once Brady left nailed it. Boy,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: do I wish for those days back, curious to see
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: how Bill's number one fan would defend him. Now it
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: appears the Emperor has no clothes. Oh good email. That
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: was great. That was great. You perfectly put me into
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: the ya. Yeah. Uh, look, man, it ain't going great.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: What do you want me to say? I ain't enjoying
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: it in all seriousness? Yeah, because you know, I you know,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: I do it for sport. I liked to I like
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: to tsu. Yeah. If there's been very many things that
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: you've said that you regretted with it, I think it'll
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: be interesting to see what happens. No, no, no, because
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: because fair no interesting, it was there the opposite of interesting.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: They're boring. No, but to see what will happen. I'm
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: not saying that the result is. I know I think
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: and I you know you can correct me. Mike. If
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I'm putting words, you know, I think what Mike really
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: strongly felt at the time was he's gonna show everybody
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: he can do it without Well that's not what he said.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: But that's the interesting part is this has set up
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: in a way that it's gonna be sustained. Yeah, we
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: might not be super Bowl caliber the very next year,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: but we're gonna build the team the same way we
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: always because I think I always teach you like you know,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: the Santa Claus line, no, no, no, and I but
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I just think people, especially out of the game, it
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: was the hoodie thing put me as like Bill Belichick
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: super fan, which I like coaches. I really like coaches.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I think it's you know, one of the coolest parts
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: of sports to me is is coaching. But I just
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: never came from a place where like, we're gonna show
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: him Bill Like I didn't really, I was never invested
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: like that. I think the think this where and like
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: and we know, you start walking down the street and
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: all of a sudden you're up on the hill defending
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: the thing. And I'll still say this, Tom Brady had
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: three more years, you got an answer about how they
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: were going to get another super Bowl in those three
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: years with that Patriots team that they had in twenty nineteen,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I'm all ears, I'm all ears. That was where I was.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I realized it ain't happening. They ain't They ain't getting
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: another another super Bowl from him here. He's not engaged anymore,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: he doesn't want to be here. Now is the time
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: to move on. That's that was my point, and I
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: still think it was the right point. If you told me, like, hey,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: if they had just drafted this guy and this guy
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: in twenty twenty and done this and that twenty like
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: twenty twenty one wouldn't have happened. Like so, I'm still waiting,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: like that's my question. What would you have done? What
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: would you have done over the last three years? You
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: you just keep rolling Brady out there him, play with
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: this autense me get him engaged and and pretty simple, right,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: give him some money. He would have gotten re engaged regardless.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I don't necessarily fully described to that. But if Tom
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen, if they had drafted AJ Brown instead
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: of nikkil Harry, dude, do you you don't think that
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: he would have been That's but that's before the fact,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: that's before the facts. I mean, my point is is
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: that you said there was nothing that they could do
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: like there if they came, if they if they got
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: one of those number one receivers for him, and all
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: of a sudden that you know he has a connection
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: like that, then I still because he was as have
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: to give him his money. It's it's the money thing
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: is It's just a different it's a different conversation because
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: these were conversations had in the fall of twenty nineteen.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: The table was already set with that twenty nineteen draft
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: for me, and there was no way out of mistake
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: was made. I agree with Mike. These mistakes were prior
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: to getting to that point. Yeah, and we remember back
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: in that summer when he was talking about it like
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: they doubted him long before we got to the end
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: of the road. Yeah, and that was I think sort
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: of unless they were going to pay him, they weren't
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: going back. But I think I don't put it on
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Tom either, like no I put it on I put
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: it at all parties. Really, I think there was some
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: some blame to go around. Much like most of these things,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: it's not always black and white. There's there's there's more,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: you know, it's probably more in the middle. Elf from Wisconsin.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Fred's eternal optimism is absolutely hilarious. He has full faith
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: that Bill will do the right thing, despite a massive
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: amount of evidence to the contrary, and it seems like
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: he even gets annoyed with people who have lost the faith.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Fact is, I don't think Bill wanted to hire Billy Oh.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I think he thinks the reason it didn't work last
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: year where the players and the coaching was fine. I
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: also don't trust him to draft the right guys or
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: to develop them if he does. I think what it
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: all comes down to is a lack of accountability. He
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: seems to think he is infallible, so nothing was ever
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: his or his coach's fault. Because of this, I'm ready
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: to move on. I don't know what will come next,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: but I feel pretty certain that for as long as
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Bill stays, will be around eight or nine wins this season.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: To me, it's okay to have one of two really
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: bad seasons in order to get that high draft pick
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: talent it is. I agree with a lot of that email. Yeah, same,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: I think that. I mean, even when Bill was asked
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: about that at the owner's meetings, He's like, it's the
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: best it was the best thing for the team, Like
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: the answers are just like it doesn't sound like it
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: was something he wanted to do, like it was the
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: best thing for the team, not like it was just
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: it was whether or not, like I agree with Tamara
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: and whether or not it was what he wanted to do.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I mean, can't I can't definitively tell you that he
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: didn't want to do it. I mean it's not but
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: like the other side can't be stated unequivocally either, which
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: Mike Lombardi and that rant that was part of it.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: He goes, you know, these two they have to come together.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: You know, Bill admitted that he was I'm sorry, what
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: are you saying that because they they signed Bill O'Brien
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: that was an admission, because that's what he's saying. Because
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: I don't think that that's necessarily the case. I agree
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: with Tamara. I think it was something that was sort
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: of forced upon him. Number One, I don't know this
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: for a fact, but that's just my thought. And number two,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: has he talked to Mac about it, which I have
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: absolutely no idea that to me is what needs to happen. Well,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Max's not you know, for his part, Max's not, you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: acting like the petulant child. He's he's here, he's working out,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: he's doing community stuff. You know, um in this community.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Now you know where he lives, um, you know, damage control. Yeah.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: I think he's doing a good job. But but whatever
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: you want to do, I think he's doing a good job. Yeah,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: that's what I would call it. Like he's showing that
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I want to be part of this community, I want
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: to be part of the team. I think he recognizes
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: that he has some culpability for what happened last year,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: and he's trying to rectify. Someone has to Yeah, I
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: don't think the other side is I was going to say,
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I feel like Bill has had the opportunity to acknowledge
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: that the experiment as Robert Kraft described it, um and
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: somebody else did. Yeah. Yeah, I mean just to hear
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Robert Kraft in Arizona say call it an experiment and
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: say it failed, Like I thought that was because Robert
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Kraft looked at it objective, like a real sane person. Yes,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I just don't think he's going to be accountable. He's
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: never going to be accountable to the media or the
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: fans in the way that they all want he's going
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: to be accountable to Robert Craft in the private meetings
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: behind closed doors, and otherwise, all he's going to say
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: to you is I'm doing what I think is best
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: for the team, and that's all you're getting. You're ever
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: going to come out and say I don't need him
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: to be accountable to us. I don't. But I can
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: read between the lines with Build. You know, we all
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: have enough experience now with him to understand what he's
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: what he's really saying, and when he sits there and
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: he says some things at the owner's meetings that clearly
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I'm one hundred and ten percent with Tamara. He thinks
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: the players were there at fault last year. I can
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: give you a doesn't think it's the coaching. He totally
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: was the players, And that to me, on top of
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: some other you know, actual things like you know, money
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: and was like that. But I do think that there
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: was a factor into why Jacoby Myers is no longer
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: here and Damian Harris is no longer here who they
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: could have had at probably a better contract than James Robinson,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: a guy that you know fits here and works well
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: here and is well liked in the locker room and
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: they've moved on. I think that's why Brian Hoyer, who
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: cost them money to get rid of, is no longer here,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: is because all these players stood up and said, this
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: is not what are we doing on offense. And luckily
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: for Mac, he's the quarterback and he's too important to
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: the organization to just cut ties with him immediately. But
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: everything points to the fact that Bill thinks that the
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: coaching would have been fine last year if the players
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: bought in and the players too, you know, were in
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: agreeance with what they were doing. So by that motive
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: thinking though, then not much is going to change this year, right,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Like I mean, if you can't accept what you were
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: responsible for last year, and yeah, you got new coaches again,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien, you're hoping that Bill O'Brien has enough sway
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: with Bill that Bill says, go make me an offense
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: and he lets him do it, and he lets him
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: do it. Well, yeah, like I don't, but I think
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: those are two different things. Like, yeah, I think Bill
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: O'Brien will be a better offensive coordinator than Matt patricia
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Hey because he's an offensive coordinator, so that by definition
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: is going to make him a better one. But I
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: agree with Mike's point, like I think when and there
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: were so many things in that that owner's meeting, the
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: special teams won really got yep, got got me make
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: me going at the time, like you know, well, you
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: know it's not Cam and I'm not suggesting it was
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Cam a Cord, but I'm saying he's telling you that
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: he doesn't think the offense was a train wreck because
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: of coaching last year. He's basically telling you that. I
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: always say, forget what he says. All right, listen into him,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: but don't listen necessarily to the words, go by his actions.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: What is he telling you by not saying this or
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: by saying that, or what he ends up doing. I'm sorry.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: When the season ends and three days later we put
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: out what I would call an unprecedented press release, I
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: don't think that was Bill Belichick. Oh no, no, no,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: definitely not. I think the reason why that that was
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: rubber stamped, you know, accelerated, was Robert Kraft, of course,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: and good for him for doing it, yeah, because otherwise
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: I think there's a chance that we drag our feet
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, well you know, you know, well,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: I mean, what would have gotten Bill O'Brien, but you know,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: he took the Iowa state job or something, you know,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: some random call or whatever, and now you don't have
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: any options. Well, you know, we're better off with just
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Matpetrician in year two. I think that could have happened too.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: Floyd in Redford, Michigan last year, I all the Patriots
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: pregame show and I asked, do the Patriots want a
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: playmaker at quarterback? Please see the following responses. Hardy said
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: everyone in the NFL wants to play maker at quarterback. Paul,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: if Justin Fields was there, the Patriots would have drafted him.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: The lovely Tamara. I don't know about that. Patriots drafting
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Justin Field? And then Mike said Mack is their kind
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: of guy. The rest of the NFL has moved to
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: the more mobile quarterback, but not the Patriots. We have
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: passed on Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts and failed to move
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: up four spots draft Justin Field. Can we please have
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: a new quarterback philosophy? I don't know. Joe Burrow's doing
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: pretty well. Yeah, I think he's a lot more mobile
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: than these guys. He's not a runner, but he's he's
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: pretty mobile. His legs are not a factor like you are.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: You're not, and watch the championship game in Kansas City.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I'm not saying he can't move. I'm just saying you're not.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: If you're a defensive coordinator and you're going up against
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: the Bengals, you're not game planning Joe Burrow's mobility. No,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I would agree, But he has the option if needs to.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: I think Mac has the option if he needs to too.
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think he can make the plays
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: that he that Burrow makes with his legs. They ran
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: the same forty I don't know. I mean, it's not
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: about speed, it's about pocket presence and everything that goes
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: into it. I think he's a better runner. I think
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: he was a better runner at LSU. I think he
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: made plays with his legs at LSU. He's not. You're right,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: they're not game planning to stop that, just like I
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: don't think they're. I think Justin Herbert's really mobile, too,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: but I don't think teams are game planning to stop
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: his running. Well, you have to work and run. It's
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: like you're mindful of it, but you're not. I agree
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: with you. Like from a physical standpoint, especially now with
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: the toWin ACL, they're probably not all that different. I
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: just thought, I just think it's white years different when
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: you watch him. I just think the difference isn't about
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: I guess my point is the difference isn't it about
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: running or mobility. It's more about I think two things.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: One just pure arm talent like these other guys, like
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Justin Herbert's a good example, just has a howitzer. And
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: then you also have you know, out of structure playmaking
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: and that a native field to just kind of create,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: you know, when things break down, can I get outside
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: the pocket, buy time and then make a throw down
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: the field that that element of it. Mac Jones doesn't
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: necessarily have like some of these other guys. But I
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: think that gets lost and that's not to me. That's
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: a little bit different than than calling it mobility. Like
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: I don't think they need Jalen Hurts, I don't. I
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: don't have a definition of what I would call it.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I'm just telling you that those guys can get out
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: of the pocket and make plays. Mac Jones, Yeah, the
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: ability to improvise. It's like, you know, on a day
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: to day basis, like we have to improvise in what
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: we do. Depending on you know, you might prepare for
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: an interview with Mac Jones and Mac Jones doesn't show
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: up and you get Stevenson. Example, we have to seem
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: sometimes we have to improvise, and like Mac Jones when
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: a play doesn't go well, like he doesn't improvise. There's
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: one time get sacked or throws the ball, one time
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: that I can always think of when we have this conversation.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: Last last year against Baltimore fourth down, he made a play.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: He did he made a play and that was the
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: one game last year. I'm not saying I'm just saying
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: that that one time I made that play, and it
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: was early on in the season, to the point where,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: on top of it, some of the downfield throws he
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: made in that game where some of his better downfield
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: throws as a pro too, and you started to say, okay,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: you know, if he can play like this and obviously
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: be a little bit more under control in the turnover department,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: then at least it's it's more it has a higher
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: ceiling than the other things that we have seen from him.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: But that that was one flash, and I will fully
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: admit that was one little window like between somewhere between
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: that between that throw and the ankle injury in the
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: end of that game where I kind of felt a
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: glimmer of hope last year, like that was probably the
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: only little window there in the fourth quarter whatever it was,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: because once he got his ankle, You're like, well, great,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: now he's out. We're gonna you know, it's happy for
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: two things that I don't know about. That is part
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: of what Evan just said about, you know, like some
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: of the downfield throws, if you could cut back on
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: the mistakes mistakes I don't know if he can do that.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I don't know if he's capable of making the downfield
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: throws without putting the ball at risk. I don't know.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: I'm not telling you he's not. But I agree with
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Evan's overall assessment of that game. And I know it's
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: crazy to look at the game that he threw with
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: three interceptions, said that was I did. That was the
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: best game because it wasn't like little swing passes to
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Romandre Stevenson that got twelve yards, right he was. It
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: was throws that got the yards in that game, and
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: you got caught in a little bit of a shootout
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: and they didn't just melt. Yeah, he punched back. He
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: made plays to punch back. Now, unfortunately there were too
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: many mistakes for them to keep up. But I thought
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: there were glimmers in that game that I hadn't seen.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: The only other game another one where I was like,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: that was bad defense, Like he's defense was horrible, and
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: but I mean in the special team's mistakes, but in
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: the fourth was another one where Bagel Yeah, I just
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: I think to your point, Paul, this is it's some
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: of the most interesting thing I have coming into this
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: season is what do they do with Mac this year?
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Because as much as you want to say, oh, that
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: was the Matt Patricia offense last year, I think a
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: lot of the philosophy of that offense was Bill and
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: this is the direction we want to go. How do
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: they marry what Josh did on offense and what they
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: tried to do on offense last year into what this is.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: I actually think that the offense last year, the roots
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: of the offense last year was Alabama and they were
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: trying to get him to throw the ball down the
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: field like he did at Alabama. If you go watch
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: Mac Jones, it's Alabama film. It's bombs away like that
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: he does, you know, but he's throwing bombs to Davante
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Smith and Jalen Waddle and John Metchie. You know, he's
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: not throwing bombs right right. It's like the interception through
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: in the playoff game in Buffalo and the first drive
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: when he actually did make a couple of plays with
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: his legs that night on that drive to move the chains.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: And then he's got a guy forget if it was
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: I forget who he was. Yeah, he was open throws
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: late and show and well and in the same guy
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: here's made an unbelievable interception. It would it would help
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: if the receiver actually tried to go up and get
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: I mean, here's the hope I have. Like when Mac
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: was coming out, we were all told he's the most
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: pro ready guy in the draft, and that's because of
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: his head of his cerebral you know abilities. And then
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: we see last year that we were told that there
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: were no adjustments at the line, that there was no
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: opportunity for him to use his brain, you know, curiosity, whatever.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: So my hope that year is whatever the offense is,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it, if it doesn't take
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: advantage of the thing that he's supposedly the best at,
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: which is decision making, then I don't know what they're doing. Yeah,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: and that's I think to the Za Flowers of it all,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: that's you know, get back to that. And I mean,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: I just don't think you really have receivers who are
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: going to separate like you had in Alabama. I mean,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: maybe we hold out hope that Taekwon Thornton's able to
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: shake loose, but yeah, and also a line that gives
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: him more than two and a half second the row. Well,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: but he's agreed, but he also that is also partially
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: on the quarterback, like he's gotta get rid of the ball,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: and they have to have the receivers that he can
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: get rid of the ball too, And he's got to
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: work quickly through the progression. I think last year, the
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: guy that you saw towards the especially down the stretch,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: in terms of progression speed and how fast he was
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: going through things, well, I didn't even know who I
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: was watching anymore, because the guy at Alabama was like
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: boom boom, boom boom. The guy his rookie year was
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: was similar to the guy at Alabama. And then last
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: year his ability to just read the defense, get the
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: ball out to the right guy. I mean, how many
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: times was his back to the open receiver last year
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: where he would just open the wrong direction and never
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: get to that side of the field and the guy's stating,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: you know, standing in there, And for whatever reason, I
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: don't want to go, I went to this rabbit hole.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: But I feel I have to say when Zappy came in,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: it looked like that, like it was three step drop,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: five step drop, get rid of it. And for whatever reason,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: it looked better with Zappi when he came in. And
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: that's why I think people got the fever, you know,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: because he was a people getting rid of the ball.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: It looked better in the Cleveland game. Yeah, I'm not
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: sure how much better it looked. But Cargo game or
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: a Green Bay game or Detroit, people forget about People
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: forget that the other team went over for six on
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: fourth thound. Yeah they Yeah, this is the one time
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: that I will go after that, I will allow Paul
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: to do this game. That's true because that the Lions
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: were playing practice squad guys in their secondary that day.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Because everybody was hurt for the Lions in their cornerback room,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: and it really wasn't that much better. The Cleveland game
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: was a different offense than what we saw in the
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: other Yeah sixteen Fred. Wait back to that email, though,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I would just like to note that Jalen Hurts, he
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: didn't look the way he did until they purchased the
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: pieces to make him look good. So without going after Brown, yes,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: I mean, without going after Brown those other things to
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: make their offense good enough to get them to the
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: super Bowl, I don't know what Jalen Hurts would have
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: looked like last year. And the same thing with Um Fields.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Fields didn't look good till they came here in Foxborow
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: and then they figured it out. So I just and
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: again they've added a lot of pieces. I think in
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: both cases Fields and Hurts, the teams realize what they had. Yes,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: they figured okay, you know definitely with Hurts. Yeah yeah, Fields,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: I think they're still trying to figure that out, but
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: already off they do know, we gotta let this guy
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: run a little bit. Yeah, that's full second coaching staff. Yeah,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: that's what god Fields going was this that game here
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: Monday night, they finally unveiled like a Lamar Jackson style
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: rush package for him, and it opened everything up Mike
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: in la Evan and Mike loved the mock draft videos,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: But since when did Flowers become worthy of the fourteenth pick?
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: The whole local guy out of BC thing should should
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: not boost him that high in the first What makes
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: him worthy of being taken at fourteen? I watched the film,
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Oh wow, it was love at first sight. Wow. I
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: just I'm sorry I that was that was But I
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: just feel really because I'm getting I get I've gotten
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: this pushback a lot from people of all like you know,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: why are you so in love with this kid? YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: Like he's only five foot nine. Well, I don't just
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: look at measurements like with with with prospects, like you
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: actually watch them play football, because you know, Tyreek Hill
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: is like five to eight right, and and Jalen Waddle
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: is basically the same size as a Flowers is five nine,
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: one eighty. I don't know. I mean, I just don't
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: really feel like so he doesn't he's not an impressive
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: guy coming off the bus, So he's not worth the
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: first round pick. Like I just I don't really get that. Like, Okay,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: then they should draft Quentin Johnston and he'll be to
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: kill Harry two point zero and cool, good job, Like
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I why does that matter how he looks in in
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: spandex at the combine. I just don't see that. Say
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I'm a twenty. It wasn't even fourteen. I don't I know, right,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: and I traded down. Come on, pay attention. Todd says
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: that we were talking early Kyle Murray and Bryce Young
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: and uh. Todd says that they're both the exact same height. Yeah, no,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: they've Bryce Young is taller right at the combine. He
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: was five ten, wasn't it, he says. According to nfl
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: dot com slash Prospects, Bryce Young and Kyler Murray are
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: measured in at the exact same height, but Kyler Murray
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: was wearing pie heels or something that day. Yeah, I'm
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: not comparing him to Kyler Murray. I'm asking what Bryce
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: young size was at the combine. I thought it was five.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: So they measured Kyler at five ten and they measured
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: I guess they did measure in at the same at
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: the combine. But I I've stood next to both of
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: them at the combine. I will say this, and again,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I don't really care about Kyler Murray for this particular
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: argument that's disrespectful to Kyler Murray. I mean I care
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: about I mean, he's a human being, um. But for
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: this argument, I'm much more concerned um with Bryce Young's
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: size in terms of his bill thickness, Dan i AMA's height.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I think we've seen an enough evidence in the last
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: ten years that you don't have to be six five anymore.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: There are plenty of guys that are six foot and
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: under that fine ways to succeed, like Russell Wilson has
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: and I think this guy could do it too. But
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: he's small, is thick, yeah, And this guy isn't. He's
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: really slight, and I think I think he put on something. God,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: I think he put on some weight for the combine
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: to make it look like, Yeah, he had a little
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: bit more bulk. I think he's a sub two hundred guy,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: and he's definitely sub six feet. I know that. Maybe
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: then maybe I'm wrong about the measurements, But I just
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: watching the two of those guys, like, I just don't.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Kyler is is little, like you know, I don't. I
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: don't think of Bryce Young the way he runs with
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: the football too. It's just like it's right, he's fast.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: If I didn't give him that my hamstrings weren't still
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: killing from the weekend. I would give you the the
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Kyler Murray run build a fire Goodness. Let's get back
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: to the Ace ticket helpline. We'll start with Eldred. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: Evn Quentin tough three cone? Time for your guy? Eldred?
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: What I haven't looked at it lately, but uh not?
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: But my question is, uh, Evan, Yes, I like your
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: draft too, thank you, But you wanna got enough guys
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: on the inside. I mean, don't you think the defensive
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: be thinking at you? But you ain't got nobody to
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: skim them on the outside? Oh nobody you got Stave Parker.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: You hope though it might do it, but I don't know.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I just I'm just taking the best player. I don't
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: really care about where they're gonna play. And I'm also
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: I don't really like I don't think you should make
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: decisions off of who you should draft because you have
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Kendrick Boring on your round. What did you get for
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: trading down to twenty high third round pick? Okay, it
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: sounds reacing, Yeah, I oh, he asked me about the
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: trade down. I just want to know what time you
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: do it. You have to do it like the SPFW guys,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: and you got to get two ones in the two
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: best year. Yeah. Well, a lot of people did push
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: back on me and we're like that's not enough. I'm like,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: it's a there's a trade chart. Go look at all
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: the chart. It's literally a chart. It tells you add
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: this many points to that many point. Anyways. Uh, yeah,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: I'm not. I just want the best football player. I
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: think if you get caught up in oh, what's like
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: the best complimentary piece to this and if he needs
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: to play here and needs to play, I think that
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: that's we're getting too much into the into the weeds,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: especially for a team like the Patriots that can't draft receivers.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Just just take the best player. Do more to mote
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: myself saying be quick about it. I hate myself with
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: staying there. But if they're about up at those quarterback,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: I hope we push up. Get gun dogs the corner
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: instead of a wide receiver anything. Yeah, you get a
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: tackle and it stuck a third round, you're not pushing older. No.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: I guess mel Hiper has the Patriots getting Gonzales in
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: his latest I've seen with him, Uh getting back to
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: the email. What you got on you about you waste
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: that thing over with Brady? If they just gave Brady
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: a couple more receivers, I pushed Brady. I doing this
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: field in the wheelchair as long as you give me
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: to a super Bowl. If you de man, what do
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: you want it? I'm receivers and being good to go.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: I think I have a better three count time than
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Clinton Johnston. So let's go to Kevin and Sanfrand, what's
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: up Ken the measurables? Kevin? Kevin, Kevin? I left Mike
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: call in s he's not there? All right? Corey in
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: South Carolina? What's up? Corey? Hey? What's up you guys?
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: How are y'all doing? Good? Good? Good good? Hey? All right.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: I want to be a little bit of a voice
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: of the reason in some of this chat because I
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: think that, like specifically Evan and Paul, I think there's
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: a lot of Feature fans to agree with you, guys.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: You've got to get more playmakers with a free agency
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: the draft developing guys. I think you got to get
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: the better offensive line play. I think we were decent
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: in the run game last year, but I think that
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: pass blocking against like elite pass rush, critical downs, those
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: are rough and you've got to get better quarterback play.
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: But I kind of want to come to Max's defense
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: in two areas because I think it's a little bit overlooked.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: In one is, don't overlook the ability to scheme guys open, right,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Like you look at some of the plays last year
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: and critical downs, third downs, we just didn't have options there.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: There There wasn't a check down, There wasn't um a
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: guy that that is scheme to break through the seam
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: or to um kind of take advantage of of an
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: outside linebacker rush. And then two, actually having those guys
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: that can press the triangle, right, I know it's it's Evan.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: You talk a lot about having a guy that can
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: break it at the top or having a tall guy
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: that can can beat out guys. I think you need that.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: I think you need someone that can that can make
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: room in space, and I think you need a tight
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: end that can press the triangle and take advantage of
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: different coverages. So I totally agree with you guys. There's
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: a lot of the needs to go on, but I
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: think you got to give Mack a little bit of
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: grace in that situation last year. Press the triangle? Nice, Okay,
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: thanks Corey. Ye, you're not making fun of him for that, right,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: that's that's right out of you. Yeah. I just said
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: he knows some ball. Okay, that's right out of your
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: What does that mean for us idiots? Middle of the field?
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Like press the triangle? I give the two safeties? Right,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: you have the linebacker in the middle field, Like, who's
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: who's opening up that that middle area in his own? Yeah? Okay, yeah,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: who's who's who's opening it up for everybody? I would
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: have soccer that you work in. I would just argue
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: a lot. There's a lot of triangle reads too, and
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: progressions for quarterbacks. I don't know which direction he was
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: going with that, necessarily, what I make that that joke
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: about soccer? You make fun of me? What time it's given?
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Go set up a child? It's not that. It's not
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: that complicate. H CJ. In Kansas City? What's up to
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: you change the geometry of paying up? CJ? So are
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: you in Kansas City? Are you like right in the
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: city proper? You ever been to Grozzianos or Garrozzos Garrozzos yez? Yeah,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: good place, good place. I mean it's it's definitely one
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: of places. I so, I'm a transplant. I moved out
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: here in like Oa, but it was one of the
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: first places people told me I had to go. Yeah,
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: it's it's really good. So are you going to go
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: to the draft? Yeah? So I don't know how they
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: do the other places, but me and a co worker
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: of mine, we're gonna go. Um, we had up like
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: it's like, it's not reserved tickets, but we had to
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: put our information in to get access. I don't know
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: if that's how it works all the time or not.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: But nothing you had to pay for. Cool st still waiting. Yeah,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: we're still waiting to find out nice. Okay, So here's
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: my question, um, talking about the draft? If U and Evan,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I think I already know you're answered to this based
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: on your last show. But if Christian Gonzalez cornerback is
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: still there, say Flowers is there and Harris Johnson are
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: there for our fake and fourteen? Who are you guys taken?
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez? Yeah, that would be my pa. Do that.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I'm in I think I think it's a huge year. Yeah,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: my pick would be Gonzalez because I think that would
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: be the best corner, yeah, and I think that's a
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: harder positions stud Yeah. I think corner two just as
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: because of what we discussed, the wide receiver class just
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: like isn't as strong, and so I think that you
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: can have the opportunity to get another wide receiver later,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: but you have the opportunity to get the best corner allegedly,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: so you should get them. I think you can get
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: discount slot receive. I mean, not as good as they flowers,
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: but there are in the middle of the field later.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: It's just I just like we talked about it a lot,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: like how does this defense get over the edge? Because
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: they've been pretty good and I think it's almost like
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: they're good enough to lull you into a false sense
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: of security, saying I think the Patriots defense is pretty good.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: I mean by the numbers, they are a pretty good defense,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: but they haven't been good enough against the really good
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: teeth and they have to get over that hump. And
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: I think the A one cornerback is a big piece
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: of it. And I mean we're gonna talk about defensive
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: ents too. I think that's a whole nother you debate about,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: which is weird because I feel like doing this forever.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: Patriots fans usually are like, we need a pass rusher,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: and you just don't hear it this year, And I
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: know you got chewed on and you got to coming
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: off good seasons. And they're both back, but you know
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: one's over thirty the other center in the last year
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: of his deal. So you know there's something there too
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: that I don't think we've quite pinned down yet. The
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: Patriots of the past would not have a million holes
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: on their roster that they need to fill, so they
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: would take an edge rusher in the first round because
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: they had a whole to fill next year at that position.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: Now they are kind of in a position where they
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: don't really have that luxury anymore. But if this was
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: the Patriots ten years ago, then a guy like Nolan
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Smith or Lucas Van Nast or someone like that, it
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: would be in every mock draft who was the guy.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: I think the Texas Tech guy that they were Tyree
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: Wilson tied they would tie to today. They expressed it.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: I don't know if he's here or coming for a
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: thirty or they went to Friday, did they went to
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: watch him or whatever? But I just thought that was
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: interesting because he is I don't know, kind of considered
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: to be a top ten pick, right, So if you're
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: if you're in there, are you maybe hoping that the
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: board unfolds in a different way like we talked to
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: beginning of this show, with the quarterbacks maybe pushing some
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: good players down, or might the Patriots target a guy
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: go up again? I think it's a great question, and
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: I mean it's something I think we've been circling with
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: Evan this whole spring of like, you know, if the
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: right tackle isn't there and you don't feel great about
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Zave Flowers, you know, maybe they feel like they don't
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: even think Zave Flowers maybe is like a top twenty pick,
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: Like that's maybe right, I mean, if it's the right
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not going to bang the table for
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon. I mean, I'm not going to bang the
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: table for Joey Porter Jr. You know what the worst
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: part about this draft is, I'm not being at the
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: table for anyone. Yeah, Gonzalez, I would be. It's not
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: because I don't think they are good players in this draft.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: It's just that, like there's after you get through the
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: first so many holes. I'm not banging the table just
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: for one of them to get filled. Like, I think
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: they have options. I think you can make a case
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: for a lot of guys. Yeah, I think they'll fill
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: a hole with whoever they take. Patty and Agawam chimes in.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: He says about Bill's draft, He says, Bill took touchdown
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: Tommy Vardell with the ninth pick in the ninety two draft.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Hopefully Bill has evolved a tad since then. Something to
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: mull Over. I don't know if he has Tommy Vardell,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: but remember that how bitter he is. Time comes to
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Bill always. Yeah, the roster building in the last three
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: or four years, it's just lost them. Sorry, the track
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: record speaks for itself. I'm only going off the receipts
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: like I can't. I can't change what he's done. But
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: Tyree Wilson's a nice interesting player because he's not that
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: like Screamer Von Miller, Bendy edge rusher that a lot
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: of teams want to take in the top ten, like
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: a Will Anderson type. So he is somebody that the
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: league might jim nage, the league might be a little
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: bit lower on than some of the mock drafts are
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: because he doesn't have that prototypical double digit sack guy game.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: But at the same time, if you're the Patriots like
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Josh Jay, Judean, Barmore, Tyree Wilson, I think all those
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: guys can be on the field for you at the
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: same time, and that that becomes a front. That's that's
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: a problems, not that it isn't already, But I'm wondering
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: back to the owners meetings when we were talking to
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: mister Craft, how important he said this draft was going
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: to be, if he's gonna have potentially a larger state
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: than he usually would in terms of like what and
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: who we draft um, because he said, like you essentially
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: like build your success base off this draft, and we
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: haven't drafted well. So I'm wondering if he nudge and
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: ensure that we do draft well with the picks that
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: we have. Well, I'm sure he's, you know, telling them
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: you got to do a good job. The question is,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: I don't think Robert's going to be in the room saying, oh,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: let's pick say Flowers, but I think he might if
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: there's an influence that he's going to have. It's telling
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Bill listen to Matt grow more. Yeah, maybe maybe, I
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: don't know. I got. Can I make one more point
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: about it? Sorry? Maybe do we have faith in that?
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: Because it's just made. I don't mean to no, I
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: actually don't attack me. I actually don't think that. The
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: influence that I want mister Kraft to have is not
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: to tell him to listen to Macro. The influence that
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: I want mister Kraft to have is can we not
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: pick cole Strange in the first round? Like? How do
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: you do that? You know? Conventional? Can we stick it? Well? Yeah,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: on the fairway. But I think let's let's have our
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: saying stack our board and let's what's state. Well, what
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: I'm saying is I think, you know, I we're spending
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: all this money on our scouts. Let's listen to our scout. Okay,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: so I would. It's the old thing he had with Parcel.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: It's always dangerous to do this, but I'm gonna do
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: it anyway. Do you really think that Cole Strange was
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: one of their top twenty rated prospects last year? The Patriots? Yeah,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: he can't be. I just can't imagine. It was so
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: like Van's point. If Robert, Robert's not saying, hey, listen,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: I really really like this a Flowers kid man. I mean,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: I think his three kids like, no, he's not doing that, okay,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: but he can't say can we just establish a board
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: and reasonably stick to it? Because I think they veered
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: wildly with Cole Strange last year. Now I don't know that. Yeah,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: for all I know, we had this. We had him
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: as our twenty first rated prospect and everybody else had
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: him at one hundred and twenty one. I don't know
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: that might be true. I just it just screamed of
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: need last I think they're desperate, panicked and jumped off
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: his board, and I think that's when you get in trouble.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: I just can you not have the defending Super Bowl
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: champions laughing at you on the night of the draft, Like,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: can we just make a pick that it doesn't have
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: to be Zay Fly? It doesn't have to be the
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: guy we're all talking about, right? Like? I think that's
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: one thing that I did the mail bag this week
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: and a lot of people asked me, like, what's the
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: who's the guy that nobody's talking about? Because we know
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Bill and he's gonna take some tell you, when I
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: get my book, he's gonna take a lot of first
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: round picks that I think no one's talking about, like
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: but their first round picks exactly. That was a fourth
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: round pick that no one was talking about. Right, Can
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: we just take somebody at fourteen that all of us
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: on our shows, mel kiper Daniel Jeremiah is like, yeah,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: that you know that he was right in that range.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: You know we had him. I had him at at
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: sixteen on my big board, So big whoop that they
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: took him two spots earlier than I had him or something.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: Just one's going to argue that, right, Just get somebody
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: that is a brand name. That's it. That's what I've
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: been saying all offseason. I don't want any like off
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: brand Dollar Store. I need like a premium player. Pick
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: a premium player picks. It's very I doesn't want a
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: brand name. Would be if they if they got Handon
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: Hooker at some point, I would be so excited. So yes,
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: and back to that, I do think that if they
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: are going to, you know, pick a third quarterback to
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: be on this team, I wanted to be someone with
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: a different skill set than what we already have. So
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: whether it's Hendon Hooker or dtr who we were able
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: to see an East West Shrine Bowl and the Patriots
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: had a chance to talk to him. Whether it's someone
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: with their skill set and their playmaking ability. I feel
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: like that would be a good fit for the third
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: spot in the quarterback ground. Yeah quick, who am I?
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: Game ready? These are all former Patriots? Who am I?
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: I was a hard hitting linebacker that won two national
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: titles in college. Dante Higtower incorrect, handycats and Moore you're out,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: You're out. You're both to win us didn't guess? I contributed?
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: I contributed. I contributed my rookie year, playing a long
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: alongside Drawdmeo and Rob Ninkovich. This is not Dante Hytower. Nope,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: I contributed my rookie No, no guesses one more, Gary Cuton. No,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: you're out. It's up to Tamara. I had two stints
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: with both the Patriots and the Bills before retiring. Oh
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: do you watch videos on the internet? Now? Definitely? Person?
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: Where is this going? Where is this going? Brandon Spikes? Yeah,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: you won two national championships at Florida. I guess good one, um,
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: next one. I signed with New England before my fifth
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: year as wide receiver in the league. I signed with
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: New England before my fifth year No. One. I was
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: a reliable target for Brady during the team's three Super
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Bowl runs in four years. David pad correct deuce alright
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: was looking at the right, uh next one two more.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: I was a pass catching running back for the Patriots
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: and routinely put up thirty to forty catch seasons as
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: a player former Patriot. I spent my entire career as
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: a Patriot. N Kevin fok last one. This one's worth
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: three thirty to forty said, it's a uh final, This
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: is the bonus. I was a backup to Drew Bledsoe
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: and spent majority of my career as a Patriot before
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: going to Florida to finish my playing career. Seriously, you
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: know what. Seriously, this is like a joke. Okay, but
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: didn't make a guess. I feel like I knew who
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: it is saying maybe the one person I know who
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: it is. I don't want to get it wrong because
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I think everyone's gonna get it in the next one.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: But anyway, I have I have been a part of
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: the team's Super Bowl success and a few losses. Said
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: so lack. Yes, I think I think I was gonna
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: say so after the first one. I was too obvious.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: I went out. I wasn't get the Florida thing. What
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: does that mean he went to Miami. Oh, I'm just thinking,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: like he went to Florida like he retired. I didn't.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: I didn't get it. I mean it's Miami generally it
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: is in Florida. Was Tampa Bay? I know a different team?
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Well that's you don't want to just say it? Then?
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: I think it was well worded, like being part of
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: he was part of in the broadcasting booth, you know,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: boy just pooh pooing it? No, I just does that
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: make it work? Hey? A lot of people in this
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: room have Super Bowl rings, right, Like if you if
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: you're in the broadcast booth and you're part of it,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: then I guess Fred and Paul were part of it too.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: If you're in part of the pregame show, I think
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: you're part of it. Yeah. But oh wow, thanks, let's Ken,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: Caleb and Knoxville. Right. Um. He says. My viewpoint on
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: the season last year was Bill knew last year there
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: was absolutely no way they would have a shot at contending,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: and there was nobody better to get at Offensive Coiner
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: than waiting a year for Bill O'Brien to become available
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: and the head coach should have been fired after meeting
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: with him in Sabin last offseason. Bill will never tank
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: or throw a season, but I truly believe last year.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: But I truly believe last season was a product of
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: Bill setting things up for a longer term plan than
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: just the twenty twenty two season. I believe he hasn't
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: been vocal about Patricia and Judge doing bad jobs because
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: ultimately Bill knew they were put in positions to fail
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: all for the betterment of the team years down the line.
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: Not saying that ideology is right or wrong, just the
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: only thing that makes sense to me based on Bill's
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: track record, like he's seventy years old. Like it's just
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: And I think this gets to the heart of the
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: matter of like where's the urgency, Like you don't really
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: like nobody's going to be upset in seven or eight
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: years from now when you've been out of the league
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: for four years and the team stinks, like they just
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: loved you to see you go all in and take
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: advantage of what people have come to believe, you know,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: is the greatest coach of all time. And that's that
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: lack of urgency. I think it just permeates the last
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: three seasons, and I don't. I don't get it. I don't.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: It's like it's like somebody who's coaching like they're gonna
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: coach forever. Mister Kraft made that clear when we were
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: in Arizona that he is looking to see a change
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: this season, like playoffs, playoffs, not in a couple of years.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: Last year was to win playoff games. This year it
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: was just to make the playoffs. Do you think this
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: year he does think he's going to coach forever, like
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: not forever, but like you know, like like he's he's
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: he's wired that way to think that he may. I
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: don't think he thinks he's done anytime soon. Yeah, right,
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: So maybe in his head, like we're all saying, oh, well,
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: how many more years is a seven year old coach?
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Half maybe he's like ten Like I and I think Evin,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: I think that part of his philosophy, which I really
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: like generally as a philosophy, is just focusing on the immediate,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: immediate right now, you know, And I think like that
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: almost might be maybe part of the problem at the
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: end here is that you've been so dedicated to not
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: worrying about, you know, the next couple of years or
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: how things are falling into place. You're just methodically building
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: a team like you always have that you're gonna miss out.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: Maybe we all have it wrong and he we got
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: the wrong record that he's after. Maybe he's going after
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: the oldest coach ever in the NFL record. That's a
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: great reason. I'm not going to get that. I'm only
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: kidding at and you don't have to get so serious.
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: But what was Levi? Huh was it Levi? Who was
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: the oldest? I don't know, Mar, we should find that out. Probably,
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: what do you think the number is? Like, what's the
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: age of the oldest coach ever in the NFL? Seventy four?
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: I'm saying eighty two. I was going to say eighty two,
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: eighty zero? Dous a look it up. Meanwhile, I'll read
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: Drew and Bradford's email. When the Patriots drafted fifteenth overall,
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: there was already the question in the media whether Bill
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: really thought Mac was their guy because the Patriots didn't
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: trade up to get him. Was the value for a
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: consensus first round caliber quarterback at pick fifteen was too
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: much to pass on? During the draft, there was a
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: lot of reports Bill wanted the guard Elijah Vera Tucker,
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: but the Jets drafted him before the Patriots pick. With
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: the significant differences in Robert Crafts and Bill's comments towards
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: macdus offseason, combined with Bill's refusal to Backmack at any
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: point in time, do you think it is possible that
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: Bill got a director from above that they needed to
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: draft a rookie quarterback in the twenty twenty one draft
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: if one was still available. No, yeah, I don't. I
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: don't know. I don't think so. I think there was.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: I mean, there's definitely everything he said is definitely like
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: sort of out there as potential factors and why they
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: took him in and whatnot, and the fact that they
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: were they needed a quarterback clearly and they would contently
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: just wait it out and whatever one was there they
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: were going to take. So a lot of people were like, well,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: they didn't love him because of that. The rest of it,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: who knows for sure. So I got the list of
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: the oldest coaches NFL history. It's actually pretty interesting. Um
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: the coach, the coach who coached at the oldest ages.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: We should probably do a trivia for it. Because he
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: was a fairly prominent Patriots coach recently, like within the
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: last twenty years he coached. I don't want to give
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: any more away. Well to say it, well, Romeo Cornell
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: coached it at seventy three was when he filled in,
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: I guess for the Texans. Seventy three was the oldest
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: before that. There's no coach and the coaches that have
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: coached over seventy or Gunther Cunningham coach to seventy, Alexanders
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: coach to seventy one, Marv Levus seventy two, George Hallis
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: was seventy two, four wins, Hollis was seventy two. He
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: coached for forty seven. I'm surprised that it wasn't higher
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: than that. Yeah, and now I know he's going for
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: that record oldest coach well, and he's got it. I
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: don't know when the last posted, but it was one.
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: Bill was sixty nine, so I guess that's the last year.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: But he was at forty five years at that point.
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: So I mean it just in terms of coaching longevity,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: Hollis coach forty seven years and Bill will I guess
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: would be forty seven this year. So holbready years did
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: uh Shuler coach, not on the list, not on the
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: top ten. Arians got on it at sixteen shorter. Some
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: might say, you guys are the worst. Wait, he said,
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Arians was what? Uh just? I mean? He was sixty
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: nine but twenty five years acted well? All right, good
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: ending to the show. All right, we'll be bad Thursday
