- 0:37Speaker 3: in Venice, Louisiana. Now, I just took the hosting spot

- 0:44Speaker 3: two podcasts in one day.
- 0:46Speaker 4: No, it's because I had it.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Oh man, you beat me too, because I was gonna say,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we're gonna see.
- 0:50Speaker 3: How long it's gonna taken till I get interrupted as
- 0:53Speaker 3: I'm trying to host.
- 0:54Speaker 4: By saying the wrong thing is a sure way it's
- 0:57Speaker 4: gonna happen. Okay, I ate a black and shrimp po boy,
- 1:01Speaker 4: and it's kind of knocked me out. Did I not
- 1:06Speaker 4: just say that? No, he got tired from his lunch.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Today, I'm joined by Steve Arino, Antonio Marco, and Chester Reno.
- 1:18Speaker 3: On today's show, We've got live Chettickut with Chester the
- 1:22Speaker 3: non Digester.
- 1:23Speaker 1: We'll get to that. That's his new nickname because he
- 1:27Speaker 1: almost died choking last night. Well, we got to it.
- 1:30Speaker 3: We'll hit our top three fish meals or maybe just
- 1:33Speaker 3: one that we had this week. Hot tips, one minute fishing,
- 1:37Speaker 3: which turns out to be like ten or fifteen minutes
- 1:40Speaker 3: of fishing, bad fishing, Tattoos, a rut report from Mark
- 1:46Speaker 3: Kenyon coming to you in early October.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Well, everybody can kind of guess how that's gonna go.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And indefensible laws, and all three of these guys have
- 1:56Speaker 3: an indefensible law they're gonna pitch to us today. So
- 2:00Speaker 3: start right off the top with Chettickut. What are you
- 2:05Speaker 3: also gonna come on in? But are you gonna tell
- 2:07Speaker 3: us also how you got the new nickname before we
- 2:10Speaker 3: go to Chetticut.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Okay, while you put that headset on Chester, I'm gonna
- 2:15Speaker 5: pay play the The c T t Q you e
- 2:18Speaker 5: t t E fnd out bud means to me, C
- 2:21Speaker 5: g t i Q you E t t E take
- 2:24Speaker 5: care of a g T.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That's a good one, Phil, Thank you?
- 2:32Speaker 6: All right.
- 2:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm down here in Louisiana. I'm gonna give you
- 2:38Speaker 7: a chetta kit that I always do. I'm not sitting
- 2:41Speaker 7: at my campfire in Wisconsin, but I'll talk about uh
- 2:45Speaker 7: choking a little bit.
- 2:46Speaker 6: We had some prime Rib.
- 2:48Speaker 7: You guys were there as you know, and I got
- 2:52Speaker 7: asked a question and I was like, I don't know,
- 2:56Speaker 7: just trying to answer the question. So I took about
- 2:58Speaker 7: too quick choose that prime rib swallowed it and I
- 3:03Speaker 7: sat there and I kind of knew it was in
- 3:05Speaker 7: my throat, but I've never choked before, so I started
- 3:09Speaker 7: going just swallowing.
- 3:12Speaker 6: These big deep swallows, and it was still there.
- 3:20Speaker 7: And then I went, oh, and then all of a sudden,
- 3:23Speaker 7: I'm sitting at the table with all these wonderful guests
- 3:26Speaker 7: that we have down here for this Experience's trip, and.
- 3:29Speaker 6: A bunch of shit comes up my nose, oh.
- 3:33Speaker 7: Like like fluid, because I was I think I had
- 3:37Speaker 7: some like you know, just like I don't know, it
- 3:40Speaker 7: was like snot basically, no, that would have, not that
- 3:45Speaker 7: horse radish that would have anyways. So basically I was
- 3:50Speaker 7: like like my body was like get that thing out.
- 3:54Speaker 7: So it was doing its best, and uh when I
- 3:58Speaker 7: kind of went to take a breath, it was like,
- 4:02Speaker 7: you know, like then it was like felt like it
- 4:04Speaker 7: was locked in. So I was embarrassed, Like you know,
- 4:10Speaker 7: everyone's like looking kind of like doing one of these
- 4:14Speaker 7: almost they were because they didn't really know me, and.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I'm I wouldn't if I was there, I would not
- 4:18Speaker 4: have done.
- 4:19Speaker 7: And I well, I think they were just trying to
- 4:22Speaker 7: be polite. They didn't know what was happening. They thought
- 4:24Speaker 7: it was maybe coughing or do you know, And I like,
- 4:28Speaker 7: you know, probably sprayed them a little bit with the snot.
- 4:31Speaker 7: And so I get up and I walk outside.
- 4:35Speaker 4: In the dark. All this time, you're still choking.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Mm hmmm. So I go out there.
- 4:40Speaker 4: What's the what's the time spam?
- 4:42Speaker 8: We're talking here ten seconds of choking, five seconds of choking.
- 4:45Speaker 7: It's like fifteen seconds maybe something like that quick.
- 4:52Speaker 6: So it all happened real quick.
- 4:54Speaker 7: Then I head out there and I'm sitting by the
- 4:57Speaker 7: garbage and I'm like, I just like tried to give
- 4:59Speaker 7: it everything I had, like you know, to get it up,
- 5:03Speaker 7: like trying to go hopper down up hawk the biggest thing,
- 5:06Speaker 7: and my body kind of just naturally when I did that,
- 5:12Speaker 7: you know, kicked it out, kicked it out with some.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Vomit, and like that's kind of scary.
- 5:19Speaker 7: And then a couple of people saw me and came
- 5:22Speaker 7: out there, and Steeve made a comment that's like one
- 5:25Speaker 7: of the ways people people go when.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I'll share my own testimonial, I was standing outside a
- 5:34Speaker 4: restaurant one night talking to my friend who smoked cigarettes.
- 5:37Speaker 4: So we had to stand outside and doorbus open and
- 5:41Speaker 4: out spills a man and he makes the universal choking
- 5:46Speaker 4: gesture to us, and he had and so I later
- 5:49Speaker 4: been telling the story, was told by people that it's
- 5:51Speaker 4: common for choking people to do counterintuitive moves like that.
- 6:00Speaker 4: So he bursts outside and I heim licked him out
- 6:03Speaker 4: in the parking lot, and uh, I hit him good.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And we looked for that chunk of steak, couldn't find it. Now.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Prior to that, I know it sounds weird, but prior
- 6:17Speaker 3: to that experience, you probably would be interested in to
- 6:20Speaker 3: see what size of steak it would.
- 6:24Speaker 9: Y.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah, choke.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Prior to that experience, I had occasion a number of
- 6:30Speaker 4: times to hang out with doctor Heimlick's granddaughter. What I
- 6:37Speaker 4: didn't bring up with her is that heim Lick, uh
- 6:43Speaker 4: when got a little off the deep end and started
- 6:48Speaker 4: to think that the Heimlich maneuver fixed all kinds of things.
- 6:54Speaker 4: He started to think it was like a panacea. Hmm.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Interesting, So if you're choking, don't run outside there's nobody.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Stay inside show everybody.
- 7:10Speaker 3: You're choking, have someone help you out right inside Chester.
- 7:15Speaker 7: Okay, Yeah, So this week's Chetta Kit comes at us
- 7:18Speaker 7: from Tyler and Tyler writes, A week ago, my brother,
- 7:23Speaker 7: a friend, and I set out for a week long
- 7:26Speaker 7: backcountry mule deer hunt in Washington. We reached the trailhead
- 7:30Speaker 7: three nights before the season opener, slept on cots, and
- 7:33Speaker 7: then packed in the next morning. We hiked about ten miles,
- 7:38Speaker 7: gained several thousand feet of elevation with with eight days
- 7:41Speaker 7: of food and gear in our backs, and then we
- 7:44Speaker 7: set up camp in the same spot that they had
- 7:46Speaker 7: set up last year off of a spur trail. Pretty detailed,
- 7:51Speaker 7: I thought, I shortened that down.
- 7:52Speaker 4: A little bit, like it's really put me in the
- 7:55Speaker 4: in the mood.
- 7:55Speaker 7: The day before the season, while at camp and outfitter
- 7:58Speaker 7: with two guides and four clients arrived on horseback. We
- 8:03Speaker 7: overheard them cursing at us about being in quotes their spot.
- 8:08Speaker 7: I assume they moved on, but they lingered for thirty
- 8:11Speaker 7: minutes to an hour until two more pack strings arrived,
- 8:15Speaker 7: each with a horse leading five mules. They set up
- 8:21Speaker 7: a large wall tent just twenty yards from us. This
- 8:24Speaker 7: area is dispersed camping and not designated campground. Not only
- 8:30Speaker 7: did the outfitter disrupt our spot, but it also violated
- 8:34Speaker 7: the twelve heartbeat wilderness rule, trying to bypass it by
- 8:39Speaker 7: splitting up into three groups of twelve, six.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Humans and six animals. Does that make sense?
- 8:46Speaker 4: Yep?
- 8:48Speaker 7: So this guy's asking am I wrong for feeling upset?
- 8:52Speaker 7: And is it poor etiquette by the outfitter? Or am
- 8:55Speaker 7: I overreacting? So I think that he's not wrong for
- 9:01Speaker 7: feeling upset. If I were in a camp spot up
- 9:04Speaker 7: there and an outfitter rolled in, and that'd be a bummer.
- 9:09Speaker 7: You know, they were in there the year before. But
- 9:15Speaker 7: I mean the outfitter obviously is breaking a rule. You know,
- 9:19Speaker 7: sounds like he's got too many people.
- 9:21Speaker 4: He's trying to be cut acting like there's yeah, there
- 9:24Speaker 4: are multiple groups.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Yeah. So I mean this guy is not wrong for
- 9:27Speaker 6: feeling upset.
- 9:28Speaker 7: I mean my question to him would be like did
- 9:31Speaker 7: you did you talk to the guy or did you
- 9:33Speaker 7: just end up camping next to each other for a week.
- 9:35Speaker 6: Lot and being pissed off?
- 9:39Speaker 7: But I think these outfitters, you know, who knows if
- 9:43Speaker 7: they cleared out this spot. A lot of outfitters kind
- 9:47Speaker 7: of do that year after year, but it sounds like
- 9:49Speaker 7: they weren't in there the year before. But yeah, I
- 9:53Speaker 7: would just go talk to the dude. If it were me,
- 9:56Speaker 7: I wouldn't want to be set up next to that
- 9:58Speaker 7: many people, so I would probably rel okay it a
- 10:00Speaker 7: little bit.
- 10:01Speaker 6: But we're not wrong.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Went to talk to him, how would you kicked it off?
- 10:08Speaker 4: I'd be like, hell of a nice uh.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Like I would have talked to him right away before
- 10:14Speaker 7: they started setting up, yea, And I would have said,
- 10:17Speaker 7: you know, we're here, Is there anywhere else you guys
- 10:20Speaker 7: can camp?
- 10:22Speaker 6: And then go from there?
- 10:23Speaker 3: H Well, look, when you're eight miles back in the wilderness,
- 10:28Speaker 3: there's plenty of room for six people to hunt, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 3: six different directions, so you should try to If you're
- 10:36Speaker 3: stuck in what's kind of a shitty situation, you might
- 10:38Speaker 3: as well work with him and try to make the
- 10:40Speaker 3: best of it, which would be at least be like, Okay,
- 10:42Speaker 3: which direction you guys hunting? What do you guys normally do?
- 10:45Speaker 1: And at least try to make a plan on the
- 10:48Speaker 1: map where you weren't going to hunt on top of
- 10:50Speaker 1: each other.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Yeah, so I don't know. I think I think that
- 10:55Speaker 7: you know, in this situation, you're not wrong for feeling upset.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Go talk to the fella in make a plan.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Thanks Chester.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Uh yeah, I'm gonna head out now and take a nap.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Chester also had a big sandwich, but that's not why
- 11:18Speaker 3: he needs to take a nap right now. He was
- 11:20Speaker 3: entertaining the experiences.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Clients has been doing the night shift.
- 11:25Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, a little bit of music involved.
- 11:29Speaker 3: All right, we're on the top threes. Well it's gonna
- 11:32Speaker 3: be top threes today. We're gonna do top three fish meals.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But I think we should just do top fish meal
- 11:37Speaker 3: that we've had this week during me eater experiences.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Who wants to go first?
- 11:43Speaker 8: I'm voting for last night because I loved the fried fish.
- 11:48Speaker 8: I love the redfish nuggets as the appetizer. I really
- 11:52Speaker 8: liked that lobster like blackened lobster pasta. And then this
- 11:55Speaker 8: isn't the fish part, but the peach cobbler with ice
- 11:58Speaker 8: cream is some of the best I've ever had.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Great, And and you missed the crawfish at you fe
- 12:05Speaker 3: that we put on top of the catfish Oh that
- 12:08Speaker 3: was last night, wasn't it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think that was my favorite.
- 12:11Speaker 4: I love et Fae, my favorite that we had last night.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And if I was a real if, I know, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 4: I quit drinking. If I had quit drinking like how
- 12:23Speaker 4: a lot of people do, which is like a difficult
- 12:25Speaker 4: process for them, I would have relapsed. I would have
- 12:28Speaker 4: had a relapse because of the oyster shooters. I didn't
- 12:31Speaker 4: realize that that oyster was floating in a bloody mary.
- 12:36Speaker 4: I just thought it was floating in some kind of
- 12:37Speaker 4: red sauce. So I drank a couple and there was
- 12:40Speaker 4: like a nice burn to it, and then I realized
- 12:43Speaker 4: that it was a raw oyster floating in a stiffy
- 12:47Speaker 4: floating in a little bloody mary. That was good before
- 12:51Speaker 4: you changed it, and it was gonna be best fish
- 12:53Speaker 4: of all time. I was going to say, those those
- 12:59Speaker 4: grilled river fish down in South America when they put
- 13:01Speaker 4: him on that rack and smoke.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Them, was that seasoning that they like to use down there?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Remember that they all carried around a little vial.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yep, that's right. It was was from a pepper that
- 13:12Speaker 4: grew in their gardens, That's right. And then when for
- 13:16Speaker 4: this is just so, folks, No, it started out I
- 13:18Speaker 4: was gonna be able to pick three fish things, and
- 13:22Speaker 4: then I was going to quit at two and I
- 13:26Speaker 4: got reduced to none. So those were your two were
- 13:30Speaker 4: the oyster shooters, and then the one was when you
- 13:32Speaker 4: changed that. The one was what I was going to use.
- 13:34Speaker 4: And I'm not even going to get into the other
- 13:36Speaker 4: favorite fish meal of mine.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Go on, Okay, Tony favorite fish meal this week?
- 13:42Speaker 4: Sure, yeah he can't. No, I know, but we've had
- 13:45Speaker 4: shrimp ten different ways.
- 13:48Speaker 10: Well are you You just asked me about my favorite
- 13:51Speaker 10: fish meal.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Oh?
- 13:52Speaker 3: Sorry, Tony is allergic to fish, so he does not
- 13:55Speaker 3: have a favorite fish meal. But I think that we
- 13:58Speaker 3: could say favorite seafood meal that we've had this week.
- 14:01Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:03Speaker 10: That that lobster pasta we had last thing was like,
- 14:08Speaker 10: I'm not like a huge pasta guy. I'm not like
- 14:09Speaker 10: a huge lobster guy, but I was like, that was
- 14:11Speaker 10: really freaking good. So that was kind of on a
- 14:14Speaker 10: left field. That wasn't like a typical thing that you
- 14:16Speaker 10: would have.
- 14:17Speaker 3: You ever hear that saying like I could hurt myself
- 14:20Speaker 3: or I hurt myself, like in context of eating too much.
- 14:24Speaker 10: Yeah, we've heard it about five thousand times this week.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Yeah, down here, it's very common. I feel like that
- 14:30Speaker 3: with every meal we've had here. If like you weren't
- 14:33Speaker 3: paying attention, especially with like a lobster pasta, you can
- 14:36Speaker 3: just keep going back for seconds and thirds and the
- 14:38Speaker 3: next thing you know you need help.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Get it back to you. Can we can we revisit
- 14:43Speaker 4: something that we talked about before the show, doctor Rinella Tony,
- 14:51Speaker 4: can you say real quick what you think is true?
- 14:54Speaker 10: So I don't know if this is true, but I
- 14:56Speaker 10: was told this by a travel nurse when I went
- 14:59Speaker 10: to Africa, and she asked me what allergies do you have?
- 15:02Speaker 10: And I jokingly said, I'm allergic to fish. She said,
- 15:04Speaker 10: I bet you can eat salmon and trout. And I said,
- 15:07Speaker 10: why would that be And she said because a lot
- 15:09Speaker 10: of times it's a heightened sensitivity to mercury build up
- 15:12Speaker 10: in the fat deposits of fish, and they live in cold,
- 15:15Speaker 10: clear water, and so sometimes people who are believe they're
- 15:19Speaker 10: allergic to all fish can eat those fish.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Yeah, she's she's right, but she's totally wrong about why.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Has nothing to do with the clarity, Like mercury has
- 15:29Speaker 4: nothing to do with the temperature of the water has
- 15:32Speaker 4: nothing to do with the clarity of the water. It
- 15:35Speaker 4: has to do with the longevity and diet of the fish.
- 15:39Speaker 4: What you have is is there's certain fish proteins, and
- 15:43Speaker 4: those fish proteins, for whatever reason, you're not allergic to
- 15:46Speaker 4: the ones that are in cell monods. Okay, doctored, I'm
- 15:54Speaker 4: not a die. I mean, I'm just a guy.
- 15:56Speaker 10: Okay.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Well, it's just that when I heard that mercury thing,
- 15:59Speaker 4: it kind of rat shook me up a little angry.
- 16:01Speaker 10: I get it. Well, a medical professional told me that. Also,
- 16:06Speaker 10: I don't drink anymore. But when she told me that,
- 16:09Speaker 10: I did drink. And so I went and caught too trout,
- 16:11Speaker 10: and then I drank a bunch of whiskey because I
- 16:13Speaker 10: didn't have the stones to try it because it's a
- 16:16Speaker 10: horrible reaction. And then I tried a little bit of
- 16:19Speaker 10: trout and I could eat it, and it was like the
- 16:21Speaker 10: world opened up for me. And now I take great
- 16:24Speaker 10: pleasure in my little girls. And I go catch brook
- 16:27Speaker 10: trout and we were meat fishing. We bunk them with
- 16:31Speaker 10: a rock right on the stream side like you used
- 16:33Speaker 10: to when you're little. Yeah, yeah, I love it. And
- 16:35Speaker 10: I think about you every time I do it.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Mark, I'm okay with that.
- 16:38Speaker 10: These beautiful native brookies, there's plenty of them over there.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Are they natives there where we're fishing north? Yeah? Now
- 16:48Speaker 1: we're on the hot tip offs.
- 16:50Speaker 11: Hot tip off time.
- 16:56Speaker 4: We've got some hot tips to get to today.
- 16:58Speaker 5: And these ones speak our courtesy of Daniel Pruett and
- 17:01Speaker 5: Brody Henderson, they're going head to head.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Let's roll the clips.
- 17:08Speaker 12: Welcome to another hot tip off.
- 17:10Speaker 13: When you're on an extended bat country hunt and you're
- 17:13Speaker 13: facing down seven or ten days of eating nothing but
- 17:17Speaker 13: freeze dry, yourself favor and bring some salami, or you
- 17:22Speaker 13: could use summer sausage too.
- 17:25Speaker 12: It keeps forever. You don't gotta worry about it going bad.
- 17:29Speaker 13: And you can mix up that freeze dry by making
- 17:32Speaker 13: some fried salami sandwiches, which are excellent.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Steve.
- 17:37Speaker 12: Steve may like him more even than his own American buffalo.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Fo Yeah, I like it a lot. It's linger ficking good.
- 17:45Speaker 4: And not only that, the reason they call it summer
- 17:47Speaker 4: sausage is it's for the summer. It doesn't go bad.
- 17:50Speaker 13: So bring bring self, do self favor, bring a little
- 17:53Speaker 13: frying pan, throw some butter in there and keep keep
- 17:58Speaker 13: the grease that you've been using.
- 18:01Speaker 12: Heat that sucker up.
- 18:03Speaker 13: Slice two or three of these, get yourself a bagel,
- 18:06Speaker 13: block of cheese, some mustard, Throw that thing in there.
- 18:10Speaker 4: I perch your ass right back off when you get yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 12: Those and we've been eating these things for days. We're
- 18:16Speaker 12: almost out.
- 18:17Speaker 13: I brought three of these tubes of salami, and that's
- 18:21Speaker 13: all that's left.
- 18:23Speaker 12: So we're going to have a couple more right now.
- 18:26Speaker 12: Try it out.
- 18:29Speaker 9: I'm Danielle Pritt, and I've got a hot tip for
- 18:31Speaker 9: you for working with shanks. So say you want to
- 18:35Speaker 9: make something like also buko, but you don't have a
- 18:38Speaker 9: saw to cut through the bone, or maybe you're short
- 18:41Speaker 9: on time and you really need to speed up the
- 18:43Speaker 9: cooking process, but these shanks take forever to break down.
- 18:47Speaker 9: What you can do is you can actually just take
- 18:49Speaker 9: a knife, cut it into cross sections through the muscle
- 18:52Speaker 9: but not the bone, and keep it attached to the bone,
- 18:56Speaker 9: and then you'll cook it just as you normally would
- 18:58Speaker 9: in a recipe. So you'll brown the meat. So I'll
- 19:01Speaker 9: take some vegetables stock and then throw it all in
- 19:05Speaker 9: the pot to slow cook. And because it's cut up
- 19:07Speaker 9: into these pieces. It's gonna cook a lot faster as
- 19:10Speaker 9: opposed to just one big chunk of meat, and you'll
- 19:13Speaker 9: know it's ready whenever it falls off the bone.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Okay, what do do you guys? Want to rate each
- 19:20Speaker 3: one or just go ahead and say who's the better.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Danielle's is better, but Brody's is better. I can explain, please,
- 19:32Speaker 4: hers is better. It's a better tip I never thought of.
- 19:36Speaker 1: That reaches a wider audience.
- 19:38Speaker 4: It's a good tip. But those fried salami sandwiches are
- 19:44Speaker 4: so good in the right circumstance, meaning you've been out
- 19:47Speaker 4: hunting for a long time, not eating your normal food
- 19:50Speaker 4: and you get that and you're so thankful. So it's
- 19:53Speaker 4: his is better, but it's not like better better, Danielle's
- 19:57Speaker 4: is better.
- 19:57Speaker 3: That was gonna be my one comment on Brody's. I
- 19:59Speaker 3: was gonna say, don't try this at home, because that
- 20:02Speaker 3: sandwich at home is not going to impress.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Anybody, you know, anything like fried and grease. He is
- 20:07Speaker 4: so good. Yeah, when you're like camping after a while, right,
- 20:11Speaker 4: you know, you get like four or five days in,
- 20:14Speaker 4: you're like, oh, you.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Know, yeah, you have to be kind of tired, kind
- 20:18Speaker 3: of wet, been sleeping on the ground for three four
- 20:21Speaker 3: days and then someone's like.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Hey, eating, let's fry up some sausage. Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and then with the leftover grease, we'll cook something else.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Awesome. I'm gonna give it to Danielle. You guys, I'm
- 20:36Speaker 1: giving it to Danielle too.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Same here. That's a good tip, yeah, because I would
- 20:39Speaker 4: normally do what she's talking about. Then I'd have my
- 20:41Speaker 4: kid go out and get the hacksaw or the skill
- 20:43Speaker 4: or the saws all, and I would saws all in
- 20:45Speaker 4: the sink.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I have some whole shanks right now in my freezer.
- 20:49Speaker 3: When I get home, I might do that.
- 20:51Speaker 4: It's great to because if you don't cut it and
- 20:53Speaker 4: you just cook the whole thing, it's a different product, right,
- 20:56Speaker 4: different product.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, big time. What do you guys say, Corinn nothing?
- 21:03Speaker 4: And Brodie Yes, Brodie's getting his ass kick.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Speaking of Danielle, she's got a new cookbook out, The
- 21:09Speaker 3: Wild and Whole Cookbook, Seasonable Seasonal Recipes for the Conscious cook.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Have any of you made a recipe out of it yet?
- 21:17Speaker 8: I haven't cooked it, but I've looked through it and
- 21:19Speaker 8: noted some Oh it's really good.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Looks great, Yeah, it is a beautiful book.
- 21:24Speaker 4: They did a good job.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Check it out wherever cookbooks are sold. All right, one
- 21:30Speaker 3: minute fishing, says Yanni. Throw to Steve. You must be
- 21:34Speaker 3: introing our one minute fishing.
- 21:36Speaker 4: How do I do that?
- 21:38Speaker 1: You have to talk about yourself in a past tense?
- 21:41Speaker 4: I believe, Oh, where should I look? Phil, look at
- 21:45Speaker 4: that camera right there? Join us for one minute fishing outside.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Over to you, Steve, Hey, what's going on? Podcast listeners?
- 21:56Speaker 5: This is filled the engineer coming to you with a
- 21:58Speaker 5: little note from my hotel room here at Cypress Cove
- 22:01Speaker 5: in Venice, Louisiana. This next bit that we filmed in
- 22:05Speaker 5: lieu of one minute fishing, this little competition that's coming up,
- 22:08Speaker 5: was filmed outside.
- 22:09Speaker 4: It was very, very windy.
- 22:11Speaker 5: The audio is still there. I cleaned it up the
- 22:12Speaker 5: best I could. It's a little rough, though, so you
- 22:15Speaker 5: can hop on over to the YouTube versions of that.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Way you're actually watching what's happening. The audio is not
- 22:19Speaker 5: as distracting. But if you're listening to the audio only version,
- 22:22Speaker 5: feel free.
- 22:22Speaker 4: To sit through it. You can skip ahead about.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Six minutes if you just want to get to the
- 22:26Speaker 5: winner and get on with the rest of the show anyway.
- 22:29Speaker 4: I just thought i'd let you know. Back to the show.
- 22:32Speaker 14: Okay, we're here at Cypress Cove Marina, literally in the marina, sorry,
- 22:38Speaker 14: and we're gonna have our one minute fish off, and
- 22:40Speaker 14: we're doing a little bit different because we're gonna do
- 22:42Speaker 14: it where it's an elimination round.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I'm gonna fish against Yanni game.
- 22:45Speaker 11: We're fishing in the marina.
- 22:49Speaker 4: There's a mixed bag, Tony. How many speaces of fish
- 22:51Speaker 4: have you encountered in the marina?
- 22:53Speaker 11: Uh?
- 22:54Speaker 10: Five lasts or probably five.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Five species of fish.
- 22:58Speaker 15: First fish goes to the second round.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Mark will be losing that round because he's got his
- 23:05Speaker 4: fly pole and we're in a marina.
- 23:09Speaker 1: He might tip his fly with a little.
- 23:13Speaker 15: I just want to let us we're in a we're
- 23:16Speaker 15: in a marina, and it's not like you're coveted game
- 23:20Speaker 15: fish here as much as it's just kind of grab
- 23:22Speaker 15: bag how you load up.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I'm not showing you my rage. It's pretty much the same.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Thing though, and my real broken want everyone.
- 23:31Speaker 16: Know three two one.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Johnny's going straight down, Steve spurt Jack, Steve's gonna bounce
- 23:48Speaker 4: along the bottom.
- 23:54Speaker 17: Johnny might have had a yata.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Got youre ad thirty seconds, still got bad.
- 24:20Speaker 18: Jannie Cassidy's just walking out of the dock at some
- 24:24Speaker 18: movement where Steve is just casting. Really hope Steve, Steve
- 24:28Speaker 18: lost bab.
- 24:32Speaker 17: I'm getting gonna keep hand on the handle.
- 24:36Speaker 11: Actually surpassed a minute.
- 24:42Speaker 4: We're going now into two minute fishing, going into overtime. Well,
- 24:52Speaker 4: Steve has a nother cast.
- 24:53Speaker 18: Now Johnny's trying to get the shade.
- 25:00Speaker 11: Yes, get it. We're in a minute thirty's your favor.
- 25:15Speaker 9: You guys are almost set in two minutes fail.
- 25:19Speaker 8: We're about the history for the chustions.
- 25:25Speaker 19: Oh, I think you may need to call it. I'm
- 25:31Speaker 19: from the.
- 25:40Speaker 11: Second we got.
- 25:46Speaker 19: What kind looks like a hardhead.
- 25:49Speaker 11: I'm just about to pull it out.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Of course, we all knew it.
- 25:56Speaker 19: If it is a hard head, it's a hard it is.
- 26:00Speaker 11: Can you talk about why you might want to avoid that?
- 26:04Speaker 15: So these things have spines on their feets that hurt
- 26:09Speaker 15: like hell hurt.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And they have a venom in it's I don't think
- 26:13Speaker 1: it's fair to.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Call him a venom something. Have you had one going
- 26:16Speaker 4: into your finger, dude?
- 26:17Speaker 14: I haven't.
- 26:18Speaker 4: When I was a little kid, I threw one back
- 26:20Speaker 4: in the on vacation in Florida. I flew through one
- 26:23Speaker 4: in it came up, I stepped on and it pretty
- 26:25Speaker 4: much ruined my little kiddy vacation. Yeah, all right, Steve's
- 26:29Speaker 4: going on to the finals.
- 26:30Speaker 17: Going onto the vinyls.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Let me freshen off one good jazz.
- 26:33Speaker 15: You have been, Tony Mark looking very contemporary.
- 26:39Speaker 11: Are we ready to go yet?
- 26:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 26:41Speaker 4: We're rolling.
- 26:43Speaker 20: I know I feel a little undergun of that, Like
- 26:48Speaker 20: Tony's looking like a big.
- 27:01Speaker 11: Bay.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Lad to get it on.
- 27:21Speaker 11: Tony's little there. He's a very days for three days straight.
- 27:27Speaker 2: About are we out in time?
- 27:30Speaker 1: Correct?
- 27:32Speaker 11: Thirty seconds?
- 27:34Speaker 3: Mark mark Son has got a missed a little bit, Tony.
- 27:49Speaker 11: Casting.
- 27:51Speaker 18: Tony is now fluting knocks Mikey would in Minnesota for
- 27:55Speaker 18: the great largemouth basket.
- 27:58Speaker 4: A fly shot.
- 28:00Speaker 19: I haven't seen that anyway.
- 28:01Speaker 9: Right, we have surpassed one minute in eleven seconds.
- 28:05Speaker 18: Marcus thrown off his game because the water is significantly
- 28:07Speaker 18: warmer than what he's used to.
- 28:09Speaker 19: H This is not trout fishing.
- 28:12Speaker 16: We have turned this into two minute fishing.
- 28:16Speaker 4: He's got to keep going to someone.
- 28:17Speaker 19: Yeah, started have to have a fine.
- 28:19Speaker 4: We just started.
- 28:20Speaker 10: We protected craft.
- 28:21Speaker 4: That happened. We just go. Okay, I'm excited to cast
- 28:24Speaker 4: for the first time, and I ran I was thinking
- 28:26Speaker 4: about that, but I might just edit it down for sure.
- 28:28Speaker 4: This is the perks of a pre record.
- 28:30Speaker 19: Fast forward the video.
- 28:33Speaker 17: Yeah, all right, two and.
- 28:35Speaker 19: A half minutes.
- 28:35Speaker 10: Everybody with that crap counter?
- 28:38Speaker 18: Yeah, yeah, I think a crap would count.
- 28:43Speaker 15: Oh oh oh yeah, oh beautiful?
- 28:48Speaker 19: Oh yes, God, do not want to let it go?
- 29:05Speaker 19: Sight fishing?
- 29:06Speaker 17: Yeah?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Usually the flag guys are into sight fishing.
- 29:09Speaker 5: All right, we're moving on to Steven Tony.
- 29:13Speaker 16: Three two one cast, all right, let it stend. He's
- 29:27Speaker 16: leaning in second.
- 29:34Speaker 21: Yeah, that makes Tony Peterson our winner of multi minute fishing.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Way to go, Tony.
- 29:51Speaker 10: Is there ever, like really any serious belt here? I mean,
- 29:55Speaker 10: are we be kidding me?
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Tony Site fished a crab while he was battling
- 30:06Speaker 3: Mark in the first round, and that crab.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I don't want to say it saved your but it
- 30:11Speaker 1: really didn't. You had all the time in the world because.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Mark was still was still full casting, trying to decide
- 30:19Speaker 3: exactly where to lay down his shrimp, and you already
- 30:22Speaker 3: had that crab.
- 30:23Speaker 4: On, right.
- 30:23Speaker 8: I like a challenge, right, I'm not convinced the crab
- 30:27Speaker 8: should count still.
- 30:30Speaker 1: But what were we gonna do?
- 30:31Speaker 10: Hold on, hold on, you cast and Karin could vouch
- 30:35Speaker 10: for this too. But that crab was perfect execution on
- 30:38Speaker 10: my part. I spotted him. I had to flip right
- 30:41Speaker 10: in front of him. I had to keep that shrimp
- 30:43Speaker 10: at a perfect level that he could swim over there.
- 30:45Speaker 4: He grabbed it.
- 30:45Speaker 10: Then I slowly reeled him in and then very gently
- 30:49Speaker 10: brought him up.
- 30:51Speaker 4: I didn't bring this up at the time, so I
- 30:52Speaker 4: don't want to seem like sore loser. But uh, it's
- 30:56Speaker 4: not fish right.
- 30:57Speaker 8: That's again, that's that one minute crabbing. It's one minute
- 31:00Speaker 8: fish right.
- 31:00Speaker 10: I'm just saying the skill level it took to do
- 31:03Speaker 10: that was way beyond any fish you're going to catch.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Next time I have a fishing contest, I'm gonna clarify
- 31:07Speaker 4: I'm and be like finfish Listen.
- 31:11Speaker 3: All I know is that little crab got onto the dock.
- 31:14Speaker 3: The crowd there went nuts, okay, and they declared to
- 31:17Speaker 3: wear so.
- 31:19Speaker 17: Well.
- 31:20Speaker 10: And what happened in the second round.
- 31:22Speaker 3: I believe you and Ranella were fishing, and you know
- 31:27Speaker 3: you both had to make a couple of casts.
- 31:29Speaker 10: No, no, no, no, not on the second one.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Oh no, first cast. Oh that's right.
- 31:32Speaker 3: You were like six seconds in and you had a captain.
- 31:38Speaker 3: You got anything to say to defend yourself. Maybe you're
- 31:40Speaker 3: on the wrong side of the dock.
- 31:42Speaker 4: No, I think I I think that he got into
- 31:45Speaker 4: the finals catches and I just feel like I just
- 31:52Speaker 4: have I didn't feel like arguing it out. So it's
- 31:54Speaker 4: like I never looked at it like an actual win
- 31:56Speaker 4: on his part, you know. I thought it was like,
- 32:00Speaker 4: you know, you can't win them all when you play fair.
- 32:04Speaker 1: The only thing I noticed was your very aggressive stance
- 32:07Speaker 1: when you made your cast. You were prepared to battle,
- 32:09Speaker 1: to do battle. I was ready for hooks. Yeah, yeah, all.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Right, now we're on to uh tattoos.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I regret.
- 32:20Speaker 12: I've made a huge mistake.
- 32:23Speaker 4: That's all you got.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Well that was before I started doing the fun parodies
- 32:27Speaker 5: that everybody loves and our and treasures, all right.
- 32:30Speaker 1: The first one.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Can I tell you what. I ran a new guy
- 32:33Speaker 4: at the airport there to day and after our pussing
- 32:35Speaker 4: the Pot episode, he got the pussing the pot on.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Them, the same one that's on the T shirt.
- 32:42Speaker 4: With the gaff and then him and his friend. He's
- 32:46Speaker 4: a young fella. Him and his friend were running around
- 32:48Speaker 4: work so much saying pushing the pot that their boss
- 32:51Speaker 4: toldhim they were gonna get fired if they didn't stop
- 32:52Speaker 4: saying that.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Now that makes me laugh.
- 32:57Speaker 4: That's pretty good, huh. The man, it's always young people.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You don't really run into many fifty year olds where
- 33:05Speaker 4: you're like, really, that tattoo, this is the It just
- 33:09Speaker 4: occurred to me that we're looking at his whole back here.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Here's the thing that really it runs from his ass,
- 33:15Speaker 4: neck to his scat to his shoulder blade. Yeah. I
- 33:18Speaker 4: didn't see that until just now. Either. That's wild. Here's
- 33:20Speaker 4: the big missed opportunity.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I got to read the read the little letter that
- 33:26Speaker 3: said also to describe it for the okay uh. Nick
- 33:31Speaker 3: Zeluski says, look at this mistake, had the outline of
- 33:37Speaker 3: Michigan done.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Was okay with that?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Then went back to at a large mouthed bass on
- 33:42Speaker 3: a rodden reel, and I get a rainbow colored bass
- 33:46Speaker 3: in a puddle on a rod.
- 33:48Speaker 4: That looks as if a fifth grader drew it. Please help, man.
- 33:55Speaker 4: I don't understand why he didn't have the hand of
- 33:58Speaker 4: Michigan holding the that would have brought it all together. Oh,
- 34:04Speaker 4: like the mitt was holding the mist should have been
- 34:05Speaker 4: holding the rod. There's a missed opportunity right there. That
- 34:09Speaker 4: is one of the worst biggest tattoos I've ever seen.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I mean, how long do you think his rod is?
- 34:21Speaker 10: Oh my god, we're just trying to paint a picture.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Folks need to appreciate. So if you imagine a man's
- 34:33Speaker 4: so here's why he's surprised. Like when you go like,
- 34:36Speaker 4: how are you surprised by your tattoo? But this is
- 34:39Speaker 4: one of your parts of your body that you've never seen.
- 34:44Speaker 4: It's not like, yeah, but you've never seen. The other day,
- 34:47Speaker 4: stepped out of my tent to take a leak in
- 34:49Speaker 4: the middle of the night and stepped down a tent
- 34:50Speaker 4: steak and cut a part of my heel that I
- 34:52Speaker 4: realized is very You think you see your heels a lot,
- 34:55Speaker 4: but there's a part of your heel you don't see
- 34:57Speaker 4: most days. And this is a part of your body
- 35:01Speaker 4: that you don't see most days. So he probably only
- 35:04Speaker 4: later realized how bad it was.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it goes from underneath his arm, like
- 35:09Speaker 3: his like lower armpit, and wraps all the way around
- 35:13Speaker 3: to his spine. So I mean this thing is it's
- 35:15Speaker 3: got to be ten twelve inches wide and at least
- 35:18Speaker 3: that tall.
- 35:19Speaker 4: Yeah, It like runs from his ass neck to his
- 35:21Speaker 4: shoulder blade, and his kidney is sitting kind of in
- 35:24Speaker 4: the little it's like sitting mid lower peninsula, and it
- 35:28Speaker 4: goes his spine is there and it wraps around to
- 35:33Speaker 4: his the the western up has to be over by
- 35:37Speaker 4: his nips, close a nipple.
- 35:40Speaker 10: I'm not a Michigan guy. How's the outline?
- 35:44Speaker 4: Is it pretty? I mean it's good, It's really enough. Yeah, really,
- 35:48Speaker 4: even on the east side, it's looking a little rough
- 35:50Speaker 4: to me.
- 35:51Speaker 10: That's what I was looking at, like that little puzzle
- 35:53Speaker 10: piece part.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Yeah it's yeah, it's pretty. But what really is outstanding
- 35:58Speaker 4: just in its in it's and it's its badness is
- 36:02Speaker 4: the fish coloration. He says, rainbow.
- 36:07Speaker 3: But I just see like awkward marine glue.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I don't. He says, What can he do to help?
- 36:13Speaker 4: I'd be I'd be thinking the skin graft, that he
- 36:17Speaker 4: would take skin from his buttocks, have this removed, put
- 36:24Speaker 4: on his buttocks, and then have the skin from his
- 36:26Speaker 4: buttocks put up on his back.
- 36:29Speaker 10: That is a lot. That's a lot to do just
- 36:32Speaker 10: to cover a spot of your body.
- 36:33Speaker 4: You don't.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Would you have it so that like the mask is
- 36:36Speaker 1: kind of jumping out of his.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Cracks, out of his buttons, or I would take that
- 36:42Speaker 4: back skin and invert it and put it tattoo in
- 36:48Speaker 4: must flesh out and hope that that grew in and
- 36:54Speaker 4: the tattoo over tattoos, Right, they have a process where
- 36:58Speaker 4: skin reversal that air in that direction.
- 37:02Speaker 1: They have a process where you can just get it removed.
- 37:04Speaker 3: All right, we're gonna vote on We're gonna do two
- 37:06Speaker 3: today and then vote on the worst one. Cecil tremble
- 37:12Speaker 3: rites in Back in twenty seventeen, I got a tattoo
- 37:16Speaker 3: of a tarpin's head on the top of my arm
- 37:18Speaker 3: as part of a.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Florida themed fishing tattoo.
- 37:22Speaker 4: The idea.
- 37:23Speaker 3: The idea was to be looking downward at a tarpin,
- 37:27Speaker 3: as though if you're on the bow of the boat,
- 37:28Speaker 3: you know you got a tarpin coming towards you fly.
- 37:33Speaker 4: After about five years.
- 37:34Speaker 3: This tarpin began to look more and more like a
- 37:37Speaker 3: huge penis on top of my arm.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Oh, I actually never noticed it. One of my buddies did.
- 37:44Speaker 3: His exact words were, my god, I thought that was
- 37:47Speaker 3: a penis.
- 37:48Speaker 4: That's not what he said.
- 37:50Speaker 10: Yeah right, oh gee, ally, because that's how you talk
- 37:57Speaker 10: to your buddies God.
- 37:59Speaker 1: But he didn't.
- 38:01Speaker 3: He didn't say my God. He wrote, by God. I
- 38:07Speaker 3: thought that was a penis. Ever since then, that is
- 38:09Speaker 3: all I can see. More people started noticing it too.
- 38:12Speaker 3: This is part of a complete sleeve that cost me
- 38:15Speaker 3: close to two grand. The rest of the tattoo looks great.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I have already begun the process of getting it covered
- 38:21Speaker 3: with a tattoo of a stone crab. Yes, I have
- 38:24Speaker 3: thought of the pun crabs in my penis. Now I
- 38:31Speaker 3: don't see it as much.
- 38:33Speaker 4: As he does. I thought a snake.
- 38:36Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think specifically the nose of the of
- 38:41Speaker 5: the looks looks a little suspects there.
- 38:44Speaker 10: Is a penis like element to the front end.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Definitely looks like the tip of a penis. I don't
- 38:50Speaker 5: know what else you want me to say.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Any more details.
- 38:54Speaker 10: Then it flares out pretty far.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Yeah, there's from there becomes less healthy, that's true. Uncircumcised
- 39:01Speaker 4: or circumcised phil it kind of it kind of depends
- 39:04Speaker 4: what state the penis is. Like this, like, I'm really
- 39:07Speaker 4: only really familiar with one. You know, and when I
- 39:11Speaker 4: hear conversations like this, I'm like, now I'm thinking is
- 39:13Speaker 4: They're like like, that's not what I see.
- 39:16Speaker 10: So I'm like, I am album, Yannie. It almost looks
- 39:23Speaker 10: like a penis in the process of being circumcised by
- 39:26Speaker 10: one of those rubber bands.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Like bulls. It's you know what, Listen, it's not that bad,
- 39:35Speaker 4: because yeah, I think it could still be just worked.
- 39:39Speaker 3: It worked it a little bit and just you know,
- 39:41Speaker 3: maybe flared the mouth a little bit more like it
- 39:43Speaker 3: was coming up to eat the fly.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Dude, he could turn it to a profile of a fish.
- 39:47Speaker 4: He could just have a whole another He doesn't have
- 39:50Speaker 4: that bad of a problem. I mean, it's not going
- 39:52Speaker 4: to be cheap. Do you think he's heard about turning
- 39:54Speaker 4: his skin inside out? Well, no, because he's not in
- 39:58Speaker 4: that situation. His arm, he's not in a situation like
- 40:02Speaker 4: the other gentleman was. I think this is a fixable problem.
- 40:06Speaker 4: It's going to cost a couple thousand bucks, and I
- 40:09Speaker 4: think he'll be okay this. He could turn that into
- 40:11Speaker 4: all manner of things.
- 40:12Speaker 10: I would if I were him, I'd leave it. I
- 40:13Speaker 10: don't think it's that.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Bad, Okay, Cecil had the Tarpin and uh Nick had
- 40:19Speaker 1: the Michigan large Mouth Rainbow. Nick gets the award for
- 40:25Speaker 1: most regrettable.
- 40:26Speaker 4: Yeah that's tough.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, we're on to the rut report. Smart
- 40:34Speaker 3: Kenyon is going to bring us a rut report. The
- 40:37Speaker 3: date today is I think October.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Tenth. How you can get three minutes out of this,
- 40:44Speaker 4: mart easy? Oh okay, Oh my god, have you not
- 40:47Speaker 4: heard Mark? We were joking that he would say that
- 40:52Speaker 4: it's not happening yet. Is this going to be more
- 40:54Speaker 4: of a rout forecast?
- 40:56Speaker 8: Well, well, here's the thing is, we do this podcast
- 40:58Speaker 8: on Wired to Hunt called Rut Fresh Radio, in which
- 41:02Speaker 8: every week we check in with deer hunters all across
- 41:04Speaker 8: the country, four or five different people different parts of
- 41:07Speaker 8: the country find out what's happening right now. So when
- 41:09Speaker 8: the actual rut does arrive, there's very peak of the
- 41:13Speaker 8: rut related you know, updates, but the lead up to
- 41:17Speaker 8: the rut is just as important as the actual peak
- 41:20Speaker 8: of breeding. So people want to know about all that
- 41:22Speaker 8: kind of stuff. So this week's rut report is that
- 41:27Speaker 8: across most of the country, the upper half, if you know,
- 41:31Speaker 8: if not a little bit more than that, we are
- 41:33Speaker 8: beginning to build up to the rut so peak of
- 41:36Speaker 8: brating in somewhere like Michigan's November fifteenth typically, So right
- 41:39Speaker 8: now deer are slowly ramping up to stoster and slowly
- 41:43Speaker 8: building this deer So one of the most visible things
- 41:45Speaker 8: you're seeing is that scraping activities picking up. So in
- 41:49Speaker 8: our rut Fresh radio episode that comes out the Wednesday
- 41:52Speaker 8: of this week, we hear from some people that are
- 41:54Speaker 8: all noticing a lot more scrapes, a lot more I
- 41:58Speaker 8: wouldn't say a lot more, but a lot more scrape
- 42:00Speaker 8: and some more visible daylight activity on those. So I've
- 42:02Speaker 8: seen that on my own trail cameras starting to get
- 42:05Speaker 8: daylight bucks showing up hitting those even in huntable hours.
- 42:08Speaker 4: So that's a key thing to note.
- 42:10Speaker 8: One other thing for anyone listening, you know, obviously, is
- 42:13Speaker 8: live there's a cold front coming through much of the
- 42:17Speaker 8: country right now that's hitting somewhere between Saturday and Monday.
- 42:21Speaker 8: For various parts of the country, temperatures are dropping more
- 42:24Speaker 8: than twenty degrees. So for example, in Michigan where I live,
- 42:27Speaker 8: it's going from seventy seven down to fifty one for
- 42:29Speaker 8: the highs, and so that's going to get a lot
- 42:31Speaker 8: of deer moving and there should be some good hunting coming.
- 42:34Speaker 1: That's titillating.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Yes, that's what that's what I shoot forward with all
- 42:38Speaker 4: my rut reports. Tittaing. No, that was a phenomenal ret report.
- 42:41Speaker 4: I mean I got yeah, I liked it.
- 42:42Speaker 1: I was speaking just of that temperature droplating for me.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Yes, I thought the whole it could be. I could
- 42:50Speaker 4: listen to that from years ago when it has no
- 42:52Speaker 4: relevance and I would still have been interested in it.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Oh, listen, I'll be back every other week.
- 43:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you should just make up someone giving.
- 43:02Speaker 10: Me then, Mark, that was so much better than everybody expected.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Thanks for that, good job.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Thank you Mark for the report today.
- 43:11Speaker 4: You are very welcome.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Now we're on to a.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Segment called the Indefensible Law. See if you want to intro,
- 43:19Speaker 3: I often hold on.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I have questions about that one, but Phil his game
- 43:31Speaker 4: is really off. Man. Like the last couple of these.
- 43:34Speaker 4: We started with Jetika and everything, which fills a genius.
- 43:39Speaker 4: All that enough, it's like, wow, that's okay. You know,
- 43:41Speaker 4: Randall called my intro's noise last night after a couple
- 43:44Speaker 4: of drinks, so we're not speaking today. I have a
- 43:51Speaker 4: thing where I have a problem where I run around
- 43:55Speaker 4: and I'll something will annoy me, and I'll say, like,
- 43:58Speaker 4: I know it would be government over, but I feel
- 44:00Speaker 4: like it should be against the law to whatever you know.
- 44:04Speaker 4: And so in doing like an indefensible law thing someone
- 44:08Speaker 4: else starts I'm trying. I do them so often I
- 44:09Speaker 4: have to think of one of my favorites, like a
- 44:11Speaker 4: thing that I feel should be against the law.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but you feel like you you explained what
- 44:16Speaker 1: we're doing here.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it'd be like if you could if you could
- 44:20Speaker 4: indulge your like annoyances, not indulge annoyances, but if you
- 44:26Speaker 4: could take things that you just drive you nuts and
- 44:30Speaker 4: pass a law around it and not need to rationalize it,
- 44:34Speaker 4: not mean to make it seem like it was doing
- 44:36Speaker 4: anybody any good.
- 44:37Speaker 20: But you.
- 44:39Speaker 4: What would you create? For instance, earlier were talking about
- 44:42Speaker 4: I was saying, this might this is probably indefensible, it's mean,
- 44:46Speaker 4: but I think that if you have a cowboy hat,
- 44:48Speaker 4: you should at least be live stock adjacent. You should
- 44:52Speaker 4: at least be live stock adjacent. That I would sign
- 44:56Speaker 4: that law. If I was the emperor of the world
- 45:00Speaker 4: and they put that law on my desk, I would
- 45:01Speaker 4: sign that in the law. Do you feel that way
- 45:04Speaker 4: around baseball hats?
- 45:06Speaker 3: No copy uniforms, Yes, but I mean a baseball hat
- 45:11Speaker 3: way back in the day only baseball players wore.
- 45:13Speaker 4: That's why I call them bill caps. You sometimes I
- 45:22Speaker 4: call them bill caps?
- 45:25Speaker 1: All right?
- 45:26Speaker 4: Did you call them bill caps? Often?
- 45:28Speaker 1: No one's perfect.
- 45:29Speaker 4: No one's perfect, son, Go grab your bill cap.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Often, I'll say that I'm impressed by all of you,
- 45:35Speaker 3: because when we have to do this segment, I'm like,
- 45:38Speaker 3: I don't have any Only I get annoyed by laws
- 45:41Speaker 3: that are already in and I'm like, wow, would just
- 45:43Speaker 3: get rid of that one?
- 45:44Speaker 4: Okay, here's what. Let me give you that one. This
- 45:46Speaker 4: is my this is my Mike. I give my main one.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Are you gonna do yours? Now?
- 45:48Speaker 16: No?
- 45:48Speaker 1: I don't have one, you three have them.
- 45:50Speaker 4: I think it should be illegal to do this. You know,
- 45:53Speaker 4: when someone goes on a let's say it's let's say
- 45:56Speaker 4: it's firearm season or firearm legal and someone's like, I'm
- 46:02Speaker 4: gonna do it with my bow, but then they bring
- 46:06Speaker 4: a gun. I don't think you should be allowed to
- 46:08Speaker 4: do that.
- 46:08Speaker 10: I kind of like that.
- 46:09Speaker 4: I think that that should be illegal. I think that
- 46:11Speaker 4: when you bite when you when you bite that off
- 46:15Speaker 4: and you go into that, you're like, you're gonna go
- 46:16Speaker 4: on a sheep hunt. You're like, and you know what, dude,
- 46:19Speaker 4: I'm gonna do it with my bow. I'm and you
- 46:23Speaker 4: could use a gun. So here I am as the
- 46:25Speaker 4: not as a person not doing that. I'm like, that
- 46:28Speaker 4: is that's like such dedication that you're willing to go
- 46:33Speaker 4: and like eat the tag. You're willing to do all
- 46:35Speaker 4: that work and have sheep or goats or whatever. You
- 46:39Speaker 4: could have gotten one, but you wanted to do it
- 46:41Speaker 4: your way. You know, you wanted to like push the
- 46:44Speaker 4: envelope and like push yourself to extremes. But then on
- 46:49Speaker 4: the last day they grab their gun. I just feel
- 46:52Speaker 4: like they led me on and that they that they
- 46:54Speaker 4: weren't really I don't. I think that you should get
- 46:57Speaker 4: arrested if.
- 46:57Speaker 11: You do that.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I wish to interview We have a whole Me your
- 47:00Speaker 1: podcast episode where we interview like four or five people
- 47:03Speaker 1: that have done this.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I know I have dear friends that pulled it off
- 47:07Speaker 4: on the last day.
- 47:09Speaker 1: I think you're like almost asking for like the universe
- 47:12Speaker 1: just to be wa handing. You wait too much to
- 47:14Speaker 1: be like I'm gonna larp around.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Maybe not the last day.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Maybe on the last day, there's gonna be a rams
- 47:19Speaker 1: standing there.
- 47:19Speaker 4: And I have friends that have done it. I have
- 47:22Speaker 4: dear friends that have done it. I don't think that
- 47:23Speaker 4: they should still be free men, right or they should
- 47:27Speaker 4: have been detained for a while in jail.
- 47:29Speaker 10: A lot of it you hear about is grab the
- 47:31Speaker 10: guide's gun, you know, was gonna make the stock on
- 47:35Speaker 10: that goat or whatever, and then all of a sudden
- 47:36Speaker 10: you're like, we can't cross the last hundred and fifty yards.
- 47:39Speaker 10: Hand me, that's real eight buddy, send a boat down,
- 47:41Speaker 10: you know.
- 47:42Speaker 4: And there's one there's a there's a cousin to this
- 47:45Speaker 4: that I'll touch on that I that I don't have
- 47:47Speaker 4: an opinion about, and I don't want these guys to
- 47:49Speaker 4: get boiled into it. Would be if you do a
- 47:53Speaker 4: grizzly archery grizzly or archie brown bear, but the guide
- 47:57Speaker 4: shoots the mint, you let the arrow go? Did you
- 48:01Speaker 4: bow hunt it? I'm not gonna win in maybe on
- 48:05Speaker 4: a future episode.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think people should write in a little short
- 48:10Speaker 1: essay on did you kill a grizzly bear with a
- 48:14Speaker 1: bow and arrow, if your guide shoots it.
- 48:16Speaker 4: With some guides, that's the only way they'll allow it
- 48:19Speaker 4: to happen. Yeah, So it's like, did you I guess
- 48:24Speaker 4: you'd have to do a little and a little neat
- 48:26Speaker 4: cropsy right to find out if it would have worked
- 48:29Speaker 4: or not.
- 48:30Speaker 3: I agree with you, but I also feel that that
- 48:32Speaker 3: those circumstances are so self regulating. It just the person
- 48:37Speaker 3: that goes into it with both weapons. They're not committed
- 48:40Speaker 3: in the in the first place, and so it doesn't
- 48:42Speaker 3: take long to be like, right, stay in camp.
- 48:46Speaker 4: So you don't think that we actually need a law? Yeah, Tony,
- 48:52Speaker 4: what's your indefensible law? Uh?
- 48:56Speaker 10: The one that I think about there's something that drives
- 48:58Speaker 10: me nuts, and it's when people get a well bred
- 49:02Speaker 10: bird dog and they have no intention either not only
- 49:06Speaker 10: not only just of no no, no, no no. They
- 49:10Speaker 10: know you have to know yourself at a certain point.
- 49:12Speaker 10: Not only are you not going to hunt with that dog, okay, whatever,
- 49:15Speaker 10: but you're not going to give that dog the training
- 49:18Speaker 10: and the life that it needs. Like you live in
- 49:20Speaker 10: an apartment somewhere and you're like, I'm gonna get this
- 49:23Speaker 10: high drive whatever well bred, and then you're in an
- 49:26Speaker 10: apartment in Chicago and that dog cannot that's a bad matchup.
- 49:30Speaker 10: That drives me crazy. Like, there's so many dog options
- 49:34Speaker 10: for people who don't necessarily want to participate in the
- 49:37Speaker 10: things that that kind of high drive get old.
- 49:40Speaker 1: They're called cats.
- 49:41Speaker 4: Yeah, like an old crippled up dog.
- 49:42Speaker 10: There's plenty of dog breeds that are slow movers, that
- 49:45Speaker 10: are lap dogs or whatever. But when people get high
- 49:49Speaker 10: drive bird dogs and they don't utilize them and give
- 49:53Speaker 10: that dog some level of the life that it deserves. Ye,
- 49:57Speaker 10: that drives me freaking crazy. I agree, I say, beyond prison,
- 50:02Speaker 10: it's just right to the guillotine. No, I don't, Well,
- 50:07Speaker 10: it's fine.
- 50:09Speaker 4: I like that. I'd support that law. You know what.
- 50:11Speaker 10: That surprises me because I thought you would probably not.
- 50:15Speaker 4: No, I support that law. When I make a habit
- 50:18Speaker 4: when I'm with my kids and my kids will see
- 50:20Speaker 4: like Max Max Barda's dog, or they'll see Cal's dog,
- 50:23Speaker 4: and they're like, I want to get a dog like that.
- 50:25Speaker 6: I I will.
- 50:26Speaker 4: I'll be like, you have to understand the thousands of
- 50:31Speaker 4: hours setting it, Like I'm like literally setting your alarm
- 50:37Speaker 4: two hours earlier then you would otherwise need to in
- 50:42Speaker 4: order to get up and train your dog. I'll just
- 50:45Speaker 4: pound that into It's not the dog. It's not the dog,
- 50:48Speaker 4: you like, it's what the person put in to bring
- 50:52Speaker 4: that dog's talents forth well.
- 50:56Speaker 10: Right, But you also can't divorce that that result from
- 50:59Speaker 10: the fact that that dog has good blood.
- 51:01Speaker 4: Yeah no, yeah, you're right. But when I'm saying what
- 51:04Speaker 4: I'm trying to know, I'm trying to say, but I'm
- 51:06Speaker 4: trying to talk to little children to explain to them
- 51:10Speaker 4: what what they're seeing is is performance, and they're mistaking
- 51:15Speaker 4: it for the dog, right, And I'm trying to like
- 51:18Speaker 4: instruct them on the importance of what because these are
- 51:23Speaker 4: people that get yelled at every day by their mother
- 51:25Speaker 4: and father about not taking care of their pets. So
- 51:27Speaker 4: I'm trying to, like I get it, jam it into them.
- 51:30Speaker 4: It's like, it's not just that.
- 51:33Speaker 10: If you take that puppy, take Max bart A's puppy,
- 51:35Speaker 10: and it doesn't go to him, and it goes to
- 51:36Speaker 10: a different family, the outcome is vastly different for that dog.
- 51:39Speaker 4: And I try to just as little kids, I try
- 51:41Speaker 4: to stress that to him, to try to build it
- 51:43Speaker 4: like a you know, like a discipline, a discipline thing.
- 51:49Speaker 4: I want to clarify to you that I said get
- 51:53Speaker 4: an old, old, crippled ole dog.
- 51:55Speaker 18: My.
- 51:56Speaker 4: We have family friends that that were friends because my
- 51:59Speaker 4: he's my my boy's best buddy, Teddy Roosevelt. Uh. They
- 52:07Speaker 4: go down to the dog pound and they'll get the
- 52:10Speaker 4: oldest dog no one wants, and they'll take that dog
- 52:15Speaker 4: home and take super good care of it, and that
- 52:18Speaker 4: dog will die, and then they'll get the they'll go
- 52:20Speaker 4: back down and get the oldest dog no one wants
- 52:23Speaker 4: and take super good care of it. It'll die. They'll
- 52:26Speaker 4: go get the oldest dog no one wants, and they
- 52:28Speaker 4: they'll have multiple sometimes of dogs that just like the rejects,
- 52:34Speaker 4: and they like just give them a very comfortable it's nice. Yeah,
- 52:39Speaker 4: it's a lot. That's one heartbreak after another.
- 52:43Speaker 10: I was gonna say that I have eleven and a
- 52:44Speaker 10: half year old dog that's slowing down like big time.
- 52:49Speaker 10: So that's like a very admirable thing to do, because
- 52:52Speaker 10: you know, you don't get any of the good parts,
- 52:55Speaker 10: like you know, like you're just like setting yourself up
- 52:58Speaker 10: over and over again for just a horrible experience. No,
- 53:04Speaker 10: that should be the law should support that, right.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Marco.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got one that'll, you know, piss some people off.
- 53:15Speaker 8: But if I'm the rule of the world and I
- 53:17Speaker 8: don't need to care about everybody drawing their line in
- 53:20Speaker 8: the sands somewhere different, this is my sand, this is
- 53:22Speaker 8: my line my world, I would say that there should
- 53:26Speaker 8: be a law that says that all cell cameras should
- 53:29Speaker 8: be sold with a twenty four hour delay, so you
- 53:33Speaker 8: can use a cell camera, but you can get no
- 53:35Speaker 8: photos any sooner than twenty four hours after they happen.
- 53:39Speaker 4: I think that would be I.
- 53:40Speaker 10: Feel like this is a law that might actually come
- 53:43Speaker 10: to be. I think this is the only one that
- 53:45Speaker 10: might eventually exist.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I think they can regulate that. I think you could see.
- 53:49Speaker 10: I think they're going to have to sell state compliant
- 53:52Speaker 10: cameras at some point.
- 53:53Speaker 8: Well, I've always thought that if a camera company came
- 53:55Speaker 8: out with like a fair Chase camera and they market
- 53:57Speaker 8: it in this kind of way and said, hey, if
- 53:58Speaker 8: you're using our camera, that's like, hey, this is the
- 54:00Speaker 8: way I operate, there might be a sub segment of
- 54:04Speaker 8: the market who care about that enough to vote with
- 54:07Speaker 8: their dollars.
- 54:08Speaker 4: I would vote with my dollars in that kind of way.
- 54:10Speaker 10: And if that came first, then there's not necessarily just
- 54:13Speaker 10: going to be a blanket ban in the future, because
- 54:16Speaker 10: a state could go, well, if there's this kind of
- 54:20Speaker 10: more ethical style, then we could we could write a
- 54:23Speaker 10: law this way when people are pissed off about whether
- 54:25Speaker 10: they're fairchase or not.
- 54:26Speaker 8: And I think it gives you the ability to still
- 54:28Speaker 8: use this tool, but it eliminates the most icky possible
- 54:33Speaker 8: uses of the tool. So it's a moderated kind of regulation.
- 54:38Speaker 4: You apologized and said it's gonna piss people off, but
- 54:41Speaker 4: you're sitting next to a man over here that is
- 54:43Speaker 4: going to execute. He's going to execute people who haven't
- 54:48Speaker 4: who made a bad dog, who made a bad dog?
- 54:52Speaker 4: Purchase good point. I'm the reason just going to make
- 54:55Speaker 4: it that you can't. I mean, this is gonna this
- 54:58Speaker 4: is gonna make the news.
- 55:01Speaker 3: How do you work it now when there isn't a
- 55:03Speaker 3: state agency telling you how to do it? How do
- 55:05Speaker 3: you work your cell cameras?
- 55:07Speaker 16: Now?
- 55:07Speaker 4: Well, that's what I do. I have a twenty four
- 55:08Speaker 4: hour delay in mine.
- 55:09Speaker 1: An actual delay, or you just have it set once.
- 55:13Speaker 8: A day so it sends once every twenty four and
- 55:15Speaker 8: then you set the time right. So most of mine
- 55:17Speaker 8: are set it like seven eight in the morning something
- 55:19Speaker 8: like that, and then every morning you get them actually
- 55:23Speaker 8: take the back. It's in the middle of the night
- 55:24Speaker 8: because every morning I would wake up there's a bunch
- 55:26Speaker 8: of them.
- 55:27Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, And the first thing you do when
- 55:29Speaker 3: you're in the deer stand in the morning, it's still dark,
- 55:32Speaker 3: you're like, well as well scroll through see what happened
- 55:35Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 55:35Speaker 1: That's what I do. But I have a mind set
- 55:37Speaker 1: up on the twenty four hour too, But uh yeah,
- 55:40Speaker 1: it's the thing I do in the deer stand now,
- 55:41Speaker 1: scroll through some pictures.
- 55:42Speaker 4: But I just don't want to be tempted.
- 55:44Speaker 8: I don't want to be tempted to be like walking
- 55:46Speaker 8: out to the tree stand or something and then I
- 55:48Speaker 8: look at my photos and then I see like, oh, geez,
- 55:51Speaker 8: twenty minutes ago, this buck was there or whatever. For me, like,
- 55:54Speaker 8: I know everyone's different, but that is that's too much.
- 55:57Speaker 1: No, I'm not into it. I'm not gonna say who
- 56:00Speaker 1: it was.
- 56:01Speaker 3: But while it's in Lavia, we were hanging out and
- 56:04Speaker 3: someone got a picture like an automatic ding, you know,
- 56:07Speaker 3: and there's a bunch of pigs at a feeder and
- 56:10Speaker 3: they left and then thirty minutes later, it came back
- 56:13Speaker 3: with a pig.
- 56:15Speaker 4: It's just really like, yikes.
- 56:19Speaker 1: I mean you can do it.
- 56:20Speaker 4: It's not illegal, but not in my world.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Like what why was that fun? I don't know.
- 56:26Speaker 3: So thank you guys for you guys really brought the
- 56:30Speaker 3: energy after eating a big old Poe Boy for lunch,
- 56:33Speaker 3: so I appreciate that. I hope you guys do too.

- 56:38Speaker 3: week where it will be live
