Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Daily.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We're the best slate of the NFL season, delivered in
- 0:10Speaker 2: Week fourteen. I'm here in the Chris Wesleyan podcast studio.
- 0:13Speaker 2: My name is Greg Rosenthal, and I'm with my caffeinated
- 0:17Speaker 2: friend Patrick Claybond in my other I don't know if
- 0:20Speaker 2: you're caffeinated.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Or not, friend, Jordan rod Rieg. It happened.
- 0:23Speaker 2: We came into this week on the schedule. Five monster
- 0:28Speaker 2: games on the slate for Division lead, playoff lead, another
- 0:32Speaker 2: game that was Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, and we're
- 0:35Speaker 2: gonna hit all those games in this very recap and
- 0:40Speaker 2: it's gonna lead to a great.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Money I am caffeinated also, and we're.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Gonna We're just gonna get right to it today. I
- 0:46Speaker 1: don't want to know it. I honestly don't want to
- 0:48Speaker 1: mess around.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We'll be wrapping up the show with the big Sunday
- 0:51Speaker 2: night game Texans Chiefs. But I think there's only one
- 0:53Speaker 2: place we can start today, and that is at lambeau Field.
- 0:56Speaker 4: They get motioned to the tight end of the right
- 0:58Speaker 4: take the switch, but you left Williams looking to floats
- 1:01Speaker 4: the end on the tenor secon sceptception. Ala and in
- 1:06Speaker 4: oception by Kashawan Nexon Panzer, is your dagger been a
- 1:13Speaker 4: Lambeau leaf to the south end zone? Stands twenty two
- 1:17Speaker 4: seconds ago? Then the Packers hung on.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Oh they wanted it, and they got it. A late
- 1:25Speaker 2: takeaway by Keishawn Nixon. So many big defensive plays this year.
- 1:29Speaker 2: By that very cornerback stopped a Bears drive. Packers hold
- 1:35Speaker 2: on twenty eight to twenty one. Caleb Williams has a
- 1:42Speaker 2: play call which they ran very similar to the Bears
- 1:46Speaker 2: game just a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:47Speaker 1: They hit that for a touchdown. He's late on the throw.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It doesn't work out in this game, and the Packers
- 1:53Speaker 2: defense holds on and takes over first place of the
- 1:55Speaker 2: NFC North.
- 1:56Speaker 5: And it's Keishaw Nixon who was benched for like a
- 1:59Speaker 5: couple of earlier in the game because he was on
- 2:02Speaker 5: the brunt end of a Matt lafleur rage burst because
- 2:05Speaker 5: of an unnecessary roughness penalty. This game was nuts because
- 2:11Speaker 5: the Bears had a chance to come down the field
- 2:13Speaker 5: and at least you're thinking about tying it, but it's
- 2:16Speaker 5: Ben Johnson and he had already gone for a couple
- 2:19Speaker 5: of like sort of fu plays earlier in the game,
- 2:21Speaker 5: including the most demoralizing third and long screen you'll ever see,
- 2:26Speaker 5: and you had to think Ben Johnson's going for two
- 2:29Speaker 5: if they score here.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah, the strategy at the end of the game, we
- 2:33Speaker 2: can start there was interesting because Ben Johnson essentially chose
- 2:38Speaker 2: to run the clock on himself before that play, and
- 2:42Speaker 2: Matt Lafleur was okay with it. And I think it
- 2:45Speaker 2: could have cost the Bears because if they had gotten
- 2:47Speaker 2: first down on that play, then they wouldn't have had
- 2:50Speaker 2: as many plays to try to go win the game.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But maybe he knew they were going for the win
- 2:56Speaker 2: that whole time. Everything is setting up for that play call.
- 2:59Speaker 2: That's dangerous. Then again, I think he made a great
- 3:00Speaker 2: play call because Caleb Williams needs to throw that ball quicker.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Yeah, you can throw the ball quicker. And also it's
- 3:05Speaker 6: a tough play, but we've seen Caleb make these types
- 3:08Speaker 6: of plays. Because Dj Moore was coming open late as
- 3:11Speaker 6: everybody crashed in on Caleb, where he could flip that
- 3:13Speaker 6: over the linebacker and hit him at the very least
- 3:15Speaker 6: get the first down. But you need the touchdown at
- 3:18Speaker 6: that point because you're thinking, and I'm sure because we
- 3:21Speaker 6: were having a discussion in the newsroom. Do you get
- 3:23Speaker 6: the touchdown late, try to get the two point conversion,
- 3:26Speaker 6: get out of here on the road with a win.
- 3:28Speaker 6: But all that goes away when you start the play
- 3:31Speaker 6: sequence with a minute and thirty one seconds and then
- 3:34Speaker 6: you're thinking clock not necessarily first down, and you're in
- 3:38Speaker 6: a gotta have it situation on fourth down with under
- 3:41Speaker 6: forty five seconds to go.
- 3:42Speaker 7: It was so different just a few minutes before that.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's too bad because I think Caleb Williams played a
- 3:47Speaker 2: really good second half. Obviously, their offense was running the
- 3:49Speaker 2: ball really well. They went touchdown, field goal, touchdown before
- 3:52Speaker 2: getting down inside the red zone at the end. But
- 3:56Speaker 2: when you saw the angle comets open, he's pretty wide
- 3:59Speaker 2: open right away where it's like a quick decision throw.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And that's the push and poll with Caleb Williams, who
- 4:04Speaker 2: I think is playing well. He has a lot of
- 4:06Speaker 2: holy hell, that's amazing plays, But you look at his
- 4:09Speaker 2: time to throw today, it's like three point four And
- 4:11Speaker 2: that was maybe the difference between him and Jordan Love.
- 4:14Speaker 1: On a day where Jordan Love looked like a veteran.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Jordan Love looked awesome, and he's got a number one receiver. Guys,
- 4:19Speaker 5: Christian Watson had two touchdowns in this game. I want
- 4:23Speaker 5: us to listen to the first one because it just
- 4:24Speaker 5: was a great moment, just the daintiest of placement. Snowflake
- 4:28Speaker 5: football placed it right into his gloves for a touchdown
- 4:32Speaker 5: as lightly as a snowflake falling.
- 4:34Speaker 8: Here's here's the snap blitz on they pick it up,
- 4:38Speaker 8: initially bluffs the middle, come.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Watson touchdown, praying by Packers. Christian Watson took it away,
- 4:47Speaker 4: say Keevin byrd. Come up, Packers strike first twenty three
- 4:52Speaker 4: yard touchdown pass.
- 4:55Speaker 5: I love that play so much, not only because it
- 4:58Speaker 5: gave Packers fans the Lambeau Leap that they just jonesing
- 5:00Speaker 5: for the entire time.
- 5:02Speaker 3: And what a cool environment too.
- 5:04Speaker 5: It didn't quite snow flurry it did in the morning earlier,
- 5:07Speaker 5: and fans helped shovel the stands and the field gut
- 5:10Speaker 5: gets cleared and it feels like ten degrees for most
- 5:12Speaker 5: of the game according to the broadcast. And that's Christian Watson.
- 5:16Speaker 5: That was his fourth touchdown in four games. He went
- 5:19Speaker 5: on to score a fifth touchdown in the same game
- 5:21Speaker 5: off a really pretty little man beater that Matt Lafleur
- 5:24Speaker 5: designed up and Jordan Love just had no fear like
- 5:28Speaker 5: we like were used to him playing at his very
- 5:31Speaker 5: best at his quarterback island. That yeah, right, because this
- 5:35Speaker 5: was Jordan Love the first touchdown. He's got seven defenders
- 5:39Speaker 5: pressuring him. And first of all, don't don't blitz Jordan Love.
- 5:42Speaker 5: He's gonna do great things. He's got great pressure readers,
- 5:45Speaker 5: he's got a great offensive line, he's got great outlets,
- 5:47Speaker 5: and he's got great scheme. So perhaps, perchance do not
- 5:50Speaker 5: blitz him. And the Bears backed off on that second.
- 5:52Speaker 5: They were in man de man.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Across across the stack and across the field.
- 5:56Speaker 5: And then the Packers adjusted again to get Christian Watson
- 6:00Speaker 5: these opportunities, and you know, it was a really really
- 6:04Speaker 5: well called game from both sides. But I give Matt
- 6:06Speaker 5: Lafleur the edge in this one because they went run
- 6:08Speaker 5: past and especially run when they needed to the most.
- 6:11Speaker 6: And so Dennis Allen, whose defense has looked really good
- 6:14Speaker 6: in these past couple of weeks, where they were in
- 6:18Speaker 6: bend and then break your heart mode, and then they
- 6:20Speaker 6: were just full on break your heart mode, locking everybody down.
- 6:23Speaker 6: They get in that Christian Watson touchdown that first Christan
- 6:25Speaker 6: wathingon touchdown. They have him third and ten and a
- 6:28Speaker 6: chance to get off the field, and they send the
- 6:31Speaker 6: Blitz against the blitz. Jordan Love was eight of eleven
- 6:34Speaker 6: with two touchdowns and the passer rating of one hundred
- 6:36Speaker 6: and fifty.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Here's the thing, now, leave ten alone.
- 6:39Speaker 2: It comes down to players, though, and the Bears just
- 6:42Speaker 2: don't have a pass rush. They are hurt either way,
- 6:46Speaker 2: like on the second touchdown, which to me is just
- 6:48Speaker 2: the perfect Jordan Love throw because no one can throw
- 6:51Speaker 2: it that far with that ease. Yeah, to put the
- 6:54Speaker 2: ball on the air under it, and Jalen Johnson kind
- 6:57Speaker 2: of you know, his eyes are bad on that they're
- 7:00Speaker 2: in zone on that play and he allows the defender
- 7:04Speaker 2: to get you know, behind him, and everything in Brisker
- 7:06Speaker 2: tries to make up for it. Once again, I think
- 7:07Speaker 2: Tom Brady's getting a little better. He was pointing that out,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and I just love how these two teams are so different,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and we saw in tough conditions that this style of
- 7:16Speaker 2: Packers can work. Because Josh Jacobs finished out the game
- 7:19Speaker 2: well and was a big reason they won, but ultimately
- 7:21Speaker 2: you got Jordan Love throwing twelve point one yards average
- 7:27Speaker 2: up the target in this game bombs away compared to
- 7:30Speaker 2: a Bears team, which has a sixty percent success rate
- 7:33Speaker 2: which runs the ball down. The Packers throat really took
- 7:36Speaker 2: over the line of scrimmage in the second half of
- 7:38Speaker 2: this game one hundred, but they didn't have one hundred
- 7:40Speaker 2: and thirty eight yards. They didn't have a single run
- 7:42Speaker 2: over ten yards this whole game. So it's all just
- 7:44Speaker 2: like five and four and six and patients and those
- 7:47Speaker 2: two styles made a great fight, and we're gonna get
- 7:49Speaker 2: to see another one in a couple weeks, I know,
- 7:51Speaker 2: and I.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Loved it, and I wonder if it almost flips the
- 7:53Speaker 5: next time around, because each team will perhaps try to
- 7:56Speaker 5: do the opposite thing of what they just did.
- 7:59Speaker 3: The Bears often of line. I don't think we have
- 8:04Speaker 3: to continue to give them their.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Flowers for the way that they can just choose to
- 8:09Speaker 5: run the ball in a deficit in adverse moments. They
- 8:13Speaker 5: put together a seventeen play eighty three yard scoring drive
- 8:16Speaker 5: that took over eight minutes off the clock. And I
- 8:19Speaker 5: mentioned that screen when you're running it like that and
- 8:22Speaker 5: your offensive linemen are feeling space the way that the
- 8:25Speaker 5: Bears offensive linemen were and you're Ben Johnson and you
- 8:29Speaker 5: got a little mean streak in you. What are you
- 8:31Speaker 5: gonna do on third and very long? But run the
- 8:35Speaker 5: most mean spirited bullying screen that just it and it
- 8:41Speaker 5: sets up at the touchdown and it's twenty one to
- 8:44Speaker 5: twenty one at that point. But then Josh Jacob says, okay, guys,
- 8:47Speaker 5: hold my frozen beer. I'm gonna run the ball down
- 8:50Speaker 5: your throats. He cuts on a like blade of grass,
- 8:53Speaker 5: a frozen tundra grass on third and two and picks
- 8:56Speaker 5: up twenty one and sets up his own touchdown.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I mean, it was just these teams.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I love this game. I know you can't tell you
- 9:03Speaker 2: mentioned the physicality. You know, if if you're watching us
- 9:06Speaker 2: on YouTube, we love you, like subscribe to the episode.
- 9:09Speaker 2: There's a play where Manung guy and Edger and Cooper collide.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Just a massive hit from Cooper in the second quarter
- 9:16Speaker 2: of this game, and you see the helmet fly off
- 9:19Speaker 2: Manung guys like like a people to help. It is
- 9:25Speaker 2: absolutely ridiculous. And that is like the type of hit
- 9:27Speaker 2: and hitten. This is some real menly men football. And
- 9:32Speaker 2: we ended with yea, we ended with like a very
- 9:40Speaker 2: handshake at the end. So I think it was like
- 9:41Speaker 2: a perfect combination. Matt Lefflair would just run rain.
- 9:45Speaker 3: It was the range of society, you know it was.
- 9:48Speaker 2: It was Matt Lafleair just doing a drive by on
- 9:52Speaker 2: that handshake. I love it because we we should have
- 9:55Speaker 2: set it up during the week.
- 9:56Speaker 5: You know.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Ben Johnson had those quotes that he can't wait to
- 9:59Speaker 2: he's really enjoyed over the years beating Matt Leaflair. Choice, Well,
- 10:01Speaker 2: he's not gonna beat him twice this year, Patrick and
- 10:05Speaker 2: they tried harder.
- 10:05Speaker 6: Mat Lafleur remembered and that's why he ran fifty seven
- 10:08Speaker 6: yards across the field to give a quick handshake that
- 10:11Speaker 6: he would love talking about after the game.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted to say what Laflair said. He said,
- 10:16Speaker 2: he said it was a quick handshake and we'll see
- 10:18Speaker 2: them again in two weeks. I think there are no
- 10:21Speaker 2: good losses and we do got to move on. But
- 10:25Speaker 2: I think the Bears coming back in this game, their
- 10:28Speaker 2: run game traveling that it was this tight, that like,
- 10:32Speaker 2: these two teams look pretty even to me, it's not
- 10:34Speaker 2: a good loss, but they keep passing tests and to me,
- 10:38Speaker 2: I don't think any differently. About the Bears, even though
- 10:41Speaker 2: they fell from the one seed to the seventh seed.
- 10:43Speaker 2: The NFC is bananas right now with one loss, they
- 10:45Speaker 2: fell from one to seven and not that anyone cares.
- 10:48Speaker 5: But behind the Texans, this Packers defense is my favorite
- 10:51Speaker 5: defense to watch in the NFL. Carl Brooks made a
- 10:54Speaker 5: play tonight if a trick handoff to DJ Moore where
- 10:57Speaker 5: if you go back and watch it in slow motion,
- 10:59Speaker 5: you can see him Reid react, diagnosed, adjust his massive
- 11:03Speaker 5: body to change his direction in but a millisecond and
- 11:10Speaker 5: make the play the tackle behind the line of scrimmage.
- 11:13Speaker 5: That's this entire Packers defense. Smart, physical, well coached, aggressive,
- 11:17Speaker 5: special and people will.
- 11:19Speaker 7: Of course criticize Caleb on that final play.
- 11:21Speaker 6: The Packers were all over that play call because it
- 11:24Speaker 6: wasn't the exact same formation, but the execution and the
- 11:26Speaker 6: where the receivers ended up ended up being the same
- 11:29Speaker 6: place that they hit the touchdown to Philadelphia, and folks
- 11:33Speaker 6: thinking that Caleb should have run Edwin Cooper had the
- 11:35Speaker 6: corner on him.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh, but he should have thrown it right away.
- 11:38Speaker 7: Yeah, he should have thrown it fast.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Yeah, But if you're thinking Caleb could have got to
- 11:41Speaker 6: the line again fifty six was there.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and we learned a few things just about you know,
- 11:45Speaker 2: how they're going to use players. Jayden Reid was back
- 11:47Speaker 2: in this game and made a difference. That was good
- 11:49Speaker 2: to see. Four catches thirty one yards. Bo Melton played
- 11:52Speaker 2: more on offense than Marcus Golden and who else is
- 11:57Speaker 2: and don Tavian Wick, so that was interesting.
- 11:59Speaker 1: The person to nel usage.
- 12:00Speaker 2: And yes, only one of these teams has Michael Parsons
- 12:03Speaker 2: eight pressures in this game, the same amount as the
- 12:06Speaker 2: entire Bears team combined, so big win.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Monster holes against him.
- 12:14Speaker 5: By the way, HST fans, don't freak out, geez that
- 12:17Speaker 5: that arm He had an arm wrapped around his neck
- 12:20Speaker 5: on the last two scramble plays.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yes, I mean, my goodness, guys, what are we doing?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Laflair complained a bit afterwards, saying, I don't know what
- 12:27Speaker 2: a hold is anymore, but I know what a first
- 12:29Speaker 2: place team looks like. It looks like the Green Bay Packer.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So the first place was decided in one North division.
- 12:34Speaker 2: It was also decided for now in Baltimore.
- 12:39Speaker 9: Clark and Ramsey back inside their own fifteen yard line
- 12:43Speaker 9: and even retreating as the ball snapped in Lamar Jackson
- 12:46Speaker 9: rush coming from the backside, He's hit.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Take it down.
- 12:49Speaker 10: It's high Smith with the sack back.
- 12:52Speaker 8: In the thirty eight yard line, and that will do it.
- 12:56Speaker 10: The Steelers come to him and T Bank Stadium and
- 13:00Speaker 10: win twenty seven to twenty two, and they are back
- 13:03Speaker 10: in first place by themselves in the AFC nord.
- 13:08Speaker 2: M fitting ending there, great call by Rob King on WDV.
- 13:13Speaker 2: The Steelers survive twenty seven to twenty two against the Ravens,
- 13:19Speaker 2: and I say that it was fitting Patrick because I
- 13:23Speaker 2: think Lamar Jackson in this offense needed to turn back
- 13:26Speaker 2: into the old Ravens offense to get out of there
- 13:29Speaker 2: with a win, and for a while looked like they
- 13:32Speaker 2: were gonna do it. They finished the second quarter with
- 13:34Speaker 2: a touchdown drive. They driving throughout the second half, but
- 13:38Speaker 2: they can't finish the drives, whether it was officials getting
- 13:42Speaker 2: in their way, or their running game getting in their way,
- 13:45Speaker 2: or in that case Lamar Jackson holding the ball too
- 13:49Speaker 2: long and not operating a two minute drill very well
- 13:51Speaker 2: getting in their way. There were flashes from this Ravens
- 13:56Speaker 2: offense of looking special again, but ultimately it was a
- 14:00Speaker 2: pretty balanced effort by a game Steelers team. I'm giving
- 14:04Speaker 2: them a lot of credit for pulling out this game
- 14:06Speaker 2: in Baltimore, a game that we did not expect would
- 14:09Speaker 2: go this way.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Yeah, we got.
- 14:10Speaker 6: We got to go back a few weeks to week
- 14:12Speaker 6: eight for a Aaron Rodgers completion with ten or more
- 14:15Speaker 6: air yards and they get it against a defense that's kind.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Of They got three over twenty in this game.
- 14:21Speaker 6: That's just well right there, defense that struggled to make
- 14:24Speaker 6: plays on the ball late. You know, the last play
- 14:27Speaker 6: of the game, the Ravens are in a hail Mary situation.
- 14:30Speaker 6: They're in twelve personnel. Lamar's holding the ball. Nobody's at
- 14:33Speaker 6: the ten yard line even yet, because you got you
- 14:35Speaker 6: got two tight ends on the field and you know
- 14:38Speaker 6: he's waiting, he's holding the ball too long, which was,
- 14:40Speaker 6: as you pointed out, the curse of the last drout.
- 14:43Speaker 6: But it's difficult to look away from the game because clearly,
- 14:46Speaker 6: you know there's stripes involved every single pay and you'd
- 14:48Speaker 6: like to make the plays.
- 14:50Speaker 7: But there are a couple of key ones in this
- 14:52Speaker 7: game that have you have you questioning the way things
- 14:55Speaker 7: go in the book.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So there was an unnecessary roughness call on a Steelers
- 15:00Speaker 2: field goal, which was very confusing and led to the
- 15:04Speaker 2: Steelers scoring a touchdown, and that that was one play
- 15:09Speaker 2: that was just a curious call it happened. Also, there's
- 15:11Speaker 2: no rule that the Ravens defense just has to lay
- 15:13Speaker 2: lay down and give up a touchdown there. The Steelers
- 15:15Speaker 2: offense did a good jock similar to how the end
- 15:19Speaker 2: of the game played out. And yes, the Isaiah likely
- 15:22Speaker 2: overturned touchdown with under three minutes to go is one
- 15:26Speaker 2: of the most controversial calls to me of the season.
- 15:28Speaker 2: It's first and ten, there's about two minutes and forty
- 15:30Speaker 2: three seconds left to go. The Ravens are coming from behind,
- 15:34Speaker 2: they're down five points at this point, and it looks
- 15:37Speaker 2: like they take the lead and Likely catches the ball.
- 15:40Speaker 2: He takes two steps, maybe he got the third down,
- 15:44Speaker 2: maybe he didn't, but the ball gets poked out there
- 15:48Speaker 2: and they decide upon review to overturn the touchdown. After
- 15:53Speaker 2: the game, the NFL did release a statement the pool report,
- 15:57Speaker 2: and they said he did not get his third step down.
- 16:00Speaker 2: And the problem I have with that is it's so
- 16:03Speaker 2: close and you're supposed to have clear and obvious evidence
- 16:09Speaker 2: to overturn the call. And that's my problem with it,
- 16:12Speaker 2: like if they had called that on the field, it's
- 16:14Speaker 2: a bang bang play.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Mistakes are going to happen. I do not understand them
- 16:19Speaker 1: overturning that call. This is crazy.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks too close to make an actual decision
- 16:26Speaker 5: on it for me. And you know you kind of
- 16:28Speaker 5: got to be Greg Olsen to get that one.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I guess. Oh wow, she did it.
- 16:32Speaker 7: She loved it.
- 16:33Speaker 2: She said it in the news German.
- 16:34Speaker 7: She said it again because it's a great line.
- 16:38Speaker 1: It's an amazing line.
- 16:39Speaker 6: There was also the play where Aaron Rodgers had a
- 16:41Speaker 6: ball tip back and he catches it. They give Aaron
- 16:43Speaker 6: Rodgers credit yes for catching well, okay, and having his
- 16:46Speaker 6: knees on the ground, which I'm wondering, do you need
- 16:48Speaker 6: to make a football move when you have knees.
- 16:49Speaker 1: On the ground or is you don't? The play was over.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I think that was the right call.
- 16:52Speaker 7: Give you a possion of the ends on the place.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think that was the right call.
- 16:55Speaker 5: The ruling on from the league about like anatomy in general,
- 16:58Speaker 5: because one he equals to feet but three feet does not.
- 17:02Speaker 5: I mean, I just I sneed a little bit more
- 17:04Speaker 5: like body part clarity. I think from the league off.
- 17:07Speaker 2: A lot is going on here, and yet I don't
- 17:09Speaker 2: want it to get lost. The Aaron Rodgers played his
- 17:12Speaker 2: best game of the season, go front to back. They
- 17:15Speaker 2: and this is why this game was tough to have,
- 17:17Speaker 2: like one big takeaway, because I think the Ravens defense
- 17:21Speaker 2: and their miscommunication and their total lack of a pass
- 17:24Speaker 2: rush and them getting dominated frankly by the Steelers offense
- 17:29Speaker 2: for three quarters of this game is the biggest reason
- 17:32Speaker 2: I believe that they lost. Then again, they did get
- 17:34Speaker 2: three and outs in the fourth quarter and like set
- 17:35Speaker 2: up the Ravens with a chance to get this comeback.
- 17:38Speaker 2: But it was twenty seven points on only six drives.
- 17:42Speaker 2: That's three touchdowns, two field goals, and one punt. And
- 17:47Speaker 2: they did not get a quarterback hit in this game.
- 17:49Speaker 2: They did not get a sack on the old round
- 17:51Speaker 2: in the NFL podcast that's called the Goalston. They had
- 17:54Speaker 2: a Goalston in this game, and they couldn't get pressure
- 17:57Speaker 2: when they didn't send anyone, and then when they did
- 18:00Speaker 2: actually they were on the Steelers were on their third
- 18:02Speaker 2: left tackle because they lost their left tackle. They also
- 18:05Speaker 2: lost Darnault Washington to a concussion, and you see the
- 18:09Speaker 2: Ravens kind of like see blood in the water and
- 18:11Speaker 2: they send the house. They go empty against Aaron Rodgers
- 18:14Speaker 2: on a third and long and they don't get anywhere
- 18:18Speaker 2: near him and he hits Calvin Austin down the field.
- 18:21Speaker 2: DK Metcalf goes for seven to one forty eight, and
- 18:24Speaker 2: so yeah, like they definitely got a good whistle. I'm
- 18:28Speaker 2: not particularly confident that the Ravens defense would have gotten
- 18:31Speaker 2: a stop if they called that a touchdown anyway. So
- 18:33Speaker 2: I just think there's a lot that the Ravens and
- 18:36Speaker 2: their fans I'm sure should be upset about with when
- 18:39Speaker 2: it comes to the Ravens too, because it's just a
- 18:41Speaker 2: team that is not playing well enough right now.
- 18:42Speaker 6: And the unfortunate thing about all those things, if the
- 18:45Speaker 6: Ravens had purely played this well over the past couple
- 18:49Speaker 6: of weeks, this might not have They wouldn't be in
- 18:51Speaker 6: this situation on defense. But yeah, well on defense, especially
- 18:56Speaker 6: on the Jalen Warren screen pass where there's nobody on
- 18:59Speaker 6: that side of the field. It wasn't even a scream.
- 19:00Speaker 6: I don't think it was just a swing to Jalen Warren.
- 19:03Speaker 6: He makes one guy miss and like there's nobody for
- 19:07Speaker 6: Pat Fryerman.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Can we actually watch and listen to that play? We
- 19:10Speaker 2: have that play because that was that was typical of
- 19:13Speaker 2: what we were seeing in this game.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Warreners did the wright.
- 19:15Speaker 9: Rodgers in the shotgun, gets a snap back to pass,
- 19:17Speaker 9: rows to one wide open scooting down the right sideline
- 19:21Speaker 9: pass room.
- 19:22Speaker 8: There is nobody there and he's in for the score.
- 19:25Speaker 8: Jell and Warner's short pass out to.
- 19:28Speaker 10: The flat and he goes thirty eight yards in for
- 19:31Speaker 10: the touchdown.
- 19:32Speaker 8: Pittsburgh Steelers add their lead here.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Touch Yeah, so you adding things like that, the nasty
- 19:37Speaker 6: rashod Bateman drop on third and four in the red
- 19:40Speaker 6: zone where it's again credit to the Pittsburgh Steelers for
- 19:43Speaker 6: the pressures that they did get.
- 19:44Speaker 7: TJ.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Watt adds another great great plays to his great resume.
- 19:48Speaker 6: But there's aspects of this that we're also a donation.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Sure, I agree, but he can't run the ball. And
- 19:57Speaker 2: like I said, well, Rogers played well. Like for instance,
- 19:59Speaker 2: there's like a third and want escape early that he gets.
- 20:02Speaker 2: He had three or four dimes in this game two
- 20:04Speaker 2: DK The one to Austin was a beautiful ball. He
- 20:08Speaker 2: ran in for a touchdown. So he's making plays. And
- 20:11Speaker 2: then on the other side, here's my stat I had
- 20:13Speaker 2: it circled. I didn't want to forget it. I didn't
- 20:15Speaker 2: want to forget it. The Ravens had eighteen runs I
- 20:19Speaker 2: believe in the red zone today, right, that doesn't seem right, However,
- 20:23Speaker 2: many runs they had in the red zone, and I
- 20:25Speaker 2: will confirm it. Do you want to know their success
- 20:27Speaker 2: rate on it?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Patrick? Tell me the success right, it's a big fat
- 20:29Speaker 1: zero zero.
- 20:32Speaker 2: And that's where I think about that miss touchdown call
- 20:35Speaker 2: at the end where okay, you get likely you know,
- 20:38Speaker 2: doesn't complete that play. They are set up on a
- 20:41Speaker 2: third and two on the five right after that because
- 20:44Speaker 2: they have a good second down, and what does Derrick
- 20:46Speaker 2: Henry and this offensive line do right after that? They
- 20:49Speaker 2: lose three yards on the next play, and then Lamar
- 20:52Speaker 2: has a chance to just like make something special happen.
- 20:55Speaker 2: He can't pull off like a very difficult throw to Andrews.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And there were a few times like that in this
- 21:00Speaker 2: game where Lamar maybe had a chance to do something
- 21:02Speaker 2: special and he didn't. Particularly, I think he's looked much
- 21:04Speaker 2: better in terms of his legs the last couple of games.
- 21:06Speaker 2: For what it's worth you, he runs for forty three
- 21:08Speaker 2: yards in this game, including a touchdown. He looks healthier,
- 21:11Speaker 2: but like, I don't know, you can't run the ball
- 21:13Speaker 2: and you're letting Aaron Rodgers make plays all over you.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Like, I don't feel that bad.
- 21:18Speaker 5: This was the ultimate greg and Patrick game because not
- 21:20Speaker 5: only did Aaron Rodgers play probably one of the best,
- 21:23Speaker 5: if not his best game of the entire season, but
- 21:25Speaker 5: also Jalen Warren got in the end zone. So everybody loses.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I lost. I mean, I was rooting for the Ravens.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I'm not lying about it.
- 21:32Speaker 6: And I get the Jalen Warren thing is a joke
- 21:34Speaker 6: or another Gregor whur. I enjoy Aaron Rodgers discount double
- 21:38Speaker 6: checking and celebrating and being all salty in the.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Post But I do, yeah, I have to, like, I
- 21:43Speaker 1: have to give I have to give credit where it's due.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Indeed, which he.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Did have some postgame salt, I think, right, Aaron Rodgers did.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Like in terms of his hair color or what are
- 21:53Speaker 1: you talking about?
- 21:54Speaker 5: In terms of his attitude? I thought, didn't he don't?
- 21:56Speaker 5: We have some sound of him talking talking a little
- 21:58Speaker 5: smack in the post game.
- 22:00Speaker 7: I'm sure, I'm sure it's it's out there.
- 22:02Speaker 1: We got my Tomlin sound. Let's listen to that.
- 22:05Speaker 11: You know, we knew what was on the line today,
- 22:07Speaker 11: and that's why you go do business with a guy
- 22:10Speaker 11: like Aaron for thick days like today. He's been there,
- 22:14Speaker 11: done that guy. But beyond the experienced component of it,
- 22:18Speaker 11: he relishes it. You can just tell.
- 22:21Speaker 5: And that's the benefit of having a guy like ar
- 22:24Speaker 5: You know, Chris Pabona is doing a great job filling
- 22:26Speaker 5: in for the great Eric Roberts behind the glass.
- 22:29Speaker 3: That one's on me. I take on that one. I
- 22:31Speaker 3: read the rundown wrong. Also, I'm I'm also having a.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Thing he sometimes sometimes Chip Kelly calls the wrong play
- 22:37Speaker 2: in the huddle.
- 22:38Speaker 1: You got to be able to figure it out on
- 22:40Speaker 1: the field.
- 22:40Speaker 2: That's what matters. That's what Chris Babona did right there.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And I was talking about giving credit, by the way,
- 22:46Speaker 2: in terms of red zone that's Dan Pezuda, who's a
- 22:52Speaker 2: great follow on on Blue Sky, by the way, who
- 22:55Speaker 2: works for their FTN, gave me that stat in terms
- 22:58Speaker 2: of zero percent success right in the red zones. I
- 23:01Speaker 2: wanted to give him credit, and I wanted to give
- 23:03Speaker 2: credit to everything that happened in Buffalo. I think we
- 23:06Speaker 2: got the game of the day Bills and Bengals, so
- 23:10Speaker 2: good that we got to bring Nick Chuck into this
- 23:12Speaker 2: show early. But first let's hear from Chris Brown and
- 23:17Speaker 2: Eric Wood on w R.
- 23:18Speaker 12: Brown alone setback receiver to each side and it's intercepted.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Jumping over the air is Bedford gets away from Burrel
- 23:26Speaker 4: thirty twenty ten five dr AFC Defensive Player.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Of the Week test.
- 23:33Speaker 13: Jutted again Christian Bedford with a go ahead touchdown.
- 23:40Speaker 2: A great call there by Chris Brown put that in
- 23:42Speaker 2: the play cause of the year, giving you more work.
- 23:46Speaker 2: But bona somewhere someone in the office of the Players
- 23:50Speaker 2: of the Week office.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Is like, yes, big pop in a big spot. Someone
- 23:54Speaker 1: finally cares about our awards.
- 23:56Speaker 7: We got a dedicated room for it.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's just one guy's I sat really near him.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I can't believe that's a full time.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Gig, especially in today's day and age, Like you get
- 24:06Speaker 2: a pension as a scud missile.
- 24:08Speaker 1: It's crazy. Thirty ninth to thirty four shook.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I'm surprised we led with a defensive play, because man,
- 24:17Speaker 2: this was a lot of great quarterback play, a lot
- 24:19Speaker 2: of great offense.
- 24:20Speaker 1: What stood out to you most in this courageous Bills victory.
- 24:24Speaker 12: Well, yeah, we started with a defensive play because that
- 24:26Speaker 12: was the moment when I realized, and I think everybody
- 24:29Speaker 12: in Himark Stadium realized, oh my god, the Bills actually
- 24:31Speaker 12: can win this game. Because for a good portion of
- 24:33Speaker 12: this contest, Joe Burrow and the Bengals had a step
- 24:36Speaker 12: and a half on the Bills. They had a twenty
- 24:38Speaker 12: eight to eighteen lead in the fourth quarter, They had
- 24:40Speaker 12: three straight touchdown drives to start this game. They could
- 24:43Speaker 12: not be stopped, and it was snowing pretty heavily for
- 24:46Speaker 12: most of this game didn't affect him at all. Josh
- 24:49Speaker 12: Allen also having a pretty good game. It was a
- 24:51Speaker 12: great example of two quarterbacks overcoming inclement weather to find success.
- 24:55Speaker 14: But the Bengals, they were better until that moment.
- 24:57Speaker 12: Until that moment and the moment right before it, when
- 25:00Speaker 12: Josh Allen faces a zero blitz, finds a running lane
- 25:03Speaker 12: and takes off through one of the widest spaces of
- 25:06Speaker 12: open field you're going to find in an NFL field
- 25:08Speaker 12: for a forty yard touchdown.
- 25:10Speaker 14: Just rapid fashion.
- 25:12Speaker 12: The Bills went from being like, oh god, there's like
- 25:14Speaker 12: eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, we're really going
- 25:16Speaker 12: to lose this game to the Bengals. The Bengals who
- 25:18Speaker 12: are so desperate they need every win possible to keep
- 25:21Speaker 12: their dwindling playoff hopes alive. That we thought weren't even
- 25:24Speaker 12: going to be a possibility before Joe Burrow came back
- 25:26Speaker 12: and instead, in a quick, just transition of a couple
- 25:29Speaker 12: of plays, the Bills are on top and they ride
- 25:32Speaker 12: that wave all the way to victory. It was one
- 25:35Speaker 12: of those games that felt like a playoff game between
- 25:38Speaker 12: a team that was eight and four versus a team
- 25:40Speaker 12: that was four and eight.
- 25:41Speaker 14: It was that much fun.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Well, it looked like a playoff game, the playoff game
- 25:44Speaker 2: they played a couple of years ago when the Bengals
- 25:46Speaker 2: went in there and ran all over them that they've
- 25:49Speaker 2: been playing that game on NFL Network all weekend long.
- 25:52Speaker 1: You mentioned the Josh Allen rushing touchdown. Let's hear it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Here's the staff back to pass blitz going.
- 26:00Speaker 8: Up the market, thirty down.
- 26:02Speaker 1: To the twenty.
- 26:03Speaker 8: Allan looking for the zone and he's.
- 26:05Speaker 14: In for a forty yard touchdown.
- 26:09Speaker 8: Rip the piece has been released. My goodness, what a
- 26:17Speaker 8: touchdown run by Allen.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Oh Man back to being one of the most successful
- 26:21Speaker 2: plays in football, the Josh Allen run. And I just
- 26:24Speaker 2: think considering where they were at with the injuries that
- 26:26Speaker 2: their defense had down a couple scores in this game,
- 26:30Speaker 2: to respond the way they did and set up such
- 26:32Speaker 2: a big game next week in New England is just
- 26:34Speaker 2: It's a big in terms of the story of this
- 26:36Speaker 2: season and the story of the AFC. It also all
- 26:39Speaker 2: but eliminates the Bengals from having a little hope.
- 26:42Speaker 5: I think it's good when you see a defense like
- 26:44Speaker 5: this that's been through what they've been through, and certainly
- 26:46Speaker 5: I have not been shy of criticizing them on that
- 26:49Speaker 5: and today absolutely porous on third down and that was
- 26:53Speaker 5: a huge reason why the Bengals were able to stay
- 26:55Speaker 5: in the game and to make the Bills play from
- 26:58Speaker 5: behind through much of this game. But when your defense
- 27:02Speaker 5: responds to something insane that your quarterback does but not
- 27:06Speaker 5: just doesn't just do that once, but does it time
- 27:08Speaker 5: and time again, makes a couple of pivotal takeaway plays
- 27:12Speaker 5: splash plays at the end of the game when it matters,
- 27:15Speaker 5: After Josh Allen, after the button has been pushed right,
- 27:17Speaker 5: you guys are always talking about when when does Joe
- 27:19Speaker 5: Brady up in the box, just press press the release,
- 27:23Speaker 5: press yes, and then the defense showed up in a
- 27:27Speaker 5: big spot and return the fever. That's better complimentary football
- 27:30Speaker 5: than we've seen from the.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Bills in a while.
- 27:32Speaker 6: Yeah, the biggest button moment here was it was fourteen
- 27:35Speaker 6: to three and the Bills had a goal to go.
- 27:37Speaker 6: Situation gets to fourth down and they run. Of course,
- 27:41Speaker 6: it's Joe Brady. It's a mesh alteration and there's nobody
- 27:45Speaker 6: open at the top of the drop and it's classic
- 27:47Speaker 6: Josh Allen. He's buying time, he fakes a defender back,
- 27:51Speaker 6: he's rolling to his right and he throws a seeing
- 27:54Speaker 6: eye touchdown to Khalil Shakir.
- 27:56Speaker 7: That saves the game, like it saves the game.
- 27:59Speaker 6: And there's I'll say, like Lamar's hurt Mahomes that's it
- 28:06Speaker 6: in terms of making this like fade away throw, roll
- 28:09Speaker 6: into your right like on fourth down where that's it.
- 28:11Speaker 6: And there was also a Dalton kin k touchdown later
- 28:14Speaker 6: in the game that happens within structure and Josh didn't
- 28:17Speaker 6: have to do all this. I feel like that's been
- 28:18Speaker 6: the first one in weeks where it's been like that
- 28:21Speaker 6: for the Buffalo Bills. Where it's I mean it's seventeen
- 28:25Speaker 6: and as long as seventeen as they got a chance
- 28:27Speaker 6: to do.
- 28:27Speaker 12: Even the touchdown that they scored to essicially put this
- 28:29Speaker 12: game away was out of structure. It was Allen suddenly
- 28:32Speaker 12: has all day to throw its fourth and goal and
- 28:35Speaker 12: he finds Jackson Hawes for a three yard touchdown to
- 28:37Speaker 12: give them an eleven point lead an eleven point lead
- 28:39Speaker 12: that seemed impossible just a few minutes earlier. The sequence
- 28:43Speaker 12: that followed that basically preceded the Benford play. Take this
- 28:47Speaker 12: for example, James Cook having a great year. They're riding
- 28:49Speaker 12: him on the ground. Everything's cool, They're deep in in
- 28:51Speaker 12: Bengals territory. He fumbles the ball into the end zone.
- 28:53Speaker 12: Bengals recover. Boom, there's their chance to score gone. Bengals
- 28:56Speaker 12: respond with a touchdown drive Mike Koseiki puts them up
- 28:59Speaker 12: to one to eighteen, and then all hell breaks loose.
- 29:02Speaker 12: The Allen touchdown, the Benford picks six. Then aj At
- 29:05Speaker 12: Panessa catches a deflected pass, they go down and score.
- 29:08Speaker 12: That's the Hawes touchdown to give them suddenly a thirty
- 29:10Speaker 12: nine to twenty eight lead. It just happened in such
- 29:12Speaker 12: rapids pocession, and I felt like it was an illustration
- 29:14Speaker 12: of the difference between a team that has found success
- 29:17Speaker 12: for the majority of the season, has overcome adversity, and
- 29:20Speaker 12: has positioned themselves now at nine to four to be
- 29:22Speaker 12: in a great spot, versus a team that has tried
- 29:23Speaker 12: to overcome adversity, has been held back so many times
- 29:26Speaker 12: and is ultimately not going to reach the postseason.
- 29:28Speaker 14: And it's unfortunate for the Bengals.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Like, what a way for this Bengals season to essentially
- 29:32Speaker 2: end that you have a twenty eight to eighteen point lead.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I'm glad you pointed out the time element of this.
- 29:37Speaker 2: With eight minutes left in this game, and you end
- 29:40Speaker 2: up giving up thirty nine points and I know set
- 29:43Speaker 2: seven of those is on Joe Burrow and the offense,
- 29:45Speaker 2: but it's it's just like another kick in the teeth
- 29:49Speaker 2: and you wanted at least to watch took that second
- 29:54Speaker 2: T Higgins touchdown. And while we do that, like, I
- 29:57Speaker 2: want to let you whax on what this Bengals offense
- 30:02Speaker 2: did today, because you could argue this one handed catchwa
- 30:05Speaker 2: while T. Higgins is getting dragged down, is not even
- 30:08Speaker 2: the best Te Higgins touchdown of the game, his first
- 30:10Speaker 2: quarter touchdown was absolutely ridiculous. This is an awesome game,
- 30:13Speaker 2: But what did you see out of the Bengals offense
- 30:16Speaker 2: in the Bills defense today?
- 30:18Speaker 12: An offense that was really fortunate to get Te Higgins back,
- 30:20Speaker 12: An offense that almost lost to Higgins again when he
- 30:22Speaker 12: crashed down to the turf and had to be examined
- 30:24Speaker 12: check for a concussion after his head hit the turf
- 30:26Speaker 12: and he was frozen there obviously, and they were just
- 30:29Speaker 12: really fortunate to have him in there. But another example
- 30:31Speaker 12: of how Joe Burrow elevates this team like exponentially. This
- 30:34Speaker 12: is an offense that could put up points with Joe
- 30:37Speaker 12: Flacco for certain stretches earlier in the season, but we
- 30:39Speaker 12: saw over the last two or three starts that he
- 30:41Speaker 12: had they had struggled. Now, they didn't have Jamar Chase
- 30:43Speaker 12: in one game and they Higgins was in and out.
- 30:45Speaker 14: Whatever it might be.
- 30:46Speaker 12: Burrow, at one point I thought like, could he be
- 30:49Speaker 12: if he were able to lead them to the playoffs
- 30:51Speaker 12: with performances like this and this was a super impressive
- 30:53Speaker 12: one until it all fell apart. Could he potentially be
- 30:55Speaker 12: in the running for MVP? Because that's how valuable he
- 30:58Speaker 12: is to this.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Team, right, I'm not putting him in the conversation.
- 31:02Speaker 14: But the game doesn't matter.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Do we have anything?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Well, they lost, but I'm saying if they had won
- 31:07Speaker 2: this game in an alternate universe, I was allowing for
- 31:10Speaker 2: the fact that the Steelers and Ravens are looking shaky
- 31:13Speaker 2: enough that I was allowing for the fact Bengals could
- 31:14Speaker 2: get back in it.
- 31:15Speaker 6: But now I'm not feeling the points structure. Isn't that
- 31:18Speaker 6: possible for Joe the conversation.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Okay, so we've been mentioning, but Bona killing it behind
- 31:24Speaker 2: the glass the whole crew. That means Eric Roberts is
- 31:28Speaker 2: in Buffalo and we have a special message from Eric.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I have not heard this yet. I'm looking forward to it.
- 31:37Speaker 9: Daily.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We're out here, they're flowing the field. It's snowing on us.
- 31:44Speaker 7: Wear that.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Hopefully this is sprinkled on top of a Bill's win recap.
- 31:48Speaker 1: If not, I'm gonna sit here.
- 31:52Speaker 8: I'm freeze to my seats.
- 31:54Speaker 14: And contemplate life because.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I flew all the way out here for Joe Burrow
- 31:57Speaker 1: to ruin my felling vacation. You're probably running late, Greg,
- 32:02Speaker 1: take a break.
- 32:04Speaker 15: Chris Bona, get him to break now, gold Bill's baby.
- 32:12Speaker 1: That is a real producer right there.
- 32:14Speaker 7: Eric, keep him warm by.
- 32:17Speaker 2: That looks like an amazing scene. He knows that we're
- 32:21Speaker 2: over time. He's telling me just get to your break
- 32:24Speaker 2: and stop honking. But before I do that, I will say,
- 32:27Speaker 2: just just check out Eric on Instagram because he had
- 32:29Speaker 2: some great shots, great seats. Good job by the Roberts family.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Whoever got those tickets. If it was Eric himself, way
- 32:36Speaker 2: to go. And he he saw some of the best
- 32:38Speaker 2: plays of the game from up close. I was happy
- 32:41Speaker 2: for him, and I'm happy it sets up an awesome
- 32:43Speaker 2: game in the AFC East next week. Let's take a
- 32:46Speaker 2: break on the flip side. We're gonna talk about a
- 32:49Speaker 2: game that could help decide the AFC South. So many
- 32:52Speaker 2: big ones today, Chris, get him.
- 32:55Speaker 1: To break, dropping again, looking again, fires in the right
- 33:05Speaker 1: side of the endo pot, touchdown.
- 33:08Speaker 8: Jacoby Myers caught it in.
- 33:10Speaker 4: The right side of the hands out, fourteen yard scoring strike.
- 33:15Speaker 2: What a throll, What a throw? What a day for
- 33:19Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrence h thirty six to nineteen. The Jaguars roll
- 33:24Speaker 2: over the Indianapolis Colts takeover first place in the AFC
- 33:28Speaker 2: South feels like a long time ago. The Colts were
- 33:32Speaker 2: seven and one and on top of the conference that
- 33:35Speaker 2: was Frank Frazi. By the way, on wj x L,
- 33:39Speaker 2: some people are saying Jacoby Myers the best trade deadline
- 33:43Speaker 2: pickup of the year, and in many years that's some
- 33:46Speaker 2: people where it was Patrick Claybonn in the break leading
- 33:49Speaker 2: up to it. Unfortunately, Jordan like as great as a
- 33:52Speaker 2: Jaguars performances is, and we'll get to it. It did
- 33:54Speaker 2: feel like the biggest news of this day was what
- 33:57Speaker 2: happened with the Colts.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Yeah, so at that time that put the Jaguars up
- 34:02Speaker 5: fourteen to seven. It was still a beautiful time when
- 34:06Speaker 5: both teams were relatively healthy. They were going to compete
- 34:09Speaker 5: and this is going to be a ballgame. Blows are
- 34:11Speaker 5: being traded back and forth. But in the biggest game
- 34:16Speaker 5: of the Colt season to date, they lose their quarterback,
- 34:20Speaker 5: Daniel Jones do an achilles injury that Shane Siken postgame
- 34:24Speaker 5: did not have an official update on, but said does
- 34:26Speaker 5: not look good. A non contact injury on a throw
- 34:30Speaker 5: in the first quarter and he knew it immediately and
- 34:33Speaker 5: he slams his helmet down and by halftime he's on
- 34:36Speaker 5: a boot in a boot on the sideline for the
- 34:39Speaker 5: rest of the game, and it is an uphill climb
- 34:41Speaker 5: for Riley Leonard at that point.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and this Jaguars defense has been playing better yet great,
- 34:48Speaker 2: you had your eyes, you know, on Riley Leonard the
- 34:51Speaker 2: rest of the day. But to remind the listeners, Anthony
- 34:54Speaker 2: Richardson suffers that freak injury with the exercise band that
- 35:00Speaker 2: it breaks his eye socket. We have no word on
- 35:03Speaker 2: when or if he's going to be available again, so
- 35:06Speaker 2: we'll just have to wait and see. Riley Leonard is
- 35:09Speaker 2: a late round pick, Nate Tyson's guy out of Notre Dame.
- 35:14Speaker 2: But it's just hard to see this Colts team competing now.
- 35:19Speaker 2: You remember, of course, they gave up their first round
- 35:20Speaker 2: pick to the Jets to get Sas Gardner. He's currently
- 35:24Speaker 2: out with a calf injury. And suddenly some of these teams,
- 35:27Speaker 2: like the Bills, for instance, we just talked about like
- 35:31Speaker 2: you can almost cross off the Colts. I have a
- 35:34Speaker 2: feeling because they have such a brutal schedule down the
- 35:37Speaker 2: stretch too. For Riley Leonard and this team to play
- 35:39Speaker 2: a team that was already kind of showing signs of decline.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and it started with the run game with them.
- 35:45Speaker 5: It was the biggest crack until you know, Daniel Jones
- 35:50Speaker 5: broke his leg and was trying to play through that
- 35:52Speaker 5: entering the game. Was their run game that was really struggling,
- 35:55Speaker 5: and all of their losses this season, teams have held
- 35:58Speaker 5: Jonathan Taylor for eighty six yards or less and this
- 36:01Speaker 5: game was no different. Now, the Jaguars defense, I want
- 36:04Speaker 5: to say, it wasn't just that they were playing lesser
- 36:07Speaker 5: quarterback competition.
- 36:08Speaker 3: They played really, really well.
- 36:10Speaker 5: It started with Devin Lloyd who picked off Daniel Jones
- 36:13Speaker 5: on Daniel Jones' very first pass from scrimmage, which you
- 36:16Speaker 5: know you say omens and signs all the time, Greg,
- 36:19Speaker 5: this was a big one and it got they They
- 36:22Speaker 5: swarmed to the ball and they covered really well and
- 36:26Speaker 5: they just were relentless. They ended up taking the ball
- 36:29Speaker 5: away three times, including forcing a fumble on a Jonathan
- 36:33Speaker 5: Taylor carrey, and like I said, bottled up the run
- 36:36Speaker 5: game really really effectively. And that's where I think this
- 36:38Speaker 5: Jaguars defense has improved. But Riley Leonard did not play
- 36:42Speaker 5: back play poorly in my opinion. The statistic I think
- 36:46Speaker 5: he played better than what his statistics showed, and they
- 36:48Speaker 5: show that he was eighteen of twenty nine with no
- 36:50Speaker 5: passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, and of course the interception.
- 36:54Speaker 3: But he made a couple of really tough throws.
- 36:56Speaker 5: He showed that he wants to push the ball, that
- 36:58Speaker 5: he understands how to run the offense, that he can
- 37:00Speaker 5: push the ball and he can create out of structure,
- 37:02Speaker 5: which he did a couple of times. He made a
- 37:04Speaker 5: couple of really tough throws, including a possible pivotal throw,
- 37:08Speaker 5: which really was one of two moments that could have
- 37:10Speaker 5: helped get the Colts back in this game. That was
- 37:14Speaker 5: a touchdown that was called back to a very suspicious
- 37:18Speaker 5: penalty and there were.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Calls on both sides.
- 37:21Speaker 5: Guys before I get it in my mentions, but that
- 37:23Speaker 5: was a tough That was a tough one because you
- 37:25Speaker 5: could see the Colts defense really kind of turned to
- 37:28Speaker 5: Riley Leonard after he made that would be touchdown pass
- 37:32Speaker 5: and they were like, all right, we got a chance,
- 37:34Speaker 5: and they ended up forcing a stop on the other
- 37:36Speaker 5: side against Trevor Lawrence and the Jags offense that played
- 37:38Speaker 5: had a really really good game today.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yeah, the design success rate for the Colts thirty four
- 37:43Speaker 2: twenty percent, and it's been it's been falling in recent weeks.
- 37:47Speaker 2: And that's that's I think what's gonna maybe get forgotten
- 37:49Speaker 2: in this Colt season that like, unfortunately the seven and
- 37:52Speaker 2: one fall was happening before these injuries. Now, I mean,
- 37:58Speaker 2: it's crazy to think about what are they They're eight
- 37:59Speaker 2: and five, so they've won, you know, one game since
- 38:02Speaker 2: that great star and uh, let's give the Jaguars some love.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I would love to, because tem trev it's a
- 38:09Speaker 5: good day for team trev I'm so hard.
- 38:11Speaker 3: On Trevor Lawrence.
- 38:12Speaker 5: I own that and I recognize that, and I am
- 38:15Speaker 5: always lamenting the roller coaster that is the Trevor Lawrence experience.
- 38:19Speaker 5: But he took care of the ball so well today
- 38:22Speaker 5: Patrick and in a downpour it looked miserable in Jacksonville.
- 38:25Speaker 5: It rained buckets the entire time, but he took care
- 38:30Speaker 5: of the ball. He didn't turn it over. He ran
- 38:33Speaker 5: a couple of times, including a sneak. It was really
- 38:35Speaker 5: important for the for the Jaguars, and he made a
- 38:37Speaker 5: couple of really incredible throws, including this video that I
- 38:40Speaker 5: would like to present. Oh, both I know, and it's
- 38:43Speaker 5: me doing it as a possible Throw of the Year candidate,
- 38:45Speaker 5: because this is a pouring rain throw right here to
- 38:47Speaker 5: Tim Patrick down the sideline and you see the water
- 38:51Speaker 5: dripping off the camera Lene. So it's Trevor rolling out
- 38:53Speaker 5: throwing on the move down the sideline, doing so on
- 38:57Speaker 5: the move as his body's floating away.
- 39:01Speaker 3: In the pouring rate. Now, I don't know if it
- 39:02Speaker 3: wins Throw of the Year, but it's not.
- 39:04Speaker 1: It's not gonna win, no.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Of course, but it's Trevor.
- 39:06Speaker 1: It's nice to be nominated.
- 39:07Speaker 5: It's Trevor Lawrence, who I feel like I owed a
- 39:09Speaker 5: nomination to at least one time during the seaton.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I've been pretty hard on him.
- 39:13Speaker 1: He's playing his best football the last couple of weeks,
- 39:15Speaker 1: and like.
- 39:16Speaker 6: That a throw where Trevor Lawrence can make it look
- 39:19Speaker 6: routine by making the right decision at the right time,
- 39:21Speaker 6: getting the ball to come down in the right spot
- 39:23Speaker 6: to Tim Patrick where it When he makes it look easy,
- 39:26Speaker 6: it's like, oh, okay, well, yeah, anybody could have done it.
- 39:29Speaker 7: When Trevor does that, that's when everything is working great.
- 39:32Speaker 6: Yeah, And we saw like the fully implemented design for
- 39:37Speaker 6: BTJ as well, who's catching deep balls on the side
- 39:41Speaker 6: likee doing what Brian Thomas Junior is supposed to do
- 39:44Speaker 6: out on the edge. And you know, it's fully as
- 39:47Speaker 6: symbol to this point where ETN and the run game,
- 39:50Speaker 6: especially taking advantage of those early Colts turnovers, the one
- 39:53Speaker 6: from Jonathan Taylor, which was backbreaking in hindsight, because Dimes
- 39:57Speaker 6: just goes down and I'm sure Jonathan Taylor thinks, yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 6: I got a grind out every single yard and he's
- 40:02Speaker 6: trying to reach for an extra when the ball gets
- 40:04Speaker 6: poked out. You can credit the Jacks defense from that.
- 40:07Speaker 6: And Devin Lloyd has continued his you know, dpoy cannibacy.
- 40:10Speaker 6: After missing a few games, he comes back. He gets
- 40:13Speaker 6: Dimes again with the play he's got almost every quarterback
- 40:16Speaker 6: they've played this season, lining up right at the line
- 40:18Speaker 6: of scrimmage, dropping out, hotting but behind the line, and
- 40:21Speaker 6: popping up for another pick.
- 40:22Speaker 7: He does it all.
- 40:23Speaker 1: What a ride this Jaguars team has been on.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Like they started out hot and then they were they
- 40:28Speaker 2: don't look great before the bye, and suddenly it just
- 40:30Speaker 2: felt like it went from MESSI fun to just messy.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And now they're at nine and four everyone's contributed to
- 40:35Speaker 2: ETN with a long touchdown run you mentioned. I know
- 40:38Speaker 2: it's slowed down a little bit later in this game.
- 40:40Speaker 2: And yeah, we've kind of wanted to see Trevor click
- 40:43Speaker 2: with Liam Cohen. That's been the one thing we haven't seen.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I thought he had his best game of the season
- 40:47Speaker 2: last year. You can play well even if it's the Titans,
- 40:51Speaker 2: and I think what he showed on tape was good
- 40:53Speaker 2: last week. You could see how fired up Liam Cohen
- 40:55Speaker 2: was on the sideline and he was a little fired
- 40:57Speaker 2: up after the game too. Team that feeds on disrespect,
- 41:02Speaker 2: how do you does that continue to go when maybe
- 41:04Speaker 2: the respect starts to come, which might be where you
- 41:07Speaker 2: are ever.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Really get it.
- 41:08Speaker 1: So that's the beauty of it.
- 41:09Speaker 8: I ain't coming.
- 41:10Speaker 3: You know that it's not so And that's the beauty
- 41:13Speaker 3: of it.
- 41:13Speaker 14: And that's totally fine.
- 41:15Speaker 1: All right. He's putting that chip money for Massachusetts. Uh,
- 41:19Speaker 1: maybe I didn't.
- 41:20Speaker 7: We get no respect.
- 41:21Speaker 1: The chip is on the shoulder.
- 41:24Speaker 2: The Jaguars are nine and four currently the three seed,
- 41:27Speaker 2: and talk about no respect. They haven't allowed the Indianapolis
- 41:31Speaker 2: Colts to win a football game in Jacksonville since twenty fourteen.
- 41:37Speaker 2: That's four thy, one hundred and two days. According to
- 41:40Speaker 2: our friend John Shipley, that includes some pretty garbage Jaguars
- 41:44Speaker 2: teams over over the years.
- 41:45Speaker 7: Who rusher in that game for the Colts Trent Richardson.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Also Liam Cohen.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Hello, we named the Jacksonville Jaguars the messy fun team
- 41:56Speaker 5: of the NFL Daily Podcast, which I know you organization
- 42:00Speaker 5: is aware of.
- 42:01Speaker 1: So blow.
- 42:02Speaker 3: The disrespect is not in the building over here.
- 42:05Speaker 2: That's kind of like backhanded compliments. But I'll if I'm them,
- 42:08Speaker 2: I would take it as respect at least we're talking
- 42:10Speaker 2: about Wait, we had a blast with that episode.
- 42:12Speaker 6: Absolutely, unlike somebody else that's sitting at the stable. I
- 42:15Speaker 6: picked the Jacks to win this game, So okay, I
- 42:17Speaker 6: now the respect is is all.
- 42:19Speaker 5: It was a direct comment toward Greg Rosell. I understand everything.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I'll take that out because I think they were winning
- 42:24Speaker 2: this game, whether Dana Jones finished it or not. After
- 42:27Speaker 2: watching that, Okay, So that that's who's atop the AFC South.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Let's see if we found any separation in the Great
- 42:34Speaker 2: NFC West.
- 42:36Speaker 15: To Possession and plus Terrible tour short set a ball fake,
- 42:40Speaker 15: he wheels, he deals jumping at the.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Five book.
- 42:46Speaker 15: One play, a thirty one yard strike, puss up Lukula
- 42:51Speaker 15: with a new career high in touchdowns.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Wow, thanks for playing m J. D.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yes, I'll see for it. I'll see you in the
- 43:02Speaker 2: film room in like an hour or so. Watch that
- 43:05Speaker 2: Sunday night football game. Yeah, that was the Pukainakua drive.
- 43:09Speaker 2: One catch drive, nice and efficient. It was the Pukainakua game.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Seven catches, one hundred and sixty seven yards and two touchdowns,
- 43:17Speaker 2: much of those in the first half. Almost felt like
- 43:20Speaker 2: Patrick he was trying to top himself, like, Oh, you
- 43:22Speaker 2: thought that catch was good, how about this catch? The
- 43:25Speaker 2: Rams win forty five to seventeen in a game where
- 43:28Speaker 2: Stafford got to just chill for a lot of the
- 43:30Speaker 2: fourth quarter.
- 43:31Speaker 7: And I'm glad that he did. It's always it's always
- 43:34Speaker 7: a couple drives longer.
- 43:35Speaker 6: Or I started to complain about it early because this
- 43:37Speaker 6: one was out of the question to the point where
- 43:39Speaker 6: I'm I'm arguing with next gen stats because there was
- 43:41Speaker 6: a couple of Stafford throwaways targeted that get credited as
- 43:45Speaker 6: a target towards Pokunakua. Or I don't think they should
- 43:48Speaker 6: count because he caught everything as he has for the
- 43:51Speaker 6: past few weeks. He was spectacular. To get a chance
- 43:54Speaker 6: to watch this game and you're worried about the score,
- 43:55Speaker 6: it's worth it just to see how Pooka was playing
- 44:00Speaker 6: the start of the fourth quarter. Was Jimmy g in
- 44:03Speaker 6: the game because the offense for the Rams was averaging
- 44:05Speaker 6: almost nine yards of play. Stafford does retake the lead
- 44:09Speaker 6: in the conversation as the Patriots were a bye, so
- 44:13Speaker 6: I'll get a full score update coming out probably on
- 44:16Speaker 6: Monday night. But the Rams defense is what made this
- 44:18Speaker 6: one laughable. They pressured, were set on forty eight percent
- 44:21Speaker 6: of his dropbacks. He completed less than half of his
- 44:23Speaker 6: attempts when he was under pressure. The offense looked disjointed
- 44:27Speaker 6: and clunky for the vast majority of the afternoon. He
- 44:29Speaker 6: was a negative six in terms of completion percentage over expected,
- 44:34Speaker 6: so he was under expected in terms of that stat
- 44:36Speaker 6: on the completion percentage. Michael Wilson in that one role
- 44:40Speaker 6: where he can play because there was no Marvin Harrison
- 44:42Speaker 6: Junior there.
- 44:43Speaker 7: But it's scarcely difficult to call this one a football game.
- 44:47Speaker 6: And late Lake Korm had a long touchdown where I
- 44:50Speaker 6: wondered if that was the beginning of the end of
- 44:52Speaker 6: the Jonathan Gannon Eric I.
- 44:54Speaker 5: Think that was the longest Rams touchdown of the season. Actually,
- 44:57Speaker 5: they hadn't had They don't do a lot of explosive
- 44:59Speaker 5: running Blake Rum really I mean into blocking on that.
- 45:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Like we keep hearing again in safe and Monty
- 45:07Speaker 2: Austin for It's safe. They're showing Monty Austin Ford in
- 45:11Speaker 2: the owners you know booth, you know, sitting next to
- 45:14Speaker 2: it's a good place to bed. Well it is, So
- 45:16Speaker 2: that makes me think he's more likely to stay.
- 45:19Speaker 1: But I've just seen this enough.
- 45:20Speaker 2: We've seen this over and over in the years, where
- 45:23Speaker 2: insiders say these guys are safe or they're trending.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Oh, they're not going to be in trouble at all.
- 45:28Speaker 2: And that's early December, and then they get their teeth
- 45:31Speaker 2: kicked in, and then there's another week and they get
- 45:34Speaker 2: their teeth kicked in again, and then there's another week
- 45:37Speaker 2: and it's like this month, it's a long way to go.
- 45:40Speaker 2: It feels like the Cardinal season is over. But they
- 45:42Speaker 2: got to play four more of these games and they
- 45:44Speaker 2: keep getting embarrassed. I just it's hard for them to
- 45:47Speaker 2: make a case if it continues to go like this,
- 45:51Speaker 2: especially in this division where he's had a chance now
- 45:54Speaker 2: year three to kind of show, Okay, what can I
- 45:56Speaker 2: do defensively against these teams and everyone's putting up a
- 46:00Speaker 2: forty burger on them. The forty nine ers are that
- 46:02Speaker 2: the Seahawks are and now the Rams are. But yeah,
- 46:05Speaker 2: you mentioned the run game, Patrick, they go for two
- 46:08Speaker 2: hundred and forty nine yards on the ground. I don't
- 46:11Speaker 2: think it's like a secret weapon, but I think if
- 46:13Speaker 2: the Rams win the Super Bowl, and I think they
- 46:16Speaker 2: have as good a chance as any team in the
- 46:17Speaker 2: league to do it, their running game is gonna be
- 46:20Speaker 2: one of, if not the biggest reasons why it looked
- 46:24Speaker 2: great today.
- 46:24Speaker 6: And again you know the Cardinals caveat Although in defense
- 46:28Speaker 6: of Jonathan Gannon and the Cardinals.
- 46:29Speaker 7: The close losses did pile up the course of the season.
- 46:33Speaker 7: It hasn't been like this. It has gotten there late.
- 46:37Speaker 6: But it was whether it was Williams, whether it's Corn,
- 46:40Speaker 6: whether it was Ronnie Rivers late in the fourth shot
- 46:43Speaker 6: out to Ronnie Rivers, who had a lot of garbage
- 46:46Speaker 6: done it today because there was a.
- 46:47Speaker 7: Lot of it available. Well partly kind of my games today,
- 46:51Speaker 7: by the.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Way, Yeah, that's unfortunate.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking that your game's early ye had
- 46:57Speaker 2: some blowouts too, but then you got the good win
- 46:59Speaker 2: lat the great one.
- 47:01Speaker 5: This was back to the thirteen personnel way that we've
- 47:05Speaker 5: seen from Sean mcfay, which is fascinating. I've been talking
- 47:09Speaker 5: to some people around the league about this over the
- 47:11Speaker 5: last couple of weeks, and there's this theory that's being
- 47:13Speaker 5: played out, and I think we're just gonna need a lot,
- 47:15Speaker 5: like just more data from the entire season to just
- 47:17Speaker 5: see kind of what matches what. But that it's so
- 47:20Speaker 5: easy for him to skip right over twelve personnel and
- 47:23Speaker 5: go directly to thirteen, not just because he has the
- 47:26Speaker 5: tight ends to do it and the skill level of
- 47:28Speaker 5: the tight end position to do it even without you know,
- 47:31Speaker 5: guys banged up, But it's a lot of the same
- 47:33Speaker 5: eleven personnel concepts and route patterns that is just being
- 47:38Speaker 5: run out of a heavier personnel and when they go
- 47:41Speaker 5: against the defense that is a little bit more of
- 47:44Speaker 5: a matchup based deef. So Jonathan Gannon scheming a matchup
- 47:47Speaker 5: week by week, which we know he tends to do.
- 47:50Speaker 5: This is their version of just loading up and what
- 47:53Speaker 5: other teams say We'll load up and run the ball
- 47:55Speaker 5: down your throat. This is their version of it, except
- 47:57Speaker 5: they keep their passing game open as well because of
- 47:59Speaker 5: what they're their tight ends can do and what Pukakua
- 48:01Speaker 5: can do.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw Tarah Barsap with the ESPN said they
- 48:06Speaker 2: had more yeah, thirteen personnel, three tight ends on the
- 48:09Speaker 2: field in the first half of this game than any
- 48:10Speaker 2: game all season. So they they loaded up, they pushed
- 48:13Speaker 2: them around. It was nice to see their pass rush
- 48:15Speaker 2: get after it again. They had nine quick pressures in
- 48:17Speaker 2: this game, a million pressures in general. As Patrick mentioned,
- 48:21Speaker 2: they've been a little quiet at points lately, and Nate
- 48:24Speaker 2: Landman did his thing again with a crazy, awesome interception
- 48:28Speaker 2: in the second half.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I'm now gonna put Bobona on.
- 48:31Speaker 2: The mic for the first time in his show, and
- 48:34Speaker 2: this is a legacy game for Bobona, and I'm gonna
- 48:38Speaker 2: give you the decision. As we just talked all about
- 48:42Speaker 2: these tight ends, do you want the Colby Parkinson touchdown
- 48:45Speaker 2: in the show or do you think we should make
- 48:46Speaker 2: up some time and move along?
- 48:48Speaker 7: Now you're you're gonna play it because I cut it.
- 48:52Speaker 8: What third and goal helmet high snap looking left pros medal.
- 48:58Speaker 8: It's a touchdown.
- 49:00Speaker 15: Larkishon. How about the Sean McVay flu game. The head
- 49:07Speaker 15: coach and play callers sick on the road in Arizona.
- 49:12Speaker 15: Five drives, five scores, Stafford surgical in la is blowing
- 49:18Speaker 15: out Arizona.
- 49:20Speaker 1: That is awesome. You know, it's a blot when we
- 49:21Speaker 1: spent the second half wondering like what what was his sickness?
- 49:24Speaker 1: Maybe it was the flu. JB. Long knows all. And
- 49:29Speaker 1: I like how spicy Chris gott.
- 49:31Speaker 7: I just want to add, yes, Sean McVay is not
- 49:33Speaker 7: the only one who had a flu game. I spent
- 49:35Speaker 7: the last forty eight hours in bed.
- 49:37Speaker 1: There we go, came here, there we go.
- 49:38Speaker 7: I delivered. Yeah, I've been kind of Sickleye.
- 49:41Speaker 1: We haven't reached half a Yeah, Chris, so you know,
- 49:44Speaker 1: don't a lot of game.
- 49:46Speaker 7: He's pointing out the score game McVay. Yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 2: I also, I also shouldn't be too surprised because Chris
- 49:53Speaker 2: is a RAMS fan.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Of course I know he's dead that of course we
- 49:56Speaker 3: played the highlight. He's got his cap and his jacket on.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Well, not everything was in Rams fandom today because they
- 50:02Speaker 2: had to watch the Seahawks put it on the Atlanta
- 50:05Speaker 2: Tawk shhed.
- 50:07Speaker 14: The deeper of the two back on the goal line
- 50:09Speaker 14: and here comes to kick end over end.
- 50:10Speaker 9: Shaheed from the goal line near right side, numbers up
- 50:14Speaker 9: the field ten twenty looking for a gap.
- 50:16Speaker 8: He's got one.
- 50:17Speaker 7: He's off to the racers.
- 50:18Speaker 8: Lookout.
- 50:18Speaker 1: This could be at fifty forty thirty.
- 50:21Speaker 8: They're not gonna touch him.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Ten five.
- 50:23Speaker 8: He looks back, touch down Sheeahawks. What a way to
- 50:28Speaker 8: start the second half.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Kick the ball to Rashi shed and take no baby
- 50:35Speaker 4: for a hundred yards.
- 50:36Speaker 8: And he does so.
- 50:39Speaker 2: The score was tied at that point, six to sixth Yeah, halftime.
- 50:42Speaker 2: The final score was thirty seven to nine. We can
- 50:46Speaker 2: go in a lot of directions here. I appreciate the
- 50:48Speaker 2: great call by Steve Rabel here on KIRO, but how
- 50:52Speaker 2: about we start this way.
- 50:53Speaker 7: Let's do it.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Raheem Morris got those three points by kicking a field
- 50:58Speaker 2: goal when twenty three to nine inside the ten yard
- 51:03Speaker 2: line on a fourth and two. That's the most gutless
- 51:05Speaker 2: field goal I've seen all year, and the most pointless.
- 51:07Speaker 1: What are you doing, Raheem? Let's give the love? Actually, yeah,
- 51:12Speaker 1: it was just it was a very very sad field goal,
- 51:15Speaker 1: and it's saddest. That was the saddest. It was the
- 51:17Speaker 1: twenty three to six.
- 51:20Speaker 5: That's the clack like, what is it the claxon horn
- 51:23Speaker 5: of field goal?
- 51:24Speaker 6: Wow, we will we will give that the twenty twenty
- 51:27Speaker 6: five sad field goal Award, Thank you for the Falcons.
- 51:30Speaker 6: Where As a tail of two halves, that's the start
- 51:32Speaker 6: of the third quarter where the Falcons have somehow managed
- 51:35Speaker 6: to have this a six to six ball game. Rashijied
- 51:37Speaker 6: has that touchdown. By the way, the average length of
- 51:40Speaker 6: Rashik si Heat's touchdowns in his career in the NFL
- 51:44Speaker 6: is over fifty yards. This one hundred yard kick return
- 51:48Speaker 6: definitely helps that, but consistently because we're years into this,
- 51:51Speaker 6: uh and he's still doing it. So after the game,
- 51:54Speaker 6: Raheem Morris said that that was a backbreaker. It costs
- 51:57Speaker 6: the team the momentum. Kirk Cousins was asked about that
- 52:00Speaker 6: and said, quote, who cares. We have to find our
- 52:02Speaker 6: way back. You have to play your way back from that.
- 52:05Speaker 6: So in honor of Kirk Cousins, Falcons are officially eliminated.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Other than my linkage to Terry Fontea after putting him
- 52:11Speaker 6: up there in the GM rankings. There's no reason to
- 52:13Speaker 6: discuss Kirk Cousins and the Falcons anymore. So we'll honor
- 52:16Speaker 6: Kirk's request and thank this Seahawks essentially on the way.
- 52:19Speaker 6: Although Jean Robinson crossed the thousand yards and Kyle Pitts
- 52:23Speaker 6: had ninety plus through the air, let's talk Seahawks because
- 52:26Speaker 6: against man Blitzes, against the defense that was the top
- 52:29Speaker 6: pass defense in the NFL at one point, Sam Donald
- 52:32Speaker 6: had an interception in the first half, a rough first half,
- 52:34Speaker 6: but this late season, Sam kind of went away in
- 52:38Speaker 6: the second half. He had three touchdowns against Van Blitzz.
- 52:40Speaker 6: There were two JSN touchdowns where he won that one
- 52:43Speaker 6: on one battle with Ajterrell and they got one quick
- 52:47Speaker 6: pressure did the Falcons on Donald? The passer rating win
- 52:50Speaker 6: pressure today was one hundred and twenty seven. So the
- 52:53Speaker 6: folks that were watching this Donald decline, it definitely went away.
- 52:56Speaker 6: I understand as Kirk Cousins says, who cares a much
- 53:01Speaker 6: better game from Sam? Slinging Sammy today? In a dominant
- 53:04Speaker 6: Seahawks performance when they go on a thirty four to
- 53:05Speaker 6: three run to close it out.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Like that is how the Seahawks play football, though they
- 53:11Speaker 2: have now four This was a graphic during the show,
- 53:15Speaker 2: four thirty point halves this year, and I'm like, that
- 53:19Speaker 2: can't happen too often. They've done it four times. The
- 53:21Speaker 2: rest of the NFL combined has done it six times.
- 53:25Speaker 2: So they explode whether it's special teams, defense or offense.
- 53:29Speaker 2: But I do think on a day where they didn't
- 53:31Speaker 2: run the ball too well, we kind of know their
- 53:33Speaker 2: special teams and their defense is gonna be good.
- 53:36Speaker 1: That's not a surprise to me.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I think they got to feel good to have such
- 53:39Speaker 2: a positive Sam Darnold performance where he did get Shahat
- 53:42Speaker 2: involved too as a receiver. Cooper Cup gets a touchdown
- 53:45Speaker 2: and JSN gets back on the MBP track.
- 53:48Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it's not gonna happen.
- 53:51Speaker 6: JSN does get the points from this game with the
- 53:54Speaker 6: two scores on the road, and so yeah, it's back
- 53:57Speaker 6: in the positive in the conversation.
- 53:59Speaker 7: But you know the vibes in general and their offense
- 54:02Speaker 7: all the way up.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he beats aj Terrell like on an inside move
- 54:06Speaker 2: and then dust him on a catch and run early.
- 54:08Speaker 2: That was their second touch down of the second half.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it was incredible.
- 54:11Speaker 5: He had five passes on seven targets when matched up
- 54:14Speaker 5: against Ajterrell for eighty one yards down according to next
- 54:18Speaker 5: jen Stats, this is maybe the best.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Team in football. Uh one through three? Pick one and
- 54:25Speaker 3: put him there, right, And you mentioned that.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Who is three Packers?
- 54:30Speaker 3: Okay, put the Packers there.
- 54:31Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 54:32Speaker 3: It's all NFC teams in my book.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Anyway, I feel like because a body of work I
- 54:36Speaker 2: put the Rams in Seahawks about But you're right, I
- 54:37Speaker 2: think Packers gets.
- 54:38Speaker 1: In the age today.
- 54:40Speaker 5: Yeah, that what that defense did today. I think, first
- 54:44Speaker 5: of all, great for Sam Darnold. This is exactly when
- 54:46Speaker 5: you want your quarterback playing some of his best football,
- 54:48Speaker 5: especially problem solving against some of the pressure. Look, you
- 54:51Speaker 5: know that Jeff Ulbrich did not make it easy on
- 54:53Speaker 5: him with some of the blitzing that that Atlanta likes
- 54:56Speaker 5: to do. And also you mentioned Greg that the Rams
- 54:59Speaker 5: were probably really sad watching the Seahawks cruise, but they
- 55:02Speaker 5: got a draft pick that good. Watching a little bit
- 55:04Speaker 5: closer than that, I think Atlanta is giving them a
- 55:08Speaker 5: pretty high high value first round pick.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Atlanta right now has is projected according to tankathon, for
- 55:14Speaker 2: the number nine pick. That trade looking better and better
- 55:17Speaker 2: since I didn't watch this game really almost at all.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Patrick ok, I do want you to tell me something
- 55:22Speaker 2: you found interesting about the seahawks defensive performance against your
- 55:27Speaker 2: guy Kirk oh other than the fact that it was
- 55:30Speaker 2: they were covering a man named Dylan Drummond who had
- 55:32Speaker 2: four or five catches.
- 55:34Speaker 6: Yeah, and David Sills also getting back in the game
- 55:36Speaker 6: of this high line Falcons offense where they had Nicki
- 55:40Speaker 6: men Wury matched up, and I know col Pits had
- 55:42Speaker 6: a great game, but really allowing nick Eman Worriy to
- 55:47Speaker 6: to get involved in man coverage against Kyle Pits like use,
- 55:50Speaker 6: It's two incredibly large, fast gifted athletes and Pitt's got
- 55:54Speaker 6: the better of them on honestly, Kirk Cousins best throw
- 55:57Speaker 6: of the game. But to have that amount of faith
- 55:59Speaker 6: in the rookie because it was still a game at
- 56:01Speaker 6: that point before the second half offensive explosion, where it's
- 56:06Speaker 6: I know that there's the rookie wall theorizers out there,
- 56:09Speaker 6: but you get Nicky Man Worriy in these situations where
- 56:13Speaker 6: they're able to provide pressure from so many different places.
- 56:15Speaker 6: It was that the vintage Seahawks were we haven't been
- 56:18Speaker 6: concerned with the defense but just in the deployment of
- 56:22Speaker 6: the talent that they have available.
- 56:24Speaker 7: It's a really good spot.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Three more quick pressures from DeMarcus Lawrence, who's turning this
- 56:29Speaker 2: from like a great story to just like is he
- 56:32Speaker 2: an All Pro this year? Like he is getting into
- 56:35Speaker 2: that with just one of my favorite players of the
- 56:37Speaker 2: last decade. And I loved hearing Jackson Smith and Jigba
- 56:40Speaker 2: after the games saying, yeah, nick Emon, worry was that
- 56:43Speaker 2: guy in practice that he's been picking on all year
- 56:46Speaker 2: because he thinks he can be special, but that he's
- 56:48Speaker 2: kind of put an X on his back. I'm going
- 56:50Speaker 2: to make you better by trying to embarrass you in practice.
- 56:52Speaker 2: And now he's out there just balling as a rookie.
- 56:55Speaker 2: So the Seahawks take care of business. Would another division
- 56:59Speaker 2: leader who is play in today, the NFD South leading
- 57:02Speaker 2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, do the same.
- 57:04Speaker 7: I've got the new right tackle is Sherman Shuck.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Oh. Here they come up to the middle.
- 57:09Speaker 8: We got away from one, he got away from Baya.
- 57:11Speaker 8: Here he goes touchdown his second touchdown run today. Shot
- 57:20Speaker 8: from thirteen Kevin how that was amazing.
- 57:32Speaker 7: Yes, it was the best of the game.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I do not know, I do not know.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Great job there by Kevin Harlan and uh Trent Green
- 57:42Speaker 2: with an excellently timed question, and oh wow, that boy
- 57:47Speaker 2: can move Tyler Shuck. What's the difference in this game
- 57:51Speaker 2: on the ground and not making many mistakes through there?
- 57:55Speaker 2: There was that one interception seven runs for fifty five
- 57:58Speaker 2: yards to touch downs from Chuck on a day that
- 58:02Speaker 2: was played in a driving rainstorm for much of the game.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Jordan's given me a curious look. Why are you giving
- 58:12Speaker 2: me such a curious look?
- 58:14Speaker 5: You know, Greg, It's just because I'm just I'm just
- 58:17Speaker 5: so confused, you know, because all I heard from you, uh,
- 58:21Speaker 5: leading up to the draft and then after Saints drafted
- 58:25Speaker 5: Tyler Schuck was that he runs from pressure. He spazzes
- 58:29Speaker 5: out against pressure. He fritz it so on that play
- 58:32Speaker 5: it looked like like he navigated pressure and then like
- 58:36Speaker 5: didn't run backwards right or get moved backwards like I'm
- 58:39Speaker 5: just making sure I'm seeing it.
- 58:41Speaker 1: He's he has done a great job using his feet.
- 58:44Speaker 2: This game might not be the best spot for that
- 58:46Speaker 2: negative twenty percent completion percentage over expected when under pressure
- 58:50Speaker 2: so much better holding onto the balls, taking sacks. But
- 58:52Speaker 2: I don't want to rain on that parade. It was
- 58:55Speaker 2: raining so hard that hurt the passing game in general.
- 58:58Speaker 2: And you said it like these like they basically were
- 59:02Speaker 2: given him. The Taysom Hill plays, there's a design run
- 59:05Speaker 2: in the first half for a touchdown, and his ability
- 59:09Speaker 2: to play well late in the fourth quarter and his
- 59:12Speaker 2: ability to run has been a total game changer for
- 59:16Speaker 2: this offense.
- 59:16Speaker 1: And he's looked better each and every week.
- 59:18Speaker 6: And it makes me kind of look back to that
- 59:20Speaker 6: last season at Louisville where he breaks his leg in
- 59:24Speaker 6: twenty twenty three. He's coming back, he's trying to play.
- 59:27Speaker 6: He's already a little bit older through this process, and
- 59:29Speaker 6: I'm wondering if our evaluation of Tyler Shuck was based
- 59:33Speaker 6: on early coming back from that broken leg and playing
- 59:37Speaker 6: on it, trying to get a chance in the NFL
- 59:39Speaker 6: where you start with Spencer Ratler for the first few
- 59:42Speaker 6: weeks of the season, and now this is the fully
- 59:44Speaker 6: formed and fully healthy Tyler Shuck playing in a mud
- 59:49Speaker 6: slop field where, yeah, the passing numbers weren't great, they
- 59:52Speaker 6: were better than Baker Mayfield.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and he had you know, a few like
- 59:57Speaker 2: just zone passes over the middle to Juwan Johnson or
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Foster Moreau. He had a few dump offs where he
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: got through his read that were good. He avoided, you know,
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: mostly big mistakes. But the plays that impressed me the
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: most in this game were his two throws to Devon
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Vley late in the game where they are trying to
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: kill clock and Kellen Moore does show a little bit
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: of faith in his young quarterback, you know, calling four
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: passes late while they're trying to kill clock, and he
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: hits Veley for thirteen yards on the sideline. Really nice throw,
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: and he keeps doing that on a third and five,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: and that was a few plays after he did a
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: very similar third down completion to Velea, and it's like
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: he's making those plays late in the game, whereas Baker
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Mayfield gets the ball back with all the time in
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: the world and they go four and out and one
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: of those four should have been an interception but just
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: was dropped by Jonah Sanker, and the Bucks go three
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: of thirteen on third down and two of seven on
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: fourth down, many of which were runs. But it was
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: another day where Baker was just not great under pressure,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: not great in terms of intermediate throws, just just not great.
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: Yeah, he's really struggling, and you're starting to see some
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: of the They've had a very few games where their
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: entire line has actually been completely healthy and complete. And
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: obviously Tristan Worth's not being a part of this one
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: as well is a factor. But yeah, he has not
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: played good football for weeks now, and yes, part of it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: You know, you have to wonder how bad is the
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: shoulder hurting him And obviously that's not the I don't
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: think that's the throwing arm of still the pain of it,
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: and all of.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: That year he ran really well. Today that was probably
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: the best thing he did. Yeah, that was good to see.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: And he has to you if you can't. He's been
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: such an inconsistent thrower. It's almost like he's trying to
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: force plays. And in the early weeks of this when
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: he I guess in a way he was still forcing
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: plays and pushing the ball.
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: It's just they were working.
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: And so that was our particularly preferred brand of Baker
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: Ball chaos, and in this case it's just not working.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: And I know, I'm I was, you know, being all
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: tongue in cheek about the Tyler Sheck thing, but I
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: think it's a It's a cool testament, Greg, And we've
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: talked about this of like how a quarterback can change
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: and grow up over the course of a season, and
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: how a lot of times it's happening on a really
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: bad football team and not a lot of people are
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: actually watching it happen.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: But I know that you've been watching his.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Tape really closely and understanding a little bit more about
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: like how he is starting to actually handle what's coming
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: at him pressure wise and seeing a lot of different
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: types of it week over week two, because other teams
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: are coming at him with that consideration of what they
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: saw on college.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a different test And the Buccaneers chose
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: to not blitz almost at all in this game, and
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: it made sense because they still got a lot of pressure.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: But like like we said, he handled it pretty well
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: for the most part. I do feel bad because early
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: in the day I just send notes as we're doing it,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: and I did have a with toating Nominefrostuck, which was interception,
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: so but this was it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Was more of a it was more of a miscommunication.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: It's just.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: His receivers stopped on the route and Alave read it differently,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: and I don't know who was that fault there, But
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: it's always just funny when he just just throw the
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: ball and there's no one else, you know in the area.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I do he played great.
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: Yeah, we've seen both Lamar and Mahomes have bumbles this
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: year where they try to get the check swing and
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: the ball comes out. That's the one where you see
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: why it happens because Shuck, he sees the receiver stop,
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: but he's already in his throwing motion.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Lay this thing out here and look, I know the
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Saints might have messed up their drafts, you know, standing
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: for a little bit right now.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: But the big takeaway here is obviously that the Bucks
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: lose this game.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: They're still in first at seven and six, now tied
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: with the Panthers, two games left against the Panthers.
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: And the Panthers sitting at home and watching, and a
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: guy who's got a chance to be the offensive rookie
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: of the year in Tedoral McMillan watching a fourth quarter
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: a Mecca Buca out and up where Baker actually does
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: get on the ball and he stonehands it right there
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: in the end zone down the stretch for a Buka.
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: It's tough.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: It's been one big drop a week enough where I
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: think it's impacted his Rookie of the Year chances for sure.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: It doesn't mean they're over.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: But that ball was maybe like a little high and
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: like a little hot, So it wasn't It wasn't quite
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: as easy as it looked when they when they did
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: show the replay, and I do have to repeat, most
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: of this game was played in the most disgusting conditions.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: It was all mud.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Everyone's uniforms were insane. There's giant divots in the ground.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: The reason why the Bucks like went two for seven
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: and fourth down is like they kept going for these
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: fourth and shorts in spots where it made sense, and
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: like you just couldn't get any push, like the traction.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: It was disgusting. There is in a great way.
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: There was no baking and as we head into a
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: break a teaser also very little cooking sunday.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Mm hmm, it is not a yet not a lot
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: of baking. Let's take a quick break, as Jordan teezed,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: and yes we'll come back on the other side. Jets don't.
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: First and ten at the twelve yard line. Bitch pay
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: hm left side trying to get a wrong.
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: Of courts back in ten pints style, Dolphins.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Patience, and then the great burst once the blocks were
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: set up to take off and get in the in zone.
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: Man, the Dolphins are having fun.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Sounds like it. Dolphins win in the Meadowlands thirty four
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: to ten.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: That was Jimmy Cefalo, Joe Rose maybe in the mix
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: on WBGG. Devon h Chan been one of the best
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: players at his position in the entire NFL.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Unfortunately got hurt in this game. Before the break.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: You made a great punt, That's what Jordan does, referring
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: to a man named Brady Cook, And it went over
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: my head in the moment.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: I was thinking of those goofy passes.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Brady Cook comes in for an injured Tyrod Taylor,
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: and that was kind of all. She wrote in a
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: game that the Miami Dolphins were dominated on offense even
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: before that.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: Yeah, well before Tyrod Taylor left the game with a
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: groin injury. Two consecutive early scoring drives spearheaded by Devon
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: a change who had an incredible start to this game,
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: left with a ribs injury, and then Mike McDaniel said
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: postgame that they held him out for the rest of
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: the game, mostly at a precaution. He could have returned
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: if it was a crucial game. He was already at
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: ninety three yard including a touchdown, and just looked magical.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: And this game was so out of hand that when
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: Tyrel Dodson made a great play on a Tyrod Taylor
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: throw a little Tyrell on Tyrod violence there he corralled
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: the ball between his knees to come down with an interception,
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: and then the Dolphins scored on the other side of that.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: So it was twenty one zero in the first quarter
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: and the Dolphins had one hundred and seventy eight yards
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: to the Jets eighteen yards. And then Brady Cook came
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: in a little bit later. Overall, the Jets scored ten
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: total points and all of them were on specialty.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Oh man, Yeah, Isaiah Williams getting it done for this,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: that Jets second.
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: Part return touchdown on the season.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was nice too. He was earned it.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: We weren't familiar with Brady Cook's work before this. Patrick,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: did you go to school? Did you earn anything?
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: Well, we were actually on that drive of the highlight
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: on Game Day Live, and so Rod goes into the
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: locker room and there's a player running out on the
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: field wearing number four, And I'm telling Steve, I'm absolutely
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: not googling who Brady Cook is right now because I
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: was behind on my sec you know, down the down
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: the standings Missouri quarterback.
- 1:07:55Speaker 7: I was not aware of Brady Cook. If I was,
- 1:07:57Speaker 7: I had forgotten he existed prior to today.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: It was part of a trend.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: This was the first week since Week eight of twenty three,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: which is, you know, October of twenty twenty three, when
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: there was more than four non first round quarterbacks playing
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: much less at the same time, much less all in
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: the early window.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: But I don't want to take away what's happening in Miami.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: They have gotten a little lucky, frankly, not just that
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: the schedule has been easy, but they had close wins
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: against the Saints in Washington. And if I'm going to
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: knock them for needing kind of a lucky play here
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: there to win each of those games, we should give
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: them some credit for just destroying the Jets sweeping the series.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: What did you like watching the Dolphins today?
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: I liked everything about their offense. I'm not kidding like that.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: I know what their season is, but I have to say,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: like since the start to the season, Mike McDaniel, I
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: think is coaching like one of the best coaches in
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: the NFL right now, and so is Anthony Weaver. And
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: the tandem really really works. And I know people could
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: hear that and grown, but go watch the games because
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: this scheme, he is doing things that are free or
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: in a sense that this is what you thought he
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: was gonna do when he took over the job. And
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: I think a lot of times coaches start coaching into
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: the ecosystem, and you heard a lot of stories about
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: players getting kind of doing whatever they wanted, and there
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: was some maybe some some voices in the room that
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: were encouraging those types of things that aren't there at
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: this moment.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: And so it's it's one of those things where it's clear.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: It is so clear, Tyreek, Hi, just say my name.
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: Well, you know they and they moved on from Jalen Ramsey,
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: who you know that I am a huge fan of
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: as a person and a player.
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: But also like it.
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: Gets tough sometimes, especially when you're losing. And so Mike McDaniel,
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: even despite the fact that they've had some real stinkers
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: of quarterback games, you can see that this scheme and
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: the way that they have these guys playing together and
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: and fun and trying things. He's got these two tight
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: ends working in a way where they're like they're working
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: every angle of the field, including.
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: Like retirement home Darren Waller.
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: They're working every leverage point and angle in the passing
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: and the running game on the field. They've got someone
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: really really special in Ollie Gordon who can come in
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: and spell and needed to today at running back. Mike
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: McDaniel is having so much fun that he's got his
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: drawstrings around his hoodie tied like a bolo tie, Like
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: this is the guy that we remember years ago coming
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: in and putting up massive scoring games against some of
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: these defenses.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: And I think they're doing a hell of a job.
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: And I want to give them props because I feel
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: like a lot of the season and rightfully so, we're
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: thinking this guy's out the door. I don't think it's
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: I don't think it's crazy to talk about him possibly
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: keeping this job at this point.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: No, we got to find out who the GM is.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: We got to see how it ends too. They have
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: the Steelers, Bengals, Bucks, and Patriots, so they'll be able
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: to write their story.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: They did get to that point.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: I've been talking about for a month that you can
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: see a scenario where they get to six and seven.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: They're playing a meaningful game. It's a Monday night game
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: against Pittsburgh. The problem is in the AFC, there's still
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: two losses behind, so they still need to run the table. Look,
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: they're they're testing the bounds of how little production they
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: can get out of to a tongue of ailoa and
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: still win a game. He goes twelve for twenty three
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: for one hundred and fifty seven yards. I think that
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: was last week. This time it's three hundred, you know,
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: thirteen for twenty one for one hundred and twenty seven yard.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: They win the game, and they haven't top two hundred
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: yards passing in a month, but they get to win
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: and they're feeling good. It's always going to feel better
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: when you're on a four game winning streak. Let's go
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: to Minnesota, where there's a team that needs to feel
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: a little better, and they were.
- 1:11:28Speaker 15: After Sunday, fourth and goal from the two, Hawkinson emotion
- 1:11:31Speaker 15: to the right, McCarthy back to pass, basketball right hot.
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: DJ bounces off touch down Jay Hawkinson.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: What a tough guy.
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: Touchdown A thirty zero.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Tough guy.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Touchdown by Paul Allen on Kfan. Well, you see like
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: the injured Commanders defender just trying to recover from what t. J.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Hockinson was thrown at him.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: I love that O'Connor went for it there on fourth down,
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: let his quarterback try to get his third touchdown of
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: the day, and he did it. The Minnesota Vikings got
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: shut out last week and they win with a shutout
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: today thirty one to nothing.
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: They get revenge against the Bagel. Welcome back to JJ McCarthy,
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: who really stepped in to all three of these touchdown throws,
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: two of them to Josh Oliver. The first one comes
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: up the seam against the Commanders defense that we had
- 1:12:28Speaker 6: seen some improvement WITHDQ calling plays and they were in
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: games they were not in this one.
- 1:12:34Speaker 7: They get Jayden Daniels back.
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: He goes nine of twenty at a bit of a
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: theme where he leaves the game with an injury to
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: the same elbow he just comes back from because he gets.
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: A huge hit on a play where.
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: Andrew Van Ginkle does Andrew van Ginkle and it's the
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: Brian Flores defense suddenly materializes and these are the plays
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: that we're used to seeing them make where aveg looks
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: like he's gonna have another pick six.
- 1:12:59Speaker 7: This problem is she's not as fast as Terry McLaurin.
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: He was looking around to see how he was gonna
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: get caught, and scary Terry comes back and gets him.
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: But then Marcus Maroota comes in the game. He's trying
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: to force the ball to zach Ertz, he gets high
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: loaded and he leaves the game with a knee injury.
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: You saw the injury on the touchdown to t J.
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: Hockinson where it just goes bad to worse for the
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: Washington Commanders. They get eliminated officially. Now mathematically, Greg you
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: don't have to worry about them being on any graphics.
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: Not sure that was going to be a concern after
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: this one either, But the Vikings, the Vikings do still
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: have an outside mathematical chance.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: They have not been eliminated. The Falcons Commanders they were.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: And it's a bummer to see Daniels leave with an injury.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: After the game, dan Quinn indicated that Daniels could have
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: come back in and we'll see about next week.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Zach Ertz.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Unfortunately, it sounds like he tore his acl They said
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: it doesn't look good. It wasn't confirmed, so you hate
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: to see that for anyone, much less a veteran like
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: zach Ertz. And yeah, Mariota comes in and throws an
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: interception on his very first throw. JJ got more help
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: today now he you know, he obviously was more under control.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: I don't know what you saw, but he also gets
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: a running game fifty percent success rate. They rack up
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: yards on the ground, and the defense plays like the
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Vikings can play defense.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: What did you see out of J Well?
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: A player again, a very young quarterback, still you know,
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: still learning things. The overstriding critique does remain. You get
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: those big steps, but when you have space in the
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: pocket and he's making those throws on time, where a
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago, you know, prior to the concussion
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: where it's it was late, he had guys open and
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: he wasn't hitting those throws.
- 1:14:40Speaker 7: He had him this time.
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: And that's the up and down experience we're going to have,
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: I think with a young quarterback where the we've seen
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: this really intense long term viability conversation about this twenty
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: three year old quarterback up and down all season long,
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: and I think we're gonna hear it probably for the
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: next couple of seasons.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: But it's he saw the growth to there, well he could,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: he could quiet it down, and I.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Think Max Brozmer's performance definitely helped set people's there that
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: did too.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: And then there was this week where like every question
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: every press conference is about how simplified the offense is
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: going to be and they're dumbing it down or what.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: I don't know what they did, but if they can
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: have a good month, that will be great for everyone involved.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: And I'd like to see Jayden Daniels, Like you don't
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: want to see him get hurt. I'd love to see
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: him either I don't know, not play or play well
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: because it has been a little bit of a story
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: here when he's played this season, it hasn't gone how
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: how they would like and it dan Quinn said they
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: weren't lost anymore, they're lost again.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I.
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: Think multiple things can be true here, which is they
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: maximize to the to such an admirable length Jade and
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: Daniels stellar rookie season, and then they waited too long
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: and assumed that they could just return all of this
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: and it would still continue to be this way.
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: But football, as Patrick likes to say, it's a spheroid.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: And it bounces all different ways in terms of your
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: injury luck, and especially has this year for the Commanders.
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: And they got older along the way, and they got
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: they got worse along the way, and they got more
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: banged up along the way. And so it's kind of
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: one of those this age old adages right in football,
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: where do you wait until it's unquestionable that you need
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: to rebuild lots of parts of this roster or do
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: you do it before you get to that point and
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: then hurt some feelings along the way. I think they
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: chose the former, obviously, and now they're going to.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Have to do some cleanup.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: And unfortunately they're going to be part of our lives
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: because they're on a Saturday, big game for the Eagles.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: There's two games against the Eagles remaining. They're on Christmas
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: against the Cowboys. So we will be watching this Commander's team.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: We will be tracking them, and we will be saying
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: thank you to the tag team of Claybonn and Jordan
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Rodrey jumping off the top rope and uh winning a
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: WWE title. I don't know, thanks guys, No problem, Greg,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Let's go to Las Vegas. Cookie's gonna be join us.
- 1:17:12Speaker 7: Elbo Kelly's coverage.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: Shack for the Broncos five and a half SATs Now
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: for John Franklin Myers.
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: Driving kick Mims on a gallop from the forty eight,
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: Marvin in trouble, steps out of a tackle, and here
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: we go. Marvin's zones play Straw Raider down the sideline,
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: twenty fifteen.
- 1:17:28Speaker 8: Ten five touchdown Marvin Mims.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: That was Dave Logan on KOA.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: When the offense isn't quite getting it done, there's a
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: whole third element of football, shook it counts, and Marvin
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Mims made a count with a big punt return touchdown
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: that gave the Broncos a fourteen to seven lead against
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: the Raiders. They win twenty four to seventeen in a
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: game that didn't feel that close. It was twenty four
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: to seven with just a couple of minutes left before
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: the Raiders tacked on some points. Take it Care of
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: business game by the Broncos. What did you find most
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: interesting from the Broncos point of view in this one?
- 1:18:11Speaker 12: I mean, Bononix is slowly but surely becoming more consistent.
- 1:18:15Speaker 12: And we saw, you know, when they played Sunday night
- 1:18:17Speaker 12: against the Commanders last week. It was an inverse bow
- 1:18:19Speaker 12: next game where he was good early and didn't have
- 1:18:21Speaker 12: a good fourth quarter. Well, he had pretty much a
- 1:18:23Speaker 12: good game all throughout. They converted a number of third
- 1:18:27Speaker 12: downs in this game. I mean they went on three
- 1:18:29Speaker 12: different drives. This is crazy. Fourteen plays eighty one yards,
- 1:18:33Speaker 12: six minutes and six or eight minutes and fifty four seconds.
- 1:18:36Speaker 12: That's their first drive, touchdown drive. Then they go on
- 1:18:38Speaker 12: a touchdown drive in the second half where it's fourteen
- 1:18:41Speaker 12: plays eighty six yards and they take up nine minutes
- 1:18:44Speaker 12: and thirteen seconds.
- 1:18:45Speaker 14: The last scoring drive took out ten minutes.
- 1:18:47Speaker 12: And seventeen seconds, and it's because they were able to
- 1:18:49Speaker 12: stay on the field by converting third downs.
- 1:18:50Speaker 14: So I mean he was consistent throughout the game.
- 1:18:53Speaker 12: He made a lot of good throws, sharp throws, a
- 1:18:55Speaker 12: little bit you know, under pressure or needs to get
- 1:18:58Speaker 12: it out, made a no look throw. Seemed like every situation.
- 1:19:01Speaker 12: This is very typical of Raider games. But it felt
- 1:19:03Speaker 12: good to watch the Broncos do this against them because
- 1:19:05Speaker 12: you have so much you know, worry about how whether
- 1:19:07Speaker 12: Knicks could be consistent or not. It's just every third down,
- 1:19:09Speaker 12: every every situation, which you felt like they had him
- 1:19:12Speaker 12: behind schedule. They might get a stop here, they didn't,
- 1:19:14Speaker 12: and a lot of that was because Bo was finding
- 1:19:15Speaker 12: guys open, giving them opportunities to catch and run and
- 1:19:17Speaker 12: continue to drive.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: The Raiders are one of the most doa teams. Oh yeah,
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: I've seen in a long time. And we'll get to
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: the end of this game because it was hilarious. But
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: to close the Broncos side of things, look, they have
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: a sixty three percent success rate. I know it's against
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: the Raiders, but that's what you got to do. Build confidence.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: RJ.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Harvey had a crazy stat in this game that he
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: had more successful runs or ten plays runs I believe,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: according to next Gen stats against an eight man box
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: than anyone in the NFL since Dereck Henry years ago.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: And so you're seeing Derek, you know, RJ. Harvey getting
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: it done on the ground and then you got your
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: full back like Sean Payton style at Apprentice is getting
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: off for a couple of plays and McLaughlin like those
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: are just things that you like to see because Harvey
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: is going to be a really important piece for them.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: They have a really difficult final month this season where yeah,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: you're the number one seed. Now you're really going to
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: be tested down the stretch. You're going to need that
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: running game.
- 1:20:14Speaker 12: Yeah, this is your last tune up game, because it's
- 1:20:16Speaker 12: good that you went out and took care of business.
- 1:20:17Speaker 12: But the next four games in your schedule are all
- 1:20:19Speaker 12: against playoff teams or teams that are in playoff contention.
- 1:20:22Speaker 12: It's going to get real difficult, real quick, and you're
- 1:20:23Speaker 12: gona have to be able to prove yourself. I do
- 1:20:25Speaker 12: like the trajectory that the Broncos have been on as
- 1:20:27Speaker 12: a team, including Bonnicks, just that they've been a little
- 1:20:30Speaker 12: bit more consistent, a little bit not predictable, but more
- 1:20:33Speaker 12: reliable than they've been for much of this season. I
- 1:20:35Speaker 12: hope that it's a precursor of good things to come.
- 1:20:37Speaker 12: We're going to find out very quickly. And again, the
- 1:20:40Speaker 12: Raiders are not a measuring stick by any means, but
- 1:20:42Speaker 12: some teams like the Broncos, who like to play with
- 1:20:44Speaker 12: their foods, who once beat the Jets, what thirteen to eleven, over.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Let's beat the Raiders ten to seven or whatever that.
- 1:20:51Speaker 12: Horror FESTI because this was not a twenty four to
- 1:20:54Speaker 12: seventeen game. This was a twenty four at best fourteen game.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: Okay, so Gino gets hurt late in the third quarter,
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: I believe maybe like the last play, just about the
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: third quarter, Kenny Pickett comes in and the Broncos, who
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: only had six drives in this game. That's crazy. By
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: the way, I've never seen a lower number, because I'm
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: not counting the nil down at the end of the
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: first half with three seconds left, they only finished with
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: six drives.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: They turn it over on downs and that whole time.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Pete Carroll is calling timeouts late in the game, after
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: Kenny Pickett, you know, leads them to a touchdown drive
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: with about two minutes and fifteen seconds left, He's calling
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: timeouts to save time even though they're down two scores.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: They have no chance.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: I guess in theory they could have scored like immediately
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: and then kicked an on side kick. But then they
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: get the ball back. At this point, it's fifty eight
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: seconds left. They're still trying to save as much time
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: as possible, and they get a delay of game penalty
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: on a throw from Picket which stops the clock with
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: about five seconds left, And what does Pete Carroll do,
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: Nick Chuck.
- 1:22:09Speaker 14: He sends out the field goal team with four seconds left. Now,
- 1:22:12Speaker 14: there's logic to this.
- 1:22:13Speaker 12: You'd think, all right, you try the field goal now
- 1:22:15Speaker 12: and try to get the on side kick. Except four
- 1:22:17Speaker 12: seconds is the amount of time that it takes to
- 1:22:19Speaker 12: kick a field goal. So as the ball goes through
- 1:22:20Speaker 12: the uprights, Daniel Carlson starts to celebrate and then he
- 1:22:23Speaker 12: sees that there's no time left in the clock and
- 1:22:25Speaker 12: he does one of these half hearted like points to
- 1:22:26Speaker 12: this guy like, ah, well, I guess we did just
- 1:22:29Speaker 12: score on the last second of the game in a
- 1:22:31Speaker 12: game that didn't matter.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Sure, that is the all time back door cover.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: If you were watching this game, to get a penalty
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: where Pickett throws it down the field which stops the
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: clock makes it easier, they could have maybe had time
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: to spike it, maybe not to set up that field goal.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: But also just Pete Carroll just just trying to make
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: his team look like they're competing and look better and
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: have anything positive to say. That's why, my friends, it
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: is dangerous to gamble, and why I'm glad, Nick Cook
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: we are not allowed to do so. But I will
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: remember this because I'm trying to win for the tenth
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: straight week on my pick Show with Cynthia Freelan and
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: I had the Broncos minus seven and a half, So
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: that did hurt me.
- 1:23:15Speaker 12: Oh bang in a big spot. You know, you can
- 1:23:18Speaker 12: blame Brandon Jones for laying on the receiver and giving
- 1:23:21Speaker 12: them that opportunity.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: What a stupid UH team. This Raiders team is just
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: just wasting our time. Let's go to UH.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: A game that was not a waste of time despite
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: it including two teams that will be picking high UH
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: in April's draft.
- 1:23:36Speaker 15: Shudkins with white Heart in the backfield, two point conversion
- 1:23:41Speaker 15: to tie back to Quinn shot, He's.
- 1:23:43Speaker 8: Gonna fake the reverse. He's got it and now he
- 1:23:45Speaker 8: may throw.
- 1:23:46Speaker 14: No, he reverses field.
- 1:23:47Speaker 15: Now he throws it back all the other way to
- 1:23:49Speaker 15: the other side and it's incomplete.
- 1:23:51Speaker 8: Oh my, what was that?
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: No.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: I love Andrew Ciciliano. He's great when they win. He's
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: great even if they fall short on a wild play.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: But Bona insisted he wanted Ceciliano's call was the better call.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: That's what we do. W k RK. The Titans survive
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: against the Browns.
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: Everyone's got to get on Kevin Stefanski for that play call,
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: but it would have worked right shook.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: I just think Judkins just didn't flip the ball.
- 1:24:22Speaker 14: He just forgot.
- 1:24:24Speaker 12: I think Judkins took that handoff. Well, it wasn't hand
- 1:24:26Speaker 12: off as a snap to him because's in the wildcat. Yeah,
- 1:24:28Speaker 12: and I had been doing They've been doing wildcat near
- 1:24:30Speaker 12: the goal line a lot, especially in the last few weeks.
- 1:24:32Speaker 14: They did earlier in this game, to limited success. I
- 1:24:34Speaker 14: think it was actually lost him in the first time
- 1:24:36Speaker 14: they ran it.
- 1:24:37Speaker 12: But I think he got the snap and took off
- 1:24:38Speaker 12: to the right and just adrenaline took over and he
- 1:24:40Speaker 12: completely forgot that he's supposed to pitch the ball in
- 1:24:42Speaker 12: the reverse because he realizes that after the fact yep,
- 1:24:45Speaker 12: and it's open on the back side. Doesn't work out.
- 1:24:47Speaker 12: Of course, your rights, the fancy's gonna come under fire.
- 1:24:49Speaker 12: It's those who are going to cherry pick criticism are
- 1:24:52Speaker 12: going to look at judors stat line, which was solid
- 1:24:54Speaker 12: twenty three or forty two, three hundred and sixty four yards,
- 1:24:57Speaker 12: three touchdowns, and they're going to say.
- 1:24:58Speaker 14: Why'd you take him off the field and then situation,
- 1:25:01Speaker 14: I understand the call. It would have worked. It's not
- 1:25:03Speaker 14: about taking Chador off the field.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: There, How did Chador look in this game because you know,
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: I see a you know, a screen pass pops for
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: a big play in the game, but also, you know
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: a nice throw that ends up being a sixty yarder
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: to Jerry Judy.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: Harold Fannin gets in.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: I thought the touchdown to in Djoku right early in
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: the game, there was a one yard throw, but a
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: nice toss and a really nice catch by in Joku
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: was a sign of a quarterback making some plays.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: What do you think of Shadar and a losing effort.
- 1:25:35Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, there were a handful of highlight throws.
- 1:25:38Speaker 12: The one to Djoku was definitely one of them. Is
- 1:25:40Speaker 12: a difficult throw. He was kind of off balance and
- 1:25:42Speaker 12: he put it in a perfect spot essentially between two defenders,
- 1:25:45Speaker 12: and the Joko makes a great diving catch.
- 1:25:47Speaker 14: That's a positive.
- 1:25:48Speaker 12: Another positive is the touchdown pass to Jerry Judy, not
- 1:25:50Speaker 12: because he just threw a touchdown pass, but because he
- 1:25:52Speaker 12: looked to his right and then came off of that
- 1:25:54Speaker 12: point in his progression, moved to the next side, saw
- 1:25:56Speaker 12: Judy coming open, and put it right on him where
- 1:25:59Speaker 12: he could catch and run through the rest of the
- 1:26:00Speaker 12: defense for a touchdown. It's a big boom for them
- 1:26:03Speaker 12: because last week Judy and Shador were seen arguing on
- 1:26:06Speaker 12: the sideline. So everything's all fine and dandy now because
- 1:26:08Speaker 12: they hooked up for a sixty yard touchdown. Those were
- 1:26:10Speaker 12: both two very good throws. The touchdown of fan and
- 1:26:13Speaker 12: kind of came in a weird set of circumstances near
- 1:26:15Speaker 12: the end of the game, so he had his moments.
- 1:26:17Speaker 12: He also ran for a touchdown out of desperation, but
- 1:26:19Speaker 12: he also did the things that Shador has done in
- 1:26:21Speaker 12: his start so far, which is hold onto the ball
- 1:26:23Speaker 12: too long, take it unnecessarious, sack, throw a prayer of
- 1:26:26Speaker 12: a pass into traffic over the middle when you're under
- 1:26:28Speaker 12: pressure and you're already holding on to it too long.
- 1:26:30Speaker 12: That ends up getting picked off and kind of swings
- 1:26:32Speaker 12: the game in the Titans favor. So you take the
- 1:26:34Speaker 12: good with the bad, and it's another very small step
- 1:26:36Speaker 12: forward for him, I think.
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: So the Browns lose this game in part because they
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: just could not stop Tony Pollard on the ground. He
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: finishes with a season best one hundred and sixty four yards,
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: and I feel bad We've had so few Titan highlights
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: on this show that weren't just crazy. Cam Ward plays
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: in a losing effort. They actually won this game. And
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: I've put a big asterisk this whole season over that
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Cardinals win. If any win in the NFL does not
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: count as a win, you know, they say a win
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: is a win. I don't know if that Titans win
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: over the Cardinals counts as a win. This counts as
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: a win. So let's listen to a positive Titans highlight.
- 1:27:12Speaker 10: A Conklow goes in motion, Pollard inside handle, twenty five,
- 1:27:16Speaker 10: twenty good sorry, goodbye, good bye.
- 1:27:19Speaker 8: That is a Titans touchdown, thirty.
- 1:27:22Speaker 15: Two more yards for Tony Pollard, and the Titans had
- 1:27:26Speaker 15: the lad back.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Back and forth they go, I mean this was a
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: score fest. Thirty one to twenty one.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: Now was Taylor Zarzer and Dave McGinnis on wg f X,
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: And it shakes up the top of the draft a
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: little bit. Right now, the Titans fall out at the
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: top spot and they are down to three. The Browns
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: are at four. I think any chance to Fanski had
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: to save his job. I don't think he has any
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: chance to save his job anyways. I think he's I
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: think he's out. But this is not gonna help give
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: me something on the Titans that you like to see.
- 1:27:57Speaker 14: I mean, I love the I.
- 1:27:58Speaker 12: Love that Tony Pollard got going because I'm a big
- 1:28:00Speaker 12: Tony Pollard guy, and I feel like he's been in
- 1:28:01Speaker 12: a rough spot with them and they're inconsistent offensive line.
- 1:28:04Speaker 12: He's making seven and a quarter a year, a million dollars,
- 1:28:07Speaker 12: and I just feel like he hasn't gotten the opportunity
- 1:28:08Speaker 12: to really prove that he's worth that money. So it
- 1:28:10Speaker 12: was great to see him pop off some big runs today,
- 1:28:12Speaker 12: especially against a Browns defense that seemingly lost contained second level.
- 1:28:16Speaker 12: Was a rough job for them, and so it's good
- 1:28:18Speaker 12: for him to thrive. It was also a snowy day
- 1:28:20Speaker 12: in Cleveland. Cam Ward only completed fifty percent of his passes.
- 1:28:23Speaker 12: He led a very impressive opening scoring drive where he
- 1:28:25Speaker 12: hit Iomanna for a touchdown from fourteen yards out to
- 1:28:29Speaker 12: give them an early lead.
- 1:28:30Speaker 14: He handled the pressure of the job, I think pretty well.
- 1:28:33Speaker 12: Ultimately, the Browns defense did cost some issues for him,
- 1:28:35Speaker 12: so it was nice for Pollard to be that balance.
- 1:28:37Speaker 12: But more than anything, I'm just glad the Titans played
- 1:28:40Speaker 12: a complete game as a team. This is probably one
- 1:28:42Speaker 12: of the best performances they've had this year, not just
- 1:28:43Speaker 12: because it was only their second win. They just looked
- 1:28:46Speaker 12: like a competent team, which is what I haven't been
- 1:28:48Speaker 12: able to say that about them in a number of
- 1:28:49Speaker 12: different games. And I feel good for guys like cam
- 1:28:51Speaker 12: Ward who has too often been sent to the podium
- 1:28:54Speaker 12: after a loss and had to explain why his team
- 1:28:56Speaker 12: is terrible.
- 1:28:56Speaker 14: Today, you were not terrible. Congratulations Titans on the Yeah,
- 1:29:01Speaker 14: it's been a brutal year.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: Shout out to Jeffrey Simmons, who had eleven pressures in
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: this game, one and a half sacks, actually two sacks.
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: I don't count half sacks in my book. That is
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: two sacks three quarterback hits. So he was the best
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: defensive lineman in a game that included Miles Garrett, who,
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: by the way, had the lowest pass rush win rate
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: according to PFF of his entire career, no second lowest.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: He only had one pressure, but it was a sack,
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: so he moved forward in the race to break that
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: sack record. He is three and a half away. It's
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: gonna be tight, but he did get that one. Simmons,
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: by the way, a couple run stuff too. He has
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: been awesome, probably an All Pro this year, which is
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: crazy considering he's on the Titans.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Let's take one break. But Shook, you're staying with me.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: We're going to wrap up.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: I said at the top of the show, we had
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: six massive games that would really shape these playoff races.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: We got one more to go. It's Texans Chiefs.
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: Ten for the Chiefs eighte. It's punch Mahomes to throw
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: four man rush.
- 1:30:04Speaker 13: Mahomes unloads downfield and chipped and intercepted this.
- 1:30:09Speaker 8: He's al Shire has it up to deflection. Another pick
- 1:30:13Speaker 8: for the game for Houston.
- 1:30:18Speaker 13: Wow, Kelsea could not hang on as he's got it
- 1:30:23Speaker 13: hot potato pick and the Texans have the ball in
- 1:30:27Speaker 13: Chiefs territory again.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: In that time, the Texans would take advantage with the
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: game ceiling Kaimi Fairbairn field goal.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: The Texans win twenty to ten.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: That was Mark Vandermere on k I l t in
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: what we might have seen tonight, Chuckie was the end
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: of the Chief's dominance over this conference, at least for
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: this season. But I wanted to start with that play
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: because it's about a Texans defense performance to really top
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: all of them that they've had this year. In the
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: fourth quarter of this game. The Chiefs had the ball
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: five times. They had one first down and that was
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: in on the garbage time drive before they just spiked it.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes picked off three times. The balls just a
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: little inside there, but Kelsey could have made the catch.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: But he doesn't make the catch, and it's the Texans
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: who are Johnny on the spot. What a fourth quarter?
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: It was the last fourth quarter I expected shook because
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: at that point in the game, the Chiefs seem like
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: they were rolling. And I guess this is just how
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: it ends for great teams. And yes, the Texans maybe
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: they could be a great team too. We know they
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: have a great defense.
- 1:31:44Speaker 12: Kind of reminds me of the way the Patriots lost
- 1:31:46Speaker 12: their last playoff game that Tom Brady era right twenty
- 1:31:49Speaker 12: nineteen against Tennessee. I remember that being a similar I
- 1:31:52Speaker 12: don't know, I'll go out with a bit of a
- 1:31:53Speaker 12: whimper instead of a shout or an actual fight.
- 1:31:56Speaker 14: Oh look, you're right.
- 1:31:57Speaker 12: The Chiefs were dominating the Texans offense in the third quarter.
- 1:32:00Speaker 12: I mean, Nick Hayley seemed to have no answer for
- 1:32:02Speaker 12: what Steve Spagnola was dialing up to the point where
- 1:32:04Speaker 12: I'm watching it laughing like just chuckling out loud because
- 1:32:07Speaker 12: I'm thinking, how can you not anticipate these many blitzer
- 1:32:09Speaker 12: that Steve Spagnola was going to send against your offense?
- 1:32:12Speaker 14: Adjust?
- 1:32:13Speaker 12: Guess what they didn't need to adjust because their defense
- 1:32:15Speaker 12: took care of business, forcing Andy Reid into uncomfortable situations.
- 1:32:19Speaker 12: Fourth down decisions they gotta go. They're deep in their
- 1:32:21Speaker 12: own territory. Guess who doesn't get the first down? The
- 1:32:23Speaker 12: Chiefs wide because they ran into the Texans fantastic defense,
- 1:32:27Speaker 12: gives their offense to shortfield.
- 1:32:28Speaker 14: They capitalize, and then they steal the deal. This is
- 1:32:30Speaker 14: Texans football in twenty twenty five.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Baby, I'm glad you mentioned that Andy Reid made decisions
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: that Andy Reid would not normally make. Yes, you could
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: tell that they felt that they needed this, they needed
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: to do something different, and the sequence you're talking about
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: was so telling. They get a fourth and one situation
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: was more like one and a half after Mahomes just
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: runs over a disase.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I'll say here, if if I had.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Just tackled Mahomes in the right spot they're punting there,
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: I don't know how this game goes.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: But instead Mahomes kind of runs him over.
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: He gets about a yard short, and they decide to
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: go for it on their own thirty one yard line,
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: but there's pretty quick pressure. The guys are ready on
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: the interior, ready to stop Mahomes from possibly scrambling forward.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: He steps up in the pocket, it's an incomplete pass
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: and the Texans takeover. And I do want to point
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: out that sequence because you know what happened right after
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: that is the Texans actually took advantage.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: CJ.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: Stroud pulled off a great third down conversion and then
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: they ran the ball right down the Chiefs throats to
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: get the touchdown to go up seventeen to ten. So
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: as bad as the Texans offense looked for parts of
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: this game, and you're right, they had negative yardage in
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: the third quarter.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: It was one hundred and twenty eight yards to negative two.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: They have had these little moments in the last six
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: weeks where they look normal and they don't look fully normal.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: But in the first half of this game they put
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: up two hundred yards that's pretty normal. And then in
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: the fourth quarter they at least had that one drive
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: and they did get a couple first downs before the
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: game ceiling field goal. Where they're just good enough and
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: then they let their defense carry them the rest of
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: the way.
- 1:34:14Speaker 14: Exactly.
- 1:34:15Speaker 12: Their offense is not going to be the most adaptable,
- 1:34:17Speaker 12: the most versatile that you're going to see among teams
- 1:34:19Speaker 12: that are fighting for a playoff spot this year. But
- 1:34:21Speaker 12: that is fine because when you pair that, when you
- 1:34:23Speaker 12: couple that with an elite defense like the Texans have
- 1:34:25Speaker 12: this year, it doesn't matter. All you have to do
- 1:34:27Speaker 12: is buy them more opportunities and give them the short
- 1:34:29Speaker 12: fields that they gave them tonight, and they're gonna be
- 1:34:31Speaker 12: an ever game. Which is why I have a lot
- 1:34:32Speaker 12: of confidence in the Texans. Why I think that this
- 1:34:34Speaker 12: five game winning streak that they've put together is not
- 1:34:37Speaker 12: a fluke. It is just indicative of a team that can,
- 1:34:39Speaker 12: that has a defense that travels and can play with anybody,
- 1:34:42Speaker 12: and it can shut down anybody. I mean, look, I
- 1:34:45Speaker 12: know the Chiefs have been going through it this year, right,
- 1:34:47Speaker 12: this has been a struggle field season for them. That's
- 1:34:49Speaker 12: how you end up at six and seven at this
- 1:34:50Speaker 12: point in the year. But I haven't seen their offense
- 1:34:52Speaker 12: this flummixed. Travis Kelce, this just speechless, mystified, has no
- 1:34:57Speaker 12: answer for what's going on. Patrick Mahomes looking this respondent
- 1:35:00Speaker 12: and dare I say dejected by the end of this game.
- 1:35:03Speaker 14: Maybe? Ever, that's what an elite defense can do to
- 1:35:06Speaker 14: a team like that in a big spot.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Yeah, let's talk a little bit about Jalen Petrie here.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: So in the first half of this game, the Texans
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: play fantastic. They go into halftime leading ten to nothing.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: It was the first time Patrick Mahomes had been shut
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: out since the AFC Championship Game three years ago, now
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: first time in the regular season since twenty twenty one,
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: and part of that was Jalen Petrie and one of
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: the plays on defense of the season.
- 1:35:38Speaker 13: Second and nine for the Chiefs from their thirty six
- 1:35:40Speaker 13: But Checko in motion to the left as Mahomes takes
- 1:35:43Speaker 13: the snap, looking firing over the middle.
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: Tip down.
- 1:35:47Speaker 13: Petrie with the pick, a diving effort at the forty
- 1:35:51Speaker 13: five yard line.
- 1:35:53Speaker 8: Chips and overthrows.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: We gotta get those, and the Texans get it.
- 1:35:58Speaker 8: The deflected interception.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: Great call.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: But when I think tips and overthrows, I think almost
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: like a lucky tip over the middle. That was a
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: great pass defense by Petrie to get it up in
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: the air and then to track the ball and actually
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: intercept it himself, diving like like a baseball player.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: There was incredible.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: And you think about that play, and then you think
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: about the hit that he had on Rashid Rice in
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: the second half. I know you were loving that. It
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: looked like Rice might have caught that ball. It's a
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: first down to start the drive late in the third quarter,
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: and he absolutely truck sticks.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Him so many good plays.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: I know you were loving this play, Schook, and I
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: know you gotta be loving Petrie, who, to me, I
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: think cemented an all pro slot position tonight with the
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: performance that he had.
- 1:36:46Speaker 12: Absolutely nobody embodies this Houston defense, and there's swarm mentality
- 1:36:49Speaker 12: more than Jalen Petrie.
- 1:36:50Speaker 14: It's because of hits like that.
- 1:36:51Speaker 12: That is a clean throwback football hit made by a
- 1:36:54Speaker 12: defender who's out to let you know that you're not
- 1:36:57Speaker 12: getting any three yards. I'm breaking up your pass attempt.
- 1:37:00Speaker 12: I'm gonna put you flat on the ground. You might
- 1:37:03Speaker 12: ragdall down to the ground like Rashee Rice did there.
- 1:37:05Speaker 12: That's classic old school football. We don't see it nearly
- 1:37:07Speaker 12: as much as we used to, for better and for worse,
- 1:37:09Speaker 12: But tonight Petri set the tone with a hit like that,
- 1:37:12Speaker 12: and I think you know, if anything, on the national stage,
- 1:37:15Speaker 12: Texans have been there a few times this year. They've
- 1:37:16Speaker 12: been good in some spots, they've been bad in others. Tonight,
- 1:37:19Speaker 12: that hit alone sends the message that everybody's gonna remember
- 1:37:21Speaker 12: when they think of these Texans defense now, which is, oh,
- 1:37:23Speaker 12: we got to take them seriously. They must be respected
- 1:37:25Speaker 12: because they can flatten us like that.
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: Well, you know who might have remembered it, You never know.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: Fourth down later in the fourth quarter, Mahomes knows the
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: play is kind of collapsing and he finds Rashee Rice
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: throws it a little early. It's a great throw, and
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: Rashi Rice, like he's done a lot during this stretch run,
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: just drops it.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: I'm not saying that the Jalen Petrie hit made him.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: Drop it, but he dropped it, and I mean, yeah,
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: like it just the culmination of having to play this
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: Texans defense who's banged up at safety. But you think
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: about the plays from the secondary. Kamari Lassiter with a
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: great interception on what was kind of an arm punt
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: by Mahomes in the second half to start that fourth quarter,
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: Kamari Lassiter tracking down Taekwon Thornton on a deep shot
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: where it looked like he was beat but great makeup speed.
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: They just got playmakers up front, and so on a
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: night where the Chiefs were short three offensive linemen, like
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: obviously that played into Patrick Mahomes finishing fourteen for thirty three.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: It's I can't believe I'm looking at that number.
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: That played into Patrick Mahomes going ten straight passes with
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: an incompletion or an interception in the fourth quarter, like
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: that was part of it. But man, uh Like, I
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: just think the Texans defense puts so much pressure on
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: you just because of their talent, not because of their
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: play calling necessarily, but because of their talent, and the
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: Chiefs ultimately buckled.
- 1:38:53Speaker 12: Yeah, and I can give credit on both sides here
- 1:38:55Speaker 12: because I think that the offensive line absences, while they
- 1:38:57Speaker 12: were a problem, it didn't look that much different than
- 1:38:59Speaker 12: what we seen from the Chiefs for good portions of
- 1:39:01Speaker 12: this season.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Play.
- 1:39:03Speaker 12: The replacement at left packle I thought, did a really
- 1:39:05Speaker 12: good job for most of the night, much better than
- 1:39:06Speaker 12: I anticipated that he would.
- 1:39:08Speaker 14: But you know, we've given the Texans all the credit
- 1:39:10Speaker 14: in the world.
- 1:39:11Speaker 12: Well, I'm also going to take a little bit of
- 1:39:12Speaker 12: credit away, not intentionally, but just because this is one
- 1:39:15Speaker 12: of those games of the Chiefs, but they just didn't
- 1:39:16Speaker 12: make the plays they needed to make. This is the
- 1:39:18Speaker 12: game where they didn't do the things that they've done
- 1:39:21Speaker 12: so often over the last decade that has led them
- 1:39:23Speaker 12: to success, that has led them to three Super Bowl tribes,
- 1:39:26Speaker 12: to all these appearances in AFC title games, in winning
- 1:39:30Speaker 12: the AFC West for a decade straight. They dropped passes
- 1:39:33Speaker 12: on fourth down, A lot of passes out of mahomes
- 1:39:35Speaker 12: hand looked strange, a lot of nose diving out of
- 1:39:38Speaker 12: his hand tonight, which I think handered their ability to
- 1:39:40Speaker 12: complete some of those passes in key spots. He was
- 1:39:43Speaker 12: a little bit inaccurate at times, didn't seem like he
- 1:39:45Speaker 12: was entirely on the same page as some of this guys.
- 1:39:47Speaker 12: You mentioned the interception off of Kelsey's hands that was
- 1:39:49Speaker 12: a bit behind him, just uncharacteristic of him. So that
- 1:39:52Speaker 12: explains that stat line. I'm not surprised to see that
- 1:39:54Speaker 12: stat line. But for those who have watched Patrick Mahomes
- 1:39:56Speaker 12: over the course of his entire career, you'll look at
- 1:39:59Speaker 12: Tonight's performing, You'll look at those numbers and go, God,
- 1:40:01Speaker 12: what did they replace him with?
- 1:40:02Speaker 14: A body double? That's not who he is, and that's
- 1:40:04Speaker 14: what the Texans defense can do to you.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: And he was their leading rusher.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: They decided not to hand the ball off to Kareem
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: Hunt in that key fourth down situation. Ultimately, the two
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: Chiefs running backs both finished with under three and a
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: half yards per carry Hunt and Pacheco, and that the
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: defense and Chris Jones was up for the challenge to
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: start the third quarter.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: But I do go back to that CJ.
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: Stroud throw to Jayden Higgins on third down where Chris
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: Jones looks like he's gonna pull c J.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: Stroud down, but c J. Stroud evades it gets the
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: first down. Great throw.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: I thought just avoiding the sack would have been huge
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: because they're trying to kick a field goal there, and
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: instead he gets the first down, they end up with
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: a touch That's a big time play. And look, he
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: had eight straight incompletions at one point two. The conditions
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: were not good for throwing. It's freezing there, but he
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: had a good first half and he made enough plays
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: down the stretch to win it.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: What a moment here in this season.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: They are six and seven the Kansas City Chiefs, and
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: they are gonna need to win out, they're gonna need
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: to beat both teams in the AFC West, the Chargers
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: and the Broncos, to have any chance to make the playoffs.
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: They're gonna need to get to ten and seven, and
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: they're gonna need to get help. There's not a lot
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: of reason to think they're gonna do all of that. Then,
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: I really felt like when you're watching Patrick Mahomes with
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: his hands on his head after one of those fourth
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: down fails, like a moment in time, in part because
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: the AFC is so deep this year, and I don't
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: know if teams like the Texans are gonna lose enough
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: for the Chiefs to catch up.
- 1:41:34Speaker 12: It's all about catching fire at the right time, and
- 1:41:36Speaker 12: the Chiefs they hit their stride for a brief period, but.
- 1:41:38Speaker 14: That feels like ages ago.
- 1:41:40Speaker 12: And I know it's shocking for us to consider a
- 1:41:41Speaker 12: reality in which we'd go into a postseason that doesn't
- 1:41:43Speaker 12: include the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 1:41:44Speaker 14: But everything changes eventually.
- 1:41:46Speaker 12: Nothing is forever in this league or in life, and
- 1:41:49Speaker 12: I think the Chiefs are realizing that right now with
- 1:41:52Speaker 12: everything that's happened. I'm not gonna count them out yet,
- 1:41:54Speaker 12: I'm not gonna bury it.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: I know it's annoying. It is a little annoying, like
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: this felt final, and yet you look at it. They
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: are two losses behind the Texans, but now they're down
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: the tiebreaker. They're gonna really have to just win those
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: division games, win out. It seems unlikely, but they'll be
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: rooting Monday night while we're watching and doing our show.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: It's not gonna be live on YouTube this week, but
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: they'll be rooting against the Chargers because they need the
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Chargers to lose some games here down the stretch. And
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: the Texans now at eight and five for now are
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: in the AFC playoffs, and they're looking at the other
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: team that's eight and five out of the wild card,
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: like the Colts, and they're thinking, hmm, that next Colts
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: game looking a little easier right now because of what
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: happened on Sunday.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: The season is a long one. We thought this Texans
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: team was in deep trouble. They are full of badasses.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: I'm so who can they.
- 1:42:45Speaker 14: Think, Greg, Who can they thank for getting back here?
- 1:42:47Speaker 14: Who started at all? Tell me right now, Davis Mills,
- 1:42:51Speaker 14: respect neck.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: I know you were gonna say, Jordan rod reeg for
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: picking them to make the Super Bowl before the season.
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: It's still alive in this AFC. Every thing is still
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: alive before we go. You also want to know who's
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: a bunch of badasses. Eric Roberts deserve to go to
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Buffalo and see his team win a big time game.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: And so it really says a lot about Eric Roberts
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: that he left the show in the hands of a
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: very worthy group of men. It's not only Chris Babona
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: who is doing it tonight. It's it's Abu Kamara, It's
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: Devin Harris, like the whole group back there making it
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: run seamlessly. Maybe too seamlessly for Eric's hopes, you know,
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: but it shows that he's building a coaching tree here
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: and they can run a top shelf game, or at
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: least recap anytime he's gone.
- 1:43:39Speaker 14: Can a producer get wally pipped?
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: No, No, I don't like where this is gone. I
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: did it. I'm sorry. Hit the music. We're so overdue
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: to hit the music.
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: But yes, thanks to Devin and Aboo and Chris Babona
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: and of course Jordan Rodrigue and Patrick Clayban and my
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: man Shook. Like I said, we're gonna be recapping a
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: really fun Chargers Eagles matchup.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: On Monday night. We're not going on YouTube this time around,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: so check that out in the feed. Can't wait for it.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: See that
