- 0:12Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is, Friday, the end of
- 0:16another week, and congratulations for making it
- 0:20here. I hope you're doing well.
- 0:21I hope the week's been a good one and the weekend ahead is
- 0:24looking grand as it lays itself before you.
- 0:28But there's probably a little bit of life to be lived between
- 0:31now and the weekend. And so to get us along our way,
- 0:34we are going to read a Sam together, which is how we do our
- 0:39Fridays together. We are up to some 115, which is
- 0:43part of this little section of Psalms between 113 and 118 that
- 0:50is celebrated red sung together by Jewish people as they
- 0:55celebrate the Passover. This is part of their tradition
- 0:59and something that never really occurred to me, but I was just
- 1:03reading earlier is that therefore, this sound that we're
- 1:07going to read today was on the lips of Jesus as he and his
- 1:11disciples celebrated the Passover feast the night that he
- 1:14was betrayed. So we are going to share this
- 1:18arm that our Lord shared with his disciples on that night.
- 1:23This is a Sam that talks about God's saving his people from
- 1:28their oppressors. How cool is that?
- 1:33So, friends, let's do it. Let us read together, Psalm 115
- 1:49Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name goes all the
- 1:54glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
- 1:59Why? Let the nations say Where is
- 2:01their God. Our God is in the heavens, and
- 2:05He does as He wishes. Their idols are merely things of
- 2:09silver and gold, shaped by human hands.
- 2:12They have mouths, but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see.
- 2:17They have ears but cannot hear, and noses but cannot smell.
- 2:23They have hands but cannot feel, and feet but cannot walk, and
- 2:28throats but cannot make a sound. And those who make idols are
- 2:33just like them, as are all who trust in them all.
- 2:38Israel trust the Lord. He is your helper and your
- 2:43shield. I'll priests descendants of
- 2:46Aaron, trust the Lord. He is your helper and your
- 2:50shield. All you who fear the Lord trust
- 2:55the Lord. He is your helper and your
- 2:58shield. The Lord remembers us and will
- 3:01bless us. He will bless the people of
- 3:04Israel and bless the priests, the descendants of Aaron.
- 3:09He will bless those who fear the Lord both great and lowly.
- 3:14May the Lord richly bless both you and your children.
- 3:19May you be blessed by the Lord who made heaven and earth.
- 3:23The heavens belong to the Lord, but He has given the earth to
- 3:27all humanity. The dead cannot sing praises to
- 3:30the Lord, for they have gone into the silence of the grave.
- 3:35But we can praise the Lord both now and forever.
- 3:39Praise the Lord. Lord, what higher calling could
- 3:53we possibly have for our lives and to spend each day in praise
- 3:58of you, removed from our lips? Everything that does not praise
- 4:04you a raise. Everything in our hearts that
- 4:07does not call your praise. Take from our hands every action
- 4:12that we would perform that does not shine praise to you, for you
- 4:18are our praiseworthy God. May every one of those deaf,
- 4:22dumb and blind idols be stripped from us and our lives, leaving
- 4:27you and only you, Lord, worthy of our praise.
- 4:33So here we are, Your people. We give you our praise in
- 4:39everything we do, all in the name of Jesus.
- 4:44Amen.
